Speaker 4: and the Queen Lisa is that the building as well,
• 1:02
Speaker 4: And we have a We actually have a caller that
• 1:07
Speaker 4: Lisa is going to introduce and I can't wait for
• 1:10
Speaker 4: this one for a personal reason.
• 1:12
Speaker 3: Oh of course, of course.
• 1:14
Speaker 5: So I'm going to start with his resume and it's
• 1:16
Speaker 5: going to take me a minute to go through all
• 1:18
Speaker 5: the accomplishments that our guest is doe. Our guest has
• 1:22
Speaker 5: done over the years. So we're going to start with
• 1:24
Speaker 5: this caller or this guest is a native of West Virginia.
• 1:28
Speaker 5: He started his career in golf at Barbersville High School
• 1:32
Speaker 5: and won three consecutive West Virginia State Tournament championships while
• 1:35
Speaker 5: it was there. He then proceeded to go on to
• 1:38
Speaker 5: the collegiate route at Marshall. He led the Herd in
• 1:42
Speaker 5: scoring averages in both nineteen eighty nine and ninety also
• 1:45
Speaker 5: secured the title of team captain and was first team
• 1:49
Speaker 5: All Southern Conference's senior year. After that, he moved on
• 1:52
Speaker 5: to the amateur scene, where he won the West Virginia
• 1:56
Speaker 5: Amateur which is happening this weekend at the Greenbrier by
• 1:58
Speaker 5: the Way, thirteen times thirteen times, and he set a
• 2:05
Speaker 5: new national record with ten in a row from ninety
• 2:08
Speaker 5: five to two thousand and four, and that in that
• 2:12
Speaker 5: time he also qualified for the US Amateur Championship nine times.
• 2:18
Speaker 5: He was two thousand and one West Virginia Amateur Athlete
• 2:20
Speaker 5: of the Year in West Virginia. He's also been the
• 2:23
Speaker 5: West Virginia Golf Associate Player of the year nine times.
• 2:26
Speaker 5: He's also been inducted into two hall of fames related
• 2:30
Speaker 5: to West Virginia sports. He's in the West Virginia Golf
• 2:33
Speaker 5: Hall of Fame, inducted in twenty thirteen, and then also
• 2:37
Speaker 5: the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in two thousand and five.
• 2:39
Speaker 5: So with all that, I have to catch my breath.
• 2:42
Speaker 5: Let me let me take a minute to casual breath.
• 2:45
Speaker 5: I know, right, with all those impressive stats and he's
• 2:48
Speaker 5: continuing to pursue greatness, I'd like to introduce Pat Carter.
• 2:51
  Speaker 3: Welcome, Pat, Well.
• 2:53
Speaker 6: Thank you so much. I'm humbled for that, hey man.
• 2:58
Speaker 4: But here's the crazy thing about so, like when you
• 3:01
Speaker 4: hear all of that, like what is that like? You know,
• 3:04
Speaker 4: like I know that I know that there's the humble
• 3:06
Speaker 4: piece of that. But like when you hear all of that,
• 3:09
Speaker 4: you have to really understand like how great and how
• 3:12
Speaker 4: special that really is.
• 3:15
Speaker 6: Yeah, the one thing it reminds me of it reminds
• 3:17
Speaker 6: me that I'm fifty seven years old.
• 3:20
Speaker 5: We're the same age, so I feel your pain.
• 3:22
  Speaker 3: Well I'm a quite a bit older.
• 3:24
Speaker 6: So yeah, it took a few years for you know,
• 3:29
Speaker 6: for all those accomplishments for sure.
• 3:31
Speaker 7: Yeah, what if you had to pick one right now,
• 3:35
Speaker 7: like what was your favorite win?
• 3:40
Speaker 3: And or and and or why.
• 3:43
  Speaker 6: Is it that?
• 3:45
  Speaker 7: Yeah?
• 3:45
Speaker 6: The you know, Carl, the I think yes, yes, yeah,
• 3:50
Speaker 6: the you know, as a matter of fact, it really
• 3:52
  Speaker 6: wasn't even a win. The I was playing in a
• 3:56
Speaker 6: US Amateur in nineteen ninety six and and I found
• 4:00
Speaker 6: out when I got to there and it was in
• 4:02
Speaker 6: Pumpkin It was at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland, Oregon, and
• 4:06
Speaker 6: I ended up being paired with Tiger Woods. Oh you know,
• 4:09
Speaker 6: so that's that's probably my most memorable, uh experience was
• 4:16
Speaker 6: I was able to play with him in the thirty
• 4:17
Speaker 6: six hold qualifying at the Purrement. Two days of golf
• 4:21
Speaker 6: with Tiger, and I actually was able to play his
• 4:24
Speaker 6: last with him and his last stroke play amateur golf round.
• 4:29
Speaker 6: And I have a science scorecard, you know, with all that,
• 4:32
Speaker 6: and that's that's pretty it was a pretty memorable time.
• 4:35
Speaker 6: And and uh, it was just one experience I'll never forget.
• 4:40
  Speaker 3: That's special.
• 4:42
Speaker 7: Yeah, Hey, Pat, this is Hollis now. Coming out of
• 4:46
Speaker 7: high school. You go to Marshall, and I believe that
• 4:50
Speaker 7: when you went to Marshall they were just starting the
• 4:53
Speaker 7: golf program and you were one of the first recruits.
• 4:56
Speaker 7: So how was that process going, you know, from high
• 4:59
Speaker 7: school going to an upstart collegiate golf program and having
• 5:03
Speaker 7: a success that you did.
• 5:05
Speaker 6: Well the actually Marshall was established, West Virginia would have
• 5:09
Speaker 6: been the team that had just re established their team.
• 5:13
Speaker 6: So Marshall. Marshall had recruited me heavily. I really didn't,
• 5:16
Speaker 6: you know INTENDA. I grew up ten minutes from the university,
• 5:19
Speaker 6: and uh, you know, I was I was always wanted
• 5:22
Speaker 6: to go there. All my he rose in golf, you know,
• 5:25
Speaker 6: had played there, you know Harold Payne, who was amazing,
• 5:28
Speaker 6: uh you know, amateur you know, uh all American at Marshall,
• 5:32
Speaker 6: and uh I just just wanted to always play there
• 5:35
Speaker 6: and follow in some people's footsteps and represent uh you know,
• 5:39
Speaker 6: be a herd, be a member of the herd, and
• 5:42
Speaker 6: uh it just was it was a dream come true
• 5:44
Speaker 6: when I signed my letter of intent and was able
• 5:46
Speaker 6: to play four years for the herd.
• 5:48
  Speaker 3: Nice was there?
• 5:50
Speaker 4: What What was the first thing that kind of caught
• 5:52
Speaker 4: your attention because you said that you wanted, you know,
• 5:55
Speaker 4: golf was your thing.
• 5:56
Speaker 7: What started that? Like what when did you see? You know,
• 6:00
Speaker 7: what did you see what made you like, Okay, I
• 6:03
Speaker 7: want to be grading golf. What where'd that start at?
• 6:07
Speaker 6: You know, that's a great question because I played all sports.
• 6:11
Speaker 6: You know, I fell in love with baseball first and
• 6:14
Speaker 6: then then I played you know, high school basketball and
• 6:17
Speaker 6: loved it. And I kind of realized that size and
• 6:22
Speaker 6: speed matters in most sports as uh as we all know,
• 6:26
  Speaker 6: I didn't have. I didn't have great size, I didn't
• 6:28
Speaker 6: have great speed. I was pretty pretty good. Uh, I
• 6:30
Speaker 6: had an amazing hand eye coordination and uh and before long,
• 6:35
Speaker 6: golf kind of provided an avenue for me to get
• 6:38
Speaker 6: a college scholarship. You know, my parents weren't wealthy, and
• 6:42
Speaker 6: you know, I was able to to secure an athletic
• 6:45
Speaker 6: scholarship at Marshall and was very happy and and uh,
• 6:49
Speaker 6: I'm endeared to the you know, to the university, you
• 6:51
Speaker 6: know obviously until now you yeah, well.
• 6:55
Speaker 5: You know, Pat, looking at at all of this, this
• 6:57
Speaker 5: resume that you have, and all of these awards and
• 7:01
Speaker 5: accomplishments you have in golf and qualifying for the US
• 7:03
Speaker 5: Amateur Championship nine times, which is amazing, and setting records,
• 7:08
Speaker 5: were there any points in your career that you could
• 7:11
Speaker 5: you could step on to the PGA, you know, go
• 7:14
Speaker 5: to the next level in golf.
• 7:18
Speaker 6: Well, you know, golf golf an eerie sport if you
• 7:22
Speaker 6: if so to speak, and I say that because you
• 7:26
Speaker 6: play against guys that that it, it becomes eye opening
• 7:30
Speaker 6: how good they are and the road you'd have to
• 7:32
Speaker 6: travel to to be competitive. And uh, you know, and
• 7:36
Speaker 6: then you know, when when I established my insurance career,
• 7:39
Speaker 6: you know, I was pretty happy. I was. I was
• 7:41
Speaker 6: afford the ability to play all over the country, all
• 7:44
Speaker 6: over the world actually, and uh, you know, I just
• 7:47
Speaker 6: really had no desire to turn professionally, knowing the grind
• 7:52
Speaker 6: that it would take and the probability of failure was
• 7:56
Speaker 6: much greater than the than the than the idea of success.
• 8:00
Speaker 6: And so so I worked on my insurance career. Uh,
• 8:03
Speaker 6: got married, had a couple of kids.
• 8:05
Speaker 3: Uh, and uh, life happened.
• 8:08
Speaker 6: As they say, as they say, the rest is history.
• 8:11
Speaker 3: Yes, you know, it's interesting.
• 8:14
Speaker 4: It's interesting because you know, I just I just well,
• 8:17
  Speaker 4: I shouldn't say I just started playing golf, but I've
• 8:20
Speaker 4: been playing golf for a while.
• 8:22
Speaker 3: And and the challenging thing to me with.
• 8:25
Speaker 4: Golf is before I can even compete against, say Hollis,
• 8:29
Speaker 4: I got to compete against yourself. The mindset of a
• 8:34
Speaker 4: golfer is to me, is different than any sport that
• 8:38
Speaker 4: I participated in. And I played football, I play basketball,
• 8:41
Speaker 4: ran track. But for whatever the reason, if you can,
• 8:46
Speaker 4: if you can kind of explain it, like what is
• 8:48
Speaker 4: this thing that wraps people up in golf, because it's
• 8:51
Speaker 4: almost impossible to be good just to people say they're good,
• 8:56
Speaker 4: but that's not They're not really good compared to say
• 8:59
Speaker 4: somebody like you. What is it that that that that
• 9:05
Speaker 4: is in that golf that.
• 9:07
Speaker 3: Draws people in but we just can't get there, you know.
• 9:11
  Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a that's a great question. And the ironic
• 9:15
Speaker 6: thing about this is I was talking to one of
• 9:16
Speaker 6: the baseball coaches from Marshall last night, uh and we
• 9:20
Speaker 6: were we were discussing that exact same topic about how
• 9:23
Speaker 6: you know, you got to forget about the last pitch,
• 9:25
Speaker 6: the last air, you know, whatever it is. The and
• 9:28
Speaker 6: golf is the same way the you know, And and
• 9:31
Speaker 6: the funny thing about golf is a three hundred shot,
• 9:34
Speaker 6: uh drive, a three hundred yard drive has the same
• 9:38
Speaker 6: value as as a one inch pot. Yeah, and now
• 9:46
Speaker 6: the three hundred yard drives are way more fun to watch.
• 9:51
Speaker 6: But that's the reason you see these guys on tour
• 9:54
Speaker 6: shoot so low because they don't care that they know
• 9:57
Speaker 6: that each shot is the same and the and that
• 10:00
Speaker 6: once you hit that shot, you move on to the
• 10:02
Speaker 6: next one and uh, and that's that's how they go
• 10:05
  Speaker 6: so low.
• 10:06
Speaker 7: And to build on that question, you won the West
• 10:09
Speaker 7: Virginia Amateur I believe ten times in a row, thirteen
• 10:13
Speaker 7: times total. So going into you know that tournament, and
• 10:18
Speaker 7: particularly when you had your streak, what is the mindset?
• 10:22
Speaker 7: Like you you know, it's hard enough to win one
• 10:24
Speaker 7: championship and then you win, you know, then they start
• 10:26
Speaker 7: to stack up. So like if you're going to that second,
• 10:29
Speaker 7: at third, at six one, what is the mindset going
• 10:32
Speaker 7: into that when you kind of have the when the
• 10:36
Speaker 7: bulls out on your back, so to speak.
• 10:38
  Speaker 6: Well, yeah, that's a that's a that's a great question.
• 10:41
Speaker 6: You know that I felt like, you know, I won
• 10:43
Speaker 6: my first WESTERNI I am in nineteen eighty nine and
• 10:47
Speaker 6: I kind of fell into it. Yeah, I wasn't in
• 10:49
Speaker 6: the last group and it just said then they announced, Hey,
• 10:52
Speaker 6: the winner's Pat Carter, and you know one by one
• 10:54
Speaker 6: shot was lucky and it took me a long time.
• 10:56
Speaker 6: And I always always felt that the second Amateur that
• 10:59
Speaker 6: i'll one, which was in nineteen ninety five, was the
• 11:03
Speaker 6: hardest one that I had ever won. Just overcoming you know,
• 11:06
Speaker 6: my expectations and being able to play well, you know,
• 11:12
Speaker 6: under the gun meant a lot, and that really took
• 11:15
Speaker 6: my game to another level. And then once I once
• 11:18
Speaker 6: I started stack and wins, I really was about the
• 11:21
Speaker 6: only player in the state that played all over the
• 11:24
Speaker 6: country all the time. And my experience, you know, at
• 11:28
Speaker 6: being a seventy two whole tournament, I knew that a
• 11:31
Speaker 6: couple holes early on in the tournament didn't really matter
• 11:35
Speaker 6: who was going to win. And you know, that's the
• 11:38
Speaker 6: one thing about it was that I felt like, you know,
• 11:42
Speaker 6: I was the most experienced player every year, and that
• 11:46
Speaker 6: was a big advantage.
• 11:48
Speaker 5: So obviously, Pat, you've you've told us that you've been
• 11:52
Speaker 5: able to travel and visit these different courses and play
• 11:55
  Speaker 5: these different courses.
• 11:56
Speaker 3: Do you have a particular course.
• 11:57
Speaker 5: That's one of your favorites that you like to play.
• 12:02
Speaker 6: I would have to think, you know, Nicholas always said
• 12:06
Speaker 6: that if he had one round of golf to play
• 12:08
Speaker 6: in his life left, it would be at Pebble Beach,
• 12:10
Speaker 6: and and I think that, you know, I played the
• 12:13
Speaker 6: nineteen ninety nine US Amateur at Pebble Beach and under
• 12:18
Speaker 6: us M conditions, USGA conditions. I mean, it was one
• 12:21
Speaker 6: of the toughest courses, but one of the most fair
• 12:23
Speaker 6: courses I've ever played. So if I had to choose
• 12:27
Speaker 6: one over everything, and I played Augusta Pine Valley that
• 12:30
Speaker 6: you know, the Old Course at Saint Andrews, the list
• 12:33
Speaker 6: goes on and on, I still think I would choose
• 12:35
Speaker 6: Pebble Beach to be my last round of golf.
• 12:38
Speaker 5: What about in West Virginia? Do you have a favorite
• 12:41
  Speaker 5: course here?
• 12:42
Speaker 6: Well, I have special love for all the green brick courses,
• 12:45
Speaker 6: you know, obviously, Yeah, you know, I mean they have
• 12:47
Speaker 6: a special place in my heart. So, you know, the
• 12:53
Speaker 6: Old the Old White before it was renovated was you know,
• 12:57
Speaker 6: I had tremendous success there. I loved that golf course.
• 13:00
Speaker 6: I love them. I love the Old White. Now it's
• 13:03
Speaker 6: I think it's extremely tough, it's very fair. But you
• 13:08
Speaker 6: know it's hard for me to pen down one particular
• 13:10
Speaker 6: course in the state because I love playing everywhere.
• 13:13
Speaker 4: Sure, my wife is from Greenbrough County, and her and
• 13:18
Speaker 4: most all of her family has worked at the Greenbrier.
• 13:21
Speaker 4: So I've actually got a chance to play all of
• 13:24
Speaker 4: those courses. And trust me when I tell you none
• 13:29
Speaker 4: of them were good.
• 13:30
Speaker 3: And and again I think.
• 13:32
Speaker 7: None of them were good. And you weren't good, Yeah, yeah,
• 13:38
  Speaker 7: I was. I just I couldn't compete at that at
• 13:41
  Speaker 7: that level.
• 13:42
Speaker 4: And and you know, and I think one of the
• 13:44
Speaker 4: interesting components in my head was I knew that the
• 13:49
  Speaker 4: course was better.
• 13:50
Speaker 3: Than me, you know.
• 13:51
  Speaker 7: And and and that's yeah, that's that's that's hurting.
• 13:55
  Speaker 3: I mean, that's a strange thought I've ever Yeah, that's yeah.
• 13:58
Speaker 7: And and golf and and and and bet you could
• 14:01
Speaker 7: agree with me or or comment on this. Golf will
• 14:06
Speaker 7: tell you. It will it will align you to where
• 14:09
  Speaker 7: you are.
• 14:09
Speaker 4: Like, it's not gonna lie, Like you can't lie to
• 14:12
Speaker 4: yourself in golf, Like it's it's it's gonna tell you.
• 14:18
Speaker 3: It's gonna tell you the tree it's gonna show in
• 14:21
Speaker 3: every shot, Am I right?
• 14:22
  Speaker 7: That? That?
• 14:23
Speaker 6: Well, that's that's the one thing you know, when you're
• 14:25
Speaker 6: when you're defending a wide receiver out there and you're
• 14:27
Speaker 6: by yourself, kind of on an island, right, Well, the golf,
• 14:32
Speaker 6: you're on an island. Every single shot there's nowhere to hie.
• 14:35
Speaker 6: So you know, it's it's you against you against you,
• 14:39
Speaker 6: and uh, you know, and that's what you have to overcome.
• 14:42
Speaker 6: And and you know, one of my one of my
• 14:44
Speaker 6: coaches long ago said gave me some of the best
• 14:47
Speaker 6: advice ever, and it was it was aim small and
• 14:50
Speaker 6: miss small. You know, pick a target out there and
• 14:54
Speaker 6: if you if you if you don't hit at it,
• 14:56
Speaker 6: then that's where you're hitting. You're not looking at that
• 14:59
Speaker 6: all the obstacles that are on the side. You're you're
• 15:03
Speaker 6: kind of uh, you know, clearing the mechanism or what
• 15:07
Speaker 6: however you want to say. But you're focusing on where
• 15:09
Speaker 6: you want to hit it and not where you don't
• 15:11
Speaker 6: want to hit it.
• 15:12
Speaker 7: Yeah, that's that's I think that could be applicable for
• 15:14
Speaker 7: a lot of different sports. I like that mindset. Uh,
• 15:18
Speaker 7: and just kind of along those lines, like how do
• 15:20
Speaker 7: we because on this show we often talk about sort
• 15:23
Speaker 7: of ancillary sports. We just don't focus obviously on football
• 15:26
Speaker 7: and basketball, and you know, we believe in, you know,
• 15:29
Speaker 7: like sort of building the totality of the athlete. And
• 15:32
Speaker 7: when I think about sports like golf, like even tennis,
• 15:36
Speaker 7: track wrestling, those sort of individual sports, even bodybuilding to
• 15:40
Speaker 7: a degree where it's sort of mind over matter, How
• 15:43
Speaker 7: do we get more youth involved in in golf?
• 15:47
Speaker 6: Well that yeah, that's the first t foundation has been
• 15:51
Speaker 6: tremendous and getting especially inner city youth you know, playing golf.
• 15:56
Speaker 6: Now you see you see smaller courses being built. What
• 15:58
Speaker 6: I mean by smaller you see twelve whole courses being
• 16:01
Speaker 6: built to speed up play. But you know, you know,
• 16:04
Speaker 6: which I think is a wonderful idea, you know, because
• 16:08
Speaker 6: because ultimately you want people out there having fun and
• 16:11
Speaker 6: they you know, not maybe having goals of being on
• 16:13
Speaker 6: the PGA Tour, but spending a couple of hours with
• 16:16
Speaker 6: their friends having fun, sin balls go in the air
• 16:18
Speaker 6: and h and then getting a few laughs and and
• 16:22
Speaker 6: and jokes and whatever it may be, you know, for
• 16:25
Speaker 6: a couple of hours with your buddies, and and you know,
• 16:28
Speaker 6: that's to me what it's all about these days, and
• 16:30
Speaker 6: that you know, I just think that that the U. S.
• 16:33
Speaker 6: G A has spent a tremendous amount of money on
• 16:36
Speaker 6: trying to get more people involved and and all the
• 16:39
Speaker 6: Golf Associations is but you know the w g A
• 16:42
Speaker 6: has followed suit and trying to take that route as well.
• 16:46
Speaker 3: And you said, that's the first t foundation. Yeah, I
• 16:49
Speaker 3: got it. Thank you. That's perfect. Okay, So, Pat, I
• 16:53
Speaker 3: have one question for you.
• 16:54
Speaker 5: You you've experienced so much success in golf, and and
• 16:57
Speaker 5: obviously you know you're you're continuing to sperience success. Is
• 17:01
Speaker 5: there a particular or a favorite philosophy or a style
• 17:04
Speaker 5: of golf play that you endear with to like that
• 17:08
Speaker 5: that that kind of guides you to to you know,
• 17:11
Speaker 5: all these victories in.
• 17:12
Speaker 6: Golf, well, the uh, playing without the big mistake was
• 17:19
Speaker 6: always my forte yes, you know I really I really
• 17:22
Speaker 6: never got in trouble, you know, and I made bogies.
• 17:26
Speaker 6: I mean everybody makes bogies. But but staying away from
• 17:29
Speaker 6: the you know, those big crooked numbers are the is
• 17:33
Speaker 6: the key and are the keys to success in a
• 17:36
Speaker 6: long tournament. You know, I a seventy two holes on
• 17:39
Speaker 6: the tour, you know, seventy two holes in our West
• 17:42
Speaker 6: Virginia state am. But you know so, so I always
• 17:45
Speaker 6: just tried to limit my mistakes and uh, and then
• 17:49
Speaker 6: not worry so much about the results as as the
• 17:53
Speaker 6: process as so much the process it took to get
• 17:55
Speaker 6: the results. And and if if you do that, then
• 17:59
Speaker 6: typically your score ends up being a little bit lower
• 18:01
Speaker 6: than than if you if you do have those worrisome ideas.
• 18:06
Speaker 3: What's what was the best part of your game? Was
• 18:10
  Speaker 3: it putting?
• 18:10
Speaker 4: Was it off the te what you know, your irons,
• 18:14
Speaker 4: your approach, what what what?
• 18:17
Speaker 3: What it was your best?
• 18:18
Speaker 4: And then and then what advice would you give someone
• 18:21
Speaker 4: who's starting to play golf of where they should focus
• 18:25
Speaker 4: most on their skill set?
• 18:27
  Speaker 3: First?
• 18:29
Speaker 6: Yeah, everybody, I mean I would think eight, eight or
• 18:33
Speaker 6: nine out of ten players would say my short game,
• 18:36
Speaker 6: you know, around the greens, when came from one hundred
• 18:38
Speaker 6: yards in was was my strength. But however, you know,
• 18:42
Speaker 6: I was good at all what I considered, and you know,
• 18:46
Speaker 6: I worked hard on my game, but I was good
• 18:49
Speaker 6: at all aspects of the sport. But I didn't feel
• 18:52
Speaker 6: like I was great at any aspect of the sport.
• 18:55
Speaker 6: But you know, so so therefore I didn't have a
• 18:58
Speaker 6: lot of weaknesses. The I didn't hit it, you know,
• 19:01
Speaker 6: super far as uh as some of them did. But
• 19:04
Speaker 6: I hit it far enough. But you know, I didn't
• 19:07
Speaker 6: you know, my iron game was you know, elite for
• 19:10
Speaker 6: this state, but not not for the national level. Uh
• 19:14
Speaker 6: but but still it wasn't the best in the state.
• 19:17
Speaker 6: But you know so I just thought my whole all
• 19:20
Speaker 6: around game when you put it together, was the reason
• 19:24
Speaker 6: was it was the reason that I I did win.
• 19:27
Speaker 6: You know what I won?
• 19:29
Speaker 4: Well, you know, one of the one of one of
• 19:32
Speaker 4: my issues is like when when if I could get
• 19:35
  Speaker 4: off the t.
• 19:36
  Speaker 3: Okay, that's it.
• 19:37
Speaker 7: I think coach trying to get some free lessons and
• 19:40
  Speaker 7: you send us.
• 19:44
Speaker 3: I just tried to understand. I understand the mindset.
• 19:48
  Speaker 6: You know.
• 19:48
Speaker 3: I was never really very good.
• 19:50
Speaker 4: Off the t irons. I was, I was pretty decent.
• 19:54
Speaker 4: I used to hit a two iron really well. So
• 19:56
Speaker 4: I quit hitting my driver and started using my two iron.
• 19:59
Speaker 4: And and I'm saying this only because, like I think
• 20:03
Speaker 4: most people who don't have the true knowledge of golf,
• 20:07
Speaker 4: we make these kind of changes in our mind thinking
• 20:11
Speaker 4: that that's going to actually make our game better.
• 20:13
Speaker 3: But that's really not the case. Am I right on that?
• 20:16
Speaker 6: Yeah? Really, golf has has changed or morphed over the
• 20:22
Speaker 6: last ten to fifteen years, especially with the equipment the
• 20:27
Speaker 6: golf ball. Now it's all about links, if you don't
• 20:33
Speaker 6: have certain speeds at certain ages in your life, you're
• 20:37
Speaker 6: never going to get to where you need to be
• 20:38
Speaker 6: to be on the PGA tour. So now now everybody
• 20:43
Speaker 6: you know is swinging it at one hundred and eighteen
• 20:46
Speaker 6: to one hundred and twenty five miles an hour, clubhead
• 20:48
Speaker 6: speed ball speeds of one hundred and eighty to one
• 20:51
Speaker 6: hundred and ninety. You know, where I grew up with
• 20:54
Speaker 6: equipment that your bass speeds were one hundred and fifty, so,
• 20:58
Speaker 6: you know, and the courses were you know, we're much shorter,
• 21:02
Speaker 6: but they still played the link that they need to play.
• 21:05
  Speaker 7: Now.
• 21:06
  Speaker 6: It's it's a game of it's a game of youth.
• 21:09
Speaker 6: It's a game of kids that come from uh, you know,
• 21:14
Speaker 6: golf academies that they really don't even go to high
• 21:16
Speaker 6: school mainly, and uh and that's all they focus on
• 21:20
Speaker 6: and and they just learn and they're so good at
• 21:23
Speaker 6: such a young age that it's just amazing, you know,
• 21:27
Speaker 6: watching the you know, where the where the golf has
• 21:30
Speaker 6: has gone. You know, over over the last couple of decades.
• 21:34
Speaker 3: Do you think that.
• 21:36
Speaker 4: Tiger's impact has has because I know for a fact,
• 21:40
Speaker 4: Tiger's impact has has impacted as a lot of black
• 21:44
Speaker 4: folks that will get out there now and play. His
• 21:48
Speaker 4: impact in golf period to all people, male and female,
• 21:54
Speaker 4: How big? How big really is that when you when
• 21:57
Speaker 4: you look from your vision, how big is that?
• 22:00
Speaker 3: Like? What did he really do?
• 22:02
Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, he took golf to the levels that
• 22:05
Speaker 6: nobody ever dreamed of. The you know, that's the worldwide.
• 22:10
Speaker 6: It wasn't It wasn't just inner city black youth, right,
• 22:13
Speaker 6: and you know a good story about about that, And
• 22:16
Speaker 6: it wasn't Tiger per se. I got to meet Michael
• 22:20
Speaker 6: Jordan in the early nineties playing in a tournament and
• 22:24
Speaker 6: he had the same effect on inner city black youths
• 22:28
Speaker 6: as what Tiger did on golf around the world. It
• 22:31
Speaker 6: was amazing to see people just wanting to get a
• 22:34
Speaker 6: glimpse of Mike of Jordan, you know, in this golf
• 22:38
Speaker 6: turn which was the Western Amateur which I was playing in,
• 22:40
Speaker 6: and we repaired, you know, one group from each other,
• 22:43
Speaker 6: and I got so I got to talk to him
• 22:44
Speaker 6: on the t's, got to meet him in the locker room,
• 22:46
Speaker 6: and it was it was unbelievable. The thousands and thousands
• 22:51
Speaker 6: of kids age eight to twelve or thirteen that just
• 22:54
Speaker 6: were running around just trying to see Jordan on a
• 22:57
Speaker 6: golf course, not on a basketball Yeah. Yeah, and and Tiger,
• 23:01
Speaker 6: you know, you know which it was. Golf was exponentially
• 23:06
Speaker 6: more so, uh more impactful than than what what Jordan
• 23:10
Speaker 6: was in that aspect. It's just amazing. It's He's the
• 23:14
Speaker 6: most important, uh golfer that's been in my life that
• 23:18
Speaker 6: I've seen. And I'm sure every almost everybody else would
• 23:21
Speaker 6: say that the tour can be the most thankful because
• 23:24
Speaker 6: of the amount of money that they play for and
• 23:26
Speaker 6: it's solely because of Tiger.
• 23:27
  Speaker 3: Yeah for sure.
• 23:29
Speaker 5: Hey, so we're gonna we're gonna wrap it up here
• 23:31
Speaker 5: in a minute with you packcause we know you have to.
• 23:33
Speaker 3: We have things to do.
• 23:33
Speaker 5: You've you've got to play in the West Virginia Amateur
• 23:36
Speaker 5: this weekend at the Greenbrier. You've qualified again, correct, Yeah.
• 23:41
Speaker 6: Fortunately, Uh with being a being a previous champion that
• 23:45
Speaker 6: you can play. You know, you have a lifetime exemption.
• 23:48
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, So yeah.
• 23:50
Speaker 6: My my game's not great right now. Battle I've been
• 23:53
Speaker 6: battling a little bad back, but but it seems to
• 23:56
Speaker 6: be progressing a little bit, so I'm hoping to play
• 23:58
Speaker 6: all four rounds ever missed the cut. Yeah, you know,
• 24:01
Speaker 6: there in my career, so I hope I keep that
• 24:04
  Speaker 6: streak going.
• 24:04
Speaker 3: Oh at least, Well, that was something.
• 24:07
Speaker 5: I wanted to touch on. You mentioned you were fifty seven.
• 24:10
Speaker 5: How is the field look? I mean, does it seem
• 24:13
Speaker 5: like every year there's a little bit of a younger
• 24:16
Speaker 5: push coming in and lesser of the of the guys
• 24:19
Speaker 5: that are, you know, in our age group.
• 24:22
Speaker 6: Yeah, I would think that you're going to see people
• 24:28
Speaker 6: competing for the championship this year, and you know, I'm
• 24:31
Speaker 6: not considering myself one of them. I would say that
• 24:34
Speaker 6: the age group will be yeah, thirty and under everybody. Okay,
• 24:40
Speaker 6: you know, Christian brand should be the favorite. I mean
• 24:42
Speaker 6: he's he's our best golfer nurse in the state. But
• 24:47
Speaker 6: youth wise, you'll see sixteen to sixteen year old, seventeen
• 24:50
Speaker 6: year old and they are all all good players. And
• 24:55
Speaker 6: you'll see that's the most amazing thing about the amateur
• 24:58
Speaker 6: is you find one or two so young and so
• 25:01
Speaker 6: good and we just kind of just dreamed about being
• 25:04
  Speaker 6: that young again.
• 25:04
Speaker 5: Yes, well, we wish you the best of block good looking.
• 25:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, good luck man.
• 25:09
Speaker 4: We we we're going to get out of here, and

• 26:47
Speaker 2: Now back to the conversation.
• 26:51
Speaker 4: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are back and uh.
• 26:55
Speaker 3: And Hollis, I and Lisa.
• 26:58
Speaker 7: Normally you're y'all are good co host right, but today.
• 27:04
Speaker 3: I think y'all are trying to look slided. I was
• 27:08
Speaker 3: trying to get some tips. You wasn't trying doing you
• 27:14
Speaker 3: was getting some tips. I was trying. Hollis, have you
• 27:17
Speaker 3: have you ever played golf? Yeah? I played, Yeah, you know,
• 27:20
Speaker 3: so I can play sensibly.
• 27:24
Speaker 4: Is it the hardest sport that you think you've ever
• 27:27
  Speaker 4: been associated with?
• 27:29
Speaker 7: Well, I played a lot of tennis outside of football, basketball, baseball.
• 27:33
Speaker 7: I would say probably baseball's is probably the hardest sport
• 27:37
Speaker 7: that I play. But I think the thing with golf
• 27:39
Speaker 7: is just you know, you can tell you have to
• 27:43
Speaker 7: spend hours and hours and hours, days and days. You
• 27:46
Speaker 7: have to log that ten thousand hours because you can
• 27:49
Speaker 7: literally hit a ball. You hit that drive, and you
• 27:50
Speaker 7: hit a chip shot, putt it, you get it perfect,
• 27:53
Speaker 7: and it goes in, does what you want, and then
• 27:55
Speaker 7: the next twenty times you hit it, it does you
• 27:58
Speaker 7: left right. You're not doing anything correct. So it's one
• 28:00
Speaker 7: of those things. And to like Pat said, it's just
• 28:04
Speaker 7: you verse you, It really is. And I think that,
• 28:09
Speaker 7: you know, growing up, because we played you know, football, basketball, baseball,
• 28:13
Speaker 7: we played the sports where it's kind of a versus
• 28:15
Speaker 7: you somebody else, we didn't necessarily think about how difficult
• 28:20
Speaker 7: those sort of single sports are where you really are
• 28:23
Speaker 7: in your own head, and if you haven't kind of
• 28:25
Speaker 7: a you know, you're in your head that day, you're
• 28:28
Speaker 7: just not gonna you're in your head.
• 28:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, I tried. I tried. Can I say that? Can
• 28:35
  Speaker 3: I try?
• 28:36
Speaker 5: Actually it started in my backyard years many moons ago,
• 28:40
Speaker 5: and a friend of mine had played golf at you see,
• 28:43
Speaker 5: I was young, obviously, and he was like, you gotta
• 28:45
Speaker 5: you know. He gave me a driver, He's like and
• 28:47
Speaker 5: I hit the ball and I was like, wow, I
• 28:48
Speaker 5: did great, and he said, okay, you know, so let's
• 28:51
Speaker 5: take this to coon skin. I lasted three holes and
• 28:54
Speaker 5: I threw the club and I was like, this is
• 28:56
Speaker 5: not for me. And I rode around in the car
• 28:58
Speaker 5: and that was it. That was my big golf experience.
• 29:01
Speaker 5: Like I just have the mindset, the everything about it.
• 29:04
Speaker 3: It's really hard, it.
• 29:06
Speaker 4: Really is, man, and I've been trying to play it
• 29:09
Speaker 4: for for a long time.
• 29:10
  Speaker 3: I haven't played.
• 29:11
Speaker 4: I probably played like three or four times in the
• 29:13
Speaker 4: last the last few years for a whole host of
• 29:16
Speaker 4: different reasons. But my plan is to at some point
• 29:21
Speaker 4: I'm going to get what I'm going to consider pretty
• 29:24
Speaker 4: good to where I'm sumfortable.
• 29:26
  Speaker 3: That's see.
• 29:27
Speaker 5: You guys both are going to be our next golf pressure.
• 29:30
Speaker 3: The amateur definitely going to play. Yeah. My plan is,
• 29:33
Speaker 3: My plan is I'll.
• 29:34
Speaker 4: Cheer you on, you know, just because like it's it's
• 29:37
Speaker 4: difficult not to it's difficult to yourself not to be
• 29:42
  Speaker 4: good at it.
• 29:42
Speaker 7: And I think it's one of those sports I would
• 29:45
Speaker 7: really and that's the reason I asked you the question
• 29:47
Speaker 7: about just kids in general play. I would really love
• 29:49
Speaker 7: to see more kids play a sport like that so
• 29:52
Speaker 7: they just understand how to deal with the middle side
• 29:55
Speaker 7: of whatever they're going through and how to auto correct
• 29:58
Speaker 7: yourself in like kind of getting your own mind and
• 30:01
Speaker 7: then getting out and just playing.
• 30:03
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that would be cool too, but I
• 30:05
Speaker 4: think they would have to start it at a younger age.
• 30:08
Speaker 7: But well, I don't necessarily mean, like he said, not
• 30:11
Speaker 7: necessarily that you're going to go be up golf, bro,
• 30:14
Speaker 7: but just to play, even like if you just pick
• 30:15
Speaker 7: it up in high school and just to kind of
• 30:17
  Speaker 7: get out there.
• 30:18
  Speaker 3: It's a great hobby.
• 30:19
Speaker 5: It's a great pastime and something when you get older
• 30:21
Speaker 5: and you can't really be like the jogger, the you know,
• 30:24
Speaker 5: doing the things with you know, it's.
• 30:26
Speaker 3: Something you can do. It's a great mental testest.
• 30:28
Speaker 4: But see, like two, it's not like it's starts. You
• 30:33
Speaker 4: can start it like a hobby or something that you
• 30:36
Speaker 4: just like to do. But there's a but there's something
• 30:39
Speaker 4: about golf that works you into there's obsession over it,
• 30:46
Speaker 4: like like you're not okay just being yeah, like you
• 30:50
Speaker 4: you're just not comfortable with being okay, you know you.
• 30:56
Speaker 3: I got to be better than everybody who I'm.
• 30:58
Speaker 4: Playing with, and and and I don't know if there's
• 31:02
Speaker 4: and I guess that's true for maybe all sports, but
• 31:05
Speaker 4: there's something about golf that makes me feel like you
• 31:08
Speaker 4: have to you have to be good, like you know,
• 31:13
Speaker 4: I've got a couple of golf tournaments coming up, and
• 31:15
  Speaker 4: I haven't played in a while, so I'm seeing myself
• 31:17
  Speaker 4: like hitting.
• 31:18
Speaker 3: The ball way left, way right, dribbling it off the
• 31:20
Speaker 3: tea and you need to go to the driving range
• 31:24
Speaker 3: that I'm not sure that's gonna fix it anyway.
• 31:29
Speaker 4: But now, interesting, interesting conversation. We're gonna switch gears drastically here, Yes,
• 31:39
Speaker 4: Kaitlin Carr Clark supposedly, And I guess I don't know
• 31:45
Speaker 4: if the suit's going through or but there's been conversation,
• 31:50
Speaker 4: so it's not confirmed, but there's conversation about that with
• 31:55
Speaker 4: her and and Reese, Angel and Angel Reese and I
• 32:01
Speaker 4: and I know this has a has a racial tone
• 32:06
Speaker 4: to it, but it's a funny one to me actually,
• 32:09
Speaker 4: because to me, and I'll take anybody's criticism here when
• 32:16
Speaker 4: I say this, to me, Caitlin Clark is the reason
• 32:19
  Speaker 4: why I watch the WBA w NBA, and I don't
• 32:23
Speaker 4: really watch the NBA. If I get a chance to
• 32:27
Speaker 4: watch her, I'm watching her because because of the notoriety. Now,
• 32:32
Speaker 4: I don't necessarily think that the notoriety that she's getting
• 32:36
Speaker 4: or what she's got, what she got is unfair because
• 32:41
Speaker 4: people are saying, oh, all the attention is on her
• 32:44
Speaker 4: just because she's white and she's good.
• 32:46
Speaker 3: I don't really think that that's the case.
• 32:49
Speaker 7: I think, you know, I go back to Bird and Magic, right,
• 32:53
Speaker 7: there wasn't There wasn't a racial piece to that. There
• 32:55
Speaker 7: was two great players trying to figure out who's the
• 32:58
Speaker 7: best player in the NBA. And see that's where and
• 33:01
  Speaker 7: that's where I'm at because I look at this, I
• 33:05
Speaker 7: just and this is gonna be a criticism of the WNBA.
• 33:08
Speaker 7: Whoever is the marketing department, it's just awful. They're awful.
• 33:14
Speaker 7: This was the moment in which the w NBA could
• 33:17
Speaker 7: take two young superstars. This was their Magic and Bird moment, right,
• 33:21
Speaker 7: you know why, and even even going back to when
• 33:24
Speaker 7: they were drafted, why didn't one go to the Eastern
• 33:26
Speaker 7: Conference and one go to the Western Conference? And you
• 33:29
Speaker 7: could literally replicate it what it took the NBA to
• 33:33
Speaker 7: get popular because remember seventies, sixties fifty, NBA was not
• 33:37
Speaker 7: the sport, right right, Their championships were on delay, tape delay.
• 33:41
Speaker 7: They weren't even lying.
• 33:42
  Speaker 5: And I'll go, I'll go a step further. I'll go
• 33:44
Speaker 5: to step further. The w NBA is capitalizing on all
• 33:48
Speaker 5: this notoriety and all this rivalry between Clark and Reese.
• 33:52
Speaker 3: But it's not on the on the court. It could
• 33:54
  Speaker 3: be on the.
• 33:54
Speaker 5: Court, I agree there, but they're capitalizing on all of
• 33:58
Speaker 5: the talk of the you know w NBA analysts saying,
• 34:02
Speaker 5: you know, one's a victim and ones being bullied, and
• 34:05
  Speaker 5: and and.
• 34:06
  Speaker 3: They're promoting that.
• 34:07
Speaker 5: And ESPN has been doing the same on some of
• 34:09
Speaker 5: their w NBA shows, and and and go a step
• 34:12
Speaker 5: further than that. I think they've scheduled these two teams,
• 34:15
Speaker 5: the Sky and who's the other team, Fever? Sky and
• 34:19
Speaker 5: Fever are going to play. You know normally, I don't
• 34:21
Speaker 5: know how many games they normally play like, you know,
• 34:23
Speaker 5: competition the teams in the in the league. But they're
• 34:26
Speaker 5: playing five times this year and this is the first.
• 34:28
Speaker 3: Game they're in the same conference, so they do always
• 34:31
Speaker 3: play five Okay, okay.
• 34:33
Speaker 7: But I'm sorry, go ahead, no, you go ahead. No,
• 34:36
Speaker 7: I'm just saying to your point, and you're exactly right,
• 34:38
Speaker 7: And it's why not make the issue on the court, right,
• 34:44
Speaker 7: because they're trying to make all these ancillary issues that
• 34:46
Speaker 7: are eventually going to fade right and are are kind
• 34:49
Speaker 7: of silly. But why not make the issue on the court,
• 34:52
Speaker 7: because what you can do. You can make it about
• 34:54
Speaker 7: the variants of style, Andeur Reese plays one way, Caitlin
• 34:57
Speaker 7: Clark plays another one. Right, you can make it about they're.
• 35:00
Speaker 3: The best two players, what they do at.
• 35:04
Speaker 7: Their age and what they're at And then even on
• 35:06
Speaker 7: top of just setting them to a side, you have
• 35:08
Speaker 7: a sup a megastar, Agia Wilson.
• 35:13
Speaker 3: Who gets lost in this.
• 35:15
  Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean she's she's she's literally her shoes sold
• 35:19
Speaker 7: out like in like five minutes after his release. So
• 35:22
Speaker 7: it's like just whoever does the marketing for the w BA.
• 35:26
Speaker 7: It's just they consistently dropped the ball.
• 35:28
Speaker 4: I'm thinking it's because I truly think that they think
• 35:32
Speaker 4: that this piece of it is.
• 35:36
Speaker 3: Is golden by itself. You know, they don't need to
• 35:42
  Speaker 3: touch it.
• 35:43
Speaker 4: They can just let it be, just let it progress,
• 35:48
Speaker 4: and and they're gonna get more viewers.
• 35:49
Speaker 3: They're gonna get more. Do you But do you feel
• 35:52
Speaker 3: like it turns people off? It? Kind of? Yeah?
• 35:55
Speaker 5: For me, it's a total and complete turn off. Like,
• 35:58
  Speaker 5: I don't want it. I don't want I want to
• 36:00
Speaker 5: see the sport. I want to see the athletes. I
• 36:02
Speaker 5: want to see them, like you said, on the court, competing,
• 36:05
Speaker 5: showing their talents and doing what they do best.
• 36:08
Speaker 3: And this this side, you know.
• 36:10
Speaker 5: This little side circus they got going on about, you know,
• 36:13
  Speaker 5: the racism, and.
• 36:15
  Speaker 3: I just don't feel like that's really it. I don't
• 36:17
  Speaker 3: feel like it.
• 36:17
Speaker 5: I feel like it's two women athletes that are very
• 36:20
Speaker 5: competitive and they don't like each other.
• 36:22
Speaker 3: I don't care what color they are, they just don't
• 36:24
Speaker 3: like it. That's fun and they make it fun. They
• 36:29
Speaker 3: got to compete against others, want to get you want
• 36:32
Speaker 3: to do that on the court.
• 36:34
Speaker 7: And you know, and again I understand racial politics and
• 36:37
Speaker 7: you know, all things that we do, sports politics, education, whatever.
• 36:41
Speaker 7: But at some point it's like, dang, I just like we,
• 36:43
Speaker 7: like you said, I want to see the athletes. I
• 36:45
Speaker 7: want to see the game. I want to see these
• 36:48
Speaker 7: two young superstars lift that incount age. Wilson is to
• 36:53
Speaker 7: lift that league to new heights. And I think that's
• 36:56
Speaker 7: the opportunity and that gets lost in all.
• 36:58
Speaker 4: The And I'll say this to me when I when
• 37:04
Speaker 4: I try to put those two athletes side by side,
• 37:09
Speaker 4: and to your very very valid point, early on they
• 37:12
Speaker 4: play different positions, you know, but when you look, when
• 37:16
Speaker 4: you look at it, you know, Caitlyn is she's scoring more,
• 37:22
Speaker 4: shooting more, assists more. She's she's she's more of what
• 37:28
  Speaker 4: She's a Steph Curry.
• 37:29
  Speaker 7: She's a modern She's a modern basketball player. Where Reese
• 37:33
Speaker 7: is the throw, based is the throw.
• 37:35
Speaker 3: I love it. She you know, she's not going she's
• 37:39
Speaker 3: not out there shooting threes.
• 37:41
Speaker 4: She's underneath the basket, she's grabbing the rebound, she's doing
• 37:45
Speaker 4: all these kinds of things. And so you could make
• 37:47
Speaker 4: the case that it would be like comparing somebody who's
• 37:51
Speaker 4: playing who's running track and another person who's playing football
• 37:55
  Speaker 4: is so different.
• 37:57
Speaker 3: Because they don't do the same thing. And that's what
• 38:00
  Speaker 3: makes it fun.
• 38:01
Speaker 7: And I think the conversation could really be that, you know,
• 38:04
Speaker 7: just about just how they're going to play different and
• 38:07
Speaker 7: because you have a throwback player which I can appreciate
• 38:10
Speaker 7: it back to the basket player, and then you have
• 38:12
Speaker 7: this modern player, and you know, we could really be
• 38:15
Speaker 7: talking about that and like which one's gonna win the
• 38:17
Speaker 7: championship sort of thing.
• 38:19
  Speaker 3: But go ahead.
• 38:21
Speaker 5: I was just gonna say, you know, I really feel
• 38:23
Speaker 5: like if the if the sports analysts, the w NBA
• 38:25
Speaker 5: analysts would just kind of you know, kind of keep
• 38:28
Speaker 5: toning it down and let the girls, excuse me, let
• 38:31
Speaker 5: them do their spicy tweets toward each other and their
• 38:34
Speaker 5: social media, you know, the kind of jag you know,
• 38:35
Speaker 5: they jab at each other. That's fun because that's competitive.
• 38:39
Speaker 5: It's not really you know, going going that next level
• 38:43
Speaker 5: as far as like what the some of the analysts
• 38:45
Speaker 5: are doing. They're pushing it to a point that it's
• 38:47
Speaker 5: almost a political kind of feel. We don't write that well,
• 38:52
  Speaker 5: not in sports.
• 38:52
Speaker 4: Well because right now, and I'm gonna say for for most,
• 38:56
Speaker 4: for most, for the for what I would think in
• 38:59
Speaker 4: the fan base, I would think the fan base really
• 39:03
Speaker 4: wants to try to figure out who's just the best player,
• 39:06
Speaker 4: and unfortunately or fortunately they're both best players in different things.
• 39:10
Speaker 7: But I don't think they're figuring out who's the best player.
• 39:12
Speaker 7: I'm figuring out they're figuring out like who they like stylistically, right.
• 39:17
  Speaker 7: I think it's that. I think it's like you're figuring
• 39:20
Speaker 7: out what style you're like. And the women of the
• 39:23
Speaker 7: w NBA are winning so hard if you look at
• 39:27
Speaker 7: like their peril line, like I told you, like Angel
• 39:29
Speaker 7: Wilson has the hottest shoe right now. Angel Reaches just
• 39:32
Speaker 7: released her shoe. Kaitlin Clark is going to be releasing her.
• 39:35
Speaker 7: They're doing McDonald's commercials, they're on cereal boxes. They are
• 39:38
Speaker 7: winning so hard right now far as on that end.
• 39:42
Speaker 7: But yet we're just talking about something.
• 39:44
Speaker 3: That's just not it's not there. You know what I'm saying.
• 39:48
Speaker 4: Has a w NBA taking the wrong path? And this
• 39:52
Speaker 4: may even play into how you started a college? Did
• 39:55
  Speaker 4: they take the.
• 39:56
Speaker 3: Wrong path in how to grow your your your league?
• 40:00
Speaker 3: Because I think there is some this controversy.
• 40:05
Speaker 4: We're talking about it, ESPN's talking about it, so that's
• 40:08
Speaker 4: getting it out, But is that getting the league out
• 40:11
Speaker 4: or have they done an injustice to the entire league
• 40:15
Speaker 4: and not promoting the advancement of it.
• 40:19
Speaker 3: I think one hundred percent, because I think again they.
• 40:23
Speaker 7: Adage all bad publicity's good publicity doesn't matter long as
• 40:27
  Speaker 7: this publicity rights.
• 40:28
  Speaker 4: As you.
• 40:28
  Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't necessarily buy into that. I don't want
• 40:31
Speaker 7: some bad publicity. But I think what's happened is that
• 40:35
Speaker 7: the opportunity that I saw and we saw, we talked
• 40:38
Speaker 7: about a lot a lot of this last year, was
• 40:40
Speaker 7: that the style of play, the grittiness, the back to
• 40:44
Speaker 7: the basket play. The traditional basketball fan, if you grew
• 40:48
Speaker 7: up watching basketball in the nineties and eighties and you
• 40:51
Speaker 7: watch the NBA versus WNBA, you're probably going to lean
• 40:55
Speaker 7: more to the w NBA just because of the.
• 40:57
  Speaker 3: Style of play.
• 40:58
Speaker 7: Yeah, And I think that's what they could have played up, Like, look,
• 41:02
Speaker 7: we're not soft like the men's league. We're just not
• 41:04
Speaker 7: out here just shooting. This ain't pretty because even if
• 41:07
Speaker 7: you look at somebody like Andrew, she's a beautiful woman,
• 41:09
Speaker 7: but she plays gritty and ugly and I love it.
• 41:12
Speaker 7: I love that ses on the floor, I love that
• 41:14
Speaker 7: she gets in rebounds. I'm loving that style of play.
• 41:17
Speaker 7: And I think in addition to like sort of the
• 41:19
Speaker 7: glamorous side of what they did, which I thought they
• 41:21
Speaker 7: do a good job of, like Christy Brinkley and short
• 41:24
Speaker 7: of like these women are essentially supermodels, but they have
• 41:28
  Speaker 7: a style of play that's a throwback. And I think
• 41:31
Speaker 7: if they would have wa far as marketing would have
• 41:33
Speaker 7: merged those two things, kind of skip the controversy for now,
• 41:37
Speaker 7: focus on that, because again, even if you look at
• 41:40
Speaker 7: how leagues grow, if you study the NFL, if you
• 41:43
Speaker 7: study the NBA, they had to kind of get away
• 41:47
Speaker 7: from the controversy, focus on the play, get the play
• 41:50
Speaker 7: to where they could get it, and then they were
• 41:52
Speaker 7: able to capitalize on the marketing side of it. And
• 41:55
Speaker 7: then obviously, you know you can market play, mark right
• 42:01
Speaker 7: market that's what is going to keep you coming back
• 42:03
  Speaker 7: right right.
• 42:04
Speaker 5: And also, this is another point that I want to
• 42:06
Speaker 5: bring up about the NBA. You think about the household
• 42:09
Speaker 5: names that have come from that league. You know, WNBA
• 42:12
Speaker 5: started in nineteen ninety seven, you really haven't heard a
• 42:15
Speaker 5: lot about individual players until recently with Caitlin Clark and
• 42:19
Speaker 5: Angel Reese and who was the other last Jels. Yes,
• 42:22
Speaker 5: so they're they're they're making strides in getting closer to
• 42:27
Speaker 5: having those household names, which is something that's essential. You
• 42:30
Speaker 5: got to have that to be on the same level
• 42:32
Speaker 5: as the NBA. And it's going to take a minute
• 42:35
Speaker 5: because you think about the NBA was established in what
• 42:38
Speaker 5: nineteen forty nine, and and you know wa WNBA was
• 42:42
Speaker 5: nineteen ninety seven, So they've got a hot minute to go.
• 42:45
Speaker 3: But you know, this is a this is a good start.
• 42:47
  Speaker 3: I mean, they're they're going in.
• 42:48
Speaker 5: The right direction, but they need to steer it back into,
• 42:51
Speaker 5: like you said, focusing on the play on the court,
• 42:55
Speaker 5: you know, promoting that strategic type of game rather than
• 42:58
Speaker 5: the flashy style that the NBA provides.
• 43:00
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 43:00
Speaker 4: Well, and I think and I think where you where
• 43:04
  Speaker 4: the competitiveness of the w n B A is outstanding
• 43:08
Speaker 4: to me. You don't need anything else just if you're
• 43:14
Speaker 4: just out there playing, If they're just playing and they're
• 43:16
Speaker 4: not talking, if they're not talking off the court about
• 43:19
Speaker 4: anything other than the game itself that they playing, I
• 43:23
  Speaker 4: think it's a I think it's I think it's the
• 43:25
Speaker 4: top sport to watch and I and I think they're
• 43:30
  Speaker 4: losing that.
• 43:30
Speaker 7: I think that I agree with you one hundred percent.
• 43:33
Speaker 7: And I just say, like we're living in a time
• 43:35
Speaker 7: where it's just like we're constantly innundated with bad news
• 43:38
Speaker 7: right where there's politics, where this what is that, it's
• 43:42
Speaker 7: it's always something because now we get everything. It's not
• 43:45
Speaker 7: even back in the day where you're kind of just
• 43:47
Speaker 7: stuck to your local state news.
• 43:49
Speaker 3: We get everything from around the world.
• 43:51
Speaker 7: So at some point when you have the opportunity in
• 43:55
Speaker 7: a sport that I believe is on the rise, that
• 43:58
Speaker 7: I believe is a had a point inching closer better
• 44:01
Speaker 7: to its predecessor. And even like I talked about the marketing,
• 44:05
Speaker 7: marketing is important as far as like the shoe deals
• 44:07
Speaker 7: and stuff you have, Probably the top three shoe lines
• 44:10
Speaker 7: are gonna be women now that far as far as
• 44:13
Speaker 7: the new not like not count Jordan's, but the top
• 44:16
Speaker 7: when Kaylen Clark, Angel Rees and Angel Wilson when they
• 44:19
Speaker 7: got the shoe, they're gonna be the tops. They're gonna
• 44:21
Speaker 7: be the number one sellers. So you have an amazing opportunity.
• 44:24
Speaker 7: And I just wish to your point, Lisa, that the commentators,
• 44:28
Speaker 7: that the talking heads at the national.
• 44:30
Speaker 3: Level don't blow it. Yeah, well you're yeah, you're not
• 44:34
Speaker 3: gonna be able to point.
• 44:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, when when when those shoes drop and the publicity
• 44:39
Speaker 4: comes with those shoes, you don't have time to be
• 44:43
Speaker 4: sitting back there talking about some kind of petty stuff
• 44:45
Speaker 4: about that happened on the court.
• 44:47
Speaker 7: Yeah, because now it's like and it's just like the men,
• 44:49
Speaker 7: because now it was like some little some like little
• 44:52
Speaker 7: girls and little boys. Now they may know that they
• 44:55
Speaker 7: play basketball, but they may just like the shoes, like
• 44:57
Speaker 7: we've been with Jordan's and all the other stuff, you
• 44:59
Speaker 7: know what I mean. So it's it's like sort of
• 45:00
Speaker 7: multi level. So now you can have the play on
• 45:03
Speaker 7: the court, you can have the peril, you can have
• 45:05
Speaker 7: the personalities. And now the women have taken it a
• 45:07
Speaker 7: step further because, like I said, these women are essentially models,
• 45:11
Speaker 7: so now it's even that. So now you've got the
• 45:12
Speaker 7: little girls who just may look at that Kristin Brinkley
• 45:15
Speaker 7: and say she's glamorous, she's beautiful and all. She played
• 45:19
Speaker 7: basketball too, So it's like they really got an opportunity
• 45:23
Speaker 7: to really do something I think differently.
• 45:26
Speaker 5: So let me ask you guys both the question and
• 45:28
Speaker 5: we just I just talked about the household names. They're
• 45:31
Speaker 5: covering that base, we're covering the merch. Okay, so that's
• 45:35
Speaker 5: the second that's another step in going in the right direction.
• 45:37
Speaker 5: How is it that the w NBA can convince the
• 45:41
Speaker 5: media to give them as much coverage as the NBA gets,
• 45:44
Speaker 5: because we all know they've got to buy into it
• 45:47
Speaker 5: just as much, you know, money wise as any other
• 45:50
Speaker 5: part of them becoming, you know, a popular brand. So
• 45:55
Speaker 5: do you feel like the media is buying into it
• 45:57
Speaker 5: like as much as the NBA?
• 45:58
Speaker 3: I do, I will. I feel like a lot of their.
• 46:00
Speaker 5: Games are on ESPN correct rather than the ABC, NBC's
• 46:04
Speaker 5: like the NBA is. So how do you convince those
• 46:07
Speaker 5: outlets to kind of buy in?
• 46:09
  Speaker 3: I think they're in, You think I think that I
• 46:12
  Speaker 3: think they're in.
• 46:13
Speaker 4: I just think that what they're what what they're doing
• 46:17
  Speaker 4: is there's just a few stars that they're that they're
• 46:20
Speaker 4: focusing on. They're looking at the things that are going
• 46:24
Speaker 4: on in between those things. Which is it which is
• 46:28
Speaker 4: limiting the actual play of the game.
• 46:31
Speaker 3: When's the last time you heard somebody how many points
• 46:33
  Speaker 3: they got?
• 46:33
Speaker 4: You only got when you say that, well, Reech got
• 46:36
Speaker 4: this many, Clark got that many.
• 46:37
Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. It's like a comparison right,
• 46:39
Speaker 3: and I would say which goes to the household names
• 46:42
Speaker 3: to that point, yes.
• 46:44
Speaker 7: I would say the league has they made their I
• 46:48
Speaker 7: believe in the future they're gonna maybe think about starting
• 46:50
Speaker 7: the season at a different time. Okay, I think starting
• 46:53
Speaker 7: the season in the spring, because what happens is you
• 46:56
Speaker 7: started after basketball season pretty mint NBA ends, and then
• 47:00
Speaker 7: it's awkward because it starts at like the end of
• 47:02
Speaker 7: the school year, going in the summer, yes, right.
• 47:05
Speaker 3: So number one, but you go ahead.
• 47:08
Speaker 7: I'm just saying, like number one, like a lot of
• 47:10
Speaker 7: people sort of are transitioning as far as kind of
• 47:13
Speaker 7: what else they're doing because there's other stuff going on.
• 47:16
Speaker 7: So it's like the schedules not necessarily set. And I'm
• 47:19
Speaker 7: talking about kids, yeah, summer vacation, different things like that.
• 47:23
Speaker 3: So I think that it's tough just when it starts.
• 47:27
Speaker 7: I don't know far as kind of when that could be,
• 47:30
Speaker 7: if that can be tweaked, because I think the goal
• 47:32
Speaker 7: for them is to have all eyes on them, but
• 47:35
Speaker 7: it's difficult in that season.
• 47:37
Speaker 3: It's just difficult because it's out of season.
• 47:42
Speaker 5: Put it there. Then they're competing with college and NFL.
• 47:46
  Speaker 3: That's what I don't have anything.
• 47:51
Speaker 4: That is a major problem because you don't really have
• 47:54
Speaker 4: a place. You don't want them competing against football. But
• 47:57
  Speaker 4: I would say, here's.
• 47:58
Speaker 7: How I mean, I'm I'm not saying that this is it,
• 48:02
Speaker 7: but this may be just a suggestion. I would possibly
• 48:05
Speaker 7: start it in January. No mid season NBA, because mid
• 48:11
Speaker 7: season NBA up until like kind of a little bit
• 48:14
Speaker 7: after the All Star Break is just a blah watching
• 48:18
Speaker 7: basketball during that season. So I'm saying, if you had
• 48:20
Speaker 7: the season started in January, didn't have your championship, either
• 48:24
Speaker 7: right before the playoffs or right before the men have
• 48:28
Speaker 7: their the NBA has their championship, So I wouldn't possibly
• 48:32
Speaker 7: consider moving it to that. I mean, it's a little crowded,
• 48:36
Speaker 7: but it's not as crowded. Baseball necessarily hasn't started yet.
• 48:39
Speaker 7: College football season's ending, NFL ending, so really the only
• 48:43
Speaker 7: thing that's really started that the basketball midway point, and
• 48:46
Speaker 7: it's drys heck midway point basketball.
• 48:49
Speaker 3: It's not good basketball during that time.
• 48:51
Speaker 7: So I would start the season in January until January, February, March,
• 48:56
Speaker 7: April ended in May, so it's ending now. So my
• 48:59
Speaker 7: my champion beion ship series right before the men's So
• 49:02
Speaker 7: that way it would you can watch the women's and
• 49:04
  Speaker 7: then you watch.
• 49:05
Speaker 3: The men's do we I need to be the commitsion.
• 49:09
Speaker 3: So you got here, so I'm.
• 49:11
Speaker 4: Assuming you're a commissioner. Yeah, I'm gonna treat you as
• 49:15
  Speaker 4: a commissioner. So the n b A, can you shut
• 49:20
Speaker 4: down the number of games? I mean like that, because
• 49:23
Speaker 4: that I mean they to me, they they played too
• 49:25
  Speaker 4: many teams.
• 49:25
Speaker 7: Anyway, Unfortunately, I know that guy. It's the way the guys,
• 49:29
Speaker 7: it's about money. It's guaranteed contracts in the NBA. The
• 49:33
Speaker 7: guys getting paid exhamited in the amount of money. So
• 49:35
Speaker 7: it's just way too much money. So nah, and I
• 49:38
Speaker 7: think that's to me, that's the beauty of the w
• 49:39
  Speaker 7: n b A. It's not as many games, so they
• 49:41
Speaker 7: can go a lot harder for a lot that shorter period.
• 49:45
Speaker 4: And what makes it, what makes it attractive is how
• 49:47
Speaker 4: hard they go. And if you if you flip through
• 49:50
Speaker 4: the channels and you see an NBA game, it's one guy, Yeah,
• 49:57
Speaker 4: it's one or two guys.
• 49:58
Speaker 3: Even watching the game last night.
• 49:59
Speaker 5: It was just oh yeah, it was yond I turned
• 50:04
Speaker 5: it on and they were up by like twenty.
• 50:06
Speaker 3: I can't believe this is like a com final. This
• 50:09
Speaker 3: is awful. How do you get a conference final with
• 50:13
Speaker 3: with those types of scores?
• 50:14
Speaker 5: It was, it was bad, and you know, the viewership
• 50:17
Speaker 5: was like, you know, it's a week not anyway, you're
• 50:20
  Speaker 5: not work.
• 50:21
Speaker 3: You're not standing up for that.
• 50:22
Speaker 4: What you realized it looks like now we can't say
• 50:26
Speaker 4: they can't come back?
• 50:27
Speaker 3: Would you lose me once?
• 50:29
  Speaker 4: You?
• 50:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, get on and it's a three to one series.
• 50:32
Speaker 7: So it's just like me many, well, Hallis, I think
• 50:39
Speaker 7: you have to you have to run. So me and
• 50:42
Speaker 7: recent me and Lisa, well, well we'll close out.
• 50:49
  Speaker 3: So you know.
• 50:50
Speaker 5: Kind of going on this theme that we're talking about
• 50:53
  Speaker 5: with the w n b A and the NBA, I
• 50:55
Speaker 5: wonder if there's a way they could partner like the
• 50:57
Speaker 5: teams like you know, like Hollis said, start the season
• 51:00
Speaker 5: for the w NBA in January. I think that's an
• 51:02
Speaker 5: excellent idea because the season does get kind of boring
• 51:05
Speaker 5: at that point, and then maybe pair up like you
• 51:08
Speaker 5: could do like a doubleheader or some type like you
• 51:10
Speaker 5: could have like your Dallas Mavericks versus the WNBA or
• 51:14
Speaker 5: not versus, but you could have their game first and
• 51:16
  Speaker 5: then follow up.
• 51:17
Speaker 3: With the women's team in Texas. I'm not sure which
• 51:19
  Speaker 3: team it is.
• 51:20
Speaker 5: I'm not that familiar, but do something that would promote
• 51:23
Speaker 5: the WNBA kind of get you know, arm in arm
• 51:26
Speaker 5: with the NBA to kind of help get them going.
• 51:29
Speaker 3: Kin And if I'm understanding you, are they doing that? Well? No,
• 51:33
  Speaker 3: I don't think so, but I'm wondering. Let's assume Let's
• 51:39
Speaker 3: say I just say.
• 51:40
Speaker 4: Minnesota NBA team, NBA team or WNBA team in Minnesota.
• 51:46
Speaker 3: Right, That's what I mean. So could they to me
• 51:49
Speaker 3: I'm looking at that, could they play back to back?
• 51:51
Speaker 3: That's what I mean? Yes, yes, so I would think
• 51:54
Speaker 3: that would be that would be ideal.
• 51:57
Speaker 4: Now, the problem if I'm the NBA is what the
• 52:01
Speaker 4: w NBA looks like after me, because it's gonna look
• 52:05
Speaker 4: because you're gonna you're you're gonna turn off the NBA
• 52:09
  Speaker 4: probably and wait on the w n B a game
• 52:12
Speaker 4: just because at this point it's a one or two
• 52:15
Speaker 4: guy possibly on the team.
• 52:18
  Speaker 3: But even that guy's not I don't know. I don't
• 52:22
Speaker 3: know if it's they're not necessary.
• 52:24
Speaker 4: I don't want to say not notable, but it's not
• 52:27
Speaker 4: a draw like they're not the person.
• 52:29
  Speaker 3: You know, there's not. You don't have to w n
• 52:31
Speaker 3: B A NBA. NBA is not the draw. Yeah, I
• 52:34
Speaker 3: don't think the NBA is the draw. I don't know.
• 52:37
  Speaker 5: I think I think I'm gonna go a different opinion
• 52:40
Speaker 5: on that. NBA is still popular. I mean, I know this,
• 52:45
Speaker 5: especially this time. I like to watch it this time
• 52:47
Speaker 5: of you're except for the game last night, I mean,
• 52:49
Speaker 5: I like the playoffs.
• 52:50
Speaker 4: See how many how many times are you getting those
• 52:52
Speaker 4: type those types of games?
• 52:54
  Speaker 3: You know, they're they're they're they're happening more and more.
• 52:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, so now you're shutting it off halftime, you know
• 53:00
Speaker 4: you're going to bed.
• 53:00
Speaker 3: You know, it's just it just is.
• 53:02
  Speaker 4: And you're also there's there's there's not necessarily the old
• 53:07
Speaker 4: Laker team, the old Celtics team where you know everybody.
• 53:11
  Speaker 3: On the team.
• 53:11
Speaker 4: You know a couple of people on the team, and
• 53:14
Speaker 4: and that's it. So the teams are not being they're
• 53:18
Speaker 4: not well known overall, right, which they used to be.
• 53:24
  Speaker 4: Now the w n B A is basically the whole
• 53:27
Speaker 4: w NBA is surrounded by maybe three to four or
• 53:31
  Speaker 4: five players.
• 53:32
Speaker 3: Yeah that's about it, and that's about it at this point.
• 53:36
Speaker 4: And but but yet people are attracted to those Well, I.
• 53:42
Speaker 5: Think it's well, it's kind of like what what Hollis
• 53:45
Speaker 5: was saying in the beginning about the style of play,
• 53:48
Speaker 5: and you've said this too. If you want that strategic
• 53:52
Speaker 5: type of old school basketball, then you're you're going to
• 53:56
  Speaker 5: naturally be attracted to the w n b A and
• 53:58
Speaker 5: watching those games. But if you still like those flashy,
• 54:02
Speaker 5: dunking three pointer type of games that are you know,
• 54:05
Speaker 5: for some people that's that's what they like to watch
• 54:07
Speaker 5: in basketball, not so much fun the fundamentals, then they're
• 54:11
Speaker 5: attracted to the NBA. So I think it's two different
• 54:14
Speaker 5: entertainment values that people are seeking, and so one league
• 54:18
Speaker 5: meets the needs of this type of audience and then
• 54:22
Speaker 5: the other meets the needs of the you know, a
• 54:24
Speaker 5: different audience. So to me, pairing them up would be
• 54:29
Speaker 5: like the best of both worlds.
• 54:32
  Speaker 3: Right Yeah.
• 54:37
Speaker 4: The kind of fan that I am to say, basketball,
• 54:42
Speaker 4: I want to see I want to see the guy
• 54:46
Speaker 4: or the girl, you know what I'm saying, whoever that
• 54:48
Speaker 4: person is or what it used to be used to
• 54:51
Speaker 4: be the team, right, you know, I wanted to see
• 54:53
Speaker 4: the Lakers. I wanted to see the Celtics.
• 54:55
Speaker 3: I want you know what I'm saying, Like, and you
• 54:56
Speaker 3: don't think it's still team oriented.
• 54:58
Speaker 5: I do think a lot of people are kind of
• 55:00
Speaker 5: like the NFL, you have a team regardless of the players.
• 55:03
Speaker 5: Like for me, I'll bring it up. I like the
• 55:06
Speaker 5: Packers and whether Aaron Rodgers fan, I like Jordan Love
• 55:11
Speaker 5: So I mean to me, it's the same with the NBA.
• 55:13
Speaker 5: People have a team and they follow that team regardless
• 55:16
Speaker 5: of who plays plays it.
• 55:17
Speaker 3: They don't follow players. See, I'm thinking you don't think that. No,
• 55:22
  Speaker 3: I don't just see I don't know, I really don't.
• 55:26
Speaker 3: I really your opinion. I really think, I.
• 55:30
Speaker 4: Really think that that they that it does follow the
• 55:34
  Speaker 4: players now in W the W n b A, I
• 55:37
Speaker 4: think it is, well it was, it's all.
• 55:39
  Speaker 5: The n b A, the NBA, I still which has
• 55:42
Speaker 5: a bigger viewership and and more household names and people
• 55:46
Speaker 5: know the names of the teams.
• 55:48
Speaker 3: I mean, I think the I think they remember the team. Well, yeah,
• 55:53
Speaker 3: you remember the team. But I'm thinking they're still following now,
• 55:56
Speaker 3: they're following players maybe the younger generation. Yes, yes, okay,
• 56:02
Speaker 3: you know and and and I'll give you that, Scott,
• 56:05
Speaker 3: because I'm gonna say it. I'm just giving you that that.
• 56:07
Speaker 7: Steph Curry, you're following him. If he move the team,
• 56:12
  Speaker 7: you're following him.
• 56:13
Speaker 3: I don't know what do you mean?
• 56:15
Speaker 5: I mean, I mean, I think people follow teams still.
• 56:18
Speaker 5: I don't think we've gotten that far away from it.
• 56:20
Speaker 5: Maybe the younger generation, but I mean, I can't see
• 56:23
Speaker 5: somebody that has a If you're an.
• 56:25
Speaker 4: Old school Laker fan or Celtic fan, you probably are students.
• 56:31
Speaker 5: See a lot of like Oklahoma, what are they thunder
• 56:34
Speaker 5: or whatever. I don't see a lot of those jerseys
• 56:36
Speaker 5: compared to Lakers jerseys or or or Celtic jerseys. I mean,
• 56:41
Speaker 5: I still think the old school Go.
• 56:42
Speaker 3: Ahead, all right, producer dropping the help.
• 56:46
Speaker 10: I got one player's name that I think, unfortunately goes
• 56:50
Speaker 10: with what Carl is saying here. Lebron James, Well, okay,
• 56:54
Speaker 10: he has been with what that's like Michael Jordan's well,
• 56:57
Speaker 10: but same level, Brian.
• 57:00
Speaker 3: Now, no, I'm at the level of popularity.
• 57:03
Speaker 5: I'm not saying talent, I'm saying popularity.
• 57:06
Speaker 10: I will say this, I have always read it for
• 57:08
Speaker 10: the Chicago Bulls because I grew up in the Jordan era,
• 57:12
Speaker 10: and so I started becoming a Chicago Bulls fan when
• 57:15
Speaker 10: he was in the league, and I still keep an
• 57:18
Speaker 10: eye on what they're doing, So.
• 57:20
Speaker 3: I will give you that.
• 57:21
Speaker 10: But I think it just kind of depends because some teams,
• 57:25
Speaker 10: like the Bulls, have been in that championship talk for years,
• 57:29
Speaker 10: and then there are other teams out there that have
• 57:31
Speaker 10: had good players but they never really got all the
• 57:34
Speaker 10: way through. And so you know, you developed that relationship,
• 57:39
Speaker 10: you kind of follow that player, and so you do
• 57:41
Speaker 10: kind of follow them around the league.
• 57:42
Speaker 5: But so you're you're kind of being You're kind of
• 57:44
  Speaker 5: being Switzerland here.
• 57:45
Speaker 3: Yeah, I like it. I like it.
• 57:49
Speaker 5: That's a good way to handle it.
• 57:51
Speaker 3: And I hate and I hate to say this, but.
• 57:57
Speaker 4: When you throw the Bronze name out there, I don't
• 58:02
Speaker 4: know if I just don't know if anybody's quote following him.
• 58:07
Speaker 3: Oh come on, if you you.
• 58:10
Speaker 4: May have followed him from the start, but now you're
• 58:15
Speaker 4: you're twenty teams in.
• 58:19
Speaker 3: That's a fair point. You're twenty teams in. Like, dude,
• 58:23
Speaker 3: I can't you know, you took me.
• 58:25
Speaker 7: From the East coast to the West coast, from the
• 58:27
  Speaker 7: north and south.
• 58:28
  Speaker 4: I mean, like, I can't, I can't. I can't roll
• 58:31
Speaker 4: with you, you know, because I actually.
• 58:33
  Speaker 3: Did like that.
• 58:34
Speaker 5: But are they truly fans of the team or are
• 58:36
Speaker 5: they just just watching the player?
• 58:38
Speaker 3: I mean, are they rooting actively? Old school?
• 58:41
Speaker 4: I think they were the team and all the players
• 58:43
Speaker 4: that were on the team today, I think it's the player.
• 58:47
Speaker 10: With Lebron, he was fine until he went to the Lakers.
• 58:50
Speaker 10: He went to the team other than the Chicago Bulls.
• 58:54
Speaker 10: You got it's the Bulls, the Celtics, and the Lakers.
• 58:57
Speaker 10: If you talk about any of those three teams, Yeah,
• 58:59
Speaker 10: you know immediately, And I think when he jumped to
• 59:02
Speaker 10: the Lakers, it was almost like the opposite thing. It
• 59:05
Speaker 10: was like, Oh, he's going out there because he wants.
• 59:07
Speaker 3: To build a super team.
• 59:09
Speaker 10: Yeah, like it became too obvious.
• 59:11
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, oh for sure, I'll agree with that.
• 59:15
Speaker 3: Well, we're probably not gonna take this anywhere. I think
• 59:22
Speaker 3: we'll just all agree to disagree somewhat. Yeah. Yeah, you know.
• 59:27
Speaker 4: Well, ladies and gentlemen, we hope that you enjoyed the
