- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Welcome in everybody to the Talking Tech Podcast Powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:47SPEAKER_04: Tristan, it is butt week, my man.
- 0:50SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 0:51SPEAKER_06: And my butt seems to have remained in the studio due to uh the all the tech podcasting we've been doing.
- 0:58SPEAKER_06: So I I'm I am locked in, dude.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: Yes, we recorded a uh basketball preview that is going to come out sometime later, potentially early next week, potentially weekend TVD.
- 1:08SPEAKER_04: Who knows?
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, we're not we don't put timestamps on our on ourselves in our lives.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: No, we don't plan shit.
- 1:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we don't we don't do anything like what you're supposed to.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: Uh but no, this is uh this is butt week.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: Uh we're talking to our good buddy Joe Goodman, uh, because of course he is a Baylor fan, a Baylor alum.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: Uh so we're gonna talk about one flaw.
- 1:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, he's a great and an otherwise perfect man.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: I know perfect dude, except that he roots for the green and and apparently gold.
- 1:37SPEAKER_04: It's not gold, it's yellow.
- 1:39SPEAKER_06: It's yellow.
- 1:39SPEAKER_06: Let's just say it's yellow so he's upset when he's listening to this recap.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: But we had a great interview with Joe uh to talk about the game.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: Let's uh go ahead.
- 1:48SPEAKER_04: Oh, and we also uh towards the end hit on some spicy overrated food takes.
- 1:53SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, a much many of you loved the overrated music takes uh that we had last week.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: So now we're bringing in uh a different style.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: And Joe joined us for it.
- 2:03SPEAKER_04: So uh um it's a good episode.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: Uh it was it was really fun to record, and uh here we go, Joe Goodman.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: All right, we are here with our good buddy Joe Goodman, Baylor Extraordinaire.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: Uh Joe, I have one question to start off this podcast.
- 2:21SPEAKER_04: How dare you?
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: Uh, with everything that you have put on Twitter uh this past week.
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: Uh it's very upsetting.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: You've gone much harder than I thought you would uh during this Bug Bowl week.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: Uh but Joe, how are you doing, man?
- 2:34SPEAKER_05: I I'm gonna channel my my inner Sam Ellinger real quick with just a I'm back.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, dude, we are always happy to have you on.
- 2:46SPEAKER_06: Is this like the third or fourth time you've been on?
- 2:49SPEAKER_06: I think it's fourth.
- 2:50SPEAKER_06: I want to say fourth.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you've been well, you were on a couple episodes ago.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: Your song of the week, at least, was on uh when you when you privately DM'd me and uh and we got you on there uh during Tristan's rant about Blink 182.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: Uh, but no, we're here to talk butt ball, uh, because this is probably the most even butt bowl we've had in probably since well, 2020, because we were both let's say let's say 2020, right?
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: We're we're both pretty bad in 2020, but both these teams coming in four and three.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: Um I I think much different expectations going into the year for Baylor in Texas Tech, and yet we find ourselves in very similar situations.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: Um, Joe, I haven't watched much Baylor.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna be honest with you this year.
- 3:35SPEAKER_04: I haven't watched a lot of it.
- 3:36SPEAKER_04: I don't know what the heck's going on with this team.
- 3:38SPEAKER_04: It seems like every week it's something different with them.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: Uh give me kind of your overall thoughts on this year's Baylor team.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: So like this year's Baylor team, it's like a piece of art that when you're looking at it, just like you're just sitting there and you're like, okay, there's this painting that's sitting in front of me.
- 3:56SPEAKER_05: You're like, that's like that's okay.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: That's I guess that's all right.
- 4:01SPEAKER_05: And then, but then somebody hands you a pamphlet that has like the statistics about the art, and you're like, How the hell this art is apparently really good, like, but I don't know how that's what I've kind of felt.
- 4:13SPEAKER_05: Like, I think maybe I'll get skewered for this, I don't know.
- 4:17SPEAKER_05: Uh, but like you watch our offense, for example, and they don't they don't feel like they're good, but they score a bunch of points here and there, and then you look at the offensive stats, especially like the the analytics, like the advanced stats on it, you're like, wow, they're actually like really good.
- 4:32SPEAKER_05: They don't they don't feel like they felt last year.
- 4:34SPEAKER_05: The defense, on the other hand, is just kind of uh slow.
- 4:39SPEAKER_05: I think is the term I would use right now for them.
- 4:42SPEAKER_05: Um but it's weird, they're they feel snake bit more than anything.
- 4:46SPEAKER_05: Uh, we've we've had some amazing luck with like one possession games, and I really don't think like luck plays into one possession games, as some people say, but I do think luck plays into like turnovers, and we cannot we cannot get turnovers this year like we have in years past.
- 5:01SPEAKER_05: We can't get off the field in third and long.
- 5:04SPEAKER_05: Um, so they just feel a little bit more snake bit than they have in the years past, and some of that law of averages stuff, the stuff that always bounced our way for the last couple of years is not bouncing our way this year, and it's brought us way back to the mean.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: I I was really high on Blake Shapen going into the year.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: I thought he was gonna be uh, you know, one of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: I saw him play against us last year.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: You know, he was really solid when they made the decision basically for him to start over Bohannon uh before the season started.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, that was surprising to me, and that made me think they have a lot of confidence in this kid.
- 5:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, what has Blake Shapen done right?
- 5:40SPEAKER_04: What has Blake Shapen done wrong this year?
- 5:42SPEAKER_05: What Blake Shapen has done right is grow.
- 5:44SPEAKER_05: What Blake Shapen has done wrong is be really young and inexperienced.
- 5:49SPEAKER_05: Uh and there there are there are mechanical things in decision making that will improve, but it's it's a lot of stuff that you look at and you're like, Yeah, he's a first-time starting quarterback.
- 6:00SPEAKER_05: You know, he's a kid that um like spent half of his time playing baseball in high school.
- 6:04SPEAKER_05: It's not like he was a one sport athlete.
- 6:06SPEAKER_05: He was recruited both to play baseball and football at Baylor.
- 6:09SPEAKER_05: Um, so he's a kid that you know he's gotta he's gotta kind of get some reps, I think, to get a good pocket presence, understand when's the right time to run, maybe get a little bit more accurate here or there.
- 6:21SPEAKER_05: But as a quarterback, he's definitely a better QB than Bo Hannon was last year.
- 6:25SPEAKER_05: I mean, he has got way more arm talent, he can throw the ball down the field better.
- 6:29SPEAKER_05: Um, he's a little bit more aggressive.
- 6:32SPEAKER_05: Um, but I've watched Blake Shapen grow game over game over game.
- 6:37SPEAKER_05: You know, when we lost to BYU, he really looked shell-shocked 100%.
- 6:41SPEAKER_05: Like it looked deer in the headlights in that game.
- 6:44SPEAKER_05: Um, but going into Ames, for example, wasn't shaken at all in that game.
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: He had the best game of his life at in Morgantown on a Thursday night in West Virginia.
- 6:53SPEAKER_05: He just got knocked out of that game and our defense let us down.
- 6:56SPEAKER_05: So he's he's somebody I'm really excited about.
- 6:59SPEAKER_05: Um, and then what's crazy is we have Kyron Jones right behind him, who when he got when Shapin got hurt in West Virginia, drones came in and looked like really good.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: So this might be this might be one of the better quarterback rooms Baylor's had in a while.
- 7:11SPEAKER_05: But Shapin definitely has room to grow.
- 7:14SPEAKER_05: He'll just get there as he plays more.
- 7:15SPEAKER_06: Please don't tell me he has legs.
- 7:17SPEAKER_06: No, no, is he legless?
- 7:20SPEAKER_06: No, is he just a torso in arms and head?
- 7:23SPEAKER_05: He is mobile, but he has also been concussed this year, and um he's not like he is not a run first quarterback, he's more of like run as the very, very, very last option kind of quarterback.
- 7:35SPEAKER_05: Praise be.
- 7:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's actually something we're we're both going in with really young quarterbacks that are playing their first, you know, real starting minutes, um, you know, as college uh quarterbacks here for power five teams.
- 7:47SPEAKER_04: Baron Morton has surprised me uh just in the fact that he knows how to dive.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: And that's something that I have been very happy with because man, he can get out and run, but he knows when to go down.
- 7:59SPEAKER_04: And yeah, it's maybe not going to get the first down every time, but uh that's gonna make your career last a lot longer than taking all these big hits.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: Uh, we've seen that now with Tyler Shook uh twice this year, uh going down with a major injury just by not going down when he should have.
- 8:12SPEAKER_04: Um, but you know, Baylor lost a ton from last year's team.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: Uh a lot.
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: Like what?
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: I think he had five, six NFL players that were drafted in last year's team.
- 8:23SPEAKER_05: Six or seven, yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, uh just a ton, and especially on defense, and you're really seeing the effect of that.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: Um, these teams are putting up points against y'all.
- 8:31SPEAKER_04: Um, what are the what are the weak points?
- 8:33SPEAKER_04: What are the strong points of this defense?
- 8:36SPEAKER_05: The weakest point right now is the uh the outside secondary, so the corners.
- 8:40SPEAKER_05: Um, you you you can if you go watch our games, you'll notice they are pretty much 10 yards off the ball on every single play.
- 8:47SPEAKER_05: Um, the coaches really have not been aggressive in saying like they're very afraid of getting beat deep.
- 8:52SPEAKER_05: The other thing that Aranda's doing is he's running too high um because he needs the safeties back to help the corners because they still don't even trust him with about 10 yards off.
- 9:01SPEAKER_05: Um, they're just like real young.
- 9:03SPEAKER_05: So when he does that, that negates what made us so successful last year with like a Jalen Petrie was that Petrie was a safety that played the star position for us, which meant he played around the box a lot, and they got really creative with how they'd use him.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: Sometimes they would drop him back and we would play it too high.
- 9:20SPEAKER_05: Sometimes he would blitz, sometimes he would be in run support, sometimes they would have him rush the passer and drop the end, which is like something that we did in the Big 12 championship game.
- 9:29SPEAKER_05: Our defensive end picked off Spencer Sanders in that game.
- 9:32SPEAKER_05: Um, so when you have to play your safeties back and you have to play your corners off, it takes away some of the creativity that we've seen in our defense.
- 9:40SPEAKER_05: Um, our defensive line is great.
- 9:43SPEAKER_05: Um, they're they've been do they've been very good, except at rushing the passer.
- 9:47SPEAKER_05: We kind of feel a step late on that.
- 9:49SPEAKER_05: Uh, that's not going to benefit us against you guys because you guys get the ball out quick, throw it underneath, and then run a play immediately three seconds later.
- 9:57SPEAKER_05: Um, I remember those days.
- 9:59SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, it's like tech is back.
- 10:03SPEAKER_05: I hate it.
- 10:03SPEAKER_04: Um, the the tempo, the tempo has been really fun to see, uh, especially with Baron Norton at the helm because he's the guy that can really run that the best.
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: Uh it's been awesome.
- 10:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, you're seeing 90 plays a game, 100 plays a game.
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: We're just throwing these defenses off.
- 10:18SPEAKER_04: We saw West Virginia.
- 10:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's you again.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: It's fun.
- 10:24SPEAKER_04: We're playing great offense, but we're actually winning games now.
- 10:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like but that's what made that's what made the country care about Texas Tech was it was like, what are these crazy dudes doing down there?
- 10:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:36SPEAKER_06: They we actually have a gunslinger again, man.
- 10:38SPEAKER_06: I don't know, it's it's been a while since we've really had a quarterback where you look at him and go, Yeah, that's a Texas Tech quarterback.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: Baron Morton is that like quintessential Texas Tech quarterback, you know, and we finally got a gunslinger back.
- 10:50SPEAKER_05: So one of my really close friends from high school during the Leech era, it was when you guys had Baron Batch.
- 10:56SPEAKER_05: Um, and he would sit there like anytime, anytime he heard anybody be like, he'd be like, It's not an air raid offense.
- 11:02SPEAKER_05: We have you see what Baron Batch does.
- 11:05SPEAKER_05: He's such a good did you see how much we run him?
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, it's the same thing when Mahomes and Cliff were here.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: You know, DeAndre Washington, I think, led the Big 12 in rushing one year, uh with that offense with Patrick Mahomes and with Clip Gainsbury.
- 11:19SPEAKER_04: And we were like, Yeah, it's the tempo, it's still kind of yeah, it's an air rate.
- 11:23SPEAKER_06: They the air raid is Schrdinger's offense, yeah, that's all it is.
- 11:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, like no one ever said, like it's like apparently it exists, but it doesn't at all exist.
- 11:33SPEAKER_05: I remember that during our our spread era too, where we're like they'd call us the air raid.
- 11:37SPEAKER_05: I'm like, we run the ball 50 times a game, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:41SPEAKER_04: No, and we've definitely had a much more balanced attack.
- 11:43SPEAKER_04: Like, we are not Mike Leach air raid where we literally don't use running backs, you know.
- 11:48SPEAKER_04: This is kind of a uh a balance, it's just we play really fast and we do throw a lot of passes, but that's because we're running a lot of plays.
- 11:55SPEAKER_04: Um the the thing about this game, I I need to know from a Baylor fan's perspective what is kind of the consensus amongst Baylor fans right now going into this game.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: What's the how's the confidence meter of y'all potentially taking one and loving?
- 12:10SPEAKER_05: So I wouldn't say confidence is high, I wouldn't say confidence is low.
- 12:14SPEAKER_05: I I'll tell you where I'm at.
- 12:16SPEAKER_05: I'm at the we are for sure gonna lose this game.
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: Like, that's where my head was at.
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: And then Vegas comes out with a two and a half point spread on the road, which I'm like, okay, that's you're telling me it's a coin flip.
- 12:30SPEAKER_05: And then nine out of ten of the analytics sites that I've seen are telling me this is like a half point game.
- 12:35SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, okay, like maybe I'm dumb.
- 12:39SPEAKER_05: But no, I I am you know, I'll be honest with you.
- 12:42SPEAKER_05: I I I wasn't super confident going into this one.
- 12:45SPEAKER_05: It's a night game, it's in Lubbock, it's the night you're honoring Patrick Mahomes, it's Joey McGuire.
- 12:51SPEAKER_05: It's like there's so much there to get you guys hyped about.
- 12:55SPEAKER_05: Um, but what I've convinced myself of now is that it's gonna be too much for y'all to handle.
- 13:01SPEAKER_05: Okay, and it there's just there's gonna be too much noise, there's too much positivity, you're too excited about things, and you forget that sneaky little Baylor is gonna come into Love Eck and steal this one away, and we're gonna shut gauchos up with his goddamn 32-year-old.
- 13:21SPEAKER_04: He loves he loves uh putting the game.
- 13:23SPEAKER_05: I want to win this game more than anything just so I never have to hear that we the year 1990 ever again.
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, he's he's really been milking that one.
- 13:32SPEAKER_04: We've uh we've been appreciated.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: Tristan from the Texas Tech side, what do you think?
- 13:37SPEAKER_04: You where's your head at?
- 13:39SPEAKER_04: And where do you think the consensus amongst tech fans are at right now with this game?
- 13:43SPEAKER_06: I would I would say we're pretty warm right now.
- 13:45SPEAKER_06: I mean, you you have a lot of reasons to be comp confident going into this game.
- 13:49SPEAKER_06: Um, we're undefeated at home, and my big ass dog is like under my feet trying to flip me off my tail right now, off my chair right now.
- 13:58SPEAKER_06: So I apologize.
- 13:59SPEAKER_06: But uh, yeah, no, we're undefeated at home.
- 14:02SPEAKER_06: And has Baylor snagged one on the road yet?
- 14:05SPEAKER_06: We won an Ames.
- 14:06SPEAKER_06: Ames, that's right.
- 14:07SPEAKER_06: And and Iowa State is looking a little shaky, you know, right now, but um I would say we're feeling a little warm.
- 14:13SPEAKER_06: Like, I'm not saying we're lukewarm, I'm not saying we're room temperature.
- 14:16SPEAKER_06: It's uh I would say we're a little we're we're feeling pretty confident right now.
- 14:20SPEAKER_06: Like, I I would I'm not saying like uh slam the uh slam the win, you know, it's been Vegas isn't even saying that right now, so yeah, but I would say we're feeling pretty confident.
- 14:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean I think a lot of people just from an outsider's perspective are looking in, they're saying, hey, Baylor was kind of pricked picked to be, you know, one of the best teams in the Big 12 here, and they're sitting at four and three, you know, a disappointing loss to BYU earlier in the year, loss to West Virginia that you really shouldn't have.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: You know, you played tight against Iowa State, and uh they're looking at Texas Tech, who a lot of people expected us to start one and five.
- 14:52SPEAKER_04: And uh, we're sitting here with a winning record seven games in.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, I think the overall consensus right now is that Texas Tech is probably looking to win in Lubbock with this uh with this undefeated home record, Patrick Mahomes, everything you mentioned um earlier.
- 15:10SPEAKER_04: Uh what my confidence is actually pretty high with this one.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: And I like to be level-headed going into these games.
- 15:19SPEAKER_04: I like to not expect too much from Texas Tech football, but I just think Baron Morton has kind of lit a friggin' spark on your team.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: Um, and and these guys are rallying behind them.
- 15:29SPEAKER_04: We're finally playing the kind of offense that Zach Kitley wants to play, uh, and you couldn't really do that with Donovan Smith.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: Um, and and you've got Barron Morton now, and so that that's what gets me excited.
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: Um Baylor, though, always plays it tight with Texas Tech, especially since the series stopped uh with that you know game in Arlington at Jerry World.
- 15:51SPEAKER_04: Now we're going back to home and home.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: This is what it should have been.
- 15:54SPEAKER_04: We've never should have played that game in Arlington.
- 15:55SPEAKER_04: I love the home and home that we do with Baylor, uh, but they've been tight.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: I think it's been seven points total the last three games that Baylor and Texas Tech have played um in differential.
- 16:08SPEAKER_04: Baylor took it in 2019 and 2021, and tech squeezed out a one-point win in the Jones last time during a COVID year.
- 16:15SPEAKER_04: Joe, is this just because is this like one of those rivalry games that is always gonna be close no matter what from now on?
- 16:24SPEAKER_04: I think so, dude.
- 16:25SPEAKER_05: Like, I think this is both of these teams, like it's it's gonna be it's gonna be really hard to like beat a Dave Aranda team.
- 16:34SPEAKER_05: And I think it's also gonna be really hard to just like obliterate a Joey Maguire team.
- 16:38SPEAKER_05: Plus, but these teams get excited to play like the there's there's a vibe about this game, right?
- 16:44SPEAKER_05: When we first started playing it in the cotton bowl slash Jerry World, I think both sides were kind of like, Why are you trying to like force this shootout thing on us?
- 16:52SPEAKER_05: Like, we're not rivals, no, but we we we did it enough times, and there like there have been enough like fun little storylines involved, and it's it's never really been a big blowout game, like even when we've been really good and y'all were bad, you still played us pretty well, like and there were times like you guys kicked our ass in what uh Mahomes was last year.
- 17:13SPEAKER_05: Um, I want to say so you know it it's it's become such a fun game, especially between the fan bases, and now that there's the Joey Maguire tie, I think it's it's to another level.
- 17:24SPEAKER_05: So I mean, we're I think I think it's safe to say like we're a the butt bowl, it's not just like a funny thing anymore, like still pretty funny, yeah.
- 17:34SPEAKER_05: It you know, it's always gonna be funny, but it's also real.
- 17:39SPEAKER_06: It's a sellout crowd, you know, it's it's a it's a blackout crowd, it's a sellout crowd.
- 17:44SPEAKER_06: So I I we're really hyped.
- 17:46SPEAKER_06: I mean it's the first sellout since the UT was the UT game sellout?
- 17:48SPEAKER_06: I think it was.
- 17:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the UT game sellout.
- 17:50SPEAKER_05: And then so are if are we gonna make predictions for this game?
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, of course.
- 17:56SPEAKER_05: Okay, so I'll I'll go first with this.
- 17:58SPEAKER_05: My thing is I mentioned at the top, you guys are back.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: It's it's old Texas Tech is here once again.
- 18:06SPEAKER_06: Which one for you, Joe?
- 18:09SPEAKER_06: Which one?
- 18:10SPEAKER_05: Which one's back?
- 18:12SPEAKER_05: We're not talking like the one that you love, but the one that you love, the problem is after you beat Texas, the next game that you want to win really bad, you lose really bad.
- 18:23SPEAKER_05: That's that's the old Texas tech kind of way, right there.
- 18:27SPEAKER_05: Sure.
- 18:27SPEAKER_05: Is is you get the super high, and you get like, like you said, you're undefeated at home, you got a nice little win streak, you're riding a good high, you've beaten Texas, and then you just you're like that infomercial where like the guy's carrying all of the uh the stuff to wash his car and he just fumbles it off, yeah, just all over the hood.
- 18:45SPEAKER_05: So that's why Baylor's winning this game by 10.
- 18:47SPEAKER_06: By 10 by 10, multiple scores.
- 18:51SPEAKER_04: Okay, wow, okay.
- 18:53SPEAKER_05: What's it would have been worse, but I think we're gonna take our our our uh our foot off the pedal a little bit.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: High high scoring, low scoring.
- 19:01SPEAKER_05: It's gonna be it.
- 19:02SPEAKER_05: We take the over.
- 19:04SPEAKER_04: Okay, okay, right on.
- 19:06SPEAKER_04: I can appreciate that.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: I can appreciate that.
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, yeah, definitely with both of these teams, uh offenses, we've seen them be super juiced.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: Um, and I mean what y'all's the West Virginia game, y'all were what 43 to 40?
- 19:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and we lost.
- 19:22SPEAKER_05: You want to know something that's crazy?
- 19:24SPEAKER_05: We would be five and one, or no, it's yeah, we would be or six and one now on the year if we had just made all of our extra points this year.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: That's the worst, man.
- 19:35SPEAKER_06: There's no there is no worse way to lose a game, yeah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, we wouldn't have gone, we wouldn't have had to go to overtime with BYU if we had made all our extra points.
- 19:43SPEAKER_05: West Virginia beat us by three, they blocked an extra point and returned it for two points in that game.
- 19:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that was that was wild.
- 19:51SPEAKER_06: So a transit of property, does Liberty wax Baylor?
- 19:55SPEAKER_06: Oh, I hate you.
- 19:59SPEAKER_05: That's how it works.
- 20:01SPEAKER_05: To be fair, they've already beaten us, so yes, yep, a few years ago.
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: Um, Joe, listen, everything you said was true of Texas Tech in the past, but this is now uh if you if you didn't know, uh Joey McGuire is now coaching this football team.
- 20:17SPEAKER_04: And never heard of that.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: And uh he's just so much different than the last, I don't know, three guys that we've had.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: Um in terms of culture, in terms of getting these guys to wake up and play hard for every single game, because we have in every single game.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: Now, NC State, we didn't play well, but we played hard, and that's everything you need to ask for out of a Texas Tech team.
- 20:43SPEAKER_04: Um, Tristan, give me your prediction and then I'll finish this off.
- 20:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah, man, I love that.
- 20:49SPEAKER_06: I mean, I love that we you know we play hard and we haven't been blown out.
- 20:52SPEAKER_06: I'm just grateful for not being blown out, you know.
- 20:54SPEAKER_06: Like that's it's such a small pleasure, but I I'm indulging in it.
- 20:58SPEAKER_06: Like it's it's a small victory you can take from L's, right?
- 21:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because sheesh, we we've seen our share of blowouts.
- 21:04SPEAKER_06: Um, not the good way.
- 21:06SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go with um I'm gonna go with like a tight score, like a 36-32.
- 21:11SPEAKER_06: I'm thinking dual 30s here.
- 21:13SPEAKER_06: Dual 30s, yes, and just a a either slightly over a field goal sort of score or below a touchdown sort of score, or just a maximum seven points kind of zone we're talking about here.
- 21:25SPEAKER_06: I got not 10, Joe, not at least 10, whatever the hell you're talking about.
- 21:31SPEAKER_04: I you know, he's making some sense.
- 21:33SPEAKER_04: Blackout, Joey's return, Patrick Mahomes getting inducted.
- 21:36SPEAKER_04: There's a lot going on, there's a lot uh sellout, everybody's hyped up, and uh yeah, we're expecting a win here.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: I think I think most Texas Tech fans are.
- 21:45SPEAKER_06: Be before before you get to there, Steven.
- 21:47SPEAKER_06: I just gotta say that Patrick Mahomes does have two more years of eligibility, so the Baylor Bears might be in for quite the surprise.
- 21:54SPEAKER_05: You know what?
- 21:55SPEAKER_05: I I would love that era of Texas Tech to come back with.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: No, no, no.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: No, please.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: No, now if Patrick Mahomes had a Tyree Wilson, maybe.
- 22:05SPEAKER_04: How about you?
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: Come on down.
- 22:07SPEAKER_05: But I'll let you use, I'll let you use him, but you have to bring back Kingsbury too.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: No, thank you.
- 22:13SPEAKER_04: Please just move on.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: I think all Cardinal fans would agree uh that uh we're just ready to move on for the Cliff Times.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: Loved him as a player, Coach Ish.
- 22:23SPEAKER_04: Um, this game, I am going 41-38.
- 22:26SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech pulls out a victory.
- 22:29SPEAKER_04: Uh tech goes up early, couple touchdowns.
- 22:32SPEAKER_04: We kind of ease off the gas a little bit.
- 22:33SPEAKER_04: The crowd kind of starts to die down after it's becoming you know a little lopsided.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: And then Baylor makes their way back.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: They keep fighting.
- 22:41SPEAKER_04: It's Dave Aranda.
- 22:42SPEAKER_04: He knows how to coach a football team uh and gets them back into it.
- 22:46SPEAKER_04: And then eventually Texas Tech just maintains that slight win uh to even the all-time series.
- 22:53SPEAKER_04: Uh well, what would it be?
- 22:54SPEAKER_04: 40, 40, and one if tech rules out.
- 22:56SPEAKER_05: 40 and one.
- 22:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_04: So I mean, that's just that's even too.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: You gotta love that.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: 40, 40, and one, it's gotta happen.
- 23:03SPEAKER_05: God, we need to do something special for the hundredth game.
- 23:07SPEAKER_06: So, shoot, yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_06: All right, so uh we meet back here in 28 years.
- 23:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, there you go.
- 23:13SPEAKER_06: All right, cool.
- 23:13SPEAKER_04: No, that's like was that correct math?
- 23:16SPEAKER_06: That'd be 19.
- 23:17SPEAKER_06: That's the correct math.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: That's yeah, not 28 years.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: Hey, Steven, Steven.
- 23:26SPEAKER_07: What did you say?
- 23:29SPEAKER_06: What uh what do you mean podcasts aren't a thing anymore?
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: Can't be a good old day.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: Three men would get together and talk about a microphone on the internet.
- 23:44SPEAKER_06: What a start to incidence.
- 23:46SPEAKER_06: Three men would get together.
- 23:49SPEAKER_04: Oh back in my day, we drank beers and watched House of the Dragon, Sonny.
- 23:54SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 23:55SPEAKER_04: Oh not me.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: Not you haven't seen it yet.
- 23:59SPEAKER_04: No, you haven't seen it.
- 24:00SPEAKER_05: Oh no, dude, Tristan, I'm uh disappointed you haven't gotten into the hot D.
- 24:04SPEAKER_04: Oh, Tristan's been on one today, and this could lead to more people not listening to our podcast.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: Uh that's what the deck segment's for.
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the next segment we'll get to that, but no, he came in with a spicy take to uh to the group text today.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: Uh he said Lord of the Rings is better than the Game of Thrones uh universe.
- 24:22SPEAKER_06: I think that's pretty mild.
- 24:24SPEAKER_06: Is it what the universes like we so we're talking about?
- 24:28SPEAKER_04: Like better, uh yeah.
- 24:30SPEAKER_04: What what's better?
- 24:31SPEAKER_04: The Lord of the Rings, uh Lord of the Rings movies, plus I guess this new TV show.
- 24:36SPEAKER_05: I don't want or the game of the rings.
- 24:38SPEAKER_05: You're you're you're comparing like you're comparing Babe Ruth to like Aaron Judge.
- 24:48SPEAKER_05: There's a new hotness, sure, but the other one's like one of the greatest of all time.
- 24:53SPEAKER_06: Joe, we're talking about the same century here, though.
- 24:56SPEAKER_06: Like this isn't like this, this isn't like a generational gap, you know.
- 25:02SPEAKER_05: It is a generation between Tolkien and yeah, no, like Tolkien is hands down better.
- 25:06SPEAKER_05: Like, thank you.
- 25:08SPEAKER_05: Like Tolkien Tolkien is babe Ruth.
- 25:10SPEAKER_04: Like, see, Steven, see, it wasn't this was a very spicy.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: I've never okay.
- 25:15SPEAKER_05: I can't I'm going to London in March.
- 25:18SPEAKER_05: All right, like for my my birthday's in March.
- 25:20SPEAKER_05: I'm going to London.
- 25:21SPEAKER_05: And one of the main reasons I'm gonna go watch a Tottenham game there, but the other like the other like my wife is like, What's the other thing you have to do?
- 25:28SPEAKER_05: I said, We have to go to Oxford because like that's where Tolkien like wrote the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.
- 25:34SPEAKER_05: I want to go to the bookstore that's there and buy a copy of the Hobbit.
- 25:36SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm a nerd.
- 25:37SPEAKER_05: Tolkien, yeah, I'm a Tolkien will always be at the top of my list.
- 25:40SPEAKER_05: Man, I was the wrong person to come to think that's what I'm talking about.
- 25:43SPEAKER_06: See, so you're saying that is some that is some mild AF bland food take right there, Steven.
- 25:49SPEAKER_04: Okay, maybe so.
- 25:50SPEAKER_04: Uh, also, what I got from that is Joe's a big Spurs fan.
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: Uh, always has been, always will be.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: We appreciate that.
- 25:56SPEAKER_04: Come on, you spurs.
- 25:59SPEAKER_04: Um, all right, Tristan, you wanted to bring this up, so you introduced this uh this next segment here.
- 26:04SPEAKER_06: All right, so since uh overrated songs were such a hit, I don't know how this kind of sparked up, but I know Joe was kind of involved with this of like what is the most overrated food on the uh like on the planet.
- 26:17SPEAKER_06: So I'll I'll go ahead and start this off and get people really fired up at the start.
- 26:22SPEAKER_06: I already tweeted this, so people might already be familiar with the steak, but it's mac and cheese.
- 26:26SPEAKER_06: Mac and cheese is my first pick for most overrated food in the world.
- 26:30SPEAKER_06: It's a great comfort food, don't get me wrong.
- 26:32SPEAKER_06: It's got a high floor, but a terribly low ceiling.
- 26:37SPEAKER_06: Like you can't make mac and cheese more than it is.
- 26:40SPEAKER_06: It's it's always gonna be kind of bland, cheesy and good, but there's nothing exciting about mac and cheese, and it always sucks at restaurants.
- 26:48SPEAKER_06: Never order it at a restaurant, it just tastes better at home.
- 26:52SPEAKER_05: All right, Steven, I want to know what you think on this one.
- 26:55SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'm a uh I'm a lover of mac and cheese.
- 26:59SPEAKER_04: I probably consume more mac and cheese than most 26-year-olds should.
- 27:03SPEAKER_05: Uh, listeners, you can't see us right now, but there's there's a look of like deep disappointment on Steven's face right now.
- 27:11SPEAKER_05: That's seriousness, as if you just found out your brother has committed a crime.
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: It's just so consistently good everywhere.
- 27:24SPEAKER_04: I don't care what you say about restaurant mag and cheese, it's always a good choice as a side.
- 27:28SPEAKER_06: It is okay, it's always a good choice.
- 27:31SPEAKER_06: But even then, it's not even a good choice as a side.
- 27:32SPEAKER_06: I bet there's way better sides with much more flavor to choose from.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: I dude, who doesn't love cheese and pasta?
- 27:38SPEAKER_06: That's I mean, I understand that, but where's the flavor in that?
- 27:42SPEAKER_06: It's cheese and bread.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's not delicious.
- 27:45SPEAKER_04: That's two of the best things in the world is cheese and bread, dude.
- 27:48SPEAKER_06: What are you talking about?
- 27:50SPEAKER_06: Oh no, no, this is no mac and cheese.
- 27:52SPEAKER_06: What do you think?
- 27:53SPEAKER_06: Where do you land here?
- 27:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, what are your thoughts?
- 27:55SPEAKER_05: All right, I'll tell you what.
- 27:56SPEAKER_05: I agree with Tristan in that yes, mac and cheese has a low floor and a high ceiling, but I'm gonna agree with Steven and that that floor is so high, it is, it's a high floor.
- 28:10SPEAKER_05: Is adequately rated, adequately?
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: I don't know, people lose their bananas.
- 28:15SPEAKER_06: I've I have never I have who loses for bananas over mac and cheese.
- 28:19SPEAKER_05: Like, I've never ordered mac and cheese and thought, like, man, I really wish I didn't order mac and cheese.
- 28:25unknown: Really?
- 28:26SPEAKER_06: Like, even like as a side, like at Chick-fil-A, you're gonna order like the mac and cheese instead of the wobble fries.
- 28:31SPEAKER_05: No, because I just wouldn't do that, but like, but when I'm in the mood for mac and cheese, like it always hits.
- 28:37SPEAKER_05: Like, I've never been disappointed in mac and cheese.
- 28:39SPEAKER_04: It's just oh, it never can.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: I don't care what anybody says.
- 28:42SPEAKER_04: Some people say craft's disgusting.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Kraft is fine.
- 28:45SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm down with it.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: Velveiro is fine, it's fine.
- 28:48SPEAKER_06: I'm down with it, but like at Thanksgiving, like people serving up mac and cheese at Thanksgiving.
- 28:53SPEAKER_06: I'm not away with it.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: I'm going with it.
- 28:55SPEAKER_04: I get everything at Thanksgiving.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: Stop it.
- 28:57SPEAKER_04: You don't get everything that's on that's been for the kids' table.
- 29:00SPEAKER_05: No, what if for everybody's magic?
- 29:02SPEAKER_05: Hold on, you don't get everything.
- 29:03SPEAKER_05: What if somebody cooks like way too many vegetables?
- 29:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:08SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 29:09SPEAKER_04: So yeah.
- 29:10SPEAKER_04: Well, I will say not of carbs around here.
- 29:12SPEAKER_04: I will say my my uncle brings a joke kind of dish to Thanksgiving every year, and it says carrot salad, and it's the most disgusting thing I've ever had in real life.
- 29:22SPEAKER_04: So, yes, if carrot salad is being served, and no, this isn't this isn't just like sliced up carrots, it's sliced up carrots with vinegar and like four pounds of salt, it's disgusting.
- 29:34SPEAKER_06: Oh god, I was kind of there until you said like the overuse of salt.
- 29:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, no, he loves it, and it's he's the only one that eats it.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: But no, Joe, what were you what were you gonna say?
- 29:45SPEAKER_05: Oh, I mean, I I just I just I don't think like mac and cheese is like super rated high anyway.
- 29:51SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't think like if you pulled a million people and were like, What's your favorite food?
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: Like, I don't know how many would say if you pulled a million five-year-olds, they would say yes.
- 29:59SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's my favorite food, dino nuggets, you know, yeah, dino nuggets.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's that's the goat meal, but no, yeah, well, like I I can't I get where Tristan's coming from, but yeah, like I think I just say adequately rated.
- 30:13SPEAKER_04: That's that's it's okay, yeah.
- 30:15SPEAKER_04: See, I would say it's adequately rated too.
- 30:17SPEAKER_04: I probably like it more than most, but uh yeah, it's overrated for five-year-olds, I'll give you that one.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: All right, Joe, what do you got?
- 30:25SPEAKER_04: What's your most overrated food take?
- 30:28SPEAKER_05: Pizza.
- 30:29SPEAKER_07: Oh, breaking our tailor in channel.
- 30:33SPEAKER_05: I'm throwing haymakers.
- 30:34SPEAKER_05: Look, I I will I was once told by somebody that like pizza is like sex, even when it's bad, it's still pretty good if you're a guy.
- 30:43SPEAKER_05: Um, but we're all men here, we can all we're all gentlemen here, yeah.
- 30:50SPEAKER_05: Like, you know, uh I I I will admit that there's probably been times where that that statement isn't true for women, but uh pizza is like one of those things where it's like, yeah, like I'm never upset I ate pizza, but you can absolutely ruin a pizza by just putting way too many toppings on it, throwing pineapple on it.
- 31:08SPEAKER_06: I don't know, like slow down, slow down.
- 31:11SPEAKER_06: We can let him finish, let him finish, let him let him complete the monologue.
- 31:16SPEAKER_05: But there there have been so many times where I like I get excited about pizza, right?
- 31:20SPEAKER_05: Where I'm like, dude, I'm gonna order some pizza tonight, it's gonna be the best thing in the world.
- 31:24SPEAKER_05: I throw some like pepperoni, some bacon, I do some maybe some sun-dried tomatoes, some jalapenos, and I get that thing over, and it's like I put way too much on this, and it is so unruly.
- 31:36SPEAKER_05: And then I don't know, man.
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm just never as excited uh after I eat pizza as I was before I ate the pizza.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: So pizza to me, definitely most overrated.
- 31:47SPEAKER_06: I I'm I'm with you, dude.
- 31:49SPEAKER_06: I think she pizza is pretty overrated as well.
- 31:51SPEAKER_06: Uh, Steve and I have this thing where like anytime we're alone, like if the ladies aren't here, we're gonna go get our our manly.
- 31:57SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna just buy a crap load of food and go crazy.
- 32:00SPEAKER_06: It's never pizza, like I'm never going and getting pizza.
- 32:03SPEAKER_06: I'm not, you know, but I'm I'm I'm I'm going opposite with you though, Joe.
- 32:07SPEAKER_06: If I'm getting pizza, it's gonna be a rodeo of a pizza.
- 32:10SPEAKER_06: It's gonna have oh, so you're you're you're you you're getting a pie.
- 32:12SPEAKER_06: I'm just these big toppings guys.
- 32:14SPEAKER_06: I needed everything on there, I need it to be as weird as possible.
- 32:18SPEAKER_06: I do, I do.
- 32:20SPEAKER_05: See, I do that and I always regret it.
- 32:22SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm always like, you know what would have tasted better than all this right now?
- 32:25SPEAKER_05: Just a slice of cheese.
- 32:27SPEAKER_05: No, no, I'm not there.
- 32:29SPEAKER_05: That's that's not me.
- 32:30SPEAKER_06: Now we're talking about like mac and cheese, man.
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: So you're losing me again.
- 32:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but man, like a good slice of cheese pizza, like it's just so it's just so simple.
- 32:39SPEAKER_06: I yeah, it's but it's boring, you know.
- 32:42SPEAKER_06: That's my thing.
- 32:43SPEAKER_06: I'll give you that.
- 32:44SPEAKER_06: Overrated.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: Overrated cheese pizza, overrated.
- 32:48SPEAKER_05: Pizza General overrated.
- 32:50SPEAKER_05: Steven, Steven, where do you land?
- 32:51SPEAKER_05: Where do you land?
- 32:53SPEAKER_04: I never crave pizza.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: I never do.
- 32:56SPEAKER_04: I never crave it.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: I'm never like, yeah, I want some pizza.
- 32:59SPEAKER_04: I I'm not.
- 33:00SPEAKER_04: So from that perspective, yes, I do agree because I think people love the stuff and can't get enough of it.
- 33:08SPEAKER_04: And yes, I would agree pizza is overrated.
- 33:11SPEAKER_04: Um, when it comes to toppings, I like a uh medium amount of toppings.
- 33:17SPEAKER_04: I don't need an overwhelming amount of stuff.
- 33:19SPEAKER_04: I still need to be able to grab the slice and eat it with my hands.
- 33:22SPEAKER_04: I don't need to be picking at it later with all the all the toppings falling off.
- 33:27SPEAKER_04: No, I I will not be the first one to suggest pizza.
- 33:32SPEAKER_04: Now it's great for parties, it's great if you have a lot of people, everything like that.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: That's where it hits.
- 33:36SPEAKER_05: Like it is it is convenient for a group, but when you order it by yourself, you end up eating what's meant for a group.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: For sure, for sure.
- 33:44SPEAKER_04: But no, I will agree.
- 33:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, even though I went completely against this uh when I was alone a couple weekends ago, I did just get a bunch of garlic knots and a bunch and a and a pizza for myself because I was alone and I just felt like it was the time.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, even though I didn't crave it, even though I didn't love my choice, I still did it.
- 34:01SPEAKER_04: And I I, you know, I it's whatever.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: But yeah, pizza overall, I would say is over it.
- 34:08SPEAKER_06: I love how like products at these fast food pizza shops is just a variation of the dough in different ways.
- 34:15SPEAKER_06: It's just like, all right, here's a balled up part of the dough and with some garlic salt on it.
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: There it's garlic and a ton of butter.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: Here you go.
- 34:24SPEAKER_06: Y'all want a hot take with pizza?
- 34:26SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 34:27SPEAKER_06: I only want like one protein on my pizza.
- 34:30SPEAKER_06: I like I like a bunch of vegetables and stuff on my pizza.
- 34:34SPEAKER_06: I don't like it meaty.
- 34:36SPEAKER_04: So you're not a big meat lovers guy.
- 34:38SPEAKER_06: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 34:39SPEAKER_06: I would much rather a supreme or something.
- 34:41SPEAKER_04: It's like the go-to growing up was like we need a meat lover's pizza, just because I don't know why, but it was just what we went to.
- 34:48SPEAKER_05: I like my dad, my dad was a meat lovers orderer.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: I like a balance.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: I like a balance.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: Give me a veg, give me one meat, give me, I don't know, maybe a little extra, maybe jalapeno or two every once in a while.
- 35:00SPEAKER_04: But uh yeah, no, I am a big pineapple guy though.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: I will I will die on that hill.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: I'm a massive pineapple on pizza guy.
- 35:07SPEAKER_05: Oh man, it's the savory and sweets, yes.
- 35:11SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna let people in, I'm gonna let people enjoy things.
- 35:14SPEAKER_05: Let people enjoy things.
- 35:17SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: Y'all want to hear something?
- 35:20SPEAKER_05: Oh, drop the bomb.
- 35:23SPEAKER_05: Let me hear it.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: Italian food.
- 35:27SPEAKER_06: It's the most you're going after a whole shop.
- 35:30SPEAKER_04: I'm going after the whole country right now of Italy.
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: It's it's it's pasta, which is so basic it hurts, and a red sauce or a white sauce.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: And that's every single Italian dish that there is.
- 35:45SPEAKER_04: It's some sort of pasta with some sort of red or white sauce.
- 35:49SPEAKER_04: And there's no and everything is so expensive at every Italian restaurant, and I don't understand it.
- 35:56SPEAKER_04: I don't get it.
- 35:57SPEAKER_04: I'm never one to be like, yes, let's go get Italian food on our date night.
- 36:02SPEAKER_04: First off, it's extremely messy.
- 36:04SPEAKER_04: Second off, it's just not worth the money.
- 36:07SPEAKER_04: Overrated.
- 36:08SPEAKER_05: I feel like we're playing truth or dare in high school right now because the thought in my head is like, Why the hell am I getting myself into this situation?
- 36:17SPEAKER_05: Because you're about to have everybody kill me too, because you're right.
- 36:20SPEAKER_06: Yes, thank you, Joe.
- 36:23SPEAKER_06: The the messed up thing is we all just named something in the Italian family, like mac and cheese.
- 36:30SPEAKER_05: Oh my god, dude.
- 36:31SPEAKER_05: You didn't, yeah, you did a type of pasta.
- 36:32SPEAKER_05: I didn't just did the entire genre.
- 36:35SPEAKER_06: Like these are Americanized versions of those, but we just totally did a cousin of whatever.
- 36:40SPEAKER_06: I'm with you, man.
- 36:41SPEAKER_06: Like, I think I think the thing about Italian is the ceiling is sky high, like it could be utterly delicious, it but not really the same.
- 36:51SPEAKER_06: No, I don't know, man.
- 36:52SPEAKER_06: I think like a an elite chicken parm is elite, sure.
- 36:56SPEAKER_06: But like, have you?
- 36:57SPEAKER_05: That's my thing.
- 36:57SPEAKER_05: I when I go to Italian restaurant, like we have a nice Italian restaurant right by my house, they've got like I like some of the wine that they have there, so like, and it's kind of fancy.
- 37:05SPEAKER_05: So, like when we have like a date night when we have a babysitter, that's where we'll go sometimes.
- 37:09SPEAKER_05: I order the same thing every time because I'm just like yeah, just give me chicken, like it's chicken and noodles.
- 37:14SPEAKER_05: You cannot go wrong.
- 37:15SPEAKER_05: But when I hear people that are like, Oh my god, Italian's my favorite food.
- 37:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's like why?
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: Why?
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: Why it's the bread, it's the bread, it's the bread, the bread's good.
- 37:27SPEAKER_04: The bread's the Italian food.
- 37:29SPEAKER_06: Brandon's tomato sauce, it's it's pizza, exactly.
- 37:34SPEAKER_04: Maybe we just think Italy is overrated, the entire nation of Italy plus the Americanized version of their food.
- 37:40SPEAKER_06: I can't wait to get like one-star reviews from some guy in Italy.
- 37:44SPEAKER_06: Like, like I was a loyal listener up until now.
- 37:52SPEAKER_04: Based out of Rome.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: No, uh that's good.
- 37:56SPEAKER_04: I'm glad we all kind of agreed with each other here because they would have pissed each other off, really.
- 38:01SPEAKER_06: Except honest, was mag and cheese the hottest one?
- 38:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that was the hottest take.
- 38:05SPEAKER_04: So I think it was.
- 38:06SPEAKER_04: Wow, that surprises me.
- 38:08SPEAKER_04: I like mac and cheese, Sumi.
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: What do you want?
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: It's delicious, it's always good, it's always good.
- 38:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, Joe, thank you for adding uh an overrated take now.
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: Uh, get ready to get roasted on Twitter because on Twitter.
- 38:26SPEAKER_05: I already I already feel like the the Jon Snow like gif, right?
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like yeah, yeah.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: Not everybody coming at you.
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we're ready.
- 38:34SPEAKER_04: Right here, that's fine.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: Everybody, uh sorry, we have opinions.
- 38:38SPEAKER_04: What do you want from us?
- 38:38SPEAKER_04: We have a podcast.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I thought this was American.
- 38:41SPEAKER_06: I thought um for a bonus, appropriately rated food.
- 38:46SPEAKER_06: Anything Mexican, absolutely, yeah, of course, yeah.
- 38:51SPEAKER_05: Mexican food if anything, it's underrated for sure.
- 38:55SPEAKER_06: Mexican like if you're not in a border state, you don't understand, like you don't get it.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: They don't get it.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: I it's a it's a tough scene living in Baton Rouge, and uh we have this one like high-profile Mexican food place that absolutely stinks.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, the margaritas are strong, uh, but they charge like$18.99 for an enchilada plate and it's all overrated, and everybody loves it here.
- 39:17SPEAKER_04: Everybody wants to go for their birthday.
- 39:18SPEAKER_04: It's like, no, please don't make me do this.
- 39:21SPEAKER_04: I don't want to have Mexican food in Louisiana, it's disgusting.
- 39:25SPEAKER_06: The strong marks is how you get away with it.
- 39:27SPEAKER_06: Like they people won't be able to taste it, which is a shame because Louisiana's got all this kick-ass food.
- 39:31SPEAKER_06: You want to go to this exact like awful.
- 39:34SPEAKER_04: I'm like, let's go to any seafood marks, and it would be so much better.
- 39:39SPEAKER_04: But oh yeah, it's always fun talking about overrated stuff.
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: I'm sure we're gonna continue to do it in future episodes.
- 39:46SPEAKER_04: Um, Joe, thank you for coming on uh with your Baylor takes.
- 39:50SPEAKER_04: We always love having you on to talk butt bull.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: Um, we always end off the talk at tech podcast with a song of the week for the people to go finish.
- 40:00SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, when they're finishing up their pizza and their uh mac and cheese, nothing with their side of you know with chicken cider mac and cheese pizza slice.
- 40:10SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 40:11SPEAKER_05: Whatever.
- 40:12SPEAKER_06: Sounds like it would kind of be gas.
- 40:13SPEAKER_04: Getting it what's not overrated, just throwing all three of those things together in a blender and drinking it.
- 40:23SPEAKER_04: No, they need something to listen to, some good music, some good jams.
- 40:28SPEAKER_04: You've given us some good songs of the week in the past.
- 40:30SPEAKER_04: What do you have for us today, Joe?
- 40:33SPEAKER_05: Uh, it's it's gotta be the but both special, like it's it's it's gotta be a song that that connects us more than it drives us apart.
- 40:42SPEAKER_05: So I gotta go with Waco and Texas Texan Pat Green with his song about none other than George's Bar.
- 40:54SPEAKER_08: I still go to George's and drink my beer.
- 40:57SPEAKER_08: I drink my beer and he's gone.
- 41:00SPEAKER_08: Make me go, but I'm still here.
- 41:05SPEAKER_06: Okay, classic and oldie, but a goodie.
- 41:09SPEAKER_06: You're not spreading this butt apart.
- 41:11SPEAKER_06: I tell you what, this butt is staying shut closed right there.
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: That's how close we are right now.
- 41:17SPEAKER_04: Very nice.
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech University's finest, and yes, he also is from Waco.
- 41:23SPEAKER_05: Uh great choice.
- 41:24SPEAKER_05: And he got his start singing in Georgia's bar.
- 41:26SPEAKER_05: He would just sit there and he'd play.
- 41:28SPEAKER_06: You come here for a history lesson as well.
- 41:30SPEAKER_06: That's what you that's what you come to the Talking Tech podcast for to hear about how we're pooping on food and uh music history lessons.
- 41:37SPEAKER_06: There we go.
- 41:38SPEAKER_04: Of course.
- 41:38SPEAKER_04: Tristan, what you got?
- 41:40SPEAKER_06: You know, I'm gonna be uh sticking in that Texas country zone.
- 41:43SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go spooky though, because it's spooky season.
- 41:46SPEAKER_05: Ooh, Halloween.
- 41:47SPEAKER_06: It's it's a fun one because you don't you don't hear a whole lot of spooky songs, but this one's got a spooky vibe to it.
- 41:53SPEAKER_06: It's called Baker Hotel by William Clark Green.
- 41:56SPEAKER_06: The title song on his newest album.
- 41:58SPEAKER_06: It's got those spooky Scooby-Doo vibes, and it's just a fun, a fun song for the for the for the moment.
- 42:18SPEAKER_04: Very nice, very nice.
- 42:20SPEAKER_04: I have not heard that one, but I did recently watch the live action Scooby-Doo from like 2002.
- 42:26SPEAKER_04: Great movie.
- 42:27SPEAKER_04: It's still holds up.
- 42:28SPEAKER_04: Oh, absolutely holds up.
- 42:30SPEAKER_04: Fantastic, fantastic piece of cinema right there.
- 42:34SPEAKER_04: Um my song of the week is nothing like either of y'all's.
- 42:40SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm throwing it back to the early 2000s.
- 42:44SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'm going with some outcast, I'm going with uh the way you move by outcast, uh, because it's a party, such a banger.
- 42:52SPEAKER_04: Outcast always works.
- 42:53SPEAKER_04: It's it works all time, yeah.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: All timer.
- 42:56SPEAKER_04: So yeah, that's my song of the week, the way you move outcast.
- 43:08SPEAKER_06: I thought they literally only had hey ya.
- 43:10SPEAKER_06: Like that was the only song they were capable of.
- 43:13SPEAKER_04: What?
- 43:13SPEAKER_04: No, no, uncultured.
- 43:14SPEAKER_04: Tristan is uncultured in the hip hop.
- 43:18SPEAKER_04: Much like he's uncultured in his food takes.
- 43:21SPEAKER_04: So uh yeah, no, uh you talk about hip-hop stuff with Tristan, it just goes way over his head.
- 43:27SPEAKER_06: Hey, I know I know rappers.
- 43:30SPEAKER_06: I know Mr.
- 43:31SPEAKER_06: 3000.

- 43:39SPEAKER_05: That's Mr.
- 43:40SPEAKER_05: Cast.
- 43:40SPEAKER_05: No, okay.
- 43:41SPEAKER_05: It's it's Andre 3000 and large man.
- 43:47SPEAKER_06: Famous guy and not famous guy.
- 43:50SPEAKER_04: They're both pretty famous.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: No.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: I don't need I don't we don't need hey slander, we don't need outcast slander right now.

- 47:34SPEAKER_05: My my child, my 18-month-old son, has a big tech logo in his room.
- 47:38SPEAKER_04: So that's what I'm talking about.
- 47:40SPEAKER_04: Very nice.
- 47:41SPEAKER_04: You're teaching him the right stuff early on.

- 48:10SPEAKER_06: Olive Garden.
- 48:11SPEAKER_06: Actually, it might be garden.
- 48:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it might be OG.

- 48:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it well, I don't know.
- 48:20SPEAKER_04: Olive Garden did it for two.
- 48:22SPEAKER_04: They're raising their prices.
- 48:24SPEAKER_04: Two for can I get a two for twenty everybody, even the OG.
- 48:28SPEAKER_04: Can I get a two for twenty with the chicken parm and the mac and cheese?
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: And then also a side of pizza.
- 48:36SPEAKER_06: I like how pizza was the side and not the mac and cheese.
- 48:39SPEAKER_06: No, you'd probably have to go to the kids' menu for the mac and cheese.
- 48:42SPEAKER_06: So that's to be a bargain.
- 48:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't think where's your child, sir?
- 48:45SPEAKER_06: I think all of them.
