- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome to the Almost Famous Podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 3: We are here for something we've been waiting on for
- 0:10Speaker 3: four years.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Four years to do this.
- 0:12Speaker 3: At this moment that's actually very accurate. Is actually we've
- 0:15Speaker 3: been waiting four years for this moment. We're very excited
- 0:18Speaker 3: for this moment, and we hope you are too. But
- 0:21Speaker 3: we want to hear your thoughts and opinion, so please,
- 0:24Speaker 3: you know, comment on our social media, let us know,
- 0:28Speaker 3: email us, let us know what you're thinking of The
- 0:30Speaker 3: Golden Bachelor. We're here today to break down episode one
- 0:32Speaker 3: of The Golden Bachelor with our Golden Bachelor, Gary Ashley.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Take it away.
- 0:39Speaker 4: I feel like you should take it away because this
- 0:41Speaker 4: is the show that you've been waiting for and wanting
- 0:43Speaker 4: to host and all that.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Okay, I think you should, Well, then I will. Here's
- 0:48Speaker 3: the deal, Okay, Well, we look forward to going into
- 0:52Speaker 3: this show. Where we have been talking about for months
- 0:55Speaker 3: now is the idea that this show could transcend the
- 0:58Speaker 3: other shows because of storytelling piece. Now Night one, just
- 1:02Speaker 3: like every other Night one on any other show that
- 1:06Speaker 3: The Bachelor has done, is probably going to be the
- 1:09Speaker 3: weakest storytelling that we get. In fact, I think I
- 1:12Speaker 3: think any emotion that you felt watching episode one, and
- 1:16Speaker 3: my wife, you know, definitely felt the emotion. I felt
- 1:19Speaker 3: the emotion at times. I think, week after week, it's
- 1:23Speaker 3: just going to increase, all right, would hope it would.
- 1:26Speaker 2: And this starts out.
- 1:27Speaker 3: And the reason I say this at the beginning is
- 1:29Speaker 3: because we get an in depth look right off the
- 1:34Speaker 3: bat of our golden bachelor Gary. We hear his story.
- 1:39Speaker 3: He's married forty three years to his high school sweetheart.
- 1:42Speaker 3: They have some beautiful kids, they have grandkids, and then
- 1:49Speaker 3: he retires and they build their dream home, and then
- 1:54Speaker 3: all of a sudden, she becomes very sick, and a
- 1:56Speaker 3: week later she passes, and.
- 1:58Speaker 2: He's now left alone.
- 2:01Speaker 3: You know, he has his family, he has his grandkids,
- 2:04Speaker 3: but he's left alone. And I would imagine Ashley at
- 2:09Speaker 3: seventy now years old. I think he's seventy one to
- 2:12Speaker 3: be exact, but you know, she passed away in his sixties.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I would imagine that only is a feeling of deep,
- 2:20Speaker 3: deep grief and sadness and confusion, especially as you're into
- 2:25Speaker 3: a monumental season of life with somebody. But it's also
- 2:30Speaker 3: at some point when that grief and the sadness you know,
- 2:34Speaker 3: goes away and you become still sad and you're still
- 2:37Speaker 3: mourning the death of your loved one, but you're you're
- 2:40Speaker 3: moving on with life. I'm assuming it starts to get
- 2:42Speaker 3: very lonely because you a lot of the people I
- 2:45Speaker 3: know in their seventies and eighties, they just miss that partner.
- 2:50Speaker 3: And as Gary said it, like he just misses that
- 2:53Speaker 3: person to lay beside at night and maybe not say
- 2:56Speaker 3: a word, but that somebody else is there.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Yeah, let me tell you that it was because of
- 3:05Speaker 4: Gary's story in the beginning and how absolutely emotional it
- 3:09Speaker 4: was that I actually I felt like almost too protective
- 3:20Speaker 4: of him, almost like nobody I didn't.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Like.
- 3:23Speaker 4: I was like, okay, I've never even though we've watched
- 3:27Speaker 4: like you know, former leads get broken up with the
- 3:29Speaker 4: season previous, I've never felt so protective over someone and
- 3:35Speaker 4: like feeling like no one like can compete, and like
- 3:39Speaker 4: he said, like he doesn't want whoever he finds to
- 3:41Speaker 4: compete with his wife. He wants to like find like
- 3:45Speaker 4: a new and different type of love. But I almost
- 3:49Speaker 4: I just found myself being like not worthy, not worthy?
- 3:52Speaker 6: Are you like, do you think I'm cold hearted.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I don't think you're cold hearted at all.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think you're pointing at any of
- 3:57Speaker 3: these women being like you're not worthy of him, You're
- 3:59Speaker 3: not worthy of And I think it in general, you
- 4:02Speaker 3: had a very similar feeling that Jessica had from the
- 4:04Speaker 3: very beginning, which her very first tears at Rashid, she goes,
- 4:08Speaker 3: who's taking care of him? Like like, I think it's
- 4:11Speaker 3: a similar feeling of like, this is a sweet man,
- 4:15Speaker 3: and he is obviously not looking for fame, He's not
- 4:20Speaker 3: desiring fortune. All these things that I think the Bachelor
- 4:24Speaker 3: started to get criticized for as of recent are out
- 4:27Speaker 3: of the question for him.
- 4:29Speaker 2: You know, fame might.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Feel good for a bit, this attention might feel fun
- 4:32Speaker 3: and fascinating, but he's not looking for the fortunes. He's
- 4:35Speaker 3: not looking for the Instagram deals. He's in this for
- 4:39Speaker 3: this deep desire that maybe I could try something different
- 4:41Speaker 3: to spark something up in my life at this age
- 4:45Speaker 3: when excitement. You know, you don't get a lot anew
- 4:50Speaker 3: in your seventies. They're not a lot of things that
- 4:52Speaker 3: happened to you in your seventies that are new to you.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Maybe a grandchild right, You've never experienced being a grandfather,
- 4:58Speaker 3: you know, grandparent before, but this is new for all
- 5:01Speaker 3: of these people, especially for him, who is leading this
- 5:04Speaker 3: franchise and leading this new show and getting the interviews
- 5:08Speaker 3: now on television and having to respond to questions and
- 5:13Speaker 3: figure out some like sneaky ways to answer them. And
- 5:17Speaker 3: Jessica just starts crysch, Who's taking care of this man? Like,
- 5:20Speaker 3: because Ben, I know how they took care of the Siffer.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I like a fault, a default to thinking that the
- 5:26Speaker 3: daughters are I'm guessing they're not around for all of this.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I mean, Ashley, you know you've been around.
- 5:32Speaker 6: It, I mean throughout the actual process.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Yeah, they they're not around for that. So they're not
- 5:35Speaker 3: traveling with him on a plane these interviews. I mean,
- 5:37Speaker 3: let's compare it for a second, okay, because I think
- 5:39Speaker 3: this is this is an interesting conversation to compare. I
- 5:42Speaker 3: think will have to through this whole season, at least
- 5:44Speaker 3: for season one, compare and contrast to my experience because
- 5:49Speaker 3: I think, you know, as the Bachelor, it might be
- 5:51Speaker 3: the closest thing that we know today to what he's
- 5:54Speaker 3: feeling now. Yeah, And I think that is something that
- 5:58Speaker 3: I've had, I've you know, this is the first time
- 6:00Speaker 3: my wife and I've watched a Bachelor related show together
- 6:03Speaker 3: in our relationship, So that's a big deal to me.
- 6:05Speaker 3: And I had a really good time talking to Jessica
- 6:08Speaker 3: last night about my experience compared to what he's feeling,
- 6:11Speaker 3: or what it's like to walk into the mansion for
- 6:12Speaker 3: the first time, or what it's like to pull up
- 6:14Speaker 3: in the limo as the bachelor and to get out
- 6:16Speaker 3: and stand there as these women greet you and you're like,
- 6:19Speaker 3: I don't I don't deserve this, or this is weird
- 6:21Speaker 3: for me. And so I'm sitting there last night and
- 6:25Speaker 3: I'm watching this, and I know how hard it was
- 6:29Speaker 3: for me. Yes, I'm never the one to say the
- 6:32Speaker 3: producers don't care. I've never said that, I never will.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I think they do. I think they do it in
- 6:37Speaker 2: the best.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Way they know how, and I don't know if it's
- 6:40Speaker 3: a good way, but it's the best way they know how.
- 6:42Speaker 3: It's not criticizing them, but for me it was. It
- 6:47Speaker 3: still to this day has some like effect on me personally.
- 6:51Speaker 3: It's exhausting. You're breaking people's hearts, You're getting things said
- 6:55Speaker 3: about you that are very negative at time and can
- 6:58Speaker 3: really strike a chord with you. You're also getting things
- 7:01Speaker 3: very positive, like you're getting things said about you that
- 7:03Speaker 3: are very positive, and you don't know how to handle that.
- 7:05Speaker 3: You don't know like what to believe and what not
- 7:07Speaker 3: to believe. And at the end of the day, no
- 7:11Speaker 3: human being has training on how to be almost famous,
- 7:16Speaker 3: and this poor man at seventy years old is experience
- 7:19Speaker 3: in it for the first time. Now, yes, he has
- 7:21Speaker 3: some wisdom that I didn't have. He probably has some
- 7:23Speaker 3: you know, some ways in now getting life that he's
- 7:26Speaker 3: learned along the way that I don't know yet. But
- 7:29Speaker 3: he's also seventy years old and he's gone through heartbreak
- 7:33Speaker 3: and he doesn't know what he's getting himself into who's
- 7:36Speaker 3: taking care of him?
- 7:39Speaker 4: So are you sad and scared that he's not being
- 7:41Speaker 4: taken care of?
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think he is. I think the show is going
- 7:43Speaker 2: to learn. I think it's gonna be good for the show.
- 7:45Speaker 3: My response to this, and my response to Jessica was
- 7:47Speaker 3: I think I know and you know these people well
- 7:50Speaker 3: enough to know that they're not going to let a
- 7:51Speaker 3: seventy year old man and a bunch of sixty plus
- 7:53Speaker 3: year old women go through this in the same way
- 7:56Speaker 3: they allow twenty year olds to go through this. They're
- 7:58Speaker 3: just not Yeah, they're not. They're gonna have to step
- 8:02Speaker 3: up the game and care and in like emotional like
- 8:05Speaker 3: rehabilitation and allowing them to talk about their feelings and
- 8:09Speaker 3: their thoughts and about their disappointment. And it might just
- 8:12Speaker 3: be me, Ashley, it might just be me, but I did.
- 8:16Speaker 3: I got very emotional last night as I thought about
- 8:19Speaker 3: the times in my life that my parents have been
- 8:22Speaker 3: really excited for something, Like I know, you know, my
- 8:24Speaker 3: mom puts on the dress and she puts on the makeup.
- 8:26Speaker 3: My wedding is a good example, and my dad puts
- 8:29Speaker 3: on a suit and he combs his hair, and I know,
- 8:31Speaker 3: and I know for me, when I feel really excited
- 8:34Speaker 3: for something, right, like maybe the Bachelor's a good example
- 8:37Speaker 3: of that, or my wedding day is a great example
- 8:39Speaker 3: of that. Still, and you get really pumped for something
- 8:42Speaker 3: and there's a lot of expectation and there's a lot
- 8:44Speaker 3: of nerves, And I wonder what it'd feel like if
- 8:49Speaker 3: I was in my sixties or seventies and I haven't
- 8:51Speaker 3: felt those that excitement a long time, Like if I've
- 8:53Speaker 3: been desiring it and craving it and praying for it,
- 8:55Speaker 3: and I just haven't felt it. I've been saying, like,
- 8:57Speaker 3: I want something to happen in my life that allows
- 9:00Speaker 3: me to feel alive again. And then these women get
- 9:02Speaker 3: asked to be on the show, and they go to
- 9:04Speaker 3: their hotel rooms and they put on their dresses and
- 9:06Speaker 3: they put on their makeup and they feel alive again.
- 9:10Speaker 3: But then, just like every season and we expect it,
- 9:12Speaker 3: there's a new depth now to letting these women go
- 9:15Speaker 3: to me. And there's probably a heaviness to Gary because
- 9:18Speaker 3: I think he probably feels that heaviness knowing that these
- 9:22Speaker 3: women gave up a lot, they took a lot of risk,
- 9:24Speaker 3: not only a their kids watching this, but then their
- 9:26Speaker 3: grandkids are watching this, and now I'm gonna have to
- 9:30Speaker 3: send you home. Like for me, I knew these girls
- 9:32Speaker 3: would be all right. Like they're twenty years old, they're beautiful,
- 9:35Speaker 3: they'll be fine, They'll find somebody.
- 9:37Speaker 2: There's not for me. But this is a very different.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Situation, and I think it brings a weight to this
- 9:45Speaker 3: show that I hope the show can bring out. I
- 9:48Speaker 3: hope every week I feel that emotion watching this, because
- 9:52Speaker 3: it makes it a beautiful hour of my life when
- 9:57Speaker 3: I can feel that with him again.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Ben, this is like one of those scenarios where I'm
- 10:02Speaker 4: just like not even really going to respond to because
- 10:05Speaker 4: I think what you said was just great and you
- 10:06Speaker 4: really kind of opened my eyes to reading the show
- 10:12Speaker 4: in a way that I don't think that I I
- 10:15Speaker 4: did not I did. I didn't think about how it
- 10:19Speaker 4: just like the I didn't think about the way.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I mean, but you know how it is. I mean
- 10:23Speaker 2: I think to yeah, because like I.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Don't know, because I was always just I was like
- 10:27Speaker 4: directly comparing to my experience and being like, oh, okay,
- 10:30Speaker 4: this is this is so crazy.
- 10:32Speaker 6: This is just my point.
- 10:33Speaker 4: This is how I watched it, my point of view,
- 10:35Speaker 4: which is wrong now and I can like realize.
- 10:37Speaker 6: After you just said it's like totally wrong. I've just no,
- 10:39Speaker 6: I think it's right. I think I actually think it's wrong.
- 10:43Speaker 4: When you when I am like young, you know, I'm
- 10:47Speaker 4: in my twenties, like I think, like, oh, I get
- 10:48Speaker 4: a limited from the Bachelor, Like oh my god, my
- 10:52Speaker 4: dreams have been crushed, like total dreams crushed, Like I'm
- 10:57Speaker 4: gonna die alone. Nothing's going to compare this experience, like
- 11:02Speaker 4: I did it, and like, you know, I'm talking about
- 11:04Speaker 4: like the girls who like really nothing came much of
- 11:06Speaker 4: it first night or second nighters.
- 11:09Speaker 6: I mean, like I haven't.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Then I'm embarrassed. But then I'm thinking about these people
- 11:14Speaker 4: as if they're more mature than to feel those emotions.
- 11:17Speaker 4: And they're like, ah, you know what, cool experience didn't
- 11:20Speaker 4: work out for me.
- 11:20Speaker 6: He wasn't my guy.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Because I think from there, yeah, just after like all
- 11:24Speaker 4: that life, you're like, oh, now that was just glad
- 11:27Speaker 4: to have experienced it. You know that they say, don't
- 11:30Speaker 4: cry because it's over, but like, smile because it happened.
- 11:32Speaker 4: I feel like they're like truly just smiling because it happened.
- 11:35Speaker 4: And then I'm also thinking like if I'm at that
- 11:38Speaker 4: age and like I have well, I'm particularly thinking of
- 11:43Speaker 4: the loss of a spouse and like say I'm one
- 11:45Speaker 4: of the widows, I'm going to be like, oh it
- 11:48Speaker 4: wasn't him, Well that's too bad. Again, great experience, like
- 11:52Speaker 4: I had the love of my life, Like oh I don't.
- 11:56Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 11:59Speaker 4: That's just how I would think of That's how I
- 12:02Speaker 4: think of it from being a thirty five year old
- 12:04Speaker 4: watching it. But you can also spend it and think
- 12:06Speaker 4: about how you've thought of it, because I think that
- 12:11Speaker 4: when you're younger and you're like so striving to have
- 12:15Speaker 4: the love of your life, that in these people women's cases,
- 12:20Speaker 4: they may not be looking for like that great love
- 12:22Speaker 4: and more just like for companionship and fun and like
- 12:26Speaker 4: you're not do it. You're not like there to find
- 12:28Speaker 4: the person that you're gonna have and raise a family with,
- 12:33Speaker 4: but like more like have your quote twilight years with
- 12:36Speaker 4: and you're like, oh, maybe I can do that with
- 12:38Speaker 4: the family that I created with another person, and like
- 12:40Speaker 4: I won't need like the actual spouse.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Well, think about this.
- 12:45Speaker 6: Because there's two different ways to look of it.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I got to make this like terribly heavy, and we're
- 12:50Speaker 3: gonna get into breaking down the show in just a second.
- 12:52Speaker 6: This is the person you're gonna die with. That's that
- 12:54Speaker 6: what you're gonna say.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Oh god, yeah, I mean there's a there is a illness.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Is to show that I think I personally and not
- 13:03Speaker 3: maybe And I think there are probably women that did
- 13:04Speaker 3: this show that probably responded the same way you did.
- 13:06Speaker 3: That was cool, that was fun. I'm glad I did it.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I'm going home. And this was a late night and
- 13:10Speaker 3: I'm tired and I'm going to take a break.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I'm sure that.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I'm sure that's the case for some, but for others.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I do think there's a lot going into this, and
- 13:18Speaker 3: it's just something about It's it's just a something about
- 13:23Speaker 3: last night hit me where I'm thinking about these women
- 13:27Speaker 3: and preparing with their daughters on how to flirt with
- 13:30Speaker 3: a man again, Like how yeah.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I was like, oh gosh, that's the most stressful thing
- 13:36Speaker 4: I've can ever imagine.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Like these women crushed it last night out of the lemos.
- 13:40Speaker 3: They crushed it in the conversations. They were not only
- 13:43Speaker 3: beautiful and fantastic, but they were a funny and they
- 13:47Speaker 3: tried new things getting out of the limos, and they
- 13:49Speaker 3: were flirty and and I'm like, now you know again,
- 13:55Speaker 3: will you? And I might have experience when we started
- 13:58Speaker 3: this show in doing that and dating and larning and
- 14:01Speaker 3: all those things, right, we were kind of skilled. We
- 14:03Speaker 3: had the practice at the time we were in the
- 14:05Speaker 3: dating pool base we did.
- 14:07Speaker 4: But did we have the inherent confidence that it takes
- 14:10Speaker 4: because like you know, how they all you see those memes,
- 14:12Speaker 4: it's like twenties, like just crippling with anxiety thirties, don't
- 14:16Speaker 4: really care what Like I'm fully embracing myself forties is
- 14:20Speaker 4: like I don't care what anybody else thinks.
- 14:22Speaker 6: So also like maybe I don't know.
- 14:25Speaker 4: I'd love to see myself at sixty five, just in compare,
- 14:29Speaker 4: I don't want a date at sixty five, but I
- 14:31Speaker 4: would be interested to know whether I find it more
- 14:34Speaker 4: comfortable at that age versus at twenty five.
- 14:38Speaker 3: And I think that's going to be the best question
- 14:39Speaker 3: of the show for me, because I don't know how
- 14:40Speaker 3: to answer that. I don't have parents who aren't together.
- 14:44Speaker 3: I haven't seen a lot of sixties. I mean, last
- 14:46Speaker 3: night was probably the first time in my life I
- 14:48Speaker 3: saw two seventy year old's makeout. That's probably the first
- 14:51Speaker 3: time I've ever seen I can't remember the last time.
- 14:53Speaker 3: And so I think one of the questions for me
- 14:56Speaker 3: through this show will be what does it look like
- 14:58Speaker 3: to be in your sixties and seventies and dating?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Is there a confidence?
- 15:02Speaker 3: Maybe there's an insecurity still, maybe there's like so much
- 15:06Speaker 3: of a desire that like it comes off as insecure.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I think this will, you know, just like The Bachelor
- 15:12Speaker 3: and The Bachelorette in its heyday was kind of this
- 15:14Speaker 3: like really cool social experiment where you get to see
- 15:17Speaker 3: how people reacted with each other in different situations, and
- 15:19Speaker 3: you got to learn kind of about human behavior, and
- 15:22Speaker 3: we kind of saw it all by now, right, we've
- 15:24Speaker 3: seen how twenty year olds react to each other. That's
- 15:26Speaker 3: why everybody's wanting, you know, people in their thirties, people
- 15:29Speaker 3: a little more mature, to go on the show so
- 15:30Speaker 3: they could see how thirty year olds react in dating situations.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Now we get to do the same thing, but with
- 15:36Speaker 3: people in their sixties and seventies, we get to see
- 15:38Speaker 3: maybe they are more confident, maybe they do let their
- 15:40Speaker 3: hair down a little bit. You know, last night, I
- 15:42Speaker 3: would say it was probably pointing to Yes, confidence is
- 15:45Speaker 3: definitely a consistent theme throughout all of these women's lives.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I can't say that yet about our Golden Bachelor. I
- 15:50Speaker 3: think he still has some insecurity, which makes sense because well,
- 15:53Speaker 3: I think he just feels overwhelmed by the fact that
- 15:55Speaker 3: he has twenty women coming to date him, and so
- 16:00Speaker 3: he's probably just overwhelmed more than anything. But we're gonna
- 16:02Speaker 3: see if what you think is true. If yes, people
- 16:06Speaker 3: in their sixties and seventies do get more confident as
- 16:09Speaker 3: they get older when it comes to dating.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Alrighty, well, the first woman out of the limo. My goodness,
- 16:25Speaker 4: she's Edith and she's so pretty. She doesn't really make
- 16:28Speaker 4: a splash night one. She wore that golden dress, which
- 16:32Speaker 4: was great move by well her fashion senses, but also
- 16:37Speaker 4: for the producers to be like, yes, that dress, go
- 16:40Speaker 4: with that dress, because this is the Golden Bachelor moment
- 16:43Speaker 4: where he goes, we're making history. You are the first
- 16:47Speaker 4: woman out of the limo for the Golden Bachelor.
- 16:50Speaker 6: Who I am?
- 16:52Speaker 4: And yeah, she's just beautiful, makes a nice, classy first impression,
- 16:56Speaker 4: and so does Ellen. Like Ellen, I think she might
- 17:00Speaker 4: be my I think she might be my choice for
- 17:03Speaker 4: him if I had to choose right now, which is
- 17:05Speaker 4: obviously very early on. She had a beautiful turquoise like
- 17:08Speaker 4: big flower.
- 17:09Speaker 6: One sided dress.
- 17:12Speaker 4: And she's the one who yelled her best friend's name
- 17:15Speaker 4: out because her best friend, who she's been friends with
- 17:18Speaker 4: for sixty years, is going through cancer and this is
- 17:20Speaker 4: like an adventure that they kind of took on together
- 17:23Speaker 4: to get her on the show.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Now, we did see really like Ellen, We did see
- 17:27Speaker 3: at the end of the episode that her friend did
- 17:29Speaker 3: pass away. This episode was dedicated to her friends, So
- 17:33Speaker 3: I didn't see that.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I do want to highlight that, you know.
- 17:36Speaker 3: No, that's a new element of the show, right, and
- 17:40Speaker 3: it's you know, death doesn't escape any of us.
- 17:43Speaker 2: And I think.
- 17:45Speaker 3: It's a new element of the show again where to
- 17:50Speaker 3: see her?
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I didn't see this because I was watching
- 17:55Speaker 4: on TVR No No.
- 17:57Speaker 3: So you know, there's there's gonna be these storylines. There's
- 18:00Speaker 3: gonna be storylines that make us like it does it
- 18:03Speaker 3: makes us stop for a second.
- 18:06Speaker 7: You know.
- 18:06Speaker 3: There's a news article today And I'll pause here and
- 18:09Speaker 3: I'll just interrupt and say, there's a news article today
- 18:12Speaker 3: that was kind of like hating on this Golden Bachelor's show.
- 18:16Speaker 3: It came from a big outlet. I won't name out
- 18:17Speaker 3: the outlet because that's just not fair. I guess it
- 18:19Speaker 3: would be fair. It's public and journalism. But there was
- 18:25Speaker 3: and it said that the Golden Bachelor pretty much missed
- 18:28Speaker 3: on a golden opportunity to do something different. And I
- 18:31Speaker 3: just feel like that is very premature, Like you can't
- 18:34Speaker 3: say that after night one.
- 18:35Speaker 6: It's premature.
- 18:36Speaker 3: You cannot say that after night one. We don't know,
- 18:38Speaker 3: and last night and yes, I had a lot of anticipation.
- 18:41Speaker 3: I had a lot of excitement. Nobody that listens to
- 18:43Speaker 3: our show did not know that. I really want to
- 18:44Speaker 3: be involved in this show because I do think it's
- 18:47Speaker 3: beautiful in so many ways, and it can probably be
- 18:49Speaker 3: really beautiful, and I hope the show did a good
- 18:52Speaker 3: job at making it beautiful because I have no idea
- 18:54Speaker 3: at this point. But I think if you look at
- 18:58Speaker 3: Twitter and you look at in and you read the
- 19:01Speaker 3: articles from like critics, I think people had a general
- 19:05Speaker 3: consensus where they felt something more watching this show than
- 19:10Speaker 3: they have in years watching Rally television, and so I
- 19:15Speaker 3: don't think they've missed the mark yet. I can't be
- 19:18Speaker 3: a critic that says that because it's one premature. In
- 19:20Speaker 3: two as you're mentioning, as you run through the women
- 19:23Speaker 3: that stepped out of Limo, there was a depth that
- 19:28Speaker 3: we don't get to see every season.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I totally agree with you. Yeah, they haven't
- 19:34Speaker 4: missed it yet. It was good, emotional first episode. I
- 19:37Speaker 4: can't imagine where they would have would have done differently
- 19:41Speaker 4: this first episode. It's all about going to be about
- 19:44Speaker 4: these one on ones to me, so what they're going
- 19:46Speaker 4: to talk about in the one on ones and how
- 19:47Speaker 4: the one ones are going to make us feel so
- 19:48Speaker 4: much different because you're.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Like, oh, this was this is heavy.
- 19:52Speaker 4: I mean, we see a lot of heavy life stuff
- 19:54Speaker 4: on one on ones in the younger version, but they're
- 19:57Speaker 4: just going to have a lot more to recap about life.
- 20:01Speaker 3: There's gonna be like, in these conversations, tell me your
- 20:03Speaker 3: life story.
- 20:03Speaker 2: It's like how much time you got?
- 20:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well I was born here. No, Like, it's
- 20:10Speaker 3: gonna be different. And I think two, you and I
- 20:14Speaker 3: have desired.
- 20:15Speaker 2: This for years.
- 20:15Speaker 3: You've been a fan of this show for longer than
- 20:18Speaker 3: I have, but I've been a fan of the show
- 20:19Speaker 3: for a while. You know, I think last night fell
- 20:24Speaker 3: very similar to the early seasons of The Bachelor and Bachelorette.
- 20:28Speaker 3: I think, yeah, for me, there's some characters that I'm
- 20:31Speaker 3: really invested into. And so obviously you just mentioned the
- 20:34Speaker 3: first two a Lemma, what other women I guess really
- 20:37Speaker 3: stood out to you at night on Night one that
- 20:39Speaker 3: you're like, I want to see more of them?
- 20:42Speaker 4: All right, Yeah, let's go through the big ones, the
- 20:44Speaker 4: ones that, like, you know you finished Night one, you
- 20:46Speaker 4: remember their names or you remember something memorable from them. Sandra,
- 20:51Speaker 4: who incredible? How is she seventy? She looks incredible. She
- 20:58Speaker 4: is the one that does breath the work with him,
- 21:01Speaker 4: but just goesfward.
- 21:05Speaker 6: And it was kind of weird. Oh what's your take
- 21:08Speaker 6: on that?
- 21:10Speaker 4: Uh? I think she apparently like has a tendency to curse.
- 21:12Speaker 4: She likes cursing. She talks about that later in the episode.
- 21:15Speaker 4: It may have made more sense talked about earlier in
- 21:17Speaker 4: the episode because.
- 21:18Speaker 6: I was like, is she what word is she saying?
- 21:20Speaker 3: Is she seems?
- 21:20Speaker 4: I was like, the only word I can really imagine.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Her saying is the F word right now? Because she's
- 21:25Speaker 6: not gonna say no.
- 21:27Speaker 3: I imagine there just needed to be more explanation of what, like.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I'm imagining, like she's learned in her life.
- 21:33Speaker 3: That's like, that's in a way a contemplative practice that
- 21:37Speaker 3: if she says it, it like releases something inside of
- 21:39Speaker 3: her and some like it allows her to get some
- 21:41Speaker 3: peace because she's like breathing out the anger something. I
- 21:45Speaker 3: don't know, But we just didn't get an explanation.
- 21:48Speaker 6: That wouldn't have been the best first impression for me.
- 21:50Speaker 3: No, it would have thrown me off. I'd have been like,
- 21:53Speaker 3: and I think also like this dude's I know where
- 21:56Speaker 3: he's from. He's from thirty minutes from my hometown. Like
- 21:58Speaker 3: he's from small Tenant. I don't think he's used to that.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Maybe he is, I don't, I known't. Maybe they're lakes
- 22:04Speaker 3: different than the lake I grew up on, but like
- 22:07Speaker 3: people are usually a little more like subdued in uh
- 22:10Speaker 3: and how they converse. But yes, I think it probably
- 22:13Speaker 3: threw him off. But obviously he wasn't that uninterested in it.
- 22:17Speaker 4: No, definitely not.
- 22:18Speaker 6: She got a rose.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Next up is a very memorable person, Leslie. She comes
- 22:22Speaker 4: out of the limos, she's got a walker trying to
- 22:24Speaker 4: be frail, and he goes so sweetly, do you need help?
- 22:29Speaker 4: Thinking like they actually casted a woman who was like
- 22:33Speaker 4: needing a walker and looks like your prototypical like grandmother,
- 22:39Speaker 4: and she was like no, And then she whips it
- 22:42Speaker 4: off and she's got this tiny little dress on, and
- 22:47Speaker 4: she happens to be an ex of princes. She lives
- 22:51Speaker 4: in Minnesota, which he's famous, which he famously lived in,
- 22:55Speaker 4: and he wrote the song Sexy Dancer about her, so
- 23:00Speaker 4: like she says, you know when she goes, I'm a dancer, choreographer.
- 23:04Speaker 4: She's sound like a dancer choor she is a like
- 23:06Speaker 4: this is a woman who this defines her.
- 23:12Speaker 2: She kind of blew us away.
- 23:14Speaker 4: She's not gonna be with Gary though. This is not
- 23:16Speaker 4: Gary's person.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know what he's into yet, we haven't.
- 23:20Speaker 3: I can't say that. I mean, she is like I
- 23:24Speaker 3: can't even I don't even know who to compare it
- 23:25Speaker 3: to from our our the like from the franchise that
- 23:28Speaker 3: we'd all be familiar with. I would say she's similar
- 23:30Speaker 3: to a Victoria Fuller to me.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Because she's like that's sexy, like overtly sexy.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 3: I think she's probably just gonna be like somebody you're
- 23:38Speaker 3: like goodness, gracious, like you exude a confidence in yourself
- 23:44Speaker 3: and you're beautiful.
- 23:46Speaker 2: And I think you're.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Gonna be around a while because he's gonna be like,
- 23:50Speaker 3: I have never seen anybody like you.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 6: Let's see who else do we have?
- 23:58Speaker 4: April she's the one with which, you know, sorry, I'm
- 24:01Speaker 4: gonna say it because if I don't, you know, I
- 24:03Speaker 4: got to say these things. She's got a little work done, and.
- 24:07Speaker 3: That's probably going to be you know, it seemed like
- 24:10Speaker 3: Twitter was saying that was a consistent theme. I never
- 24:12Speaker 3: see that kind of stuff. I'm sure Jessica probably pointed
- 24:15Speaker 3: out if I would have asked her, I don't pay,
- 24:17Speaker 3: I don't I don't know what to look for.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Yeah, Jared would have had no idea. I was like, oh, yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 4: that's a nose job right there. And there was like
- 24:25Speaker 4: some filler in a lot of these ladies cheeks that
- 24:27Speaker 4: were actually quite obvious to me.
- 24:28Speaker 6: But you know what, go for it.
- 24:30Speaker 4: I am. I. I am a proponent, as we all know.
- 24:34Speaker 4: I talk about it very openly. But yeah, April is
- 24:38Speaker 4: also a handful. She says that she's quite eccentric. She
- 24:42Speaker 4: walked in with an Easter basket because she used to
- 24:44Speaker 4: grow up on a hen farm.
- 24:49Speaker 2: The little dance was kind of cue, like the little
- 24:51Speaker 2: shake cue.
- 24:54Speaker 4: She is such a bachelor girl, you know, she's just
- 24:57Speaker 4: she was cast because she is a character. Teresa didn't
- 25:02Speaker 4: love her entrance as well, because she is just a
- 25:05Speaker 4: little bit too. She was just like a little too
- 25:11Speaker 4: coming in hot for me. She said, it's I came
- 25:14Speaker 4: in with my birthday suit because it's my birthday. And
- 25:17Speaker 4: then she like reveals like takes off this coat and
- 25:20Speaker 4: like basically reveals like like a nude body suit underneath.
- 25:25Speaker 4: And I was like, okay, girl, like just relax a
- 25:27Speaker 4: little bit. What do you think?
- 25:29Speaker 2: Well, she also is the first to kiss Gary, right, so,
- 25:33Speaker 2: but she.
- 25:33Speaker 6: Just came on too strong all over.
- 25:36Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't know if that's too strong, Like
- 25:39Speaker 3: I don't know he liked it. He liked it, I think.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I mean kind of like we were talking about earlier,
- 25:44Speaker 3: what if in your seventies, when you're dating, you're like,
- 25:46Speaker 3: I don't want to play the games anymore, Like just
- 25:48Speaker 3: are you into this or not?
- 25:49Speaker 2: Let's dive in. Let's figure this out.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Like we don't got a ton of time to like
- 25:53Speaker 3: sit in chat, like if you like me, let's go
- 25:55Speaker 3: for it.
- 25:56Speaker 6: See that's still.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Something that like I can't relate to at the stage
- 25:59Speaker 4: because I'm still give me all the heart to get.
- 26:01Speaker 4: I love hard to get. Jared even tells me it's
- 26:03Speaker 4: like this day, He's like, I still make you play
- 26:05Speaker 4: hard to get. Still, I still make you quick for it.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Goodness gracious, Well it's fun.
- 26:11Speaker 3: You know, every every relationship has their own dance, and
- 26:15Speaker 3: I don't know what it's like in their in your seventies.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I mean every season. If you think about how we
- 26:19Speaker 3: break down this show, at some point we say it's
- 26:22Speaker 3: obvious that the lead is into this, and we're able
- 26:24Speaker 3: to pretty much identify what the lead's into. Either it's confidence,
- 26:27Speaker 3: or it's vulnerability, or it's insecurity, or if they just
- 26:30Speaker 3: are really attracted to like the physical parts of people.
- 26:33Speaker 3: We don't know yet. With Gary, we don't know at
- 26:35Speaker 3: all what he could be into. It could be if
- 26:37Speaker 3: you're forward, I'm I'm loving it.
- 26:41Speaker 7: Oh.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Let's mention though, that she does give him a birthday
- 26:44Speaker 4: cupcake during their one on one and she definitely alluded, Oh,
- 26:49Speaker 4: he gave it to her. Okay, he definitely alluded to
- 26:52Speaker 4: him wanting a kiss, because didn't he say something like,
- 26:55Speaker 4: what would you to clean off the frosting from my family?
- 26:59Speaker 2: That was hard. It was hard for you to watch.
- 27:03Speaker 3: However, Kudos to Gary, Like this dude is pulling out
- 27:06Speaker 3: all the stops and he definitely is not acting like
- 27:10Speaker 3: he has not flirted in years. He crushed the best
- 27:15Speaker 3: in recent memory for me. He has crushed the opening
- 27:19Speaker 3: night conversations and lines and filler space and listening. He
- 27:23Speaker 3: crushed it. He crushed it here, like I want to
- 27:26Speaker 3: kiss what you? Would you help me clean it off
- 27:28Speaker 3: if I put a little icing on his face And
- 27:29Speaker 3: then he does it, and then she does it with him,
- 27:32Speaker 3: and it's.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Hard to watch. I didn't love it, but I think
- 27:35Speaker 2: it's cute.
- 27:37Speaker 6: Overall.
- 27:39Speaker 4: He made it seem like he was like very open
- 27:42Speaker 4: to every woman. You know how sometimes when you're watching
- 27:45Speaker 4: The Bachelor, you can tell that like he's just like, ah,
- 27:48Speaker 4: this is not gonna work out for her. Oh no,
- 27:50Speaker 4: there's nothing there. He just seemed to be genuinely willing
- 27:54Speaker 4: to hear everyone out. Like I wouldn't have been intimidated
- 27:57Speaker 4: by him if I was one of the late because like,
- 28:00Speaker 4: I really think that he was, like he's like super
- 28:04Speaker 4: just accepting in open ears.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Oh I think so.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I mean, I think his listening last night is a
- 28:09Speaker 3: good example to all of us on how to listen
- 28:11Speaker 3: and how to respond. Yeah, the last few that stood
- 28:14Speaker 3: out to us, I think for me was Aunt Chippy.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Obviously Jimmy Kimmel's aunt is hilarious.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Plant not a real not a real contestent.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know, I've never known them the plant,
- 28:26Speaker 3: but I bet I'm guessing they said like, hey, will
- 28:29Speaker 3: you just come on? You can you only you only
- 28:31Speaker 3: need to be there for night one and she said, yeah,
- 28:33Speaker 3: I'm man, just be yourself and she said I'm.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Good with that.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I just watched her and I was like, I want
- 28:38Speaker 3: to be at the Kimmel Family thanksgivings, Like I can't
- 28:40Speaker 3: imagine how funny and weird and wacky they are, but
- 28:43Speaker 3: they obviously are something special. You you know, Faith pulls
- 28:48Speaker 3: in in a motorcycle that is just very impressive to me.
- 28:52Speaker 4: Life with me is going to be like quite the
- 28:54Speaker 4: ride or something like that.
- 28:55Speaker 8: She had a cute one, so I mean a lot
- 29:08Speaker 8: of women stood out.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I also think we would be doing it as service
- 29:11Speaker 3: because we won't get to talk about it again if
- 29:14Speaker 3: we don't mention that. Matt James's mom was obviously on
- 29:17Speaker 3: the episode very little screen time, very little. I mean,
- 29:22Speaker 3: we didn't really see much from her other than kind
- 29:25Speaker 3: of telling her or telling Gary, hey, my son was
- 29:29Speaker 3: the bachelor, and he seems to know that, like he
- 29:31Speaker 3: seems he like shakes his head like I knew I
- 29:33Speaker 3: recognize you, or.
- 29:34Speaker 6: He didn't make it seem like it was a big deal.
- 29:36Speaker 3: No, I think it should have been a bigger deal maybe,
- 29:40Speaker 3: But you think they understood it though, because I thought
- 29:42Speaker 3: that he took it in but that didn't react to it.
- 29:44Speaker 4: So I was like, maybe he just doesn't get it.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe he does, doesn't.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I mean it was at this point she was late
- 29:51Speaker 3: in the night, and so he kind of probably just
- 29:53Speaker 3: was tired. I'm shocked you went home night one because
- 29:57Speaker 3: I felt like they should.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Have bonded over some like I wanted this. It felt
- 30:04Speaker 4: very distant the experience, but they obviously didn't hit it
- 30:06Speaker 4: off off it was.
- 30:09Speaker 3: She was probably the one that I watched and I
- 30:12Speaker 3: was like, they have nothing, Like there's no chemistry between
- 30:14Speaker 3: the two of them, and I'm surprised. She's a beautiful person,
- 30:16Speaker 3: but like it was very clear to me that like
- 30:19Speaker 3: they had no chemistry.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess not.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, So Ashley, we're going into the night.
- 30:25Speaker 3: What stood out to you kind of either emotionally or
- 30:29Speaker 3: like holistically as you watched this episode when it came
- 30:32Speaker 3: to the cocktail parties, any stand out to you where
- 30:35Speaker 3: with Gary and the women.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Well, first off, I want to mention that it does
- 30:40Speaker 4: feel like like a blink of an eye that it
- 30:42Speaker 4: was over. So it's an hour long show, not a
- 30:45Speaker 4: two hour long show, which really means it's forty minutes.
- 30:48Speaker 4: So they did cram in a lot in forty minutes.
- 30:52Speaker 4: And I think the place that we missed the most
- 30:55Speaker 4: context with that chop was the cocktail party. The conversations
- 31:01Speaker 4: went by fast, we didn't see a ton of them.
- 31:05Speaker 4: But to answer your question, the moments that I like
- 31:08Speaker 4: look back and I remember were obviously the two kisses,
- 31:11Speaker 4: the one with Theresa and the cupcake, then the other
- 31:14Speaker 4: one with Faith who ends up getting his first impression Rose.
- 31:18Speaker 4: To me, that feels like more of a genuine I mean, yeah,
- 31:20Speaker 4: she got the first impression to wear, so obviously it's
- 31:22Speaker 4: more of like a genuine reaction connection there. I think
- 31:27Speaker 4: it's more mutual. And then again, like I really like Ellen.
- 31:33Speaker 4: She just has like a really good energy about her.
- 31:37Speaker 4: She's like very pretty, and then she also just like
- 31:39Speaker 4: feels she just feels like warm and like happy and
- 31:46Speaker 4: smiling outgoing. I don't know, there's just something about that
- 31:48Speaker 4: I really like take to her on.
- 31:50Speaker 2: And then.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Who else then there was Sandra explains that she likes
- 31:57Speaker 4: the the F bombs. Yeah, was there an anything that?
- 32:00Speaker 4: Was there any other conversation that you that jumps out
- 32:03Speaker 4: of you.
- 32:04Speaker 3: Well, I think I look at the show, you know,
- 32:06Speaker 3: I was looking at the show at this point, analyzing Gary,
- 32:10Speaker 3: because these conversations are sure, they're at some level meaningless
- 32:14Speaker 3: when it comes to the large scope of the show,
- 32:16Speaker 3: because they fly by. No matter if you're on you know,
- 32:22Speaker 3: the Bachelor and Bachelorette, or if you're on the Golden Bachelor.
- 32:24Speaker 3: You're looking for instant chemistry. On night one, it's really
- 32:28Speaker 3: the lead saying whom I'm most attracted to. I don't
- 32:31Speaker 3: know a lot about you yet, but whom I'm most
- 32:33Speaker 3: attracted to. And I do think Gary showed last night
- 32:37Speaker 3: that he was into people that made more of a
- 32:39Speaker 3: concerted effort to get him doing something fun and get
- 32:43Speaker 3: him doing something different than everybody else.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Well, Leslie did dance with them, and.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I think that stood out to him. I think that
- 32:51Speaker 3: his listening was incredible, just the eye contact that he
- 32:54Speaker 3: made in the in the ways that he was responding
- 32:58Speaker 3: to their stories and their reasonings for being there. I
- 33:01Speaker 3: mean a lot of the reasonings for being there was
- 33:03Speaker 3: just like, Hey, I think you're great, Gary, Like you
- 33:05Speaker 3: are a dream.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I am so into you.
- 33:07Speaker 3: This is the best night of my life, people were saying,
- 33:10Speaker 3: And I think he did a great job at navigating
- 33:14Speaker 3: the beautiful moments and the hard moments. And then I think,
- 33:17Speaker 3: obviously with the Rose ceremony, you see him navigate that
- 33:19Speaker 3: really well. He got emotional. This is gonna be hard
- 33:23Speaker 3: for him, and we're going to talk about that as
- 33:24Speaker 3: we talk about the preview for the rest of the season.
- 33:27Speaker 6: And he got.
- 33:27Speaker 4: He got. He also got emotional during some of the conversations,
- 33:30Speaker 4: which is really nice to say. And I just want
- 33:32Speaker 4: to before you go on to say that, like, here's
- 33:34Speaker 4: a difference between our age group versus this age group.
- 33:39Speaker 6: These people say things.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Like, oh my god, this is the best day of
- 33:42Speaker 4: my life, like I couldn't wait, Like you know, like
- 33:44Speaker 4: you can show like so much like interest in somebody
- 33:47Speaker 4: without it coming off as like creepy or try too hard,
- 33:52Speaker 4: Like they just love to hear that they're wanted, Whereas
- 33:56Speaker 4: like if somebody were to say to us, be like,
- 33:58Speaker 4: oh my god, I've been watching you and I just
- 34:00Speaker 4: I can't be like, Okay, well can we play a
- 34:02Speaker 4: little can we play a little game here?
- 34:05Speaker 3: Well, I mean I remember conversations during The Bachelor and
- 34:09Speaker 3: Bachelor when people will say this is the hardest thing
- 34:11Speaker 3: I've ever had to do, And you're like what, yeah,
- 34:13Speaker 3: Like what are you talking about? Like this is the
- 34:15Speaker 3: hardest thing. You just got to let go from reality
- 34:17Speaker 3: Tullivan show, and this is the hardest moment of your life,
- 34:19Speaker 3: Like you're doing our eight then like you're fine.
- 34:21Speaker 6: I know that's me. I was doing fine. I've had
- 34:25Speaker 6: a quite the quite the life.
- 34:27Speaker 3: And you know, for Gary and these women when they
- 34:30Speaker 3: say this is the best night of my life, like
- 34:32Speaker 3: that holds some weight.
- 34:34Speaker 6: That really does.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Said it's the best day of my life in a
- 34:38Speaker 4: long time.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Sure, I mean, but they hold some way to hold
- 34:43Speaker 3: some holds some some days in there. My favorite part
- 34:47Speaker 3: of the whole episode, the best part of the whole
- 34:50Speaker 3: There's two two moments sit out to me. I guess
- 34:53Speaker 3: one is I think Gary is drinking orange juice at
- 34:55Speaker 3: the cocktail parties. I don't think it's a screwdriver.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Much much needed conversation topic.
- 35:00Speaker 3: I think it's just straight orange juice, like and there
- 35:03Speaker 3: is no vodka in that it is it is not
- 35:05Speaker 3: at all. It is as orange as orange can be.
- 35:08Speaker 3: And if there's vodka in it, it's like a splash.
- 35:10Speaker 3: He might be a non drinker.
- 35:11Speaker 4: He might be, or he just didn't want to drink.
- 35:13Speaker 4: He probably wanted to drink orange juice at six am
- 35:16Speaker 4: because it was six.
- 35:18Speaker 2: He could have been one to drink orangejuice.
- 35:19Speaker 3: But the fact that he had a glass of orange
- 35:22Speaker 3: juice hilarious is so great for this The next is
- 35:26Speaker 3: I mean, I love some of the women's comments, like
- 35:28Speaker 3: my contacts heard, I just want to take him out,
- 35:30Speaker 3: Like that's just great stuff. I feel that at this age.
- 35:34Speaker 3: But the best moment for the whole show for me,
- 35:38Speaker 3: the best moment, Yeah, what was Gary the Gary the
- 35:41Speaker 3: Bachelor dancing around looking over his shoulder and says does
- 35:46Speaker 3: anybody have as much fun as we do?
- 35:50Speaker 7: Like?
- 35:51Speaker 2: Or does anybody know how to have fun like we do? Like?
- 35:53Speaker 3: It was something like you would hear your grandfather say,
- 35:59Speaker 3: as you're like having a dance party in your grandparents'
- 36:02Speaker 3: living room as you watch like a movie that they
- 36:05Speaker 3: know you love, and they go and like they bring
- 36:08Speaker 3: out the ice cream with the sprinkles on it because
- 36:11Speaker 3: they just want to spoil you, and they just say,
- 36:13Speaker 3: does anybody have as much fun as we do?
- 36:14Speaker 2: And you're like, no, I love coming to your home.
- 36:18Speaker 6: Hey, I feel so bad.
- 36:19Speaker 4: I like, you guys texted that and I was like, Oh,
- 36:22Speaker 4: that didn't resonate with me the way it did with
- 36:24Speaker 4: you guys.
- 36:24Speaker 6: It's like made you just cry. It's like so sweet.
- 36:28Speaker 4: Though I totally appreciate the moment.
- 36:32Speaker 2: It is so innocent.
- 36:34Speaker 3: It was an incredibly innocent moment. I think that's a
- 36:36Speaker 3: good way to end this podcast, is you know, until
- 36:40Speaker 3: we talk about the preview for the rest of the season.
- 36:42Speaker 3: I think this show on Night one, to me, if
- 36:45Speaker 3: I were to explain in some words, it was innocent,
- 36:49Speaker 3: It was emotional, it was exciting, and I felt the
- 36:55Speaker 3: whole thing for the whole hour that it was on television.
- 36:59Speaker 3: And for that, I'm thankful. I don't get they usually
- 37:02Speaker 3: say that about a show that I spend this much
- 37:03Speaker 3: time watching. For this podcast, I felt it. And I'm
- 37:07Speaker 3: excited for the rest of the season. And I'm also
- 37:09Speaker 3: very excited that I think Jessica and I will watch
- 37:11Speaker 3: every episode together and have something to talk about it, because, yeah,
- 37:15Speaker 3: this is my job, is breaking down this show. And
- 37:18Speaker 3: she doesn't love the show, and I get that, and
- 37:20Speaker 3: I get reasons why, like it probably brings up some
- 37:22Speaker 3: weird feelings. Yeah, but this is different enough where she's like,
- 37:25Speaker 3: I love this, I love the idea of it. And
- 37:29Speaker 3: Night one was beautiful, and I hope the show continues
- 37:31Speaker 3: to be beautiful. I hope in four weeks we're saying
- 37:35Speaker 3: they're nailing it, like this is so good and we're
- 37:38Speaker 3: not saying they've missed the mark, and I don't think
- 37:40Speaker 3: they will. I think I think this show is such
- 37:42Speaker 3: an easy show to produce.
- 37:43Speaker 2: I really do. I think it's the easiest show that
- 37:45Speaker 2: they've ever done.
- 37:46Speaker 7: Much.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you just get them out there and you get
- 37:48Speaker 3: them saying stuff, and they say the funny stuff, they
- 37:50Speaker 3: say the weird stuff. They're aggressive, they're awkward, and it's beautiful.
- 37:56Speaker 4: I also feel like they probably have a lot less
- 37:58Speaker 4: heart of a time getting people to talk about, like
- 38:01Speaker 4: their emotional stories in their life. You know, they're just
- 38:03Speaker 4: gonna serve it up. They don't even have to really ask.
- 38:06Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 38:07Speaker 3: I look, try to judge a seventy year old, I know, like,
- 38:09Speaker 3: come on, try to hate on a seven year old
- 38:11Speaker 3: trying to date like kids like fools, Like that's not
- 38:15Speaker 3: gonna be fun for anybody. Well, the sneak peak of
- 38:17Speaker 3: the rest of the season is it is wild, it's captivating.
- 38:25Speaker 3: We obviously see very similar storylines that we see to
- 38:28Speaker 3: other seasons. It feels like now the new bread and
- 38:31Speaker 3: butter of the show, he's falling in love with multiple people. Ashley,
- 38:36Speaker 3: what do you think about that seventy year old allowing
- 38:39Speaker 3: themselves to fall in love with multiple people?
- 38:41Speaker 6: Well, I'm not surprised.
- 38:43Speaker 4: I'm dying to know how many weeks it took to
- 38:45Speaker 4: film this show, because we know it's significantly less than
- 38:48Speaker 4: the normal show, which is two months, which is already
- 38:51Speaker 4: really a very fast process, I feel like.
- 38:56Speaker 6: But I also think at.
- 38:57Speaker 4: The same time as people are probably just like, he's
- 39:00Speaker 4: serving up the feelings super fast, so maybe the you know,
- 39:04Speaker 4: the reciprocation of the feelings happens faster. I feel like
- 39:08Speaker 4: it's you know, how you were saying that the being
- 39:09Speaker 4: out of practice with all the heartbreak. It's like this
- 39:13Speaker 4: is this is where it's really sad, is when they
- 39:15Speaker 4: get to like the top something something top four.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Or five, and you're like, I think you'll cry every rose.
- 39:21Speaker 4: Yeah, you're like, oh my gosh, I'm not surprised to
- 39:25Speaker 4: hear that he's going to fall in love with multiple people,
- 39:27Speaker 4: not at all, No.
- 39:29Speaker 6: Yeah, he just seems very emotionally available.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Well, I think they're diving in.
- 39:34Speaker 3: I think there's an intentionality to this thing that will
- 39:37Speaker 3: make them open up their hearts more. Now, he does
- 39:40Speaker 3: have a line that we see that he says, you know,
- 39:45Speaker 3: he's talking about his wife passing away, So that was
- 39:47Speaker 3: the hardest day of his life.
- 39:48Speaker 2: And this is a damn close second.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Oh, I know, And he's great and he's bing and
- 39:53Speaker 3: like he has like he has like the.
- 39:56Speaker 2: He has like the like the dad tea you know,
- 40:00Speaker 2: I'm talking about, like the one in the world. Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 2: there's like a depth to their voice.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Yea, Like they don't know how to cry and they're
- 40:09Speaker 3: not gonna let the tears overwhelm them, so they're holding
- 40:12Speaker 3: it in. But yet they're so emotional. He's he's so
- 40:14Speaker 3: frustrated with what's happening. So obviously I think we can
- 40:19Speaker 3: point to this season becomes very real for multiple people,
- 40:24Speaker 3: including our Golden Bachelor, and I think we see that
- 40:28Speaker 3: the tears that Gary is showing will not be stopped
- 40:33Speaker 3: throughout the entirety of the season. I think every breakup
- 40:36Speaker 3: is going to be hard for him in a different way.
- 40:38Speaker 3: And I think He's going to have to end relationships
- 40:41Speaker 3: that he's probably feeling something for because he hasn't felt
- 40:45Speaker 3: a relationship in a long time. Even though I do
- 40:47Speaker 3: think something unique to this season will be Gary knows
- 40:50Speaker 3: what it feels like to have true love and so
- 40:53Speaker 3: that's what he's kind of looking for again. Not the
- 40:55Speaker 3: same kind of love, something something different, something new, But
- 40:59Speaker 3: he's looking for love again.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Do you think his wife is in heaven laughing?
- 41:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 41:06Speaker 3: I mean, I would imagine if the daughter signed our
- 41:10Speaker 3: our Bachelor, is it harder signed the Golden Bachelor up?
- 41:14Speaker 2: They knew that, you.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Know, his wife want and their mother would want him
- 41:21Speaker 3: to do this. Yeah, Like I think I think if
- 41:23Speaker 3: the daughter's saying, Dad, we really want you to do this,
- 41:25Speaker 3: they knew it would have been a wish of his
- 41:27Speaker 3: late wife and as a result, Yeah, I bet she's like,
- 41:30Speaker 3: this is ridiculous, This is wild, And I'm so excited
- 41:34Speaker 3: to celebrate with him as he goes on the rest
- 41:37Speaker 3: of his life with somebody you know, knew. But my
- 41:40Speaker 3: memory's still there, and I think there's so much more
- 41:43Speaker 3: to break down when it comes to this show. There's
- 41:44Speaker 3: so much more to talk about. Can we talk about
- 41:47Speaker 3: how weird of an emotional switch it is to go
- 41:49Speaker 3: from this to Paradise.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Well, you almost kind of need it because you go
- 41:53Speaker 4: from this heavy emotional show to just foolery.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I just felt like almost dirty. I don't know,
- 42:02Speaker 3: like it just felt was so weird to me. I'm
- 42:06Speaker 3: hoping that sucking toes. Yeah, sucking toes is like the
- 42:09Speaker 3: first scene, You're like, what is going on? Like, I
- 42:12Speaker 3: can't I can't do this mentally, I can't make this
- 42:15Speaker 3: these jumps. But I'm hoping both of these shows do
- 42:18Speaker 3: well enough where they have their own nights here next season,
- 42:21Speaker 3: because if we have to always do Golden Bachelor in Paradise,
- 42:23Speaker 3: I think I'm gonna be all twisted up inside.
- 42:27Speaker 4: All Right, Well, every week we're gonna have a grandma
- 42:30Speaker 4: on the show, or I guess I don't know if
- 42:32Speaker 4: they're all gonna be grandma's, but they're all going to
- 42:34Speaker 4: be of the age range of these Golden Bachelor contestants.
- 42:39Speaker 4: So our first Golden Guests will be joining us after
- 42:45Speaker 4: the break to give her opinion on the night.
- 42:58Speaker 3: So every week here on the Almost fame Is Podcast,
- 43:01Speaker 3: We're going to start something new, something exciting, something to
- 43:05Speaker 3: even continue pushing this Golden Bachelor forward with almost Fames
- 43:12Speaker 3: podcast because we just love it so much. We're going
- 43:14Speaker 3: to bring on somebody that is in the age range
- 43:17Speaker 3: of the contestants on the show.
- 43:19Speaker 2: On the Golden Bachelor.
- 43:20Speaker 3: We're gonna get their thoughts each week on what they saw,
- 43:24Speaker 3: what they expected. Was it shocking, were there You know
- 43:28Speaker 3: what I'm interested in, Ashley, is was there anything that
- 43:31Speaker 3: stood out to them because of like sayings and phrases
- 43:34Speaker 3: that maybe they haven't heard in a while because they
- 43:35Speaker 3: don't we don't like say them in our common language today.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Maybe they've gone away, but you know on the show,
- 43:41Speaker 3: they're like, no, I remember when people used to say that.
- 43:43Speaker 3: This week, we have a very special guest, Sherry Sugarman,
- 43:47Speaker 3: the aunt of Amy Sugarman, who.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Produces this podcast. Cherry, Welcome to the show.
- 43:55Speaker 7: Thank you so.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Sherry.
- 43:58Speaker 6: What's your initial take on The Golden Bachelor.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I like it.
- 44:02Speaker 7: I like it. I think there is a need to
- 44:05Speaker 7: show people that are a little more mature and have
- 44:09Speaker 7: experienced life, and I think this is a very nice
- 44:14Speaker 7: new approach. I've watched a bachelor and bachelorette from time
- 44:18Speaker 7: to time and I'm wondering, you know, what the demographics are.
- 44:23Speaker 7: I'm hoping that you're going to get a very good response.
- 44:27Speaker 7: Have you have you heard anything about the viewers.
- 44:30Speaker 3: The ratings aren't all yet. We're kind of hoping they
- 44:33Speaker 3: would be. They're not all yet, they should be soon.
- 44:36Speaker 7: I think there's a need for people my age to
- 44:40Speaker 7: be able to love, to be able to find love again.
- 44:43Speaker 7: We all want to find love, and if we don't
- 44:45Speaker 7: already have it, we're certainly looking for it.
- 44:47Speaker 4: Well, you have been married to your high school sweetheart
- 44:51Speaker 4: for quite some time and you're close to eighty Would
- 44:53Speaker 4: you ever think of yourself as being a participant on
- 44:56Speaker 4: the show? If you guys, if you were not Belle married?
- 45:00Speaker 7: Would I ever think of myself as being on the show? Is?
- 45:02Speaker 1: What?
- 45:03Speaker 4: Yeah? What kind of personality do you think it takes.
- 45:08Speaker 7: I think it takes an outgoing personality, that is for certain.
- 45:12Speaker 7: I think it's a difficult thing to expose yourself to
- 45:16Speaker 7: the public. You have to be pretty confident, and you
- 45:20Speaker 7: have to want it very badly.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Now, Sherry, you know, I have a few things I'm
- 45:25Speaker 3: very interested in when I talk to you. This is
- 45:26Speaker 3: the first episode of The Golden Bachelor.
- 45:29Speaker 2: You are a first guest to break this.
- 45:32Speaker 7: Down my goodness.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Okay, the criticism and there is very little okay of
- 45:39Speaker 3: this show so far, and I think as weeks go on,
- 45:42Speaker 3: they'll probably be even less because people will get to
- 45:45Speaker 3: know the stories of each participant. Right, There's been a
- 45:47Speaker 3: lot of life lived, a lot of stories of ups
- 45:49Speaker 3: and downs. But the criticism so far is that people
- 45:52Speaker 3: maybe don't feel like this is a fair representation of
- 45:55Speaker 3: people in their sixties and seventies because a compliment to
- 45:58Speaker 3: all the contestants and the Golden Bachelor, they're all extremely
- 46:01Speaker 3: good looking, Like everybody is beautiful, and he's very handsome.
- 46:07Speaker 3: Do you if when you hear that these are people
- 46:10Speaker 3: in your age range, what's your response?
- 46:15Speaker 7: I think they're inspirational. I mean I, as a viewer,
- 46:19Speaker 7: would much rather see people who are physically fit and
- 46:24Speaker 7: who are attractive to represent seniors. I mean, obviously some
- 46:32Speaker 7: people are ill and you know, have lots of problems
- 46:36Speaker 7: and could not be on the show. But for the
- 46:38Speaker 7: most part, I enjoy seeing these women. Well, I have
- 46:42Speaker 7: enjoyed seeing these women. We've only had one episode so far.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Yeah, well, and it kind of feels like, uh, you
- 46:48Speaker 3: know sixty today is not old. Seventy is not old, right,
- 46:52Speaker 3: like eighty is not old Like the people I live
- 46:56Speaker 3: in Colorado, eighty might be old. Ben Oh, I don't think.
- 47:01Speaker 2: I don't think so. I don't think you can say
- 47:03Speaker 2: that approaching. Yeah, I don't think you can say that.
- 47:06Speaker 3: And I live in Colorado, right I live on a
- 47:08Speaker 3: street that they're eighty five year old's biking road biking
- 47:12Speaker 3: up and down this mountain that I live on every
- 47:15Speaker 3: day every day.
- 47:16Speaker 2: I know four of them.
- 47:17Speaker 3: They get out and they ride twenty five miles and
- 47:19Speaker 3: they're booking it right now.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Yes, eighty five.
- 47:23Speaker 3: It means you're in, you know, the second definitely the
- 47:25Speaker 3: second half of your life. You're in the final chapters
- 47:27Speaker 3: of your life. Is the quote on this show said,
- 47:30Speaker 3: you know, we're excited for another ten years of love.
- 47:33Speaker 3: If somebody said that, that's great, it's a great perspective.
- 47:36Speaker 3: But I think what it's showing is as you get older,
- 47:38Speaker 3: it doesn't mean that you just got to sit in
- 47:41Speaker 3: a nursing home in a chair all day, like you
- 47:43Speaker 3: can still get out there and have fun.
- 47:47Speaker 7: Correct.
- 47:49Speaker 4: So who stood out to you last night? Who do
- 47:51Speaker 4: you like? For Gary Well?
- 47:53Speaker 7: It's interesting. I did like his choice for the first
- 47:56Speaker 7: impression rows. It seems like usually the past people who
- 48:01Speaker 7: were picked end up not being the ones at the end.
- 48:04Speaker 7: But I like her. I think she's really genuine. I
- 48:07Speaker 7: think she's fun, she's attractive. I think she has she
- 48:12Speaker 7: I can check all the boxes as far as you know.
- 48:16Speaker 7: My my impression of her and was I think he
- 48:19Speaker 7: likes I think he likes brunets with long hair.
- 48:22Speaker 4: That's the thing he does too. I was noticing that
- 48:24Speaker 4: as well.
- 48:25Speaker 7: Many women that I was very impressed with and some
- 48:28Speaker 7: not so much.
- 48:29Speaker 6: Yeah, who was not so much for you?
- 48:32Speaker 7: Well, I don't got to get in trouble, but I
- 48:34Speaker 7: know that this.
- 48:34Speaker 6: Is okay, nobody, You're not going to get in trouble.
- 48:37Speaker 7: Okay. Well, very pretty, pretty woman, very intelligent woman, the
- 48:42Speaker 7: chicken lady. I think she just kind of wore me out.
- 48:46Speaker 7: And I have a feeling they're probably, you know the
- 48:50Speaker 7: woman that i'm that I'm.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Talking to one that lived on the hen farm April April. Yeah,
- 48:55Speaker 4: well April is a handful. We can tell the April
- 48:57Speaker 4: is a handful.
- 48:58Speaker 7: Yeah, she's a handful. She's definitely antle. She would be
- 49:01Speaker 7: very high maintenance for this lovely Jerry. I mean, I
- 49:05Speaker 7: think I think she would. I think she would, but
- 49:07Speaker 7: she's amusing and I like that aspect of the show
- 49:11Speaker 7: because I think we always you always need to keep
- 49:13Speaker 7: somebody that keeps you laughing. And it's and is yeah,
- 49:17Speaker 7: and it's it's worth watching.
- 49:19Speaker 4: So did you find it to be more emotional than
- 49:22Speaker 4: the main show?
- 49:25Speaker 7: Not not yet, but you know, we've only had had
- 49:28Speaker 7: one one showing of it, so you have to give
- 49:31Speaker 7: me a little more time to evaluate that.
- 49:33Speaker 6: Okay, he's emotional. He was emotional, Yeah, and package was just.
- 49:38Speaker 7: Like, can I get that? I get that? And I
- 49:40Speaker 7: think he's I think men who have lost their spouses,
- 49:44Speaker 7: who have come from good marriages want that again. So
- 49:49Speaker 7: I think he's very genuine. I think he really is
- 49:51Speaker 7: looking for someone to marry.
- 49:54Speaker 4: Do you have any predictions for what's to come this season?
- 49:57Speaker 4: Because we saw quite the te It's multiple people are saying,
- 50:02Speaker 4: I love you now. Great. This this show was shot
- 50:07Speaker 4: very quickly. I don't even know if it took six
- 50:09Speaker 4: weeks to shoot the entire show. So these feelings are developing, really,
- 50:13Speaker 4: these feelings are developing quickly as well.
- 50:15Speaker 7: Well as seniors we don't have a lot of time,
- 50:17Speaker 7: so better to shoot it. I show in the middle
- 50:20Speaker 7: of it.
- 50:24Speaker 4: So how do you feel like Gary is going to
- 50:27Speaker 4: like handle all this emotional pressure.
- 50:30Speaker 7: I think it could be a little difficult for him.
- 50:32Speaker 7: I think it could be a little bit. So I
- 50:34Speaker 7: think he comes over as a very nice man, so
- 50:38Speaker 7: we certainly don't want him to get hurt, and he
- 50:41Speaker 7: doesn't want to hurt any any other women either. I
- 50:44Speaker 7: think that's going to be a really an issue for him,
- 50:47Speaker 7: because just saying goodbye to the few that he said
- 50:49Speaker 7: goodbye to last night was very emotional.
- 50:51Speaker 4: For him, so sweet to see him cry when the
- 50:54Speaker 4: lady was relieving.
- 50:56Speaker 6: He was so nice.
- 50:57Speaker 4: I've never seen a bachelor cry at the first rest ceremony.
- 51:02Speaker 7: Men should not be afraid to cry, no.
- 51:05Speaker 3: Feeling the There was a comment last night at sherry
- 51:10Speaker 3: Uh one of the ladies I think I think it
- 51:13Speaker 3: was seven years, said she hadn't kissed a guy in
- 51:16Speaker 3: seven years when she kissed Gary, and.
- 51:19Speaker 2: That made me.
- 51:20Speaker 4: She said several years.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Several or seven, I don't know what it was.
- 51:25Speaker 4: I think it could have been more than seven.
- 51:27Speaker 2: However it was, it was a long time.
- 51:29Speaker 7: Was that Teresa is that.
- 51:31Speaker 2: I think it was, yeah, and.
- 51:34Speaker 3: That maybe for all those years she did right, It was.
- 51:38Speaker 3: It was very it was very nice to watch.
- 51:41Speaker 7: Very aggressive, very forward.
- 51:45Speaker 3: That was my question to you, Okay, So that when
- 51:47Speaker 3: she said that, Jessica and I both got watery eyed
- 51:52Speaker 3: because we're just like, you know, this is a very
- 51:53Speaker 3: special thing for these these women and for Gary, right.
- 51:56Speaker 3: I mean, they maybe have been a little lonely, maybe
- 51:59Speaker 3: they haven't had in a while, and then they get
- 52:01Speaker 3: asked to be on this show and they get to
- 52:03Speaker 3: dress up. Like, think about the excitement as you're dressing
- 52:06Speaker 3: up and you're putting your makeup on and you're going
- 52:08Speaker 3: on a date for maybe the first time in seven
- 52:11Speaker 3: or several years, whatever it was. I would love to
- 52:15Speaker 3: hear what you think of that. You know, with your friendships,
- 52:18Speaker 3: obviously you're still happily married, but with the people that
- 52:20Speaker 3: you know that maybe are not any longer due to
- 52:23Speaker 3: a loss of a loved one or a separation, Like,
- 52:26Speaker 3: what's your perspective at your age for people who have,
- 52:29Speaker 3: you know, not been dating for a while.
- 52:32Speaker 7: I think it's difficult, and I think for her this
- 52:35Speaker 7: was this is an amazing opportunity and I just My
- 52:41Speaker 7: impression though, was that I thought she was just a
- 52:42Speaker 7: little too forward. Maybe I'm kind of old school, but
- 52:46Speaker 7: I thought she should have taken it just a little slower.
- 52:49Speaker 7: She's charming, and I certainly would love her to be happy.
- 52:53Speaker 7: You know, she's a very likable person.
- 52:56Speaker 4: She's getting tips from the main show and all the
- 52:57Speaker 4: young uns.
- 52:58Speaker 7: Oh, the young people. He probably probably yes, yes. And
- 53:03Speaker 7: of course, man like Jerry, I mean, you know, they
- 53:05Speaker 7: they don't want to be rejected. So when they meet
- 53:08Speaker 7: somebody like Teresa who's somewhat forward, I think it makes
- 53:11Speaker 7: him feel wonderful that, you know, he's so he's so admired,
- 53:17Speaker 7: and she would like to be with him for so much,
- 53:20Speaker 7: you know, so much. But it was only it's only
- 53:22Speaker 7: the first time they met, So I'm saying, wait a minute,
- 53:25Speaker 7: let's just go a little slower. That would just be
- 53:27Speaker 7: my opinion.
- 53:29Speaker 3: I do think that's an interesting dynamic because obviously, you know,
- 53:33Speaker 3: if you're in your thirties, you know, it's not uncommon.
- 53:37Speaker 3: I think the question that I used to get asked
- 53:38Speaker 3: when I was dating was would you kiss on a
- 53:41Speaker 3: You know, like two girls would ask each other like,
- 53:44Speaker 3: would you kiss somebody in their first date, right, especially
- 53:46Speaker 3: growing up in the church, that was a very common
- 53:49Speaker 3: question of would you kiss somebody in your first date?
- 53:50Speaker 3: And they'd all chatter about it, and the guys would
- 53:53Speaker 3: talk about it too, right, So it wasn't uncommon to kiss.
- 53:58Speaker 2: On a first date.
- 54:00Speaker 3: As I think about, you know, my even my parents' generation,
- 54:05Speaker 3: which is, you know, in their sixties and mid sixties, now, like,
- 54:09Speaker 3: I think it would have been uncommon for them. I
- 54:11Speaker 3: think that would have been something that have been frowned upon.
- 54:13Speaker 3: I think it would have very I think have been
- 54:14Speaker 3: very taboo to even bring up, even if people are
- 54:18Speaker 3: doing it. I don't think it was a question even
- 54:20Speaker 3: offered to be asked. And so it's interesting to think, yes,
- 54:24Speaker 3: now we've watched a few people kiss, you know, on
- 54:27Speaker 3: the first night, and that has to be a really
- 54:30Speaker 3: big deal to them.
- 54:32Speaker 7: Well that was quite a kiss.
- 54:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they're making out.
- 54:35Speaker 7: A little check on the she who was the woman
- 54:39Speaker 7: who was who came, who was on roller skates, who
- 54:45Speaker 7: presented herself in the beginning on roller skates. I know
- 54:48Speaker 7: that there's the aerobics teacher who is an ice skater,
- 54:51Speaker 7: roller skater or whatever, but she was the one that
- 54:53Speaker 7: came in the Walker, Is that correct?
- 54:56Speaker 5: Uh?
- 54:56Speaker 3: The one in the Walker I think ended up being
- 54:58Speaker 3: the one that said she dated Prince.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Yes, because that was That's what she's gonna be known
- 55:03Speaker 4: for to me, is the woman who dated Prince and
- 55:05Speaker 4: he wrote a song about her?
- 55:07Speaker 7: Okay? And was she Leslie or am I getting this missed?
- 55:09Speaker 4: She's Leslie?
- 55:10Speaker 7: Yeah, got it. But then that was a woman that
- 55:12Speaker 7: came in on roller skates, not Leslie, and I can't
- 55:15Speaker 7: who she was. I thought that was really cool.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Yeah, but remember I don't know her name.
- 55:21Speaker 7: I can't place it.
- 55:22Speaker 2: You know, the speaking of what you're just saying. Though.
- 55:24Speaker 3: The interesting thing share to me is as we watch
- 55:27Speaker 3: this season go by, and as I said, I get
- 55:29Speaker 3: to watch eighty five year olds up and down my
- 55:31Speaker 3: road all day long. Biking was like they're mountain climbing,
- 55:35Speaker 3: Like they're they're going down mountains on this show. That
- 55:38Speaker 3: was shown in the previews, like they're not taking it
- 55:43Speaker 3: easy on anybody now. And I say that with maybe
- 55:47Speaker 3: the meanest thing they'll do to anybody all season.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I think it was inappropriate.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Jessica and I thought talked about a thousand different ways
- 55:54Speaker 3: they could have done this better they made these poor
- 55:58Speaker 3: people stay yeah, through the night into the morning. I
- 56:05Speaker 3: don't do that at all.
- 56:07Speaker 4: It was the first time the host has ever said
- 56:10Speaker 4: it's the last rose this morning.
- 56:14Speaker 3: I think there was an emphasis on, like, yeah, we
- 56:16Speaker 3: just made these people stay.
- 56:17Speaker 6: Up all night this evening.
- 56:18Speaker 4: It was never it's never been brighter in there. It
- 56:21Speaker 4: was like, really weird.
- 56:23Speaker 7: That's something that we were not privileged to see.
- 56:25Speaker 6: So, yeah, you were, no, you saw it. It was
- 56:27Speaker 6: light in that room. And he said this.
- 56:29Speaker 7: Morning late in that room.
- 56:30Speaker 6: Oh, it was light, the morning.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Light through the windows.
- 56:35Speaker 3: I guess you would have to have been in that
- 56:36Speaker 3: room before, because you know, to look through the windows.
- 56:40Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 56:40Speaker 2: So when was the last time you stayed up all night, Sherry?
- 56:44Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, I guess a few New Year's Eves ago.
- 56:47Speaker 7: Not on a regular basis. I'm an early riser. I'm
- 56:50Speaker 7: a golfer, so I get up at the crack of
- 56:52Speaker 7: dawn and then you know, about ten o'clock I've done.
- 56:56Speaker 7: But I'm a I'm a morning day person. But I
- 57:01Speaker 7: have a lot of friends who stay up till two,
- 57:03Speaker 7: three o'clock in the morning, but then I don't call
- 57:06Speaker 7: them until ten, ten or eleven in the morning. You know,
- 57:09Speaker 7: they're they're they're late late risers and they stay up
- 57:13Speaker 7: at night. But it's not my style.
- 57:18Speaker 3: The you put in more hours than I do, then
- 57:22Speaker 3: I'm an I'm an early early, better early rise. I
- 57:24Speaker 3: just think it was painful for it had to be
- 57:26Speaker 3: painful because I've been in that experience as the bachelor
- 57:29Speaker 3: and known what it feels like to be so tired,
- 57:33Speaker 3: and then to know that, yes, these people are you know,
- 57:36Speaker 3: when I was the Bachelors in my mid twenties, and
- 57:38Speaker 3: so to know fifty years later they were putting in
- 57:42Speaker 3: the same type of hours that's not fun.
- 57:45Speaker 2: In fact, Jimmy car'ar them.
- 57:47Speaker 7: I admired them.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I admired at twenty four.
- 57:50Speaker 7: But when I think you chose well, I mean I
- 57:54Speaker 7: think the the the program, you know, whoever books all
- 57:57Speaker 7: the people, I mean, they picked well well so far.
- 58:01Speaker 7: Now I think it's going to turn into somewhat of
- 58:04Speaker 7: a train wreck, because it always does. I'm just kind
- 58:06Speaker 7: of waiting for that to happen, and I guess that's
- 58:08Speaker 7: what makes people view the program a little bit more.
- 58:12Speaker 7: I like it when people are funny but not you know,
- 58:15Speaker 7: crazy crazy.
- 58:17Speaker 4: I'm honestly looking forward to more sappy stories.
- 58:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I will definitely continue to watch it.
- 58:25Speaker 7: It held my.
- 58:25Speaker 5: Interest more than The Bachelor and Bachelorette lately, but then
- 58:32Speaker 5: you know, it's it's more age appropriate for me, it's
- 58:35Speaker 5: more realistic for me to see this.
- 58:38Speaker 7: Well, I can identify with that.
- 58:40Speaker 3: My final our final thought with you, Sherry is a
- 58:42Speaker 3: question I have.
- 58:45Speaker 2: Obviously.
- 58:46Speaker 3: Again we'll mention that you've been happily married for how
- 58:48Speaker 3: many years?
- 58:50Speaker 7: And I'm really going to give away my age. I
- 58:53Speaker 7: am going to be married in June sixty years.
- 58:56Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 58:58Speaker 6: That's amazing.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Something.
- 59:00Speaker 7: So I married my high school sweetheart and I married
- 59:02Speaker 7: him when I was very very young. And he is
- 59:05Speaker 7: the twin brother of Amy's father.
- 59:08Speaker 2: Okay, well, very cool.
- 59:10Speaker 1: You know.
- 59:12Speaker 3: Again, the final thought here is watching last night, there's
- 59:16Speaker 3: always I mean, for Ashley and myself, one of our
- 59:18Speaker 3: favorite parts about talking about the Bachelor franchise is, Yes,
- 59:22Speaker 3: the drama and the funny things are great and they're entertaining,
- 59:26Speaker 3: but there's moments I think it will happen more during
- 59:30Speaker 3: the Golden Bachelor than it does during the other shows
- 59:33Speaker 3: where the show really kind of like makes an impact
- 59:36Speaker 3: with reality. All of a sudden, you feel like you
- 59:38Speaker 3: know you're watching something that will affect this person after
- 59:42Speaker 3: the show is done. And I think that brings That's
- 59:46Speaker 3: that's a really good part of reality television. You feel
- 59:48Speaker 3: like you can relate or you feel like the people
- 59:51Speaker 3: on your television are feeling something that you know is
- 59:55Speaker 3: going to impact them. And last night watching our Golden
- 59:59Speaker 3: Bachelor and Jessica and I talking about this Forever, Jessica
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: cry through the whole show. She just just gets emost.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: She's just an emotional person. But you know, he he
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: was married for forty three years to his sweetheart. She
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: sadly passes away. That's it's been a few years since
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: she has passed away. And last night was probably the
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: first time he has had to break up with somebody
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: in fifty years. Right for me again to relate it
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: back to the other show, it wasn't an unfamiliar feeling
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: for me. You know, I didn't go out there breaking
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: up with everybody, but.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I I knew it.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: Was something that could be expected, and I had some training,
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: I guess during that time and doing it, even if
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: it was still as hard fifty years of not hurting
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: somebody else's feelings rel you know, romantically, Sherry, what would
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: you say to that?
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it's it's you've had no practice. It's
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: a hard thing and as I said, he appears to
- 1:01:04Speaker 7: be very genuine, so he doesn't want to hurt anybody.
- 1:01:08Speaker 7: This is going to be the most difficult part for
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: him is when he has to say goodbye to these women.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: Sarah, you married your high school sweetheart. Have you ever
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: broken a heart?
- 1:01:20Speaker 7: Have I ever broken a heart?
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: No?
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: I don't think I ever. Have I dated a little
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: bit in between, and so did my husband, but no, no,
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: I haven't experienced that really, although have you my marriage?
- 1:01:33Speaker 7: I think I've sometimes broken my husband's heart and he's
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: broken mine at times and we've been able to get
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: past it. I mean I have felt that emotion from
- 1:01:45Speaker 7: time to time.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: My mom and dad they've been married for over forty
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: years now, but they got married when my mom was
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: twenty two and met when my mom was twenty and
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: my sister and I are sometimes busy at her, were like,
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: you don't even know.
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: What our break feels like. Like that's so crazy. You're
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: just like going to go through life by marriage.
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: You can experience it with your spouse. I believe that
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: might not be a breakup, but it's it can it
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: can be heartbreaking. Marriage is difficult, It really is difficult,
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: you know, and you have to you can. It's easy
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: to be lovers in the beginning, but you know, to
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: remain friends, that's the challenge. That is the challenge.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: I believe that coming.
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: From a wise old woman.
- 1:02:29Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Well, you're a beautiful woman yourself. Thank you for being
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: our first guest. Breaking down.
- 1:02:37Speaker 7: To be your first guest, it was a little bit nervous,
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: but thank you for inviting me.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: No nerves here.
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: I didn't want to turn my niece down. So good
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: luck with this program and I will pass the word
- 1:02:49Speaker 7: on to my friends to to please watch it.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Let's do some come on, get the people together, let's
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: pour the wine, let's celebrate.
- 1:02:58Speaker 7: I can do that.
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: Let's show every buddy that age is just a number
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: and love exists for as long as you want it
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: to aunt.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Sherry, thanks for coming on the podcast.
