- 0:00Speaker 1: When did you see a dead body? Why we bring
- 0:02Speaker 1: it up? One, because it's spooky season. Two, because it's
- 0:04Speaker 1: in the news.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Yeah, at Disneyland just yesterday, there was like an emergency
- 0:08Speaker 2: call about a man in distress, a 65-year-old man right
- 0:11Speaker 2: outside the entrance of Disneyland. And when the cops finally
- 0:13Speaker 2: showed up, he was already dead.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Do you think there's foul play?
- 0:17Speaker 2: They don't think there's foul play. They thought that the
- 0:19Speaker 2: man was actually homeless.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Oh. Yeah.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Well, we want to know when did you see a
- 0:24Speaker 1: dead body? Preeti, good morning.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Good morning.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Good morning. When did you see a dead body?
- 0:31Speaker 5: So we own a restaurant in the valley. It's been
- 0:35Speaker 5: a few years now, but there was a body that
- 0:39Speaker 5: was out in the parking lot, and we found it
- 0:43Speaker 5: when we were leaving for the night.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Well, first of all, what restaurant do you have?
- 0:49Speaker 5: It's an Indian restaurant, Saffron Indian Bistro in Glendale.
- 0:53Speaker 6: Oh, Saffron.
- 0:54Speaker 7: Right on.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Okay. All right.
- 0:58Speaker 5: And so, yeah, we were leaving for the night and
- 1:00Speaker 5: our server was walking out. So I didn't want her
- 1:02Speaker 5: to walk alone. So I said, okay, let's pull up
- 1:04Speaker 5: the car and I'll drive you over to your car.
- 1:07Speaker 5: And so we pulled up and there was a car
- 1:10Speaker 5: and it was sitting there. It was a little bit
- 1:11Speaker 5: like odd. And then eventually my husband came out and
- 1:14Speaker 5: we were like, hi, did you need help, sir? Like,
- 1:17Speaker 5: are you okay?
- 1:18Speaker 1: But no answer.
- 1:20Speaker 5: And then when we called the police, they came, they
- 1:22Speaker 5: said that he had probably passed away like hours earlier.
- 1:24Speaker 8: Oh, that's terrible. you need help do you need a
- 1:28Speaker 8: cake would you like to try the chicken satay two
- 1:31Speaker 8: for one.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Well I love you guys so thank you so much
- 1:36Speaker 5: for making our mornings great have a.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Great day thanks for calling in Christy when did you
- 1:41Speaker 1: see a dead body.
- 1:44Speaker 3: This was about 25 years ago and I lived in
- 1:46Speaker 3: Anthem and I was driving down I-17 towards Phoenix and
- 1:50Speaker 3: I looked on the side of the road and there
- 1:52Speaker 3: was a dead body face down it wasn't moving I'm
- 1:55Speaker 3: like is it really dead No movement, nothing. Face in
- 1:58Speaker 3: the dirt. And I wanted to drive around to go
- 2:01Speaker 3: look at it, but I had my kids with me
- 2:04Speaker 3: at the time, and I didn't want to, like, traumatize them.
- 2:07Speaker 3: So I went home, and I'm like, I wonder if
- 2:08Speaker 3: someone's really dead. And then that night on the news,
- 2:11Speaker 3: they said dead bodies found on the side of the
- 2:13Speaker 3: road next to I-17 in Anthem. Wow.
- 2:17Speaker 8: Oh, my gosh.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You don't know why or what happened? No.
- 2:21Speaker 3: They think someone dropped his body off there and didn't
- 2:24Speaker 3: kill him there, but I never found anything else about it.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But now I'm going to research it.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 8: Well, thank you very much. Don, tell us when you
- 2:34Speaker 8: saw a dead body. When did you see a dead body, Don?
- 2:37Speaker 7: Well, I'm a retired firefighter medic, so I saw quite
- 2:39Speaker 7: a few in my career. But my last year, this
- 2:42Speaker 7: was back in 2014, I lived in Montana, and we
- 2:44Speaker 7: got a call from to a smoking log in the
- 2:49Speaker 7: middle of the interstate. Back there, we don't have freeways.
- 2:51Speaker 7: We have interstates. So it was I-90, and we pulled
- 2:55Speaker 7: up on scene, and fair enough, there was a log smoking.
- 2:58Speaker 7: It was midnight. My buddy and I got out, and
- 3:00Speaker 7: I walked up to it and looked at it, and
- 3:02Speaker 7: I'm like, yeah, it's a log. And he goes, kick it.
- 3:04Speaker 7: So I kicked it, and as soon as I kicked it,
- 3:06Speaker 7: the whites of the eyes popped up and looked at me.
- 3:09Speaker 1: The what?
- 3:11Speaker 7: Totally, it was like a burnt marshmallow. Not a log.
- 3:16Speaker 9: And.
- 3:17Speaker 7: No, it was a person. And a couple of years later,
- 3:21Speaker 7: come to find out it was a hit by the mob.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Oh, it was a guy. It was a guy alive.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And then he died like you.
- 3:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 7: When I kicked him, his eyes opened up.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Holy smokes.
- 3:32Speaker 6: That's going to haunt you even as an EMT.
- 3:34Speaker 8: That's going to haunt me now.
- 3:35Speaker 2: After finding out it was a hit by the mob,
- 3:37Speaker 2: did you at all like get worried they were going.
- 3:39Speaker 10: To come after you for finding the body or anything
- 3:42Speaker 10: like that?
- 3:43Speaker 7: Because my uncle was actually a hitman for the Gambino
- 3:46Speaker 7: crime family in New York back in the 60s.
- 3:47Speaker 6: Oh, well, you've got all kinds of good stories for us.
- 3:48Speaker 8: Okay, you're protected.
- 3:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 6: No, I didn't worry about it at all.
- 3:53Speaker 7: I mean, it's just, you know, something that happens. Actually,
- 3:57Speaker 7: in Montana, the mafia tends to, or they used to,
- 3:59Speaker 7: they travel from New York, Chicago, or from Seattle or
- 4:03Speaker 7: Vegas up to Montana and drop a body off anywhere.
- 4:05Speaker 7: Kind of like they do in Lake Mead in the barrels,
- 4:07Speaker 7: with the bodies in the barrels out there.
- 4:08Speaker 6: Yeah, because the lake is low, they're finding them all now.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah.
- 4:13Speaker 7: I mean, they do it all the time out there.
- 4:15Speaker 8: What? Yeah. They're finding barrels of people in Lake Mead?
- 4:21Speaker 6: You know this, John Jay.
- 4:22Speaker 9: Come on.
- 4:23Speaker 1: No.
- 4:23Speaker 7: You didn't know that?
- 4:24Speaker 8: Not barrels of people.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Like a barrel with a person in it?
- 4:27Speaker 6: Yeah. Dexter style.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Yep.
- 4:30Speaker 7: No, they just identified one of the guys they found
- 4:33Speaker 7: a couple years ago when it drawed down, when it
- 4:35Speaker 7: got really low. Some guy, he had a gambling debt
- 4:37Speaker 7: with a mob. He was from Alabama.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Wow.
- 4:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Dang, dude.
- 4:42Speaker 8: That's crazy.
- 4:43Speaker 6: All right, Don.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Geez, man. Well, thanks, Don. Holy smokes.
- 4:47Speaker 6: I mean, we knew this was going to be a
- 4:48Speaker 6: dark segment. We knew.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Well, yeah. I love it. It's the perfect time of
- 4:51Speaker 1: year to do that.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Yeah, spooky season.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Layla, good morning.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Good morning, John Jay.
- 4:57Speaker 9: Hi.
- 4:57Speaker 1: When did you see a dead body, Layla?
- 5:00Speaker 4: So I used to work at LAX for an international airline.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I was a duty manager at the airport, and we
- 5:09Speaker 4: had a passenger die there. in the aircraft while I
- 5:13Speaker 4: was in the air flying from, I think it was
- 5:16Speaker 4: to LAX. And the gentleman passed natural causes. He was
- 5:20Speaker 4: an older gentleman traveling with his wife. And when the
- 5:23Speaker 4: plane landed at LAX, we had to deplane the aircraft,
- 5:26Speaker 4: but we could not move the body. And I had
- 5:28Speaker 4: to stay with the body until the authorities came to investigate.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Did you sit next to it? Like, is he in
- 5:35Speaker 1: a window seat? You sit in the middle?
- 5:38Speaker 6: Actually, he was.
- 5:38Speaker 4: He was at a window seat. I was sitting the
- 5:42Speaker 4: seat in.
- 5:43Speaker 8: Front of him facing him um well he was.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Covered so the rule is the crew they cannot touch
- 5:52Speaker 4: or move the body and anyone sitting around the body
- 5:57Speaker 4: has to remain seated in their seat if the flight
- 6:00Speaker 4: is full if the flight is full um and if
- 6:04Speaker 4: they can move passengers great but if it's a full
- 6:06Speaker 4: flight they have no choice but to stay.
- 6:08Speaker 6: Seated next to the body that's And did they? Was
- 6:11Speaker 6: that row full?
- 6:15Speaker 4: That flight was a full flight, yes.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Oh, wow. I hope they got the armrest.
- 6:20Speaker 4: And those flights are long.
- 6:21Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Those flights are long. LAX, like Tahiti to LAX, like
- 6:26Speaker 4: that's a 9, 10-hour flight. And then the flight goes
- 6:29Speaker 4: from LAX to Paris, and that's another 12 to 13 hours.
- 6:33Speaker 4: So it's a lot on a body.
- 6:36Speaker 8: Do they transfer the dead body to the next flight?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Do they got to get it home? It's a layover.
- 6:43Speaker 4: So depending what citizenship, what nationality the person is. So
- 6:49Speaker 4: in our case, it was a French national. So after
- 6:53Speaker 4: they removed the body at LAX and did the proper investigations,
- 6:58Speaker 4: and then the family made arrangements to move the body
- 7:02Speaker 4: from California back to France.
- 7:04Speaker 6: I think that would kind of mess me up if
- 7:06Speaker 6: I had to sit next to that. Yeah. Unless, of course,
- 7:09Speaker 6: you offered me more pretzels on the flight for the snack. You,
- 7:11Speaker 6: extra bag of pretzels.
- 7:12Speaker 7: Well, because don't bodies start to, like, release gases and
- 7:15Speaker 7: stuff after sitting there for a while?
- 7:17Speaker 6: I would not. Yeah, like three or four hours, you
- 7:19Speaker 6: would think it starts, you know.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I do it within minutes.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, but there's international laws and procedures. The airlines have them.
- 7:27Speaker 4: You know, everyone has to follow the same law. So, yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 6: Just unwinding in Tahiti, and then you have to fly
- 7:34Speaker 6: back under that stress.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Thanks, Layla.
- 7:36Speaker 8: Thanks for sharing that story with us. That's crazy. Rocky,
- 7:40Speaker 8: good morning.
- 7:40Speaker 1: When did you see a dead body?
- 7:43Speaker 9: Hey, just like John Jay, let me turn my Bluetooth off. Sorry,
- 7:45Speaker 9: I'm working.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Hold on. I can come back to you.
- 7:48Speaker 10: All right.
- 7:48Speaker 7: Can you hear me?
- 7:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:50Speaker 9: Hey, so, gosh dang it, my Bluetooth turned back on.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It's okay.
- 7:56Speaker 8: You sound fine.
- 7:57Speaker 6: Yeah, we got you.
- 7:58Speaker 1: There it goes.
- 7:59Speaker 11: Okay, so I was working one night. I used to
- 8:01Speaker 11: work nights on the highways, and I was working with
- 8:04Speaker 11: a gentleman, and it was our time to get off shift,
- 8:08Speaker 11: but we always have to call in before, you know,
- 8:11Speaker 11: to check the road to make sure everything's all right. Well,
- 8:13Speaker 11: I was about to leave, and they couldn't get a
- 8:15Speaker 11: hold of the guy, and so they called to see
- 8:17Speaker 11: if we could, well, if I could go out and
- 8:20Speaker 11: try to see what was going on.
- 8:21Speaker 9: Well, we found this truck in the middle of the freeway.
- 8:24Speaker 9: He was what we think trying to get some debris
- 8:27Speaker 9: off the road and a car had swerved at him
- 8:29Speaker 9: and he jumped over the inner pass to, to block
- 8:33Speaker 9: it or to get away from it. And the horrible
- 8:36Speaker 9: part was that he ended up breaking his neck and
- 8:38Speaker 9: landing in the water.
- 8:39Speaker 12: Oh my gosh.
- 8:39Speaker 9: And he had passed away that way, but I had
- 8:41Speaker 9: to find him.
- 8:42Speaker 1: God, that's terrible.
- 8:44Speaker 9: And he was about four days away from retiring.
- 8:48Speaker 6: No, man. That's terrible.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Thanks Rocky. Jen, what about you? When'd you see a
- 8:53Speaker 1: dead body?
- 8:55Speaker 10: Okay, so I decided to go get groceries before I
- 8:57Speaker 10: went and got the kids because, I don't know, I
- 9:00Speaker 10: was just being lazy. And I go to Fry's on
- 9:03Speaker 10: Main Street in Mesa, and there's ambulances. I figured somebody
- 9:06Speaker 10: passed out.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Nope.
- 9:07Speaker 4: There's a dead.
- 9:08Speaker 10: Body on the ground in front of the doors with
- 9:10Speaker 10: the sheet over it, cops standing around like it's a
- 9:13Speaker 10: normal Tuesday. So I go in, and I go shopping,
- 9:17Speaker 10: and I'm like, okay, well, I need this. And I
- 9:19Speaker 10: come back out, and they're still just standing around.
- 9:23Speaker 6: Well, they've got to wait for the coroner to show up.
- 9:24Speaker 6: They're not there.
- 9:25Speaker 8: Yeah, called Policies and Procedures. You would think they might
- 9:29Speaker 8: shut down that exit to the grocery store.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Thanks, Jen.
- 9:32Speaker 8: Speaking of fries, there's a Fry's by my house. It's
- 9:35Speaker 8: the one on Miller. You guys have been to Miller
- 9:36Speaker 8: in Indian School?
- 9:37Speaker 6: No, I know the intersection.
- 9:38Speaker 8: So there's a Fry's there, and there used to be
- 9:40Speaker 8: a yoga studio I go to. And the other day
- 9:41Speaker 8: I was driving by with my wife.
- 9:42Speaker 1: No longer a Fry's.
- 9:43Speaker 8: It's a Whole Foods. I figured that should be news.
- 9:45Speaker 8: Like a Whole Foods. I'm so excited there's one close
- 9:49Speaker 8: to me. Well, that can. But it's next to Sprouts.
- 9:52Speaker 8: Sprouts is right on that same street. And I've been
- 9:54Speaker 8: going to Sprouts a lot. That's kind of like my
- 9:56Speaker 8: go-to now. It used to be Whole Foods, but Whole
- 9:57Speaker 8: Foods was kind of a drive. Now I'm like, I
- 10:00Speaker 8: feel bad because I'm so used to Sprouts.
- 10:02Speaker 7: Right.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Such a dilemma.
- 10:03Speaker 10: They do have different things, though.
- 10:05Speaker 8: Like, oh, my wife and I were talking about it.
- 10:07Speaker 8: What is it that Whole Foods has that Sprouts doesn't
- 10:08Speaker 8: have that we don't?
- 10:09Speaker 6: Great sushi.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Sprouts has got, well, that's not true. I don't know
- 10:12Speaker 1: about their sushi.
- 10:13Speaker 6: They have it. It's not Whole Foods good.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I don't think I've done the sushi at Whole Foods.
- 10:17Speaker 6: It's amazing.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Gone. Gone. When did you see a dead body?
- 10:22Speaker 3: Hi. Yes.
- 10:23Speaker 12: I do hair. And I had to work on two
- 10:28Speaker 12: of my deceased clients. They needed cuts and styles for
- 10:30Speaker 12: their funeral.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Wow. So how did you get the second one?
- 10:34Speaker 12: They were husband and wife and they died two years apart.
- 10:39Speaker 8: Oh, wow.
- 10:41Speaker 4: That's nice.
- 10:42Speaker 12: I have another client asking. She's waiting in line for it.
- 10:44Speaker 12: I'm like, oh, gosh.
- 10:46Speaker 6: Oh, so she's alive. But once it happened, she's like,
- 10:48Speaker 6: you've got to do my hair.
- 10:50Speaker 12: Yeah, because she knew them and she thought it was
- 10:52Speaker 12: nice that I did it for them too.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Is it easier to do a dead person's hair than
- 10:55Speaker 1: it is a live person?
- 10:58Speaker 12: No, not really. And one was embalmed and one wasn't.
- 11:01Speaker 12: And I do like the ones that are embalmed instead
- 11:04Speaker 12: because the not embalmed, I watched too many scary movies
- 11:06Speaker 12: and I thought it was going to jump the whole time.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Do you put them in a chair or do you
- 11:11Speaker 1: do when they're laying down?
- 11:13Speaker 12: They lay down and they prop their head up on
- 11:15Speaker 12: a metal thing so I can kind of get as
- 11:17Speaker 12: far back as I can.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I don't know, man.
- 11:20Speaker 8: That would give me nightmares.
- 11:22Speaker 6: I mean, somebody's got to do it, I guess.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Oh, and it's somebody you know, too, and have a
- 11:26Speaker 2: good relationship with.
- 11:29Speaker 12: Yeah, I felt honored that they asked, but I freaked
- 11:31Speaker 12: out and my hands were frozen.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I bet.
- 11:34Speaker 11: Oh, my gosh.
- 11:35Speaker 8: Do you talk to them when you're doing it?
- 11:39Speaker 12: No, I talk to myself, I guess.
- 11:41Speaker 6: You're telling yourself gossip like they would be telling you.
- 11:44Speaker 8: How long does it take to do it?
- 11:45Speaker 12: No, just kind of like, this is okay. You're not
- 11:46Speaker 12: going to bite me. You're not going to. It took
- 11:48Speaker 12: about a half hour each time.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You're saying just the normal things you say. You're not
- 11:53Speaker 1: going to bite me.
- 11:54Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 6: Say that often.
- 11:55Speaker 12: You're not going to jump up and do anything.
- 11:57Speaker 6: Wow, Dawn.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Well, thanks for sharing that with us. That's different. Thank you.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Have a great day, Dawn.
- 12:01Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 12:01Speaker 12: Thank you so much.
- 12:02Speaker 6: You too.
