- 1:52Speaker 2: It's Rob Real Hey doing man, Good morning, Not enough
- 1:54Speaker 2: Struther Martin in my life by the way, yes, wave
- 1:58Speaker 2: got here? Is it to communicate? You're gonna get your
- 2:02Speaker 2: mind right, get I get people extra points, you know,
- 2:06Speaker 2: because I've used that same intro for five years since
- 2:09Speaker 2: I started doing the show'll be six years come May.
- 2:12Speaker 2: And if people can get all of the references Struther
- 2:15Speaker 2: Martin and and of course they righty rowdy roddy Piper
- 2:18Speaker 2: and and the and that's they live right okay, and
- 2:22Speaker 2: towards the end the Rick Flair woo. Yeah. Well, I
- 2:25Speaker 2: would think that's the easy speaking of obscure references. I'm
- 2:28Speaker 2: looking across the glass. Uh, this will be completely lost
- 2:32Speaker 2: on him. Uh. We need to come up with the
- 2:34Speaker 2: karaoke version of me and missus Jones. That needs to
- 2:37Speaker 2: be Danny Jones. Okay, all right, Dave and Danny Jones.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Danny Jones, Dandy Jones.
- 2:44Speaker 1: They got a thing go.
- 2:47Speaker 2: You didn't know. You didn't know that you were going
- 2:48Speaker 2: to get a free concert. You know on the show
- 2:50Speaker 2: that I would sing more, but then we'd have to
- 2:53Speaker 2: write a check to Ascal. Yeah, or you know, and
- 2:55Speaker 2: you can actually sing unlike unlike certain people in this room.
- 3:00Speaker 2: As my father used to say, who used to book
- 3:03Speaker 2: gospel groups for his church. That boy sings in the
- 3:06Speaker 2: key of L and then he say, well that sounds
- 3:08Speaker 2: like al before we get into the sock drops happening
- 3:13Speaker 2: this Thursday. That's why you're here on our parking eleven
- 3:16Speaker 2: eleven for Ginger, Das and Charleston have to ask you you,
- 3:18Speaker 2: being a native Indianaian, don't you call yourself INDIANAPA. No,
- 3:22Speaker 2: they are by law, actually they are Hoosiers Hoosiers, Okay,
- 3:26Speaker 2: all right, Hey you feel about this National Championship game
- 3:29Speaker 2: tonight between Indiana Miami. It is more than a dy
- 3:32Speaker 2: ne nym in my family. First wife and my niece
- 3:36Speaker 2: are both alumnae of Indiana University. So I like little
- 3:40Speaker 2: skin in the game. I may or may not have
- 3:42Speaker 2: written a check or two to the Indiana University system.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It's gonna be a whole lot of fun. I don't
- 3:49Speaker 2: expect there to be a lot of I don't expect
- 3:51Speaker 2: there to be a lot.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Of defense to be played.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Okay, in this particular game, I would bet the over,
- 3:58Speaker 2: but I kind of like the Hoosiers to cover. You know.
- 4:00Speaker 2: The interesting thing about about Indiana is and everybody you know,
- 4:05Speaker 2: or the suit schools, the thought in Indiana there's those
- 4:08Speaker 2: that say, wow, what a great story. Because they've lost
- 4:10Speaker 2: more games I think in Division one or something like that.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Even if they win tonight, they're still the losingest program.
- 4:15Speaker 2: In division in history. And then but then are those
- 4:17Speaker 2: who said, well, they bought and paid for this team
- 4:20Speaker 2: a couple of well, welcome to college athletics. Okay, that's
- 4:23Speaker 2: how it works. Okay, google Eric Dickerson and transam and
- 4:28Speaker 2: see where that takes you. This is not new, you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: it's not new. It's just and now. I mean, you
- 4:32Speaker 2: got players that are making like five they're making more
- 4:35Speaker 2: money in college than what rookie way more than what
- 4:39Speaker 2: rookie contracts are in the NFL at this point. And
- 4:42Speaker 2: you know, you can't put the ketchup back in the bottle,
- 4:45Speaker 2: as they say, so, what are you gonna The numbers
- 4:47Speaker 2: may be they the numbers are a bit bloated at
- 4:51Speaker 2: this point. I think that'll come back to earth at
- 4:53Speaker 2: some point. But I'm always going to be the guy
- 4:55Speaker 2: who's in favor of workers having control of where they
- 4:59Speaker 2: go and how much they make. And finally college athletes
- 5:01Speaker 2: have that. I still remember, and I brought this up
- 5:04Speaker 2: on the show before watching one of the thirty for
- 5:06Speaker 2: thirties on the Fab five out of Michigan and Chris
- 5:11Speaker 2: Webber talking about and nobody's ever going to believe that
- 5:14Speaker 2: a player like Chris Webber wasn't taking care of even
- 5:16Speaker 2: back in the nineties in some way. But he talked
- 5:20Speaker 2: about going in to a McDonald's and he was trying
- 5:23Speaker 2: to scrape together enough money for a happy meal while
- 5:27Speaker 2: his jersey was being sold at the Michigan bookstore for
- 5:31Speaker 2: like one hundred and fifty bucks and it didn't have
- 5:34Speaker 2: his name on it at that time, but it was
- 5:36Speaker 2: number four, which everybody knew if you're a fan of
- 5:39Speaker 2: Michigan at that time, that was his number. So I mean,
- 5:42Speaker 2: there's something wrong there. His teammate Jalen Rose put it
- 5:45Speaker 2: pretty well. He said, in those days, big things were
- 5:48Speaker 2: taking care of like house for mama and car for you,
- 5:51Speaker 2: but like the walking around money wasn't happening. And that's
- 5:55Speaker 2: actually one of the big problems for college athletes, speaking
- 5:57Speaker 2: of walking around. What a segment reason we have you
- 6:00Speaker 2: here to today's to talk by the way I would do,
- 6:02Speaker 2: I want to mention you can catch the game tonight.
- 6:04Speaker 2: We have the coveraging game on a WHS network. Let's
- 6:07Speaker 2: get to the sock drop, all right? How many years
- 6:10Speaker 2: with this is our third annual third I think when
- 6:12Speaker 2: you hit three year allowed to call it a tradition. Okay,
- 6:14Speaker 2: it's a tradition. So third annual sock drop. How does
- 6:17Speaker 2: it work? So our drop events are very simple. You
- 6:21Speaker 2: bring us the thing we're asking for. You loop through
- 6:23Speaker 2: our parking lot, you hand it to us and the
- 6:25Speaker 2: folks from Union Mission, Jason, Bryan, Mighty Joe, whoever might
- 6:29Speaker 2: be here at the time, and then you go on
- 6:31Speaker 2: your way. You don't have to get out of your nice, warm,
- 6:32Speaker 2: comfortable vehicle. And with the way the wind is cutting
- 6:35Speaker 2: through today, that is definitely definitely a plus seven in
- 6:39Speaker 2: the morning till six in the east Thursday. This Thursday,
- 6:42Speaker 2: you stop buying. You bring us brand new socks or
- 6:45Speaker 2: a cash or check donation for Union Mission. The bulk
- 6:48Speaker 2: buying power they have is substantial. But if you're one
- 6:51Speaker 2: of those folks that you need to hand something over,
- 6:54Speaker 2: that's just how your brain works. Ain't no shame in it.
- 6:57Speaker 2: New socks, whether it's a pair or a package, or
- 7:00Speaker 2: or a bag or a box. Uh you know, whether
- 7:02Speaker 2: it's hand it to us through the window, or hey,
- 7:04Speaker 2: I got a bunch in to back up pop a
- 7:05Speaker 2: hatch for you. Uh we will, we will do all
- 7:08Speaker 2: the heavy lifting. Such as it is. Socks, aren't that heavy,
- 7:11Speaker 2: but and then you just roll on your way. Yeah
- 7:13Speaker 2: and again. Uh, we asked that they be new socks.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Obviously we appreciate everything we can get, but this is
- 7:21Speaker 2: not an opportunity for you to clean out your sock drawer.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I mean, we do want new socks. Even if it's
- 7:25Speaker 2: just one pair, that's fine. Then that's fine. One pair,
- 7:28Speaker 2: multiple pairs, boxes of pairs, we don't care. And it's
- 7:31Speaker 2: actually a health department thing since we are a third
- 7:34Speaker 2: party running one of these that they've they've got to
- 7:37Speaker 2: be new if we were if we were doing bras
- 7:39Speaker 2: and bridges, it'd be the same way. So they do
- 7:42Speaker 2: have to be brand new in package or you know,
- 7:44Speaker 2: still tagged and wrapped up. His bras and bridges sound
- 7:47Speaker 2: like something Mountain would do, let's say it, said Steve Animal.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I was thinking it was one of one of Woody's
- 7:52Speaker 2: parties over at the Red Card possibly possibly possibly.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Friday night bra.
- 8:00Speaker 2: That's it's a very good way to look, by the way,
- 8:03Speaker 2: too bad. He's not awake to hear it. And so,
- 8:06Speaker 2: and I know I'm not normally somebody that that says
- 8:10Speaker 2: go out and support change, okay change soorce. However, with
- 8:14Speaker 2: something like this your your deal. Your better deals are
- 8:17Speaker 2: going to be found at your at, your Allie's, your daughter, general,
- 8:21Speaker 2: your beg lots. They know me at at, they know
- 8:24Speaker 2: me at Marshalls and TJ max in South Charleston real
- 8:28Speaker 2: well these days, because just about it. Any time I'm
- 8:30Speaker 2: shopping for anything else, oh hey, those are on clearance,
- 8:34Speaker 2: I'll grab those. And so there's a there are already
- 8:36Speaker 2: a pretty good stockpile at the real estate that's going
- 8:39Speaker 2: to get as started on Thursday morning indeed, and again
- 8:41Speaker 2: seven am until six pm. It's on our parking. The
- 8:43Speaker 2: weather's actually looking up. Everybody's looking to this weekend when
- 8:47Speaker 2: we're supposed to have this big snowstorm. And by the way,
- 8:49Speaker 2: it's still too early to tell. And that's meteorologists will
- 8:52Speaker 2: tell you that, you know, don't worry about this weekend.
- 8:55Speaker 2: But I can tell you that unless something majorly changes,
- 8:59Speaker 2: this Thursday is actually looking pretty good. Gonna get a
- 9:02Speaker 2: little cloud cover, and again it could change a lot,
- 9:04Speaker 2: but little cloud cover. It looks like right now, probably
- 9:06Speaker 2: in the low to mid forties, not horrible for January.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And so when you go out today and you feel
- 9:12Speaker 2: that wind cut through you, maybe you forgot your gloves
- 9:15Speaker 2: or your hat, and you're feeling how cold it is
- 9:18Speaker 2: to you just maybe going from the car into work,
- 9:22Speaker 2: or from the car into see a client or out
- 9:24Speaker 2: to lunch. Now, think about folks who don't have a
- 9:28Speaker 2: whole lot, who desperately need a new pair of dry,
- 9:32Speaker 2: clean socks, and they are dealing with that every single day. Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 2: increasing clouds in forty seven on Wednesday and Thursday sounds great,
- 9:41Speaker 2: but it's gonna get down to like twelve tonight. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 2: and that's mighty cold. That wind coming in off the river.
- 9:48Speaker 2: It'll chill you to the bone. And if you don't
- 9:50Speaker 2: have someplace necessarily warm to go to, that can hit
- 9:54Speaker 2: you twice as hard. So those are the folks we
- 9:56Speaker 2: are trying to help on Thursday, talking about our sock drop,
- 9:59Speaker 2: which is going to be the Thursday seven al six
- 10:01Speaker 2: pm on our parking lot. Here a to eleven eleven
- 10:03Speaker 2: for Ginas Treats Charleston Dave Island Show in five eighty

- 10:15Speaker 2: Com and socks rob are the single most requested items
- 10:18Speaker 2: everywhere you go, regardless of the shelter or service provider.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Any time of year, socks are the most requested, much
- 10:26Speaker 2: more this time of year, when it's cold and wet
- 10:29Speaker 2: and windy, and the beauty is you don't have to
- 10:31Speaker 2: worry about size, you don't have to worry about color.
- 10:34Speaker 2: It's it's easy to just grab a pair or a
- 10:38Speaker 2: package off the rack wherever you're shopping. Maybe you're preparing
- 10:42Speaker 2: for that snow that may or may not come this weekend.
- 10:44Speaker 2: You're gonna go get your French toast kit as I
- 10:46Speaker 2: like to call it, the bread, the eggs, and the milk,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and you know, swing through if it's you know, you're
- 10:51Speaker 2: going to the Gucci this or the Bougie that, and
- 10:54Speaker 2: you grab some socks and come see us on Thursday
- 10:56Speaker 2: and again, this is one of those events that we do.
- 10:58Speaker 2: We do a couple of these type of things, but
- 11:00Speaker 2: you're going to see all of us out there. This
- 11:01Speaker 2: is kind of kind of your baby, but you know,
- 11:05Speaker 2: we're all going to be out there, all of our
- 11:06Speaker 2: station V one hundred the Mountain kz CCHS. The beat
- 11:10Speaker 2: will all be out there on the parking lot there's
- 11:12Speaker 2: at any given time, and we bring in the sales weasels,
- 11:15Speaker 2: and we bring in the office staff and so on,
- 11:17Speaker 2: so there'll be three, four or five people out there
- 11:19Speaker 2: at the time. And again you can pull into our
- 11:21Speaker 2: parking lot and just make that loop. It's an ellipse.
- 11:24Speaker 2: The ellipse. I knew he was gonna I knew he
- 11:25Speaker 2: was gonna hit me with that, the ellipse in our
- 11:28Speaker 2: parking lot. Here the recovering missus Real is a math
- 11:31Speaker 2: teacher and she would never ever ever let me get
- 11:33Speaker 2: away with calling that a circle. It is an ellipse.
- 11:35Speaker 2: And I do want to get a little plug in
- 11:37Speaker 2: for an event that we are doing Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I know you'll be there. I'll be there, of course,
- 11:42Speaker 2: you know, Chris Lawns will be there. It's the annual
- 11:44Speaker 2: hunting Fishing show to Conde's Seaman Convention. Sara looking forward
- 11:47Speaker 2: to him.
- 11:47Speaker 4: He he's the Elvis of the outdoors, going to be
- 11:49Speaker 4: doing West Virginia Outdoor Live on Saturday.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Just I feel as though you could say anything Foghorn
- 11:56Speaker 2: Leghorn or or Waylon Jennings as the ballad from the
- 12:00Speaker 2: Duke's a Hazard and the Chris Lawrence voice. Yeah, the
- 12:02Speaker 2: Duke boys better grow some wings or start flapping their arms. Yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 2: that's indeed. Indeed, you know he's bigger than you, right,
- 12:09Speaker 2: take you out? He can't, Yes, he can. He's all
- 12:12Speaker 2: rebuilt too over the last year that he's got new parts.
- 12:15Speaker 2: So the six million dollar man, six million dollar news
- 12:18Speaker 2: man his Chris Lauren. All right, So again I will

- 16:58Speaker 2: for the House in District twenty one Seed Call. Good morning, sir,
- 17:01Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
- 17:02Speaker 10: Good morning, thanks for having me, Thank.
- 17:04Speaker 2: You for being here. Tell us about city callwell, give
- 17:06Speaker 2: us your bio.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Well, I'm originally from Hurricane. I've lived in the twenty
- 17:10Speaker 3: first district for most of all my life. I've been
- 17:14Speaker 3: working in public education now for almost thirty years. Currently,
- 17:17Speaker 3: i'm the director of Career and Technical Education for Putnam County,
- 17:19Speaker 3: the principal of puttam Career and Technical Center.
- 17:21Speaker 2: All right, of course you have a day off today
- 17:25Speaker 2: for the holiday, so why run for house.
- 17:29Speaker 10: I've been.
- 17:31Speaker 3: At the Technical Center now for almost eight nine years.
- 17:34Speaker 3: When I first got there a lot of students. I
- 17:37Speaker 3: was watching a lot of students move out. If they
- 17:39Speaker 3: wanted to find work, they'd have to relocate for work.
- 17:43Speaker 3: The more I look at it, the more I realize,
- 17:47Speaker 3: especially here lately, is when businesses are moving in, they're
- 17:50Speaker 3: coming to us to see what we're doing. They're coming
- 17:53Speaker 3: to us to see what their future employees may be.
- 17:56Speaker 3: And the Republican Party of the City of west Ridge
- 18:00Speaker 3: has helped move the needle on economic development in West Virginia,
- 18:05Speaker 3: especially in our area. Over the last ten years, it's
- 18:08Speaker 3: been a measurable what's what's occurred. I want to be
- 18:11Speaker 3: part of that movement.
- 18:13Speaker 6: You know.
- 18:14Speaker 2: And that's an initioning point that you bring up because
- 18:16Speaker 2: you are in a unique position to see that as
- 18:18Speaker 2: an educator, because that's a problem that we have is
- 18:23Speaker 2: retaining these people because what one of two things happens.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Either they leave, they leave go go to college, they
- 18:31Speaker 2: go away to a technical school somewhere far away, they
- 18:33Speaker 2: go away to the military or whatever the case may be,
- 18:36Speaker 2: or they're educated here and then they take jobs in
- 18:38Speaker 2: other places.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I have kids. A lot of we
- 18:43Speaker 3: have kids. A lot of us have kids in our area.
- 18:46Speaker 3: We want kids to stay home. The main way to
- 18:48Speaker 3: keep our kids home is to have good, high paying
- 18:51Speaker 3: jobs for our for our kids. That's the main goal
- 18:57Speaker 3: I have right now is bringing businesses in showing what
- 19:00Speaker 3: we have shown them the future of what their workforce
- 19:03Speaker 3: is going to look like. By being able to do this,
- 19:07Speaker 3: keeping our kids at home makes it makes a better
- 19:09Speaker 3: community for all of us. Is known we have places
- 19:12Speaker 3: for our kids to be. I've watched so many students.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I've watched so many people I went to high school with.
- 19:19Speaker 3: I've seen so many just good people, good smart people,
- 19:24Speaker 3: workers move out of the area because they didn't feel
- 19:27Speaker 3: like there was any hope here. And I'm telling you
- 19:30Speaker 3: there's a lot of hope in our area now and
- 19:32Speaker 3: there's a lot of things going on, and we need
- 19:36Speaker 3: to get behind this movement and keep our kids at home.
- 19:40Speaker 2: District twenty one. Describe the district to us.
- 19:43Speaker 3: The district is pretty much the town of Hurricane down
- 19:47Speaker 3: towards the Lincoln County line. It's you got Buff Creek,
- 19:52Speaker 3: Writer's Creek, all the creeks down through there, Sycamore. You know,
- 19:58Speaker 3: I grew up in Buff Creek, live there most of
- 20:01Speaker 3: my life. Live in the valley now, so I'm aware
- 20:04Speaker 3: of a lot of the issues there. I know a
- 20:06Speaker 3: lot of the people. I'm running for this and this
- 20:09Speaker 3: may be good or bad because I know so many
- 20:11Speaker 3: people in the area, and I know so many of
- 20:13Speaker 3: the people, and if they think I'm doing something bad,
- 20:15Speaker 3: they will call and tell me.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Everybody knows you over there. Yeah, and so so I
- 20:19Speaker 2: think it's kind of interesting to somebody. And again we're
- 20:21Speaker 2: talking with CD Collwell, who's the Republican candidate for House
- 20:23Speaker 2: of Delegates in District twenty one. I think it's interesting
- 20:26Speaker 2: because you've seen the evolution of the area. I don't
- 20:28Speaker 2: know exactly how old you are, but I will say
- 20:30Speaker 2: you're old enough to probably remember when when that area
- 20:33Speaker 2: wasn't like it is now, when it was mainly farmland
- 20:35Speaker 2: and things of that nature. I mean, again, I don't
- 20:37Speaker 2: want to age you, but fifty one years old, you're
- 20:41Speaker 2: younger than I am.
- 20:42Speaker 10: So there's that you know, I've had When I was born,
- 20:45Speaker 10: I had a bunch of grandparents living.
- 20:47Speaker 3: My great grandfather I actually tore down a chicken house
- 20:51Speaker 3: in Tay's Valley and built one of the first subdivisions
- 20:53Speaker 3: the old u Estates. What was the name of it again,
- 20:56Speaker 3: no estate right there by Hurricane Trophy.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:59Speaker 3: He sold the by half of its property so they
- 21:01Speaker 3: could build the interstate, and they blasted that out for
- 21:04Speaker 3: road base.
- 21:05Speaker 10: I remember Taese Valley Road if you remember when it
- 21:07Speaker 10: was a two lane road. It's bad now.
- 21:09Speaker 3: And that's one of the things you know. I want
- 21:11Speaker 3: to work on is try to work on infrastructure. We
- 21:14Speaker 3: need someone cheerleading because that's the biggest complain to people
- 21:16Speaker 3: in our area right now, it's the biggest complaint infrastructure,
- 21:20Speaker 3: the roads. How long it takes to get from Tays
- 21:24Speaker 3: Valley to Hurricane. You know, that is an issue and
- 21:27Speaker 3: hopefully there's some solutions to that. But yeah, I've definitely
- 21:30Speaker 3: watched the evolution of Hurricane. I've watched the subdivisions be
- 21:33Speaker 3: built up. I've watched, you know, the schools, the population
- 21:38Speaker 3: of the school serge. Now we're watching them decline. But
- 21:43Speaker 3: it's it's an exciting time to be there. And we've
- 21:46Speaker 3: got more houses coming in. We've got more people wanting
- 21:49Speaker 3: to move to our community. What greater testament than the
- 21:52Speaker 3: people of the twenty first district is knowing people want
- 21:55Speaker 3: to make an investment in your community and move there.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Now there are growing pays going to be associated with it,
- 22:02Speaker 3: but we need someone that's a cheerleader for that twenty
- 22:04Speaker 3: first district and trying to move things forward.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Parting to CD Callwell again as a Republican candidate for
- 22:11Speaker 2: House of Delegates District twenty one, but Dave Island Show

- 22:30Speaker 2: there's a change needed.
- 22:34Speaker 10: I'm just I felt like it was my time in life.
- 22:36Speaker 3: I've been working with Penton County Development Authority for the
- 22:39Speaker 3: last several years, been in the school system forever. It's exciting.
- 22:44Speaker 3: I work with major corporations getting students placed some work.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I work with small mom and pops getting students into work.
- 22:53Speaker 10: I talk to them.
- 22:53Speaker 3: I hear a lot of what the concerns they have,
- 22:56Speaker 3: a lot of the issues they have. So not only
- 22:59Speaker 3: am I dealing with students, but I'm also dealing with
- 23:01Speaker 3: a lot of businesses in the area I deal with you.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I hear a lot of their complaints about the workers
- 23:08Speaker 3: are getting I have a unique perspective that a lot
- 23:12Speaker 3: of people don't, being from that area and always being
- 23:16Speaker 3: from that area.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And being in the field of education, yes as well.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I don't know if there's anything necessarily that you can
- 23:23Speaker 2: do about this, but I would like to kind of
- 23:25Speaker 2: get your take on this because of your quote unquote
- 23:27Speaker 2: daytime job, so to speak. We're losing people in our
- 23:31Speaker 2: public schools in West Virginia. I mean parents are just
- 23:34Speaker 2: choosing other alternatives, whether it's homeschooling or private schooling or
- 23:39Speaker 2: whatever the case may be. Is that something concerns you.
- 23:45Speaker 3: When I talked to my staff several years ago when
- 23:47Speaker 3: this started happening, I told them that.
- 23:50Speaker 10: We're gon't lose teachers. Our product has.
- 23:53Speaker 3: To be better than anything that anyone can get. The
- 23:57Speaker 3: product we put out of the school I work at
- 23:59Speaker 3: right now has to be a great product. Twenty nineteen
- 24:03Speaker 3: twenty twenty, we had about three hundred and thirty students there.
- 24:07Speaker 3: This year, I think right now we have about five
- 24:09Speaker 3: hundred and fifty seven students and we have one less
- 24:12Speaker 3: program than we had in nineteen twenty.
- 24:15Speaker 10: The instructors at that school were.
- 24:16Speaker 2: May twenty excuse me, twenty twenty.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Yeah, in nineteen twenty, nineteen twenty twenty, we have three thirty.
- 24:23Speaker 3: This year we have about five fifty seven, five seventy seven,
- 24:26Speaker 3: okay somewhere in there. So the product those instructors put
- 24:30Speaker 3: out is bar none. I mean, education is a commodity,
- 24:34Speaker 3: and people want to go where they feel like the
- 24:37Speaker 3: product's the best.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Right well, and I think it's interesting that when we
- 24:41Speaker 2: talk about the public school population loss in an area
- 24:45Speaker 2: like Putnam County, that's one of the few areas of
- 24:47Speaker 2: the state that's growing. I mean, and I talk about
- 24:49Speaker 2: it all the time. You got like the Eastern Panhandle
- 24:51Speaker 2: and the Morgantown area, but Putnam County is an area
- 24:54Speaker 2: that's growing, but yet we got fewer students. And again,
- 24:56Speaker 2: parents just have simply you see it, your longtime educator,
- 24:59Speaker 2: they just more choices now.
- 25:01Speaker 3: And like I said, where I work right now, the
- 25:03Speaker 3: product we put forward. We have private school students, we
- 25:07Speaker 3: have homeschool students. Every year, our school's open to all,
- 25:10Speaker 3: and we do we do take in homeschool students, We
- 25:13Speaker 3: take in private school students. Some students their first tastes
- 25:16Speaker 3: of public educations coming to our school.
- 25:18Speaker 10: And it's great.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Again, we're talking with cd collwellhos a candidate for House
- 25:22Speaker 2: of Delegates. You know, the and the Democrats went through
- 25:25Speaker 2: this for years because there were so many different you know,
- 25:27Speaker 2: when the Democrats ruled the state of West Virginia, you
- 25:29Speaker 2: had different you had pro business, you had you know,
- 25:32Speaker 2: more more liberals. You had, you know a little bit,
- 25:34Speaker 2: and now the Republican Party has kind of seen that.
- 25:36Speaker 2: It's you know, you have the far right and you
- 25:38Speaker 2: have more moderate and you have those that are primarily
- 25:41Speaker 2: all about the business issues they call it the Chamber
- 25:44Speaker 2: of Commerce issue. Then you have those that are more
- 25:46Speaker 2: about the social issues. If you had to describe what
- 25:48Speaker 2: type of Republican that you are, maybe that's an unfair question,
- 25:52Speaker 2: but what what would it? Where do you lean more?
- 25:56Speaker 10: Well, I'm definitely conservative.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I'm definitely pro business because without the business support in
- 26:02Speaker 3: our area, what's the future for our area. A lot
- 26:05Speaker 3: of people do complain about overcrowding, too many people live here.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Things of that nature travel around West Virginia. Do you
- 26:12Speaker 3: know how many areas in West Virginia would kill to
- 26:14Speaker 3: have what we have.
- 26:15Speaker 2: That's my exact line. You know, that's trademark. By the way,
- 26:19Speaker 2: I'm kidding, kidding, go down to McDowell County and complain.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I don't mean that as a disparaging comment about to
- 26:24Speaker 2: being with McDowell County. I'm just saying, go down there
- 26:26Speaker 2: and complain about a traffic problem.
- 26:28Speaker 3: No, we were a group of us went down to
- 26:30Speaker 3: mcdall County last year in February and worked on some
- 26:33Speaker 3: of the houses that ever been hit by the floods,
- 26:35Speaker 3: and we the issues we have in Putnam County in
- 26:40Speaker 3: our area are insignificant compared to a lot of other areas.
- 26:44Speaker 3: How are we going to move our area forward? Though,
- 26:46Speaker 3: that's the big question. And who's gonna be out there
- 26:49Speaker 3: helping to lead that charge? Who loves where they live,
- 26:54Speaker 3: you know, knows a lot of the people in the area.
- 26:56Speaker 3: And I know I'm accountable to those people. I mean,
- 26:59Speaker 3: bottom line, if I'm going to be a politician, I'm
- 27:01Speaker 3: accountable to the people I work for.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Do you have a social media site or Facebook? Or
- 27:05Speaker 2: and if I do.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Facebook, find me at CD Caldwell. I'm there on Facebook.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Have a website called well the Number four, the twenty
- 27:15Speaker 3: first dot com.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I'll work for the twenty first dot com. Give you
- 27:19Speaker 2: the final thirty. As we always say when we have
- 27:21Speaker 2: a candidate on WAT, should somebody vote for CD Caldwell
- 27:23Speaker 2: for House of Delegates District twenty one.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Well, I'm passionate about our kids, no matter where they're from,
- 27:31Speaker 3: making sure there's good jobs in our area for them
- 27:33Speaker 3: to aspire to when they're ready for those jobs.
- 27:39Speaker 10: I want to see the.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Business end of our area done responsibly and grow and
- 27:46Speaker 3: provide more jobs in our area. And with that comes
- 27:49Speaker 3: and grow and pains of our infrastructure issues that we face.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Number one complaint most people in our district is infrastructure
- 27:55Speaker 3: and what we need to do to fix that. Hopefully
- 27:58Speaker 3: we can get that closing interchanged done sooner rather than later.
- 28:01Speaker 3: That's going to open up a lot of that lower
- 28:04Speaker 3: end to Hurricane. It's it's a mess right now in
- 28:07Speaker 3: the mornings. Everyone knows it. We've got to get that
- 28:10Speaker 3: exit open sooner rather than later. There's all kinds of
- 28:14Speaker 3: traffic engineers at the State Department of Highways and we're
- 28:17Speaker 3: will need their help in the future. We will need
- 28:19Speaker 3: to help getting Hurricane where it needs to be to
- 28:23Speaker 3: make sure people want to live there and want to
- 28:26Speaker 3: stay there.
- 28:27Speaker 2: City Calwell again, Republican candidate for the House of Delegates
- 28:30Speaker 2: District twenty one. Appreciate you being here, Good luck to

- 32:19Speaker 2: County and Governor's officer just out without about ten minutes
- 32:23Speaker 2: or so ago. We'll have more on that coming up
- 32:24Speaker 2: later today. Two thousand construction jobs, Yeah, takes a lot
- 32:28Speaker 2: to build it.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Actually, I understand that the announcement, this announcement from the
- 32:36Speaker 2: company was actually announced in twenty twenty two, but I
- 32:40Speaker 2: guess the governor is out with the statement about it today,
- 32:42Speaker 2: so it actually TJ tells me that the frontierrace announced
- 32:46Speaker 2: and I actually remember it now, but It's kind of
- 32:48Speaker 2: jogged my revery a little bit. They announced the investment
- 32:50Speaker 2: back in twenty twenty two, but regardless, two thousand construction
- 32:53Speaker 2: jobs and two hundred full time jobs when operational, that's
- 32:56Speaker 2: good stuff right there. Tex says, Happy birthday, Robert E.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Lee January nineteenth, eighteen o seven. Texts says, does anyone
- 33:06Speaker 2: else not really care who wins tonight? But are just
- 33:08Speaker 2: happy the fact that, for the first time in a
- 33:10Speaker 2: long time, not going to be Ohio State, Michigan, or
- 33:13Speaker 2: Alabama or Georgia reference to the NCAA tournament or not tournament,
- 33:18Speaker 2: I should say championship game. Tex says Dave. I know
- 33:20Speaker 2: I passed this before, but I have to ask again.
- 33:22Speaker 2: With the deadly cold tonight and tomorrow, can I ask
- 33:25Speaker 2: everyone to please help stray abandon an orphan cats and
- 33:27Speaker 2: dogs to trying to survive out on the streets. Texts says, Dave.
- 33:33Speaker 2: I am riddled with anticipation for the markets to open tomorrow.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Tex says, Dave, I think you need to dedicate an
- 33:39Speaker 2: entire show to the devastating impact that scoundrel Dick Durbin
- 33:42Speaker 2: is having on our nation's beloved electronic payments. Cold istion.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Oh the humanity in parentheses. It's sarcasm. One of the
- 33:50Speaker 2: most ridiculous political ads I've ever heard, but it keeps
- 33:53Speaker 2: your golden vocals on the air. Coming up later today

- 34:26Speaker 2: Jones is here.
- 34:28Speaker 12: How you doing?
- 34:29Speaker 10: How you doing?
- 34:29Speaker 4: Man?
- 34:29Speaker 2: How you doing? All right? Let's talk books. Where are
- 34:33Speaker 2: we in the books? Oh?
- 34:35Speaker 12: How darn any I mean darn any books.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Left?
- 34:42Speaker 12: We are changing publishers, okay, we are getting away from
- 34:48Speaker 12: the one we were on and we're we're gonna do
- 34:51Speaker 12: it locally here.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Okay, all right, well that's good anything you can do
- 34:54Speaker 2: locally on one hundred.
- 34:55Speaker 12: Percent for it, right, Yeah, Paul metdow Will not.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Didn't do very well, Okay, so we'll leave it at that.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Get at a post Danny on social media and it
- 35:07Speaker 2: got quite a bit of attention. It's just about anything
- 35:10Speaker 2: you do gets goods quite a bit of attention. And
- 35:13Speaker 2: it had to do with a raid on a local restaurant,
- 35:17Speaker 2: as it pertains to ICE. You want to talk about
- 35:19Speaker 2: the post and why you did what you did.
- 35:21Speaker 12: Yeah, first thing that used to be my restaurant, the
- 35:28Speaker 12: physical building itself.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and.
- 35:31Speaker 12: It's the real Grand restaurant. And last night, yesterday afternoon,
- 35:40Speaker 12: a group of ICE agents went in there and dressed
- 35:48Speaker 12: in civilian clothes and they ate and they cased the place,
- 35:55Speaker 12: and then they went over to Kroger's and then they
- 35:58Speaker 12: put on their costumes and then they came back over
- 36:04Speaker 12: there and raided the place.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Okay, And you said what on the social media, because
- 36:08Speaker 2: you've since deleted it? Right then you tell me you
- 36:10Speaker 2: took it down.
- 36:10Speaker 12: You know, I don't quite remember what I did, but
- 36:15Speaker 12: it was negative. I mean towards towards ICE. And look,
- 36:22Speaker 12: I don't know what's going on in Minnesota. I don't
- 36:25Speaker 12: know why they're doing what they're doing. Maybe they're just
- 36:29Speaker 12: I saw a video of one lady and she was
- 36:33Speaker 12: Mexican and she they went into her yard and they
- 36:41Speaker 12: profiled her after for ID and she wouldn't give them
- 36:45Speaker 12: a DA. And there's some case law on that which
- 36:48Speaker 12: I find interesting. But then they arrested her and took
- 36:53Speaker 12: her away.
- 36:54Speaker 2: So what Okay, let's get back to the situation with
- 36:56Speaker 2: the restaurant in Nitro. And we saw some of this
- 36:58Speaker 2: last week. There was a report that had circulated about
- 37:01Speaker 2: an incident that took place in the Yeah, and I'm
- 37:03Speaker 2: not in Tays Valley, but go ahead.
- 37:05Speaker 12: I'm not necessarily against ICE. I think the Trump administration
- 37:12Speaker 12: has done a really good job on the border, a
- 37:15Speaker 12: real good job. And the Biden administration on to be
- 37:19Speaker 12: ashamed of itself for opening up that border, letting old
- 37:24Speaker 12: people come across from countries all over the world. But
- 37:30Speaker 12: to do that to Miguel to real GRANDI, I questioned
- 37:36Speaker 12: the use of the resources. First thing, they went there
- 37:40Speaker 12: at eight at government expense. Then they went over to
- 37:43Speaker 12: change clothes. Then they went over to raid the place
- 37:48Speaker 12: while I was open, and apparently there was one guy
- 37:51Speaker 12: on the roof. And I just wonder about the expenditure
- 37:56Speaker 12: of resources to when we're a country that's a trade
- 38:03Speaker 12: and a half dollars in debt every and increases every year,
- 38:09Speaker 12: and is this a good way to spend money to
- 38:13Speaker 12: raid a Mexican restaurant in Nitro.
- 38:17Speaker 2: But there would be people, though Danny and I'll play
- 38:19Speaker 2: Devil's advocate, there would be people that would say, and again,
- 38:23Speaker 2: we don't know all the particulars of this situation, but
- 38:26Speaker 2: in general, and I'm not talking about this restaurant, about
- 38:28Speaker 2: in general, there would be those that say that if
- 38:30Speaker 2: people are here illegally, that they shouldn't be here.
- 38:34Speaker 12: Do you know how many people you're talking about?
- 38:38Speaker 2: That's why I said originally when President Trump ran on
- 38:41Speaker 2: We're going to deport all all the illegals, I was like, yeah.
- 38:45Speaker 12: I'm talking all probably talking about twenty million people.
- 38:50Speaker 2: And there have been those that have also said, look
- 38:52Speaker 2: that the whole selling of this thing for the American
- 38:57Speaker 2: people was we're going after the bad guys that are
- 39:00Speaker 2: peddling the drugs, and we're going after the worst of
- 39:02Speaker 2: the worst criminals and things of that nature. And I
- 39:04Speaker 2: think most people would be okay with that. However, it
- 39:09Speaker 2: seems to me, and I get just an outside of
- 39:11Speaker 2: looking at it, and I'm not talking about this particularly,
- 39:13Speaker 2: it seems to me like we're going after a lot
- 39:14Speaker 2: of people that are making caso, you know, yeah and
- 39:19Speaker 2: her in one one way or the other, that maybe
- 39:22Speaker 2: aren't necessarily that big of a threat. Now they may
- 39:25Speaker 2: be here illegally, and if that's the case, then you
- 39:27Speaker 2: know that's different.
- 39:28Speaker 12: But you know, well, you know most people here go
- 39:32Speaker 12: to Myrtle Beach, or go to Florida or yeah, well
- 39:36Speaker 12: I go to Long Beach, Seal Beach, and you pull
- 39:42Speaker 12: the Mexicans out of that economy, You've got no economy, right,
- 39:46Speaker 12: And I would I would have met. There was a
- 39:50Speaker 12: lady out there and she worked at the breakfast nook,
- 39:53Speaker 12: you know where you went to get your breakfast, and
- 39:57Speaker 12: she has she lived in Signal Hill, which non expensive place,
- 40:03Speaker 12: and she was Latin some kind of and she had
- 40:06Speaker 12: seven children. Two of them went one went in the
- 40:12Speaker 12: Marine Corps, one went in the army. One of them
- 40:15Speaker 12: went to Iraq, the other one to Afghanistan. Should she
- 40:22Speaker 12: be entitled she was illegal, should she be entitled to
- 40:26Speaker 12: some consideration?
- 40:27Speaker 2: I mean for that, But there would also be those
- 40:30Speaker 2: that would say, look, if you are a contributing member
- 40:32Speaker 2: of society, then make yourself legal to go a process
- 40:36Speaker 2: to that.
- 40:37Speaker 12: You would say, what, you can't do it? I mean
- 40:39Speaker 12: it's impossible. It's almost impossible to get a green card,
- 40:43Speaker 12: especially now because this is a very anti immigrant administration.
- 40:53Speaker 12: There was a bill in two thousand and six. I
- 40:55Speaker 12: talked to Nick Joe ray Hall about this last week.
- 40:59Speaker 12: It was in a Bush's bill where they would take
- 41:02Speaker 12: every person that's in this country right now, that's in
- 41:07Speaker 12: here illly goal and give him a green card, provided
- 41:12Speaker 12: they didn't have any criminal record. That way you find
- 41:16Speaker 12: out who and where they are right and then they
- 41:21Speaker 12: have to get in the back of the line as
- 41:23Speaker 12: far as getting their citizens. But I don't know why
- 41:29Speaker 12: we don't take on more citizens. I don't These are
- 41:33Speaker 12: the people that appreciate the American dream more.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Than most and in many cases, not necessarily with this restaurant,
- 41:40Speaker 2: but in many cases, Danny, a lot of these people
- 41:42Speaker 2: you reference California are doing jobs that Americans simply won't do.
- 41:46Speaker 2: That's right, I mean a lot of them.
- 41:48Speaker 12: That's what President Bush said.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I mean if and I've got friends. I've talked about
- 41:53Speaker 2: it on the show. I have a friend that owns
- 41:54Speaker 2: a company and he employees people. They are legal, but
- 41:58Speaker 2: they're legal to come here to work. They're not because
- 42:00Speaker 2: I mean citizens. He said, Hey, I'd like to hire Americans,
- 42:02Speaker 2: but I can't find any Americans to do this. Sure,
- 42:04Speaker 2: his entire workforce are immigrants. Tex says, enough is enough.
- 42:08Speaker 2: The reason they had to eat in plain clothes because
- 42:10Speaker 2: if you actually watch what's going on in Minnesota, these
- 42:13Speaker 2: people are being bullied out of these facilities for enforcing
- 42:15Speaker 2: federal immigration law. If any illegal alien has been here
- 42:19Speaker 2: for years and never bothered or thought they needed to
- 42:23Speaker 2: file for legal citizenship, then that's on them.
- 42:25Speaker 12: You can't file for legal citizenship once you're over here illegally.
- 42:32Speaker 12: That's not the way it works. You have to file
- 42:35Speaker 12: for green cards. And the only thing they did during
- 42:38Speaker 12: Biden administration they just let everybody come come over come
- 42:43Speaker 12: here under the guise of asylum, and.
- 42:49Speaker 2: So it was.
- 42:52Speaker 12: The response was tribal. And you know people that you
- 42:58Speaker 12: know Trump backers say they he can't do anything wrong.
- 43:02Speaker 12: So I just think it's a I question.
- 43:06Speaker 2: The resources text says, tell Danny the administration is not
- 43:10Speaker 2: anti immigrant like he just said, they are anti illegal
- 43:13Speaker 2: immigrant and a huge difference.
- 43:16Speaker 12: I disagree.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Texas people forget that illegals more than likely pay into
- 43:20Speaker 2: Social Security and Medicare, and Willever collect that's correct, But

- 45:43Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show. Seven minutes away from ten. Well,
- 45:46Speaker 2: we got a bunch of texts for Danny Jones. The
- 45:48Speaker 2: text says, you don't just break in, Danny, don't just
- 45:52Speaker 2: break in the country, all right, Tex says Dave Ice
- 45:56Speaker 2: is doing a great job getting illegal people out of
- 45:59Speaker 2: the country. Biden let twenty million illegals to invade this country,
- 46:03Speaker 2: and now we have a president that's trying to correct
- 46:04Speaker 2: the situation.
- 46:06Speaker 12: Okay, I'm not sure you'll at twenty million n but
- 46:09Speaker 12: he's let way too many in. But a lot of
- 46:15Speaker 12: those people like that lady from Signal Hill are good people.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Tex says, the immigration system is broken and the Potus
- 46:25Speaker 2: and Congress are to blame for not voting to improve it,
- 46:27Speaker 2: but prove it has been broken for decades. That's correct,
- 46:31Speaker 2: texas happy Martin Luther King Junior day heck was show
- 46:34Speaker 2: honoring the man. Tex says, what kind of pos gets
- 46:39Speaker 2: to eat at a restaurant and then rate it? Tex says,
- 46:42Speaker 2: it's funny Danny's surprise that Rio got raided. No one's
- 46:45Speaker 2: off limits. Wait till Canada and Europe are villainized, white
- 46:48Speaker 2: people will be getting the ice treatment.
- 46:50Speaker 12: Well, they've already been villainized. I mean, he picked a
- 46:54Speaker 12: fight with Canada when he.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Took office, and now we're going into Greenland.
- 46:59Speaker 12: It's outright okay, it's ridiculous.
- 47:03Speaker 2: It seems to me that it's not maybe the smartest
- 47:05Speaker 2: thing in the world in this Greenland situation. I'm no
- 47:07Speaker 2: international diplomacy expert by any stretch of the imagination, but
- 47:10Speaker 2: to go against NATO, it's part of NATO.
- 47:13Speaker 12: What is he crazy?
- 47:14Speaker 2: And from what I have been told, and you're more
- 47:17Speaker 2: up on this, what I am, I mean pretty much
- 47:19Speaker 2: the things that he wants to do in Greenland. We
- 47:21Speaker 2: can do anyway.
- 47:24Speaker 12: Yeah, we can. If we want to put truth there,
- 47:26Speaker 12: we can put truth there. But he has no right.
- 47:30Speaker 12: We have no right to Greenland. If they want to
- 47:33Speaker 12: Denmark wants to make a deal, right, it would have
- 47:37Speaker 12: to come from them.
- 47:39Speaker 2: But I was watching some of the Sunday morning news shows, Danny,
- 47:41Speaker 2: and I was looking at some of the polling that's
- 47:43Speaker 2: come out. And of course, anytime you talk about poles,
- 47:46Speaker 2: anything that's anti Trump, you know, people are going to
- 47:48Speaker 2: come out and say, well, no one pulled me, you know.
- 47:50Speaker 2: You know, well, I don't know what they're But regardless
- 47:54Speaker 2: of party, there's a couple of things here. Number one,
- 47:58Speaker 2: the majority of Americans think that the government has been
- 48:00Speaker 2: too heavy handed when it comes to the Ice situation.
- 48:03Speaker 2: That's regardless Republican, Democrat or whatever. And they want us
- 48:07Speaker 2: out of Greenland, and they want us to concentrate on
- 48:11Speaker 2: the economy.
- 48:12Speaker 10: Period.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Now, Trump says affordability is a democratic buzzword.
- 48:16Speaker 12: Well, it's a buzzword until you go in the grocery
- 48:19Speaker 12: store now. But the point is what they don't They
- 48:25Speaker 12: had one year inflation was nine percent. It's now about
- 48:30Speaker 12: two point seven prices are not going to go down.
- 48:35Speaker 12: They're not going down, So people better get over it. Now,
- 48:39Speaker 12: what's going up it's going to hurt people is medical.
- 48:46Speaker 12: It's and their medical expense they are going to go up.
- 48:50Speaker 12: And that's what's going to cost votes. And you know
- 48:54Speaker 12: David that I am a betting man. It's sure, and
- 48:57Speaker 12: I will bet that the Democrat have the House in
- 49:02Speaker 12: the next election.
- 49:03Speaker 2: And why do you think that is?
- 49:05Speaker 12: Is it because of the It's not even closed okay,
- 49:08Speaker 12: the economy. It's just it's because of Trump. It's because
- 49:13Speaker 12: of the way President Trump and the way he acts
- 49:15Speaker 12: and and his the chaos people.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Uh.
- 49:22Speaker 12: I think people want to send a message.
- 49:25Speaker 2: I saw, yeah, I saw a comment over the weekend
- 49:28Speaker 2: from Bill Maher and you and I are both big
- 49:30Speaker 2: Bill Moore fans says, look, I just want somebody normal
- 49:33Speaker 2: in the Republican Democrat And this is Bill Maher talking.
- 49:36Speaker 2: He said, I don't care if they're Republican, if they're normal, normal.
- 49:40Speaker 12: They're not going to get it out of the Democrats
- 49:42Speaker 12: that they're going to impeach Trump. Oh, yeah, no doubt
- 49:46Speaker 12: he'll be impeached within the first two three months and
- 49:50Speaker 12: then most three months of the term of the next
- 49:53Speaker 12: term in twenty twenty.
- 49:55Speaker 2: The Democrats sire says, how do you feel about the
- 49:58Speaker 2: anti Ice brown shirt insurrection is storming into a church
- 50:02Speaker 2: service in Minnesota yesterday morning, terrorizing congreants? Did we storm
- 50:06Speaker 2: at a mosque after the September eleventh attacks? This is
- 50:09Speaker 2: war period. I did not know that Texas and he
- 50:14Speaker 2: thought he or she follows up by saying Don Lemon
- 50:16Speaker 2: was with him at that church. I don't know that.
