- 2:41SPEAKER_04: You are the sunshine of my life.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: Why not stay around?
- 2:55SPEAKER_04: You are the apple of my eyes.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: Wherever you stay in the school.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you want the sunshine of my life.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: That's why always they wrong.
- 3:20SPEAKER_14: Little Stevie Wonder with accompaniment by uh Lil Rin.
- 3:25SPEAKER_11: At the very, very end there.
- 3:27SPEAKER_11: That was not a part of the original recording.
- 3:29SPEAKER_11: I know it was pretty good, but yeah.
- 3:31SPEAKER_14: I thought it was part of the original recording.
- 3:33SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 3:33SPEAKER_11: Oh, you flattered me.
- 3:35SPEAKER_14: He must have been about two or three years old when he recorded that song, so I was probably not even born yet.
- 3:41SPEAKER_11: Is it?
- 3:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 3:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I think that's one from the 70s.
- 3:44SPEAKER_14: Oh, there you go.
- 3:45SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah, it is.
- 3:46SPEAKER_11: You would have been in high school.
- 3:48SPEAKER_14: I would have.
- 3:48SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_14: Well, it depends.
- 3:50SPEAKER_14: If it was late 70s, no, early 70s, yeah.
- 3:53SPEAKER_14: I I got a uh FHS gadget of 1973.
- 3:58SPEAKER_11: My dad, as I've mentioned it many times before, and we'll continue to mention it, always said, because he also graduated from FHS at 74.
- 4:05SPEAKER_11: He said, your chant with sex, drugs, and LSD, we're the class of 73.
- 4:11SPEAKER_11: He swears up and down.
- 4:12SPEAKER_11: Is that true?
- 4:14SPEAKER_14: No.
- 4:14SPEAKER_14: It may have been a side thing, but yeah.
- 4:17SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 4:17SPEAKER_11: It wasn't the one they put in the yearbook.
- 4:19SPEAKER_14: No.
- 4:20SPEAKER_14: No, I don't believe so.
- 4:21SPEAKER_14: I have the 73 yearbook, so during a break, we'll go look and see, but I'm pretty sure.
- 4:26SPEAKER_11: Oh, I would love that.
- 4:27SPEAKER_11: I would love that.
- 4:28SPEAKER_11: I want to see TDJ.
- 4:30SPEAKER_14: It's the K SJE Sunday morning wake up call with my sunny friend Randy.
- 4:35SPEAKER_11: Ooh, and my beaming buddy Dave.
- 4:37SPEAKER_14: Oh, I like that.
- 4:39SPEAKER_14: Beaming, beaming, beaming.
- 4:40SPEAKER_11: And our radiant guest.
- 4:42SPEAKER_14: Oh, absolutely.
- 4:43SPEAKER_14: Valerie is here.
- 4:44SPEAKER_14: And Valerie, um, we've had her on before, but we're gonna get a little bit, we had her on for something different, but uh, we're gonna get a little bit deeper because she's actually an author, and I have her book right here in front of my in front of me.
- 4:56SPEAKER_14: And this is a good time of year for this too, with uh uh Easter right around the corner and all that kind of stuff.
- 5:02SPEAKER_14: So we'll go in in more depth with that.
- 5:05SPEAKER_14: Today's show because today March the ninth.
- 5:11SPEAKER_11: March 9th and what's right around the corner?
- 5:15SPEAKER_14: It's it's oh it's happening though right now.
- 5:17SPEAKER_14: It happened last night at midnight.
- 5:19SPEAKER_11: Oh it did, okay.
- 5:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 5:20SPEAKER_14: See you.
- 5:24SPEAKER_14: You can talk.
- 5:26SPEAKER_14: Please, please speak 2 a.m.
- 5:32SPEAKER_14: 2 a.m.
- 5:32SPEAKER_11: Um That's that's why I didn't even notice that it happened, is because my phone just does it for me.
- 5:38SPEAKER_14: Exactly.
- 5:39SPEAKER_14: Well, that's it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_14: You're absolutely right.
- 5:41SPEAKER_11: And I'm Daylight Savings time, yeah.
- 5:43SPEAKER_14: DST and I am not a fan at all.
- 5:48SPEAKER_14: So the show we're gonna call more sunshine?
- 5:50SPEAKER_14: Wait, really?
- 5:52SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 5:52SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 5:53SPEAKER_11: Really more sunshine?
- 5:55SPEAKER_14: No.
- 5:57SPEAKER_14: No, and I love the quote.
- 5:58SPEAKER_14: I wish we had an actual quote of it, but it's a Native American says only white man can think about taking an inch off the top of the blanket or six inches off the top of the blanket and adding it to the bottom blanket thinking has a longer blanket.
- 6:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah, uh I I I got the quote right here.
- 6:15SPEAKER_11: Uh only a white man would believe that you could cut off a foot off the top of the blanket, sew it onto the bottom of the blanket, and you'd be left with a longer blanket.
- 6:25SPEAKER_14: Well I I understand why they did it.
- 6:29SPEAKER_14: Um I never was a fan of it because I always worked early mornings.
- 6:34SPEAKER_14: Um so my sunshine was always throughout the day.
- 6:37SPEAKER_14: But when I started working the eight to six job, I kind of understood a little bit.
- 6:46SPEAKER_14: Exactly.
- 6:46SPEAKER_14: But I still don't agree with it.
- 6:48SPEAKER_14: I don't think we should do it at all.
- 6:50SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm with you.
- 6:51SPEAKER_11: What do you think, Valerie?
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: I think it has to be a national thing because my husband works in Colorado, so the state-by-state situation and New Mexico does it does it, but Colorado if the state don't do it and you work on the border like we are here in Farmington, uh it could be a pain in the butt to get the colour.
- 7:11SPEAKER_14: It's Arizona.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but if if like New Mexico changes, but Colorado does.
- 7:21SPEAKER_14: Yeah, well, I'm retiring in Arizona, so I won't have to deal with it anymore.
- 7:26SPEAKER_11: No.
- 7:27SPEAKER_11: Is that your biggest reason for wanting to retire to Arizona?
- 7:31SPEAKER_11: But it's gotta be one of them.
- 7:32SPEAKER_14: It is.
- 7:33SPEAKER_14: The thing about Arizona too is it's hot.
- 7:36SPEAKER_14: I mean, so they really you know, it's hot.
- 7:40SPEAKER_14: So the the extra hour to them is not a big deal.
- 7:43SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, they want less sun if they can help it.
- 7:46SPEAKER_14: Exactly.
- 7:47SPEAKER_14: Alright, well listen, I'm kind of excited about the music uh the playlist for today.
- 7:50SPEAKER_14: And of course, we're gonna we're gonna have the wonderful uh I think we're having Ren Rants, are we this segment?
- 7:56SPEAKER_14: We are.
- 7:56SPEAKER_11: I've been watching a lot of movies lately.
- 7:57SPEAKER_14: Perfect.
- 7:58SPEAKER_14: Um and of course I've got things that make you go, and then of course we'll have the wonderful Zan of Ren at the end of the show.
- 8:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah, a little bit of wisdom for you.
- 8:07SPEAKER_14: Yeah, exactly.
- 8:08SPEAKER_11: But all the songs I picked today have to do with sunshine.
- 8:11SPEAKER_11: You know, I like I just played, You Are the Sunshine of My Life, Stevie Wonder.
- 8:15SPEAKER_11: This next one is a little bit more from my generation.
- 8:18SPEAKER_11: This is Smash Mouth with Walking on the Sun.
- 8:21SPEAKER_14: Oh, I love this song.
- 8:22SPEAKER_11: Which is how you'd feel if you were in Arizona.
- 8:25SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 8:26SPEAKER_11: Valerie just got back from Phoenix.
- 8:41SPEAKER_19: Perfect homemade, take the wildest number, I understand the line of the rest of the back, go down and make both and they fall down with that one, bell, stop, come, and that's what they're doing.
- 11:39SPEAKER_13: Twice a year, I have to mess with my life and move the clock by one hour because of daylight saving time.
- 11:44SPEAKER_13: If you live in one of these places, you probably do too.
- 11:46SPEAKER_13: There's a bill through Congress trying to end that and put the US on permanent daylight saving time, but here's why maybe we should do the opposite.
- 11:52SPEAKER_13: Your brain's internal clock, which controls sleep, metabolism, hormones, and a bunch of other stuff, needs morning sunlight, or else it gets out of sync with the actual 24-hour day.
- 12:01SPEAKER_13: And extra sunlight too late in the day keeps our brains from making chemicals that promote good sleep.
- 12:05SPEAKER_13: If we go to permanent daylight saving time, like Congress has proposed, most of the country will wake up in darkness for most of the year, and most people will have too much daylight late in the day.
- 12:14SPEAKER_13: Researchers know that both of these can dangerously mess with your sleep and increase a bunch of other health risks.
- 12:19SPEAKER_13: Now, a few years ago I made a video where I said we should go to permanent daylight saving time, but I think I was wrong.
- 12:24SPEAKER_13: Permanent standard time instead would mean more morning light and not too much evening light and avoid all of this body clock chaos.
- 12:31SPEAKER_13: That little one-hour change can have serious impacts on your health.
- 12:35SPEAKER_13: Makes you wonder why.
- 12:36SPEAKER_13: Twice a year.
- 13:33SPEAKER_05: In the sunshine of your life I'm with you, my love.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: The light shining too on you.
- 14:00SPEAKER_05: I'll stay with you now.
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: I'll stay with you till my season driver I've been waiting so long to be well on going in the sunshine of your mama, mama, stop in wet, it's so dumb.
- 16:10SPEAKER_05: I've been waiting so I've been waiting so well I'll go in the sun.
- 16:43SPEAKER_14: You know, a sunshine of your love, you've that would have to be rather warm, don't you think?
- 16:48SPEAKER_11: Well, yeah, of course.
- 16:50SPEAKER_11: I I mean I would hope that the the sunshine of someone's love would be red hot, I would hope.
- 16:56SPEAKER_14: You would hope so.
- 16:57SPEAKER_14: Man, it's been a few years since I've experienced that red-hot love personally, but I don't know.
- 17:02SPEAKER_14: It is what it is.
- 17:03SPEAKER_14: It is the KSJE Sunday morning wake-up call with my ever-forward friend Ren.
- 17:10SPEAKER_11: Ooh, and my time-altering buddy Dave.
- 17:14SPEAKER_11: I made you a time traveler.
- 17:15SPEAKER_14: Yeah, you certainly did.
- 17:17SPEAKER_14: And we have a special guest today, and I and I and I'm gonna say this, and and everybody's gonna jump to conclusions, but uh uh Valerie and I kind of have an intimate relationship.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Very intimate.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:30SPEAKER_14: Yeah, well, she's had her hand in my mouth on several occasions.
- 17:34SPEAKER_11: Ooh, this is getting spicy.
- 17:37SPEAKER_14: She is my dental hygienist, and uh yeah, that's actually how I met her.
- 17:42SPEAKER_14: And I guess quite a good four or five years now, I guess.
- 17:46SPEAKER_14: How long has ginger?
- 17:47SPEAKER_14: Oh, longer than how long has ginger been gone?
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: At least five.
- 17:51SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it's it's been a while.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: At least five.
- 17:53SPEAKER_14: Yeah, but uh you yeah, and so I I've been going to that same dentist since I was a kid, or the family, although you know, since I was the very first trip to the dentist at all the the all ripe old age of sixteen.
- 18:05SPEAKER_14: So I know the family quite well, and I kind of lost track of them until Jinger went to work there and brought and I brought brought me back over there.
- 18:14SPEAKER_14: So and I actually love Dr.
- 18:15SPEAKER_14: T.
- 18:16SPEAKER_14: I love all the staff, a bunch of great people.
- 18:18SPEAKER_14: And the nice part about it is I always get a hug.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but by from somebody.
- 18:22SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I'm always getting hugs, so it's great, and he's very gentle in my mouth.
- 18:27SPEAKER_14: And Valerie is too, for that matter.
- 18:30SPEAKER_14: All right, well listen, I'm um excited because not only are you a hygienist, you're you're kind of a world traveler too, but I want to talk a little bit about this uh book that you have out.
- 18:39SPEAKER_14: Um and it's available via Amazon.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: Amazon, Barnes and Noble.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: All the majors.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh there's an ebook, you can get it on eBook.
- 18:48SPEAKER_14: It's called I Met the Virgin Mary in Lords.
- 18:52SPEAKER_14: Lords.
- 18:53SPEAKER_14: Lords.
- 18:54SPEAKER_14: Uh I kind of wanted to make that into a two-syllable word when I saw it, but I thought, I know, I know that's not Lord of the speech.
- 19:03SPEAKER_14: It's French.
- 19:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yes, indeed.
- 19:06SPEAKER_14: But it's a children's book, right?
- 19:10SPEAKER_14: And I can understand it, so it's written his speech.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: It's really I I think there's two words my husband said that kids won't know, so hopefully you know them.
- 19:20SPEAKER_14: Okay, well I I haven't read it yet, but I will.
- 19:23SPEAKER_14: It's not pilgrimage, is it?
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: No.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Immaculate and grotto.
- 19:28SPEAKER_11: He was like, that's good for him though, because then then they'll look it up.
- 19:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you gotta challenge that a little bit.
- 19:33SPEAKER_14: I'm not sure I know what grotto is.
- 19:35SPEAKER_14: I know immaculate is.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Isn't it like a like a garden or something?
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: So it's a cave.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: It's a natural formed cave that is into the wall, and it has about three sides, and there's usually close to water.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: So grotto.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: So there's it's uh in Lord, sits next to the river.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we'll we'll talk about the story here in a minute.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's beautiful, it's huge as this mountain, probably uh, I don't know, like probably inaccurate, but like 1600 yards tall, so it's huge.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so for lots of people to stack up in there and so it's this natural concavity in the mountainside, and there's a ledge where Mary appeared to Bernadette when she was 14.
- 20:24SPEAKER_11: That's beautiful.
- 20:26SPEAKER_11: Very uh uh informative and I love the the art.
- 20:30SPEAKER_14: Yeah, the art is really interesting.
- 20:32SPEAKER_14: I I I've just kind of been thumbing through.
- 20:34SPEAKER_14: I haven't uh read much of it yet, but uh I although I did read the biography about you in the back, which I thought was extremely interesting.
- 20:41SPEAKER_14: I want to go over some of it.
- 20:43SPEAKER_14: Um you you did a pilgrimage to Italy and France in twenty twelve.
- 20:48SPEAKER_14: Uh twenty twenty-three you took your second pilgrimage to Ireland, which is a place I'd like to visit.
- 20:54SPEAKER_14: Not that I wouldn't mind going to France or Italy, but to Ireland.
- 20:57SPEAKER_14: Um and uh you and your mother were able to visit like Enoch.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, Enoch is beautiful.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Um more operations were there, so that's the plan to be book two.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: I would like to go to these places that really helped with the illustrations, and so I want to do more pilgrimages and go and sopport me if uh fund my travel.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Yes, fund this new exciting kids' book series.
- 21:23SPEAKER_14: Well, sweet.
- 21:24SPEAKER_14: Maybe maybe when we do a Rin rant, which we're getting ready to do, maybe in the future you could do a rant on one of her books.
- 21:31SPEAKER_11: Oh, I would love that.
- 21:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah, no, I would love that.
- 21:34SPEAKER_14: That would be great.
- 21:34SPEAKER_14: That would be that just came to me.
- 21:37SPEAKER_14: Can you smell smoke?
- 21:38SPEAKER_11: Incredible dame.
- 21:40SPEAKER_11: It came in here just like an apparition.
- 21:42SPEAKER_11: And uh yeah, we're running a little bit out of time, so I'm gonna just do the Rin rant real quick.
- 21:46SPEAKER_14: Go for it.
- 21:53SPEAKER_15: How about a good ranting?
- 21:56SPEAKER_15: As ranters go, Ren's one of the best, whether it be a movie.
- 22:00SPEAKER_15: TV series, short film, book.
- 22:03SPEAKER_15: Who has time to read?
- 22:04SPEAKER_15: Hmm.
- 22:05SPEAKER_15: Probably not a book.
- 22:06SPEAKER_15: Here she is with the rant of the day.
- 22:09SPEAKER_11: I very well might change that after I read Valerie's book.
- 22:13SPEAKER_11: But okay, so today I'm talking about a movie that I think a couple shows ago I said, don't see because it's bad.
- 22:19SPEAKER_11: Well, I finally watched Amelia Perez.
- 22:21SPEAKER_11: Uh it was nominated for a bunch of Academy Awards at the uh Oscars, obviously.
- 22:26SPEAKER_11: And it was what I called the villain of the season because everybody said it was so bad it didn't deserve a single award.
- 22:32SPEAKER_11: Okay, well, I finally watched it, and let me tell you this.
- 22:35SPEAKER_11: I was disappointed to find out it was just fine.
- 22:38SPEAKER_11: I was ready for a terrible movie.
- 22:40SPEAKER_11: I was ready to make fun of it and laugh at it.
- 22:43SPEAKER_11: But no, it was just fine.
- 22:44SPEAKER_11: The story's not great.
- 22:46SPEAKER_11: Um it's it's a very controversial story about a uh Mexican crime lord who throws his whole crime lord life away so that he can transition into being a woman.
- 22:59SPEAKER_11: Uh it was a musical too.
- 23:00SPEAKER_11: Some of the songs were really good.
- 23:02SPEAKER_11: It was shot beautifully.
- 23:04SPEAKER_11: Like, I don't think there's a single shot in that movie that isn't gorgeous.
- 23:08SPEAKER_11: But the plot, the whole time, you're supposed to be rooting for this person who not that long ago was like a murderer, so it was really hard to root for them.
- 23:15SPEAKER_11: Anyway, Amelia Perez is fine.
- 23:18SPEAKER_11: If you're a big fan of musicals, maybe check it out.
- 23:20SPEAKER_11: If you're not, don't worry about it.
- 23:22SPEAKER_11: But yeah, not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
- 23:24SPEAKER_14: Oh well, there you heard it from Ren herself.
- 23:28SPEAKER_11: What wasn't that special?
- 23:30SPEAKER_15: Every week, a new rent.
- 23:31SPEAKER_15: She's relentless.
- 23:33SPEAKER_15: I mean relentless.
- 23:40SPEAKER_14: It is the K SJE Sunday morning wake-up call with my springy friend Ren.
- 23:46SPEAKER_11: My seasonal buddy Dave.
- 23:47SPEAKER_14: And we're on a new time.
- 23:48SPEAKER_14: If you haven't set your clocks forward an hour yet, you're gonna be late to work tomorrow.
- 23:52SPEAKER_11: Yes, yes.
- 23:52SPEAKER_14: Just so you know.
- 23:53SPEAKER_11: This is your final one.
- 23:54SPEAKER_14: Late or early.
- 23:56SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 23:57SPEAKER_11: Wait.
- 23:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah, because we we spring forward and we fall back.
- 24:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, there you go.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 24:02SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 24:02SPEAKER_14: I'd rather stay on fallback, but you know, I don't get a say.
- 24:05SPEAKER_14: They didn't ask me.
- 24:09SPEAKER_14: It automatically, yeah, you don't have to worry about resetting.
- 24:11SPEAKER_14: I've got some old ones in there that I gotta go and redo.
- 24:14SPEAKER_14: And this one, um, I already have it set, I think, to daylight savings time.
- 24:18SPEAKER_14: It's one or maybe not yet.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: It's because you never changed it from the fall.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Half the year you're right.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:29SPEAKER_14: Alright, well, listen, I'm loving the music, man.
- 24:31SPEAKER_14: Let's let's do something else.
- 24:32SPEAKER_14: And the show is more sunshine?
- 24:36SPEAKER_14: Really?
- 24:37SPEAKER_11: Is it really more sunshine?
- 24:39SPEAKER_11: Uh and I think that title kind of captures the surprise of waking up after daylight savings time and being like, oh my god, I'm a whole hour off.
- 24:48SPEAKER_11: Now, obviously, I think we're all anti-daylight savings time.
- 24:52SPEAKER_14: Um I didn't realize that you were.
- 24:55SPEAKER_14: I thought that you were gonna.
- 24:56SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, no.
- 24:57SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm anti-daylight savings time just because I think it's obsolete.
- 25:01SPEAKER_11: I think Valerie was looking up the real reason why it was created, but as far as I know, it was created because back in the day people used candles, so you really did need to adjust the day so that you had more daylight so that you could get more work done.
- 25:16SPEAKER_11: But maybe that's not what it really is.
- 25:18SPEAKER_11: Regardless, it's obsolete.
- 25:19SPEAKER_11: Let's get rid of it.
- 25:20SPEAKER_14: Okay, I'm game.
- 25:22SPEAKER_11: Instead, I'd rather just have a little pocket of sunshine I can open up and use anytime I want.
- 25:27SPEAKER_11: Much like Natasha Bettingfield.
- 25:29SPEAKER_14: We need a Queen Segway does it again.
- 25:33SPEAKER_11: With pocket full of sunshine.
- 25:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_09: I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine.
- 25:43SPEAKER_09: I got a love and I know that it's all I know.
- 26:17SPEAKER_09: I gotta love the little fullness on my name.
- 26:32SPEAKER_09: I gotta fucking find a splendid, I gotta love the little fitness on my thing.
- 27:09SPEAKER_08: Nobody knows where the rivers flow and I call it home, and there's no more lies in the dark message, and my body cries a little bit flying.
- 28:28SPEAKER_07: The sun is on my side, baked it for a right, I smile up to the sky, and know I'll be alright.
- 28:37SPEAKER_07: The sun is on my side, make it for a ride, I smile up to the sky, and know I'll be all right.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Too much of a good thing?
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: Hardly.
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: Why did the Scarecrow get promoted?
- 28:55SPEAKER_04: Because it was outstanding in its field.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: More of the wake-up call.
- 30:19SPEAKER_04: I can't afford his gas.
- 30:23SPEAKER_04: Storm stuck here watching TV.
- 30:31SPEAKER_04: I don't have to do.
- 30:35SPEAKER_04: I don't have to disquad.
- 30:38SPEAKER_04: It's not having what you want.
- 30:43SPEAKER_04: It's wanna what you got to be want to like Don't stop a biston I'm gonna stop a bust.
- 31:26SPEAKER_04: I've got a comic job.
- 31:30SPEAKER_04: It don't pay me back Two bad things today Doin' with some of your love Every time I turn around, I'm looking up, you lookin' down.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: Maybe something's wrong with you that makes you act the way you do, go to everyone to lie But every time I feel big, my dog in a stoke up the sun still free Don't stoke up the sun before it goes out on me Don't have no master sweet, but I'm still the king of me You have a fancy ride, but baby I'm the one who has the key Every time I turn around, I'm looking up, you're looking down.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: Maybe something's wrong with you that makes you act the way you do.
- 32:59SPEAKER_04: Maybe I am crazy too.
- 34:19SPEAKER_11: That's like a cool drink of water every time I hear that song.
- 34:22SPEAKER_11: Just refreshing.
- 34:23SPEAKER_14: You know, and I just love Cheryl Crow.
- 34:25SPEAKER_14: She's been all over Facebook social media lately, too.
- 34:28SPEAKER_14: Has she?
- 34:28SPEAKER_14: What's she been saying?
- 34:29SPEAKER_14: What's she been doing?
- 34:29SPEAKER_14: Nothing.
- 34:30SPEAKER_14: She just pictures of her and stuff that she's been doing and messing around.
- 34:33SPEAKER_14: But yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_14: Cheryl Crow's one of my all-time favorites as well.
- 34:37SPEAKER_14: It's the KSJE Sunday morning wake-up call with my little ray of sunshine red.
- 34:42SPEAKER_11: Aww.
- 34:43SPEAKER_11: And my golden buddy Dave.
- 34:44SPEAKER_14: There you go.
- 34:45SPEAKER_14: And our guest this morning, ooh.
- 34:47SPEAKER_14: See, I guess you don't want to call what she is.
- 34:50SPEAKER_14: Author, dental hygienist, um golden girl.
- 34:55unknown: Golden girl.
- 34:56SPEAKER_11: World Traveler.
- 34:57SPEAKER_14: World Traveler.
- 34:59SPEAKER_14: Valerie's.
- 35:05SPEAKER_14: I Met the Virgin Mary and Lourdes.
- 35:08SPEAKER_14: So you kind of tickled a little bit in the first part of the show about what the book was about.
- 35:14SPEAKER_14: So give us a short synopsis.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so um Bernadette was the oldest of nine kids.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: So she actually had cholera as a child, so she was chronically ill with asthma and stuff.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: And so they were walking, her and her sister and a friend were walking and going to get firewood.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: And they were crossing the river.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: And this is at the at the time, back in 1858, it's outside of town.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit of a walk.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: You're kind of going in the woods.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: So they're gathering some firewood, and she feels a gust of wind, but she doesn't like like it it's like nothing moves around her.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: So she kind of turns around, like, wait, what's going on?
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: And she sees the Virgin Mary kind of elevated in the rocks of the grotto there right behind her.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: So um her she had got broke up from her sisters because she was always so sick.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: She was trying to find rocks to step on across because you know, heaven forbid, she catches a cold.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: So in the 1800s, oh yeah.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that would not be good.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, with asthma and and I mean she was just sick all the time, it sounds like you know, we didn't have albuterol or any of that technology, so she had nothing to help her.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: So she sees an apparition and she goes over to the lady in in a white dress and a blue sash and a veil, and and there um the lady pulls out a rosary and she pulls out her rosary.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: She's actually carrying it in her pocket and she prays with her.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: And that was the first um apparition.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: There's a total of 18 apparitions that Mary and Bernadette shared over the course of a month.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: So it started in February of 1858.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: And a couple um Mary did speak to her, so um she was telling people and they didn't really believe her.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: So um eva even the father at the church, the pastor, like didn't believe her, and they said, Well, what's her name?
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: What's her name?
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: And and she kept asking her name, and Mary just smiled, and then finally she said, My name is the Immaculate Conception.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: And the little history of that, uh which of course I learned, is that only the biblical scholars knew of the Immaculate Conception.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: That was not a normal term that Mary was called back then.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: So when she went back to the father to say she said her name is Immaculate Conception, and the father said, Do you know what this means?
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: She's like, No father.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: And she was behind in her studies, she was always sick, so I believe she was homeschooled, but she was also behind in her religious studies, so she hadn't had communion, she hadn't had confirmation, she hadn't done all of the classes through the Catholic Church or anything to get her sacrament.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: So she really had no idea.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: So even though she was the oldest, she really was less knowledgeable.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: And that was really when the tides turned, they started to believe her in they really ridiculed her, but people a lot of people started coming to pilgrimages back then.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: And in one of the um apparitions, Mary had asked to build her a church.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: That was one of the last ones.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: And from what I understand, um in the history is that her father actually helped construct the church and was her family was there for the dedication.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: But she really did not like all of the publicity.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: So she actually went to the church convent in Never, which was a few hours away from Edwards, and she ended up going to the school, graduating, and joining the convent.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: And she actually died of pneumonia.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: I think she was 36.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: So and her body is incorruptible, she her body is not decaying.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: You can actually go see Bernadette in Never.
- 38:49SPEAKER_11: That's an amazing story.
- 38:51SPEAKER_11: It's an amazing story.
- 38:53SPEAKER_11: A very cool story, um one that you know kind of reminds me of Joan of Arc.
- 38:57SPEAKER_11: You know, there's been all these people throughout history that that say that they've seen and and spoken to higher powers, and and it's always just so fascinating.
- 39:07SPEAKER_11: It makes you wonder.
- 39:08SPEAKER_14: It does.
- 39:09SPEAKER_14: It does make you I actually just kinda that whole thing kind of made me go, but yeah, we got that covered up as well.
- 39:18SPEAKER_14: Listen, I really appreciate it.
- 39:19SPEAKER_14: I appreciate the book as well.
- 39:21SPEAKER_14: I'm gonna get you to design it before you go, but um I I I guess I'm I I you know, I always thought you were special.
- 39:28SPEAKER_14: We we we had kidded a lot from the time we the very first time you cleaned my teeth, I embarrassed you, but you found right back.
- 39:36SPEAKER_14: And so, um uh I I am so glad that I that I know you, and I'm glad you uh took the time to be with us today for sure.
- 39:43SPEAKER_14: But um, and we'll talk a little bit more about it before we get done with the show.
- 39:47SPEAKER_11: And maybe about the potential sequel.
- 39:49SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 39:50SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, we yeah, we need to talk about that.
- 39:52SPEAKER_14: This show is the KSJE Sunday morning wake up call with my warming friend Ren.
- 40:00SPEAKER_11: I was gonna say my groggy buddy day.
- 40:02SPEAKER_11: Groggy.
- 40:02SPEAKER_11: Groggy, because we are talking about daily savings time today.
- 40:05SPEAKER_14: I'm out of adjectives, by the way, so I'm gonna have to go.
- 40:08SPEAKER_11: Oh, I got some.
- 40:09SPEAKER_11: Don't you worry, I will share them with you.
- 40:12SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 40:12SPEAKER_14: Well, it is uh more sunshine wait!
- 40:16SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 40:17SPEAKER_11: Really is it more sunshine?
- 40:19SPEAKER_11: Um this this one Valerie recommended, which I can't even believe I didn't have on my playlist, so I totally put it on my playlist.
- 40:26SPEAKER_11: Um this is Bill Withers with Ain't No Sunshine.
- 40:29SPEAKER_14: Oh, oh yeah, good song.
- 40:31SPEAKER_14: This takes me back to my day.
- 40:32SPEAKER_11: There you go.
- 40:34SPEAKER_18: Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
- 40:40SPEAKER_18: It's not warm when she's away.
- 40:46SPEAKER_18: Ain't no sunshine when she's gone, and she's always gone too long.
- 40:53SPEAKER_18: Any time she goes away.
- 40:59SPEAKER_18: Wonder this time where she's gone.
- 41:05SPEAKER_18: Wonder if she's gonna stay Ain't no sunshine when she's gone, and this house just ain't no home.
- 41:17SPEAKER_18: Any time she goes away.
- 41:23SPEAKER_17: And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know leave the young thing alone, but ain't no sunshine when she's gone, ain't no sunshine when she's gone Only Darkness every day.
- 41:58SPEAKER_18: Ain't no sunshine when she's gone, she's house just ain't no more.
- 42:04SPEAKER_18: Any time she goes away Any time she goes away in a time she goes away, in a time she goes away.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: When I'm a walking, I strap my stuff, and I'm so strong out.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: I'm high as a kite, I just might stop to check you out.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: Let me go walk.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: Like I blister in the sun, let me go walk.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: Big hands, I know you're the one.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: I DM beats, I stay my cheeks, I don't even know why.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: My girlfriend, you said, yes, I need to cry.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: Let me go on like I blister in that sun, let me go on big hands, I know you're the one I'm a walk and I start a stop, and I'm stuck one out.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: I'm high as a kite, I just might stop to check and I'ma walk and I stuck I stop, and I'm still one out.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: Now I'm high as a guide, I just might stop Jack to run body and beef.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: I stay my cheek.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: I don't even know why.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: My girlfriend is that she is trying to cry.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: I'm out I'm high as a guy, I just got to go.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: Let me go.
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: I got blister in the sun.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: Big hands, I know you're on.
- 45:00SPEAKER_11: Ooh, Blister in the Sun by the Violet Fem Violent Fems?
- 45:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 45:05SPEAKER_11: That's something that made me went, hmm?
- 45:07SPEAKER_11: Here's something else.
- 45:10unknown: Things to make you.
- 45:12SPEAKER_16: Things that make you go free.
- 45:14SPEAKER_06: Things to make you go.
- 45:17SPEAKER_16: Alrighty tidy.
- 45:18SPEAKER_16: I don't know why I like to say that, but uh, these are some things that uh make you go who besides me going alrighty tidy.
- 45:26SPEAKER_16: That's right.
- 45:27SPEAKER_16: David's got it.
- 45:28SPEAKER_14: Here it is.
- 45:31SPEAKER_14: Alright, do you know that most of the world maps are wrong?
- 45:35SPEAKER_14: Most maps of the world are wrong.
- 45:36SPEAKER_14: Did you know that?
- 45:37SPEAKER_11: I mean, that's distressing.
- 45:40SPEAKER_14: On most maps, the Mercator projection, first developed in 1569, is still used.
- 45:50SPEAKER_14: The method is widely inaccurate and makes Alaska up here as large as Brazil and Greenland 14 times larger than it actually is.
- 45:59SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 46:06SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 46:07SPEAKER_14: It's it's Did I finally get another one to kind of make you go mmm?
- 46:10SPEAKER_11: It made me go, hmm, definitely.
- 46:12SPEAKER_11: It's something I didn't know.
- 46:14SPEAKER_11: You knew it.
- 46:16SPEAKER_11: Well, we knew.
- 46:17SPEAKER_11: I guess I'm the only one not in the know.
- 46:19SPEAKER_14: Well, I wasn't until I read that.
- 46:22SPEAKER_11: I was the last one to know.
- 46:23SPEAKER_11: But that kind of fits in with the daylight savings time theme of it being like obsolete, out of date.
- 46:29SPEAKER_11: Like we gotta freshen things up and do something right.
- 46:32SPEAKER_11: Get it right.
- 46:33SPEAKER_14: Are you proud of me, Randy?
- 46:34SPEAKER_11: I am proud of you.
- 46:36SPEAKER_11: For once in my life.
- 46:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah, let's go.
- 46:45SPEAKER_11: Um this one's uh another one once again from my generation.
- 46:49SPEAKER_11: I remember this one from when I was a kid.
- 46:50SPEAKER_11: This is Weezer with Island in the Sun.
- 46:53SPEAKER_14: Oh, I I know this one too.
- 46:54SPEAKER_14: It's a good tune.
- 46:55SPEAKER_11: I like Weezer.
- 46:56SPEAKER_11: Dip, dip.
- 46:57SPEAKER_11: It's the one that goes that.
- 47:10SPEAKER_04: When you're on a hard day, you can't find the words to say on the things that come to you And I want to feel on the night and then the sun Would be playing everyone And it makes me feel so fun I can control my brain When you're on the seat, it don't need no memory Just to play wrong This we just to go on the night, and then we'll see.
- 50:17SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 50:18SPEAKER_11: This one is daylight savings time related.
- 50:21SPEAKER_11: It comes to us from Ude Mukherjee.
- 50:25SPEAKER_11: Hope I said that alright.
- 50:27SPEAKER_11: Um Ude Mukherjee says, like we all sync our watches every year at the start and at the end of daylight savings time, we also need to sync our relationships once in a while.
- 50:42SPEAKER_14: That was great.
- 50:43SPEAKER_11: That's what I thought.
- 50:44SPEAKER_11: Thank you.
- 50:44SPEAKER_11: And it's definitely uh a feeling we've all had where you gotta touch base with someone, you gotta see where you two are at, if you need to invest more time into it or not.
- 50:53SPEAKER_11: So just this daylight savings time, use it as an opportunity to rethink your relationships with those important to you.
- 50:59SPEAKER_14: Alright, well, I'd like to take a quick moment and thank Valerie for coming.
- 51:02SPEAKER_14: I want to tell people how to get your book, I want you to tell people how to get your book.
- 51:06SPEAKER_14: I met the Virgin Mary and Lourdes.
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: Yes, uh Lords, L-O-U-R-D-E-S Lourdes.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: And it's on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple iTunes.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: Um you can look it up on those sources or just Google it.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: You can find my little video and everything, kind of the historical the trailer, video trailer that the publishing company did.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: It's awesome and gives you a little history background, shows some images of the location, beautiful location in Lord's France.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: Fascinating.
- 51:35SPEAKER_14: Fantastic.
- 51:36SPEAKER_14: Well, listen, thank you for taking time out of your Saturday afternoon.
- 51:39SPEAKER_14: Really appreciate it.
- 51:39SPEAKER_14: Ren and I both enjoyed you.
- 51:40SPEAKER_14: Thank you for the gummy exposition.
- 51:42SPEAKER_11: We've been munching on our gummies this whole time.
- 51:45SPEAKER_11: Uh and yes, please buy the book.
- 51:47SPEAKER_11: Please support Valerie so that she can write more.
- 51:49SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 51:50SPEAKER_11: She was telling us a really cute story about uh a shark, a shark with uh tooth fairy.
- 51:55SPEAKER_11: It's very cute.
- 51:55SPEAKER_14: Alright, well we'll have you back.
- 51:57SPEAKER_14: We'll have you back.
- 51:58SPEAKER_11: For the next one.
- 51:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:01SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 52:01SPEAKER_11: Well, we still got a little bit of time to kill, so yeah.
- 52:04SPEAKER_11: So uh daylight savings time.
- 52:07SPEAKER_11: Are are you holding up so far?
- 52:09SPEAKER_14: Well, tomorrow when it's time to get up, it'll be when it really only has to be.
- 52:14SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 52:14SPEAKER_14: You know, when I gotta get up early, an hour earlier.
- 52:18SPEAKER_14: Actually, I've kind of set my alarm an hour earlier and hit the snooze for an hour.
- 52:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah to get ready.
- 52:25SPEAKER_11: That's what you do to get ready?
- 52:27SPEAKER_14: Yeah, for a couple months.
- 52:29SPEAKER_11: For a couple months?
- 52:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:31SPEAKER_11: Cry.
- 52:32SPEAKER_11: What are we gonna say?
- 52:33SPEAKER_11: Cry.
- 52:34SPEAKER_11: I was gonna say that's just my day-to-day.
- 52:37SPEAKER_11: I j I set my alarm at 6 a.m.
- 52:38SPEAKER_11: and I do not get out of bed until seven because I'm just a lazy bone.
- 52:43SPEAKER_11: But yeah, Valerie's raising her hand to get a reason.
- 52:46SPEAKER_14: Well, I get it for a reason.
- 52:48SPEAKER_14: Typically I don't hit the snooze that many times once or twice, but now I hit it all the way up until I gotta get out of it.
- 52:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:54SPEAKER_11: Sometimes I hit the snooze until it's long past I have to get up.
- 52:59SPEAKER_11: But my coworkers know about that.
- 53:01SPEAKER_11: They're very kind to me, but they help me out.
- 53:03SPEAKER_14: You know, it's hard to use the excuse that you're late because your alarm didn't go off because now my alarm's on my phone.
- 53:08SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 53:09SPEAKER_14: You know, so you it's hard to do not all the digital stuff nowadays.
- 53:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah, same with me.
- 53:15SPEAKER_11: Mine's on my Alexa.
- 53:17SPEAKER_14: Alexa?
- 53:18SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so it just goes off every day.
- 53:21SPEAKER_11: I at least daylight savings time is on the weekend, so it does give us a day or two to adjust.
- 53:33SPEAKER_11: Adjusting.
- 53:36SPEAKER_14: So, like this morning I didn't even want to get out of bed and it was already late.
- 53:40SPEAKER_14: I mean, we didn't come to do the show, and it's already late.
- 53:43SPEAKER_11: It's already late.
- 53:44SPEAKER_11: I don't know why I'm defending it.
- 53:46SPEAKER_11: I don't I don't think I know anybody who's pro-daylight savings time.
- 53:50SPEAKER_14: I have met people that are, yeah.
- 53:52SPEAKER_14: Some of the people I work with, they are definitely pro daylight savings time.
- 53:55SPEAKER_11: Why?
- 53:56SPEAKER_11: Is it because is it one of those things where it's like this is the way we've always done it, so it's the way we're gonna keep doing it.
- 54:06SPEAKER_14: I mean, you know, when you work till five or six o'clock, then you have more daylight, and I understand that.
- 54:11SPEAKER_14: But that's not what it's intended for.
- 54:13SPEAKER_11: No.
- 54:16SPEAKER_11: That's something we didn't even mention that totally threw me into anti-daylight savings time, too.
- 54:20SPEAKER_11: Is imagine all the deer who have gotten used to the schedule of how the cars work in the morning now being an hour late or an hour early, and it just screws up feeding my dog, and you can't tell my dog what time it is.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: She don't listen.
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: That's a huge one.
- 54:35SPEAKER_14: Does she listen anyway?
- 54:40SPEAKER_14: She's a cute dog, too.
- 54:41SPEAKER_14: I met her.
- 54:43SPEAKER_11: Well, I hope that you sleep well tonight and that the sun doesn't come up too early.
- 54:49SPEAKER_11: But if it does, here are the beetles.
- 54:51SPEAKER_14: We'll see you next week.
- 54:53SPEAKER_11: Here comes the sun.

- 58:15SPEAKER_12: Oh, and by the way, WUC is sole property of Interwest Concepts.com, so don't even think about reusing it without permission.
- 58:25SPEAKER_12: Or who knows, maybe you can, because honestly, who's really paying attention?
- 58:29SPEAKER_12: This is Zeb McCluskey for WUC, and till next time.
