- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to episode thirty one of Ravellio for
- 0:13Speaker 1: October thirtieth, twenty twenty five.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'm Amy and I'm Nicole. Just realize this is like
- 0:35Speaker 2: a kind of like our Halloween episode, and it's the
- 0:37Speaker 2: thirty first episode obviously coming out the day before Halloween,
- 0:43Speaker 2: but still got that.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Thirty one spooky vibes.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Spooky vibes, which you know are my favorite kind of vibes.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Nicol is in her element in her Slytherin sweatshirt.
- 0:55Speaker 2: My Slytherin top right. Yeah, I know for those of
- 0:58Speaker 2: you that can't see or don't look at our or
- 1:00Speaker 2: like when we post our reels online of you know,
- 1:03Speaker 2: us recording. I wear Pair I Wear, which is the
- 1:08Speaker 2: glasses company where you can get like the magnetic top
- 1:10Speaker 2: frames to change. And I've actually had them for gosh,
- 1:15Speaker 2: like I think like three years or something now, and
- 1:17Speaker 2: actually their Harry Potter top frames are one of the
- 1:19Speaker 2: reasons I kind of got into it, And so I'm
- 1:22Speaker 2: wearing my Slytherin top frames today that are one of
- 1:24Speaker 2: the first that I got. Totally not sponsored, but Pair.
- 1:27Speaker 2: If you happen to hear this, my name is I
- 1:32Speaker 2: was gonna say I'm really active in the Facebook group.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It's me and if you want to sponsor us or
- 1:39Speaker 2: you know, we can promote you like what you know,
- 1:42Speaker 2: you know where to find me and the Pair Family
- 1:44Speaker 2: Facebook group. Yeah, I mean they have a whole Harry
- 1:48Speaker 2: Potter line of toppers, Like we could totally have a
- 1:51Speaker 2: mutual relationship here. So but yeah, so I am all
- 1:54Speaker 2: Slytherin decked out today because you know those Slytherins and
- 1:58Speaker 2: spooky vibes go hand in hand. And speaking of spooky vibes,
- 2:05Speaker 2: because this is obviously our episode coming out right before Halloween,
- 2:08Speaker 2: we of course needed to do a spooky kind of topic,
- 2:14Speaker 2: and so we're going to be discussing ghosts and hauntings
- 2:18Speaker 2: in the Wizarding World. But first listening to w W
- 2:28Speaker 2: in the Wizarding Wireless Network.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Now for the latest headlines.
- 2:33Speaker 2: So since our last recording, there has been some things
- 2:37Speaker 2: that have happened. We have got some more casting announcements
- 2:42Speaker 2: for the Harry Potter the full cast audio editions. So
- 2:47Speaker 2: Bill Nyie is returning to the Wizarding World, but this
- 2:51Speaker 2: time he will be voicing Professor Sloghorn. So if you're
- 2:56Speaker 2: unfamiliar Bill Nyie, played scrimgr in the films, and he
- 3:02Speaker 2: actually had something to say about his return to the
- 3:05Speaker 2: Wizarding World. So Bill said, I was pleased to be
- 3:08Speaker 2: asked to play the Professor after having already played a
- 3:11Speaker 2: minister for magic. Is it possible that I'm the only
- 3:14Speaker 2: actor who can claim that achievement. It means that my
- 3:18Speaker 2: career continues to have meaning for the next couple of generations.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I'm always grateful when asked to play academics, having not
- 3:25Speaker 2: been further educated myself. I'm hoping to be a significant
- 3:29Speaker 2: part of something that will keep children entertained in the
- 3:31Speaker 2: car on those long journeys overseas or just on the
- 3:34Speaker 2: way to school. Cool, very nice. It will definitely be
- 3:41Speaker 2: interesting to like hear like when we have these, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 2: people that return to the Wizarding World, but in a
- 3:45Speaker 2: different role, like having to kind of separate, like hearing
- 3:48Speaker 2: that voice for like somebody else.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I always think of his like opening monologue in Deathly Hallows.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yes, it can always very very iconic. And so we
- 4:03Speaker 2: actually have someone else returning to the whizzing world. So
- 4:07Speaker 2: David Holmes, who was a lead stunt double in the
- 4:09Speaker 2: Harry Potter films, will be voicing Stan shun Pike, and
- 4:15Speaker 2: David also had something to say about his return to
- 4:18Speaker 2: the Wizing world. He said, I'm beyond thrilled and honored
- 4:21Speaker 2: to be voicing Stan shun Pike and the forthcoming Potter
- 4:24Speaker 2: More and audible Harry Potter full cast audiobook. Being a
- 4:28Speaker 2: part of this is very much full circle for me,
- 4:31Speaker 2: considering I was the Harry stunt double inside the night
- 4:34Speaker 2: bus as it was whizzing through the streets of London
- 4:37Speaker 2: on the Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban movie. I hope
- 4:41Speaker 2: everybody enjoys my performance and both old or new audiences
- 4:44Speaker 2: will connect with these magical stories. Tickets please.
- 4:50Speaker 1: That's cool, yes, especially because like he's a stunt double,
- 4:54Speaker 1: so like I'm not so familiar with Like did he
- 4:58Speaker 1: do any like kind of acting work after.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I'm not sure. He was Also the there's a really
- 5:05Speaker 2: good documentary that Dan did with him, and he unfortunately
- 5:11Speaker 2: did have an accident on the set of I believe
- 5:16Speaker 2: it was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and unfortunately
- 5:20Speaker 2: it did lead to him becoming paralyzed, and so there's, yeah,
- 5:25Speaker 2: there's a really good documentary out there with him and
- 5:31Speaker 2: Dan so yeah, I don't know if like before that,
- 5:36Speaker 2: if he ever did you know, if he only did ston't.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Work, or if now he's branching out because obviously you
- 5:44Speaker 1: can't do stunts now but can still do things in
- 5:48Speaker 1: in the Yeah. Yeah, well that's really cool.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I was, Yeah, I thought it was really cool to
- 5:53Speaker 2: see this. So then we got a bunch of other
- 5:58Speaker 2: casting announcements, and I am probably going to butcher names,
- 6:01Speaker 2: so I apologize in advance. But yeah, there's a lot. Yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 2: there's a lot of Yeah, there's there's a lot. So
- 6:09Speaker 2: we have Syrsha Monica Jackson who will be voicing Professor Chilawny,
- 6:14Speaker 2: Chope de Ressou who will be voicing Sirius Black Anna,
- 6:20Speaker 2: Maxwell Martin will be voicing Rita Skeeter. Mackenzie Crook will
- 6:24Speaker 2: be voicing Creature. Steven Mangan will be voicing Nearly Headless.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Nick Tracy and Oberman will be voicing Madam Hooch. Millie
- 6:36Speaker 2: Guvey will be voicing Luna love Good, Jude Farrant or
- 6:41Speaker 2: Farrant will be voicing Draco Malfoy and Audiobooks one through three,
- 6:45Speaker 2: and then Maximus Evans will be continuing the role of
- 6:48Speaker 2: Draco and audiobooks four through seven. So like our you know,
- 6:52Speaker 2: the trio, we're gonna have different actors playing them younger
- 6:55Speaker 2: and then older. Similarly, we have Jake Sigsworth who be
- 7:00Speaker 2: voicing Nevell long Bottom in one through three audiobooks, and
- 7:03Speaker 2: then Archie Mountain continuing that role of Neville in audiobooks
- 7:07Speaker 2: four through seven. So a lot more casting announcements we
- 7:12Speaker 2: still have. I mean, I think a lot of like
- 7:14Speaker 2: cast to kind of you know, I don't know if
- 7:15Speaker 2: they'll continue to announce like every single you know, character
- 7:19Speaker 2: that comes in, but yeah, exciting. I mean, we're really
- 7:24Speaker 2: close to the debut of the debut of the first book,
- 7:29Speaker 2: so you just a reminder, Yeah that, uh, Harry Potter
- 7:32Speaker 2: and the Sorcerer slash Philosopher's Stone comes out on November fourth,
- 7:38Speaker 2: and there's actually going to be an exclusive preview listening
- 7:41Speaker 2: of that happening on Monday, November three at three pm
- 7:45Speaker 2: Pacific or six pm Eastern. For this. I got an
- 7:49Speaker 2: email from Audible about it and I RSVP because why not.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I just gotta want to see what it is. But
- 7:55Speaker 2: you can RSVP for this at HP Exclusive Listening Preview
- 7:59Speaker 2: dot hm hm So on November third. I guess we'll see,
- 8:03Speaker 2: we'll see what it is. But yeah, we're super close
- 8:06Speaker 2: to this being released, you all know. I'm super excited.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I already have one through three pre ordered with my
- 8:15Speaker 2: you know my every month my audible credits are going
- 8:18Speaker 2: towards pre ordering these, So we are very close to
- 8:22Speaker 2: it coming out. So I mean, and amy with you
- 8:26Speaker 2: if you want, we can totally listen to it on
- 8:29Speaker 2: our drive down to New York City in November to
- 8:32Speaker 2: see Time Child. Yes, yes, yeah, I mean, I know
- 8:35Speaker 2: we usually listen to Tailor, but maybe we'll take a
- 8:37Speaker 2: break from Tailor listen to the audiobook.
- 8:41Speaker 1: We'll put both on at the same time.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Right at that sounds like yeah, but yeah, So definitely
- 8:48Speaker 2: pre order if you haven't and you're interested in you know,
- 8:50Speaker 2: in listening, but really excited to see you know, more
- 8:54Speaker 2: people join what has already become, you know, as we know,
- 8:56Speaker 2: a very like star studded cast. So and.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yes, so some.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Other things that have come out regarding Epic Universe. So
- 9:06Speaker 2: park Hopper and multi multi day tickets are coming to
- 9:09Speaker 2: Epic Universe in twenty twenty six. So this is citing
- 9:14Speaker 2: right now, Like you can only buy tickets just to
- 9:18Speaker 2: go into Epic for the day you can't like park hop,
- 9:21Speaker 2: so that'll be exciting. Unfortunately, still doesn't look like Epic
- 9:26Speaker 2: Universe will be adding will be added to annual passes
- 9:32Speaker 2: next year. I mean it could happen, but as of
- 9:37Speaker 2: right now, they still have the specially priced single day
- 9:41Speaker 2: tickets for Epic Universe for annual pass holders all the
- 9:44Speaker 2: way through the end of twenty twenty six, which, of
- 9:46Speaker 2: course we all analyze everything and so everybody is like, Okay,
- 9:50Speaker 2: this is basically telling us that we will not see
- 9:52Speaker 2: this added to our annual passes last year.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, I'm going in January, and I was
- 9:59Speaker 1: so hoping because I was supposed to renew in December.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I was just really hoping it would get at.
- 10:05Speaker 2: It, I know. And I remember like when I saw
- 10:08Speaker 2: that like park hoppers and all of that was coming,
- 10:10Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, maybe because I really thought that it
- 10:12Speaker 2: would be this one big announcement right of like, especially
- 10:18Speaker 2: once park hopping came out, I'm like, you know, as
- 10:20Speaker 2: an annual passholder, that's like a perk of being an
- 10:22Speaker 2: annual pass holder is being able to park hop. And
- 10:24Speaker 2: then I just yeah, my hopes and dreams were shattered
- 10:28Speaker 2: when I saw that. You know, it was still if
- 10:31Speaker 2: you're an annual passolder, you still have to buy tickets
- 10:35Speaker 2: for epics. So we'll see, I mean, I could. I mean,
- 10:40Speaker 2: maybe maybe something will happen next year and they'll you know,
- 10:44Speaker 2: there'll be a surprise announcement, or maybe it'll be like
- 10:47Speaker 2: the they'll realize the way tickets are being purchased that
- 10:52Speaker 2: they can add annual pass holders. But we'll see it.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I think now though, that we'll probably not see that
- 10:57Speaker 2: until at least twenty twenty seven. Unfortunately.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I will say though, for people who are in a
- 11:02Speaker 1: boat similar to mine, my plan is to obviously just
- 11:08Speaker 1: purchase the ticket I need for the day I'm going
- 11:11Speaker 1: to be there in January. If they add it, I
- 11:15Speaker 1: can't imagine that they would like refuse to refund people
- 11:19Speaker 1: who are then going to have the pass, you know
- 11:22Speaker 1: what I mean. There's going to be some sort of
- 11:23Speaker 1: deal where you can upgrade your pass or they like
- 11:28Speaker 1: comp that amount of money. I don't know, there should
- 11:30Speaker 1: be something there, and they've been pretty good about that.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Like I know, when Nicole and I initially went in June,
- 11:38Speaker 1: we were trying to purchase tickets for a date that
- 11:42Speaker 1: they didn't have the pass hoolder discount tickets for anymore.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So we bought the regular price ones, and when they
- 11:51Speaker 1: did release more at the discount price, they were really
- 11:53Speaker 1: good about canceling our order and putting the other price
- 11:58Speaker 1: on them. So I'm hoping that something will will be
- 12:05Speaker 1: in place.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I almost wonder if they'll like put yeah to like
- 12:10Speaker 2: put the cost of that ticket towards the upgrade, like
- 12:15Speaker 2: I think about like with Disney, like you can upgrade
- 12:17Speaker 2: your park tickets to an annual pass, and they just
- 12:21Speaker 2: put like what you purchase like towards that annual pass.
- 12:24Speaker 2: It's the same, Yeah, you can upgrade your ticket, So
- 12:28Speaker 2: I could see, like, Okay, you've already you know, paid
- 12:30Speaker 2: this amount, let's just transfer that to whatever your you know,
- 12:33Speaker 2: whatever that difference will be. But we'll see. I'm really
- 12:37Speaker 2: hoping that maybe that happens. I think I'd be really
- 12:42Speaker 2: curious to look at like the numbers of how well
- 12:44Speaker 2: the park is doing or if it's doing it as
- 12:48Speaker 2: busy as they expected it to be, because I think
- 12:50Speaker 2: that's really what controls annual passes, right, because it's like
- 12:55Speaker 2: you want to be able to know how many people
- 12:57Speaker 2: are coming into your park every day, and you can't
- 12:59Speaker 2: really do that with annual passes because they're not buying
- 13:02Speaker 2: tickets in advance. But here's my thing, like, you also
- 13:05Speaker 2: can't do that with park hoppers either, you know what
- 13:07Speaker 2: I mean, you can't, like if it's a three Parks,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I'm assuming you would have to buy like a three
- 13:13Speaker 2: park park copper, and you still can't control like who's
- 13:18Speaker 2: hopping on what days and everything like that. So maybe
- 13:21Speaker 2: this is also like a test for them to see
- 13:24Speaker 2: if they're at a place where they can add annual
- 13:26Speaker 2: pass holder. I don't know, but I think either way,
- 13:31Speaker 2: things are moving in the direction of eventually, you know,
- 13:35Speaker 2: annual passes being added, and I think it'll be fun
- 13:38Speaker 2: to be able to park hop too, like for people
- 13:40Speaker 2: to buy those tickets, because especially if you go like
- 13:45Speaker 2: I think a lot of people do go to Universal,
- 13:47Speaker 2: like just for Harry Potter, And if you wanted to
- 13:52Speaker 2: buy a ticket to go to Epic, and your plan
- 13:54Speaker 2: is really I mean, I don't recommend going to Epic
- 13:56Speaker 2: and only going to Wizarding World. The park is too
- 13:58Speaker 2: cool to not visit the other areas, But if you
- 14:01Speaker 2: really wanted to go and you're like, I'm only here
- 14:03Speaker 2: for Wizarding World, Like you can fill a big chunk
- 14:07Speaker 2: of the day, but like, I don't know if you
- 14:10Speaker 2: really could fill like the entire day for like the
- 14:12Speaker 2: cost of that ticket, like and so it's nice if
- 14:14Speaker 2: you wanted to go one day and hit like all
- 14:16Speaker 2: three Wizarding areas, like that would be really fun. So yeah,
- 14:22Speaker 2: we'll see. But things are changing with the tickets, which
- 14:27Speaker 2: is always a good thing. So and hopefully more people
- 14:30Speaker 2: can go when it's when these other options are added.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And then lastly, we you know, of course, continue to
- 14:39Speaker 2: get a lot of sneak peeks at the filming and
- 14:41Speaker 2: different sets for the HBO Harry Potter TV series, So
- 14:48Speaker 2: lots of photos because they're still doing a lot of
- 14:50Speaker 2: filming and outdoor locations. Of course, once we start transitioning
- 14:53Speaker 2: into like probably when they get to Hogwarts and all
- 14:56Speaker 2: that kind of stuff, that's when we'll stop seeing these
- 14:59Speaker 2: leaks because they'll the inside. So definitely soaking up what
- 15:02Speaker 2: we can get, you know, for now, but I've seen
- 15:06Speaker 2: some photos floating around of what looks like a diagon
- 15:09Speaker 2: alley set that they're building. Also they've picked the location
- 15:14Speaker 2: for like Godrick's Hollow and are making some changes around
- 15:17Speaker 2: that that town in the UK to you know, make
- 15:22Speaker 2: it Godrick's Hollow. We also got our first look at
- 15:27Speaker 2: John Lithgow as Elvis Dumbledore, and I was going to
- 15:32Speaker 2: add a photo to the doc and I completely forgot.
- 15:34Speaker 2: But he looks really cool. I think he looks very
- 15:41Speaker 2: book accurate with the very long beer, the half moon glasses.
- 15:47Speaker 1: People are saying it looks very similar to like Richard
- 15:50Speaker 1: Harris's Dumbledore.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yes, which I love because I think Richard Harris like
- 15:55Speaker 2: looked more like a book accurate Dumbledore. But yeah, he's
- 16:00Speaker 2: that his really long beard. I think his beard looks
- 16:02Speaker 2: really good. It looks really like natural. He's got lots
- 16:07Speaker 2: of rings on his fingers and I'm very curious what
- 16:09Speaker 2: all these rings are. He's wearing a really long, like
- 16:15Speaker 2: dark blue cloak that's got some like, I don't want
- 16:21Speaker 2: to say, a florally design. I can't really tell what
- 16:23Speaker 2: the design is, but it looks like it's like a
- 16:25Speaker 2: dark blue. And then underneath he's wearing there's like lots
- 16:33Speaker 2: of maroon and blue. It's very dark in this what
- 16:35Speaker 2: he's wearing in this, it almost his cloak actually looks
- 16:41Speaker 2: very like tapestry, like on the outside and then the
- 16:45Speaker 2: inside almost has like a kind of plattish pattern, Like
- 16:49Speaker 2: I don't know how to explain it. If you're looking
- 16:52Speaker 2: at the picture along with me, you could see what
- 16:54Speaker 2: I mean. But yeah, no, I think he looks really good.
- 16:58Speaker 2: And we've got these pictures of him filming on the
- 17:01Speaker 2: beach and coming through the water. And you know, when
- 17:04Speaker 2: we first got this, I think we were all wondering
- 17:06Speaker 2: what the heck is Doubledore doing on the beach.
- 17:09Speaker 1: He's on a little seaside vacation.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Seaside vacation, Yeah, but then we quickly learned why he's there.
- 17:17Speaker 2: And I'm gonna put a spoiler warning here because if
- 17:21Speaker 2: you want to go into the show completely blind, which
- 17:25Speaker 2: it was funny because I think I said to you,
- 17:27Speaker 2: like after we got we got these photos, I'm like, man,
- 17:30Speaker 2: how cool would it be to like go into the
- 17:32Speaker 2: show and like not know that this is coming. But
- 17:36Speaker 2: at the same time, now with the Internet and everything,
- 17:39Speaker 2: it's so hard to avoid spoilers here unless you're just
- 17:44Speaker 2: not on social media. And also, like, we are so
- 17:47Speaker 2: excited and we like want to talk about it too.
- 17:49Speaker 2: And we feel like an obligation as podcasters to like
- 17:53Speaker 2: see these things and talk about these things. So I
- 17:55Speaker 2: think unfortunately, but spoiler warning for like prop the next
- 18:00Speaker 2: couple of minutes here. But yes, so we learned that
- 18:07Speaker 2: he's on the beach because he is meeting the Flamel's.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Mm hmm, and not just Nicholas, but is there too, Yes,
- 18:20Speaker 1: And so I'm guessing this is probably you know, we're
- 18:22Speaker 1: going to see Dumbledore operate to this beach and they
- 18:26Speaker 1: meet on the cliffs.
- 18:28Speaker 2: And I think the biggest thing, like as excited as
- 18:31Speaker 2: I was to see, like, oh my god, we're going
- 18:33Speaker 2: to see Nicholas Willmel. And obviously we're you know, we
- 18:35Speaker 2: can speculate, right, we're going to get the scene where
- 18:38Speaker 2: Nicholas will Mel gives Dumbledore the stone and you know,
- 18:41Speaker 2: passes it over to him. But I think what's even
- 18:44Speaker 2: more exciting about this is just you know, I think
- 18:47Speaker 2: we speculated that with the TV show, right, You've got
- 18:50Speaker 2: all this extra time, and yes, we're going to see
- 18:53Speaker 2: things in the book that we didn't get to see,
- 18:55Speaker 2: or see things from the book that we didn't get
- 18:57Speaker 2: to see in the films, but you also have even
- 19:00Speaker 2: more time than that, and having a TV show also
- 19:03Speaker 2: allows us to see scenes that we know happened but
- 19:09Speaker 2: maybe weren't directly in the book, because obviously the books
- 19:11Speaker 2: are through Harry's perspective, right, But now we'll get to
- 19:14Speaker 2: see things even more so outside of Harry's perspective, even
- 19:19Speaker 2: more than we got to see in the films. And
- 19:21Speaker 2: so this to me is just confirmation that, like, we're
- 19:24Speaker 2: going to get those scenes of things that we know happened,
- 19:29Speaker 2: but we didn't get to see a little bit of
- 19:31Speaker 2: time travel if you will too, uh, with maybe some
- 19:35Speaker 2: potential flashbacks and stuff.
- 19:37Speaker 1: But yeah, and this is such an interesting storyline to
- 19:42Speaker 1: explore too, like just how the Flamel's navigate this whole thing,
- 19:49Speaker 1: because I mean we learn at the end of the
- 19:52Speaker 1: Sorcerer's Stone obviously they're going to die, right and after
- 19:56Speaker 1: living this very long life. You know, I'm curious if
- 20:01Speaker 1: they'll include that scene in that conversation of Okay, well,
- 20:08Speaker 1: we'll get our affairs in order and that's that. Like,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I just think that's super interesting. There's so many cool
- 20:17Speaker 1: things that there's a potential to see now, and I'm
- 20:21Speaker 1: even more excited.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think we also got sneak peeks at
- 20:29Speaker 2: another thing that would be something we didn't really see
- 20:32Speaker 2: in the book. There's some photos that look like they
- 20:36Speaker 2: are Godich's Hollow on Halloween night obviously though that's back
- 20:43Speaker 2: in nineteen eighty one like that, Like you know, there's
- 20:46Speaker 2: so there's photos of children and costumes. There's a photo
- 20:51Speaker 2: that potentially could be James and Lily like walking in
- 20:55Speaker 2: this like like walking home. Maybe they could just be
- 20:59Speaker 2: a Muggle couple.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Two.
- 20:59Speaker 2: We really don't know because we haven't seen like who's
- 21:02Speaker 2: been cast. But there's like just speculation that maybe in
- 21:05Speaker 2: one of the photos we're seeing them walking in the streets.
- 21:08Speaker 2: But again, yeah, this is like I'm you know, are
- 21:12Speaker 2: we going to get a flashback scene to you know,
- 21:15Speaker 2: not just I mean we have a little bit of
- 21:17Speaker 2: a flashback, right, like we get that in the film,
- 21:20Speaker 2: we see it, right, but like, are we going to
- 21:24Speaker 2: get like more like even more of a flashback of
- 21:28Speaker 2: it than we got in the films? I mean possible?
- 21:32Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, we are right because we didn't see
- 21:34Speaker 2: what was going on in Godric's Hollow while unfortunately this
- 21:39Speaker 2: traumatic thing was happening in the house. So yeah, that's
- 21:44Speaker 2: I'm excited to see like what they do with that,
- 21:46Speaker 2: and if they expand on that scene a little bit more.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I would like to see the aftermath. I would like
- 21:53Speaker 1: to see Hagrid showing up and rescuing Harry from the rubble.
- 22:00Speaker 1: That's something that we've never really gotten to see, like
- 22:06Speaker 1: what is the aftermath because obviously the Muggle neighbors would
- 22:10Speaker 1: have to know that something happened, right they would see
- 22:14Speaker 1: a house like burned to the ground basically, So what's
- 22:19Speaker 1: the cover up? How do they clean this up?
- 22:24Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah, so yeah, I'm really excited to see.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I think if anything, the photos definitely show us that
- 22:31Speaker 2: the scene we're going to get of that is going
- 22:33Speaker 2: to be at least it's not going to be like,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you know, copy paste of obviously what we saw in
- 22:39Speaker 2: the films, because we're going to get a little bit
- 22:41Speaker 2: of a look at the town. Yeah. And then there's
- 22:49Speaker 2: there's also just some other random photos and videos of
- 22:51Speaker 2: like wizards like pointing ones in the air. There's this
- 22:56Speaker 2: one photo of this wizard like he looks like he's
- 22:59Speaker 2: sitting on top of or rooftop like pointing a wand
- 23:02Speaker 2: in the air. There's this other video that looks like
- 23:06Speaker 2: there's I think possibly like a witch like in the
- 23:08Speaker 2: street pointing a wand in the air. And so I
- 23:11Speaker 2: mean I still think that these might all still be
- 23:13Speaker 2: related to like possibly like the celebration of Baltimore being
- 23:16Speaker 2: defeated and just seeing how that shooting off fireworks and stuff. Yeah,
- 23:22Speaker 2: but yeah, lots of just lots of witches and wizards
- 23:25Speaker 2: just out there pointing their wands around, you know.
- 23:30Speaker 1: As they do, no regard for the rules.
- 23:36Speaker 2: No regard for the rules, no, because they're just so excited, right.
- 23:40Speaker 2: But yeah, so either way, I mean, I just yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 2: I mean, I just continue to be excited for the show.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And I think that it's I hope that we continue
- 23:56Speaker 2: to get these additional scenes and everything, because that just
- 24:01Speaker 2: I think that just helps solidify like a like, not
- 24:07Speaker 2: that we needed to make this, because I don't think
- 24:09Speaker 2: we needed to make this, but just in differentiating it
- 24:13Speaker 2: and making it really stand on its own from the films.
- 24:20Speaker 2: And I think I was starting to think about too,
- 24:23Speaker 2: like another way that you can also look at it
- 24:26Speaker 2: of you know, how how do how do both of
- 24:29Speaker 2: these things exist in this is that the films can
- 24:33Speaker 2: really be like you're nostalgic quick Harry Potter fix. Right, Like,
- 24:38Speaker 2: if you want to quick Harry Potter fix, you pop
- 24:40Speaker 2: on the movie. It's over in two hours, right, versus
- 24:44Speaker 2: like with the show. The show is like a bigger
- 24:47Speaker 2: time commitment, right, unless you decide to just pop on
- 24:49Speaker 2: an episode or something like that. Like I kind of
- 24:52Speaker 2: was thinking about that the other day that it's like,
- 24:54Speaker 2: I think that's how they can kind of both exist
- 24:56Speaker 2: for me, Right, I think that I'm still going to
- 24:59Speaker 2: keep rewatching the films in the same way that I do,
- 25:01Speaker 2: or I'm doing housework right and I pop on Chamber
- 25:03Speaker 2: of Secrets or something like that. I think that that
- 25:06Speaker 2: won't end for me just because we have the TV show.
- 25:13Speaker 2: But yeah, exciting things. So definitely, you know on Well's
- 25:20Speaker 2: on Instagram, if you you know polgro On on Instagram, you
- 25:23Speaker 2: can kind of find all these photos. But yeah, that's
- 25:28Speaker 2: kind of the main things that have happened since we
- 25:30Speaker 2: last recorded.
- 25:35Speaker 1: This episode's main discussion contains some sensitive topics surrounding death.
- 25:40Speaker 1: If you prefer to skip over today's main discussion, fast
- 25:43Speaker 1: forward to the one hour and twenty one minute mark.
- 25:47Speaker 1: So for our main discussion, we're getting extra spooky, and
- 25:52Speaker 1: we're talking about ghosts and hauntings, so little recap of
- 25:59Speaker 1: ghosts in the Harry Potter universe. We have this excellent
- 26:03Speaker 1: quote of how they are an imprint of a departed soul.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Of course, we have that moment where you know, Harry's
- 26:11Speaker 1: joking about it and he's like, you know you're not
- 26:14Speaker 1: gonna ask someone, excuse me, are you an imprint of
- 26:16Speaker 1: a departed soul? So everyone can remember that line. So
- 26:25Speaker 1: this is typically either someone who was afraid of death
- 26:28Speaker 1: or had a particularly strong connection to the location that
- 26:32Speaker 1: they are haunting, so they choose to stick around. They're
- 26:37Speaker 1: grayish silver apparitions that resemble their living selves, and ghosts
- 26:42Speaker 1: in the Wizarding World take on the form of themselves
- 26:45Speaker 1: at the moment of their death. So if wounded, those
- 26:49Speaker 1: wounds are visible as ghosts. If old, they appear that
- 26:54Speaker 1: age as a ghost, so on and so on. They
- 26:58Speaker 1: can pass through solid objects, but they can cause disturbances
- 27:04Speaker 1: to air, water, and fire. They cannot eat. We learn
- 27:12Speaker 1: this at the Death Day party. They can try and
- 27:16Speaker 1: float through the food with their mouths open, but they
- 27:19Speaker 1: can't taste it. Their presence causes the temperature to drop
- 27:25Speaker 1: in their immediate vicinity, So the gathering of many ghosts
- 27:29Speaker 1: can cause this effect to be intensified, and flames in
- 27:33Speaker 1: their vicinity may even turn blue, which is interesting because
- 27:39Speaker 1: usually a blue flame means it's hotter. But you know magic,
- 27:50Speaker 1: muggles cannot become ghosts, nor can they see ghosts clearly,
- 27:55Speaker 1: So muggles who claim to see the dead clearly are
- 27:58Speaker 1: either lying or are really witches or wizards who are
- 28:02Speaker 1: breaking the statute of secrecy.
- 28:05Speaker 2: That's interesting.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so mediums are potentially actually which is their wizards,
- 28:15Speaker 1: I mean that makes sense or fakes yeah or fake yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Animals may have also been able to become ghosts, since
- 28:26Speaker 1: a book called Animal Ghosts of Britain could be found
- 28:29Speaker 1: in the Gryffindor common room on the original Potter More.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I thought that was kind of interesting, which we'll get
- 28:38Speaker 1: into more, because we don't really know much about the
- 28:40Speaker 1: magic that lets you become a ghost, so like.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Well, and I think earlier too, well, yeah, and I
- 28:48Speaker 2: was thinking earlier, like when you mentioned that kind of
- 28:51Speaker 2: like what causes someone to become a ghost in the
- 28:55Speaker 2: wizard world, as you know, being afraid of death or
- 28:57Speaker 2: having a strong connection to the location they're haunting. I
- 29:00Speaker 2: feel like for an animal like maybe that ladder part,
- 29:04Speaker 2: Like I don't know if like animals like can fear
- 29:11Speaker 2: death in the way that humans can because of just
- 29:13Speaker 2: the way that we like have extension exit with the
- 29:16Speaker 2: ex Oh my god, I can't say the word thoughts.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Oh my god, I can't say it. Okay, you know
- 29:22Speaker 2: what I'm trying. There we go, There we go today
- 29:24Speaker 2: if words are hard on the Saturday, yes, those thoughts.
- 29:30Speaker 2: But I could see like a pet having like a
- 29:32Speaker 2: strong connection to like where they are, or if they've
- 29:36Speaker 2: like I think in the Wizarding World, think of like
- 29:40Speaker 2: I mean kind of thinking of our last episode, right,
- 29:42Speaker 2: You've got some of these great Wizarding families that have
- 29:47Speaker 2: these dwellings that pass on in their family. Or you
- 29:50Speaker 2: think about like the Black family house, right, the Malfoy
- 29:53Speaker 2: manor like, and if you have pets that are there,
- 29:55Speaker 2: and if they've lived their whole life there and it's
- 29:57Speaker 2: like it's just become, you know, the only place they've
- 30:04Speaker 2: ever known and developing a strong attachment, I could see
- 30:08Speaker 2: that maybe that may be happening just pictured all these
- 30:12Speaker 2: like ghost dogs running around like Malfoy manner or cats. No,
- 30:21Speaker 2: I think the mouthwas cat people probably.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Yeah. So obviously the ghosts that we see the most
- 30:31Speaker 1: of in Harry Potter are the Hogwarts ghosts, and Hogwarts
- 30:37Speaker 1: is considered the most haunted dwelling in Great Britain, which
- 30:41Speaker 1: is interesting. So I mean, we know we have the
- 30:45Speaker 1: four house ghosts, but there's also more in the castle.
- 30:50Speaker 2: So yeah, how did their like have that many people
- 30:55Speaker 2: like died at Hogwarts or like is it that they
- 30:59Speaker 2: die and like, I like really had such an affinity
- 31:03Speaker 2: for my time in school at Hogwarts, so that's where
- 31:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna go, which maybe.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Yeah, or it just being like this place where there
- 31:14Speaker 1: is so much magic and magical people gathering there.
- 31:19Speaker 2: And a large community of ghosts like uh m hm,
- 31:23Speaker 2: And I think it's I think too if if in
- 31:26Speaker 2: you know, the world of the Wizarding World, if the
- 31:29Speaker 2: only people that can see and interact with ghosts are
- 31:31Speaker 2: witches and wizards. As a ghost, like, I think I
- 31:35Speaker 2: would also want to be someplace where people like recognize
- 31:38Speaker 2: me and can interact with me. Yeah.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Yeah, so each Hogwarts house does have a ghost and
- 31:49Speaker 1: is kind of unclear when there was a decision to
- 31:53Speaker 1: like assign ghosts to a house, or if there were
- 31:57Speaker 1: ever ghosts in the roles before the four that we
- 31:59Speaker 1: know of, because the ones that we know of died
- 32:04Speaker 1: well after Hogwarts was founded, so there could have been
- 32:09Speaker 1: more before them. Where did those ghosts go? Right?
- 32:13Speaker 2: Because like their ghosts, so it's not like they died
- 32:16Speaker 2: and left their position. They retired, I don't know, retired
- 32:21Speaker 2: and went to a different ghost community.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I can't listen to these kids anymore. I got to
- 32:26Speaker 1: get out here.
- 32:29Speaker 2: After like two hundred years. It's enough.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So we have the Gryffindor ghost, which we
- 32:39Speaker 1: know is nearly headless. Nick His name and life was
- 32:43Speaker 1: Sir Nicholas Demmsi Porpington, and he was a member of
- 32:48Speaker 1: King Henry the seventh Court. So, according to writings by JK. Rowling,
- 32:56Speaker 1: he was a bit of a snob and not really
- 32:58Speaker 1: as accomplished at magic as he would have liked to
- 33:01Speaker 1: have believed, and it was that incompetency that kind of
- 33:05Speaker 1: fled to his beheading. He tried to magically beautify a
- 33:11Speaker 1: lady in waiting, with quite disastrous results. She ended up
- 33:15Speaker 1: sprouting tusks, and Sir Nicholas was executed on October thirty first,
- 33:22Speaker 1: fourteen ninety two by beheading. Of course, we know that
- 33:27Speaker 1: wasn't really successful. He was hit in the neck forty
- 33:31Speaker 1: five times with a blunt axe, which never completely severed
- 33:35Speaker 1: his head from his body, something that he's very hung
- 33:40Speaker 1: up on as a ghost, which is also something that
- 33:51Speaker 1: the Potomoor writings about ghosts kind of goes into is
- 33:56Speaker 1: as a ghost, right, you don't have a ton of
- 34:00Speaker 1: stuff you have to worry about, the things that probably
- 34:06Speaker 1: shouldn't be dwelt on quite so much become your infatuation
- 34:11Speaker 1: because he got nothing else to do other than just
- 34:13Speaker 1: dwell at him. So for Nick, that is his inability
- 34:19Speaker 1: to be really actually headless.
- 34:24Speaker 2: I mean, I think that he should think about it
- 34:25Speaker 2: more about like, dang, why am I so special that
- 34:29Speaker 2: forty five times hitting my neck did not completely sop
- 34:32Speaker 2: my head? He should be looking at it in a
- 34:35Speaker 2: positive way.
- 34:37Speaker 1: He should, we should tell him so. The Hufflepuff ghost
- 34:45Speaker 1: is the fat Friar, and he was executed when senior
- 34:51Speaker 1: churchmen grew suspicious of his ability to cure the pox
- 34:55Speaker 1: by prodding people with a stick, which obviously was his
- 34:59Speaker 1: Wand he also had what JK. Rowling describes as quote
- 35:06Speaker 1: an ill advised habit of pulling rabbits out of the
- 35:10Speaker 1: communion cup bound to raise suspicions, Yeah, for sure, And
- 35:17Speaker 1: he is known to be very genial and happy, but
- 35:19Speaker 1: he does still hold some resentment that he'll never get
- 35:23Speaker 1: to move up the ranks to become cardinal. So that's
- 35:26Speaker 1: his regret that he's dealing with.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Well, maybe he shouldn't have kept pulling the rabbits out
- 35:31Speaker 2: of the cup and drawing attention to himself.
- 35:39Speaker 1: And then, of course raven Claw has the gray Lady
- 35:43Speaker 1: in life. She was Helena Ravenclaw, the daughter of the
- 35:46Speaker 1: Hogwarts founder Rorina Ravenclaw. While she was still Hogwarts age,
- 35:52Speaker 1: she stole her mother's diadem and ran away to Albania.
- 35:57Speaker 1: While she was away, her mother became very and on
- 36:01Speaker 1: her deathbed sent a man who had long had feelings
- 36:04Speaker 1: for Helena to find her and bring her home. The man,
- 36:08Speaker 1: who we find out is the Bloody Baron, murders Helena
- 36:11Speaker 1: when she refuses to return home with him. So he's
- 36:16Speaker 1: got some issues.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I mean. And then the fact that she still can't
- 36:22Speaker 2: escape him even in death. Mm hmm.
- 36:27Speaker 1: But uh yeah, yeah, which I mean, could they have
- 36:34Speaker 1: chosen to go somewhere other than Hogwarts, Like I always
- 36:39Speaker 1: wonder like why did they both go to Hogwarts?
- 36:42Speaker 2: Like well, because it's like, well because right, because I
- 36:44Speaker 2: think that was like what I was thinking earlier about, Yeah,
- 36:47Speaker 2: why is there so many like why do they all
- 36:49Speaker 2: go there? Because obviously and like other media forms, right
- 36:58Speaker 2: that involve ghosts and stuff like that, Like typically, like
- 37:02Speaker 2: the reason why you have ghosts haunting a place is
- 37:05Speaker 2: not because they chose to go there or chose to
- 37:10Speaker 2: stay there. It's more like they died in that house
- 37:15Speaker 2: or were murdered in that house or something and they're
- 37:19Speaker 2: unable to leave or I think about there's a lot
- 37:22Speaker 2: of stories, like in horror films and stuff where there
- 37:25Speaker 2: is like a uh, this isn't the right phrase, but
- 37:32Speaker 2: I can't think of a better way to describe it.
- 37:34Speaker 2: There is a head ghost that is kind of keeping
- 37:38Speaker 2: everybody in that house and they can't escape where it
- 37:42Speaker 2: seems like in the Wizarding World, ghosts have a lot
- 37:46Speaker 2: of autonomy over whether they become a ghost and where
- 37:51Speaker 2: they go as a ghost, which is very different than
- 37:53Speaker 2: we typically see. So like, yeah, why does everybody just
- 37:57Speaker 2: gravitate towards Hogwarts? And like why wouldn't necessarily like the
- 38:04Speaker 2: Gray Lady like also want to go to Hogwarts with
- 38:08Speaker 2: the person who murdered her. Like, it's very interesting.
- 38:12Speaker 1: The vibes I kind of get from the Gray Lady though,
- 38:15Speaker 1: like in the book, is she kind of enjoys like
- 38:21Speaker 1: being in the same place as the Bloody Baron and
- 38:23Speaker 1: that like he has to see her and what he
- 38:26Speaker 1: did to her every single day, you know, get like
- 38:31Speaker 1: it's really.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Anything, because yeah, I would do the same. Mm hmmm.
- 38:37Speaker 2: I would be like, well you especially if that if
- 38:40Speaker 2: like the Bloody Baron like feels any kind of like
- 38:45Speaker 2: remorse for it.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Well, like just said like he has to wear chains now,
- 38:52Speaker 1: right right, and we're.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Gonna talk a little bit more about him and his
- 38:55Speaker 2: remorse and how that directly ties to why he's dead.
- 38:59Speaker 2: But I think, yeah, so I think i'd be petty
- 39:01Speaker 2: just like her. M h I think of I think
- 39:08Speaker 2: of Silver Springs, the song you Know You'll Never get
- 39:13Speaker 2: away from the Woman that let Us Go. It's the
- 39:16Speaker 2: lyrics God Stevie. I hear her in my head and
- 39:19Speaker 2: I can't think of the exactly like You'll never get
- 39:22Speaker 2: away from the sound of the woman who loves you
- 39:24Speaker 2: you know, like that is that is this song personify? Yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 2: it is Stevie Nix and lindsay, what's his name, Buckingham,
- 39:33Speaker 2: that's his last name in in wizarding form. That could
- 39:41Speaker 2: be a good video idea. I wish we had. I
- 39:43Speaker 2: wish we had more content of the two of them,
- 39:46Speaker 2: and then you could like overlay that song of like
- 39:48Speaker 2: her saying you know, I like her, I like her
- 39:53Speaker 2: and I like her pettiness and.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So so the Bloody Baron a little bit
- 40:02Speaker 1: more about him. He had long been enraptured with Helena.
- 40:09Speaker 1: They were both at Hogwarts together. That's kind of when
- 40:12Speaker 1: he fell for But this really turned into an obsession,
- 40:17Speaker 1: which is what led him to murder her when she
- 40:21Speaker 1: refused him for the last time, and then, in his
- 40:24Speaker 1: remorse when he realized what he did, he committed suicide
- 40:29Speaker 1: with the same knife that he used to take her life,
- 40:33Speaker 1: and they both returned to Hogwarts as ghosts. The Baron
- 40:38Speaker 1: wears chains as a sign of his penance. As the
- 40:41Speaker 1: Gray Lady tells Harry, I think that's kind of interesting
- 40:48Speaker 1: because we know that ghosts in the Wizarding World usually
- 40:52Speaker 1: appear how they were at the time of their death,
- 40:55Speaker 1: so like this added accessory after death is kind of
- 41:01Speaker 1: I don't know how that works, but.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Yeah, right, Like how did the chains become ghost?
- 41:08Speaker 1: Like mm hmmm, how do you summon ghost chains? Because
- 41:14Speaker 1: he couldn't wear real chains because they.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Would go right there touch them, they would just yeah,
- 41:19Speaker 2: they would just fall through. Huh.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Little little plot hole there.
- 41:25Speaker 2: I was just thinking though about how like actually kind
- 41:29Speaker 2: of traumatizing that is that they appear as they did
- 41:33Speaker 2: at the time of their death. Because I mean, obviously
- 41:38Speaker 2: when we see like when we see the bloody baron
- 41:41Speaker 2: and we see the gray lady like in the films,
- 41:45Speaker 2: like she's like beautiful and in a dress and like,
- 41:49Speaker 2: you like, it's not like I mean, I guess I
- 41:52Speaker 2: don't know where her stabs were, but like it's not
- 41:55Speaker 2: like you see that, you know, per se. But I
- 41:58Speaker 2: was just thinking about, like, man like people that die
- 42:01Speaker 2: in not great ways, like kind of like nearly headless
- 42:04Speaker 2: nick with you know, being like beheaded and the fact
- 42:08Speaker 2: that he can show you it and everything like that,
- 42:10Speaker 2: and this obviously had you know, murder and stuff like that,
- 42:16Speaker 2: and manhow traumatizing some of these ghosts could look if
- 42:19Speaker 2: they if they died in a more traumatic way.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Which is so interesting because like the way ghosts are
- 42:25Speaker 1: presented to us in the Harry Potter books, they're not scary.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Not at all, and even headless neck right, even when
- 42:33Speaker 2: he like is like, let me show you my party
- 42:35Speaker 2: trick where I can take my head, it's still it's funny.
- 42:37Speaker 2: It's not scary. But when you but when you look
- 42:40Speaker 2: at their story like the Gray Lady and the Bloody Bar,
- 42:42Speaker 2: and it's actually pretty.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Like it's really messed up and dark and pretty gruesome. Right,
- 42:48Speaker 1: it's so interesting that, like, I mean, it just shows
- 42:53Speaker 1: how the books progressed right from children's books of like, oh,
- 42:57Speaker 1: isn't this cute and funny? Like each house has a
- 42:59Speaker 1: Hogwards ghosts and they.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Float there enter the table, was laughing at all the
- 43:04Speaker 2: hupp kids.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, And then you get to book seven and
- 43:10Speaker 1: you're like, oh, obsessed man killed woman who didn't want
- 43:17Speaker 1: him and then killed himself and ready to hear they are.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Yeah yeah mm hmmm, yeah, Well they're my two favorite ghosts.
- 43:34Speaker 2: So I don't know, like I uh yeah mm hmm. Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Well but on a more like you know, wholesome note,
- 43:51Speaker 1: we have Professor Binns.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:58Speaker 1: So obviously there's the four ghost, but there are additional
- 44:01Speaker 1: ones at Hogwarts, and one of those ones that we
- 44:04Speaker 1: know of is Cuthbert Bins, who teaches history of magic.
- 44:09Speaker 1: And I mean he'll presumably like just never retire because
- 44:15Speaker 1: death isn't keeping him from his.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Job, So what else is he going to do? Like,
- 44:19Speaker 2: what else is he gonna do?
- 44:21Speaker 1: Right, He's got all the time in the world now,
- 44:26Speaker 1: So we know Professor Binns died in his sleep in
- 44:29Speaker 1: a chair in the staff room and then just like
- 44:32Speaker 1: got up and went to go teach his lesson, left
- 44:35Speaker 1: his body behind in the chair. It's never really said
- 44:40Speaker 1: whether or not he even realizes he's a ghost. He
- 44:42Speaker 1: just kind of carries on with how he was in life.
- 44:47Speaker 1: But he does enter the class through the blackboards, so
- 44:51Speaker 1: I would say he's probably aware that something's not quite right.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Right, Like I can walk through this object and it
- 44:59Speaker 2: doesn't smack me in the Yeah, yeah, he's I'm so
- 45:04Speaker 2: excited to get you know, Professor Binns in the TV show.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I think that like that's such a really sad that
- 45:13Speaker 2: we didn't get, you know, obviously, I mean it makes
- 45:15Speaker 2: sense why we didn't get some of these ghosts in
- 45:17Speaker 2: the films because I'm sure, especially from a uh CGI
- 45:20Speaker 2: and budgeting perspective, like there's a lot that goes into that.
- 45:23Speaker 2: And so I'm excited that we'll get to see this
- 45:28Speaker 2: in the TV show because Yeah, I think it's I
- 45:30Speaker 2: think it's hilarious and I think that it's funny. Because JK.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Rowling had shared in the original Potomore writings a little
- 45:42Speaker 2: bit about her inspiration for Professor Bins, which was an
- 45:46Speaker 2: old professor that she had at university who would give
- 45:50Speaker 2: every lecture with his eyes closed and kind of just
- 45:53Speaker 2: rock back and forth slightly on his toes, and she
- 45:57Speaker 2: also shared in that Potomore writing that you know, this
- 46:01Speaker 2: professor he gave a lot of valuable information during his lectures,
- 46:05Speaker 2: but he just was largely disconnected from his students, which
- 46:08Speaker 2: is exactly how we see with Professor Binn's right. It's
- 46:11Speaker 2: like Professor Binn just goes in he lectures almost completely
- 46:15Speaker 2: unaware that he's actually teaching a class and their students there,
- 46:19Speaker 2: and then just seems very surprised when they start asking
- 46:21Speaker 2: him questions. And I think we I also wonder, you know,
- 46:24Speaker 2: we question whether he knows if he's a ghost. I
- 46:26Speaker 2: think he also like doesn't realize that like he's teaching
- 46:30Speaker 2: the living students either, And it's like wait what Like
- 46:32Speaker 2: it's just it's such a very interesting dynamic with him.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I love it.
- 46:41Speaker 2: I think yes, and only at Hogwarts, right, would you
- 46:44Speaker 2: have one of your professors be like a literal ghost?
- 46:48Speaker 1: Like how does that work salary wise? Like, I mean
- 46:52Speaker 1: do they still pay him? He can't really do anything
- 46:54Speaker 1: with the money, right, Like he doesn't need the money.
- 46:58Speaker 2: He's it helps them save their budget. Yeah, he's not volunteering.
- 47:05Speaker 1: It's like the opposite of the Defense against the Dark
- 47:07Speaker 1: Arts post. They will never have to fill the history
- 47:10Speaker 1: of magic job.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Even if they want to get rid of him again,
- 47:14Speaker 2: it's like it's like what we were talking about earlier
- 47:16Speaker 2: when the house ghosts, right, Like what was the application
- 47:18Speaker 2: process for that? Like what what what if something happens
- 47:23Speaker 2: and you want to fire them and get rid of them?
- 47:25Speaker 2: Like what like what like yeah, what if what if
- 47:30Speaker 2: they needed to like put him on like disciplinary action
- 47:34Speaker 2: or something and like fire him like he's dead, he's
- 47:37Speaker 2: a ghost, Like what are you going to do?
- 47:40Speaker 1: Can you imagine they actually do hire a living teacher
- 47:44Speaker 1: and this poor teacher is trying to give his lesson
- 47:46Speaker 1: and then just Professor Binns flows through the blackboard and
- 47:49Speaker 1: just keeps talking. That was like battle and Professor Binns
- 47:53Speaker 1: is totally unaware.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Yeah, they're a better off just like I mean, I
- 47:59Speaker 2: think to this day, Professor Binson is just there teaching
- 48:02Speaker 2: his his classes. And but like do we think like
- 48:06Speaker 2: does he do like does he ever change his lectures
- 48:09Speaker 2: or is he just teaching the same thing? Like does
- 48:11Speaker 2: he update his lectures? Because obviously now History of Magic
- 48:15Speaker 2: also has like the Battle of Hogwarts and everything, Like
- 48:18Speaker 2: does he even know that happen even though he was there? Like,
- 48:21Speaker 2: like does he did he add that to his lessons plans?
- 48:24Speaker 2: Does he do research to keep up in his field?
- 48:27Speaker 2: Or is he just I got a lot.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Of questions, right, History is always like evolving chapters.
- 48:35Speaker 2: So I don't know if I picture him sitting in
- 48:37Speaker 2: his office like doing additional learning.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Nope, he's still just talking about the Goblin Wars.
- 48:47Speaker 2: You guys don't need to know about anything else. Just
- 48:49Speaker 2: read the book. Just read History of Magic. You've got it.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Oh that's funny. So another ghost Hogwarts that we know
- 49:01Speaker 1: of is of course moaning Myrtle. So, Myrtle Warren was
- 49:07Speaker 1: a student at Hogwarts during Tom Riddle's years at the school,
- 49:11Speaker 1: and when he let the basilisk out the first time,
- 49:14Speaker 1: Myrtle was the one fatality. She died in the girl's bathroom,
- 49:19Speaker 1: which was the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets, and
- 49:22Speaker 1: Myrtle was in the bathroom crying because a classmate, Olive Hornby,
- 49:27Speaker 1: had made fun of her classes. Myrtle decided to stick
- 49:31Speaker 1: around to haunt Olive Hornby as revenge, but the Ministry
- 49:36Speaker 1: stepped in to keep her from harassing her old classmate,
- 49:39Speaker 1: so she came back to Hogwarts.
- 49:43Speaker 2: I want to know like what the ministry did to like,
- 49:46Speaker 2: because like, how do you like Again, it's like the
- 49:48Speaker 2: same thing like with Professor Binns, right, if you need
- 49:51Speaker 2: to give some kind of disciplinary action to somebody, like,
- 49:54Speaker 2: how do you do it when they're dead?
- 49:55Speaker 1: Like, how do you enforce that?
- 49:57Speaker 2: Yeah, how do you enforce it? Like? Well, I think
- 50:02Speaker 2: it's I think what's interesting too about Myrtle is that
- 50:04Speaker 2: she's kind of more like what we typically see with
- 50:08Speaker 2: a ghost, right, like being murdered somewhere and then kind
- 50:11Speaker 2: of you know, obviously, again, she still made the choice
- 50:15Speaker 2: to stick around to you know, obviously kind of get
- 50:17Speaker 2: her revenge on Olive. But also it's it's more of
- 50:21Speaker 2: that traditional story of like this person was murdered in
- 50:24Speaker 2: this place and now they are kind of stuck and
- 50:28Speaker 2: staying where they were murdered.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Right, Like, she doesn't have to live in a toilet.
- 50:33Speaker 1: She could literally go anywhere in the castle. But she's
- 50:37Speaker 1: like yeah, yeah, right right.
- 50:43Speaker 2: I mean obviously, like, well, you know, we see her
- 50:46Speaker 2: like venture out a little bit, like when she decides
- 50:48Speaker 2: to you know, take a little bath with Harry and
- 50:51Speaker 2: the prefect's bath. But yeah, she's she's a fun character
- 51:00Speaker 2: and yeah. JK. Rowling actually shared some inspiration for owning
- 51:05Speaker 2: Myrtle as well in the original Potomer writings, where she
- 51:08Speaker 2: shared that, you know, she was thinking about when she
- 51:13Speaker 2: used to go to parties and discos in her youth
- 51:17Speaker 2: and she'd go into the girl's bed. Yeah, and she
- 51:20Speaker 2: used to go into the girl's bathroom and there was
- 51:22Speaker 2: always a crying girl in the bathroom, And uh that
- 51:27Speaker 2: is true. I mean I feel like I remember like
- 51:30Speaker 2: young when I was younger, and we used to have like, yeah,
- 51:34Speaker 2: you would go to like the roller rank or even
- 51:37Speaker 2: when we used to go to I remember there's a
- 51:43Speaker 2: like a club that was around here that used to
- 51:45Speaker 2: do like eighteen and under nights or whatever.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Like.
- 51:47Speaker 2: There was always a girl crying in the bathroom.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Always in college, Like in the bar you went to
- 51:56Speaker 1: the bathroom, there was inevitably some girl crying always.
- 52:01Speaker 2: And so I completely knew what she was talking about here.
- 52:04Speaker 2: It's a formative experience in life, and yeah, and so
- 52:09Speaker 2: that was her inspiration for Myrtle and having Myrtle moaning
- 52:13Speaker 2: and crying in the bathroom because it, yeah, reminded her
- 52:17Speaker 2: of all the other girls she saw moaning and crying
- 52:20Speaker 2: in the bathroom throughout her younger years. I thought that
- 52:24Speaker 2: was funny, poor Myrtle.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Oh boy. Something I didn't put in the notes. But
- 52:35Speaker 1: also in those same potomore writings, JK. Rowling did mention
- 52:39Speaker 1: a couple ghosts that she originally had written in the
- 52:42Speaker 1: books and then cut out. I thought they were kind
- 52:44Speaker 1: of funny. There's like one Victorian ghost who like was poisoned,
- 52:52Speaker 1: I believe, but he like stands in the Great Hall
- 52:56Speaker 1: entrance and sometimes like stop students from going in because
- 52:59Speaker 1: he's jealou us that they could eat.
- 53:03Speaker 2: That would be like I could see me doing that,
- 53:05Speaker 2: Like I could see me just like floating around in
- 53:08Speaker 2: the Great Hall, just like watching everybody eat this food,
- 53:11Speaker 2: and just like I'm gonna make your life hell because
- 53:14Speaker 2: you can eat that and I can't.
- 53:19Speaker 1: And then there was some toad that like haunts the
- 53:22Speaker 1: classroom and like jumps around and leaves some sort of
- 53:26Speaker 1: like extoplasma.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Okay, that is terrifying. That would scare me more than
- 53:33Speaker 2: any like human.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Ghost ghost toads.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like that. I'm glad that she asked
- 53:41Speaker 2: that one. Yeah, I do think the concept of, like,
- 53:46Speaker 2: you know, including these ghosts and including Hogwarts ghosts and
- 53:49Speaker 2: everything is really fun. And I do like the idea
- 53:55Speaker 2: of like every house having a ghost, Like I think that,
- 53:58Speaker 2: you know, regardless of us not knowing how that tradition started,
- 54:02Speaker 2: but yeah, I think it's fun. Mm hm.
- 54:08Speaker 1: So that kind of brings us to like how to
- 54:12Speaker 1: become a ghost, obviously we talked about earlier. It's kind
- 54:17Speaker 1: of unclear how one actually decides to come back as
- 54:20Speaker 1: a ghost, but we do know from nearly Headless next
- 54:24Speaker 1: conversation with Harry in the Order of the Phoenix that
- 54:27Speaker 1: it is a choice, like it's not like you die
- 54:31Speaker 1: and then boom, you're a ghost. Like there's a choice
- 54:33Speaker 1: that goes into it, which makes Professor Binns even more interesting,
- 54:37Speaker 1: right because that had to be like a subconscious choice
- 54:42Speaker 1: to come back.
- 54:44Speaker 2: And like I have so many questions about that, right
- 54:47Speaker 2: because like, right, exactly that one. How do you make
- 54:51Speaker 2: the choice? Does it have to be this thing where
- 54:53Speaker 2: you verbally say, like at the time of death, like
- 54:56Speaker 2: I wish to become a ghost and then it works
- 54:59Speaker 2: or like obviously, like right, I think about like so
- 55:03Speaker 2: you know me, I like to always compare things to
- 55:05Speaker 2: other media, as other franchises, and I think about Star
- 55:11Speaker 2: Wars in this scenario, right, because for Jedi to come
- 55:15Speaker 2: back as a force ghost, like there's a lot of
- 55:19Speaker 2: you know there we learn about like Qui gon Jin
- 55:24Speaker 2: like is the one he you know, figured out how
- 55:27Speaker 2: to do this and how to come back as a ghost,
- 55:29Speaker 2: and like you have to also like teach others how
- 55:33Speaker 2: to come back as a force ghost. And it's like
- 55:36Speaker 2: you don't just die and come back as a force ghost.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Like there's a process and there's a reason why not
- 55:41Speaker 2: everybody comes back as a force ghost. So like, yeah,
- 55:45Speaker 2: what is the process here was there planning that you
- 55:47Speaker 2: had to do? Like is there? I don't know? And
- 55:53Speaker 2: then it's just like yeah, like how do you make
- 55:55Speaker 2: that choice? And also when do you have to make
- 55:57Speaker 2: that choice? Do you have like a critical window like
- 56:00Speaker 2: you just died and you've got like a minute or
- 56:02Speaker 2: less to make that choice, right, otherwise you lose the
- 56:05Speaker 2: ability to make the choice. I bet you there's some
- 56:10Speaker 2: kind of time requirement there, Like you can't just be
- 56:13Speaker 2: dead for five years and then decide, oh, I want
- 56:15Speaker 2: to become a ghost now, or maybe you can who else?
- 56:22Speaker 2: I mean.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Nearly headless. Nick makes it sound like it is like
- 56:27Speaker 1: an immediate choice because he's like, well, no, like serious,
- 56:32Speaker 1: isn't going to come back? I don't know. He also
- 56:38Speaker 1: says that it's not like a choice the wisest Wizards
- 56:43Speaker 1: make kind of acknowledging that it's not a great choice
- 56:50Speaker 1: and that some who do make that decision to come
- 56:53Speaker 1: back regret it later.
- 56:56Speaker 2: I was gonna say, I mean, there's not a way
- 56:57Speaker 2: to like reverse it once you make it choice.
- 57:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:05Speaker 2: I could see that though, because I think it's like
- 57:07Speaker 2: very similar to like other like how we see ghosts
- 57:12Speaker 2: being portrayed in other media. I mean, rarely is it
- 57:17Speaker 2: ever seen as like a positive thing. And obviously, like
- 57:24Speaker 2: the plot of a lot of stories right about haunted
- 57:28Speaker 2: houses and stuff like that, is trying to like free
- 57:31Speaker 2: the spirits in the house and free the ghosts and
- 57:34Speaker 2: like like.
- 57:34Speaker 1: They're hanging on to something well, and.
- 57:37Speaker 2: It's kind of like, right, if you think about it,
- 57:39Speaker 2: like do you want to for literally the rest of
- 57:45Speaker 2: eternity be stuck in the same place, like not able
- 57:54Speaker 2: to really do anything? That to me kind of sounds
- 57:59Speaker 2: like a little bit of like personal health.
- 58:04Speaker 1: So I really don't have a purpose anymore.
- 58:07Speaker 2: No, And you're like, right, We've got these ghosts right
- 58:09Speaker 2: that are looking at all these kids eating this delicious
- 58:11Speaker 2: food and you remember when you used to be able
- 58:13Speaker 2: to eat food and you can't eat food anymore, and
- 58:17Speaker 2: you're just like right, it's kind of like what are you, Like, yes,
- 58:20Speaker 2: you're still around, but like what are you doing? What
- 58:23Speaker 2: is your purpose? Right? Like you said, you don't really
- 58:25Speaker 2: have one? And to know that like literally that's just
- 58:28Speaker 2: your existence for ever.
- 58:35Speaker 1: It's so interesting too, because because they chose to come
- 58:39Speaker 1: back as a ghost, they really don't know what actually
- 58:45Speaker 1: happens after death, So there could have been a better
- 58:50Speaker 1: door number two, yes, but they were too scared of
- 58:54Speaker 1: what that could be that they chose an imitation of
- 58:58Speaker 1: what they already knew, that of taking the unknown.
- 59:04Speaker 2: But I think I also, like obviously as a human
- 59:08Speaker 2: who like sometimes has like really scary thoughts about the
- 59:14Speaker 2: fact that we all have more tech, like we are
- 59:18Speaker 2: all mortal beings, And I think about that, I can
- 59:22Speaker 2: see where that thought comes to from them, right, because
- 59:25Speaker 2: I think in real life humans do become not necessarily
- 59:32Speaker 2: I mean, some become more obsessed than others, but like,
- 59:35Speaker 2: I mean, I think at some point all humans do
- 59:38Speaker 2: have thoughts about it, right, because it's something that we
- 59:40Speaker 2: know that unfortunately is coming for all of us, and
- 59:43Speaker 2: we don't know what happens after. And you know, once
- 59:47Speaker 2: you know, you can't it's not like everybody comes back
- 59:52Speaker 2: from after and tells us like what it's like, and
- 59:55Speaker 2: so you know, you have those thoughts and sometimes like
- 59:58Speaker 2: you do, it's like when people ask, like, if you
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: had the choice to be like become a mortal, like,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: would you because and there's some people I think that
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: would say like I'm so afraid of the unknown, or
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: I'm so afraid of dying or what comes after death,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: that I would choose to be a mortal because I
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: know what life is and I know, like, like I
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: know what this is, right, and I think it's like
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: that same kind of thought for them, especially like when
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: you said that people can choose to become ghosts in
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: the Wizarding World because they're afraid of death. It is
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: that choice of what you already know, but like you said,
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: you know it could be door number two is actually
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: the better option in that moment, which again leads me
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: to believe though that there is probably this like you
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: have to instantly make the choice, because otherwise you could
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: make the choice to like finish the process and see
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: where you go and then be like, Okay, now that
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: I'm there, I actually want to go back and live
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: out the rest of my life at Hogwarts, and I
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: feel like that's probably not what happens, right.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: And there's like in the books, there's a lot of
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: weight given to like not fearing death, right, and kind
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: of like if you can get to that point of
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: not fearing death, you're considered like wise and like better
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: off than say Tom Riddle, who couldn't get over that fear.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: And basically destroyed himself with that fear. So yeah, you know, I.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Have to think about it too. Actually, it's like that
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: is such a theme here, right because even going back
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: to what we were talking about earlier with you know,
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: getting getting to see Nicholas Flamel and the TV show,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: it's the same thing, right, like having this developing this
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: elixir so that you never die like at the end
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: of that, Like it all stems from this like fear
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: of death and this fear of like leaving behind what
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: you already know. And that is such a theme in
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: these books, right from the very beginning to you know,
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: all the way at the very end, you know, when
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: you know Harry is at the at you know, death's
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: door and asking about it, you know. And yeah, I
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: think my other like question too though, is are are
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: witches and wizards are they like prepped for this, Like
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: are they taught like, hey, at the moment you die,
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: you have ten seconds to decide if you want to
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: come back as a ghost or is it something where
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: you have to like learn that yourself, like you just
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: dabble in research and you know, it's kind of like
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: how not everybody becomes an animagus even though they could
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: they could go through the process obviously. Yeah, I just
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: wonder if they know they have that choice. How do
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: they learn they have that choice? Is it people like
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: nearly headless Nick telling people like he tells Harry it's
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: a choice. Would Harry never have learned that if a
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: ghost didn't tell him that, Like, how do they I
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: just have questions, like, how do they know that that's
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: an option for them?
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Like at a certain point, is it just like naturally
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: people start kind of asking questions.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Or yeah, or like hey, how did you become a ghost?
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Like you know, and it's just like this passed down
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: knowledge that not everybody knows or is it something where yeah,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: they're taught. You know. One aspect of us being witches
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: and wizards is at the time of your death, you
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: can make a very quick choice if you want to stay, like.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Mm hmm, yeah, yeah, all right. So we talked about ghosts,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: and I kind of wanted to keep Peeves separate because
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: he's not really a ghost, but I do want to
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: talk about him a little bit because obviously Poulter guys
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: are still hauntings. So Poulter guys exist in the wizarding
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: world as well as you know, all these tales that
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: we have of them in our world. We know of Peeves,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: of course, I'm sure there's more. In German, Poltergeist means
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: noisy ghost, and these spirits are usually considered different from ghosts,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: more of like a collection of energy than an apparition,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: and many versions of Poltergei's folklore have these particular spirits
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: more attached to or drawn to children due to their
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: high emotions, which feeds the spirit. And so it kind
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: of makes sense that like a wizard boarding school would
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: attract a palter guyst like think of hundreds of students,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: there plenty of fuel for the fire. Peeves, as we
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: see in the books, is much more like innocently mischievous
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: than some pop culture depictions of Paltergeist, like the film Paltergeist.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: So in the Wizarding World, palter Guys are described as
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: quote indestructible spirits of chaos, and unlike the ghosts of
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: the Wizarding World, palter Guys seem to have a more
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: solid physical form. They're not silvery gray like ghosts are,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: but are in full color. They can be touched by
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: physical objects, as we see when the gum flies up
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Peeves nostril and these always tampering with like door knobs
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: and stuff, right, so they can physically touch things, they
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: can also be affected by spells, whereas ghosts cannot. Yeah,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: so I really, really, really really hope we get Peeves
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: in the TV show because pee I.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Think we will. I think that I have seen the
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: creators of the show mentioned Peeves specifically when talking about
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: how they have this opportunity to bring things from the
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: books that were in the films, And yeah, I mean
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: a character like Peeves is just like I feel like
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: meat like cinema, like it works perfectly for that. So yeah,
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: I'm really excited for that as well.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: And and he just adds to the quirky aspects of
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: the Wizarding World and I love that. So I really
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: really hope we get like these random scenes of Peeves
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: messing around in the hallways, because why.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Not we know he's there, he's doing it.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: I also have like a lot of questions about like
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Poultergeist and the wizard World and stuff too, and like yeah,
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: like how do they just come from? Like where does
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: this energy come from that then creates this Poulter Like
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: what what were they before? Like?
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Right, because like on like a ghost he wasn't like
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: a living person before like that, but.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Asks like a person Like it's just very interesting and like, yeah,
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: where did what was that energy before? Before it kind
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: of all came together to form Peeves? Right?
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Is it like the end energy of like all the
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: troublemakers in the school and then it just like clumps
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: together and makes Peeves And he's like the personification of
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: that all.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: The mischieft makers over the years. I mean maybe, I
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: mean it's like it's it actually reminds me a lot
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: of like an obscuristling in a way of like just
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: this collection of energy that kind of forms. And I
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: think we have a lot of questions too about like
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: how does the obscurists itself actually like form and like
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: and all of that. It's it's like the same, It's
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: all the same, like how does it form? Where was
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: it before? What is it after? It's Peeves just always
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: going to be Peeves? And like I think especially like
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: knowing that they can be affected by spells, like can
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: you like a vata cadavra, a polkergeist? Like do they
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: need to be worried about that? You know what I mean?
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Like McGonagall just gets so frustrated with me, and she's
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: just so done with him that like bye, you.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Know, Yeah, I think he's lucky that Filch is a squib.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Otherwise I think he'd be hit with a lot more spells.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: Absolutely, absolutely, I don't know. Yeah, I just have a
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: lot of questions about that. Yeah, is it only certain
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: spells that can affect them? Is it all of them?
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: Like how does the spell like actually affect them, like right,
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: and the fact that they're in like full color, Like
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: does it look like a person just floating around right?
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Like it's it's it's like a person, but they're flying
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: like a ghost. I'm really curious to see how they Yeah,
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: how they portray Peeves in the show, because again, like
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: you mentioned that, he is very very different form. Like
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: I've watched so many films and seen so many different
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: TV shows and stuff that have poltergeist in them, and
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: he is very, like you said, very different than how
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: they're traditionally seen.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: So, in addition to Hogwarts, we know that there are
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: probably other hauntings. If Hogwarts is considered the most haunted,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: then I'm sure there's plenty more places that have ghosts,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: and there's also ghost stories because we do know of
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: the Shrieking Shack and the fact that the story of
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: it being haunted is actually a cover for when Lupin's
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: there as a werewolf when he was at school. So,
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: just like our world, the Wizarding World sometimes uses ghost
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: stories to cover what's actually going on and come up
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: with like a reason behind things. What's interesting to me
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: about that, though, is Hogsmead is an all wizarding village.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: So these are witches and wizards believing in this ghost
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: story enough to like not go near this abandoned building.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: But why if ghosts in the Wizarding World can't actually
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: do anything, why are they so scared of going near
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: the Shrieking Shack?
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: I mean, I think that I think that, like, there
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: probably are some bad ghosts in the Wizarding World though,
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: I mean imagine like all the dark witches and wizards
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: that we have, and if they decide to come back
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: as a ghost, and I also feel like they probably
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: have more motivation to come back as a ghost, you know,
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: like to continue their whatever. And I think that, you know,
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: even though they might not be able to like fully
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: interact with objects in a way that ghosts can, and
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: like other stories, and so maybe that makes them less scary.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: But like, I also think that again, I think we're
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: kind of the ghosts that we see and kind of
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: interact with the most in the story are actually pretty
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: friendly and not scary and not threatening, But I don't
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: think that means that there aren't some that are, and
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: especially like if they're if witches and wizards are kind
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: of brought up with some ghost stories that are more scary,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: I could see them developing a fear over like those
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: ghosts that like actually are scary, which could maybe be
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: playing a role here is that there is still some
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: fear around those more ghosts, or like if there are
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: more like demonic type ghosts in the Wizarding World, which
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: again I imagine that there are, especially if the Wizarding World
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: just seems like a very like haunted place, like it
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: just seems like a like like you said, right, if
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Hogwarts is the most haunted dwelling in Great Britain, like,
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: there's gotta be a lot more that are also haunted
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: in some in some degree.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Well, it makes you wonder too if the power of
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: a witch er wizard in life translates to how powerful
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: they can be as a ghost.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Should have stayed as a ghost, he would have had
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: a real powerful ghost I feel like.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Right, because then some of those like more dark which
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: is in wizards, who maybe have a little bit more
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: power in the dark arts, they could maybe mess with
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: people a little bit more as a ghost and say
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: nearly headless Nick, who obviously wasn't really the best as spells, right.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Right, I think, man, can you imagine the biggest plot
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: twist ever Harry thinks he like defeated Baltimore and then
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: Baltimore comes back as a ghost. Yeah, just kidding. I
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: just had that thought when we were talking about that.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: But yeah, I could see that that you're you're or
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: also to like kind of like when I was mentioning
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: before about in Star Wars, like Jedi like studying and
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: learning like how to come back as a forest ghost.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: Like I wonder if there's you know, people that kind
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: of study like being a ghost or like pre plan
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: you know, to be a ghost or you know, at
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: the end of the day, they're still magic, right, And
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: so I think, like, are there spells that can be developed?
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: Is there incantations? Like is there things that can be
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: developed in a magical way to basically make the ghost
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: like evolve or you know, you become a more evolved
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: ghost than somebody else, Like, is there this underground society
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: of which is a wizards that are studying this? Is
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: there a room in the Department of Mystery is like
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: going back to that episode that we did that's studying,
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: you know, the afterlife and for a witcher wizard like,
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: I feel like there's always that opportunity for them to
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: evolve because they're magic based at the end of the day.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Mm hmm. I wonder if that's why they have the
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: veil at the Department of Mysteries of like they're trying
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: to go through the veil to see what the other
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: option is and then come back and report back of
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: like what it is, so people know what they're choosing
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: between ghost and whatever is behind the veil. But obviously
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: they've been unsuccessful coming back through the veil, so still
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: nobody knows, right or.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: I think we talked too about even studying if there's
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: a way that we can harness the ability to walk
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: between both worlds versus like, right, you have this split
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: second to make this decision and you have to stick
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: with that decision for the rest of your life. Could
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: they be studying is that true. Do we have to
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: make that decision and stick with it? Yeah, I think
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: for sure, because I mean it makes complete sense to
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: me that there would be people in the wizarding world
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: very intrigued by this topic and very intrigued in studying
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: it more and trying to figure it out. And yeah,
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: I can see that either way. I guess that's a
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: little bit of a tangent of where we started with that.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: But I think it still comes down to the fact
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: that I think that just as there's good witches and
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: wizards and bad witch is in Wizards, I think there's
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: probably good which in wizard ghosts and bad which in
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: wizard ghosts, which would make sense that outside of Hogwarts,
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: I don't think we would ever have any like real
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: bad ghosts in Hogwarts. I'm sure that there's some way
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: or some spell or some I can just picture Dumbledore
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: like having a way to like banish those.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: At night, like in his robe, and.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: You know, or is there like an entry an entry
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: exam or an entry something. You know, It's like, do
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: these ghosts to show up on the doorstep of Hogwarts
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: being like, Hey, I want to live out the rest
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: of my days here. Is there a vetting process, you
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: know what I mean, like, is there something there? And
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: so I can imagine that there's a lot of bad
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: ghosts that are not able to be in some place
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: like Hogwarts, and so where are they occupying? Where are
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: they haunting? And I think that those could very much
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: be the inspiration for the ghost stories and could be
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: the inspiration for this village of witches and wizards to
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: have this fear. Imagine like these little English villages, right,
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: and there's like an actual ghost that's just been terrorizing
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: and haunting that village for centuries. I can see how
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: that could create this like you know story amongst people
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: that gets passed on like folklore stories and wives tales
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: and stuff, and it's just yeah, and they've got this
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: shack that's just got this, and it's like, we don't
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: want to go anywhere near that, because who the heck
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: knows what that is? Right when a at the end
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: of the day, it's just a werewolf. M you know,
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I was gonna say, arguably more scary than a ghost.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, so that's really all we have ghosts,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: but super interesting topic.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: I think it's interesting because it's similar to like when
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: we talk about time travel in the Wizarding World. I
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: think these topics are always interesting because they're they are
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: I don't want to use the word topic again in
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: that sentence, but I don't know how else. I don't
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: know how else to describe it. But they are topics
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: that we see throughout different It's not specific to the
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: Wizarding World. That's what I'm trying to say, right, Like,
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: time travel is not specific to Harry Potter and the
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: Wizarding World. Ghosts and hauntings is definitely not just something
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: that's part of Harry Potter in the Wizarding World. But
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I think it's always interesting to see. It's like every story, movie, book,
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: TV series, whatever form of medium that uses time travel
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: or ghosts or werewolves or whatever, has this ability to
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: kind of play around with it, and at the end
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: of the day, the top it is still like the same.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: At the core level, We're still talking about ghosts, and
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: these ghosts still have some of the same properties of
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: ghosts that we see in other forms, right, But I
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: think it's always interesting to see how different stories utilize
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: this common theme or topic or thing. But like just
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: play around with it a little bit and play around
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: with the logistics of it and the properties of it
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: to fit that story or that world. Like I don't
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: even know if I'm making sense, Like I think it's
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: just interesting to see, like the ghosts that we see
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: in the Wizarding World are still ghosts, but they have
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: some properties of them that we don't see in other
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: ghost stories. And so I think it's really interesting how
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: in Harry Potter they really are in a lot of
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: ways like tied to magic, right, like in saying that, okay,
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: like muggles can't become a ghost, like you have to
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: be a witcher wizard. And I just think that's really interesting.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: And then again it brings up all those questions that
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: we asked that you know, we'll never get answers to about,
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: you know, how does this actually happen? And you know, so, yeah,
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: I think it's interesting. I think it's very interesting as well.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: And specialis Orvilio.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: So for this episode's rotating segment, I thought it'd be
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: cool to do a Specialis Rebellio and kind of dig
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: a little bit more into the etymology of some of
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: like the ghost and ghost adjacent characters that we just
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: talked about, and you know, obviously in the main section
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: as well, we had some etymology around some things as well.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: But in digging around, I was able to find a
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: couple interesting things about etymology of a couple of our
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: house ghosts and peeves. There wasn't one for all of them.
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: And I don't know two of this is necessarily even
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: like true etymology. I just thought it was kind of
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: like fun. But I found for Helena Ravenclaw that the
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: name Helena is a Latin form of Helen, the name Helen,
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: which the name Helen is derived from the Greek eleni.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: I don't exactly know how. I don't know Greek, so
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: I'm probably not pronouncing that right, but that word means
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: torch or like corpuisant. I think, like Saint Elmo's fire
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: kind of thing, like a source of light. And I
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: thought that was kind of like interesting thinking about that.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: I mean, again, that could have not been JK. Rowlings
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: like thought at all when thinking about naming her Helena,
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: like I don't know if she you know, thought like
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: I want to, I like this the source of and
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: her being like a source of light. And I don't
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: know if maybe we can say that Helena Raymond Claw
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: is a source of light. I don't know I thought
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: that was interesting.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe it more refers to like not so much
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: Helena the person, but Helena the ghost form of like
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: like the gray Lady, the like silvery light of a ghost.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Maybe it was like like this like foreshadowing of her.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: I mean, I think that she she is this important
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: part of the story though right like obviously at the end,
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: like she Without her, we don't find all of like
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: the horror cruxes. And so I think too that she
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: plays a role in that way that like none of
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: the other ghosts do or the house ghosts do, Like
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: she's very integral to like the ending of this story.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: And she I think we could say she's kind of
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: like a source of light in terms of like knowledge
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: if we wanted to really stretch there for Harry and
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: her story and all of that is important for Harry.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: So I thought that was interesting. And then I found
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: for Nearly Headless Nick. I really liked this because so
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: the name Nicholas is from the Greek name Nikolaus, which
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: means victory of the people. And I don't know if
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: that necessarily like goes to him so much, but I
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: found this what I this made me chuckle, and I
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: thought that this was really great for him, is that,
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: you know, the nickname of Nick, which is obviously the
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: most common nickname for Nicholas, is a very ironic nickname,
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: especially for you know, nearly headless nick because in addition
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: to the word nick being a name, it also means
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: to wound or cut slightly.
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: But not all the way.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: Exactly, you know, think of you know, I just nicked
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: myself while shaving, right, We say that all the time. Oh,
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: I just nicked the paint on my car, you know,
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: you just a little bit, right. And you know, the
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: irony here is that Nick was uh nicked a little
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: bit in his neck and uh, I mean it was
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: more than a slight cut, but it also wasn't a
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: full cut. I saw that. I was like, that is
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: hilarious and that is perfect and I can't imagine him
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: being named anything else because he was, yeah, nicked a
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: little in his neck and then yeah, so then we
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: I know, you had mentioned kind of like the etymology
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: of like a Poulter guy, and so I thought it'd
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: be interesting to kind of look at the etymology of
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: Peeves in his name, and it fits perfectly for him. It,
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: I don't know, because Peeves I don't know if Peace
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: has a gender. I don't know if he's referred to it.
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: We keep saying he at Peeves. So peeve means little
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: devil or something that's personally annoying or a personal dislike.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: So think of like a pet peeve. And I think
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: that that's a pretty great way to describe Peeves. And
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: the word peevish also means disagreeable or bad tempered, which
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: I also think describes Peeves pretty much to a tee.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, yeah.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: So yeah, So I thought that those little bits of
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: etymology I was able to find on them were pretty interesting.
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: Love it's nice, all right. So last episode we asked
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: you the question do you think the Malfoys have redeemable
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: qualities or are they just evil? And we got a
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: few answers on Instagram, So happily. Katie ninety one on
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Instagram says, Draco and Narcissa, yes, Lucius, maybe fair enough.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: That's pretty said too.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: Uh huh. Mary's commander on Instagram said they do have
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: redeeming qualities, but they're not good people.
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree, yeah, And then Jerry emailed us, and
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: Jerry says, in thinking about the Malfoy family and if
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: one or more.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: Is slash r red for Lucius. I vote no for Lucious.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: No boy, just get it. But I agree with all
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: of you. Yes, he is definitely the least redeemable.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: Jerry goes on to say during the episode, it was
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: speculated that he hadn't been sure how the diary was
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: going to impact Ginny, an eleven year old girl to
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: whom he presented the diary. He might not have known
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: just what was going to happen, but he certainly knew
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: or believed that something dreadful was going to happen at
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: Hogwarts due to that diary. He talked about what dreadful
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: things are going to happen to someone Draco, Narcissa or
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: question Mark, so that Dobby overheard and came to believe
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: that it was going to be so dangerous that Dobby
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: had to stop Harry Potter from going to school that year,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: and then to hurt Harry so that he would be
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: sent home where it was safer, since quote, better maimed
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: than dead. So Lucius presented little Jinny with something that
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: he believed was going to be deadly to some of
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: the students at Hogwarts. For that alone, I believe that
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Lucius Malfoy isn't redeemable fair enough? Yeah, And then Jerry says,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: as to his wife and son, perhaps their bits of
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: good or redeemable come from the Black family influence. After all,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: there had actually been quite a few good members of
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: the Black Family over the years. We have Serious and Andromeda,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: mother of Tonks, then Regulus, who saved creature and defied
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: the Dark Lord, and the various other members of the
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: family who Serious his mom had blasted off the tapestry,
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: including the uncle who left Serious money to be independent.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: So the fact that Narcissa loves her son and Draco
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: is unable to kill Dumbledore, feels badly about endangering his
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: fellow students, and eventually marries for love and loves his
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: son may be the result of her Black family blood
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: diluting the bad faith of the Malfloyce. I like that.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: I like that theory too, and it really like it
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: also kind of it makes sense with I think how
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: like the author would also think of it as well,
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: because think about like, at the end of the day,
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: like Harry, the reason Harry is what he is is
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: because of like a mother's love and like a blood.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: And her blood in his veins.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: Yeah, right, So I think that for jk Rowling, like
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: like she does put this emphasis on blood magic. We
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: see it a lot and the blood yes, mother's and
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: familial blood chilure, Yes, protecting and having the ability to protect.
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: Think you're onto something, Jerry.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I like it. Good stuff And.
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: We totally make sense to why. I mean, we talked
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: about that right a lot in the episode about how
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: like is narciss so really as bad as like we
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: always think of her as just because she's a malfoy
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: like I I mean, obviously you all know, I like
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: defended her pretty heavily like in that episode, and I
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: think that, yeah, I think at the end of the day, right,
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: she's a malfoy by marriage. So hm. So for this episode,
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: we obviously asked a lot of questions about ghosts and
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: the logistics around them, and so we want to know
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: what questions do you have about ghosts in the Weszarding world.

- 1:33:11Speaker 1: All right, until next time, I'm Amy and I'm Nicole.
