- 0:01Speaker 1: All right, Well, it's Saturday, August twenty second, lou Terminello,
- 0:05Speaker 1: penultimate week of August. How do we get here? Firstly,
- 0:07Speaker 1: and secondly, oh my goodness, the Yanks are three games
- 0:11Speaker 1: out of the AL East. I had my little schedule
- 0:14Speaker 1: I had thought of for them, which is going to
- 0:16Speaker 1: be by August twenty eighth. They're three games out with
- 0:19Speaker 1: the division inside again, how about that?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Well, you're right, first of all, good morning, Alex, and
- 0:24Speaker 2: thanks for having me. As always, You're right, summer's going
- 0:26Speaker 2: too fast. I can't believe that Labor Day is right
- 0:31Speaker 2: around the corner here, and Labor Day signals the last
- 0:36Speaker 2: month of the baseball season, which is gonna be. It'll
- 0:39Speaker 2: be interesting. Obviously, the AL East is where it's at
- 0:45Speaker 2: with Tampa, the Yankees, then even the Red Sox. It
- 0:49Speaker 2: looks like those three will will all make the not
- 0:52Speaker 2: they will, I mean Vegas has the Yankees in Tampa
- 0:57Speaker 2: at ninety nine plus layoff possibility, the Red Sox at
- 1:02Speaker 2: like ninety five, and then the rest of the American
- 1:06Speaker 2: League just is just dregs of the dregs, and so
- 1:10Speaker 2: I think the World Series, well American League representative will
- 1:15Speaker 2: be the Yankees Tampa Bay. Probably in all likelihood, the
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yankees have cut the lead from six to three the
- 1:22Speaker 2: past week. You know, the Raves started nine to zero
- 1:25Speaker 2: on that what West Coast road trip, completed nine to
- 1:28Speaker 2: oh West Coast road trip, and now are two and
- 1:30Speaker 2: six since then.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Again, no, and that's the thing.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I always felt like the Raids were going to falter
- 1:35Speaker 1: at some point, and here we are might be happening.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So well, again, they've been the most consistent team on
- 1:41Speaker 2: the positive side in the American League goal year.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I don't know what you mean the dregs that are
- 1:47Speaker 1: I mean, there are dregs that are still three games
- 1:49Speaker 1: under the out of the wild car, which I find
- 1:52Speaker 1: crazy to be. I mean, the Mariners see one in
- 1:54Speaker 1: sixty eight, three games out. I mean, I just I
- 1:57Speaker 1: don't know, I don't get it.
- 1:58Speaker 2: But yeah, even the Tigers sixty one, sixty seven, the
- 2:03Speaker 2: Oreo sixty two and sixty seven, the j sixty three
- 2:06Speaker 2: and sixty seven, the Guardian sixty three and sixty six,
- 2:10Speaker 2: the Twins sixty three and sixty six one game out,
- 2:13Speaker 2: and the Texas Rangers right now on the twenty second,
- 2:18Speaker 2: one game under five hundred. They have that last wild
- 2:21Speaker 2: card spot right now, but that's going to change five
- 2:24Speaker 2: six times in the last month. The Yankees pitching is superior,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and that's and that is the Kee. The Yankee superior
- 2:33Speaker 2: pitching is covering up all of their ills, so that
- 2:38Speaker 2: pitching is going to carry them. I think, uh, you know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: through through the playoffs, the American League playoffs, at that least,
- 2:48Speaker 2: I think it's imperative the Yankees finish first. I think
- 2:52Speaker 2: it's imperative that Tampa Bay finishes first. If one of
- 2:55Speaker 2: those two teams, and they are the two best teams
- 2:57Speaker 2: in the American League, want to get to the World Series.
- 3:01Speaker 3: So that's baseball.
- 3:03Speaker 1: That award goes to the Brewers right now, who have
- 3:05Speaker 1: eighty wins first to eighty and here we are almost
- 3:10Speaker 1: end of August. By now, the Dodgers would have been
- 3:12Speaker 1: in that eighty win range. But you know, I don't know,
- 3:16Speaker 1: as they're tearing it on too late. Is that what's
- 3:18Speaker 1: happening here? Louisn't really well.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I did a little little standing research National League standing
- 3:25Speaker 2: to research the Dodgers. The Dodgers record the last three years.
- 3:32Speaker 2: On August twenty first, twenty second is one game either
- 3:39Speaker 2: way of what it of what it's what it's been.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It's always it's been the same seventy six and fifty two,
- 3:45Speaker 2: seventy five and fifty one, seventy four and fifty two.
- 3:48Speaker 2: So they're at the same pace now. They've been able
- 3:52Speaker 2: to turn it on the last two years. And let's
- 3:55Speaker 2: face it, you know, obviously they won the World Series
- 3:57Speaker 2: by the skin of their teeth on a couple of
- 3:59Speaker 2: great defensive play in Game seven. But I can't I
- 4:04Speaker 2: can't discount him. I don't think if you said to
- 4:07Speaker 2: me loud, World Series, do you take internationally, do you
- 4:12Speaker 2: take the Dodgers or do you take the field. I'm
- 4:15Speaker 2: taking the field right now, but uh, you know me,
- 4:19Speaker 2: until the champion is is dead, you always gotta respect
- 4:24Speaker 2: the champion a little bit.
- 4:26Speaker 4: But I do.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I do agree with you. The Dodgers. I think I'm
- 4:32Speaker 2: gonna get picked off this year.
- 4:33Speaker 4: I do.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I don't know if they they have just gotten old quickly.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Mookie Betts is not to say Mookie Betts offensively. Will
- 4:44Speaker 2: Smith's being banged up. We know how how key he
- 4:47Speaker 2: is to their success. He's missed a large portion of
- 4:50Speaker 2: the season.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And the guyan right, Kyle Tucker, you've been talking about
- 4:54Speaker 1: all the year.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I mean not not leaving you know.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Me, You're right, I mean Tucker's home and road splits
- 5:04Speaker 2: are you know, unbelievable. Uh, two seventy five at home,
- 5:10Speaker 2: three seventy five ops. I mean on base percentage eight
- 5:14Speaker 2: forty ops on the road. At home he's batting one
- 5:20Speaker 2: and his OPS is five fifty eight. So the pressure
- 5:23Speaker 2: of playing at under that Dodger Stadium spotlight with the crowd,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and let's face it, the Dodger Stadium crowd is tough,
- 5:31Speaker 2: but it's not Philly tough or New York tough or
- 5:34Speaker 2: Boston tough.
- 5:36Speaker 4: But he's feeling the pressure. And I was, you know, I've.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Been watching games last week on a homestand especially those
- 5:41Speaker 2: four games against the Brewers. He was bowed and he
- 5:44Speaker 2: dropped the fly ball in right field. He's not the
- 5:47Speaker 2: same Kyle Tucker that we see in the past. I
- 5:49Speaker 2: think last night the fans' first time up gave him
- 5:53Speaker 2: a standing ovation to show their support of him through
- 5:57Speaker 2: these tough times at home.
- 6:00Speaker 3: But uh, and that's what these guys should get.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sorry, I still think they should get
- 6:06Speaker 1: some support for home crowd, you know. And I think
- 6:09Speaker 1: Otani is not hitting the way he used to, right,
- 6:11Speaker 1: I don't think he's hit no those.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Homes Again, I agree with you and everybody says it's
- 6:15Speaker 2: between Otani and Pete crow Armstrong for MVP. I don't
- 6:19Speaker 2: know if Otani it's it is there for MVP.
- 6:24Speaker 4: If I was, if I had a vote.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I'm voting for Pete crow Armstrong unless he goes into
- 6:28Speaker 2: Mammot slump the last five weeks of the season. That
- 6:34Speaker 2: right now, on August twenty second, he get.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Or the Miz. I love what Miseroski's doing with.
- 6:40Speaker 4: The Miz right now.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Looks like he's gonna win the cy Young And if
- 6:44Speaker 2: you want to, I'm not against a cy Young an
- 6:49Speaker 2: MVP double. I would if you want to throw Miseraski
- 6:53Speaker 2: in for the MVP Award, that that would be. That
- 6:57Speaker 2: would be fine too.
- 7:00Speaker 1: You have to, I guess a Schwarber or even correct.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, so yeah, absolutely. I mean, I know he hasn't
- 7:08Speaker 2: hit for a high average, but he's a run producer
- 7:12Speaker 2: and when he goes when he's going good, the Phillies
- 7:15Speaker 2: are going good and the fields are dangerous. But in
- 7:19Speaker 2: the National League, unlike the American League, you're gonna have
- 7:22Speaker 2: a decent team that's not going to make the playoffs.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And that's gonna come from depending on what happens in September.
- 7:33Speaker 2: If somebody gets hot, if somebody just has four loses
- 7:35Speaker 2: four games in a row, that's how you know how
- 7:37Speaker 2: close this is. I mean, you got you got Philly,
- 7:41Speaker 2: you got San Diego, and you got the Diamondbacks. One
- 7:43Speaker 2: game out, one of those teams are it's not gonna
- 7:48Speaker 2: make it. I think San Diego is gonna make it.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I think they're gonna get better. Uh the rest of
- 7:54Speaker 2: the way. I think Philly is gonna make it. I
- 7:56Speaker 2: think the Diamondbacks again will fall just short. But uh,
- 8:03Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to play the Phils, not with not
- 8:06Speaker 2: with their starting staff, not with uh uh their closer.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to play the Phillies.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Still in the American League, the Ages would be the
- 8:16Speaker 1: second best team, if not the best, and still not
- 8:19Speaker 1: have a buye. I mean, I think they're the top
- 8:22Speaker 1: two play teams. I wish we would rank them that
- 8:24Speaker 1: way and that and we said that last time too.
- 8:26Speaker 2: But yeah, well yeah, we talked about that last week,
- 8:29Speaker 2: and uh, A lot of people in the business, a
- 8:31Speaker 2: lot of players, you know, you would think would say, hey,
- 8:34Speaker 2: we have a better record than a team in another division,
- 8:38Speaker 2: But a lot of players say, hey, if we finished
- 8:40Speaker 2: first in that division, that team should get I should
- 8:44Speaker 2: get to buy. It's really it's really, uh a split decision.
- 8:50Speaker 2: As far as I would give, I would go by records.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I would go by record. But that that now just me.
- 8:56Speaker 1: The team is incredible to me because they're so under
- 8:59Speaker 1: their right. Now are the Braves? I mean, the Braves
- 9:01Speaker 1: have been chopping would I guess I could say, I
- 9:05Speaker 1: don't know, but it's like that that they're dominating, but
- 9:08Speaker 1: no one really talks about it.
- 9:09Speaker 3: And interesting they are.
- 9:11Speaker 2: They they are under definitely under the radar. And maybe
- 9:16Speaker 2: it is because, let's face it, for most of the
- 9:19Speaker 2: last twenty years, they've been very good.
- 9:22Speaker 4: And you take very good for.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Granted sometimes but obviously they have pitching injuries, but they
- 9:31Speaker 2: are very good. They have good interior defense, They're obviously
- 9:36Speaker 2: they're dangerous, but you are correct, they are under the
- 9:40Speaker 2: radar screen.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I mean, you know, they love to it, they're the Yankees,
- 9:43Speaker 1: but I mean they're so solid and look, I'm always
- 9:46Speaker 1: a big fan of Mett Olson. In fact, I always
- 9:47Speaker 1: thought he would be like he's underrated. He is under
- 9:52Speaker 1: the air MVP candidate.
- 9:53Speaker 2: As well, that absolutely, and he is an MVP candidate
- 9:56Speaker 2: this year also, no doubt he is underrated. Again, He's
- 10:01Speaker 2: been so good for so long. We take him for granted.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Because Acuna and everything like that, and they're just keeping
- 10:08Speaker 1: him healthy.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Is it's it's interesting.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I see they lost the Brave Brewers yesterday and I
- 10:13Speaker 1: guess Sale pitched against them, so.
- 10:14Speaker 4: There it was sailing as a Rosky.
- 10:16Speaker 2: So both those guys, you know, pitch out standing games.
- 10:19Speaker 2: But it'll be it'll be an interesting uh September and
- 10:25Speaker 2: uh we're you know, we'll see, uh if we have
- 10:28Speaker 2: an under five hundred team in the playoffs.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Now, I still think Manningly is gonna get Madame and
- 10:33Speaker 1: Manager of the Year. I just get the feeling for
- 10:35Speaker 1: the n L on the al side. It could be
- 10:37Speaker 1: booned with all the stuff he's been navigating.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Will ever be.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Something, Yeah, it could be. I think right now Max
- 10:48Speaker 2: Vennable of the White Sox will will probably He's yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 2: that that's a probably will lead candidate.
- 10:55Speaker 1: When I was gonna say, you know, this could be
- 10:57Speaker 1: the series that buries the Mets in any kind of
- 10:59Speaker 1: change of being at five hundred, because.
- 11:02Speaker 4: They were never close to five hundred.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But this could be the series that puts a damper
- 11:07Speaker 1: on the whole thing, because you know, the White Sox
- 11:11Speaker 1: are good.
- 11:11Speaker 3: They wont to walk off last night.
- 11:13Speaker 1: They could sweep the Mets, and I think if they don't,
- 11:15Speaker 1: that's a pride. If they still lose a series, that's
- 11:18Speaker 1: a problem because they also lost the Cubs this week too,
- 11:21Speaker 1: So it's interesting.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Yeah, last night, the met should have won the game.
- 11:26Speaker 2: The White Sox only had six hits, but they had
- 11:28Speaker 2: four home runs back to back to back. And then
- 11:32Speaker 2: Jake Rogers and his story is just incredible. He's played
- 11:36Speaker 2: on fourteens and twenty one days in the last month,
- 11:41Speaker 2: going from Detroit to Baltimore, the Boston to the White Sox.
- 11:48Speaker 2: It goes to show you how important catching is and
- 11:54Speaker 2: how little talent there is at the catching position in
- 11:58Speaker 2: Major League Baseball right now. Everybody will take a catcher
- 12:02Speaker 2: has who just has a pulse, and you know, Roger's
- 12:06Speaker 2: only about one seventy five, and.
- 12:07Speaker 1: The bookies are just like, well, we didn't get anybody.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But you know, a Yankee fans were probably like eyeing him.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I know Rogers in the talks of the deadline, so
- 12:15Speaker 1: you know, it's just.
- 12:17Speaker 2: You know, everybody talks about, you know, giving away players.
- 12:22Speaker 2: When the Yankees gave away for one hundred thousand dollars
- 12:26Speaker 2: Lewis Rrenz to the Mets for one hundred thousand dollars,
- 12:30Speaker 2: in retrospect that that was a mistake. He would be perfect.
- 12:36Speaker 4: On the New York Yankees.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Now he's analytically the best defensive catcher in baseball, and
- 12:44Speaker 2: he's hitting a little bit, and I'm glad the Mets
- 12:48Speaker 2: have him on their contract for end of the.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Year and the White Sox and not have murrh commy
- 12:52Speaker 1: last year. I think that's made a difference this year.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I mean his presence and everything like that. But beyond that,
- 12:59Speaker 1: they made the right moves these call ups. I mean
- 13:01Speaker 1: that other kid, Montgomery, I mean, oh my goodness, And
- 13:04Speaker 1: I guess you're right. Venable has kept the ship of
- 13:06Speaker 1: going here with I think they're gonna win the division
- 13:09Speaker 1: for sure. I don't see the Guardians lab I mean,
- 13:12Speaker 1: the Guardians always make a final push during these playoff runs.
- 13:16Speaker 3: But I think the White Sox have it. I really
- 13:17Speaker 3: do so.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I think the White Sox Gooden finished first. They just
- 13:21Speaker 2: got to if they could just maintain, maintain some sort
- 13:26Speaker 2: of consistency, not going to.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Star right games.
- 13:29Speaker 1: So one of my favorite ballplayers, Andrew Bennettendee, I mean,
- 13:34Speaker 1: he's the perfect fit for that team. He's been there
- 13:36Speaker 1: for a while and like he's the perfect vet to
- 13:38Speaker 1: have on that team, you know, So.
- 13:41Speaker 2: He's a perfect vet. The guy's are pro, the guy
- 13:43Speaker 2: can hit.
- 13:44Speaker 4: The guy.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Has suffered through the one hundred and twenty one loss season.
- 13:50Speaker 2: You know, like we said in the past, they've lost
- 13:52Speaker 2: over three hundred and forty games combined the last three years.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So he's seen it all and he's played in playoff games.
- 13:59Speaker 2: So we'll be able to calm the the young White
- 14:02Speaker 2: Sox down. You know, this is a bonus here for
- 14:05Speaker 2: the White Sox. They you know, didn't expect to be
- 14:08Speaker 2: in first place on August twenty August twenty second, and
- 14:14Speaker 2: it's good to see people back in the stands at
- 14:16Speaker 2: you know, at the rate field.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I know, I know, and to being some misky it
- 14:22Speaker 1: was that, yeah, but you.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Know, and you know, they've done a nice job. They
- 14:28Speaker 2: have done a nice job. They've turned it around. They've
- 14:30Speaker 2: turned it around quickly. Of course, being in that division
- 14:33Speaker 2: helps because a division, it's a division where there is
- 14:37Speaker 2: no high paying teams. Nobody's going to blow you away
- 14:41Speaker 2: with a high payroll in that division as far as
- 14:43Speaker 2: their salary goes. The Twins aren't, the Guardians aren't, the
- 14:46Speaker 2: Tigers aren't, and the Royals aren't. So you don't have
- 14:50Speaker 2: to worry about with like, say, if you're in the
- 14:52Speaker 2: NL E still we gotta worry about the Nets spending
- 14:54Speaker 2: a lot of money, the Philly spending a lot of money,
- 14:56Speaker 2: the Brave spending a lot of money, or in the
- 14:58Speaker 2: AL East Toronto, Austin, the Yankees. So that gives, that
- 15:03Speaker 2: gives the teams in the AL Central an the NL Central,
- 15:07Speaker 2: you know, uh uh a fighting chance.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, all right, So I want to move on.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I feel like I want to say, on baseball for
- 15:18Speaker 1: one more minute, the Brewers manager callsby manager of the Year.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I think because of the way he's had that team. Also,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I mean, he's done a great job with them.
- 15:27Speaker 2: You know who's getting a lot of uh who still
- 15:29Speaker 2: gets a lot of And you're right about Pat Murphy
- 15:32Speaker 2: that he's outstanding manager. But you know, he still gets
- 15:35Speaker 2: a lot of credit for the way the Milwaukee Brewers
- 15:38Speaker 2: are built, and US MED fans don't want to hear
- 15:41Speaker 2: it because we're so upset with UH, with David Stearns,
- 15:44Speaker 2: but a lot entellly nobody in Major League Baseball except writers,
- 15:49Speaker 2: but the guys in the business, they still praise David Stearns.
- 15:57Speaker 2: You know, he's the reason that he set the foundation
- 15:59Speaker 2: for the Brewers today.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Maybe maybe I'll tell you his acquisition of Jake Bowers
- 16:06Speaker 1: and UH has really changed the team. I think to
- 16:09Speaker 1: him and Terang is great. Chario, I mean, come on.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Uh, they have they again, they have good pitching, they
- 16:16Speaker 2: have timely hitting, and they have they're very good defensive team,
- 16:19Speaker 2: like the Cubs are a very good defensive team.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Oh do we talk about this last week? That the
- 16:23Speaker 1: that I feel the Yankees lineup is more run prevention
- 16:27Speaker 1: than scoring right now, because I feel like they're putting
- 16:30Speaker 1: guys out there that will help prevent runs rather than
- 16:33Speaker 1: score a lot of runs.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I don't know if yourself, they'll get they'll get even better.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Once Bellinger comes back, I guess tomorrow or or Monday
- 16:42Speaker 2: or Tuesday. I guess he's on the verge of coming
- 16:44Speaker 2: back and he will help their run prevention.
- 16:47Speaker 1: And not for nothing, not not to say that we
- 16:49Speaker 1: don't need to make me in which we do. But
- 16:52Speaker 1: the Yankees needed this moment to see what a Rosario
- 16:57Speaker 1: could give the team, what a Caveerro could give. I mean,
- 17:00Speaker 1: when Lombard came up, that cut down the copies playing time,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and I never really understood why, because he's a good player,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you know, like he needs to be let up. With
- 17:09Speaker 1: Lombard at any position, I would put him in left.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Although Ramos is starting to hit now. But see they're
- 17:14Speaker 1: playing for run prevention, not so much scoring, and the
- 17:18Speaker 1: pitching is holding together these three one games, lou the
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yankees never used. The Yankees would only really score three
- 17:25Speaker 1: or four runs, you know, in the nineties. Maybe I
- 17:28Speaker 1: don't know, but it's it's so different to see them
- 17:31Speaker 1: score small ball more than anything.
- 17:33Speaker 4: Now.
- 17:33Speaker 3: It's just weird. It's very well.
- 17:36Speaker 4: You talked about run prevention.
- 17:37Speaker 2: The greatest run prevention a team can have, is it
- 17:41Speaker 2: like a pitching staff like the New York Yankees have
- 17:43Speaker 2: right now this.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Year twenty wins.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean, there were some games he just he did
- 17:51Speaker 1: not favor, He did not get treated well by the offense.
- 17:54Speaker 1: They should be fifteen wins at least by now, but
- 17:58Speaker 1: he did at eleven, you know. And I want to
- 18:01Speaker 1: get to milestones here because I'm looking at his stats.
- 18:03Speaker 1: He's almost a three hundred career strikeouts, three hundred career.
- 18:06Speaker 1: He just started last summer, Louis Okay.
- 18:10Speaker 2: He's got great stuff. He's got blowaway stuff, and he
- 18:15Speaker 2: has smoked a lot a lot of major league hitters
- 18:19Speaker 2: in his first year and a half in the major league.
- 18:22Speaker 4: There's no doubt about it.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And then another guy circling three hundred is mister Alonso.
- 18:26Speaker 1: He's a few home runs away from three hundred career homers.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And you know, he got his thirtieth last night. I believe,
- 18:35Speaker 1: but imagine I don't think he's gonna I think he
- 18:37Speaker 1: will get it before that series with the Mess, But
- 18:40Speaker 1: imagined he doesn't and he gets his three hundred at
- 18:42Speaker 1: City Field, that would be unbelievable, Lily.
- 18:45Speaker 4: That would be great. I would love to see that,
- 18:47Speaker 4: I really will.
- 18:48Speaker 3: He's got six homers on the way he's sitting now.
- 18:49Speaker 3: I think he's gonna do it before September fourteenth.
- 18:52Speaker 2: You're probably right, but he'll be right around September fourteenth.
- 18:55Speaker 2: So again we've talked about that NAIs him just after
- 19:01Speaker 2: Tom sever and Tom Seaver was obviously at the level
- 19:05Speaker 2: above Peelonzo, but after the Tom Seaver debacle back in
- 19:10Speaker 2: nineteen seventy seven. This is the worst roster move in
- 19:16Speaker 2: Met's history, even worse than Nolan Ryan. You could toss
- 19:21Speaker 2: a coin with that one.
- 19:22Speaker 4: But this is this is just and.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I'll tell you I was sad to see Rutchman go
- 19:26Speaker 1: to the Red Sox. I thought he would be a
- 19:28Speaker 1: lifelong Oriole. But since the deadline, you know, they've been
- 19:31Speaker 1: doing really well. They beat the the Raised three out
- 19:35Speaker 1: of four last week now.
- 19:37Speaker 2: But they lost three straight to the Yankees, so that
- 19:40Speaker 2: that that nullifies beating the race three out of four.
- 19:43Speaker 2: The thing with the Rays, the Rays had the best
- 19:45Speaker 2: home record in the American League. They go nine to
- 19:48Speaker 2: zero on the on the West Coast road trip, come home,
- 19:51Speaker 2: and you think they would have a good homestand and
- 19:54Speaker 2: they lose three out of four to Baltimore. Then it
- 19:56Speaker 2: was two out of three to the Jays, and then
- 19:58Speaker 2: last night they lost on the road to Baltimore. So
- 20:03Speaker 2: you know this this has a long way to go.
- 20:04Speaker 2: We have no idea who's going to finish first. The
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yankees still have a great chance to finish first. Remember
- 20:10Speaker 2: last year on August twenty sixth, the Indians were twelve
- 20:16Speaker 2: and a half games the Tigers, and the Tigers collapsed
- 20:19Speaker 2: twenty six and the Tigers collapsed.
- 20:22Speaker 3: So and you know, I think that wrote wait on
- 20:23Speaker 3: School's mind.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Although he wants to come back to Detroit, so we'll
- 20:26Speaker 1: see how that plays out.
- 20:27Speaker 3: At the end, he's not coming back to Detroit.
- 20:29Speaker 4: You can's gone.
- 20:31Speaker 3: He is not farewell in la right now.
- 20:33Speaker 1: It's very interesting thought to see that happening. All right,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I want to get to two weeks ago today, Tommy
- 20:40Speaker 1: John writes a letter in hospice saying goodbye to the
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yankee family. And then, of course less than a week
- 20:46Speaker 1: a weekend a day later, he passes. And you know,
- 20:48Speaker 1: as you know, I got to talk to Tommy John
- 20:50Speaker 1: and meet him and get his autograph and all that.
- 20:52Speaker 2: He had a great interview with him, Alex, you had
- 20:54Speaker 2: a fantastic interviewer.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Special guy like he just and he was a very
- 20:57Speaker 1: funny guy too. But you saw him play. So what
- 21:00Speaker 1: do you remember Platt watching him pitch? Did you go
- 21:02Speaker 1: to a lot of games of his. What do you
- 21:04Speaker 1: remember the most.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Well, I saw him pitch a lot, because he played
- 21:07Speaker 2: a lot. You know, he played twenty six years. He
- 21:12Speaker 2: was an outstanding left handed pitcher. Obviously, he's known, unfortunately
- 21:20Speaker 2: for being the first guy to have a revolutionary surgery
- 21:24Speaker 2: by Frank Joe, the Dodgers team physician, back in nineteen
- 21:28Speaker 2: seventy four, which now bears his name. Tommy John. He
- 21:32Speaker 2: was an excellent pitcher for the White Sox. Not a
- 21:37Speaker 2: hard thrower. If he had to rare back once in
- 21:41Speaker 2: a while, he would, but he was more of a
- 21:43Speaker 2: sinker ball, curve ball pitcher, got a lot of ground balls.
- 21:50Speaker 4: You know, pitched great for the Dodgers.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Won more games after Tommy John than before Tommy John
- 21:56Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty four I believe before and one
- 21:58Speaker 2: hundred and sixty four after. Always you know, he played
- 22:02Speaker 2: for the Dodgers. He played for the Yankees. Obviously they
- 22:04Speaker 2: were always good teams, so we had that behind him.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Uh.
- 22:11Speaker 4: He pitched against the Yankees in the World Series. He
- 22:13Speaker 4: pitched into the Dodgers in the World Series.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It's it's really it's really ironic, and the ironies.
- 22:19Speaker 3: He lost on both ends. That's so interesting, you know,
- 22:23Speaker 3: it really is.
- 22:25Speaker 4: He won ninety I mean.
- 22:26Speaker 1: To me, let alone, the fact that he had two
- 22:30Speaker 1: hundred eight wins to have one hundred and sixty four
- 22:32Speaker 1: after the surgery, that is Hall of Fame worthy.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Like I just I feel like he's.
- 22:37Speaker 1: There only because well mainly because of his accomplishments after
- 22:40Speaker 1: the surgery.
- 22:41Speaker 3: And also, you know, two hundred eighty eight wins.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Anybody could have that, but it's a special situation where
- 22:47Speaker 1: he overcame that injury, had that surgery and won one.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Hundred sixty four.
- 22:51Speaker 1: That's that would be showing me the Hall of Fame
- 22:55Speaker 1: recognize the adaptive athletes. Now people may wonder why I
- 22:58Speaker 1: consider Tommy john and adapt to bathlete. Well, the surgery
- 23:02Speaker 1: changed his thing. He had to adapt it a little
- 23:03Speaker 1: bit and all that. I mean, he's an adapted athlete.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Like, yeah, no, I understand, I understand. You know where
- 23:11Speaker 2: you're coming from, Alex. I cannot. If I was a
- 23:15Speaker 2: Hall of Fame voter, he had an outstanding career, I
- 23:20Speaker 2: would not vote. I would not vote for him in
- 23:22Speaker 2: a Hall of Fame. I mean, he has the he
- 23:25Speaker 2: only led his last two years with the Dodgers. He
- 23:29Speaker 2: led the nationally good winning percentage. That's the only positive
- 23:32Speaker 2: black type on his career resume. The other black type
- 23:40Speaker 2: he has he gave up two hundred and eighty seven hits.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I think when he was with the Angels led the
- 23:46Speaker 2: American League in most hits given up. That's not a
- 23:49Speaker 2: positive black type.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Well.
- 23:54Speaker 2: A lot of times people compare him to Nolan Ryan
- 23:57Speaker 2: because Nolan Ryan had a similar wre Nolan Ryan won
- 24:00Speaker 2: three hundred and twenty four games alex He almost lost
- 24:03Speaker 2: three hundred games. It was two hundred and ninety four.
- 24:06Speaker 2: But Nolan Ryan led the National led the major leagues
- 24:10Speaker 2: or either the American League or National League in strikeouts
- 24:13Speaker 2: e eleven times. Four times in his forties he led
- 24:18Speaker 2: the He led the American League in in.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Era.
- 24:24Speaker 2: There's seven no hitters, I believe eleven or twelve one hitters,
- 24:30Speaker 2: five seven hundred and fourteen strikeouts. Nolan Ryan is a
- 24:35Speaker 2: Hall of Famer because those those are overwhelming lifetime achievements.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Tommy John did not have that. Now, he was an
- 24:44Speaker 2: outstanding pitcher.
- 24:46Speaker 4: In the day.
- 24:47Speaker 2: You know, in an era where pitching mattered more than
- 24:49Speaker 2: does today.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Now, do you believe the idea that his surgery changed
- 24:54Speaker 1: the lives of so many baseballers or are we overusing
- 24:56Speaker 1: it now?
- 24:57Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, that that that's urgery definitely
- 25:01Speaker 2: definitely changed the life of.
- 25:02Speaker 4: So many pictures. You know what.
- 25:04Speaker 2: It's like, thirty percent or thirty four percent of all
- 25:08Speaker 2: pitchers get Tommy John surgery. But just because he was
- 25:11Speaker 2: the first one to get it, that doesn't make them
- 25:13Speaker 2: eligible fall Hall of Fame. They should put Frank Joe,
- 25:17Speaker 2: the Dodgers team physician.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Yeah, in the Hall of Fame.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Well, there are some position players that got it over
- 25:26Speaker 1: the years also, I mean absolutely.
- 25:28Speaker 2: One of one of my friends, one of my best friends,
- 25:31Speaker 2: his kid was an ouxielder is an Alex fielder in
- 25:35Speaker 2: the in the Nationals organization now.
- 25:37Speaker 4: And when he was at Butler.
- 25:41Speaker 2: He needed Tommy John position player.
- 25:43Speaker 4: He needed Tommy John.
- 25:44Speaker 2: He was he played the corner positions.
- 25:46Speaker 1: And it seemed like to me he wasn't bothered that
- 25:50Speaker 1: his name was attached to it. But I feel like
- 25:52Speaker 1: you had said he was bothered at times during this.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Well, I did see an interview a couple of years
- 25:57Speaker 2: ago on MLB Network with with Chris Chris Madorg Russo
- 26:03Speaker 2: and he made it seem too to Chris Russo that yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 2: he wished he wasn't the first one and didn't have
- 26:11Speaker 2: his name attached to it.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Again, and I believe what Frank Joe did was actually
- 26:15Speaker 1: revolutionize it because it was used for polio patients. Then
- 26:18Speaker 1: they use on a baseball player, and so what what
- 26:21Speaker 1: what a change?
- 26:21Speaker 3: You know?
- 26:22Speaker 2: It's yeah, no, it's again, it's it was revolutionary that.
- 26:26Speaker 1: And we don't talk about IM sure football quarterbacks get
- 26:28Speaker 1: it too.
- 26:29Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I think, yeah, I didn't in that in that championship game,
- 26:36Speaker 2: I think, uh he blew out his his U C
- 26:39Speaker 2: L And I think, uh uh. They had to do
- 26:42Speaker 2: it on party.
- 26:44Speaker 1: The Niners by the way of the most tormented off season.
- 26:47Speaker 1: We'll get to that maybe at some point, but it's
- 26:49Speaker 1: been a weird off season for them.
- 26:50Speaker 3: But I digress.
- 26:51Speaker 1: No, me and Tommy get to know him and his
- 26:54Speaker 1: family share a great wife.
- 26:55Speaker 3: I mean, just really really special, a great player.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I know him after his career in the public spotlight
- 27:03Speaker 1: like that was really special. And again thanks to his
- 27:06Speaker 1: agent Mac and everybody for connecting us that that was
- 27:10Speaker 1: really great. So they honored him last night at the
- 27:12Speaker 1: stadium the Yanks win in honor of him, and you know,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I think his final win was five to three or
- 27:18Speaker 1: something like that. So that thought that was and she no,
- 27:21Speaker 1: all right, I want to get to last night's Jet game.
- 27:24Speaker 1: So I follow Brian Cassello and I'm sure you do
- 27:27Speaker 1: on New York Post. I do, and I'm reading our
- 27:30Speaker 1: buddy Ryan. I said, Ryan Gino Smith just through seven
- 27:33Speaker 1: for seven then his first dry It's like, what is
- 27:39Speaker 1: that a reason for excitement or is it preseason? I
- 27:41Speaker 1: know you're gonna say it's preseason, but seven for seven,
- 27:43Speaker 1: six or nine yards, that's something we haven't heard from
- 27:46Speaker 1: a Gino Smith's stat line in a while.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Well, i'll give the the pros and cons of it.
- 27:54Speaker 4: We'll go with the con first.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's preseason against the Steelers, who are playing a
- 27:58Speaker 2: very vanilla defense and not tepping hand. The Jets and
- 28:01Speaker 2: Steelers don't play this season, so it's not like they're
- 28:04Speaker 2: trying to hide something from each other. But the thing
- 28:08Speaker 2: that I liked in that first drive is what I
- 28:13Speaker 2: like the touchdown, the play that Frank Reich, who I
- 28:17Speaker 2: think is going to be a positive for the Jets
- 28:19Speaker 2: this year, the play that he designed and then Smith
- 28:23Speaker 2: and Jelani Woods executed it perfectly. But again, the fact
- 28:28Speaker 2: they went seven for seven means Alex, I'm gonna be
- 28:32Speaker 2: asket with you doesn't mean anything to me as far
- 28:35Speaker 2: as optimism or anything like that.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Do I think the Jets are gonna be more watchable
- 28:39Speaker 4: this year? I do the thing. The other thing I liked.
- 28:42Speaker 4: I liked number two, the overall number two pick.
- 28:45Speaker 2: David Bailey just shred it. Shred Jones, the Steelers starting
- 28:51Speaker 2: right tackle. Actually he was held on the play, but
- 28:54Speaker 2: that didn't stop David Bailey. He still was able to
- 28:58Speaker 2: sack the quarterback. That's that caught my eye. These exhibition
- 29:05Speaker 2: game results mean nothing, no matter what ESPN or people
- 29:10Speaker 2: want to say.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I think it might be a sellout next week with
- 29:15Speaker 1: the Giants and Jets. I've got a feeling that's gonna
- 29:17Speaker 1: be a sold out crowd because sometimes it's not. Sometimes
- 29:20Speaker 1: they hit or missed, but with Harball there and then
- 29:22Speaker 1: you know, maybe Jet fans are enthusia this year.
- 29:24Speaker 3: I don't know what I have to see.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Well, let's say I said it's all about twenty seven.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Because they have the three number one picks. I think
- 29:34Speaker 2: the Jets gonna be watchable. I don't think they're gonna
- 29:36Speaker 2: be unwatchable. I think but again, why are they gonna
- 29:40Speaker 2: win six games? Is it gonna be a quote unquote
- 29:43Speaker 2: a good six and eleven? Why a good six and eleven?
- 29:46Speaker 2: That they looked organized, that Aaron Glenn understands clock management
- 29:52Speaker 2: better than he did last year. It's six and eleven
- 29:55Speaker 2: good enough for Aaron Glenn to keep his job. I
- 29:58Speaker 2: don't think so, but I think it might be. But
- 30:01Speaker 2: I'm going to put something out there. I have a
- 30:03Speaker 2: feeling there's gonna be a lot of coaches available at
- 30:06Speaker 2: the end of this season, and I think Kyle Shanahan
- 30:10Speaker 2: is going to be available. He's been there ten years.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I'm not saying he's getting fired. They were twelve and
- 30:15Speaker 2: five last year. The Niners, as you touched base a
- 30:18Speaker 2: couple of seconds ago, having a very stressful training camp.
- 30:24Speaker 2: They have a lot of guys hurt, a lot of
- 30:26Speaker 2: guys hurt who are now older. It takes longer for
- 30:29Speaker 2: guys to recover. It just might be at the end
- 30:32Speaker 2: of this this year where Kyle Shanahan says, you know
- 30:35Speaker 2: what time to go somewhere else. The Jets do have
- 30:38Speaker 2: three number one draft picks, so that'll be attractive tool
- 30:41Speaker 2: guy like Shannahan who knows how to develop quarterbacks, because
- 30:44Speaker 2: the Jets are drafting a quarterback next year, whether they
- 30:49Speaker 2: use those picks to trade up to get to get
- 30:53Speaker 2: in the top three, they might be in the top
- 30:55Speaker 2: three on record anyway, I think Shan's going to be available.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Mike Tomlin's going to be available.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I think Marcus Freeman might be available because I think
- 31:07Speaker 2: Marcus Freeman, especially if No Day wins a championship. I
- 31:11Speaker 2: heard him interviewed a couple of times recently. He is
- 31:14Speaker 2: so disgusted what's going on and it's not even college
- 31:17Speaker 2: sports anymore, whatever you want, whatever you want to label it, uh,
- 31:21Speaker 2: Triple A Sports, NFL two. He's so disgusted what's going
- 31:26Speaker 2: on in in college sports. He might be available. I
- 31:29Speaker 2: would say that would be a long shot.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I was in Nast for something too, But I'll ask
- 31:33Speaker 1: you after this point is maybe because of Notre Dame,
- 31:35Speaker 1: but I want to okay finish.
- 31:38Speaker 2: I think Kevin O'Connell will be available from the Vikings.
- 31:42Speaker 2: He might, and he has UH he has close ties
- 31:46Speaker 2: with with with Moujie the Jets GM, and I think
- 31:49Speaker 2: maybe if you're looking at a college coach that might
- 31:52Speaker 2: be available at the INDUS ship, maybe a guy like
- 31:54Speaker 2: like Lincoln Raleigh at USC. I mean, I see those
- 31:57Speaker 2: five guys, don't was your thought? The other thing that
- 32:01Speaker 2: I could see happening if the Cincinnati Bengals have another
- 32:05Speaker 2: bad year, yeah, Burrow might say, you know what time
- 32:13Speaker 2: for me to go? He might try to force a trade,
- 32:16Speaker 2: and I would give I would give.
- 32:18Speaker 4: All three number ones for Burrow.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I will give him all three number ones and the
- 32:21Speaker 2: number two because he's better than anybody who's gonna be drafted.
- 32:25Speaker 2: And I know there's gonna be a lot of great
- 32:27Speaker 2: quarterbacks next year and the Jets will get hopefully one
- 32:30Speaker 2: of them. But that doesn't happen. If the Bengals have
- 32:32Speaker 2: a bad year, I could see Barrow trying to force
- 32:35Speaker 2: his way.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Out of there.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Well, by the way, I mean, unless Aaron Rodgers was
- 32:41Speaker 1: a little unique thing. But the Jets never go for
- 32:43Speaker 1: the flashy guy like that, so that'll be interesting if
- 32:45Speaker 1: they if they do. Now my couple thoughts are though,
- 32:49Speaker 1: and we'll get to the Giants also, because I I
- 32:51Speaker 1: do not want to see Jackson Dart on the field today,
- 32:53Speaker 1: especially after get it rocked last week.
- 32:55Speaker 3: I just don't risk it. You don't keep him the
- 32:58Speaker 3: regular agree with you.
- 33:00Speaker 4: I totally agree with you.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I mean that hit looked very targeted anyway, but just
- 33:05Speaker 1: don't risk it.
- 33:07Speaker 3: He's your future right there. What do you do? NOK
- 33:09Speaker 3: about the pre season like that?
- 33:10Speaker 4: Do do that?
- 33:11Speaker 1: But let me ask you this, because you know we
- 33:13Speaker 1: talk finances and all that, and where I go to
- 33:15Speaker 1: games and all that. Philly's Braves in September or Notre
- 33:20Speaker 1: Dame Syracuse in November. I love chasing the travel and
- 33:25Speaker 1: see the Notre Dame irish because they're very low They've
- 33:28Speaker 1: been local a little bit compared to other years. So
- 33:30Speaker 1: what do you think should I invest in?
- 33:32Speaker 3: Both? Are just the Notre Dame boies?
- 33:33Speaker 2: Well, well, since since they're not on the same day,
- 33:37Speaker 2: I would consider investing in both.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Now.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Notre Dame Syracuse is at is at the Carrier Dome
- 33:43Speaker 2: is at Syracuse.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Yeah, there' have been Syracuse and it's only like a
- 33:45Speaker 1: three four hour drive away from me.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Yeah, well that might be that. That's a good road trip,
- 33:51Speaker 2: and I Not Dame is gonna be very good. They're
- 33:53Speaker 2: gonna be very very good. They are a National Championship
- 33:56Speaker 2: contender this year. So if you're asking me which one
- 34:00Speaker 2: the two I'm going to, I'm going to Syracuse, a
- 34:03Speaker 2: Notre Dame. Ye know, here's the thing, Syracuse and no day.
- 34:08Speaker 2: You know they're inside, so you know there's not gonna
- 34:10Speaker 2: be You're not gonna it's.
- 34:11Speaker 4: Not a weather issue.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I would. That's what I would do if
- 34:16Speaker 2: you're ascued.
- 34:17Speaker 1: But you know me, I'm gonna do them both at
- 34:19Speaker 1: the end of the day. So we'll have to say
- 34:21Speaker 1: I'm already going. Well, we'll see where I lend to
- 34:24Speaker 1: next week. So I'm excited for that trip. So we'll
- 34:26Speaker 1: see what happens.
- 34:27Speaker 2: But that'll be exciting. The Cubs one hundred and sixtieth anniversary.
- 34:30Speaker 3: You know, I'm excited for that.
- 34:31Speaker 1: But anyway, you know I I just after you mentioned
- 34:36Speaker 1: O'Connell and the Vikings, I just thought of myself, Man,
- 34:38Speaker 1: they rock Dart. I don't want to see Dart out
- 34:40Speaker 1: there the rest of the preseason. He needs to be preserved.
- 34:43Speaker 1: And you know we're almost there now. Did they cut
- 34:47Speaker 1: down the preseason to two games or what? Am I
- 34:50Speaker 1: missing something or something?
- 34:51Speaker 4: You know, it's three, it's three, it's three.
- 34:53Speaker 2: It'll eventually be two when they go to the eighteen
- 34:56Speaker 2: game schedule, which they're going into.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Because you keep anything, they want to do it by
- 35:00Speaker 1: President's Day and it still might be a super white President.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Well I think is it this year or next year?
- 35:08Speaker 2: Just the way the schedule sets up now it will
- 35:12Speaker 2: the super Bowl will be on President's Day Sunday, but
- 35:15Speaker 2: they want to make that, they want to make that
- 35:17Speaker 2: an annual thing. This it's I don't and again I
- 35:21Speaker 2: don't know if it's this February or next February. Super
- 35:25Speaker 2: Bowl Sunday is on President's Day weekend. So but that's
- 35:29Speaker 2: going to happen on a permanent basis in a very
- 35:31Speaker 2: near future.
- 35:33Speaker 3: So what would that mean?
- 35:34Speaker 1: Eight game schedule, but they still have the weekend between
- 35:37Speaker 1: championship and Super Bowl y.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, still yes, they'll push it. They'll push it
- 35:42Speaker 2: back to President's Weekend where on an annual basis, Like
- 35:46Speaker 2: I said, I think the way the calendar falls, and
- 35:48Speaker 2: they think it's next year not this year, you know,
- 35:54Speaker 2: on President Day weekend naturally, but they're going to do
- 35:57Speaker 2: it that that's what it's going to be.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Yeah, well it'll be fascinating for sure.
- 36:04Speaker 3: What happens this week? All right? This upcoming a couple
- 36:08Speaker 3: of years.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Because as you keep saying, the especially MLB an NFL
- 36:12Speaker 1: will keep realigning. It seems like so that that's what
- 36:15Speaker 1: we're seeing time and time again. So we'll see or
- 36:18Speaker 1: readjusting the schedule, I should say with that stuff. All right,
- 36:23Speaker 1: speaking of all four sports that we talk about every
- 36:27Speaker 1: day or every week, we have this discussion on the
- 36:32Speaker 1: off the air, but I want to bring it on
- 36:33Speaker 1: the air for a minute. Am I right to say
- 36:35Speaker 1: that baseball is unlike any other sport where you can
- 36:37Speaker 1: literally spend a few bucks and watch baseball history any
- 36:41Speaker 1: given night. I feel like you don't see that with NFL.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Maybe NHL have to get a hat trick or something
- 36:46Speaker 1: like that, but all the records seem to be really
- 36:49Speaker 1: kept in baseball, notice more than other sports, which you
- 36:52Speaker 1: agree with.
- 36:53Speaker 4: That one hundred percent.
- 36:54Speaker 1: I would agree with that, and the fact that they
- 36:57Speaker 1: are unique in things like a triple, like a cycle,
- 36:59Speaker 1: like a no hitter, like a perfect game. You don't
- 37:01Speaker 1: get that at any other sport.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Louis Oh, Alex, you're one thousand percent right, even not
- 37:06Speaker 2: even talking about record, just talking about the fact that
- 37:09Speaker 2: the game is played without a clock.
- 37:11Speaker 4: I'll make it real. I'll make it real quick.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Here on Thursday afternoon, I'm watching the Reds and the Cardinals.
- 37:17Speaker 2: The Reds are the Reds are up five to four.
- 37:20Speaker 2: The Cardinals have two runners on top of the ninth
- 37:24Speaker 2: outfielder drops the fly ball for the Reds. Two runs
- 37:28Speaker 2: score for the Cardinals. They still they continue the inning.
- 37:33Speaker 2: They not only score two runs to go up six
- 37:35Speaker 2: to five, they add four more runes go up ten
- 37:37Speaker 2: to five.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Game over correct well.
- 37:40Speaker 2: With two outs in the ninth inning, the Reds have
- 37:42Speaker 2: the bases loaded. They score four runs to make it
- 37:46Speaker 2: ten to nine, and there was a fly ball to
- 37:51Speaker 2: right to end the game. The point being, you can't
- 37:54Speaker 2: ice the puck in baseball. You can't run run out
- 37:59Speaker 2: the clock in football by just keeping ball on the ground.
- 38:02Speaker 2: It's a fascinating game historically, record wise, Like you just said, it's.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Six dollar tickets or whatever and see history for that
- 38:12Speaker 1: amount of money.
- 38:13Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Absolutely, it's it's it's so true. You're on hundred percent correct.
- 38:19Speaker 1: It's fantastic sport and a little Yankee history happened this week.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Garrett Cole passing Roger Clemens on the old time Yankee
- 38:27Speaker 1: strikeout list, which I thought was interesting. And you know
- 38:31Speaker 1: that's coming off a year and what a year and
- 38:33Speaker 1: a half or so without playing. I mean, he's making
- 38:36Speaker 1: records this year. It's like he's back. If you and
- 38:38Speaker 1: I thought it didn't look well, he didn't look as
- 38:41Speaker 1: in shape, but he looks pretty good now and he's
- 38:43Speaker 1: been pitching pretty good the last second part of the year.
- 38:45Speaker 4: So yeah, Alex, I agree with you.
- 38:47Speaker 2: He doesn't look like he's in shape since he came back,
- 38:50Speaker 2: but it's not affecting his pitching at all. Bulldog, you know,
- 38:53Speaker 2: the guy's a bulldog. You know he's an if they
- 38:57Speaker 2: allowed him, like he's an old style pitcher, if they
- 39:01Speaker 2: allow him to go eight nine innings, they just don't
- 39:04Speaker 2: do it nowadays.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Oh, Man, Louis School.
- 39:06Speaker 1: I'm going to miss when Shuss retired, when Cole's retired,
- 39:11Speaker 1: Verlander's retiring, right, I mean.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Yeah, no, you'll never see those guys again.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Hey, it's part of my childhood, right, Verlanders specifically, and
- 39:18Speaker 1: then sures Are and then you know Cole watching him
- 39:22Speaker 1: with the Astros and now coming to the Yankees. I mean,
- 39:25Speaker 1: you grow up with these guys and they're all leaving
- 39:27Speaker 1: and the new pictures are just their baby. Look at
- 39:29Speaker 1: Paul Sket's he's had a rough year, and I do
- 39:32Speaker 1: believe it's because the pirates are screwing him up.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I really believe that, Louie.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Well, again, I can't say I disagree with you. I
- 39:41Speaker 2: mean I can't. I'm not saying it's for sure. But
- 39:44Speaker 2: he's lost two miles off his fastball. And this is
- 39:47Speaker 2: where I agree with Stern's. This is where I do
- 39:50Speaker 2: agree with David Sterns. I would not get he doesn't
- 39:53Speaker 2: want to give pictures like eight years and seven years.
- 39:56Speaker 4: I don't think he can.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I think you're screwing you your hay roll when you
- 40:01Speaker 2: do that, because these guys are.
- 40:02Speaker 4: Going to get hurt.
- 40:04Speaker 2: These guys are going to get hurt. Now what schemes
- 40:06Speaker 2: in his third year?
- 40:08Speaker 1: And that's probably the thinking of not locking up Schooball
- 40:10Speaker 1: instead of they went to McGonagall and locked him up
- 40:13Speaker 1: for eight years or something like that.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Absolutely, you're a very good that's a very good point.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Same with the actually pirates are the same thing. They
- 40:20Speaker 3: locked up Connor Griffin for all that.
- 40:22Speaker 4: Yes they did those years. So one last thing if
- 40:27Speaker 4: it is the last thing, if.
- 40:28Speaker 1: You have, I'm gonna talk at the moon today, like
- 40:31Speaker 1: there's just so much we haven't covered yet, Like hockey's
- 40:34Speaker 1: coming up in a little bit. I know you want
- 40:36Speaker 1: to talk about that. I'm sure, yeah.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Well, uh, But the thing that to keep an eye
- 40:41Speaker 2: on the situation with the majority owner of the Dodgers,
- 40:47Speaker 2: Mark Walter, under federal investigation. Somebody blew the whistle on
- 40:54Speaker 2: the sky. I mean, he bought the Lakers less than
- 40:57Speaker 2: a year ago, like ten months ago, for ten dollars,
- 41:01Speaker 2: sold them a couple of weeks ago for twelve point
- 41:07Speaker 2: six billion. Nice profit in ten months. The Lakers had
- 41:10Speaker 2: been sold three times in sixty six years. I guess
- 41:15Speaker 2: he needed that cash to pay to pay off some
- 41:19Speaker 2: other businesses he this guy, this is a big keep
- 41:24Speaker 2: an eye on this.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Alex Mark Walter is the.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Main investor in the pre Premier women's hockey league. He
- 41:30Speaker 2: owns the Dodgers. You know, he's using money to pay
- 41:34Speaker 2: off his big loans, you know, Robin Peter, to pay
- 41:38Speaker 2: Paul you gotta be I don't know if this is
- 41:41Speaker 2: another Ponzi scheme, but this is a problem. I don't
- 41:46Speaker 2: know if this is a problem that Major League Baseball
- 41:49Speaker 2: really wants at this time with the collective Bargaining agreement
- 41:52Speaker 2: coming out. Again, this is way above my knowledge and
- 41:57Speaker 2: pay grade. So I'm certainly not the financial guy.
- 42:02Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Did he did he use did he use this money
- 42:07Speaker 2: to pay off other loans illegally?
- 42:09Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Just something that just something to keep an eye on.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And remember, Mark Walter now only owns the Dodgers and
- 42:18Speaker 2: the and the Lakers, and he's the major investor in
- 42:22Speaker 2: the Premier Women's Hockey League. The Champs of trophy is
- 42:25Speaker 2: named the Walter Cup with the Walter Trophy after him.
- 42:29Speaker 2: He also owns Chelsea uh in the Premiere in the
- 42:33Speaker 2: Premier League Soccer League. He I believe he owns the Sparks.
- 42:38Speaker 2: He I believe he owns Los Angeles Football Club in MLS.
- 42:42Speaker 2: This is something I keep an eye on, this Mark
- 42:45Speaker 2: Walter situation. This could be very very sticky moving forward.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm magic Johnson got involved with him,
- 42:53Speaker 1: right and all that other stuff or what? Oh yeah, yeah,
- 42:55Speaker 1: so crazy times in l A. And I feel like
- 42:59Speaker 1: this controversy just fits the bill for what's going on
- 43:04Speaker 1: in La. It's just crazy right now. So we'll have
- 43:06Speaker 1: to see, all right, you know what I do want
- 43:08Speaker 1: to get into because everybody got hyped up seeing Maxie
- 43:11Speaker 1: and Brown and you know, Lebron together. I guess doing
- 43:16Speaker 1: some workout or whatever. But Lou, why are the Heat
- 43:19Speaker 1: not getting much play right now? I mean the Heat
- 43:22Speaker 1: upgraded too, and I don't I get it. Told Ryan,
- 43:25Speaker 1: I said, nobody's looking at Giannis and.
- 43:26Speaker 3: The Heat right now. It's so fascinating. But that was
- 43:28Speaker 3: a big.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Deal, and I think the Heater is gonna be right
- 43:30Speaker 1: back in contention here with this.
- 43:32Speaker 2: So well, you're right, they got Giannis. I mean, who's
- 43:36Speaker 2: not only a great offensive player, is a great defensive player.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Yes see, he's a little older, but he's still falling
- 43:42Speaker 2: thirty one. I think he reanogize being down in Miami.
- 43:47Speaker 2: They have a great coach and last night they saw
- 43:50Speaker 2: in Klay Thompson to a two year deal. I mean
- 43:53Speaker 2: it's not the Clay Thompson of his physical prime, but
- 43:55Speaker 2: the guy still even last year hit thirty eight percent
- 43:59Speaker 2: of his three points and he will open up the
- 44:01Speaker 2: floor for fort of bio for for the Greek freak.
- 44:07Speaker 4: They'll be good.
- 44:08Speaker 2: How good, I don't know, but you one thing you
- 44:11Speaker 2: most of the time, the Heat played better than their
- 44:15Speaker 2: rosters should play because spotsures are with the coach and
- 44:22Speaker 2: you know they they always have good chemistry. So yeah,
- 44:25Speaker 2: they'll be they'll be the East. The East this year
- 44:29Speaker 2: it's tougher than it's been in the last five years.
- 44:32Speaker 1: But I'm kind of that by also saying Derosian going
- 44:34Speaker 1: in the Nuggets adds a little element to the West now.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Said, no doubt about it. Even though he's thirty seven.
- 44:40Speaker 2: He's a great mid range jump shooter. Uh so, Uh,
- 44:44Speaker 2: the Nuggets had cap issues, so they had bringing him
- 44:49Speaker 2: in for a couple of years.
- 44:50Speaker 4: I don't think hurts the Nuggets. I don't know what level.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Of championship level that they are at this stage obviously
- 44:59Speaker 2: when the season begins, but the East is gonna be
- 45:03Speaker 2: tougher than it's been in a long while.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's gonna be a fun thing.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I think the Knicks are they still got their course,
- 45:11Speaker 1: so they'll be okay, I think, I mean they'll they'll
- 45:14Speaker 1: be up there. You know, it's always funny because they're
- 45:16Speaker 1: always now say. The thing is, though they get by
- 45:19Speaker 1: with being a fifth or sixth seed that if in
- 45:22Speaker 1: the conference, because well it's the Knicks. You better believe
- 45:25Speaker 1: New York's that I want to be the first how after,
- 45:28Speaker 1: you know, New York fans are gonna be like, why
- 45:30Speaker 1: are we in fifth?
- 45:30Speaker 3: We just won the chip chip, you know what I mean.
- 45:33Speaker 4: So we'll have to see the only thing.
- 45:35Speaker 2: The only thing that Knicks have to worry about is
- 45:37Speaker 2: not don't worry about where Vegas hasm peg. You know,
- 45:43Speaker 2: as far as repeating, they just gotta do.
- 45:45Speaker 4: What they do, just gotta. I think they should try
- 45:49Speaker 4: to play a little bit better in the regular season.
- 45:50Speaker 2: I think they will because, like I said a couple
- 45:52Speaker 2: of seconds ago, the East is tougher. So, uh, we'll
- 45:58Speaker 2: see what happens. I don't know what the Celtics are
- 46:00Speaker 2: going to look like. I have no idea at this time.
- 46:03Speaker 2: I don't know if they're going to be I mean,
- 46:05Speaker 2: last year they they overachieved when we thought that they
- 46:09Speaker 2: might be in the plane and they were the second
- 46:11Speaker 2: seed in the conference. So, you know, because they didn't
- 46:17Speaker 2: have Tatum until the very end, and so the Celtics
- 46:21Speaker 2: are interesting that you know, with the trade of Jalen Brown,
- 46:25Speaker 2: UNSS Paul George as a fountain of youth revival.
- 46:30Speaker 4: They didn't win that trade in my opinion.
- 46:34Speaker 3: Well, we'll have to see, all right.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Two more things crossed my mind before we sign out today.
- 46:38Speaker 3: I mean, I mean.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Two more things. Can we get rid of the joint practices?
- 46:44Speaker 1: Do you like the joint practices with these teams?
- 46:47Speaker 2: I'm so glad you brought that up, because that was
- 46:49Speaker 2: on my notes to talk about and I would have forgot.
- 46:52Speaker 4: If you're gonna bring it up, let's get rid of the.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Joint practices that we saw it last week. Jets and
- 46:57Speaker 2: Buccaneers we saw it. This week, Giant Dolphins we saw
- 47:01Speaker 2: I guess it was really bad between Dallas and New Orleans.
- 47:06Speaker 2: With these joint practices, both Dallas and New Orleans will
- 47:11Speaker 2: find five hundred thousand dollars each by the NFL.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know what good comes out of it,
- 47:20Speaker 2: but you have guys, especially the fringe guys that are
- 47:24Speaker 2: fighting for their NFL lives, who sometimes might think if
- 47:29Speaker 2: they're a little aggressive and a little belligerent, somebody will
- 47:33Speaker 2: take notice. I don't know, but doesn't look like these
- 47:36Speaker 2: joint practices are you know, are a positive thing. You'd
- 47:41Speaker 2: have to talk to a coach about it to see
- 47:43Speaker 2: if they get well.
- 47:45Speaker 3: They look pretty dumb, to be honest with you, it's
- 47:47Speaker 3: pretty dumb.
- 47:48Speaker 4: I mean it is.
- 47:49Speaker 2: I mean the Jets and Giants had joint practices. Is
- 47:53Speaker 2: a couple of years in a row, and they ended
- 47:55Speaker 2: up in fights. And I think I think one year
- 47:58Speaker 2: the Jets and the Pan there is a couple of
- 48:00Speaker 2: years ago.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Didn't Day will end up in his fight with someone.
- 48:04Speaker 3: I thought, I thought, I said.
- 48:05Speaker 4: So nice. I think you're right.
- 48:06Speaker 2: It's it's maybe it's time to put them the pasture.
- 48:10Speaker 4: And again there's referees.
- 48:12Speaker 2: There's a referee and a full crew of game officials
- 48:19Speaker 2: at these at these joint practices.
- 48:21Speaker 4: But when you get you.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Know, you got guys who are kicking the crap out
- 48:24Speaker 2: of each other. There are limitations you can't.
- 48:26Speaker 1: And it's hot out. People forget about that, and it's hot.
- 48:30Speaker 4: It's hot. You are correct.
- 48:31Speaker 2: I don't I don't know if we need them anymore.
- 48:33Speaker 2: I don't know if any any good comes out of them.
- 48:36Speaker 2: I know, I don't know if joint practice.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Are worth it.
- 48:39Speaker 1: I don't think so. I think they just they add
- 48:41Speaker 1: to theay chaos. There was that, and then the other
- 48:45Speaker 1: thing I had. I don't know it was in your notes,
- 48:46Speaker 1: but you know a lot of these. And I'm talking
- 48:48Speaker 1: about the Yankees here because that's the team I follow
- 48:51Speaker 1: the most, but maybe it's all teams.
- 48:54Speaker 3: You know.
- 48:54Speaker 1: I'm noticing that when guys are coming back, the guys
- 48:58Speaker 1: that are afraid they're going to be called down get hotter.
- 49:01Speaker 1: So Spencer Jones hitting the ball now because I think
- 49:03Speaker 1: he's a preat he's gonna be sent down. And maybe
- 49:06Speaker 1: that happens on every team. I don't know if you
- 49:07Speaker 1: noticed that, but like.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Well, again I haven't done a study on it, but yes,
- 49:14Speaker 2: Spencer Jones getting having a couple of good games might
- 49:19Speaker 2: make it a tough Frost decision for the Yankees as
- 49:23Speaker 2: Belgium comes back.
- 49:26Speaker 4: Again.
- 49:26Speaker 2: I don't know they're not going to DFA Ramos because
- 49:29Speaker 2: he picked up in a second.
- 49:32Speaker 4: So, yeah, you're right.
- 49:34Speaker 2: It does make a it does seem that, okay, I
- 49:38Speaker 2: better get my It's it's like one of a boss
- 49:41Speaker 2: will will tell you, you know what, you gotta do a
- 49:43Speaker 2: better job, and then for the next four or five
- 49:46Speaker 2: weeks we make sure that we have all our tea's
- 49:50Speaker 2: crossed and.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Our eyes dotted.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think the competition sometimes is good and.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Being a bosses And I don't know really in told
- 49:58Speaker 1: for saying this, but if water is So was listening
- 50:00Speaker 1: to us, we'd love to be part of the network.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Since you guys have.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Visually acquired our old home lose old home sale media,
- 50:08Speaker 1: how about that?
- 50:08Speaker 3: What a media news this week?
- 50:09Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that was a big It became official on
- 50:13Speaker 2: on a Thursday, and uh we'll see how it all
- 50:17Speaker 2: shakes out.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Amen to that, all right, Louis Terminello, always a pleasure.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Do you have any hockey notes for us? Because it's
- 50:24Speaker 1: right around the corner. We're literally a week in a
- 50:25Speaker 1: month away, which is just I never talked about that
- 50:28Speaker 1: in September, you know, but.
- 50:29Speaker 4: Yeah, now it's it's it's crazy.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Uh nothing U this week?
- 50:35Speaker 3: I guess, well, the Rangers picked up another defenseman.
- 50:37Speaker 1: And I tell you, for all the crap I've given
- 50:39Speaker 1: this guy as yeah, he's making moves, okay, like I've.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Seen him make the moves this year this summer.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Okay, all right, we'll close with uh with with a
- 50:50Speaker 2: hockey note that I was where I was reading the
- 50:53Speaker 2: other day on the Hockey News, they did they did
- 50:59Speaker 2: a survey. Unfortunately I missed the survey because I would
- 51:02Speaker 2: have definitely participated in it, and they kill fans do
- 51:10Speaker 2: you have confidence in your general manager and front office personnel?
- 51:17Speaker 2: And the results came out earlier in the week, like
- 51:20Speaker 2: on Wednesday or Thursday.
- 51:22Speaker 4: And number one.
- 51:24Speaker 2: The Stanley Cup champions their fans have the utmost confidence
- 51:28Speaker 2: in Carolina. The top seven or eight were all Chalk Tampa.
- 51:35Speaker 2: You know, all the Dallas Carolina. The only one in
- 51:40Speaker 2: the top seven or eight that surprised me that was
- 51:43Speaker 2: new was was the was Utah. Their fans have confidence
- 51:47Speaker 2: in their general manager and the front office. But here
- 51:51Speaker 2: is this is where the three local teams fans confidence
- 51:56Speaker 2: level was. The New Jersey Devils are the three local
- 51:59Speaker 2: teams the highest, which surprises me since Sunny Meta just
- 52:04Speaker 2: got there three months ago, and I think their coach,
- 52:08Speaker 2: Sheldon Sheldon a kif is on the hot seat. But
- 52:12Speaker 2: they they were thirteenth in a fan confidence for GM
- 52:17Speaker 2: and front office. The Islanders were twentieth and dead last,
- 52:24Speaker 2: and I don't think.
- 52:24Speaker 4: He deserves it.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Was the guy that you that you've been torturing for
- 52:30Speaker 2: the last two three years was Chris Drury. He was
- 52:34Speaker 2: thirty seconds and I think he's done a better job
- 52:37Speaker 2: than that.
- 52:38Speaker 4: But that's just me.
- 52:41Speaker 2: I mean, I'm interesting to see how Dora Fioff does.
- 52:46Speaker 3: How the draft picks do like I am.
- 52:49Speaker 1: I mean, I'm actually a little more intrigued in the
- 52:51Speaker 1: development now because I think you need to develop again
- 52:53Speaker 1: and just not sorry from scratch, but I feel like
- 52:56Speaker 1: you almost have to in a sense with everybody that's
- 52:58Speaker 1: been traded a well, they.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Got the fifty, they got the fifth overall pick last year.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Is Alex Smith's going to make the team. I think
- 53:04Speaker 2: he has a chance to make the team. Uh, coming
- 53:07Speaker 2: out of training camp.
- 53:09Speaker 3: But we mentioned Patrick Kane.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Do you know he got a minute sitting ovation in
- 53:12Speaker 1: Chicago before he threw the first pitch out.
- 53:14Speaker 3: The other day.
- 53:15Speaker 4: I actually was watching. I saw that that was great.
- 53:18Speaker 2: Well, they also sang, he also sang take me out
- 53:21Speaker 2: to the ball game.
- 53:22Speaker 3: Look in.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Then I'm excited. Chicago loves their sports. They love their fans,
- 53:28Speaker 1: and they just I mean the fans love their sports.
- 53:30Speaker 1: They they ride or die with them in every sport.
- 53:33Speaker 2: It's no, it's a heck, it's a heck of a
- 53:35Speaker 2: sports town, no doubt about it.
- 53:38Speaker 1: My kind of town, as mister Sinatra would sing. All right, Louis,
- 53:42Speaker 1: I can't wait for a week from now that now
- 53:44Speaker 1: that we're talking about it, to be back in the
- 53:46Speaker 1: friendly confines will be exciting. So we'll see they will
- 53:50Speaker 1: do a report life from Chicago. That would because that
- 53:52Speaker 1: would be great.
- 53:52Speaker 2: I would love to do that, you know, or sit outside.
- 53:55Speaker 2: You know they have those cafes right outside the stadium
- 53:58Speaker 2: in Wrigleyville, do it from there? Cool?
- 54:02Speaker 1: All right, terminos take going on the road with me.
- 54:04Speaker 4: I love it.
- 54:04Speaker 1: All right, that's a great week of coverage we just had,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and we'll see what happens. But yes, to end the show,
- 54:10Speaker 1: Yang's a week earlier than my thought process of August
- 54:12Speaker 1: twenty eighth, three games behind. Tell you what if they
- 54:16Speaker 1: can end enter September ahead the division, A lot of
- 54:20Speaker 1: things seem more possible. So we'll have to say especially everybody,
- 54:22Speaker 1: come back, all right, Louis, love you, man, and thanks
- 54:24Speaker 1: for always being there on one like of Alex Media
- 54:28Speaker 4: Dak Y Alex always a pleasure
