- 0:08Speaker 1: What's up everybody? Welcome back to another episode of Bucco Territory,
- 0:12Speaker 1: presented to you by the Foul Territory Network. And joining
- 0:15Speaker 1: me today is Josh Harrison aka j Hey. How's it going, Josh?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Good? How about you? Key planning?
- 0:22Speaker 1: All right? Yeah? Yeah, two man show here tonight. Noah
- 0:26Speaker 1: can't be with us. Some tough news today in the
- 0:29Speaker 1: Pittsburgh media scene, with the Post Gazette shutting its doors
- 0:32Speaker 1: in May. I just want to say a quick word
- 0:35Speaker 1: just support Noah, such a talented guy. Really really sad
- 0:40Speaker 1: to see local journalism being impacted, especially in Pittsburgh, only
- 0:45Speaker 1: real local newspaper there. So really just a tough day
- 0:50Speaker 1: for journalism and people that value and appreciate good journalism.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So thoughts with Noah tonight. But instead we're gonna be
- 0:59Speaker 1: getting to know Josh Harrison a little bit better and
- 1:01Speaker 1: doing a little interview here, just the two of us. So, Josh,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I've got some questions written down about your time with
- 1:09Speaker 1: the Pirates, your MLB career, some from me, some from
- 1:13Speaker 1: a couple of other fans I reached out to, and
- 1:16Speaker 1: people were pretty excited to ask Josh Harrison some questions.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So first one I want to get into what's stat
- 1:24Speaker 1: are you most proud of throughout your career from a season,
- 1:27Speaker 1: from just your entirety of your career, So anything jump out.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Oh that's a good question. What stat. I have not
- 1:37Speaker 2: had that question asked to me before, Like I don't
- 1:39Speaker 2: know about a certain stat. But I think one of
- 1:45Speaker 2: my favorite things, and I've told this time and time again,
- 1:47Speaker 2: is my first walk off was on Mother's Day and
- 1:49Speaker 2: my mom and grandma were My mom and grandma were
- 1:51Speaker 2: in stance. They were there and it was a getaway day.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So that's one that I will always remember. So like
- 1:57Speaker 2: one of my favorite things is my first career walk
- 1:59Speaker 2: off was against the Astros in the rain against in
- 2:02Speaker 2: like the eleventh inning, and I got the shaven cream,
- 2:05Speaker 2: you know, like then, like I remember going to the
- 2:10Speaker 2: visiting side dugout. I had got my mom and grandma
- 2:13Speaker 2: like down and like took a picture with them because
- 2:14Speaker 2: it's like a walk off and I saw him underneath
- 2:17Speaker 2: as the game. But like that that that was one
- 2:18Speaker 2: of my first that was that was my first walk off.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and have Mothers Days.
- 2:23Speaker 2: That's that's something that that I've always been like, that's
- 2:26Speaker 2: one of my favorite members, Yeah, and I got a
- 2:28Speaker 2: lot of them.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Reminds me of another Pirate's probably favorite memory, Jacksonwinsky. Uh,
- 2:34Speaker 1: he hit three home runs on Father's Day in his
- 2:37Speaker 1: rookie year and his dad was an attendant. Since dad's
- 2:40Speaker 1: at basically every Pirates game. But got to still this
- 2:44Speaker 1: day right now, not walk off now, you know that's still.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Still in the home roown Father's Day. What do you
- 2:51Speaker 2: give your dad?
- 2:52Speaker 1: I hit your home run to day, right, Yeah. So
- 2:56Speaker 1: let's see what else we got here for you. So,
- 2:59Speaker 1: do you have any hurdleisms from your former manager Clint Hurdle.
- 3:04Speaker 1: He's he just put out a book of hurdleisms. I
- 3:06Speaker 1: don't know if you can if.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I don't know if any're in the book. But I
- 3:11Speaker 2: had said it, and he used to say it all
- 3:15Speaker 2: the time. There's a couple like the game doesn't know
- 3:17Speaker 2: it's important. And you know, whether it's the first inning
- 3:20Speaker 2: or the ninth ninth inning, you know, everybody makes a
- 3:23Speaker 2: big deal about the ninth inning, you know, the game
- 3:25Speaker 2: winning hit or you know you're struck out with bases loaded.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But he's like, nobody makes a big deal about the
- 3:29Speaker 2: third inning with bases loaded, and you don't get a run.
- 3:31Speaker 2: He goes the game, doesn't know how important the game is.
- 3:34Speaker 2: So whether it's the first inning or the ninth inning,
- 3:37Speaker 2: you know, he said, we got one job to do.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Let's score one more run than the other team. And
- 3:42Speaker 2: we would be like, come on, man, we get it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: But at the same time it was like, what, hey,
- 3:46Speaker 2: you have to one more run. Whether it's one or nothing,
- 3:50Speaker 2: ten or nine. Good game, bad game, find a way
- 3:53Speaker 2: to win. And those are a couple that just stuck with
- 3:56Speaker 2: me because it was always game doesn't know it's important
- 3:58Speaker 2: because you know what we do, put tend to put
- 4:00Speaker 2: more pressure on yourself later in the game, as opposed
- 4:03Speaker 2: to a biggest moment might be that third inning bases
- 4:05Speaker 2: loaded exactly.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I love that every more every moment's important. Yeah. So
- 4:12Speaker 1: this one was asked by jess Off of Twitter. She said,
- 4:16Speaker 1: if you could take one player from the current Pirates
- 4:19Speaker 1: team and add them to the twenty thirteen twenty fifteen team,
- 4:22Speaker 1: who would you pick and why? And I think I'll
- 4:24Speaker 1: edit this by saying, besides Paul Skins, okay, I might
- 4:28Speaker 1: want you might want to a young winner.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but Paul was the yeah, sure answer. I mean
- 4:34Speaker 2: we had a good team to shore up that. I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 2: make our starting staff that much better.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think Paul makes any team better.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, for sure. But but without Paul Skins, if
- 4:46Speaker 2: I don't have to choose him. Man, who's got the
- 4:50Speaker 2: most personality on the.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Team, Brian Reynolds. No, I'm just make a like post.
- 4:57Speaker 1: When Brian Reynolds would smile on the field, it was
- 4:59Speaker 1: a big deal, like Brian Reynolds smile or uh, I
- 5:03Speaker 1: guess he's pretty funny behind the scenes. But yeah, I
- 5:06Speaker 1: mean there's a lot of personality in this clubhouse right now,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I see to see it right right.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah. I was about to say, because because personality, they
- 5:16Speaker 2: would have had to blend down with a good personality.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I mean cutching like O'Neill, cruise, they get along.
- 5:21Speaker 2: So if O'Neill had if O'Neill, it might have been
- 5:24Speaker 2: O'Neill I was.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I can see with that team a little bit.
- 5:28Speaker 2: No, I can see it because he looks like I know.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I got to play against him in spring training. I
- 5:32Speaker 2: think it was twenty three when I was with the
- 5:34Speaker 2: Phillies and man Couch was talking around the like cage.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and you know I'm looking at O'Neill cruise like, man,
- 5:40Speaker 2: this dude is like six seven. And funny story, we
- 5:45Speaker 2: were playing them in clear Water and I was playing
- 5:48Speaker 2: shortstop this game for the Phillies and O'Neill was playing
- 5:51Speaker 2: shortstop for the Pipes. My mom and my aunt are
- 5:54Speaker 2: at the game and that this person doesn't know that
- 5:57Speaker 2: she's my mom, and you know, they're like, man, they're
- 6:01Speaker 2: sure stop is so tall and is over here like
- 6:04Speaker 2: Kevin Hart. And my mom goes, that's my son and
- 6:09Speaker 2: they go, oh no, no, he can play though, yeah yeah, yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 2: But but I just remember Cutch did introduce me to Neil.
- 6:15Speaker 2: He was a super cool dude. So so definitely, if
- 6:18Speaker 2: it's not Paul, I could definitely see somebody that's lively,
- 6:22Speaker 2: that's gonna have fun, that is going to be out there,
- 6:24Speaker 2: that is not going to be afraid to be themselves right,
- 6:28Speaker 2: And O'Neill might be that guy.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I love it. If you could get dinner with one
- 6:33Speaker 1: person in baseball history, anytime, living or dad, who would
- 6:37Speaker 1: you take out to dinner and why.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It's a good question.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Doesn't have to be a player. It could be a coach,
- 6:46Speaker 1: could be anyone.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'll be honest, it would be hard to not say
- 6:54Speaker 2: Jackie Robbins, yeah, just because he endured a lot. Man,
- 6:59Speaker 2: But you Knowackie Robinson Day as a special day across baseball,
- 7:02Speaker 2: but not only just for African American black players, the
- 7:05Speaker 2: whole game of baseball, because I would get the question
- 7:08Speaker 2: a lot on Jackie Robinson Day being a black baseball player,
- 7:10Speaker 2: and a lot of times though say, it's not just
- 7:12Speaker 2: me affected, you know, it's everybody. Look, you got people
- 7:15Speaker 2: from different countries. So just breaking that barrier and then
- 7:20Speaker 2: watching the movie forty two and knowing a little bit
- 7:21Speaker 2: more behind the scenes, obviously you know, asking want to
- 7:25Speaker 2: ask questions like, man, how did you get through it? Obviously,
- 7:27Speaker 2: you know, probably cliche answers that we all would expect,
- 7:30Speaker 2: but you know that that's something that he went through
- 7:33Speaker 2: that a lot of us wouldn't even fathom going through
- 7:36Speaker 2: for one day.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I don't know how you could even answer
- 7:39Speaker 1: that question as him, right, like how did you get
- 7:40Speaker 1: through it? I don't know, just right, yeah, And so yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 1: that's I would love that. That would be fun dinner.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Let's see what else here. When you're with the pirates,
- 7:52Speaker 1: do you have any like notable fan interactions that stood
- 7:55Speaker 1: out any favorites, Like someone asks you to sign something
- 7:59Speaker 1: weird or something, I.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Mean I won't. I mean, what is considered weird weird
- 8:05Speaker 2: is yeah, you different for everybody. But I mean, I
- 8:09Speaker 2: mean I've signed a baby before. No, like yeah, yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 2: I mean, and I'd be like, man, you know they
- 8:15Speaker 2: don't want to. They're like, no, no, no, it's okay, sign
- 8:17Speaker 2: we want. I mean, I've signed kids hands and I'm like,
- 8:22Speaker 2: you gotta practice hygiene, you know, this gotta get washed off,
- 8:25Speaker 2: you know. But but more than anything, just from a perspective,
- 8:28Speaker 2: this is one of the stories that I always like
- 8:29Speaker 2: to tell, you know, being a professional athlete, I can
- 8:33Speaker 2: remember before I got married my wife, she's my girlfriend
- 8:36Speaker 2: fiance at the time, but she was still working and
- 8:38Speaker 2: I remember coming out of the garage and you know,
- 8:40Speaker 2: everybody's driving past, and I stop over and I signed,
- 8:43Speaker 2: and one one fan goes appreciate you, Jay, Hey, you're
- 8:45Speaker 2: one of the good ones. And I go, I mean,
- 8:47Speaker 2: what do you mean one of the good ones. He's like, man,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you stopped and signed for us. And I was like,
- 8:52Speaker 2: oh man, you know, me stopping a sign doesn't make me,
- 8:54Speaker 2: you know, A good one. And you know, I said,
- 8:57Speaker 2: I never do this, but look at my card. There's
- 8:59Speaker 2: nobody with me, know, like my teammate that you don't
- 9:02Speaker 2: think it's a good person. And he's been at the
- 9:04Speaker 2: field for ten hours and he got his wife and
- 9:05Speaker 2: three kids in the corner. You just want to go home.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and that and that fan and he was like,
- 9:12Speaker 2: you know what, man, I appreciate that. I'll never say it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Dude is a good dude just for something the autograph,
- 9:17Speaker 2: because I was like, I've seen some dudes that are
- 9:20Speaker 2: not good, like you know, yeah, yeah, but that's always
- 9:26Speaker 2: one of the fan interactions that I've had. I've had
- 9:29Speaker 2: some other ones that probably need to stay off of
- 9:31Speaker 2: the camera because some choice words and so yeah, some
- 9:34Speaker 2: gestures that that probably weren't you know, PG. Thirteen, But
- 9:38Speaker 2: that was me being a visiting player probably you know, uh,
- 9:42Speaker 2: I ain't gonna lie. I was probably getting under their skin.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It was it was at Wrigley, it was.
- 9:46Speaker 1: In Philly, I guess where. Yeah, those games were happening.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I love it. Let's see what else we got here. Uh,
- 9:56Speaker 1: if you had to so Ian libatch and if you're
- 9:59Speaker 1: going to pitch for guy where's the first place you're
- 10:01Speaker 1: stopping to eat?
- 10:04Speaker 2: So I get that question a lot. One of my
- 10:08Speaker 2: spots it was a little little diner. I saw it
- 10:11Speaker 2: on diners, drive ins, and dives for breakfast. I know,
- 10:13Speaker 2: I know a lot of people do pamelas on the
- 10:15Speaker 2: South Side. Yeah, but but my little hole in the wall,
- 10:19Speaker 2: a little under the radar spot was Nadine's.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Okays off to try that next yime.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Cooking off the griddle, breakfast lunch. Small place, but like
- 10:29Speaker 2: just fresh food. That's my that's my spot, Nadine's.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Let's see what was the favorite season in your MB career?
- 10:38Speaker 1: Pirates are not just for you personally, what what years
- 10:41Speaker 1: stood out?
- 10:44Speaker 2: Obviously fourteen it was my first All Star year, but
- 10:49Speaker 2: that was also the first year I got a chance
- 10:50Speaker 2: to play, and a lot of things just happened really fast.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Nothing that I wasn't prepared for. But at the same time,
- 10:58Speaker 2: you never really know what the future holds. But to
- 11:02Speaker 2: go from being three years in the league, did not
- 11:04Speaker 2: really get a chance to play, to you know, finding
- 11:07Speaker 2: my way in the lineup and then you know, making
- 11:08Speaker 2: an All Star team, being top ten and MVP voting,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I would say that's definitely one of my more memorable ones.
- 11:16Speaker 2: You know, my family got to enjoy it with me.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I end up signing my contract the following year, So
- 11:21Speaker 2: fourteen was definitely a year to remember and uh, definitely
- 11:24Speaker 2: one I won't forget. Yeah, and we made the playoffs.
- 11:27Speaker 2: It was second year in the road making the playoffs.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So I mean you're talking adam icing on the cake.
- 11:32Speaker 2: You know, My my personal stuff was icing on the
- 11:34Speaker 2: cake because thirteen I didn't play much, but we made
- 11:36Speaker 2: the playoffs and I'm like, hey, you know, hey, we're here,
- 11:39Speaker 2: you know. And to be able to come back in
- 11:41Speaker 2: fourteen and be a part of the team that you know,
- 11:44Speaker 2: pushed to make it back to the playoffs again, was
- 11:46Speaker 2: definitely a year that I always remember.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Perfect because that leads me in right to my next
- 11:51Speaker 1: question from steel O City Awesome account on Twitter there
- 11:56Speaker 1: because he asked, at what point did you realize during
- 11:59Speaker 1: your twenty fourteen teen season that it wasn't just a
- 12:02Speaker 1: hot streak?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Always? Yeah it was. It was never a hot streak
- 12:08Speaker 2: to me, just from a standpoint, I think I got
- 12:12Speaker 2: the question when I became an All Star. It was like, oh, man,
- 12:14Speaker 2: did you ever think to be an All Star and
- 12:16Speaker 2: to say, why wouldn't I've been an All Star at
- 12:17Speaker 2: every level in the minor leagues, I've been an All
- 12:19Speaker 2: Star everywhere, So what makes you think I couldn't do
- 12:21Speaker 2: it in the major leagues? And that wasn't anything, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 2: taking a slight at the you know, person that asked
- 12:26Speaker 2: me the question. I've always carried myself with a lot
- 12:29Speaker 2: of confidence and there was nothing that I achieved that
- 12:33Speaker 2: was a surprise to me, just because I always knew
- 12:37Speaker 2: what I was capable of. Now I do sit back
- 12:41Speaker 2: and have some plays or something of that batch from like, dang,
- 12:43Speaker 2: I really don't know how I did that. You know,
- 12:45Speaker 2: playing a lot of games, you know you're gonna swing,
- 12:47Speaker 2: get some pitches and hit some stuff and make some plays.
- 12:49Speaker 2: But everything that I did in fourteen was was not
- 12:52Speaker 2: a fluke to me. It was backed up by, you know,
- 12:54Speaker 2: my next full healthy season in seventeen with the second
- 12:57Speaker 2: All Star year. But a lot of the game is
- 13:00Speaker 2: just being healthy, and you know, there's a lot of
- 13:04Speaker 2: could have, should have, would have. But at the end
- 13:05Speaker 2: of the day, you know, you got to make the
- 13:06Speaker 2: most of what you have, and you know, I was
- 13:08Speaker 2: blessed and fortunate enough and fourteen was not a fluke
- 13:10Speaker 2: because I backed it up with a second one and
- 13:11Speaker 2: seventeen exactly.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Love it. I love that confidence because I mean that
- 13:15Speaker 1: that's what you need as a professional athlete, right Like
- 13:18Speaker 1: you have to believe in yourself you in the game.
- 13:21Speaker 2: That especially in the game that you fail a lot. Yeah,
- 13:23Speaker 2: I mean, if your confidence is gone, you're gonna feel
- 13:26Speaker 2: a lot more.
- 13:28Speaker 1: It's gonna show up real quick. Yeah. And that. So
- 13:32Speaker 1: you mentioned that some of those moments, uh, Vinnie bufone
- 13:35Speaker 1: Vino on Twitter. I wanted to know what was it
- 13:38Speaker 1: like getting out of those famous rundowns and what was
- 13:42Speaker 1: going through your head during and after it.
- 13:44Speaker 2: So, first one, I didn't start the game. It was
- 13:47Speaker 2: after I think I came in. I pinched it in
- 13:50Speaker 2: like the ninth or the tenth thing, let off with
- 13:52Speaker 2: like a double and Polanco hit that ball, and I'm like,
- 13:55Speaker 2: oh shoot, I'm in no man's land. I got to
- 13:57Speaker 2: get Polanco the second and I know the rule. Everybody's like, man,
- 14:00Speaker 2: he was out of the baseline. But you get I
- 14:02Speaker 2: think three feet to the right and left. You every
- 14:04Speaker 2: time you turn and change direction and you establish it.
- 14:08Speaker 2: But I told people to lie that's just to stop
- 14:10Speaker 2: dropping roll. That's having two older brothers escaping, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: you know, running and ducking on the couches, and you know,
- 14:17Speaker 2: I was just getting Polanco to the second and once
- 14:19Speaker 2: I realized that Polanco was there, everybody was like, man,
- 14:22Speaker 2: you look like you twisted your knee. And I was
- 14:24Speaker 2: like no, I thought about going back, but I realized like, nah,
- 14:26Speaker 2: third base is right there. Just slide. Yeah. And then
- 14:30Speaker 2: my favorite one is actually the second one that happened
- 14:32Speaker 2: in Colorado because day game dirt was hard. Remember sliding
- 14:37Speaker 2: in a second and I slid past the bag and
- 14:40Speaker 2: in my head it happened so slow. It was like
- 14:43Speaker 2: I think Josh Rutledge was the shortstop and like he
- 14:46Speaker 2: sees me slide past the bag and he's like waiting
- 14:48Speaker 2: for me a natural reaction to reach back to the
- 14:50Speaker 2: bag because like, oh, he slid all the way past it,
- 14:53Speaker 2: he's got to come back to it. And he's like
- 14:55Speaker 2: looking at me like major League Willie Mays when he
- 14:58Speaker 2: starts like come on, and I just like get up,
- 15:00Speaker 2: and I'm like I already touched second. I'm gonna run
- 15:03Speaker 2: a third because if I go back to second, that's
- 15:05Speaker 2: a cause stealing. If I go to third, that's a
- 15:07Speaker 2: stolen base with getting out trying to advance.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Love it.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And I just got in that rundown and I was like,
- 15:13Speaker 2: let me pick my you know, pick pick who I'm
- 15:15Speaker 2: gonna pick on. And it was the catcher that came
- 15:17Speaker 2: out the third with Leen Rosario and all the gear.
- 15:19Speaker 2: And I said, this is who I'm making my move on.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And I got two stolen bases for it.
- 15:23Speaker 1: That's amazing. That's that's your ringoun.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's all what was going through my head
- 15:28Speaker 2: in real time.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I love it.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I love it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: No, God, let's see what else we got. Oh, so
- 15:33Speaker 1: you have more than eight years of service time, right? Yeah?
- 15:38Speaker 1: Do you have a golden ticket?
- 15:41Speaker 2: You gotta have. You gotta have at least ten to
- 15:43Speaker 2: get the goat. Okay, yeah, it's ten for the gold
- 15:46Speaker 2: you have. Yeah, I got the.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Okay, you got it. Have you used it yet?
- 15:51Speaker 2: No? Oh? I mean I haven't. I haven't been back
- 15:55Speaker 2: to a game, you know, since I've been retired. But
- 15:58Speaker 2: you know, I still got some friends. I wouldn't ask them.
- 16:00Speaker 2: They got to pay taxes. But if I wanted to
- 16:02Speaker 2: go to a game, I think it gets me and
- 16:04Speaker 2: one other person.
- 16:05Speaker 1: In m I think you get the best tickets left
- 16:08Speaker 1: of it available.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty cool to have program. It's a
- 16:12Speaker 2: thick card too, Yeah, that would be pretty.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Cool in wallet. Yeah, it's just a yeah, you.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Know, it's cool. I got it, I got it packed up.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Nobody knows where it is.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Well, have to see if we can get you to
- 16:24Speaker 1: use that P and C sometime coming up here soon, so.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I shouldn't have to use it there. I might have
- 16:31Speaker 2: to call cut or anybody on the team.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Yeah than that, Yeah, they.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Probably give better seats than what might be available, because
- 16:39Speaker 2: you know, if the fans is coming out, I'm not
- 16:42Speaker 2: trying to be up at the top. Put me with
- 16:44Speaker 2: the family section.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. I love it. Who
- 16:48Speaker 1: is your toughest at that against in Major League Baseball?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Man? I think I don't know toughest at bat? And
- 16:57Speaker 2: I had this guy, Josh Callmenter. He was with the Diamondbacks,
- 17:01Speaker 2: and he had this funky release, and I wouldn't really
- 17:04Speaker 2: call him like a my toughest at bat. But I
- 17:07Speaker 2: had a game where I had three straight strikeouts on
- 17:10Speaker 2: like it was like twenty pitchers. I either foiled the
- 17:12Speaker 2: ball off or swinging straight through it, and I'm like,
- 17:15Speaker 2: he was throwing eighty seven, eighty eight, you know, and
- 17:19Speaker 2: guys were like, man, you used to see in ninety four.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, but he's thrown directly over. Yeah, some
- 17:24Speaker 2: of them accidentally cut like nothing uncomfortable. It was just, man,
- 17:29Speaker 2: how am I swinging? He threw like invisibles, like in
- 17:31Speaker 2: vis heaters, that's what we called him.
- 17:33Speaker 1: You brought up this picture. I think it was after
- 17:36Speaker 1: we were we were done recording one night and I
- 17:39Speaker 1: looked up clips of him after.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Throwing at Nasty.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It's unfair.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Now if he threw like ninety five, it wouldn't
- 17:48Speaker 2: have been fair.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, he went yeah because he was a reliever, right.
- 17:53Speaker 2: No, he was a starter. He might have got moved
- 17:55Speaker 2: to the bullpen, but yeah, he was a starter. Okay, Yeah,
- 17:58Speaker 2: I faced him in the Fall League and then when
- 17:59Speaker 2: it got to the big leagues, so trust me, I
- 18:02Speaker 2: was familiar with him. Like this dude is awkward.
- 18:05Speaker 1: All right. So let's say you're walking up to the
- 18:07Speaker 1: play to face right now, what walk up song are
- 18:10Speaker 1: you gonna go with?
- 18:11Speaker 2: In twenty six my og walk up song that always
- 18:15Speaker 2: did My first song was Frankie Beverly and Maze Before
- 18:18Speaker 2: I Let Go. That was my walkout song song number one,
- 18:21Speaker 2: no matter where I went.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So that's not the same stepping in the play without that.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Oh no, that that that's a feel good song that
- 18:28Speaker 2: that gets the day right. And Frankie Beverly and Maze
- 18:31Speaker 2: before I Let Go, That's it.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Do you ever have any teammates with like a weird
- 18:35Speaker 1: or awkward walk up song that you guys would like
- 18:38Speaker 1: give them craft.
- 18:39Speaker 2: For guys changed walk up songs so much. Yeah, but
- 18:45Speaker 2: we I know we had some that we would just
- 18:48Speaker 2: you know, guys were like, man, I guess this song
- 18:49Speaker 2: gets him ready, you know, like you know, and sometimes
- 18:53Speaker 2: you'll be on the field and hear other people's other
- 18:55Speaker 2: teams and you're be like, yeah, that ain't it. But
- 18:57Speaker 2: you know what it's like, Well it it ain't me
- 18:59Speaker 2: walking up to hit, you know. But then some guys
- 19:02Speaker 2: you hear some songs and you're like, oh, yeah, that's
- 19:04Speaker 2: that one got me ready to make a play on
- 19:06Speaker 2: you. You better not hit it my way?
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it. What did the off season look
- 19:11Speaker 1: like for you as a player, Like, what if you
- 19:13Speaker 1: were an MLB player right now? Like, what would this
- 19:16Speaker 1: week look like.
- 19:16Speaker 2: For you, uh, working out five days a week hitting
- 19:21Speaker 2: or you know, working out hitting every day. I got kids,
- 19:25Speaker 2: so that would be going around dropping the kids off
- 19:29Speaker 2: of school. That's what they used to do, drop them
- 19:30Speaker 2: off for school, or get my lift, go hit, eat, shower,
- 19:34Speaker 2: go pick the kids up from school and get ready
- 19:36Speaker 2: for whatever they they got with its volleyball, dance, gymnastics,
- 19:40Speaker 2: do it all again until we leave right around Valentine's Day.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Love it and let's see what else. Yeah, what was
- 19:49Speaker 1: it like being a free agent? What was that process?
- 19:52Speaker 2: Like?
- 19:53Speaker 1: The uncertainty or it's.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Definitely uncertainty, especially the times that I was a free agent,
- 19:59Speaker 2: because my first year free agent was the year that
- 20:02Speaker 2: a lot of signings happened late. It was almost like
- 20:05Speaker 2: a freeze. Yeah. And then my second year free agency,
- 20:11Speaker 2: I was coming off of injury. So I mean there
- 20:13Speaker 2: I was like, I'm gonna see what's the best fit
- 20:16Speaker 2: for me. So that wasn't really like a waiting game
- 20:19Speaker 2: because teams were kind of trying to They knew I
- 20:22Speaker 2: was coming off of surgery, so you know, they were
- 20:23Speaker 2: like kind of low risk, you know, if he's healthy,
- 20:27Speaker 2: and that's when I went to spring training with Philly
- 20:28Speaker 2: the first time, then COVID happened, ended up making my
- 20:31Speaker 2: way to the Nationals, and then didn't really touch free
- 20:34Speaker 2: agency again until we had the lockout because after the Nationals,
- 20:38Speaker 2: I resigned with them before free agency and they had
- 20:41Speaker 2: traded to Oakland and then that's when the lockout happened.
- 20:44Speaker 2: And literally as soon as the lockout was up, I
- 20:47Speaker 2: think that's when I signed with the White Sox. There
- 20:49Speaker 2: were a couple of teams that called, but that was
- 20:51Speaker 2: uncertainty because we knew the lockout was coming, so right
- 20:54Speaker 2: up until that deadline. Once that happened, it was like
- 20:58Speaker 2: you can't talk to teams, there's no like. So that
- 21:01Speaker 2: was just like I know we're gonna play, but when
- 21:04Speaker 2: are we going to play?
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 21:06Speaker 2: And then who am I going to be playing for?
- 21:09Speaker 2: Just because conversations and communication has ceased. That was That
- 21:13Speaker 2: was probably the toughest.
- 21:14Speaker 1: The entire life was just up in the air, like baseball,
- 21:18Speaker 1: what TV? What city?
- 21:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that I'm at home in the spring. This is weird. Yeah,
- 21:24Speaker 2: that's what it was.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so strange. And then uh, final question for
- 21:29Speaker 1: you and I, Uh, what's it? What's Josh Sharrison up
- 21:31Speaker 1: to right now, what are you were you doing to
- 21:34Speaker 1: keep yourself busy?
- 21:35Speaker 2: Now? Daddy duty, husband duty, My daughters. My oldest daughter
- 21:41Speaker 2: does volleyball and dance, both travel and at her school.
- 21:46Speaker 2: She's playing basketball. Were down in our last two weeks.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I'm the head coach, so I'm head coach of sixth
- 21:51Speaker 2: grade girls basketball. I'm a dance dad. I'm a volleyball dad.
- 21:54Speaker 2: And then my youngest daughter she does gymnastics in full
- 21:57Speaker 2: time dance. So trust me, they keep me busy. I'm
- 22:00Speaker 2: I'm uber daddy, coach, daddy, chefs dad, yeah, husband, everything
- 22:07Speaker 2: you know. People say you making up for miss time,
- 22:10Speaker 2: and I don't think you can make up for miss time.
- 22:12Speaker 2: You just make the most of what you got.
