- 0:26Speaker 1: in the middle of Ota is good opportunity to catch
- 0:29Speaker 1: up with a John stinchcome to off season Saints head
- 0:32Speaker 1: into year two under Kellen Moore. Hey, John, we appreciate
- 0:35Speaker 1: it man. How are you.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm doing great, appreciate you having me on.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Always our pleasure. There's some contractual stuff that think's interesting
- 0:42Speaker 1: for two players. Love your thoughts. So we haven't had
- 0:44Speaker 1: a chance to visit with you in a good bit.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Firstus Alvin Kamara, his agent, says he expects to be
- 0:49Speaker 1: back this year. Saints went through this sort of rarely
- 0:53Speaker 1: used restructure. You have a strong feeling one way or another.
- 0:56Speaker 1: What's gonna happen there with Alvin?
- 0:58Speaker 2: I sure hope he's back. I haven't heard any inclinations
- 1:02Speaker 2: from either side that would indicate that they're looking to
- 1:07Speaker 2: move or he's looking to move him. So you know,
- 1:10Speaker 2: there's a lot of smoke makes you concerned, but honestly,
- 1:14Speaker 2: I think it's a great opportunity for AK. I think
- 1:16Speaker 2: you look at the growth of the offense, I think
- 1:19Speaker 2: the addition of APN will only help him be more efficient.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I think the ask has been so high for these
- 1:26Speaker 2: past few years, just the amount of offense that has
- 1:31Speaker 2: run through him. Now you kind of unload it and
- 1:34Speaker 2: you can allow him to be his best without asking
- 1:38Speaker 2: him to carry fifty sixty percent of the offense. So
- 1:42Speaker 2: I hope everything's worked out and he's wearing the black
- 1:46Speaker 2: and gold come the fall. And I think indications are that,
- 1:51Speaker 2: as of right now, that's the way it'll work.
- 1:53Speaker 1: The others Chris Olave last week in OTAs he said
- 1:58Speaker 1: he's not going to hold out, but the expectation is
- 2:00Speaker 1: they'll get a deal done before the season. John, I
- 2:03Speaker 1: think the real question with a Lave is where does
- 2:07Speaker 1: he slot If you look at sort of the market
- 2:09Speaker 1: value projections. They're looking to pay him like a top
- 2:13Speaker 1: five receiver. If the Saints were going to do that,
- 2:16Speaker 1: it feels like that would already be done, right. So
- 2:18Speaker 1: where I kind of believe actions speak louder than words.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Where do you think a lave falls in that sort
- 2:26Speaker 1: of hierarchy of NFL receivers.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Boy, that's a tough read there, just because of health concerns.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I think when Chris o'lave is healthy, he's up there
- 2:36Speaker 2: with the top five. It's just a matter of availability,
- 2:40Speaker 2: and that's been his biggest question mark his entire career
- 2:45Speaker 2: is when he's available. When he's out there, he's tough
- 2:48Speaker 2: to guard, he's a playmaker. You want him on your squad.
- 2:52Speaker 2: The concerns come in when you're going to pay a
- 2:54Speaker 2: guy like that, Are you getting all seventeen games out
- 2:58Speaker 2: of him? Or are you concern that we're not going
- 3:01Speaker 2: to see the end of the season or you know
- 3:04Speaker 2: it fits in spurts. So I think that's that's one
- 3:07Speaker 2: of the things that you're considering. I also look at
- 3:10Speaker 2: at Mickey Loomis's track record and Kay's track record of
- 3:14Speaker 2: paying guys, and it's always on their timetable. So you know,
- 3:19Speaker 2: as a player, you want to get things done, you
- 3:22Speaker 2: want that security blanket, and that's not always offered, and
- 3:25Speaker 2: it's been. It's not like New Orleans doesn't pay guys,
- 3:30Speaker 2: but it certainly is on their timetable and not the players.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And well said, we saw this with Kamara a couple
- 3:36Speaker 1: of years ago as well. Speaking speaking of John Stinchcombe
- 3:39Speaker 1: is our guest, you know what a quick follow up
- 3:42Speaker 1: on the Lave situation. I guess John, I look at
- 3:46Speaker 1: it and go, okay, if they if they thought a
- 3:48Speaker 1: Lave was a top five, top ten receiver in the NFL,
- 3:51Speaker 1: then why use a top ten pick on Jordan Tyson?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Like the Bengals wouldn't have Jamar Chase, they wouldn't use
- 3:56Speaker 1: a top ten pick on a receiver. So what do
- 3:59Speaker 1: you make of if anything, does drafting Jordan Tyson top
- 4:04Speaker 1: ten speak to maybe their feeling on a Lave.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Well, it's funny that you mentioned the Bengals because of
- 4:11Speaker 2: how they paid T Higgins and so I think in
- 4:14Speaker 2: today's offense, you got to have two weapons, at least
- 4:18Speaker 2: on the on the perimeter, and if you don't, the
- 4:20Speaker 2: way teams can key in on a player and try
- 4:24Speaker 2: to eliminate them. Although there's some that you know you
- 4:27Speaker 2: just can't erase, but I think it again, I think
- 4:31Speaker 2: the more weapons you have, the better. I think it
- 4:34Speaker 2: bringing in a first round talent wide receiver was a
- 4:37Speaker 2: priority in addition to Chris o'lave. I think you take
- 4:42Speaker 2: a lave off the board going forward in the future,
- 4:45Speaker 2: not in twenty six, but in twenty seven, and again
- 4:49Speaker 2: you're in that position where you're worried about having enough weapons.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So I don't think that the indication of drafting a
- 4:58Speaker 2: first first round wide receiver says they're looking to move
- 5:02Speaker 2: on from o lave. I think you're looking at it
- 5:04Speaker 2: going we need another field stretcher weapon that can compliment
- 5:11Speaker 2: one another. I think that the best offenses in the
- 5:13Speaker 2: NFL have at least two weapons on the perimeter that
- 5:17Speaker 2: make defenses scared, so I think it bodes well. I
- 5:21Speaker 2: think that the more weapons you have. I know there's
- 5:23Speaker 2: only one ball, there's a lot of mouths to feed,
- 5:26Speaker 2: but I'd rather that be the issue than we only
- 5:29Speaker 2: have one ball and we can only put it in
- 5:31Speaker 2: one place. I think that's been a problem in the
- 5:33Speaker 2: past and something that Kellen and company are looking to avoid.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Let's go to the trenches where we know, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: David Edwards was the high priced free agent at left guard,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you shore up that spot. It's interesting that they drafted
- 5:49Speaker 1: right in the fourth round out of Auburn. John, what's
- 5:53Speaker 1: your take there as far as the future at that
- 5:57Speaker 1: spot with Caesar Ruiz at the end of his contract
- 5:59Speaker 1: and you a young buck there coming behind him.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it only makes sense. I mean, obviously, Caesar,
- 6:06Speaker 2: when he plays well, you're going, man, he could be
- 6:09Speaker 2: a pro bowler. And then at times this past season
- 6:12Speaker 2: you're going, hoof, I wonder if that's a position that
- 6:14Speaker 2: you could upgrade. So this season will dictate a lot
- 6:20Speaker 2: of the direction moving forward. You can't have enough pieces
- 6:23Speaker 2: and when you can get a guard that you like
- 6:27Speaker 2: his upside and right having seen him play at Auburn
- 6:30Speaker 2: at least a few games, got a lot of power,
- 6:33Speaker 2: There's some rawness to his game, an edginess to his
- 6:38Speaker 2: game that you like in the fourth round and that
- 6:41Speaker 2: you know it projects as a potential starter. And at
- 6:44Speaker 2: that point in the draft, especially for guard, that's what
- 6:47Speaker 2: you're looking for. You're hoping that you don't need him
- 6:49Speaker 2: that first year, but he's got enough pieces in his
- 6:54Speaker 2: game that you think we can develop him and Hopefully
- 6:59Speaker 2: he's starter work the down the road, and if you
- 7:02Speaker 2: have to make a decision at the end of the
- 7:04Speaker 2: year with Caesar, it gives you another position of strength
- 7:07Speaker 2: to deal from, So hopefully he adds that depth. He's
- 7:12Speaker 2: the interior swing player coming into the season. Still got
- 7:16Speaker 2: raidings out there, so there should be some depth. And
- 7:21Speaker 2: you hope that the compliment of Edwards to the rest
- 7:24Speaker 2: of the group with those ones allows you to run
- 7:28Speaker 2: the ball efficiently and protect Chuck, which is your your
- 7:32Speaker 2: goal each season. So I like the moves that they made.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I think it only strengthens a group that probably needed
- 7:38Speaker 2: a little something based off this last season. And you've
- 7:42Speaker 2: got two good young tackles and a center that when
- 7:46Speaker 2: he's healthy, is you know, at the top of the league.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So I like their moves. I think it makes sense.
- 7:51Speaker 1: John, I got one more for you. You were there for
- 7:54Speaker 1: the transition when Sean Payton came in. I'm just curious
- 7:57Speaker 1: what it's like going into year two with a new
- 8:01Speaker 1: coach from obviously the Kellen Moore perspective. So much change
- 8:06Speaker 1: a year ago and now going into year two, how
- 8:10Speaker 1: what's it like? How's it different?
- 8:12Speaker 2: I think you understand the expectations each Each new head
- 8:15Speaker 2: coach comes in and is wanting an identity from his team,
- 8:21Speaker 2: and you're trying to figure it out. Year two. You
- 8:23Speaker 2: know what it is, you know how to fit into it,
- 8:26Speaker 2: and it's a matter of creating that identity in the
- 8:30Speaker 2: locker room. And I think one of the challenges that
- 8:34Speaker 2: DA faced was the expectation is we like what we've got,
- 8:38Speaker 2: don't screw it up, try to make it a little better.
- 8:40Speaker 2: And when Kellen came to town, it was what do
- 8:44Speaker 2: you need to make your system work? And I think
- 8:47Speaker 2: with that kind of freedom, it allows you to create
- 8:50Speaker 2: your own identity and it's one that I think the
- 8:54Speaker 2: entire organization is embraced, not only the players, but also
- 8:59Speaker 2: management of saying what is it that we're trying to
- 9:02Speaker 2: create here and what pieces do we need in place
- 9:04Speaker 2: to get there.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Former Saint John Stinscombe. Great perspective as always, John, We
- 9:10Speaker 1: appreciate the time, man, enjoy the rest of the off season.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Will be here before we know it.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I know it. I can't wait to actually watch some
- 9:15Speaker 2: real football.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Appreciate you having me on, no doubt, man, that's John Stinchcombe.
- 9:18Speaker 1: We appreciate it as always. It is after further review,
- 9:21Speaker 1: because you're hanging out with us here.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Uh.
- 9:23Speaker 1: John said something interesting there because I was asking him
- 9:25Speaker 1: about you're drafting, drafting Jordan Tyson when you already have
- 9:32Speaker 1: Chris A. Lave in the point of made you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: if you're Cincinnati, you wouldn't like they wouldn't use the
- 9:36Speaker 1: top ten pick on a receiver when they've got Jamar Chase.
- 9:39Speaker 1: He pointed out that they pay T. Higgins, which true,
- 9:42Speaker 1: T Higgins. So Jamar's average annual value contract is forty
- 9:47Speaker 1: zero point two million dollars and then Higgins is twenty
- 9:50Speaker 1: eight point seven. So once Jamar's second in the league,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and the value we actually if we look at the average,
- 9:56Speaker 1: let me just do it by average annual value, Jamar's
- 9:59Speaker 1: two and then T. Higgins is or five. It's JSN, Jamar,
- 10:06Speaker 1: Justin Ceedee, Lamb Metcalf, Garrett Wilson, Terry McLaurin, A. J. Brown,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I'm and Ross Saint Brown, Brandon ayuk N, T. Higginson.
- 10:13Speaker 1: When I look at it, though, when I'm scanning to
- 10:17Speaker 1: see if there's any other team that has two of
- 10:21Speaker 1: the top paid receivers, like JSN is now the highest
- 10:25Speaker 1: paid receiver in the NFL. The next highest Seahawk is
- 10:31Speaker 1: is Shaheed at seventeen million. Jefferson in Minnesota is the
- 10:38Speaker 1: third highest paid receiver. The next highest paid Viking is
- 10:47Speaker 1: is Juwan Jennings at eight million. Kind of go down
- 10:52Speaker 1: the list Ceedee Lamb, we get Ceedee Lamb and George
- 10:57Speaker 1: Pickens CD's at thirty four. Pickens is at twenty seven
- 10:59Speaker 1: to two. So there's another one Pittsburgh. There's dk Metcalf
- 11:04Speaker 1: at thirty three million. Next is Michael Pittman at at
- 11:10Speaker 1: seventeen to five. So it kind of feels like that's.
- 11:13Speaker 2: More the norm.
- 11:15Speaker 1: If you have like the one high paid receiver, then
- 11:17Speaker 1: you'd have the other that's in that seventeen to twenty
- 11:21Speaker 1: million range. And maybe the way the Saints are going
- 11:24Speaker 1: to look at it is a Lave is the the
- 11:29Speaker 1: thirty million dollar receiver, thirty plus million dollar receiver, and
- 11:32Speaker 1: Tyson's going to be the fifteen to twenty million dollar
- 11:34Speaker 1: receiver on a rookie deal, And by the time a
- 11:37Speaker 1: Lave's contract is up, Tyson will be due for an extension.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Maybe Tyson becomes the forty million dollars fifty million dollar receiver. However,
- 11:43Speaker 1: it is at that time, but I mean Garrett Wilson's
- 11:48Speaker 1: thirty two five. The next next Jets receiver on here
- 11:52Speaker 1: is well Omark Hooper, the rookie they just raft. So anyway,
- 12:04Speaker 1: interesting Uh, and Omar Cooper was a you know, was
- 12:08Speaker 1: a late a late first round pick. So in an event, uh,
- 12:12Speaker 1: we'll we'll continue to watch it and see what may
- 12:14Speaker 1: happen with Chris Olave's contract. That's something they clearly want
- 12:16Speaker 1: to sort out here, hopefully before u before training camp
- 12:19Speaker 1: begins or before the season starts.
