- 0:21Speaker 1: It is time to leave your worries outside and come
- 0:25Speaker 1: laugh with us inside the Treehouse. I'm Daniel Malley along
- 0:29Speaker 1: with Trey Trenholm and Raj Sharma. We will get to
- 0:35Speaker 1: some laughs today. I promise you we will have a
- 0:38Speaker 1: good time on this Labor Day episode of the Treehouse.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But we do need to discuss a major thing that
- 0:45Speaker 1: happened just a few days ago in the city of Dallas.
- 0:52Speaker 1: As stewards of the Listeners Foundation, it is our job
- 0:56Speaker 1: to take our money and disperse it to the families
- 1:04Speaker 1: of fallen police officers and firefighters in DYFW killed in
- 1:10Speaker 1: the line of duty. And while we just did that
- 1:15Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago, Friday morning, we woke up
- 1:19Speaker 1: to the news that we were going to have to
- 1:20Speaker 1: do it again. I've said this many times and I'll
- 1:26Speaker 1: say it again. I'll keep saying it as long as
- 1:28Speaker 1: we have to. I hate that we have to do it,
- 1:34Speaker 1: but I'm proud that we get to. And so on
- 1:39Speaker 1: Friday morning, Dallas police officer Darren Burks was shot and killed,
- 1:44Speaker 1: along with two other responding officers who were also injured
- 1:49Speaker 1: in that shooting, and according to Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia,
- 1:57Speaker 1: it could have been worse, and without sharing too many
- 2:00Speaker 1: of the details because it's not our place to do it,
- 2:04Speaker 1: things that we have heard from police sources is that's
- 2:07Speaker 1: very accurate. It could have been way worse. As it stands,
- 2:11Speaker 1: it was extremely bad and losing officer Berks, who was
- 2:16Speaker 1: a math teacher before becoming a police officer.
- 2:23Speaker 2: A math teacher at the can Academy.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Oh well, we'll dig in a little bit more into
- 2:33Speaker 1: his story here in just a little bit. But let
- 2:36Speaker 1: me just reset quickly as to what happened Thursday night
- 2:43Speaker 1: Friday morning. This from WFAA. An officer with the Dallas
- 2:48Speaker 1: Police Department was shot and killed Thursday evening and two
- 2:51Speaker 1: other officers were injured in the same incident. According to officials,
- 2:55Speaker 1: around ten ten pm, DPD SET officers responded to an
- 2:58Speaker 1: officer in distress in the nine hundred block of East
- 3:02Speaker 1: Ladbetter Drive. Upon arriving at the scene, police said the
- 3:04Speaker 1: responding officers and the parking lot outside of the facilities
- 3:07Speaker 1: of the community organization for oak Cliffe. That's actually what
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's called for. Oak Cliffe found a suspect near a
- 3:14Speaker 1: squad car belonging to Rookie Dallas Police officer Darren Burks,
- 3:18Speaker 1: who had been shot. During a press conference on Friday afternoon,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Chief Eddie Garcia had this to say, mab me just
- 3:29Speaker 1: a moment to pull this up.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I know that the word ambush has been thrown around
- 3:37Speaker 3: in the last twenty four hours or so.
- 3:39Speaker 1: That's not what happened here.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Officer Burks was executed. Our officers were targeted by this coward.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Our detectives have.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Learned from social media that three days ago Cobb Bay
- 3:51Speaker 3: approached an unmarked squad car of an unknown law enforcement
- 3:54Speaker 3: agency and recorded as he questioned the officers about why
- 3:58Speaker 3: they were parked there, expressed.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Problems with his personal and professional life.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Online, and one day ago he made a post indicating
- 4:06Speaker 3: an event was happening on Friday. The investigation determined last
- 4:10Speaker 3: night was premeditated, again for no other reason than the
- 4:14Speaker 3: uniform we wear that my men and women probably wear.
- 4:19Speaker 1: So there you have it from Dallas Police Chief Eddie
- 4:22Speaker 1: Garcia that these officers were targeted in an attack by
- 4:29Speaker 1: the suspect. And obviously I'll lead the name in for
- 4:33Speaker 1: a Chief Garcia to use, but I'm not saying it.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So it's obviously a horrific story. Let me get back
- 4:45Speaker 1: to the let me get back to what originally transpired
- 4:47Speaker 1: Thursday night into Friday morning. Shortly after Burkes was shot,
- 4:56Speaker 1: a police dispatcher noticed something was wrong over his radio
- 4:59Speaker 1: and sent Senior Corporal Jamie Farmer and Senior Corporal Curis
- 5:02Speaker 1: had David to the scene to investigate. Farmer responded first,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and the suspect immediately fired a handgun. While Farmer returned fire,
- 5:11Speaker 1: he was hit once in the leg. Chief Garcia said
- 5:18Speaker 1: that Senior Corporal Curis had David responded, ran up to
- 5:23Speaker 1: and shot at her multiple times. The suspect did She
- 5:27Speaker 1: returned fire, but was hit in the face during the exchange.
- 5:31Speaker 1: She is the one that's believes. She's still listed in
- 5:34Speaker 1: critical condition, but her injuries are not life threatening. All
- 5:40Speaker 1: three officers shot Thursday night were with the South Central
- 5:42Speaker 1: Patrol Division. In the wake of those initial shootings had
- 5:45Speaker 1: chastened suit, with law enforcement pursuing the suspect as he
- 5:48Speaker 1: traveled north from Dallas along I thirty five E. Along
- 5:51Speaker 1: that pursuit, the Lewisville Police Department was called into assist EPD, and,
- 5:55Speaker 1: according to an email obtained by WFAA from the Lewisville
- 5:59Speaker 1: Police Chief to his staff. The suspect was chased by
- 6:02Speaker 1: police to Lewisville and then fatally shot in the one
- 6:05Speaker 1: thousand block of Stemons Freeway by Dallas Police officers. The
- 6:08Speaker 1: Lewisville chief said his officers did not use their weapons,
- 6:13Speaker 1: so the suspect was killed in Lewisville by pursuing Dallas
- 6:18Speaker 1: police officers. So Friday morning, we all wake up to
- 6:22Speaker 1: the news that Dallas Police officer Darren Burks was killed
- 6:27Speaker 1: in the line of duty in horrific fashion. And the
- 6:33Speaker 1: Foundation responded as it does by mobilizing, making sure that
- 6:40Speaker 1: we have things in place, which we do making sure
- 6:44Speaker 1: that funds from your foundation get into the hands of
- 6:48Speaker 1: the family of an officer or firefighter when they're killed
- 6:51Speaker 1: in the line of duty. And that was completed by
- 6:55Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon board members from the Foundation, Captain Mark Howard
- 7:01Speaker 1: from Dallas County Sheriff's Office retired, and our very own
- 7:04Speaker 1: trade Tronholme, delivered a check to DPD headquarters for Darren
- 7:09Speaker 1: Burks's family, along with a letter to Chief Garcia, which
- 7:14Speaker 1: I'll share with you in case you hadn't seen it
- 7:16Speaker 1: on social media, dated August thirty of twenty twenty four.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Addressed to Chief Eddie Garcia of the Dallas Police Department.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Chief Garcia, please accept our some serious condolences on the
- 7:25Speaker 1: loss of Dallas Police Officer Darren Burks. Although his life
- 7:29Speaker 1: ended on August twenty ninth, twenty twenty four, his name
- 7:31Speaker 1: and his story will be remembered on behalf of the
- 7:35Speaker 1: listeners of the Treehouse Podcast and the former Russ Martin Show.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Please accept this check for Officer Burke's family. We hope
- 7:42Speaker 1: it provides any immediate financial needs the family may have
- 7:45Speaker 1: in the aftermath of this tragedy. Officer Burke's selfless commitment
- 7:49Speaker 1: to his community, first as a teacher and then as
- 7:52Speaker 1: a police officer should be celebrated and shown as an
- 7:56Speaker 1: example to us all. We grieve with your officers and
- 8:01Speaker 1: all who support our first responders. Sincerely, Daniel Maley, Trade Trenholm,
- 8:05Speaker 1: Captain Mark Howard, the RMS Treehouse Listeners Foundation, and then
- 8:10Speaker 1: a check for forty thousand dollars accompany that letter to
- 8:14Speaker 1: the surviving members of Officer Burkes's family. So thank you
- 8:18Speaker 1: to those that have donated throughout the years and to
- 8:22Speaker 1: those who continue to donate to the foundation, and just
- 8:25Speaker 1: know that your money is still going to where it's
- 8:27Speaker 1: intended and going back to what you were saying, Trey,
- 8:30Speaker 1: which is vastly important in this situation. When when I
- 8:36Speaker 1: first heard that he was a rookie, I was like,
- 8:37Speaker 1: oh my god, you know, it's just someone that's going
- 8:39Speaker 1: to be so young, just at beginning of life and
- 8:41Speaker 1: all these sorts of things. Then to find out that
- 8:43Speaker 1: this rookie was forty six years old, had just recently
- 8:49Speaker 1: finished his training, and before he decided to put on
- 8:55Speaker 1: the uniform, he was a math teacher, and Trey, I
- 8:59Speaker 1: didn't know until you mentioned that he was a math
- 9:00Speaker 1: teacher at the cant Academy, which specifically helps troubled youths
- 9:07Speaker 1: in finishing their high school degrees.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I think that's what just really got me, is the
- 9:11Speaker 2: fact that he's our age and to you read his
- 9:16Speaker 2: story and he wanted he didn't feel like he was
- 9:21Speaker 2: giving enough and wanted to give more to the community,
- 9:23Speaker 2: so he quits being a teacher at the can Academy
- 9:27Speaker 2: and becomes a police officer. I mean, that's just it's unbelievable.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Most of us can can't even be bothered to pick
- 9:37Speaker 1: up a gum wrapper we see on the street and
- 9:42Speaker 1: this guy's teaching troubled kids and deciding, you know what,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I can do more. And I remember after July seventh,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and then Dallas Police Chief Brown told people because when
- 9:58Speaker 1: those five officers in Dallas were shot, four DPD and
- 10:02Speaker 1: one guard officer, all killed at a protest against police.
- 10:10Speaker 1: So police officers protecting a First Amendment protected situation to
- 10:17Speaker 1: protest them, they got murdered at and some of those
- 10:21Speaker 1: some of those officers that were there protecting the citizens
- 10:25Speaker 1: that had been protesting the mere minutes prior when when
- 10:28Speaker 1: the shooting erupted. After all that happened, Chief Brown goes
- 10:32Speaker 1: on television and he says, join us, if you don't
- 10:38Speaker 1: like what's happening, do something about it. Join us be
- 10:44Speaker 1: the change you seek in the world. Don't just bitch
- 10:46Speaker 1: about it. And I don't think he said that exactly.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That's more about twist on it, but that's that's the
- 10:51Speaker 1: spirit of what he said. And it's true. We all
- 10:53Speaker 1: can complain about all these things, but if we don't
- 10:55Speaker 1: do anything about them, then all we're doing is bitching.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Darren Burks did something. He was already doing something, and
- 11:05Speaker 1: then he decided, you know what, Sure, I think I
- 11:08Speaker 1: think I've taught all the math I need to these
- 11:10Speaker 1: kids in this community. I can do more. And so
- 11:14Speaker 1: he did, and someone responded differently, and simply because he
- 11:24Speaker 1: decided to put on a uniform, he got targeted. And uh,
- 11:28Speaker 1: it's it's just a sad state of affairs. Look, I
- 11:31Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know a single police officer that
- 11:33Speaker 1: will tell you that the profession is without problems. It is.
- 11:39Speaker 1: They know it. All the all the good cops we've
- 11:42Speaker 1: known for years have all said, Jesus, we hate the
- 11:44Speaker 1: bad ones because it brings us all down. And these
- 11:47Speaker 1: are the things that happen. So again, like like like,
- 11:54Speaker 1: like we put in that letter to Chief Garcia, I
- 11:58Speaker 1: hope that the way Officer Burke's life ended is not
- 12:03Speaker 1: what we all remember, but instead what he gave in
- 12:08Speaker 1: his life, what his actual story was, and that was,
- 12:12Speaker 1: to me, a story of commitment and doing good for others.
- 12:18Speaker 1: And I hope that's what most everyone remembers out of this.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and striving to do more.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'll be honest, and I suck at that,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know. I mean, I'll put every ounce of effort
- 12:36Speaker 1: I have into my job into doing certain things for
- 12:39Speaker 1: myself doing certain things for this show, and I don't
- 12:45Speaker 1: leave a whole lot else for other people. I am
- 12:48Speaker 1: selfish in that way. I'm not the most selfish person
- 12:51Speaker 1: I know, and certainly not the most selfish person I've
- 12:53Speaker 1: ever known. But you know, I think we're all a
- 12:56Speaker 1: little bit selfish, and this is a very star reminder
- 13:00Speaker 1: that that I can I can do more, and I
- 13:03Speaker 1: can be more.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but here's here's the other thing. That's just you
- 13:06Speaker 2: said it earlier. You're like, most of us can't be
- 13:08Speaker 2: bothered to pick up a gun wrapper gum. I'm sorry,
- 13:12Speaker 2: gum wrapper of it.
- 13:13Speaker 1: But if you see a gun wrapper, please pick that up.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I actually don't pick it up. Call Call, call police,
- 13:19Speaker 1: because I might be evidence.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Another thing that makes you know, Officer Burke's story remarkable
- 13:23Speaker 2: is at our age picking up a gum wrapper and
- 13:26Speaker 2: you know, can be you know, something that hurts us
- 13:28Speaker 2: for six weeks throwing out our back he went to
- 13:31Speaker 2: the academy.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's an excellent point, Tray, I think it was.
- 13:37Speaker 1: It was the other day. I was sitting right here
- 13:39Speaker 1: and as I was waiting for my computer to turn on,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I did this. I went like and I did like
- 13:44Speaker 1: a little backstretch thing and and and I popped a
- 13:46Speaker 1: rib outed This man went and is chasing down criminals
- 13:52Speaker 1: and stuff. I can't even wrap my brain around that.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I I pulled. I was on the couch for
- 13:56Speaker 4: two days because I I was folding laundry and uh,
- 14:00Speaker 4: I snapped a T shirt to get the wrinkles out.
- 14:03Speaker 4: That was it. Tigerbaum on the college for two days,
- 14:08Speaker 4: and he went through the whole program and all the
- 14:13Speaker 4: requirements that you know, and you're you know, at forty six.
- 14:16Speaker 4: He's also in there with you know, twenty one year
- 14:18Speaker 4: olds and twenty two year olds and twenty five year olds,
- 14:20Speaker 4: so people substantially younger than him and came out and
- 14:23Speaker 4: and just the just a wanting to do more is
- 14:27Speaker 4: just remarkable. And yeah, that's just an amazing story and
- 14:32Speaker 4: such a tragic into what an amazing story.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So we expressed our sinceres condolences to the chief, and
- 14:42Speaker 1: we want to do that here verbally as well, not
- 14:47Speaker 1: just to him, not just to the Dallas Police Department
- 14:49Speaker 1: and its officers, but you know, all of our first
- 14:53Speaker 1: responders who are doing more than the rest of us do,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and it's appreciated and we are we appreciate you, the listeners, for,
- 15:02Speaker 1: as I said, not only for donating in the past,
- 15:05Speaker 1: but continuing to donate to this foundation, which is still
- 15:08Speaker 1: very operational and very strong because of you. And as
- 15:12Speaker 1: long as you keep putting money into it, we'll keep
- 15:15Speaker 1: putting it into the hands of those who need it most.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And that's for now all I've got to say about that.
- 15:22Speaker 1: At the time that we've recorded this and it publishes,
- 15:25Speaker 1: you know on Labor Day, the funeral will happen on
- 15:30Speaker 1: everything this week, and so we can all take this
- 15:34Speaker 1: time to think about things that we could do that
- 15:36Speaker 1: could be a little bit more and at the same
- 15:38Speaker 1: time honor a man, not just because he died, but
- 15:43Speaker 1: honoring him for how we lived.
- 16:35Speaker 5: Hope of Uh. Yeah, you're in the Treehouse. Visit us
- 18:18Speaker 5: online at Treehouse OnAir dot com.
- 18:27Speaker 1: This segment of the Treehouse is brought to you by
- 18:29Speaker 1: fair Lease. If you're ready for a new car, and
- 18:31Speaker 1: you also want to save time and money going through
- 18:34Speaker 1: that process, then you should get a hold of our
- 18:37Speaker 1: friends at Fairlea's for the next new vehicle number one.
- 18:40Speaker 1: You can save the time with Fairleas because you can
- 18:42Speaker 1: handle everything remotely. You can shop online you can talk
- 18:46Speaker 1: to your consultant via the phone or email. You never
- 18:48Speaker 1: even have to touch them or see them if you
- 18:50Speaker 1: don't want to. So that's you can save a bunch
- 18:52Speaker 1: of time, especially compared to a dealership that can take forever.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Then the money wise is leasing costs less than buying
- 18:59Speaker 1: because you're just paying for the least portion of the
- 19:01Speaker 1: vehicle instead of buying the whole thing. They can explain
- 19:03Speaker 1: it to you much better than I can. So give
- 19:05Speaker 1: him a call. Go to fairlease dot org. That's fair
- 19:07Speaker 1: lease dot org. All right, I know of a surefire
- 19:14Speaker 1: away to pull us back into a treehouse full of
- 19:19Speaker 1: stupid you boys. Ready, there we go. An orangutan swung
- 19:30Speaker 1: in cartwheel like motions before climbing down a tower to
- 19:34Speaker 1: escape the Toronto Zoo.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Yeah, that'll do it.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I really do like to think that the the other
- 19:44Speaker 1: apes and the enclosure slow clapped him like a high
- 19:47Speaker 1: school movie, because I bet they all said he couldn't
- 19:51Speaker 1: do it, and he said watch this, And not only
- 19:53Speaker 1: did he do it, but he threw in a cartwheel.
- 19:55Speaker 1: He did it with style.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I like an orangutan with flayer, doesn't.
- 20:05Speaker 1: The Toronto Zoo says it has learned how one of
- 20:07Speaker 1: it's orangutans escaped from its enclosure last week. Kim Bali,
- 20:11Speaker 1: one of the zoo's seven Sumatran orangutans, escaped his outdoor
- 20:15Speaker 1: habitat on Thursday night and visited an area just outside
- 20:18Speaker 1: of it. He didn't run away, per se, He just
- 20:21Speaker 1: wanted to show everyone that he could do it. According
- 20:25Speaker 1: to the zoo, the mail orangutan was returned to his
- 20:28Speaker 1: enclosure without incident thanks to the quick response by staff.
- 20:31Speaker 1: They added that police were called as a precaution. Now,
- 20:35Speaker 1: thanks to video and photographs taken from that day, the
- 20:38Speaker 1: zoo said in an update on Saturday, it figured out
- 20:42Speaker 1: how kim Bally got out because, as we mentioned last week,
- 20:47Speaker 1: when Jabari the gorilla escaped his enclosure at the Dallas Zoo,
- 20:50Speaker 1: all the way back in I believe it was two
- 20:52Speaker 1: thousand and four, we didn't have, you know, smartphone and
- 20:56Speaker 1: video stuff attached to us the way we do these days,
- 21:00Speaker 1: So it was more of a mystery back then on
- 21:01Speaker 1: how Jabari got out. We all guessed that he just jumped,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and then the city of Dallas spent about six hundred
- 21:07Speaker 1: thousand dollars over three months, and they figured out that
- 21:10Speaker 1: he jumped, but we didn't have the video evidence to
- 21:12Speaker 1: support it at the time, so they had to spend
- 21:14Speaker 1: a bunch of money to find out. The Toronto Zoo
- 21:16Speaker 1: didn't have to worry about any of that because people
- 21:18Speaker 1: just pull out their phone and go, hey, watch what
- 21:20Speaker 1: this monkey's doing.
- 21:23Speaker 2: He climbed up and then climbed down.
- 21:29Speaker 1: The Toronto Zoo even said on Twitter, we want to
- 21:31Speaker 1: thank the many guests and members who send us video
- 21:34Speaker 1: and photographs from the Rankatan Habitat, as they've been instrumental
- 21:37Speaker 1: in helping us better understand how Kimbali was able to
- 21:40Speaker 1: climb down the tower and access the area just outside
- 21:43Speaker 1: the habitat. Uh and so I've got some of that
- 21:46Speaker 1: video to share with you today.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Oh good, Hey, it actually is impressive that if that
- 21:52Speaker 2: basically he cartwheeled around the hot wire.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a I'm not showing new video of
- 22:00Speaker 1: the copper thieves on power lines in Garland. No, this
- 22:03Speaker 1: is an orangutan escaping the zoo, but doing so on
- 22:07Speaker 1: power lines. See he's like he's gone across the power
- 22:11Speaker 1: lines and hit that little platform and then down the
- 22:14Speaker 1: tower he goes. But let's let the local News share
- 22:18Speaker 1: more with us here.
- 22:18Speaker 6: But Toronto who was investigating after one of its orangutans
- 22:22Speaker 6: got a free the Brief Taste of Freedom escaping from
- 22:25Speaker 6: a new outdoor enclosure last night. This is the video
- 22:29Speaker 6: showing Kimbali. He's sitting on a pole next to the
- 22:32Speaker 6: pedestrian walkway at the enclosure. He is not supposed to
- 22:36Speaker 6: be there, We're told that for a walk among the zoo.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Guess smiling.
- 22:41Speaker 6: Now take a look at this. Well, this is a
- 22:42Speaker 6: video from last month before the great escape. As you
- 22:45Speaker 6: can see, Kimbali was quite adept at doing a high
- 22:48Speaker 6: wire act.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So he's showing a video here and he just said it.
- 22:52Speaker 1: The anchor just said it. The video that he's showing
- 22:54Speaker 1: here is from a month ago of Kimbali, the orangutan,
- 22:59Speaker 1: going acrosst the power lines above the enclosure. Yeah, so
- 23:03Speaker 1: he's testing the plan. He's doing this like like it's
- 23:06Speaker 1: a heist. He's doing this like he's, you know, part
- 23:09Speaker 1: of Ocean's eleven, Like he's Ocean's twelve. Well, I guess
- 23:12Speaker 1: there's two more movies. This is the plot for Ocean's fourteen.
- 23:16Speaker 4: I think this is kind of the plot of shawshik.
- 23:20Speaker 4: He's the Andy d Frame of oringutans.
- 23:24Speaker 1: This is where we need our buddy, Aaron Aarmpor. He
- 23:26Speaker 1: does a killer or organ freeman to pop in and go.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Kimbale wasn't frowned. And that sounds like for Stump, that's
- 23:34Speaker 1: why I don't do that choice. We'll go back here
- 23:37Speaker 1: to the anchor.
- 23:38Speaker 6: He was returned to his habitat without incident. All right,
- 23:42Speaker 6: let's not bring it, okay.
- 23:44Speaker 1: So that's one of my favorite parts of this is
- 23:45Speaker 1: when the anchor says that the Kimbali was returned to
- 23:49Speaker 1: his enclosure without incident. And in my head it went
- 23:53Speaker 1: like this, his zoo friend person, his zoo caretaker approaches
- 24:00Speaker 1: him and just holds up the hand, and then the
- 24:03Speaker 1: orangutane just comes down and grabs his hand, and then
- 24:05Speaker 1: they just walk back through the front door together, hand
- 24:07Speaker 1: in hand.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a very Canadian, polite way of doing things.
- 24:10Speaker 2: It's Canada. So I'm sure the zoo keeper said I'm sorry,
- 24:13Speaker 2: first apologize and then.
- 24:18Speaker 1: And like in all relationships, that helped.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Yeah, did you know did you know that that Canada
- 24:25Speaker 2: had to pass a law that apologizing or saying I'm
- 24:28Speaker 2: sorry and an interrogation is not an admission of guilt
- 24:31Speaker 2: just because they apologize to him much.
- 24:35Speaker 1: They really are the people please her nation.
- 24:38Speaker 4: They are, and that's why I'm like, I like how
- 24:40Speaker 4: they thanked everybody for their videos, like, we know you
- 24:43Speaker 4: were probably a little terrified of a loose orangutane, but
- 24:47Speaker 4: thank you so kindly you sharing your videos of our ineptitude.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Well not only that, I think they also probably thought
- 24:56Speaker 1: about the best strategy to get Kimbali the orangutan back
- 25:02Speaker 1: into the enclosure, because I bet if they saw the
- 25:05Speaker 1: Clint Eastwood classic every which way but loose, and they
- 25:08Speaker 1: went up to this and orangutan and say, get your
- 25:10Speaker 1: ass back in that pin, you're gonna get punched.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 1: So they instead went with the Canadian strategy of oh,
- 25:17Speaker 1: I'm so sorry that we let you out. Would you
- 25:19Speaker 1: like to come back home and have a snack.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yeah. They're like, you know, what what can we do
- 25:24Speaker 4: to make your enclosure better for you?
- 25:28Speaker 1: What can we do to make it to where you
- 25:29Speaker 1: don't want to leave your enclosure in the future.
- 25:32Speaker 2: They probably just put a cutout of Ryan Reynolds in
- 25:34Speaker 2: there and he just walked back in.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I think it would work on me too.
- 25:43Speaker 4: I'll be hon.
- 25:45Speaker 1: You got to cut out of Ryan Reynolds up there
- 25:47Speaker 1: or Blake Livela. Yeah, we're all good. What's in there?
- 25:56Speaker 2: Is it?
- 25:56Speaker 6: Jin?
- 25:57Speaker 1: Is it a really good cell plan? Is it a movie?
- 25:59Speaker 2: What ever?
- 26:00Speaker 1: Is gonna make me happy?
- 26:01Speaker 4: He's gonna be monkey Pool. That's gonna be the next one.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Every which way but Deadpool. I love it. I love it.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I love it.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I love it. Oh, and not to be outdone, ooh boy,
- 26:20Speaker 1: this may be uh. I know it's only Monday, but
- 26:23Speaker 1: this may be an early favorite and headline of the week.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Inside the Treehouse, are you ready? M a Florida teacher
- 26:32Speaker 1: has been arrested and accused of using her legs to
- 26:35Speaker 1: put a three year old in a headlock during story time.
- 26:41Speaker 4: If her last name is Wow, We're gonna have a problem.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Thank you, Roch. This is a good time to plug
- 26:50Speaker 1: our Patreon channel. If you had listened to the Treehouse
- 26:54Speaker 1: Plus episode which preceded this one, you would have gotten
- 26:58Speaker 1: that excellent headbing in Joe. Go to patreon dot com
- 27:04Speaker 1: slash Treehouse on air right now, pause this episode and
- 27:07Speaker 1: go join that Now listen to that episode and then
- 27:10Speaker 1: come back into this Treehouse episode and hit play, and
- 27:14Speaker 1: everything will be brighter, everything will make way more sense,
- 27:19Speaker 1: and you'll even appreciate me using the word headbanging.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Why Florida, Why, what's going on?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Florida? Teacher has been arrested and accused of using her
- 27:32Speaker 1: legs to put a three year old in a headlock
- 27:33Speaker 1: during story time. So I decided to take it upon
- 27:36Speaker 1: myself do a little online research because I thought, I
- 27:39Speaker 1: don't think it's a headlock when you use your legs.
- 27:42Speaker 1: A headlock is using your hands and your arms, kind
- 27:45Speaker 1: of like Nolan Ryan did back in the day on
- 27:48Speaker 1: Robin Ventura. That's a headlock. Right, there's the real naked choke.
- 27:52Speaker 1: That's a variation of a headlock. But I believe the
- 27:56Speaker 1: exact term we're looking for here is this or to
- 28:00Speaker 1: teacher put a three year old in what's known as
- 28:02Speaker 1: head scissors, sometimes referred to as next scissors. This holds
- 28:07Speaker 1: he's a wrestler, approach a supine opponent and sit next
- 28:12Speaker 1: to them before turning onto their side towards the opponent
- 28:15Speaker 1: and wrapping their legs around either side of the opponent's head,
- 28:18Speaker 1: crossing the top leg after it has gone around the
- 28:21Speaker 1: opponent's chin.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I feel like that, could you know, change a few
- 28:26Speaker 2: words and that could have been a description for a
- 28:28Speaker 2: page in the Kama Sutra.
- 28:30Speaker 4: Yes, it is true. There's there's if you've ever seen it,
- 28:39Speaker 4: there's like there's multiple head, head, leg desert things that
- 28:46Speaker 4: happen in it.
- 28:47Speaker 1: All right, I'm gonna try to do this on the
- 28:48Speaker 1: fly tray. A Florida woman dressed as a teacher during
- 28:53Speaker 1: role play is being praised for putting her thirty year
- 28:59Speaker 1: old boy friend in a scissor luck during bedtime.
- 29:05Speaker 4: There you go, very nice, eh, not bad? Right?
- 29:09Speaker 1: Anyway, Let's get back to the teacher brutalizing a three
- 29:12Speaker 1: year old in Florida. According to the arrest affid David
- 29:17Speaker 1: vilma Otero fifty nine, it's facing child abuse charges after
- 29:21Speaker 1: a educator and after a parat educator in her classroom
- 29:25Speaker 1: witnessed the incident and submitted a Florida Department of Children
- 29:29Speaker 1: and Families report. The The witness told deputies she was
- 29:37Speaker 1: setting up an activity during the children's stories during the
- 29:40Speaker 1: children's story time when she started to hear screaming and
- 29:43Speaker 1: crying coming from the other side of the room. When
- 29:45Speaker 1: she turned around, she said she saw the teacher sitting
- 29:48Speaker 1: in a chair with the toddler between her legs. The
- 29:51Speaker 1: boy's face was turning red as he screamed and tried
- 29:54Speaker 1: to free himself from the legs scissor chokehold. The witness
- 29:59Speaker 1: even hip photos of the incident and sym them. Isn't
- 30:03Speaker 1: it amazing how she had time to grab the phone
- 30:05Speaker 1: and snap a few photos instead of immediately going to
- 30:08Speaker 1: help the suffocating child.
- 30:11Speaker 4: I mean, you got a post, you got a post.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Come on, what was she doing with her her arms,
- 30:17Speaker 2: you know, holding a bush light and a camel?
- 30:21Speaker 4: My guess is like in my head, I'm like, she's
- 30:23Speaker 4: still reading from the book.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Yeah, she's still reading Great Eggs and ham while turning
- 30:30Speaker 1: the child red.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Oh the places you will go.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I stepped on your punchline.
- 30:44Speaker 4: My bad, It's okay. I'm just in my head like
- 30:47Speaker 4: she's just continuing to read as this kid just slowly,
- 30:50Speaker 4: slowly goes out.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Meanwhile, all the other kids like, go to.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Sleep, well, go to sleep the normal way. She's like,
- 31:14Speaker 4: you just are gonna sleep one way or another.
- 31:17Speaker 1: That kid did was raised a tennis I was not tired, you.
- 31:23Speaker 7: Be you're listening to the treehouse visit us online that

- 33:07Speaker 1: this earlier when we were talking about the Dallas police
- 33:10Speaker 1: officer that was killed in the line of duty, Darren Burts.

- 34:01Speaker 1: that'll get deposited in the old fashioned way. Just mailed
- 34:04Speaker 1: that to us.
- 34:05Speaker 4: And I was gonna say before that as well, is
- 34:07Speaker 4: I think we all have it on our social media pages.
- 34:10Speaker 4: I think if you go to our facebooks, there is
- 34:13Speaker 4: the link in a post on our page for yeah
- 34:18Speaker 4: to donate, so please do.
- 34:20Speaker 1: All that, including everything else treehouse related, is on that
- 34:22Speaker 1: site as well Treehouse on air dot com. Now that
- 34:27Speaker 1: that is concluded the little bit of housekeeping, there's something
- 34:30Speaker 1: else that's been happening here that I need to update
- 34:34Speaker 1: you both on, and that is we didn't really cover
- 34:37Speaker 1: it last week because things were quiet. But the first
- 34:40Speaker 1: week that we were doing five days a week, we
- 34:44Speaker 1: were talking about how my wife thinks the place we're
- 34:49Speaker 1: staying in Seattle is haunted. I don't really think it is,
- 34:52Speaker 1: and if it is, it's not so bad. Trey, you
- 34:56Speaker 1: tend to agree with her. Raj, you definitely agree with her.
- 34:59Speaker 1: And nothing really happened last week that I noticed, or
- 35:03Speaker 1: at least that Tara told me, until this morning. This morning,
- 35:10Speaker 1: the smoke detector beated. Now the initial thinking was, are
- 35:15Speaker 1: you kidding me? Holiday weekend? The smoke detector is going
- 35:20Speaker 1: to go out? At least it was early in the morning,
- 35:22Speaker 1: at like around eight seven thirty eight o'clock, as opposed
- 35:26Speaker 1: to when it usually starts beeping, which is like two
- 35:29Speaker 1: am when you're in the middle of rim cycle. But
- 35:33Speaker 1: then it didn't beep again, So it was just a
- 35:35Speaker 1: single beep, right, and then I don't know, ten fifteen
- 35:40Speaker 1: minutes later, well passed when the next beat should have
- 35:43Speaker 1: happened if the battery was out or low. Was a
- 35:48Speaker 1: handful of successive beats like beep, beep, beep, but again
- 35:52Speaker 1: it sounded like the smoke detector. And then I haven't
- 35:54Speaker 1: heard it since. So now what I think is the
- 35:58Speaker 1: ghost was out of town week, it's back in town,
- 36:02Speaker 1: back in the house, and it's gone around testing the
- 36:04Speaker 1: smoke detectors.
- 36:05Speaker 4: Yes, that is it's not trying to communicate with you.
- 36:09Speaker 4: It's trying to make sure that you guys are safe
- 36:11Speaker 4: during the long weekend. Okay, you're very optimistic about what
- 36:16Speaker 4: your ghosts do.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Well, I'm sorry, until a knife starts floating from the
- 36:22Speaker 1: kitchen and chasing me around the house, I'm assuming it's
- 36:25Speaker 1: a nice ghost. If it's just pushing buttons and stuff,
- 36:27Speaker 1: it's fine.
- 36:30Speaker 4: I'm just saying if the knife starts floating, then it's
- 36:34Speaker 4: basically going. I tried to warn you with the TV
- 36:36Speaker 4: coming on, the doorbell rang, what ell, there's a banjo
- 36:42Speaker 4: that plays sometimes there's you know whatever. And then now
- 36:46Speaker 4: I gave you the consecutive beaps, and that could have
- 36:48Speaker 4: you done the Morris Code. Have you seen what it
- 36:50Speaker 4: could be spelling out for you? Because it's saying get out.
- 36:54Speaker 1: No, because it didn't even have enough letters. There weren't
- 36:57Speaker 1: enough beaps to coincide with the six letters of get out.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Okay, maybe it's a shorthand like out.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Go or get get. You're trying to tell me. A Seattle,
- 37:11Speaker 1: Washington based specter understands get.
- 37:14Speaker 4: It could be an old timey ghost from you know,
- 37:18Speaker 4: the settler days. Yeah, and you should. You should go
- 37:22Speaker 4: and see what the the beeps, what what does it
- 37:25Speaker 4: spell out? And if it spells out get, then you'll stay.
- 37:30Speaker 4: I know you you'll even if even if the ghost like
- 37:33Speaker 4: was literally behind you and was like, hey, I think
- 37:35Speaker 4: you guys need to leave, like.
- 37:38Speaker 1: He'd still that's still very polite. Zunding.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, then you'd be like, here's such a
- 37:42Speaker 4: nice ghost then and then uh and then death.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah, because this, you know, you could be really over
- 37:50Speaker 2: complicating it and it's just telling you I was being
- 37:53Speaker 2: nice the first time. This is your second morning. It's
- 37:56Speaker 2: the you know, fire alarm. Hence you know I'm going
- 37:59Speaker 2: to torch your ass if you don't leave.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Let's see. That's what that's that's what you need to
- 38:03Speaker 4: listen to. Is that man there?
- 38:06Speaker 1: That guy. I'm just waiting, like Roger, I'm just waiting
- 38:08Speaker 1: for your fingers. Obviously we can see each other. I'm
- 38:10Speaker 1: just waiting for your finger to go through the camera
- 38:13Speaker 1: and into Trey's head all a dead pull three.
- 38:18Speaker 4: Yes, you listen to that. The ghost is the ghost
- 38:21Speaker 4: is trying. Uh, you're just the You're just the people
- 38:24Speaker 4: in the house are like, he's so nice, and he's like,
- 38:26Speaker 4: I'm not trying to be at a holes. I'm not
- 38:28Speaker 4: trying to be.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Like I'm like the character that gets parodied in all
- 38:34Speaker 1: the scary movie movies. It's like I'm the one that
- 38:36Speaker 1: says I'll be right back, or I'm the one that
- 38:38Speaker 1: said there's nothing to worry about, or you're you're the
- 38:41Speaker 1: white guy. Yeah, I was gonna.
- 38:43Speaker 4: I didn't want to say it.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Thanks, Ray, I'll spell you.
- 38:51Speaker 4: No, you're you're the white couple that moves into the
- 38:55Speaker 4: house that's trying to tell you to get out, and
- 38:58Speaker 4: you just keep finding nice things about It's like it's
- 39:00Speaker 4: the weather's great, get out. Did you hear that? It
- 39:04Speaker 4: sounded polite.
- 39:05Speaker 1: It sounds so nice. No, I hate, I'd hate to
- 39:08Speaker 1: give a less than five star review for this place
- 39:11Speaker 1: on Airbnb because someone whispered get out. Meanwhile, you're right,
- 39:14Speaker 1: because if this is a movie centered around a black family,
- 39:17Speaker 1: like if this was a scary movie on B e T,
- 39:19Speaker 1: it wouldn't be a movie. It'd be it'd be called
- 39:21Speaker 1: B E T Shorts.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it would it would be. It would be one scene,
- 39:25Speaker 4: the TV would come on and we would leave like that,
- 39:29Speaker 4: Like there would only be like this was how it
- 39:31Speaker 4: would go down. The TV would come on. I'm like,
- 39:33Speaker 4: did you turn the TV on? No? Did you turn
- 39:35Speaker 4: the TV on? No? I guess we got to leave
- 39:37Speaker 4: this place. Should we pack? No? Would you just go?
- 39:45Speaker 2: They're they're like, oh, that nice guy. He's telling us
- 39:47Speaker 2: to get out and get some exercise.
- 39:52Speaker 1: You have a point. Maybe he can see my Apple
- 39:54Speaker 1: watch and has noticed that I have not closed my
- 39:57Speaker 1: my ring for the day.
- 39:59Speaker 4: He's like, I keep showing him his own breath, like
- 40:04Speaker 4: I'm making it this cold. He can see his own breath.
- 40:07Speaker 1: That's just the ghost telling me that it's chili and
- 40:09Speaker 1: I should put on a jacket.
- 40:12Speaker 4: Or is your ghost white too.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Probably it's Seattle, and I think also the ghost is
- 40:23Speaker 1: I also think the ghost is wanting me to get
- 40:25Speaker 1: outside to get some exercise, because it keeps opening the
- 40:28Speaker 1: blinds and showing me what a pretty day it is outside.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Yeah. See, it's trying to tell you where you need
- 40:33Speaker 4: to be going. Pack your stuff and go to that place.
- 40:37Speaker 1: There may be something to all this, though, because I
- 40:39Speaker 1: have noticed myself going outside more so, I guess I'm
- 40:43Speaker 1: taking the ghost advice. And I don't know if it's
- 40:46Speaker 1: just because I've been in Seattle too long or because
- 40:49Speaker 1: it's the ghost whispering things while I sleep. But I'm
- 40:52Speaker 1: really starting to like the looks of super rus.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Oh no, you have a lesbian ghost.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Look the cross track is a very practical vehicle in
- 41:04Speaker 1: a mountainous region.
- 41:07Speaker 4: You have two lesbian ghosts.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Guess it's a crowded house.

- 42:35Speaker 1: the Treehouse, and that is something no one asked for
- 42:42Speaker 1: and something I share as hell don't want. There is
- 42:46Speaker 1: a growing list of luxury brands hoping to use real
- 42:50Speaker 1: estate to turn their cultural cachet into cold hard cash.
- 42:55Speaker 1: That's according to Business Insider. One example of this is
- 42:58Speaker 1: the Italian autumn Pajani Hope. I'm saying that right, which
- 43:03Speaker 1: produces cars with multi million dollar price tags, recently unveiled
- 43:07Speaker 1: plans for Pajani Residences. A Janni recently unveiled God damn it,
- 43:14Speaker 1: The Janni recently unveiled plans for Pajani Residences, a seventy
- 43:20Speaker 1: a seventy unit condo development in Miami's North Bay Village.
- 43:25Speaker 1: These condos, similar to their cars, will sell at around
- 43:29Speaker 1: the three million dollar range, and they're not alone in this.
- 43:34Speaker 1: According to Business Insider, the Janni is the latest high
- 43:38Speaker 1: end car brand to lend its name to a shiny
- 43:40Speaker 1: condo project along the Miami coast, joining the likes of Mercedes, Benz, Porsche, Aston, Martin,
- 43:47Speaker 1: and Bentley. And they're not alone on the on this venture.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Non auto brands are doing this as well. They're getting
- 43:57Speaker 1: into the condominium market, and some of those brands include
- 44:01Speaker 1: the Italian eatery Carbone, the fashion icon, Dulce and Cabana,
- 44:08Speaker 1: as well as L magazine. While other cities are seeing
- 44:14Speaker 1: these types of developments, Miami seems to be a hotspot
- 44:16Speaker 1: for this trend, of course, where no one will even
- 44:19Speaker 1: build a luxury building in the city without a name
- 44:22Speaker 1: brand attached to it. The traditional residential model of just
- 44:26Speaker 1: building a really nice building is not enough anymore. It
- 44:30Speaker 1: now has to have a brand. It has to conjure
- 44:32Speaker 1: up the idea of what the lifestyle can be.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Yeah, love it, you love it. I love it.
- 44:43Speaker 1: You want to live in lofts by Louis Vatan.
- 44:46Speaker 4: Yeah, or Dulce and Cabana. Oh, that's gonna be great.
- 44:48Speaker 4: I mean just imagine the workmanship, like you know. But
- 44:52Speaker 4: there's also the other side. There's also the mesquite side
- 44:54Speaker 4: of me. I'm like, ah, is there one by Funians?
- 44:56Speaker 4: Like I would? I would? I would? I would check
- 44:58Speaker 4: that one out too, Like where do you live in
- 45:01Speaker 4: the Dorito's Building? Yeah? Yeah, Oh it could be like
- 45:04Speaker 4: a cool.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Ranch all there you go. That'd be a good subdivision.
- 45:09Speaker 1: That is pretty good. Yeah, because because you could have
- 45:12Speaker 1: lofts by Louis Vaton, Gucci garages. Yeah, Raj, you mentioned
- 45:17Speaker 1: Dulce and Gabana, so they could do they could play
- 45:19Speaker 1: on the double theme. They could do Dulce and Gabana
- 45:22Speaker 1: duplexes would be really popular, really popular in East Dallas
- 45:25Speaker 1: because those are popular there.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm I'm on board with this. Mercedes Benz apartments.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Quick question, did did anybody have douche developments on their
- 45:40Speaker 1: twenty twenty four Bingo cards or is that just me?
- 45:47Speaker 1: We like we know, we know development and subdivision areas
- 45:51Speaker 1: better than I think almost any area of the country.
- 45:54Speaker 1: In North Texas, our suburbs are crazy. Everything is its
- 45:58Speaker 1: master planned community and all these.
- 46:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you can finally have a Cavender's boot city,
- 46:06Speaker 4: like you could finally have like it's its own city.
- 46:11Speaker 4: But just oh it would be so, it would be
- 46:14Speaker 4: so good and tacky.
- 46:15Speaker 1: I don't think we need brands infiltrating every aspect of
- 46:18Speaker 1: our life, including where we live. Trey, what are you
- 46:21Speaker 1: working on over there? You look busy?
- 46:23Speaker 2: My application to Trojan Town.
- 46:33Speaker 4: The price is drop, but never pull out.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I will. I will leave you to it. Good sir,
- 46:46Speaker 1: I take it all back. I think there's some serious
- 46:48Speaker 1: opportunity here. Thank you for hanging out with us inside
- 46:58Speaker 1: the Treehouse today. Hope you made your labor day just
- 47:00Speaker 1: a little bit better. You sorted again to check out
- 47:02Speaker 1: all things Treehouse at Treehouse on air dot com. Oh man,
- 47:12Speaker 1: trudging down, I'll see you tomorrow.
