Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, and welcome back to Dead Serious.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: As always, I am your hostess with the most us, Ames Marie.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: This is a like seriously mini sewed, the part of Dead Serious where we discuss the wildest things that are happening in true crime.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: You know, that could be the documentaries, could be trial books, updates, just whatever is out there in the true crime universe right now that is speaking to me.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: The things that just leave you with the question of what is going on?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: So this week it's going to be updates.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I was kind of looking around, seeing what's out there, what's going on, and just crazy stuff.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: First, I wanted to start with the 16 minutes uh interview with Patrick Lancy.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: So, okay.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: My dumbass is over here thinking the whole hour is going to be with him.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I don't watch 16 minutes regularly.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It's not one I watch.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: So I don't know their format.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: And here all we got was maybe like 15 minutes of him saying literally nothing new.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: And I don't think he was even posed with any like good questions either.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: It was just very just kind of like soft, not nothing.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And I just thought to myself, you know, what what was the point of this interview?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, like we know you're gonna be a dad again, which great.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it really mattered that you had to share that right now.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, okay, and there's some playground named after them, which is awesome, but I just felt like it was very lacking and very boring, and I wasted 15 minutes of my life on that.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Curious, what did other people think?
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Did you feel like there was something answered there, or would you have liked to see more?
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Next, coming at you from Indiana, Jackson County, Indiana.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: A 30-year-old woman has been sentenced to 33 years following a conviction in the death of her boyfriend's son.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: On May 16th, 2024, a 911 call came in from Cassandra Bracewell saying, He's dead.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I think I killed him.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: The victim was 17-month-old Jalen J.J.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Harding, her boyfriend's son.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: A detective who later testified said when police arrived, the child was almost lifeless.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Cassandra said the boy had climbed out of his portable crib and hid his head on a dresser.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Sure, Cassandra.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Jalen's body was transferred to a children's hospital, and there they discover what really happened.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: The injuries did not line up with a child falling out of a crib.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: They lined up with shaken baby syndrome.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: An autopsy showed the brain was more liquid than solid.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: That is freaking horrible.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Cassandra Bracewell was arrested on May 25th, 2024, on charges of child neglect.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: She then denied what she said on the 911 call.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And her mother, Margie S.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Bracewell Cook, said her daughter was frustrated with the crying and just pushed Jalen back into his portable crib.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: And she also said that Cassandra had told another child in the home not to share what they saw.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: You know how I feel about parents helping kids out with crimes.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: On September 15th, Bracewell pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in death and was sentenced to 33 years of prison with three years suspended.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Jackson County prosecuting attorney Lindsay N.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Fleetwood made a statement, 17 months old.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: This child was just a baby, innocent, defenseless, and entirely dependent upon the adults responsible for his care and protection.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Instead of being protected, this little boy lost his life because of Cassandra Bracewell's criminal neglect.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: That was a horrible story reading that one.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: These are all like not good.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: The next one is out of Florida, Pinellas County, on September 18th, 2026.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: 40-year-old Matthew Weldon was sentenced to life in prison after beating Carol Bryan 49 to death with an axe.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Matthew Weldon met Carol Bryan at a bar and let Bryan borrow his Jaguar SUV.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, but like, okay, you just meet someone randomly.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: You're letting them borrow your Jaguar.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, interesting.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: So he borrows it and Brian doesn't return a vehicle.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And Weldon calls 911 after a week to explain the situation.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: A deputy, in fact, did call Carol Bryan to tell him to return the vehicle.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: On May 21st, 2024, he returns it and the two got into a shoving match, and Weldon grabbed an axe and hit Brian multiple times.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, you you're gonna kill someone over a car.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: When Dispatch arrived, Weldon, who was covered in blood, told them he's dead, he's in there.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Officers pronounced Carol Bryan dead at the scene.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: There was blunt force trauma to his head, neck, and arm.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: He also had four chop marks from the axe.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: There were cameras where you could see Weldon grabbing the axe, but the actual murder was not seen.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: After Weldon killed Brian, he went to his neighbor's house to ask for advice, saying he killed someone.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Thankfully, the neighbor just called 911 and you know, that's the advice, dude.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Call 911, get away.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Next up is a case in Kentucky.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: This is alleged.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: 19-year-old Elijah Mays has been charged with murder, criminal abuse, evidence tampering, abuse of a corpse, and possession of methamphetamine in connection to the death of 11 of an 11-month-old baby.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: His bond is set at 1 million.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, all that, there should be no bond.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: You're not going anywhere.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Elijah was babysitting 11-month-old Grayson Walton, the baby of a family friend.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: On September 12th, 911 was called for a disturbance, and the father of the child was at the home telling officers Mays was watching his son while he was at work.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Mays told officers he dropped the baby off at a friend's the previous evening.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: When that friend was contacted, they told the police no baby had been dropped off there.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Police then executed two search warrants at the home the child was originally supposed to be.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: During the first search, methamphetamines were discovered.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Then, sadly, upon the second search, they found the remains of baby Grayson Walton stuffed inside a couch.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: He was covered in bruises and bite marks on his stomach.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: So freaking sick.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Who does that?
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Mays had created a fake phone contact and sent messages to himself, making it look like he had dropped the baby off with a friend.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Mays plead not guilty, and his next court appearance was on 923.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: So that just happened.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: And here's a weird ad okay, Walton's step-grandfather, Jeff Barnett, was also arrested in connection to this case and was charged with evidence tampering.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: I am curious where this case is gonna go.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: And now we have like another person involved, but what's going on here?
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And then our latest greatest that we all know coming out of Tennessee is Krista Pike, who was set to be executed at 10 a.m.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: on September 30th, the first woman in 200 years.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: She received a last minute stay that morning, and then the execution did end up proceeding at 7:27 p.m.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Thing is, she didn't die.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: After being given two rounds of pentobarbasol, she went unconscious, but her heart never stopped.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: She just started snoring.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: However, she was rushed to the hospital to perform life-saving measures and is in critical condition.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: I think that's so crazy that like you're on death row, they try to kill you, they have like two tries, and then it's like, oh, now we gotta, now we gotta like have emergency assistance to save you.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: It's so stupid.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Um and this isn't even the first failed attempt this year, which that was also crazy finding out.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Like this person has actually botched like three, thinking maybe this person should be fired.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know, just a thought.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: And as of today, she still has not regained consciousness.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So my next Dead Series episode is going to be on her, so stay tuned for that.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: How I originally heard about Krista Pike um was a series on HBO Max called The Mean Girl Murders.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And her story is well, it's more Colleen's story, but uh on season two, episode nine, and it's called She Devil.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Uh, I watched that, I believe it was 2024.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Um, it's a it's good.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: I like the series in general anyway, but that's kind of how I first heard about this.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: And then when I saw that her she was coming up for for execution, I was like, oh yeah, okay, I remember this story.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: So um I attached um a bunch of links about all these articles, the 60-minute interview with Patrick in case you didn't get to see that, the mean girl murders, all of it.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Everything is tagged.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: So check all that out and you know, let me know what you're thinking.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: And um, until next time, stay curious, stay skeptical, and remember if you're asking yourself, like seriously, you're probably not the only one.
