Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:25Speaker 2: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. Today we are
- 0:28Speaker 2: back to wrap up the Chicken Sisters season two. I'm
- 0:32Speaker 2: joined once again by Aaron Shay, who holds the distinction
- 0:35Speaker 2: of having watched all of Chicken Sisters season two. And
- 0:39Speaker 2: I wanted you back for a couple of reasons.
- 0:41Speaker 3: One, obviously we like you.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Two, as mentioned, you did watch the whole season, which
- 0:46Speaker 2: doesn't seem like was something a ton of people did.
- 0:50Speaker 2: And three, you made a statement on our first podcast
- 0:54Speaker 2: episode that we did.
- 0:55Speaker 3: That I really wanted to bring you back for.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Do you have a guess what that statement is that
- 0:59Speaker 2: I'm talking out.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It is either going to be about Nancy or about Clayton.
- 1:04Speaker 2: No, Okay, I know, Okay, Well we're gonna get into it.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Gonn we have things to talk about.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I can't wait.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I can't even envision what the Nancy or Clayton statements are.
- 1:15Speaker 2: The statement actually is remember in the book when Frank
- 1:18Speaker 2: Junior was dead. I miss that. That's the same I'm
- 1:21Speaker 2: thinking of. Specifically, we are going to talk about the
- 1:24Speaker 2: Frank Junior at all, but we I'm going to say that,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and for a minute, first, I want to hear what
- 1:29Speaker 2: you thought of the season of the show as a whole.
- 1:33Speaker 1: As a whole, I am still very much in on
- 1:37Speaker 1: it the Chicken Sisters. I think they did a great
- 1:40Speaker 1: job wrapping up, not wrapping up, but of finishing the
- 1:45Speaker 1: season two arc of certain storylines. There are still things
- 1:50Speaker 1: that I am looking forward to, like, you know, not
- 1:55Speaker 1: necessarily just homework, but some shows in general, I feel
- 1:58Speaker 1: like we get to this point where I'm like, yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I don't really care anymore. Yeah, yeah, Like I'm good.
- 2:04Speaker 1: That was a fun story. But they took this concept
- 2:07Speaker 1: of a book where I read the book and I
- 2:08Speaker 1: was like, yeah, cool, we did it Chickens Sisters. But
- 2:11Speaker 1: I'm actively like, okay, is when it's season three? Have
- 2:16Speaker 1: you started filming yet? Are we getting your feason three? Like,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I'm still very much in on mare.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I feel like I'm more interested in season three than
- 2:23Speaker 2: I was in season two, Like at the end of
- 2:25Speaker 2: season one, yeah, oh, there's so many more places, like
- 2:28Speaker 2: I'm so much more invested in these characters. We solicited
- 2:33Speaker 2: some feedback from some of our listeners, and I want
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'm going to read a few of those throughout this episode,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and one of them from Chelsea. She says, I wasn't
- 2:41Speaker 2: a huge fan of season one, but being a completionist,
- 2:45Speaker 2: I watched season two anyway and was so impressed. I
- 2:47Speaker 2: care about the characters way more after the season and
- 2:50Speaker 2: actually look forward to seeing worse season three will take us.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And I think that really I liked season one, but
- 2:57Speaker 2: I think that speaks to my feelings about season two
- 3:00Speaker 2: as well, Like I'm so much more invested in these people. Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 2: going into season two, I was like, Okay, well, what
- 3:06Speaker 2: are we gonna do because we're not basing it on
- 3:08Speaker 2: the book anymore, so we're kind of flying blind here.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Let's start with your thoughts on Nancy in this season.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, when I was on it was the very beginnings
- 3:23Speaker 1: of Nancy discovering that she had a voice and could
- 3:26Speaker 1: use it. And that rest of that season, you know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: she gets that petition sign, she's that you know, the
- 3:35Speaker 1: storm where she's like, no one's reading the siren and
- 3:40Speaker 1: Gus kind of makes the comment of like, well, I
- 3:41Speaker 1: guess it's you, and Nancy's like, darn right, it is me,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and then just her like just taking charge, telling the pastor, Like, Hey,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I've been the woman behind the man my whole life,
- 3:53Speaker 1: and this is just another one of those situations like
- 3:56Speaker 1: I need to be the woman behind the woman, like
- 3:58Speaker 1: you know. And then that one little line at the
- 4:01Speaker 1: end where it was like, hey, mayoral elections, they're coming up,
- 4:04Speaker 1: Like yes, Nancy, like figure out who you are. You
- 4:07Speaker 1: have a voice, you were strong, you were capable, and
- 4:10Speaker 1: I'm so excited, like I want to see this may
- 4:13Speaker 1: oral race, Like I want to see Nancy run mayor next.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I know, at the end of the I think it
- 4:18Speaker 2: was episode six, like when we start to learn that
- 4:21Speaker 2: the storm is coming and she goes to town hall
- 4:24Speaker 2: and he's not there, I was like, is Nancy.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Gonna run for mayor? And I was so glad.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I kind of like was like a throwaway comment, but
- 4:30Speaker 2: I was so glad we kind of got to see
- 4:31Speaker 2: that come out. And like, Nancy just kicked everyone's ass
- 4:36Speaker 2: this season.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, a slightly slow start for her, and then once
- 4:40Speaker 1: she hit running, she just she just took up and
- 4:42Speaker 1: I was just so happy to see her, you know
- 4:44Speaker 1: where you know, she has the conversation with Frank where
- 4:47Speaker 1: she's like, you've let the family down, like I haven't
- 4:49Speaker 1: let you down like you've let us down. And it
- 4:51Speaker 1: was just like yeah, yeah, Nancy, Yeah, I loved it.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Like she apologizes to him, but she's like, you owe
- 4:57Speaker 2: me an apology too, and stands on that.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I loved it. I loved all of it.
- 5:03Speaker 2: We never learned, as far as I know, what the
- 5:06Speaker 2: pastor was doing on his trip.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It was just this like.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Vague building housing. They mentioned building at some point.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but then like are they leaving the town pastorless?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Like what's happening? I was like, he's going to be
- 5:22Speaker 2: gone for all these months. This small town certainly doesn't
- 5:24Speaker 2: have multiple churches on every corner. He's like the town pastor, so.
- 5:29Speaker 1: He's a punt paster.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Well, let's talk about my personal biggest disappointment of the season, Clayton. Yes, yep,
- 5:39Speaker 2: you know that scene we had when he goes to
- 5:43Speaker 2: Gus and like offers her an explanation of his life,
- 5:46Speaker 2: and you see the way like she takes this is
- 5:48Speaker 2: early in the season.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Was that the episode you were on? I can't even remember.
- 5:52Speaker 1: She like talks it, she takes it all in and it's.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Such like beautiful acting from Wendy Malick, and you almost.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Feel like okay, like Gus is like this moment.
- 6:01Speaker 2: And then I was skeptical of Clayton from the jump,
- 6:05Speaker 2: like when he goes to May and she just like
- 6:08Speaker 2: accepted him, and I was like, wait, you need to
- 6:11Speaker 2: ask for more from him, Like why aren't you asking
- 6:13Speaker 2: where he's be And then from then on it was
- 6:16Speaker 2: just disappointment after disappointment after disappointment.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he was one of those storylines where he came
- 6:22Speaker 1: in and right from the jump like too good to
- 6:24Speaker 1: be true, and it was one of those things where
- 6:27Speaker 1: it's like, could these women have just this thing that's
- 6:30Speaker 1: just good from the get go where it's you know,
- 6:32Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be good through hard work or
- 6:35Speaker 1: through you know, you know, it's just like, here's this
- 6:37Speaker 1: man who has loved them from Afar and he's finally
- 6:40Speaker 1: in a place where he can be here. I was like, great,
- 6:43Speaker 1: we have this great storyline and then turns out no,
- 6:46Speaker 1: we don't. Turns out he's not who we thought he was,
- 6:49Speaker 1: or he's exactly who we thought he was, right.
- 6:51Speaker 3: He's only here for a good time.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Could That was such a hard scene to watch, that
- 6:56Speaker 2: dinner scene at Mime's where he's talking about like their
- 7:01Speaker 2: future and their plans, and you can see Gus processing
- 7:05Speaker 2: it because Gus his future is not outside of Marrinac.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Like she finally has this relationship with her daughters and
- 7:12Speaker 2: she's like, this is where I want to be. I
- 7:14Speaker 2: don't want to travel the world with you. And when
- 7:17Speaker 2: she collapses, that's I think the moment where anybody who
- 7:20Speaker 2: wasn't skeptical of him is like, oh, he's not this
- 7:23Speaker 2: is not gonna go well. And then he was the
- 7:25Speaker 2: worst nurse ever.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I was right there with Nancy screaming at the
- 7:29Speaker 1: TV where she's like, well, did you give her food?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Did she take food? With the medication? He's like, I
- 7:33Speaker 1: took care of it. And it's like, sir, it's a yes,
- 7:35Speaker 1: no question. It's like if you gave her food, it's
- 7:39Speaker 1: a very quick yes. And the fact that you won't
- 7:41Speaker 1: answer it, Yeah, this is like two hours of your life.
- 7:44Speaker 3: How hard is it?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Man? Oh? And then I mean hated that Gus had
- 7:49Speaker 1: to overhear it, but where Nancy like tells him off
- 7:53Speaker 1: and she's like, you are exactly who I thought you were. Oh. Man.
- 7:57Speaker 1: From these two women like hating each other to now
- 7:59Speaker 1: being like each other's fiercest protectors.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I like best friends. I loved it.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, and then Gus kind of has the opportunity
- 8:06Speaker 2: to repay the favor in that storm episode when she's
- 8:08Speaker 2: in the basement with Frank Junior and she's like, look
- 8:11Speaker 2: around at what your mother has created. And it was
- 8:14Speaker 2: interesting because Gus can kind of relate to Frank Junior
- 8:17Speaker 2: in being flawed and having some sins to have atoned for.
- 8:23Speaker 2: But she really is, I think, finally the voice that
- 8:27Speaker 2: gets through to him and all of this, yes, which
- 8:31Speaker 2: you know they go in so contentious. I thought that
- 8:33Speaker 2: basement scene was so well done. Well, let's talk about
- 8:37Speaker 2: Frank Junior. Yeah, because one of our listeners, Amy asks,
- 8:42Speaker 2: what did y'all think of Frank Junior's redemption arc in
- 8:45Speaker 2: the last episode. I'm not one hundred percent sure I
- 8:47Speaker 2: bought it. While watching, I just kept thinking, okay, so
- 8:50Speaker 2: Frank is good now, and then once we got to
- 8:52Speaker 2: the end, it all made sense. I hope they go
- 8:55Speaker 2: through on killing him, and if they do, I guess
- 8:57Speaker 2: I don't mind them giving him a good send off.
- 9:00Speaker 2: So what are your thoughts on Frank Junior's redemption in
- 9:03Speaker 2: this finale?
- 9:05Speaker 1: I don't think that it was fake. Like I do
- 9:07Speaker 1: think he started to see what he had done. He
- 9:10Speaker 1: had started to see the part he played. You know,
- 9:14Speaker 1: that wasn't just Amanda's fault for leaving him, Like he
- 9:16Speaker 1: played a part in that marriage demise. His family didn't
- 9:20Speaker 1: like necessarily, they didn't like leave him on Kitchen Showdown,
- 9:24Speaker 1: like he had the choice to, you know, I mean
- 9:26Speaker 1: it was like all these things where it's like I'm
- 9:27Speaker 1: not necessity. He was realizing that he's not necessarily the victim,
- 9:30Speaker 1: like he played a part of these and he had
- 9:32Speaker 1: choices too. And I definitely think, you know, there was
- 9:36Speaker 1: this like there's more adults, and I was just like, oh,
- 9:38Speaker 1: we blanket forgive you. You said sorry, you signed the
- 9:42Speaker 1: divorce papers. Great, everything's good now. Like I definitely think
- 9:45Speaker 1: there were steps where he was like I'm trying to
- 9:47Speaker 1: prove that I am this person. And so it was
- 9:50Speaker 1: like one of those like or I like I said,
- 9:52Speaker 1: which it's ready for him to be killed off, and
- 9:54Speaker 1: like he was just so mean and you know, taking
- 9:57Speaker 1: back the family recipe and just everything he did just
- 10:00Speaker 1: seem so evil and just so why like why are
- 10:03Speaker 1: we doing this? Fr genior and so I kind of
- 10:06Speaker 1: bought it, and then when he starts climbing up that ladder,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I was like, no, like they finally got me to
- 10:14Speaker 1: care about this character, and now it's Hallmarks. So I
- 10:17Speaker 1: don't think they're gonna kill him off. I don't know.
- 10:21Speaker 1: It just doesn't seem very hallmarked, like start to give
- 10:24Speaker 1: someone a redemption arc and then kill them in the
- 10:25Speaker 1: middle of that arc. But I don't know. I mean,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Well, I think the show goes a lot of places
- 10:33Speaker 2: that Hallmark doesn't always go to that point. Another Aaron
- 10:37Speaker 2: says it's refreshing to see a show focused on women
- 10:39Speaker 2: supporting women, showing that people can change and become better
- 10:42Speaker 2: versions of themselves. Shines a real light on mental health
- 10:45Speaker 2: while maybe not going deep enough. Gus is hoarding tendencies
- 10:49Speaker 2: in mayze anxiety, and then of course there are relationships,
- 10:52Speaker 2: but they aren't the main focus. I do think that
- 10:55Speaker 2: this is kind of a little bit of a departure
- 10:57Speaker 2: of Hallmark's normal formula, still working within the Hallmark parameters.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I said all along, I don't want a Frank Junior
- 11:04Speaker 2: redemption story.
- 11:05Speaker 3: It don't make me.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Want that, And then I did buy it. In the
- 11:10Speaker 2: final episode, like it felt genuine and I agree with you,
- 11:13Speaker 2: like he has a long way to go. It's not
- 11:15Speaker 2: one and done. He has to continue to behave this way.
- 11:19Speaker 2: But he seemed contrite and he seemed genuine. And my
- 11:23Speaker 2: favorite part is when he's having that moment after the
- 11:26Speaker 2: storm with all of the women. You can see Frankie
- 11:29Speaker 2: in the background watching it, and I liked that she
- 11:33Speaker 2: was getting that moment where now she doesn't have to
- 11:36Speaker 2: choose sides. Now she doesn't have to keep these two
- 11:38Speaker 2: parts of her life separate, Like she can have both
- 11:41Speaker 2: parents and she can have a relationship with everybody without
- 11:43Speaker 2: having to balance as the one in the middle. Which
- 11:48Speaker 2: was really the only reason I wanted the redemption. You know,
- 11:52Speaker 2: I wanted it for Nancy because she deserved to, she
- 11:55Speaker 2: wanted it so badly, But I wanted it for Frankie too,
- 11:59Speaker 2: to make life easier on her. I kind of felt
- 12:03Speaker 2: like when he's walking up that ladder, I'm like, why
- 12:04Speaker 2: didn't I see this coming?
- 12:05Speaker 3: Why didn't I see that it was now too good
- 12:08Speaker 3: to be true?
- 12:09Speaker 2: And then they were gonna just like rip it away
- 12:11Speaker 2: and I didn't. And then as soon as he starts
- 12:13Speaker 2: climbing it with the voiceover, I thought.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that first wobble of the ladder. I was like, yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 1: come on, yeah. And the thing I like about his
- 12:24Speaker 1: redemption is, yeah, Frankie gets to see that there is
- 12:27Speaker 1: some healing here, Nancy gets to have that moment with
- 12:30Speaker 1: her son. But I liked that they went through with
- 12:33Speaker 1: the divorce, like it wasn't just a man's like, oh,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you've changed, let's work on this. It was like, no,
- 12:40Speaker 1: there was love here and there can be a different
- 12:44Speaker 1: form of love in the future, but like this path
- 12:46Speaker 1: for us is no longer working, and it's all like,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I think that's the part of the redemption arc. I
- 12:50Speaker 1: would have been like why.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I hated that.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I would have hated him in Amanda getting body, Yeah, but.
- 12:54Speaker 1: He realized that, like, you know, this part is ending
- 12:58Speaker 1: now for both of us to heal, we need to
- 13:00Speaker 1: and so I like, if we're gonna get a frank
- 13:02Speaker 1: redemption arc, they did it in a way then I
- 13:05Speaker 1: was like yes, Now, like I don't I didn't see
- 13:07Speaker 1: it coming, but now I'm rooting for this character.
- 13:09Speaker 2: No, I know, well, the slowest slow burn ever Amanda
- 13:14Speaker 2: and Sergio. Finally, finally, I just was like, could we
- 13:20Speaker 2: drag this out? Like what you know, they couldn't have
- 13:23Speaker 2: kissed during the storm. We couldn't have had something else.
- 13:26Speaker 2: So I'm glad we finally get to see that.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I've never lived through a storm like that. But
- 13:34Speaker 1: if I'm in a building just me and the guy
- 13:37Speaker 1: have a crush on and like glass is getting blown
- 13:40Speaker 1: out everywhere, and it looks like we don't like we
- 13:43Speaker 1: don't know what's gonna happen for sure.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Kiss, like just kiss it exactly like this.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Ending around kiss him shuttled under this counter together, like
- 13:57Speaker 1: couldn't possibly needs an distraction for his fear.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Kiss, But you just just blame your fear after the
- 14:03Speaker 2: fact if you feel like you need an excu Yes.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You're like sorry, you were freaking out. I thought we
- 14:09Speaker 1: were gonna die. It seemed like the perfect time.
- 14:11Speaker 2: I loved the wedding. I love the wedding. I thought
- 14:14Speaker 2: the wedding was perfect.
- 14:15Speaker 3: For the situation. What did you think about the wedding?
- 14:18Speaker 1: I loved it. Like there is a lot about May
- 14:22Speaker 1: that I like. I just see a lot of myself
- 14:25Speaker 1: and her, you know, when like I do, not not
- 14:28Speaker 1: to the extent that she does, but I definitely like
- 14:30Speaker 1: to have things organized and things are in their place,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and when everything is going great, you know, when my
- 14:37Speaker 1: job isn't stressing me out. When I when I see
- 14:39Speaker 1: like I'm really nailing the friend thing and I'm sleeping, well,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I do let my organization like slide because I'm like, yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 1: who needs these routines And then all of a sudden,
- 14:49Speaker 1: like the routines get out of control and I'm like
- 14:51Speaker 1: they were there for a reason, and I just feel
- 14:55Speaker 1: like May has done all this growth. I didn't see
- 14:59Speaker 1: it coming, and I probably should have. When she and
- 15:02Speaker 1: Jay are fighting about the wedding is such a good
- 15:05Speaker 1: She was like, she was like, see all these people
- 15:08Speaker 1: are like they're alone and he's and because I was
- 15:10Speaker 1: just like, you guys have had this fight, yes, where
- 15:13Speaker 1: he was like you just think I'm gonna leave, and
- 15:15Speaker 1: I was like, come on, mabe, we've had this fight.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You know, he's not leaving, and She's like no, She's
- 15:20Speaker 1: like it's me, like I'm the cursed one, and I
- 15:22Speaker 1: was like, oh.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Smith, such a good flip. I know, I didn't see
- 15:28Speaker 2: it coming.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Either.
- 15:28Speaker 3: That's one of my favorite scenes in the whole series.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Or he was just like no, it is it is
- 15:33Speaker 1: like me and he's like, whether you leave or not,
- 15:35Speaker 1: like like I want you for it, however long I
- 15:38Speaker 1: can have you.
- 15:39Speaker 2: And I was like, I know, the good guys in
- 15:41Speaker 2: the show are so good, you know, Sergio and Jay,
- 15:44Speaker 2: and then little Grusterer comes back and is helpful to
- 15:47Speaker 2: Sabrina and like, you know.
- 15:49Speaker 1: It doesn't just comes in with like it's three lines.
- 15:52Speaker 2: No, Grescher and Sabrina can have their moment in season three.
- 15:56Speaker 2: If yeah, season three.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I'm sorry. We calls the heart and have thirteen seasons,
- 16:00Speaker 1: they can give you one more.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Right, Okay?
- 16:04Speaker 2: Is there something that was missing for you from this
- 16:08Speaker 2: finale or from this season?
- 16:10Speaker 1: I mean what we talked about. So I was on
- 16:12Speaker 1: episode four, so right in the middle of the season,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and now I cannot think of her name, but Frankie
- 16:18Speaker 1: and her friend lindsay, I feel like we I mean,
- 16:22Speaker 1: it's tough because like I feel like we kind of
- 16:24Speaker 1: dropped that potential storyline by the hand too. I do
- 16:28Speaker 1: love the growth of Frankie realizing that this the relationship
- 16:32Speaker 1: she was in with Dudley, was that his name Dudley,
- 16:36Speaker 1: and like like realizing that that wasn't for her, and
- 16:39Speaker 1: so I kind of I really loved that growth from her,
- 16:42Speaker 1: but then I just feel like there weren't even like
- 16:44Speaker 1: moments between the two of them where I felt that
- 16:47Speaker 1: same chemistry, Like we just kind of dropped. I'm a
- 16:51Speaker 1: little apprehensive for season three. But maybe they were taking
- 16:54Speaker 1: a step back to let the other storylines shine and
- 16:57Speaker 1: wrap up, and then we'll get this beauty full like
- 17:00Speaker 1: Nancy running for mayor and Lindsay and Frankie realizing that
- 17:05Speaker 1: they like each other. I don't know, but yeah, I
- 17:07Speaker 1: feel like that was missing.
- 17:08Speaker 3: That's my biggest myths too.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I you know, they were hinting at it, it felt
- 17:13Speaker 2: to me, especially the scene where Lindsay's talking to Frankie
- 17:18Speaker 2: about it and she's talking about how she's never kissed somebody,
- 17:22Speaker 2: and Lindsay's voice goes way up in the conversation and
- 17:27Speaker 2: she's tim look, they've never outright said anything. This has
- 17:32Speaker 2: all been things that people have inferred to me. Especially
- 17:35Speaker 2: at the end of season one, it felt very much
- 17:37Speaker 2: like it was more than like a friendship longing when
- 17:40Speaker 2: they left each other, like it was more than just
- 17:42Speaker 2: like I'm saying goodbye to my friend. And I felt
- 17:44Speaker 2: like with the Dudley of it all. Lindsay's micro reactions
- 17:48Speaker 2: to all of that felt like we were getting hints
- 17:51Speaker 2: of that. I didn't see so much of it reciprocated
- 17:54Speaker 2: in Frankie Frankie. It felt more like best friend energy.
- 17:58Speaker 2: So I don't I don't know what they're gonna do.
- 18:01Speaker 2: I've said all along, I don't know if they're gonna
- 18:03Speaker 2: go there. I wish they would, like I ship them
- 18:06Speaker 2: so hard, but they're living together in New York. I
- 18:10Speaker 2: did think it was a wild choice of Demanda was like,
- 18:12Speaker 2: text me when you find an apartment. It's like these
- 18:14Speaker 2: two eighteen year olds are just gonna go off from
- 18:16Speaker 2: the city and figure out where to live on their own. Like,
- 18:18Speaker 2: I mean, I know I'm a helicopter parent, but I
- 18:20Speaker 2: think there's like a balance in there. Maybe maybe well
- 18:23Speaker 2: I guess Sabrina could probably help them. So I don't
- 18:26Speaker 2: know where we're going with that. I really want to
- 18:29Speaker 2: see something happen there though, And I guess I'm.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Just gonna be about women supporting maman and just these
- 18:34Speaker 1: two girls. But yeah, I just feel like until the
- 18:37Speaker 1: second half of season two, I just felt the chemistry
- 18:40Speaker 1: between them was just jumping through the screen, and so
- 18:44Speaker 1: I would just love to see these two girls fine happiness.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Me too, me too?
- 18:51Speaker 2: All right, is there anybody we've missed on the show.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Sawna continues to just be the best background character ever.
- 19:00Speaker 1: When the publishing deal, when that guy comes in and
- 19:03Speaker 1: he is just a jerk to Amanda about like, oh
- 19:07Speaker 1: you speak to you know, the board housewife, and she's like,
- 19:10Speaker 1: what are you talking about? I did think the whole
- 19:13Speaker 1: time the original woman the editor, so that like the
- 19:18Speaker 1: one who first connected Amanda with the book deal. She's
- 19:21Speaker 1: given him this side eye. So I was kind of
- 19:24Speaker 1: waiting for her to come back and be like, we
- 19:27Speaker 1: need to get rid of him, like everything you said
- 19:30Speaker 1: is what I want. Like, I was kind of waiting
- 19:31Speaker 1: for that moment because the way she was reacting, I
- 19:34Speaker 1: was like, something's going on here. But then we don't
- 19:36Speaker 1: see her again, and then Sean is just like, hey,
- 19:39Speaker 1: you're in a book series everyone loves I wrote in
- 19:43Speaker 1: I self published, and I was just like, this girl,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I like, you know. In the beginning of season one,
- 19:49Speaker 1: I feel like all of her side hustles were kind
- 19:52Speaker 1: of a joke, just like here's this, you know, here's this,
- 19:54Speaker 1: you know, Midwestern woman who's selling leggings and selling wine
- 19:59Speaker 1: and where he you have the diner d D. And
- 20:01Speaker 1: then really she's just like, no, I can. I'm gonna
- 20:03Speaker 1: buy the Chicken Sisters and franchise it. I'm gonna publish
- 20:06Speaker 1: your novel, like I am just here to be you know.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I love women supporting women. I love the you know.
- 20:14Speaker 1: It's just like when she was like, yeah, I'm just
- 20:15Speaker 1: going to publish your novel, I was like, yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 2: It's one of my favorite reveals when she's like, this
- 20:20Speaker 2: smut novel that we've seen throughout this entire series.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I wrote that. I loved that.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I loved and it was so funny because it was
- 20:28Speaker 2: such a great element of this season, like that, you know,
- 20:33Speaker 2: it kept working its way in and then that reveal
- 20:36Speaker 2: that it was Shawna's I almost felt like, because I
- 20:39Speaker 2: think she's like, I'm huge on book talk, which made
- 20:41Speaker 2: me laugh so hard. But I almost felt like it
- 20:43Speaker 2: was one of those things that maybe they hadn't planned out.
- 20:45Speaker 3: They're like, wouldn't it be great if.
- 20:46Speaker 2: It turns out that this like smut series that they're
- 20:49Speaker 2: all reading is written by Shauna? It was perfect. I
- 20:53Speaker 2: read that scene with that toxic masculine publisher dude who
- 20:59Speaker 2: comes in and take it and it's like, oh, little lady,
- 21:01Speaker 2: like you know you're gonna be the everyday board housewife.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I really was like, why isn't this other woman like
- 21:08Speaker 2: stepping in more? Why isn't she saying like that's that's
- 21:11Speaker 2: not what we're doing here? Because she had already made
- 21:13Speaker 2: the deal and you could just see her like she
- 21:15Speaker 2: obviously knew who he was and she knew his vibe,
- 21:20Speaker 2: and so I kind of was like, why aren't you
- 21:22Speaker 2: that is her boss? But she just kind of took
- 21:26Speaker 2: a back seat to him, and that was kind of
- 21:29Speaker 2: a bummer.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I don't know if it was like a written scene
- 21:36Speaker 1: direction or if it was the actor's choice, but she
- 21:39Speaker 1: really reacts strongly to all the like misogynistic things he's saying.
- 21:45Speaker 1: And then when Amanda is speaking up for herself, that
- 21:48Speaker 1: woman is in the corner like and she's like reacting
- 21:51Speaker 1: so and but then she just leaves, like she doesn't
- 21:53Speaker 1: say a word, she just leaves, And so it was like,
- 21:56Speaker 1: were you supposed to go that off? Was that just
- 21:59Speaker 1: a first old choice that they kept in because I
- 22:03Speaker 1: and maybe she'll come back in season three, but it
- 22:05Speaker 1: just felt like she went so hard to then never
- 22:08Speaker 1: say another line in the show and just leave.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought it was weird. I agree, I thought
- 22:12Speaker 3: it was weird.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Well, are there any thoughts you have on the series
- 22:17Speaker 2: that we haven't covered yet?
- 22:18Speaker 1: I don't think so. I know it's typically in a
- 22:22Speaker 1: TV show, especially when it's related to Hallmark. I feel
- 22:25Speaker 1: like one of the things you root for is for
- 22:28Speaker 1: someone to find their happier rafter and you know to
- 22:30Speaker 1: you know, Nancy all sudden finds this really nice pastor
- 22:34Speaker 1: and you know, Gus's first love comes back to town
- 22:37Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, this is so great. But I
- 22:39Speaker 1: really think those two women shine fast together, yeah, like
- 22:44Speaker 1: without and so like I really hope you know, there's
- 22:47Speaker 1: There was one Hamewark movie, Christmas movie a couple of
- 22:51Speaker 1: years ago where I really thought the ending was going
- 22:54Speaker 1: to be if this woman realizes she doesn't need a
- 22:56Speaker 1: man in her life, that's the dream, right, Like like
- 23:00Speaker 1: she's like, you know, strong enough to do it. On
- 23:02Speaker 1: the cell, she she thinks her husband's dead this whole time,
- 23:05Speaker 1: so she's like really learning that she's strong enough to
- 23:08Speaker 1: raise their daughter without him. And I was like, wow, homework,
- 23:12Speaker 1: is really doing this, and then turns out the husband
- 23:14Speaker 1: was never dead. He comes back the Christmas Miracle, and
- 23:16Speaker 1: I was like, oh, okay, which I'm sad, I'm happy
- 23:19Speaker 1: he's not for sure sure, but it was like this
- 23:22Speaker 1: moment where she like I remember her, like she's having
- 23:24Speaker 1: a pep talk in the mirror, where she's like, I
- 23:26Speaker 1: can do this, and and I just kind of hope
- 23:29Speaker 1: that we were we are getting that on this show,
- 23:32Speaker 1: and I hope it continues where these women are learning
- 23:34Speaker 1: that they are stronger together and that they you know,
- 23:36Speaker 1: they don't necessarily need anyone else, but they've built this
- 23:40Speaker 1: beautiful community that they can rely on. Now. I just
- 23:44Speaker 1: really hope that that continues in the show, that we
- 23:46Speaker 1: keep seeing these women show up for each other and
- 23:49Speaker 1: proving that those things you thought you couldn't do, you
- 23:52Speaker 1: can do them.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 2: I was, yeah, I agree with you, Because when David
- 23:55Speaker 2: James Elliott came back, I was like, yay, Gus, it's
- 23:58Speaker 2: gonna get a love interest. And then by the end
- 23:59Speaker 2: of the season and when she and Nancy are on
- 24:01Speaker 2: that playing together, I was like, yeah, that's where they're.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Supposed to be.
- 24:03Speaker 2: It's the right Then you know, they've they've lived their
- 24:07Speaker 2: life for men for entirely too long, and while it
- 24:10Speaker 2: would be fine for the both of them to have
- 24:11Speaker 2: a love interest in the future, I loved that that
- 24:14Speaker 2: was the conclusion.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just both taking their first flights together.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah, like in this moment, it's his friends supports each other.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Like I loved Dust getting to feel special and loved
- 24:26Speaker 1: and pampered. And it was kind of nice because I
- 24:29Speaker 1: feel like, you know, and this may just me be
- 24:31Speaker 1: projecting a storyline onto Gus, but having this man leave you,
- 24:35Speaker 1: you know you're in love with him, he leaves you
- 24:38Speaker 1: now have this child. A part of her has probably
- 24:40Speaker 1: always wondered like what would have happened if you stayed?
- 24:43Speaker 1: And I do think there is a nice beauty in
- 24:45Speaker 1: it where like she knows he might have stayed, but
- 24:48Speaker 1: he would not have actually stayed.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Yeah, and I didn't miss anything, right.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Like my you know, it's so getting to close that
- 24:54Speaker 1: door fully.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great point.
- 24:57Speaker 1: And then just kind of like be like, all right, cool,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't I don't need that I had, you know,
- 25:02Speaker 1: I have this and this is what I need right now.
- 25:04Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm so excited to see where Gus and
- 25:07Speaker 1: Nancy are off to and what they're gonna do. Just
- 25:10Speaker 1: more of the sister storyline between Amanda and May, them
- 25:13Speaker 1: just figuring figuring their lives out. Yeah, I just love
- 25:17Speaker 1: I just love everybody in the show.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah, they're all in such a good place. I Yeah,
- 25:21Speaker 2: Amanda and May coming together and being each other's biggest support.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I really liked that too. I hope we get more
- 25:27Speaker 2: of sabri Look, I just want a season three. I
- 25:29Speaker 2: think there's so much more to do with the show, and.
- 25:32Speaker 1: We need Sabrina to take like a more of a
- 25:35Speaker 1: lead role.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I mean, they sound a way to bring her back
- 25:37Speaker 2: naturally for this season, so I'm sure they can figure
- 25:40Speaker 2: out a way that makes sense for her to be
- 25:42Speaker 2: in Marynac in season three or in New York with
- 25:45Speaker 2: the girls, But we need her to close that loop
- 25:48Speaker 2: with Gresser. We need to see some three homewark.
- 25:50Speaker 3: We need to see.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we need it. I mean, they clearly listen to
- 25:54Speaker 1: our episode on season episode four, because they did give
- 25:58Speaker 1: us a lot of the storylines we're looking for. That's right,
- 26:01Speaker 1: So if they're listening to this season three.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Season three, we'll be back for seas.
- 26:07Speaker 1: So many more stories to tell, and Marina.
- 26:09Speaker 3: You know, it's a good show. We just need to
- 26:11Speaker 3: get more.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I don't think enough people are watching it.
- 26:14Speaker 3: I don't. I don't think enough people are watching it.
- 26:17Speaker 2: This is someone in our Facebook group said he doesn't
- 26:21Speaker 2: like chicken and he doesn't like fried food, which made
- 26:23Speaker 2: me laugh, So he doesn't watch the show.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I think if you don't have you never seen an
- 26:29Speaker 1: episode and you don't have anyone in your life watching it.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I do kind of think the title is off putting.
- 26:35Speaker 1: There's like a bear tree where you're like, I don't chicken, sister.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It's like it just it seems a little off putting.
- 26:42Speaker 1: But yeah, I'll have to work more on my friends,
- 26:45Speaker 1: you know, and post more on social media. You're like,
- 26:48Speaker 1: everyone needs to watch it.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Everyone needs It's so good petition for season three renewal.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Well, thank you for coming back.
