- 1:00Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. You know, I've mentioned before that
- 1:04often have debates with people where I live because there's a large presence of Seven
- 1:14Day Adventis in the area. Elijah Hooves witnesses, a lot of Church of
- 1:21God, a lot of which you might call primitive Baptist or free will Baptist,
- 1:27a lot of people that kind of they don't have what you would consider
- 1:32an orthodox doctrine. Okay, and I am, you know, being an
- 1:38herbalist and writing a lot for preppers and homesteaders, you tend to encounter a
- 1:42lot of people online and any of your life that are just, let's say,
- 1:48very independent minded, but also very devout, and they tend to be
- 1:55what we would call Torah observant Christians. Torah observant that means that they follow
- 2:00the Mosaic law and believe in Jesus Christ's the Messiah. If you actually read
- 2:08the Bible from cover to cover, you'll find those are incompatible ideas expressly condemned
- 2:15in the Gospels. But for some reason they do embrace that. And they're
- 2:21very well meaning people. They're very devout, and they're very religious, and
- 2:28they make an argument that is really, really difficult for most Protestants to refute,
- 2:36and that is where in the Bible. If the Bibles or sole authority,
- 2:42where in the Bible's is say, Christians no longer celebrate the Jewish Sabbath,
- 2:47but Christians go church on Sunday. Well, the truth is, the
- 2:52Bible doesn't say that. You see, the Bible is not a manual for
- 2:55worship. The Bible does not contain all the teachings of Jesus and his apostles.
- 3:01The Bible specifically says what's written down here is so that you may believe
- 3:07the oral tradition and written tradition of the Catholic Church was taught to the early
- 3:14Church by the apostles of Jesus, passed down from generation and generation, and
- 3:23on the finer points of doctrine developed over time. I mean, the Bible
- 3:27says baptizing the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
- 3:30But the Bible does not go into detail and explaining the nature of the Trinity.
- 3:37The Trinity is something that I guess I won't say all because there's so
- 3:42many Protestant denominations, like fifty thousand or so depending on how you count.
- 3:46Most Christians believe in the Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy
- 3:51Spirit, one God in three persons. But the Bible doesn't explained that doesn't
- 3:54explain the nature of it. It took hundreds of years actually of intense prayer
- 4:00and study for the Catholic Church to formalize and explain and define that doctrine.
- 4:09And that's really just one aspect. I've spoken to you before about how the
- 4:14Bible does not explain Christian marriage, that polygamy was no longer allowed, but
- 4:20that we could only have monogamy again. Actually, the first writings of the
- 4:27early Church, it was Pope Saint Clement, the third Pope, who formalize
- 4:31the definition of Christian marriage that all Christians now follow. There may be some
- 4:38French groups, and of course yes there are. There's the Olds Church,
- 4:42the Mormons. But Mormons, in no way, shape or form can you
- 4:49say that Mormon doctrine is compatible with traditional Christian doctrine. It's really Mormons are
- 4:59a Christian related group, Let's put it that way. You cannot fully believe
- 5:05if you don't fully believe in the divinity of Christ and the humanity of Christ
- 5:11as well. It's really hard to say that person is a Christian Mormons.
- 5:17I dated a Mormon girl for a while who she told me everything I needed
- 5:25to know about the LDS Church because she had studied it intensely and decided that
- 5:30Mormons were not Christian and that she was leaving that church and she wanted to
- 5:34join a Christian denomination, and her family went to extreme measures to prevent us
- 5:43from marrying and basically almost like kidnapping and brainwashing. So I got to learn
- 5:48a lot about the inside of the LDS Church, the way they think and
- 5:54what they actually believe as opposed to how it's presented. And you know,
- 6:00Jesus said, those who are not against be or for me. So there
- 6:03are many very good Mormons who do great charitable works, and to some extent,
- 6:11they believe in Jesus, you know, as opposed to the Jehovah's witnesses
- 6:15who do not believe in the divinity of Jesus. I would call them Christian
- 6:18related as well. They are witnesses for Jehovah, God the Father, and
- 6:25they will openly tell you Jesus the Son was not is not God, and
- 6:30anyone who worships Jesus is going to Hell. Well, Christians are Christians because
- 6:34we worship Christ. We believe in the divinity of Christ. That's really our
- 6:40foundational principle actually, and we believe in Christ's teachings and that those teachings are
- 6:47given to us through the Catholic Church. So when you're Torah observant or Seven
- 6:54day advents, et cetera Christian comes to you and says you're worshiping the devil
- 6:58because you don't go to the Jewish Sabbath. You go to church on Sunday.
- 7:02And anyone who goes to church on Sunday is worshiping the devil. It's
- 7:06very hard, honestly, to refute using just the words of the Bible,
- 7:12because, like I said, the Bible is not the first manual of Christian
- 7:15belief and religious instruction and the practice of our worship. The DDAK is the
- 7:21writings of the Twelve Apostles, the earliest, the oldest post biblical document.
- 7:30You can't convince someone who says the Bible alone no other authority using the DAK
- 7:40because they say it has no authority. That's not a logically tenable argument,
- 7:45because the same apostles who wrote the New Testament wrote or dictated the dd K.
- 7:51But it does really confound the Protestant because the Protestant who says we're Christians,
- 8:01we go church on Sunday. When one of these people says to them,
- 8:05you shouldn't go church on Sunday, the Bible says you should go church
- 8:09on Saturday, really has no answer except you know, this, sir,
- 8:15tradition and this what we do, and no way of explaining why now obviously
- 8:22on its face, you know, you look and say, well, Sundays
- 8:26today Jesus rose from the dead. Sundays today we celebrate Easter. Pentecost was
- 8:31also on Sunday, the birth of the Church. That is an excellent argument.
- 8:37It's a very valid and truthful argument. But you will find when you're
- 8:41debating someone who says I only believe the words written down the Bible, that
- 8:46it's not an entirely convincing argument. And frankly, I don't know how one
- 8:58can convince a person such as that. I haven't been successful because I say
- 9:03here's the d dok. And they say I won't read it. Why won't
- 9:05you read it because it's not the Bible? And I say, well,
- 9:09okay, the Bible is not a history book. You know, it's not
- 9:13a newspaper. It doesn't tell you the daily events. If I handed you
- 9:16a historical document that said this happened on this day in the year one hundred
- 9:20twenty, would you read it? Yes, I would. Well, why
- 9:22won't you read the DC because I only believe it's in the Bible, and
- 9:26that's the only religious document I'll believe. Well, if that's where the person
- 9:33you know puts on the brakes and refuses to go any further, you're not
- 9:37gonna get anywhere. Seriously. I mean, you could say, here's popes
- 9:41Saint Clement, the third Pope writing the Apostles were still alive, he was
- 9:46ordained by Saint Peter. Nope, I won't read it. If they won't
- 9:50read it, that really is the end of the debate, and that generally
- 9:56is how those debates turn out. But as a Catholic, and this totally
- 10:01applies to Protestants as well, I know I have Protestants who listen to my
- 10:05shows. And when you're confronted by those people that say Sunday worship is the
- 10:15work of the devil, you need to be able to defend your faith.
- 10:18It needs me to be able to stand firm in it. So you're not
- 10:20swayed by that opinion, which is actually heretical, condemned by you know,
- 10:31Saint Paul in the Bible, making Christians abide by Jewish law, condemned by
- 10:37actually several of apostles in the Bible and all the early Church. You know,
- 10:43Saint Peter himself said, you know you're not to be bound by Jewish
- 10:46law anymore. Well, they will say, if you don't follow Jewish law,
- 10:50you worship the devil and you're going to hell. You cannot let that
- 10:54undermine your faith because well, if you say the Bible's sole authority, when
- 11:01someone says that you have to still abide by the Jewish law as a Christian,
- 11:05that's anti biblical and it's not the work of God. So you need
- 11:13to be firm and not be swayed. And today's show, I'm going to
- 11:18try to just go through a few points that will help you defend your faith
- 11:22or at least be firm in it and realize that, yes, you are
- 11:28by going to church on Sunday, even if it's not a Catholic church,
- 11:33you're still doing what Jesus and the apostles ask of you as a Christian.
- 11:37Granted I would prefer if you went to a Catholic church, but if you
- 11:41don't, you're still in closer communion with the Catholic Church through the teachings of
- 11:48the Apostles than those who reject Sunday worship. From the very beginning in the
- 11:56writings of the early Church fathers, we see that the Christian which was distinctly
- 12:01Christian both in belief and practice from Judaism. Christians did not observe the Jewish
- 12:05Sabbath. The Bishop Theophilus of Antioch wrote in one fifty a d that Christians
- 12:11observe Sunday as the Sabbath, while Jews still observes Saturday. Christians joined together
- 12:18for worship in Euchrists on Sunday because that was the day Christ rose from the
- 12:20dead. As I mentioned, every Sunday is a commemoration of the most holy
- 12:24day in history, Easter. Contrary to what Saven Day advent as to observe
- 12:30at Christians and certain other denominations teach, the proper day for Christian worship is
- 12:35Sunday, and the observance of Sunday in place of the Jewish Sabbath has been
- 12:39observed since the Apostles. From the very first day from Pentecost on, that's
- 12:46been the day Christians go to church to worship and share in the Euchrist,
- 12:50the breaking of bread, the holy communion. Not only does the Bible make
- 12:56clear that Christians no longer follow the Torah, the mosaic law, that it's
- 13:00a topic I'm going to get into more later. There's a lot more say
- 13:05about it. The early Church wrote about Christian worship extensively. Although such denominations
- 13:11believe they followed the Bible explicitly and the Catholicism is actually evil for observing Sunday,
- 13:16they failed to recognize that Jesus Christ is the living word of God.
- 13:20He was the very word given to Moses and written on the tablet of the
- 13:24Ten Commandments. They will point out that Jesus said not one iota of the
- 13:30law would change. However, they failed to recognize Jesus also said he was
- 13:33the lord of the Sabbath. He was the law. When Jesus said it
- 13:41and did it, that was the true meaning of the law. The law,
- 13:46as we were told in the Bible, was just a sign of things
- 13:50to come, and Jesus fulfilled what was to come, which makes sense that
- 13:56the Sabbath would be transferred to the next day because the next day is the
- 14:01first day of the week. It's the fulfillment of the old law, where
- 14:05the Sabbath on the last day into the new law the first day, the
- 14:11new day of worship. There's actually a lot of writings on that, you
- 14:16know, by some of the really great thinkers of the doctors of the Church.
- 14:20He made clear that the old law was no longer valid. He was
- 14:26establishing a new covenant. And Jesus alone is God, as I always said,
- 14:33as I always say, whatever Jesus said, dude, just do it.
- 14:41Father Sparrago, writing about eighteen ninety or so, said Sunday was appointed
- 14:46by the apostles as the day of rest instead of the Sabbath because Christ rose
- 14:50from the dead on Sunday. Sunday is a festival of the Holy Trinity.
- 14:54From the first day of the week, God the Father began the work of
- 14:56creation, God the Sun rose from the dead, and God the Holy Ghost
- 15:01descended upon the apostles. The apostles were authorized to transfer the day of rest
- 15:05from Saturday to Sunday because it was not so much in observance of the Sabbath
- 15:09as the observance of a fixed day in each week, upon which God insisted
- 15:15in the commandment. They were all the more at liberties to change the day,
- 15:18as the old law was but a shadow of the new. Sunday has
- 15:22called the Lord's day because it ought to be devoted to his service, and
- 15:28because he rose from the dead. Saint Justin writing in one thirty nine a
- 15:31d is the first to make use of the word Sunday. It is the
- 15:35name befitting the day whereupon the Lord, rising like the sun, rose from
- 15:41the grave in brilliance of his glorified humanity. On this day God made the
- 15:46light, the Holy Ghost came down in tongues of fire, and on this
- 15:50day we received spiritual enlightenment. The emperor Constantine the Great and joined the observance
- 15:56of Sunday as the day of rest throughout the Roman Pyre and Charlemagne caused those
- 16:02who violated to be fined. Many fringe Protestant groups will say, that's not
- 16:07you know the Church taught. It's what the Romans per Constantine taught. No,
- 16:11no, it's not. It is exactly what the Church taught. It's
- 16:15exactly what's said in the DK, written before the Bible was even completed.
- 16:19At least the Book of Revelation said yet to be completed, and Jesus gave
- 16:25to his apostles the power to bide and loose. They loosed us from the
- 16:30observance of the Jewish Sabbath and bound us to the observance of the Christian Sabbath.
- 16:37You can either believe Jesus gave them that power or Jesus lied, and
- 16:42therefore he's not God, because God cannot lie. God is omnipotent, He's
- 16:49not limited by human understanding. He alone had the authority to establish a new
- 16:56covenant, a new church, and a new law. This church, the
- 16:59Catholic Church that he founded, was given the only power, was the only
- 17:03power on earth, given his authority to teach on morals and doctrine, and
- 17:07the Catholic Church is a Sunday church. Those who insist that Christians must observe
- 17:12the Sabbath of the Jews are the very Judaizers condemned by Saint Paul in the
- 17:18Bible. They condemned true Christians for the crime against Mosaic law of which the
- 17:23Jewish authorities accused Jesus violation of the Sabbath. The Jewish subscribes and Pharisees and
- 17:30all those saddresses. The high people in the Church were outraged that Jesus healed
- 17:37on the Sabbath and that his disciples gathered grain on the Sabbath. They were
- 17:41violating Jewish law, and by that law could have been stoned to death.
- 17:48Jesus called them hypocrites, whitewashed tombs, and many other insults that are really
- 17:53surprisingly harsh. We don't think of Jesus, you know, criticizing and calling
- 17:57people names, But he he reserved his harshest criticism for these people, and
- 18:06both our Lord and his apostles to this day through the Church make clear that
- 18:11such people do not follow the law of Jesus and his church. What does
- 18:15the New Testament say about Sabbath and Sunday, Well, let's go to Matthew
- 18:19twelve one through eight. At that time, Jesus went through the cornfields one
- 18:25Sabbath day. His disciples were hungry, and we get to pick ears of
- 18:27corn and eat them. The Pharisees noticed it and said, look, your
- 18:30disciples are doing something that's forbidden on the Sabbath. But he said to them,
- 18:34have you not read what David did when he and his followers were hungry.
- 18:38How we went into the House of God and he ate the laws of
- 18:41the offering, although neither he nor his followers were permitted to eat them,
- 18:47but only the priests. Or again, have you not read in the law
- 18:51that on the Sabbath day the temple priests break the Sabbath without committing a fault.
- 18:56Now Here, I tell you, is something greater than the temple.
- 18:59And if you understood the meaning of the words mercy is what pleases me,
- 19:03not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the blameless, For the Son of
- 19:07Man is master of the Sabbath. One thing, those who deny the authority
- 19:14the Catholic Church through the apostles, I don't well know. Some of them
- 19:18do actually deny the authority of the apostles. They say that the apostles had
- 19:22no power to change anything, when Jesus actually expressly gave them that power.
- 19:26Well, they missed this point. I would say it just said. Jesus
- 19:30just said that the priests in the temple broke the Sabbath. In other words,
- 19:37they worked on the Sabbath day. Jesus established a new church with new
- 19:42priests. Not only does he say the Son of Man is lord of the
- 19:48Sabbath. It means Jesus is the Lord who appoints that day. He's the
- 19:53very word of God, and he can certainly alter it due to his will.
- 20:00He could change the whole universe if he wanted to. He said,
- 20:03you know, the stones would cry out to him. I mean all powerful,
- 20:08omnipotent. There's nothing all power and for an omnipotent that's bound by the
- 20:15written word. But his priests had authority to work on that day to do
- 20:26his will. And his priests are the priests of the Catholic Church, the
- 20:30Kingdom of God and his people, his followers have the duty to go to
- 20:36church on that day and receive the Eucharist, to do that work, to
- 20:41receive the holy that makes holy, or else, he says, we have
- 20:45no life in us. We only have the life of the spirit by going
- 20:49to church on Sunday and receiving the Eucharist. Matthew twenty eight one through two.
- 20:57After the Sabbath and toward the dawns of first Week, Mary of Magdala
- 21:02and the other Mary went to visit the Sepulture, and suddenly there was a
- 21:04violent earthquake. For the Angel of the Lord descended from having came and rolled
- 21:08away the stone that was on it. That's just more evidence that Jesus rose
- 21:14on Sunday. I don't think anyone really denies that, though I did actually
- 21:18have a debate with one of these tour observant folks that tried to tell me
- 21:22Jesus did not raise on the Sabbath because had he been, he couldn't have
- 21:26been in the tomb three days. Well, you know, according to Jewish
- 21:32tradition, a day actually begins at sunset. That's why we have vigil mass
- 21:37on Saturday. But because I couldn't get him to read any historical documents,
- 21:42and the Bible is not a history book with details such as that, he
- 21:48would not believe that Jesus was actually in the tomb three days, even though
- 21:52I gave him other Bible verses saying that Jesus was in the tomb three days,
- 21:56because he could not reconcile that with admitting that Sunday was the Jesus to
- 22:03day Jesus rose from the dead, even though it literally just said that.
- 22:07In Matthew again, we have Mark two twenty three through twenty eight. It
- 22:15happened that one Sabbath day he was taking a walk through the cornfields, and
- 22:18his disciples began to make a path by plucking years of corn. And the
- 22:22Pharisees said to him, look, what why are they doing? Something is
- 22:26forbidden, something on Sabbath day that is forbidden. And he replied, have
- 22:29you not read what David did? And in his time when he and his
- 22:33followers were hungry and went into the House of God, when Abiathos priests and
- 22:37he ate the loaves of the authoring, which were only the priests were allowed
- 22:41to eat, And how he also gave some to the men with him,
- 22:44and he said to them, the Sabbath was made from man, not man.
- 22:48For the Sabbath. The son of Man is master even of the Sabbath.
- 22:53So it's even more strongly stated in Mark two twenty three through twenty eight.
- 23:00Man was not bound by the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for man
- 23:06and Jesus, as the son of Man is the master of the Sabbath.
- 23:11He would assign to his church what day the Sabbath would be celebrated, and
- 23:17it would be the day rose, and it would be the first day of
- 23:19the week, to show that it was a new covenant and a new practice.
- 23:26And as I said before Pentecost Sunday was also Sunday, just as Easter,
- 23:30so you know, just to like emphasize the Church was formed the birthday
- 23:37of the Church, which we celebrate just a couple of weeks ago. Well,
- 23:41we know two weeks ago, I guess now, Acts two, when
- 23:47Pentecost Day came around, they had all met together, when suddenly there came
- 23:51from heaven a sound as violent as of a violent wind, which filled the
- 23:56entire house in which they were sitting, and there appeared to them tongues of
- 23:59fire. They separated and came to rest on the head of each of them.
- 24:03They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages
- 24:06as the Spirit gave them power to express themselves. Acts twenty seven. On
- 24:11the first day of the week, they met for breaking of bread. What's
- 24:15the first day of the week. It's Sunday. What's breaking of bread?
- 24:18It's the Eucharist. If only if only people understood that the breaking of bread,
- 24:27which is how Christians celebrate their worship service, was the euchriist the Holy
- 24:34Communion, we could clear up a lot of confusion with those who get confused.
- 24:41But they'll say, no, you're just having a meal. Well,
- 24:44but you know last week when we were talking about the Euchrist, it said,
- 24:47how this bread is truly the body of Jesus. The apostle said that
- 24:52Jesus said it, and it said that. You know, as the Christians
- 24:55had their meals, their worship service, their celebration, they would take bread
- 25:00and take it to sick people who couldn't be there. Why would you do
- 25:03that if it was just bread? I mean, a little tidy wafer is
- 25:07not a meal, you know, and was at Saint Paul. I think
- 25:12who said I think it could have been James. I'm not sure. I
- 25:17just referenced this a couple of days ago, but I'm losing track now.
- 25:22The reason many are sick among you and have even died, it is because
- 25:27you ate unworthily of the bread the body of Christ. That's not symbolic,
- 25:33and it wasn't just a meal. Actually seven twenty verse seven, I should
- 25:40say, on the first day of the week, that's Sunday, they met.
- 25:44We met for breaking a bread. Paul was due to leave the next
- 25:47day and he preached a sermon that went on to the middle of the night.
- 25:51That's when people preached. Was Sunday. That's the hollowly the priest gives.
- 25:56That's why Protestant mentors serves preach on Sunday Day. They're taking part in
- 26:00a Catholic tradition without even realizing it. Let's see what the Ddak says about
- 26:07As I said, this is the first post biblical document. It's not even
- 26:11post biblical because the apostles were still alive, several of them, and we're
- 26:15writing. And the Ddak meets the writing of the twelve. Whether they wrote
- 26:18in their own hand or dictated it really as an issue. We just know
- 26:22this was done literally before the Book of Revelation was even written. The Ddac
- 26:27says, a symbol on the Lord's Day, and break bread and offer the
- 26:33Eucharist. But first make confession to your faults, of your faults, so
- 26:37that your sacrifice may be a pure one. Anyone who has a difference with
- 26:41his fellow is not take part with you until they have been reconciled, so
- 26:45as to avoid any profanation of your sacrifice. For this is the offering of
- 26:49which the lords said, everywhere, and always bring me a sacrifice as undefiled.
- 26:55For I am a great king, says the Lord, and my name
- 26:57is the wonder of all nations. So Lord's day Sunday, the day Lord
- 27:03rose, the first day of the week. Go to confession first, so
- 27:07you can receive the euchrous worthily, reconcile with those you have difference with.
- 27:11Don't let there be division in the church. There's a lot of its little
- 27:15passage, isn't there. And don't profane the sacrifice by receiving it unworthily.
- 27:22And again it's a command of God everywhere, and always bring me a sacrifice,
- 27:30says undefiled from I am a great king, says the Lord. And
- 27:33my name is the wonder of nations. It's not up for debate, you
- 27:40know. Jesus made it pretty clear. And anything he didn't make clear,
- 27:44his apostles taught. And that's why we do it. One thirty a d.
- 27:51I think it's name is Mattheates MTE t e. S wrote the first
- 27:56explanation of how Christianity differed from other religions. He is believed of being a
- 28:00student of Saint Paul, and his tone is equally condemning of Jewish religious laws
- 28:07and practices as Saint Paul. These guys were a little harsh. You got
- 28:10to remember the Judaism. The Jews were trying to destroy them at the time,
- 28:15they were trying to kill them, and they were saying anyone who didn't
- 28:19follow Jewish law had to be executed. Well they were, you know,
- 28:25they were in a battle for their very survival, and so yeah, they
- 28:29could be a little harsh sometimes, mattheis said, And next, I imagine
- 28:33that most of that you are most desirous of hearing something on this point,
- 28:37that the Christians do not observe the same forms of divine worship as the Jews.
- 28:41The Jews, then if they abstain from the kind of service above described,
- 28:45and deem it proper to worship one God as being Lord of all,
- 28:48are right. But if they offer him worship in the way which we have
- 28:52described, they greatly err. For while the Gentiles, by offering such things
- 28:56to those that are destitute of sense and here furnished an example of madness,
- 29:02they, on the other hand, by thinking to offer these things to God
- 29:04as if he needed them, might justly reckon That reckon it rather an act
- 29:10of folly than divine worship. Well, remember in the Bible says the folly
- 29:15of the Cross, and how basically the Jews with think Christians were nuts,
- 29:18they were insane. Okay, that's what he's referencing here. For he that
- 29:23made heaven and earth and all that is therein and gives us all things of
- 29:29which we stand in need, certainly requires none of these things which he himself
- 29:33bestows on, such as thinking of furnishing them to him. He's saying the
- 29:37sacrifices in the temple, Jesus said, what I wanted was mercy. I
- 29:41don't want the blood of bulls and rams. But those who okay, let's
- 29:47see, but those who imagine that by means of blood and the smoke of
- 29:49sacrifices and burnt offerings, they offer sacrifices acceptible him, and that by such
- 29:56honors they show him respect. These, by supposing that they can give anything
- 30:00him, who stands in need of nothing, appears to me in no respect
- 30:03to differ from those who studiously confer that same honor on things destitute of sense
- 30:08and which therefore unable to enjoy such honors. He's essentially comparing Jewish temple worship
- 30:15to idol worship. And as at the time it was said, and this
- 30:22is also reference in the Bible that they had come to worship the temple more
- 30:26than the God whose temple it was. The temple had become more of a
- 30:32nationalistic or ethnic sign, a symbol. And that's, you know, probably
- 30:38why Jesus called them whitewashed tombs. So it was a symbolic outward appearance as
- 30:45opposed to the inward worship that he wanted. But as to their scrupulosity concerning
- 30:51meats and their superstitions as respect to the Sabbaths, and they're boasting about circumcision
- 30:55and their fancies about fasting and new moons, which are utterly ridiculus and unworthy
- 31:00of notice. I do not think that you require to learn anything from me.
- 31:03For to accept some of those things which have been formed by God for
- 31:07the use of men improperly formed, and to reject others as useless and redundant,
- 31:12how can this be lawful? And to speak falsely of God, as
- 31:17if he forbade us to do which is good on the Sabbath days, how
- 31:21is this not impious? And to glory in the circumcision of the flesh is
- 31:25proof of election, And as if on account of it they were specially beloved
- 31:30by God, how is that not a subject of ridicule, and as they're
- 31:33observing months of day and days as if waiting upon the stars and moon,
- 31:38and they're distributing, according to their own tendencies, the appointments of God and
- 31:44the vicissitudes of the season, some for festivities and others from warning. Who
- 31:48would deem this appoint a part of divine worship and not much rather a manifestation
- 31:55of folly. I suppose then you are sufficiently convinced that Christians properly abstain for
- 32:00the vanity and error common to both jew and gentile, and from the busy
- 32:05by spirit and vain boasting of the Jews. But you must not hope to
- 32:08learn the mystery of their peculiar mode of worshiping God from any mortal Okay,
- 32:15all that complex language people used to write in I'm a Southerner. I tend
- 32:20to be plain talking. What he's saying is by one thirty a d.
- 32:24Which is the very first generation after the Crucifixion, Death, Resurrection or Lord,
- 32:34Christians had abandoned all all laws tenets of Jewish worship. They did not
- 32:44observe the Jewish Sabbath, they did not preserve Jewish holidays. It's another big
- 32:47sticking point with the tour observed Jews. They did not observe Jewish sacrifices.
- 32:53They had the Eucharis as opposed to symbolic sent offerings and peace offerings. They
- 33:00did not observe Jewish dietary practices. They ate pork. If they wanted to
- 33:05eat pork, it was not a big deal. They ate shellfish. And
- 33:08they didn't practice circumcision. Christians were really help spoken against circumcision for quite a
- 33:15while. I'm not really sure how that practice got back into modern practice.
- 33:21It's it's absolutely unnecessary and frankly injurious to a child. But anyway, to
- 33:30the Magnesians, Saint Ignatious specifically explain why Christians should no longer keep the Jewish
- 33:36Sabbath, but must worship Christ on Sunday. This is say Ignatious. He's
- 33:42one of the most important figures in the early Church. Again, I mean,
- 33:45he's maybe the third, second, or third of all the post Apostolic
- 33:52Church followers to write, and he wrote a lot of letters. He was
- 33:55a bishop, and he said, be not deceived with strange doctrine, or
- 34:00give heed to fables and endless genealogies. That's a quote from the Bible and
- 34:04things in which the Jews make their boast. Old things are passed away.
- 34:08Behold, all things have become new. That's a quote from Jesus. For
- 34:14if we still live according to the Jewish law and the circumcision of the flesh,
- 34:20we deny that we have received grace. For the divinest prophets lived according
- 34:23to Jesus Christ. On this account also they are persecuted, being inspired by
- 34:30grace to fully convince the unbelieving that there is one God, the Almighty,
- 34:34who has manifested himself by Jesus Christ's son, who is his word, not
- 34:38spoken, but essential. For he is not the voice of an articulate utterance,
- 34:44but a substance begotten by divine power, who has in all things pleased
- 34:49him that sent him. If therefore, those who are brought up in the
- 34:52ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no
- 34:55longer observing the Sabbath, but living observeth in observed of the Lord's day,
- 35:00on which also our life has sprung up by him and by his death,
- 35:06whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore to
- 35:10endure that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only master.
- 35:15How shall we be able to live apart from him, whose disciples,
- 35:20the prophets themselves and the spirit did wait for him as their teacher. And
- 35:23therefore he whom they rightly waited for being come raised him from the dead.
- 35:30If then those who were conversant with ancient scripture came to the newness of hope
- 35:35expecting the coming of Christ. As the Lord teaches us what he says.
- 35:37Again, if ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for
- 35:42he wrote of me and again for your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day,
- 35:46and he saw it and was glad. For before Abraham I was how
- 35:51shall we be able to live without him? The prophets were his servants,
- 35:54and he foresaw him, and foresaw him by the spirit, and waited for
- 36:00him as their teacher, and expected him as their Lord and savior, saying
- 36:05he will come and save us. Let us therefore no longer keep the Sabbath
- 36:08after the Jewish manner, and rejoice in days of idleness. For he that
- 36:14does not work, let him not eat. It's another Bible quote, for
- 36:17say, the Holy Oracles in the sweat of thy face, shall they eat
- 36:21thy bread? It's from Genesis. But let everyone if you keep the Sabbath
- 36:27after a spiritual manner, rejoicing in meditation on the law, not in relaxation
- 36:32of the body, admiring the workmanship of God, and not eating things prepared
- 36:37the day before, nor using lukewarm drinks. Remember, you couldn't cook on
- 36:42the Jewish Sabbath, and so he would saying you could actually cook and eat
- 36:45that day, and walking within a prescribed space. They had limits on how
- 36:50far you could walk on the Sabbath, nor finding delight and dancing and plaudits
- 36:54which have no sense in them. And after the observance of the Sabbath,
- 36:58let every friend of Rice keep the Lord's Day as a festival, the resurrection
- 37:02Day. The queen in chief of all the days of the week, celebrate
- 37:06on Sunday. I mean it was Sunday. It's supposed to be a day
- 37:09with family and feasting after Mass. Looking forward to this, the prophet declared
- 37:16to the end for the eighth day on which our life both sprung up and
- 37:21again, and the victory of her death was obtained in Christ, whom the
- 37:24children of Perdition, the enemies of the Savior, deny whose God is their
- 37:29belly, whose mind earthly things, who are lovers of pleasure, not lovers
- 37:32of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof These
- 37:37make merchandise of Christ, corrupting his word and giving up Jesus to sail.
- 37:43They are corruptors of women, in covetousness, and covetous of other men's possessions,
- 37:47swallowing up wealth insatiably from whom you may be delivered by the mercy of
- 37:52God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us not there therefore be insensible to
- 37:58His kindness, For were He to reward us according to our works, we
- 38:02should cease to be. If thou Lord shalt mark iniquities, who Lord shall
- 38:08stand belt was King David who said that let us therefore prove ourselves worthy of
- 38:14that name which we have received. For whosoever is called by any other name,
- 38:17besides this is not by God, for he has not received the prophecy
- 38:22which speaks thus concerning us. Concerning us, the people shall be called by
- 38:27a new name, which the Lord shall call them, and shall be a
- 38:30holy people. This was first fulfilled in Syria. Disciples were called Christians at
- 38:35Antioch when Paul and Peter were laying the foundations of the Church lay aside.
- 38:39Therefore the evil, the old, the corrupt, Lovin and be ye changed
- 38:44into the new living of grace, abiding Christ the stranger may not have dominion
- 38:49over you. It is absurd to speak of Jesus Christ with the tongue and
- 38:52cherish the mind, a mind and cherishing the mind a judaism, which has
- 38:57now come to an end. Where there is Christianity, there cannot be Judaism.
- 39:04For Christ is one in whom every nation that believes, in every tongue
- 39:07that confesses, is gathered unto God. And those that were of a stony
- 39:10heart have become the children of Abraham, the friend of God, and in
- 39:15his seed all have been blessed who are ordained to eternal life in Christ.
- 39:21I mean, I think it makes it pretty or unclear right there. He
- 39:23said, Nope, nope, no more Jewish Sabbath, no more Jewish law.
- 39:28Where Christianity exists, Judaism cannot exist. He doesn't mean the two can't
- 39:34live side by side, as we certainly can, but he means in the
- 39:37heart of the Christian there is no longer a Jewish law to be observed.
- 39:42In fact, it is anathema to Christianity to continue to follow the Mosaic the
- 39:49Torah law to the trillions, he said even more succinctly, on the day
- 39:54of Preparation. Then at the third hour he received the sentence from Pilot Highlight.
- 40:00The Father permitted that to happen. At the sixth hour he was crucified.
- 40:04At the ninth hour he gave up the ghost, and before sunset he
- 40:07was buried. During the Sabbath he continued under the earth and the tomb which
- 40:13Joseph of Arimathea had laid him. At the dawning of the Lord's Day,
- 40:16he arose from the dead, according to what was spoken by himself. As
- 40:21Jonah was three days and three nights in the wales bellies, so shall the
- 40:23Son of Man be also three days and three nights in the heart of the
- 40:28earth. The day of Preparation then comprises the passion. The Sabbath embraces the
- 40:32burial. The Lord's Day contains the resurrection. The Sabbath of the Jews was
- 40:43made dead by Jesus. The Sabbath embraces the burial. That was the day
- 40:49he laid at rest in accordance with the law. Actually, I mean it's
- 40:52very another one of those important interesting points that many of the saints have pointed
- 40:58out. And on the New Day, the following day is the Resurrection,
- 41:05where the new man under the new law celebrates the new Sabbath of the Lord.
- 41:12Sunday, Saint Justin Martyr wrote, I don't even know two decades later.
- 41:17I mean, they're pretty much contemporaries. And as I've said, he's
- 41:22his rights, just fantastic. He was a Greek philosopher who became a Christian
- 41:28and was really the first apologist. And in his dialogue with Trypho, a
- 41:32religious Jew who had no regard for Christianity whatsoever, he brought Tripho in to
- 41:39conversion. He convinced the Jews by arguing from the scriptures from the Old Testament
- 41:46proving that Jesus was Lord. And he said specifically of the Sabbath, because
- 41:54Tripho said, you cannot, you cannot be a godly people. You don't
- 41:58observe our Jewish Sabbath. You're going to hell in other words, and he
- 42:01said, no, the Law of Moses is known more. Jesus is the
- 42:07completion of the law He's the perfection of the law. And we are now
- 42:10under a new covenant and a new law, he said. And afterwards,
- 42:17and we afterwards continually remind each other of these things. And the wealthy among
- 42:22us help the needy, and we always keep together and for all things wherewith
- 42:25we are supplied. We bless the maker of all through his son Jesus Christ,
- 42:30and through the Holy Ghost. And on the day called Sunday, all
- 42:32who live in cities are in the country gather together in one place, and
- 42:37the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read as long
- 42:40as time permits. Then when the reader has ceased, the president, he
- 42:47is the leader of the priest, essentially, the leader of the worship,
- 42:52verbally instructs and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. It's a homely
- 42:57in other words, they read the Bible. Then they give a hoamling what
- 42:59is this? I'm like sounds like mass doesn't. Then we all rise together
- 43:02and pray. And as we before said, when our prayers ended, bread
- 43:07and wine and water are brought, and the President, in like manner,
- 43:10offers prayers and thanksgivings. This way of speaking means presider. It means the
- 43:17one presiding over the ceremony. It's the priest. Okay, I know it's
- 43:22an odd word in our in our modern parlance, but that's what he means.
- 43:27And the president and men are offers prayers and thanksgiving according to his ability,
- 43:31and the people are sent saying amen. And there is a distribution to
- 43:36each and a participation of that over which thanks has been given. And to
- 43:40those who are absent, a portion is sent by the deacons, you know,
- 43:44just like we do now. We take some of the Eucharist to the
- 43:45sick and the shut ends that can't make it in the mass, and they
- 43:50who are well to do and willing give what each thinks is fit. In
- 43:53other words, there was an offertory, and what is collected is deposited by
- 43:58the president who suckers the orphans and widows, and those who, through sickness
- 44:02or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds,
- 44:07and the strangers sojering among us, and in a word, takes care
- 44:09of all who are in need. Very important. That's actually how the church
- 44:14established and grew. They took care of the sick and the poor and travelers.
- 44:17They did charitable acts for non Christians and thus converted ancient Rome and Greece.
- 44:25I mean, yeah, that's really very important. I mean, I
- 44:31know, well, okay, let me just put it this way. I
- 44:34was in a church one time I worked in the church was a Methodist church,
- 44:37and the priest, i mean the minister, the Methodist minister put in
- 44:42the bulletin how you should give out of your need because it's your duty to
- 44:45support the minister and his family. Well, that minister and his family were
- 44:50living in pretty good luxury. In fact, I don't think any one of
- 44:52them, which is about he his wife, and their seven adopted sons,
- 44:59so they got were the five it was five adopted sod So anyway, they
- 45:02got moneys through the state, and that was probably the only reason they adopted
- 45:07them. They were all at least over two hundred and fifty three hundred pounds
- 45:10and driving Cadillacs and doing pretty well. So people got a little annoyed at
- 45:16being continually done for money, as they said, you know, that's really
- 45:21not what the offera tory was for. There's a reason a Catholic priest's tastes
- 45:24about poverty. The money's actually supposed to go to the poor and the widows
- 45:29and the orphans. And you know, frankly, if more of the money
- 45:32in the Catholic Church was going to the poor and the widows and the orphans
- 45:37right now, we'd probably be in a little bit better place. You know.
- 45:45I remember there was a priest one time that really just laid He's like,
- 45:49this is the wealth of the Catholic Church, and I'm sorry it's being
- 45:52misspent. We need It's good. We need to have these beautiful churches dedicated
- 45:57to God. We need to have this artwork dedicated to God. But we
- 46:00need to be spending less on luxury and more on the sick of the poor
- 46:07and the abandon And he made a very convincing argument, a very convincing argument.
- 46:13And once again I will say, do not give money to Catholic charities
- 46:16who are using it to break the law and facilitate human trafficking and child sex
- 46:22slavery. Give money to those Catholic charities, Not Catholic charities you know with
- 46:30big capital letters, but those charities like Hands Together for Haiti that actually takes
- 46:36money and gives to starving people. Be careful who you give money to.
- 46:40Next time the second collection comes by your church for Catholic Charities. Write a
- 46:45note on a piece of paper saying, not one cent for the irmoral,
- 46:52evil organization called Catholic Charities, which is facilitating drug trafficking, women smuggling,
- 47:00and the worst abuses of children and women. My opinion, you can agree
- 47:06or not take it or leave it all right. So to finish what he
- 47:08said, after he said giving money to those who were in need, he
- 47:14said, but Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly.
- 47:17Think about this now, this is what essay, one seventy a d
- 47:20something like that, all Christians on earth went to Mass on Sunday. We
- 47:27all hold our common assembly. There was no fringe group, there was no
- 47:30sect, there was no you know, group that was truly Christian. And
- 47:35all the other Christians weren't as some remnant as they say, No, this
- 47:39was the first church. You can't have a remnant from the first. And
- 47:44universally all Christians hold our common assembly assembly on Sunday, because, as he
- 47:52said, this is the first day on which God, having wrought a change
- 47:57in the darkness and matter, made the world, and Jesus Christ, our
- 48:00Savior, on the same day, rose from the dead for he was crucified
- 48:06on the day before that of Saturn or Saturday, and on that day after
- 48:09that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun. Having appeared to
- 48:14his apostles and disciples, he taught them these things, which we have submitted
- 48:17to you also for your consideration. So we can look there at Saint Justin
- 48:24Martyr, we can go back to the DK. We can see what was
- 48:30foreshadowed. I guess you would say in the Bible. When the apostles wrote
- 48:34the Bible, they did not write it as a manual for Christian worship.
- 48:38They wrote it so you would believe in God and through God, believe in
- 48:43them and their authority that He granted them for their church. So it's really
- 48:49very clear. And as I said, if you're talking with someone who is,
- 48:54you know, a very zealous person, what is it Jesus zealots or
- 49:00vexations on the soul? I believe, well, the actually Jesus words,
- 49:07they're not going to listen to you. You're going to have to convince them
- 49:09to read the earliest writings of the Church. If they will not believe anything
- 49:15that's outside of the pages of the Bible, good luck with it. So
- 49:20all we can do is treat them charitably and be nice and be friends with
- 49:22them, and work together where we can and disagree respectfully on the things we
- 49:28can't pray for them. That's always part of our charity as Christians, as
- 49:32Catholics is to pray for even the worst people. And usually these people are
- 49:37pretty good. But I mean, you're gonna have to figure out if you're
- 49:44going to actually do what Jess said, figure out how to pray for Charles
- 49:45Manson and Adolf Hitler. Okay, that is something we're supposed to do at
- 49:52our charity. Maybe not specifically by name, but I mean people that are
- 49:54easily even that bad. But usually these are pretty good people. They just
- 50:00are very opinionated and very misguided and not narrow minded, but absolutely closed minded.
- 50:06You could not break into that mind with a hammer and a chisel and
- 50:08a crowbar. So just say, I'm sorry. We're gonna have to agree
- 50:14to disagree. If you're interested in knowing why I believe what I believe and
- 50:17practicing how I do, I'm glad to tell you. But otherwise I don't
- 50:24believe what you're saying is of God, because you know God can't be in
- 50:30disagreement with his church, and he guaranteed the church against all error and good
- 50:35luck to convinced with them on that either. But through the example of your
- 50:38life, and your charity, and your goodness and your kindness to others,
- 50:45you may convince them far more than any of your words ever will. So,
- 50:50as always in the words of Saint Padrepia, pray, hope and don't
- 50:53worry, and I will talk to you tomorrow.
