- 0:00Speaker 1: Yo, we're back again episode.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Yes, sir man, we gave up there, dog. We was
- 0:07Speaker 2: looking forward to that one hundred. Yeah, we almost won
- 0:11Speaker 2: fifty exactly.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Man, we're gonna keep this going. This ain't stopping. This
- 0:14Speaker 1: train ain't stopping here.
- 0:17Speaker 2: But yeah, man, just just to kind of start with
- 0:21Speaker 2: this and and this, you know, put a.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Stamp on it. Oscar's just fast.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody was talking about that Conan O'Brien joke basically saying, hey,
- 0:32Speaker 2: we about at the halfway Market's about time for Kendrick
- 0:35Speaker 2: Lamar to come out here, and this Drake.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And call Drake and pedophile. Yeah, they running with that joke,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and I seen on I think it was Twitter, the
- 0:42Speaker 1: writer of that joke, because you know that wasn't going
- 0:45Speaker 1: to Brian's joke. So the writer of that joke tweeted
- 0:48Speaker 1: that he said that he bet the producer fifty bucks
- 0:50Speaker 1: that that joke would hit. And as soon as he
- 0:53Speaker 1: going to Brian said that joke, he goes, I just
- 0:55Speaker 1: want fifty bucks. And but it's gonna hit, especially in
- 0:58Speaker 1: that kind of audience like that. And I don't know
- 1:01Speaker 1: if it was the Oscars trying to outdo the Grammys
- 1:05Speaker 1: and everything that's been going on, but it's like they
- 1:08Speaker 1: are AO draining that ship at that joke.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Bro, that was like that moment where I feel
- 1:14Speaker 2: like everybody collective. He was like, all right, man, this
- 1:16Speaker 2: this is officially corny. Now, yeah, the thing is done.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Let's just yeh move. It's officially our last Drake and
- 1:25Speaker 1: Kendric clip I will say that.
- 1:27Speaker 3: In this context for sure.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Oh yeah yeah, and probably together unless they do something
- 1:31Speaker 2: different or whatever the case is.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Unless Jay and Nazi this is the last time we
- 1:35Speaker 1: grouped them in a segment together. Yeah, man.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And it's kind of crazy just the way that saga
- 1:41Speaker 2: went down when you think about it at the beginning,
- 1:43Speaker 2: and then it ended up being like a multi year
- 1:46Speaker 2: thing almost, you know what I mean. I mean, it
- 1:48Speaker 2: hasn't even been that long, but it's the effect is
- 1:50Speaker 2: going to be a multi year you know what I mean.
- 1:53Speaker 2: But again, dog, I think that thing got the final
- 1:57Speaker 2: nail in his coffee once the uh the Oscars crowd.
- 2:03Speaker 1: If Codon is like you said, if Codon O'Brian's joking
- 2:06Speaker 1: about it is done. It's like that joke in the
- 2:08Speaker 1: group chat that they keep bringing up about you, and
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's like, come on y'all still y'all still bringing that up?
- 2:13Speaker 1: No facts, Bro.
- 2:14Speaker 2: At a certain point, you're getting diminishing returns. It's like
- 2:17Speaker 2: a little kid when they make a joke, everybody laughs
- 2:19Speaker 2: and they say it seven more times because they just
- 2:22Speaker 2: don't understand.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I mean. But done laughing about it, Bro.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, man, but I guess I guess we can parlay
- 2:32Speaker 2: that into the music talk, you know what I mean,
- 2:34Speaker 2: since we started with Drake and Kendrick. But I know
- 2:38Speaker 2: I've been seeing online them talking about how that new
- 2:42Speaker 2: Playboy Cardi album is on the way, and he's been
- 2:45Speaker 2: been on the way for a while, right, Yeah, it's.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Been on the way for a little minute.
- 2:49Speaker 2: His first album also was a thing where it's like
- 2:52Speaker 2: it kind of took forever to come out, and people
- 2:55Speaker 2: was getting to a point where it's like some of
- 2:57Speaker 2: his audience even just outgrew the phase that they was
- 3:00Speaker 2: in to even care about the album anymore, like, which
- 3:03Speaker 2: was very interesting because he came from that like SoundCloud
- 3:05Speaker 2: rap era and that sound was so particularly like young yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You know, selective. It was a special audience that they
- 3:12Speaker 1: were tailoring to at that point.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's like, Bro, if you wait two years
- 3:15Speaker 2: to drop something and your audience is thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, bro,
- 3:19Speaker 2: Like that's a completely different person by the time you
- 3:22Speaker 2: ready to go, you know what I mean. So I
- 3:24Speaker 2: definitely feel like in that first album he kind of
- 3:27Speaker 2: shot himself in the foot as far as like even
- 3:30Speaker 2: just his footing as a rapper, because like you don't
- 3:33Speaker 2: even hear about him no more, how huge he was
- 3:35Speaker 2: at that time.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But it was like now I think he's a dominant
- 3:39Speaker 1: feature artist. Now he's had some really good features on
- 3:43Speaker 1: certain albums.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It's almost like he's just kind of maintained the cloud
- 3:47Speaker 2: from his height, you know what I mean. And like
- 3:51Speaker 2: his his eccentric ways also kind of like go hand
- 3:55Speaker 2: in hand with it because you look at somebody like
- 3:57Speaker 2: Little Pump, which is kind of like it's not the
- 4:00Speaker 2: same because they don't necessarily make the same type of music,
- 4:04Speaker 2: but from the point of view of like the type
- 4:06Speaker 2: of music that we're making as far as the error
- 4:08Speaker 2: is concerned, Little Pump kind of just died because he's
- 4:11Speaker 2: just his style is very young looking. Yeah, his whole
- 4:16Speaker 2: personal was like kind of just youth, dumb youth type
- 4:20Speaker 2: of thing. But Playboy CARTI is kind of like that
- 4:23Speaker 2: vampire thing. It's like it lends itself more for like
- 4:27Speaker 2: bigger range of audience and more people to actually enjoy
- 4:30Speaker 2: it because it's not specifically like, oh this is childish,
- 4:34Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 4:35Speaker 1: And do you think? What do you think? And I
- 4:37Speaker 1: see that in artists like for example, Cardi b. Right,
- 4:41Speaker 1: she came out with that first album, and she hit
- 4:43Speaker 1: with that first album, and then she never came out
- 4:46Speaker 1: with another one, and it's like, do you know when
- 4:49Speaker 1: it's like, all right, I think I lost the fan
- 4:52Speaker 1: base or not, I lost the fan base, but I
- 4:53Speaker 1: can no longer grasp the fan base who appreciate the
- 4:56Speaker 1: album so much, and I don't think I can come
- 4:58Speaker 1: out with something else with that. You think he was
- 5:01Speaker 1: just trying to ride the way for so long he
- 5:03Speaker 1: thought he would it would ride a longer than he
- 5:05Speaker 1: thought he was a yo.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I don't know, man.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Because also just having like little insights to what it
- 5:12Speaker 2: takes to make music and do projects, and just once
- 5:16Speaker 2: people have their hands in what you're doing and you
- 5:18Speaker 2: start touring and stuff, and it becomes a little harder
- 5:21Speaker 2: to get in the studio and focus up and everything.
- 5:23Speaker 2: It could be definitely a lot of things. But going
- 5:27Speaker 2: back to the Cardi angle that you mentioned, I didn't
- 5:29Speaker 2: even think about it that way, but like somebody like
- 5:32Speaker 2: a Cardi b it almost became a thing where like
- 5:36Speaker 2: she blew up because of her personality and music was
- 5:39Speaker 2: just more like the thing that came along with.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Gotcha.
- 5:42Speaker 2: So, going off of the other thing you said about
- 5:46Speaker 2: Playboy Cardi being kind of like the feature guy, now
- 5:48Speaker 2: maybe he just kind of went a route where it's like,
- 5:51Speaker 2: let me just kind of guard my mistique in my aura,
- 5:54Speaker 2: pop out here and there to get a little more
- 5:57Speaker 2: longevity out of than if you would have been like
- 6:00Speaker 2: just dropping music and being consistent, you know what I mean.
- 6:02Speaker 1: There's not many artists you could do that though, Like
- 6:04Speaker 1: I tell you, like that rhymes your Frank Ocean how
- 6:06Speaker 1: he did that. But Frank Ocean had music that spans
- 6:10Speaker 1: over a bunch of demographics, and like he can drop
- 6:14Speaker 1: an album and he still touches all the fan bases
- 6:17Speaker 1: that was already feeling him.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Definitely, because you're not gonna listen to like some baby
- 6:23Speaker 2: Voice Playboy Carty stuff when you thirty six, you know
- 6:26Speaker 2: what I mean, Like you're not about to play that
- 6:27Speaker 2: in front of your family and.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Be like, Yo, this is what I was on when
- 6:30Speaker 3: I was a kid.
- 6:31Speaker 2: But you know the Forrest Gum joined by Frank Ocean
- 6:36Speaker 2: Thinking about You, you know what I mean?
- 6:38Speaker 3: Like those vibes you could play in forever.
- 6:40Speaker 1: We had. We had a little party for Mahomie's wife
- 6:43Speaker 1: on Saturday, and we started doing karaoke to at the
- 6:47Speaker 1: end of the night and then someone put Mahomie Jay
- 6:50Speaker 1: shout out to Jay Superman he did thinking about You.
- 6:52Speaker 1: That was a friend everybody. When everybody got off the
- 6:56Speaker 1: couch and started singing along, and I was like, damn,
- 6:58Speaker 1: that still hits this day.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Thinking About You.
- 7:01Speaker 2: It was one of them songs that I remember when
- 7:04Speaker 2: when it leaked, and it wasn't even like it was
- 7:07Speaker 2: like a different recording. It was like a different beat.
- 7:10Speaker 2: But that version was so raw like and I was
- 7:13Speaker 2: just so attached to it that it took me time
- 7:15Speaker 2: to even love the album version because I was just
- 7:18Speaker 2: so used to that original version that I heard. It
- 7:21Speaker 2: was so different and it was like, like I said,
- 7:22Speaker 2: the production wasn't so polished. It was a little more raw,
- 7:26Speaker 2: a little grittier sound. It probably wasn't even mixed but
- 7:28Speaker 2: sometimes that vibe, Yeah, it just be.
- 7:31Speaker 3: There, you know what I mean.
- 7:31Speaker 1: That's the reason that stopped listening listening to Leaks for
- 7:34Speaker 1: a while, because I remember when Life of Pablo and
- 7:37Speaker 1: even My Beautiful Doctors a Fantasy, when Leaks were coming out,
- 7:42Speaker 1: I ended up loving the leak version more than the official
- 7:44Speaker 1: album version, Like I'm like, damn, like why did he
- 7:46Speaker 1: change that? Like that was my favorite part of that song.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yep uh though, that raw original sound, because you know,
- 7:51Speaker 1: that's when they were in the studio, they were like
- 7:53Speaker 1: this is it, and then they went into album mode
- 7:55Speaker 1: and they're like, all right, let's let's find its perfected.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And I was like, sometimes doesn't need that perfection.
- 8:00Speaker 2: That's another reason why when I'm in the studio and
- 8:05Speaker 2: shout out to the artists that I've been working with lately,
- 8:07Speaker 2: Quincy jamal Taoh, I hadn't work with Tao in a
- 8:11Speaker 2: long time.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Man.
- 8:12Speaker 2: We actually grew up making music together and just disconnected
- 8:15Speaker 2: from man years and we're just kind of reconnecting.
- 8:17Speaker 3: That's been kind of dope.
- 8:19Speaker 2: But we've been in the studio and both of them,
- 8:21Speaker 2: on separate occasions, both of them, on separate occasions, have
- 8:27Speaker 2: brought up maybe involving other people on certain records, maybe
- 8:31Speaker 2: getting some other vocals to do something, and it's like
- 8:34Speaker 2: my response to both of them was kind of the same.
- 8:36Speaker 3: It's like, it probably would be dope.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I'm not saying it wouldn't be dope, and I'm not disagreeing,
- 8:42Speaker 2: but think about the fact that you're trying to bring
- 8:44Speaker 2: another person into this equation to also have a say
- 8:48Speaker 2: in what's going on, to stifle the progress, to not show.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Up whenever we're gonna do something.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Whatever.
- 8:55Speaker 2: It's like for me, Bro, when it comes to music,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I just like to keep it as tight up as
- 9:00Speaker 2: possible because I like to be able.
- 9:02Speaker 3: To drop it when I want to drop it. I
- 9:04Speaker 3: like to be able to not be barred by anything,
- 9:06Speaker 3: like even with with like producing my own stuff.
- 9:11Speaker 2: That's something that's been real impactful to me because it's like,
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Gotta worry about, oh, if the beat.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Maker sells the beat or if he's gonna want too
- 9:19Speaker 2: much money and to tie it into the Kanye thing.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Sampling.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's why I don't sample, Bro, I don't sample at all.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And it's like it's not because I don't like sampling.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Sample is dope.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And it's easy because sounds that's already dope and you're
- 9:35Speaker 2: adding some drums to it and that's it, you know
- 9:37Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Like that, it's not that.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Easy, but it's easier than creating your own sounds, you
- 9:42Speaker 2: know what I mean.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And it's it's a sound that people are used to,
- 9:45Speaker 1: that they heard.
- 9:46Speaker 2: It's familiarity too exactly. And the thing with sampling is
- 9:51Speaker 2: you don't know if you're gonna get it clear. In
- 9:53Speaker 2: a lot of cases, you don't know how much the
- 9:55Speaker 2: original person who owns the song is gonna want for
- 9:59Speaker 2: you sample in it. Like there's people that will take
- 10:02Speaker 2: ninety nine percent of the song. There's people that will
- 10:04Speaker 2: take one hundred percent of the song, like if they
- 10:05Speaker 2: if they're doing it retroactively, Oh no, no, we're not.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Doing those all the royal all royalties.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And another thing that a lot of people don't consider.
- 10:14Speaker 2: They be like, dang, bro, that artist is grimy whatever whatever.
- 10:17Speaker 2: They didn't want to clear the sample dog. A lot
- 10:20Speaker 2: of times these artists don't even own their own masters.
- 10:22Speaker 2: It just be an office of people that they just decide,
- 10:25Speaker 2: oh no, I don't want this sample cleared or whatever.
- 10:27Speaker 2: The case is, and it's like that that you're back
- 10:30Speaker 2: to the drawing board. And then when somebody like you,
- 10:32Speaker 2: here's the song after, and you're like, dang, what happened?
- 10:34Speaker 3: This other version was so dope.
- 10:36Speaker 2: It's like, oh, whoever was involved with this could get
- 10:38Speaker 2: it figured out.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Now it's roughly being a different element into you know, collaborations,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and that's what they call it elements. You know, not
- 10:46Speaker 1: all elements blend well together and react together. And that's
- 10:49Speaker 1: what it is. And that's the risk you take when
- 10:51Speaker 1: you add this and you add that, rather than just
- 10:54Speaker 1: call your own original version. That's way if you produce it,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you mix it, you master it, you write it, do everything,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you organize it. You get closer to your goal than
- 11:04Speaker 1: you would with adding all these other elements to it.
- 11:06Speaker 2: And shout out to unk Man Unk from the Cashiers.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Me and him do a lot of joints together. He's
- 11:11Speaker 2: really big on preaching to me about sound selection. That's
- 11:15Speaker 2: a big thing for him. I'll play him some stuff
- 11:17Speaker 2: and he'll be like, I like this, I like that,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but I would be a little more choosy on your sounds,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like keep digging and keep
- 11:26Speaker 2: finding those ones that are like ah, that's dope, and
- 11:28Speaker 2: that kind of goes hand in hand with like the
- 11:31Speaker 2: sampling thing.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Bro.
- 11:32Speaker 2: It's like sometimes you'll find something and be like, bro,
- 11:36Speaker 2: this is the vibe right here. You add it to
- 11:38Speaker 2: the song. You can't clear the sample. You can replay
- 11:42Speaker 2: it the same style, you can use the same notes,
- 11:45Speaker 2: you can do so much to recreate something, but if
- 11:49Speaker 2: you can't capture that magic that that piece had, it's
- 11:53Speaker 2: not that's the reason why that caught your eye, with
- 11:56Speaker 2: that magic that it had, And if you can't just
- 11:58Speaker 2: transfer that over to a new thing.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Nah, it's different. And big shout out to Unk And
- 12:02Speaker 1: because I remember, I still remember to this day that
- 12:05Speaker 1: he had that b competition uh posts on his Instagram
- 12:09Speaker 1: where he played this beat and I was like that
- 12:11Speaker 1: sample crazy and he coming to back and said that
- 12:13Speaker 1: was no sample, that was all me. I was like,
- 12:15Speaker 1: get out, yep, Now it makes sense.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And I've seen him in the studio take the most
- 12:21Speaker 2: time building the sound, you know what I'm saying, like,
- 12:24Speaker 2: not even not even throwing, just adding layers, adding o
- 12:29Speaker 2: this little stuff, stuff that sometimes you don't even here,
- 12:31Speaker 2: but it just adds to the ambiance as the frequencies,
- 12:34Speaker 2: you know what I mean, And it's it's it's really
- 12:37Speaker 2: like a like an art form, bro, and kind of
- 12:40Speaker 2: like to put a button in the Playboy Cardi thing
- 12:43Speaker 2: is like, at the end of the day, bro, like
- 12:47Speaker 2: lead with your best foot musically, put it out and
- 12:50Speaker 2: let your fan.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Base, trust your fan base, let.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Them consume it and keep them engaged, you know what
- 12:56Speaker 3: I mean?
- 12:56Speaker 2: Because, like I said to me, somebody like Playboy Cardi
- 12:59Speaker 2: bro a lot of those breaks that he took, he
- 13:02Speaker 2: definitely missed out on a lot that kind of put
- 13:06Speaker 2: him almost in like a certain box because like right now,
- 13:11Speaker 2: like the only person that was kind of like big
- 13:13Speaker 2: upping him was Kanye, And look at where Kanye is
- 13:16Speaker 2: right now. So it's like if the last guy that
- 13:18Speaker 2: was big up in you was Kanye, now you're kind
- 13:21Speaker 2: of like on an island by yourself. What you're gonna do,
- 13:24Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, And that's that's never a
- 13:26Speaker 2: situation you want to be in. Because you took too
- 13:29Speaker 2: long to like find yourself.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Then you gonna find some situation that you just don't
- 13:32Speaker 1: want to drop an album again because you're too hesitant
- 13:35Speaker 1: to in your head and you're like, nah, it's not
- 13:38Speaker 1: going to hear. It's not going to hear, like you
- 13:40Speaker 1: should have done it when you could.
- 13:41Speaker 3: That's something that what's her name Cardi B talks about.
- 13:46Speaker 2: That's why I feel about just being too in her
- 13:49Speaker 2: head about he's been so long and you want to
- 13:50Speaker 2: drop such a perfect thing because your fans been waiting
- 13:54Speaker 2: for so long. The first one was so successful. And
- 13:56Speaker 2: that's the funny thing about music too, Bro, Like that
- 13:58Speaker 2: first album, that's that's you, like you put your that's
- 14:02Speaker 2: your first album.
- 14:03Speaker 1: You got right there, Bro, I love that album.
- 14:05Speaker 3: You put a different energy or yourself into it.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Like you can't replicate that, Bro, You're never gonna get
- 14:10Speaker 2: that vibe on the second album. Like, no matter how
- 14:12Speaker 2: dope and artist, second, third, fourth, whatever, no matter what, Bro,
- 14:16Speaker 2: that first album feeling, you cannot replicate it.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Nobody has ever done it successfully. They could do it,
- 14:24Speaker 1: like the feeling wise, but the numbers wise, I don't
- 14:26Speaker 1: think it's ever done it.
- 14:27Speaker 2: And even if the numbers are better, the acclaim is
- 14:31Speaker 2: never the same, you know what I mean? Like people
- 14:33Speaker 2: always exactly, people always look to that like one of
- 14:37Speaker 2: those to me, that was a real big I wouldn't
- 14:40Speaker 2: say letdown.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Letdown is a little strong.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But somebody that I was like, dang with the second
- 14:47Speaker 2: album was fifty cent bro. Oh yeah, because I feel
- 14:51Speaker 2: like and he's even said it too. He puts so
- 14:54Speaker 2: much energy into the G Unit stuff and just that
- 14:56Speaker 2: run in general, that like BEG for merc he sounded
- 15:00Speaker 2: like it was like the follow up to get rich
- 15:02Speaker 2: of that tryan you know what I'm saying. And he
- 15:04Speaker 2: said that he gave a lot of the joints that
- 15:06Speaker 2: he was working on for what would have been his
- 15:07Speaker 2: second album for BEG for Mercy, and the label didn't
- 15:10Speaker 2: even want BEG for Mercy because they're like, bro, you
- 15:13Speaker 2: just sold X.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Amount of albums.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Bro, drop another album and he's like, nah, I'm dropping
- 15:17Speaker 2: this Unit project. And the Union project went crazy, but
- 15:21Speaker 2: you know it wouldn't have went It's crazy if it
- 15:22Speaker 2: was just fifty cent at that time.
- 15:24Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Am I remember that? That was Tonyeo said that on
- 15:27Speaker 1: Drink Champs. He was like, Bro, he's like fifty looked
- 15:29Speaker 1: out for us. He put us, He put the group
- 15:32Speaker 1: G Unit in front of his whole success. He's like nah,
- 15:35Speaker 1: He's like, y'all gonna give me my album. Well, we're
- 15:36Speaker 1: gonna put g unit out here first. YO.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Shout out to Tonyeo for looking thirty six since nineteen ninety.
- 15:43Speaker 3: And I don't know if it's that little.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Bro he got the wisdom because he always been on
- 15:47Speaker 2: fifty side. Bro, And everybody always want to say that
- 15:50Speaker 2: he's d riding or whatever. But it's like, Bro, he knows,
- 15:53Speaker 2: like like what he said in the interview, he knows
- 15:54Speaker 2: what it is, Bro.
- 15:55Speaker 3: He knows fifty is the one. Bro. The fact that
- 15:59Speaker 3: he's y'all along and doing all this stuff.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Bro, that was a recent interview. That wasn't even years ago.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I was recent. He'said, Yo, fifty put us first. Yep.
- 16:06Speaker 1: He put his people first before he even cared about
- 16:08Speaker 1: his second out.
- 16:09Speaker 2: But that's always been expressed privately between them because fifty
- 16:13Speaker 2: has never had issues with Yeah you know what I mean,
- 16:15Speaker 2: he knows that. Yeah, you appreciation it, Bro. That That's
- 16:18Speaker 2: the thing about people's egos too, Bro, you're in a group.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I mean, everybody should feel to a certain point where
- 16:24Speaker 2: you could be the biggest and the best whatever. I understand, Bro,
- 16:27Speaker 2: you in a group of fifty cent. You see in
- 16:29Speaker 2: the history, he's been a dog get stay in your place.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I'm let him make the call.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Stay in your place, dog like, until you can get
- 16:35Speaker 2: to the point where you could definitively say nah, bro,
- 16:38Speaker 2: like I'm ready or this is my time or whatever.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Dog like the fact that everybody wanted to be the
- 16:44Speaker 2: big dog and everything. Bro. It's like say Lloyd Banks, Yeah, yo,
- 16:48Speaker 2: Lloyd Banks Game two.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Bro. I was a big Game fan, but he thought
- 16:51Speaker 3: he was too big for Juni.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Bro Like, we only knew you because a Junion dog Bro.
- 16:57Speaker 2: He got signed G Unit just just off the strength
- 17:00Speaker 2: of Game getting signed Unit. I listened to all his
- 17:03Speaker 2: mixtapes just because they signed him.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yo.
- 17:05Speaker 2: They just signed this dude out of Cali and he
- 17:09Speaker 2: was signed out aftermath, I think, and then they and
- 17:12Speaker 2: like I said, Bro, as soon as I knew, I
- 17:14Speaker 2: was all right, But let me listen to all this music,
- 17:16Speaker 2: dog like, it was just off the strength.
- 17:18Speaker 1: You know. The point is, recognize your place, recognize where
- 17:22Speaker 1: you are, make the right decisions to attack before it's
- 17:25Speaker 1: too late. Then you're backtracking at that point, and it
- 17:29Speaker 1: might it might be too late, just like for Cardi
- 17:31Speaker 1: Playboy Cardi, it might be too late. You had your chance,
- 17:35Speaker 1: you had your fan base. Maybe it might be too
- 17:36Speaker 1: late for both cardies, both cardies. Yeah, real talk, but.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we can kind of put a button on this
- 17:42Speaker 2: with the last music topic that we got and this
- 17:47Speaker 2: one kind of no, no, we'll keep we'll keep it
- 17:50Speaker 2: in this one because it's the last little music that's it.
- 17:53Speaker 2: But so this I understand this though, but this one
- 17:59Speaker 2: kind of made me grow and like made me feel
- 18:01Speaker 2: a little bad.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Bro, I just.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Seen you know recipes Valletta Wallace, Biggie's mom. She passed
- 18:06Speaker 2: away like a week and a half or so ago. Bro,
- 18:09Speaker 2: Like a week after she passed, Bro, they started dropping
- 18:11Speaker 2: the rumblings that they're about to sell Biggie's catalog to
- 18:15Speaker 2: some company. And like, Bro, as soon as she passed,
- 18:19Speaker 2: It's like that.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Means they had that ship in line. They had it
- 18:22Speaker 1: in line. They were ready. They knew the money, the
- 18:25Speaker 1: posthumous albums that Biggie could make. He had a couple,
- 18:28Speaker 1: but the Bigger Duets was good. Right. I'm not gonna
- 18:32Speaker 1: lie I was a fan of bigg Duets. Yeah, same,
- 18:34Speaker 1: I did that, But they didn't do with Biggie what
- 18:36Speaker 1: they did with pac you know what I mean As
- 18:39Speaker 1: far as far as everything he had left though, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: he's probably had more that we haven't even heard the thing.
- 18:42Speaker 3: We're biggie too.
- 18:43Speaker 2: And basically the main reason why they even buy these
- 18:46Speaker 2: catalogs is for the licensing fees. Like, Bro, you're talking
- 18:49Speaker 2: about Big Papa, you're talking about Uh if damn forgot
- 18:54Speaker 2: the name.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Of that song?
- 18:54Speaker 3: If you don't know.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Now you know, no one more chance.
- 18:59Speaker 2: No, no, bro, the the name is like something that
- 19:02Speaker 2: that doesn't get juicy U.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I can't believe I forgot that.
- 19:07Speaker 2: But yeah, so you got juicy one more chance that
- 19:10Speaker 2: you mentioned, you know, diverse on Benjamin's Like, Bro, you
- 19:13Speaker 2: hear these things on so many victory, Bro, you.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Hear that on so many things.
- 19:16Speaker 2: And it's like now they have whoever buys it from
- 19:19Speaker 2: them has the right to license. That's whoever wants to
- 19:21Speaker 2: buy the license.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I think within the last five years, it was like
- 19:27Speaker 1: the NBA Finals weekend and they were playing Victory. Yeah.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I remember that.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Like they're still using them like that. Those tracks
- 19:35Speaker 1: hit So there's like movie soundtrack songs.
- 19:37Speaker 2: And then there's always an argument too of like why
- 19:42Speaker 2: would you sell your music catalog? But then the other
- 19:45Speaker 2: side of it is if somebody's offering you three hundred
- 19:48Speaker 2: million for your music, Do you honestly feel like you're
- 19:50Speaker 2: gonna make three hundred million dollars from your music in
- 19:53Speaker 2: the next thirty years or something?
- 19:55Speaker 1: Like?
- 19:55Speaker 2: You know how hard you would have to work to
- 19:58Speaker 2: make Like, for example, the Big had a log, Bro,
- 20:00Speaker 2: this is a dude that passed away I believe in
- 20:03Speaker 2: nineteen ninety six or seven.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Like, Bro, they're talking about seven, the sale would come ninety.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Six, the sale would come in at under one hundred million.
- 20:12Speaker 2: You're talking about one hundred million dollars for a couple
- 20:15Speaker 2: of rap albums from almost thirty years ago. Bro, How
- 20:19Speaker 2: is he going to make one hundred million off that
- 20:21Speaker 2: music posthumously in any other way?
- 20:24Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 20:25Speaker 2: So it's like I definitely get it, but I don't know,
- 20:28Speaker 2: maybe just as an artist, there's just something about not
- 20:31Speaker 2: owning your music that's just kind of weird, bro, you
- 20:33Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like it's just crazy to think, like, oh,
- 20:36Speaker 2: I couldn't do certain things with my own music. Like
- 20:39Speaker 2: it's even crazy to me still. I mentioned on the
- 20:41Speaker 2: podcast too, that you can even own music like just air,
- 20:43Speaker 2: Like it's just it's just frequencies. You're telling me you
- 20:47Speaker 2: own it like it's crazy, though it's crazy as hell.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Nice bro, And like I said, you know, and this
- 20:53Speaker 1: is when I know. And this is like not not
- 20:56Speaker 1: to get too deep into like the super Bowl, who
- 20:58Speaker 1: should perform with the super Bowl, but with America and
- 21:02Speaker 1: the US and the fan base in US across all
- 21:08Speaker 1: races and demographics and everything like, there is a certain
- 21:13Speaker 1: list of rappers that everybody knows and it was all
- 21:17Speaker 1: family feud who was the top best rappers? You know?
- 21:20Speaker 1: And it's always Biggie, Tupac, Snoop Doc, Doctor Dre. Those
- 21:24Speaker 1: are the household names for rappers, no matter your background,
- 21:30Speaker 1: no matter your ethnicity. Those are if anybody knows, you
- 21:33Speaker 1: could ask anybody's world name five rappers, it's Biggie, Tupac,
- 21:38Speaker 1: Snoop Dog, and Doctor j are gonna be in those
- 21:40Speaker 1: four facts. Those are well household known names, you know.
- 21:44Speaker 2: And we could kind of wrap it up with this,
- 21:45Speaker 2: but with the Super Bowl thing, because you reminded me
- 21:48Speaker 2: of something. People are always so pressed about who's performing
- 21:51Speaker 2: at the halftime show every year. There's always some crazy
- 21:55Speaker 2: thing and people going back and forth, and there's always
- 21:57Speaker 2: people that hate it. There's always people that love it.
- 22:00Speaker 2: But it's like, Bro, if you notice Super Bowl performers
- 22:04Speaker 2: in the last twenty thirty whatever since it's been a thing,
- 22:09Speaker 2: I always feel like they just get people that are
- 22:12Speaker 2: going to attract the people that.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Weren't going to watch the super Bowl.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Oh for sure, you know what I mean, Because it's like,
- 22:18Speaker 2: why are you going to just get an act for
- 22:20Speaker 2: the demographic that's already going to be tuning in, Like
- 22:24Speaker 2: the year they got j Lo and Shakira. Bro, they
- 22:26Speaker 2: didn't get that for football fans. They got it to
- 22:29Speaker 2: get the ladies, to get the latinos.
- 22:31Speaker 1: And you see it like you see tweets and you
- 22:33Speaker 1: see posts. I only tuned in for the halftime show, exactly.
- 22:36Speaker 1: That's all I cared about exactly.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It's like, Bro, that's that's what it is. The way
- 22:41Speaker 2: people get so bent out of shape about it and
- 22:43Speaker 2: go back and forth and everything.
- 22:45Speaker 3: It's like, bro, it's music.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Dog Like, if you.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Don't like it, you don't like it, just shut up.
- 22:49Speaker 1: And it's not for you. Let's what I always tell
- 22:51Speaker 1: my people who don't like stuff that I like, it's
- 22:53Speaker 1: not for you. Facts nothing after after
