- 0:00So here's how I realized I was autistic.
- 0:03And if you relate to this, then maybe you're going through the
- 0:06same thing too. But if you're not the buckle up,
- 0:09this is really good story. It's very interesting.
- 0:11And here it is to you. The unfiltered raw vision.
- 0:14So how did I realize I was autistic?
- 0:16The interesting thing to me was, you know, I didn't know anything
- 0:20about autism before I was diagnosed with autism.
- 0:22And that's kind of crazy thinking about it considering my
- 0:24entire business, my job now and my mission in life, my life's
- 0:28work is to help educate people on autism and help educate
- 0:32autistic individuals to improve their condition of life and make
- 0:36themselves the best version of themselves they can possibly be,
- 0:38make them confident and get abde energy and more about that
- 0:41later. But how does one go from knowing
- 0:44nothing about autism to them being like an award winner with
- 0:48a best selling book on autism in in three countries and you know,
- 0:53graduating from MIT and winning autism hero awards, all about
- 0:56this. Well, we're going to cover all
- 0:58that right now. But before we get into it, guys,
- 1:00my name is Dan. And if you're new around here
- 1:01and you want to learn more about autism in general, make sure to
- 1:04hit that subscribe button because I'm autistic and I have
- 1:06ADHD. And if you're watching on
- 1:08Facebook, please give this video a follow and a like on this
- 1:11page. OK so there I was 2013, I'm 26
- 1:16years old and I'm doing an access course to science now.
- 1:19I left school with no qualifications because I was in
- 1:21the special Ed kind of programme in school and it was a 90s and
- 1:25it sucked basically. But I left school with no
- 1:27qualifications and then I went to Technical College here in the
- 1:30UK which is from 16 to like 21. Typically people do that and you
- 1:34can learn different things and you don't have to have any
- 1:36qualifications to go onto certain courses like performing
- 1:39arts because I'm a multi musician, self-taught musician.
- 1:41I'm in a band called Straitjacket Legends and I was
- 1:45able to eventually do a degree in chemistry, but before doing
- 1:48that I had to do an access course to get me up to speed.
- 1:50Now, when I went to this access course, I met a woman whose son
- 1:55had Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis.
- 1:57And so I'm sitting down for dinner, you know, every day,
- 2:00lunchtime, just eating and talking to the rest of the
- 2:03people in the group. Wasn't about 5 or 6 of us in
- 2:05this group. And this lady was telling me,
- 2:07hey, you're a lot like my son. And she said to me, do you have
- 2:11Asperger syndrome? I said, no, I don't know what
- 2:13that is. And so she said, OK, it's
- 2:14basically it's autism. And this is before the levelling
- 2:18system changed. And they do have a video all
- 2:19about that. So if you're really interested,
- 2:21I'll leave a video about the difference between autism and
- 2:23Asperger's syndrome, which there really isn't, but what happened
- 2:26and all that stuff. So I'll leave it in a card here
- 2:28or in the description down below.
- 2:30But in terms of this lady, she highlighted to me some certain
- 2:36things. So at one time she gave me, she
- 2:39was drinking a coffee and having a banana, and she put the banana
- 2:41peel in the coffee cups and she gave me the mug.
- 2:43She said, hey, you're going to the kitchen, can you just throw
- 2:45this in the bin for me? And said, yeah, OK.
- 2:46So I threw the whole thing in the bin and came back with no
- 2:48cup. And she said, whoa, why did you
- 2:49throw the cup away? I said, because you told me to.
- 2:52She said, well, I said throw the banana bin.
- 2:53You know, the banana peel in the bin, put the cup in the sink is
- 2:56kind of like the general consensus.
- 2:58She said it's really interesting that you didn't pick that up or
- 3:00understand that and makes no logical sense for you to throw
- 3:02the whole thing away. Guys, if you are interested in
- 3:05knowing how I became confident, got that BDE energy, then make
- 3:09sure you download my free autism Building a Bulletproof Brain
- 3:14Starter kit. You can go to
- 3:15bulletproofbrain.org right now. Click the card here, link in the
- 3:19description or in the bio. Or you can just go to
- 3:21bulletproofbrain.org. Make sure you put www.beforeit
- 3:25and download the free checklist starter kit right now.
- 3:28I promise you, you're going to be amazed.
- 3:30But to me, that made sense because she asked that of me,
- 3:32right? And which is really interesting.
- 3:34So this was my first experience with somebody understanding my
- 3:38weirdness as something that had an explanation.
- 3:40Right? Up until this point, I'd just
- 3:41been a very interesting kid and gone through variant different
- 3:45issues and challenges in my life and not had any formal diagnosis
- 3:48because they were just clutching the straws back in the 80s and
- 3:5190s when I was in school and high school and things like
- 3:53that. So then she says to me, hey, you
- 3:56should definitely check out Lasperger syndrome.
- 3:58Read up on it because you're very similar to what you're
- 4:01expressing right now. And then I was like, OK, so the
- 4:04only thing I knew about autism was all about the movie Rain
- 4:09Man, which really isn't about autism.
- 4:11It's a kind of is about autism. It's about savantism, which is
- 4:14like the the right end of the spectrum of autism, but where
- 4:17the person is severely, profoundly disabled in certain
- 4:19areas, but they're also excelling in major areas like
- 4:22mathematics or science or something like that.
- 4:24And so my limited knowledge allowed me to go to the Internet
- 4:29and not find absolutely anything on autism because it sucked back
- 4:32then and it's 2013 and the Internet was garbage for autism
- 4:35information, let alone there was no influencers talking about
- 4:38this stuff. I was the first one actually
- 4:40when I started my channel back in 2013.
- 4:42So I was in work and my job was quite interesting.
- 4:47I'd never stayed in a job longer than a few months because I'd
- 4:51always developmental health issues within jobs and on
- 4:55different medication and therapies.
- 4:56It was always bad. But the job I was in was kind of
- 4:58cool. There was like 4 or five of us
- 4:59in the room, very small. I could deal with the work was
- 5:02dealing with numbers and building websites and things
- 5:04like that and I really liked it. But the company grew rapidly and
- 5:08expanded to like a 200 person operation.
- 5:10It's crazy. So then they moved the office
- 5:12whilst I was on vacation and moved my desk around.
- 5:14So I came back from vacation, didn't know what was going on,
- 5:16freaking out and I just had a complete meltdown, which is
- 5:21basically an emotional outburst overload.
- 5:23And she couldn't take anymore. And so I was sent home and then
- 5:27they told me to book therapy, which I book therapy.
- 5:30Then I got the therapy and whilst I was in talk therapy or
- 5:32psych therapy, they were like, hey, maybe you should look into
- 5:37autism. And so they, they, they referred
- 5:39me for an assessment in autism. And this isn't the good old days
- 5:41when you could actually get an assessment earlier in like 3
- 5:43years. And at the same time, my
- 5:45girlfriend at the time, her mother was a mental health nurse
- 5:47and asked my girlfriend, hey, his down on the autism spectrum
- 5:51because I only just started going out there.
- 5:53And she was like, no. And then so she asked me like,
- 5:56hey, you on the autism spectrum. I said no, I don't really know
- 5:58much about this, but it's funny like, you know, you're not the
- 6:00only person that's asked me this in the past couple of years.
- 6:02And then it all came down to this.
- 6:04I went for the assessment and then they were like, yeah, you,
- 6:08you follow the, the specific patterns for the Asperger
- 6:11syndrome, which it was called back then, and ADHD.
- 6:14And I also had dyslexia and I also have OCD.
- 6:17So then they gave me this report and I came home with this report
- 6:20and I was like, holy smokes, what the heck does this even
- 6:23mean? And I digested it and it was
- 6:26really interesting. So I've gone 26 years feeling
- 6:30like a complete freak, not being able to, you know, understand
- 6:34myself alone, relate myself to anybody else.
- 6:36And then that one moment that I had this report in my hand and I
- 6:40read it and I was like, holy smokes, I need to now understand
- 6:44what autism is so I can understand myself.
- 6:45But when on the Internet and I couldn't find anything on autism
- 6:48that related to me. And I'm a visual learner.
- 6:49I needed videos. I needed contextual information
- 6:51that somebody could relate to me.
- 6:52Like I'm talking to you right now.
- 6:54And so that's why I uploaded my first ever video. 2013 June It's
- 7:00called like 10 Asperger's symptoms.
- 7:02You can find a video, I'll link it in this video so that you can
- 7:04in the description down below or in a comment if you're watching
- 7:06on Facebook. And I will also put it in a card
- 7:10so you can watch it after this one on the on screen if you're
- 7:12watching on YouTube. It was really interesting and it
- 7:16was, it was fascinating really because it gave me something
- 7:18really interesting. I went online to find videos and
- 7:21I couldn't find videos. So I made my own videos
- 7:22thinking, hey, I've gone 26 years in the dark.
- 7:24Maybe I've got information that would help somebody else feel
- 7:26relative, right? So I did that and then this
- 7:29channel grew and I'm forever thankful for that because it
- 7:32changed the course of my life forever.
- 7:33And now I'm blessed that I get to help people, you know, every
- 7:37single day as my work. And so honestly, that just fills
- 7:41me with so much happiness. It's, it's unbelievable.
- 7:44What about your story? I want to know what is your
- 7:46story? Drop it in a comment down below.

- 7:56I wasn't always this confident and I definitely wasn't always
- 7:59this able. I'm able to hold down having a
- 8:01full time self-employed job. I have children and a
- 8:04relationship across the Atlantic.
- 8:06How did I do this? I teach you all of this in
