FRAUD: Billy McFarland
In April 2017, thousands of ticket-holders arrived on Great Exuma in the Bahamas to find that Fyre Festival, sold to them through a massive influencer campaign as a luxury music event, did not exist as advertised. Billy McFarland was convicted of wire fraud and sentenced to six years in federal prison, but the restitution order remains largely unpaid, local Bahamian vendors have never been made whole, and the full accounting of where the money went is still disputed.
