Transcript
- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is a Tuesday, it's the
- 0:1628th of October. So glad that you could join me
- 0:20today as today we finished reading the book of Romans.
- 0:23And of course, it's an epistle written by Paul.
- 0:26So the final chapter is always a very personal one where he sends
- 0:29his personal greetings and really reaches out one big heart
- 0:34to the heart of those who will read this letter.
- 0:36It is a beautiful time of connection.
- 0:38And Speaking of connection and communities across distance, I
- 0:42was chatting with one of you wonderful listeners earlier.
- 0:45Well a couple of days ago and they said to me when we
- 0:49travelled we couldn't get a hold of our Spotify account so they
- 0:52had to sign up for a new account and pay for a premium
- 0:56subscription for their month that they were away so they
- 0:58could keep up with the podcast. Hey friends, it doesn't matter
- 1:01where you are, you are able to with any podcast app, download
- 1:06this as a free podcast. So my plan is that no one ever
- 1:10has to pay for, for being able to listen to the Bible and join
- 1:13in as part of this community. So if you are finding it tricky
- 1:16to get this podcast without paying for it, hey, reach out to
- 1:19me and I'll, I'll show you a better way where you can use a
- 1:22different podcast app or even online and access it for free.
- 1:27Because we are a community of friends gathered around God's
- 1:30word. Let us not pay or make money in
- 1:33the process. Let us do this as brothers and
- 1:36sisters, children of a living God.
- 1:39Let's read together Romans chapter 16.
- 1:50I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a Deacon in the
- 1:54church in Sangria. Welcome her and the Lord as one
- 1:58who is worthy of honour among God's people.
- 2:01Help her in whatever she needs for she has been helpful to many
- 2:05and especially to me. Give my greetings to Priscilla
- 2:09and Aquila, my Co workers in the ministry of Christ Jesus.
- 2:13In fact, they once risked their lives for me.
- 2:16I'm thankful to them and so are all the Gentile churches.
- 2:21Also give my greetings to the church that meets in their home.
- 2:25Greet my dear friend Aparnaitus who was the first person from
- 2:29the province of Asia to become a follower of Christ.
- 2:32Give my greetings to Mary who has worked so hard for your
- 2:35benefit. Great Andronicus and Junior, my
- 2:39fellow Jews who were in prison with me.
- 2:42They are highly respected among the apostles and became
- 2:45followers of Christ before I did.
- 2:48Greet Ampletus my dear friend and the Lord.
- 2:51Greet Ibanus, our Co worker in Christ, and my dear friend
- 2:55Stachus. Greet Apelles, a good man whom
- 3:00Christ approves. Give my greetings to the
- 3:03believers from the household of Aristobulus.
- 3:07Greet Herodian, my fellow Jew. Greet the Lord's people from the
- 3:10household of Narcissus. Give my greetings to Trifena and
- 3:15Trifosa, the Lord's workers, and to dear Persis who has worked so
- 3:20hard for the Lord. Greet Rufus, whom the Lord
- 3:24picked out to be his very own, and also his dear mother who has
- 3:29been a mother to me. Give my greetings to
- 3:33asynchronous Phlegon, Hermes, Petrobus, Herma, and the
- 3:39brothers and sisters who meet with them.
- 3:42Give my greetings to Philologous, Julia, Nerius and
- 3:46his sister, and to Olympus and all the believers who meet with
- 3:49them. Greet each other with a sacred
- 3:52kiss. All the churches of Christ send
- 3:55you their greetings. And now I make one more appeal.
- 4:00My dear brothers and sisters, watch out for people who cause
- 4:04divisions and upset people's faith by teaching things
- 4:07contrary to what you've been taught.
- 4:09Stay away from them. Such people are not serving
- 4:13Christ our Lord. They are serving their own
- 4:15personal interests by smooth talk and glowing words.
- 4:20They deceive innocent people, but everyone knows that you are
- 4:24obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy.
- 4:28I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of
- 4:32any wrong. The God of peace will soon crush
- 4:36Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus
- 4:40be with you. Timothy, my fellow worker, sends
- 4:43you his greetings as do Lucius, Jason and Cesipeta, my fellow
- 4:48Jews. I, Tertius, the one writing this
- 4:51letter for Paul, send my greetings to as one of the
- 4:54Lord's followers. Gaius says hello to you.
- 4:58He is my host and also serves as host to the whole church.
- 5:03Erestus, the city treasurer sends you his greetings and so
- 5:06does our brother. Caught us now.
- 5:09All glory to God who is able to make you strong.
- 5:13Just as my good news says, this message about Jesus Christ has
- 5:18revealed his plan for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret
- 5:23from the beginning of time. But now, as the prophets
- 5:26foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is
- 5:31made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too
- 5:36might believe and obey him. All glory to the only wise God
- 5:42through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.
- 5:57Amen. Indeed, Lord Jesus, thank you
- 6:00for this letter to the Romans. Thank you for all that it
- 6:05teaches us. But thank you specifically for
- 6:08this ending where we see that ministry does not happen from
- 6:13one person to the masses, and ministry does not happen in a
- 6:16cold and sterile environment, but it happens through the
- 6:20context of relationship, through loving time spent together.
- 6:25Oh Jesus, show us where in our lives we can invest in these
- 6:30relationships, these relationships that would shine
- 6:34you and open up the space to talk about you and your love for
- 6:39the other. Jesus, your love is enormous.
- 6:44It is so much bigger than we can possibly wrap our heads around.
- 6:47And as this letter to the Romans finishes, ah, you talk about the
- 6:53fact that your love is for all people everywhere.
- 7:00I pray that you use me and each person praying this prayer that
- 7:04you would inspire us, use us, put us in these positions where
- 7:08your Kingdom can move forward through our words and our
- 7:13behaviour and our love, and that we can always point people to
- 7:17you and your perfect provision and the way that you save them.
- 7:24Ah, we love you and we're so grateful for all that you've
- 7:26done for us and indeed all people everywhere.
- 7:31And we pray all of this in your saving name, Jesus, Amen.
