- Jheremy: Do Jaba: Hello everybody, welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator podcast. This is a brief one right here. We are starting a new series. I don't know if we're gonna do daily or every other day or what, but we're just gonna do a quick kick around the AFL, talk to you about box scores, what's going on, who's ⁓ who's standing out in the early going here. ⁓ we're not gonna waste any time, we're just gonna get right into it. ⁓ first game on Saturday, the I believe it was the first game of the slate. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: ⁓ it was ⁓ Jarl and Susanna against Briggs Mackenzie. Susana unsurprisingly came out pumping one ⁓ three, as we had kind of imagined he would, obviously all over you know, Twitter with that. Susana went three and a third, allowing one hit, walked two, struck out four, ⁓ didn't allow an earned run. Briggs McKenzie pitched pretty well as well. Two and a third, two hits, one earned, two walks, and three K's. ⁓ in terms of hitters. Doing notable stuff, it was the Caleb Bonomer and Wyatt Sanford show. Bontimer doubled off AJ Puck, who I believe missed this entire season ⁓ for the Diamondbacks. He was supposed to be their closer and he was just out all year. ⁓ Wyatt Sanford, Jeremy one of Jeremy's draft picks in our AFL draft, hit a homer. unsurprisingly, that's something he enjoys doing. looking up and down the lineup though, Chase Harlan 0 for four with two Ks. That's a bit of a tough one for me. ⁓ Eduardo Quintero, pretty quiet day with a single and two walks. ⁓ on the ⁓ saltwater river rafters or whatever it is. ⁓ Dax Kilby, one for four with a walk and a double. Yasser Soler, a guy that we both liked a good bit, went two for four, ⁓ with an RBI and a walk. And ⁓ yeah, that was pretty much pretty much all. everything that was going on there. So Jeremy, I'll kick it over to you for the next game. Jheremy: Yeah, and I was happy with Briggs McKenzie. Spin rate's up to 3,000 on the slider. So that's ⁓ 9293 with him. I have the Segueros and the Scorps. You look up and down, Zion Rose is a name we're gonna know come what December with ⁓ draft product coming out. He had a nice day, had a hit, RBI, a couple walks. ⁓ Wellman Francisco is obviously the star of this one, went five for five, hit a home run. ⁓ we talked about the bat to ball skills in our preview, had some more juice this year. Kinda got to see both of it. Aiden Miller, one for four, four punt ⁓ two punches, had a hit. Got on base a couple times. ⁓ Austin Charles, not a whole lot there. ⁓ flipping over, Bryce Raynor, pretty quiet, had a hit. Nathan Flew Elling for ⁓ for the Scorpions was kind of the big one there, went three for four. Still only nineteen years old. Somebody were pretty ⁓ you know, all in on there. Neymar Ochoa got on base a couple times via walk. Zire Hope had pretty empty stat line, two punch outs. Same with Dakota Jordan, one ⁓ for five, two strikeouts. The pitching, honestly, there was a lot of arms. Nothing really stood out across the board. I think there was about a dozen arms between the two of them, between the two clubs. ⁓ Batonti had an RBI. Wayne, Luciano and Bryce Rayner all had RBIs. ⁓ one long ball in the game, and that was really it. Dante Nori picked up a triple. ⁓ a lot of good names, not a whole lot of happening here in this one, but definitely the Welbin Francisca slash Nathan Flewelling combining to go eight for nine on the day between the two. Jaba: Yeah, and I ⁓ I saw a tweet ⁓ talking about Flewelling's exit velos over the weekend. ⁓ can't remember the exact data, but there were I I think four balls over a hundred miles an hour. I think one was like one like a double at like one ⁓ nine. ⁓ don't quote me on that. But he he He was hitting it hard. He was getting his money. Yeah, that'll work. So Jheremy: Yep. Yep. Yeah, he had a pair. He had a pair over one ⁓ seven. Had a pair over one ⁓ seven, so we play. Jaba: ⁓ last game on Saturday, Solar Sox and Javelinas. ⁓ good game for our, you know, kinda two bigger names on the Javelinas. Ty Pete, two for four. ⁓ he hit a double and a homer. Jheremy: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jaba: He also struck out twice, so you kinda got the whole type experience, but he was one of my bigger picks. ⁓ you know, just kind of showcasing that electric power speed combo. Ike Irish had a solid day. ⁓ he hit a two run homer, ⁓ went one for four with the two driven in. ⁓ Brandon Buttersworth, one for four. Vance honeycut at the bottom of the lineup didn't really do anything. He's a guy that I guess will be in twenty seven Bowman. I mean, 'cause he was drafted in what, twenty four? Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: out a out out of UNC. ⁓ he finally took a step this year. We'll see if it's too late. Ty Harvey 0 for three with a couple K's. ⁓ neither team had any ⁓ pitchers that we really care about. ⁓ SolarSocks scored six runs. ⁓ Nobody nobody huge had a big day. I mean, Namala went one for three with a pair of walks. They didn't have any extra base hits, which makes this a pretty brief one. Jake Monroe also won for four with a walk. But ⁓ yeah, Brays and Guidez down at the bottom of the lineup, he had a tough day going ⁓ for five with a pair of Ks. So he he is a younger guy. Obviously reached high A late. But for, you know, an eighteen year old playing a full season, ⁓ You know, I do worry that it's catching up to him and he could ⁓ he could struggle here. But again, I don't think anybody's really gonna go down in the AFL. So Jheremy: Yeah. Yep. ⁓ moving on to Sunday real quick. We'll go we'll rip through these fast. ⁓ Scorps and the Desert Doggies. You know, for how good we thought the Desert Dogs were on paper, they're now 0 and 2. Just kinda funny how baseball works out. ⁓ Wyatt Sanford another two hit day. Caleb Bonomer had a two hit day. Which I mean, kind of curious to see just kind of what he does, Bontimer, what he can do to kind of rectify his whole ⁓ like market prowess. Being a triple digit earlier this year down to 70. Just kind of see what he can do. Like, he he is a type of bat to just get hot and go in a long streak. And in this environment, he very well could like reestablish himself and make people say, like, ⁓ yeah, we remember you. ⁓ had a double RBI. Wyatt Sanford with the two hits is awesome to see again. ⁓ Chase Harlan with the hat trick. Sorry, Jabba with three punches, did get on base twice via walk. Jaba: Yeah. Hundred percent. Jheremy: ⁓ Isaiah Drake had a single. Nothing really going for that offense. Honestly, like they put up two runs on six hits. And that's with the ⁓ Scorpions pitching giving eight walks. Like they still only pushed two runs across. Jet Williams also had a hat trick of his own. Flewing one for five with a punchy. Dylan Jordan. ⁓ Dylan Jordan, that's a pitcher. Dakota Jordan and Zaire Hope combined over six, a couple of strikeouts. Neymar Ochoa had another hit. Couple walks, stole a bag. ⁓ I think the bigger one here to take away is the Eric Patanti home run off Matthias Lancombe. Got him his first hit of the AFL. Lefty was young for the grade coming out of draft. Has some swinging and miss issues, but had a really good year this year in terms of productivity. Kind of took his ⁓ power to the next step, kind of what we were all waiting to see. Another left-handed stick in the Brewer's org. no big Bowman arm through. We had a couple color-only guys with Matias Lancomb. And TJ Nichols from the Rays, and I think Nichols could be a guy to keep an eye on. ⁓ 23 draft, color only, throws hard in that rays system. ⁓ somebody we like to see. And Braden Summerhill did have a three hit day, not a Bowman guy, three singles, I believe. But a name that we will want to keep an eye on. He was in the twenty-five draft, so might be another twenty twenty-seven name for us to follow. Jaba: Yep. Yep. Over to the ⁓ Segueros who are 2-0 against the Rafters. I won't bury the lead here. Angeble Gomez made his AFL debut. Of course, he has never faced pitching above the DSL. So I'm really curious to see how it goes. I think even if he plays okay, it'll be a positive. ⁓ he led off in this one, which was a pretty, you know, tall assignment. Went one for four with a walk, scored two runs, stole a base. He did strike out three times. But again, you know, he's never faced pitching above the DSL. So I think he's gonna strike out a good bit. You know, in the DSL this year, I think he struck out eighteen times. So I wouldn't really read into it. I don't really think that, you know, whiff is a part of his profile. But he is basically going from facing, you know, 17 year olds in the DSL to facing guys from, you know, the upper minors. So I do think that there's gonna be an adjustment period there. But as long as he's getting on base, making stuff happen, you know, I just see this as a pure positive. So nice debut for him, Sebastian Wolf. Walcott had a pair of hits, ⁓ two RBIs and a walk, didn't strike out. ⁓ you know, just a solid day for him. Rest of the lineup was pretty quiet. ⁓ Ruin Escobar one for four with a walk and a K. ⁓ switching it over to the Rafters, Demetrio Cresantes tripled. in a one for four effort. Yasser Mercedes one for four. ⁓ just not a ton of our Bowman guys here. ⁓ Kyle DeBarge O for two with a walk and a K. You know, that's kinda power for the course with him. And then as far as pitching goes, ⁓ the only Bowman guy I'm really seeing is ⁓ Sean Sullivan who got hit around pretty good. Seven hits and two and two thirds. ⁓ Calvin Ziegler on the Següero side. ⁓ Metsville Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: Farmhand, ⁓ one clean inning, didn't record anything in the box score. But with the way he was walking guys, I think that's a ⁓ that's a solid result. So it was also I'm seeing now ninety six degrees out, so that's fun. I mean, take us home. Jheremy: Nice. Well there's a cold one. ⁓ last one, the Havalinas and SolarSocks. ⁓ continuing the trend from last game of not a whole lot of ⁓ Bowman guys doing anything, so to speak. ⁓ Cade Snell let off four Mesa, had pair of ⁓ pair of punch outs. He was the only signer for the Cubs in twenty six Bowman. Arjun had himself a hit, had himself a walk. ⁓ Mason White, somebody I kinda like in the Red Sox system. Was last year's draft, doesn't have any Bowman lefty stick out of Arizona. Somebody I do like. Have liked him since he was 14 and all of our stuff. ⁓ but no Bowman. Neither does Davis Diaz. He had a home run as part of a two-hit game. Good to see from him. And Nazan Zanatello had a home run, which is good to see. Red Sox kid. came out of a Missouri high school, super tools up, was younger. at draft just kind of like needs to put it all together. He was a 2023 draft Bowman product. So people probably have a little bit of amnesia with him, have put him away, put him in white boxes. ⁓ let's see what he can do because he's already has a few hits on the year. So and that was part of a two hit game with a home run. ⁓ Owen Carey had an Ofer. So we move. We continue to move and Juan Cabata. What did Juan do? where's Juan? There is. Had a had one hit. He had a hit. And Brayson Guade has actually had a two hit game. So you know what? We like that. Flip it on over. You look up and down, honestly. Typete in the one hole had a hit. ⁓ Carlos Sanchez, non non-auto guy for the Reds, had a two hit game out of the two hole. Boston Smith, ⁓ probably on most people's quote unquote wish list, I imagine, of prospects who doesn't have a Bowman is probably one. Jaba: Eight hole. For sure. Jheremy: He had a he had a hit, pair of punch outs. ⁓ and Brandon Butterworth, he's another one with cards, had two walks, strike out, had a hit. That one hit being a double, which nice to see. ⁓ like for the amount of like or the lack of big time arms, like Masoth struck out sixteen and the Peoria pitching staff struck out six, like That's a lot of strikeouts when the stuff might not necessarily be there. So just kind of interesting to see, like up and down the lineup guys who have one, two, three strikeout games already. ⁓ but again, it's early, like let ⁓ get acclimated and w I I'm sure come the next one we do here, we're gonna start seeing bigger bigger box scores. So Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, just to kinda close out on top of that, I think, you know most of our conversation was centered around hitters because that's where all the talent was. That's obviously more popular for Bowman. And, you know, I think we're both expecting a lot of offense. I still think we will, but it's funny, I mean, looking at Sunday, I mean we had two games with seven total runs and one with ten. so just not a ton of noise yet. I'd say, you know, Bonham or Flewelling both look good. ⁓ Ty Pete off to a nice start. But nothing nothing too crazy. And I'm hoping tonight, you know, some guys can start. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: you know giving us serious stuff to talk about. But yeah, that ⁓ that's our whip around. We're gonna try to do it every day, like five minutes. And ⁓ thank y'all for listening and ⁓ let's go Mets. Talk to you guys. Jheremy: For sure.
