- 0:00Speaker 1: Anyway, staying with the Cypress theme, now, I want to
- 0:02Speaker 1: bring your attention to a group of ladies that I
- 0:04Speaker 1: know out there called the Soul Sisters. Now I've spoken
- 0:08Speaker 1: about them before after my visits to Cypress, and I've
- 0:12Speaker 1: got to know them quite well now and what they
- 0:14Speaker 1: and what they do they do something special, They do
- 0:16Speaker 1: something special for a cancer charity. Now I'm going to
- 0:20Speaker 1: blow me on trumpet a little bit here. But you
- 0:21Speaker 1: may not know this, but I've been a volunteer and
- 0:24Speaker 1: unofficial ambassador if you like, for Cancer Research UK for
- 0:28Speaker 1: over what I don't know, twenty twenty two years now,
- 0:30Speaker 1: putting on my pink outfit and standing up on stage
- 0:33Speaker 1: in front of thousands of people Race for Life events
- 0:36Speaker 1: all around the County of Kent. And my biggest honor
- 0:40Speaker 1: was being recognized and being invited by the late Queen
- 0:43Speaker 1: Elizabeth to a garden party at Buckingham Palace. No it
- 0:47Speaker 1: wasn't just me and the Queen. There was many many
- 0:49Speaker 1: volunteers there from all different types of charities that we
- 0:52Speaker 1: all felt really special having tea with the Queen. Now,
- 0:56Speaker 1: cancer isn't just in the UK, it is everywhere, and
- 1:00Speaker 1: the Sole Sisters of Pathworse Running Club hold two huge
- 1:03Speaker 1: events to raise money for the Pancer Patients Support Group
- 1:07Speaker 1: in Cyprus. They held a five k fun run walk
- 1:10Speaker 1: which was attended by two hundred and fifty runners, most
- 1:13Speaker 1: of them dressed in pink wigs, two two's pink t
- 1:16Speaker 1: shirts and flowery pink bras. Yes, and the men as
- 1:19Speaker 1: well included in that one. Now one year he actually
- 1:23Speaker 1: coincided with our visit and we went along and joined
- 1:25Speaker 1: in and it was called to Breast of Friends then,
- 1:29Speaker 1: but it was great fun. Well, there was an energetic
- 1:33Speaker 1: warm up and then the Boss Louis Boss club president
- 1:36Speaker 1: Sue Cawdrey, who herself has run over forty marathons, she
- 1:41Speaker 1: gave a short brief in and I caught up with Sue.
- 1:45Speaker 1: You know, we were walking. It was our last morning
- 1:48Speaker 1: in Cyprus, and we thought we'd just go for We've
- 1:51Speaker 1: got a little favorite walk just on the rocky coast
- 1:54Speaker 1: by Keralia Bay and the Pathforst Running Club are out
- 1:58Speaker 1: there doing an event, doing a little try try event,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and so I got chance to Sue, and she's an
- 2:03Speaker 1: amazing character that's been out there for eighteen years, and
- 2:07Speaker 1: it really hit home when she said you know what
- 2:09Speaker 1: it's like being on holiday for eighteen years. I thought, Oh,
- 2:12Speaker 1: what's the ideal that is? That's brilliant. I love that.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'll go home with that thought. But she puts loads
- 2:18Speaker 1: of workloads of energy into the Soul Sisters and to
- 2:21Speaker 1: the running club, and she needs a really, really big
- 2:24Speaker 1: pat on the back. Anyway, on the day she got
- 2:27Speaker 1: the runners going with a big blast of the airhorn
- 2:30Speaker 1: and a great fun time was had by all. Now,
- 2:34Speaker 1: the second event was held a couple of weeks later
- 2:37Speaker 1: up the hill in the Coral Star in Payer. If
- 2:40Speaker 1: you've ever been to Payer you might know the Coral Start.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Now this is a venue they hadn't used before as
- 2:45Speaker 1: the expected numbers had outgrown the previous venue. Two hundred
- 2:50Speaker 1: and forty people turned up for a coffee and a
- 2:52Speaker 1: cake morning, and they were joined by singer Luise Rioni
- 2:55Speaker 1: and as well as the twenty two strong B sharp
- 2:58Speaker 1: choir who volunteered this services. Now this ended up in
- 3:02Speaker 1: true a Soul Sister's tradition, in a bit of a
- 3:04Speaker 1: sing song and an ease up, and it was only
- 3:06Speaker 1: eleven o'clock in the morning. What are they like? Anyway?
- 3:10Speaker 1: The local community rallied round air. Local businesses donated raffle prizes,
- 3:15Speaker 1: seventeen lucky people going home with a prize. But once
- 3:18Speaker 1: again the main point of the fun event was to
- 3:20Speaker 1: raise money for the Cyprus Cancer Patients Support Group. Now,
- 3:25Speaker 1: during my stay, I joined some of the Soul Sisters
- 3:27Speaker 1: for breakfast and I was honored. You know, I was
- 3:29Speaker 1: the only man there. But once again I am an
- 3:32Speaker 1: honorary member of the Soul Sisters. Did you know that? Anyway?
- 3:35Speaker 1: I caught up with listen to this as well, a
- 3:37Speaker 1: breast cancer survivor and Soul Sister, Jackie Mizzen, and she
- 3:42Speaker 1: told me that the hard work and effort between the
- 3:44Speaker 1: two events raised a massive and nine thousand euros which
- 3:47Speaker 1: is nearly eight thousand pound and the money will go
- 3:51Speaker 1: towards helping to cover the cost of a specially equipped
- 3:54Speaker 1: bus with hydraulic wheelchair access. And I must just say
- 3:59Speaker 1: hello to a few of the other Soul Sisters. I
- 4:01Speaker 1: want to say hello to Greta Jeanette. Jeannette is Darryl's
- 4:06Speaker 1: wife and she's had to put up with Daryl running
- 4:09Speaker 1: for the last nineteen years and doing all his training
- 4:13Speaker 1: at the four day Challenge Anyway, it was nice to
- 4:15Speaker 1: meet you, Jeanette and our chatting to Truce. Now. Truce
- 4:19Speaker 1: is an organizer of walks with the Pathos Walking Group,
- 4:23Speaker 1: which is within the club, and she organized this walk.
- 4:27Speaker 1: She's got a portfolio of loads and loads of walks
- 4:30Speaker 1: and we've been on quite a few of them, and
- 4:32Speaker 1: we end up in places where we would never ever
- 4:35Speaker 1: have been before. In Cyprus, we have a little drive
- 4:38Speaker 1: out find a venue led by Truce's experience, was normally
- 4:43Speaker 1: a car park with a restaurant, and we pop in
- 4:46Speaker 1: and we put our order in so that they know
- 4:48Speaker 1: when they come back. There might be twenty five of
- 4:51Speaker 1: us come back and at least they know what we're
- 4:53Speaker 1: going to eat, and then we have lunch, have a chat,
- 4:56Speaker 1: and then if we go. What a great way to
- 4:58Speaker 1: spend the day. Now, I was introduced to some of
- 5:01Speaker 1: the other members, but I must apologize I can't remember
- 5:04Speaker 1: their names, but I will say that they did make
- 5:06Speaker 1: me feel very welcome. Now, cancer is all around the
- 5:10Speaker 1: world and these events one day will help to eradicate it.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So keep up the good work, you Soul Sisters. Now,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I was looking for a song to play for the
- 5:18Speaker 1: Soul Sisters last time I've played them as it's actually
- 5:21Speaker 1: called Soul Sister by Train, but decided to have a
- 5:24Speaker 1: little change. I think they will love this one, and
- 5:28Speaker 1: I think it's quite poignant actually, because two of the
- 5:31Speaker 1: members of this group, if you like, said he lost
- 5:35Speaker 1: their lives to cancer and the whole family was touched
- 5:38Speaker 1: by cancer, but it never stopped him from making this
- 5:40Speaker 1: absolute floor filler. As soon as you hear this, Soul Sisters,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I know you will be up dancing. So thanks for
- 5:48Speaker 1: the breakfast and we'll see you in May. By having
- 6:09Speaker 1: a mood for dancin Roman sin who I'm giving it
- 6:16Speaker 1: all to nas
