- 0:13Speaker 4: My guy, my brother, DJ Head West Coast. Welcome, sir,
- 0:17Speaker 4: I'm back. He's back. Yes. First of all, congratulations, had
- 0:22Speaker 4: I want to tell you to your face because I
- 0:24Speaker 4: know I texted you and I told you on the phone,
- 0:26Speaker 4: but I'm just super proud of you, dog. I love you,
- 0:28Speaker 4: and it's not I just love the moment you're having
- 0:31Speaker 4: right now.
- 0:32Speaker 1: It's it's amazing, you know what I'm saying.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Thank you, And you've, like this whole time, been pushing
- 0:38Speaker 4: the same line. You've never like swayed in terms of
- 0:40Speaker 4: like your integrity, and it's like you played the very
- 0:44Speaker 4: like patient game. And it's glad to I'm just glad
- 0:47Speaker 4: to see like everyone else recognizing like what you've been
- 0:50Speaker 4: doing for LA for so long, and like obviously this
- 0:53Speaker 4: moment with Kendrick and the pop hours, you.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Know, yeah, it was dope.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Couldn't have been anybody doper out there.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Shout out to a peace Lang, Shout out to the
- 1:01Speaker 2: Free Lunch Agency.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you. I appreciate that.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Shout out to the city and the homies too for
- 1:07Speaker 2: really showing up and making an event of success. A
- 1:10Speaker 2: lot of people had to put things aside and make sacrifices.
- 1:14Speaker 3: For sure.
- 1:15Speaker 4: It was dope. Yeah, and uh, you know for people
- 1:18Speaker 4: who don't know obviously you, I mean you came out
- 1:21Speaker 4: swinging just with everybody and their mom and I love
- 1:25Speaker 4: how problem ended your set because like, like, what is like,
- 1:27Speaker 4: you know, I mean, the crowd fucking it was amazing.
- 1:32Speaker 3: What was the process.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Of putting the artists who came out during your set together?
- 1:37Speaker 1: I wasn't. It wasn't. I can't take credit for that.
- 1:39Speaker 1: That was pg Lang. So you didn't pick the artists, Nah,
- 1:42Speaker 1: it was pg Lang.
- 1:43Speaker 2: They came to me with, hey, here's what we're here's
- 1:46Speaker 2: what because you gotta think this is like they don't
- 1:50Speaker 2: do anything that's just loose leaf, right, You've never seen
- 1:53Speaker 2: anything just random loose leaf.
- 1:55Speaker 3: And everything's very purpose Yes.
- 1:57Speaker 2: So they came to me and was like what. First
- 2:00Speaker 2: of all, shout out to Tim Henshaw and the Free
- 2:02Speaker 2: Lodgenon Agency. They were like Tim reached out and was like, hey,
- 2:05Speaker 2: you know dot want you to open the show. I
- 2:07Speaker 2: was like, are you fucking serious? Like yeah, like that's
- 2:11Speaker 2: how we're gonna kick the show off. You're going to
- 2:13Speaker 2: be the first thing. And he wants sees on the
- 2:14Speaker 2: show's fire.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Oh okay, what's the play And they're like, well, they
- 2:18Speaker 1: selected artists. Here are the artists that we're here. Here's
- 2:21Speaker 1: the list that.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We're thinking of, and we just want you to curate
- 2:25Speaker 2: this in a way that makes sense from a DJ's perspective.
- 2:28Speaker 4: And I'm like, okay, bet.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And two artists were added last minute, which was ol
- 2:33Speaker 2: Osama and RJ And those are super last minute. But
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, I can't take credit for that, Like if
- 2:40Speaker 2: it was up to me, I would it would be
- 2:42Speaker 2: hell of people that was I mean, Vince Staples was going,
- 2:44Speaker 2: Grido was going.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Joe wasn't there, Like it was a bunch of people.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Yeah, Joe Moses, I felt like, was the one that
- 2:49Speaker 4: Joe and Grido in terms of like having records that
- 2:53Speaker 4: you'd be like wanting to see the crowd like.
- 2:56Speaker 2: So my plan was, again if everybody, if you were
- 2:59Speaker 2: watching the st or you were there, I was there. Yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 2: But if you were watching the stream, you notice like, okay,
- 3:04Speaker 2: I'm supposed to going at four. And the thing about
- 3:05Speaker 2: logistics is we couldn't even fit everybody that we that
- 3:09Speaker 2: everybody that they picked, we couldn't even fit within the show.
- 3:13Speaker 2: So I had to make executive decisions and shout out
- 3:15Speaker 2: to Perico and Kaylin, like Pirico's his own artist, but
- 3:19Speaker 2: he came out with I had him do keep right
- 3:21Speaker 2: with it with Kaylin, and then I had a z
- 3:23Speaker 2: Chik and Roochie do the song together. It's their biggest
- 3:25Speaker 2: songs called Lighted Up, So I had them do a
- 3:27Speaker 2: song together and I just kind of just made the call,
- 3:29Speaker 2: like hey bro, Phoenix Flexen ended up being there.
- 3:33Speaker 1: He was a rehearsal to.
- 3:35Speaker 4: I was thinking that they were going to transition from
- 3:38Speaker 4: Geeka Leak to a shoreline song no time.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, And so you know, shout out to OJZ and
- 3:43Speaker 2: Phoenix and Rory and the teen for like being understanding.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But it was like you got to understand, this is
- 3:48Speaker 2: not a concert that's contained in the forum.
- 3:50Speaker 1: This is being streamed.
- 3:52Speaker 3: It's a show in a production.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's a full TV show that requires logistics and timing,
- 3:57Speaker 2: Like we had to time our sets out. Mustard had
- 4:00Speaker 2: turn in his list of which songs he was going
- 4:02Speaker 2: to play in the mix in between artists before artists,
- 4:05Speaker 2: And so at four o'clock when I was supposed to start,
- 4:08Speaker 2: we were running behind because for whatever reason, production was
- 4:11Speaker 2: running behind. I couldn't even play the records I was
- 4:14Speaker 2: gonna play as a DJ set before I brought Ramble.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Out right, So you were supposed to hop on and
- 4:18Speaker 4: just warm up the crowds as a DJ. I was
- 4:21Speaker 4: d kind of like what Mustard did.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Correct, I was gonna DJ, but we were half an
- 4:24Speaker 2: hour already into the show. It's like, we gotta go,
- 4:27Speaker 2: so again. I would like to have everybody on.
- 4:30Speaker 4: The fucking show, Little Veda, you know, little little Vada.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I wanted to have lived on it. I wanted to
- 4:34Speaker 2: have like you, everyone who knows me knows what I'm wan.
- 4:37Speaker 2: For sure, I would have everybody on the show. Sure,
- 4:40Speaker 2: Logistically it just doesn't make sense. It doesn't we don't
- 4:42Speaker 2: have time for that whatever. So I just may do
- 4:44Speaker 2: it what I was given and I didn't need.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I had to.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I had to sacrifice my DJ set and it just
- 4:50Speaker 2: is what it is, like. I didn't even I wrote
- 4:52Speaker 2: a monologue. I wrote a monologue that I was gonna that.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I was gonna say, then I had after the monologue,
- 4:59Speaker 2: I had a DJ set, and then I was gonna
- 5:00Speaker 2: bring Ramble out. I just came out, said a little
- 5:03Speaker 2: quick sun and brought Rumble out.
- 5:04Speaker 4: And that was Rymble's first performance ever. Yeah, which is
- 5:07Speaker 4: I mean shot to Rymble. Yeah, I mean shot the
- 5:12Speaker 4: Sampizro kicking it off.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yeah. It was a big and you know what, And
- 5:15Speaker 1: that was changed in rehearsal as.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Well, the song he did or him opening.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Him opening, I was gonna have so again we're DJ,
- 5:24Speaker 2: so you understand. I was putting the set together. So
- 5:27Speaker 2: the idea was, hey, there's three names on the marquee.
- 5:29Speaker 2: It's you, Mustard Dot and as you're putting the set together,
- 5:33Speaker 2: that's going to do a performance. You and Mustard have
- 5:35Speaker 2: DJ sets, but live performances of the of the records.
- 5:39Speaker 2: So I'm putting the set together like I'm DJing in
- 5:41Speaker 2: the mix that way, and people are coming out as
- 5:43Speaker 2: I'm playing the records.
- 5:45Speaker 4: It felt like it was building up to like to me,
- 5:48Speaker 4: like obviously like like what and RJ at towards the end,
- 5:51Speaker 4: because like n og Z towards the end, it's like
- 5:53Speaker 4: it just was very it made sense.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It wasn't.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It wasn't even like oh, this person's new or because
- 5:58Speaker 2: I was my initial set and I have I ain't
- 6:00Speaker 2: think I research this, but.
- 6:02Speaker 1: My initial idea.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I wasn't have Wally open mm because he was gonna
- 6:06Speaker 2: come out and do a cappella and like how we
- 6:08Speaker 2: did the set, I was gonna have Wyley the sense
- 6:10Speaker 2: they come out and do all through the flow and
- 6:12Speaker 2: it was gonna be a cappella just to set the
- 6:14Speaker 2: tone and then the beat comes in and then I
- 6:16Speaker 2: was gonna have like a roller coaster like Okay, we're
- 6:18Speaker 2: familiar with this kind of unfamiliar and then go back up.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Then then as we were going through it, it didn't feel
- 6:24Speaker 2: right in rehearsal and shout out to PG Lane the
- 6:26Speaker 2: homies over there, like they just let me make calls
- 6:28Speaker 2: and I was like, nah, I'm gonna change the whole
- 6:30Speaker 2: set around. Let me let me work on it whatever,
- 6:32Speaker 2: and they let me. They let me do my thing.
- 6:35Speaker 4: What was the how like you said that Zoe and
- 6:38Speaker 4: RJ got added super late, was that like your call
- 6:41Speaker 4: or their call or.
- 6:42Speaker 2: It was just Don just got the call like hey
- 6:44Speaker 2: we need to hey, we need we want to add RJ.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Can you call them? I'm like, yeah, it was seven
- 6:49Speaker 1: seven am the day up, oh ship.
- 6:51Speaker 4: It was just like that.
- 6:51Speaker 2: It just honestly just went hella fast. And I think
- 6:58Speaker 2: for the most part, I think, you know, they did
- 7:00Speaker 2: a good job.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 7:02Speaker 3: For sure, it was great.
- 7:03Speaker 4: And then do you know the background because I remember
- 7:06Speaker 4: seeing like a paper of the set list for Mustard
- 7:09Speaker 4: and Tyler wasn't on it.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I didn't know Tyler was gonna be there because I
- 7:13Speaker 2: didn't I didn't know Tyler was gonna be there until
- 7:15Speaker 2: he was walking. He literally walked past me backstage, like
- 7:17Speaker 2: we were in the hallway. I was right outside of
- 7:19Speaker 2: a Kendrick's dressing room. So because I was waiting, Top
- 7:23Speaker 2: had went in to go talk to him. I was
- 7:24Speaker 2: waiting to go in and talk to him, and so
- 7:27Speaker 2: Tyler walks in the door. We shake hands and he
- 7:30Speaker 2: was like and even Sallast was like, that's Tyler the Creator.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I'm like, I know he was gonna be here, but
- 7:35Speaker 2: it was that happening right in that spot where we
- 7:37Speaker 2: were standing, Like Lebron walked by and then fucking I
- 7:41Speaker 2: don't know whoever I'm like the Weekend Walking by Rick
- 7:44Speaker 2: Ross was there and I'm like, yo, what are these
- 7:46Speaker 2: people doing here?
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:48Speaker 4: They weren't.
- 7:48Speaker 1: They're not on the set list, right, you know what
- 7:51Speaker 1: I'm saying.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Like, not that I didn't see, I didn't see dot
- 7:53Speaker 2: set list, but me and Mustard had to collaborate on
- 7:56Speaker 2: our sets so we can overlap right right right. So
- 8:00Speaker 2: I didn't know about none of that shit. I didn't
- 8:02Speaker 2: even know Tyler was performing. I had no idea.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah that was that was out of the whole night that.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I'm just backstage and I heard they werena loose, that
- 8:08Speaker 2: Tyler crowd.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Pop was it was outside of Kendrick. I was just
- 8:11Speaker 4: the Tyler coming out, and I don't think anyone expected
- 8:13Speaker 4: any Nah.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I didn't know that shit. I didn't even know what
- 8:16Speaker 1: that was gonna do.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I gotta ask you this. I was surprised that Lebron
- 8:20Speaker 4: didn't make his way on stage, because it feels like
- 8:22Speaker 4: the Lebron thing to do. Did he do you know
- 8:25Speaker 4: if he tried to get on stage?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Nah, he didn't. Okay, he was chilling where he was at.
- 8:28Speaker 4: He was just chilling.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Because there was this little, this.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Little area where we were all hanging out whatever, like
- 8:33Speaker 2: side stage, and he was just over there with his
- 8:35Speaker 2: I think with his family or something.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Chilling.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Yeah, we're talking about things being like super intentional and like,
- 8:40Speaker 4: you know, there were people who were there who could
- 8:43Speaker 4: have came out and did stuff, but they weren't from LA. Yeah,
- 8:47Speaker 4: and everybody who came out performed. The only thing that
- 8:51Speaker 4: was in LA that happened was E forty narrating the show.
- 8:55Speaker 4: But you gotta have you gotta have you gotta have that. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 4: but I mean that was per It's full right, Like
- 9:01Speaker 4: nobody who touched that stage wasn't.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I believe it was intentional. I never even asked about it, right,
- 9:06Speaker 2: I wasn't. I didn't approach it like, yeah, this is
- 9:08Speaker 2: my ship. Yeah, they gave me, Hey, this is what
- 9:10Speaker 2: we need you to do. I just executed my job.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I didn't question anybody. I didn't do anything. It was like,
- 9:15Speaker 2: because it's not about me, right, And I think that
- 9:17Speaker 2: a lot of people can attest to that. Even the
- 9:19Speaker 2: way I was conducting the sessions, it was like, it's
- 9:21Speaker 2: not about me, bro, it's not about you. It's about
- 9:23Speaker 2: Dot and this, and we need to make this look dope. Collectively,
- 9:27Speaker 2: so I didn't even approach it from like, oh, here's
- 9:29Speaker 2: my input on this or this is what I think.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I just was worried about getting the task done. I didn't.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it's crazy too, because like being there, like just
- 9:37Speaker 4: from like a fancy I was. I actually watched the show.
- 9:40Speaker 4: I mean obviously my son was there, but Letty was
- 9:41Speaker 4: sitting next to me with Jorge, and uh it was
- 9:44Speaker 4: it just felt like it felt like one of them
- 9:47Speaker 4: moments they're like, man, I'm gonna remember the rest of
- 9:49Speaker 4: my life. I was sitting right here.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Fat me too.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Like it when it kicked off, like when Kendrick came
- 9:54Speaker 4: out doing Euphoria, which is my favorite song out of
- 9:56Speaker 4: all the songs that have dropped throughout this whole thing,
- 9:58Speaker 4: I lost my fucking mind. But like you standing there,
- 10:01Speaker 4: did you kind of feel the like gravity of like this.
- 10:04Speaker 1: You did well?
- 10:06Speaker 4: By the way, you should have gotten a better position
- 10:08Speaker 4: on that photo because you're getting cropped out on all
- 10:10Speaker 4: here because you're right on the edge.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I'm not tripping about that, you know how I am.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Someone made a T shirt and like you could see
- 10:17Speaker 4: half of you on there. I'm not sure, No, I
- 10:19Speaker 4: know you're not I know you're not.
- 10:20Speaker 2: But so before I went on stage, because we had
- 10:25Speaker 2: our cues, we worked out our cues, and E forty
- 10:28Speaker 2: starts playing, and I'm just standing there on st I'm like, okay,
- 10:32Speaker 2: I'm trying to remember some of my monologue, right, so
- 10:35Speaker 2: you can get some shit off, So I can get
- 10:36Speaker 2: some shit off, yeah, because other than I would have
- 10:40Speaker 2: just read the whole thing and you know, did the
- 10:41Speaker 2: whole teleprint or whatever it was.
- 10:43Speaker 1: But I was trying to get my shit there.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I was trying to remember certain things that I did
- 10:46Speaker 2: want to make sure I said, and then at that point,
- 10:50Speaker 2: you just going off feeling. So I just went up there,
- 10:52Speaker 2: and at first I still behind the turntables, and I
- 10:55Speaker 2: was just like, all right, let me just get right
- 10:56Speaker 2: to it and not hold people up. Then I'm like, nah,
- 11:00Speaker 2: let me, let me go ahead and take the moment
- 11:02Speaker 2: and just you know, work the crowd or whatever and
- 11:04Speaker 2: let people see me and try to try to absorb
- 11:06Speaker 2: some of that energy. But I was, to be honest
- 11:10Speaker 2: with you, I wasn't thinking about it. If you think
- 11:12Speaker 2: about it, you're gonna you will fucking psych yourself out.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And start you'll lose your ship for sure.
- 11:16Speaker 2: So I was even backstage when we were lining I
- 11:18Speaker 2: was lining the homies up and telling her I couldn't
- 11:21Speaker 2: because people were like.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yo, this is fucking crazy, this is history.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Like you understand, I can't get in that because if
- 11:27Speaker 2: I get into that then I'll fuck up miss a
- 11:30Speaker 2: Cue or miss you know what I mean.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Yeah, you just got to play the game, in the
- 11:33Speaker 4: game to do the work. Yeah it worked out, man,
- 11:35Speaker 4: it was. It was wonderful. I got to ask you
- 11:39Speaker 4: man like you. You also just launched the new radio
- 11:41Speaker 4: show on Serious with Gina, effective.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Immediately immediately three weeks in two weeks in third show
- 11:49Speaker 1: just haired.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, how's that been?
- 11:52Speaker 4: Life changing? Like it's like, you know, obviously, Gina has
- 11:55Speaker 4: been doing her thing, putting in work for years behind
- 11:57Speaker 4: the scenes, in front of the camera, whole fashions, et cetera,
- 12:01Speaker 4: all the way back to when she was doing stuff
- 12:03Speaker 4: with Adam. So what was it like, give me the
- 12:07Speaker 4: background of like when the idea started with her to
- 12:11Speaker 4: do this show?
- 12:12Speaker 2: So me, So honestly, we've been working with Gina with
- 12:15Speaker 2: four years now something like that for something like that,
- 12:18Speaker 2: and she's been on our team and you know, like
- 12:21Speaker 2: I mentor her and try to make sure like everything's straight.
- 12:24Speaker 2: But then one day we when I left iHeart and
- 12:29Speaker 2: she ended up leaving No Jumper.
- 12:31Speaker 1: We both had an idea. What we were trying to figure.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Out, like what the idea for the show is, Like,
- 12:35Speaker 2: what's the idea for the show, what's the premise of it.
- 12:37Speaker 2: So we were trying to come up with names and
- 12:39Speaker 2: ideas and we were shooting back and forth it and
- 12:41Speaker 2: we were on the phone with Salace one day and
- 12:44Speaker 2: I said, and I forgot if she said it or
- 12:46Speaker 2: I said, it was like, yeah, we want to feel
- 12:47Speaker 2: something like when you get terminated, it's like something effective immediately,
- 12:52Speaker 2: And Sialace just goes like, wait, what would you say,
- 12:54Speaker 2: Like something like, because we're trying to play on the
- 12:56Speaker 2: fact of our employment status, when you get them letters right,
- 13:00Speaker 2: effective immediately you are no longer with the company, blah
- 13:02Speaker 2: blah blah.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And so so I was like, what would you say.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, something like that, and he.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Was like, that's it, effective media, It's like effective immediately,
- 13:10Speaker 2: that's it. I'm like yeah, And then we just kind
- 13:13Speaker 2: of ran from it. And then I went shout out
- 13:15Speaker 2: to j One and you know, Ron Mills and Sway
- 13:17Speaker 2: Sway really because I called Sway like fourth quarter last
- 13:21Speaker 2: year and I was like, Yo, I want to do
- 13:23Speaker 2: the syndicated thing, blah blah blah. He put the he
- 13:26Speaker 2: put me in touch with the higher ups over there,
- 13:29Speaker 2: and they ended up giving me what I wanted, Like
- 13:31Speaker 2: we did a non exclusive deal. So I'm going to
- 13:33Speaker 2: syndicate not only not only on serious but on terrestrial
- 13:38Speaker 2: FM radio. That's got some announcements coming out in the
- 13:40Speaker 2: next couple of weeks. So yeah, that really is how
- 13:45Speaker 2: it started. But where I'll see it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Going is bigger than radio or podcasts because obviously you
- 13:52Speaker 1: and Chuck started together doing homegrown radio.
- 13:54Speaker 4: So ye with the new show, where does that leave
- 13:58Speaker 4: the homegrown radio?
- 14:00Speaker 2: So homegrown homegrown, We're still doing our thing. I look
- 14:02Speaker 2: at Homegrown more like the rap radar shit okay, like
- 14:05Speaker 2: when beat Out and Elliott was doing ay thing, so
- 14:07Speaker 2: that'll be more sophisticated. We actually are, we actually are
- 14:11Speaker 2: doing We have one rhapsody dropping soon.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Some more like the long form Yeah, effective effective immediately
- 14:21Speaker 5: is like the radio show daily talk, topics, news, fun whatever,
- 14:27Speaker 5: also celebrity interviews, stuff like that.
- 14:29Speaker 2: But the homegrown pod is more like long form deeper conversations.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I was gonna say, like, that's the one thing
- 14:38Speaker 4: about radio nowadays is just like, I mean, shit, man,
- 14:44Speaker 4: where do you feel. I mean, look, you've been out
- 14:45Speaker 4: of radio what two years? How do you feel going
- 14:50Speaker 4: back into it? Yeah, because obviously, you know, I don't
- 14:54Speaker 4: want to get in the background of why things didn't
- 14:55Speaker 4: work out at iHeart for you. But it was an
- 14:58Speaker 4: interesting situation in which I remember we went.
- 15:01Speaker 3: To a concert that was sponsored by Amazon Music.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Once it's Kendrick Lamar, it was, it was Kendrick Lamar.
- 15:07Speaker 4: It was yeah, and there was Amazon Music.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah, an iHeart sweet. Yeah, We're like, oh, that's interesting.
- 15:16Speaker 4: But with that being said, getting back into it, because
- 15:22Speaker 4: you know, at the end of the day, like radio
- 15:23Speaker 4: is not what it used to be. But it's also
- 15:26Speaker 4: if you do it, if you do it right, if
- 15:28Speaker 4: you know what you're doing, if you you know, aren't
- 15:30Speaker 4: just mailing it in, Like a lot of these personalities
- 15:33Speaker 4: are across the country, there is a place for it
- 15:36Speaker 4: to still matter.
- 15:36Speaker 3: It does matter, Yeah, No, for sure.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I think it's another place where I mean, I think
- 15:41Speaker 2: all free medium is going to be around forever. TV radio,
- 15:44Speaker 2: same shit free It's all going to exist because it's
- 15:48Speaker 2: a free medium and people don't have to pay for
- 15:50Speaker 2: to consume it. But I think what radio is going
- 15:54Speaker 2: is bigger shows, less personalities. I don't necessarily see like
- 16:00Speaker 2: a lot of smaller shows existing anymore.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I don't think that people.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Like people still care about having a compersonal connection to
- 16:08Speaker 2: the station and the radio.
- 16:10Speaker 1: They don't care about live and local. They just want
- 16:12Speaker 1: they just want good content.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and they want to hear their Honestly, they want
- 16:16Speaker 4: to hear their favorite song in the morning.
- 16:17Speaker 1: That's all they care about.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Like, because even when you talk about like hip hop
- 16:21Speaker 2: in the sense that people like, oh we want that
- 16:22Speaker 2: pewre shit, people don't give a fuck.
- 16:24Speaker 1: They want jammin as songs.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Yeah. They just want to hear what they want to hear.
- 16:27Speaker 4: That's it. It is what it is like. That's why
- 16:29Speaker 4: there's research and call out and all that shit. Like
- 16:31Speaker 4: you know, And I think two people got to understand that,
- 16:33Speaker 4: like the what we call p ones in radio, which
- 16:36Speaker 4: are like the die hard show up to the remote.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Back in the day you'd have a bumper sticker on
- 16:42Speaker 4: your car. Those people who are like p ones, they
- 16:46Speaker 4: are not like at the end of the day. Those
- 16:49Speaker 4: are for the most part, you want to have, not
- 16:52Speaker 4: to get into the fucking geekiness radio talk, but you
- 16:55Speaker 4: want a p one to try to get a meter. Right.
- 16:57Speaker 4: If you're a radio station and a pe one of
- 17:00Speaker 4: yours gets a meter, which is how they get ratings
- 17:02Speaker 4: they're calculating them through PPM, then you're lit because they're
- 17:06Speaker 4: gonna listen all fucking day. But usually those people who
- 17:08Speaker 4: carry the meters, who determine the ratings, or who are
- 17:11Speaker 4: p ones, they're not. They don't care about the double
- 17:15Speaker 4: XL Freshman cover that just drops. No, they don't care.
- 17:18Speaker 2: About like they don't care that, they don't care that
- 17:21Speaker 2: Vince Staples wasn't on stage at the pop up.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Nah, They're just like excited for the Kendrick moment and
- 17:27Speaker 4: and Drake and and and and That's what's It's almost
- 17:29Speaker 4: like this Kendrick and Drake thing pushed about this is
- 17:33Speaker 4: about as good as it's gonna get in terms of
- 17:35Speaker 4: real hip hop and bars and like, you know, the
- 17:39Speaker 4: art form being like so commercially like working, like you
- 17:44Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. Like these records are like Euphouria
- 17:46Speaker 4: is a six minute record getting played in power rotation
- 17:50Speaker 4: and it's not really a hook on it.
- 17:51Speaker 3: There's not a hook anyway.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Repeat, But I hate the way that you yeah, I
- 17:55Speaker 4: mean that's I mean, but still but it's like like
- 17:57Speaker 4: that's where we.
- 17:58Speaker 1: All tried, yeah, saying like that's there, you know, there's
- 18:01Speaker 1: a little something for you.
- 18:02Speaker 4: But it's it's just you know, I think people got
- 18:04Speaker 4: to understand that, Like when we do radio, it's different
- 18:07Speaker 4: than when we do the YouTube stuff or when you
- 18:09Speaker 4: do homegrown radio or when you do your shit, because
- 18:12Speaker 4: it's like, bro, the radio shit is it's it's it's
- 18:14Speaker 4: I don't want to use microL wave, but it kind
- 18:16Speaker 4: of is like it's surface level listening.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just background that people put it on at work.
- 18:21Speaker 4: And the people who are like die hard into the
- 18:23Speaker 4: station for the most part, they're usually like mid thirties,
- 18:27Speaker 4: like early forties, and they love their station that they
- 18:31Speaker 4: grew up listening to and they don't understand how to
- 18:33Speaker 4: get they don't want to get Spotify because you know
- 18:35Speaker 4: what I mean. Like, so I think it's just a
- 18:37Speaker 4: it's a different thing. Like when we do our radio show,
- 18:39Speaker 4: me and James, it's like it's way different. The ship
- 18:43Speaker 4: we run through the filter, like should we talk about this? Like,
- 18:47Speaker 4: I don't know if they don't care about the you know,
- 18:50Speaker 4: a thirty four year old females working two jobs and
- 18:53Speaker 4: got four kids gives a fuck.
- 18:55Speaker 2: About it, cares about that stuff. So it's hard. I mean,
- 18:58Speaker 2: it's not hard as long as you know what you're doing.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Pick good content, pick good spots. You made good radio on.
- 19:03Speaker 4: What do you think about the Freshman cover that just dropped?
- 19:06Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 19:07Speaker 4: It said not like us with absolutely zero LA artists.
- 19:11Speaker 1: That's why I don't care.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the biggest commercial because I've tried to
- 19:17Speaker 4: see it through the I'm running a New York magazine
- 19:20Speaker 4: because that's what I look at Double ex cell As,
- 19:22Speaker 4: it's Vanessa and them are all in New York. Right
- 19:26Speaker 4: to me, the biggest snub would have been three with
- 19:27Speaker 4: old Baby in LA.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Well.
- 19:28Speaker 2: See the thing is, and I don't care necessarily about
- 19:31Speaker 2: the frist. I stop caring about a lot of that shit. Right,
- 19:33Speaker 2: here's a barometer on what DJ head cares about. If
- 19:35Speaker 2: you see DJ Head involved in it, then he cares.
- 19:38Speaker 2: We got snubbed in Grammys over and over again. I
- 19:40Speaker 2: want to join the Grammy Board. My people in the community.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I want to join the Boys and Girls Club. I
- 19:45Speaker 2: joined radio station because I care about radio, like our YouTube,
- 19:48Speaker 2: podcast and content. I care about those things. If you
- 19:51Speaker 2: don't see me involved in it, I really don't give
- 19:53Speaker 2: a fuck. And the thing is the double XL Freshman
- 19:56Speaker 2: cover is just an example of institutions not being cold
- 20:00Speaker 2: truly tapped in, which that's not far that's not a
- 20:02Speaker 2: far fetched idea. Most of these platforms and companies are
- 20:06Speaker 2: not tapped in. They're not, I want to say, tapped in.
- 20:09Speaker 2: They're not culturally aware of certain things and moments that
- 20:13Speaker 2: actually matter.
- 20:13Speaker 1: To the culture.
- 20:14Speaker 2: If it's supposed to gauge cultural impact and so like
- 20:18Speaker 2: when you have a three one oh baby who probably
- 20:20Speaker 2: should have who did probably belong on the cover for sure,
- 20:23Speaker 2: right then you take something like not like us and
- 20:26Speaker 2: you put that and you make that the subheading for it.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Not like us meant not like us in LA.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Or to me, there's people in New York who just like, oh,
- 20:38Speaker 1: let's use this, Yeah, this is a hot this is cool.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Yeah, because they don't understand the cultural relevance or impact
- 20:44Speaker 2: of what this thing is. And that has been my
- 20:46Speaker 2: problem throughout the last two three months that everything's been
- 20:48Speaker 2: going down, is you have to be culturally aware so
- 20:52Speaker 2: you don't culturally play yourself. And that's that was my
- 20:55Speaker 2: thing with the whole battle back and forth, for even
- 20:58Speaker 2: with the Doubles, like a lot of things have cultural
- 21:01Speaker 2: nuance that people don't understand, and if you don't understand that, you.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Should just be like, hey, I don't get this, I
- 21:05Speaker 1: don't get it. Hey, you know what I mean? I
- 21:08Speaker 1: remember you during was it twenty twenty twenty twenty when
- 21:11Speaker 1: everything was going down with George Floyd? You would call me,
- 21:14Speaker 1: you would call Sautas, Hey, bro, I want to do
- 21:16Speaker 1: something like how can I help? Like what I got to?
- 21:18Speaker 1: What can I do?
- 21:20Speaker 2: Those things matter because now it's like, Okay, if I
- 21:22Speaker 2: don't know, let me tap a motherfucker in who knows?
- 21:25Speaker 1: How can I be of service? How can I help this?
- 21:28Speaker 2: This cover shows to me same thing everything else been
- 21:32Speaker 2: showing me. Whether it's or shows, whether it's whatever, it's
- 21:35Speaker 2: just you don't have people in the room who are
- 21:37Speaker 2: either one confident boisterous enough, or who don't even have
- 21:40Speaker 2: the platform to speak up and say, hey, we probably
- 21:43Speaker 2: shouldn't do that, you know, I mean, you know what
- 21:45Speaker 2: we shouldn't do.
- 21:46Speaker 1: We shouldn't be.
- 21:47Speaker 2: A half white, half black person and make reference to
- 21:50Speaker 2: somebody who's culturally black and culturally potent, rich in culture, and.
- 21:55Speaker 1: May say, hey, you're rapping like slaves. Who's in the
- 21:58Speaker 1: room for that? Yeah, So I look at all those things.
- 22:01Speaker 1: It's the same thing. It's not it's not to slight
- 22:04Speaker 1: anybody or to diss anybody. It's just no one's in
- 22:06Speaker 1: the room and has the authority or the player or
- 22:10Speaker 1: the nuts to snu because sometimes people don't want input
- 22:13Speaker 1: and so it doesn't then have to be nuts. It
- 22:15Speaker 1: could be you don't empower this person enough to challenge
- 22:18Speaker 1: you on this, right.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Yeah, that's funny. That's one of the things I tweeted.
- 22:22Speaker 4: I was like, imagine getting discs for having your music
- 22:24Speaker 4: having substance.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Like what what are we doing? Like, No, that's real.
- 22:29Speaker 4: I just thought, you know, it's funny because I posted
- 22:31Speaker 4: the cover and I didn't even read it, not like
- 22:33Speaker 4: us part I just put I didn't even see that.
- 22:37Speaker 4: So no, I just posted it because you know, I
- 22:40Speaker 4: got you know, OT's my boy and I'm happy for him. Man,
- 22:43Speaker 4: big ext the plug and skill of baby like Dude
- 22:45Speaker 4: there's the guys on there that really deserve to be
- 22:47Speaker 4: on there, But like I was just like, there's nobody
- 22:49Speaker 4: from LA, like the two names that you know. It
- 22:51Speaker 4: was three one oh and zero and it was like,
- 22:53Speaker 4: I know for a fact, I looked up on Spotify
- 22:55Speaker 4: just to see monthly listeners and I was like I always
- 22:58Speaker 4: got more monthly listeners and like half this cover, Like.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Hey bro, my thing is again I always say this,
- 23:07Speaker 2: and actually, you know, I'm not even gonna say that.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I'm I'm not gonna rehash that point. I'll say this,
- 23:14Speaker 2: what we heard is niggas don't like the West Coast,
- 23:17Speaker 2: and then that's why with it, I'll push the line
- 23:19Speaker 2: with it.
- 23:21Speaker 3: That's yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I feel like, you know what, dude, It's crazy because
- 23:25Speaker 4: I always me and you would always have these conversations
- 23:27Speaker 4: about like the bias that's in the industry.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Which is why I'm over overtently biased, right.
- 23:35Speaker 4: But it's funny because I used to always just be like,
- 23:38Speaker 4: I don't know, man, like you might be wrong. But
- 23:43Speaker 4: when I see like the way these guys just hate
- 23:49Speaker 4: what's happening right now for no good reason other than
- 23:54Speaker 4: the kids from LA, it feels like at least like
- 23:57Speaker 4: the mall thing is super strange to me. Me like, just
- 24:01Speaker 4: like it's just You're like, it's true. Motherfuckers really just
- 24:06Speaker 4: don't fuck with La.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And it's not even in LA. They don't fuck with
- 24:10Speaker 1: the Bay either, the whole West coast. They don't fuck
- 24:12Speaker 1: with Seattle. They don't fuck with like Arizona, they don't
- 24:16Speaker 1: fuck with Nevada nothing. It's they don't fuck with Albuquerque.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I know a fire ass artist from Albuquerque, don't I
- 24:22Speaker 2: don't I know his song, I don't know his name,
- 24:24Speaker 2: but he's fired from Albuquerque.
- 24:25Speaker 4: New Mexico's crazy.
- 24:27Speaker 2: The thing is, Bro, they just don't fuck with us,
- 24:30Speaker 2: and that's okay, but at least say I don't fuck
- 24:33Speaker 2: with you. That's why I respect people who are overtly racist,
- 24:37Speaker 2: right because it's like.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Hey, at least I know where I stand with you.
- 24:40Speaker 4: That's it.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Don't be secretly racist.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Don't be secretly racist, because that's Joe check.
- 24:45Speaker 3: That's where systematic racism kicks it.
- 24:47Speaker 2: That's where That's why I was That's why I was
- 24:49Speaker 2: challenging during the during the back and forth, I'm like, bro,
- 24:51Speaker 2: don't secretly why don't secretly give bootleg k of the record,
- 24:55Speaker 2: and the record doesn't exist nowhere else.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Put the record out right, you.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Know what I mean? Like, let's let me let the
- 25:01Speaker 1: world know how you feel.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Yeah, plant your flag officially. Yeah, it's definitely interesting. When
- 25:07Speaker 4: when because I know you and I were talking a
- 25:09Speaker 4: bit about during the I talked to you the Friday
- 25:13Speaker 4: night that it was probably my favorite night as a
- 25:18Speaker 4: hip hop fan of my entire life, and that.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Was that's because you're messy.
- 25:24Speaker 4: I woke up in the morning and the Compton record
- 25:29Speaker 4: had dropped, which was the final Hey man, are you sure?
- 25:35Speaker 4: Are you sure? Later on that night, I'm driving to
- 25:38Speaker 4: Arizona with my sister and my kid in the back seat,
- 25:41Speaker 4: and then The Family Matters comes out, and I remember
- 25:44Speaker 4: I listened to it and I think I called you
- 25:49Speaker 4: before meet the Grahams came out, and I was like, Oh.
- 25:53Speaker 3: He ain't got ship.
- 25:54Speaker 4: He's just making shit up, Like because anybody who knows
- 25:59Speaker 4: Dave and Kendrick and their dynamic, You're like, oh, you're
- 26:01Speaker 4: really just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks.
- 26:05Speaker 4: And then like twenty minutes later, no, fifteen minutes, I'm
- 26:09Speaker 4: refreshing my shit. What the fuck? When I first heard
- 26:14Speaker 4: Meat the Grams Dog, I was screaming. I was like,
- 26:16Speaker 4: I couldn't even believe it.
- 26:18Speaker 1: It was like.
- 26:20Speaker 3: And like it.
- 26:21Speaker 4: It could have ended right there with no Not Like Us,
- 26:24Speaker 4: and it would have just been like you suck the
- 26:27Speaker 4: life out of this dude, man. But then was it Saturday.
- 26:32Speaker 4: The next day Not Like Us comes out and it's
- 26:36Speaker 4: a hit record, and I'm just like, I just broke
- 26:40Speaker 4: because you know, I've been sending tweets because you know,
- 26:43Speaker 4: I'm very I've been extremely.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Critical with Drake for years.
- 26:46Speaker 4: I'm a big push of Tea guy, huge Kendrick guy,
- 26:50Speaker 4: and so I remember I've been I've been I've been
- 26:52Speaker 4: tweeting like this, ain't this, ain't this, ain't what like
- 26:55Speaker 4: After like that came out, This ain't this, ain't this,
- 26:59Speaker 4: ain't meet me. I kept tweeting, Hey, I was tweeting
- 27:04Speaker 4: shit without knowing anything. I was just tweeting boogeyman loading
- 27:08Speaker 4: like just ship. I was just because I know, like
- 27:11Speaker 4: this shit is different, and so when not Like That
- 27:13Speaker 4: came out, I just felt like everybody could suck my dick, man,
- 27:17Speaker 4: I told y'all. And by the way, man, all you
- 27:19Speaker 4: fucking Drake beehive, weirdo ass bodass accounts. I did not
- 27:24Speaker 4: know that there were grown men whose whole entire life
- 27:31Speaker 4: revolved around leaving comments on Twitter. You fucking in sell fucks,
- 27:38Speaker 4: stop playing Fortnite and beating your dick to fucking the
- 27:41Speaker 4: motto the model is a fire record, great record. Shout
- 27:47Speaker 4: out to might be the most culturally tapped in song
- 27:49Speaker 4: he's ever done.
- 27:50Speaker 1: That's not true, shout out to the bay culturally tapped in.
- 27:53Speaker 4: And he went to the bay and mac Dre's mom
- 27:55Speaker 4: in the video.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, you mean, like from all okaygo what you're saying.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Maybe I don't know.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Anyway, but I didn't know.
- 28:03Speaker 4: But but I'm sure you've been dealing with these same comments.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I don't even know.
- 28:08Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Oh no, I've been taking screenshots. I make a scrap
- 28:11Speaker 2: book out of all of my slamers.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Oh it's so crazy.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I'm be getting slander for what two months too, And.
- 28:15Speaker 4: I had everybody say I'm glazing.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I just learned that one. Throughout the battle glazing.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I pinned.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I always pinned the most disrespectful ones. You pin them
- 28:25Speaker 4: for a retweet.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I just learned glazing. Like in the last two months.
- 28:29Speaker 2: That was a good one. I didn't know what the
- 28:31Speaker 2: fuck they were saying.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Initially, apparently I'm Jay Glazer Maine.
- 28:34Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm DJ Gibbshead, who glazes.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Anyway. The whole time, I'm just you know, ship.
- 28:44Speaker 2: The thing is, you know, it's funny about when you
- 28:48Speaker 2: were dry. I think I remember when you called me.
- 28:50Speaker 2: But beyond that, family matters drops. The video is out.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I'm looking at it, like, okay, he shouted, he spends
- 29:00Speaker 2: some money.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Ain't even the right type of van, fuck it.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Whatever his symbolism cool whatever, you know, I don't expect
- 29:07Speaker 2: him to understand, you know what I mean.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Maybe you couldn't get the van in time. Who knows. Maybe.
- 29:13Speaker 1: So I'm like, yo, I'm watching it. I'm like, okay,
- 29:16Speaker 1: he went to the restaurant. That's such a Drake thing
- 29:18Speaker 1: to do.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Then I'm looking at it and he sends the stuff
- 29:22Speaker 2: about the Hoummies.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I'm like, oh yeah, he got nothing, nothing like that's crazy.
- 29:27Speaker 4: The most memorable line that Drake said throughout this whole
- 29:29Speaker 4: thing was about metro booming, shut your ass up and
- 29:32Speaker 4: make some.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Drums, And I'm just like wow. Then I thought it
- 29:35Speaker 2: was a miss because.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Well, again, you wouldn't know this if you're not up,
- 29:40Speaker 1: if you're not culturally of that. But when someone directly
- 29:44Speaker 1: is pressing your line, you dressed that person, not everybody
- 29:47Speaker 1: who has said event. So I think you you segregated
- 29:51Speaker 1: your attention span and now you've left yourself vulnerable.
- 29:56Speaker 4: It was two records in a row that he addressed
- 29:58Speaker 4: everybody and not just Kennon, and again not having people
- 30:01Speaker 4: in the room who like, hey, you know what, that's
- 30:03Speaker 4: not no, no, no, that's not the p It's funny because
- 30:05Speaker 4: when he put out the last record that was like
- 30:07Speaker 4: the White Flag, I called you again right away and
- 30:10Speaker 4: you were like, it's over, it's over. I talked to Kendrick,
- 30:14Speaker 4: it's over. But it's funny because I thought, well, at
- 30:16Speaker 4: least he addressed him directly for a whole song, because
- 30:20Speaker 4: he didn't do that prior to that, because it's like,
- 30:22Speaker 4: what again, It's like, we know he's short, we know
- 30:25Speaker 4: like he's a short guy, and he cares about his people,
- 30:32Speaker 4: and uh, he wears a certain size.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Shoe, and well, you know what's funny is when the initial.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Again, I want to I want to shout out to
- 30:45Speaker 2: Doc and Dave and and too because you know, it
- 30:50Speaker 2: was a lot of shit going on, and you know,
- 30:53Speaker 2: they empowered me. But at the same time it was
- 30:56Speaker 2: still like I wasn't speaking for them.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I wasn't.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I wasn't fully aware of everything that was going on
- 31:01Speaker 2: until like later on. But when the push Ups this
- 31:06Speaker 2: shit came out. Somebody told me that.
- 31:10Speaker 1: He called the record push Ups because of what I said,
- 31:13Speaker 1: because it wouldn't have a title. I remember, it was
- 31:16Speaker 1: just a record.
- 31:17Speaker 2: It it was just a song that Academics was playing
- 31:19Speaker 2: the record or whatever, and he didn't put it out.
- 31:22Speaker 2: It was just Academics was the only one in the world.
- 31:24Speaker 4: With the record, and he the first version was like
- 31:28Speaker 4: it was like a leak or whatever.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Yeah, whatever, cool.
- 31:30Speaker 2: So I said what I said, like, you know about
- 31:34Speaker 2: you posting pictures whatever, and then your push Ups record.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And then somebody was like yo, you know, like oh,
- 31:40Speaker 2: the next day I found out when when it would
- 31:42Speaker 2: actually get put up.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Somebody called me.
- 31:46Speaker 2: No need to say all of that, but someone called
- 31:48Speaker 2: me and said, yeah, you must have really said I
- 31:50Speaker 2: pushed his button because he's putting the record out.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I said, when he said thirty minutes, said say.
- 31:56Speaker 4: Look because you said it's not on DSPs. It wasn't.
- 31:58Speaker 2: It claimed it, it wasn't on it. SoundCloud, it wasn't
- 32:01Speaker 2: anywhere was the only person with the record. So I
- 32:06Speaker 2: went on Twitter and I was like, Yo, the boy's
- 32:08Speaker 2: putting the record out.
- 32:09Speaker 1: It'd be up in thirty minutes.
- 32:12Speaker 2: It was up thirty minutes later, push ups, and so
- 32:16Speaker 2: I think that's when people were like, oh shit, you know,
- 32:19Speaker 2: let me see like he knows what he's talking about.
- 32:21Speaker 3: And then you called the Camia Cabello.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Thing shot that records, that record's coming out, but you
- 32:26Speaker 1: called that The thing is bro And this is I'm
- 32:29Speaker 1: gonna say this, because.
- 32:30Speaker 4: What did you say about it? You pretty much said,
- 32:32Speaker 4: don't hold up that young lady's record.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Again.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I had information about him holding up a record for
- 32:40Speaker 2: Camilla Cabello, and I was like, yo, but the thing
- 32:44Speaker 2: is it wasn't really I wasn't using Camilla as a
- 32:46Speaker 2: pawn for Cloud or for anything like that. It was
- 32:50Speaker 2: more like, bro, just because I'm running a fade with you,
- 32:53Speaker 2: don't hold this girl career up.
- 32:55Speaker 4: She needs this record. Let her get a record off.
- 32:57Speaker 4: To be fair, though, if you're Drake and you just
- 33:00Speaker 4: found Kendrick for doing songs with Maroon five and Taylor Swift.
- 33:03Speaker 4: And in the middle of that conflict, you drop a
- 33:05Speaker 4: Camia Cabello feature.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Jesus Christ, what do we talk?
- 33:08Speaker 4: Okay?
- 33:08Speaker 1: So in that same breath, by the way, he also
- 33:11Speaker 1: danced to the Tailor Show. So in that same breath,
- 33:13Speaker 1: why are you doing shit you're not proud of?
- 33:15Speaker 4: You're right? Why even do it? Yeah? I don't.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I'm not gonna do whatever I do. If I fuck
- 33:22Speaker 2: up or whatever, I'm gonna own it.
- 33:24Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Hey, I fucked up. You
- 33:25Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Whatever, just cool.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I'm not saying that the record is fuck up, but
- 33:30Speaker 2: I'm just saying, don't punish somebody else for some shit
- 33:33Speaker 2: you got going on, like you got sometimes you gotta
- 33:36Speaker 2: follo on your sword, right, Just let her put the
- 33:38Speaker 2: record out, bro, like you shoot the video, go do.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Let her do her outside of this shit. But I mean,
- 33:44Speaker 1: it wasn't just her.
- 33:45Speaker 2: The whole industry kind of shut down for like two weeks,
- 33:47Speaker 2: like nobody's dropping nothing. Everybody get the fuck out the way.
- 33:51Speaker 2: You know, you know what's gonna happen. And then you know,
- 33:53Speaker 2: Dot took his time and cooked his food.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Yeah. It's interesting too because the double standard that was
- 33:59Speaker 4: being held between to like that verse being released and
- 34:02Speaker 4: how long it took Drake to put anything out compared
- 34:05Speaker 4: to when push ups dropped and then the Euphoria release gap.
- 34:09Speaker 4: It was like people were all of a sudden extremely
- 34:12Speaker 4: forgetful that it took Drake like a month to reply
- 34:15Speaker 4: to the like.
- 34:16Speaker 2: That, but then fuck the month. He's been getting poked forever.
- 34:20Speaker 2: They've been doing that ship forever.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Yeah, for years.
- 34:23Speaker 4: All the stuff, Yeah it is.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that shit don't matter, bro. The thing is salute
- 34:28Speaker 2: to him. Like I said, I've been saying this for
- 34:30Speaker 2: the whole what two and a half months, three months?
- 34:33Speaker 2: Just make your songs, right, Make your songs, bro, We're
- 34:40Speaker 2: gonna play them. You're gonna play them. I'm gonna play them.
- 34:42Speaker 2: We're gonna play the records he makes hits. Make your bobs,
- 34:46Speaker 2: But don't play the culture game. You're gonna lose if
- 34:49Speaker 2: you play the culture game. That's like, and one thing
- 34:52Speaker 2: I will say this about I can say this about you. Actually,
- 34:57Speaker 2: you're probably the only one that I know that out
- 34:59Speaker 2: of the people that I'm thinking of in my head
- 35:02Speaker 2: from people that like that are white, who who exists
- 35:05Speaker 2: in the space. You can't play the culture game with
- 35:08Speaker 2: somebody like me. You're gonna lose, you know what I mean,
- 35:11Speaker 2: Because you don't you're not culturally potent in that way.
- 35:15Speaker 2: And so all I've been saying to him is, bro,
- 35:16Speaker 2: make your do your ship, do you do your records,
- 35:20Speaker 2: cav do your podcast, but don't play the culture game
- 35:23Speaker 2: because you're gonna get You're gonna get eviscerated. And it's
- 35:26Speaker 2: not even gonna be it's not even gonna be fair.
- 35:28Speaker 2: It's not even a fair fight. And then that's also
- 35:30Speaker 2: why it was like all right, all right, he's got enough,
- 35:34Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like fuck it, you know,
- 35:36Speaker 2: we got the number one record in the world, Like.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I thought it was interesting. Like also the like bringing
- 35:42Speaker 4: like saying Hyg's name on a record. It's like YG
- 35:46Speaker 4: was at the pop out on stage and what looks
- 35:50Speaker 4: to be in the music video.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I don't have a comment on that, but.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Have you heard that there's this this West Coast remix coming?
- 35:58Speaker 1: I don't know nothing about nothing.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Nice do you feel like?
- 36:04Speaker 4: Let me ask you this head, because obviously you've been
- 36:06Speaker 4: pushing the West Coast line so hard for so many years, right,
- 36:10Speaker 4: how does the West not how do they make sure
- 36:16Speaker 4: to properly take advantage of this current moment, because to me,
- 36:19Speaker 4: it feels like the chance to take it back to
- 36:24Speaker 4: ninety three, ninety four and like take the crown. Atlanta's
- 36:28Speaker 4: had it for so long.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Hit records shit, at the end of the day, the
- 36:33Speaker 2: day go in shout out the glowrilla. We we just
- 36:39Speaker 2: need records, and we have to go in with a
- 36:40Speaker 2: consorted effort to create undeniable records.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I think everybody goes in.
- 36:45Speaker 2: It's not everybody, but a lot of people, not even
- 36:47Speaker 2: just in LA but in hip hop.
- 36:49Speaker 4: A lot of people go in to booth and just.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Fuck around, punch in, punch out.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Hey.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I like that, and it's like, bro, no, that's not
- 36:56Speaker 2: how the magic is made. Sometimes you can get away
- 36:59Speaker 2: with that, but more more times than not, it's a
- 37:01Speaker 2: collaborative effort. There's thought behind it, there's deep meaning. There's
- 37:04Speaker 2: a lot of intention that goes into these hit records.
- 37:07Speaker 2: And what good is the spotlight if you if you
- 37:10Speaker 2: don't have nothing for it? And so I think right now,
- 37:12Speaker 2: the initiative for everybody that I've been pushing, I've been
- 37:15Speaker 2: on the phone for two weeks non stop all day.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Put records out, hit records, hit records, work together, bring
- 37:23Speaker 1: somebody in the studio. Who's gonna who's gonna contest.
- 37:26Speaker 4: You, work out, maybe work outside of your comfort circle.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Bro. All of that shit matters.
- 37:30Speaker 2: And it's not just for La It's for the Bay,
- 37:32Speaker 2: it's for Sacramento.
- 37:33Speaker 1: It's fun, it's for San Diego, everybody.
- 37:36Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 37:37Speaker 1: For sure?
- 37:38Speaker 2: I think, I think also to what I noticed, and
- 37:41Speaker 2: there's a lot of camaraderie. I just connected two of
- 37:43Speaker 2: the homies today who hadn't worked together, Like, Hey, hook
- 37:46Speaker 2: me up with so and so. Put them on both
- 37:48Speaker 2: on FaceTime. A boom, all right, yea, I'm finish sing
- 37:51Speaker 2: you something fin to send you someth let's jump on
- 37:53Speaker 2: this whatever.
- 37:54Speaker 1: So that's coming.
- 37:54Speaker 2: And then you got you know why, Jesus announced just
- 37:57Speaker 2: read up three is dropping. Mustard just announced his album
- 37:59Speaker 2: You Got the Song with Travis Scott. Roddy has got
- 38:03Speaker 2: a smash in the tuck. It's a lot of ship
- 38:07Speaker 2: that's about to happen.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Tie.
- 38:09Speaker 2: I gotta have sould making making some he made, I
- 38:12Speaker 2: gotta have sold making slaps.
- 38:14Speaker 1: You know what I mean, so I think, like.
- 38:15Speaker 4: You said, like those guys you just mentioned, they gotta
- 38:18Speaker 4: like now they gotta deliver. And then it's like the
- 38:21Speaker 4: cream rises to the top, right, and then Kaylen can deliver,
- 38:24Speaker 4: and then Zoe can deliver.
- 38:25Speaker 2: And I just talked to Kaitlyn today and it was
- 38:27Speaker 2: the same type of thing. And it's just like I
- 38:29Speaker 2: got I've been talking the problem Jason Martin.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Blast you know, Black Blast Ship's coming about about.
- 38:35Speaker 1: You know, getting in with these younger dudes and helping
- 38:37Speaker 1: them with their records.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Because like, if we're being honest, like Jason Martin is
- 38:41Speaker 2: one of the best to do it that's ever come
- 38:43Speaker 2: out of out of this section from a song, from
- 38:47Speaker 2: a song crafting perspective, he's one of the best. And
- 38:51Speaker 2: so I need him to fuck with these dudes, and
- 38:53Speaker 2: I need these dudes to listen to him.
- 38:56Speaker 1: It's just what it is.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Yeah, It's like like I think that at the end
- 39:01Speaker 4: of the day, like understanding the moment too is important,
- 39:04Speaker 4: Like you got to understand so that way, you know,
- 39:07Speaker 4: like I can't just go to the studio and just
- 39:09Speaker 4: do what I've been.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Doing, No, and you can't.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Your business has to be right, right, the homies can't
- 39:15Speaker 2: be be your publisher, Like, what do you what does
- 39:18Speaker 2: he know about publish?
- 39:19Speaker 4: Shout out to three one Old Baby two, who obviously
- 39:21Speaker 4: has had a smash record before this, and uh, the
- 39:24Speaker 4: new record.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Is yeah, But I'm just saying, like, yo, get your
- 39:27Speaker 2: business together and if you don't call me right, I
- 39:30Speaker 2: can help you with that.
- 39:32Speaker 4: What do you think about There was some icon that
- 39:35Speaker 4: said that he thought there was a lack of Mexican
- 39:37Speaker 4: representation on stage. I like to who icon la Icon?
- 39:40Speaker 4: He's a podcast podcaster. But I also like to point
- 39:44Speaker 4: out Coyote. Shout to the boys from Coyote. They they said,
- 39:47Speaker 4: I love Coyote.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Their fucking Coyote is literally I think Kyrie's my favorite
- 39:53Speaker 2: Latin artists.
- 39:54Speaker 4: They're killing it. But they had said that the one
- 39:57Speaker 4: person who actually deserved to be up there was up there.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Oh geez, he got hits, They got the records man
- 40:04Speaker 1: so much respect.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Like to be honest, like, I don't even know if
- 40:07Speaker 2: there's anybody on the Latin side that I respect more
- 40:09Speaker 2: than Coyote from a skills standpoint and also from a
- 40:12Speaker 2: mentality standpoint.
- 40:13Speaker 4: They want to earn everything. They want to earn it
- 40:15Speaker 4: all and they're doing everything the right.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Way, and I just I just respect them dudes.
- 40:18Speaker 2: They bet on themselves, like it's to me, those dudes
- 40:22Speaker 2: are the epitome of what people should be looking at
- 40:24Speaker 2: if you're.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Gonna do it yourself.
- 40:25Speaker 2: I agree and so but yeah to what they said,
- 40:28Speaker 2: I don't care about that like that. To me, it's
- 40:30Speaker 2: just a lot of people speaking out of ignorance and
- 40:32Speaker 2: don't and don't understand. I mean, and the meaning behind
- 40:37Speaker 2: that is misconstrued. But whatever. To me, I don't get
- 40:40Speaker 2: I'm no longer. I'm fucking forty now, I don't. I'm
- 40:43Speaker 2: not gonna argue with nobody on the internet. I'm not
- 40:45Speaker 2: gonna fight nobody. Hey, if you want to fight me,
- 40:47Speaker 2: you got it, you won you mean say it on camera?
- 40:50Speaker 2: You wan like, I don't.
- 40:51Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 40:51Speaker 2: I don't give a fuck about it. I paid way
- 40:53Speaker 2: too much money in taxes, so I'm just like, I
- 40:56Speaker 2: don't got time for that ship. I mean, So I'm
- 40:59Speaker 2: not finna be arguing with people about nothing. Whatever it is,
- 41:02Speaker 2: you right, you want, and if you want to have
- 41:03Speaker 2: a conversation, we have a conversation.
- 41:05Speaker 1: I'll offer some authenticity to you. But I'm not about
- 41:08Speaker 1: to go around the.
- 41:09Speaker 2: World trying to correct everybody on their miss their misconceptions
- 41:12Speaker 2: of what it is.
- 41:13Speaker 4: I just had another thought on my head. We need
- 41:15Speaker 4: a OT Genesis smash right now. We need one. We
- 41:17Speaker 4: need one right now. Where's ot at man?
- 41:19Speaker 1: Ot is on tour.
- 41:20Speaker 4: You gotta put that tequila down.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Ot Ot is on the road too. I think he
- 41:25Speaker 2: I don't know where he was going to.
- 41:28Speaker 4: That was. You know what's funny is until like write
- 41:30Speaker 4: this moment, I was like, oh shit, ot should have
- 41:33Speaker 4: came out.
- 41:33Speaker 2: I thought about that too, but it's like, you can't
- 41:35Speaker 2: get it because I remember people like man Long Beach.
- 41:37Speaker 2: I'm like, bro, if you have four hours and that's
- 41:41Speaker 2: gonna eat up a good hour and a half.
- 41:44Speaker 4: Of that Snoop was on tour.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Yeah, so you got two and a half hours from
- 41:49Speaker 2: start to finish to curate and how do you You
- 41:52Speaker 2: can't do that.
- 41:53Speaker 3: It's just there's just not enough time.
- 41:54Speaker 1: It's logistically impossible.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Plus changeover plus and a lot of people don't understand
- 41:58Speaker 2: how shows work. You have to do changeover, you have
- 42:01Speaker 2: to do line switching, like they can't just oh, you
- 42:03Speaker 2: have to close your laptop and bring the next djil
- 42:06Speaker 2: It don't work like that. And so anyway, long story short,
- 42:10Speaker 2: we need ol T record. I know Joe's Joe just
- 42:14Speaker 2: dropped or he is dropping like it's some ship coming.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I want to be honest. I'm waiting for a new
- 42:19Speaker 2: Plow record.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Him and a cool gen are about to drop movie too.
- 42:23Speaker 1: I'm waiting on a new Plow record. Bro.
- 42:25Speaker 2: I need Plow to come in and produce a lot
- 42:28Speaker 2: of these records for these dudes.
- 42:30Speaker 4: They need some beats.
- 42:31Speaker 1: I need Plow to come in produce.
- 42:32Speaker 2: And I want to see I want to see some
- 42:34Speaker 2: cross some cross collaboration from other people. Like there's this
- 42:38Speaker 2: dude I forgot his name, whishu you remember his name?
- 42:40Speaker 2: Out of Sacramento.
- 42:41Speaker 1: He's fucking dope.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Uh deep about the bag?
- 42:44Speaker 1: No, I mean everybody, it's another guy that's just coming up.
- 42:48Speaker 4: Damn.
- 42:48Speaker 2: I sent him a book. But anyway, I want to
- 42:51Speaker 2: see cross collaborations. I want to see people doing secular
- 42:54Speaker 2: non secular music. I know you atheists, but Miles Minnick
- 42:58Speaker 2: is fucking fire.
- 43:00Speaker 3: I know I saw you.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I had never heard of him until you posted that
- 43:02Speaker 1: he was at the Miles.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Where is he from.
- 43:06Speaker 1: He's from the Bay okay, so but he's a Christian rapper.
- 43:08Speaker 1: He's a Christian rapper and it's not what you think.
- 43:10Speaker 3: But it's not like overly like.
- 43:12Speaker 1: It's imagine imagine plow in church. Mm hm oh it's cracking. Listen,
- 43:19Speaker 1: Oh it's cracking. It's cracking.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Shout to Miles minic Bro, him and dars Bro like
- 43:24Speaker 2: that ship different. So it's like a lot of Russells
- 43:27Speaker 2: Zold Simon. He just dropped stump, which is gonna be
- 43:29Speaker 2: to me, it's gonna be a slow burn, but it's
- 43:31Speaker 2: gonna be one of.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Them records that's gonna go video. Yeah, it's gonna go.
- 43:36Speaker 2: And then, like I think, based on what I haven't heard,
- 43:39Speaker 2: I'm I'm supposed to put up on pull up on
- 43:41Speaker 2: r J. But I know he got some ship that
- 43:44Speaker 2: he about to drop to because he got a big
- 43:46Speaker 2: shot at the Palladium.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Yeah. I think RJ is the best performer in l A.
- 43:52Speaker 1: I could, I could see it.
- 43:53Speaker 4: I just I don't think anybody just when RJ hits
- 43:55Speaker 4: the stage, Bro, it's a suspected. It's just different. Like
- 43:59Speaker 4: when he bro, I knew he was in I knew.
- 44:01Speaker 4: I knew because I know how much you love RJ,
- 44:04Speaker 4: so I just knew he was coming. I was like,
- 44:05Speaker 4: I can't wait for RJ to hit that motherfucker. He's
- 44:07Speaker 4: gonna turn this bitch off. Yeah, but yeah, shout out
- 44:10Speaker 4: to RJ. Yeah.
- 44:11Speaker 1: No, RJ is like he's special.
- 44:15Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 44:16Speaker 1: I think I think we're in a good place. Like
- 44:17Speaker 1: RJ got a big show at the Palladium coming up,
- 44:19Speaker 1: and I think that's gonna be career defining for him
- 44:22Speaker 1: if he does it right. Yeah, I think, uhause you
- 44:25Speaker 1: got to remember all this, like Nipsey did his Palladium show,
- 44:28Speaker 1: the Victory Lap show, and then Roddy did his Palladium show,
- 44:31Speaker 1: Blast did his Dom did his plate. Like I think
- 44:33Speaker 1: that Palladium show kind of sets everybody up.
- 44:35Speaker 4: It's always like a you know, it's like something you
- 44:38Speaker 4: check off. It's like it goes Roxy. Okay, I got
- 44:40Speaker 4: my Roxy show. The palladiums like you said, like the
- 44:43Speaker 4: nip one, the Roddy one. Like I remember the first
- 44:45Speaker 4: time Roddy did Pladium and he was playing the keys.
- 44:48Speaker 4: That was like so iconic. It's like, oh shit is
- 44:50Speaker 4: different now different?
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and Blast did two nights in a row. It's crazy.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Dolo that shit crazy. So it's like a lot of
- 44:56Speaker 1: these dudes like Blast is coming too. You know, I
- 44:58Speaker 1: like him fucking fade, I'm sure on the way, Yeah.
- 45:03Speaker 2: I like I like them fucking with different types of
- 45:05Speaker 2: music too, for sure. I really, to be honest, I
- 45:08Speaker 2: really wish I don't know what the politic is, but
- 45:11Speaker 2: I really wish we could do some more black and
- 45:12Speaker 2: brown shit.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I really want that.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Well, I mean r J and Left he did a
- 45:16Speaker 4: dope record.
- 45:17Speaker 1: No, no, no, I'm not saying I'm not saying that.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I'm talking about across the board, about like southern California,
- 45:22Speaker 2: northern California.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Oh yeah, like that shit will be fire.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Bro.
- 45:26Speaker 3: You know what Jude, that is?
- 45:27Speaker 2: You know what I really want to hear. I want
- 45:29Speaker 2: to hear I want to hear Coyote on some plo shit.
- 45:33Speaker 4: That would be crazy.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Sheould be crazy, Bro, them rapping ass foods on some
- 45:36Speaker 1: plow ship, it might go crazy. I want to hear
- 45:39Speaker 1: Lefty gun play on some plow ship. I agree, I
- 45:42Speaker 1: think there's we need that, bro. Like, Like the best
- 45:45Speaker 1: the best.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Run we had was when Mustard was running during mustards
- 45:50Speaker 2: whole crazy run and then during that La to the
- 45:52Speaker 2: base shit.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Yeah. I think like, when you think about that that
- 45:57Speaker 4: period there was Mustard, Legua Stars and then Plow and
- 46:01Speaker 4: it was just like b K yep HBK Gang and.
- 46:04Speaker 1: It was different.
- 46:04Speaker 2: The energy was up, and I think like and also
- 46:07Speaker 2: and I want, you know, I want to make sure
- 46:09Speaker 2: this is conveyed. Stop making slow ass music. Nobody wants
- 46:13Speaker 2: to hear that dreary ass slow ass shit.
- 46:14Speaker 4: No more.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Okay, I'm done with that, so go get with your producers,
- 46:19Speaker 2: get with your engineers, make your ship ninety ninety bpm
- 46:22Speaker 2: and up I get. I'll give you eighty five. Eighty
- 46:25Speaker 2: five bpm is the slowest record I'm playing moving forward.
- 46:28Speaker 1: So it is what it is.
- 46:30Speaker 4: Are there any female m seas in La that? Because
- 46:34Speaker 4: it yo the Couzzos, I know they performed. The Couzzos
- 46:38Speaker 4: got energy right. That shit was dope.
- 46:40Speaker 2: They got so much energy, and I was I love
- 46:42Speaker 2: that for them because they they don't get that look
- 46:45Speaker 2: like that, and I loved I love seeing these.
- 46:47Speaker 1: The Couzzos up there. I know, Age, you got some
- 46:49Speaker 1: shit coming. There's this girl.
- 46:50Speaker 2: I wish I could remember her name, but she hard.
- 46:53Speaker 2: She's a dope ass rapper from here.
- 46:56Speaker 4: Fuck. I still feel like we need like the face
- 46:59Speaker 4: of like the female face in LA is up for grabs.
- 47:02Speaker 4: It is up for grabs, yeah, because right now I think,
- 47:05Speaker 4: like on like a California, I'm like, you know what,
- 47:09Speaker 4: it isn't up for grabs. Technically it's Doja Cat. Well, yeah, man,
- 47:12Speaker 4: Doja Cat.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I count Doja Cat like people count Kendrick.
- 47:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:15Speaker 3: But she's yeah, you're right.
- 47:16Speaker 4: She's such a brilliant MC, brilliant artist.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I mean, I remember, what's crazy.
- 47:21Speaker 2: I remember doing a two Dough Boys event in two thousand,
- 47:23Speaker 2: Like fucking what year.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Was that two Dope Boy shout out to Shake and.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Mack twenty twelve or something like.
- 47:29Speaker 4: That about right, Yeah, I.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Was DJing a two Dope Boys event and I'm packing
- 47:34Speaker 2: my like Mecca jumps on the turntable, so I'm done.
- 47:36Speaker 2: So I'm like I'm about to go, and I'm walking
- 47:39Speaker 2: out the door of my bag and this girl jumps
- 47:41Speaker 2: in front of me. She got on these whiskers and shit,
- 47:43Speaker 2: I'm like what the fuck. And she's like, hey, I'm like,
- 47:46Speaker 2: what's up. She's like I'm like, she's like, I'm Dojah.
- 47:49Speaker 2: I'm like what. She's like, what's your name, I said,
- 47:51Speaker 2: I'm DJ. She was like, well, I'm Doja Cat. I said,
- 47:53Speaker 2: what the fuck is a Doja Cat? She said, she
- 47:58Speaker 2: said that's my name. I'm like, okay, what's so nice
- 48:01Speaker 2: to me. She's like, yeah, it's nice to meet you.
- 48:02Speaker 2: I'm about to go rap and she just she's a
- 48:04Speaker 2: rappers bro. She's like, she was like a two dope
- 48:06Speaker 2: this I'm saying, she's like a real head. And you
- 48:08Speaker 2: would understand this because you've been here out here long enough.
- 48:11Speaker 2: This event was in like the industrial warehouse downtown, like
- 48:14Speaker 2: on the backside of the Third Street Bridge, like crazy,
- 48:17Speaker 2: super underground, Like.
- 48:18Speaker 4: Yeah, two Dope Boys was like definitely the.
- 48:21Speaker 2: First class and furious type shit, you know what I mean, Like,
- 48:24Speaker 2: what the fuck are you doing?
- 48:25Speaker 1: Just this white girl in there just and she was
- 48:28Speaker 1: like wrapping her.
- 48:29Speaker 4: Ass off because Doojah white or she mixed. I don't know.
- 48:32Speaker 3: I think she's mixed, right, Oh, she's mixed.
- 48:34Speaker 1: The only thing was she looked she looked like a
- 48:36Speaker 1: white girl at that time.
- 48:37Speaker 4: I want I.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Want Dojah to like just bang l a a little more.
- 48:44Speaker 1: She I mean, the thing is Dojah is I.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Don't mean bang like on some gang shit. But just
- 48:48Speaker 4: like you know, obviously her song is called the Gray Hills,
- 48:50Speaker 4: and she you know she But I just I feel
- 48:53Speaker 4: like this moment that's happening right now, like somehow she
- 48:56Speaker 4: needed to acknowledge it, be a part of it, be
- 48:58Speaker 4: on the side of this.
- 48:59Speaker 1: I don't know, Like I just I don't think she
- 49:01Speaker 1: needs to do that.
- 49:03Speaker 3: She don't need to do nothing.
- 49:03Speaker 1: She's her own thing for sure.
- 49:05Speaker 2: What I would like is for Djah to participate on
- 49:09Speaker 2: a level that it's beneficial to the city, you know
- 49:13Speaker 2: what I mean, Like we always talk about like Dot
- 49:15Speaker 2: participated and you see the ramifications of that, you know,
- 49:18Speaker 2: I mean.
- 49:18Speaker 3: She's from the valley.
- 49:20Speaker 4: The Valley. Yeah. Well it's funny too because like you
- 49:23Speaker 4: and I had always kind of like I wouldn't say
- 49:26Speaker 4: butt heads, but we're on different sides of the Tyler
- 49:28Speaker 4: the Creator fandom. Yeah, I've always I mean, I apologize
- 49:32Speaker 4: to you, no I saw you. I saw you, But
- 49:33Speaker 4: like you know, I've been wucking with him since you know,
- 49:35Speaker 4: the Odd Future Wolfgang.
- 49:37Speaker 3: But you're very when.
- 49:38Speaker 4: You start talking about crazy shit and the devil and
- 49:42Speaker 4: all the wild shit that Tyler used to talk about
- 49:44Speaker 4: when he was an Odd Future Wolfgang kill him all
- 49:47Speaker 4: and all that shit. It just wasn't for you log off, Yeah,
- 49:50Speaker 4: for sure. And but you know, there'd always kind of
- 49:54Speaker 4: been like you know these like separate LA's on the
- 49:58Speaker 4: hip hop side where you would like look at like.
- 50:00Speaker 1: I think it's like four different LA's.
- 50:01Speaker 4: There's like the guys like the Internet and Tyler and
- 50:04Speaker 4: and then there'd be the RJ's and and the more
- 50:09Speaker 4: you know, street centric sides where politics are very prevalent
- 50:14Speaker 4: in the imagery and the music. Then they would you say,
- 50:18Speaker 4: like the Fairfax kind of wave, which was odd future
- 50:22Speaker 4: casey Veggie's.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Dom Dom well Down's from Lamart Park.
- 50:26Speaker 2: But same, So what are the other two then? So
- 50:29Speaker 2: I would look at it, it's like you got you
- 50:32Speaker 2: got like the Lamart Park. Actually I would say it's three.
- 50:35Speaker 2: I would say it's the street guys. You got the
- 50:38Speaker 2: hipster crowd, which is that like.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Tyler all that kind of shit, and then you have.
- 50:43Speaker 2: The other and the other would be like a Doja
- 50:45Speaker 2: cat right, she don't really fit into would you.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Consider look as the other?
- 50:52Speaker 1: Nah that is from Compton for real?
- 50:54Speaker 4: No, No, I know, but I'm saying like in terms
- 50:56Speaker 4: of like that because I always like, when I think.
- 50:58Speaker 1: You're looking at it as a sound thing, trick in
- 51:00Speaker 1: the imagery thing, don't look at.
- 51:02Speaker 4: It like that.
- 51:02Speaker 1: That's the that's the trick. That's how he got him right.
- 51:04Speaker 2: You have to look at it like Dot has always
- 51:09Speaker 2: made references in his music that ties him to the
- 51:12Speaker 2: community he comes from, for sure. Same thing Roddy Roddy
- 51:15Speaker 2: O Roddy sounds like he's from the South. Roddy wear Dicky.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Suit on on the Grammy Awards and says cousin his music, right,
- 51:22Speaker 1: you know, I mean they're in twenty twenty. Right culture.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Culture is prevalent in both of those people, regardless of
- 51:30Speaker 2: what the sec what it is that you're hearing.
- 51:33Speaker 1: I look at it.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Differently because doja you can look at her shit and
- 51:37Speaker 2: not know where the fuck she's from. Fact she's She's
- 51:39Speaker 2: culturally ambiguous, which works for her. She's from here. We
- 51:42Speaker 2: claim her right one hundred percent. Tyler's from here, we
- 51:45Speaker 2: claim him one hundred percent. But you can look at
- 51:47Speaker 2: their art and not know where they're from. That's true,
- 51:50Speaker 2: you get what I'm saying. So, and even Tyler it
- 51:53Speaker 2: has culture in his music for sure, the way he
- 51:55Speaker 2: dances and shit.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Tyler's an a nigga.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but I look at it differently just because the
- 52:02Speaker 2: way Doja is. She became a pop star immediately, and
- 52:06Speaker 2: then she had to remind you niggas that she could.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Rap, right, you know what I mean.
- 52:09Speaker 4: This last album she had to tell.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Y'all got Doljah fucked up for sure, you know what
- 52:14Speaker 1: I mean, like dog.
- 52:15Speaker 4: You can rap.
- 52:16Speaker 3: I think she's honestly, yeah.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Those just fucking over a lot of girls, and from
- 52:21Speaker 1: a rat perspective, definitely keep it a lot of men too.
- 52:25Speaker 1: I was about to say, to keep it a buck.
- 52:28Speaker 1: She those is kind of fucking over a lot of
- 52:30Speaker 1: you do for sure.
- 52:31Speaker 4: I was gonna ask you Roddy obviously you've you know,
- 52:35Speaker 4: Roddy's somebody who's one of my favorite artists. You know,
- 52:38Speaker 4: please excuse me for being anti social. I remember he
- 52:40Speaker 4: gave us that title where We're at We're at a
- 52:44Speaker 4: uh and uh. You know, I feel like he's an
- 52:49Speaker 4: introvert and I feel like the pandemic. I'm not sure
- 52:53Speaker 4: the pandemic affected somebody more than maybe the trajectory that
- 52:58Speaker 4: Roddy was on in terms of him not necessarily being
- 53:01Speaker 4: able to get in that full festival season when the
- 53:05Speaker 4: Box was the number one song in the world, and
- 53:08Speaker 4: you know, think about it. December twenty nineteen is when
- 53:11Speaker 4: the album drops. Yeah, and in March twenty twenty is
- 53:14Speaker 4: when we shut down.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Everything done.
- 53:16Speaker 4: And you know, I know there was multiple versions of
- 53:19Speaker 4: his second album, and you know, I know that you've
- 53:24Speaker 4: been really close with Roddy and helping him in the
- 53:27Speaker 4: studio and stuff, and just like, you know, it was
- 53:30Speaker 4: just it feels good to see. I feel like Roddy's
- 53:32Speaker 4: backing is like in is bag for real, like like confidence.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Wise, confidence wise, yes, but Roddy had to you got
- 53:40Speaker 2: to think. It's like I don't want to equate him
- 53:43Speaker 2: like this. They're going to probably not like this on
- 53:45Speaker 2: the internet. But it's kind of like when I talk
- 53:48Speaker 2: to my big homies about Mike Tyson and you take
- 53:50Speaker 2: a nineteen twenty year old and you give him ten
- 53:53Speaker 2: million or twenty million dollars or whatever it is, it's
- 53:55Speaker 2: like here, it's like, yo, I'm nineteen, right, he won.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Roddy was rich when he was. Roddy was really.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Rich at twenty one years old, crazy like in real
- 54:06Speaker 2: life rich, not like small rich rich, big rich. Yeah,
- 54:11Speaker 2: at twenty one, So it's like, what were you doing
- 54:14Speaker 2: at twenty one years old?
- 54:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 54:18Speaker 2: So I always think, I always people I want people
- 54:20Speaker 2: to just visualize that, right, And I don't want to
- 54:23Speaker 2: give like a number. But let's say let's say you're
- 54:26Speaker 2: twenty one years old, somebody gives you twenty million dollars.
- 54:28Speaker 3: What are you gonna do?
- 54:29Speaker 1: What do you do? Do you do?
- 54:30Speaker 2: You be like, you know what, I need to get
- 54:31Speaker 2: focused and make my next album, right, I need to
- 54:34Speaker 2: get in here and take this shit. You're like, yo,
- 54:37Speaker 2: then you got to deal with family. You gotta do
- 54:39Speaker 2: with the homies, you gotta do with everything coming at
- 54:40Speaker 2: your mile a minute. So when I've had these conversations
- 54:44Speaker 2: with him, he just like I just talked to him.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Actually, he called me yesterday.
- 54:48Speaker 2: We talked about half an hour yesterday and he was
- 54:50Speaker 2: just saying, like how much he appreciates our conversations.
- 54:52Speaker 4: And he's grown as a man.
- 54:54Speaker 2: You know, at this point, he's a father, right, he's
- 54:57Speaker 2: you know, you had your kid young, you know what
- 54:59Speaker 2: I mean, eighteen, So he's a dad now and he's
- 55:02Speaker 2: like learning how to be a man, and he's dealing
- 55:04Speaker 2: with the homies. And he's dealing with politics on a
- 55:05Speaker 2: different level where he got all of these white people
- 55:08Speaker 2: handling his business affairs. He got businesses in Miami, he
- 55:11Speaker 2: got businesses over here. He has businesses that are making
- 55:14Speaker 2: a lot of money every year, right that are outside
- 55:17Speaker 2: of music.
- 55:17Speaker 4: People you don't even like, we don't even know about it.
- 55:19Speaker 1: You don't even know about these businesses.
- 55:21Speaker 2: And so I think his mentality is just different at
- 55:25Speaker 2: this point, which translates into the music. And that's what
- 55:27Speaker 2: people are getting right now. Like I told him a
- 55:30Speaker 2: couple of years ago, like you gotta let these people in.
- 55:32Speaker 2: You gotta let people in. It's only so long you
- 55:34Speaker 2: could do the jewelry and the cars and shit like that.
- 55:36Speaker 2: People want to know who the fuck you are. People
- 55:38Speaker 2: want to know what you stand on where you stand,
- 55:40Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like that's that's been a
- 55:42Speaker 2: big criticism with with Drake for all these years. We
- 55:44Speaker 2: don't know where he stands on anything. You don't know
- 55:47Speaker 2: how he feels about Black lives matter. You don't know
- 55:49Speaker 2: how he feels. You don't know what shit, You don't know.
- 55:51Speaker 4: How That's what I've been saying for years. You don't
- 55:53Speaker 4: know how he feels about Trump. He doesn't have an
- 55:54Speaker 4: opinion on shit, on nothing except for these bitches.
- 55:57Speaker 2: And so my point is exactly. And so my point
- 56:00Speaker 2: is I was telling Roddy like, you gotta let us in.
- 56:03Speaker 2: I know, but they don't know. And so I think
- 56:06Speaker 2: he did that with Survivor's remorse, like he's phenomenal. Like
- 56:10Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, cause he didn't even let me see
- 56:12Speaker 2: the video until like we were on the phone at
- 56:14Speaker 2: four in the morning before it drops, and he sent
- 56:17Speaker 2: me the video maybe like I don't know, four hours
- 56:19Speaker 2: before it came out of it came about like six
- 56:21Speaker 2: am or whatever, I mean something like that, and he
- 56:24Speaker 2: sent me the link. We were on the phone because
- 56:25Speaker 2: he was blowing my phone and it was like it
- 56:28Speaker 2: was early as fuck, like four.
- 56:29Speaker 1: In the morning and some shit. I'm like, bro, what's up.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Everything good? I thought something happened. He's like, yeah, man,
- 56:33Speaker 1: I'm just you know, you know, like we were having
- 56:36Speaker 1: a private conversation, but he sent me the video. I'm like,
- 56:38Speaker 1: I called him right back. This is what the fuck
- 56:40Speaker 1: I've been talking about. When you listen to the song,
- 56:44Speaker 1: it's cool, it's a good song. When you watch the video,
- 56:47Speaker 1: you're like, oh shit, yeah, you know what I mean.
- 56:49Speaker 1: It's a different impact, and to me that was important
- 56:52Speaker 1: for him specifically. We know where Kendricks from, we know
- 56:55Speaker 1: where he's staying up, we know you could pretty much
- 56:58Speaker 1: extrapulate what he's on.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Well, I think too, like feed the Streets early Roddy,
- 57:03Speaker 4: it was very like.
- 57:04Speaker 2: This is where he's from, this where Yeah, you guys,
- 57:06Speaker 2: you don't know how he feels, right, We don't know
- 57:08Speaker 2: what he thinks, right. You know where he's from, and
- 57:10Speaker 2: the imagery is there. You can see his homies in
- 57:13Speaker 2: the project, but you don't know what's on his mind, right.
- 57:15Speaker 2: And I always try to explain the artists. You have
- 57:17Speaker 2: to figure out a way to translate that to people
- 57:19Speaker 2: who love your music, even in order to garner new fans,
- 57:22Speaker 2: because even when we do interviews, we don't talk about
- 57:25Speaker 2: just the album. I want to talk to you about fatherhood.
- 57:27Speaker 2: I want to talk to you about like when we
- 57:29Speaker 2: had an offset and or whoever come in.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Let's talk to you.
- 57:31Speaker 2: About being a dad, because if I don't like your
- 57:33Speaker 2: fucking album, I might connect to you as being a dad.
- 57:35Speaker 4: Right.
- 57:36Speaker 3: It might not be about the music.
- 57:37Speaker 4: It might be about a lot of people nowadays, like
- 57:40Speaker 4: they become fans of artists before they hear the music.
- 57:42Speaker 4: Like I have so many people, y'all. I love Mexicano
- 57:44Speaker 4: Tea man. I saw him on your podcast, I saw
- 57:46Speaker 4: him on Joe Rogan, and I saw him on Homegrown,
- 57:49Speaker 4: and then they go to the music, and then they
- 57:51Speaker 4: go to the music.
- 57:51Speaker 2: And so I think with Roddy, that's where he's at now.
- 57:54Speaker 2: He's he's man enough, and he's and he's being transparent
- 57:58Speaker 2: enough to allow the public into his life. And that's
- 58:01Speaker 2: why you see like him having his kid and or
- 58:04Speaker 2: you see and.
- 58:04Speaker 4: He's like one of the best songmakers of the last
- 58:06Speaker 4: I don't even know, Like I know people didn't like
- 58:08Speaker 4: a second second album, but there's a lot to love
- 58:11Speaker 4: on that album.
- 58:11Speaker 1: And you know what, I just feel.
- 58:12Speaker 2: I just realized I don't remember who I was songing to.
- 58:14Speaker 2: But like Roddy makes Roddy makes jamming ballads.
- 58:22Speaker 4: That's fair. And I was like, damn, late at night,
- 58:25Speaker 4: I never thought about it like that.
- 58:26Speaker 2: But he makes jam and ass ballads and he makes
- 58:29Speaker 2: ballots that are palatable in this in this climate, and
- 58:31Speaker 2: I was like, damn, I never.
- 58:32Speaker 3: Thought it real.
- 58:35Speaker 4: For people who don't know it was said that doctor
- 58:39Speaker 4: Dre was not too keen of you and your criticism
- 58:41Speaker 4: of the Compton album. Hm, did you get to see
- 58:45Speaker 4: Dre I.
- 58:45Speaker 3: Stayed out his way, he stayed out of his way?
- 58:47Speaker 1: Yeah I didn't. I didn't.
- 58:48Speaker 2: That wasn't the time of the place. I want to
- 58:50Speaker 2: have a I would love to have a conversation with you.
- 58:52Speaker 4: How important do you think doctor Dre and Snoop are
- 58:55Speaker 4: to this moment?
- 58:57Speaker 1: It's intermountable. Yeah, you don't get none of it Without
- 59:00Speaker 1: Snoop and Dre, you don't get I'm back, let me
- 59:02Speaker 1: back up.
- 59:02Speaker 4: You got a new dog Pen album that just came out,
- 59:04Speaker 4: Death rows.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Man Shot Out to the Death the dog Pound album. Bro.
- 59:07Speaker 2: I was so relieved to hear that because it wasn't
- 59:10Speaker 2: it was people expected. But it starts slowly turning into
- 59:13Speaker 2: not with people like that DJ Premiere record was crazy. Sure,
- 59:17Speaker 2: like people think like corrupt is one of the Corrupt
- 59:20Speaker 2: is like a really great MC godlevel MC bro for sure,
- 59:25Speaker 2: And people got corrupt fucked up. They got dass fucked
- 59:28Speaker 2: up too, but corrupt it's different. So I was I'd
- 59:31Speaker 2: love to see that. But let me back up. Let's
- 59:35Speaker 2: take Snoop out of it. You don't get none of
- 59:37Speaker 2: this ship without Doctor Dre. For sure, nothing nothing moves
- 59:41Speaker 2: without doctor Dre. You don't get n w A, you
- 59:43Speaker 2: don't get easy, you don't get nothing.
- 59:46Speaker 1: What uh death Road? Nothing. And so the biggest hip
- 59:51Speaker 1: hop tree ever, let's.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Take, let's take, let's go ahead and remove Snoop and
- 59:58Speaker 2: it's it's all Rose Leader Dre.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Yeah, doctor Dre's a fucking genius.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: I just hope that this moment also motivates them to
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: to Obviously, Snoop is active, you know.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Snoop It I love Snoop because Snoop participates in the Coach.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: Yeah, him and Quicker on tour right now in Canada,
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: I think. But in terms of like you know, Dre,
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: it's like, shit, man, you were in the Houdini video.
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: You just puffed up on stage with Kendrick.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: By the way, I like that Eminem song.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Yes you and a lot of fucking dudes who look
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: like me. They're fucking post forty.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: That song sucks.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: I like it. I mean, you know what, No, no,
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: let me let's put out worse songs.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I like the video.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: I like the Yo. So the problem that I had with.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Let me let me let me back up. I love
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: the video.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: The problem I had with the song is I heard
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: it on its own about the video.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: And so when you when you just listen to it,
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: and then when I saw.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: The video, it's like, oh, I get it. It was like,
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: oh this this old version of him came through the portal.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: I get it. And and honestly, it is a catchy
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: ass hook. It is a catchy hook, and he's he's
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: wrapping his ass off on the song it is. I
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: hope that this, you know, back in the day, Eminem
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: used to set up every album with my name is
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: or just Lose It or one of these goofy singles,
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: And I hope that this means we're gonna get an
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: amazing body of work from Eminem, because I actually like
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: the life. Do you remember when you and I were
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: in the studio and the Eminem fucking trackless dropped and
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: I don't fucking I just wanted to break everything because
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: I was just so to bro. Eminem had a decade
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: of just putting out less than favorable music in my
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: humble opinion, but music to be murdered by was great.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I wasn't. I wouldn't. I haven't been a fan of
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: none of the Eminem stuff.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: The last album was good. Music to be Murdered By
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: was actually like fucking great.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: No, No, Eminem was an elite MC for sure. I
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: wasn't a fan of the music, but like.
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: That Revival album is one of the worst album since
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: I released.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: I would love to get a steap peek of this
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: new album.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: Hear me too, man, hopefully, you know, I just want
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: everybody to be inspired to drop, like okay cool, you know,
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: like shots to muggs.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: Mugs been working like low.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Key with like TF and Jay Worthy and and you know, shit,
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: let's do a fucking cybercill album. Let's fucking you know.
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: We just got the DJ Quick and Jason Martin album.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: There's there's people motherfuckers are working. Yeah. I like.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I like the fact that I like that.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: It's also embrasive too, because there was a whole time
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: period where hip hop is as an age as an
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: age cap and you have to get out the way.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: But now it's like nah, bro, and.
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: Even like the you know, on the Mexican side, like
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: I feel like Mexican hip hop in LA has never
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: been stronger. Like it's great right now. You know, we
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: talked about coyote lefties, you know, for for how do
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: you feel about lefty lefties? Makes no music and.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Now it's a market for everything. I think I want
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: to see, Like, hey, so I want to see pace.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: I want to see the ogs really really embrace the
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: new producers. I think that's going to make a world
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: of difference, sure, because that's one thing that I do
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: give to the East Coast and even the South. I
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: guess they do the same thing.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: You'll you you will hear.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: You know, like.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: Fifty cent work with a new producer all the time,
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like you'll see that that
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: that's a thing that's not really a thing out here.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: Like also, though I wouldn't mind the young kids working with.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Like battle Cat or like, I want the same thing too.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: But at the same.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: Time, because I think Desi Hollow has done a really
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: good job of being he's from Ocean Side, but he's
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: making classic West Coast music and it's like working for him.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but you got dudes like Doggy Style, like right
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: like he like all these different people.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: I would love to see just the blending of it
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: because it's only going to make everybody better.
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: For sure.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: I need my guy mars. I need him to do
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: his part. I need him to get in with LOWD
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: of grade. I need these things to happen in order
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: for the progression of.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Shots A big hit shots to hit Boy two.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Big hit Big Hit is a prime example. What the
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: fuck I'm talking about?
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: There's a there's they got four songs, big hit got
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: I think like four songs.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: With m crazy, big hits crazy.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: It's like bro like he's he got out of prison
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: and got to work, got cracking, got it cracking.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Kendrick album coming.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: I guess so I share woul Hope so right? I mean,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I don't know you tell me.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: I mean, I'm assume so you in the group chat, right,
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: I'm not in the group chat that Cherry.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I'm not in no group chat. I'm in a group
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: chat with you.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: Whatever number I have for Dave Free has been green
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: bubbles for like six years.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: Nah shout out to Dave Man Like again, I wouldn't
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: be surprised if we got something soon, But I don't know.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: That's not me. It also was Nope.
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: Let me ask you this hed, how dope was it
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: to see? Because it felt like this moment pushed the
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: TD shit together. I'm not saying that it was like fractured,
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: but you know, Kendrick left did the pg lang thing.
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: But this moment to see everybody back together and say,
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: you know what, I know. I might not be on
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: the label no more, but this is where it started.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought that up because this brings me
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: back to what we started with, and that's culture. Cultural
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: nuance matters, relationships matter. There's never been a fracture in
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: that way. It's just a we want to see the
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: homie do his own thing.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Now, this is where culture matters. Let's say there is
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: a thing. There wasn't, but let's say there is a thing.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: Let's say let's say that. Let's say that DOT doesn't
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: fuck with TD and vice versa. Right, top don't fuck
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: with dot. Let's say that hypothetically speaking, right, if you're
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: an outsider, you can't come over here and pick on that.
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: We can pick on that, we can, but you can't.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: You can't.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: That's what people don't understand about cultural nuance and where
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: and how and where we come from. If I have
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: a brother and he special needs, I can make fun
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: of my brother.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: You can't.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: You can't make fun of my little brother.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Because yeah, that's a problem.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: That's why culture matters, and that's why being authentically from
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: those things matter, because if you don't, then you violate
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: said things, and now you get violated.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: And then you look stupid, then you look crazy. Yeah,
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: and now you're jow Rule, but is much more famous.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: I like Jiu hey man, I liked the New York
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: im from New York mes Maris. All that shit was cool,
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: but just never was the same again, was it? Anyway?
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: I wouldn't have Jirou produce my festival, but I fuck
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: with ji for sure.
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: I love jaw yeah, you know, but these things weren't
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: the same after back then, and I smelled pussy, you know,
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: all that good stuff. Anyway, head, I appreciate you pulling up.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: I'm about to piss my pants. Effective immediately Sundays.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: On Serious I'm Serious Scent hip Hop Nation, but.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: Five pm Pacific time.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Five. Yeah.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: You can also find effective immediately, effective immediately on the
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: YouTube podcast all that Homegrown.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Radio still going, Homegrown is still going?
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: Are you gonna put out any I feel like now
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: you got to put an album out. You've always talked
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: about it.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Stay tuned.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: DJ had album on the way that was to look
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: at Sallas DJ head album on the way. A lots
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: going on man, and then oh we did you know
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: this whole time we didn't even talk about your show
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: with the Elliot Wilson and Joe.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: The bigger picture makes you tap into the bigger picture.
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: Elliott Wilson, I appreciate you holding the Gold accountable for
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: his fucking thirty year long bias against you know everything
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: that's that's not Drake.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Drake han't been around for thirty years.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: No, but I mean not even that, Just like just
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: the East coast bias that we always are.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Talking about, he's West Coast Wilson.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Now now he's West coast Wilson.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: Shout out to Elliott Wilson, man, go get a bar
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: to the bigger picture. Hip hop d X up rocks.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Shout to the family over there. We're building something real special.
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: I saw your conversation and they were saying, is it
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: crazy not to consider Kendrick top ten? I think it's insane. No, no, no, no,
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: not to consider him top ten. I'm saying number one
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: is either j Z or Kendrick Lamar, And that's it.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: That's the conversation.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: And if you don't like that, suck some of it.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: I mean, I don't.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: Understand creature on your fucking podcast.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: I don't understand why that's even a conversation.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: Literally, it's Kendrick.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: It wasn't even on the show. On the show docket.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: I'm like, why are you even talking about this?
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: I had him, I had him at about five, but
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, he dismantled a whole generation's goat whatever
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: and never was Michael.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I don't have a comment on that.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: But just just surgically picked him apart, like, oh man,
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: it was just rough. It was like, you know, the
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: Clippers of the nineties going against like the Lakers of
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: the eighties or something like. It was just it was
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: like Michael Oli Kandy, he turns Drake into Michael Olowa
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: Kandi bro. You know what I'm saying. Like it's a
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: basketball reference and not a lot of people are gonna
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: get number one overall.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Pick went to the Clippers, big old.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: But Kwanmie Brown is ass right, you know, Kobe to
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: Kwame Right anyway.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Oh, I got a question for you, rap. So you
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: do radio every day?
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: We can't curse on the radio, correct, Like we can't
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: say fuck.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: So if you know us, if you're playing a song on.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: The radio and the word fuck is coming up, and
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: you know it's coming up, you have you've said it
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: in your mind, like this word is coming up, so
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: I have to take that out right right, Okay, So
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: the same thing will be applied to the in word.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: If you know the in word is coming up, then
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: you've said it in your brain to mute it out loud.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Does that make sense? Yeah, see that's what I thought.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Jeremy Heck doesn't think. So he thinks that he can
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: mute inwards in.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: His head, so he says it out of his mouth.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: No, he doesn't say it at all, but he said
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: that he can't mute. He said that he doesn't say
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: it at all, even in his break he's lying.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: That's what I said.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: You have to say the in word in your mind
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: in order to stop yourself.
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: Yeah, while I'm rapping songs, I definitely self edit.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: But like you have to say the word in your mind,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: the inwards.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: Flying in my head. I'll tell you what you're not.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: You're not gonna tell me when when Trinidad James allgoed,
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: everything is on the nd word ain't flying in my head,
