- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hey guys, welcome to the Almost Smous podcast. Today we
- 0:09Speaker 2: wanted to talk about Katie Thurston's wedding over the weekend.
- 0:12Speaker 2: We're so happy for her and Jeff. This was quite
- 0:14Speaker 2: a surprise, but we do want to acknowledge before we
- 0:17Speaker 2: go into the wedding details that Katie did post something
- 0:22Speaker 2: the yesterday that is disappointing news for sure. She says
- 0:27Speaker 2: that she has that her cancer may have progressed from
- 0:32Speaker 2: stage three to stage four because there are some spots
- 0:37Speaker 2: on her liver. She had them biop seed yesterday Tuesday,
- 0:43Speaker 2: and she found them on the scan last week. This
- 0:47Speaker 2: all happened in the midst of them doing a last
- 0:50Speaker 2: minute wedding.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Obviously, we just had an interview with Katie last week.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I would recommend you go back and listen to that.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Katie shares a lot of wisdom and insight and thoughts
- 0:59Speaker 3: about this whole process so far, and also really celebrates
- 1:04Speaker 3: her fiance now husband that we're going to talk about
- 1:07Speaker 3: in just second, Jeff. When it comes to Katie's current situation,
- 1:11Speaker 3: though the results are not in yet, In fact, there
- 1:16Speaker 3: is a message that Katie put out there that e
- 1:21Speaker 3: or that People Magazine shared about. And it's a text
- 1:27Speaker 3: message that Katie has or a direct message. It's on
- 1:32Speaker 3: the Booby Broadcast.
- 1:33Speaker 2: See the Booby Broadcast. I follow it. It's on Instagram.
- 1:37Speaker 2: You can if you go to her what profile, you'll
- 1:40Speaker 2: be able to figure out how to subscribe to it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It's got fifty five thousand members and basically she texts
- 1:47Speaker 2: you every day about how she's feeling or any tests
- 1:50Speaker 2: or procedures that she's had done.
- 1:53Speaker 3: The message isn't isn't long, so I'm just going to
- 1:57Speaker 3: read through it. It says my biopsy is scheduled Friday, which
- 2:01Speaker 3: would have been my treatment day. We now wait. She
- 2:06Speaker 3: and I think Katie's prior referring to her doctor, she
- 2:09Speaker 3: seemed to be leaning more on the cancer and the
- 2:11Speaker 3: liver verse optimistic. It was nothing this would put me
- 2:16Speaker 3: at stage four. Katie says, I'd love to hear from
- 2:20Speaker 3: my sisters who are in stage four in terms of
- 2:23Speaker 3: quality of life, motherhood, etc. This is the message that
- 2:29Speaker 3: Katie shared. The results are not back yet, so we
- 2:32Speaker 3: are waiting with Katie and this this did change her
- 2:37Speaker 3: treatment plan that Katie went into with us last week
- 2:40Speaker 3: and kind of what her ideal treatment plan was going
- 2:42Speaker 3: to look like. Obviously this is now changed. This is
- 2:48Speaker 3: just news that isn't just heavy. It's life stopping for Katie,
- 2:55Speaker 3: but also for us who are following along in this
- 2:59Speaker 3: journey with her, who are familiar with this journey. It's
- 3:04Speaker 3: life stopping and it makes everybody take a step back.
- 3:07Speaker 3: And we're taking a step back to be in support
- 3:10Speaker 3: of Katie as she waits for the results. And I
- 3:15Speaker 3: also just want to share a quick message and say
- 3:17Speaker 3: it's very and Katie talked about this as well, but
- 3:21Speaker 3: it is very kind of Katie to be so vulnerable
- 3:24Speaker 3: and open with all of us during this experience. She
- 3:26Speaker 3: could this is one of those we say often, you know, hey,
- 3:29Speaker 3: you went on a Raley television show. You should be
- 3:31Speaker 3: talking about your relationships and breakups and all that. This
- 3:34Speaker 3: is a moment where she could easily stay quiet, but
- 3:37Speaker 3: instead she's building a community of others who are going
- 3:40Speaker 3: through this and herself and support. And I just want
- 3:43Speaker 3: to say thank you to Katie for allowing us in
- 3:46Speaker 3: and now we wait with Katie for the results.
- 3:50Speaker 2: This is what Katie said last week about her people,
- 3:54Speaker 2: saying that she's brave.
- 3:56Speaker 4: But a lot of people say, like, you're so brave
- 3:57Speaker 4: for sharing your story, and I do appreciate that gesture,
- 4:01Speaker 4: but for me, it's also it's been it's been such
- 4:05Speaker 4: a help for me to share my story and to
- 4:07Speaker 4: have people who've been shared theirs. And so there's a
- 4:10Speaker 4: lot of people who, for their own personal reasons, choose
- 4:13Speaker 4: to battle in silence and in private, and you know
- 4:18Speaker 4: that's their own choice. But I do find something so
- 4:21Speaker 4: supportive of being part of a group, being part of
- 4:26Speaker 4: a chat, anything you can find to talk to other survivors.
- 4:31Speaker 4: It's probably been like the biggest medicine for me since
- 4:35Speaker 4: officially coming out with the public and sharing my story.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Actually, that People article is a little bit outdated because
- 4:43Speaker 2: yesterday Katie was able to go get her port placement
- 4:47Speaker 2: in and they were able to do the liver biobously
- 4:50Speaker 2: at the same time, since the radiologist could get a
- 4:53Speaker 2: good read, she said, with an ultrasound instead of a
- 4:56Speaker 2: seat skin. She said, she's tired, she's nasea, she's in pain,
- 5:00Speaker 2: she's home in resting. She's anticipating the results next week,
- 5:04Speaker 2: but she's feeling optimistic.
- 5:05Speaker 3: She said, we'll take a left turn here to talk
- 5:19Speaker 3: about what happened before all this, which is this weekend
- 5:22Speaker 3: Katie got married. We want to celebrate that here. This
- 5:26Speaker 3: is a big deal, a very exciting time. She looked
- 5:29Speaker 3: absolutely gorgeous. It's their pictures. If you go back through
- 5:34Speaker 3: and look at her social media, they will make you
- 5:37Speaker 3: smile because of the joy that is expressed on both
- 5:41Speaker 3: of their faces. This was not talked about during our
- 5:44Speaker 3: interview with Katie. She kept it a secret to everybody,
- 5:47Speaker 3: which is fine, but I'm a little sad that she
- 5:50Speaker 3: didn't talk about it here.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I like to pretend that she actually just did it
- 5:55Speaker 2: so spurred the moment that she planned it after our
- 5:58Speaker 2: last Wednesday in her with her. It's been one week
- 6:01Speaker 2: today since she talked to us, and she did an
- 6:04Speaker 2: interview with Katie with Sarah Herron of US Weekly. Not
- 6:08Speaker 2: our Sarah Harrin, but Sarah Harron, the reporter from US Weekly.
- 6:12Speaker 2: She sat down with her just around the same time
- 6:15Speaker 2: that we talked to her, and she told her that
- 6:19Speaker 2: they had just last minute said hey, parents, come fly in.
- 6:23Speaker 2: We're going to do a little backyard ceremony.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Jeff and Katie. Obviously we're talked about a lot during
- 6:29Speaker 3: our time with her, and what I picked up from
- 6:31Speaker 3: that interview with her Ashley, is that Jeff has been
- 6:34Speaker 3: not only an incredible support system, he did stop his
- 6:37Speaker 3: tour that was a global tour to be with her
- 6:41Speaker 3: during this time. As she after she first heard of
- 6:44Speaker 3: her diagnosis and found out about her diagnosis. He is,
- 6:49Speaker 3: you know, I'm sure plans are up in the air
- 6:51Speaker 3: at this point. He was planning on going back on
- 6:54Speaker 3: tour starting I think it was next week here within
- 6:58Speaker 3: the States, and she was very supportive of that and
- 7:01Speaker 3: excited about that. But this huge announcement that the two
- 7:08Speaker 3: of them got married in this ceremony is just a
- 7:12Speaker 3: beautiful moment to celebrate the two of them. As I
- 7:16Speaker 3: said earlier, this recent news from Katie makes us all
- 7:20Speaker 3: kind of have this life stopping moment where we take
- 7:22Speaker 3: a step back. This is also a life stopping moment
- 7:25Speaker 3: and one to celebrate. Because Katie Thurston is married. That
- 7:29Speaker 3: is awesome.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yes, we're so happy for her in this part of
- 7:33Speaker 2: her life. She said that they are still going to
- 7:36Speaker 2: have the big wedding that they have been imagining over
- 7:40Speaker 2: the past few months. You and I talked to her
- 7:43Speaker 2: about her wedding plans, and this is what she said
- 7:45Speaker 2: last Wednesday.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Funny enough, I was dragging my feet on wedding planning,
- 7:49Speaker 4: you know. I was more wanting to elobe. And now
- 7:53Speaker 4: given the diagnosis, it feels like there's something really special
- 7:58Speaker 4: about being able to celebrate the love that Jeff and
- 8:01Speaker 4: I have and then to be celebrating that with friends
- 8:03Speaker 4: and family on a big, grand scale. And so my
- 8:07Speaker 4: outlook on just even like wedding planning has shifted because
- 8:11Speaker 4: life is so precious and you just never know what
- 8:13Speaker 4: kind of surprises are going to come your way.
- 8:16Speaker 2: So, like I said, she's still planning on having that
- 8:19Speaker 2: big party blowout later this year.
- 8:22Speaker 3: So here's where we stand now. We're waiting for the
- 8:26Speaker 3: biops results to come back. We are in support here
- 8:33Speaker 3: at the Almost Famous Podcast to continue to share the
- 8:35Speaker 3: news of Katie's journey's journey with all of you because
- 8:38Speaker 3: she has also been so open and vulnerable during her experience,
- 8:42Speaker 3: and we will relay the messaging without any assumptions and
- 8:45Speaker 3: guesses and wild ideas and thoughts. We will just relay
- 8:50Speaker 3: the messages and the information that she shares with us
- 8:52Speaker 3: publicly on social media with you. The listener here at
- 8:55Speaker 3: the Almost Famous podcast and we will wait for that
- 8:59Speaker 3: as kind of the Week continues. But we're also sharing
- 9:03Speaker 3: this podcast because our original intention and still our intention,
- 9:07Speaker 3: is to say congratulations to Jeff and Katie on a
- 9:10Speaker 3: beautiful wedding, a beautiful relationship, a relationship that is built
- 9:15Speaker 3: in a firm on a firm foundation, and we wish
- 9:19Speaker 3: you many, many, many many years of love and laughter
- 9:25Speaker 3: and life and experiences because the two of you bring
- 9:29Speaker 3: all those things to so many.
- 9:32Speaker 2: That was so perfectly said Ben, Katie. We're thinking about
- 9:35Speaker 2: you and praying for you always. You got this, sending you.
- 9:40Speaker 3: All our love till next time.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I've Been Ben, I've Been Ashley.
