- 2:42djbooth dot net. It's a source magazine dot com from time to time and
- 2:46a couple of places where I'm getting some of these stories from. Let's get
- 2:50right to the business. Same schoolboy Q. Finally, we'll drop his new
- 3:00album in twenty twenty four, specifically March of twenty twenty four. This is
- 3:07on Hip Hop DX dot com. It says Schoolboy Q dropping new album Blue
- 3:12Lips next month. I don't know if y'all need to say pause every time
- 3:16you hear that, but whatever. In what's the release date? The release
- 3:23date March first, which, considering we are in February right now. You
- 3:30know, if you're from the future, you're probably in a whole other year
- 3:34and you already heard it. Get your ass out of here. But if
- 3:38you are in the present tense like myself, this album is on the way
- 3:45because February is short. Apparently it's going to have seventeen songs. A couple
- 3:52of titles from the track listen includes time Killers, Cooties, Germany eighty six,
- 4:00and it says the latter being a node to Q's place of birth.
- 4:03Okay, that's cool. Yeah, I'm not gonna go through too much on
- 4:11this, but you can visit Hip Hop d X dot com to read the
- 4:15entire article. I just wanted to say real quick when it comes to Schoolboy
- 4:19Q, well, tde first, let's start with TD. I feel like
- 4:28with that last Kendrick album and it sis in a lot of ways. TD
- 4:33had a rhythm, and I think maybe the pandemic might have slowed that rhythm
- 4:39down some, but they had a rhythm as a label where everybody was dropping
- 4:44and I was on it and it seemed like everybody else was. And then
- 4:50the pandemic happened and Kendrick you know what's his name, and his cousin,
- 4:58Baby King or whatever was over there with him and doing some cryptic stuff,
- 5:01and then Kendrick dropped his final album on TD, and it just kind of
- 5:06felt like the end. Now the end doesn't mean the actual end, just
- 5:12the end as we know it, right, So who knows what Kendrick Lamar
- 5:16albums will sound like going forward, considering he'll have probably more control over what
- 5:24he does, even though I don't think he lacked control, but you know,
- 5:28maybe he'll have the ultimate say. But it just it just seems weird
- 5:34because it was a hell of a run. You know, when you look
- 5:38back, it wasn't like it was short, but it feels it feels dry
- 5:45for TD. And I always felt like, even though disrespect to isa Isaiah
- 5:49Rashad scissors different because we just talked about hip hop. It kind of felt
- 5:56like, Yo, he need school Boy Q to bring back that feeling,
- 6:02you know, to to grab the baton and take TD into the next stage
- 6:11as an organization, or you know, they just signed other people and you
- 6:15know, kind of becomes a new look. But just there's just something missing
- 6:20from the rhythm in which these things were released. And I know he dropped
- 6:25like a single. I think last year that was okay, but it's been
- 6:29a while. I think the last the last school Boy Q album was I
- 6:33think that joint blank Face, which was okay to me. I know some
- 6:38people didn't like it, but I think similar to Kendrick and I don't put
- 6:44them on the same level because their content is so different and how they approach
- 6:47it. But when you're just talking about good albums, Schoolboy Q don't have
- 6:53a whack album. In my opinion, you really don't. And that's why
- 6:57I kind of looked at him like, okay, T twenty twenty four,
- 7:01where we going next? Drop schoolboy Q. First, let him do what
- 7:05he do, and then bring in everybody else. But I sometimes I feel
- 7:12like people sleep on the other members of the crew, and I know people
- 7:16like Jay Rock and all of that it just feels like people will be sleeping
- 7:20your heads be sleeping on the rest of the TDE crew who are actually dope,
- 7:27like most of them are spitterers, and then all of them really makes
- 7:31really good music, like they really don't put out subpar stuff in my opinion,
- 7:38But we shall see. Because even though I don't believe I mentioned this
- 7:43as one as my highly anticipated albums, it actually is because I was anticipating
- 7:48it last year when I thought he would drop an album. So now we're
- 7:53about to get it soon. And considering how this year has begun as it
- 7:59comes to releases, it's been hit or miss. Speaking of hit, hit
- 8:09Boy and Alchemists basically did a surprise but conder not but kinda was surprise drop
- 8:18of a project called Theodore and Andre. Don't get too excited. It's not
- 8:26an album. It's damn it not an EP because it's only three songs.
- 8:31Now, I remember, I think this was last year on Yeah, I'm
- 8:35sure it was on last year on Hit Boys solo album what was it,
- 8:41Surfer Die Swim some something like that. Whatever, h but he had this
- 8:48record with Alchemists where he was rapping over an Alchemist's beat and Alchemist was rapping
- 8:54over his beat and you know that was the beat switch and they had a
- 8:58video on all of that, and remember like hearing it and he was taking
- 9:01shot to other producers, younger producers, not legends, and I was kind
- 9:07of like, yo, they sound good together, Like I think I could,
- 9:15I could be in for more of this. And I remember when I
- 9:20tweeted that hit boy either retweeted my tweet well liked and retweeted it, or
- 9:28he responded in some kind of way like an emoji. I can't remember what
- 9:31it is, and he kind of he responds to almost everybody, but when
- 9:35he did that, when he responded, I was kind of like, Okay,
- 9:41y'all, y'all working on it. And then I saw a tease recently
- 9:46of them wearing the same outfits they wore from that original video, like teasing
- 9:52that they were going to like switch it up and long behold, here we
- 9:56have it. It's a full on project Theodore and Andre. Only it's like
- 10:05on Apple it is listed as a single because it's only three songs. Right,
- 10:09maybe EP is supposed to be like fiving up, but it's listed as
- 10:13a single and it's three songs, And I think it's only like one feature
- 10:20and that's like singing or whatever. I can't see his name and I don't
- 10:24want to. We're just gonna hit the play button real quick so I can.
- 10:26I don't want no strikes, you know what I'm saying. I don't
- 10:28want no strikes. So let's turn it down a little bit. Featuring Jonathan
- 10:35Hewlett. Not very familiar with him, but regardless, three songs, nine
- 10:41minutes, and I like it. I like it. If you take the
- 10:50song they did in twenty twenty three and make this four songs. There's no
- 10:56skips. Now. I know you might saying it's only four songs. Trust
- 10:58me, the albums were like twenty seven tracks where I only like four songs.
- 11:05So having only four songs presented to the public and I like them all
- 11:11is saying something. I think. What I like about it the most is,
- 11:16you know, you know, the production is gonna be right. Their
- 11:20voices kind of go together like as a group. Their approaches are different too,
- 11:28because Alchemist kind of he raps like a boom back rapper, right.
- 11:33You just kind of get that vibe from him, and with hip Boy you
- 11:37get the feel of the West Coast. But you also kind of get the
- 11:41feel of him displaying bars right, like not West Coast as in a chill,
- 11:48laid back version, but more like game, right somebody like game,
- 11:52not like Souls of Mischief, not wordplay on that level, but you know
- 11:56what I mean, just more like game in Kendrick k Dot where you kind
- 12:03of straddle the middle of it, right. You know your accent's dead,
- 12:05but you know you kind of got bars for them too, you know,
- 12:09little techniques and stuff like that. But I like it. I like it,
- 12:16man, It's just it just sounds It just sounds cool, sounds good.
- 12:20The three songs. First, I was kind of like word Then I
- 12:26pressed play. I had to, you know, I had to go walk
- 12:28like it was like a walk to the store and back or whatever. And
- 12:31I just played it going there because it's only ten minutes. And I played
- 12:35it again when I was coming back. Then I listened to it again when
- 12:39I was in the crib, and I was like, I like this,
- 12:43and this kind of makes me thirsty for something more. Now. I don't
- 12:50know, I haven't you know, this is fresh off the presses. I
- 12:54don't know what the plan is. I don't know if they plan to do
- 12:58this a couple of times and then release like a deluxe that's just all of
- 13:03it. That would be kind of dope. But the risk you take with
- 13:07that is the same risk that happened with I think two other projects if I
- 13:16can remember. One off the top is the hip hop fifty EPs, and
- 13:20I think also with the Black Thoughts stuff, right, you risk a chance
- 13:28of one of those joints not really being that solid, so you kind of
- 13:33fall off the wagon as a fan, Like your attention span is, you're
- 13:37not as hungry for it as you are. You know, when you heard
- 13:39the first thing you like. So for me to hear a song and be
- 13:43like, yo, I like that song, and then them to put out
- 13:46three more songs and I'm like, damn, I like those. I kind
- 13:50of feel like the album should be next, right, Like maybe in late
- 13:58March April, you just like, boom, here's the album. You know,
- 14:01do a couple of videos for these who knows. But one thing I'll
- 14:05say is like, when it comes to the hip hop game, and a
- 14:07lot of fans don't necessarily pay attention to this. If you're following like news
- 14:13and hearing musicians and musicians, hearing artists producers talk all the time about what
- 14:20they're doing and who they're with. They're recording all the time, all the
- 14:26time. That's why you hear somebody pop up and be like, yeah,
- 14:30me and Yay got a whole album together, and you're like what I remember
- 14:33when Kanye say that a whole album with migos, entire album. I'm like,
- 14:37word, but some of these things will probably never see the light of
- 14:41day. And it's so crazy like that these things would exist. I like
- 14:48what hit Boy's doing. Hip Boy is saying whatever the energy is, let's
- 14:54go with it and then sit back and say is it worthy? And then
- 15:00let's put it out. Let's not sit on it too long or do a
- 15:05long drawn out It's coming, it's coming, it's coming, it's coming.
- 15:07It's coming to build up height to the point where people start talking talking about
- 15:13things so much that they build what they think it should be, and then
- 15:16when it comes out and it's not that people are disappointed. I kind of
- 15:20feel like with Benny the Butcher, That's why I wanted him to be like,
- 15:22Yo, just check out my album when to drop. You know,
- 15:26I think y'all gonna enjoy it or whatever, or I feel like I'm the
- 15:30best whatever, right, But instead he kind of kept going and going,
- 15:33and all the news for him leading up to his album was about him calling
- 15:39fans nerds right. And I think it took a little wind out of the
- 15:45sales of his album, considering not the purchase not purchase sales, you know
- 15:50what I mean, like a boat sails wind in the celle, you know,
- 15:54stuff like that. But I think it it did. And I think
- 16:00when people like myself who are fans finally got our hands on the album,
- 16:07we were listening with a more critical ear than we would have if he just
- 16:11would have dropped it. Now, I will say, you know, I
- 16:15probably like it more than most, but it was, you know, it
- 16:18was underwhelming. But this joint with Alchemists and hip Boy, Theodore and Andre,
- 16:26it's exactly what I expected, and in some ways it's better than what
- 16:30I expected. Did you hear it? What do you think? Leave your
- 16:34comments in a comment section below. And last, so if you watch,
- 16:41I'm gonna put my phone in my pocket for this one. If you watched
- 16:45or listened to my last episode where I talked about because at the time Megan
- 16:52Thee Stallion had released her disc record towards Nicki Minaj called hiss right and the
- 17:00Megan's Law line, and I told you that that was a good bar.
- 17:04It was so good that Nicki Minaj went on Instagram and everything else and just
- 17:11was acting crazy. And then she eventually dropped a disc record called Bigfoot,
- 17:15which is hands down one of the worst disc records I've ever heard of my
- 17:19life. And one of the reasons why I covered it last week was because
- 17:26I figured, Okay, if they're gonna go, if they're gonna go,
- 17:30there on some distant stuff and you know, little jabs here, and there
- 17:33were some decent bars, but obviously they're not entire songs. It could be
- 17:40entertaining from a hip hop standpoint. I didn't have no lofty expectations of crazy
- 17:45bars and nothing like that. I just wanted to hear what they had to
- 17:48say. And it just got really old, real quick, and very disappointing
- 17:56real quick, because it became about so much more than that. Right,
- 18:00Oh, Nikki is the first female YouTube blah blah blah blah blah, and
- 18:04Megan thee Stallions hisses get they run it run it up. Keep running it
- 18:10up, y'all, keep running it up. And I feel like, did
- 18:15y'all put these out to have us run it up? Or do y'all really
- 18:18have a problem? Do you really have a problem? And this is actually
- 18:23a happy thing, like a happy medium or happy accident kind of thing,
- 18:29you know what I'm saying, Like, Yeah, Pink Friday two is this,
- 18:33but I could use a little bit more. Oh I got a beef.
- 18:34Oh it's running it up. Oh his hiss, And I got a
- 18:38new project coming out, but also need some money from my old price.
- 18:41Oh run it up, y'all because we beefing. That's what it started to
- 18:45feel like. And then Eminem decides and I remember looking at it thinking it
- 18:52was even real. But Eminem decides to diss Benzino on this lyrical Lemonade album,
- 19:02which I checked out. I do not like. It's not Eminem's album,
- 19:07but he's featured on it. And then Benzino responded with two dis records.
- 19:15Now, Nicki Mina, I already said what I had to say about
- 19:18Nicki Minaj and Megan the Stallion right and what eventually rubbed me the wrong way
- 19:26about what they were doing with this. It's kind of the same thing,
- 19:32but I think it's worse. We all see Benzino, maybe not homeless,
- 19:41but appearing to be a little needy in a very very recent past. We
- 19:48even seen him, even though I don't watch this, I saw the clip,
- 19:51but we even seeing him on Vlad complimenting Eminem and contradicting damn and everything
- 19:59he's saying in these disc records not that long ago. Right, it was
- 20:04like he was just hat in hand him out here. Now I get it,
- 20:07Eminem, this me emanism back. This is what's so tiring about this
- 20:14one, in particular is the fact that does everybody forget that we already been
- 20:19here with these two, right? It wasn't jabs. It ended with a
- 20:26disc record by Eminem called Nail in a coffin. Heads who know y'all know
- 20:32that was the end. It was already clear that Benzeno wasn't on the level
- 20:37of Eminem back then. Is he on a level with him now? Not
- 20:42really? But who cares? That's how I feel, like, who really
- 20:49cares? And why do you have two disc records when he kind of had
- 20:55a verse? Why is this happening? Who is it? Four? Now?
- 21:02I'll say, just off the surface, because I don't know everybody's bills
- 21:07from my optics from the outside end, is Eminem got aligned to a lot
- 21:11of money based off of business moves and fifties music and just every just whatever,
- 21:18right ben Zeno don't. I don't know what his revenue stream is.
- 21:22I just know he was looking a little down not that long ago, right
- 21:30like down some of the videos I saw it, and just taking a hit
- 21:36as a celebrity off of a lot of wild stuff. So I just started
- 21:40to wonder because it makes me think back to Machine Gun Kelly when him and
- 21:48Eminem dissed each other. Now I thought Machine Gun Kelly's disc was on point.
- 21:56I felt like he won that kills Shot by Eminem like it was just
- 22:00too it was too technical, dissectical ass bars like sorry family podcast, Sorry,
- 22:08but it was just it wasn't that cool. It wasn't like before Eminem
- 22:17in the past would like nailing the coffin that joint was dope. But you
- 22:22know, this joint whatever it was called, kill Shot was just lackluster for
- 22:30someone he would have cooked easily and still has the capability to do so when
- 22:37you look at them more recent BT ciphers, like the one with slaughter House.
- 22:42But it just wasn't it just wasn't great, And that's how I look
- 22:49at these disc records now, like, well, what's the point. Well,
- 22:53when Machine Gun Kelly got into that scrap of eminem it did and take
- 23:00too long for him to announce a tour for him to all of a sudden
- 23:04be seen everywhere again, like he had faded. People forgot about him for
- 23:11the most part. Album's dropping it was like a launching pad to revitalize his
- 23:18career, and it probably did in some respects. And considering how I saw
- 23:23Benzeno and how much online disrespect he gets from the way he looks and people
- 23:30talking about his neck or lack thereof, and all of that, he's trying
- 23:37to score a win because it's I put it this way, it's like when
- 23:44you're nominated for a Grammy or you're nominated for an Oscar. It's excellent if
- 23:51you win, because your business goes through the roof, but your business also
- 23:56goes through the roof. If you're nominated, it's like a It's like a
- 24:00nice It's the nicest second place badge anyone can get, is to be nominated,
- 24:06especially when you nominated for the first time, because then that's more like
- 24:08the potential thing like, yo, he might be the next one. I
- 24:14feel like with this benzinot get into it with Eminem. Well, now,
- 24:22some of these YouTube channels that pay these dudes to come and sit on the
- 24:26couch and talk, they're all gonna want them because they're all gonna want some
- 24:30insight into it, and they all want they want to have you so they
- 24:34can have everybody watch you say it on their platform and they get money.
- 24:40It's run it up. It's run it up again, and most artists,
- 24:45and I assume Eminem two know what's gonna happen. You at least gotta know
- 24:51by now, especially after the Machine doing Kelly thing. Gotta know by now
- 24:55that engaging with this dude has now put a spotlight on him that he didn't
- 25:00have that he's probably trying to get back in some way. And I'm not
- 25:06saying anybody's right or wrong. It's hip hop. Just dis records is cool,
- 25:10but it kind of feels cheap. And this isn't the first time this
- 25:15has happened, right, This been put like push your t in Jim Jones,
- 25:19a battle that goes nowhere literally now granted, push your te in my
- 25:27opinion, killed Jim Jones with a couple of bars, but it put a
- 25:33spotlight on Jim Jones in a different way, right, people go, win,
- 25:37he gonna drop it like he probably he probably saw mad More followers and
- 25:41all kinds of stuff, right, so you you utilize it. And he
- 25:48just did a disrecord that was like serviceable, and you know, it was
- 25:52kind of like, is push your te gonna respond? And then everybody forgot
- 25:59because he didn't respond. Next time I saw a push the tea, he
- 26:02was looking awkward walking down a runway during fashion Week. I don't care where
- 26:06it was. I don't care where the clothes were. I don't care how
- 26:08much they cost. Awkward is awkward, Okay, But I have no reason
- 26:18to believe that pusha t did it for a certain look he did who knows,
- 26:23right, But somebody like Jim Jones who is watching Cam and Mace get
- 26:30busy over there and get a lot of bread and might be feeling some kind
- 26:33of way, and now he feel like I got a little bit of attention.
- 26:38So again, I'm not saying that these artists get together planned to beef.
- 26:45I wouldn't put it past some of them. I'm just saying the results
- 26:49of it. People think the results of it is who was better. That's
- 26:56not what they think, you know what I'm saying. They may be looking
- 26:59to see what people think about it, but all they know is somebody come
- 27:03back to them and say, Yo, streams are up five hundred percent,
- 27:07sales of your first album is up one hundred percent. We just sold a
- 27:14number of tour tickets. Your Instagram live went crazy, your subscribers on Twitter
- 27:19went crazy, and then some of it if you were releasing music and you
- 27:25weren't even getting this kind of pop, but yet you have a battle with
- 27:29somebody and now you poping like crazy. People like it, I mean even
- 27:36those who don't need it, like a somebody like a Drake, like it's
- 27:41just that energy. But it to me, in a lot of ways,
- 27:44it cheapens the disc records and the battles that have come before. Where sure
- 27:51they probably benefited from it as well, because people want to go buy the
- 27:55music to hear the disc records, but these aren't even quality. And I'm
- 28:00also even talking about eminem stuff. This is just whack all of it.
- 28:06It's not even worthy of talking about. But I was going to ignore it,
- 28:12but then I was like, you know what, let me talk about
- 28:15the aspect of it that I see and that I kind of got a problem
- 28:22with because it's just so corny to have these whack records and everybody just tweet,
- 28:30do you you killed her? You won run it up? Blah blah
- 28:33blah, and we all know it just wasn't that good, man, It
- 28:37wasn't. Nicki Minaj says she got four more, four or five more?
- 28:41Man, please don't don't don't release them? Were good. The first one
- 28:45was enough. First one was enough. That's it, all right? What
- 28:52do you think? Do you enjoy these battles just because they're battles? Do
