- 0:00Speaker 1: Donald Donald. If you're not recording, I am going to
- 0:03Speaker 1: squeeze your balls.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well I've been recording since for like three minutes in
- 0:08Speaker 2: seventeen seconds, so there, okay, no ball squeeze. Here we go, Sorr,
- 0:11Speaker 2: hello to me.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hello everyone?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Three? Wait, three two.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Here's some stories about Shure. We made about a bunch
- 0:22Speaker 3: of you said, here's a story, so YadA YadA.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Here Hello everyone.
- 0:41Speaker 2: My name is Zach braf Hi, I'm Tonald Faison.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And I can't believe it. But guess what, guys, We're
- 0:46Speaker 1: gonna do a scrubs rewatch podcast.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's exactly what we're doing. Dude, your voice changed
- 0:52Speaker 2: completely all of a sudden. We were all talking normal,
- 0:55Speaker 2: I know my podcast started. We're like, hey everyone, it
- 0:57Speaker 2: is I.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I got nervous and I I felt like I should
- 1:00Speaker 1: sound like a radio broadcaster. But no, okay, I'm back
- 1:03Speaker 1: to me.
- 1:04Speaker 2: There we go. This is pretty exciting, IM.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, I'm very excited that we've been
- 1:10Speaker 1: talking about this for a long time. We've been trying
- 1:13Speaker 1: to figure it out. I've been teasing social media, as
- 1:16Speaker 1: have you been.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Oh, you've been teasing social media a little bit more
- 1:21Speaker 2: than I have.
- 1:21Speaker 1: But I know because I wanted to get people tittilated. Donald,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I wanted to titillate the masses.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Well, let's thank iHeartRadio first of all for putting this
- 1:29Speaker 2: and helping us Pat Desault.
- 1:30Speaker 1: We had to figure out who to do it, and
- 1:31Speaker 1: we found a perfect partner with iHeart, and we want
- 1:34Speaker 1: to thank them. And also we want to thank the
- 1:36Speaker 1: fans across the universe, because I just think it's to
- 1:39Speaker 1: be crazy for us not to start with saying we
- 1:42Speaker 1: wouldn't be doing this if it weren't for the just
- 1:45Speaker 1: incredibly loyal, amazing fan base we have around the earth,
- 1:49Speaker 1: right Donal.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Thank you very much, all of you who watched the
- 1:52Speaker 2: show and who are listening to this podcast right now. Wow,
- 1:55Speaker 2: we appreciate you so much. Thank you so much.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you. I mean, this has been so many
- 1:59Speaker 1: years of love for this show. And you know it's funny.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I'm sure Donald, you have this experience too, where people
- 2:04Speaker 1: come up to the street like I'm sure this is
- 2:05Speaker 1: so annoying, but I just want to say I love
- 2:07Speaker 1: the show, and I'm like I'm always like, it's not annoying.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? That's like the best comment you
- 2:10Speaker 1: can give us.
- 2:11Speaker 4: So.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Well, it's annoying when you're eating food, maybe eating food,
- 2:14Speaker 2: and somebody comes up to you and they're like, sorry
- 2:16Speaker 2: to bother you. You know, at first, why are you
- 2:18Speaker 2: saying sorry to bother you? You're not sorry to bother me.
- 2:21Speaker 2: You meant to bother me at that moment, you know
- 2:23Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, just guys, if you're gonna see Donald in public,
- 2:26Speaker 1: don't do it while he's eating.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Maybe just or with my kids. I don't play that.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, all right, we'll just wait outside the restaurant
- 2:31Speaker 1: for me in a dark in a dark alley.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how I prefer people to approach me, in
- 2:39Speaker 2: a dark galley.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I also, my only request is not online at the
- 2:43Speaker 1: pharmacy because I'm usually sick and I don't want to.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I once had a guy ask me to sign his
- 2:50Speaker 1: box of condoms at a pharmacy, and uh, I just no.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I was like, dude, this is weird. I don't want
- 2:56Speaker 1: to sign it. Anyway. We've already digressed. We love our
- 3:00Speaker 1: fans and we're so glad you're listening. So the rough
- 3:03Speaker 1: plan is that we're just gonna talk through episodes of Scrubs.
- 3:06Speaker 1: We're going to start with with season one. Obviously, today
- 3:09Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about the pilot and we're going to
- 3:11Speaker 1: just kind of tell stories and go through it scene
- 3:14Speaker 1: by scene and just kind of tell anecdotes and stuff,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and then eventually we want to have guests on we're
- 3:18Speaker 1: going to Today we're going to take a very first
- 3:20Speaker 1: fan question, which is thrilling. Joelle figured out how to
- 3:23Speaker 1: do that. She's amazing.
- 3:25Speaker 2: We're really excited about this. We should start. Do you
- 3:27Speaker 2: remember the name of the pilot what the first episode was?
- 3:31Speaker 4: No?
- 3:32Speaker 1: Wait, I just want to tell them one more thing.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So we were going to do this in person, but then,
- 3:36Speaker 1: of course, because of this COVID insanity, the good people
- 3:40Speaker 1: of iHeart have figured out a way for a donalin
- 3:42Speaker 1: Us to do it remotely. So we're he's we're looking
- 3:45Speaker 1: at each other over zoom, and he's in his closet,
- 3:47Speaker 1: which is freaking hilarious because I guess that's what the
- 3:50Speaker 1: only place you could hide from your kids.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, well, yeah, they're downstairs. We put on Captain underpants
- 3:54Speaker 2: so they'll be quiet for a bit. But if you
- 3:56Speaker 2: hear someone yelling or screaming, it's probably going to be
- 3:59Speaker 2: my on Rocco or my daughter Wilder.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm going to take a picture of this to post
- 4:03Speaker 1: on the interwebs because it's very adorable.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Right, well, let me get my let me get a
- 4:08Speaker 2: fresh pose.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Then, oh my god, you're so cute. All right, So
- 4:10Speaker 1: Donald has children and a wife and everyone's in quarantine.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So he's in his closet recording and we're looking at
- 4:19Speaker 1: each other. So we're gonna do it like this, and
- 4:22Speaker 1: for the foreseeable future, every week we'll be coming to
- 4:25Speaker 1: you talking about the next episode of the show, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: we'll hope that you'll watch it along with us, because
- 4:30Speaker 1: that's kind of the idea if you if you watch
- 4:32Speaker 1: that episode, and then we'll shoot the shit about that episode.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I just watched it. I got very nostalgic. Did you
- 4:39Speaker 1: did you feel nostalgia?
- 4:41Speaker 2: Well, yeah, just how young we were. First of all, Oh,
- 4:44Speaker 2: we were so young.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Were so young. I didn't remember how young I was.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I was twenty six at the time and I'm forty five,
- 4:53Speaker 2: turning forty six this year, and it was that was
- 4:56Speaker 2: twenty years ago. So you know, watching a pilot for
- 4:59Speaker 2: the first I really felt like it was brand new,
- 5:02Speaker 2: Like I remembered some things but other things, I was like,
- 5:05Speaker 2: I don't remember any of this, you know. I remember
- 5:09Speaker 2: certain poses that John c McGinley made, like when he
- 5:13Speaker 2: put his hand on the back of his head and
- 5:14Speaker 2: stuff like that. I remember being like, Wow, that's interesting
- 5:17Speaker 2: that he chose to do that right now, and as
- 5:20Speaker 2: the show goes on it became his doctor Cox stuff.
- 5:24Speaker 2: But while we while watching it for the first time,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I was like, Oh my god, this is where it
- 5:27Speaker 2: all originated. This is where this is where this came from.
- 5:31Speaker 1: There were so many moments I had while watching it
- 5:32Speaker 1: too where I was like thinking, first of all, we
- 5:35Speaker 1: can't start off even even five minutes of this without
- 5:38Speaker 1: talking about Bill Lawrence, who is the creator of the show,
- 5:41Speaker 1: the reason we're all here talking. And I was just
- 5:44Speaker 1: amazed watching it how much Bill got it it's like
- 5:47Speaker 1: twenty three minutes long, and how much he was able
- 5:50Speaker 1: how much storytelling and character introduction. Pilots are always hard
- 5:54Speaker 1: because you know, you have the showrunner creator has such
- 5:57Speaker 1: a hard job to introduce so many characters and do
- 6:00Speaker 1: it in twenty three minutes, and it's just amazing how
- 6:03Speaker 1: much how many characters are introduced, how many storylines and
- 6:07Speaker 1: like love interests, are introduced. How much is packed into
- 6:09Speaker 1: one episode?
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's some of those. I have questions for you,
- 6:12Speaker 2: as a matter of fact, just on you know, how
- 6:16Speaker 2: the whole pilot came together and everything.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Well wait, let's start with that. Sorry, I don't interrupt you,
- 6:20Speaker 1: but let's start with cal I feel like we should
- 6:22Speaker 1: tell our stories about auditioning because that's.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that was my first question for you. So
- 6:27Speaker 2: when we first started the pilot, I had already done
- 6:31Speaker 2: quite a few things, Like I was in clueless. I
- 6:33Speaker 2: had done remember the Titans already waiting to exhale. I
- 6:36Speaker 2: was guest starring on Felicity at the time, right, and
- 6:39Speaker 2: this was a pilot that came up for me, and
- 6:41Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, sure, I'll go out for it.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I'd love to go out for it. Anybody wants to
- 6:44Speaker 2: be on a show. And it wasn't until after I
- 6:46Speaker 2: auditioned for it and got it that everybody was like,
- 6:49Speaker 2: all my I remember all of my agents being like,
- 6:51Speaker 2: this is like the number one pilot of the season.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Everyone wanted to be a part of this, and you
- 6:55Speaker 2: booked it. And now I remember being like, holy cow.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I was just looking at it as let me get
- 6:59Speaker 2: another job because I got kids to feet, you know
- 7:01Speaker 2: what I mean. You were completely different. You were like
- 7:04Speaker 2: I mean, I know you had been in some things
- 7:06Speaker 2: and stuff like that, but you hadn't even really popped yet.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah. I'd done little things, you know. I'd been in
- 7:10Speaker 1: an indie. I was in an indie, A couple of indies,
- 7:12Speaker 1: one called the Broken Hearts Club that went to sun Dance,
- 7:14Speaker 1: but I was still waiting tables. I directed that, by
- 7:16Speaker 1: the way, a now superstar famous person named Greg Borlani.
- 7:20Speaker 1: It was his very first film and he he gave
- 7:24Speaker 1: me one of my first early big breaks being in
- 7:26Speaker 1: that movie. And I was a waiter at a French
- 7:28Speaker 1: Vietnamese restaurant in Beverly Hills, com and people who you know,
- 7:35Speaker 1: if you saw Garden State, my film, I'm kind of
- 7:38Speaker 1: spoofing that in the beginning when I'm working with a
- 7:40Speaker 1: tunic on and waiting on horrible people. But anyway, I
- 7:43Speaker 1: was waiting there and people would come from having Broken
- 7:45Speaker 1: Carts Club was in the theater, and people would come
- 7:48Speaker 1: from the theater and they'd say for dessert to the
- 7:50Speaker 1: restaurant and they'd be like, we just saw your movie,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and I'd be like, oh, cool, thank you, thank you
- 7:55Speaker 1: for going, and they'd be like you were great, and
- 7:57Speaker 1: I go, oh, thank you, thank you so much. Let
- 7:59Speaker 1: me tell you about our specials. And it was like,
- 8:03Speaker 1: only in Hollywood can you go see a movie and
- 8:05Speaker 1: then have the star of the movie wait on you
- 8:07Speaker 1: for dessert.
- 8:07Speaker 2: But how did you feel about that? Were you ever
- 8:09Speaker 2: embarrassed by it?
- 8:10Speaker 5: Oh?
- 8:10Speaker 1: I was so embarrassed. I remember I would go to
- 8:12Speaker 1: like a general meeting in Hollywood, of these things called
- 8:14Speaker 1: general meetings where you kind of go and like you're
- 8:15Speaker 1: like bragging that, oh my my career is going so
- 8:17Speaker 1: well and we should really work together, and you're just
- 8:20Speaker 1: kind of schmoozing. And I remember I did one of
- 8:22Speaker 1: those and like it really went well, and I came
- 8:24Speaker 1: out feeling so good. And then that night I looked
- 8:26Speaker 1: down at one of my tables and the guy was
- 8:28Speaker 1: at the table, and I didn't I had left out
- 8:31Speaker 1: the part how I was still, you know, hustling and
- 8:34Speaker 1: waiting tables. But so you know, I got the audition.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I was waiting tables. I got the audition. Now my
- 8:42Speaker 1: story is a little funny because I went out first
- 8:44Speaker 1: for it in New York. I happened to be in
- 8:46Speaker 1: New York and I didn't prepare. It went so poorly.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I hadn't read the script. You know, not every audition
- 8:52Speaker 1: do you go in killing it. And I didn't do
- 8:55Speaker 1: a good job. And when I got back to La,
- 8:59Speaker 1: my agent said, look, they still can't find this guy
- 9:02Speaker 1: for the show. And it's really, like you said, everyone's
- 9:04Speaker 1: talking about it. This is like one of the hot
- 9:05Speaker 1: new shows of the season. You you I think you
- 9:07Speaker 1: could just go back in, like they won't even know,
- 9:09Speaker 1: like your audition, I don't even They were like, I
- 9:11Speaker 1: don't even know if your tape made it from New York,
- 9:13Speaker 1: like because no one was no one, no one even
- 9:15Speaker 1: responded to whatever the fuck you did. So I this time,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I took it seriously. I memorized that I worked on it.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I practiced a lot, and then when I went in.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I remember the cast director Brett Right. I was yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 1: he looked up at me like, oh okay, like with
- 9:31Speaker 1: a smile. And then it was off to the races.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And then I met Bill and I worked with Bill,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and and then you know, I literally auditioned six times
- 9:41Speaker 1: before I got it, and finally my final audition was
- 9:45Speaker 1: for the network and it was down between four of us,
- 9:48Speaker 1: and I read with Sarah and I you know, I
- 9:52Speaker 1: had comitten six times. I wore the exact same outfit
- 9:55Speaker 1: every single time because I was so superstitious and and
- 9:58Speaker 1: I could really tell that Bill was rooting for me.
- 9:59Speaker 1: He he made it known to me that he wanted
- 10:02Speaker 1: me to get it. But there were a lot of
- 10:04Speaker 1: you know, people that were more famous than me, that
- 10:06Speaker 1: were that were I mean that were famous, that were
- 10:08Speaker 1: up for it. So I couldn't I couldn't leave. I
- 10:10Speaker 1: got it. But anyway, so tell me, tell me about
- 10:12Speaker 1: your audition.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Brother. So I auditioned for it. The first time I
- 10:14Speaker 2: auditioned for it. I don't know who was in the room,
- 10:16Speaker 2: to be honest with you. I just auditioned and they
- 10:19Speaker 2: were like, they want to bring you back. And then
- 10:21Speaker 2: I came back and I auditioned again, and this time
- 10:23Speaker 2: Bill was there. And I remember being like, okay, you know,
- 10:28Speaker 2: at this point in my career, it was like, I'm
- 10:30Speaker 2: just going to audition for things as many times as
- 10:32Speaker 2: I can until they say yes, you know what I mean,
- 10:34Speaker 2: or till they say no. And I remember they were like,
- 10:38Speaker 2: all right, look, you're going to test for this, but
- 10:40Speaker 2: they want you to go in for one more audition
- 10:42Speaker 2: before that, just to run lines with Bill and work
- 10:44Speaker 2: on the jokes and stuff. And I was like, yeah, absolutely.
- 10:48Speaker 2: The one thing I remembered to this day he still
- 10:51Speaker 2: liked this, if Bill wants the joke to work, he'll laugh.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Even if it fell flat, He'll still laugh. To give
- 10:58Speaker 2: you the confidence of yo, dude, that's the joke. That's
- 11:02Speaker 2: where the joke lands. Right.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 2: So we went into the room and we're working on it,
- 11:07Speaker 2: and he's laughing at everything, and I'm like, oh, I'm
- 11:09Speaker 2: crushing it. And then after every take he'd be like,
- 11:11Speaker 2: all right, now, let's work on this beat. And I
- 11:14Speaker 2: remember it was him and Danny Rose at the time.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Danny Rose was another one of At.
- 11:20Speaker 1: The time, he was Bill's assistant, but then he rose
- 11:23Speaker 1: up in the ranks and became a producer on the show.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Right, And so we did it, and then he was like,
- 11:29Speaker 2: all right, good luck tomorrow. And I was like all right, bet.
- 11:32Speaker 2: And so I went on the audition and I saw
- 11:33Speaker 2: a bunch of friends of mine auditioning, and Sarah was there,
- 11:37Speaker 2: and you know, we were there for about an hour
- 11:40Speaker 2: and a half, all of us testing in front of
- 11:42Speaker 2: the network, and I remember at one point, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 2: we're all sitting out there for a while and they
- 11:49Speaker 2: hadn't come out in a bit, and Bill comes out.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It's like, Donald, I need to talk to you real quick.
- 11:53Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, well, I guess I'm the
- 11:55Speaker 2: first person to go home. And he says, so, look,
- 12:00Speaker 2: your audition you probably could tell already, but you you
- 12:03Speaker 2: kind of fucked it up. So and so you know,
- 12:09Speaker 2: I want to give you another shot because the things
- 12:11Speaker 2: that I've seen you do, you just didn't do that
- 12:15Speaker 2: time in the room, And so if you could just
- 12:17Speaker 2: bring it down a little bit, and do you.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Agree with him? Did you think you did you agree
- 12:21Speaker 1: with them? And think like, oh shit, I was so nervous,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and He's right.
- 12:24Speaker 2: No, I thought I was crushing it. I was doing
- 12:26Speaker 2: everything that we I thought I was doing everything that
- 12:28Speaker 2: we had done in the rehearsal right. So finally I
- 12:32Speaker 2: go in there and I remember toning everything down and
- 12:36Speaker 2: him being like perfect and then leaving and he sent
- 12:40Speaker 2: everybody home except for Sarah, myself and one other person.
- 12:45Speaker 2: And that night I found out I got the job. Wow,
- 12:48Speaker 2: you know what I mean? And you know when I
- 12:50Speaker 2: went in on the audition. I expected to see the
- 12:52Speaker 2: guy that he had kept. You know, it was me,
- 12:55Speaker 2: Sarah and this one guy, and we were like, holy cow,
- 12:57Speaker 2: I guess we got it right. And uh, I expected
- 13:02Speaker 2: to see the guy at the table read and you
- 13:04Speaker 2: walked in. I was like, that's not the same dude.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Wait, so I knew who you were, obviously, but because.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I loved I had not seen anything you were in.
- 13:14Speaker 1: No, No, you wouldn't. I didn't mean to say that
- 13:18Speaker 1: you'd seen my two little indies. I just mean, like,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I guess I don't know what my question is. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: mean like you even seeing a picture of me, you
- 13:24Speaker 1: didn't even know anything about me.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You just knew nothing about you. You knew what you knew.
- 13:27Speaker 1: An unknown guy got the part at least right.
- 13:29Speaker 2: I feel like I remember what you wore to a
- 13:31Speaker 2: table read, though, I feel like you wore corduroy brown pants.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I couldn't believe that you would remember this and a
- 13:38Speaker 2: T shirt. And we met at the bar. While I
- 13:40Speaker 2: remember this, I.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Remember I was writing this down in my notes. First
- 13:43Speaker 1: of all, it was that Krista Miller's and Bill's old house.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And Charlotte Lawrence had just been born.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Charlotte Lawrence was a baby, and we walked into I
- 13:54Speaker 1: remember it was a sunken living room and there was
- 13:57Speaker 1: a bar in the corner. And then you turned her
- 14:00Speaker 1: and were like, gave me this big smile and we
- 14:02Speaker 1: were like yeah, body like, and I was like, it
- 14:06Speaker 1: literally was love at first sight, right, I just felt
- 14:09Speaker 1: I was so nervous. If understand, I mean, I knew
- 14:11Speaker 1: you were obviously I knew John McGinley was. I had
- 14:14Speaker 1: met Sarah at my audition, but like I was, you
- 14:16Speaker 1: can imagine. I mean, we're all nervous no matter who
- 14:18Speaker 1: you are, but I was because because also people do
- 14:20Speaker 1: get fired after the table read, so you know you're like,
- 14:23Speaker 1: You're like, I mostly have it, but I really got
- 14:25Speaker 1: to make sure I keep it. And uh and then
- 14:27Speaker 1: I saw you and you were so warm and and
- 14:29Speaker 1: and I think we hugged.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I think the first time, I know, we did.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Hug Yeah, the first time we met, we hugged.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Well that's that's that was the That was the crazy.
- 14:37Speaker 2: The craziest thing was I remember not knowing who you
- 14:40Speaker 2: were and being like, all right, they were and Bill
- 14:42Speaker 2: was like, let's start the table read. And I remember
- 14:46Speaker 2: being nervous for myself. And then you started reading, and
- 14:52Speaker 2: all of a sudden, the jokes that I didn't see
- 14:54Speaker 2: in the script when I read it, all of a
- 14:56Speaker 2: sudden started to appear because you were knocking out knocking
- 14:59Speaker 2: it out of the and everybody was laughing and you know,
- 15:03Speaker 2: really excited. So when it was my time to come
- 15:06Speaker 2: and I was like, yeah, the energy was there, and
- 15:08Speaker 2: you know what I mean. I just remember being like,
- 15:10Speaker 2: holy cow, this kid is amazing. And I remember being
- 15:14Speaker 2: like this could actually turn into something. This is at
- 15:18Speaker 2: the table read. I remember being like, this could be
- 15:20Speaker 2: something special. My agents weren't lying when they told me
- 15:24Speaker 2: this was the one.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, man, I remember that special feeling too. I
- 15:28Speaker 1: also wanted to say that I when I drove home
- 15:31Speaker 1: from my test, I had a star Tech. I had
- 15:33Speaker 1: the Motorola star Tech.
- 15:34Speaker 2: You remember that, Yeah, yeah, the two ways.
- 15:37Speaker 1: No, No, the star Tech was the little flip phone,
- 15:39Speaker 1: the little black flip phone back in the day.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Oh I don't know.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Anyways, I had my little I had my little I
- 15:44Speaker 1: had my little flip phone and I put it on
- 15:46Speaker 1: the passenger seat as I was driving home from the
- 15:48Speaker 1: network test, and I'm just waiting to see if it
- 15:50Speaker 1: was gonna ring, and like, is my life about to
- 15:54Speaker 1: change substantially or not? And the phone rang. It was Bill.
- 15:58Speaker 1: He told me I got the part. And I was
- 16:01Speaker 1: just flipping out. I mean, I had no money. I
- 16:03Speaker 1: didn't have a dollar in my name. I you know,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I was living.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Oh dude, who are you telling? Man? I had kids.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I bought a house with all of this clueless money
- 16:11Speaker 2: that I had, And you know what I mean, I
- 16:13Speaker 2: thought I was going to be a baller. And I
- 16:15Speaker 2: remember having to call home and beg my mom for
- 16:18Speaker 2: money so I could get gas to go on these auditions.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Oh you know what I mean. Because I was broke,
- 16:23Speaker 1: my parents loaned me five thousand dollars to buy a
- 16:26Speaker 1: car out in La so I bought a car. I
- 16:28Speaker 1: bought a Nissan to forty SX. I remember that, which
- 16:31Speaker 1: did me really really well. And and then I was just,
- 16:34Speaker 1: you know, living off my waiters salary. But I got
- 16:37Speaker 1: the call from Bill. I freak out. I called my mom,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I called my dad, and then I called the manager
- 16:42Speaker 1: of the restaurant, who was amazingly supportive of me, and
- 16:44Speaker 1: she was she was an actress herself, and she was like,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I'm so happy for you congratulations and I was like, well,
- 16:49Speaker 1: I quit and she was like wait, wait, wait, I'll
- 16:54Speaker 1: never forget that. She was like, work tonight. I was
- 16:58Speaker 1: like what now. She's like, you have to work tonight
- 17:00Speaker 1: and I was like I do. She's like, babe, you
- 17:03Speaker 1: can't leave me hanging like that. You gotta work tonight.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I was like, I was like, oh, I'll work tonight.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And I just got I like I had hammered. People
- 17:09Speaker 1: were like waiting on me, like, you know, because it
- 17:10Speaker 1: was one of those restaurant where people were like really
- 17:12Speaker 1: do shee and like sir, and I'd be like, just
- 17:14Speaker 1: wait your turn, you know.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I was like.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Everybody, everybody calm down, all right, Yours Vietnamese food is
- 17:22Speaker 4: coming right on.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I remember after we shot the pilot, just to jump
- 17:27Speaker 2: ahead and having to wait for so long for the
- 17:29Speaker 2: show to get picked up, right and running into you
- 17:32Speaker 2: at a club and you being out of your mind blitzed.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's probably what happened. I could never get
- 17:40Speaker 1: into the club, like I went like and the classic
- 17:42Speaker 1: thing with like the red velvet ropes and like I
- 17:45Speaker 1: can't even picture like me being on line at the
- 17:47Speaker 1: club being like all right, I'm going out to a
- 17:49Speaker 1: nightclub tonight because I got some money in my pocket
- 17:51Speaker 1: and was like, I picture, I see like Donald going in,
- 17:54Speaker 1: like the guys, like the bouncers, like part the red
- 17:56Speaker 1: velvet ropes is Donald. Then his posse gets gets led
- 17:59Speaker 1: into the club, and then I get in and I
- 18:01Speaker 1: saw you. I remember, I remember the first night I
- 18:03Speaker 1: saw you, like out in the real world, and I
- 18:05Speaker 1: like screamed because I was like, dude, you.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Was so loud and he was so drunk. It was
- 18:09Speaker 2: so funny.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Well, I had to celebrate.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So let's get let's get back to the Let's get
- 18:13Speaker 2: back to.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Let's talk about the pilot now. The first thing I
- 18:15Speaker 1: want to see about the pilot. The first thing I
- 18:17Speaker 1: noticed is that that's not the hospital right that the
- 18:22Speaker 1: pilot for Scrubs was filmed. We filmed technically in three spots.
- 18:26Speaker 1: The pilot was filmed in a Burbank hospital, and this
- 18:31Speaker 1: one that they show it in the exterior is actually
- 18:33Speaker 1: not even that. It's just a different hospital. But then
- 18:35Speaker 1: we shot the bulk of the series at a hospital
- 18:38Speaker 1: in Valley Village, which is now apartments. And then season nine,
- 18:43Speaker 1: which we'll have plenty of jokes about, was shot actually
- 18:46Speaker 1: on a back lot on stages, But the bulk of
- 18:50Speaker 1: the show, the one that that you all know and love,
- 18:53Speaker 1: was shot all inside a real hospital. And I'm sure
- 18:56Speaker 1: not everybody knows that.
- 18:57Speaker 2: It was a real hospital. Remember the sound man saying
- 19:01Speaker 2: something about, you know, I think when we did the pilot,
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'm not sure if I'm not sure if it was
- 19:06Speaker 2: the pilot or the actual series, but I think it
- 19:09Speaker 2: was the pilot saying, you know what, I'm gonna set
- 19:12Speaker 2: up in this room because this is the room that
- 19:13Speaker 2: my father died in or something. Really, yeah, that's so dark.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Our dressing rooms, you know. You know you've seen a
- 19:19Speaker 1: lot of times on sets that people have trailers their
- 19:22Speaker 1: dressing rooms. Well, our dressing rooms were hospital rooms. For
- 19:24Speaker 1: for eight and a half years that we worked at
- 19:28Speaker 1: this hospital, we lived and did everything inside this hospital.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I mean, our dressingrooms were in the hospital, the makeup
- 19:34Speaker 1: rooms in the hospital, offices were in this hospital. The editing,
- 19:38Speaker 1: the writer's room, everything, all the other sets, like you know,
- 19:41Speaker 1: whether it was the inside of a bar or our apartment,
- 19:44Speaker 1: all those were built into this really disgusting ancient hospital.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Okay, so I want to talk about the first scene
- 19:54Speaker 2: where you wake up and it's time to that. Was
- 19:57Speaker 2: that a reshoot?
- 19:58Speaker 1: No, it was not reshoot. I think it was done
- 20:01Speaker 1: like after the fact. Thing is probably one of the
- 20:02Speaker 1: last things we did. I do remember thinking that I
- 20:04Speaker 1: didn't think this was funny, this this whole shaving cream thing.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It turned out to be really funny.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Well that's Bill. Bill turned it into something. I remember
- 20:12Speaker 1: thinking like, what, why would I be doing this? Why
- 20:17Speaker 1: would I, on my first day so nervous, be making
- 20:19Speaker 1: a shaving cream bra.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Or being like a warrior, a warrior.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Like how young I am. I'm just scrolling through because
- 20:30Speaker 1: I like to just reference it. But anyway, I didn't
- 20:32Speaker 1: think it was funny at the time, but then I
- 20:34Speaker 1: saw and I remember thinking, yeah, that was that.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Was clever, okay. And then the scene where you walk
- 20:39Speaker 2: into the hospital and the lady gives you all of
- 20:42Speaker 2: this energy about what's gonna happen today, et cetera, et cetera,
- 20:46Speaker 2: and then you not really knowing where to go.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, this was one thing I'll hear me
- 20:52Speaker 1: say over and over again was and Bill always said
- 20:54Speaker 1: this was like, there's no person better to play someone
- 20:56Speaker 1: young and in over their head than me. Because here
- 20:59Speaker 1: I was. I didn't know anything of I mean, it
- 21:01Speaker 1: was all method acting. I didn't know anything about starring
- 21:03Speaker 1: in a TV show. I didn't know anything about like
- 21:06Speaker 1: I mean, I knew I had some experience, but every
- 21:08Speaker 1: time I was playing the wide eyed guy walking around,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I was just being mean because I couldn't believe that
- 21:12Speaker 1: this was happening to me. You know, it was the
- 21:14Speaker 1: exact same life that I was living.
- 21:16Speaker 2: You know what, speaking of wide eyed. Before we started
- 21:19Speaker 2: the pilot, they wanted us to all go on rounds
- 21:22Speaker 2: with doctors and stuff like that. Right I did that,
- 21:24Speaker 2: But right I did not. I opted out. I was like,
- 21:27Speaker 2: get the fuck out here. I'm not doing that shit.
- 21:28Speaker 2: I don't want to see any of this.
- 21:31Speaker 1: But meanwhile I'm like, I'm like the diligent student who's like,
- 21:33Speaker 1: all right, send me out right.
- 21:35Speaker 2: I remember getting on the phone with the young lady
- 21:38Speaker 2: who was my contact that was going to take me
- 21:41Speaker 2: around on rounds, and her being like, so you're coming
- 21:43Speaker 2: down to night, and me being like, yeah about that. No,
- 21:45Speaker 2: I don't see myself ever doing this. If you could
- 21:49Speaker 2: just tell me some anecdotes, i'd be great.
- 21:51Speaker 1: But yeah, I was the exact I was like the
- 21:53Speaker 1: good student.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I was like, did you see anything crazy? No?
- 21:55Speaker 1: But I remember thinking was really inappropriate actually that she
- 21:59Speaker 1: was having me like go around, like to visit patients
- 22:02Speaker 1: with her, Like she she put a stethoscope around my
- 22:04Speaker 1: neck so I would look like legit, like I know,
- 22:08Speaker 1: it's kind of fucked up in hindsight, like I should
- 22:10Speaker 1: not have been doing that. But did she ever refer
- 22:12Speaker 1: to you like, no, not, because she she was just
- 22:14Speaker 1: treating me like I was like I was a medical student,
- 22:18Speaker 1: and she wasn't doing what she should have done, which
- 22:20Speaker 1: is being like, hey, is it okay there's someone who's
- 22:22Speaker 1: an actor researching apart. She wasn't doing that. I was
- 22:25Speaker 1: just going in and being like, hey, how's a guy's going.
- 22:29Speaker 1: And she'd kind of like and the people would be
- 22:31Speaker 1: like looking at her, and then they like they nod
- 22:33Speaker 1: to me, and I'm like I would just be nodding.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I remember, I was just I was just kind of
- 22:36Speaker 1: had like a serious nod on my face, like I
- 22:38Speaker 1: was listening and understanding what's going on. I want to
- 22:48Speaker 1: talk about the title sequence because that's the next thing
- 22:51Speaker 1: that comes up.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I was gonna ask you about that too, man, dude,
- 22:54Speaker 2: how much did you hate that until you saw it.
- 22:56Speaker 2: That's one of those things where I was like, this
- 22:58Speaker 2: is sucks. Man.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It took for those of you who don't know, it's
- 23:01Speaker 1: a motion control camera, and it really took a long
- 23:04Speaker 1: time to do that, and at the time we didn't
- 23:07Speaker 1: know how cool it would look, so it was like
- 23:08Speaker 1: it took like a full day to do it, and
- 23:10Speaker 1: I remember we were all kind of really over it
- 23:13Speaker 1: by the end. Then it came out and it was
- 23:15Speaker 1: really fucking cool. And then we've heard this for many
- 23:18Speaker 1: times our whole scrubs existence. But the X ray at
- 23:22Speaker 1: the end is backwards, and every every doctor wanted to
- 23:25Speaker 1: point that out, and we used to be like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 1: that's on purpose. Get it because they're like med students. Yeah,
- 23:32Speaker 1: and they're med students and they don't fully get it.
- 23:35Speaker 1: We're like, no, it wasn't the fucking prop guy fucked
- 23:36Speaker 1: up the ship backwards.
- 23:37Speaker 2: We did. And but we got lucky with that too,
- 23:39Speaker 2: because that kind of set the tone for this offbeat,
- 23:42Speaker 2: wacky show of ours. You know, I know, I know.
- 23:44Speaker 1: But early on in like in like commentary, I remember
- 23:47Speaker 1: everyone being like, the X rays backwards and we were like.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we meant to do it and do it again
- 23:54Speaker 2: when we do it next time.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Do you remember when we a few years in they
- 23:58Speaker 1: tried to redo this sequence.
- 23:59Speaker 2: With Neil wanted to add Neil.
- 24:01Speaker 1: They wanted to add Neil and Neil. Yeah, and and
- 24:05Speaker 1: then so they aired it a few times and the
- 24:06Speaker 1: fan base was like, what the fuck is that open?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Right? No, they weren't having it.
- 24:11Speaker 1: They were not having They were like season nine.
- 24:13Speaker 2: How they weren't having season nine either. But anyway, all right, we.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Digreg um you we have one hundred and eighty episodes.
- 24:19Speaker 2: To get before we digress. We digress.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Wait, and then I want to say that the song
- 24:22Speaker 1: was It was a song I found from a band
- 24:25Speaker 1: called laslow Bane that I was friends with, and I.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Because originally we wanted five for fighting, but that was yeah,
- 24:31Speaker 2: that was the original theme song. It was something like, uh,
- 24:34Speaker 2: I'm more than a bird. We can never use this.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I'm more than a plane.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I think you're allowed to sing a few lines.
- 24:40Speaker 2: More than some superman beside a train. However it goes anyway,
- 24:46Speaker 2: so I can't stand a fly.
- 24:48Speaker 1: My friend, I'm not that nie, right, all right? My
- 24:53Speaker 1: friend Chad Fisher was in this band, and I thought
- 24:55Speaker 1: the lyrics were perfect because it's not only was it
- 24:57Speaker 1: a great song, but it's like what the show's about.
- 25:00Speaker 1: You know, I'm Superman.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Donald, get it, Well, that's the same thing the fire
- 25:03Speaker 2: for Fighting song was about. You just found somebody who
- 25:06Speaker 2: wrote something kind of similar to it.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I can't do it all, Donald, I couldn't do it
- 25:09Speaker 1: all on my own. I needed my friend. I'm moving
- 25:11Speaker 1: a bird. Oh my god, you have such a pretty voice.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Though. I just remember how perfect the song was when
- 25:23Speaker 2: they sang it, and we didn't really necessarily know that
- 25:25Speaker 2: it was going to be the theme song until I
- 25:27Speaker 2: remember you playing it for me and being like dude
- 25:29Speaker 2: and being like, oh, yeah, that's cool. But I didn't
- 25:32Speaker 2: realize it was going to really be the theme song
- 25:34Speaker 2: until we had that first cookout before we started shooting
- 25:37Speaker 2: the show and he sang it with the with the
- 25:42Speaker 2: bullhorn and his boy playing the guitar next to him
- 25:45Speaker 2: and being like, oh, I remember that.
- 25:46Speaker 1: And then we made a music video. If anyby never
- 25:49Speaker 1: saw it, it's kind of cool. I shot a music
- 25:51Speaker 1: video for the song, and I shot all this kind
- 25:54Speaker 1: of cool footage of us. I'm sure it's on YouTube all.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Right, Okay, so let's talk about the first scene with
- 25:59Speaker 2: you and I.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I'm gathering my notes because I did a lot of
- 26:02Speaker 1: prepper I want the fans to know I did a
- 26:04Speaker 1: lot of prep for this right on.
- 26:06Speaker 2: So the first scene with you and I, where we're
- 26:07Speaker 2: talking and Ted the lawyer is explaining to us, you know,
- 26:13Speaker 2: legal procedure in the hospital.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I remember him making up the line and if your
- 26:20Speaker 2: pay if your patient's dead and and you're sure, and
- 26:23Speaker 2: you're sure, And I remember that was when I realized,
- 26:27Speaker 2: oh wow, Bill's gonna let us. He's gonna let us
- 26:30Speaker 2: improv a little bit. Yeah, and opportunities to be funny.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that's one of the things that made
- 26:36Speaker 1: Scrubs really special is that Bill really let everyone kind
- 26:40Speaker 1: of make it their own. I mean, his running rule
- 26:42Speaker 1: through through the whole series was, you know, please get
- 26:45Speaker 1: it the way that it's written first, make sure we've
- 26:48Speaker 1: got it good, and then you guys can play around
- 26:49Speaker 1: and improvise, and if you have some wacky idea, you
- 26:53Speaker 1: can do it. And that was from the get go.
- 26:55Speaker 1: And then he had and he hired all these amazing
- 26:57Speaker 1: people like Sam Lloyd, who plays lawyer.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Who played Ted the lawyer and a.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Little trivia who's Christopher Lloyd's nephew, you know, just hilarious
- 27:07Speaker 1: character actors like that that could that would just bring
- 27:09Speaker 1: all their own and no matter what the size of
- 27:11Speaker 1: the part, you know, from from from our sized part
- 27:14Speaker 1: all the way down to people who had you know,
- 27:16Speaker 1: would have one line an episode, there was so much
- 27:18Speaker 1: freedom to just kind of riff around and make it funny. Yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 1: and we should give a shout out to Adam Bernstein
- 27:24Speaker 1: who directed the pilot. A pily director. Yeah, a pilot
- 27:27Speaker 1: director for those of you who don't know, really sets
- 27:29Speaker 1: the look of the show and the style. You know,
- 27:32Speaker 1: Scrubs has a very specific style with the whippans and
- 27:34Speaker 1: the flashing, the flashbacks and fantasies.
- 27:37Speaker 2: And even the color of the show to make how
- 27:39Speaker 2: it looks so much like a hospital and isn't overly
- 27:44Speaker 2: saturated like a lot of TV shows that deal with
- 27:47Speaker 2: hospital life. They you know, they want their actors to
- 27:52Speaker 2: pop on screens. So the blueser bluer, and the eyes
- 27:56Speaker 2: and the you know what I mean, Scrubs it looked
- 27:59Speaker 2: dingy and dirty in the hospital. In that first episode,
- 28:02Speaker 2: I noticed a lot.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I noticed that it was clearly the thing I noticed,
- 28:04Speaker 1: you know, the whole idea was that it was a
- 28:06Speaker 1: it was a hospital that was had very little money.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And I noticed there's a lot of stuff. You know,
- 28:10Speaker 1: I haven't watched the pilot in how many years? Twenty years,
- 28:14Speaker 1: but I remember I was looking at the ceiling tiles.
- 28:16Speaker 1: There's all these like missing ceiling tiles. Yeah, and it
- 28:18Speaker 1: was and Bill and Adam really made it feel like
- 28:21Speaker 1: a dingy you know, it was not supposed to be
- 28:22Speaker 1: a nice hospital. Also, the show was shot on film,
- 28:25Speaker 1: which a lot of people probably don't know. This was
- 28:27Speaker 1: the entire series was shot on sixteen millimeter film. That's
- 28:31Speaker 1: why there's no blu ray and there's no if you
- 28:33Speaker 1: look at it normally, how it's meant to be seen.
- 28:35Speaker 1: It's a square because it was before high def video
- 28:39Speaker 1: and sixteen by nine televisions, and no one ever like
- 28:43Speaker 1: upres it. So this is all we got. I watched
- 28:46Speaker 1: the iTunes version, which has the original music. Do you
- 28:49Speaker 1: want to explain to them about the music thing?
- 28:51Speaker 2: Hulu doesn't have the original music.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Well, just you know, just because of a question we
- 28:54Speaker 1: get from a lot of fans at times on social media,
- 28:58Speaker 1: all this music that was put on Scrubs and a
- 29:00Speaker 1: lot of people love was licensed before streaming. So these days,
- 29:04Speaker 1: a lot of times if you watch it on Hulu
- 29:06Speaker 1: where it's currently playing, or wherever you're watching it, it
- 29:09Speaker 1: might have some of those songs that you love replaced
- 29:11Speaker 1: because they weren't licensed for streaming rights. iTunes is the
- 29:15Speaker 1: only place or owning the DVDs obviously is the only
- 29:17Speaker 1: place where where all of the original music would be there.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Let's talk about your teeth for a second, because I
- 29:22Speaker 1: don't think we can just let this go.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Oh, I had baby teeth when we started shooting the show.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I don't have baby teeth. And if you spent a
- 29:30Speaker 2: lot of money on new teeth there it is.
- 29:33Speaker 1: If you freeze fames, if you freeze frame. There was
- 29:35Speaker 1: there was a saga of Donald's teeth because he used
- 29:38Speaker 1: to have he had fake braces famously in Clueless.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yes, because they were trying to hide my small teeth.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Go on, oh is that really why?
- 29:46Speaker 2: Absolutely?
- 29:47Speaker 1: Oh, we're getting an exclusive here, so you're selling.
- 29:49Speaker 2: They shave my head and they shaved my head and
- 29:52Speaker 2: Clueless because my hairline was receding at eighteen you know
- 29:55Speaker 2: what I mean? That By the time I was twenty one,
- 29:57Speaker 2: I had this hairline right here that you that I'm well,
- 30:00Speaker 2: you guys can't see it, but I had this.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Uh, by the way, I feel like we're breaking news.
- 30:06Speaker 1: You're famous.
- 30:08Speaker 2: They called me George Jefferson, Okay, because of my hairline?
- 30:12Speaker 3: Are you happy?
- 30:15Speaker 2: Are you happy?
- 30:16Speaker 1: But I never knew that the clueless braces were because
- 30:19Speaker 1: of your fucked up chick lit teeth.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Yes, and then the and then the hats that I
- 30:24Speaker 2: wore and clueless was because of my hairline.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Oh my god, Like I have.
- 30:28Speaker 2: A baby face. I have a baby face. It's a
- 30:30Speaker 2: baby right, Like I have a baby face, but I
- 30:33Speaker 2: don't have a baby's hairline.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Right, I had baby teeth.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I had baby teeth.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Who called you, George Jefferson? Your parents?
- 30:40Speaker 2: No, some like dickhead that I grew up with my parents.
- 30:43Speaker 2: You're an asshole. That'd be hilarious, George, all.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Right, let's go forward with your chicken teeth. Oh and
- 30:49Speaker 1: then and then well, by the way, funny story. So
- 30:51Speaker 1: then one season Donald chose up. He decided on his own.
- 30:55Speaker 2: We could talk about this some other time. We don't
- 30:57Speaker 2: need to talk about this now.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Well, can I just tease it for later.
- 31:00Speaker 2: It tracks, it'll track, all right.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Donald turned up with braces on the inside of his
- 31:04Speaker 1: teeth and had a lisp, and Bill was like, take
- 31:05Speaker 1: your fucking braces off. What the hell you guess?
- 31:07Speaker 2: All right, But there's like six episodes where I'm talking
- 31:11Speaker 2: like this.
- 31:12Speaker 1: The whole and Donald chowse up.
- 31:13Speaker 4: But he's like, I don't Bill, I don't think anyone's
- 31:15Speaker 4: gonna notice. And Bill's like, no one's gonna notice. What
- 31:19Speaker 4: the fuck are you doing? What'd you do? And Donald's like, well,
- 31:23Speaker 4: it's cut brief of but you can't see him because
- 31:25Speaker 4: they're on the in FIVEE in my mouth.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I don't even think that's a funny story, dude.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I think it's hilarious. All right, let's talk about Sarah
- 31:33Speaker 1: Chalk's entrance into the lounge room.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Absolutely done, dun.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Duh, the brilliant and beautiful Sarah Chalk.
- 31:39Speaker 2: So I remember at the audition saying Sarah and being
- 31:43Speaker 2: like that's the girl from Roseanne. Holy cow, yeah second Becky,
- 31:48Speaker 2: and thinking she's definitely gonna get this part because that
- 31:53Speaker 2: was the girl from Roseanne, you know what I mean?
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, I didn't know I knew she was second
- 31:57Speaker 1: Becky was as she jokingly called herself, and people called
- 32:01Speaker 1: her because she had replaced the original Becky, But I
- 32:04Speaker 1: wasn't until I read with her in front of Bill
- 32:06Speaker 1: and then I read whether at my final Studio Network
- 32:09Speaker 1: test that I got to meet her, and I was
- 32:12Speaker 1: just smitten. I just thought she was so funny and
- 32:16Speaker 1: so beautiful, and.
- 32:18Speaker 2: That was one of my notes. Actually, you guys had
- 32:20Speaker 2: such great chemistry in the pilot, and it showed on
- 32:23Speaker 2: screen that, you know. I think that worked for the
- 32:27Speaker 2: remainder of the show because of you know, it's hard
- 32:33Speaker 2: to tell a will they won't they early on in
- 32:37Speaker 2: a pilot, you know what I mean, Like you can
- 32:38Speaker 2: say one person has a crush, but you both kind
- 32:42Speaker 2: of had a chemistry for each other in the pilots,
- 32:45Speaker 2: and it was undeniable, you know what I mean. So
- 32:47Speaker 2: like right away, you knew that at some point you
- 32:52Speaker 2: guys had to get together, you know what I mean.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Even if it didn't work, you knew it. You guys
- 32:56Speaker 2: had to get together.
- 32:57Speaker 1: And then there was that scene where we're in the
- 32:59Speaker 1: staircase I'm supposed to be looking at her butt going
- 33:01Speaker 1: up and saying it looks I never understood why two pringles,
- 33:04Speaker 1: which is what I say, But your butt looks like
- 33:06Speaker 1: two pringles hugging.
- 33:08Speaker 2: I never knew that a curve because it's a little Okay,
- 33:11Speaker 2: so a pringle isn't.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I don't know if it's a compliment for a butt though,
- 33:15Speaker 1: is it.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Was trying to tell me you don't appreciate a round booty.
- 33:21Speaker 1: No, I love a round booty. But I just don't know.
- 33:22Speaker 2: What the hell are you talking about.
- 33:24Speaker 1: But bro, you think you think I would say, like
- 33:26Speaker 1: it looks like a juicy peach, I wouldn't say it
- 33:29Speaker 1: looks like two pringles that are like sharp and breakable.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Okay, let me ask you a question.
- 33:38Speaker 1: How would you describe a nice bottom like to a
- 33:41Speaker 1: piece of food? You choose pringles?
- 33:44Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I'm going, okay, do we need to
- 33:47Speaker 2: get into this. Well, you can into this.
- 33:49Speaker 1: You can say it in a nice correct For a really.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Long time, people of Caucasian colors didn't necessarily like to
- 33:59Speaker 2: have big, round booties, and so a pringle being a
- 34:05Speaker 2: tiny curved chip, if you put them together, they looked
- 34:10Speaker 2: like a little tiny booty.
- 34:13Speaker 1: You're saying because she had a tiny white girl booty.
- 34:15Speaker 1: It was pringly right.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Nowadays because of certain actresses and Instagram models or whatever influence,
- 34:28Speaker 2: everyone and their mama likes a round booty, now a
- 34:31Speaker 2: big round. So you're starting to put fake booties that
- 34:36Speaker 2: are starting to put fake stuff in the buttocks area
- 34:39Speaker 2: to make the booty round. Now, I've heard that some
- 34:42Speaker 2: women really round booties already and decided, yo, you know what,
- 34:46Speaker 2: it ain't round enough and took more to make it bigger.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I have a question for you about this, yes, Now,
- 34:54Speaker 1: is your theory that certain famous influencers have influenced women
- 34:59Speaker 1: to to add not just.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Exercise, not just women, men too. Men too.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Now they exercise it. You can choose to exercise and
- 35:07Speaker 1: build up your booty. But you're saying that people really
- 35:09Speaker 1: do put put fake implants into their bottoms.
- 35:13Speaker 2: They not only put it into their bottoms, they put
- 35:16Speaker 2: it into their chest area, They put it into their abs,
- 35:19Speaker 2: they put it into their arms. There are so many
- 35:22Speaker 2: people out there where you're like, Wow, that dude works out,
- 35:24Speaker 2: or wow, she must really work out and it's all enhancements.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Do you think men get ass implants?
- 35:30Speaker 2: Absolutely?
- 35:31Speaker 1: You love a number for a doctor who does.
- 35:33Speaker 2: That's true because you got a little two buffo behind
- 35:38Speaker 2: that's right.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I know it's small, it's very small. I was thinking
- 35:41Speaker 1: the other day that was the.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Other thing that I noticed about you, that when the
- 35:43Speaker 2: first time I met yours, like my butler, really small booty.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Oh you noticed that at the table?
- 35:48Speaker 2: Read absolutely when you walked away anyway, gone, Yeah.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I just wrote down because there was a shot of
- 35:53Speaker 1: her butt at which I thought looked beautiful, And then
- 35:56Speaker 1: I kind of thought about the line pringles and I
- 35:58Speaker 1: didn't fully understand it. Alright, let's move on from Sarah
- 36:01Speaker 1: and her glorious.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Let's talk about John C. McGinley. Yes, let's doctor Cox.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Wait before you get to Cox, I want to talk
- 36:09Speaker 1: about just I think Matt Winston is first. So Matt
- 36:12Speaker 1: Winston is the guy who's saying I'm a tool, I'm
- 36:15Speaker 1: a tool, lum a tool. And I always thought he
- 36:17Speaker 1: was so friggin funny. In fact, I put him in
- 36:19Speaker 1: my film which I was here and a little bit
- 36:22Speaker 1: of trivia for the trivia buffs out there. He's Stan
- 36:25Speaker 1: Winston's son, the late great Stan Winston.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Did you know that, Donald, I did not know that.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, So his dad he wasn't used a ton
- 36:33Speaker 1: a Bill sort of phased him out, although he did
- 36:35Speaker 1: have a hilarious line where he goes, it's like a baguette. Yeah,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I think when he was talking about Kelseo's penis all right,
- 36:40Speaker 1: So Johnny c McGinley, I mean, where do we begin
- 36:43Speaker 1: the legend?
- 36:44Speaker 2: The legend that I remember when we after the table read.
- 36:48Speaker 2: When I saw him at the table read, I was like,
- 36:50Speaker 2: I'm gonna stay clear of that guy. He's a little intimidating.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a little scary.
- 36:54Speaker 2: And then we did the rehearsals at the hospital and
- 36:59Speaker 2: I remember watching him and I was like, I remember
- 37:02Speaker 2: telling myself focus on him right now because we're all,
- 37:06Speaker 2: you know, kind of wide eyed and don't necessarily know
- 37:10Speaker 2: what it is we want to do. He came into
- 37:13Speaker 2: the game already with Cox like he was like, this
- 37:16Speaker 2: is how I'm going to play him. This is how
- 37:17Speaker 2: he's going to be, you know what I mean, he
- 37:19Speaker 2: knew right away what he was doing. And I remember
- 37:22Speaker 2: I was like, focus on that guy because he seems
- 37:24Speaker 2: to be already out the gate, you know what I mean.
- 37:26Speaker 2: He seems to be running already where we're you know,
- 37:29Speaker 2: getting a slow start. He's already off and running, so
- 37:32Speaker 2: focus on him and try and match that energy that
- 37:34Speaker 2: he has.
- 37:34Speaker 1: And he nobody worked harder. I mean, Johnny throughout the
- 37:37Speaker 1: course of the season had those endless, really hard to
- 37:40Speaker 1: do monologues, and he would sometimes get him the night
- 37:42Speaker 1: before and he would work so hard. I mean, this
- 37:46Speaker 1: is not a guy who ever phoned in. I don't
- 37:48Speaker 1: think Johnny ever flubbed a line in nine years.
- 37:50Speaker 2: I mean, true, he flubbed lines.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Well, I'm saying most rare, the least often of any
- 37:56Speaker 1: of us. And he was just so on it, and
- 37:59Speaker 1: so he so made it his. You know, there's a
- 38:02Speaker 1: thing in acting where you say, like, oh, I don't
- 38:03Speaker 1: want to just do it a generic way that anyone
- 38:05Speaker 1: will do it.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I want to.
- 38:06Speaker 1: I want to. I want to make it specific to
- 38:08Speaker 1: me and make it mine. And a lot of actors
- 38:10Speaker 1: I think forced that, and so they put all this
- 38:11Speaker 1: shit onto it that isn't necessary. They're just trying to
- 38:14Speaker 1: be different, whereas some actors just do that and it's natural,
- 38:16Speaker 1: it feels right. And I think Johnny's the ultimate example
- 38:19Speaker 1: of that. He's someone who all these characteristics and all
- 38:22Speaker 1: the things, the gestures, the hands on the back, of
- 38:24Speaker 1: his head, the touch in his nose, like that's all
- 38:26Speaker 1: just Johnny, that's all stuff that's so specifically him that
- 38:29Speaker 1: he brought to that part, you.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Know, absolutely, and he stayed consistent with it the whole time.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Everything he did, he was like, we all evolved into
- 38:40Speaker 2: different characters as the show went on. If you watch
- 38:42Speaker 2: the show, we're very you know, you and I would
- 38:46Speaker 2: it were you know, it's not as broad as the
- 38:48Speaker 2: show goes on. Johnny stayed consistent from the beginning. He
- 38:52Speaker 2: was the same level the whole time, right, and you
- 38:56Speaker 2: really see it in that first scene where he comes
- 38:59Speaker 2: into the break room and is doing his thing, you
- 39:03Speaker 2: know what I mean. It's really interesting, you know, to
- 39:06Speaker 2: go back and watch now because when making it, you know,
- 39:10Speaker 2: I paid attention to him specifically because of who he was,
- 39:14Speaker 2: but to see how I evolved, to see how you evolved,
- 39:18Speaker 2: to see how Sarah evolved, to see how you know
- 39:20Speaker 2: what I mean, Judy evolved. It really and all from
- 39:25Speaker 2: this pilot, you know what I mean. It's like the
- 39:27Speaker 2: pilot is a tame version of what Scrubs became.
- 39:31Speaker 1: You know what I mean, Although there's things about it,
- 39:33Speaker 1: you know, I don't know if you noticed, But there's
- 39:34Speaker 1: things that are in the pilot that you can see
- 39:36Speaker 1: both Bill and Adam Bernstein and the director are figuring
- 39:39Speaker 1: out like that. We eventually phased out like all the
- 39:42Speaker 1: I mean like there's like whip noises when Johnny turns
- 39:45Speaker 1: his head and there's like there's little there's like way
- 39:48Speaker 1: more sound effects early on. I think in the show
- 39:51Speaker 1: that they eventually toned down. I mean that's a digression
- 39:54Speaker 1: from Johnny. So Johnny's just amazing and people always ask
- 39:57Speaker 1: what he's like, and I say, he literally is this intent,
- 40:00Speaker 1: but he's just the most nice person you've ever met.
- 40:02Speaker 1: It's just like he's like, picture that intensity of a
- 40:05Speaker 1: human being, but he's a super sweet nice nothing.
- 40:09Speaker 2: But love though that intensity with nothing but love.
- 40:12Speaker 1: And when he shakes your hand, he puts out his
- 40:14Speaker 1: hand and goes, there's five good ones for you, meaning
- 40:17Speaker 1: his finger. Yeah, there's five good ones for you.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Grab it and squeeze.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yeah. He's got all sorts of sayings, but I'll never
- 40:24Speaker 1: forget there's five good ones for you.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that one, and there's a mammo in that.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we'd finish it. We'd finish a scene in
- 40:32Speaker 1: one of our editor's names was Jean Michelle, and he'd go,
- 40:34Speaker 1: I think we gave Jean Michelle some mammo, all right,
- 40:41Speaker 1: so let's go. The next thing I wrote down on
- 40:42Speaker 1: if you have anything before this, but was the sitcom
- 40:45Speaker 1: fantasy I have where I where I'm with Sarah on this.
- 40:49Speaker 2: The man You to the Man.
- 40:51Speaker 1: So I don't even know what this was. A sitcom
- 40:53Speaker 1: must have been on on NBC or something or maybe ABC,
- 40:57Speaker 1: because but I don't remember. We borrowed some Actually, people
- 41:01Speaker 1: out there might who know the sitcom might recognize who
- 41:03Speaker 1: said it is, but we just went to an actual
- 41:06Speaker 1: set and shot the scene there because we didn't, you know,
- 41:08Speaker 1: it was the pilot.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Was it like good Morning Miami or something like that.
- 41:12Speaker 1: That could have been it. I don't know. It probably
- 41:13Speaker 1: was a pilot of the of the same season, right
- 41:17Speaker 1: or something. And I remember this was just surreal. We
- 41:19Speaker 1: were in like on a real sitcom stage. And now,
- 41:22Speaker 1: granted I have a huge crush on Sarah and I'm
- 41:24Speaker 1: doing my best to like hold it together, and then
- 41:27Speaker 1: all of a sudden we're doing a scene where she
- 41:29Speaker 1: rips off her top and mounts me and we make out.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what, back in the day, I was like, Wow,
- 41:34Speaker 2: she ripped off her top. That's cutting edge. Now I
- 41:36Speaker 2: look at it and I'm like, oh, whoa did she
- 41:40Speaker 2: have to rip off our top?
- 41:42Speaker 1: Well, I mean I think the show. You have to
- 41:43Speaker 1: look at it in the context of the year. I mean,
- 41:46Speaker 1: everybody forgets now because we have all this everything streaming
- 41:49Speaker 1: and cable and everything's so much more risque, and you
- 41:52Speaker 1: go to you seek out whatever you watch. I mean,
- 41:56Speaker 1: from the Show Girls, the crazy show they would do
- 41:59Speaker 1: on there, to everything and anything that's on Netflix now.
- 42:03Speaker 1: But back in the day, you know, I think Bill
- 42:05Speaker 1: was trying to push the envelope. The show was on
- 42:07Speaker 1: at nine or nine thirty. He was trying to push
- 42:09Speaker 1: the diamelo of what you could do on network television.
- 42:12Speaker 1: So both with being politically incorrected times, both with sex
- 42:17Speaker 1: with language. I mean, he was trying to say, like, hey, network,
- 42:20Speaker 1: you can compete and be a little bit you know riskee,
- 42:24Speaker 1: And so this for the time was pretty risque. I
- 42:26Speaker 1: mean it was. There was a lot of sex in
- 42:28Speaker 1: the show. You know, it's funny. I have I'm sure
- 42:29Speaker 1: you do. You have people who go, hey, I'm showing
- 42:32Speaker 1: my kids scrubs and I can't be in the same room.
- 42:34Speaker 1: It's so awkward because it's because there was a lot
- 42:36Speaker 1: of sex in the show.
- 42:37Speaker 2: No, I don't you know, I don't let my kids
- 42:40Speaker 2: watch Scrubs.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Well your kids are your kids are too young. But
- 42:42Speaker 1: I'm saying, like.
- 42:43Speaker 2: I got a six year old and a four year old.
- 42:45Speaker 1: No watch No, I didn't mean your kids. I mean
- 42:48Speaker 1: like like Matt Tarsis, who was one of the writers,
- 42:50Speaker 1: he told me that his son, who was a teenager,
- 42:52Speaker 1: was watching the show and he's like, I had to
- 42:53Speaker 1: walk out of the room. I was like watching like
- 42:55Speaker 1: you and Sarah have these sex scenes, like that episode
- 42:57Speaker 1: where we're eating pizza and we're like banging all over
- 43:00Speaker 1: the place.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Okay, you know that's that is true. Sarah did have
- 43:13Speaker 2: to take her top off. But I'm gonna be honest
- 43:15Speaker 2: with you. I think the guys on the show were
- 43:19Speaker 2: way more naked than the females were on the show.
- 43:21Speaker 2: You know what I mean. Between you were naked so much.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Your body looks fierce.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Thank you, like Tay Diggs, baby, like Ty Diggs.
- 43:31Speaker 1: You know you know. Funny bit of trivia. Rob Maschio,
- 43:33Speaker 1: who was often only in his banana Hammock and worked
- 43:36Speaker 1: very hard to maintain that physique would do all sorts
- 43:39Speaker 1: of push ups and stuff. When the show moved from
- 43:42Speaker 1: whatever season from NBC to ABC, which is owned by Disney,
- 43:46Speaker 1: they made a rule that we could no longer film
- 43:48Speaker 1: him from the waist down when he was in his
- 43:50Speaker 1: banana Hammock, did you know that bit of trivia?
- 43:52Speaker 2: I didn't know that bit of trivia. I also, I remember,
- 43:55Speaker 2: and we'll discuss this later on, but there were times
- 43:58Speaker 2: where we were actually really naked because it had to
- 44:01Speaker 2: be that way for the camera.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Wait, you didn't have like a sock on your penis.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I did one time. I did have a sock on
- 44:07Speaker 2: my penis, And I remember having to walk into parking
- 44:09Speaker 2: lot with a bunch of people which a sock on
- 44:12Speaker 2: my penis. I remember not only that, not only that
- 44:14Speaker 2: I had a I had also a very big leaf,
- 44:18Speaker 2: very big leaf.
- 44:18Speaker 1: It was a big leaf, first of all, a large
- 44:20Speaker 1: like an overleaf.
- 44:21Speaker 2: It was like it was like a maple leaf, like
- 44:23Speaker 2: a huge maple leaf.
- 44:25Speaker 1: It wasn't like one of those thin like bamboo.
- 44:26Speaker 2: No, no, no, it wasn't like it wasn't like an eucalyptus leaf.
- 44:29Speaker 2: It was a It was like a maple leaf to
- 44:32Speaker 2: cover my job.
- 44:33Speaker 1: No one has ever bragged about their sexual prowess through
- 44:36Speaker 1: leaf sides, so that's a first for our podcast. I
- 44:38Speaker 1: do want to say that. I once there's a scene
- 44:41Speaker 1: where I was dancing in front of Tara Reid and
- 44:43Speaker 1: I was supposed to be naked and they were shooting
- 44:46Speaker 1: me from behind, and so I just I packed everything
- 44:48Speaker 1: I had into a sock and I was doing the
- 44:51Speaker 1: dance in front of Tara Reid. Remember that? And then
- 44:53Speaker 1: and then the sock came off, and then I was like,
- 44:56Speaker 1: what a surreal experience. There's Tara Reid just staring at
- 44:59Speaker 1: the junk.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh, I mean, what am I gonna do? I
- 45:08Speaker 1: apologize and all right, So we got a caller on waite,
- 45:11Speaker 1: why are you interrupting? I want to I just want
- 45:13Speaker 1: to say that it was a tube sock, much like
- 45:15Speaker 1: your leaf analogy.
- 45:16Speaker 2: It was not it wasn't It wasn't a dress sock.
- 45:18Speaker 1: It was you know those little those little socks people
- 45:20Speaker 1: now where they're just like.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Go for There wasn't an ankle sock. It was a
- 45:22Speaker 2: tube sock. Did they call those things that just go
- 45:24Speaker 2: ankle socks.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it was ankle sock.
- 45:26Speaker 2: It was a tube sock.
- 45:27Speaker 1: It was a tube sock.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Got to say, we're basing your boys.
- 45:31Speaker 1: It was a tube man, a long one.
- 45:33Speaker 2: So we got a collar.
- 45:34Speaker 1: It was a woman's thigh.
- 45:35Speaker 2: High Okay, okay, So I don't mean to interrupt yourzac,
- 45:43Speaker 2: but we got a caller.
- 45:44Speaker 1: This is exciting because I I daydreamed when we said
- 45:47Speaker 1: we were going to do this that we should take
- 45:49Speaker 1: fan questions from all around the world, and it's really happening.
- 45:53Speaker 1: So go ahead, Donald, and.
- 45:54Speaker 2: So I'd like to introduce Chris to the podcast. Chris,
- 46:00Speaker 2: how are you hi.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Chris, how's it Cohen?
- 46:02Speaker 5: Guys, I'm doing well. Thank you for having me on.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Very first guest. So we really want to nail this.
- 46:08Speaker 1: We want to give you the best answer to your question.
- 46:10Speaker 1: That's that's ever been given to any question throughout the history.
- 46:14Speaker 6: Okay, gotcha, that's heart that no pressure exactly, all right.
- 46:20Speaker 6: I guess the question I'll ask you all.
- 46:23Speaker 5: This one comes from a buddy of mine named Andrew.
- 46:25Speaker 5: I have a question about the soundtrack. I think that's
- 46:27Speaker 5: something that was such like an iconic part of the
- 46:29Speaker 5: show just across all the seasons. You introduced so many
- 46:33Speaker 5: people to so many awesome artists over the years. Was
- 46:35Speaker 5: that something was there someone that spearheaded that did you
- 46:38Speaker 5: guys just have great taste? Like, how did you come
- 46:40Speaker 5: up with this soundtrack?
- 46:41Speaker 2: It was all me? It was all me.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Donald had nothing to do with it. Let me just sorry.
- 46:44Speaker 2: I literally had nothing to do with it.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Yeah, because I mean, did you ever get a song
- 46:49Speaker 1: on ever?
- 46:50Speaker 2: No, because I was listening to songs like Jo tosy Uh.
- 46:54Speaker 2: I was listening to you know uh songs by Wu
- 46:57Speaker 2: Tang Clan, you know what I mean.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Things like yeah, great, Donald didn't take the music.
- 47:04Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, a lot of the artists
- 47:06Speaker 2: that were on the show, I was introduced to for
- 47:09Speaker 2: the first time while watching the show. So who do
- 47:14Speaker 2: we have on a show?
- 47:15Speaker 3: Keen?
- 47:15Speaker 2: All these people, I had no idea who they were,
- 47:18Speaker 2: you know what I mean? And some artists that were
- 47:19Speaker 2: well known. I just didn't listen to that type of
- 47:21Speaker 2: music at the time. It wasn't until Scrubs that all
- 47:24Speaker 2: of a sudden started listening to Indian folk rock, you
- 47:27Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 47:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that you know, first of all, it
- 47:29Speaker 1: was a lot of people. It was definitely Bill Lawrence
- 47:31Speaker 1: obviously created the show, and his wife Krista Miller, who
- 47:35Speaker 1: played Jordan, and myself. I think we were the three
- 47:39Speaker 1: probably the main people, but also a lot of the
- 47:41Speaker 1: writers in the writer's room. A lot of times when
- 47:43Speaker 1: it was their script, they'd go with a lot of people,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but and of course the editors who would who would
- 47:47Speaker 1: you know? The editors would get like ten ideas and
- 47:50Speaker 1: they'd be the ones to try and and and shape
- 47:52Speaker 1: it to see what would work the best. So there
- 47:54Speaker 1: was a bunch of us, but Christa Miller definitely did
- 47:57Speaker 1: a lot of song choosing, and I got a bunch
- 48:00Speaker 1: on myself that I'm excited about.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Our best friend, uh got.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Joshua Joshua Rainead and.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Got his start really before Scrubs. What was josh doing?
- 48:10Speaker 1: He was sleeping on my couch, was he really? Yeah?
- 48:13Speaker 1: I mean he didn't even have a job, and he
- 48:15Speaker 1: had written the song Winter, which we played in the
- 48:18Speaker 1: episode where Bretton Fraser's character dies spoiler, And yeah, when
- 48:25Speaker 1: Winter was so popular that that had launched a career
- 48:28Speaker 1: for josh and everyone was like, what other songs do
- 48:30Speaker 1: you have? And He's like, that's the only song I've
- 48:32Speaker 1: ever written, and so he had to like frantically make
- 48:34Speaker 1: an album.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Yeah. I remember going to watch him at two concerts
- 48:39Speaker 2: with like me, Zach my girlfriend at the time, Zach's
- 48:43Speaker 2: girlfriend at the time, and that was it. Yeah, and
- 48:47Speaker 2: now he sells out, you know, he does.
- 48:50Speaker 1: He does really really well, So that's it. It was
- 48:52Speaker 1: a lot of fun, you know. I think Bill was
- 48:55Speaker 1: early on in putting music at the you know, now
- 48:57Speaker 1: it's become very popular and very common to sort of
- 49:02Speaker 1: end your episode of TV with an emotional piece of
- 49:06Speaker 1: music and then cut around in a montage and watch
- 49:09Speaker 1: how everyone, you know, what they learned from the episode.
- 49:12Speaker 1: And and I think Bill was at the forefront of
- 49:14Speaker 1: doing that definitely, because you know now now it's pretty commonplace.
- 49:19Speaker 1: But I think Scrubs was kind of one of the
- 49:20Speaker 1: first shows to do that.
- 49:21Speaker 2: You know. I like to think The Wonder Years was, Yeah,
- 49:25Speaker 2: he would was a was a early version of what
- 49:29Speaker 2: single camera comedy. I mean, mash obviously, but the Wonder
- 49:33Speaker 2: Years really took it's the time that it was in
- 49:37Speaker 2: and use the music of that time to help tell
- 49:40Speaker 2: the story. And Scrubs I feel like it's the next
- 49:45Speaker 2: thing to do that, and then.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and Alan mcbial also Ally McBeal. I think Bill
- 49:49Speaker 1: would say that. I remember the show Ali mcbeil had
- 49:51Speaker 1: they cut away to wacky shit. I mean, I think
- 49:54Speaker 1: Scrubbs meets Scrubs is sort of Alan McBeal meets Mash
- 49:57Speaker 1: meets Wonder Years. Right, all right, so we answer your question.
- 50:00Speaker 2: He did. That was awesome.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Do you have another one? We'll give you another one.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll give you another question.
- 50:05Speaker 5: All right. I've got a two part question.
- 50:08Speaker 6: It's kind of common knowledge now that the Janitor wasn't
- 50:10Speaker 6: supposed to make a past season one.
- 50:12Speaker 5: He was supposed to be a fig man of JD's imagination.
- 50:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so two parter here.
- 50:16Speaker 6: One, How is that supposed to be written in? How
- 50:19Speaker 6: is it going to come to be known that the
- 50:20Speaker 6: Janitor was, you know, just a figment of the imagination.
- 50:23Speaker 6: And then the second part of that is is there
- 50:25Speaker 6: any plotline that didn't come to fruition that you really
- 50:28Speaker 6: wish did?
- 50:29Speaker 1: Yeah? I know that, but wait, I just want to say,
- 50:31Speaker 1: we're gonna have Bill on for everyone. Bill will probably
- 50:33Speaker 1: be our first guest because he can answer all sorts
- 50:36Speaker 1: of questions about what his plan was for the writing
- 50:39Speaker 1: and such. But I do remember that Neil Flynn. First
- 50:42Speaker 1: of all, I was going to talk about this when
- 50:43Speaker 1: we got to Neil in the pilot. But Neil was
- 50:45Speaker 1: supposed to just have a small part. He wasn't. Bill
- 50:48Speaker 1: wasn't even intending that he was going to be in
- 50:49Speaker 1: the show beyond the pilot or maybe a few episodes.
- 50:52Speaker 1: But he was so hilarious that Bill just kept adding
- 50:55Speaker 1: him and adding him and adding him, and to the
- 50:58Speaker 1: point where he was one became one of the stars
- 51:00Speaker 1: of the show. And Neil is a hilarious improvisational actor,
- 51:04Speaker 1: and so a lot of times he would just make
- 51:06Speaker 1: up his own line throughout the whole run of the show.
- 51:08Speaker 1: And in fact, it got to a point where and
- 51:10Speaker 1: sometimes in a script it would just say like and
- 51:12Speaker 1: then Neil makes up something funny like it wouldn't even
- 51:14Speaker 1: have align for him because Neil was just so gifted
- 51:18Speaker 1: and hilarious.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Well, that whole scene was that whole scene improved with
- 51:22Speaker 2: you and him with the penny in the door.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Well, the penny in the door was all written. But
- 51:25Speaker 1: I'm saying, like right off the bat, everybody could tell like,
- 51:28Speaker 1: this guy, Neil Flynn is really funny, and he's got
- 51:30Speaker 1: to be more in the show. And you know, Bill
- 51:33Speaker 1: would kind of try people out, and when they killed it,
- 51:35Speaker 1: he'd keep using him, you know, just like you like
- 51:37Speaker 1: all the people that fans grew to love, like you know,
- 51:40Speaker 1: Phil Lewis Hooch, Like we'd all thought he was so
- 51:43Speaker 1: frigging hilarious. We just kept putting him on the show
- 51:45Speaker 1: whenever we could. So anyway, long story short, if you
- 51:49Speaker 1: I think throughout season one, the janitor only addresses me
- 51:52Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken now, So so Bill kind of
- 51:56Speaker 1: had the idea, like, oh my god, if this doesn't
- 51:58Speaker 1: go too long, it might be funny. Need to do
- 52:00Speaker 1: a big reveal that the janitor is totally in in
- 52:04Speaker 1: uh in JD's imagination.
- 52:05Speaker 2: But then how crazy and would that have made j D? Though?
- 52:08Speaker 2: You would have been like a freaking psycho, dude, you would.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Have been look at my, look at nine years of
- 52:13Speaker 1: wacky fantasies, remember when you were a goat?
- 52:15Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, but it was a fantasy. These were fantasies.
- 52:19Speaker 2: If if you actually had somebody that you an imaginary
- 52:22Speaker 2: friend that you talked to and would talk back to you,
- 52:26Speaker 2: and you're a doctor.
- 52:29Speaker 1: I know, I think it could have been cool, but
- 52:30Speaker 1: but anyway, the point was that that the show kept
- 52:32Speaker 1: going and Bill. I remember Bill. I heard Bill say
- 52:34Speaker 1: like I had to, I had to have this guy
- 52:35Speaker 1: interact with other people because it was like, you know,
- 52:38Speaker 1: and then it became you know, he wanted to. I
- 52:40Speaker 1: think fans also wanted to see the character of the
- 52:42Speaker 1: Janitor interact with people, although you never knew his name
- 52:46Speaker 1: or did you name was Janitor or was it Glenn Matthews.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Did we answer the second part of the question.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Oh, storylines, we did. We did a medicinal marijuana long
- 52:56Speaker 1: before it's time. We did a medicinal marijuana plotline and
- 52:59Speaker 1: start shooting it and then the studio told Bill to
- 53:03Speaker 1: shut it down.
- 53:04Speaker 2: It happened.
- 53:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny because of course, now marijuana's legal in
- 53:09Speaker 1: California and so many other places.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Well, it had just I remember, it had just started
- 53:13Speaker 2: becoming legal at the time when we Yeah, I remember,
- 53:19Speaker 2: I do remember that because there were a lot of
- 53:21Speaker 2: people that were smoking weed.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Well, we probably shouldn't bring that up in the in
- 53:25Speaker 1: the first episode of this, let's get to how high
- 53:28Speaker 1: everybody was. In future episodes with the tease something.
- 53:30Speaker 2: I'm just saying I was a tease.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Okay, In future episodes, Donald will out people for who
- 53:35Speaker 1: was baked twin. All right, thank you, Chris.
- 53:39Speaker 5: Thank you Chris, Thank you Chris.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Thanks for being our first guest.
- 53:46Speaker 2: That would be so funny. That would be so funny
- 53:51Speaker 2: if that's how we did it. If in that scene
- 53:54Speaker 2: he's high.
- 53:56Speaker 1: I think you need to come clean. When we get
- 53:58Speaker 1: to scenes where you were.
- 53:59Speaker 2: Baked, that'll be like the whole series run.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Okay, great, How long into the series did you stop
- 54:05Speaker 1: memorizing your lines?
- 54:08Speaker 2: Uh rt.
- 54:14Speaker 1: We'll talk about that in future episodes to come as well. Oh,
- 54:17Speaker 1: I wanted to say the scene with Johnny in the
- 54:20Speaker 1: in the in the lounge with with the woman that
- 54:23Speaker 1: that was my audition scene where Johnny comes in with
- 54:26Speaker 1: the woman he says is dead and he's telling me
- 54:28Speaker 1: to throw tile in all her face. That was one
- 54:30Speaker 1: of the main, I think one of the three scenes
- 54:32Speaker 1: that I auditioned with. What was your audition scenes?
- 54:34Speaker 2: Do you remember My audition scene was I'm really scared.
- 54:39Speaker 2: I'm so happy that I get to wear a surgical mask,
- 54:41Speaker 2: a mask because if I didn't have it on, my
- 54:44Speaker 2: face would look like this. And then I make the
- 54:46Speaker 2: scared face. Yeah, that was one of my auditioned scenes.
- 54:50Speaker 2: And then and did you improv I love you?
- 54:53Speaker 1: Or is that in the script?
- 54:54Speaker 2: No, we improv that. Bill came up to me. It
- 54:56Speaker 2: was like telling me you love him at the end.
- 54:57Speaker 1: That was funny and I was.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Like, what is to say it? And then laugh when
- 55:01Speaker 2: you are.
- 55:01Speaker 1: And then Lonnie, by the way, everyone that's Lonnie. Lonnie's
- 55:05Speaker 1: playing the pizza delivery guy.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I had no idea that was him until watching the pilot.
- 55:09Speaker 1: So Lonnie Lonnie exists. It's one of the few people
- 55:12Speaker 1: that exists as two different characters in the Scrubs universe.
- 55:15Speaker 2: I feel like it's three different characters. But yeah, okay, why.
- 55:18Speaker 1: There's Lonnie, there's pizza delivery guy?
- 55:21Speaker 2: And who was a was Lonnie also the guy that
- 55:23Speaker 2: played basketball? I don't remember.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Okay, anyway, Scrubs fans will answer for us. But yeah,
- 55:28Speaker 1: that was very funny. I love that when you say
- 55:29Speaker 1: I love you, he looks. We both look at you like.
- 55:32Speaker 2: What I say to you all the time.
- 55:36Speaker 1: In this scene, also with the woman was supposed to
- 55:39Speaker 1: be really dead, and I remember the network pushed back
- 55:43Speaker 1: against Bill and said no, you can't have her really
- 55:46Speaker 1: genuinely pushing around a dead woman. You have to have
- 55:50Speaker 1: her at the end go I'm not really dead. So
- 55:52Speaker 1: that was a rewrite forced by the network because Bill
- 55:54Speaker 1: thought it was funny if he really was just pushing
- 55:56Speaker 1: around a corpse.
- 55:57Speaker 2: Very funny too. I want to talk about Ken Jenkins
- 56:00Speaker 2: or second yes, because I feel like he was the
- 56:02Speaker 2: MVP of our show, you know what I mean, in
- 56:05Speaker 2: so many ways, like, uh, it's really difficult to be
- 56:11Speaker 2: on a show with such a huge ensemble cast where
- 56:15Speaker 2: everyone is likable, from the lead all the way down
- 56:19Speaker 2: to the guest stars. Everyone's likable. I think the hardest part,
- 56:25Speaker 2: the hardest person to play in all of that would
- 56:27Speaker 2: be the bad guy, you know what I mean. And
- 56:30Speaker 2: he made it so that the bad guy you didn't
- 56:33Speaker 2: like him, but you still loved him, you know what
- 56:36Speaker 2: I mean. And I felt like he was literally the MVP.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Him and Judy Rayis actually were the MVPs of the
- 56:44Speaker 2: show because Judy had to tackle all of the dramatic stuff,
- 56:47Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Her character felt everything. She
- 56:50Speaker 2: was the nurse, she was the mother of the hospital.
- 56:53Speaker 2: And Ken Jenkins, his character was the evil dad or
- 56:58Speaker 2: the you know what I mean, the grandpa who was
- 57:01Speaker 2: just over it all and was like, I just you know,
- 57:03Speaker 2: I want this hospital to make money. We're broke, and
- 57:08Speaker 2: all that matters is if their insurance is going to
- 57:11Speaker 2: pay for it. If it's if they're not, get them
- 57:13Speaker 2: out of here, because we're we're broke. We got no dough.
- 57:17Speaker 2: And I thought to make those two to make that
- 57:21Speaker 2: character lovable is a really, really, really hard thing to do,
- 57:25Speaker 2: and he did it effortlessly, it seemed like in my eyes.
- 57:28Speaker 2: And and same thing with Judy, you know what I mean.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Judy would played a role that was definitely needed in
- 57:35Speaker 2: this band of misfits. She played this character that was
- 57:40Speaker 2: just motherly and took care of you know, Bambi came
- 57:45Speaker 2: from that. That's that that stuck throughout the whole show.
- 57:49Speaker 2: You being called Bambi.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I noticed that. Her very first line that comes
- 57:53Speaker 1: out of her mouth is calling me Bamby. I didn't
- 57:55Speaker 1: I didn't know that. It's I didn't remember that. But
- 57:57Speaker 1: that's stuck for the whole run of the show. And
- 57:59Speaker 1: of course will still call me that on the street
- 58:01Speaker 1: when I'm past them. But uh, her very first line
- 58:04Speaker 1: is calling me Bambi.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean. And it was it
- 58:07Speaker 2: was just we knew what we were there to do.
- 58:09Speaker 2: We're here to be funny, and we're here to make
- 58:12Speaker 2: everybody laugh, and you know, and and at times we're
- 58:15Speaker 2: gonna get dramatic and everything like that. But Judy and
- 58:18Speaker 2: Ken had the tough roles. In my opinion, you knew
- 58:22Speaker 2: Judy was supposed to make everybody feel safe. Ken was
- 58:25Speaker 2: supposed to make everybody feel anger, you know what I mean,
- 58:29Speaker 2: in this in this crazy world. And they did it
- 58:31Speaker 2: so perfectly.
- 58:32Speaker 1: And and Ken had a lot of the you know,
- 58:33Speaker 1: social commentary that Bill was trying to get in there
- 58:36Speaker 1: about how fucked up the healthcare system is and how
- 58:38Speaker 1: how how fucked up it is that hospitals are like
- 58:41Speaker 1: no insurance, get him out of here, like you know,
- 58:43Speaker 1: what do you like right away in the pilot. Of course,
- 58:47Speaker 1: these issues are so relevant today more than ever. But
- 58:50Speaker 1: right away in the pilot you have them going, look,
- 58:52Speaker 1: I don't care that you know nothing. Let me tell
- 58:54Speaker 1: you a couple of things. If they don't have insurance,
- 58:56Speaker 1: get him out of here, and uh and and and
- 58:59Speaker 1: and Bill geniusly found a way to make that and
- 59:02Speaker 1: of course, Ken Jenkins is an actor. Together, they found
- 59:05Speaker 1: a way to make that character so lovable even though
- 59:07Speaker 1: he was he was the antagonist.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to.
- 59:11Speaker 1: Talk about thirteen minutes and thirty eight seconds. I'm looking
- 59:14Speaker 1: at a still of you making out with Judy Reyies right,
- 59:17Speaker 1: and Todd in the frame I have up. Todd is
- 59:20Speaker 1: watching because it's part of the fantasying. So what was
- 59:25Speaker 1: it like? You know, I think people who aren't actors
- 59:27Speaker 1: are always curious what it's like when you meet someone. Hey,
- 59:29Speaker 1: nice to meet you, and then all of a sudden
- 59:30Speaker 1: you have to just go do a fake makeout scene
- 59:31Speaker 1: with them.
- 59:32Speaker 2: I feel like that was the first day I met
- 59:33Speaker 2: Judy too, and really, yeah, I feel like that was
- 59:36Speaker 2: our first scene together and I hadn't you know, I
- 59:40Speaker 2: remember me. I don't remember Neil at the table read.
- 59:44Speaker 2: I don't remember Judy. I don't remember Ken at the
- 59:47Speaker 2: table read. I remember me, you, Johnny and Sarah for
- 59:51Speaker 2: some reason. And so when we did the makeout scene,
- 59:56Speaker 2: I feel like that was my I know, it's not
- 59:58Speaker 2: the first day I met her. That's my first real
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: memory of Judy, you know what I mean? And I
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: remember she smoked cigarettes, right, before the scene, and I was.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Like, Ah, that's a power move, that's a power move.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: That's how you do it. But I've realized that's how
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: you do it. If you're gonna make out with somebody,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: make it so they got to work and not make
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: it so it's them having a great time making out. No,
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: this is a job, dude, This is this isn't this
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: isn't you getting your rocks off while we're doing this scene.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: It's funny to think about someone smoking like, I mean,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I don't do you know any I mean, it's rare
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: to see anyone smoking cigarettes at all anymore.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: Oh No, there are a lot of people that still
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: smoke cigarettes. Now vaping has turned into the work.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: So I just feel like vaping of course, but just
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: the idea that Judy was I guess a smoker when
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: we started, right.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: I was a smoker when we started. I spoke started and.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Neil was always a smoker.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Yeah, when we started doing the show, I think a
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: lot of a smoke cigarette. I mean in the cast
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: maybe you, Sarah and Johnny and Ken didn't, but everyone
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: else did.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't remember that.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: And then us doing the kissing stuff, and then watching
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: the episode and none of that made the show. Really.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: All it is is me, we're kind of cuddled up together.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: We're kind of cuddled up together, and uh and Rob's
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: over us watching. But I remember doing the scene if
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: feeling way more intimate than that, you know what I mean,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: way more you know what I mean, and then watching
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: it being like, oh, they didn't use any other other
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: good stuff.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Right, Well, it's a really quick moment. And I love
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: that she's I love that you're naked, and she's like,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: all right, thanks, I'm out. I thought that was a
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: cool introduction of her character.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: She was like, and I also and I also liked
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: that your imagination was me scoring in reality the real
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: what really happened was I got played and then got
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: turned into you know, I got you know, I stripped
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: down for someone, right.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: And she was like she got you know, she just
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: wanted to make out with someone and be like later
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: and she like she was like she kind of like
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: used you, whereas in my imagination you were using her.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that was clever.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: I wanted to just quote talk about that it's going backwards,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: but that deer in headlight thing, I still have the
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: foam antlers. I'm staring at them right now from that
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: that fantasy where I imagine I'm a deer at headlights.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: And and what we had to do was we backed
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: the mac up, the big semi, right up to my face.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: And the idea was for the that the truck would
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: floor it in reverse and and then we'd play it
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: and then we'd play it backwards right so it looked
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: like it was And then of course it hit a
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: mannequin too, but for this one shot, and I remember
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: standing there with my face against the grill of a
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: of a Mack truck and being like leaning out to
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: the driver, being like, you sure it's in reverse? Right,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Like like there had to be some OSHA rule against that,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: but I but I was like standing there going if
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: this dude, Like I don't want to cause any waves
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: or anything, but I just want to double check you're
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: in reverse. We have finally saving a life. Oh, we
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: have a loma. We should talk about Loma. Right, the
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: beautiful and talented Olma Right who played the nurse Roberts.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Nurse Roberts, who who whose introduction in the show is
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: you know amazing. Can you just call him so I
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: can go home? Please?
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Yeah? Can you just call him trying. She's so good
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: and and Loma was one of those again, another example
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: of someone who Bill just loved and thought was so talented,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: and she you know, ended up being in the whole
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: the whole show until he eventually killed her off, felt
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: bad and brought her back as her twin sister, which
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: we'll get to that and later Laverne again, podcast, Laverne.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Again again, I'm gonna call you Laverne again.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: So we were thinking of like trying to summarize what
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: the lesson of the episode was, But I mean, I
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: think the episode, the lesson of the of the pilot
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: was basically the theme song, which is I can't do
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: this all on my own, right, I mean right.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: It's the introduction of how difficult it is to be
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: a doctor in a hospital and how the medical staff
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: at a hospital really depends on each other to work.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think, I mean, I don't think it's
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: a big leap to say that a lot of people
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: related to the show because they can see that in
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: their own lives and how you turn to your friends
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: and your family. I mean, I think the show can be,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: as we all know, can be very very heartwarming, and
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: that was what Bill did so geniusly was how it'd
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: be so funny and crazy and silly and fantasies and everything,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden you can turn a
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: corner and you're losing a patient like I did at
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: the end, or or you see that our friendship is
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: so is so pure.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: It's still solid, also conquering fear, you know what I mean.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: JD was so afraid to do everything. As a matter
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: of fact, him and Elliott hide in a closet at
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: one point and doctor Cox catches them doing it and
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: understands why they're afraid. But then at the end of
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: the show still gives j D the confidence to perform
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: whatever it is you did with the tube and the
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: blood and all of that stuff, something that you know
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: JD was very afraid of and made him feel like
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: he was going to be okay. And he was, and
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: he had a support group around him.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think that's it. That's that's the pilot.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I think we just we just did it. We did
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: our first podcast. I love you and I love you
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: so much.
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Hey listen, if you're a fan and you made it
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: to the end, thank you. We want we're gonna keep
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: doing this. We want you to watch the show with us.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: We're gonna do this every week and and you can
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: just join us, tell your friends, and every week we're
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: gonna go through another episode, and we're gonna take a
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: fan question if you have a fan question, Donald, we
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: have set up a Gmail account the iHeart people.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Have, right, and that account is That.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Account is scrubsiheart at gmail dot com. So scrubs and
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: then I heart at gmail dot com. And Sary said,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: thank you. We want you to submit questions and then
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: are our beautiful producers here will will work out all
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: the logistics and and we'll have you on. We're gonna
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: take a question each podcast. We're gonna have guests on.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: We're gonna start having fellow cast members. We'rena obviously gonna
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: have our creator of the show, Bill Lawrence on. Who
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: else we're gonna have on Donald, some of the.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, we're going after, you know, even some
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: of the people that you remember but don't know, like
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Snoop Dogg in Turn, we're gonna reach out to him.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: We're already head did he already.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Snoop Dogg in Turn already slid into my DMS and I.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Mick had already said he's down. We're gonna even have that.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: We're gonna have the stand ins on the show who
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: did a lot of the work that you see, uh
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: before we went in and did it set up the
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: shots they you know, So it's gonna be a bunch
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: of people. Writers, We're gonna have uh, directors everything. Hopefully
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: we could get some big names too.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I'm sure Scott Foley would come on and we could
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: just say nobody cares. Sean over and nobody every Sean,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: Nobody cares. So follow Donald and I on Instagram and Twitter,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: and please tell your friends because we hope this is
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: a big success. Because for us this was I don't
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: know about you, Donald, but this was a lot of fun.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I kind of don't want to stop talking, but I
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: feel like.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely should. This was actually the you know I
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: talk about Clueless as the jump off point in my
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: life where I was introduced to the industry and I
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: learned a lot of things. But Scrubs was really like
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: the you know, that was the thing that took it
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: over the top for me as an actor, where I
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: had an actual job where I was able to you know,
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: pay my rent and I built a family because I
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: was able to be a part of this wonderful show.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: So you know, I owe a lot to you, Zach,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I owe a lot to Bill Lawrence. I owe a
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: lot to the cast and the crew of this of Scrubs.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: So I'm really excited to talk about it with fans
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: who enjoyed the experiences that we had.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and as always, I agree with everything you said,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: And as always, thank you for being our fans, and
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: thank you for supporting the show. It was a joy
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: to make it for you and Donald. I hate this quarantining.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I just want to be with you all the time.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I want to be there.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Will be a day again, Hopefully there will be a
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: day again where you and I can eagle.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I can't wait to ride you.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: I can't.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: I feel like that's how we should end. Should we
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: end with that? Now, let's end with that. Don't say,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: don't speak, don't speak. Let's just end with that. Goodbye Forboddy.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: Here's some stories I'm not sure we made about a
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: bunch of docs and nurses and
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Said here's a story, nel, so YadA, Yeather
