- 0:00Final segment with coach Oriama here on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show. They
- 0:04start for real on Wednesday against Dayton at the Excel Center, and that means
- 0:09an old friend comes to town, Tamika Williams as a head coach. That's
- 0:14a pretty good fight fivesome that's still involved in the game even twenty years later
- 0:19in some way, shape or form, whether it be on the floor in
- 0:22D's case or in other cases what sue Tamika Swinter doing. It's crazy.
- 0:29Yeah, yeah, they they transferred their love of the game to off the
- 0:36court. Yeah to me because coaching, so she's on the court but not
- 0:45playing. But they're they're always going to be connected and there'll always be you
- 0:55know, thought of as a group, but individually, you know, they've
- 0:59all accomplished tremendous things since they left Yukon. And the one thing that you
- 1:04know, even though they went in different directions, the one thing that's never
- 1:08changed is their love for the game and their passionate for the game and their
- 1:14ability to connect with people. And that's why they they're in the position that
- 1:19they're in. So I'm thrilled for them, and I'm thrilled for Tamika,
- 1:25because this is a great opportunity too, you know, coach in an area
- 1:34where you were born and a school that you're familiar with, and I just
- 1:41think she's going to do a terrific job there and I'm hopeful that you know
- 1:46that we can help her a little bit. You know, you've added two
- 1:49members to your staff. Yes, Jamal and Morgan are still with you in
- 1:53c D, but now you can add a few more. Tania's back.
- 1:56We'll talk to her in the next segment, and then you move Ben cancer
- 1:59up to an assistant coach after being the video coordinator for such a long time.
- 2:02However, what are their roles like with the with the program now that
- 2:07you have for uh yeah, for assistance between Jamel, Morgan and the other
- 2:13two, what's that dynamic like, Well, it's a very familiar one,
- 2:20that's for sure. Tanya having been here all those years and having coached Morgan
- 2:29and having coach JJ, you know, so there's a a familiarity. Is
- 2:38there's a sense of being back home for Tanya. We certainly with all the
- 2:45guards that we have, certainly needed someone like her. And and for Ben,
- 2:51you know, he's he was a coach and then got into the video
- 2:54aspect of it, and I had an opportunity to getting back on the court
- 2:59and still hang on to the video thing. So you know, he gives
- 3:05us a different insight, a different view because he's able to be when he's
- 3:10on the court, he's able to pull the kids over and in real time
- 3:14right there. You know, it's like a football, you know, the
- 3:19offense comes off the field and right away they got iPads in front of them
- 3:23and they're checking what happened getting coached and Ben is able to do that with
- 3:28them. So a huge improvement for our coaching staff, and I'm excited for
- 3:35them. You know, only get about a minute left here. I'm talking
- 3:38with Ben. How much time do you get during the half to look at
- 3:43a little bit of video before you go in to talk to your players at
- 3:46halftime to make adjustments. Well, if a halftime's fifteen minutes, and you
- 3:53know, you get in there and you've got some things you want to say
- 3:58or some things you want to do with your coaching staff, and you know,
- 4:01Ben's pretty good at putting together a couple of clips that we can see
- 4:04right away and then we can go to where the players are and review some
- 4:16things that we just saw and show it to them and and be able to
- 4:21again and in a quick way, you know, say this is what this
- 4:29is what's happening. Some players learn by doing, some by seeing, some
- 4:33by writing. Some have to you know, be able to experience it live
- 4:39on TV. So we're trying to hit them from all angles. And you
- 4:45know, in a short period of time. I think Ben puts together you
- 4:50know, eight or ten clips, and it'd be interesting to see how that
- 4:56works this year because the first time we can actually share it with the players,
- 5:00right, you know, as always, thank you and we'll see you
- 5:02tomorrow, all right, Bob, thank you. Tayny Cardoz is next along
- 5:06with Ben Canter as the U Kind of Women's Basketball Coaches Show continues in a
- 5:11moment here on Larfield
