- 0:00Speaker 1: Typically my experience being out on the road is a liberating, creative,
- 0:07Speaker 1: like great experience. It gives me hours of possibility to
- 0:11Speaker 1: pick up the phone, well, not pick up the phone
- 0:12Speaker 1: because that's illegal in Australia, but like call through the radio,
- 0:16Speaker 1: through the Bluetooth, call a friend, reach out. If a
- 0:20Speaker 1: friend's name just, when I'm driving, if a friend's name
- 0:23Speaker 1: pops into my head, do you know what I do?
- 0:24Speaker 1: I tell Siri to call them. Oh, wow. You know,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I don't care if they answer, but I'm always like,
- 0:29Speaker 1: like last night, A mate of mine, I haven't spoken
- 0:31Speaker 1: to him in a few months, he popped into my head.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So I just told my phone, call that person. He answered.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And I'm like, hey, how are you doing? He goes, yeah, yeah, good.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm not calling for anything other than the
- 0:41Speaker 1: fact that you popped into my head. How are you doing?
- 0:43Speaker 1: You good?
- 0:45Speaker 2: You know?
- 0:45Speaker 1: And so being on the road gives me that ability
- 0:48Speaker 1: to do that. If I'm at home or in an office,
- 0:50Speaker 1: you don't have the ability to just call up a friend.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So I think being a truck driver has really cemented
- 0:57Speaker 1: some like lifelong friendships, especially with other truck drivers because
- 1:01Speaker 1: we all just got all this time on our hands.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You can speak for three hours with a mate and
- 1:06Speaker 1: it's gone like that, you know, and you're just chatting away.
- 1:09Speaker 1: You're pondering the world with that person. My social media
- 1:16Speaker 1: was born, the idea of my social media was born
- 1:19Speaker 1: in my head from driving and seeing scenarios and being like, oh,
- 1:23Speaker 1: Or like seeing a sunset and be like, imagine a
- 1:25Speaker 1: drone shot with this truck going through here. Oh, imagine that.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Or like I'd be listening to music and be like,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and I'd just like start creating these like movie scenes
- 1:34Speaker 1: kind of thing, you know, with this music in the background.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And that's where Chopping With DJ was really born because
- 1:41Speaker 1: I was like, I want to capture this beauty that
- 1:44Speaker 1: no one gets to see. Like no one understands that
- 1:46Speaker 1: this is our existence. We do this every day. We
- 1:50Speaker 1: get to see these gorgeous landscapes continuously changing I would
- 1:54Speaker 1: love to share that with others. So most of the time,
- 1:58Speaker 1: like right now, I'm chomping at the bit to get
- 2:01Speaker 1: out of here. I can't wait to get in my
- 2:03Speaker 1: truck and go for three weeks. It's just going to
- 2:05Speaker 1: be great because if I'm sitting in my office and
- 2:08Speaker 1: trying to curate content, it won't happen. I'm not a
- 2:12Speaker 1: content creator who can plan and schedule content. For me,
- 2:15Speaker 1: it's like I'll go trucking, I'll film, I'll have my
- 2:18Speaker 1: cameras on, and from that I'll create content organically it's
- 2:23Speaker 1: just going to be things that i come across nothing's
- 2:25Speaker 1: staged nothing's planned it just is what it is and
- 2:28Speaker 1: i'm just bringing people along for the ride so again
- 2:32Speaker 1: you can have a negative experience you could be doing
- 2:34Speaker 1: night shift in the middle of the outback with no
- 2:35Speaker 1: frame reception for 10 hours and you can get really
- 2:38Speaker 1: dark yeah or you can have an experience where like
- 2:42Speaker 1: your mindset is in a different you've got a different
- 2:44Speaker 1: lens on you've got the pink lens or you've got
- 2:46Speaker 1: the red lens you know um but also i heard
- 2:50Speaker 1: i don't know who said it i think it's like
- 2:52Speaker 1: a monk a monk saying of like um loneliness is
- 2:58Speaker 1: is only like uh i'm i butchered it already but
- 3:02Speaker 1: you could think of it as loneliness or you could
- 3:04Speaker 1: think of it as um solitude you know isolation loneliness
- 3:09Speaker 1: or is it solitude for me i see it's a
- 3:12Speaker 1: it's time for me to reset my nervous system reset
- 3:15Speaker 1: my brain, get creative, reconnect with people who have been
- 3:18Speaker 1: too busy when you're in this city sphere to catch
- 3:23Speaker 1: up with and just can reconnect and have those moments.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So for me, it's typically a really beautiful experience. But
- 3:31Speaker 1: if your mental wellness is struggling, like it can spiral.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I was talking to a mate and he's going through
- 3:36Speaker 1: a lot and I said, I don't think this is
- 3:37Speaker 1: the time for you to go back on the highway
- 3:39Speaker 1: because you're just going to have too much time to
- 3:41Speaker 1: ruminate on these thoughts. You need to, get everything sorted
- 3:44Speaker 1: at home before you go back out on the highway. Otherwise,
- 3:46Speaker 1: you're going to spiral and it's dangerous to be out
- 3:48Speaker 1: there if you're not in the right mindset. Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And also, I mean, that can happen for a lot
- 3:55Speaker 2: of jobs, not just trucking. So it's true.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Can I ask?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Sorry, if you're in retail and you're in a good mindset,
- 4:05Speaker 1: your experience is going to be great. If someone looks
- 4:06Speaker 1: at you a bit weird, you'll be like, are you okay? Like,
- 4:08Speaker 1: how can I help you? If someone looks at you
- 4:10Speaker 1: in a bad way, you'll be like.
- 4:12Speaker 2: my God, they hate me.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Like you're an, you know, like you could just like
- 4:16Speaker 1: completely take the same situation and have completely different reactions
- 4:20Speaker 1: to it.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Now, can I ask, do women have a different experience
- 4:25Speaker 2: protection safety wise than men do on the road? Like,
- 4:28Speaker 2: is it, do it, does a woman need to be
- 4:30Speaker 2: more cautious or careful when she's truck driving as compared
- 4:33Speaker 2: to if a man was truck driving?
- 4:37Speaker 1: Hmm.
