- 0:07Speaker 1: Will Smith and the Man in Black. Remember that one
- 0:15Speaker 1: that was a good fit that was really big in today,
- 0:17Speaker 1: wasn't it. Yeah, I was really enjoyed that. Okay, time
- 0:21Speaker 1: for some folks on the rugby club news now, well
- 0:24Speaker 1: the first fifteen Last Saturday they lost thirty four fourteen
- 0:28Speaker 1: to the Old al Tamians. This Saturday they are home
- 0:31Speaker 1: to Gillingham and Courian's first fifteen. The Seconds lost twenty
- 0:35Speaker 1: four to six at home to Edinbridge and this Saturday
- 0:38Speaker 1: they are a way to Snowdon who play their games
- 0:40Speaker 1: at the Welfare Ground in Alsham and thirteen. They didn't
- 0:44Speaker 1: have a game last week, but this Saturday they are
- 0:47Speaker 1: away to Gillingham and Coouran's second fifteen and well Downe
- 0:51Speaker 1: to the Ladies team who beat Maidstone fifty three five
- 0:54Speaker 1: last Sunday. And their next game is on Sunday November tenth,
- 0:58Speaker 1: when they welcome the Ladies from Sheppey Rugby Club. Now,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I've got a pretty busy weekend coming up. You know.
- 1:06Speaker 1: We're sort of going away for the weekend. We're going
- 1:09Speaker 1: to spend the day in Tunbridge Wells having a look round,
- 1:13Speaker 1: but in the evening there is a bit of logic
- 1:15Speaker 1: to this because in the evening we've been invited to
- 1:17Speaker 1: former Academy FM and now with Radio Kent radio presenter
- 1:21Speaker 1: Adam Dowling's fortieth birthday. Yes you remember Adam. He was
- 1:25Speaker 1: very vocal back in the day when Academy FM hadn't
- 1:31Speaker 1: long been going and you could always see he was
- 1:34Speaker 1: set out for a good radio career. And so he's
- 1:37Speaker 1: doing really well on the BBC Radio Kent. And it's
- 1:40Speaker 1: not just Radio Kent his show. It goes out over
- 1:42Speaker 1: three counties, so that's quite a little coverage. Well, the
- 1:47Speaker 1: other reason that we're staying over is because I am
- 1:50Speaker 1: the race EMC on the Sunday or don't forget the
- 1:54Speaker 1: clocks go back an hour on Sunday. It's a bit
- 1:56Speaker 1: luck at it, so we get another hour in bed
- 2:00Speaker 1: So I'm of the race EMC at Bedgebury Forest, which
- 2:03Speaker 1: isn't too far up the road from Tunbridge, Wales. So
- 2:05Speaker 1: it's worked out really well for me. And on that
- 2:08Speaker 1: day there's a half marathon and a ten k and
- 2:11Speaker 1: it's only about twenty five minutes up the road from Tunbridge.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Wells Now, early days on when I did my first
- 2:20Speaker 1: bit of local radio, if you like. I applied to
- 2:24Speaker 1: go on hospital radio oh years ago, and that's where
- 2:28Speaker 1: I met Adam and before we got together, and we
- 2:31Speaker 1: used to do a lot together on the Academy Fair anyway,
- 2:35Speaker 1: that was the William Harvey Hospital and we used to
- 2:39Speaker 1: be joined by a gentleman called Paul Hudson. Now Paul
- 2:44Speaker 1: used to have his own little show as well, that
- 2:46Speaker 1: was called Hudson's Choice, and we used to go out
- 2:51Speaker 1: around the wards. It was sometimes it could be a
- 2:53Speaker 1: little bit stressful going around the wards and asking if
- 2:57Speaker 1: people wanted what they wanted to play and then we
- 2:59Speaker 1: would play it in the evening forum. But it was
- 3:03Speaker 1: good fun and it was all for a good cause.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Great things. A lot of big DJs actually have started
- 3:10Speaker 1: on hospital radio. And so anyway, Paul had his own
- 3:14Speaker 1: show and he was a massive Status Quo fan. And
- 3:18Speaker 1: I seem to remember that he went to a status
- 3:22Speaker 1: quote concert at a Vegebury part many many moons ago.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So was you there? I mean, where we do the
- 3:30Speaker 1: run is a great big field. I can only assume
- 3:32Speaker 1: that that is where they did the concert. I just
- 3:35Speaker 1: can't imagine Status Quote Vegebury for us, but there you go.
- 3:39Speaker 1: It was big back in the day. So this one
- 3:41Speaker 1: is for you, Paul, and you're will and enjoy this song.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I know it's your favorite track. Status quote. Here we
- 3:47Speaker 1: go rocking all over the world. That's a chun cool
- 4:09Speaker 1: brieve there. That was a blue contrail featuring a Sean Paul. Okay,
- 4:15Speaker 1: so we've just got a little bit of basketball news here.
- 4:17Speaker 1: The Folks and Saints under sixteen's eighteen beat seven Oaks
- 4:21Speaker 1: by sixty seven points to thirty four. And the under
- 4:25Speaker 1: eighteen boys narrowly beat Kent Panthers by seventy seven points
- 4:30Speaker 1: to seventy two. And if you ever go and watch
- 4:32Speaker 1: a game of basketball, it really go get yourself down
- 4:35Speaker 1: the Three Hills and treat yourself. It really is a
- 4:37Speaker 1: fast moving game. So when you get scored seventy seven
- 4:40Speaker 1: to seventy two, you know it's been a pretty close game.
- 4:44Speaker 1: At the moment, I could only find one fixture. It's
- 4:46Speaker 1: this Saturday at the Three Hills. The under sixteen eighteen
- 4:49Speaker 1: welcome MSc Royals and I do believe they come from Sussex.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And that's for a one o'clock start. Now, hockey is
- 4:58Speaker 1: always lots of news from the folks. Optimus Hockey Club.
- 5:01Speaker 1: They had the full menu out of eight and five,
- 5:05Speaker 1: that's right, thirteen games and this week, well they played thirteen.
- 5:11Speaker 1: They won six, they lost three and they drew four.
- 5:16Speaker 1: But on paper the men's team actually none of the
- 5:19Speaker 1: team's got beaten at all. Mind you, there were four draws,
- 5:23Speaker 1: but there were no defeats, which is excellent news. The
- 5:28Speaker 1: first team they beat Eastbourne five to two, and I
- 5:31Speaker 1: see the name of Tom Bean crops up. Tom is
- 5:35Speaker 1: a former guest of the show, is a gb triathlete,
- 5:38Speaker 1: obviously turning his hand to hockey. He got a hat trick,
- 5:42Speaker 1: so we're down to you, Tom. The other winners were
- 5:45Speaker 1: gillinger Man, Courian's the fourteen they beat Gillingham and Courian's
- 5:49Speaker 1: and another name we know, Harry Rowe. Well we know
- 5:53Speaker 1: his mom actually, so she's been on the show and
- 5:58Speaker 1: so Harry. We're watching Harry's progression, if you like, in
- 6:02Speaker 1: senior hockey, and he's doing really well. I've got a
- 6:04Speaker 1: couple of goals there and well this was a close one.
- 6:07Speaker 1: The men's sixty eleven they beat Blackheath Highwaymen by five
- 6:12Speaker 1: goals to four and the biggest draw of the day
- 6:15Speaker 1: was the men's eighth team they drew three all with
- 6:19Speaker 1: Cliftonville Development. Switching our attention to the Ladies. Well, the
- 6:22Speaker 1: Ladies first team finding it a bit tough actually this
- 6:24Speaker 1: season they lost four to to Guildford's second team and
- 6:30Speaker 1: the Ladies second they beat seven Oaks Acorns by four
- 6:34Speaker 1: four goals to nil. The other two thirds and fourths
- 6:40Speaker 1: lost but the fifteen they beat Case Sports who come
- 6:43Speaker 1: from Rochester. They beat them three to one. Now there
- 6:46Speaker 1: the ops, I think the whole league in fact are
- 6:49Speaker 1: having a week off. They call it a slip week
- 6:51Speaker 1: for some reason. But anyway, so there's no fixtures this week,
- 6:57Speaker 1: so good excuse to get down to the three and
- 7:00Speaker 1: watch a bit of a basketball. Now, there's a bit
- 7:04Speaker 1: exciting news come out of the Folks and Optimists Hockey Club.
- 7:08Speaker 1: They've entered a contract with a firm called Stadia and
- 7:11Speaker 1: they're going to facilitate live streaming of all our league
- 7:15Speaker 1: games on pitch one at the Three Hills and the
- 7:18Speaker 1: commencement for streaming is Sunday, the second of November, so
- 7:20Speaker 1: that would be the first week that they get back.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So what they're doing the filming is from a camera
- 7:26Speaker 1: attached to a central light tower on the western side
- 7:29Speaker 1: of the pitch, which is the dug outside facing east
- 7:32Speaker 1: towards the spectator stand. Now, the equipment uses artificial intelligence
- 7:36Speaker 1: to track the play and send a live feed which
- 7:39Speaker 1: will be broadcast on a TV monitor in the bar.
- 7:42Speaker 1: How good is that? So if it's freezing cold and
- 7:45Speaker 1: pouring a rain, you can stay in the bar and
- 7:48Speaker 1: look at the live game going on in front of
- 7:50Speaker 1: your very eyes instead of going outside. How good is that?
- 7:55Speaker 1: So they hope to include other games such as cup games,
- 7:57Speaker 1: summer mixed hockey and or junior games. So that's really
- 8:02Speaker 1: a forward progress and it's typical of the of the Optimist. Actually,
- 8:08Speaker 1: they are never a team for standing still. They do
- 8:11Speaker 1: like to move on and keep up with things with
- 8:13Speaker 1: the with their coaching, with their social side of things. Uh.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And I was talking to somebody the other day and
- 8:21Speaker 1: they told me they might even have had enough for
- 8:24Speaker 1: six ladies teams this year, but they was just holding
- 8:27Speaker 1: back just a little bit. Okay, time for a bit
- 8:30Speaker 1: of music now and coming up now, we've got a
- 8:32Speaker 1: bit of Robbie Williams and let Love be Your Energy.
- 8:36Speaker 1: The sound of Folkston Radio Folkstone Junior called miss missing
- 8:53Speaker 1: You from Billy Lockett.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Missing you.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Okay. Now, I was on the mic at the five
- 9:03Speaker 1: k Howlits Wild Animal Park, a fun run that takes
- 9:06Speaker 1: the inside the grounds of the park itself. Five hundred
- 9:09Speaker 1: and twenty and this was last Sunday. By the way,
- 9:11Speaker 1: five hundred and twenty eight runners took part, the eldest
- 9:14Speaker 1: being mister Ray Johnson from the Faversham Running Club. Not
- 9:18Speaker 1: the Ray Johnson that we know, but another one. Now
- 9:21Speaker 1: he is actually eighty seven and a half. I was
- 9:24Speaker 1: chatting to him and he hasn't been too well lately,
- 9:27Speaker 1: but he got round okay. Now, this race attracts more,
- 9:31Speaker 1: if you like fun type runners than the affiliated club runners.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It's probably due to the nature of the course. It's
- 9:36Speaker 1: a bit tough to get going. It's two laps with
- 9:38Speaker 1: some very tight turns and some narrow paths. Now a
- 9:42Speaker 1: big crowd of a group of they are all over
- 9:44Speaker 1: the county actually, and they've all got their own little identity.
- 9:47Speaker 1: They're called beginners to runners. They came along from places
- 9:51Speaker 1: such as charring Herne Bay, Harrietsham, Canterbury, Sheppey, Farming, Wall
- 9:57Speaker 1: of Slade, Tendon and of course down the road a hive.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I think I counted fifty two of them actually, Now
- 10:04Speaker 1: spencial a special mention must go to Sue Elkins or
- 10:07Speaker 1: Missus Ferrett as she's known, who successfully completed the course.
- 10:11Speaker 1: She told me she wasn't used to the ups and
- 10:13Speaker 1: downs after doing a very little training on the flat promenades.
- 10:18Speaker 1: She took a very late entry and a bit of
- 10:20Speaker 1: a spur of the moment, was very nervous at the start,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but yeah, she pulled through. I knew she'd do it.
- 10:26Speaker 1: There was an energetic warm up per lady called Jenny,
- 10:29Speaker 1: who've got most of the crowd really rocking. You never
- 10:32Speaker 1: get everybody in. But the chosen charity of the day
- 10:35Speaker 1: was the Aspinall Foundation, which repatriates wild animals back to
- 10:40Speaker 1: their natural habitat. And now I did find out that
- 10:43Speaker 1: this morning actually that two tigers are two lions, sorry,
- 10:49Speaker 1: two lions are very shortly going back to the jungle
- 10:53Speaker 1: or back to the natural habitat be controlled for a
- 10:55Speaker 1: little while. They were hand reared by the Aspinall Foundation.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And it's very sad to see him go, but that's
- 11:02Speaker 1: the idea is and it's just to get him back
- 11:04Speaker 1: into their own surroundings anyway, most of the runners took
- 11:08Speaker 1: advantage of a free entry to go back in and
- 11:10Speaker 1: have a slower look round at the animals. I counted
- 11:14Speaker 1: five runners from Folkston Running and Athletics Club. First home
- 11:18Speaker 1: in accredited fifth place was Emerging Talent a young guy
- 11:22Speaker 1: slingsby in a time of twenty minutes fifteen seconds. Tom
- 11:26Speaker 1: Jordan was next for the club in seventh position in
- 11:29Speaker 1: twenty one oh six. First lady home for the club
- 11:32Speaker 1: was carl Landa twenty four forty eight, Maria Fox Felicetti
- 11:36Speaker 1: thirty two eight, then Sue Elkins thirty nine oh two
- 11:40Speaker 1: and Helen Merrick thirty nine thirty five in her very
- 11:44Speaker 1: first run in Folkston colours. Two brothers from South Kent
- 11:48Speaker 1: Harriers took part. John Clayson finished twenty fourth in twenty
- 11:52Speaker 1: four minutes eighteen beating his elder brother Nick, who finished
- 11:56Speaker 1: twenty eight minutes and eight seconds. Now due to the
- 12:00Speaker 1: everybody was back before the rain started and before the
- 12:03Speaker 1: wind got up. If you remember Sunday, in the middle
- 12:05Speaker 1: of the day, the old wind got up and it
- 12:08Speaker 1: was pretty pretty horrendous, but we were lucky. We got
- 12:12Speaker 1: going and we got out of it. Quick. So I
- 12:15Speaker 1: always have to choose a little song there to get
- 12:17Speaker 1: the runners going while they're waiting to across the start line. Now,
- 12:22Speaker 1: this time around, I chosen animal related song of course,
- 12:26Speaker 1: and well, I just want to thank Rachel and her
- 12:30Speaker 1: nice work team for presenting such a very slick morning.
- 12:34Speaker 1: You know, it just seemed to glide by. So we're
- 12:37Speaker 1: done to Rachel on the team. So this is a
- 12:39Speaker 1: song I played as the runners across that start line
- 12:42Speaker 1: to get your toes tapping on this Thursday lunchtime for
- 12:45Speaker 1: a bit of tiger feats, Alexy Thief and a very
- 13:08Speaker 1: slow ending quite fading away in a tune called years Now.
- 13:16Speaker 1: As I said last week, I was at how It's Zoo.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Well I got told off for calling it a zoo.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Actually it is in fact a wild animal park, so
- 13:27Speaker 1: I'll have my my knuckles rapped because of that. But
- 13:31Speaker 1: I've got a busy spell coming up to a Christmas
- 13:33Speaker 1: if you like. On Sunday, third of November, I am
- 13:37Speaker 1: at Deal there's a five miler Deal Striders there Deal
- 13:41Speaker 1: Try Club. Sorry they used to be called Deal Striders.
- 13:43Speaker 1: That was years ago, but they're now at Deal Try Club. Sunday.
- 13:47Speaker 1: The fourteenth, we've got the Coastbusters. That's the Coastal Striders.
- 13:52Speaker 1: They belong round at Ramsgate. They've got a ten miler
- 13:54Speaker 1: and a ten k and I've got a couple of
- 13:56Speaker 1: Christmas races coming up. Got one at BET's Hanger christ
- 14:00Speaker 1: and I've got one. I don't know if I need
- 14:03Speaker 1: a Passcort. I'm going into Essex, going into South End
- 14:07Speaker 1: December the twenty six we've got the silk Wood Boxing
- 14:10Speaker 1: Day run, always a favorite for local people. And next
- 14:14Speaker 1: week my guess will be Amy Seeger. She's going to
- 14:17Speaker 1: tell us all about her trip to Iceland, believe it
- 14:19Speaker 1: or not. Iceland. Now. I was saddened yesterday to hear
- 14:24Speaker 1: about the passing of a man who was literally a
- 14:27Speaker 1: giant in his chosen sport, shot put. To Jeff Capes,
- 14:32Speaker 1: he will be remembered for twice winning the World's Strongest
- 14:36Speaker 1: Man and for his prowess in a shot put when
- 14:40Speaker 1: he was twice the Commonweld champion and twice European Indoor Champion,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and it's such a shame that he's passed away. He
- 14:48Speaker 1: was a very popular character in the eighties and his
- 14:51Speaker 1: face always seemed to appear somewhere on TV, whether it
- 14:54Speaker 1: was a chat show. He was in pantomimes, he was
- 14:58Speaker 1: in Superstars, remember that, Souper Stars, and then he was
- 15:02Speaker 1: doing commercials as well. He was everywhere. He was also
- 15:06Speaker 1: six times Highland Games winner, and believe it or not,
- 15:09Speaker 1: he was a world champion in breeding budgies. Now, I
- 15:13Speaker 1: was doing a bit of research today and I found out,
- 15:16Speaker 1: here's something you enjoyed after the aggression and energy he
- 15:20Speaker 1: burnt up in competition, that he had a big, big
- 15:22Speaker 1: walk in averary. Now, the eighties produced so many sports
- 15:26Speaker 1: in legends, and Jeff Capes was one of mine, and
- 15:29Speaker 1: he's certainly up there amongst them now. So I had
- 15:32Speaker 1: to look for a suitable song to finish the show
- 15:35Speaker 1: and play tribute to a hero of mine, Jeff Capes.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And so I've chosen this one, labby Siffree. Something inside
- 15:43Speaker 1: so strong, and I see you, Saddy m.
- 16:07Speaker 2: The higher you build your barriers, the taller rbit come,
- 16:18Speaker 2: the fner you take my rights away, the faster I
- 16:26Speaker 2: will run. You can deny me, You can decide to
- 16:36Speaker 2: turn your face away. Nor mathter causes something inside wrong
- 16:50Speaker 2: and where that I can make it. So you're doing
- 16:54Speaker 2: me Wrong, song
