- 2:43Believe it or not, I don't know if anybody knows this.
- 2:45My name was supposed to be Elliott.
- 2:47That was what my name was supposed to be.
- 2:49When I was born, my mom wanted to give me the name Elliott.
- 2:53My grandmother did not like it. So my mom kind of switched it to
- 2:56Errol because she was a a big Errol Flynn fan, a movie star, a
- 3:00very famous movie star from the 30's, the 40s and the 50s.
- 3:04So I, my grandmother accepted my name to be Errol, but it should
- 3:08have been Elliott. Could you imagine my name
- 3:10Elliott Marx and this is Elliott Marx?
- 3:16Yes, there we are. Errol Flynn in Like Flynn where
- 3:19you do a segment. Thank you fish, but believe it
- 3:22or not, my name was supposed to be Elliot.
- 3:24So I just wanted to give you a throwback if you want to get to
- 3:28know me a little bit more and a little bit more deeper.
- 3:31Yes, my name should have been Elliot Marks.
- 3:33Dicks dominate the Spurs and Force 7 Wemby turnovers.
- 3:38On Sunday afternoon, the Knicks hosted and dominated.
- 3:42The Spurs won 14 to 89 to give the Spurs their first loss since
- 3:48January 31st and the lowest point total they've had in in
- 3:54game in a game this season. After the Spurs took a 19 to 7
- 3:59first quarter lead, the Knicks went on a 26 to two run
- 4:03including Jaylen Bronson having the final eleven points of the
- 4:06first quarter. The Knicks defense led by OJ
- 4:09Nanobi, force 7 Wembe turnovers the second highest total of his
- 4:14career. 6 Knicks players were in double figures including two
- 4:20bench players in Mohammed DORR and recently acquired Jose
- 4:24Alvarado. Karl Anthony Towns, Josh Hart
- 4:26had double double S and Mikkel Bridges led the scoring with 25
- 4:31points on 5/3 pointers to go along with five steals.
- 4:35Outside of Wembe who had 25 points, 13 rebounds and Devin
- 4:40Vessel who had 18 points and Stefan Castles who had 13
- 4:46points, where the only two were the only two players of the
- 4:51Spurs to reach double figures due to the Knicks smothering
- 4:54team defense. The Knicks now have the third
- 4:57best home record in the NBA, 23 and 8, which is amazing only
- 5:02behind the the two number one seeded teams, the Pistons and
- 5:08the Thunders. The Knicks are one of five teams
- 5:11along with the Spurs, the Timberwolves, the Celtics and
- 5:13the Thunder that have or that are top ten in both offensive
- 5:18and defensive efficiency this season.
- 5:23Mike Brown should get a lot of credit for this.
- 5:28I know a lot of people were questioning the Mike Brown hire.
- 5:33Tom Thibodeau was a guy that everybody loved and Tom was a
- 5:36nick through and through. He's really born here in New
- 5:40York. While he was born in
- 5:42Connecticut. He grew up a New York Knicks
- 5:44fan. He came up under Pat Riley and
- 5:46Jeff Van Gundy. We all know the the story behind
- 5:51the Tom Thibodeau story. Mike Brown has grown up as a
- 5:59coach in the NBA behind two successful coaches that have won
- 6:05multiple championships, Greg Popovich and Steve Kerr.
- 6:10Now, everybody knows I'm not a Steve Kerr.
- 6:13Everybody knows, but Steve Kerr plays the triangle offense, a
- 6:18somewhat of a triangle offense. He also was an assistant coach
- 6:24under Greg Popovich as well, Steve Kerr.
- 6:28So his style is, is a unique style.
- 6:32And Mike Brown was under Steve Kerr for a significant amount of
- 6:37time, 2-3 years. He took a Cavalier team before
- 6:42he went to the Spurs in the Golden State Warriors all the
- 6:44way to the Finals. Yes, with LeBron James and they
- 6:48they failed, they lost. But Mike Brown has been a
- 6:53successful assistant and coach in the NBA.
- 6:57Look what he did with Sacramento.
- 7:00He want, if I'm not mistaken, he want coach of the year.
- 7:02I think Thibodeau did, but I think he was he was second.
- 7:07This is a guy that obviously weighed out as welcome over
- 7:10there with Sacramento. It didn't work out over there.
- 7:12Maybe because of the players, maybe because of the
- 7:15organization. It is a a failing organization,
- 7:17one of the worst basketball organizations and professional
- 7:19basketball. But Mike Brown, what he's done
- 7:23with the Knicks, slowly you got to buy in.
- 7:28A lot of people thought that Karl Anthony Towns was not
- 7:30buying in. But over the last couple of
- 7:34weeks, since the All Star break, it's been 2 weeks, he's played
- 7:38better. Now I want to see Karl Anthony
- 7:41Towns do this in the play offs. I want to see Karl Anthony Towns
- 7:44play at a top level when you need him to play at a top level.
- 7:47That's why a lot of people are talking about Giannis if he
- 7:50fails to do so in the play offs once again.
- 7:55But those secondary players, Josh Hart, high pick and roll
- 8:01what they used in this game against the Spurs.
- 8:04And I'll tell you this about the Knicks.
- 8:05This is not something to say. Well, the Knicks were lucky and
- 8:09and, and the Spurs are one of the best teams in the Western
- 8:12Conference and they haven't they haven't lost since January 31st.
- 8:16That's not true, guys. The Knicks beat them in the cup,
- 8:20the cup finals. That's why they won the cup and
- 8:22then it just beat them. They tortured them.
- 8:26Now Mike Brown knows how the Spurs like to run their offense
- 8:28and their defense because it's the same way Greg Popovich likes
- 8:32to run his defense and his offense.
- 8:33So he knows the distinct way they like to run things over
- 8:37there in San Antonio. So the Knicks, it's all about
- 8:42matchups. Everything in in in basketball,
- 8:46you can have the best players in the league, but if if your team
- 8:51matches up against them and you have pests like Jose Alvarado
- 8:56and OG Ananobi, you're going to cause a lot of problems
- 8:59defensively for guys like webbing yama now webbing Yama is
- 9:02one of the best big man in the league.
- 9:04If you can argue he's one of the top six top seven players in all
- 9:07of the NBA. I've been saying this over and
- 9:11over and over again about him as a player.
- 9:15He's 7 foot five. He has these long legs stilt
- 9:19legs. I will say this, if you're a A
- 9:25basketball fan and understand what it takes to be an elite
- 9:30player in this league, and I'm not saying that webbing Yama is
- 9:33not training and going to get bigger and kind of trying to get
- 9:36stronger. He is doing that.
- 9:40But the problem right now with webbing Yama is his development
- 9:45and he'll develop as a young player.
- 9:47He's what, 20 years old, 21 years old, still a kid and his
- 9:50his legs will get stronger, his body will get stronger.
- 9:53But when you're playing against guys that are men, they're going
- 9:56to push you around webbing. Yama is is not a man yet OG and
- 10:01Anobi is a man. This man is a 230 LB, six foot
- 10:0666 foot 7 guard that could defend or a three you could say
- 10:13small forward that can defend multiple positions, all 5
- 10:16positions. And Josh Hart, he's been used in
- 10:24these games as a swing man, a guy that can swing and and do
- 10:31things. The high pick and rolls you,
- 10:32they used them in this game a lot on the high pick and rolls
- 10:35with Jalen Bronson, kind of like a Draymond Green and me and Fish
- 10:39were talking about this off air. What makes the Knicks so unique
- 10:46is if all these guys play at a high level, nobody's going to
- 10:50beat them. Nobody if OG and Nanobi plays
- 10:54this way defensively game in and game out and gives you about 15
- 10:59to 16 points and gives you about 7 to 8 rebounds.
- 11:03And Mikkel Bridges is your third option and can give you 18
- 11:07points and he's he's not going to miss more than he's going to
- 11:09hit and he's going to play shut down defense and rebound 6 or 7
- 11:14rebounds a game. And they have Jalen Brunson
- 11:16that's going to give you 35 to 40.
- 11:18And and Karl Anthony Towns definitely needs to give you 25
- 11:22and 10. If that happens, there's no way
- 11:24the New York Knicks are going to lose against anybody, including
- 11:28OK C, the Spurs, Detroit, the Celtics, when Tatum comes back.
- 11:33This team is as good as anybody in the league if they play on
- 11:36all cylinders. But the problem with the Knicks
- 11:43is they're inconsistent. Inconsistency does not work in
- 11:48the playoffs. It doesn't.
- 11:51That's why they lost against Halliburton in Indiana in the
- 11:54Eastern Conference Finals last year.
- 11:57The Spurs are young. They're up and coming.
- 12:00Harper's. Dylan Harper's going to be a
- 12:02special player. Give him a couple of years.
- 12:04This guy's going to be one of the best point guards in the
- 12:05league. Castle was Rookie of the Year.
- 12:10We know what he is. This guy is a great player.
- 12:13He was a great find, a great find by the Spurs.
- 12:17Devin Vessel, good offensive player.
- 12:19It's going to give you 20 and 8:20 and 7:00.
- 12:23The guy is a great player offensively if he can stay
- 12:25healthy. Fox.
- 12:28Fox is going to be a big part of it.
- 12:30If they make the playoffs, which they will, he's going to be a
- 12:32big part of their run webbing. Yama needs the help and what the
- 12:40Knicks did was very unique is they had OG and Anobi defend
- 12:45Webiyama in the paint, Force Webiyama to do things that he
- 12:50was uncomfortable doing. What a lot of teams do against
- 12:53Giannis in the play offs, what they do and what we've seen that
- 12:58has worked against Giannis in the play offs against Milwaukee
- 13:01is they keep Giannis on the outside, keep him out of the
- 13:03paint, make him shoot the ball, which he's uncomfortable doing.
- 13:07Now, Webiyama is a much better shooter than Giannis.
- 13:11Much better. Not athletically, but I think
- 13:14webbing. I think webbing Yama is a little
- 13:16bit less athletic than Giannis is.
- 13:20But webbing Yama could do. He can post off, He can shoot
- 13:23that 1819 foot jumper. But the Knicks was swarming him.
- 13:27They were getting under him. They were pestering him.
- 13:29They were pissing him off, made him feel uncomfortable and made
- 13:32him four shots that he wasn't comfortable doing.
- 13:36That is Mike Brown, the fast-paced offense up and down
- 13:39the court. Play defense, stick defense,
- 13:41make sure you play good perimeter defense, force them to
- 13:44try to beat you in the paint and make sure you that you beat them
- 13:47on the boards. Mitchell Robinson was a big part
- 13:51of why they won the Cup. Mitchell Robinson is going to be
- 13:56a big reason why the Knicks if they plan to win a championship.
- 14:01He is going to be a big part of the rebounding and the defensive
- 14:04side of the rim. We understand why the Knicks
- 14:11made a move for Jose Alvarado. We got it.
- 14:16And if, if I can argue this, I will argue this to all the
- 14:20Knicks fans. I'll, I will argue this to every
- 14:22single fan in the NBA right now. Leon Rose is the best trade
- 14:28deadline GM or executive in the NBA right now.
- 14:33Do you want me to tell you why? Let's, let's go back.
- 14:38Let's go back in time first. At the trade deadline, he made
- 14:43that move for Josh Hart. Do we remember who they traded?
- 14:47Speedy, Do we remember? I don't off hand.
- 14:54How about you fish? Do you remember who we traded?
- 14:57Believe it was Cam reddish and a late 1st.
- 15:02And where is Cam Reddish now? Selling sneakers at Foot Locker.
- 15:06And what happened to that first round pick?
- 15:10Nobody knows exactly. Nobody.
- 15:13Yeah. Then he made that trade for OG
- 15:16and Anobi. He traded RJ Barrett and
- 15:18Emmanuel Quigley. And I'm not saying RJ Barrett
- 15:22hasn't been successful with Toronto.
- 15:23He's been good, Quigley's been good.
- 15:26But OG and Anobi, when he is on the court and he is healthy,
- 15:30he's as good or maybe the best shutdown defender, perimeter
- 15:34defender in all of the NBA who could defend multiple positions.
- 15:38I'm talking about all 5 positions.
- 15:40You know, OG reminds me of, and I told Fish, Magic Johnson, he's
- 15:46the same size as Magic Johnson. Magic Johnson with 68-O GS,
- 15:49about 6-7, same size, plays the same way, plays and defends
- 15:55multiple positions and can do it at a high level.
- 16:00He's strong, he gets under you and he forces you to do things
- 16:04that you're uncomfortable doing. That was RJ Barrett where he
- 16:09wasn't successful. RJ Barrett was 1/3 option and he
- 16:13wanted to be a second or maybe even a first option and that's
- 16:15why they nick straighted him. OG knew he wasn't the second or
- 16:18he wasn't going to be the third option on this team when they
- 16:21made that move from a guy like Carl Anthony Towns.
- 16:25And then this season when they added Jose Alvarado, they traded
- 16:32a piece that wasn't working when they signed 76ers.
- 16:36I'm, I'm sorry, what was that? Yabasheli?
- 16:39Yabasheli. They traded him for a no name
- 16:42guard and then they moved that guard and I think a pick, a
- 16:48second round pick of some kind and they added Jose Alvarado.
- 16:53They gave up nothing for Jose Alvarado to the Pelicans that
- 16:58were just wanted to get rid of them and everybody.
- 17:01Jose Alvarado wanted to come home.
- 17:03He's from Brooklyn. He was ecstatic when they Nick's
- 17:06made this move. And I remember, I remember in
- 17:10his first game, he was talking to Jalen Brunson.
- 17:14He says what do you want me to do?
- 17:16Where do you want me at? And he was like, just be
- 17:18yourself, play your own game. We all we want you to do is be
- 17:21yourself. And then he sat down with Jalen
- 17:23Brunson's father, Rick Brunson. And throughout the first
- 17:26quarter, if you watch that first game, he was talking to Rick
- 17:29Brunson. And I'm sure Rick Brunson was
- 17:32telling him the same thing. Be yourself, play your game.
- 17:36And slowly but surely, you're getting a chance to see why the
- 17:39Knicks made that move for Jose Alvarado.
- 17:42Jose Alvarado has been a big part of that perimeter defense.
- 17:46You can bring them on. You can bring them on in late
- 17:48games, especially against their best guard and stick them and
- 17:52tell him to stick him. He could shoot the three.
- 17:53He's a very good 3 point shooter.
- 17:56This team overall from top to bottom, even bring in Sochen
- 18:02and, and Sochen has really barely played.
- 18:04We haven't seen enough of Sochen, but we're going to see
- 18:07him. I, I think the Knicks are going
- 18:09to move them into that rotation, that secondary rotation as the
- 18:13playoffs come along because they're going to need him.
- 18:15He's a big body, he's a defender, he's a rebounder, he's
- 18:19a tough player to play against. And when you play against teams
- 18:21like the Detroit Pistons, you need those tough players.
- 18:24Mike Brown. Say whatever you want about Mike
- 18:26Brown, love him, hate him, dislike him.
- 18:30Mike Brown is one of these coaches that is an XS and OS
- 18:35type of guy. It was Jalen Brunson calling
- 18:39that team meeting that changed everything for this team.
- 18:43Ever since that team meeting when the Knicks were like 2 and
- 18:479 or three and nine in 12 games, that team meeting changed
- 18:51everything for this team. Yeah, they lost against the
- 18:54Cavaliers and they haven't showed in some of these games,
- 18:57but we've seen them beat elite teams.
- 18:59Look what they did against Houston coming back from Houston
- 19:02after 18 points. They were down by 18 points
- 19:04going into the practically the fourth quarter.
- 19:06They came back and won that game by two.
- 19:08Why? Because Karl Anthony Towns and
- 19:12there are games that there are other heroes.
- 19:14This game was Mikhail Bridges problem with Mikhail Bridges.
- 19:17What scares me about Mikhail Bridges is he disappears in
- 19:20games so does OG. They need to be more consistent.
- 19:25If both players are as consistent in games, one could
- 19:31play defense, two could play defense, one could play offense,
- 19:34both could play offense in defense.
- 19:35If they both are consistent players, the New York Knicks are
- 19:40easily going to come out of the Eastern Conference.
- 19:42Because as good as the Celtics are right now, if Tatum comes
- 19:46back, he is not playing more than 2728 minutes in a game.
- 19:49He's not. He's not playing 40 minutes
- 19:52coming back from an Achilles hair.
- 19:53Not a chance in hell coming back as quick as he did.
- 19:55No, it's going to be all Jaylen Brown.
- 19:59They don't have a lot. As far as I'm concerned, as
- 20:02concerned as size, the Celtics are not a big team.
- 20:07So the Knicks are a big team. They have size.
- 20:11They have ability to match against some of the bigger teams
- 20:14in the NBA because of it. The Knicks used to be very
- 20:16small. Over the years.
- 20:18They brought in Sochen. Sochen is A-69 guy.
- 20:21He's a guy that you can bring off the bench.
- 20:23He's pretty big. You can move him at the three,
- 20:24you can move him at the four. He could defend any one of those
- 20:28positions. Mitchell Robinson could defend
- 20:31the three. I mean he could play.
- 20:32He could defend the five, the four or the three.
- 20:37Jose Alvarado could defend the one or the two.
- 20:39Josh Hark can defend the one, the two or the three.
- 20:42All these guys OG and nobody could defend all 5 positions.
- 20:46When you have those abilities and you have that kind of bench
- 20:51and you have these type of players, these style of players
- 20:53that can give you that kind of pressure defensively, you're
- 20:58going to be able to compete against anybody in the NBA.
- 21:00We were talking earlier about this, I heard Zach Lowe talk
- 21:03about like just what he Josh Hart was doing and how teams are
- 21:07playing him offensively because Hart's this semi liability on
- 21:12offense, right? He's really good in transition,
- 21:14but he's not a great 3 point shooter.
- 21:16Shots a little herky jerky with the motion at times.
- 21:19He gets streaky with the three, but you don't have to shoot the
- 21:23three if you can facilitate the offense and you could do ball
- 21:26screens. And the simplest thing to do is
- 21:28what they keep doing with Bridges in him.
- 21:31It's just OK, give the ball to heart, have him dribble inside
- 21:34the top of the key and then just hand the ball off one way or the
- 21:38other as you as Bridges runs around him and use his heart's
- 21:41body as a screen to initiate the offense.
- 21:43And then everyone cycles off of that.
- 21:45I mean, if you can do that, you're basically Draymond Green
- 21:49offensively. And what he did was facilitate
- 21:52great shooting around him. And if you get great shooting
- 21:55around him, you can run that offense.
- 21:56Even if you have a guy who's not great at shooting like Hart, he
- 22:00can do enough that it's not a liability.
- 22:02In fact, it enhances the team and they killed him yesterday by
- 22:05letting Hart do that. Well, we got a caller.
- 22:08Who do we have on? We have one of Nathan's friends.
- 22:12Nathan's friend. Can you hear us?
- 22:14Yes we can. How you doing?
- 22:16What's going on, my friend? Who we speaking?
- 22:18To Hey, it's Joe from NY Yankee mania.
- 22:22Hey, Joe, how are you? Good.
- 22:24How you doing, my friends? That's good, man.
- 22:27Glad that I got a chance to give you guys a call.
- 22:31As always. You're knocking it out of the
- 22:33park, of course. Thank you.
- 22:36So how you guys doing? Well, I'm not dancing.
- 22:39I mean, if I was, I would be tap dancing right now.
- 22:43But we're talking Knicks basketball.
- 22:45I know you're a Knick fan. You're a Yankees guy.
- 22:48We're we're good, man. What did you think about the
- 22:51Knicks knocking off the San Antonio Spurs?
- 22:54I was very, very surprised. Really.
- 22:57Yeah, I was, you know, listen, being in New York for so long,
- 23:05you get it. You get a feel of what the teams
- 23:07are going to do. I don't know.
- 23:09I guess it's just a premonition that I have.
- 23:12Even then, I just know when a team's going to win or lose
- 23:15here. Call me crazy, but it's the
- 23:17truth. I've seen so many games in my
- 23:19life. I've worked with them and and I
- 23:22know more or less. So that threw me before a loop.
- 23:26I mean, to be, to be, you know, honest with you again, I, I just
- 23:31never, I, I just thought it's always one disappointment on top
- 23:35of another. So maybe this year's different.
- 23:38Just like I think it's gonna happen with the New York
- 23:40Yankees, I think a lot of people are going to be very surprised
- 23:44with this team. I I would agree with you and we
- 23:47will get into some Yankee conversation because the WBC is
- 23:50right around the corner Wednesday.
- 23:51We have Aaron Judge, a leading the United States team.
- 23:55You have Japan and Otani, the deferred Dodgers might be
- 23:59lurking in many different areas over there on Japan.
- 24:02I mean, there's a couple of for, well, couple, couple of Dodgers
- 24:06right now on that roster pitching, pitching players.
- 24:08But I, I, I would agree, I think the Yankees going to be a lot
- 24:11better than people think they're going to be this year.
- 24:13I, I think a lot of people don't understand what pitching Staffs
- 24:17could be if everybody is healthy.
- 24:19So, and I think the Yankees are going to have one of the best
- 24:21pitching Staffs, if not the best pitching staff in baseball.
- 24:23But I think that when you look at the Knicks and, and by the
- 24:26way, we're talking to Joe and he has a great podcast.
- 24:29What is your podcast, by the way?
- 24:31It's it's called New York Yankee Mania and we do play by plays
- 24:38and we also have a morning show at 9:30 E and that's that's on
- 24:44in New York City and all over. Well.
- 24:46And I appreciate you asking. Absolutely.
- 24:49And I just want everybody to hear it and and they're gonna
- 24:51get to hear it on all the different platforms after the
- 24:53show cutting and chopping it up. But you know what's interesting
- 24:58when, when you think about what the New York Knicks are doing,
- 25:00it's it's kind of, it's kind of something that you you don't
- 25:05expect with the New York Knicks, especially against great teams
- 25:08in the NBA. The Knicks have had problems
- 25:10against top talented teams. Last year, they weren't as good
- 25:13of a home team in the NBA. They were, I don't even think
- 25:16they were one of the better teams in the NBA.
- 25:18I think they were one of the worst home teams in the NBA.
- 25:20They were a better away team. Now this year, there are better
- 25:24home team now. Yeah, the Knicks need to be a
- 25:26better home team, especially if they expect to win.
- 25:29You need homecourt advantage. You need to win those homecourt
- 25:33games in the playoffs and at Madison Square Garden when it's
- 25:36loud, where all the fans are going to be rooting and cheering
- 25:38for you. You need to succeed and go out
- 25:41there and play your game. And I think that I think the New
- 25:44York Knicks have done very, very well this year has a lot to do
- 25:46with Mike Brown, the offensive style of game he likes to run.
- 25:49And this offense that he is running right now is going to
- 25:52work work in the playoffs. They had a problem scoring the
- 25:55ball in certain series, especially against the Indiana
- 25:58Pacers. I don't think the Knicks are
- 25:59going to have a problem against teams like the Celtics or teams
- 26:03like Detroit. Even though the Knicks played
- 26:04very well against Detroit and I think it was the first round
- 26:07last year. This is a different Detroit
- 26:09team. Cunningham has played at MVP
- 26:11level this year. Duran has been as good of a
- 26:14center in the NBA. And by the way, Duran was and I,
- 26:17it's funny to say this, he was a Knicks draft pick, so.
- 26:20And it was like traded until after the fact.
- 26:22The Knicks drafted him and then traded him to Detroit and got a
- 26:26future first round draft pick, which turned into nothing
- 26:28because it was a protected first round draft pick.
- 26:30So it's typical. I don't understand this
- 26:32unprotected, protected crap that the NBA has.
- 26:34But what I love about that, what the New York Knicks are doing
- 26:37right now is they're giving now players an opportunity to be the
- 26:42forefront offensive player on that roster.
- 26:45Now, Mikhail Bridges, he was the best offensive option in this
- 26:48particular game. I want to see more of this.
- 26:50I want to see, I'm not saying I don't want to, I want to see
- 26:53less than Jalen. I don't I, I want to see Jalen
- 26:54Brunson play his game. But if Jalen Brunson is not on
- 26:58that night, give the ball to Karl Anthony Towns.
- 27:00Let Karl Anthony Towns take over the games.
- 27:03Because if you look, if Karl Anthony Towns is is the leading
- 27:06scorer of the New York Knicks, if I'm not mistaken, the Knicks
- 27:08this year 11 and one or something or 11:00 and 2:00.
- 27:11Their their record is ridiculous.
- 27:12When Karl Anthony Towns is leaning leading the scoring when
- 27:16it when it comes to the team, he's the number one option.
- 27:19Now, when you look at statistics, statistics will tell
- 27:21you that it would work. Now the isolation basketball
- 27:24never works in the playoffs. It never does.
- 27:26It never does. You need to move the ball and
- 27:28that's Mike Brown and I think that's what Mike Brown is trying
- 27:30to get this team to do. And when you see it against the
- 27:32Spurs and you saw it in this game, this was not isolation
- 27:35basketball. They were moving the ball.
- 27:37They they they definitely put these players in the right
- 27:39position. And Mikhail Bridges, he wasn't
- 27:42forcing the ball into places that he wasn't wasn't
- 27:45uncomfortable or he was uncomfortable doing over the
- 27:47last couple of weeks. I think he was more comfortable
- 27:50at, at the way he was positioning himself.
- 27:52And I, I think that's why when you have Mikkel Bridges doing
- 27:55what he did last night and you have OJ Anobi defending the way
- 28:00he can do and the way he can play.
- 28:02And all these guys are playing on all cylinders and you're
- 28:04getting the bench help that you're getting, giving you
- 28:07double digits. You're going to win every single
- 28:09game. I, I, I'm telling you right now,
- 28:11they're going to be able to compete against anybody in the
- 28:13NBA if they play this way. Question is, will they be able
- 28:16to? Consistency from the supporting
- 28:18cast is what you're going to need.
- 28:19And Joe, Joe, you're kind of mentioning too.
- 28:20Like you were said, you weren't surprised that the Knicks beat
- 28:22up a team like the Spurs. This is a Spurs team that is
- 28:24hyper efficient offensively to believe they're 8th and they
- 28:27have a lot of guards. A lot of guards even want to be
- 28:30being a big man. But even with guys like the Cell
- 28:32and Castle that could really do well and the Knicks took
- 28:34advantage of that like one-on-one matchups wise too.
- 28:37And that's a good sign of confidence when you look at even
- 28:39if they do like going into the playoffs, even besides those
- 28:42teams, like they have more talent and depth than Detroit
- 28:45does on paper. And look at the Celtics,
- 28:49obviously, like you said, are without Tatum not being as as
- 28:51prevalent minutes wise. They have good depth with with
- 28:54Pritchard and some of the young kids that they have all off the
- 28:56bench. But it's not better than the
- 28:57Knicks on paper. And the Cavs now trading Garland
- 28:59too for hard and James Harden. We know chokes in the playoffs
- 29:01all the time. Like the Knicks should have the
- 29:02advantage there. But now you're going with the
- 29:04gauntlet in the West too. This is going to be one of those
- 29:06teams. But this?
- 29:07Is this is going to be a different James Harden because
- 29:09James Harden now knows that he is not the number one guy over
- 29:13there. Even with the Clippers, Kawhi
- 29:15Leonard couldn't stay healthy, Paul George couldn't stay
- 29:18healthy. It was James Harden's team.
- 29:20It was James Harden's roster. Now James Harden.
- 29:23He knows Donovan Mitchell is the guy.
- 29:25He knows it. He has to accept.
- 29:26It he has to accept that. But now you can play off each
- 29:30other. So I don't know if the Cavaliers
- 29:31are going to be or this is going to be the same James Harden.
- 29:34Donovan Mitchell hasn't been good in the playoffs.
- 29:36Not with Utah, not with the Cavaliers.
- 29:39Mitchell's weird because Mitchell does really well like
- 29:41the first round of the playoffs all the time, and then he either
- 29:44wears himself out or the just doesn't have to lose, even if he
- 29:47still plays well in the second round.
- 29:49And that's why he's never reached the conference finals.
- 29:51He he tries to do too much. That guy always puts it on his
- 29:54back, especially when he's on Utah.
- 29:56But his playoffs numbers overall are like they look good on paper
- 29:59just because he does really well in the first round, the first
- 30:00half of the second round, apparently.
- 30:03We'll see, Maybe you'll get over the hump one day.
- 30:05I just don't think a team that trades for like their second
- 30:08best player at the deadline, usually they don't gel fast
- 30:13enough. I just don't see that really
- 30:14kind of come together. I think it's a it's a Hail Mary.
- 30:17I mean, Harden's a Hall of Famer, so you would imagine if
- 30:20anyone can do it, maybe he has enough powers left.
- 30:22But I want to talk a little bit about Bridges before we finish
- 30:25this up because Bridges was awesome in this game. 5 steals.
- 30:30He was in the passing lanes all day.
- 30:33He's playing real great perimeter defense offensively.
- 30:37I mean, he's not shooting like Reggie Miller, but he was
- 30:39running off screens like Reggie Miller.
- 30:41He was, you know, going inside the three-point line, going back
- 30:44to the three-point line. Just a pain in the ass he has to
- 30:47deal with. Fish, he's just inconsistent.
- 30:49That's why everybody keeps complaining.
- 30:51I've I've, I've been on Quran's show, I've been on many
- 30:54different Nick's shows. I've come on different podcasts
- 30:57and gone on different podcasts and, and I've been in that
- 31:00conversation about the real problem right now with the New
- 31:03York Knicks is Mikkel Bridges. If Mikkel Bridges isn't another,
- 31:06if he's not the third option on this roster, they're not winning
- 31:09anything. He needs to be the third
- 31:10offensive option. OG and Anobi Ready has taken the
- 31:13back seat. He knows he's the best defensive
- 31:16player on this roster. I don't think it's an argument.
- 31:18He might even be the best defensive player in the league
- 31:20at the way he plays at a high level.
- 31:22But OG already knows if he scores 1516 points, he earned
- 31:26his $40 million. He is, besides Carl Anthony
- 31:30Towns, he's the highest paid player on this roster and and
- 31:33the Knicks wanted him and the Knicks were going after him for
- 31:35the last three or four years before they got him it because
- 31:39of his defensive skills, the defensive prowess that he gives
- 31:42to this team and his roster. Mikhail Bridges, he does both.
- 31:45He can give you the defense and he can give you the offense.
- 31:48And Mikhail Bridges was the number one option on that Nets
- 31:50team. Look at Michael Porter now,
- 31:51that's the problem. Everybody looks at what Michael
- 31:54Porter's doing. He was 1/3 option on the Nuggets
- 31:55and now he's the number one option over there.
- 31:57He's putting up #1 numbers right now, averaging 24 points a game.
- 32:02Why? Because he's the only guy that
- 32:03can shoot the ball. That's the same thing with
- 32:05Mikkel Bridges. But Mikkel Bridges did it at a
- 32:07higher level than Michael Porter and he's a younger player than
- 32:10Michael Porter. So you would expect that Mikkel
- 32:13Bridges is going to be that guy who the Knicks paid in the
- 32:16offseason and believe that he was the guy that they traded 5
- 32:19picks for. I want to see more consistency
- 32:22with this guy, especially in the big game.
- 32:24He didn't show up in the Detroit series, but he showed up in the
- 32:26the Celtic series series and then he didn't show up in the
- 32:30Indiana series. I want to see consistency, see
- 32:32from a guy like Mikhail Bridges, especially what you're paying
- 32:35him and what you gave up for. Before we wrap up this segment,
- 32:38I just want to mention for those of the fans that were looking
- 32:41for Chris Childs, he will not be able to make it tonight.
- 32:43Had to deal with the family emergency.
- 32:45His mother-in-law had to be rushed to the hospital.
- 32:46So we will not have Chris tonight.
- 32:48Joe, you have anything else before we let you go?
- 32:51No, you just just one, one quick thing.
- 32:54If the, the Knicks, like you said, they have to, they have to
- 32:57play well at the Garden and, and, and they have to come out
- 33:01fighting because the Garden we, you know, that they could have a
- 33:05secret weapon there, but for some reason something is just
- 33:09goes on. You know what?
- 33:11And working in the Garden and seeing the people, it's like, I
- 33:14don't know, there's just something about that place with
- 33:17the Knicks and sometimes now with the ranges that just
- 33:21doesn't click, and that's got to change.
- 33:23Well, I will say this, they sell out games and you know, and
- 33:26Knick games in the playoffs after the games the are going
- 33:30crazy outside. They crummet.
- 33:32They're they're absolutely controlling the streets of New
- 33:36York City. It's, it's incredible.
- 33:38I mean, people, people set up trucks with basketball courts
- 33:43outside, like about a block away by, by Macy's.
- 33:47I mean, it's incredible. The fans are just.
- 33:50Not absolutely insane. Do you know?
- 33:52Do you know if the Knicks win a championship at any point, the
- 33:56fans will go absolutely nuts. I think they'll push down a
- 33:59building. That's the kind of fans that
- 34:01they are. I mean, they were climbing
- 34:03poles, winning a first round. Or how about when they knocked
- 34:06off the Celtics? What they were doing, they were
- 34:08dancing around and prancing around like they won an NBA
- 34:11title or they were going to the Finals.
- 34:13That's the way Nick fans are. They they really, I would say
- 34:16out of the old. Hungry though, I mean come on,
- 34:18what, 5050 or 60 years they are hungry?
- 34:21So a lot of these other teams, especially the Yankees, haven't
- 34:25gone, haven't won a championship in 1516 years.
- 34:28They're hungry. Too they are and I'm not saying
- 34:31not to and I want one and though I want that 28 in the worst way
- 34:34but. So did Joe Girardi, so does
- 34:37Aaron Boone. I mean, they JoJo already
- 34:39changed his number 28. It never got, never lasted that
- 34:42long. So.
- 34:43There's a there's just one thing before before I go, I just I
- 34:48just hope and pray that these rumors that I'm hearing today
- 34:52are not true with Gary Sanchez possibly coming back as a non
- 34:56invitee, I think I don't want him him anywhere near Yankee
- 35:01land. Please stay away.
- 35:03I don't think that's happening. I don't think that's happening.
- 35:06I I know that's a story and that's a rumor.
- 35:08You know what's crazy about Yankee rumors?
- 35:10As soon as somebody brings it up, it becomes the biggest rumor
- 35:13in sports. It really Gary Sanchez.
- 35:16I mean, Gary Sanchez the the guy that had really a half a season
- 35:20that was just an outbreak. Everybody was like, oh, the next
- 35:23Babe Ruth, give me a break. I mean.
- 35:25Please. And the other thing I can't
- 35:27stand guys and I, I know you could.
- 35:29You'll agree with me on this. These people out there, I know
- 35:34everybody wants to get attention, but they got to stop
- 35:38putting out these things of Paul O'Neill has cancer.
- 35:42This one is this 1 is going to die.
- 35:45This see this act is going to die.
- 35:48I mean, but people and people are eating this stuff up and
- 35:52they're getting millions of views and something's got to be
- 35:56done. I don't understand the platforms
- 35:59of YouTube, Facebook and all. Why did they let this happen?
- 36:04It's got to stop. It's not going to.
- 36:06It's not going to, unfortunately, Joe, it's never
- 36:09going to stop because social media is king.
- 36:12That's what it is. How?
- 36:13Do you how do you how do you say poor the you know the guy's dead
- 36:17when he's when he's alive and well, thank God doing his TV or
- 36:21whatever. I'm to me that's disgusting.
- 36:25They should get the the the I number and get him or get them
- 36:30or I don't care. Boy girl, I don't care who it is
- 36:33out the door. Get lost.
- 36:35It's not fair for people like you that are out there giving
- 36:40the fair and the correct information.
- 36:44Thank you. That's not fair and I will go to
- 36:46bed for that. If there's anything that we can
- 36:48do, as with all of us as a team, my God, I'm ready to do it
- 36:55because I think that's disgusting.
- 36:58I, I would agree with you, but I, I will say this, Joe, you're
- 37:01great. Congratulations on all your
- 37:04success on YouTube and we will be talking very, very soon.
- 37:08I'm I'm looking forward to joining your show in the very
- 37:10near future and. Well, thank.
- 37:12You you guys do such a great job so thank you for calling my
- 37:15friend. Oh, you're welcome.
- 37:17Listen guys, stay healthy. God, God be with all of you.
- 37:21You guys are great. Thank you, Joe.
- 37:23Joe, ladies and gentlemen, fantastic call.
- 37:26I will say this. I don't go on social media.
- 37:29I don't go on Facebook unless I'm posting something about our
- 37:31show. I'm not putting anything out.
- 37:33It's my father's birthday. I'll post up something about my
- 37:36dad. I, I don't really go out of my
- 37:39way to spread out my, you know, my private life.
- 37:42It's none of anybody's business. The problem right now with
- 37:45social media is really when you have TikTok and Instagram and
- 37:49Facebook and YouTube, everybody as long as you have a mic and
- 37:53it's crazy if, if you have a niche, if you're talking about
- 37:56asses or boobs or anything you put it up on on YouTube, people
- 38:02are going to tune in. Why?
- 38:03Because there's nothing out there.
- 38:05It's my niche. Boobs are my niche or asses are
- 38:08my niche. If it becomes a niche, it's it's
- 38:11a draw and it doesn't make any sense.
- 38:13And then we're because we're talking all sports.
- 38:16We speak about all sports, and we're not sticking to just the
- 38:19Knicks or the Yankees or the Mets or the Islanders or
- 38:23Rangers. Oh, we're not a draw on YouTube.
- 38:26It doesn't make any sense. I don't get it.
- 38:27But I guess that's the algorithm.
- 38:29It never makes sense and it never should make sense.
- 38:32But hey, you know, that's social media.
- 38:34Ladies and gentlemen, I don't get it.
- 38:37Anyways, yeah, with the Knicks, you want to think that this team
- 38:42is going to figure things out and they're going to play more
- 38:45organically as a team. You don't want to you don't want
- 38:48to see them play well against the Spurs and then play horrible
- 38:51against these bad teams like the Hawks and, and, and they lose
- 38:55against teams that are not good, like Indiana.
- 38:58Indiana's trying to lose. And then you, you lose a game
- 39:00against Indiana, they lost like 10 games or 9 games in a row and
- 39:03then they play the Knicks and they beat them in Madison Square
- 39:05Garden. Does that make any sense to you?
- 39:07It doesn't. You cannot let the Indiana
- 39:11Pacers beat you when they're trying to lose it's.
- 39:15Embarrassing. Maybe the Knicks are being
- 39:16strategic to make sure they can't get a lottery pick.
- 39:19I have no idea, but hey, they could get the wizard's pick as
- 39:23long as they fall out of out of the 8th pick out of the 8th the
- 39:26top 8. Keep the Pacers out of the top
- 39:28five. That's not going to happen
- 39:30because the Knicks have always been screwed.
- 39:32They got screwed, but with Porzingis, they've gotten
- 39:35screwed by all these. Look, look at Duran.
- 39:37They, they had Duran, they drafted him and then they
- 39:41decided to trade him for a, a future first round draft pick.
- 39:43And what did that? It was a, a protected first
- 39:46round pick. And because they were so bad the
- 39:48next, the last two years, the Knicks never got it.
- 39:51They got a second round pick, which turned into, I don't know,
- 39:53maybe Kollick, maybe maybe it was a Kollick kid or the French
- 39:57kid. It, it just, it doesn't work.
- 40:00And, and I, I don't know, that's why the NBA, if there's
- 40:02something that the NBA needs to change with the CBA rules and
- 40:05when, when, when they go to strike or whatever the hell they
- 40:08are going to do in the future when it comes to their new
- 40:10concept. Tracks the the one thing I would
- 40:13try to get rid of and banish is the unprotected and protected
- 40:16draft. Picks.
- 40:16Hopefully, hopefully the NBA goes on strike so they can find
- 40:18a a new commissioner post LeBron James, Yeah.
- 40:21Figure that one out. LeBron James is hopefully going
- 40:24to be gone soon. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 40:27my golf clap of the week. This deserves a golf clap, no
- 40:32doubt. Golf clap.
- 40:33Golf clap and ladies and gentlemen, my golf clap of the
- 40:39week goes to the UConn women's undefeated Huskies.
- 40:44Ariema is is one of the greatest coaches in college basketball
- 40:48history. I'm talking about men's and
- 40:51women. This guy is a champion.
- 40:53If you look at the level that he has brought this team to year in
- 40:57and year out, it's it's unbelievably extraordinary.
- 41:01Listen to this if you want to know what this guy and his
- 41:04success story is. 12 NCAA Division One tournaments from 95
- 41:122002, 1002, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2 thousand 2524 NCAA
- 41:21Division One Regional Final Fours from 91 all the way to 2
- 41:25thousand. 2523 Big East tournaments from 1989 all the
- 41:31way to 2026. Seven ACC tournaments from 2014
- 41:37to 2002. Thousand 27 ACC regular seasons
- 41:42from 2014 to 2020 and awards. Eight time Naismith coach of the
- 41:47year. I mean ridiculous.
- 41:49Seven time WBCA national coach of the year, nine time AP coach
- 41:55of the year. I mean, I could go on and on and
- 41:58on and on and on. And why are the UConn women so
- 42:04special? You know, it, this guy, the one
- 42:08we call Gino Gino Auriemma, Yeah.
- 42:11I mean, it's an unbelievable feat.
- 42:13Congratulations to God. They have been unbelievable.
- 42:16When you talk about the man, you talk about what Danny Hurley has
- 42:18done. I think people forget what the
- 42:20women are doing and how dominant the women have been for such a
- 42:24long time. And look at how many WNBA
- 42:27players top and WNBA players came from that that that
- 42:31program. It's been unbelievable.
- 42:33So my my golf clap goes to dominant Yukon that have been so
- 42:38dominant and now going into a tournament that are favorites to
- 42:42winning the whole thing and not surprised as this guy has been
- 42:46as dominant as everybody. Thank you to all the fans, all
- 42:52the people tuning in and following us on Spotify and
- 42:55Apple. We had a very big weekend when
- 42:57it came to views and unique listeners.
- 43:02I, I don't get what's going on as far as the Apple and Spotify
- 43:05grid. It doesn't make any sense to me.
- 43:08There were people jumping 100 spots.
- 43:10It makes no sense. There's somebody tampering over
- 43:13there at Apple, so it doesn't make any sense.
- 43:16But whatever, I'm not going to say anything.
- 43:19All I know is we really appreciate everybody on Apple
- 43:22and Spotify and audio and video for tuning in and checking us
- 43:26out on the YouTube channel. Job in the mouth, Job in the
- 43:29mouth, New York sports. Thank you.
- 43:33Our interns are working on the new YouTube channel.
- 43:35So go check that out and our drop in the mouth regular
- 43:40channel. We thank all the guys and girls
- 43:42and gals checking it out and tuning in.
- 43:45We really guys, we know we're not, we don't have a niche and
- 43:48that that could be the reason why people aren't driving to the
- 43:52YouTube channel all the time, because we're not a Knicks show.
- 43:55We're not a net show or a Yankee show or a Met show or an
- 43:59Islanders or Rangers show or whatever.
- 44:01All right, We're we're an all show.
- 44:03We like to talk all sports and I I I know that's something that
- 44:08affects the algorithm. So we were getting we understand
- 44:10what's going on, but we put it out there.
- 44:12We put our YouTube channel up for all the the people that want
- 44:17to watch the show live and check us out and and TuneIn and
- 44:20interact with us. So that's why we do it.
- 44:22If it was up to me, we wouldn't even have a live YouTube
- 44:24channel. I really don't care, you know,
- 44:27So but we appreciate all the fans that TuneIn on TikTok,
- 44:31Instagram X job in the mouth like all the guys, girls that
- 44:37are tuning in on Facebook, worldwide sports radio network.
- 44:40It's great. We we, we, we believe and I I'm
- 44:43stuttering because I'm trying to get out the the magic words.
- 44:47It's not even we believe. The fact here is there is nobody
- 44:52in this industry putting up the numbers that we're putting up on
- 44:56every single platform that is not signed by a network.
- 45:00Now we are under blue wire and that is a network, but I'm
- 45:04talking about one of the major big networks.
- 45:06So what we're doing is unique and different.
- 45:10We work our asses off to entertain you guys and perform
- 45:14the best possible product that we have.
- 45:17We put it out there 110% and even the interns on the back
- 45:21end, they work on the videos, they cut, they chop, they put it
- 45:24out there. So for all the fans out there on
- 45:26Spotify and Apple listening to the steak right now, when when
- 45:29you get a chance to listen to it, listen to me and hear me
- 45:32out. You guys are the reason why we
- 45:34do this. You guys are the reason why we
- 45:37do this, so we appreciate all you guys that TuneIn and love
- 45:41what we do. It means the world to me.

- 45:52on Jabba in the mouth. I want to give a shout out to
- 45:54Jabba Chamberlain. Today is the year anniversary of
- 45:58his father's passing. We we love you Jabba.
- 46:00I hope everything's going well with you and your family.
- 46:03Take care, take care of yourself and shout out to Quinton couples
- 46:08and and all the guys. We we love you and we'll talk to
- 46:10you Thursday. Goodnight it.
