The Nature Conservancy just added 1,732 acres in Eastern Kentucky to its conservation puzzle, linking protected lands and safeguarding one of the East Coast’s largest intact forests. This Thacker property, nestled in the Cumberland-Pine Mountain corridor, is vital for wildlife movement, climate resilience, and river headwaters. TNC plans to transfer it to Kentucky’s Fish and Wildlife Resources to enhance connectivity, manage resources, and open access for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts—all while countering development and climate threats to preserve biodiversity for generations.
