- 0:02Hello and welcome to He's Hot, but something's off.
- 0:07You know, before I start every podcast, I have to take a second
- 0:09to think about what podcast am I recording today and which button
- 0:13I should press for the intro music.
- 0:16I've got this podcast recorder in front of me.
- 0:19It's odd camera shot and it's got buttons for sound effects or
- 0:24whatever you want to record onto them.
- 0:26They've got the different intro music for the three different
- 0:30podcasts that I record every week.
- 0:34Anyways, welcome to He's Hot, but Something's Off.
- 0:37This is where I talk about whatever I want and I was at the
- 0:42gym. It's Wednesday as I'm recording
- 0:44this. This goes on Thursday.
- 0:47I was at the gym yesterday. On Tuesday.
- 0:49It was supposed to be my gym day.
- 0:51It took my day off and it was a pretty good gym day and I was
- 0:57supposed to take today off, but yesterday went really well and I
- 1:03didn't feel like not going. I just felt like going to the
- 1:07gym. This morning, even if I wasn't
- 1:08going to do a lot, I woke up and I felt like I wanted to go to
- 1:14the gym, which doesn't happen all the time when I wake up.
- 1:17I'm not really a morning person so I just went with it.
- 1:19I was thinking, OK, go to the gym, we don't have to do a lot.
- 1:22We'll just do whatever we feel like.
- 1:24It's more than we planned for by not get some exercising.
- 1:28And last night I had a dream of not a sexual sort.
- 1:36You know, sometimes you have sex dreams.
- 1:38It wasn't like that, but sometimes I'll get a dream where
- 1:42for some reason there are a lot of hot guys wherever this dream
- 1:46is happening. I was in some sort of building
- 1:49in my it seemed like I was in college.
- 1:52It wasn't a building I recognized from my actual
- 1:54college days, but it felt like I was in college and I was in some
- 1:59sort of building on campus. It wasn't a class or like a
- 2:03lecture hall or anything. It was like, I don't know, some
- 2:06building. And then there were there were
- 2:09hot guys everywhere. So that's weird.
- 2:14Anyways, I went to the gym, I have my contacts in which I
- 2:20don't always wear contacts at the gym.
- 2:21But since switching to this new gym, I've been putting my
- 2:24contacts in because it's much larger gym.
- 2:27I don't know where all the equipment is, but mainly it's to
- 2:30check out all that guys. There are a lot of attractive
- 2:32guys at this gym. So there's a lot more people at
- 2:35the gym as well. So I finally signed up for this
- 2:39gym like permanently. I've been on the free trial with
- 2:42them for like a whole month. It got extended twice.
- 2:45We don't need to get into why it's, it's really not anything
- 2:49worth talking about. But I finally signed up at this
- 2:53gym and I'm there today and for some reason I was just warming
- 2:59up. I was on the treadmill.
- 3:00Usually I'll go on the treadmill for like 10 minutes just
- 3:03walking. My back is still not 100% yet
- 3:06after hurting it last week. So I'm taking a little bit easy,
- 3:12but I'm on the treadmill. I'm just walking, just warming
- 3:15up a little bit. And as you're walking on the
- 3:17treadmill, you know, you're kind of like looking around.
- 3:20I'm not usually on my phone. I'm just kind of looking around
- 3:23when I'm on the treadmill. And I was starting to find guys
- 3:29attractive that maybe normally I wouldn't find them as
- 3:34attractive. You know, sometimes you kind of
- 3:39feel like you're in heat, maybe not like a lot of heat, but I
- 3:44felt like, OK, these are guys that maybe I usually wouldn't
- 3:49give a second or third look, but I was giving some guys a second
- 3:53or third. I'm like, I don't know if that's
- 3:55usually the type of guy I would be checking out.
- 4:00So while as a treadmill, I was like, we might be in heat right
- 4:02now. I think today at the gym,
- 4:06usually when I'm at the gym, I'm, I'm always looking at the
- 4:09gym anyways, I'm, I like the eye candy.
- 4:12That's fine. It doesn't really distract me
- 4:14from my workouts. When I'm actually in the middle
- 4:17of a set, I'm like usually very focused.
- 4:20It's usually like in between sets when you're resting, you
- 4:23know, and that's fine. Today though, it was hard to
- 4:27concentrate on actually working out.
- 4:29I did most of the exercises that I wanted to do the day before
- 4:35and because I wasn't planning to go today and that's on my lower
- 4:39back, the doctor told me to lay off the lower body exercises for
- 4:43right now, at least for like another week or so while it he
- 4:47was backed up. So I was limited on the number
- 4:51of exercises I could do. So I was like didn't have a ton
- 4:56of exercises to get through. But then also it's just there
- 5:00were more than the, the, I was checking out a lot of people
- 5:03today. There's this one guy, there's
- 5:07this one guy there was like a couple weeks ago.
- 5:09I went in the morning, got there like before 10:00, which is like
- 5:13a little early for me. Got there and I just gone to the
- 5:16locker room and there's this guy that was just like wearing only
- 5:20a towel, like darker skin. He's like very ripped, like
- 5:22very, very fit looking 6 pack packs and everything.
- 5:27And I was like, oh wow, he's really hot.
- 5:29Today when I went into the locker room, I think it's the
- 5:32same guy. He had just came out of the
- 5:35sauna or something. And he, I think it's the same
- 5:38guy or like a very similar looking guy just wearing a
- 5:41towel. And I swore he was like suddenly
- 5:44checking me out, which is not unusual at a gym this close to
- 5:47West Hollywood. OK, there are a lot of gays in
- 5:49there. I'm still enjoying that.
- 5:50I can't tell whether the guys are gay or straight.
- 5:53It's it makes the guys extra hot for some reason.
- 5:55Anyways, so I, I swear this guy was like kind of looking at me,
- 5:59not obviously, but you can tell when when someone's checking you
- 6:04out. So that was just the locker
- 6:07room. I don't do anything at the gym,
- 6:09but I don't someone sometimes people will ask, oh, is the
- 6:12steam room working? It's like, I don't know because
- 6:14I don't use the steam room. What are the showers like?
- 6:17I don't know. I was actually talking to
- 6:18someone on the cruise I was just on a couple weeks ago.
- 6:22They also go to the same gym and we're just talking.
- 6:24And I just said, oh, I'm on a trial right now, but I'll
- 6:27probably end up joining. And he's like, yeah, the the
- 6:32shower area is not like the absolute most like kept the most
- 6:37pristine all the time, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 6:40And I was telling him about, oh, I don't usually shower blah,
- 6:42blah. But then his point was, and he
- 6:44makes it become, well, you're going to pay all this money.
- 6:46Like, you should at least see what the facilities are like
- 6:50because you're paying money for it.
- 6:51Not that you have to use it all the time, but at least like know
- 6:54where stuff is and, you know, and it's like, OK, that's
- 6:56actually a pretty good point. But yeah, I was very distracted
- 7:00today is basically my point. I felt like this is so rare,
- 7:05exceedingly rare. I felt like I was at the gym
- 7:07more to look at people today than to exercise.
- 7:11I don't think I did. I don't think I worked out very
- 7:13hard today. And I was, it wasn't really
- 7:15supposed to be a gym day. I don't really have anything
- 7:17lined up to be working on. It was, it's just one of those
- 7:21days where like I'm in a little bit of heat.
- 7:23I'm having, I'm a little injured, so I can't really have
- 7:26sex right now. I guess I can do other things,
- 7:29but I don't really want to either.
- 7:33So that was neither here nor there, but I, I just wanted to
- 7:37let you know, yeah, I had a interesting day at the gym.
- 7:39It's just so rare that I'm at the gym and yeah, I I wasn't
- 7:43really working out. So anyways, back to work now.
- 7:47A couple of things I want to plug.
- 7:51I've been very busy with just Joey Travels, my one person
- 7:54travel agency. There's a bunch of stuff that's
- 7:55launching. If you listen to the most recent
- 7:58episode of the Gay Cruise and Travel podcast with me, Just
- 8:01Joey T at the beginning of that, I kind of explained all the
- 8:05stuff that I'm launching. So if you haven't gone and
- 8:09followed my Just Joey Travels Instagram account, I would
- 8:13really appreciate just giving it a follow.
- 8:16I really want to get to like 1K. I'm at about 800 followers
- 8:20there. It's a pretty new account,
- 8:21obviously, even if you're not really interested in like travel
- 8:26and stuff. I really appreciate your support
- 8:30with a follow. And it doesn't cost any money.
- 8:33And you can mute that account if you don't want to see any posts
- 8:36from it. But I would really, really
- 8:37appreciate your support. Speaking of business endeavours,
- 8:42I think I'm going to actually, I'm actually going to post
- 8:46something pretty soon, but I should recorded a few things for
- 8:51a magnet, which is my skin care line.
- 8:53I'm going to be really honest with you guys.
- 8:56I, I get waves of working on something and then I have like
- 9:04peaks and valleys of when I want to work on something and when I
- 9:06don't want to work on something, which is really not great when
- 9:08you're running a business. So there was, I'm current on
- 9:11this waiver like I just really want to work on just Joey
- 9:13travels like all in full time everyday, which is like not
- 9:18necessarily a bad thing, but that takes over me wanting to
- 9:21work on the other businesses and I'd have something recorded that
- 9:26I'm actually going to do it today.
- 9:28Kind of sort of felt like this morning, well, maybe I'll work
- 9:31on this thing today. And if I feel like working on
- 9:33something, I have to, that's something that I haven't been
- 9:35working on in a while that I know I kind of need to work on.
- 9:38I need to seize it and just like grab it by the scruff and just
- 9:41do it. If I feel like doing anything
- 9:43that needs to be done that I haven't felt like doing in a
- 9:44while, I need to just like seize the opportunity.
- 9:47So today is on those days, I actually recorded something from
- 9:49Magne and it's basically a founder's story.
- 9:53I want to tell the story of like why I started this company a
- 9:56little bit like the values and like the philosophy and how
- 9:58things were set up. And it's just me sitting in
- 10:00front of a camera. And if you look at the Hello
- 10:05Magne account, there's nothing that much activity on it, to be
- 10:09really honest, because I've been so like engrossed in just Joey
- 10:14travels and like I am, I'm working so much on that.
- 10:20It's kind of taken over pretty much all of my hours, my working
- 10:25hours basically. So I'm trying to find maybe like
- 10:28a bit of a better balance. I feel like working on something
- 10:32and then sometimes I just not feel like not working on it.
- 10:35I don't know where that comes from, but I feel like a little
- 10:38need a little bit more of like a consistent stick to itiveness.
- 10:42So I'm going to dip a little bit more, kind of force myself to
- 10:47push myself a little bit back into the hollow magnet.
- 10:50You know, the skin care line was supposed to be like my main
- 10:53thing, like years ago when I when I was planning that out,
- 10:56when the travel thing wasn't even on the radar.
- 10:59Now I feel like the travel thing I enjoyed so much more just to
- 11:04be really honest, not that the skin care thing is like a
- 11:07complete flop, but it's as it's a much more difficult business.
- 11:12But I feel like I in my mind, the mindset is now I'm going to
- 11:18treat the skin care thing as something that's like a side
- 11:22hustle, which is like in a way, ridiculous to say given like
- 11:27everything I know about like the history of that business and how
- 11:29it started. And then the just Joey Travis is
- 11:33now kind of sort of like my main focus and I want to make the
- 11:37skin care thing more fun that it is because it's a lot of like
- 11:40not fun things you have to do to set up that type of
- 11:44manufacturing physical goods type of a business.
- 11:47There is so much complexity and non fun parts to like logistics
- 11:55and supply chain and managing sales and the marketing aspect
- 12:00of it. I'm sure some people enjoy it
- 12:02and love it and that's kind of their cup of tea.
- 12:05Sometimes you find out the hard way something isn't as much fun
- 12:09as you think it is. I think that's just like
- 12:12throughout life. I took a two week acting class.
- 12:16I've not talked too much about this.
- 12:18When I was 16, it was summer break in high school and I took
- 12:25this two week acting class at the Vancouver Film School VFS
- 12:31when I was still living up in Canada. 16 doesn't sound like
- 12:35that young, but I always feel like emotionally I was always a
- 12:41few years behind what my actual physical age in terms of like
- 12:49the emotional maturity in a way, maybe a little bit like my
- 12:53mental maturity. Not that I was like immature and
- 12:55I was like doing stupid things, but yeah, I felt like, yeah, I
- 13:00was physically 16, but I didn't internally quite feel like a 16
- 13:05year old. Not that I was acting childish,
- 13:07but like, there's certain things you realize and just like the
- 13:09way you perceive the world. Anyways, yeah, I took this class
- 13:14and I realized, you know what? I'm not good at this.
- 13:19Sometimes you have to try something else for yourself to
- 13:21really know it. Is this it for you?
- 13:24There's no amount of reading or watching or researching
- 13:28something. And it was a little bit like
- 13:31that with my major in college. I went into first year
- 13:38engineering. That's what I applied for.
- 13:41And 1st year engineering at this this college that I went to, it
- 13:45was the same for all the different disciplines of
- 13:47engineering. And then at the end of the first
- 13:49year, so I kind of do a little bit of everything the first year
- 13:52of engineering and then for the second year, that's when you
- 13:57start specializing. So at the end of the first year,
- 14:00you basically put in your first, second, third choice for which
- 14:03specialization you want to major in for your degree.
- 14:07So that's like electrical engineering, computer
- 14:10engineering, civil engineering, like chemical engineering, all
- 14:12the different disciplines. My first choice was physical,
- 14:18sorry, mechanical engineering. I thought I wanted to be a
- 14:21mechanical engineer. You know, I've always had this
- 14:23affinity for like cars and things like that.
- 14:27To be really honest, though, I don't know how much I thought
- 14:30that out. Again, this is where like, you
- 14:32know, I'm like 18 or 19 now. Again, like the the kind of like
- 14:36emotional mental maturity, I feel like lags a few years.
- 14:40I felt like when you're 18 or 19, you're just old enough to be
- 14:43able to think through a decision like this really seriously,
- 14:46right. But anyways, not that they
- 14:47didn't give it any thought, but my first choice was mechanical
- 14:51engineering and I didn't get it. My second choice was computer
- 14:55engineering, which I did get in retrospect that it was much
- 15:01better. It worked really well that I got
- 15:03the computer engineering choice, the second choice and not the
- 15:06first choice because I end up being, you know, like in IT and
- 15:10stuff like that. And a computer degree is much is
- 15:13actually outlined with that. A mechanical engineering degree
- 15:15would not have been. I found out that I'm not very
- 15:18good with physics. You know, physics class you
- 15:21take, I'm not very good at that. I was pretty good at physics
- 15:24class in high school and 1st year physics I was like, OK, and
- 15:27maybe that's why I thought, oh, I wanted to do that, but I
- 15:30really like cars. Anyways, it didn't work out.
- 15:34Mechanical engineering is a little harder to get into
- 15:37business, higher demand I think. But I'm actually looking back on
- 15:41it, super glad that I didn't get that first choice.
- 15:45And then second year, OK, I got computer engineering.
- 15:48Second year computer engineering is actually 90% of the same
- 15:52courses as electrical engineering now.
- 15:55They're very different things. I remember second year
- 15:57engineering, I just take all these electrical courses.
- 16:01You know, you'd be like in a lab with some circuit boards and
- 16:04then with some tools and all that kind of stuff.
- 16:06That was not my tea. Did not like it.
- 16:09I limped through the electrical engineering courses that I had
- 16:13to take. Almost flunked second year
- 16:16statistics. It wasn't until the 3rd and 4th
- 16:21year that I started getting like decent grades.
- 16:25In college where I started 3rd and 4th year you start taking
- 16:30more of the computer engineering courses where it diverges more
- 16:34from like the electrical engineering side of that degree.
- 16:38Unless I got into the computer type courses, I got decent
- 16:42grades. But you know, even after taking
- 16:45that, even after getting better grades and feeling more
- 16:48comfortable with the computer specific courses in like third
- 16:51and fourth year, it was after the till end of the third year
- 16:55actually thinking, you know what?
- 16:56I don't want to do software. I don't want to be like a
- 17:00software engineer. You know, I don't, I, this is, I
- 17:04don't like it. Not that I hate it, but I was
- 17:07not super good at it, writing code and stuff.
- 17:10And that's where I have so much respect for software engineers.
- 17:15You know, when you've tried something, you know first hand
- 17:17how hard it is, you start to have more respect for the people
- 17:21that can do it well and well enough to make a career,
- 17:25successful career out of it. So for me it was it was software
- 17:29engineering, some of the software engineering courses, I
- 17:32was like, oh, this is hard shit. So I basically have this
- 17:36computer engineering degree and it's technically computer
- 17:40engineering specialization in software engineering.
- 17:43So within computer engineering, you can do a couple of
- 17:46specializations. I specialized in software
- 17:47engineering. I don't know how I, I don't know
- 17:49how I got that degree. I, I can barely go now, but it
- 17:53was an extremely useful degree to have back when I graduated
- 17:57because it was like the time when tech was like really,
- 18:00really on the rise. Having a software engineering
- 18:03degree was like, it was very attractive to all tech
- 18:06companies. So definitely did help me land
- 18:10my first full time job at Google.
- 18:12So I'm thankful for how that worked out.
- 18:15But I basically spent like 6 years, I did 2 years of
- 18:18internship. I spent six years doing the
- 18:20degree to kind of find out, you know what, I I'm not good at
- 18:23software engineering. This is not what I should try to
- 18:26do full time. This is not the career that I
- 18:29should try to embark on that did enough coding in for a school to
- 18:34know that. And with this skin care thing,
- 18:38having tried it, it's trying. I made my piece that, you know
- 18:44what, this is maybe not something you can do as a
- 18:47career. You know, this is not something
- 18:50that might be successful in the traditional sense of like
- 18:54profits and loss. But I've learned a lot from it.
- 18:58You know, it's fine for something to change its purpose
- 19:01in your life. At one point I thought I was
- 19:04going to be an actor. I tried acting.
- 19:06I'm horrible. I felt like, I feel like I'm a
- 19:09better actor now than when I was 16 and doing that class.
- 19:13But I was 16. I didn't know it.
- 19:15I literally when I was 16, I knew nothing.
- 19:17I knew nothing when I was 16. Literally nowadays, once in a
- 19:21great while, I think, you know, what, if there was like some
- 19:23sort of like little minor acting role, not in actual production,
- 19:28you know, like some like tiny minor little YouTube thing.
- 19:32I mean, I have a YouTube channel.
- 19:33I can put some whatever acting stuff onto my whatever YouTube
- 19:35channel if I wanted to. I was like, you know what, these
- 19:38days I think I can do like some tiny little thing absolutely for
- 19:42fun, completely purely for fun. And I think I would kind of
- 19:46enjoy it. I think I'm a better actor now
- 19:49than when I was 16. I took that acting class that
- 19:52summer and I did write a little bit of tiny bits of code.
- 19:56When I got into Google. I was not a software engineer
- 19:58that I was doing corporate IT for them, but I didn't, I did
- 20:01need to script and code some stuff.
- 20:03There's one thing I wrote that was like 35103 or 4000 lines of
- 20:07code and it worked and it was actually used in production at
- 20:11Google, which is kind of amazing.
- 20:13I can't even believe I I could not recreate that anyways.
- 20:17Yeah, but I think the skin care thing, you know what, I thought
- 20:19it was going to be my main thing and I think it, it just isn't.
- 20:24And I made my peace with it and I still love skin care.
- 20:29I still have. And that's why I have passion
- 20:32for it. That's why I started it.
- 20:34But once you try something, I'm also learning.
- 20:37I struggle with this a little bit.
- 20:38It was so difficult to get it going that I was just like kind
- 20:43of going through the motions. And sometimes when you turn a
- 20:46hobby into a job, like a proper job, a business or like a
- 20:51career, the fun goes away. And I'm realizing, I think with
- 20:55skin care, that's true. So I'm going to make it as fun
- 21:00as possible to do and try to take the pressure off of myself
- 21:04to be like, oh, this is a business.
- 21:06It has to turn a profit. You have to have lots of
- 21:08customers, you have to have lots of sales because it's sapping so
- 21:12much fun from it. That is making me not want to
- 21:16work on it at all. So I'm hoping that if I just
- 21:20make it, you know what, like don't worry about the numbers,
- 21:24don't worry about what the startup cost was because that's
- 21:27in. Just try to have the maximum
- 21:30amount of fun with it and remember why you started doing
- 21:34it, which is because you have this passion.
- 21:37So with this little thing that I recorded, which is like how the
- 21:40company started, you know, when I started all all those, I still
- 21:44have the passion for it and it was still really fun to do.
- 21:47I'm just trying to get back to that fun that I had starting
- 21:50magnet. So yeah, that's something I'm
- 21:53going to. I'm going to try to edit it
- 21:54today and we'll see when it goes up.
- 21:55It'll be on the magnet channel. But I'll also cross tag it to my
- 21:58just Joey T, my regular Instagram.
- 22:00Yeah, but I'm having so much fun with just Joey Travels.
- 22:05Actually. I'm constantly like, I'm
- 22:09surprised how much fun I'm having with it.
- 22:11I'm constantly thinking of like new ways to market it, which was
- 22:16which is one of the problems with Magnet.
- 22:18The skin care line is like marketing the skin care is very
- 22:21different than marketing a travel agency.
- 22:25I keep thinking of all these like what?
- 22:27I think it's pretty good ideas to like increase the reach of
- 22:31just Joey Travels. But yeah, they're very, two very
- 22:34different businesses. But yeah, that's, that's how
- 22:38business is going. And I'm learning, I'm learning
- 22:43so much. I've learned so much about
- 22:44myself the last few years being self-employed A surprising
- 22:48amount. Some of the things I'm learning
- 22:50about myself, it's like kind of shocking really.
- 22:53The roller coaster ride of starting your own business.
- 22:57It's, it's insane. As someone who has a massive
- 23:00fear of, of heights, like I can never actually go on an actual
- 23:02roller coaster because I, I, I just wouldn't have fun.
- 23:07I would probably just like black on a faint.
- 23:10Like it would be it, it's not an enjoyable thing for me.
- 23:13The closer I've been to like an actual roller coaster.
- 23:17You know those Kitty roller coaster things.
- 23:19It's not an actual roller coaster, but like I've been to
- 23:22Disneyland like once with some friends years ago.
- 23:24They have some like kiddie level rides.
- 23:27It's not a roller coaster. It's just it's like tiny little
- 23:30ride. And I think that's as far as I
- 23:32got. I can't go on an actual roller
- 23:33coaster because I have such a fear of heights.
- 23:37I have such a fear of falling. It would just not be enjoyable.
- 23:40Like the the so-called thrill of it.
- 23:43Like it, it just doesn't do anything for me.
- 23:47So I don't know how we went from me just Googling guys to the gym
- 23:51to roller coasters and having my college degree in between.
- 23:56You know, this is the kind of sometimes once in a great while
- 23:59I'll talk about something really off kilter on this podcast and
- 24:02then people will comment like, why are you talking about this?
- 24:06However, that is when I'm talking something about
- 24:08something So left feel like Motorsports, which I know none
- 24:12of you like or know anything. We're not going to talk about
- 24:16Motorsports, but, you know, sometimes I sometimes I want to
- 24:21talk about cars, but I don't because I know you guys don't
- 24:23listen to it. Yeah, but this is my podcast
- 24:26where I talk about anything I want.
- 24:28I never have a topic. When I turn the camera on, I'll
- 24:32have some idea of what I want to talk about.
- 24:35So I, I came in today wanting to talk about my gym stuff.
- 24:38There are a lot of hot guys in my gym, though.
- 24:41OK, we'll, we'll just end on that thought.
- 24:43I've been, it was a year ago. I had some conversations with
- 24:48some of my Patreon subscribers and we all decided collectively
- 24:52that it's, it's achy and gross and not right to take photos of
- 25:02other people at the gym. So sometimes we get into deep
- 25:05conversations on the Patreon. It's not all just, I was going
- 25:08to, I was going to say something I don't.
- 25:10It's not, it's not, it's not all like shirtless selfies.
- 25:13Actually, I don't have to post a lot of shirtless selfies.
- 25:15Don't, don't subscribe to my Patreon thing.
- 25:17And there's shirtless selfies on there.
- 25:18Yeah, but there are a lot of hot guys in my gym.
- 25:20So that's supposed that was supposed to be the topic today.
- 25:23There you go. Well, please go follow my Just
- 25:26Joey Travels Instagram account. If there's one way you can
- 25:31support me that's completely free, it's by following the Just
