Transcript
- 0:00The spiritual seeker starts out from the standpoint of the human
- 0:04individual, the ego consciousness.
- 0:07The process of spiritual development involves A
- 0:10systematic shift of the standpoint to the divine
- 0:14standpoint. This process does not occur
- 0:17overnight and does not proceed automatically, but requires some
- 0:22effort on the part of the individual.
- 0:25Without this effort, the human nature remains essentially
- 0:29unchanged, locked into the ego personality and unable to fully
- 0:34integrate the higher powers of consciousness.
- 0:38In his book The Mother, Sri Aurobindo devotes several
- 0:41chapters to this process, the steps along the way and the
- 0:45needed personal effort, both in terms of what it needs to be and
- 0:50the rationale for such effort. Quote The personal effort
- 0:55required is a triple labor of aspiration, rejection and
- 0:59surrender. In proportion as the surrender
- 1:03and self consecration progress, the sodic becomes conscious of
- 1:07the divine Shakti doing the Sadhna, pouring into him more
- 1:11and more of Herself, founding in him the freedom and perfection
- 1:16of the divine nature. The more this conscious process
- 1:20replaces his own effort, the more rapid and true becomes his
- 1:24progress. But it cannot completely replace
- 1:27the necessity of personal effort until the surrender and
- 1:31consecration are pure and complete from top to bottom.
- 1:37Note that a Temasek surrender, refusing to fulfill the
- 1:40conditions and calling on God to do everything and save one all
- 1:45the trouble and struggle is a deception and does not lead to
- 1:50freedom and perfection. He goes on in this same text to
- 1:55outline the nature and detailed steps of the aspiration, the
- 1:59rejection and the surrender. It becomes quickly obvious that
- 2:04as long as one still is based in the ego, there is a need to tune
- 2:09the aspiration to the higher powers, to remove the
- 2:13obstructions and static in the reception of the higher forces
- 2:17into one's being and to then allow those forces to act to
- 2:22transform the mental, vital and physical aspects of the being.
- 2:28Sriorabinda writes quote. It is not possible to get rid of
- 2:33the stress on personal effort at once and not always desirable,
- 2:37for personal effort is better than temasek inertia.
- 2:42The personal effort has to be transformed progressively into a
- 2:45movement of the divine force. If you feel conscious of the
- 2:50divine force, then call it in more and more to govern your
- 2:55effort, to take it up, to transform it into something not
- 2:59yours but the Mother's. There will be a sort of
- 3:02transfer, a taking up of the forces at work in the personal
- 3:06Attar, a transfer not suddenly complete but progressive.
- 3:12But the psychic poise is necessary, the discrimination
- 3:16must develop which sees accurately what is the divine
- 3:20force, what is the element of personal effort, and what is
- 3:24brought in as a mixture from the lower cosmic forces.
- 3:29And until the transfer is complete, which always takes
- 3:32time, there must always be as a personal contribution, a
- 3:37constant consent to the true Force, a constant rejection of
- 3:43any lower mixture. At present, to give up personal
- 3:47effort is not what is wanted, but to call in more and more of
- 3:51the Divine Power and govern and guide it the personal endeavour.
