- 0:00You know, when you're like high school and like you're a
- 0:02freshman and you're weird and no one knows you.
- 0:04I'm not saying you. I'm saying like in general, but
- 0:07like, you know what I mean? No, I'm saying like for you
- 0:09right now. Yeah.
- 0:10Honestly, I'm going to RIP out this flower and throw this new
- 0:12flower in there and just like, make it work.
- 0:14The seeds are there and you just like, water it, put it in the
- 0:16sun, make it right, Right. And it will find its way.
- 0:20It's always the garden. A garden is the best analogy.
- 0:22There's seeds there and you've got to put it in the right
- 0:24environment to. Grow a perspective for like
- 0:27being a producer, working of artists.
- 0:44Hello Puppy Lulu's and welcome back to The Lulu with Ryan Liu
- 0:48and welcome to our guest you today.
- 0:50He is a groundbreaking DJ, artist, songwriter, producer,
- 0:53the list goes on and on, but please welcome Slush Puppy.
- 0:57Hello. Hi, thank you so much for being
- 0:59here. I know.
- 1:00We were chopping it up so much before we started filming, and I
- 1:03was like, wait, we're doing such good material right now, we just
- 1:05need to do it on camera. And this is your first time
- 1:07doing this, like a podcast, right?
- 1:09Anything. Yeah, I've.
- 1:10Definitely the first time. Thank you for being on.
- 1:12Here I I get I'm I'm more of the off camera kind of guy.
- 1:15I like to spill the lore to myself, but.
- 1:18And you're going to grow it here.
- 1:19Yeah, it's, I'm glad that we both made it here.
- 1:21I know. Oh my gosh, you guys, we so
- 1:24slush puppy DJ D last night at Beaches and I was there.
- 1:29Yeah. This is why I don't have my
- 1:30voice. By the way, We both kind of
- 1:31don't have a voice right now. Yeah, we're out madly.
- 1:34I got home at like 3:00. You got home at like 4.
- 1:36I got home at, like, 4:00 and I, like, fell asleep in, like, I
- 1:41had, like, glitter on my face. I love what's crazy.
- 1:43I didn't want you or Charlie or anyone to know that I was out
- 1:46last night. No way.
- 1:48Yeah. I was like, I feel bad because
- 1:49like we have this at like super early in the morning, but then I
- 1:51see you out and I'm like, oh. I run into you literally.
- 1:54I was like with your artist Magdalene.
- 1:57And she was like, oh, my friend Sam is DJ ING tonight.
- 2:00And then I was like, who's Sam? And then she was like slush
- 2:03puppy. I was like, that's my guest
- 2:04tomorrow and here we are. So this is Sam.
- 2:06Yeah, Sam or Slush. Nobody knows my name.
- 2:10It's giving him, that's what. It feels like no one knows.
- 2:13My name, I like that. I like it Secret whenever I'm
- 2:15just like, want to be like, you know, a little low key.
- 2:17My name is Sam. Do you like prefer to be low key
- 2:19or like what do you do you like being like the spotlight you
- 2:21like being? Spotlight's a crazy word for it.
- 2:24Probably. Probably not for like the
- 2:25spotlight. You're in a spotlight right now.
- 2:27Yeah, no, this is this is the most of hot and it's
- 2:30interesting. Yeah, it's cool.
- 2:31I live for this. It's, it's different for me.
- 2:33I, I think I'm such like a mix of both.
- 2:35Like you're going to catch me at a time where I don't want
- 2:37anything and I'm so to myself. And then you'll catch me at a
- 2:39time where I'm like, I like wanna be a.
- 2:42Pop star, you're literally Hannah Montana.
- 2:45Yeah, that is Hannah Montana. I am Hannah Montana.
- 2:47You're Hannah. Montana, I love that.
- 2:48I wanna be Hannah Montana. You're like my idol.
- 2:50Ordinary girl, yeah. Ordinary girl, ordinary pop
- 2:52star. We're just.
- 2:53Talking 100%, yeah. So yeah, I think in the mornings
- 2:59I'm a little more off camera, but so this is really, this is
- 3:04really something different. So I like this.
- 3:05We agreed to do this so early in the morning.
- 3:07I also knew I had that thing last night that you were DJ ING
- 3:11and I was like telling everyone I was like, I need to be home by
- 3:1211. I have a really early shoot.
- 3:15I ended up running to like every pop store in LA and with the Sun
- 3:18last night and I was just talking to everyone and I was
- 3:20like, fuck, we're really out here.
- 3:21And then I ran into you there. You go, yeah, that was crazy.
- 3:24That is, that was so random. You, I, I, I committed to it.
- 3:30I usually will do it like 11 to 12 or something.
- 3:34And then I remember when I got there, he's like, oh, could you
- 3:36want a DJ like midnight to closing?
- 3:39And I was like. Oh yeah, that's crazy.
- 3:42Absolutely. And then everyone was expecting
- 3:44Hili Rudolph to come out. Which she never came.
- 3:46Out it's OK you're. Be fun.
- 3:48That's what that the hardest thing is when you're when you're
- 3:50performing and everyone's there for somebody or thinking that
- 3:54someone else is going to jump on stage and I'm just like.
- 3:56All right, guys. Well, now I'm here.
- 3:57Let's all dance to I was trying to find her songs.
- 4:00I was. Like I mean, it can be hard
- 4:01because honestly I was like, I don't even know her discography
- 4:04that well. She's an iconic by.
- 4:05The way that's what I was saying, I was like, I was like,
- 4:07fine, you know? I was trying to like make little
- 4:08remixes of old songs. I was like, is this a dumb idea?
- 4:10Like how am I going to do this? Like I mean honestly, it's a
- 4:13losing battle either way. Like you said, they were
- 4:14expecting Hillary. Yeah, yeah, but it was fun.
- 4:17You still did it. We were.
- 4:18We were. Thursday night, yeah.
- 4:20Crazy. And yeah, we got a battery for
- 4:22this, but honestly I'm happy we made it.
- 4:24You raw dog. This.
- 4:24You didn't set an alarm or anything.
- 4:26I didn't set an alarm. I really.
- 4:28Yeah, yeah, no, I'm a risky that no, that was crazy.
- 4:31No alarm. I fell right asleep and I just
- 4:34trusted welcome. And glitter the light so.
- 4:37Yeah, I know. I wake up.
- 4:38I look in the mirror. I was like, I'm just going to go
- 4:39and I see myself in the mirror and I was like, God, I need to
- 4:42shower. Do I like scrubbed my face?
- 4:44I don't know what the heck was on.
- 4:45My head. You're still sparkling right
- 4:47now. Am I?
- 4:47You are your eyes. Yeah.
- 4:49Genuinely, I love it. I'm actually going to look.
- 4:51Glitter on it would have given pop star hardcore.
- 4:53That would have been cool. I mean, I am in my Carrie
- 4:55Underwood T-shirt right now, so. You're giving, you love the
- 4:57girls. Yeah, you know, You know what's?
- 4:59Yeah. I don't know where I even got
- 5:01this, but it's like the sleeves are cut.
- 5:03Who had this? I thrifted this.
- 5:05Who had this before me? Like I need to know.
- 5:08It's like a muscle tea, but it's like Carrie Underwood.
- 5:11Yeah, and I love your style and aesthetic.
- 5:12Like Charlie was talking about it and like, it's super nice and
- 5:15defined, you know what I mean? Really.
- 5:16Genuinely, I've never heard that before.
- 5:18OK, well I talk about visual identity with CC's, my publicist
- 5:21all the time, and I love artists with strong visual identities.
- 5:24Taylor Felt has a strong visual identity.
- 5:26I love yours too. So I think it really defines
- 5:29like you're going to see an artist before you hear an
- 5:31artist, you know what I mean? That's true, Yeah, 100%.
- 5:34It's the whole package. I think like what I see,
- 5:36especially with artists I work with and stuff like as a
- 5:38producer, it's like people are falling in love, like with the
- 5:42whole artist and the whole. Thing and I think a lot of.
- 5:45People get really caught up and like, oh, making the best music
- 5:47ever in this. It's like, of course, that's the
- 5:49biggest part of it. But aside from that, it's like
- 5:51lock in with like, yeah, world build and like, just like be
- 5:55confident, love who you are and like, have your own kind of, I
- 5:58don't know, in my head, I see it as like when I tell artists
- 6:02like, build a garden and don't chase butterflies.
- 6:04You know which It's like if you chase butterflies, you're going
- 6:07to just try to like do this and try to cater to everyone.
- 6:09If you kid everyone, you kid to know, you're just going to be
- 6:11like, just like reaching for the stars.
- 6:14But like, just build your, build your garden.
- 6:15The butterflies will come to you.
- 6:16You. Know what's interesting about
- 6:17that? I was listening to a lot of your
- 6:19music, getting ready for the show.
- 6:20I listen to your other artist projects as well that you
- 6:23produce. And I was telling myself I was
- 6:24like, damn, my musics way too cutesy.
- 6:26It's really like soft. It's like it's not experimental
- 6:30enough. It's not loud enough.
- 6:32It's not because like, Oh my gosh, the productions are so
- 6:34crazy. And then I was like listening
- 6:36back to my music on the way here too.
- 6:37And I was like, you know, it's just really me though.
- 6:39So I don't think I should change that or not try to.
- 6:41Go. No exactly.
- 6:42I think like there's artists for everything.
- 6:45I think for me, I was just always drawn to like really loud
- 6:49sounds and like really blown out kind of like clipped music.
- 6:53I was so into that growing up. So like that's just kind of my
- 6:56take on like pop music because like when I got more into like
- 6:59the pop scene producing for people, like I just kind of did
- 7:02what I liked and I was a lot more like probably like
- 7:05alternative leaning and stuff. Totally kind of just carried
- 7:07over a little bit and like made a sound, but I don't know.
- 7:10I mean, like there's there's things like that, like the
- 7:13clean, some of the cleaner stuff or like the more like define pop
- 7:17stuff. Like I'm not, I maybe not be as
- 7:19good at that stuff and I like there's like people forever.
- 7:22You added like a lot of edge to it though.
- 7:24Like before we started shooting this, we're playing our demos
- 7:27for each other. And I was like, this shit's so
- 7:29fucking good. This is crazy, right?
- 7:30Should I put this out? I was like, why didn't, why
- 7:32didn't you put this out? What favorite question is when
- 7:34someone shows you time, should I put this out?
- 7:35Put this out? Yeah, yeah.
- 7:38I have a lot of stuff. I think that's like the, that's
- 7:40like the curse of like being so into music and producing your
- 7:44whole life. It's like you will just make
- 7:45music forever. And everyone else.
- 7:47He was like, put it out, put it out.
- 7:48And then like, yeah, why is it more complicated than that?
- 7:50Yeah, I guess I should just put it out like.
- 7:52I mean, honestly, it's easy to get in your head, especially as
- 7:54the artist and you're making the music and you're so attached to
- 7:57it. And also you're working on a
- 7:57bunch of different projects too. Oh.
- 7:58My God, yeah, yeah. I think having my hands full
- 8:02with so many different projects and artists and like aesthetics
- 8:04and worlds and sounds and like, and then more things that are
- 8:08just like, like there's, you know, in in the game in LA,
- 8:12you're always like pitching songs to artists and like just
- 8:14working with writers and then you're working with artists and
- 8:16then you're working with like every day you're making
- 8:18something different and like to have to like chameleon into
- 8:21every session is so I don't think it's made for people that
- 8:25make music, but like we do it anyways.
- 8:27You kind of have to, so it's. Weird.
- 8:28So then it just. Yeah.
- 8:29And then how do you like lean into your own project?
- 8:31That's the thing I think the hardest part is like, I mean, to
- 8:35be super honest, like I was doing OK.
- 8:37I was doing my artist project in high school.
- 8:39I had like different SoundCloud pages and like different things
- 8:42and I was always producing for other people at the same time.
- 8:44And like I was super into it and, and any chance I got to
- 8:47release music for myself, I just did that.
- 8:49And a lot of that was to like kind of get myself out there.
- 8:51Yeah. And then like now sometimes,
- 8:53like when I get really backed up on other people's music, I think
- 8:56the last thing I want to do when I, like, leave a session is go
- 8:59home and make music for myself. Like I get so drained.
- 9:03So 100, it comes in random waves where I'll be like, I'm going to
- 9:06lock in and like make a song for myself and release it and like
- 9:09get it going. And sometimes it just like hits
- 9:12me and I like want to do that. And then sometimes I'm like.
- 9:14You're doing all these different projects and you're getting so
- 9:16many different cuts. Like like I said, you're a
- 9:18really prolific producer and you just had a cut with Cordis.
- 9:22Yes. Can tell us about that?
- 9:23I was working with that. They're like blowing up.
- 9:26Yes, that is a crazy one. Probably over a year ago,
- 9:31honestly, maybe maybe even longer.
- 9:33I was I met with someone and I was showing demos to like this
- 9:381A and R and they're like, oh, there's this, there's this like
- 9:41new boy group that is that that hype is working on.
- 9:45But they're like brand. There's there's there's nothing,
- 9:48there's no name, no like really anything.
- 9:50They just like how they just like how the guys are developing
- 9:52and there wasn't even any like demos.
- 9:54I don't think I get I I don't think there was like really
- 9:56anything, but I was like, I'll do it.
- 9:58Like I'll do whatever you're like, fuck it, let's see I'm
- 10:00down, I'm down for I'm down for anything.
- 10:01I'm down to just like have fun. So I I pull up to the studio and
- 10:04they were all there. All the all the kids.
- 10:07We just call them kids. All the the guys are there.
- 10:11They were, they were all there and they were like young and
- 10:14they were all like, like couple of like making beats on their
- 10:17laptop and like they made like this like homemade video, like I
- 10:20think on their iPhone. It was like a music video that
- 10:23was like the sampler of like showing.
- 10:25Yeah, me what was going on. Yeah.
- 10:27And we just like locked in and I didn't think anything.
- 10:32I've, I, I really was just like doing my thing and we made music
- 10:34and we, we just started cooking up and we locked in for a lot of
- 10:38a good amount of time. Like, like, probably like maybe
- 10:42that whole week and then maybe a month later, like a couple more
- 10:45times. But yeah, fashion was a song I
- 10:49produced, which was probably one of the, the first kind of ones
- 10:53that I did with them. Yeah.
- 10:56And then like how all music stuff goes, like you don't hear
- 11:02from people for like over a year and then all of a sudden like,
- 11:05oh, we're we're debuting. We have a name Cordis, and it's
- 11:07this is this. And like that project, it just
- 11:09like it just appears. And I'm like, OK, now it's out.
- 11:12And now everyone talking about it.
- 11:13So like it's so it's so interesting.
- 11:15Yeah, it's really cool. That was like, I saw it super
- 11:18early, like no. Yeah, from the beginning.
- 11:20Yeah, from the beginning they were like shooting a documentary
- 11:22and that I ended up being in, so you can find me there.
- 11:25It was really fun. Yeah.
- 11:26So shot a documentary. I'm going to watch that.
- 11:28Yeah, I did. I worked on fashion and I did
- 11:30their song What You Want, which was actually their first Spotify
- 11:33single, which was really cool. That's awesome.
- 11:35But yeah, that was a fun. They're they're so good and so
- 11:39young, especially at the time too.
- 11:41And they were all just like they were so excited and just like in
- 11:45it you. Literally saw it just from the
- 11:46beginning. Yeah, to.
- 11:47Where it is now it it's so interesting.
- 11:48Like we were really creating something from like it.
- 11:51It genuinely was just like. How special is that it?
- 11:53It yeah, it was it was really cool.
- 11:55It's a really cool scene and now like unfold.
- 11:57I was like wow, like they they have their shit like unlocked,
- 12:02like the the K pop, like the systems and like the labels out
- 12:05there A. 100% these. Is that intimidating?
- 12:07It's like it's K pop, you know? It feels like a bigger Like
- 12:10what? So it always feels like a K pop,
- 12:13like everything. It just feels so like, yeah, it
- 12:15feels like, I don't know, it feels like a government.
- 12:19Like it feels like it's like so big.
- 12:21It's so big and it's so like. There's a music industry and
- 12:25there's K. Pop, that's what it feels like,
- 12:26yeah, especially out here, like doing stuff.
- 12:28It's just the workflow is different the way artists work,
- 12:32like the way it is in rooms and and and making songs and stuff.
- 12:35But I would say working with them was the IT felt like the
- 12:38least K pop thing I've done in K pop because like, yeah, they
- 12:41were all super a part of the writing process in like
- 12:44producing on their own, like tracks like you.
- 12:47Said they were making beats when you they.
- 12:48Literally were yeah, so that's crazy.
- 12:50Martin is like one of the the main guy that the tall fucking
- 12:55kid, right? And he, I showed up, he had his
- 12:57laptop and he had all these beats and he was just grinding
- 13:00out songs and he had so many tracks ready.
- 13:05Like, like, he, he, he literally could, they all could carry the
- 13:09whole group. Like they don't need any.
- 13:11They honestly don't need anyone. Did you always develop from the
- 13:13beats that they showed you? Yeah, like they would, they
- 13:16would pull up a beat and like I'd go off of it or something or
- 13:20take the tracks or other way around.
- 13:22Like we'd, it was really collaborative, incredibly
- 13:24collaborative. They go on the mic and do all
- 13:26these passes and just like, shout in the mic.
- 13:29They'd all go in there and as a group and like, sing the
- 13:32choruses together, which is so interesting.
- 13:34Yeah, definitely. And I was like, oh, that's cool.
- 13:37That's sick because I would expect in Sheep Pop it's like a
- 13:39lot of pitching the songs, not getting in the room with the
- 13:41artists at all. Yeah.
- 13:42And then like. That's usually how it is.
- 13:44That's like, I mean, from from my experience, that's almost
- 13:49always the case, right? Like literally always the case.
- 13:52So this was so unique and I, I think that's what made the group
- 13:54so special and unique and do so well is that they really let
- 14:00them just like do their thing and just like be in the room and
- 14:04just like make music they're excited about.
- 14:05And like it's, it really seemed like the ones they like we're
- 14:08excited about and loved are the ones that came out, which is so
- 14:11cool. That's awesome.
- 14:12Very, very collaborative. That's awesome.
- 14:14So you've honestly been there for like the start of a lot of
- 14:16different artist projects. I know you worked really closely
- 14:18with Snow wife and on her project you're actually on Body
- 14:22Ology 2 on my body and you're featured on.
- 14:25That I am, yes. It's my pop * Oh.
- 14:29Absolutely true, Hannah Montana. My yeah, Honestly, Snow.
- 14:34Oh my goodness. She is one of the closest people
- 14:37in my life. We are so close.
- 14:40Like, she's like my best friend and I've known her for so long.
- 14:46Did you do wet? Dream.
- 14:48You know what's so funny? I Wet Dream is like one of
- 14:53pretty much the only songs I did into, but that's crazy.
- 14:55That's my favorite snow song. But yeah, which I which I think
- 14:59is so funny. That is I tell people that like
- 15:01I I I probably like no, I didn't do my dream, but I I love that
- 15:04song. That's like my most listened to
- 15:06song of hers, and maybe it's because I didn't do it that I
- 15:09love it so. How do you feel like because
- 15:10you're detached from it? How much do you love the music
- 15:13you produce? Like, oh, do you listen to your
- 15:15own? Such a crazy question.
- 15:16Like, I listen to my shit nonstop.
- 15:19I'm like my own biggest fan, you know?
- 15:21What's crazy is like it's like a lot of I feel like I like hate
- 15:27everything I make, but like I enjoy it a little bit.
- 15:34Like I don't know how to say it. I pretty much like it's so
- 15:37normal for producers to hate almost everything they do.
- 15:39Like literally like because you can always see it through so
- 15:42much different. Like when I'm listening to song,
- 15:44when I'm listening to snow songs, everything, I'm just like
- 15:46the kick or oh, the the the collapse sound or just like
- 15:49something that's so not what everyone else is hearing.
- 15:53Yeah. And that's just like the
- 15:54producer brain. That's like any song I do.
- 15:56I'm like, oh, like that could have sounded.
- 15:57But honestly, I hear that all the time.
- 15:58I try to let go. I I try to let go of that.
- 16:00And I'm just like, well, if it's a vibe, you're going.
- 16:01To be nippy and like you're the one who's like, dissecting the
- 16:05song you're reading it, That's crazy.
- 16:07Yeah, so it's interesting, but yeah, snow, we go way back.
- 16:13I met her years ago, probably like 2021 or 2022 at some like
- 16:20party or something. And then we just became friends
- 16:22and we were just really close friends.
- 16:23And then I don't know what happened where I I was probably
- 16:25just like, she would just like hang out and I'd just be like
- 16:27recording, making music. She's like, let me try to sing,
- 16:29like let me do something. And we just like, I start
- 16:31recording her. And then it turned into we just
- 16:34like put together her. We just like, kind of just,
- 16:37yeah. It, it really felt like it came
- 16:41out of nowhere. Yeah.
- 16:42I was like what? Like?
- 16:43Because she's such a talented dancer.
- 16:45Yeah, she's such a good dancer, and she was always doing that.
- 16:47And then I guess in our heads, we're like, oh, like, let's make
- 16:50music. And then You Can Dance to it.
- 16:51And like, it was really simple. You know, it's crazy.
- 16:53And that was at a time in my life I had.
- 16:54I didn't know that was coming. I really was like, we were just
- 16:57having fun. Like me, me and her were just
- 16:59having a good time making cool music.
- 17:01And then, yeah. So it's fast for my body
- 17:06actually, and really quick, yeah.
- 17:07Let's do it. Yeah, so let's talk about my
- 17:10body. Yeah.
- 17:10Yeah. So for my body, we.
- 17:14Let's see. Oh God, I'm rambling.
- 17:17No tell us about it. So my body is on bodyology 2 and
- 17:20such puppy is the featured artist and this is no wives
- 17:22song. Yes, yeah, it is Bodyology 2.
- 17:27What's funny is that we made body Ology.
- 17:29It was like a fun, just like the way we make stuff.
- 17:33We just like get in, just like have fun and just like throw
- 17:36some shit down and like that becomes the song.
- 17:39Like we're not incredibly like sculptive or I guess like
- 17:41especially then it's. Like being a disruptor in pop
- 17:44music. We literally just like, we just
- 17:46like put some stuff together. I think what's really
- 17:48interesting is making my body was like a random thing we made
- 17:53so long ago, possibly before we made body ology.
- 18:00In the first verse of my body is actually like the chorus of body
- 18:05ology. So biology, the chorus is like
- 18:08in the VIP you can join for free.
- 18:11And then the first verse of my body is in the VI and it's the
- 18:16verse of that song and then I just like put into a drop.
- 18:19And what's crazy is that song specifically that was like my
- 18:22our first like passive. It is the song that is out.
- 18:25I got my computer stolen in like maybe April of like 2025, Four
- 18:33twenty, yeah, 2024, I don't know.
- 18:35I got my computer stolen and I remember that was like one of
- 18:38the few songs that wasn't backed up and I literally lost that
- 18:43entire song. So we dropped the MP3 of the 1st
- 18:48about that. I did.
- 18:49So that's what it sounds like. So yeah.
- 18:51Also with pumps. Oh shit.
- 18:53Pumps is like what it is. That's like what we made.
- 18:57Yeah. Like we like, I like, send you a
- 18:59friend to like. Yeah, you don't.
- 19:01Want to go in and try again? You're just like, OK, if I go,
- 19:02which is the first bounce. Yeah, OK 'cause we're like, we
- 19:06like it. That's we're like, this is cool
- 19:07and and then I like to do it. Yeah, it was super easy.
- 19:09Even with my body. I was like, there's some magic
- 19:11here. There's like a a cool feel to
- 19:13it, like the rawness. Like I think that's what I think
- 19:16that's what I like in pop music is like.
- 19:18I think I was talking about this to you earlier, but I really
- 19:20like a lot of people in pop music are like, so it's Polish.
- 19:24Yeah, it's polished. They they don't like
- 19:25imperfections. But I think for me, like I was
- 19:27really, I want to, I think imperfections are perfect in my
- 19:31opinion. And I think like having some
- 19:33things that are a little just like raw and gritty is like what
- 19:36makes it so much more original. And that's just like what I
- 19:38resonate with more totally. And like there's a time and
- 19:41place like make something as polished as you can.
- 19:43But I think the kind of producer I am, I like to have things that
- 19:45are super raw. So I was like, OK, let's.
- 19:47Drop. Let's drop that paper in this
- 19:48table, especially in the 100%. And I think that's something
- 19:51like especially in your music and your own music, that's like
- 19:54makes it so resonant. It's not exactly this perfect
- 19:58Polish, like actual Hannah Montana package, just like your
- 20:01music. And that's so sick.
- 20:03And I love the productions. Thank you.
- 20:05Yeah, I, I really just do my thing.
- 20:09Like I, I think a lot of people like, like to like, you know,
- 20:11really ask and like, oh, how do you do this or what do you
- 20:13produce? I was like, you just do your
- 20:15thing. Like whatever you just do, just
- 20:17do it. Absolutely.
- 20:18You'll find your way. I love that, Yeah.
- 20:20What I really love about your productions and your own work
- 20:22and the work that you do with other artists is like, it feels
- 20:24like disruptive pop and it's still very like, it's not
- 20:28polished and perfect like you said, and you don't even want it
- 20:31to be. But I think your other project
- 20:33that you're working on, Magdalene Hershit, is so
- 20:36bombastic and robust, and DJ Jesus is such a smash.
- 20:40Oh my gosh. Yeah, it's so fucking good.
- 20:42How did that come about? How did you eat her?
- 20:44She is so cool. She's like, I don't know if
- 20:48she's made me less cool of a person just because she's so
- 20:50cool or more cool because I like with each other.
- 20:53I like she's got this like aura on her own.
- 20:55She literally like gives me clothes like I trust anything
- 20:58she. That is literally.
- 20:59She's just like a cool person. She's and I think that's why I
- 21:01like, I was like. Very chill.
- 21:02She's so chill. She's so nice, yeah.
- 21:05I love nice people, you know what I mean?
- 21:06100% love Nice. Like actually genuinely lovely.
- 21:09Yeah. I don't tell people I love them.
- 21:11And then I was, I met her yesterday and I was like, I love
- 21:14you. And I never tell people that
- 21:15like I. She has that and it's like,
- 21:17she's so, yeah, she's just so nice.
- 21:19She's so cool. And she's so talented, too,
- 21:21like. A vision area.
- 21:22Really, really strong artist. I met her in a session, a random
- 21:28blind session, which like is such a classic thing.
- 21:32I did a lot when I first moved to LA.
- 21:34And then I think I've done like less of it in the past year, but
- 21:37it was like last year in like January, probably about exactly
- 21:40a year ago. I don't know how it got set up,
- 21:43but I think someone like sent me your profile.
- 21:45I was like, do you want to do a session with this girl?
- 21:47I was like, sure, why not? Just like suck new, It's new
- 21:49year. And the first song we made, and
- 21:52the session was just me and her and we made DJ Jesus.
- 21:54We made like pretty much the whole song, that is.
- 21:57And I was like, love, right? So fun.
- 22:00Yeah. Something fun to do it like,
- 22:03like, I'm excited to lock in. And then.
- 22:05And I told her I was like, let's like, keep going and let's do
- 22:07it. And I, we just like locked in
- 22:11and worked all the time and started sculpting this projects
- 22:15together and yeah. That's so sick.
- 22:18I'm excited. It's been so fun.
- 22:19We spent the entire year on it. We went to Joshua Tree and did
- 22:21like a camp. Got a lot of.
- 22:23Music. Yeah, we made some good songs
- 22:24there. You've heard like the whole
- 22:26album pretty much. I have.
- 22:28I didn't know if I should. Do I tell that?
- 22:30Yeah, of course. Should I?
- 22:31OK, right, right, Charlie. I gave him a sneak peek.
- 22:36So Slash Puppy gave me a sneak peek of this album.
- 22:38It is so sick. Now that I'm talking about, I'm
- 22:40going to talk about it. Talk about.
- 22:41It's so cohesive. We played it in the car with
- 22:43Charlie and I was like, it runs like a show, like a play and
- 22:47like, and I was telling you the intro song too is like it's so
- 22:50jazzy and it's. So like, yeah, it's so cool from
- 22:53like DJI love that and I I love what I love doing is I love
- 22:57turning heads on of turning heads is the right word to say
- 23:00you wanted. I love to.
- 23:01Be surprised I love people did not know my next move as well as
- 23:05I'm pretty sure and I love just like being like oh here I like.
- 23:08'Cause I wouldn't have expected that, 'cause I heard DJ Jesus
- 23:10first, yeah. And then playing their album
- 23:12through, I was like, there are a lot of jazzy elements in this.
- 23:15This is like and I feel like that's harder to produce.
- 23:16Than pop yeah a lot of theatrics a lot of fun with it and she and
- 23:20she has such a unique kind of style and like fashion to her
- 23:23where I just think like every part of it like lyrics
- 23:27production, the sound, the visual everything is just going
- 23:30to be like blah blah like, you know jazz hands absolutely and I
- 23:35and I wanted that and I love that and there's so many
- 23:37elements and I think one of our favorite references that we
- 23:40really like kind of like side eye on was the first panic at
- 23:43the disco album. We're like I we're like, I love
- 23:47how all the songs go together. It's very theatrical, but
- 23:49there's this like there's this big like kind of pop rock sound
- 23:53to it. Totally.
- 23:53And that's like really alternative and really cool and
- 23:56all the songs kind of go together and stuff.
- 23:57So we're like, let's just like, I love that.
- 24:00And I wanted to showcase work. Yeah, 100%.
- 24:02And I wanted to showcase more of my organic production too.
- 24:06I think a lot of people like kind of just see whatever is
- 24:08like popular of what I do and stuff, which is a lot of pop
- 24:11stuff and a lot of like more like electronic hitting stuff,
- 24:14right, Which I love and it's so fun, but I don't know.
- 24:17I've like grown up playing instruments my entire life and I
- 24:21just like wanted a little more organic stuff.
- 24:23Yeah. And like just in my there's far.
- 24:28On this project too, and I think as the project progress too, it
- 24:30keeps getting, it goes harder and then it gets softer.
- 24:33It's just it's a really good body.
- 24:34It's like a movie, like it feels like 100% feels like a like a
- 24:38experience. And I love that I can listen to
- 24:41it, like start to finish and be like, yeah.
- 24:44Absolutely. You know what I'm telling
- 24:45Charlie. I was like, this is an album I
- 24:47genuinely will listen to you like.
- 24:48I will probably enjoy this album.
- 24:49Like deeply like. I love it.
- 24:51I'm obsessed. I love that and me too.
- 24:53I'm so proud of it and I'm so excited for it.
- 24:56You start building. World together yeah like
- 24:58genuinely and I want to step into that world like I should
- 25:00love and the music video was so. Fucking kind crazy.
- 25:03I don't freak out. It's it's, it's, it's so cool.
- 25:06I'm so good. I'm gonna post.
- 25:08I I want to like post the video on my grid and be like, yeah, I
- 25:11didn't do anything to the video. I know part of that, but I'll
- 25:14just be like, look, just watch, like watch this, look at this.
- 25:16It is so good. It's so cool.
- 25:18She's an incredible artist. It's just like, I love shit that
- 25:21it's just like. She's gonna come on the show,
- 25:22too. Oh, you have to have.
- 25:24Her I need to have. Her, she will steal the the
- 25:27spotlight. I She's born for the camera.
- 25:29Seriously, she's born. For the camera, absolutely
- 25:31she's. Porn for the camera.
- 25:33DJ Jesus is incredible, like the world that you guys build with
- 25:35this album is so sickening. Thank you.
- 25:38It is my it is some of my favorite stuff.
- 25:41I'm I'm so proud of it. Like I just love it.
- 25:43And I really love being like from the beginning of like
- 25:46making these worlds like. 100%. Yeah, I think like, back to my
- 25:51set of like, build a garden instead of chasing butterflies.
- 25:53Like it's so easy to be a producer and a writer and just
- 25:55like really strive and, and push for like these big cuts and like
- 25:59send songs to the biggest artists and get in with everyone
- 26:01and just try as hard as you can to get like a little album cut
- 26:04with a huge artist, which like, you can do that, you can have
- 26:07your ground. But I, I really believe in like,
- 26:08just like, just like people that you mesh well with and create
- 26:13well with. Like you will make the most,
- 26:16like you'll make the best reflection of yourself and and
- 26:19work. But that's.
- 26:19Genuinely incredible. Like that's super sick because
- 26:22exactly that. I know so many producers who are
- 26:24just chasing to get like a giant cut and stuff and it's just like
- 26:27that's that's cool, that's fine. It's like work absolutely.
- 26:30At the same time, like I'm working on my debut project and
- 26:32I'm like, I just want to make the best thing that I can do.
- 26:35And I just want to like, I'm not chasing the head.
- 26:36I'm not trying to do it. Yeah, like whatever's true to
- 26:39me. It always it always finds its
- 26:42way. I I always see artists like have
- 26:44their little moment, whether it's like they have like this
- 26:47kind of shot in the dark hit or like this random thing and and
- 26:50then they get kind of lost and they're confusing.
- 26:52It's this and and they all and whenever I see it like really
- 26:55connect is they always go back to their roots, whatever that
- 26:57is, whatever is natural they're. Always on their journey with
- 27:00that. Exactly whatever is naturally
- 27:01like the most of them like once they lock into that and connects
- 27:05it just like you just and it's. Beautiful.
- 27:06I think people can like recognize that authenticity now
- 27:08too. Oh.
- 27:09Absolutely, and they can see through it when it's not more
- 27:12important. Yeah, definitely.
- 27:14Well, you're working on your own music now too.
- 27:15You're going back to your own artist project.
- 27:17Let's talk about. That I am always in and out of
- 27:20that like it's cool. I'm independent.
- 27:22I can kind of just like do whatever I want.
- 27:24That's awesome. I do I'll like if people I'll,
- 27:27I'll collaborate. I'll put out my own songs if I
- 27:29have something cool and it's yeah, anytime I like find time
- 27:33to do that. I I love doing my stuff and I,
- 27:35I, I DJI play out a lot. I yeah, prolific.
- 27:39Whatever. Prolific.
- 27:41There you go, my new word already forgot what it means.
- 27:44Do it. Everywhere you're doing it,
- 27:46Yeah. Wait, can I tell you something?
- 27:48You were so fucking talented. You're so young.
- 27:50Like I'm actually shut because I always tell people like I think
- 27:53the best producers are in their 30s.
- 27:55I. Agree.
- 27:56No, but. You're so I was also trying to
- 27:58imagine him in his 30s because you're 24, right?
- 28:01I'm 24. 24 You're so you're like a prodigy.
- 28:03What? Thank you.
- 28:05That's crazy. I don't.
- 28:06Have to say that, but I look thank you.
- 28:08I, I feel like, you know, what's funny is a lot of people like a
- 28:12lot of like the biggest producers, like they're, they're
- 28:15in their 30s. Honestly, like I feel like they
- 28:17have such their moments then 100% and in my head I'm like,
- 28:21OK, like I feel like this whole era of like my 20s, early 20s,
- 28:25mid 20s, late 20s, it's going to be like all this is like, yes,
- 28:29some things will connect and I'll have like some, you know,
- 28:32hopefully some, some good great successes and make some great
- 28:34music. But all this, I am learning so
- 28:37much. I'm literally learning all of
- 28:41this to then enter the next phase of my life.
- 28:44Like later that's going to be in like 10 plus years and wherever
- 28:46music's at at that point. Like I'm gonna have so much
- 28:48experience from this world, like.
- 28:50Imagine how good it's going to be.
- 28:51Yeah. Then.
- 28:52And it's so good now, Yeah. And it's crazy.
- 28:54I think that's like the most valuable.
- 28:58That's the most valuable thing. Like in in every person is their
- 29:01experience and like what they've learned and like being lucky to
- 29:04like, be in so many incredible rooms and with artists and
- 29:09labels and writers and producers.
- 29:10Like at a young age, Like I came out here, you know, I was 1819,
- 29:14like doing all these sessions and stuff.
- 29:16And, and I think from what I learned then is why I'm doing
- 29:19what I do now. And what I'm doing now is going
- 29:21to be whatever comes later for me, honestly.
- 29:24Yeah. You're.
- 29:24Originally from San Diego, yes. So then you decided you knew you
- 29:27wanted to come out to LA so you can like.
- 29:29Yeah, I just drove up like it's the easiest job.
- 29:33I know a lot of a lot of people are like, oh, like, wow, you
- 29:35just came to. I was like, yeah, I just got in
- 29:37the car, drove like an hour and a half hours and up here, I love
- 29:41San Diego represent There we go. It is like my place.
- 29:45You know what's crazy? I was actually born in New York,
- 29:47OK, And I lived there for like a a a decent ish time of like my
- 29:52young childhood. I don't tell people that.
- 29:54I had no idea. Yeah, because anytime you tell
- 29:57someone you're from, they get so into it, you know?
- 29:59Oh really? Because like New Yorkers are so
- 30:00like, yeah, what are you talking about?
- 30:02Yeah, Yeah. So I just make it easier.
- 30:05Yeah. From San Diego.
- 30:06That is easy. Yeah.
- 30:08OK, wait. We're learning a lot then.
- 30:09Yeah, no, this is lore. I love the lore.
- 30:11Big lore, big spill in here. Let's get into the horror lore.
- 30:15So let's talk about your single whore love.
- 30:17What's going on in horror? So horror, such such a title
- 30:21that is so just like. A really powerful drawing.
- 30:24Title I just wanted. To do that you know you though.
- 30:26Yeah, you know why? I actually really wanted to put
- 30:29out a song called Horror. I wanted to do it before someone
- 30:34else does it in like a classier way.
- 30:37Does that make sense? Yeah.
- 30:38Absolutely. Which like maybe there's songs
- 30:40out there, there's obviously like, you know, some probably
- 30:43like little hyper pop songs out there like Cold Horror, but I
- 30:46don't wanna do it before like someone did it.
- 30:48And like the word like, I don't know, do you know, I'm saying
- 30:51there's sometimes there's things that there's sometimes that I'm
- 30:54I was like, I was like, this is such a simple word that everyone
- 30:56knows that's like kind of on the edge of like I don't really say
- 30:59that word A. Lot yeah, it's like slightly
- 31:01jarring, but. It's kind of jarring.
- 31:02I was like, I'm just gonna put out a song called.
- 31:05Whore. I love that.
- 31:06And just like, who cares? Yeah, like, you know, it's the
- 31:09hardest thing to promote because because of the.
- 31:12Yeah, the word you, it's like the hardest song to promote.
- 31:15So I was like, we don't do it. And then?
- 31:17That's so matter in camp anyways though I.
- 31:19Was just like, why not? Yeah, whatever.
- 31:20And like no one's telling me not to.
- 31:22You know what? I.
- 31:22Mean. Oh yeah, that's really.
- 31:24Yeah, no label or anything. Like I, I work all these artists
- 31:26and producers, they have these labels and like the whole system
- 31:29and they get approved in this and like I'm just like.
- 31:33You're just doing it. You want to sign to a label?
- 31:35Put it out. I would, I, would I?
- 31:38Could I have been my dream label?
- 31:43That's so interesting. That's such an interesting
- 31:45question. For me, mine's Interscope.
- 31:48I don't know any like like I you should do a wall.
- 31:53I I. You know what's so crazy?
- 31:55I'm independent. I have no idea I'm so down for
- 31:59whatever. If it comes my way and it makes
- 32:02sense, fuck it. I will sign a deal and be like
- 32:06that guy. I'm down.
- 32:08I I totally will. I I don't have like AI feel like
- 32:11I don't have a I'm not like I'm independent.
- 32:13What, anyone touching my shit like you?
- 32:15Know people can be really precious about that and.
- 32:16Also, I'm not really anti label. I all literally all of my
- 32:19artists I'm gonna make. I'm like, oh, I want to put this
- 32:21out and then someone else is like, oh, I want this great.
- 32:23Take it like I don't care. I could make so much music like
- 32:26that is I literally don't. It doesn't.
- 32:28I don't get so precious like this is my song and this means
- 32:31so much. Oh, I'm so opposite.
- 32:33I'm very precious about everything I do like especially.
- 32:35Music people are like a lot of people are most most most people
- 32:38are like that. For some reason I don't know
- 32:40what it is. I started roducing and writing.
- 32:42I was probably 10 years old laying with like Logic and FL
- 32:45Studio, and I just like, I really think that I don't know,
- 32:50like it's a reflection. Even if someone else puts out a
- 32:52song that I work on, like that's me.
- 32:54That's my work putting out there.
- 32:55So like, I look at it that way. Yeah, I don't.
- 32:57That's so crazy because like as a songwriter, when I writing for
- 33:00the artist and they sing the songs and I hear it, I'm like, I
- 33:03don't even recognize I wrote this even though I wrote.
- 33:05It's really crazy. It's only like for me, it's like
- 33:08I have to have my voice on it if it's going to be my song.
- 33:10But I could write for other people, like their stories and
- 33:12stuff and I don't really, I'm not connected to it whatsoever.
- 33:14So I think that's another thing. It's like it's not my story to
- 33:16tell anyways. I'm just playing the part of a
- 33:19writer for them, you know? Yeah, I just, I just like, I
- 33:23really like, I I'm so not precious.
- 33:25I love collaborative stuff. I yeah, I love having a piece of
- 33:29me in everyone's music. I don't care.
- 33:31Like, I love it. Whoever wants to work, I'll I'll
- 33:34like, you know, like I love. You're super open.
- 33:36To it. That's cool.
- 33:37I feel like people get really precious about it.
- 33:39Like we were talking about I think producers specifically to
- 33:41get really picky. Oh my.
- 33:42God, yeah. It's like, it's just sound.
- 33:45I don't know, to me that feels so like pretentious.
- 33:48It's very pretentious. Like why are you so industry
- 33:50general? I think, yeah, I don't know.
- 33:52I think producers could be pretentious.
- 33:54Like it's a lot. Every, everything I've done,
- 33:57yeah, that is successful or whatever, yeah, literally came
- 34:02from like the absolute beginning.
- 34:05Seriously, that is saying everything I've worked on like
- 34:09give or take a couple, obviously, but like all like the
- 34:12the big things that I've done even like I did like Nessa
- 34:16Barrett's first. Like I worked on Nessa Barrett's
- 34:20like first EP and I did her like big song on that one.
- 34:22And like I think before that EP, like she was still kind of like
- 34:25doing the just TikTok influencer.
- 34:27Like it was harder to like she was making that transition of
- 34:30being an artist and I was like, oh hell yeah.
- 34:31Like I'm. And I got to like work on her
- 34:33song, like hope you're miserable until you're dead.
- 34:35Look at that is the song. And that song did so well and
- 34:38it's so cool. And that was like one of the
- 34:39first credits I ever had song right.
- 34:41And actually so random. It was crazy.
- 34:43And that like changed so much of my life.
- 34:45But like, yeah. And then seeing her become an
- 34:47artist like from that EP and people loving that song and
- 34:50like, I was like, wow, like this is so cool.
- 34:53Like this like it's like so legit and and she was always a,
- 34:57you know, a legit artist, obviously, but it's just like so
- 35:00cool, like helping not develop and obviously with snow and
- 35:03stuff like that was really just me.
- 35:05We were like me and her were coming up with her name
- 35:07together. We were like, yeah, I actually
- 35:09came up with the name Snow wife. I would never like say that and
- 35:11take the forever of it, but I actually told her I was like,
- 35:13you know what a cool name Snow wife, and she's like, fuck it,
- 35:17She didn't care. She was like, let's go.
- 35:18I love that. And she she loved it.
- 35:20And her last name Snow. I don't know if people know
- 35:21that. Oh, I don't know that that makes
- 35:23sense. Name is Emily.
- 35:25Yeah. Oh, see.
- 35:25Feeling that. I don't know if that's bad to do
- 35:28people know that about Snow Charlie?
- 35:32We'll find out. Anyways, I think it's kind of
- 35:34funny. Another.
- 35:35Thing you had a hand in was the gnarly remix with Cat's Eye.
- 35:38I know that was. How did that come about?
- 35:40So random, so fun. Because that song is so, like,
- 35:43iconic. It's such a big song.
- 35:44You know what's crazy is like that that one one I love the the
- 35:54like Pink Slip is the guy that produced that song Pink Slip
- 35:57with I think Tim Randolph or a couple other God, I don't know.
- 36:02I believe you couple couple of those are like friends of mine
- 36:05that are the closest like some of my closest collaborators I've
- 36:08had since I moved to LA. Yeah, Pinks of the other that
- 36:11song produced my song eats spit with me, which was like my like
- 36:16viral Internet song when I was like 19.
- 36:18I. Was going to 20, I was kind of
- 36:19an older one for. You it was an older one, like in
- 36:21like the COVID TikTok era, he said.
- 36:22I was probably 20 years old. Like the COVID TikTok emo hyper
- 36:27pop era, like that song did its thing and like people love that
- 36:31and it's still like streams like crazy, which is right.
- 36:33But Pink Slip was I made that with him and he produced Gnarly,
- 36:38which is really cool. It's so interesting you listen
- 36:39to that. Like it has such a similar
- 36:41sound. Yeah, he has such his thing and
- 36:43he's so talented, shouts him. He's very talented.
- 36:46He's so good. He's he's awesome.
- 36:47I've learned so much of what I do producing from him.
- 36:50Yeah, honestly, he's taught me so much.
- 36:53Yeah, they loved him. But what's cool is Gnarly
- 36:56obviously came out the real version and like, you know, was
- 37:01massive and everyone knew it. And then Laura is a close friend
- 37:07of mine. Rhea and Laura, their sisters
- 37:10are like such close people of mine, that whole family.
- 37:13Like I'm always at her house eating dinner and stuff.
- 37:16I just toured with Rhea with. We'll get to that, but I think I
- 37:22don't know what happened. I think Laura texted me and
- 37:24she's like, I want to make a a gnarly remix like blah, blah.
- 37:27Like yeah, it was so quickly like she just like texted me
- 37:31that she's like, I want to make like a gnarly room.
- 37:33It's like a sick club version, blah, blah.
- 37:35Do you want to do it? Like do you want to come over
- 37:36to? She's very like, do you want to
- 37:38come over tonight or tomorrow? And I was like, fuck it, we're
- 37:40doing it right now. We literally I pull up.
- 37:42She had all these ideas. Like a lot of that was like
- 37:44really much her sauce. Like she was like, what if it's
- 37:47like, and we just like did it And I think we literally did it
- 37:53in that one night. And then I think she sent it to
- 37:55the team and they were like, great, love it.
- 37:59Let's let's put it out like this Friday.
- 38:01And it came out like that week with that Spice remix.
- 38:04And what's so funny is when it came, I had no, I just thought
- 38:06that they just made a remix for it when it came out.
- 38:09It was on my artist profile. So it's slush Puppy ex, Cat's
- 38:13Eye and then Lancy. She got Lancy on it.
- 38:16Yeah, she's friends with him. I think he's in like the UK or
- 38:19something. Oh yeah, she got him on it.
- 38:22He like, sang a verse on it and then yeah, like it came out on
- 38:25their page, like with my name on it, which was so.
- 38:29Interesting that was going to. Happen No, I actually didn't I I
- 38:32didn't like I know it was gonna mean the credits or whatever and
- 38:35then we made some videos and just like had fun with it, but I
- 38:38didn't think it was like my artist's profile.
- 38:40So I was like, oh, I'm so down for that like that's great like
- 38:43this is so fun. It's so cool.
- 38:45It's so it's so random. It's such a random to me.
- 38:47Like a group like that, like such a massive, you know, like K
- 38:53pop formed group like that are doing the biggest shit right
- 38:56now. Like everyone loves scout side.
- 38:58They blew up so fast. Like that came out of nowhere.
- 39:01So yeah, that was so cool that I got to have a song like, you
- 39:04know, a remix of like their biggest song that's been
- 39:08amazing. And even that like opened up the
- 39:10door more for like, oh, like DJ and more and people asking me to
- 39:12do remix of their songs. And like, I think my artist
- 39:15world really flows as it does. Like, I, I, I really try to let
- 39:19go of my artist thing and just like, whatever happens really
- 39:21happens. And they're like, whoever wants
- 39:23to work, I'll work with them or collaborate or perform or do
- 39:26this. But yeah, that.
- 39:28Was what else is coming up for you for your own artist project?
- 39:30I have so many songs I've been putting together and I think
- 39:34this year, well, definitely, definitely gonna see a lot more
- 39:38of like releasing of my own, so much more performing.
- 39:41I would love to go on tour again.
- 39:43That was you were just on tour. So I was just on tour.
- 39:45How was that with Ria Raj? Yeah, my one of my favorite
- 39:49people. She's the coolest person ever.
- 39:51How's it opening for her? So much fun.
- 39:54What's crazy is that at first she wanted me to I was just
- 39:58helping her with her live set. Like I I made a bunch of
- 40:00transitions in this and I made outros to songs and we made this
- 40:04like heavy metal outro to a like the lot like her like closing
- 40:09song, which was so fun. And I actually went on stage and
- 40:11like, played guitar for like that part of the show.
- 40:16While we're making this, she's like, hey, do you want to just
- 40:17open and like DJ and like do a DJ set?
- 40:20And I was like, sure, fuck, I'm down.
- 40:23I will go. And I get, I get merch made and
- 40:25I'm like, I like, I go lean into it completely.
- 40:27I like make T-shirts and hats. And I'm like, fuck it.
- 40:29We're going on tour in December and we went all on the East
- 40:32Coast. It was freezing cold, was
- 40:34snowing. Every day.
- 40:35Oh my God, it. Was snowing everywhere and I was
- 40:38like, I just like was it was like the such a fun way to end
- 40:42the year. It was such a good experience
- 40:44and it got me so excited. Like damn I I do like
- 40:47performing. Yeah.
- 40:48This is fun, like this is actually really fun and I I
- 40:51really see myself doing. I would love to see myself doing
- 40:53that again, whether it's with Rhea Gun or with any other kind
- 40:57of artists or DJs like I love performing.
- 41:00I think more like festivals this year that.
- 41:02Would be so. Raves and like fun stuff like
- 41:04that and like just like be out there more.
- 41:07I would love to. I would love to be well.
- 41:09How often do DJ because you DJ D last night, How often are you?
- 41:11Doing that was super fun. Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
- 41:14I would say at least every like maybe every other weekend, like
- 41:20for a couple nights, I will DJ somewhere like a club or
- 41:24somewhere a lot of that like I'm either just having fun or it's
- 41:27with friends or like things will like be like set up that are
- 41:30like really cool, like fun clubs and stuff.
- 41:32I'm trying to find like my myself in that world as I'm
- 41:36still like kind of releasing music because I released in a
- 41:38lot of different like vibes and stuff.
- 41:40But I think as I sculpt like a proper like EP or projects,
- 41:44which I would love to like, I don't know, I could say like
- 41:47maybe I'd love to aim for like summer to put out some kind of
- 41:49project and then just like play out everywhere and like that
- 41:52would be really fun. Like I I would love doing that.
- 41:54I'd also love, I do love DJ and more than like, like performing
- 41:59and singing and I like to be like, I really like to just like
- 42:02curate the experience for the night, you know?
- 42:04Cuz I, I produce for a bunch of different artists and it's all
- 42:06gonna be different worlds. And I like to, like, remix some
- 42:08of those songs and just, like, have my take on it and stuff and
- 42:11like, yeah, yeah. What is Slush Puppies World?
- 42:15So like putting together like an EP like you said, yeah, maybe
- 42:17your own body of work because like, you know, with Magdalene
- 42:21and Snow Wife and the projects that you've been working on,
- 42:24like they're so defined, the song direction so clear, the
- 42:27visual identities there. Like what are you imagining for
- 42:29yourself? You know, that's that is the
- 42:32$1,000,000 question to be honest because I love to lot whenever
- 42:36I'm with other artists I can really lock in and like world
- 42:39build with the music. I fucking love World.
- 42:41I'm so I'm so with that when it comes to myself.
- 42:44Yeah, I love everything. I love 50s, sixties, 70s,
- 42:47eighties, 90s, early 2000s, every genre.
- 42:49I literally love so much music where it mad.
- 42:52I was like, oh, what is me? But honestly, what I've learned,
- 42:54it's like whatever, I just sit down and create like that's me.
- 42:58Like that's it's cool, you know? So 100%, I think we're gonna, I
- 43:02think we're gonna watch that unfold and I think it's gonna
- 43:05happen more naturally than planned for Slush Puppy.
- 43:08That's awesome. Yeah.
- 43:09And on if you like, like you said to especially working with
- 43:11these artists like with Snow and then with Magdalene, like that
- 43:15was organic, you know? Incredibly organic creating it
- 43:18just like I think it. The puzzle pieces kind of fit
- 43:22together. I think right now I have this
- 43:24like a couple pieces of slush puppy and I'm I'm just going to
- 43:28keep connecting pieces instead of trying to like just like get
- 43:31that one piece and make it perfect.
- 43:32Interesting. Like I want to like just kind
- 43:34of. Like that's so you too see how
- 43:35it is action and like you. Don't I just like trying to be
- 43:37Polish. I'll see what happens.
- 43:38Like you really don't know. You know, you can plan for a
- 43:41whole thing. Like even last night I was like
- 43:44DJ and the Hillary McDonough, Hillary Duff thing.
- 43:47And I like I go up there. I was like, oh deep, everyone's
- 43:49going to freak out at my set. I play this like hard techno,
- 43:53fucking crazy remix thing that I made and I I play it and
- 43:56everyone's just like dead and I'm like.
- 43:58Well, fuck me. I was like, damn, I just planned
- 44:01a lot of this. So I was like, great, let's do
- 44:03something complete. So like I, I think just like I
- 44:05go with the flow. Whatever is going to happen,
- 44:07happens especially. In the live.
- 44:08Audience yeah I think I have like an idea of the next single
- 44:11for myself but like oh shit I I think there's like a few
- 44:15different options and. It's going to be you played me
- 44:17before this. We're so kind, Oh my God.
- 44:19Great, so fucking kind, Oh my God.
- 44:21And very surprising, like I was talking to another artist and he
- 44:27was like listening to my project and he was like, you know,
- 44:30what'd be good is like people get surprised.
- 44:32Like you want to have elements in there that like we'll have
- 44:34those and be like, oh, that's interesting.
- 44:35And when you're playing me your things, I was like, what the
- 44:37fuck? What just happened like.
- 44:40Yeah, it's crazy. That's how honestly, I I think
- 44:42that's my favorite. That's my favorite part of
- 44:46music. Like for me I I hate boring
- 44:49music. Yeah, I got that.
- 44:50I. Genuinely hate it unless it's
- 44:52supposed to be that vibe. Does that make sense?
- 44:55Yes. Is that terrible to say?
- 44:56Like, there's some artists that are meant to be kind of boring.
- 44:59Yeah, but it works and I love it because like I'll put on the car
- 45:02I'm driving through like the desert or something.
- 45:05And it's just like, I don't wanna say boring, but like, you
- 45:06know, like simple or. You don't need to be active.
- 45:09Exactly, like I don't need it crazy.
- 45:11Like if I'm listening to some like guy like playing guitar
- 45:13singing, I don't need a crazy drop in a breakdown and like a
- 45:16switch. Like I just like a good song.
- 45:18You know what I mean? Right.
- 45:19So but for me, I think it's like my like ADHD or just like who I
- 45:23am as a human being is like I if I'm listening to something after
- 45:27like a couple measures, I'm like something new, something new,
- 45:31new element switch up. Oh, what if it went here?
- 45:33What if this chord change like I just love, I love wowing.
- 45:37It's honestly people like, but you like to wow the listener.
- 45:39It's like honestly, I just like to keep myself interested, you
- 45:43know? Absolutely so.
- 45:44You played me like the original, the first balance of DJ Jesus,
- 45:48and then I was like my favorite parts of song weren't even at
- 45:50it, weren't even in that 1 yet. And then I was like, when it
- 45:53gets to the final and then like the vocals and everything.
- 45:57So stacking, it keeps getting bigger.
- 45:59Yeah, it goes crazy. I love to start a session with
- 46:02just like the foundation of the song.
- 46:03You can always add so much more to it.
- 46:06It's it's I really like to like make the the just the song, just
- 46:11the bones a simple be a good this and then I like really take
- 46:15it thereafter. Like the song is done 'cause
- 46:17like when you're making sometimes when you go too crazy
- 46:19and too experimental, like right as you're going, it's just like,
- 46:22oh, like everything just like compiles.
- 46:24And like, once you have a great song, you can just like add
- 46:27moments and add sections and change chords and reharmonize
- 46:29things like building. Things out.
- 46:31Yeah, I literally almost reharm every chorus that I do.
- 46:35Yeah. Oh my gosh, like your process is
- 46:37crazy. Like, you know what I mean?
- 46:38Like, yeah, it's so unique. Speak to me.
- 46:40And like I've working with different producers and hearing
- 46:42like how you're doing it. Like it's very unique.
- 46:45Thank you. It's very unique and it comes
- 46:46out like so you anything that's so special.
- 46:49Thank you. I love that.
- 46:50You know, what's crazy is I I like wish I can see that through
- 46:54someone else's lenses because like it's so hard to to see that
- 46:56myself. Like I feel like I just like.
- 46:58Do my, I mean, I'm essentially being introduced to you.
- 47:00So like everything I'm learning about you, talking to you,
- 47:02everything we just did. Like when you play me your
- 47:03songs, I was like, this is so much and like, there's a world
- 47:07that you already exist in, right?
- 47:08Like talking about building this EP, this project, whatever you
- 47:11want to do. Yeah, I'm like, it is literally
- 47:12there, like. It's so you, yeah, thank you.
- 47:15That that honestly helps. I think when people tell me that
- 47:18I'm like, yeah, OK, great, that's awesome.
- 47:20You know what I mean? Like cool.
- 47:21That makes me not like think about it.
- 47:22Like I'm just like, I'll just do like.
- 47:24I think it's so easy to just like, I think too many questions
- 47:29in your head about your artistry and your project like fucks up
- 47:32everything. Yeah, totally.
- 47:33Just really in your head. About just flow, just do your
- 47:35thing. Just.
- 47:36See what's up? Maybe you gotta just.
- 47:37Jump. You don't learn how to swim on
- 47:39the land, you just jump in I. Love it.
- 47:42Let it RIP. There you go.
- 47:43That's kind. Of how you've been living with
- 47:45everything you've been saying this entire.
- 47:46A lot of things you've just had, honestly you're.
- 47:47Kind of like fuck it, let's do. It, I mean, yeah, no, honestly.
- 47:50And I think that's like, I think anything I've had that has been
- 47:53like successful literally was like not so strategic.
- 47:57It was really just like, wow, we just this came around and we did
- 48:01it right. And you go with your gut, trust
- 48:03yourself, trust your instincts and like just like do what you
- 48:06believe. You know, it's like if you be
- 48:09yourself, there were the right fans will connect with you.
- 48:11Like the right people will like it, the right fans will like it.
- 48:14It's like. I love that.
- 48:15Simplest analogy is like, you know, when you're like high
- 48:18school and like you're a freshman and you're weird and no
- 48:21one knows you. I'm not saying you, I'm saying
- 48:23like in general, but like, you know what I mean?
- 48:26No, I'm saying like me right now.
- 48:27Yeah. Honestly, the same.
- 48:29I remember I was like, I was so nervous to like go to high
- 48:31school and. And but you know what I did?
- 48:33I show up and I had like maybe like my Hot Topic, like My
- 48:38Chemical Romance T-shirt or like your.
- 48:40Carrie Underwood shirt. Yeah, we've progressed.
- 48:43Yeah, we've evolved. I'd show up in like AT shirt of
- 48:47my favorite band. Yeah.
- 48:50And then whoever compliments my shirt is someone that also likes
- 48:54that band. And then we're friends.
- 48:57And now that's a good friend of, you know what I mean?
- 49:00It's like a, a simple, that's like the most simple thing.
- 49:02It's like if you make, if you be your true self and you make
- 49:06music that's authentic to you, this whoever's going to just
- 49:08like it actually likes it, you know what I mean?
- 49:11Versus if I show up and I try to look like everybody else and I
- 49:13work and I see other people doing this and I try to be that
- 49:15I'm going to become friends with them because I'm trying to.
- 49:18You don't enforce anything. You can't like, you have to just
- 49:20be yourself and like, I love fuck 'cause he's gonna fight
- 49:22with you like. Yeah, absolutely.
- 49:24That's, I think like a lot of artists overthink their project,
- 49:26their work and stuff. And like exactly we said, when
- 49:27you take your head out of it, you just do the work, you put
- 49:29make the music, you see what feels right.
- 49:31That's when it's the best and people hear it too.
- 49:34Oh, that was imperceptible, people.
- 49:36Hear it. I could definitely hear that.
- 49:37Like when, when artists like feel more manufactured or like,
- 49:40there's a lot more going on there rather than like, I want
- 49:42to hear the artist. I want to hear their.
- 49:44Thoughts I want to hear. Absolutely.
- 49:44I love when people just do their thing.
- 49:47It always is better than everyone else's, you know what I
- 49:50mean? I agree.
- 49:51Like it's so. Yeah, it doesn't.
- 49:53Yeah. Like a lot of people love to try
- 49:55'cause you know people will, other producers will meet a
- 49:57producer like me that is so much more like blown out and like my
- 50:00things are so like just like loud and honestly in my head,
- 50:03it's just like, it's like a shittier sound, but like, it's
- 50:06like kind of like my aesthetic and like the vibe that I produce
- 50:09in. And they'll be like, I really
- 50:10want to try to do this. I was like, honestly, you kill
- 50:12what you do, like you crush it. Like do what you do and like you
- 50:15add elements. And I'll always like, I love
- 50:17learning from other producers. I always learn different tricks
- 50:20and things and I'll teach, I'll fucking.
- 50:22I give everyone my sample packs and.
- 50:25That's so nice. Serum patches that I make like
- 50:27no, you don't need a gate cube. It doesn't.
- 50:29I hate you can people people love to learn and and and
- 50:32incorporate that into their thing, you know, but yeah, like
- 50:35once you can kind of like just like learn the vibes.
- 50:39I don't know, I'm kind of contradicting everything I'm
- 50:40saying a little bit, but. Not at all.
- 50:41Does that make sense? Like, I don't know.
- 50:43I think like be collaborative, have fun, but like do what you
- 50:48think, build off of things, like do things in your you could
- 50:50always. I really love.
- 50:52Yeah, I like collaborative, like producing and like writing with
- 50:57people. You just like, you know, best
- 50:59idea wins. You just like, keep pushing.
- 51:01Like I think some of you go by yourself.
- 51:02Like the ceiling is whatever you are.
- 51:04Yeah, if you have more people, I think that ceiling can go up.
- 51:07Something that I've like, I'm cuz I'm working on my project
- 51:09right now. Like what I've learned is like I
- 51:11had such an ego going into it and I was like, very like, I
- 51:14don't want to write with people. I don't want to work like blah,
- 51:16blah. And then my producer was like
- 51:18really encouraging me to like write with other people, like
- 51:21get other people in the sessions with me, etcetera.
- 51:23And I was like, OK, fine, I'll do it viral.
- 51:25And then every single artist I've worked with, every
- 51:27songwriter worked with, every producer I've worked with has
- 51:29been like, you got to do what's best for the song.
- 51:31And I feel like for me it's it took my ego out of it.
- 51:33Like, OK, you know what? If someone has a better idea
- 51:34than me, then fuck it. Like if it's a better, if it's
- 51:37better than mine, fuck it. And then I feel like that's
- 51:39what's making the music better. And it's elevating too, because
- 51:42like, I don't want to be, I don't want to have that much of
- 51:44an ego with it because like, it sucks like.
- 51:47Someone else is going to get better.
- 51:48Yeah, in this 100%. I think when you're an artist,
- 51:52you can have also more of like a who I do hear something for
- 51:56myself and I love it that way. I think when like in the
- 51:59production world and producing and stuff and writing, like
- 52:01there's a lot of like rooms where it's like you're making a
- 52:03pitch song and you're working people.
- 52:04And like if anyone has an ego in that room, like, what are we
- 52:08even doing? Like it's, we're collaborate.
- 52:10We're not even, there's not even an artist in the room.
- 52:12We're just writing for just like whatever, like writing a song.
- 52:15We'll see if anything's good. Yeah.
- 52:18Just like you're saying, you know, I love it.
- 52:20But yeah, for my stuff, specifically for my artist
- 52:23projects, I would love to do sessions with other people.
- 52:27I've never really done that in a long time.
- 52:29For yourself? Yeah, like other.
- 52:31Producers. That could be fun.
- 52:33I'm just brainstorming right now.
- 52:35I'm totally open for that. Like I would do that.
- 52:38My producer, he didn't even produce his own album like he
- 52:42had other people produce his album.
- 52:43That's kind of crazy. I.
- 52:45I like that. Like with Snow wife and
- 52:47Magdalene, like finding you and like being so invested in their
- 52:50project. That's totally, you know, that's
- 52:51like that's what I want. Like, I would love to work with,
- 52:53like, like someone who really sees the vision and flashes out,
- 52:56you know, builds the world with me.
- 52:58It's the same thing that we're talking about.
- 52:59It's just like someone that just like talks with you and just
- 53:02like likes you. It's that simple and someone
- 53:05that can see it with you and just want to build off of you.
- 53:08Also, it's also not always about, I think another analogy.
- 53:14Here's my analogy. The whole all I'm saying it's
- 53:18like, I love, it's like you can a lot of producers like find
- 53:20artists like I'm going to RIP out this flower and throw this
- 53:23new flower in there and just like make it work.
- 53:24It's like you got to just like there's like there's the seeds
- 53:28are there and you just like water it, put it in the sun,
- 53:31make it right, right. And it will find its way.
- 53:33It's always the garden. A garden is the best analogy.
- 53:36The garden and the butterflies. Yeah, absolutely.
- 53:39You what's there, there's a great, there's, there's some,
- 53:42there's seeds there and you've got to put it in the right
- 53:44environment to. Grow a perspective for like
- 53:47being a producer, working of artists.
- 53:48Yeah. So I think a lot of artists,
- 53:50like have a clear vision or idea of what they want, but it needs
- 53:52to be nurtured and like totally, you know, there needs to be some
- 53:55guidance there and like. You find the people that have
- 53:57the seeds and have what it is and then you put them in the
- 54:01right environment and they are going to blossom.
- 54:03Love it and you make them the best music.
- 54:05You know, there's, there's certain types of artists that
- 54:07they'll be like kids that make like, you know, like country
- 54:10folk music or something. And I was like, I was like, I
- 54:12personally like, I love that stuff.
- 54:13I'm, I'm just like, I'm not the guy.
- 54:15I'm not going to like, try to make them anything.
- 54:17They're not like people that do their thing.
- 54:18I love when they do their thing, anything that I see that when I
- 54:21want to collaborate and it makes sense of them, I'm like, Oh yes,
- 54:23like, oh, let's do this. I love that.
- 54:25Let's make it, let's make it right.
- 54:26And that's my goal for I want, I love, I want to make albums with
- 54:29people and I want to collaborate.
- 54:31I really want to do albums. I'm like.
- 54:33I'm so sick of these bodies of work people.
- 54:34I'm sick of these singles. Yeah, people don't fuck.
- 54:36With bodies of work anymore. And like, that's why for me,
- 54:38like I was talking to my team about it and I was like, like,
- 54:41so what's the plan? We're going to do singles, we're
- 54:42rolling out EPS and I was like, I'm making an album, we're doing
- 54:45an album. This is going to be an album.
- 54:46This is going to be a world, this is going to be a body work.
- 54:48I'm I don't want to go in with the intention.
- 54:50I'm like, let's just drop songs and see what it does.
- 54:52Like I'm making an album. We're putting out an album.
- 54:54That is what we're doing. Because I love albums.
- 54:56I love bodies of work. I love like things that are
- 54:58cohesive. That's why I love the Magdalene
- 55:00project. It's so cohesive and it's such a
- 55:03great project and the cohesion, I feel like a lot of modern day
- 55:07artists lose that. I feel like it's a lot of albums
- 55:10feel like playlists now. Totally.
- 55:11And that's why I like they feel like they.
- 55:12Throw them together and that's the album 1. 100%.
- 55:15Which like that like used to be the thing a little bit like it
- 55:19used to not be the thing like way back.
- 55:21But then I think with like the Internet TikTok era of music, it
- 55:25was just like, let's do a bunch of singles and whatever there's
- 55:27together. Here's an album, you know, like
- 55:29no one's dropping out. But now it's like back at it.
- 55:31People are VPS are cool again. A.
- 55:33Lot of the artists that come on the show we're talking about
- 55:35like their projects. I'm always like, thank God, that
- 55:38is like, you want to make an album.
- 55:40Aim for it. Like it.
- 55:41It's like it's always the move, Yeah.
- 55:43Even if it doesn't like right away, get the same numbers of
- 55:46just like one single, like it will stand forever and people
- 55:49will find that shit. Like people look back and when
- 55:51you have your big moment, people will look back and be like, wow,
- 55:54this artistry is amazing. Look, there's an album here or
- 55:56three people here. It's just like.
- 55:58You want. That's what's.
- 55:58Impressive 100% and I'd love to do an album, even a slash,
- 56:01probably album 100% dude, that's coming and I know what it is and
- 56:05I'm just letting it like I'm. Telling you the things that you.
- 56:07Played I'm not in the. Studio.
- 56:08I was like what the fuck? Crazy.
- 56:10Why didn't you all put these out?
- 56:11That is insane. I that's that's good to hear.
- 56:15Honestly, I'm I'm in the works of that.
- 56:16I'm in the works of that. I think I'm really going to try
- 56:18to lock in. I've I have some upcoming like I
- 56:21have some trips and just things happening, but once my schedule
- 56:24like chills. I mean, I want to take like a
- 56:26couple weeks and just lock out and just like do the slush puppy
- 56:30project for the year. Oh fuck yeah.
- 56:31And just put it. Out also, like underrated.
- 56:33You have such a great voice, really.
- 56:35I was telling you like, wow, yeah, you're playing me like a
- 56:38chorus that you did on the guitar.
- 56:40And I was like, you have such a great voice.
- 56:42Wow, Oh my God, I think, you know, it's so funny.
- 56:43I don't know if people like even I don't sing a lot.
- 56:46Like there's some songs you'll find me like singing on, but
- 56:48like I've always like avoided singing.
- 56:51It's hard, you know, sometimes, like you never know if you're a
- 56:53good singer, but. Oh yeah, I know.
- 56:54Terrible. No, I'm like, I'm a terrible
- 56:55singer. So like, yeah, but but you have
- 56:58a great. Voice.
- 56:58Thank you very. Much.
- 56:59It's so good, like when you're playing that I was like what the
- 57:02fuck, dude? Like.
- 57:03I think people will hear more of that this year.
- 57:05Good. I would love a Slush Puppy
- 57:07album. We got to make it happen.
- 57:11Yeah. So I want to ask you, I ask all
- 57:14my guests that come on the show, what is your most delulu take?
- 57:17What is the most delusional thing that you think to be
- 57:20anything? What do you have?
- 57:22The most switch up question delulu take.
- 57:24Delulu, take what you got. Take Oh my God, give me an
- 57:29example I don't like I really OK I.
- 57:32Think the odds are stacked against me, genuinely.
- 57:34I think I have a great team and I have a lot going for me, but I
- 57:39think as a queer Asian person, I don't really see myself finding
- 57:43mainstream success. But I really am I true Lulu do
- 57:47Lulu. I really think I could be the
- 57:48biggest pop star in the world. I really do believe that.
- 57:50I love that. And I like, I keep telling
- 57:52myself like, be realistic, be realistic.
- 57:53I'm like, oh, I don't know, like there's not, there's not really
- 57:56a lot of artists that look like you have success that I can look
- 57:59up to. And I'm like, OK, it'll be me.
- 58:01I think I could do it. I think I'm going to make the
- 58:03best fucking pop album of all time, Custom Mission, and I
- 58:07don't. I don't even think that's
- 58:07delulu. I think that's going to happen.
- 58:09So that's mine. For me.
- 58:12What you got? What a question could be
- 58:17anything. Wait, is there like something
- 58:19that I'm like like? What do you think's delulu?
- 58:20What's a little crazy A. Little crazy.
- 58:22A little crazy. There's a part of me, OK, that
- 58:26is like, not incredibly unlikely, but it's not likely.
- 58:31This is insane, by the way. I'm going to sound crazy.
- 58:33There's a part of me, yeah, that at any day could wake up and
- 58:38just like. Be done with this.
- 58:40Be done with this, be a plumber and like move to like Montana or
- 58:44something. What's the 100% like love?
- 58:47It's, it's higher than people think for sure, but it's so
- 58:51weird to say that out loud. But like, I actually there's a
- 58:54part of me that would be so fine.
- 58:57All your artists are shaking. Right now.
- 58:58I know, right? I know.
- 58:59I hate. That I'm shaking.
- 59:00Right now I would be you want so crazy, I'll be fine.
- 59:02You know what's crazy? I would still make music and
- 59:03have a good time, but like it's the it's it probably will not
- 59:10happen right anytime soon, but we can't let that happen.
- 59:12We can't let that happen. But I think that it's that's my,
- 59:17that's my delusional. Just is that delusional?
- 59:19That is so. Delulu.
- 59:21But it's crazy as I'm closer to doing that than people probably
- 59:23would think. Yeah.
- 59:25I'm opposite I think. But I love it.
- 59:27I love like the mystery like I don't like totally.
- 59:30You know what? I.
- 59:30Mean. I like being spontaneous.
- 59:32I like just doing shit that's just like.
- 59:34You're so uncomplicated. I feel like everything you said
- 59:36this entire podcast, you're like, let's see what's up.
- 59:41You're like, fuck it. And it's been.
- 59:42Working out, they caught me out a good day.
- 59:43I think sometimes I'll get a little fucking.
- 59:45Crazy. Oh shit.
- 59:46OK, OK. Maybe that's the Lulu, maybe
- 59:47that. We did that.
- 59:48We we got into that last night like I'm so.
- 59:50Oh yeah, I'm so we had a big night.
- 59:53We did. Surprised that we're both here
- 59:54right now, honestly. So I.
- 59:55Could not I I don't even know how that we made it in, but you
- 59:59know, we did it and see this is good.
- 1:00:01You're having a good. Time.
- 1:00:02That was amazing. Right.
- 1:00:04You're having a really great time.
- 1:00:05Well, we close out every show by manifesting together.
- 1:00:10Do you have anything that you want to speak into existence
- 1:00:12here? On to Lulu.
- 1:00:13This show makes superstars, by the way, so manifested.
- 1:00:17At the right place. You're at the right place.
- 1:00:20Manifest. Let's see.
- 1:00:22I want to manifest. I want to manifest the such
- 1:00:24Puppy album. Me too.
- 1:00:26I want to manifest that. I so want to, I don't.
- 1:00:27Need to manifest anything else, really.
- 1:00:29Success to everyone that I work with.
- 1:00:31Yeah, of course. Success to my family and
- 1:00:36happiness to people. We want them to be happy.
- 1:00:38I want people to be happy from manifest.
- 1:00:40And their gardens. Happiness in their gardens.
- 1:00:42Build your gardens. Don't chase the butterflies.
- 1:00:45Just kill them. Kill the butterflies.
- 1:00:48Kill the other ones that eat the What is it the?
- 1:00:53Caterpillars, no. Caterpillars are butterflies.
- 1:00:57OK, right. Am I wrong?
- 1:00:59Let the butterflies do as they. Do whatever.
- 1:01:02Great analogy, you know. I love that I live by that
- 1:01:03fucking analogy. Prolific Analogies.
- 1:01:05Prolific. My new vocabulary for the day
- 1:01:07too. There you go.
- 1:01:08I love that. Well, anyways, let's see.
- 1:01:10Manifest. Yeah, Honestly, slash puppy
- 1:01:12album. I manifest.
- 1:01:13I'm gonna manifest it. I think I'm manifesting that.
- 1:01:15Too. It would be so cool, it'd be so
- 1:01:16fun, and I feel like it would like, I want it to be a
- 1:01:19reflection of all of me. Absolutely everything that you.
- 1:01:23Love into one project? That might be hard, but.
- 1:01:26I think, like you said, it's gonna be cohesive.
- 1:01:28It's like you have such a distinctive style with
- 1:01:30production and like even your own music.
- 1:01:32We were talking about it like the music you produce for other
- 1:01:34artists and when you work with other artists is so different
- 1:01:37than what you put out under your own project.
- 1:01:39Like it? Sounds so different it honestly.
- 1:01:41Yeah, it is. That's just how it.
- 1:01:44I don't know. That's how it goes.
- 1:01:46That's how it is for me. Yeah.
- 1:01:47I just like to tap into whatever.
- 1:01:48I love music, so I'm just like, do whatever I hear.
- 1:01:51I'm like, oh, great, I'm going to do my thing with that.
- 1:01:53I love, you know. Yeah, that's super inspiring.
- 1:01:56Thank you. Honestly, like I've learned so
- 1:01:58much from talking to you, like on here on camera.
- 1:02:00Then also like, like before we start shooting because like, I'm
- 1:02:03getting into all of this and I'm like literally digesting
- 1:02:06everything you're saying. You have such a different
- 1:02:09perspective than most of the people I've been meeting in the
- 1:02:11music industry, different artists and different producers.
- 1:02:14Like, it's really refreshing. It actually gives me hope.
- 1:02:17Like Oh my God, amazing. Yeah, I'm like, wait, this is
- 1:02:19super sick. You're like, such a cool person.
- 1:02:21Oh my God. And I feel like it's rare to
- 1:02:22find cool people in the music industry.
- 1:02:23Like genuinely like, it's hard. Yeah, and.
- 1:02:27It's so competitive and people are so cutthroat and people.
- 1:02:29Yeah, you know, the advice I would give is just just chill
- 1:02:32out and you can just have fun like you think.
- 1:02:36No, but I honestly, I I love doing this.
- 1:02:38This is so fun. I I never really I've really
- 1:02:41never done this. I've never not a lot of people
- 1:02:42hear me speak this way or or this personal like this up
- 1:02:47close. I'm so grateful you're on.
- 1:02:48Let me, let me ask you, how's it for you?
- 1:02:50How's being on the show for you? Great.
- 1:02:54You're like I just said it. No, the only ask the question
- 1:03:00again. How?
- 1:03:00How's it been? Because I know you don't do this
- 1:03:02often. Is it nice to be?
- 1:03:04Able to talk. It is so nice.
- 1:03:05It is so nice to let go, you know, it's I'm can't believe I'm
- 1:03:08gonna say this. At one point I have forgotten
- 1:03:10that there's cameras here filming us.
- 1:03:11Wait, did I ask? I literally have just been
- 1:03:13chilling talking to you. I know.
- 1:03:14And my brain has disappeared and now I know there's cameras.
- 1:03:17And now I'm getting a little nervous.
- 1:03:18But no weirdness. I forgot.
- 1:03:20I forgot that there's been cameras.
- 1:03:22I literally we locked in. We locked in.
- 1:03:24We were killing it. Yeah, I think it would be good.
- 1:03:26I feel like I wanted an extension of like when we were
- 1:03:28talking prior to this, I was like, wait, we're really, really
- 1:03:30getting into it, like, and everything was so sick.
- 1:03:33Yeah, no, I this has been a great experience.
- 1:03:35I'm I'm very glad I could like, talk and and like, be real.
- 1:03:40It's awesome, like to explore your world because there's not a
- 1:03:42lot that I could find about you anyways, right?
- 1:03:45So it's like not being able to sit down and directly ask you
- 1:03:47and like figure things. Out this is about to be this
- 1:03:49might be the one only thing I ever do that is out there that
- 1:03:52so if you want to get to know me, that's it holy.
- 1:03:54I'll do more. I'll do more you.
- 1:03:55Know don't make an exclusive for Dilulu.
- 1:03:57No, this is it. This is it.
- 1:03:58This is literally so. The one if you want to find out
- 1:04:01more, it's only on here. I love that.
- 1:04:03Seriously, thank you so much for fucking coming on this is.
- 1:04:05Crazy. Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:04:07Like thank you for being open to it of.
- 1:04:08Course I I this early in the morning after after DJ 4:00 AM
- 1:04:13Ranger. Yeah, when everyone's expecting
- 1:04:15Hillary dump. No, we pulled through.
- 1:04:17We really did it. Oh my gosh, that was I lost my
- 1:04:20voice. I really lost my voice when I
- 1:04:22was talking to you last night. I was like, I already knew it
- 1:04:24was going. Yeah, no, I love it.
- 1:04:26I had it. Yeah, I was in the most like,
- 1:04:29Miami fit. I was in this like Hawaiian mash
- 1:04:33shirt that like my roommate put on me.
- 1:04:36He's like, oh, you got to wear this.
- 1:04:37This is so good. I was like OK and.
- 1:04:38This is what we're wearing. Yeah, yeah, I revealed.
- 1:04:41I wear hats all the time, but I just got a haircut and it's like
- 1:04:46shorter than it's ever been. And in my head I was like, you
- 1:04:48know what? It looks great.
- 1:04:48It's a cute hair. I love it.
- 1:04:50I was actually looking at your hair the entire time you were
- 1:04:52talking and I was like. Wow, 'cause I got your hair.
- 1:04:54Really. Oh, I don't know.
- 1:04:56Oh yeah, 'cause I dyed it black. Well, we can't talk about that
- 1:04:59right now. I've never seen you with other
- 1:05:02hairs, so you know what, you're right.
- 1:05:03So I'm. Traditionally blonde.
- 1:05:05I'm traditionally blonde but we went black.
- 1:05:10For you're blonde. I'm.
- 1:05:12Blonde, but sometimes I could never see you as blonde really.
- 1:05:16But like, I usually have a lot longer hair than I.
- 1:05:17Think we're going to see a lot more blonde.
- 1:05:22Sorry, sorry. Anyways, we're going to see a
- 1:05:23lot more. Blonde hidden, hidden.
- 1:05:25I love. Easter egg I love.
- 1:05:27The Easter egg. And you know what?
- 1:05:28I have no subtleties, so we might.
- 1:05:30Might we might. I promise people that there's
- 1:05:33probably an album for myself. So now I need to get to work.
- 1:05:35And yeah, I'm going to hold you to it.
- 1:05:36Yeah, personally and I have requests based on what you have
- 1:05:39played me. Oh please.
- 1:05:40Yeah, absolutely. Oh my God, all the requests.
- 1:05:43This was super fun. Seriously, this is a real time.
- 1:05:45I'm happy that we did this. We should.
- 1:05:46Maybe we, I'll even, I'd come back in like a year, a year from
- 1:05:50today. When the Slash Puppy album is
- 1:05:51out. And we'll be like, what's up?
- 1:05:53We're back. OK, we're going to hold you to
- 1:05:55it. I will be here for the second.
- 1:05:57Yeah, the second. Interview the only thing that
- 1:05:59you'll do. Yeah.
- 1:06:00Nothing else. Yeah.
- 1:06:01Just do Lulu. OK.
- 1:06:02You love it. Thank you so much.
- 1:06:04I'll do it. This was so fun.
- 1:06:05Yeah, seriously. I learned a lot from you.
- 1:06:07But besties, thank you so much for watching this episode of Do
- 1:06:11Lulu. This was your healthy dose of Do
- 1:06:12Lulu. So now you can go live.
- 1:06:13You're true Lulu slash puppy bestie.
- 1:06:15Where can the bestie on us find you?
- 1:06:18Instagram is it's actually not slush puppy, it's slush ppy.
- 1:06:24So minus the EU it's taken. You know, it's crazy.
- 1:06:27I found the person that has the actual at yes, and I can't tell
- 1:06:31if it's like a scam or whatever, but they're like asking like so
- 1:06:35much money really, and I'll get it.
- 1:06:37And in my head I was like, do I just drop up and see what
- 1:06:39happens? No, yours is cute.
- 1:06:40But I kind of like mine just so slush ppy.
- 1:06:42But yeah, but you. Know what?
- 1:06:43All of us report that account and then we'll get that.
- 1:06:45That is my Instagram and my TikTok slush ppy my Spotify
- 1:06:50slash puppy. Yeah, my phone number is not
- 1:06:54right now. Give it all the time.
- 1:06:56What's your social? My social Social Security.
- 1:06:58What is this? Oh, Social Security.
- 1:07:02I don't know. OK, that's a great question
- 1:07:05mothers made. It's somewhere.
- 1:07:07Oh my God. Wow.
- 1:07:08No, don't give it to. Us.
- 1:07:09Let's do it alone. No, I didn't know.
- 1:07:10These the street you grew up on? No, you don't need.
- 1:07:12To know any of them? I don't know any of these stuff,
- 1:07:14no. It's probably better than you
- 1:07:15don't. Yeah, it's probably better.
- 1:07:16Security questions. Hey, wait.
- 1:07:17I want to guess your Zodiac sign based on everything.
- 1:07:20You're really chill. Taurus.
- 1:07:22Aquarius. Close to Taurus Aries.
- 1:07:25No, Gemini. Gemini, yes, I was out to over
- 1:07:29right there, but I'm like I'm like, I think I'm on the cusp.
- 1:07:32OK. Of Taurus or Toro, are you, are
- 1:07:35you 20? May, sorry, early June, super
- 1:07:37early, late May, yeah, late May. You're May 20. 4th Very close to
- 1:07:41Taurus. May 24th.
- 1:07:42That totally makes. I think I'm like maybe on the.
- 1:07:44I think I'm on the yeah. The 22nd.
- 1:07:46Well, it depends on the year. Okay, depends.
- 1:07:48On the year 21st or 22nd, you're really.
- 1:07:49Close on the 24th, so okay, yeah, so I'm fairly close that.
- 1:07:52Makes sense Air sign but. Yeah, I think, I think in the
- 1:07:57Gemini world, like I see it like I can, I can be really chill and
- 1:08:01then I like have fun and like be loud and party and stuff.
- 1:08:04That's. What's nice about?
- 1:08:05Being a Gemini, what adaptable. Adaptable.
- 1:08:08You're an air sign. I actually have this here
- 1:08:10because everyone always asked me what I am and for a while I
- 1:08:12didn't know. I've always forgot if I was a
- 1:08:14Toro or sorry. Fuck me Taurus.
- 1:08:17Taurus and a Gemini right? You want so funny about Geminis
- 1:08:20that I also see. This is what I noticed is
- 1:08:22Geminis. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe this is
- 1:08:25just like my experience, but like, it almost seems like
- 1:08:28Geminis is the sign that cares the least about Zodiac signs out
- 1:08:32of everybody else. Every time I meet all my
- 1:08:34friends, I'll have a lot of Gemini friends.
- 1:08:36I'm like best friends, Gemini, and it's like it's always like
- 1:08:40none of them care about none of them.
- 1:08:42No one is such a bad rap too, yeah.
- 1:08:44Which like, how do you feel about?
- 1:08:46That. I do agree.
- 1:08:48I don't I don't think about it. I don't really care.
- 1:08:50And in my head I'm like, well, I'm I'm not the one like think
- 1:08:53about Zodiac signs like yeah, totally.
- 1:08:55I'm not. I don't wanna is it bad if I
- 1:08:56don't like believe in it just. Tattoo it on yourself.
- 1:08:58No, I literally have it here for the reason I was like, I have it
- 1:09:01like on like it. It sounds like I care about it.
- 1:09:03I really. Yeah, I yeah, especially living
- 1:09:05in Lai was like, I'm just gonna get this.
- 1:09:06I don't know when I even got this, but I was like, I was
- 1:09:09like, oh, people will like know what I am.
- 1:09:11I thought that was like maybe a thing that's the matter.
- 1:09:13But yeah, I don't really care that much about Zodiac.
- 1:09:15I will never judge someone based off of it, obviously of things
- 1:09:19they, you know, obviously like they're, they're born like is
- 1:09:22what it is. Right.
- 1:09:23Absolutely. I.
- 1:09:24Can't control it, Yeah, obviously.
- 1:09:27But yeah, Zodiac sign. A very Gemini perspective.
- 1:09:31Too Yeah, like I I, I don't know I don't know what the Gemini
- 1:09:33perspective is I think a lot of oh, you're Gemini so you're blah
- 1:09:35blah blah blah blah and I'm like maybe like what are you like
- 1:09:39when. You hear that?
- 1:09:40Do you feel you agree with it? I don't like I, I don't really
- 1:09:45know, like, I don't care. Like I feel like you are what I
- 1:09:47would see a Gemini as like. Yeah, I think maybe I I think
- 1:09:50yeah. Like, would you?
- 1:09:51Say you're extroverted. Extroverted.
- 1:09:55What does that mean? Like, like the opposite of
- 1:09:57introverted? Yeah, yeah, I'm, I'm prolific.
- 1:10:01Oh, prolific. I'm definitely both.
- 1:10:03I, I think I I'm very introverted at certain times,
- 1:10:06I'm very extroverted at other times.
- 1:10:08Oh my God, right. Same Z so so maybe yeah, Gemini.
- 1:10:11Same Z I'm a Gemini. Too.
- 1:10:12Yeah, and like that's the thing I'm and you know, and people are
- 1:10:16like Geminis are two faced and blah blah.
- 1:10:18Yeah, that's the. Rap I wouldn't.
- 1:10:19I think 2 face is a a weird word for it for me, but I am very I'm
- 1:10:24very kind to people, even if I don't like them.
- 1:10:28I hate to say that that's and that's something.
- 1:10:29You know what's crazy? That's a hot take of mine is can
- 1:10:32I, is that OK to say? Give me I if I don't like, if I
- 1:10:35don't like someone, I will always be friendly to them.
- 1:10:38I will never. I hate to.
- 1:10:39Be really good. I will always be nice to them
- 1:10:41because one, it only helps. It's also, it's just like life
- 1:10:45is too short to just be angry at people and like have these like
- 1:10:47grudges and stuff and think that you know, like, oh, it didn't go
- 1:10:50my way Or this is like I'll always be friendly to people,
- 1:10:52even if they're not like someone that like because one it
- 1:10:55doesn't, it doesn't cost. It doesn't.
- 1:10:58It's not hard to be like friendly and nice, you know?
- 1:11:01Definitely you're better than me.
- 1:11:03I'm like notoriously huge cunt. Like actually like if I.
- 1:11:06Don't like I love it respect big, big respect like I I get
- 1:11:10it. I wish I could be like that.
- 1:11:11I wish I hate. I hate the energy of like oh bad
- 1:11:14vibe and like I was like, let's just be cool and like at the end
- 1:11:18of the day, I don't care if there's any beat like I don't it
- 1:11:21doesn't matter. We got light.
- 1:11:22There's much like much life. That's what we're gonna do.
- 1:11:25Like 'cause you know. LA is such like an insidious
- 1:11:28city and like the people. Oh my God, I've met people here
- 1:11:31that I'm like there's so many. I think a lot of the times where
- 1:11:33I'm like, oh, I'm gonna like move away and my husband like I
- 1:11:35just meet people here. I'm like God right?
- 1:11:37Like am IA reflection of these people.
- 1:11:39That's what's crazy the. Culture is insane, I know, but
- 1:11:41honestly you find your drums everywhere.
- 1:11:43There's really good people everywhere.
- 1:11:44Absolutely. I agree.
- 1:11:46And I think when you find the people, you gotta stick with
- 1:11:47them, yeah. I agree totally 100%.
- 1:11:50This is so good. Yeah, super fun.
- 1:11:52Yeah, seriously. It was a good time.
