- 0:11Hello, friends. It's Sean here and it's Friday.
- 0:15It's the 14th of March. Well done.
- 0:18I'm making it to the end of the week.
- 0:19Good on you. Thanks for your company.
- 0:22And here I sit with a little bit of an ethical dilemma and maybe
- 0:25you can help me. What would you do if your very
- 0:28first original Regimental Sergeant Major, that is the
- 0:31soldier that everyone looks at with terror in their hearts
- 0:35because he is the guy that pulls everyone into line?
- 0:38What if this guy discovered your podcast and asked you for a
- 0:42shout out? Would you give him one?
- 0:45Well, you know, even though he might have celebrated a birthday
- 0:49this week, and even though he was the one that pretty much
- 0:52taught me most of what I know about soldiering, like how to
- 0:54iron my uniform in March. And even though he's an absolute
- 0:58legend and I will forever be grateful for him for taking me
- 1:02under his wing when I first joined up.
- 1:05Yeah, I don't think I can give him a shout out.
- 1:07Yeah, sorry, Joel. Can't do it.
- 1:09Ah, yes. Just as life is full of these
- 1:12ethical little challenges, isn't it great that we can come to
- 1:16God's Word, open it to the Proverbs?
- 1:18And here are proverb after proverb after proverb of God's
- 1:22wisdom helping us through the tricky times of life.
- 1:26And today we are going to crack open the next chapter, Proverbs
- 1:29Chapter 11, and read through six of these proverbs to hear a bit
- 1:33of God's wisdom speaking through the ages to our life.
- 1:37So join me friends, as we read together Proverbs 11 verses 1:00
- 1:41to 6:00. The Lord detests the use of
- 1:55dishonest scales, but he delights and accurate weights.
- 2:01Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
- 2:09Honesty guides good people. Dishonesty destroys treacherous
- 2:14people. Riches won't help on the day of
- 2:19judgement, but right living can save you from death.
- 2:26The godly are directed by honesty.
- 2:29The wicked fall beneath their load of sin, the godliness of
- 2:36good people rescues them, and ambition of treacherous people
- 2:41traps them. Oh, there is so much in these
- 2:54proverbs. Lord, thank you.
- 2:57Thank you for your gift of wisdom.
- 2:58We can go back and listen to them again and again and again,
- 3:01and shape our lives just on these six.
- 3:05But Lord, here we hear you tell us that riches are no good to us
- 3:12on the day of judgement, that it doesn't matter how successful or
- 3:16it doesn't matter how much stuff we accumulate, even though
- 3:19that's what the world screams at us more and more, richer,
- 3:23better. Ultimately that's worth nothing
- 3:28in your eyes and in the reality of eternity.
- 3:33But it's right, living and being aligned to You and your grace in
- 3:40our lives, that ultimately does save us from death.
- 3:44No, not death in this body, but make sure that our soul stays
- 3:49with you from today all the way through into eternity.
- 3:55So Lord, as this world tells us to be richer and more successful
- 4:00and gather more things into our larger and larger and fancier
- 4:05homes and drive them around in our prettier cars, our Lord,
- 4:09shift our focus above all of the din to see you and your ways and
- 4:16your love and Your grace for us so that every day we can walk
- 4:21according to the beat of your drum, sharing your love and
- 4:26knowing that ultimately we are so loved every step of the way.
- 4:32So we lift you up, our wonderful, glorious God, and we
- 4:35praise you, and we thank you for first loving us in Jesus name,
- 4:41Amen.
