- 0:01Welcome back to a hamster with a blunt, penknife questions and
- 0:06answers the 60s. Hello.
- 0:11Hello. How are you doing?
- 0:13Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks, it's nice breakfast.
- 0:15Yeah, very good. Thank you.
- 0:16And me to is massive today, we're talking about the 1960s.
- 0:23Yes, yes, I feel about. I was gonna say, I feel more
- 0:26prepared as you sort of sprung. The 70s on me.
- 0:29I the 80s. Sea ice from nothing.
- 0:35What comes to mind when you think of the 60s?
- 0:37Well, obviously black and white. We want all the beginning of the
- 0:41series but in general, all the 6th will be flower power.
- 0:45Well, I wasn't there. Cilla Black.
- 0:47Anyone Who Had a Heart. Would, you know what?
- 0:53Yeah sort of a developing time that's right, new technologies
- 0:57coming in new Beatles. Everyone was having sex when
- 1:01they and doing drugs as well. Know if everybody will also be
- 1:05set up like well actually probably was said of lat.
- 1:08She was a rabbit I'm telling ya, we're gonna have a Lara Lara sex
- 1:17funny but it's true. What loneliness can do?
- 1:21You know? I know walking back.
- 1:23You have been, there's a Whoopa. Oh yeah.
- 1:26Yeah. That's very 1960s.
- 1:29But of course the the reason we're here is talk about Doctor
- 1:31Who in the 1960s, a pivotal time.
- 1:36Well, yeah, I mean that's when it started to get more and, you
- 1:42know, it's true. It's true.
- 1:44And so, I put out to Twitter with some fabulous pictures.
- 1:47I stole from other people's things.
- 1:50All about the 96 fingers are going to be careful walk Handful
- 1:53of questions about the 60s back on me if we didn't get more
- 1:56questions than we did for the aec's.
- 1:59So I suppose we better begin. We better jump straight in.
- 2:03Okay, so I'm it's really difficult to read all these
- 2:06Twitter threads because there's threads within threads within
- 2:08thread. So yes dr.
- 2:09Are complicated questions. So I'm just we do skip over you.
- 2:17It's because Mark and up to untangle the line of red line.
- 2:20Twittersphere, yeah of creates, okay, so the first question is
- 2:23from Alan Reece to to have TV. Honestly, I've been doing is you
- 2:28are you won't believe the moment, listen to every morning.
- 2:31Hmm, he's a fabulous. One of the greatest.
- 2:33You know, he said it was interminable until the last up
- 2:37anyway. So anyway, so his question is,
- 2:39how would all of season 4 been--had Hartnell stayed all?
- 2:45That's so interesting. That is so interesting because I
- 2:49think forever hits the formula does.
- 2:51It's not really until five that you do.
- 2:53The base Under Siege formula, everything.
- 2:55So series for does still feel like sort of William hartnell's
- 2:59time. When they were doing all the
- 3:00different genres and things back, whatever is nothing like
- 3:02faceless ones which is nothing like evil of the Daleks which is
- 3:06nothing like the moon base. Do you like the first doctor Ben
- 3:11and Polly? Yeah, I do.
- 3:14I just they just didn't get that much of a chance.
- 3:16Did they did you think they would have rocked?
- 3:18It depends is the question, like, are you thinking of season
- 3:22four eyes? Exactly those scripts.
- 3:25So I think he's saying, are you thinking of heart?
- 3:27No in exactly the same condition.
- 3:29Is he going to get would have even lasted the rest of the
- 3:31season? For if you had stayed?
- 3:33I mean, would he be knocked out nearly every week or missing?
- 3:38If he was missing more and more different thinker?
- 3:39Would you get through seven weeks of evil?
- 3:41The Daleks I don't think so. Patricia red.
- 3:44I'm not working with this hairy legs Highlander, I can't see him
- 3:48with stop trench. I can't see that.
- 3:51I believe will make it work and see that at all.
- 3:54I think it, I think it could have worked if it was first dr.
- 3:57Ben, and Polly, and all of those stories and in maybe even of the
- 4:02Daleks, but Nepali leave even a dollar, could be like his
- 4:06regeneration story. Yeah.
- 4:09What one story from season four? Would you like to see is a
- 4:12partner one instead boy every night the one I can't imagine
- 4:16him in is the underwater Menace because I seem so tailored for
- 4:20trout and being ridiculous when he's wearing those sunglasses
- 4:23dress, my physio woman, you know, online shocked, how will
- 4:27they get em Edwin Warwick to do that for him?
- 4:29Let's instead she can you imagine heart and with the
- 4:31Highlanders know, he's like oh hello Irene the old washer
- 4:35woman, you know, it's not a story.
- 4:38Although that would be a I could probably see him in that does
- 4:41dress up, doesn't you'll be a terrorist things?
- 4:44Yeah, pair of the Daleks would be brilliant and imagine trying
- 4:48to tell people you're stupid people in this Colony.
- 4:52Listen to me. I have fought against the Daleks
- 4:58a paradise, maybe probably not anymore.
- 5:00Hartnell would have been a good thing.
- 5:02Yeah, it's just, it's just never a nun and he's got a lot of
- 5:05episodes, but it's just never enough.
- 5:08We hope we also do questionnaire Dylan.
- 5:09Okay, next question. Chris, hogben og really is.
- 5:15I don't do it. Okay.
- 5:16He says I love 60s who but in your opinion was the series ever
- 5:20more experimental than in Season 3, starting in Galaxy for
- 5:26finishing with the war machines. So many different tones
- 5:28companions leaving dying, never really feeling safe.
- 5:31What a journey. Well, how wonderful for you to
- 5:34bring up Chris because I agree with you entirely, I do not
- 5:37think there is a more More experimental season.
- 5:40What do we got? Kind of seafloor, galaxy, galaxy
- 5:43Floor. Galaxy stop.
- 5:45Don't move. Galaxy for is flawed the Galaxy,
- 5:51which is like a very simple morality tale, that you've got
- 5:55what mission see unknown very Macho.
- 5:57Then the mythmakers which is a very smart sophisticated sort of
- 6:01Comedy historical term, come tragedy.
- 6:05What if it will say, come Anyway, carry on.
- 6:09What do they say that? Okay, thank you.
- 6:13What's the thing though? Isn't it?
- 6:15Yeah it's a turn of phrase. Yes.
- 6:17What did I say? Nay neee.
- 6:20I don't know how so this is not a grammar lesson.
- 6:23Anyway, then you've got the diet's master plan, which is a
- 6:27massive bold science fiction epic, then it's the mascara.
- 6:31But sir, Bartholomew XIV huge tragic.
- 6:33Historical story. Very dramatic.
- 6:35This is the art, which is this mad.
- 6:38Science fiction, Caper, but does this reflect all the behind the
- 6:41scenes, things going on behind all these different surfaces and
- 6:45things changing around because it's their Vision.
- 6:49The vision isn't clear of this season started, someone sat down
- 6:51and went right season. 3 of Doctor Who we're going to do all
- 6:54of these different things. It was like right we've got two
- 6:56weeks of this. I'll someone's left.
- 6:57Okay, now I'm coming in, I'm doing this and I'm coming in
- 6:59doing this and that's what you get as a whole.
- 7:02But then I think that's fine. That's like Adventure.
- 7:08Alfred it's the effect of Doctor Who spread across the seas.
- 7:11Yeah, yeah. Yes.
- 7:12It's amazingly. Good.
- 7:13And this one Bishop this ties in with some Gin Allenby has said
- 7:17about season 3 Shillings. It's a lingering just last week,
- 7:20you know, Tomb of the Cybermen is a, he says is season 3.
- 7:22The darkest show 04 darker show ever got the companion death in
- 7:27master plan Bleak ending in the massacre.
- 7:29No I don't think. Is it?
- 7:31It's the darkest. I think it's the most
- 7:33fatalistic. So it's like the most.
- 7:36You've got two stories on the trot.
- 7:38Or which basically end with massacres the massacre and
- 7:41dollies masked by where they don't really save anybody do
- 7:43they know? So we can't go there.
- 7:47I like that danger. I think maybe two on the Trot
- 7:50because like you get to the end of Dalek master plan, right?
- 7:53And it's like okay the whole planets dead?
- 7:55Sorry kingdoms dead, everyone's really sad.
- 7:57Well I have better Light Relief. Next week, episode 1, the
- 8:01massacre war of god. It's like Jesus but you are
- 8:06right? It's very adult.
- 8:07Very Very mature. I was going to say over that
- 8:10long period. You got the 12 weeks of Daleks
- 8:13master plan, you've started one week and by the time you get to
- 8:15the end of the massacre, that's a couple of months away.
- 8:17So it's spread out question for you then.
- 8:21Hmm. Because I say that those endings
- 8:23are probably, the more realistic doctors ever come because
- 8:26ultimately people do die in horrible ways and terrible
- 8:29things happen. We don't usually get Pappy Jolly
- 8:32endings, you know, how to Rina? Yeah, that's all right.
- 8:39We're never reach. The place of perfection is Red
- 8:44Hill and that convention for a she's brilliant.
- 8:47Isn't she fun? I would love to see more like,
- 8:50interviews with adriene Hill. Well, you've got our body has
- 8:53red hair with loving it and she appreciate a place in Doctor Who
- 8:57and she loved what she did. I get your ad Carolyn people
- 8:59there. Get you know moaning as you know
- 9:02why you're so Maudlin? Oh no, be more Andrew Neil
- 9:05please. Oh yeah more I'd read here.
- 9:08Yes, Carolyn Ford we had cut Cerrito for the first season
- 9:11little bit old much more fun. Brilliant.
- 9:14But you know, do you think do you think that's more realistic?
- 9:17Those sort of endings than, you know?
- 9:19Oh, we all lived happily ever after and it all the evil Was
- 9:22Defeated. We need a balanced.
- 9:24Really? I mean, you need some for every
- 9:26Daleks master plan, you need to chase, you know?
- 9:28So what's the bet, the right mix of the two and it isn't a very
- 9:3160s and the 70s. It's planet of the Daleks where
- 9:35the ending is. Basically loads of people got
- 9:37Basket in that. Tori poor.
- 9:40There's one have gotten up and down the ice volcano and I
- 9:44thought, I don't know his name but I sort of a load of the
- 9:46files get killed but at the end he says yeah you came back here
- 9:50or else but don't glamorize it and I know.
- 9:53Yeah. Anyway I thought sure what.
- 9:55Where we've got video anyway? That's the next question.
- 9:57Fraser Gregory oh dread to fit it's not marry avoid eat well he
- 10:01says why is everyone so obsessed with bringing Susan back?
- 10:05Good fucking question. I mean, She could not back.
- 10:08Then she couldn't act in Shakedown returnable santaros.
- 10:12She couldn't even act when she where you did it.
- 10:15The tiny bones in space and time.
- 10:18So why we want this Dreadful bloody actress back, which
- 10:22movement a convention? We went to, she goes home.
- 10:24Yeah, my agent tells me this week, really excited in the
- 10:27pipeline, nothing came of that, did it?
- 10:31No, I just want to quickly address, why Carolyn Ford
- 10:35irritates me. Okay, one is Kishimoto talent
- 10:39and to is because she's spent the last 34 years whinging about
- 10:45the That she was adopted 50 years whilst happily taking the
- 10:48paycheck to all these bloody events where you already know.
- 10:52I feel like, I feel like she exploits the fact that she was
- 10:55in there and also begrudges the fact that she's in it, and
- 10:58that's really weird. It feels really weird to be
- 11:01sitting there listening to somebody.
- 11:02We want was really about the fact that they don't have any
- 11:06Talent would redeem it though. If she came back suddenly into
- 11:10the 60th and there was a really touching see, by all accounts,
- 11:14she is coming back. But in what way would it you be
- 11:17like, Oh, I'm really glad Karen. I'm full came back.
- 11:20We've got Susan back that have to be that character moment that
- 11:23have to be that, you know, a scene between the doctor and
- 11:26Susan that being reunited. Can she put it on Rice could
- 11:30rescue Davis right as saying where the doctor the new doctor
- 11:33and Susan are reunited and it's touching as hell.
- 11:37Yes. Could Caroline for fucking
- 11:39Bobby? Yes, she could.
- 11:42Ha ha ha, the end of the end of documentation of Earth rush
- 11:46because he's amazing exit. See, one day I shall come back,
- 11:49you know, and then he goes off and she's just there staring at
- 11:53the floor. Like, there's no tears, there's
- 11:55no emotion. And, you know, and the family
- 11:58drops, the Tardis key and the little complain, a lot of
- 12:01effort. Yeah, then she goes off to be a
- 12:06teenage bride. I've been told who to marry
- 12:12Strange phrase that the answer to your question is, God knows.
- 12:18All right. Now if you told me Maureen,
- 12:20O'Brien was come back as Vicki. I'll come my pants.
- 12:23I'll be very excited. This also links in with a
- 12:26question. Andy.
- 12:27Parkinson said, he says, if Susan had developed more as her
- 12:31original role had suggested as an unearthly child, what would
- 12:35you have liked to seen her do and could Carolyn Ford of done
- 12:38it. I mean, let's just say what
- 12:40would you like to see more? She thought she was going to be
- 12:42playing some sort of Avengers scale, I but I didn't see I
- 12:47doing, I mean, the, the, in the sensor right, says, the
- 12:51telepathic moment. But then the doctor just treats
- 12:53her like a teenager and as a go and won't let her go off and do
- 12:57anything. He's not going to let go of
- 12:58karate. Chopping everyone all over the
- 13:00place, he won't even let her read.
- 13:01Someone's mind for one minute high high priest of sacrifice.
- 13:10Hey, With her skills. Supposedly you don't think
- 13:24that's what she was going to be doing it.
- 13:26She could have pulled that off. I mean she couldn't really shed,
- 13:30some scientific knowledge didn't she?
- 13:32But she didn't really in terms of applying the title to help in
- 13:35the dog to all she said was it's a 47 grandfather.
- 13:39I mean anybody can go up and read that vote locator.
- 13:41Doesn't take special scientific Powers a second.
- 13:44So I have to say, Mark doesn't an incredible impression of
- 13:48Susan running through all of our through a little binary, run
- 13:53other a little bit. It's also the little sort of
- 13:58stumble, because the camera Cuts were, then she gets a cute, then
- 14:01she starts running, oh my God, it's the best movie comes
- 14:04running into root of x, that's a skill, actually, that is a
- 14:07skill, running water. No making it look like you're
- 14:10running in the forest when you've got like, Like one meter
- 14:12of Studio that is very, very well done.
- 14:15That's a skill. She had trouble doing that sort
- 14:19of sexy dancing, and unearthly child, bam bum, bada bada bum.
- 14:24Ya. Maybe run a bit more of that,
- 14:27she'd been a bit sexier and a bit weirder.
- 14:30She probably could have done that because she is a bit weird
- 14:33but then maybe Barbara with him would have had to been a little
- 14:35bit weaker in terms of the story.
- 14:37Plot of what you could do. You couldn't have to, I mean,
- 14:40never mind any time. Serving the plot always be a
- 14:43goddess. Barber need to have that
- 14:45somebody in trouble and it is not Barbara.
- 14:49It's got to be Susan. And just Susan, just went OT
- 14:51take. Yeah.
- 14:53That Jared one bit. I actually really like of hers
- 14:56is when she goes, fucking nuts with those scissors?
- 14:59Yeah, every week she can't go wrong with Paris isn't exactly.
- 15:07She could have got more dumb. Couldn't see.
- 15:10Well, what if it was a joke. Stab, stab him season to the
- 15:14barber and the Aztecs. Now she could have pulled off by
- 15:18saying she couldn't have known like I'm like, I'll be the
- 15:23teenage Aztec priest has bring me this ring me this, I feel
- 15:27like some of the companion Chronicles, I think it's Karen
- 15:29and forth as he does a fair stab at read some of those.
- 15:33Find a bit boring in the law. Stories ones that they do, you
- 15:37know, like the third person was, but in the first person once
- 15:40she's actually pretty good. Good.
- 15:42But that's the best acting I think.
- 15:44I've seen her do. I've just never seen her.
- 15:46Do any other writing on TV? I think she did some other
- 15:48stuff. Should shake down returnable
- 15:50santara. Sure, awful.
- 15:52Anyone can watch that and she's like, you are drunk.
- 15:57Just like my friend. This drunk old fashion designer,
- 16:00that wears, this weird sort of velvety Shell suit that she
- 16:09washes up there, doing the rigging on this spaceship, it's
- 16:12all very strange. Anyway, Mark doleac told ya it
- 16:18was a very complicated names pronounce.
- 16:19You know, many people also deduced a quarter which periods
- 16:25in history that were never visited in the 60s.
- 16:28Do you think would have made for a good pure historical setting?
- 16:32Our that's a great question. I'm sorry.
- 16:34I said that about your dick really good.
- 16:37Ian. Oh, like I know they do it later
- 16:43on within the chip know where I would have to say the partition
- 16:47of India because we have like there's the law story with
- 16:58Alexander the Great, that would have been cool to see.
- 17:00I mean, it would have been bit Marco, Polo meets Aztecs.
- 17:02I got, I think that mean Gardens of Babylon.
- 17:05That's, that's what it is. Isn't it Alexander?
- 17:08The Great in the Babylon is there for awhile.
- 17:10For ya could have gone back in time.
- 17:13That Jesus could have gone. Oh Jesus Christ.
- 17:19Yes. Yeah, that's a red dwarf.
- 17:21Episode of that companion for nickel with the doctor and Susan
- 17:27pre unearthly child. And aren't they in like Russia
- 17:31or Germany or some other Russia is not Mother Russia?
- 17:34No, the Alchemists. Then all caught up in sort of
- 17:39water or something. I can't remember what it is.
- 17:42I encourage any stuff. This ain't really historical,
- 17:44but I'd love to have seen them go back to sort of, like the
- 17:46early 50s. So just a decade earlier sort
- 17:49of, you know, jazz clubs and Smokey things or things like
- 17:52that. You know, Barbara is just like
- 17:56the feather boa. Hell's rounding beings got have
- 17:58like the suit-and-tie Fedora fedora hat.
- 18:01He has to play poker and stuff and then one heart.
- 18:11The waitress. Though it's just the Caper it's
- 18:38just a proper like old-fashioned.
- 18:39What if its historical they just get caught up in events, don't
- 18:43they? So it's going to be how do we
- 18:45get out of this or they get caught up in?
- 18:47They've got a nice save the casino or something you know
- 18:50Star Trek episode anyway very well?
- 18:59Darren lit roundels. Oh yeah, without writer 60s, who
- 19:03would you have liked to have seen?
- 19:04Seen more scripts from in the 70s and 80s.
- 19:08I would have loved to have seen John do karate zarkan space and
- 19:12thanks to the magic of big finish.
- 19:14They don't waste any tossed out script we soon.
- 19:17Will that I think else, John Lee Frosty was a really good writer.
- 19:23Wasn't you think of his free Aztecs?
- 19:25The massacre wasn't the massacre.
- 19:27Rewritten, a lot by was a Donald Tosh.
- 19:29I don't think but then the old, the target was John Liu karate,
- 19:33wasn't it? Wow, I would love a new.
- 19:36Did the ark? Yeah.
- 19:38Something, is he was so ambitious?
- 19:40Yeah, you know, it was a bit over, you know, over time.
- 19:42Was that guy's name. Centrist Mo?
- 19:45Oh, listen, to them, you know, about and we'll try inhales into
- 19:49the 80s. No, because he was always
- 19:52Rewritten terrorist attacks. Always you, nobody has what I
- 19:56just did. I ask for is usually Denis time
- 19:59maker that he has and it's Mother's Day Jerry Davis and
- 20:07kill Peddler but Jared Davis in Revenge on assignments or maybe
- 20:10not. No.
- 20:11Oh my God. Yeah, David Whittaker.
- 20:14I would like to see more David Whittaker.
- 20:16Well into the 80s. That would have been amazed.
- 20:19That was heartbreaking. More saw that documentary was
- 20:21something about how he was effectively canceled for his
- 20:24political views, really, really interesting.
- 20:27Anyone else. How could you live like haseman
- 20:31and Lincoln have gone on to do more after abominable snowmen or
- 20:36dominators know, Gregory coming off?
- 20:39Do you know? It would just be more to it.
- 20:41They'd have it would be the Bryan Adams effect.
- 20:43You would just be more, Yeti stories or more of the same
- 20:45things. I've got one.
- 20:46I got one for you. Peter Ling are for the Mind
- 20:49robber, Fame. Oh yeah, I see what else he
- 20:52could have done. Oh my God.
- 20:53Yes, peeling, because I should drop poetry over my brother
- 20:57stole story, you know? We'll take you all the time,
- 21:01you're on. The he would love every one of
- 21:04those action adventure stories with me.
- 21:07Your name is Gulliver's Travels, drink, your coffee, girl.
- 21:27I refuse to follow that White Rabbit about,
- 21:40From Robert Valentine did. Okay, if you're going to argue
- 21:45and why not it's up to her that this is the greatest and best
- 21:48decade of the series. Why would that be because it is
- 21:55I think the 60s is the best decade of Doctor Who I think the
- 21:58first three years are sort of the most ambitious.
- 22:02And the most diverse that the show ever was.
- 22:06And I don't think it has anything to do with the fact
- 22:08that it hasn't found a formula that I think it's the fact that
- 22:11they just were ambitious writers, and they were trying as
- 22:15much as they possibly could. It does lose something in
- 22:18trousers time, when it goes more formulaic and 70s and the 80s.
- 22:25Extent is formulaic depending on who the scriptwriter is.
- 22:28You know what? You get would be made.
- 22:29You know what you get were very sword.
- 22:31And you know what? You get from Andrew cartmel on.
- 22:33The hull is the sixties the best ERA.
- 22:38I think so. Yeah, and Mark belgians reply to
- 22:42that, and this is what he says about this mokpo sure.
- 22:45Is he handsome? Oh, he's handsome.
- 22:49He's got a lovely beard. Oh, Mark to take away your beard
- 22:54anyway. So go on, it's the most
- 22:55mysterious and Eerie decade of who and the most spooky, I love
- 22:58it. When they have a whole episode,
- 23:00just wandering around and abandoned Planet before.
- 23:02Anyone else turns up, I love you.
- 23:04Love you, love Susan on her own running, back to the Tardis in
- 23:07The Darlings. So otherworldly, it's at.
- 23:10So, runny otherworldly, bad acting.
- 23:16I need someone at school Primary School.
- 23:18School. They used to run like they do in
- 23:19time and Ronnie with the arms back like that used to run by
- 23:23school like that. Yeah.
- 23:25And he said it was quicker to run that way.
- 23:26It was more aerodynamic. Oh yeah.
- 23:50So we both think that the 60s is the best and our argument is
- 23:53because that's what we think all of time and space podcast.
- 23:57Oh, yes. Hello.
- 23:58What is the best story from the 1960s?
- 24:01And why is it the Daleks monster plan?
- 24:03Or you could make a very good case for that.
- 24:06Now I know you and Sarah choking cough that Sarah to nearly gave
- 24:10up the podcast. Halfway three times laughter?
- 24:13Yeah no she didn't. You go back and listen to those
- 24:16episodes. She said it Was too long anyway.
- 24:20I think I think it's aiso cause it's like, well, this is what
- 24:23sums up the 60s. There's so many great stories.
- 24:27I mean, I would, I love the Chase and we say that's a great
- 24:30story of the 60s by no dice up our things on such as you have a
- 24:34bit of everything in there. Yeah.
- 24:36From this. Yeah, the time.
- 24:38Yep. Throws everything that we know
- 24:40as Doctor Who and it's all in their packaging, 112 amazing
- 24:44episode. That's why season 3 is so
- 24:46amazing. It's because like I said is got
- 24:50the the full gamut of Doctor Who the tragedy the historical, the
- 24:53future, all of that the Epic, the intimate, everything the
- 24:57doctor who can do and then right in the heart of it, you've got
- 25:00Daleks master plan, doing it all again.
- 25:03Literally, everything is in their comedy episode 7,
- 25:06Christmas special all done by our chaplain or the meddling
- 25:10monk. I've marooned, you are the
- 25:13planet take us? Yeah.
- 25:16Tragedy deaths action, everything is it that its master
- 25:21plan. Maybe the war games, I love to
- 25:24walk outside and the other pair of the Daleks.
- 25:29There's so many greats but I think I'd rather than just sums
- 25:32it all up. I think for me I really want to
- 25:33watch it. Now we can we watch the Recon
- 25:35later? Okay.
- 25:36Well do cardio country, I've heard that it I do that in
- 25:40fucking episodes. Again, another one from frasor.
- 25:44God, who is the Eric? Say word of the 60.
- 25:49Wow, who's the controversial sort of lacking talent?
- 25:53I don't know if I know. Well, there was that producer
- 25:59that came along. Wasn't there?
- 26:00Just for in season 3, he didn't stick around very long but then
- 26:04all those stories we've already talked about.
- 26:05It was involved in violence, master plan Massacre if makers
- 26:09are all amazing. Now who was the one that's all?
- 26:11Got rid of every you know do Steven and started clearing the
- 26:14decks of it may be, it may. Maybe in this Lloyd as the one
- 26:18that was in terms of our I'm but they don't.
- 26:21So then, you know why I'm just coming in to do what I, and it's
- 26:24located in, right? And the right is where all the
- 26:26on the die. If he was trying to sort
- 26:28everything around here who's suddenly the rate of about a
- 26:32million again, Eric's I wouldn't have that effect though whether
- 26:36the other direction, Victor Pemberton.
- 26:43Yeah, I suppose it was a cappella kit.
- 26:47Peddler was asked, what he was just studying scientific
- 26:49consultant, Pacific advisor, advisors, I don't think there is
- 26:54anyone comparable? I don't think I felt because, I
- 26:56think he much everyone involved has some Talent.
- 26:58Yeah. In the 60s.
- 27:00I think. I know we haven't, we were harsh
- 27:03last. It's just another.
- 27:05We would you were, but they didn't have the Hiatus and the
- 27:08BBC, One trying to get rid of Doctor Who it's extinct.
- 27:17Okay. Okay.
- 27:19Next question is from mrs. Remington fan.
- 27:21And that's David, that's all David.
- 27:23Yeah, if you could save one of them, one missing story but it
- 27:27means getting rid of an existing one, which would it be.
- 27:29And why my people was trying to get us to junk stories, okay?
- 27:34If I could save one, I already said this in the last episode, I
- 27:36would say Marco Polo. I would love to look out for
- 27:40What from the 60s Sorry, for I saw, it might have to be the
- 27:44dominators. Yeah, and then, if a show that
- 27:47would have an effect because everyone would love be like, I
- 27:49wonder what it was like hard and it really like sounds and they'd
- 27:54be all this research. I mean, like the courts, walk
- 27:56like this and they did this and they look like this and people
- 28:00will be like full can do. Yeah.
- 28:02There might be like a man, it should have been on the screen.
- 28:04We don't want to fuck her and that spaceship sorcerer.
- 28:08We lie all those the most amazing shot.
- 28:10All we've got is a blurry telling snap drunk.
- 28:11Or a junkyard blinked and missed it A Lash.
- 28:14And this was the best-looking story over.
- 28:22And imagine on the soundtrack enough, that lovely fellow, who
- 28:25really aliens are you? I shall write that down in my
- 28:28notebook. Yeah, he did.
- 28:31I think it probably would do the Dominator, some good.
- 28:33You know, you couldn't see it. You can imagine the vast city of
- 28:37the Dolls, iums, can you get some of that back?
- 28:40Drop a painted backdrop. Love time Jean curious job.
- 28:43You know watch TV all day and just take some photos.
- 28:47God easy, you know that like that bit in Smugglers, where Ben
- 28:51doesn't nip slip. Yeah, had the God he snapped at
- 28:54that point otherwise. We never want to see Marco
- 28:57craze. Nipples very /.
- 29:01Do you think he just snapped? He just snapped at what is it
- 29:03was like one a minute or something.
- 29:05So it didn't really matter because you get those really
- 29:07blurry ones, don't you? Yeah.
- 29:09Oh did he just accidentally Pursuit?
- 29:11He's distracted by something like a the camera to warm up or
- 29:15so it didn't it. I don't know how sophisticated
- 29:20was but I was a 60 though. It was that sophisticated I'll
- 29:25tell you more about him. Somebody should do an experiment
- 29:28and Tutela snaps of all the 70s and 80s stories.
- 29:31And see what ye how the story comes across in a series of
- 29:34still pretty. Recreated, the Genex cure
- 29:37experiments. Do you remember that chapter of
- 29:39the degree, the Palm ours? Dr. Burke in the past octave
- 29:43range where he tells it all. For a series of Stills is taking
- 29:46the piss out until it snaps. I love that.
- 29:50Okay, next question from Gavin. I'll give it to him.
- 29:55Which Todd is team? I say what is all this coming
- 29:58along? I'll be I'll be watching his
- 30:00progress on the Twitter and you know his muscles are like the
- 30:04size of rocks now anyway. Sorry.
- 30:07Which tie this team has the best dynamic in the 60s.
- 30:10Personally, I'm torn between the first talk to Ian Barbara and
- 30:13Susan. All the second with Ben and
- 30:16Polly. You're going to answer that
- 30:17while I plug my laptop because my battery's about to go Okay,
- 30:20so what has the best set of regulars?
- 30:22Yeah. Oh well art for me is first
- 30:26doctor and Ian Barbara and Vicki.
- 30:31And I should tell you for a while one.
- 30:33I've got really Susan, she's fucking annoying and Vicky comes
- 30:36in full of gumption. And you know, ready to take over
- 30:40revolutions on things up for the adventure in Rome and having a
- 30:45jolly old time of it all. And you got Ian and Barbara who
- 30:48are the ultimate Adopt a power couple and when I want to stop
- 30:52sir I mean I think it's just perfect.
- 30:53However, second or maybe join first would be S dr.
- 30:59Jamie and Zoe. And that's just because they're
- 31:01a bunch of kids going around time and space.
- 31:03What's your answer? I've managed to last.
- 31:05Just how long it took you to run upstairs and grab the room.
- 31:08The I think first up to Ian, Barbara, and Vicki.
- 31:12Yeah. I quite like, if you say poly
- 31:16better, Jamie, I'm those because you have sex or two of them, not
- 31:21I don't really agree with. Oh no, I'm sorry.
- 31:24I thought Gavin said the first dr.
- 31:26Benton Polly. I was like, I don't agree with
- 31:27that Dynamic. Did you never read the book?
- 31:30Ten little aliens by Stephen Cole.
- 31:33No, was fabulous. I quite like the first Doctor,
- 31:35Steven and Vicki as well. Oh, yeah.
- 31:38Steven brief like Stephen and dodo.
- 31:42Why is this? Come on, just think it's fun.
- 31:44Because then the Stephen saw of those like the younger sort of
- 31:48sibling. In a way and Stephens got a
- 31:50lookout for a. She's always like oh no, don't
- 31:52do that though. Don't know if I quite like that.
- 31:56I don't like you anymore. You're a bad clown.
- 31:59She's a bit more Reckless than Vicki.
- 32:01Yeah, I think you do need that but not annoying and screaming
- 32:05like Susan. It's that balance between Vicki
- 32:07and Susan. I think that she actually has
- 32:09and she's got a bit of the what strategy was great about those
- 32:12areas. You don't take no shit.
- 32:14She just got out of the bloody monsters and I are you up to?
- 32:17No good. What are you doing?
- 32:27Hey, what are you up to? What are you hiding in that
- 32:33Carly bunker? Who else is there?
- 32:38That's like a big villain. What?
- 32:41Don't you go up against? I'll just any can finding her
- 32:43and she's totally just lasted the whole series.
- 32:49Accra she won't say anything. She and actually should be
- 32:53dancing and singing with all the she bought.
- 32:55Actually tell you. There are such fingers macro, he
- 33:00would love all of that, all the pampering, and the stuff at the,
- 33:03the mackerel. I wouldn't she, yes.
- 33:06Well, she loves going to the hottest nightclub in town.
- 33:08So, the only time I do it. It doesn't work.
- 33:11Is the celestial toymaker where do do is just completely written
- 33:16as area Susan, and I say back to Tombstone or I'll have to shoot
- 33:26you. Now she gets again out.
- 33:37Hold on. Do do you know she's got stop
- 33:39sleep with people getting STDs. Okay, thank you o.
- 33:43Martyr you've got some problems, I'll tell ya.
- 33:46Another one from Darren lit Randall's.
- 33:48Okay. If Richard Sin had directed
- 33:50another story after the chase. Which one do you think he would
- 33:53have done the least damage to that?
- 33:56That I love a chance Direction? I love the chase.
- 33:59I think he did really well, all those different elements are
- 34:02different, seen every different scenario every week, a different
- 34:05set, a different thing. It wasn't like it was, you know,
- 34:08one set for four episodes. He did really well and he's got
- 34:12the Daleks. It's got all of those other bits
- 34:15and pieces. Brilliant.
- 34:17How can you love about your mind?
- 34:19My, how can you praise Richard mind and slag off, Kenny with
- 34:23Baynes direction? Or you can even holes of 91,
- 34:26who's Katie McBain, he's a director of the holes and I
- 34:29don't know is who's not? You're making that up.
- 34:33No director, you know, any moving, you know, it's the guy
- 34:37that isn't it. No, that's not directed horns of
- 34:43my Lord. I've never heard that name in my
- 34:45life. You're joking with me.
- 34:54Say it to the homes of 91 will be real, really?
- 34:59Yeah. Okay.
- 35:00This is no mon trapped in The Labyrinth.
- 35:02I think we should become richer mind directed home tonight
- 35:04morning, with been production. It's saying what's the question
- 35:09again, if you direct another story after the chase, which one
- 35:12would he have done? The least damage to?
- 35:13So what would you like to Racine him?
- 35:15I decoded Galaxy for because it's very simple.
- 35:19To do a few sets and a couple of actors.
- 35:22It could have, you know, made that really atrocious period.
- 35:26I think you're right. I think he shows the doll is
- 35:28extremely well in. He likes them brilliantly in the
- 35:31chase. It's just he can't do action.
- 35:33He cannot fucking direct action to save his life.
- 35:36He's got a handful though. He's got a lot on your plate
- 35:42right next question, it's your handful of he's dealing with a
- 35:46lot saying, okay, it's not good. He's been more specific and I,
- 35:50will you say face, okay? Another one from frasor.
- 35:54Yeah, which future Human Society had the best costumes?
- 35:58Oh, it's dominators for sure. I love those shower curtains.
- 36:01Not those weird underpants on the outside that you get from
- 36:04seeds to death. Oh no, they're the deal with
- 36:07those Dreadful ones in the ice forest, remember I sort of
- 36:10swirly 60 pounds, they're a bit more fitted they wearing in the
- 36:14security kitchen. And they are, do they sort of
- 36:16got those, the curtains that shredded aren't I?
- 36:19That's quite a sports. Not hula-hula, we do.
- 36:22I think, you know what I'm talking about?
- 36:23Luau luau like, yeah. So cross Millennia through was
- 36:30really bad as I was Dreadful leather pants with the house
- 36:32curve and over the garlic. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:36Yeah. They just need to like just call
- 36:37those holes on his stick, on some wall up but they've got
- 36:40those nice advantage in those houses, you know, plasticy
- 36:45blankets which don't feel comfortable at all.
- 36:50I think the conclusion that we're drawing is that designers
- 36:53in the 60s, were far out, baby. Okay.
- 36:58And you have concern says, would you like to see the sixties
- 37:02stories colorized? I'd like a few Choice.
- 37:06One colorized. Help make them more appealing to
- 37:09younger audience. I think possibly.
- 37:12Yes. And I think there is a very good
- 37:14reason why they did color for the animations and, you know, Do
- 37:18you wash your animations in color or in black and white?
- 37:22Black and why I watch them in color.
- 37:24I prefer them in color, macro tearing colors, amazing.
- 37:28It's like, it's nice to have the choice.
- 37:29Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:32I think I think it would make them more accessible.
- 37:34And I am really excited that there is talk of them doing a
- 37:38colorization in the future. So, yes, I did another one from
- 37:43denim Reese. How many hearts does the first
- 37:45doctor have How many hearts does he have?
- 37:49Is no story where he only has. Someone says he's got heartbeat,
- 37:52there's no reference to two horses in there until later on.
- 37:55Yeah, that's why so, how many does he have?
- 37:58Well, I'll tell you Dylan, it is the truth or in that the BBC
- 38:01eighth doctor novel sometime. Never the doctors parted
- 38:06retroactively Rewritten when a crystal man from the dawn of
- 38:09time takes on the Visage of the doctor and he has a a character
- 38:16in it called Zach. Han who then has a memory wives
- 38:21and things? Her name is Susan at the end of
- 38:24the story and the Crystal man turns into the image, he takes
- 38:29on the doctors memories and turns into William Hartnell.
- 38:32So, it's supposed to be a way of him because, you know, they took
- 38:35away the doctors memory in the a filter range.
- 38:38This was supposed to be a way for Justin Richards.
- 38:39Basic say, this is how you could have done it without him, ever
- 38:42ever in his memory. So he's got no heart at all.
- 38:46He's a crystal man from the dawn of time.
- 38:48The rule book. Yeah if we just make him a load
- 38:50of shit out for you looking to make it happen, it's got ice
- 38:54crystals commenting on it. Holding the Tardis with the
- 38:57glowing eyes, Crystal scalar because the doctor and there's
- 39:00an become Susan. Anyway, I think he's probably
- 39:03got is, he's got one heart in the 60s, but he's retroactively
- 39:07Rewritten to have two hearts in the 70s.
- 39:09Okay, he has two hearts. That's dr.
- 39:14Grace of Lord different puncture.
- 39:19Of course your SEC. What's that woman saved?
- 39:24Oh, also named Curtis, dr. Holloway it's Brian.
- 39:31What do you want? Sorry,
- 39:43but you can put companions with different doctors.
- 39:45So if you wanted to swap them up, or would you do?
- 39:48Okay. Well no, I mean I would have
- 39:50said the second Doctrine do do, but you can tell them apart with
- 39:52their hair. Oh, could you imagine first
- 40:00talked to Victoria and you couldn't have to see?
- 40:02Don't require child, dr. Stephen Stephen will be left
- 40:05twice. The high heat actually looking
- 40:07up at him. No way.
- 40:10And I've got it. I've got it first dr.
- 40:12Steven J. Me and Ben but first dr.
- 40:16Goes out. And I Go in.
- 40:21Imagine them as Steven and Polly as a team.
- 40:25Imagine that Dynamic he get fed up about pretty quickly, what
- 40:30you're telling me, you're an astronaut from the future.
- 40:33Dr. We taking this swinging 60s lady with us.
- 40:36Are you ever serious to? You cannot steal these about
- 40:41this but I don't, I don't believe it.
- 40:44Stephen does say more things to me.
- 40:49He does that. So I don't scientific.
- 40:51Researches are this inhuman. I'm off.
- 40:54Doesn't quite say that. Does he and don't you think?
- 40:57She looks like my granddaughter Susan.
- 40:59Oh, hey, Steven, I love your stripy jumpers.
- 41:01I said, one of those would kind of be street, but let me go to
- 41:10the conclusion that all the companions 60s except for Susan,
- 41:14our Fab they are. And I dig their Bob Geer, Tom
- 41:19Newsome asks term new theorem. What 1960s monster would you
- 41:23want to get as big as Dalek Mania was Don't you dare
- 41:28something? Cause I probably should know if
- 41:32it would have been the mechanoids.
- 41:34Oh me, nuh English. English annoyed Mania be make a
- 41:39Mania. And so that if I was still going
- 41:42now, Mecca, Bingo sponsored by Lottery.
- 41:57Scratch card. You could have William Hart,
- 41:59noise to the Mystic make Draw the balls.
- 42:08My child. It should have read the
- 42:12mechanoid. You think we can about mechanoid
- 42:15jumpers. Imagine a mechanoid place so you
- 42:18could just make one out of a cardboard box time, you made the
- 42:21time as base visualizer out of a cardboard box and up on the zoom
- 42:24call. I never wanted to have any more
- 42:28though. They for any ask.
- 42:30What is the high point of 60s, Who and the low point of 60s who
- 42:35don't waste money every time we say, 62, I I'm immediately
- 42:38thinking. William Hartnell time.
- 42:39I haven't even really am I? Yeah, you know what about
- 42:42Patrick troughton's time would, you know, I say the high point
- 42:45of 60s, who are do one for Hartnell and one betrayal, and I
- 42:48think it's the to epochs is the data is master plan.
- 42:51In the war games is the war games.
- 42:54That epic is that just about five episodes of padding until
- 42:57then, we're okay. The same way as the Wall Gang
- 43:05Stars. I like the beginning.
- 43:07I say as a pure historical wide about 4 episodes out and
- 43:12literally a like an onion it gets bigger and bigger.
- 43:15Till the point where fucking God himself has descended and made
- 43:20time like honey, you can't get back to the Tardis.
- 43:25You can't escape. It's fucking anything like that.
- 43:28I just think in the middle is just a little.
- 43:30You could it doesn't have to be 10.
- 43:32I'm just saying what that bit too.
- 43:44I see, are you, are you chaps lost late, Jennifer.
- 43:48She's amazing. They like, I love her.
- 43:50Yeah, actually, I quite like that, man.
- 43:52He pops in and goes home. Oh, hello chaps.
- 43:55What's going on here? All right.
- 43:56Well, Cheerio another fella and then the safe explodes.
- 44:00He's like what the devil. So what's a low Point?
- 44:03Okay, sorry. Well, I for one, they're the low
- 44:06point of the 60s. Yes.
- 44:09I've refused to hear anything about the web Planet because
- 44:11it's so ambitious. It's not a low Point, all the
- 44:15space museum because it's got a brilliant episode 1.
- 44:19What's up, what's don't go leaving daughter the character
- 44:22but that's another story. A lot of the companions, not
- 44:25having that, you know, Ben and Polly didn't have a great
- 44:27ending, what's up with the hair and the attention to the
- 44:30characters? What could have been done?
- 44:32Yeah, there is that there is a light and episode or what's the
- 44:36most of other ambitious, the most Like are we just not
- 44:40putting any effort into this? Because I think pretty much all
- 44:43the 60s. There's a lot of effort going
- 44:44into it. I'm space pirates.
- 44:50Some effort done with a model work of things like that.
- 44:52I'm going to say that cause I'm scared Corey for free.
- 44:59We got some curtains, let's just get on with it.
- 45:02We've got a few cardboard boxes, we can make fried balls out.
- 45:06Maybe I can't think of any time where you can say there's no
- 45:09effort like for me probably off the most boring story.
- 45:14You're going to figure out bad of these 60s for me is probably
- 45:19the This one's. I just thought it really dull.
- 45:23Really do I find it sort of ponderously directed.
- 45:27I like Sam Briggs quite a bit but I just I just think it's six
- 45:31episodes of. We're not a lot happens.
- 45:33I quite like the setting though of it.
- 45:35I'm looking at 30. Maybe it's two times to Haines.
- 45:37That's where our awesome. Oh yeah.
- 45:39I was incredibly when I saw that with all the time, but second
- 45:43home to me, they just left me on the runway get my plane bugger
- 45:47off. Okay, what's next?
- 45:50John been Salvia. Well, done, you're getting
- 45:53there. Do you think that there's a
- 45:54ghost of a chance that we will see any more missing episode,
- 45:57recoveries? And if so, which ones would you
- 45:59like to see the most? And why, I think, every time we
- 46:02say, there's no more kobach more return.
- 46:05So I think we probably will, and they'll turn up in weird places,
- 46:08like they always do, which one? Well, I keep saying Marco Polo.
- 46:14So Joe, I also going to say I would really like to see some of
- 46:17those ones that nobody talks about Sam.
- 46:19She's of the Smugglers. Love those those two.
- 46:22There's no fucker talks about that, but I think if you
- 46:24actually could see the location working the Smugglers and watch
- 46:27the Savages, they'd be much. I think something from story
- 46:32that we don't get anything off, LOL the massacre, or something,
- 46:34just a little bit Baker's. It was just like another sensor
- 46:37clip, you know? Oh, nope, it's just any of those
- 46:46bits? No, no.
- 46:55Captain pike. Of course I will memorize the
- 47:09sounds okay. Who is the?
- 47:15This is from Darren live rounds again.
- 47:17Who is the best director to come out of 62?
- 47:19Douglas County field. That's just so easy.
- 47:22Oh, he said, you can't choose Doctor's Care.
- 47:29Oh yeah, my robot or, but he didn't even the protein powder
- 47:34horse, white for the mind. Robert, he's very clever
- 47:36director. Load of cocaine stores are
- 47:43fucking weird, anyone else, so oh, yeah, Michael Ferguson
- 47:49match. And if what's his name, David
- 47:51Maloney did Freeze Frame Cliffhangers in the 60s.
- 47:55Oh yeah. Well, it did make that false
- 47:57freeze frame. I love that.
- 47:58It doesn't look that and then it turns into a picture, doesn't
- 48:01it? Yeah, more of that fake.
- 48:03Any McBain doesn't exist. He doesn't exist.
- 48:09Yeah, no, I was Michael Ferguson as well.
- 48:10Who did the war machines and the Seas of death?
- 48:13And the ambassador's of death, he's a brilliant director.
- 48:17So it's all these ones that are sort of Innovative and they
- 48:22refuse to, just sort of point and shoot.
- 48:25I actually think war is Hussein is a very good director as well.
- 48:29Yeah, it's a shame. You didn't come back, what he
- 48:31did by Polo. Yeah.
- 48:32After Marco Polo, that was very early on you think of of
- 48:37Hinrich, this is, but it's from right around of Terror.
- 48:40I don't think. I mean, why are you looking so
- 48:43marvelous and heydrich. I've been a soured I'm in a
- 48:47desperate situation. Shut up cat.
- 48:49Errol so sorry for Carolina Ford.
- 48:55Well, I just think right, I don't know.
- 48:56It's just go back to kind of fold again for a Son of God.
- 48:59Well, I mean, I can't winch bar a little bit on this.
- 49:01She spent the last four years whinging about being in dogs
- 49:03road. Yeah, true true.
- 49:05Okay, next sigh heart. So I heart my best, the best,
- 49:09the best day God which 60s Tardis team?
- 49:11Would you most like to travel with absolutely Polly better
- 49:15Jamie and I have all of them as well.
- 49:19I don't Government without free. Next Steven, Alexander, what was
- 49:25the first 60 stories you saw? And what did you think of it at
- 49:27the time? Oh my God, I think it was the
- 49:30Aztecs, you know. Oh no, it wasn't.
- 49:32It was that VHS or the seeds of death?
- 49:34I couldn't figure out what was going on.
- 49:36The quality was terrible, but then afterwards, it was the
- 49:39Woolworths exclusive of the Aztecs and I remember buying it
- 49:43going on. What's this boring history
- 49:45lesson and being completely beguiled by it?
- 49:49I was, I couldn't believe that historical Doctor Who was that?
- 49:53Good that the dialogue was that poety the news?
- 49:57It was that strong, the sort of moral dilemma the acting.
- 50:01It blew me away. I think that's where my love of
- 50:04the story calls came from, but you mind robber.
- 50:09No wonder you was in love Rod. Who who wrote?
- 50:15Yeah, I'll be there who want to school rod.
- 50:19How many distinct phrases are there within the 60s and what
- 50:22characteristics or type of fart? Oh, God is the complicated, what
- 50:28I got, how many distinct phrases are there with the 60s?
- 50:32And what characterizes or typifies type of funny things of
- 50:37God, each of these phrases phases.
- 50:41I've completely read this wrong try again.
- 50:44How many distinct phases are there in the 60s phrases?
- 50:49Thinking I was thinking, grandmother vases with in the
- 51:0060s and what typifies, these type of files.
- 51:04These are times of such a behind-the-scenes
- 51:05Merry-Go-Round, it's not as immediately obvious as Terrance
- 51:08dicks. I relates or J, and T, and I
- 51:11say, Well done that. Sorry.
- 51:13Okay, you ready? I've got one up.
- 51:15This actually I think you've got the the first set of regulars
- 51:18that's what. Yeah.
- 51:21Yes and the second set of regular Sunday both on the
- 51:23Verity Lambert but the counter got a different feel because of
- 51:26Susan than whites. I think that would be all mine
- 51:29because I think the Vicki are, or somebody everything's a bit
- 51:31bigger. Dalek invasion of a suede web
- 51:34Planet, the chase. It's all sort of bigger stories.
- 51:37Then you've got the John while 0 which is that little bit in the
- 51:39series 3 where it's very dark, then you've got the Jerry Davis
- 51:44era which is where all the base on the sea salts come in and see
- 51:47some for early. Season 5 and then you've got the
- 51:51direct Sherwin error which is the Ed tail end of 5 into 6.
- 51:56That's my phases, the phases of the 60s very well but yeah I've
- 52:01got a question for you. Well, you know where we did
- 52:04Doctor in distress. Yeah, for the 90s.
- 52:07Yeah, mmm. Well it was almost cancelled in
- 52:10the 60s. What it Arthur War Games the
- 52:14bills and stress lat So and so he is SOS.
- 52:22When I find myself in times of trouble Mother, Susan speaking
- 52:33words of wisdom William Hartnell, who would you get
- 52:44Scylla black? Lulu Lulu.
- 52:47Okay. Who else is in the sea?
- 53:19Don't vote, I'm to the ionizer was right.
- 53:26It's like coming for you. Anyway, anyone with eyes?
- 53:30You could let you have the lion. He wouldn't hope Yeti wouldn't
- 53:35shoot. Okay cool.
- 53:38We got time for two more questions.
- 53:40Hey, may I just say doctor in distress featuring The Beatles
- 53:45and Cilla Black would just be the highlight of my life.
- 53:51Hunk surprise, surprise doctor who is back before your eyes.
- 53:58It's in color, and it's beat script.
- 54:01Anybody? Terrance dicks?
- 54:02Surprise, surprise. So it go, sorry, other how we
- 54:08get here? London Calling says, what was
- 54:11hello? London Calling.
- 54:12What was 62? Fandom like compared to the
- 54:15decades which come after it. When I first got there, I think.
- 54:20Oh yeah, or there's one picture of Ian Levine smashing this TV
- 54:24Ivan. It wasn't Ian Levine in the 60s
- 54:27apart from me and levena think of who was watching Doctor, Who
- 54:30in the 60s, this way is developing Obsession came from,
- 54:33you know, I mean Doctor, Who fandom was probably a spurious
- 54:37because it was all little kids, right?
- 54:38Into William Hartnell being like always.
- 54:49Very special, I don't think fandom really reached its peak,
- 54:54until sorry. It started and sort of the
- 54:57mid-70s and then exploded in the 80s.
- 55:02But people were writing in being live, people were lovely that
- 55:05just watch the Telly. Why do you not have two hearts?
- 55:07Or he didn't have two hearts, know he does.
- 55:08Or why did Polly do this or say this?
- 55:10And yeah, you certainly didn't have insane super fans telling
- 55:15people not to pay for their electricity bills and instead
- 55:18you are done. Aren't you buy the Blu-ray sets?
- 55:21It would have been totally nice nothing.
- 55:24But around that time, imagine if there was a filmed interview
- 55:28with William Hartnell that existed, just talking about
- 55:32Doctor Who and all that. That's what I would love
- 55:35although some of those actors and actresses from the time
- 55:38talking, imagine it's a shame because now I do the
- 55:44commentaries now and they can't really remember that much, kind
- 55:47of because it was history, it's just us.
- 55:49Some of these actors and actresses like that you just
- 55:52don't really see much of or you haven't heard much or at the
- 55:54time. Imagine if somebody had had that
- 55:57thought I don't know tape record an interview with them or I mean
- 56:01there's letters and things from William and I wasn't there but
- 56:03it's mostly talk to kids. Yeah, yeah yeah.
- 56:06Really I called you know who is that one reason that pantomime
- 56:08dressing room is an RBI but after all to and he's got a bit.
- 56:12Yeah like Learners and I'm a legitimate Act of the stage and
- 56:15screen is imagine if it was all season to Dalek Mania and he was
- 56:19like talking about the amazing, his experiment, he was as how
- 56:23amazing was and how what the response was, you know, to
- 56:28somebody that was in to see You know, when William Russell tools
- 56:32by the getting, in the form of a mouse and a he bring them in
- 56:34William Hartnell and a rehearsal, yes, a confidential
- 56:38there they're sitting there on the set of of artists with a
- 56:42little blanket down and they're all eating their delicious
- 56:44produce from fortnum & Mason. Come on, my child lunch time,
- 56:49you have to say that confidential and set of the
- 56:51center, right? Yeah, probably Jackie Hill, used
- 56:53to bring in Eccles cakes and he's bringing a bit of
- 56:56battenberg the doctrine team have landed on a mysterious
- 56:59spaceship. And here's Carolyn Ford to tell
- 57:02us more. Well I get to use my special
- 57:05powers in this episode. Just have to wait and see
- 57:09serious extra things that Susan gets to do this time.
- 57:12It's all very exciting we need Doctor Who confidential for the
- 57:1760s. Yeah, we've got minute or two
- 57:20and a half minutes. Come on, we could do one more
- 57:22question. Oh, Jeff.
- 57:25The wheezing Grandpa's is a lethal Colton.
- 57:30Charlton. Ilithyia could Carlton Michael
- 57:34shade of a 60s. I mean, she's eating your time
- 57:37story and she's her. No, she's not.
- 57:43She's she her in the cave, man. 1.
- 57:48Hey oh you are. Yeah.
- 57:49Right. She's brilliant.
- 57:51I would love to see more stuff. Can I ask you a question?
- 57:54As we out, this is why is he did such a star of to watch who like
- 57:58he I took about Edith a lot because when we're watching it
- 58:00through, she was the first sort of character that was just
- 58:03really nice and helpful and she didn't have any other sort of
- 58:07agenda or anything. She gave the doctor some food
- 58:10and drink, she gave the kids even some sandwiches on the way
- 58:13back from them thing she does. He wraps up for make some
- 58:17venison or something? She's just really helpful.
- 58:19Anybody drops by she's welcoming and helpful.
- 58:22She's a sixth-grade molested It struck me as a character.
- 58:34Okay? Structure as a character, she
- 58:36was a character. Yeah, I know but just as a
- 58:37really good character has a lot of personality
- 58:55Imagine Rapunzel, I suppose, you know, that hurts so it gets more
- 59:00questions in or we've got a minute, kind of a lot.
- 59:02Oh, David G says, what did Steven and sharply, get up to in
- 59:05the back of press and Shop that night, this is a family podcast
- 59:11as if I'm going to suggest they were up to no good.
- 59:15Would you imagine? They're up to in the back of the
- 59:17shop? Well, it depends if you have
- 59:20this whole story of, if dodos is great, great granddaughter or
- 59:24Well, of course it's a fucking. They were lie.
- 59:29Well, I mean in the middle of a massacre.
- 59:33Is the best time. Yeah, maybe that's why I got
- 59:37over. There were like it.
- 59:37Here, people being dismembered outside, let's go.
- 59:47Well, folks, we'll be back for part 2.
- 59:49I've only got 10 seconds left. What can you say about the 60s?
- 59:52I was really excited. Oh, I don't know.
