- 0:05The following story takes place in the year nineteen hundred and ninety- two.
- 0:09Back then, I was only thirteen. My family environment was not the best
- 0:16in the world, as my parents used to work most of the day and
- 0:20as an only child, I spent most of the time alone being very deprived
- 0:25of parental supervision, I ended up surrounded by bad company and thinking I could
- 0:31do what I wanted without any consequence. This resulted in him being caught by
- 0:37the police while delivering an illicit substance. Because he was a minor. At
- 0:44that time they could not do much about it. However, the person to
- 0:50whom the product belonged was not very happy to have lost it, which put
- 0:54me in real danger. My parents, unable to watch 24 hours because of
- 1:00their jobs, decided that it would be better for me to spend some time
- 1:04with my grandfather, who lived three hours from the city on a ranch.
- 1:10At first I resisted, as I barely knew my grandfather more than for photographs.
- 1:15My father used to tell me that my grandfather preferred a quiet life,
- 1:21away from the hustle and bustle of the city, which is why he lived
- 1:23so far away. Despite my resistance, I ended up moving in with my
- 1:29grandfather. It was a very long journey and I found it eternal, as
- 1:33we arrived at a ranch that was in the middle of nowhere and quite hidden.
- 1:38I realized that my father was not joking when he said that my grandfather
- 1:42liked peace of mind, since he only lived there and another man, whom
- 1:46he had already seen in some family photograph, but whom he had not paid
- 1:51much attention to. This was my grandfather' s best friend, who had
- 1:56lived with him for a long time. My father explained the whole situation to
- 2:01my grandfather, who agreed that I should stay with him on the condition that
- 2:06he would help out at the ranch, as there was always a need for
- 2:08hands. In his own words. Although my father agreed without questioning me,
- 2:15I didn' t really have many options, as he wanted to keep me
- 2:19safe. When my father left, I realized that my stay at that place
- 2:23wouldn' t be like a vacation at all. My grandfather told me that
- 2:28I should leave my belongings in the guest room and get to work right away.
- 2:35My grandfather' s ranch was huge and had all kinds of animals like
- 2:38cows, horses, chickens and many others, which I had only seen in
- 2:44photographs or on television. My first job was to move the alfalfa, because,
- 2:49as I was told, if it didn' t move, it could
- 2:53come out mushrooms or something. That took me a lot more work than I
- 2:58thought it would be. I never knew anything like that was done and my
- 3:01hands started to hurt. After a few hours, almost finished, I heard
- 3:07for the first time the snorting of a donkey that sounded very close to me,
- 3:12so much that I thought it was inside the cellar where I was,
- 3:16but when I turned I could not see anything or anyone. That was the
- 3:20first time I' d heard a donkey snoop. But the strangest thing was
- 3:23that, despite having taken a tour of where all the animals were, I
- 3:28did not remember seeing a donkey at all. I heard that brawl. A
- 3:35second time it was also heard much louder and to some degree terrifying. I
- 3:40got so nervous that I left everything I was doing to run out of the
- 3:45cellar and went straight to where my grandfather was. When he saw me somewhat
- 3:52frightened, he questioned me about what had happened and why I wasn' t
- 3:55doing my job. I told him about what I' d heard. However,
- 4:00his response was much less reassuring than he expected. He told me not
- 4:05to be silly, as there was no donkey on the ranch and I was
- 4:10sure he had heard something else. I remember even hearing him make a joke
- 4:15with his friend saying that the kids in town didn' t know what a
- 4:18donkey sounds like. I wanted to stand by what I had heard. However,
- 4:24I soon realized that my words were falling on deaf ears, so I
- 4:29had to finish my job again. I did it as fast as I could
- 4:34and very afraid to hear that rebuzz again. But to my fortune, that
- 4:40didn' t happen. However, every sound or movement made me think that
- 4:45a donkey would come out of nowhere. Despite my grandfather' s mockery.
- 4:49I was absolutely sure of what I had heard. Perhaps I had never seen
- 4:55a donkey in real life, but I had seen some on TV and heard
- 4:59its characteristic sound. I knew that what I had heard moments before was the
- 5:05sound that donkeys made. I was able to finish the job without major incidents.
- 5:11I was about to go back to my grandfather' s for dinner.
- 5:14Me. He found himself very tired and wasn' t far away. However,
- 5:17the more he walked, the more the way seemed to become more and
- 5:23more eternal. I didn' t understand why. I felt that I had
- 5:27been walking for a long time and to look up I kept seeing that I
- 5:32still had to travel to get there. That' s when I started to
- 5:36feel watched by a pretty horrible feeling that it didn' t matter where I
- 5:41was looking. I felt like someone was looking at me. I tried to
- 5:45rush through, but that feeling got stronger and stronger. Suddenly I could hear
- 5:50that rebuzz again that made me run away with all my might and while I
- 5:57did, I could hear what seemed to be laughter, but they did not
- 6:01seem human. It was almost like an animal was laughing. I barely got
- 6:08there with my grandfather, who looked at me strangely, as I was too
- 6:12agitated. However, I did not have the courage to tell him what had
- 6:15happened, as I knew that I would end up discrediting my story and laughing
- 6:20at it. That night I barely touched my bed I fell down. However,
- 6:27I woke up a few hours later because of the cold. That'
- 6:30s when I realized that one of my windows was open, I decided to
- 6:35get up to close it, but the moment I left my bed. A
- 6:40chill ran all over my spine. I didn' t understand why that was
- 6:46a feeling I' d never experienced. I assumed it could also be due
- 6:51to the cold feeling, so I walked into the window. As soon as
- 6:56I closed it, I could hear a rebuzz again, but it' s
- 7:00so often it wasn' t just the sound. As I looked up I
- 7:04could see how outside was a donkey, but this one was not like any
- 7:09other donkey. I was standing on two legs completely upright and staring at me.
- 7:15This one was very close to a tractor, which my grandfather parked in
- 7:19front of the house. The scene was surreal, because the donkey was not
- 7:25moving towards anything but looking at me. Fear paralyzed me to such an extent
- 7:30that I couldn' t get away from the window. I felt as if
- 7:32my feet were nailed to the ground and felt compelled to witness that terrifying scene.
- 7:40That' s when suddenly the donkey started screaming. It was a mixture
- 7:45of human screams and those of a donkey, a sound that I can only
- 7:49describe as something diabolical. The sound was so loud that I couldn' t
- 7:55explain why my grandfather or his friend didn' t listen so well, since
- 7:59I was convinced that it should be heard in every corner of the ranch.
- 8:03And yet, they both seemed to remain asleep. Those screams continued, so
- 8:09I have always described it as an eternity. Suddenly the donkey stopped emitting those
- 8:13hellish sounds to start hitting my grandfather' s tractor so hard that I was
- 8:20sure it would decompose him. Those sounds They alerted my grandfather and his friend,
- 8:26as I could hear noises outside my room. The moment I heard the
- 8:33door open in her room and heard someone say they had stepped into the ranch,
- 8:37I was amazed as before my eyes. That infernal donkey was fading right
- 8:43in front of me. It was almost like I' d never been there.
- 8:46However, there was evidence and this was evident in the terrible damage to
- 8:50the tractor. Even if they were afraid they' d make fun of me.
- 8:54As for my story, I told everything I' d seen about it.
- 9:00All this time I had some evidence. My grandfather listened attentively, looked
- 9:05at the tractor and then his friend shaking his head negatively. He just let
- 9:11that fucker go. Nahual again. Those words left me completely frozen and the
- 9:16worst thing was that my grandfather didn' t even bother to explain anything to
- 9:20me. He just said we should get back to bed. Needless to say,
- 9:24I couldn' t sleep. The rest of the night. I feared
- 9:28that creature would return or at least I was afraid to hear it again.
- 9:31However, for my fortune, that did not happen. I found myself so
- 9:39scared during breakfast the next day that my grandfather finally had mercy on me and
- 9:43assured me that I had nothing to worry about. Actually, that donkey had
- 9:48never hurt anyone. He only liked to scare and provoke destruction on other people
- 9:54' s property explained to me that no one really knew who he was,
- 10:01but that there was suspicion of a man who lived a few minutes from the
- 10:03ranch. Despite my grandfather' s explanation, it took me a few days
- 10:07to process all that. I couldn' t even believe in myself for having
- 10:13lived that supernatural experience. However, after that I learned that the world is
- 10:18a much more complex place than I could imagine living with my grandfather. Almost
- 10:24a year took me to experience some other things, but I will never forget
- 10:31that first experience, in my first approach with a gual. My name is
- 10:39Sebastian, and the story I have to tell you today is one of the
- 10:45scariest experiences I have ever experienced, just as it helped me to understand that
- 10:50there are many more things in this world than science or medicine can explain.
- 10:58It all started when I was twenty- four. I was in my last
- 11:01year of medicine, so I had to perform my social service in a village
- 11:07from which I will omit its name and location to avoid problems. I was
- 11:11not so excited to go to a village that I was several hours away from
- 11:16my home town and much less one where there were no comforts I was used
- 11:20to in the city. However, I didn' t have many options,
- 11:26as I wanted to graduate. When I arrived in that village, I could
- 11:31notice that people were divided among those who felt grateful and relieved that a real
- 11:37doctor would finally reach their community and the others who saw me as if I
- 11:41were Lucifer Reincarnate himself. I decided not to take it very seriously, because
- 11:50both known as teachers had warned me that in those communities it was quite common
- 11:56to meet these kinds of people who saw medicine as the devil' s thing.
- 12:01Although this initial reaction made me feel a little uncomfortable because of the stories
- 12:05I had heard from some doctors who had been assaulted by those beliefs, I
- 12:13decided to give them a chance and thought that if I just did my job
- 12:16and treated people well, then no one would have a real reason to mess
- 12:22with me. I was greeted with a lot of emotions from day one.
- 12:26I was still not coming to the house where I was going to stay during
- 12:31my stay in the village, when I was contacted immediately to help a child
- 12:35who seemed to have convulsed out of nowhere, I did everything that was in
- 12:39my hands and managed to stabilize him. However, the child remained unconscious and
- 12:45as I tried to remember what my medical books could say about it to help
- 12:50me, I could hear some comments about something being about to take it.
- 12:56That comment particularly caught my close attention, as I could not understand the relationship
- 13:03between a seizure and the fact that the child was about to be kidnapped by
- 13:05someone or something as I had understood it. However, I did not have
- 13:11the courage or the confidence to question about that comment, since it had not
- 13:16even been directed towards me, I did not manage to get the child to
- 13:22regain consciousness, so I simply left him at home and left precise instructions on
- 13:28what his parents should do to make him well, while at the same time
- 13:33recommending that they move him to a hospital that had better facilities to be able
- 13:39to attend to him. After that, I set out to go to the
- 13:43house, which I had been told would be my place this day. I
- 13:46was very surprised to get to that place and find the furnished, as I
- 13:52had the impression that I would find an empty place with nothing but a bed.
- 13:58I thought that was a great welcome from the inhabitants of the village.
- 14:01However, the more I walked around the house. The more I realized that,
- 14:07more than a welcome, that was a very strange thing. It was
- 14:11not that someone had furnished the place, but that the former doctor who had
- 14:16inhabited that house seemed to have gone so quickly that he had not taken his
- 14:22things away. Not only were there medical books, there were also clothes,
- 14:26shoes, and belongings precious to anyone, which did not explain to me why
- 14:33someone would simply abandon them. However, those things were not the most alarming.
- 14:37Inside that house, when I needed to use the toilet, I realized
- 14:43that in the bathroom there was a Bible and a wooden cross, as well
- 14:46as a rosary. I' ve never been religious before. My parents had
- 14:54educated me as an atheist so religion had never been part of my life,
- 14:58even though it was quite respectful of the beliefs of others. My parents had
- 15:05taught me that too. What I couldn' t understand was why those things
- 15:09were inside the bathroom. I ended up thinking I shouldn' t find an
- 15:16explanation for everything, as the former doctor probably liked to read the Bible or
- 15:20something. So, without much thought, I took those things out of the
- 15:24bathroom. That night I went to sleep a little restless. There were so
- 15:30many more questions I could answer. However, after a few hours, I
- 15:35was finally able to dive into a rather restless dream. I dreamed of myself
- 15:39walking through the village, but there was absolutely no one else but I all
- 15:46seemed to be in an overwhelming silence that made me feel very bad. I
- 15:50was walking, I think, looking for someone, but no matter where I
- 15:56turned the most I realized that I was alone suddenly some grunts were present in
- 16:02that absolute silence. They were the same as a dog, only they sounded
- 16:07even more fierce as if the dog was very angry. It didn' t
- 16:11matter where he turned. The sound seemed to come from everywhere, but I
- 16:15couldn' t see any dog. Suddenly I could hear a few quadruped steps
- 16:22approaching me at full speed, but by the darkness I could not yet see
- 16:26the dog. My survival instinct prevented me from standing to wait for him and
- 16:33I started running in the opposite direction, I couldn' t stop, because
- 16:37I knew what to do. The dog would catch up with me, but
- 16:41every time I turned around I still couldn' t see the dog. It
- 16:44was like an endless cycle from which he could not escape. The grunts were
- 16:48almost maddening to some extent. But I finally managed to wake up, woke
- 16:56up startled and with my heart. I had no idea at the hour that
- 16:59it had been all that, since it was not the type of person who
- 17:03suffered from nightmares, and it could even be said that it was the type
- 17:07of person who never remembered what he had dreamed. That must be why that
- 17:11dream I still don' t remember to perfection. To this day I did
- 17:15not manage to reconcile the dream after waking up that way. Whenever I closed
- 17:21my eyes, I could not help but think that a huge dog was in
- 17:26front of my bed or somewhere in my room. What made me open my
- 17:30eyes That' s when I decided to go to the bathroom to cool off
- 17:34a little bit and maybe that way I' d get to sleep. While
- 17:38I found myself refreshing my face with sink water, I began to hear,
- 17:44as if someone were desperately knocking on my door, which surprised me a little,
- 17:48since although I did not have my phone at that time to see the
- 17:52time, I knew it should be at least morning. I walked up to
- 17:56the door and asked who it was. Don' t get any answers.
- 18:00The blows stopped, leaving me very confused. I thought about opening the door,
- 18:06but when I was about to, I started to hear barking outside my
- 18:11house. Which made me remember almost immediately the nightmare I had just a few
- 18:15moments before. So I kept the door shut and went back to bed.
- 18:22Needless to say, I couldn' t sleep for the rest of the night.
- 18:27The day brought with it the sad news that the child I had laid
- 18:32upon my arrival had not survived the night. That was pretty sad for me.
- 18:37The worst, however, was hardly yet to come, for that child
- 18:41was the first of many I saw marching down the hall of death. During
- 18:45my stay in the village, it seemed that every day a different child died.
- 18:52None of them were older than seven years old. I thought it might
- 18:55be something in the water of the village or in its food, but none
- 18:59of my speculation waxes seemed to carry anywhere and as if that wasn' t
- 19:04enough, nightmares with a dog stalking my being became the bread of every night
- 19:10in that place, all accompanied by knocks on the door, exactly at three
- 19:14thirty- three in the morning. They were heavy blows and when I questioned
- 19:19who was the only thing that answered me were barking from a dog. One
- 19:25night when I was awakened by the same nightmare and the knocks on the door
- 19:30soon began, I decided that I was sick of the whole situation. I
- 19:34got up with all intent to see what was outside my house. I took
- 19:40a stick and with all the courage and courage I could gather within myself,
- 19:45I opened the door just to find myself in absolute silence and calm. The
- 19:49doctors' house was a little far from the rest of the other houses,
- 19:55so the tranquility was especially suffocating. I was just about to get back inside
- 20:00the house. When I heard the dog barking, it made me turn right
- 20:06away. I couldn' t see any dog anywhere, but I could hear
- 20:11it. It had to be close. I went out a bit specifically to
- 20:18the room on one side of the house, which remained in black works,
- 20:22thinking that that was where the dog was hiding or whoever was playing such heavy
- 20:26jokes throughout my stay. There, however, what I saw there was not
- 20:32at all what I expected. In fact, it was a dog, but
- 20:37in the dark I could only see part of its snout, which did not
- 20:41rise to the height of a normal dog. Rather, he was almost up
- 20:45to me. He was hiding in the dark, but he could hear his
- 20:49agitated breathing. Like a dog' s classic panting. Each part of my
- 20:56being asked me to run away, but my feet seemed to be stuck on
- 21:00the ground. Suddenly the dog began to walk directly towards the exit of that
- 21:06room. That' s when I saw that it was on two legs.
- 21:11It was as if a grown man wore a very realistic boot of a dog.
- 21:15But the worst of all was his hands, which, unlike the rest
- 21:19of the body, were not canines, were completely human. That creature smiled
- 21:26at me in a creepy way. Before speaking this said you can help me
- 21:32doctor at the same time that you were extending your humanoid hands towards me.
- 21:36That made me have control of my body again and I could run away.
- 21:41I ended up locked in the bathroom. Sitting there trying to process everything he
- 21:45had just lived. I could understand why those sacred things were found in that
- 21:49place. I left the village without giving any explanation. The next day he
- 21:56could not stay one more night in that place. The people I have told
- 22:02this story tell me that it is likely that that dog was a Wally and
- 22:06this could be responsible for the deaths of the children. I don' t
- 22:11know if that' s true. I just know that whatever it was,
- 22:14I hope I never see him again. Stories written and adapted by Aurora Escalante
