- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to this episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: We writers are a safe bunch.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Business tycoons love the art of the deal.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Sports figures love the rush of physical conflict, and skydivers love the sight of the ground rushing toward them, sentencing them toward certain doom unless their parachute opens.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And you might actually like all those areas of excitement, but there's a good chance that when it comes to your writing, you're probably playing it safe.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: So, what does it mean to play it safe as a writer?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: It means that you avoid sharing a controversial viewpoint when you feel convicted about it.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: It means you're not willing to upset anybody.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It means you don't say what you really think.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It means that you refuse to share the parts of your story that could really help somebody, even though it has some unsavory parts.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: At its worst, playing it safe means not sharing yourself at all.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Playing it safe is an illusion.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Whenever we play it safe, we're avoiding perceived conflict or judgment.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: In the end, however, if you don't share your work, if you don't share your heart, that's the most unsafe place to be.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: It means that you haven't made a difference and you haven't shared your authentic self.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And that's not the place that you want to be.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So my advice would be to not play it so safe.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Share what you need to share and be brave and be bold.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: But by all means, don't play it safe.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Are you playing it safe in your writing?
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And if so, what could you do to be more brave and bold?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I want to take a moment to let you know about our daily writer membership community.
