- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: You guys know, I've been talking about this past Russ
- 0:21Speaker 3: thing all freaking summers, and it's hard to look at
- 0:23Speaker 3: Daniel quality and be like, be good.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Sometimes a play like that will happen on the blod
- 0:26Speaker 4: somebody will say, Fred, what happened on that place? I
- 0:29Speaker 4: have no idea. I don't know. I don't know why
- 0:32Speaker 4: that guy was wide open character metaverse. Drake may was
- 0:38Speaker 4: in there. You wouldn't be going to get a draw.
- 0:39Speaker 5: No, no, no, no, But that's not the same thing. I
- 0:42Speaker 5: wouldn't have all that much more to faith that they're
- 0:45Speaker 5: going to convert it because they have no protection and
- 0:48Speaker 5: they have no threat.
- 0:49Speaker 4: But he'd figure it out. That's okay.
- 0:50Speaker 5: So you're thinking Gerad is really screwing this up there.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I think that he needs to make the call.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Okay, I think Girod is screwing it up. I'll say
- 0:57Speaker 5: it like Iana.
- 1:02Speaker 6: That's Nirvana.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Thanks Patty, who you don't know from Nirvana?
- 1:05Speaker 5: Have you heard they don't have a left tackle. Yeah.

- 1:17Speaker 4: Hello and welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:21Speaker 4: at Gillette Stadium talking to Patriots, returning the page to
- 1:25Speaker 4: the Miami Dolphins, a clash of one and three. I
- 1:30Speaker 4: can't quite say Titans, but yeah, the teams that are
- 1:35Speaker 4: struggling offensively.
- 1:36Speaker 5: The two worst offenses in the league. Yeah, yeah, you
- 1:39Speaker 5: know from a points.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Scored, Yes, you want to go by that, that's yeah, right.
- 1:43Speaker 5: I mean I don't want to go by a dot vo.
- 1:45Speaker 3: V d V because in those ones, they might be like, yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 4: It's Paul, it's Mike, it's fred emanab bye later, Michael
- 1:56Speaker 4: be leaving soon because he's got to go to the
- 1:57Speaker 4: locker room.
- 1:58Speaker 5: But yeah, it's nice of Mike Degree.
- 2:01Speaker 3: I didn't know what's going on. I don't know what
- 2:02Speaker 3: you guys are talking about. I want to sure he's
- 2:04Speaker 3: keeping on.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Top of well. Today Gerard Mayo spoke his Wednesday press conference,
- 2:10Speaker 4: which kind of historically talks about the next team and
- 2:14Speaker 4: so on.
- 2:15Speaker 5: But didn't get any Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to say you had some other things
- 2:18Speaker 4: to say, Mike, What are your take.
- 2:20Speaker 3: That what David Andrews is the headline for today? And
- 2:23Speaker 3: it sounds like, you know, Ian Rappaport reported and now
- 2:26Speaker 3: Mayo pretty much confirmed that David Andrews will be going
- 2:28Speaker 3: on ir seems like his season will be over. So
- 2:31Speaker 3: huge blow, I mean, another huge blow to an offensive
- 2:33Speaker 3: line that's already been really suffering tons of injuries, and
- 2:37Speaker 3: this is maybe the worst one. I mean, we talked
- 2:39Speaker 3: about having David Andrews in There was a nice piece
- 2:42Speaker 3: that you were hoping when Drake may does get in there,
- 2:44Speaker 3: that you have a veteran that can really help him.
- 2:46Speaker 3: And you know, now it's Nick Leverett. I thought he
- 2:48Speaker 3: did okay better, certainly better than I thought he did
- 2:50Speaker 3: in the summer when he played this weekend against the
- 2:53Speaker 3: forty nine ers. But you know, another captain, David Andrews.
- 2:55Speaker 3: We all know what he means to the team. It's
- 2:57Speaker 3: it's a huge loss and when they're gonna again have
- 3:00Speaker 3: to scramble and try.
- 3:01Speaker 6: To figure out how to replace him.
- 3:02Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a tough blow. Then you listened to
- 3:04Speaker 5: Jacoby Brissett and Dietrich Wise talk about, you know, his
- 3:08Speaker 5: presence just you know, in the locker room, and uh,
- 3:12Speaker 5: Brissett actually said that was one of the reasons that
- 3:14Speaker 5: one of the things that really made it attractive to
- 3:16Speaker 5: come back here was his relationship with David, so been
- 3:19Speaker 5: a good captain, good leader for a long time and
- 3:22Speaker 5: played through a lot. I'm hoping that, you know, because
- 3:26Speaker 5: there was a report this morning Mark Daniels had to
- 3:28Speaker 5: report this morning. It said that he had options. It was,
- 3:31Speaker 5: you know, he could have surgery, which would likely end
- 3:33Speaker 5: his season, but you know, would put him in line
- 3:37Speaker 5: to come back in twenty five, or try to play
- 3:41Speaker 5: through it, which would absolutely jeopardize the twenty five season
- 3:45Speaker 5: because it's putting surgery off, right. So I'm hoping that
- 3:50Speaker 5: his decision was to have the surgery now to sort of,
- 3:54Speaker 5: you know, get ready and come back next year. I
- 3:56Speaker 5: hope that's not the last we've seen of them. Yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 5: just put it that way.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Yeah, we don't oh.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yet, No, no, no, I mean, I definitely just.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Know that he's going on ir probably later today according to.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Gerard Regardless, I would put that as a high level
- 4:08Speaker 3: need for next year. Even if you're expecting David Andrews,
- 4:11Speaker 3: you know, I don't know how they feel about Jake Andrews.
- 4:13Speaker 3: He got in a little bit in the last year
- 4:15Speaker 3: as a guard was okay, but I think they need
- 4:17Speaker 3: to have a long term plan for that position. They've
- 4:20Speaker 3: drafted a lot of guards recently, but none of those
- 4:22Speaker 3: guys really snap. That's why they're a little bit scrambling
- 4:25Speaker 3: right now. So I think it's it's a need that
- 4:27Speaker 3: they'll have to address and think about the future with
- 4:30Speaker 3: the center position.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it's a need that I think can
- 4:33Speaker 4: be addressed mid mid draft, not even later in the draft.
- 4:37Speaker 5: And then maybe you know, like Mike brought up Jake Andrews,
- 4:40Speaker 5: and we've had a lot of listeners bring up Cole Strange.
- 4:43Speaker 5: You know, I'm not saying that that's a viable option
- 4:46Speaker 5: or not, but it might be just another possibility. Ye
- 4:49Speaker 5: ye can In addition to that, yes.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Kendrick Bourne practicing, Yeah, and he said and who as well.
- 4:57Speaker 3: So, so a little bit of reinforcements, I think, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 3: with we don't know about Dougger the reports right now
- 5:01Speaker 3: according to Karen grig And he's going to miss some time.
- 5:04Speaker 3: So I look, it's a three week window on Dougger.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Hard to say he's going to step right in and
- 5:08Speaker 3: be able to offset the loss of Dougger here and
- 5:11Speaker 3: right out of the gate. But good to get him
- 5:14Speaker 3: into the mix. Good to get Taki Taki into the mix,
- 5:16Speaker 3: and Born I think can bring a little little juice
- 5:18Speaker 3: to the to the receiver room. I think there's a
- 5:20Speaker 3: spot for him. You know, I remember the summer you're
- 5:22Speaker 3: thinking where does he fit in? And now I definitely
- 5:24Speaker 3: know where he fits in. They need him and hopefully
- 5:26Speaker 3: he can pick up where he left off last summer.
- 5:28Speaker 3: But we'll see when these guys are actually even going
- 5:30Speaker 3: to be activated to the roster. It's one thing to
- 5:32Speaker 3: come back to pros.
- 5:33Speaker 4: And he comments on Remandre just the continuing problem.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I wouldn't expect to see him in the starting
- 5:38Speaker 5: lineup on Sunday, based on.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Paul says with his eyebrows raised.
- 5:42Speaker 5: Now I'm having listened too. He was asked a pretty
- 5:48Speaker 5: direct question about his you know, you know, his playing time,
- 5:51Speaker 5: his starting role, and Mayo did not back away from it.
- 5:55Speaker 5: He said, no, I mean, at some point when you're
- 5:57Speaker 5: preaching ball security and and you're you're talking about consequences
- 6:02Speaker 5: and then you don't follow through, and it's you know,
- 6:05Speaker 5: I'm paraphrasing, but it's an idle threat, and I think
- 6:07Speaker 5: he understands that and recognizes that. And I'd be surprised
- 6:12Speaker 5: to see business as usual on Sunday with Ramandre Stevenson
- 6:16Speaker 5: out there on first and ten to open the game.
- 6:18Speaker 5: My guess is Antonio Gibson will be out there.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly what it sounded like. I mean, I
- 6:22Speaker 3: was that kind of impressed me that he was just
- 6:24Speaker 3: upfront like that, and that totally ranked true. You can't
- 6:27Speaker 3: say this and then yeah, except for Vermondre he's too important,
- 6:30Speaker 3: he's not no consequences. So, uh, maybe a chance for
- 6:33Speaker 3: Antonio Gibson, maybe go talk to him here in a minute, Yeah, hasty,
- 6:37Speaker 3: Hasty got a little bit action.
- 6:38Speaker 5: So you had a couple of towers the other day too.
- 6:40Speaker 3: It's kind of shifting.
- 6:41Speaker 5: I just think Gibson's a guy, and I'm not telling
- 6:44Speaker 5: he might be one of those utility players in baseball,
- 6:47Speaker 5: you know, Yeah, Jeff Fry.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Jeff Fry, when you try to make him the guy.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Yeah, you want to, you want to make him the
- 6:53Speaker 5: centerpiece of your running game, and maybe the production drop
- 6:55Speaker 5: a little bit, but if you you know, if you
- 7:01Speaker 5: just go by the first quarter of the season, his
- 7:04Speaker 5: like production per touch has been really good. Yeah, so
- 7:07Speaker 5: I want to see a little bit more of them,
- 7:10Speaker 5: see if he can you know, handle a little bit,
- 7:12Speaker 5: you know, bigger load.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I mean I'm afraid though, when he becomes
- 7:17Speaker 4: the main guy, production goes down.
- 7:20Speaker 5: I literally just said, I know, Jeff Fry, Jeff Fry team,
- 7:24Speaker 5: you know, but.
- 7:25Speaker 4: It's it's it hurts Remandre. When he's not fumbling the
- 7:29Speaker 4: ball has been productive and he's making guys miss. He's
- 7:33Speaker 4: running hard.
- 7:34Speaker 5: See, you know he was the first two weeks.
- 7:38Speaker 4: You know, I thought he had a good game last week, except.
- 7:40Speaker 5: For you thought he had a good game Sunday. Yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 5: he did nothing. Sunday. I thought he had one run
- 7:45Speaker 5: for thirteen yards. He average less than two yards of carry.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Otherwise, I thought he ran hard.
- 7:48Speaker 5: He had forty yards Fred.
- 7:50Speaker 4: And he would have had less if he hadn't been
- 7:53Speaker 4: breaking tackles.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I see him as.
- 7:58Speaker 5: I say this a lot, usually two or three times
- 8:00Speaker 5: a season. I wish Fred was like my coach or
- 8:03Speaker 5: my teacher in school. It's a very low bar.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I had my eye test says he's the best running
- 8:08Speaker 4: back on this team.
- 8:09Speaker 5: Your eye test tells you that that's right. Congrats. Yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 5: you see how he just changes it all. He went
- 8:14Speaker 5: from having a good game when he had forty yards too.
- 8:18Speaker 5: I don't know, but but based on what I see,
- 8:20Speaker 5: he's the best running back on the team.
- 8:22Speaker 3: What's the saying effective running backs are in the eye
- 8:24Speaker 3: the beholder?
- 8:24Speaker 5: So well and both but Fred and Fred is that
- 8:30Speaker 5: Bill Shakespeare?
- 8:31Speaker 4: I think my point is that our best running back
- 8:34Speaker 4: now is relegated or could be relegated to the bench.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yes, I mean that's the bottom line. That's the bottom line.
- 8:39Speaker 5: And in typical Paul Fred fashion, we find.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I'm glad I got you guys started, and we're a
- 8:46Speaker 3: happy player. Now now I can I can exit after
- 8:49Speaker 3: my nine minutes, so I shall return.
- 8:52Speaker 4: I think Julius Peppers was waiting for you.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Oh, then in that case I'll be back.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:59Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean I do agree Fred that obviously
- 9:02Speaker 5: he's the best option that the Patriots have as their
- 9:05Speaker 5: running back. And he's you know, he's a legitimate starter
- 9:08Speaker 5: on a lot of teams. He's not a guy who
- 9:11Speaker 5: just starts because he's on the Patriot.
- 9:12Speaker 4: But it hurts.
- 9:13Speaker 5: I don't think the last couple of weeks have been
- 9:15Speaker 5: his best games.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Going back to what Gerard was talking about, we were
- 9:21Speaker 4: talking before the show, and it's not meant to be critical.
- 9:26Speaker 4: I think it's meant more to be curious about some
- 9:30Speaker 4: of the things he said today or how how he
- 9:34Speaker 4: phrased things. You want to elaborate on that, And again.
- 9:39Speaker 5: There were a couple of things that kind of it's
- 9:41Speaker 5: cut me off.
- 9:41Speaker 4: We're dealing with something new and a different way of
- 9:47Speaker 4: getting messages across. And again, not to be critical, critical,
- 9:52Speaker 4: but to be curious.
- 9:53Speaker 5: So yeah, well to open, you know when you mentioned
- 9:56Speaker 5: that the Wednesday press conference is typically dominated the upcoming opponent,
- 10:01Speaker 5: and today it really wasn't. But he did open with
- 10:04Speaker 5: some comments and he said, you know, we're definitely not
- 10:06Speaker 5: sleeping on Miami, right. You know they have this, they
- 10:09Speaker 5: have that, And I was thinking to myself, you're not
- 10:13Speaker 5: sleeping on Miami, right, like wow, like this is two
- 10:16Speaker 5: one in three teams that haven't really been able to
- 10:18Speaker 5: move the ball at all.
- 10:19Speaker 4: A curious thing to say.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I wouldn't think that you would even have the
- 10:24Speaker 5: possibility of sleeping on any team right now, right, And
- 10:27Speaker 5: nor should Miami be thinking about sleeping on the Patriots, right,
- 10:30Speaker 5: they are one in three, and they earned where they are.
- 10:35Speaker 5: You know, it's not because of bad luck that they're
- 10:37Speaker 5: in the situation that they're in. So I thought that
- 10:39Speaker 5: was kind of a strange phrase, let's put it that way,
- 10:45Speaker 5: than the roster. The roster. Yeah, he was talking a
- 10:47Speaker 5: little bit about, you know, and he did address some things, saying,
- 10:50Speaker 5: this is where you know, you said it's different. These
- 10:53Speaker 5: are some of the ways that it's really different between
- 10:55Speaker 5: Belichick and Mayo, and I think Gerard is much more
- 10:59Speaker 5: will to sort of go into specifics when it comes
- 11:04Speaker 5: to what's good and bad. There's a lot of talk
- 11:08Speaker 5: about not setting the edge and that kind of stuff.
- 11:10Speaker 5: We talked about it yesterday. Yeah, he addressed it a
- 11:13Speaker 5: little bit today, talked about Kean White, and he said,
- 11:17Speaker 5: you know, there's been some problems, but you know, also
- 11:20Speaker 5: he's been one of the more productive players, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 5: early in the season. You know, he's been one of
- 11:24Speaker 5: the more productive players. But he did say, you know,
- 11:28Speaker 5: we have to do a better job, and I have
- 11:30Speaker 5: to do a better job coaching the players on the
- 11:32Speaker 5: roster to perform the way we need them to do.
- 11:35Speaker 5: I just thought so adding the phrase on the roster.
- 11:37Speaker 5: To me, it was kind of weird. Curious, curious, it's
- 11:41Speaker 5: a great way to put it. Yeah, he might have
- 11:43Speaker 5: just you know, just was a word salad and just
- 11:46Speaker 5: came out, or but he was saying, hey, I can
- 11:48Speaker 5: only do so much with what I.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Got, right. He tends to kind of it's not stream
- 11:54Speaker 4: of consciousness, but say things that are on his mind,
- 11:57Speaker 4: or things that might have been a discussion earlier that day.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Or remember the movie when Harry met Sally. I remember
- 12:03Speaker 5: the movie show so Billy Crystal, you know, just has
- 12:06Speaker 5: the meltdown.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and.
- 12:09Speaker 5: You know, so Meg Ryan goes and talks to him.
- 12:11Speaker 5: He's like, Harry, at some point, you're gonna have to
- 12:14Speaker 5: find a way to not express every single thought you
- 12:17Speaker 5: have in your head every time you have it right.
- 12:19Speaker 5: And that's kind of how I feel when talking about
- 12:22Speaker 5: what he's talking about.
- 12:23Speaker 4: When he mentions the word roster, it makes me think,
- 12:26Speaker 4: I don't know that maybe there was a discussion earlier
- 12:29Speaker 4: that day with perhaps Elliott Wolf about the roster, and
- 12:33Speaker 4: you know, these are the cards I've been dealt, and
- 12:36Speaker 4: this is what I'm trying to do with what I have.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean and I'm not telling you that with
- 12:41Speaker 5: Fred and I are definitely sort of extrapolating and putting
- 12:44Speaker 5: words into Gerard's mouth that he didn't say, right, But
- 12:46Speaker 5: I'm just wondering why he would have used that phrase.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Another thing that was curious is when he was talking
- 12:53Speaker 4: about the sustainability of the week one win.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Yeah, so that that caught a lot of people's attention
- 12:59Speaker 5: because it actually drew follow up questions to it. Andrew
- 13:04Speaker 5: Callahan from The Herald girod unsolicited said, you know, talked
- 13:08Speaker 5: about some of the games and you know, like, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 5: we had to win in Cincinnati, but we knew that
- 13:13Speaker 5: wasn't sustainable. The way we played that day wasn't sustainable.
- 13:17Speaker 4: And we've kind of said that it's a hard way
- 13:19Speaker 4: to live.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Which is which is absolutely one thing for idiots like
- 13:23Speaker 5: me to say, I don't think they're gonna win many
- 13:26Speaker 5: games scoring sixteen points, but to have the head coach
- 13:28Speaker 5: say we're not going to win like that to his
- 13:31Speaker 5: team and that was a message to his team. He
- 13:33Speaker 5: was asked about it, you know, Andrew Callahan specifically said,
- 13:37Speaker 5: what you know, what specifically do you mean about that
- 13:40Speaker 5: not being sustainable? And he said, the production, the offense,
- 13:44Speaker 5: the points. He said, you have to score more points,
- 13:46Speaker 5: and that let's say you have to score more than
- 13:48Speaker 5: twenty one points, you know the time of possession, and
- 13:51Speaker 5: even though that time of possession in that game was
- 13:53Speaker 5: strongly in the Patriots favor, he just felt like it
- 13:57Speaker 5: was sustainable. And then he said that he had he
- 13:59Speaker 5: told team that, and when Jacoby Brissett came out, he
- 14:03Speaker 5: was asked, I think Meganadolini from Wei asked, Jacoby, you know,
- 14:10Speaker 5: has Mayo talked about that with the team and he
- 14:13Speaker 5: said yes, he did mention that that wasn't you know,
- 14:17Speaker 5: we have to score more, we have to be more
- 14:18Speaker 5: productive offensively, which I thought was kind of odd. Like
- 14:21Speaker 5: I thought that was you know, you guys make fun
- 14:23Speaker 5: of me all the time, and with good reason. You're right,
- 14:25Speaker 5: because like I tend to be that fatalistic New England
- 14:29Speaker 5: sports fan that always finds trouble around the corner. That
- 14:32Speaker 5: was a great win, even for cold hearted grinch like me,
- 14:35Speaker 5: Like that was a great win. But we, yes, we
- 14:38Speaker 5: talked about it on Tuesday and Wednesday, Like, I don't
- 14:40Speaker 5: know how many games they're gonna win playing near perfect
- 14:42Speaker 5: like that, right, But I just didn't think that was
- 14:46Speaker 5: necessarily the time to say. But guys, don't get too excited.
- 14:50Speaker 5: That's not sustainable.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Is another thing to be taken or gleaned from. That
- 14:55Speaker 4: is door open, Drake May. It's your game now, Like
- 15:00Speaker 4: is he setting the stage for like if this, if
- 15:04Speaker 4: we're not productive this week, next week, we're going to
- 15:07Speaker 4: see Drake May.
- 15:09Speaker 5: And that's why he told the team after the Cincinnati's sustainable.
- 15:13Speaker 4: He's getting the point across. Our offensive production has to.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Let me ask you this, so what we can you know?
- 15:21Speaker 4: And I'm going to do what it takes.
- 15:22Speaker 5: We kind of got everybody caught up here like kind
- 15:25Speaker 5: of some of the details of the day so far,
- 15:30Speaker 5: do you think and we don't have any way of knowing,
- 15:32Speaker 5: so there's no wrong, right or wrong answer. Do you
- 15:34Speaker 5: think Gerard wants to play Drake May right now? Yes?
- 15:38Speaker 5: I do too.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I do.
- 15:41Speaker 5: I do too. I think that if it were up
- 15:43Speaker 5: to him solely up to him.
- 15:46Speaker 4: I think it is. But I think I think it
- 15:48Speaker 4: is up to him. But I think as of now,
- 15:52Speaker 4: he's deferring to the people that he's kind of put
- 15:55Speaker 4: in charge of the offense, which you know, sometimes a
- 15:58Speaker 4: good leader does. But at some point he's gonna say, Okay,
- 16:01Speaker 4: it's time I'm taking I'm taking the reins here and
- 16:05Speaker 4: we're gonna put in the kid. I think it's his call,
- 16:10Speaker 4: and I think right now he's still listening to whether
- 16:13Speaker 4: it's Alex van Pelt or Ben McAdoo or whoever else
- 16:18Speaker 4: it is. You know, I don't think it's as much
- 16:22Speaker 4: Elliott Wolf, but it could be. I don't, but I
- 16:25Speaker 4: think he's looking at the he's looking at the people
- 16:29Speaker 4: that he's put in charge of the offense for their advice,
- 16:33Speaker 4: as you know he should. That's you know, you give
- 16:35Speaker 4: someone a job and let them do their job. But
- 16:38Speaker 4: at some point he's gonna have to say enough, we're
- 16:41Speaker 4: putting in Drake May.
- 16:43Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 16:43Speaker 4: I think at that point it will be his call.
- 16:45Speaker 5: I understand what you're saying, and you know, I largely
- 16:48Speaker 5: agree with you. I do think that he wants to
- 16:52Speaker 5: play them. And that's why when you said, you know,
- 16:55Speaker 5: maybe opening your door, like at one of these weeks
- 16:58Speaker 5: is going to be the final week. I mean, I
- 17:00Speaker 5: know that sounds stupid, but like I mean, one of
- 17:02Speaker 5: these weeks when they're not productive, Yeah, you know, and
- 17:07Speaker 5: that's a good you know, you generally do a good job.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Sometimes I tease you for it, for like finding things
- 17:14Speaker 5: within a press conference, but you generally do a good
- 17:17Speaker 5: job of reading between the lines. I'm being dead serious,
- 17:20Speaker 5: and I think that you might have just hit on
- 17:23Speaker 5: something as to why he would have used that sustainability
- 17:26Speaker 5: line now exactly.
- 17:28Speaker 4: He wasn't prompted.
- 17:29Speaker 5: I'm giving you credit. You're looking at me like I'm
- 17:31Speaker 5: mocking you. I'm not mocking you, because I think you
- 17:33Speaker 5: are good at like I say this to Felgrey maths
- 17:35Speaker 5: all the time on my show. Mike especially is really good.
- 17:39Speaker 4: At making things up but.
- 17:42Speaker 5: That are not necessarily made up, but like things that
- 17:44Speaker 5: I when I listen to these press conferences, I don't
- 17:46Speaker 5: always hear the same way. And then you listen again
- 17:49Speaker 5: and you're like, you know what, I think he might
- 17:50Speaker 5: be right. I didn't think of the sustainability thing at all,
- 17:54Speaker 5: and the way you just said it, and as you
- 17:56Speaker 5: said it, I was like, hmm, I do think Gerrod
- 17:59Speaker 5: wants to play dre sooner than later. Maybe he's trying
- 18:03Speaker 5: to say, even if we win Sunday against the team
- 18:07Speaker 5: that can't get out of its own way lately, if
- 18:09Speaker 5: we don't with a fourth string quarterback. If we win
- 18:12Speaker 5: thirteen to nine, which is what I'm predicting, yep, that's
- 18:16Speaker 5: still not good.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Enough for me, not sustainable.
- 18:19Speaker 5: So I kind of like your theory, you know.
- 18:22Speaker 4: So now we're all hoping that the offense doesn't produce
- 18:24Speaker 4: so that they put in Drake may Well.
- 18:26Speaker 5: I mean, the best case scenario would be the offense
- 18:30Speaker 5: does produce. And I know, like you're being sarcastic, but
- 18:33Speaker 5: let's say that the offense goes out and puts up
- 18:35Speaker 5: thirty and now you're getting some confidence with the offense,
- 18:39Speaker 5: and then, let's face it, they're not going to score
- 18:41Speaker 5: thirty every week. Then maybe Drake may inherits a better
- 18:44Speaker 5: situation when you know when and if he actually does play.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, so there's a lot to dos theory.
- 18:54Speaker 4: I'm not sure if it's available yet, but shortly it'll be.
- 18:57Speaker 4: The full dried Mayo will be available on page So
- 19:02Speaker 4: you know, listen for yourself, make your own judgment, and
- 19:05Speaker 4: see what you think about, you know, all the things
- 19:07Speaker 4: that he had to say, because I don't think I
- 19:11Speaker 4: don't think he's you know, going into these press conferences
- 19:15Speaker 4: having not thought about what he wants to say, and
- 19:17Speaker 4: I think what he wants to say is based on
- 19:20Speaker 4: what's been happening over the last couple of days.
- 19:23Speaker 5: So you know, there's a lot that I totally agree
- 19:27Speaker 5: there's a lot there, all right.
- 19:29Speaker 4: So now we turn the page to the Miami Dolphins,
- 19:34Speaker 4: and it is amazing how you know, Tua has his detractors,
- 19:41Speaker 4: but he leaves the roster and all of a sudden
- 19:44Speaker 4: they collapse. I mean, the guy might be pretty good.
- 19:48Speaker 4: I don't know, you know.
- 19:49Speaker 5: Maybe not just anybody could have that kind of production,
- 19:52Speaker 5: kind of like Brock Purdy, right, you know, because when
- 19:54Speaker 5: Nick Mullens and CJ. Bethter play, it doesn't look like that, right,
- 19:59Speaker 5: So I would say, yeah, I don't put Tua in
- 20:02Speaker 5: the elite category by any means. He's not with Mahomes
- 20:05Speaker 5: and Josh Allen and those guys. But I think it's
- 20:10Speaker 5: a pretty unique offense and I think he runs it
- 20:12Speaker 5: pretty well. And I think that's the biggest part that's
- 20:16Speaker 5: lacking right now is there's a lot of stuff that
- 20:18Speaker 5: I think goes on. There's a lot of eye candy,
- 20:20Speaker 5: as everyone likes to call it, with the motions and
- 20:23Speaker 5: the fakes and the play actions, it's a little bit
- 20:26Speaker 5: more than just a typical straight ahead West Coast offense
- 20:30Speaker 5: like San Francisco runs and whatever. And it doesn't look
- 20:35Speaker 5: it doesn't look the same. They can't run him. Did
- 20:37Speaker 5: you watch any of them trying to run the ball?
- 20:39Speaker 5: I watching a Chan try to run the other night
- 20:43Speaker 5: was painful.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Like they couldn't get him any room at all. And
- 20:46Speaker 5: this is an explosive guy. So I think if if
- 20:50Speaker 5: Miami's offense is putting up twenty plus points in this
- 20:54Speaker 5: game and there's some serious issues on defense, because that team,
- 20:59Speaker 5: I know they have some talent. And I think I
- 21:01Speaker 5: made the comment yesterday anytime the Miami offense is on
- 21:04Speaker 5: the field, the two best players in the game are
- 21:07Speaker 5: going to be on the field, right And I believe that. Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 5: Kill and Waddle are the two best players that will
- 21:11Speaker 5: be out there for both on Sunday. Yeah, but they
- 21:15Speaker 5: haven't been able to do anything. Now maybe with a
- 21:18Speaker 5: week under his belt, is that much better this week?
- 21:21Speaker 4: And that's it to Drew Brees.
- 21:24Speaker 5: I think Tua is a pretty good player. I don't
- 21:26Speaker 5: think he's great. Yeah, I don't think he's.
- 21:28Speaker 4: But he's got the traits of Drew brees in that
- 21:30Speaker 4: he makes up for his physical stature in just knowing
- 21:35Speaker 4: where guys are, anticipating where they are being really accurate. Yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 4: I totally agree, especially with you know, balls over fifteen yards.
- 21:43Speaker 4: He's incredibly accurate and like he knows the offense like
- 21:48Speaker 4: nobody's business, and so it's a we're seeing it. It's
- 21:52Speaker 4: a huge drop off without.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Him, and he trusts what he sees. To your point,
- 21:56Speaker 5: I like you breeze comp because it is the lot
- 21:58Speaker 5: of a lot of throwing guys open. And that's why
- 22:00Speaker 5: he throws some picks because sometimes it's going to happen. Yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 5: but he's he's really good in that offense in that system,
- 22:08Speaker 5: and other guys haven't been anywhere near as productive. You've
- 22:11Speaker 5: seen it over the last couple of years with backups,
- 22:13Speaker 5: and some of them have been you know, guys like
- 22:14Speaker 5: Teddy Bridgewater, you know guys that are you know, fairly
- 22:17Speaker 5: accomplished NFL backups. You know, Jacoby Brissett played in it.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Like they just don't look. I mean, they don't look.
- 22:23Speaker 4: So you look at this game and you say, this
- 22:25Speaker 4: is a winnable game for the Patriots. The problem is
- 22:28Speaker 4: the state of the Patriots. I mean they're banged up too,
- 22:31Speaker 4: and they're not producing on offense. Uh, and they're you know,
- 22:36Speaker 4: they're banged up, not just on one side of the ball,
- 22:39Speaker 4: on both sides of the ball.
- 22:40Speaker 5: Yeah, this is normally one of those games. I say, like,
- 22:42Speaker 5: you can't lose this game. I'm not saying that because
- 22:44Speaker 5: both teams are in similar situations. Yeah, there's there's a
- 22:48Speaker 5: lot of a lot of banged up personnel on both sides.
- 22:52Speaker 5: I think at home you should probably win. But this
- 22:56Speaker 5: is not a game I'm expecting to be a If
- 22:59Speaker 5: Miami shows up to play, then I think this team
- 23:02Speaker 5: is going to be a really.
- 23:02Speaker 4: Different Obviously, the Patriots record overall over the last few
- 23:06Speaker 4: years hasn't been good, but at home, it's it's been terrible.
- 23:09Speaker 4: They you know, Jillette Stadium right now is no longer
- 23:13Speaker 4: home field advantage for the Patriots.
- 23:14Speaker 5: No, And you know you can there is something to that,
- 23:18Speaker 5: Like we talk about some of the teams that can
- 23:20Speaker 5: be tough on there, the way that they've played offense
- 23:22Speaker 5: the last few years. You know, you get a couple
- 23:24Speaker 5: of three and outs and crowd gets restless. You hear it,
- 23:27Speaker 5: You're gonna hear you're absolutely going to hear we want Drake.
- 23:31Speaker 5: Oh yeah, if it doesn't start off well offensively, and
- 23:34Speaker 5: that's a you know, mentally, that's tough. For the guys
- 23:36Speaker 5: that are.
- 23:37Speaker 4: On the field, it's tough. And yeah, you don't like
- 23:40Speaker 4: I want only the best for Jacobe Brissett.
- 23:43Speaker 5: He is such a class act. It's hard. It's hard
- 23:45Speaker 5: to not have anything but the utmost respect for him. Yah,
- 23:48Speaker 5: I'm dead serious when I say that.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Yeah, but I but he's a he's a grown up.
- 23:52Speaker 4: He knew the situation he was getting into. Uh, you know,
- 23:55Speaker 4: they just drafted a third pick. Overall, it's only a
- 23:59Speaker 4: matter of time. But I think the time is now.
- 24:03Speaker 4: You know.
- 24:03Speaker 6: That's just what I do too.
- 24:04Speaker 5: And I could understand waiting this week just because of
- 24:07Speaker 5: the situation at Center. And I like you had mentioned
- 24:10Speaker 5: that to me yesterday, Like, so what if he can't
- 24:12Speaker 5: come back? No, I just mean, let Nick Leverett get
- 24:15Speaker 5: his feet wet, you know, and sort of be comfortable,
- 24:18Speaker 5: then make the move.
- 24:19Speaker 4: YEP. I wanted to read this email on the tpx houtline.
- 24:24Speaker 4: This is from Fraser clim Yeah, fr Ser Love's listening
- 24:33Speaker 4: to the show. Whoever He's struggling to listen to everyone
- 24:37Speaker 4: these days. I know you have lived in breathed football
- 24:39Speaker 4: your whole life, and I haven't, so I would always
- 24:41Speaker 4: defer to your knowledge on football matters. But the issue
- 24:44Speaker 4: of playing Drake may seems to me to be one
- 24:47Speaker 4: of common sense, and I think you guys have lost
- 24:49Speaker 4: all connection to yours. It's a matter of what is
- 24:53Speaker 4: best for the long term future of the team and
- 24:56Speaker 4: probability of outcomes. We have an all time bad offensive
- 25:00Speaker 4: line that is not a doubt. So if we are honest,
- 25:03Speaker 4: what is the probability of the following outcomes if we
- 25:06Speaker 4: played Drake now or soon? As you guys are advocating
- 25:10Speaker 4: one very serious injury And this is Fraser saying twenty
- 25:15Speaker 4: five percent mental stop Okay.
- 25:20Speaker 5: That's wrong. Okay, So she was saying there's a one
- 25:23Speaker 5: in four chance that he will be seriously injured.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Yes, that's what he's saying.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Like to impact his career? Like which, how many serious
- 25:29Speaker 5: injuries have you seen that have impacted a career.
- 25:33Speaker 4: For a play, for a quarterback, for a player, Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 4: they miss miss a season maybe.
- 25:37Speaker 5: Yeah, that doesn't count to me, Oh it doesn't no, Okay,
- 25:40Speaker 5: Like Anthony Richardson.
- 25:42Speaker 4: Right, that's an example.
- 25:44Speaker 5: No, Joe Burrow, he got hurt, right, Joe Bundy towards
- 25:47Speaker 5: a cl right, came back the next year, was fine,
- 25:49Speaker 5: right right. I'm talking about derailed his career because of
- 25:53Speaker 5: an injury he suffered because he played too soon.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Yep.
- 25:56Speaker 5: But I'm looking for I want to know the one
- 25:58Speaker 5: out of four chance for that, so I wholeheartedly put
- 26:01Speaker 5: a check on that.
- 26:02Speaker 4: So that's his first point. Number two mental setbacks slash
- 26:05Speaker 4: loss of confidence a lah mac Jones thirty five percent.
- 26:10Speaker 5: I think that's a possibility. I don't know. I think
- 26:12Speaker 5: that sounds high to me, okay, but I that's that one.
- 26:15Speaker 5: I'm I'm with fraid gets.
- 26:16Speaker 4: By and we end up with the same record as
- 26:18Speaker 4: we would with Jacoby. I'd say thirty five percent.
- 26:21Speaker 5: I think that's possibility.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Four. He does a bit better than Jacoby and we
- 26:26Speaker 4: win five games rather than two or three five percent.
- 26:30Speaker 5: I don't know about how many wins, but I think
- 26:32Speaker 5: he'll do better than Jacoby percent because I think he's
- 26:34Speaker 5: a better player than Jaquo.
- 26:35Speaker 4: He runs the table and we make the playoffs. Zero percent.
- 26:38Speaker 5: Okay, I agree with that too.
- 26:41Speaker 4: You guys can disagree with my probabilities if you want,
- 26:43Speaker 4: but I think you would be doing so only to
- 26:45Speaker 4: justify your current point of view that Drake should play.
- 26:49Speaker 4: So the only benefit of playing Drake now is to
- 26:51Speaker 4: start his development quicker. I understand that point, But you
- 26:55Speaker 4: guys are seriously willing to take on about a sixty
- 26:58Speaker 4: percent risk that he is seriously injured or mentally damaged
- 27:01Speaker 4: in order to get that marginal benefit. I think that's nuts.
- 27:05Speaker 4: He's meant to be our quarterback for ten years, so
- 27:08Speaker 4: taking that risk in year one is crazy.
- 27:11Speaker 5: So I would just like, the only thing I would
- 27:13Speaker 5: push back on here is the injury part, like tearing
- 27:16Speaker 5: his acl to me, is not a serious impediment for
- 27:19Speaker 5: his career, like we don't want it obviously. First of all,
- 27:22Speaker 5: I don't think there's a one and four chance that
- 27:24Speaker 5: guys get hurt period, Like I just don't. I don't
- 27:27Speaker 5: think that you have to get hurt if you play
- 27:29Speaker 5: Like Corey Brissett hasn't gotten a serious injury and he's
- 27:32Speaker 5: gotten the stuffing knocked out of him every week, yep,
- 27:34Speaker 5: So you don't have to get hurt if you play, right.
- 27:37Speaker 5: But I also would just push back on the serious injury,
- 27:40Speaker 5: Like a serious injury is the Tua concussions that could
- 27:44Speaker 5: be career ending? Yeah, like that that might happen to Tua,
- 27:50Speaker 5: But I don't think it happened to Anthony Ridgardson last year.
- 27:54Speaker 5: Like the Colts that much worse off because he played
- 27:57Speaker 5: last year. If he didn't play at all last year,
- 27:58Speaker 5: do you think you'd be further along right now right
- 28:01Speaker 5: than he is? No, he got hurt, big deal. Yep,
- 28:04Speaker 5: Like it's a risk, like guys get hurt.
- 28:07Speaker 4: So Fraser ends it by saying, who cares about this year?
- 28:10Speaker 4: Let's tank There is no discernible difference between two and
- 28:13Speaker 4: fifteen and five and twelve. So let's take the two
- 28:16Speaker 4: and fifteen record, pick in the top two and stack
- 28:19Speaker 4: up with O line on the first two days. This
- 28:22Speaker 4: rebuild is going to take another two drafts in a
- 28:25Speaker 4: very good free agency market. So I understand what he's saying,
- 28:33Speaker 4: But I want the progress and the learning by playing
- 28:38Speaker 4: to start now. It's that simple. You know a lot
- 28:45Speaker 4: of people, we don't talk about it a lot, but
- 28:48Speaker 4: money comes into play here. You want to know in
- 28:52Speaker 4: two or three years if you've got the guy so
- 28:54Speaker 4: that you can make that economic decision of whether to
- 28:58Speaker 4: extend him early and get that out of the way
- 29:01Speaker 4: before he comes starts to get close to free agent
- 29:04Speaker 4: or that fourth.
- 29:05Speaker 5: All of that's I think all of that stuff factors.
- 29:07Speaker 5: And I just would say that you you know, you
- 29:09Speaker 5: wrapped up Fraser's email, so I would say to Fraser
- 29:12Speaker 5: that I think he Fraser makes a lot of really
- 29:14Speaker 5: really good points. I do. And this is where, like
- 29:18Speaker 5: I say this all the time, just because we don't
- 29:20Speaker 5: agree doesn't mean we have to be dismissed. I think
- 29:25Speaker 5: everything he said makes perfect sense. It's a it's a
- 29:28Speaker 5: really well thought out email, and it's where I think,
- 29:32Speaker 5: I think a lot of people fall right now. It's
- 29:34Speaker 5: where Mike Felger is one thousand percent in your camp
- 29:37Speaker 5: of all people, you know, the king of irrationality. That's
- 29:40Speaker 5: exactly where he thinks. I just don't think that it
- 29:44Speaker 5: has to be all or nothing. And that's that's only
- 29:47Speaker 5: where we would separate a little bit. This has nothing
- 29:50Speaker 5: to do with any thoughts of like making a playoff
- 29:53Speaker 5: run or trying to improve things. I want to find
- 29:56Speaker 5: I'm like Fred, I want to find out about the
- 29:58Speaker 5: guy a little bit this year, not next year.
- 30:01Speaker 4: What do you think about this theory as to what
- 30:04Speaker 4: Elliott Wolf and Gerrod Mayo might be thinking that our
- 30:08Speaker 4: team stinks right now, We're not a good football team.
- 30:12Speaker 5: That was another part of the press commison. So that
- 30:14Speaker 5: kind of took me about.
- 30:15Speaker 4: I don't want any of that stink on Drake May
- 30:17Speaker 4: right now.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Girodd said that, you know, we knew coming into the
- 30:19Speaker 5: season we were going to take our lumps, and maybe
- 30:20Speaker 5: we knew there wasn't going to be like it just
- 30:24Speaker 5: was kind of striking to hear me listen to a
- 30:26Speaker 5: coach kind of openly admit that he knew they weren't
- 30:28Speaker 5: going to be very good.
- 30:29Speaker 4: But let's for now disassociate Drake May from the stink.
- 30:34Speaker 4: What do you think about that?
- 30:35Speaker 5: I don't like it? Okay, yeah, I don't like it.
- 30:38Speaker 4: You know, so like when you look back on this
- 30:41Speaker 4: terrible season, Drake May wasn't part of it.
- 30:45Speaker 5: I mean, I have less admirable thoughts as to why,
- 30:53Speaker 5: which is something he doesn't play, if he doesn't play
- 30:55Speaker 5: at all, I have less admirable reasons that I would
- 30:58Speaker 5: have for the coaching staff and to sort of save themselves. Yeah,
- 31:01Speaker 5: you know, the longer they go without playing on the
- 31:03Speaker 5: less it's an indictment on them. Yeah, you know, we
- 31:06Speaker 5: have hope. We're going to dangle hope as long as
- 31:08Speaker 5: we can. Yeah, once he plays, you kind of got
- 31:11Speaker 5: to go by how he looks.
- 31:13Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, so I was just that's just something
- 31:15Speaker 4: I was. I was thinking. Those are coming in at
- 31:20Speaker 4: podcasts at Patriots dot com. You can still use web radio,
- 31:25Speaker 4: but if you the proper email now is podcasts at
- 31:29Speaker 4: Patriots dot com, I'm told. And of course we have

- 32:17Speaker 4: Let's get over to the tpx heutline where we have
- 32:19Speaker 4: some callers hanging on. We've got Ray from Washington State
- 32:24Speaker 4: calling in. What's up?
- 32:25Speaker 8: Ray?
- 32:27Speaker 9: Okay, guys, thanks for taking my call. Uh you kind
- 32:30Speaker 9: of touched on the first point.
- 32:31Speaker 4: I had.
- 32:32Speaker 9: A thirteen to six point is not gonna be enough,
- 32:35Speaker 9: I think, but your Kobe to keep his job. Well,
- 32:38Speaker 9: my question is how about a three three half time score?
- 32:42Speaker 9: Would Nate get the chance then? And my second comment
- 32:46Speaker 9: is the game against San Francisco Sunday sideline shots to
- 32:51Speaker 9: May look like a very frustrated young man. Has anybody
- 32:55Speaker 9: have any feedback to Howards locker room datis is what's
- 32:59Speaker 9: the team? And I take your comments of.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Wait, wait, who's locker room status?
- 33:06Speaker 9: May? He looked very disgruntled?
- 33:07Speaker 5: Okay, I didn't see that.
- 33:09Speaker 9: How is he doing in the locker room with the player?
- 33:12Speaker 5: Fine? Absolutely fine? Seems better. I mean he seems in
- 33:16Speaker 5: the locker room, you know, Like I just observationally, Friday
- 33:20Speaker 5: was the last time I was in the locker room.
- 33:21Speaker 5: I obviously wasn't there Sunday postgame to comment on Ray's
- 33:25Speaker 5: specific question about how he looked in the game. I
- 33:29Speaker 5: see a lot of guys interacted with him a lot.
- 33:32Speaker 5: He seems I mean, he doesn't look like he has
- 33:34Speaker 5: too many bad days. Yeah, Drake is like he's a
- 33:37Speaker 5: happy kid. I call him a kid. He's that much
- 33:40Speaker 5: younger man.
- 33:41Speaker 4: I saw him on Saturday before the game, you know, uh,
- 33:44Speaker 4: hanging out with his teammates playing cards. He seems fine.
- 33:49Speaker 10: Uh.
- 33:50Speaker 4: I want to get to something, But before that, I
- 33:51Speaker 4: want to address the first part of Ray's question about
- 33:54Speaker 4: putting may in if this low production at halftime. I
- 33:58Speaker 4: don't want to do that either, because I want him
- 34:00Speaker 4: to go in having prepared for the team for the
- 34:03Speaker 4: whole week and getting all the reps. And I assume
- 34:07Speaker 4: that won't be the case this week.
- 34:09Speaker 5: I don't think to your point. I'm with you one
- 34:11Speaker 5: hundred percent. I think that if he plays on Sunday,
- 34:15Speaker 5: the outcome will have been decided. I can't see them
- 34:18Speaker 5: putting him in a close game at hand, nothing unless
- 34:21Speaker 5: it's an injury, right, you know, and that listen, that
- 34:24Speaker 5: is strongly in play. That might be how it happens.
- 34:29Speaker 4: But the other thing that what Ray said reminded me
- 34:31Speaker 4: of another topic that's going around mostly on your show's Paul,
- 34:35Speaker 4: is the comportment of some of the other players on
- 34:38Speaker 4: the team.
- 34:39Speaker 5: I think it's I listened to Greg a little bit yesterday,
- 34:42Speaker 5: Greg Bdard, and he talked about it a little bit.
- 34:45Speaker 5: I think that we talked about it on our show Yesterdayeah,
- 34:47Speaker 5: we did. There was another one of our shows yesterday
- 34:49Speaker 5: that got repeated from two to four on another show.
- 34:52Speaker 4: But but DoD We'll got more into specifics with certain players,
- 34:55Speaker 4: Pop Douglas and Poke.
- 34:59Speaker 5: He mentioned, Yeah, the two receivers we talked about yesterday,
- 35:02Speaker 5: and I think that Godshaw was talking about Keon White
- 35:05Speaker 5: and Joshua Ushe yeah, excuse me. I think he was
- 35:11Speaker 5: talking about those guys. Greg Bdard had some very specific
- 35:15Speaker 5: plays where he broke down sort of a simple te
- 35:18Speaker 5: stunt with with y's and White and White didn't look
- 35:22Speaker 5: like you did the right thing and they ended up
- 35:24Speaker 5: colliding and easily. I think it was the first third
- 35:27Speaker 5: down that pretty easily got around the containment. I think
- 35:32Speaker 5: there's something to it. You know, you had some success,
- 35:35Speaker 5: you know, and I even think back to you might
- 35:37Speaker 5: not remember this fread, but the first year that I
- 35:40Speaker 5: think that Judon was here, he was piling up a
- 35:43Speaker 5: lot of sacks in the first half of the season,
- 35:44Speaker 5: and Kyle Van Noy, of all people, was kind of critical.
- 35:48Speaker 5: It's like, huh, I don't remember being able to run
- 35:51Speaker 5: around and freelance like that, you know, do you remember
- 35:54Speaker 5: that when you know when we were there, And so
- 35:56Speaker 5: I do wonder if maybe there's been some you know,
- 36:00Speaker 5: liberty's taken defensively and sometimes like in case of Jude On,
- 36:05Speaker 5: it's led to a lot of production. Yeah, but you know,
- 36:09Speaker 5: I'm not sure that he was a great guy in
- 36:10Speaker 5: terms of setting the edge.
- 36:11Speaker 4: I mean, AVP has been getting a lot of you know, heat,
- 36:14Speaker 4: and you know, he's the subject of a lot of talk.
- 36:17Speaker 4: But at some point, especially this week, if they don't
- 36:21Speaker 4: do well against Miami, DeMarcus Cummington's name is going to
- 36:24Speaker 4: come up again. And Girod Mayo link to the defense too,
- 36:27Speaker 4: because he's a defensive mind.
- 36:29Speaker 5: If they let Hill and Waddell get over the top, Yeah,
- 36:32Speaker 5: there's some questions on the defensive side that need to
- 36:35Speaker 5: be asked and addressed.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Yeah, And I'm I'm excited for this game in one
- 36:40Speaker 4: aspect because I think Gonzalez has been playing pretty well
- 36:44Speaker 4: in the role that he's been given so far. But
- 36:47Speaker 4: what will his role be this weekend and how well
- 36:49Speaker 4: will he do. I think this is a good test for.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Him, you know, yeah, I see, I agree with exactly
- 36:54Speaker 5: the way you said it. I think he's played pretty
- 36:56Speaker 5: well in the role that he's been asked to do.
- 36:59Speaker 5: My question would be when is he going to be
- 37:02Speaker 5: the When is he going to be asked to do that?
- 37:05Speaker 4: Right?
- 37:06Speaker 5: And if he is this week? So like, okay, you
- 37:10Speaker 5: you just trail Wattle every play and we're gonna have
- 37:13Speaker 5: Jonathan Jones and help on Tyreek Hill. Right, that's generally
- 37:16Speaker 5: because Jonathan Jones has been pretty effective with Tyreek Hill.
- 37:20Speaker 5: You know, He's not always gotten them all by himself. Yeah,
- 37:24Speaker 5: but he's been pretty good with Tyreek Hill, even going
- 37:26Speaker 5: back to Kansas City, So that would make sense that
- 37:29Speaker 5: they continue to do that that way. You know. So
- 37:32Speaker 5: we're going to play more man coverage this week? Can
- 37:35Speaker 5: you not do that? Because Tyler Huntley likes to run?
- 37:38Speaker 5: Do you not want to be always in man and
- 37:40Speaker 5: give him some escape routes? Especially with some of the
- 37:43Speaker 5: problems that you've had containing quarterbacks in the pocket. I
- 37:46Speaker 5: think there's there's different ways to go, different avenues.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Let's get back to the TPX Hutline Todd's in North Carolina.
- 37:53Speaker 11: Hey Todd, Hey guy's how are you doing. I was
- 37:57Speaker 11: listening that, you know, flights to us bad and he
- 38:01Speaker 11: likes other guys balls and a lot of time they
- 38:03Speaker 11: involved here, whereas you know, I think it was Brady's
- 38:05Speaker 11: and again he did give Brady a kid. So I
- 38:08Speaker 11: know you're all waiting for the QB to get in there,
- 38:10Speaker 11: But what can we do to help him if he
- 38:12Speaker 11: gets in there? Is there anything we can do like
- 38:14Speaker 11: move the parking around or do something that these guys
- 38:17Speaker 11: could block make it easier to pass block, or is
- 38:20Speaker 11: he's just gonna have to well because lump like Jacoby's been.
- 38:23Speaker 4: I mean, it's a good question, Todd, you know, like,
- 38:25Speaker 4: what can you do to help Drake May? You know,
- 38:29Speaker 4: you know, and I know what we're all thinking, What
- 38:31Speaker 4: can we do to help Drake May? Considering the state
- 38:33Speaker 4: of the offensive line, I'm not sure that they're not
- 38:36Speaker 4: already doing that with Jacoby Prisett, but he's just not
- 38:38Speaker 4: taking advantage of it. Of course, the first thing is
- 38:41Speaker 4: you can do Max protect. You can bring in an
- 38:43Speaker 4: extra alignment, which they do. You can have plays that
- 38:46Speaker 4: get the ball out of the quarterback's hands quickly, which
- 38:49Speaker 4: I think they're trying to do, but Jacoby maybe just
- 38:52Speaker 4: doesn't do it.
- 38:53Speaker 5: I think they started the game doing it, and they
- 38:55Speaker 5: had like the little sprint out to the right. It's
- 38:57Speaker 5: just it's hard when that's This is what I would
- 39:00Speaker 5: sort of talking about, Like I think, because there's no
- 39:04Speaker 5: threat to get over the top, you're able to just
- 39:06Speaker 5: let those passes be completed and tackled, you know. And
- 39:10Speaker 5: if it's third and four, you know, maybe some of
- 39:12Speaker 5: those are resulting in first downs, but if it's third
- 39:14Speaker 5: and ten, for the most part, they're not. And you
- 39:18Speaker 5: can only get it out so fast if it's really
- 39:22Speaker 5: a manageable situation. I think that there's been too many
- 39:25Speaker 5: long yarded situations and they're not built to convert those. Yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 5: but I agree with everything you said. You get you know,
- 39:30Speaker 5: there's definite things that they did in terms of chipping
- 39:33Speaker 5: and you know, keeping an extra tight end in even
- 39:36Speaker 5: they just have to play better, you.
- 39:38Speaker 4: Know, and listen. The thing about Drake may is we've
- 39:42Speaker 4: seen it already in pre season and we certainly saw
- 39:44Speaker 4: it from the tape in North Carolina. He's not afraid
- 39:48Speaker 4: to run and like there'll be times where he ran.
- 39:51Speaker 5: When he played mop up against the Jets, he ran
- 39:53Speaker 5: a couple of times.
- 39:53Speaker 4: You know, there'll be times where everything's covered, but there's
- 39:57Speaker 4: some green pastures and he's gonna run for fifteen yards.
- 40:01Speaker 4: And if you're starting at the thirty, now you're at midfield,
- 40:04Speaker 4: you know.
- 40:05Speaker 5: So don't do the math. Yeah, no, I agree, and more,
- 40:10Speaker 5: I think more importantly, or you know, hopefully some of
- 40:14Speaker 5: those I see greener pastures. I'm going to extend a
- 40:16Speaker 5: play and then hit one yep, you know, and be
- 40:18Speaker 5: able to get something. You know that's wasn't necessarily dialed up,
- 40:22Speaker 5: wasn't the way we drew it up. But all of
- 40:24Speaker 5: a sudden we get a fifty yard chunk play. Because
- 40:27Speaker 5: I talked about yesterday. I just don't think they're good
- 40:29Speaker 5: enough to put together a lot of double digit play drives.
- 40:32Speaker 5: But anybody can hit one or two big plays and
- 40:36Speaker 5: put some points on the board that way.
- 40:37Speaker 4: And if i'm you know, AVP and I'm coaching up Drake,
- 40:41Speaker 4: I'm showing him tape of when, not when Tom Brady
- 40:45Speaker 4: completed passes, I'm showing him tape to when he threw
- 40:47Speaker 4: it away and said this play is done. I'm getting
- 40:51Speaker 4: rid of the ball because that's self preservation and that's fine.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Live to play another play. Don't try to be the
- 40:57Speaker 4: hero all the time. No one, you know, to call
- 41:02Speaker 4: it quits.
- 41:03Speaker 5: Uh.
- 41:03Speaker 4: No one did that better than Brady. Sometimes he did
- 41:06Speaker 4: it out of anger because people just didn't do that.
- 41:08Speaker 5: It is a little different too, because Brady could never
- 41:10Speaker 5: have the threat of making a play with his legs
- 41:13Speaker 5: and this guy does.
- 41:15Speaker 4: But you know, when things are closing in, don't you know,
- 41:18Speaker 4: don't try to be the hero and get the ball,
- 41:20Speaker 4: knock loose and all that stuff, because turnovers are what's
- 41:23Speaker 4: going to kill you. Uh. Dennis is in Hawaii. What's up, Dennis?
- 41:31Speaker 5: Hey, surfs up?
- 41:40Speaker 2: Well, I just wanted to say one thing. You know,
- 41:43Speaker 2: I've been watching, I've been listening to you guys. I've
- 41:47Speaker 2: been watching the game, and I just feel like like,
- 41:53Speaker 2: because of this collaboration between all the coaches and everything else,
- 41:58Speaker 2: I don't really think Gerrod is doing what he should
- 42:02Speaker 2: be doing because I really believe that Drake may just
- 42:07Speaker 2: be played. And you know, we only started talking about this.
- 42:13Speaker 2: I've been a fan for forty nine years. We've only
- 42:17Speaker 2: started talking about this about because of mac Jones because
- 42:23Speaker 2: of what people said that happened to mac Jones and
- 42:27Speaker 2: all that, and we're not Green Bay, and I think
- 42:32Speaker 2: we need to just go ahead and see what Drake
- 42:36Speaker 2: can do, okay, because he's way better than Pressett. Yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 2: and Girod said from the beginning it was a competition,
- 42:45Speaker 2: but then he took that away because it's a competition
- 42:48Speaker 2: and Drake did better than Pristte, but then, oh, we're
- 42:53Speaker 2: not going to go with him. Yes, So I don't
- 42:56Speaker 2: think Drake, I don't think Male is doing the right
- 43:00Speaker 2: thing for the team.
- 43:01Speaker 4: Okay, Like I said, go ahead, Dennis.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I'm saying that. You know, I've been a fan before
- 43:11Speaker 2: Tom Brady, so I know what it's like to lose.
- 43:16Speaker 2: I know what it's like to not win dings and
- 43:19Speaker 2: things like that. But I think we need to get
- 43:24Speaker 2: to the place of just seeing what Drake can do,
- 43:27Speaker 2: and I'll take the risk.
- 43:29Speaker 5: Yeahs, I mean that's kind of where I fall with,
- 43:32Speaker 5: you know, closer to Dennis than Frasier. Again, I think
- 43:36Speaker 5: both lines of thought can have valid points. I don't
- 43:40Speaker 5: I don't think either one of them is wrong. If
- 43:42Speaker 5: you decide you want to be more patient, I don't
- 43:44Speaker 5: think that's wrong. I just feel like you're it's a
- 43:47Speaker 5: wasted opportunity. And I and I think it's it's so
- 43:50Speaker 5: easy to say the Green Bay stuff when you have
- 43:54Speaker 5: farvarand Rogers playing still at a high level.
- 43:59Speaker 4: I believe that Gerard Mayo hired some people to be
- 44:04Speaker 4: in charge of the offense, and he's letting them do
- 44:07Speaker 4: their job. But at some point he's going to say enough.
- 44:12Speaker 4: I know that you don't think he's quite ready. If
- 44:15Speaker 4: that's what they're saying, I don't know. But whatever the
- 44:18Speaker 4: reason is that they're telling him it's not time for
- 44:21Speaker 4: may he just says, I, I'm taking this engine out
- 44:25Speaker 4: of your hands.
- 44:25Speaker 5: This Saul has to operate out of the premise that
- 44:28Speaker 5: they think that he is progressing in practicing and you know,
- 44:32Speaker 5: ready to go.
- 44:33Speaker 4: And listen if if Gerard Mayo is smart, he's sitting
- 44:36Speaker 4: in on some of these meetings and he's listening himself
- 44:39Speaker 4: and so that he can make his own opinion. But
- 44:44Speaker 4: I believe ultimately it is Gerard Mayo's call. Dennis is right.
- 44:50Speaker 4: You know, he's got to be the person and he's
- 44:52Speaker 4: got to do what's right for the team. And you know,
- 44:56Speaker 4: Paul and I believe what's right for the team right
- 44:58Speaker 4: now is to play May and we'll see eventually if
- 45:02Speaker 4: Jerrod agrees with that. But as we say that, you
- 45:06Speaker 4: know what's right for the team right now is to
- 45:08Speaker 4: turn to Mike do So, who just came from the
- 45:11Speaker 4: locker A little smell, a little bit like ben Gette.
- 45:24Speaker 5: Back.
- 45:25Speaker 4: All right, right, So tell us the mood in the
- 45:28Speaker 4: talk of the locker room.
- 45:29Speaker 3: I would say the biggest mood was waiting for Nick
- 45:31Speaker 3: Leverett to come to his locker. That was the initial mood.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Every center of attention, the center of attention, perfect, everyone's
- 45:38Speaker 3: standing around his locker and.
- 45:39Speaker 5: It's got to go back and update his notebook. After
- 45:41Speaker 5: that one.
- 45:43Speaker 3: It's good.
- 45:43Speaker 6: I'm want to steal that one.
- 45:45Speaker 3: So just you know, little conversations going around, Von Godshaw,
- 45:49Speaker 3: Christian Gonzalez, remonders Stevenson, little scrums here and there, but
- 45:53Speaker 3: you know, same kind of message we've been here and
- 45:55Speaker 3: turn the page and you know, we believe in the
- 45:57Speaker 3: guys in the room, and you know we got to
- 45:58Speaker 3: get it down. We got to eliminate them mistakes, uh,
- 46:01Speaker 3: that kind of thing. But you know, next man up,
- 46:03Speaker 3: I mean you're hearing a lot of these cliche phrases
- 46:05Speaker 3: for you know, a team that, let's face it, they've uh,
- 46:07Speaker 3: they've lost a few games, and.
- 46:09Speaker 5: They've lost some games and they've lost some personnel. Yeah,
- 46:11Speaker 5: you know, it's not it's not an easy situation.
- 46:13Speaker 6: They're reeling a little bit.
- 46:14Speaker 3: But uh but Nick Leverett, you know, he's got some experience,
- 46:17Speaker 3: so hopefully he's able to hold the fort.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Yeah, was one Drake May available? Yeah he was there.
- 46:24Speaker 3: He was you know, not no uh no major scrums,
- 46:26Speaker 3: but yeah, he's always in there. You know, it's just
- 46:28Speaker 3: the difference to the locker room this year, whereas I mean,
- 46:30Speaker 3: I think I went my whole first year without ever
- 46:31Speaker 3: actually seeing Tom Brady ever in his locker and now
- 46:34Speaker 3: it's it's pretty consistent. You see Drake and Jacobe there
- 46:37Speaker 3: and and pretty much the whole team. They're all getting
- 46:38Speaker 3: ready for practice.
- 46:39Speaker 5: So I had mentioned Mike that, you know, in my
- 46:41Speaker 5: you know, I'm not i'd say maybe one out of
- 46:43Speaker 5: the three open locker rooms I've been in so far,
- 46:46Speaker 5: whereas you're at all of them, do you feel like
- 46:51Speaker 5: Drake May is always very positive and seems like he's
- 46:55Speaker 5: chipper and interacting with his teammates because in my ears
- 47:00Speaker 5: he has been like I see a lot of interaction
- 47:02Speaker 5: with his teammates and a lot of joking, a lot
- 47:05Speaker 5: of laughing.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he seems I mean, he seems like it. I
- 47:07Speaker 3: wouldn't say anything really stood out to me today. He
- 47:09Speaker 3: was just kind of, you know, getting in his towel,
- 47:11Speaker 3: taking a shower, coming back out, getting ready.
- 47:14Speaker 5: Someone had brought up that that he looked like he
- 47:16Speaker 5: was upset on the sideline in the game and was
- 47:19Speaker 5: wondering about his place in the locker room. Oh, and
- 47:21Speaker 5: I said, I haven't really seen it.
- 47:22Speaker 6: No, I haven't. I haven't seen any of that.
- 47:24Speaker 3: And no vibe from him in the locker room that
- 47:26Speaker 3: was you know, those bad seem like, you know, same old,
- 47:29Speaker 3: same old Drake. They're all just very approachable now, which
- 47:32Speaker 3: is just the biggest departure I think for me. It
- 47:35Speaker 3: was always you know, rookies were off limits and and
- 47:39Speaker 3: the locker room was always very sparse anyway.
- 47:41Speaker 5: So now it's all about that time, you know that, right?
- 47:43Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it's just one hundred. The way the locker
- 47:46Speaker 5: room is right now is the way the locker room
- 47:48Speaker 5: was for ten years. It's great, Like it's not necessarily Now,
- 47:52Speaker 5: some of it is some of it is these guys
- 47:54Speaker 5: feel more comfortable speaking to the media without necessarily sure
- 47:58Speaker 5: getting deal with repercussionable. But I'm talking about the amount
- 48:01Speaker 5: of players in the locker room. This is how it
- 48:03Speaker 5: always used to be. When the locker room was open
- 48:05Speaker 5: before practice earlier in the day, you got a chance
- 48:09Speaker 5: to see and talk to a good ninety percent of
- 48:13Speaker 5: the roster. And then they changed it and no one
- 48:17Speaker 5: was ever in the locker room. Yeah, like it wasn't
- 48:18Speaker 5: necessarily like an edict stay out of the locker room,
- 48:22Speaker 5: don't talk to that.
- 48:22Speaker 4: What about some of the offensive weapons, namely the wide receivers.
- 48:27Speaker 4: Were they out there?
- 48:28Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 48:28Speaker 6: They were there, you know.
- 48:29Speaker 3: I I saw jaylen Polk doing a little thing with
- 48:31Speaker 3: Andrew Callahan. He was, you know, doing some fun karaoke
- 48:35Speaker 3: questions with him. But yeah, they're all there, I mean everybody.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Now you see just a lot of these little side
- 48:40Speaker 3: conversations where you know, someone like Phil Perry will you know,
- 48:43Speaker 3: just kind of sidle up next to Jacobe and you know,
- 48:46Speaker 3: have an extended conversation with him, and our own Evan
- 48:49Speaker 3: Lazarre was you know, talking to Uce a little bit
- 48:51Speaker 3: in there, so you see a lot more of those
- 48:53Speaker 3: smaller conversations going on. And I mean I just I
- 48:55Speaker 3: caught it as I was coming out Andrew briefly talked
- 48:58Speaker 3: to Viderian Lowe, who said, you no, like he's going
- 49:00Speaker 3: to give it a go today. I mean, he looked
- 49:02Speaker 3: like he was getting ready to go out, had a
- 49:03Speaker 3: big knee brace on. So I'm not sure that is
- 49:06Speaker 3: an arrow pointing towards he might play, but it might
- 49:08Speaker 3: be a little bit of progress for Darien low which
- 49:10Speaker 3: would be just at least to get some depth back,
- 49:13Speaker 3: and especially if that left.
- 49:14Speaker 4: That was the locker room DJ.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Oh, that's you know, I haven't really noticed one. That's
- 49:19Speaker 3: a good question. It used to be Brandon Bolden. There's
- 49:20Speaker 3: always somebody with like there's not really a lot of
- 49:23Speaker 3: a lot of music. That's a great question. Fred I
- 49:25Speaker 3: haven't even was excellent at he liked but he liked
- 49:30Speaker 3: all my music. Yeah, he was old school. Yeah, I think,
- 49:34Speaker 3: you know, it's always kind of down hear the linebacker area,
- 49:37Speaker 3: and I think key On White might have the ox
- 49:40Speaker 3: sometimes I'm not sure who's going to take it from
- 49:41Speaker 3: ke On White.
- 49:42Speaker 4: I know he's the Friday funny guy.
- 49:44Speaker 5: Yeah, Bar bar So.
- 49:47Speaker 4: What does that mean.
- 49:48Speaker 3: I guess it's so Barmore has to come up with
- 49:50Speaker 3: some video clips every Friday. That that kind of loosened
- 49:53Speaker 3: the mood up a little bit. And uh, I don't know.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Reading some of the report the articles over the weekend,
- 49:57Speaker 3: I guess he hasn't been doing that great of a
- 49:58Speaker 3: chop on it so far. Some of the guys, we
- 50:01Speaker 3: needed to be more funny.
- 50:02Speaker 6: Yeah, it's hard.
- 50:03Speaker 3: I mean, how do you how do you please? What's
- 50:05Speaker 3: seventy seven?
- 50:06Speaker 4: Play is enlists that helped, and then they could help
- 50:12Speaker 4: him do that.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Get sailor on that shot, you know, dig up old
- 50:14Speaker 3: pictures of teammates.
- 50:16Speaker 4: So if you're listening, Christian, you know we're here.
- 50:19Speaker 3: To help put some content for you, make it snappy
- 50:23Speaker 3: and funny. So hopefully he improves. You know, you just
- 50:25Speaker 3: got to get better every week.
- 50:27Speaker 5: I've got to find that to be funny.
- 50:28Speaker 4: Find the funny, all right, anything else funny, It needs
- 50:31Speaker 4: to be funny.
- 50:32Speaker 3: Looked like Marty Maphu was getting ready to go out there.
- 50:35Speaker 3: We know, you know, Jiro kind of hinted at that,
- 50:37Speaker 3: so was you know, I'm happy for him. We used
- 50:39Speaker 3: to joke during training camp it was like depressed Marty
- 50:41Speaker 3: Map who, like you, kind of trudge out halfway through practice.
- 50:44Speaker 3: So excited for him to get back out there today
- 50:46Speaker 3: and be good.
- 50:47Speaker 4: I hope that's an easy transition. And you know what
- 50:51Speaker 4: else is easy? Mike, what's up? Bud Light?
- 50:53Speaker 12: It is?
- 50:54Speaker 4: You know, it's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy.
- 50:57Speaker 4: Bud Light, the official beer sponsor of the New England

- 51:42Speaker 4: biggest one.
- 51:43Speaker 3: How long you got it?
- 51:45Speaker 4: I probably had it for eight years.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Yeah that's quick.
- 51:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:49Speaker 5: I know, stuff's not supposed to last as long as
- 51:51Speaker 5: it likes.
- 51:51Speaker 4: It just won't power on anymore. I mean it, it's
- 51:55Speaker 4: just dead.
- 51:55Speaker 3: When I worked at Sony, I used the Sony employee discount.
- 51:58Speaker 3: This is like two thousand and eight. I bought a
- 51:59Speaker 3: while forty two inch.
- 52:01Speaker 10: Uh.
- 52:01Speaker 3: It probably fifteen hundred bucks at the time, and it's
- 52:04Speaker 3: still going. So I guess back then they things lasted
- 52:07Speaker 3: the Yeah.
- 52:07Speaker 4: This is a Visio, which are pretty good. It's a
- 52:10Speaker 4: fifty five inch. Yeah, so now I gotta buy any
- 52:13Speaker 4: but you can get them oh yeah, oh yeah, you

- 54:34Speaker 13: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx Where
- 54:38Speaker 13: now me It's next for residential delivery only.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Oh hello, good morning, good afternoon. Friends.
- 54:46Speaker 14: Look excited to get back on the practice field and
- 54:49Speaker 14: go out there and compete and get ready to play
- 54:51Speaker 14: against a good football team. Don't want to sleep on
- 54:54Speaker 14: these guys. I know they have some struggles and things
- 54:56Speaker 14: like that, but this is still a very good football
- 54:58Speaker 14: team with weapons across the board offensively, defensively, and also
- 55:02Speaker 14: a special team. So, like I said, excited, I think
- 55:05Speaker 14: the guys, you know, they came in today. You know,
- 55:06Speaker 14: we changed the page. We're moving forward. We understand what
- 55:10Speaker 14: we have to do to win this game. And just
- 55:11Speaker 14: like every week, we have those targets out there. We
- 55:13Speaker 14: just have to go out there and execute and hit
- 55:15Speaker 14: those targets. And that's what we fully anticipate. I know
- 55:18Speaker 14: a lot of you guys are wondering about Dave Andrews,
- 55:20Speaker 14: so you know it's already out there at this point.
- 55:24Speaker 14: It's going to require surgery and he will probably go
- 55:27Speaker 14: on IR and be done for the season. Uh, fire away,
- 55:33Speaker 14: I'll think out to you guys.
- 55:35Speaker 4: It's tough.
- 55:36Speaker 14: You know, one thing about Dave, you know the first
- 55:38Speaker 14: word I would say, it's just toughness. You know, he's
- 55:40Speaker 14: a guy who he's been a captain here, he has
- 55:43Speaker 14: great leadership ability, he's tough, he's able to communicate across
- 55:46Speaker 14: the front. And it's definitely a huge loss.
- 55:48Speaker 9: You know.
- 55:48Speaker 14: With that being said, we got to you know, next
- 55:50Speaker 14: man up, next man up. And I know that sounds
- 55:52Speaker 14: very cliche, but that's the mentality. Fully expect him to
- 55:55Speaker 14: still be around the building and you know, maybe he'll
- 55:58Speaker 14: be a future coach at some point in time, but
- 56:00Speaker 14: we'll see.
- 56:02Speaker 5: That's exactly what's your pee.
- 56:06Speaker 14: I thought Nick did a decent job stepping in there
- 56:09Speaker 14: at this past game, and you know now that he'll
- 56:11Speaker 14: get more reps during practice, you expect them to continue
- 56:13Speaker 14: to get better every single day, and so that's our expectation.
- 56:17Speaker 13: You mentioned earlier this week that you and Ellie were
- 56:19Speaker 13: going to meet talk about seven alignment and stuff people
- 56:22Speaker 13: that were out there and talk about that.
- 56:24Speaker 8: Any updates of that about PUST we bring you somebody
- 56:26Speaker 8: in not.
- 56:28Speaker 14: A this not at this current time, and we talked
- 56:30Speaker 14: about the The question here was about the veteran offensive
- 56:33Speaker 14: lineman that we're out there and so we're not we're
- 56:36Speaker 14: not on that at this current time.
- 56:38Speaker 5: Is the position of center at this offense as far as.
- 56:41Speaker 14: Being kind of the one in charge of it's very important,
- 56:43Speaker 14: you know, I always say, you know, you know, you
- 56:45Speaker 14: want to see the same picture, and it starts with
- 56:47Speaker 14: the center, and it starts with the quarterback and the
- 56:50Speaker 14: center and the quarterback. I would say, so it's It's
- 56:51Speaker 14: definitely important as far as being on the same page
- 56:54Speaker 14: I D and the mic points and all those stuff. So,
- 56:56Speaker 14: you know, with that being said, you know Nick, you
- 56:58Speaker 14: know he can do it. He's proves that he can
- 57:00Speaker 14: do it, and hopefully he continues to get better.
- 57:02Speaker 5: Understanding to the offense, how does his injury affect the player?
- 57:06Speaker 14: For Drake, I would say those are those are independent
- 57:10Speaker 14: of each other. You know, you always want to have
- 57:14Speaker 14: a veteran center in there. But with that said that,
- 57:16Speaker 14: they don't, they don't tie in together.
- 57:19Speaker 15: How do you let uh, how do you not let
- 57:22Speaker 15: a woe is Me attitude take hold when you see
- 57:24Speaker 15: the injury starting to affect the key guys.
- 57:27Speaker 14: For us, it's about mental toughness, it's about mental agility,
- 57:30Speaker 14: and we won't be rigid in our thought and we're
- 57:32Speaker 14: going to try to put the best team out there.
- 57:33Speaker 14: I'm not really a big woe as me or or
- 57:35Speaker 14: anything like that. We knew going into the season we
- 57:37Speaker 14: would take our lumps, and even after the first game
- 57:40Speaker 14: when we beat Cincinnati, we understood that this is unsustainable
- 57:43Speaker 14: as far as winning that way. With that being said,
- 57:46Speaker 14: there have been things that we've done well, especially after
- 57:49Speaker 14: the first two games, you know, we don't you know,
- 57:51Speaker 14: those were competitive games. The third one wasn't so competitive.
- 57:54Speaker 14: In this past one, you know, we still had an
- 57:56Speaker 14: opportunity as bad as we played, And I think it
- 57:58Speaker 14: still comes down to execution.
- 58:01Speaker 15: Bro, look at your cson now four games through.
- 58:04Speaker 3: Are you not playing Drake because you're concerned.
- 58:06Speaker 16: He's gonna get hurt?
- 58:08Speaker 14: I'm not really thinking about that. Look, Jacoby is our starter.
- 58:10Speaker 14: He's our starting quarterback this week, and I think Jacoby
- 58:12Speaker 14: has showed a lot of toughtons out there. You know,
- 58:15Speaker 14: going back, even looking at the film, there are there
- 58:18Speaker 14: are times where you know an average guy would not
- 58:21Speaker 14: be able to get back up, and I think he's
- 58:22Speaker 14: he's done a good job with that.
- 58:24Speaker 13: All considered, Giving Antonio Gibson start this weekend, given Rimandre's following.
- 58:29Speaker 14: Issues, that's definitely, uh, that's definitely under consideration. And I've
- 58:33Speaker 14: had multiple conversations with Ramandre. But look, we can't preach
- 58:38Speaker 14: that ball security is job security and still have him
- 58:42Speaker 14: out there the majority of the time. So I think
- 58:45Speaker 14: it sends a stronger message to the players that there
- 58:47Speaker 14: are certain things that we just can't do to win,
- 58:51Speaker 14: especially with the team that we have today point of that, Weda.
- 58:55Speaker 5: So are you at the same point.
- 58:58Speaker 3: Yeah, Keon just on the first couple of third downs there,
- 59:03Speaker 3: he doesn't always.
- 59:04Speaker 5: Play there, That's right, he doesn't.
- 59:06Speaker 14: Look one thing I would say about Keon and and
- 59:07Speaker 14: once again, if it's I mean, if it was something
- 59:10Speaker 14: that was happening on a week to week basis, like
- 59:12Speaker 14: the fumbling with Romandre, that's a little bit different with Kon.
- 59:16Speaker 14: And I would say as far as the edge is concerned,
- 59:18Speaker 14: it's it's not just one person, it's it's been different
- 59:21Speaker 14: people every single week. Look, if you were to take
- 59:23Speaker 14: a snapshot, and I think it's important to remember that
- 59:26Speaker 14: we are still early in the season. But Keon has
- 59:28Speaker 14: been one of our most impactful players and we look
- 59:31Speaker 14: forward to his continued growth. But again, it comes down
- 59:33Speaker 14: to execution, It comes down to discipline, It comes down
- 59:36Speaker 14: to doing what's right for the team and not for
- 59:38Speaker 14: the individual. And I would say, you know, when you
- 59:40Speaker 14: go back and look at some of those plays, you
- 59:42Speaker 14: know you think, look, we're not good on third down.
- 59:44Speaker 14: Why It's not because we're not covering guys. It's because
- 59:46Speaker 14: we're giving the quarterback a chance to get outside the
- 59:48Speaker 14: pocket and I think we just need to play better
- 59:50Speaker 14: as a team and not as individuals for us to
- 59:53Speaker 14: have a good chance at winning games.
- 59:54Speaker 5: Does that say, rise, you have to rub the lack
- 59:56Speaker 5: of execution maybe on the defensive side of the ball
- 59:59Speaker 5: where you're coming from what you've seen so far, especially
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: in the last couple of games as a team.
- 1:00:04Speaker 14: And look, I take one hundred percent accountability for that,
- 1:00:07Speaker 14: Like it's my job to get these guys on the
- 1:00:09Speaker 14: roster ready to go out there and play at a
- 1:00:11Speaker 14: high level, and the last couple of weeks we just
- 1:00:13Speaker 14: have not done that.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: So I'll take that one. And now great moments in history.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: We're chomping at the bit getting ready for the season.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: Is it champing or chomping at the bit?
- 1:00:30Speaker 12: Eric?
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: Chumping? That's a good question, Fred, I've always heard as chomping,
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: but it's spelled champing, So I don't know.
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: I really don't know which one is accurate.
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: I think I did not know that.
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: Is it butt naked or buck naked?
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: I've always it's a good one. I think I'm looking
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: at you with a stare because.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: That's a great one. I think it's a bottled isn't
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: it buck naked?
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: Naked, isn't it?
- 1:00:57Speaker 10: So?
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: Who's a buck naked? As an a tear is naked
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: and you're like a buck?
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: Make more sense?
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: It would?
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: This is this is a whole topic.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: I have it right now there.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: This is a whole topic on Miriam Webster dot com.
- 1:01:10Speaker 10: Uh.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: While both bucknaked and butt naked are used to describe
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: someone who is fully nude, buck naked is.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: The older of the pair buck naked, fuck naked. But
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: what about the champion and the chopping?
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: That's another great moment?
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered eight five five

- 1:01:51Speaker 4: you do web radio at patriots dot com, we'll get
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: them as well. So don't have no fear we're gonna
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: get your emails. But let's get to some of the
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: calls and emails. We'll go to Mike in Puerto Rico.
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: What's up Mike.
- 1:02:06Speaker 17: Doing?
- 1:02:07Speaker 10: Well, how are you guys doing.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: I didn't ask, but okay, great, well you said what's up?
- 1:02:13Speaker 10: So just wanted to say I was doing well. Okay,
- 1:02:15Speaker 10: I have to say I am super I was super
- 1:02:18Speaker 10: excited and super bummed to hear that you're in Campbell
- 1:02:20Speaker 10: because that's and that steakhouse is literally down the street
- 1:02:23Speaker 10: from where I live. Oh, admitted to that to the
- 1:02:26Speaker 10: Illuminati Dinner.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: Yes, I'm sorry I didn't think of you, but how
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: would I have known? No, have you been to the steakhouse?
- 1:02:38Speaker 10: Steak I'm not a big steakhouse guy, but there used
- 1:02:42Speaker 10: to be an LB steakhouse there and I remember going
- 1:02:45Speaker 10: there once with like four people and the bill ended
- 1:02:48Speaker 10: up being like twelve hundred dollars.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Well, your neck of the woods man, everything is expensive,
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: and you know stric Valley. This is South Bay.
- 1:02:57Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, so wanting to raise to Puerto Rico. But
- 1:03:01Speaker 10: I've been in the South Bay for like ten twelve
- 1:03:04Speaker 10: years now. So I went to the twenty sixteen game,
- 1:03:08Speaker 10: and then I went to the game on Sunday as well.
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: Yeah, by the way, Levi Stadium, you know, we were
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: there in sixteen. I think it's a nice stadium. I
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: mean it's very I mean, it's very smartly laid out.
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: The press box is excellent. You can you know, it's
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: very nice. It's clean, well kept, so.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: From a technological standpoint, it should be. Yeah.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: Right, it's a little above the rest, right, but I'm
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: just you know, I'm sure you know the club.
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: So it's funny. Zoe yeah called it a dump.
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: Mike Reese strongly pushed back and is in your camp. Yeah,
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: said it's really nice place to watch a game, and
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: from a press box standpoint, very excessive.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: I think Zoe was just commenting on the outer facact
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: of the stadium.
- 1:04:01Speaker 12: You know.
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: With Zoe too, is all about tradition. So we got
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: to be in like Candlestick with like you know, a
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: mess and you got to leave the press box and
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: walk down the stands. As Mike Reeves talked about when
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: it was when he brought this up, like because that's
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: the way it was in the eighties. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Joe Montana playing in this place, it's like uniform football.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: It's like he's in the room.
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: No, but I mean it, he called it a dump.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: I was like, it's like brand new.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: I just hope the internet worked well.
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: Like that's what I said. Like the Internet at that place.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: From a technology standpoint, you can't possibly screw that.
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: Up and dial up.
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: I think they did a good job with this stadium anyway,
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: go ahead, So fun fact.
- 1:04:46Speaker 10: Do you know that that stadium, the design of it
- 1:04:50Speaker 10: was originally meant to replace Candlestick, So the exact same design.
- 1:04:55Speaker 10: That's why it's got that weird wall on one side
- 1:04:57Speaker 10: of the stadium. Yeah, that was the side that was
- 1:05:01Speaker 10: supposed to be to the mountain and Candlestick.
- 1:05:03Speaker 16: And then when they couldn't.
- 1:05:05Speaker 10: Get it approved and decided to move it them to
- 1:05:07Speaker 10: Santa Clara, they didn't want to pay for the whole
- 1:05:10Speaker 10: redesign of the stadium, so they used the exact same design.
- 1:05:13Speaker 10: That's why the side is so weird.
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: Okay, a little trivia there.
- 1:05:19Speaker 10: So I never thought about putting together a bill of
- 1:05:25Speaker 10: rights for fans.
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: Have we ever thought of putting about on a bill
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: of rights for fans? Sounds like you're want to start
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: a union.
- 1:05:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: I'm not a big fan of telling people how they
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: should think. Yeah, I have enough of that and that's
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: not what we should think.
- 1:05:41Speaker 10: But what are our rights? Because right now I went
- 1:05:44Speaker 10: to this game that was down the street, even with that,
- 1:05:47Speaker 10: it cost me about five hundred dollars fall together. I've
- 1:05:50Speaker 10: already made arrangements to go to the Tennessee game and
- 1:05:54Speaker 10: to go to the Chicago game and all that together,
- 1:05:58Speaker 10: ticket to travel, airfare and stuff like that. Where in
- 1:06:02Speaker 10: the five k territory if not more? And you know
- 1:06:06Speaker 10: I mentioned this to you before, Fritz, Like, I'm having
- 1:06:09Speaker 10: a hard time justifying it to my significant other because then,
- 1:06:12Speaker 10: like she's like, you're getting all frustrated. Even when you
- 1:06:15Speaker 10: go to the game. You see Drake May he's right there.
- 1:06:17Speaker 10: They're not even putting them in you know, why are
- 1:06:22Speaker 10: you doing this? And then it got me to thinking
- 1:06:24Speaker 10: it's like, I mean, what are what are our rights
- 1:06:27Speaker 10: as far as expecting something from the organization of putting
- 1:06:30Speaker 10: a better product out there on the field. Well, we're
- 1:06:32Speaker 10: putting in money, We're putting in time.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: That sorry, Fred, go ahead, Well you express your right
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: by not putting in the money in time. You know,
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: if you're not liking what you're seeing to that extent towards,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: stop spending the money. And that's how you express your
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: point of view. Or you can call this show and.
- 1:06:52Speaker 10: That that would make me less of a fan.
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: No, I don't think it does make you less of
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: a fan. You know, like you said, not everyone's in
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: the same situation economic or time wise, work wise, whatever.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: And you know, sometimes the amount of money or time
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: that you spend with your team is precious and if
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: it's not satisfying you, you have a right to spend
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: that money in time somewhere else, and that's your right.
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: I don't think you need a piece of paper to
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: tell you that, but I but I totally agree. You know,
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: like some people might want to take a time out
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: right now and because they have other things.
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: But on the flip side, if you want to go
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: to the games, that doesn't mean that that they need
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: to do the things that you want them to do. No, Like, yeah,
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: it's not.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Five years, you get a refund.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: I agree with. There's a lot of people that I
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: think are passionate fans that never go to games. Some
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: of them just don't really want to go through the game.
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: They enjoy their routine. Others aren't, as Fred said, are
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: not in the same economic situation where they can afford
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: to go to the game.
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: I mean, it's like a little stock market. Instead of
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: just money, you're investing your time money in emotion. Sometimes
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: it pays off. The investment for the last twenty years
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: has paid huge dividends for Patriots fans. Right now we're
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: in the red, but we're hoping to get back into
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: the Blacks soon enough.
- 1:08:13Speaker 15: Okay, so.
- 1:08:15Speaker 10: I think that's reasonable. I just feel like not doing
- 1:08:20Speaker 10: it when I have the opportunity to do so and
- 1:08:23Speaker 10: hopefully get in on the ground floor, like you're saying,
- 1:08:25Speaker 10: as an investment, get in on the ground floor and
- 1:08:27Speaker 10: seeing you know, ny entry into the league development and
- 1:08:32Speaker 10: then okay, this is our guy moving forward, and this
- 1:08:34Speaker 10: is the guy that we're going to support with our time, money,
- 1:08:36Speaker 10: energy and passion. But it was just really frustrating on Sunday,
- 1:08:41Speaker 10: like sitting there and watching him and you know, and
- 1:08:43Speaker 10: this is maybe a question for Evan because I really
- 1:08:45Speaker 10: don't understand why he was basically standing behind the defense
- 1:08:50Speaker 10: the entire time when the Patriots were on offense rather
- 1:08:53Speaker 10: than being on the other side, maybe seeing where Brissette
- 1:08:56Speaker 10: is steeen or maybe next to Avp so he can
- 1:08:58Speaker 10: get a better understanding. But I'll leave that for ever
- 1:09:01Speaker 10: to see what was the reasoning behind that.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: Okay, thanks Mike.
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: You know, I will say I don't really know why
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: anybody would have a reason for where why Drake May
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: stood where he stood. He's a piece other than Drake May.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: Yeah, Like.
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: He's listening to everything, right, he's got the he's got
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: the earpiece in his ear. I just don't know. Sometimes
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: I don't understand.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: I will say this about the fan thing. You know,
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: if you're not risking your relationship because you're spending too
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: much time with the Patriots, or risking not paying bills,
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: if you can afford to do it, if you stick
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: it out now and still go to the games and
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: still then when they get better, you can say, you
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: know what, I stuck with him. I was there, you know.
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: But you can also stick with him without going yeah,
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: like again this whole thing, Like, you know, you're a
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: stronger fan if you choose to shell out your money
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: and time and go I don't think that. Like, how
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: many years was Mike on the West Coast? You'd be
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: hard pressed to find anybody more passionate about the Patriots
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: than Mike was before he even started working here. How
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: many games did you get to go to in person?
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: Not a lot?
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: Not a lot, I mean about one a year. Maybe
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: there are a couple of years, so it was hard.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: But like, but to me, for someone that was on
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: the West coast, that's that's but he.
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: Went, he went to a game because they were on
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: the West coast, but General or Seattle or something.
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: But you know, you took the opportunity when you could.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: You know that to me.
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: But he's living and dying with the team every week,
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: I know, every week. Even as disappointed as he was
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: with those twelve and four finishes.
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: It was tough.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: General, just sick of them.
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: I think the fans should have the right to bear takes,
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: Like you can call in and say whatever you want.
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: Mike and Mike. That's your bill of rights is to
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: call in and bitch to me and Fred and Mike
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: and Evan about like why is may not playing or
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: you know, let's be why why would they even be
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: thinking about playing may?
- 1:10:52Speaker 12: You know?
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: Like that's your bill of rights. I mean nothing else.
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: Let us have it.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: Mike's and San Antonio. What's up Mike Mike's today?
- 1:11:00Speaker 18: Hey fellows, how you're doing good? Good to good to
- 1:11:03Speaker 18: speak to you being in cowboys country and that's all
- 1:11:05Speaker 18: I hear about, so it really gets old. But appreciate
- 1:11:07Speaker 18: you guys.
- 1:11:09Speaker 16: Hey, I had a question for you guys, And.
- 1:11:12Speaker 18: Excuse my ignorance, but I was wondering. So every time
- 1:11:14Speaker 18: I hear these these interviews, I see that the media
- 1:11:17Speaker 18: doesn't ask pointed questions, and as members of the media,
- 1:11:21Speaker 18: I'm just curious what your guys thoughts are like if
- 1:11:23Speaker 18: pointed questions are asked, is it detrimental to the person
- 1:11:27Speaker 18: or the member of media asking like, Hey, you guys
- 1:11:30Speaker 18: haven't done anything to rectify the offensive line? Why, like
- 1:11:34Speaker 18: really holding then accountable.
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: I'm just curious that that particular question was asked in
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: the summer to Elliott Wolfe. Greg Bernard asked it.
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he did.
- 1:11:45Speaker 10: It.
- 1:11:45Speaker 18: Seems like they kind of dance around it a little bit, didn't,
- 1:11:47Speaker 18: you know. It's you know, just kind of frustrating.
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: Yeah. No, I mean I'm going to give Greg Bernard
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: the credit for it, because he asked a very pointed question.
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: It went on way longer than it needed to. There's
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: my shot at Greg. Thanks. His question was you had
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: made all these comments about the offensive line and didn't
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: address the left tackle spot like that was basically summarizing
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: his question. It was as pointed as you could be.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: I understand what Mike is saying, because sometimes to answer
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: his question, Yeah, it can be difficult to ask those
- 1:12:18Speaker 5: difficult questions and sometimes there's a blowback, you know, especially now,
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: like there's a lot of fans now that don't want
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: to hear that. A lot of fans don't want to
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: hear negativity around their team and they take their anger
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: out on the media. Why are you bringing that up,
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: you know, as it like you should be supporting Vederian
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: Lowe rather than saying they don't have a left tackle.
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: Some fans do that now. It shouldn't affect you as
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: a journalist. If you're doing your job the right way,
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: you shouldn't worry about it. But the fact of the
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: matter is what Mike is talking about. We have another
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: mic coming up on the on the screen. But what
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: Mike is talking about does happen. And I think sometimes
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: especially younger writers, they get on their phones and they
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: get on Twitter and they see the interactions like with me,
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: like I've been called fat, bald and old for twenty
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: five years, so like it just I don't really even
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: look at it anymore that much. It just kind of
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: glosses over. But some people don't want to see that
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: negativity around them, and they want to sort of be
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: one of the you know, I want to be part
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: of you, you know, And I think that that kind
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: of clouds your questions sometimes.
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: I don't think. I think sports journalism is there's very
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: few that are actually practicing it.
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: I totally agree, yeah, And I wouldn't put myself in
- 1:13:33Speaker 5: that category anymore because I'm not covering the day to
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: day people, but for the team. Well, no, like for
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: for fifteen years, you know, with Brian Morey and myself
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: and then Andy Hart, we were covering the team as
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: journalists all stars. I mean, you know, I'm more of
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: a like analytical now than I than I am covering
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: the team, but we used to do that all the time.
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: You need to ask pointed questions.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: Ev and I were talking a little bit about Nick Underhill,
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: who went, you know, down to New Orleans and create
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: his own site and it's having a lot of success.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: And you know, Nick had said that just there's not
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: a lot, there's not the volume of people covering the team.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: And I know New York always gets up brought up
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: as an example of a team where pointycap questions get
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: asked a lot. I'm just wondering what the other media
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: landscapes are like around the other NFL teams, especially where
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: I'd say most of them are probably smaller than people
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: that cover here are this. Are those smaller groups better
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: at holding their feet to the fire a little bit
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: and asking those pointed questions.
- 1:14:27Speaker 6: Or is it like why here?
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: Like you know what I mean?
- 1:14:29Speaker 10: They?
- 1:14:29Speaker 19: I mean, there's a long history here with like Bill
- 1:14:32Speaker 19: and the media and the fans who sided with Bill
- 1:14:35Speaker 19: and you know, spent twenty years killing Felger and Mazu
- 1:14:39Speaker 19: and defending Bill in the organization, and now those people
- 1:14:42Speaker 19: are killing the organization and the coach, and it's like
- 1:14:44Speaker 19: everything's kind of flipped, like it's a weird dynamic.
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the weird part on it's good good study,
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: good case study. I think the weird part is because
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: they were so successful that the negativity was drowned out
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: and unwarranted. Right, But there was there was, but there
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: was there was no need for twenty years to hold
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: anyone's feet to the fire. Whereas in Philadelphia, in Dallas,
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: you know, in these markets that I would consider to
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: be really strong football media markets, obviously the Jets and Giants,
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: then they didn't win like that for twenty straight years,
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: So they want to know why when you're not winning,
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: and why are you're not winning? And those are huge
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: media markets, look like huge press corps, like Philadelphia is
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: as big as this, and Dallas is certainly, you know,
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: as big the New York's dwarf, the Patriots contingent, and
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: they ask all those questions. And I think it's because,
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: like the Borgeouses, the Mannixes, the Hobbies, Hobson, Ron Hobson,
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: when those guys sort of wrapped up their career toward
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: the beginning of the dynasty, they were replaced by young
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: guys that knew nothing but dominance. Younger guys. I shouldn't
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: say you just young guys, and there was no need,
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: There was no need to ask, you know, anything that
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: was remotely negative when we didn't.
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: Adam from Louisiana a little listener on Listener Crime. We
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: always love that I wasn't able to buy every single
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: player's jersey. There were a few on the practice squad
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: that got cut before I could buy their jersey? Does
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: that make me less of a fan? That guy asking
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: me about a Bill of rights just wanted to flex
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: on other people that he was going to all those
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: away games.
- 1:16:28Speaker 6: Yeah, it was I.
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: Gotta say, And and I like Mike knows that. He
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: might's been a lot. I don't know if you know
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: Mike and Puerto Rican, he's been around. I've noticed now
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: he's one of our one of our really really loyal listeners.
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: I thought that was a little odd, Like the fact
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: that I go to games gives me more of a voice.
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: James Pettigrew the most.
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: Is this going to start a trend?
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: Poor Mike, James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan of
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: the world, says. The Patriots Bill of Rights is like
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: the Miranda Rights. You have the right to remain silent.
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: Poor Mike.
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: Yeah, back to the team.
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: Has got something on it. He's got that.
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: I got a lot of things though, I got a
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: lot of a lot of things on my mind.
- 1:17:11Speaker 16: I don't know.
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: I'm still kind of like on the.
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: He's like, I'm ready to make a T shirt.
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: I'm interested.
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: This is more about the Bill and the media thing,
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: just because it was fun. It was fun when you
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: had Felger and Maz jabbing at Bill, and Bill has
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: this great demeanor of being gruff and not answering questions.
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: But Bill also had a lot of success, so you had,
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: you know, the dynamic of a successful coach who is
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: you know, very tight lipped and you know, does things
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: the way he does it. And you have Felger and
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: mas and those types and you know going at him
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: hard and but you always kind of knew, like, but
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: the Patriots still could win these games, you know. And
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: now it's just like it's changed for me, and sometimes
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: it feels like we're just like, yeah, these guys don't
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: really they're new, like they.
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: Don't really know what they're doing, and they're still kind
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: of killing them.
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: Like Bill, it's just not as more, it's not as
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: much fun because there's not as much pushback yet from
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: the football side of things. Like that's kind of where
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: I'm still at.
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: I'll just tell you here. Because Felger was a beat
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: writer for years. Yeah he wasn't doing it. Yeah he wasn't.
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: He wasn't hammered away because they were successful.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: Was in their pocket.
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: They were successful. Now, I think when you go to
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: the like the second half of the Dynasty, and you're
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: like you're going under the premise of well, you know, well,
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: Bill Cutt Lawyer and Maloya and they won the Super Bowl, right,
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: and that becomes the basis for every single move they
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: make after that. Felger specifically would say no, like we
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: take this on a case by case basis if you would,
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: if you agree with this move, agree with it, but
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: don't just say it's right, because well, the last time
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: they did it, it worked. It's like, you know, we
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: resurrected Corey Dillon's career. Doesn't mean that's going to happen
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: with Albert Haynesworth perfect, perfect, you know, and he wasn't
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: afraid to do that.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Yeah, they were just more suitable adversaries.
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: That you know, like right now, it just feels kind
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: of like they're one and three.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: This coaching staff, it's you know, a bumpy star for
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: first time guys all doing stuff and so it's just
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: kind of and the other side of the coin is
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: so well versed in poking holes and everything, and you know,
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: any little bit in a press conference that boom, you know,
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: like and it's they're not ready.
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: They're under onto Cincinnati. Right, So it's week five of
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: twenty fourteen. Deonto Cincinnati press conference was sort of I
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: don't know what's what's the right word, ignited, by Albert
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: Breer for asking a lot of very pointed questions and
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: Bill wasn't having it, and he just kept saying, We're
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: on to Cincinnati. That's how that all originated. There was
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: all the questions that we don't ask, and when I
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: say we, I'm not saying I don't. I don't ask
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: him either, and I don't ask those kinds of questions.
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: But Albert Breer was really going at him on Brady
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: at the time there was a ten year gap and
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: like are they ever gonna win again? By win win
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: at all? Those were a lot of questions that that
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: Albert asked and probably cost him a relationship because he
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: was pretty tight with them at the time and he
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: was persona non grounded so that the other part of it, Albert,
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: but do you remember that friend?
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: Yeah? Sure do? Uh CJ's and case, what's up? CJ?
- 1:20:19Speaker 8: Hey?
- 1:20:19Speaker 10: What's up?
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: Guys?
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: Hey?
- 1:20:21Speaker 16: I wanted to do?
- 1:20:23Speaker 17: Like what do you think is gonna is more likely
- 1:20:27Speaker 17: to happen? First scenario is first week in November comes along,
- 1:20:31Speaker 17: and we are more likely to be talking about how
- 1:20:34Speaker 17: traded away from talent to build up for the draft,
- 1:20:39Speaker 17: or are we more likely to be talking about Drake
- 1:20:41Speaker 17: May starting and how he's progressing.
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: The second one. I think as the season goes on,
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: we're gonna be more likely talking about Drake May in
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: his progress.
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: I hope, I agree. Yeah, yeah, what do you think?
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: He got his answer and done?
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: I'm gonna get in and out real quick.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: All right, So let's go to Vermont, Mike, what's up?
- 1:21:06Speaker 11: Yes?
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: First off, I love my Patriots no matter what. I'll
- 1:21:09Speaker 8: sit here and watch them lose if I have to.
- 1:21:12Speaker 8: I'm just a diarn Patriots fan. Now my question is,
- 1:21:15Speaker 8: do you think we'll get to team May play all
- 1:21:18Speaker 8: this year?
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah, I do. I think it's gonna happen soon.
- 1:21:23Speaker 16: I want to see what he can do.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: I mean, you're what we all do, Mike.
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think it's gonna happen soon.
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: I do too.
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: I mean, Jacoby presaid, I think he's been sacked fifteen
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: times in four games, So one way or another, I
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: think track May is gonna get in there.
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: Thanks, Mike, I just say too.
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: Like the other thing, go back to the fan thing,
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: Like I just talking about going to games and like
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: I just feel like the Patriots never give me and
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: I'm just talking fandies like another thing again, like I'm
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: already okay like those that twenty years of watching football
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: in those games, and I don't know, I don't think
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: I could ask for more as a fan, like think
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: getting that and I understand we want them to be
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: good again and that'll be fun, but you kind of
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: feel like you got to earn your stripes again and
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: it's never going to get back to that level.
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: It can be really frustrating to like be good and
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: not quite get over the hump and all that stuff.
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: But like I just have never felt like because I
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: go to games, I'm owed something like I go to
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: against because I want to go to games. I enjoyed
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: the games and I was a season ticket holder here
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: before Fred hired me, and in ninety six I went
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: to I want to say that I went to eleven games.
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: I think they had like the Jets and Giants both
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: at the Mental Lands that year he went. I went
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: to the super Bowl, you know, the playoff games. Like
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: I went to a lot of games that year, but
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: I didn't like leave the super Bowl and say they
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: owe me more. Yeah, they will be a better performance today,
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: Like I never once thought of it that way.
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: I think there might be you know, there's some fan
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: bases that you know, if I'm going to be a
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: season ticket holder, at least I want to know that
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: ownership is trying to win and they're doing everything they
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: can to feel the team that's competitive. I think the
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: fans are owed that, you know, I.
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: But see to me is like that would lead me
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: to like the Red Sox right now, Like, if you
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: feel like they're not doing that, you're not old anything,
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: don't go. Like if you lose faith that your team
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: is doing whatever it can to win, right then that's
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: the time you should step back and say I'm out.
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: Right and and but to Mike's point, if you do that,
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: don't feel like you're any less of a fan doing that, and.
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: Don't feel like you're owed something like if you feel
- 1:23:30Speaker 5: like you go and you're owed more of a commitment,
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: then stop going. And that was the advice that you gave.
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: He gave.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: It's like the hard part because you can't really choose, Like,
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: you know, it's like, I am going to be a
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: Patriots fan no matter what. Like when I lived in California,
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: there was a period of time I'm like, maybe I
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: could be a Dodger fan, Like I'm just gonna start
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: to follow the team, try to get into a little bit.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: I just I can never get invested.
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: And that's the thing. It's like, why do you follow
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: the team?
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: Why are you a fan?
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: If your fan only to win Super Bowls? I don't
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: know if that's really being a fan. Like, I know
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: a lot of people who before the Red Sox finally
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: broke through and one in two thousand and four, they
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: kind of love being a Red Sox. Part of being
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: a Red Sox fan was that, you know, we're never
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: we can't get over that hump. It's always something, but
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: they'll always wear that cap proudly and they love watching
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: the team on TV. It was just being a Red Sox.
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: Faneah, part of your identity, I mean.
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: And that's like as much as it was fun watching them,
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: when Super Bowls can do that, Like, I honestly think
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: one of my favorite things of this whole experience, going
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: back to being a blogger to being a fan to
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: now you know, working for the organization, is the meeting
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: all these people Patriots fans, I mean, going to Germany
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: and you know, people coming up to us and you know,
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: these people live on the other side of the world
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: we don't know, but we share a bond suddenly with
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: you know, kids coming down from England that came to
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: see you know us and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: I know, thank you.
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: No, it's but even as a fan, when I was
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: just you know, a blogger guy, it was just so
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: cool to go to a game in San Diego and
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: be like, where's the Patriots tailgate and you find all
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: these random people from all over the country. When you
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: guys would do the meetups at the bar before the
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: away games, you know, I went to one of those
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: that to me was just the coolest part is having
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: Seattle one Seattle.
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: Yeah, we were probably in the same Oh no, you
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: walked right by me. I was like, there's Fred Kirsh.
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: I didn't see Paul though.
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: I don't know if I don't know if it was
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: the same one. I was definitely at one of those
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: in Seattle. I don't know if it was.
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: I didn't I didn't go to the I don't know
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: if it was one at Seattle where I think it
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: was our first one. It was so packed. This one
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: was paying They left the bar left so much money
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: on the table by not having enough help, I mean,
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: people wanted to spend their money and they were waiting
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: like half an hour.
- 1:25:46Speaker 6: I think that's why. I think that's why I left them,
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: Like I can't get a drinking.
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: All they had to do was bring in like four
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: or five more you know, waitresses, waiters and bartenders and
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: they would have cleaned up.
- 1:25:57Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: I used to say, like when I was growing up,
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: because like friends, right, like why are you a fan
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: of a team? Well, for me, I was just ingrained
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: into Boston. I grew up here. So the four Boston
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: teams are my four favorite teams. And I used to
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: always get frustrated, like people be like the Bruins fans,
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: the Bruins fans are the best, They're the most loyal,
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: and I'm like, no, I think they're the dummies because
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: there was a time where they absolutely refused to do
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: what it took to compete at the highest level and
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: they were content with just being okay. And then that changed, obviously,
- 1:26:32Speaker 5: and they you know, when they got the rules changed
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: in the lockout and all that stuff happened. It's boring,
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: but just because like the fifteen thousand people that would
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: show up at the garden every night, it doesn't make
- 1:26:45Speaker 5: you better fans than the ones who say I'm frustrated
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: that Jacobs won't do what it takes to Instead of
- 1:26:52Speaker 5: being the Adams Division champs, he wants to be the
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: Stanley Cup champs. You know, I don't think that makes
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: you any better or worse of a fan. If you
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: choose to go and do that, that's fine. But I
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: used to argue, like, like you're a chump because they're
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: not gonna do it. They're not gonna spend the money.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: And when they get good in eighty eight and ninety
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: and they make some moves, they're just gonna let those
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: guys go anyway. And that's exactly what they did.
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: Valentin from Switzerland rights in on Podcasts dot com. I
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: should say podcasts at Patriots dot com do what's best
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: for the team and cut Mike Douss. The team is
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: on a downward spiral since you hired him. Only kidding, Mike,
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: I still like you. All those key injuries are simply
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: the football gods punishing us every game that proset starts.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: I digress play may have a good one that's fun.
- 1:27:40Speaker 6: Thanks a lot, appreciate it.
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: So we were talking about media stuff a little bit,
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: and I don't know if you guys are aware of
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: this thing. Like Adam Schefter now they're talking about maybe
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: replacing woj as like the NBA insider on ESPN. He's
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: done that, like he's done a little NBA stuff. They
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: sort of degraded him a little bit, but I like
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: their premise here on one of my shows with Beatle
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: and Zoe is taking over inside duties for the NBA.
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: Does that prove that it's really not that hard? And
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: I would say absolutely yes it does.
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: It's just how do you just fall into that?
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: Well, obviously they're gonna this is the guy. This is
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: the guy you filter your infro. This is his cell
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: phone number, so all the NBA gms, this is the
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: guy you now leak your staff, right, which is you know?
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: Now, it's a lot.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: Just focus on football, Shifter, I don't need everything.
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: Chef talks about the baseball guy possibly doing it too,
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: Jeff Passing like he might do it too, Like, so
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: is it really because he was so good at what
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: he did or you're just telling me now he's the
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: guy everybody just well.
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: It's probably Schefter obviously earned it all the contacts initially
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: in football, but then like like, you.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: Couldn't take Paul Perillo off the street and say, well,
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: ESPN's gonna hire him as their insider. All you gms
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: now you context, it wouldn't work. You have to have
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: a level of notoriety in order to do it if
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: and obviously Chefter worked his way up to that.
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: In the NFL, Ford and Savannah Georgia says, it might
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: be right or wrong, but you guys telling the caller
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: that he could use his voice by not buying a ticket.
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: It's just one of the reasons that you are my
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: favorite show. Major credit for always telling it how you
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: see it, super refreshing. A credit to you all and
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: the team for making space for a show this honest.
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: I might get in trouble for that, actually, but we'll see.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I don't think. Yeah, I don't take
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: it as literally as as that, but I understand. I know, yeah,
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: the premise of what they're talking about there. But again,
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: if you don't think you if it doesn't bring you enjoyment,
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: I would say stop doing it. Like for me, yeah,
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: like I went to every game because I loved it.
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: Now I'm fifty six years old. Now, if I wasn't
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: working here, anymore. I don't think i'd be doing tailgates
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: every single Sunday. I would still go. I would go
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: to a game or two, but I don't know if
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: I would go to all eight home games like I
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: did before you hired me.
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think that.
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: I mean, I get what Mike's point was, because he's
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: going to a game at a very specific point in
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: time when Drake may sit in the bench, but otherwise,
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: from the big picture of view, you've got the third
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: overall picks sitting there. So no matter how the team
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: looks at this exact second, like there should be a
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: little bit excitement of just you, Like we say, you've
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: still got your best club in the bag, and at
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: some point, this kid's gonna come in. So, yes, you
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: spent money to go to a game in San Francisco,
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: but you know, in a couple of months, people are
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: going to be spending money, hopefully to see this young
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: kid play, and I think he'll be he'll be worth
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: the price to go in at least, you know, out
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: of the gate, we'll see. We know how hard it is,
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: and it's so hard for all these guys. That's the
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: other part. It's just this is it's really hard to
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: build a winning franchise.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: And they're in a rebuild, so little patience. All right,
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: back to the tps houtline. Patty's inn agawam, what's up? Patty? Patty?
- 1:30:55Speaker 20: Hey you can hear me?
- 1:30:56Speaker 6: Okay, Patty?
- 1:30:58Speaker 20: All right? Sorry about that? Yeah on bluetooth. Yeah, I
- 1:31:02Speaker 20: agree like you fan, however, you want a fan like
- 1:31:07Speaker 20: you guys were talking about the Stocks, and I remember
- 1:31:11Speaker 20: two thousand and three the Alcs when Boone hit that
- 1:31:15Speaker 20: home run, Like I was at my friend John's South
- 1:31:18Speaker 20: and I walked out of his house and sat in
- 1:31:19Speaker 20: my car and just laughed for like five minutes because
- 1:31:22Speaker 20: I the realization came to me, like wow, I may
- 1:31:26Speaker 20: never see this team ever win a World Series because
- 1:31:28Speaker 20: of how many people it's coming gone and it never happened.
- 1:31:32Speaker 20: But that didn't sway me from from Dan a Red
- 1:31:36Speaker 20: Sox fan. And you know, Deuce, I think you and
- 1:31:39Speaker 20: I are roughly the same age. I turned forty eight
- 1:31:42Speaker 20: in a week and I was I was with it,
- 1:31:46Speaker 20: you know when they when they sucked, and like I
- 1:31:49Speaker 20: said yesterday, like it doesn't matter to me if they're
- 1:31:52Speaker 20: gonna win one game this year, if they're gonna win
- 1:31:54Speaker 20: five or eight eights pushing it, but it doesn't matter.
- 1:31:57Speaker 20: Like I'm still gonna watch every week. As much as
- 1:32:01Speaker 20: I disagree with them sticking Jacobe out there, I want
- 1:32:04Speaker 20: to see the new kid play, but it doesn't matter.
- 1:32:06Speaker 20: That's not gonna deter me from watching this team and
- 1:32:09Speaker 20: seeing how many other players are going to drop, you know,
- 1:32:12Speaker 20: before the end of the season.
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: But that's all.
- 1:32:14Speaker 9: That was my two cents.
- 1:32:16Speaker 20: And yes, you guys are the best.
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I like Patty, I like the thought, I like
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: the theory. Like I don't tell people how to fan. Yeah,
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: you know, I have my thoughts and opinions, but like
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: whatever is Oh yeah, I'm sure that Mike and I
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: we were very passionate Patriots fans before we started working here,
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: but we probably went about it in different ways.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: And that was something like another one and like after
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: years of writing and following the team that I before
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: I even decided here, was that people watch sports in
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: their own way, and they're gonna react in their own way,
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: and it's sports, and that's.
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: Mike and I have learned that in UH, in this
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: new season, with our new UH, with our new pre
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: and post game hosts.
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: Sometimes it might be a little annoying how people watch
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: the sport.
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: But I invite you to watch a game with our
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: new hosts. Sometimes it's a different experience.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: Well, what I will say for some people, though, is
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: when you start believing that the team is a reflection
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: of you and like and you know, I'm embarrassed, you know,
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: And it's like, guy, you know, you didn't just lose
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: a kidney.
- 1:33:15Speaker 15: Yeah, you know, but it's it okay to be proud. Yeah,
- 1:33:20Speaker 15: so what's the different feel like you're part of?
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: So you can be proud that they won six titles,
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: but you can't be embarrassed that they went three and whatever.
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: But to have to make you miserable, like, don't don't
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: like I would suggest that don't let it ruin your life.
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: Yeah, well, you know, there should be some balance. It
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: is sports, after all, right.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: It's right.
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: I do think too the winning streak and I mean,
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: even speaking for myself personally, that a lot of people
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: did start to associate their identity but success and you know,
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: and and it's jarring now that that part of your
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: identity of being awesome and kicking everybody's ass and you know,
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: being the toast of the town, like that part of
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: your identity doesn't exist anymore.
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: Earlier in the show, Mike, you were in the locker
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: room putting Ben Gay on, but Fraser came out with
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: a list of percentages of what could happen if Drake
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: May played, and kind of to prove your point, the
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: point that he shouldn't play at this point.
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: It's a good email, seriously.
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: A couple of reactions to that. Jordan writes in Yeah,
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: Fraser has no idea what he's talking about. He wanted
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: to say, you guys have no common sense, then proceeded
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: to throw out some bogus percentages picked out of thin air.
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: Drake May is mentally a lot stronger than Max Jones.
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: He'll be fine. If he starts to make bad habits.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: It's not a big deal. We expect that that. He's
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: a lot like Josh Allen in year one. If you
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: miss out on starting Drake May this year, you'll be
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: going into year two blind. You won't know anything about
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: him or your offense. And at the end of the day,
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: this is a business. You need to sell tickets. You
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: know who sells tickets. Drake May. He wants some percentages
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: one hundred percent chance of learning who Drake May is.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: If you start him this year, one hundred percent chance
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: you go to year two with some direction, one hundred
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: percent chance more ticket sales.
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: That's real. The last one is I'm going to be
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: fair to Fraser on that. So Mike, he had some
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: percentages like he gets hurt, you know, twenty five percent.
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: You know it wasn't get hurt, it was serious injury
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: that impacts his career twenty five percent, and then like
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: thirty five percent, like he gets mentally beat down and whatnot.
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: But I'm gonna put I'm gonna defend Fraser and just
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: say on this email, how do you know that Drake
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: May is mentally tougher.
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: Than Mac Jones right until he's tested?
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: Right? Yeah, how do you know he's going to be
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: like Josh Allen at this point? Like I would just
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: just like I can't blindly say that Drake May is
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: going to get hurt if he plays the way Fraser said,
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: and it's going to be serious and impact his career.
- 1:35:47Speaker 5: I can't say that because I don't know. I can't
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: say this either, even though this is what I want
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: to see happen. I want made to play, but I
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: can't tell you all those things are going to happen.
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: If he does, I will say that they will sell tickets,
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: more tickets and the making of selling tickets. Tell you Evan.
- 1:36:05Speaker 7: Has turned pact?
- 1:36:08Speaker 15: Has we turned?
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: Has we turned from practice? Evan? A little chili out there?
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: No, actually it was. It was at hotest chili this morning,
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: but it wasn't too chilly.
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: Now.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: I was actually sweating a little bit.
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: But you are back from practice, so tell us what
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: is going to dine eye glean.
- 1:36:32Speaker 15: There's a lot of stuff to glean from. I had
- 1:36:36Speaker 15: to take notes to make sure I had it all
- 1:36:38Speaker 15: down on your phone paper.
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: What do you think?
- 1:36:40Speaker 20: Come on?
- 1:36:41Speaker 15: Uh, I would say, first note, just attendance wise, good
- 1:36:45Speaker 15: and bad news on the attendance front, what do you
- 1:36:49Speaker 15: want to start with?
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: Good?
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: Bad?
- 1:36:51Speaker 15: Obviously No, David Andrews uh no. Kiden Wallace and you're down.
- 1:36:55Speaker 15: You're two starting safeties all of a sudden, apparently too,
- 1:36:58Speaker 15: because Kyle Duggar Andrebrill Peppers were both missing from practice today.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: Mike's like blank blank, yeah, yeah, so that that's not
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: great news.
- 1:37:10Speaker 15: And then on the good news front, Kendrick Bourne, Siaki
- 1:37:14Speaker 15: Taki Marte Mapu all back, so their window officially open.
- 1:37:20Speaker 6: Did look distraught still or standing.
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: Twenty five yards behind the defense?
- 1:37:26Speaker 15: He was participating, uh, much to my chagrin with the
- 1:37:31Speaker 15: wrong position group, but he was.
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: He was participating.
- 1:37:34Speaker 15: So let's take him from Brian Belichick's huddle and let's
- 1:37:40Speaker 15: move him to Dante High Towers huddle and see how
- 1:37:43Speaker 15: that goes for a little while. But right now he's
- 1:37:46Speaker 15: working with the safeties.
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: Okay, So that was disappointed Low. Vaderian Low was there.
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: And so this is the other big bit of news.
- 1:37:56Speaker 15: The offensive line has been put in a blender and
- 1:38:00Speaker 15: it seems like we are starting from scratch, and can
- 1:38:04Speaker 15: we try to start try to pretend some of them
- 1:38:07Speaker 15: just to be just to be clear some of it
- 1:38:09Speaker 15: before you start try because I want to give you
- 1:38:11Speaker 15: a hint here. Some of it is just simply injury related.
- 1:38:15Speaker 15: And certain guys were back participating that weren't participating last week.
- 1:38:21Speaker 15: So if you think about that, it's not all completely.
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: So I'm gonna say so you're saying, it's not what's
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: his face the kid Tay Harris Harris, so Leverett h. Robinson,
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: and it's not that left to right.
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: Now, who's Harris? You mean the other kid kid.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Jacob.
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: Sorry, Harris Jack, It's not Jacobs.
- 1:38:50Speaker 12: I was.
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: I was with Fred because I thought that maybe one
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: of those guys that we signed off of waivers was Harris.
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: I was also confused, Sorry, so is it so it
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: Joe Robinson.
- 1:39:05Speaker 15: Inside, You're not even close Michael Jordan's back m j
- 1:39:14Speaker 15: Michael Jordan's yep, all right left guard? So at left guard,
- 1:39:19Speaker 15: at right guard or right tackle?
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: Right guard? Wait a minute, confused, I'm gonna I'm just gonna.
- 1:39:25Speaker 15: Left to right left tackle Darien Lowe, left guard, Michael Jordan, center,
- 1:39:31Speaker 15: Nick Leverett right guard City so right tackle Mike n Winning.
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: So I would say, yeah, I thought there was a
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: chance that when you brought that up that a win
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: who might have moved in. But I thought so when
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: Robinson both struggled in that game, and so I think
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: is a little bit more understandable given the amount of time.
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: He was like six or seven weeks. So you gotta
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: knock some rust off there, Robinson was. He struggled.
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: He wondered if that guy I like, I like, they're
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: starting to be like, he's not improving, he's not getting
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: it right. We gotta we gotta make a change.
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: It seems like I see, I kind of thought that
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: he had a little bit more power to his game.
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: I agree, And I thought he got pushed back a
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: lot of that game the other day. He struggled.
- 1:40:14Speaker 15: He's struggled in pass protection basically all year. But you
- 1:40:17Speaker 15: expect that from a younger player. You know, he's seeing
- 1:40:19Speaker 15: fronts that he's never seen before. He's seen games upfront
- 1:40:22Speaker 15: that he's never seen before, blitzes like that kind of stuff.
- 1:40:25Speaker 15: But physically he struggled in this game on Sunday seven
- 1:40:28Speaker 15: quarterback pressures allowed as him and Trey Jacobs allowed the most.
- 1:40:32Speaker 15: So Robinson to the bench maybe for a mental reset
- 1:40:36Speaker 15: and just kind of watch for a little while and
- 1:40:38Speaker 15: see how it goes.
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: Last year so and.
- 1:40:41Speaker 15: On when who played next to each other for the
- 1:40:43Speaker 15: majority of the season on the right side, and one
- 1:40:45Speaker 15: of the only things that they had on that offense
- 1:40:47Speaker 15: was running behind the two of those guys. So re
- 1:40:50Speaker 15: establishing that, I think Jordan's been okay at left guard
- 1:40:54Speaker 15: for right now. Vederian is your best left tackle, you
- 1:40:57Speaker 15: can sell me, yeah. I I actually think that this
- 1:41:00Speaker 15: is not a horrible shake up, like if they were
- 1:41:03Speaker 15: going to shake it up. I think This is about
- 1:41:05Speaker 15: where I would have had it to bring in Drake May.
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: I only want it, Yes, I want it to be temporary.
- 1:41:12Speaker 5: Let's put it that way. Like it's on the surface,
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: the fact that your two rookies by week five are
- 1:41:19Speaker 5: sort of out is not good. But I kind of
- 1:41:23Speaker 5: like the idea of moving and Evan's right, like running
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: the ball last year behind So and when who worked.
- 1:41:30Speaker 5: I don't think So was as good as people think
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: he was last year overall, but they did run the
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: ball well behind those two guys last year. That's kind
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: of fact.
- 1:41:39Speaker 15: Yeah, That's why I give Laden Robinson a little bit
- 1:41:42Speaker 15: of a pass, because I think rookie offensive linemen, if
- 1:41:45Speaker 15: they are going to struggle, they're going to struggle in
- 1:41:47Speaker 15: pass protection because in this league, you know, college teams
- 1:41:51Speaker 15: do not scheme.
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: Up the pass rush like they do at the NFL level.
- 1:41:54Speaker 15: You're not seeing all these crazy pressures and different line
- 1:41:57Speaker 15: games and all that kind of stuff. And then obviously
- 1:42:00Speaker 15: the power is much different at this level than it
- 1:42:03Speaker 15: is in college. So City So was a little bit
- 1:42:05Speaker 15: inconsistent in past pro last year. Landon Robinson's a little
- 1:42:08Speaker 15: bit inconsistent in past pro this year. So I'm not
- 1:42:11Speaker 15: all that surprised by that being the fact. But seven
- 1:42:14Speaker 15: quarterback pressures allowed, as seven quarterback pressure.
- 1:42:17Speaker 5: Get low and Jordan's good, hopefully a little bit closer
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: to full strength, and maybe you can go.
- 1:42:23Speaker 4: What were your media cohorts grumbling or just talking about today?
- 1:42:28Speaker 5: So we had a couple of things. I like, how
- 1:42:31Speaker 5: we have some thing? Yeah, I know he's gonna ask.
- 1:42:36Speaker 15: Well, first they all thought that I was getting in
- 1:42:38Speaker 15: trouble with Josh j in the locker room because spreading
- 1:42:40Speaker 15: her Yeah, yeah, Evan, that wasn't the case, thankfully this time. Anyways,
- 1:42:48Speaker 15: then we got on to uh town spot because somebody
- 1:42:54Speaker 15: in the media.
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: Couldn't agree.
- 1:42:57Speaker 15: More so, somebody in the media contingent hadn't been and
- 1:43:00Speaker 15: and they keep hearing the hype, and you know, mister Sharon,
- 1:43:05Speaker 15: you know, had.
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: To tell everybody how great it is.
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: And uh, I wasn't.
- 1:43:11Speaker 6: I thought I was mister Sharon.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: I guess I'm Captain Sharon.
- 1:43:14Speaker 15: No, No, if anybody's mister Sharon, it's Aaron. But like
- 1:43:17Speaker 15: you're you're a second place on this one.
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: He did those two passes, they wouldn't have lost forty
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: two to nothing.
- 1:43:27Speaker 15: So there's this this overrated pizza place and Sharon called
- 1:43:30Speaker 15: town spa that only the locals think is good and uh,
- 1:43:35Speaker 15: and so we talked about that and then Mike Reese
- 1:43:39Speaker 15: gave Aaron a halla for and I thought at first,
- 1:43:44Speaker 15: I was like, was this supposed to be like a
- 1:43:46Speaker 15: dig or?
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: Is this like in good good faith? So yeah, I
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: had to figure that out, you know, Defend.
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: The troops sounds like a pass along gift.
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: Somebody give it to him and he yeah, I don't know,
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: I don't know. Sometimes it's a little hollow bread.
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good French toast bread, very good, it's
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: excellent bread.
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought it was that's like you're a town Yes,
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: a little bit a good holla. You don't even need
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: I said, yes, I said I didn't know what it was. No,
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: I'm just kid. Yeah, yeah, Mike, is uh with you?
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: What Mike and Aaron are both with you about? Like
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: didn't you say like you were trying to figure out
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: what that was all about?
- 1:44:27Speaker 10: It?
- 1:44:27Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:44:27Speaker 15: I was like, you know, is that supposed to be
- 1:44:29Speaker 15: like a joke, like, you know, like he's just walking
- 1:44:31Speaker 15: around with a loaf of bread.
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: And I don't take Mike being no when he told
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: me it was Reese, I was like, Okay, that's definitely
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: not something.
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: Uh you do give gifts to people.
- 1:44:43Speaker 15: Uh No, Rosa is the Jewish New Year, so not
- 1:44:47Speaker 15: really not a gift giving holiday. No, But inside Baseball
- 1:44:53Speaker 15: Jewish halla on roa is round to signify like circle
- 1:45:00Speaker 15: of life.
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: We could probably talk Sandy Kofax here too, I.
- 1:45:02Speaker 15: Would think, Yeah, whereas normally hola is is just a
- 1:45:06Speaker 15: loaf of bread, like a normal loaf, but specifically on Rosashana,
- 1:45:09Speaker 15: you're you buy roundhoulas.
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: Yeah, inside Baseball Jewish. I like that?
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: All right, good stuff?
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: What else?
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: Paths today?
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: Paths today, full paths.
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: It's like Wallace's had been around too in his lone.
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: So we talked about it before you got here. Mayo's
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: press conference today. What did you glean from it?
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: What did I glean from it?
- 1:45:38Speaker 8: Well?
- 1:45:39Speaker 15: Today I felt like a big conversation and I was
- 1:45:42Speaker 15: listening to some of your Paul's shows yesterday. A big
- 1:45:45Speaker 15: conversation is just right now about some of the body
- 1:45:49Speaker 15: language of some of the players, and uh, the attitude
- 1:45:52Speaker 15: in the locker room and and that sort of thing,
- 1:45:55Speaker 15: and uh gerd I I you said, you know, I'm
- 1:45:59Speaker 15: not worried about the locker room, and I believe him
- 1:46:03Speaker 15: like I I think I do believe him at face
- 1:46:05Speaker 15: value a little bit about that, but there's definitely been
- 1:46:09Speaker 15: some finger pointing.
- 1:46:10Speaker 5: And yeah, it's just full disclosure.
- 1:46:12Speaker 15: I was talking to Pop Douglas about some of his
- 1:46:14Speaker 15: body language, because it's it's right there on the film,
- 1:46:18Speaker 15: like he's open, he's not getting the ball, he's he's
- 1:46:21Speaker 15: throwing fits. And the one thing I would say that
- 1:46:24Speaker 15: that I appreciated from the guys that I talked to
- 1:46:27Speaker 15: was there was accountability. You know, I think a lot
- 1:46:30Speaker 15: of you know, Pop Douglas flat out said to me,
- 1:46:33Speaker 15: I was tripping. I need to get control of my emotions,
- 1:46:37Speaker 15: you know that sort of thing.
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: That's a good sign because it obviously was addressed.
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: Well, it's good for both of them. Yeah, you know,
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: it's good that it was addressed and good that Pop
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: is saying yeah on me.
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:46:49Speaker 15: And I I want to also put out there that
- 1:46:53Speaker 15: with Pop, I don't think that it's frustration that he's
- 1:46:56Speaker 15: not getting the ball. I I think it's more frustration
- 1:47:00Speaker 15: and that the offense is stagged, is not doing well.
- 1:47:04Speaker 15: So a couple of the plays that he was more
- 1:47:07Speaker 15: animated on when you watch it back or third downs
- 1:47:10Speaker 15: where they didn't convert and they you know, ended up punting.
- 1:47:15Speaker 15: And I think he and Polk are just frustrated that
- 1:47:18Speaker 15: it's not clicking more than anything to do with they
- 1:47:22Speaker 15: are divas and think that they deserve the football.
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: Okay, that's just my reader.
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: What did you think of Grod's male Girod's comment about
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: it's not sustainable the way they want to even against Cincinnati.
- 1:47:37Speaker 15: Again like a truth bomb? I guess, like I we
- 1:47:39Speaker 15: we all said that coming off the games when when
- 1:47:43Speaker 15: we did the show.
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: But why why bring that out now? Why why share
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: that with the media, Why even tell your team that.
- 1:47:52Speaker 5: I don't know I have a good answer for that.
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: I I just read.
- 1:47:55Speaker 15: Okay, I feel like he's setting me up for something
- 1:47:58Speaker 15: and that No, no, I just because I hadn't really thought.
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: We talked about it.
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: Fred had a good theory.
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought. I think he's setting the stage with
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: his team that we're going to put Drake may in soon,
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: you know, with this type of offensive production. Yeah, you
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: know it's it's gonna be my call. Yeah, I've hired
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: a VP and Ben McAdoo to run this offense, but
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: at some point we're going to put in Drake.
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: May you know this? So then we took it a
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: step further, Evan, So he's telling you and then you know.
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: Andrew Callahan asked the follow up, well, what exactly isn't sustainable?
- 1:48:33Speaker 5: What we you mean specifically? And he said, you know
- 1:48:36Speaker 5: the production. You know, we're not going to win a
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: lot of games scoring less than twenty one points. I
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: think it was the line he used, Yeah, and I
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: think if you look at it, a lot of people
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: think they're gonna win this week the first time of
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: the year they've been favored. The line moved two points
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: from mine, from plus one to minus one. So a
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: lot of people, I think, feel like they're going to
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: win this week and I wont or Fred's onto something
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: here that he's sort of setting the stage like, Yeah,
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: I think we're gonna win this week too, and I
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: think it's probably gonna be similar to the way we
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: won in Week one. And even if we do, that's
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: not sustainable, right. We know we're gonna need more offense
- 1:49:16Speaker 5: to win more games because we're not gonna be able
- 1:49:18Speaker 5: to do it like we're gonna probably do it Sunday. Yeah,
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: that often it gives them a Fred just went opening
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: the door for Drake May a little bit, and yeah,
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: I've heard worse theories. Let's put it that way. Yeah,
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: I mean I said it yesterday, we all said it.
- 1:49:32Speaker 5: I shouldn't.
- 1:49:33Speaker 15: But they're on they're on this tip tightrope right now,
- 1:49:37Speaker 15: this tipping point where if it doesn't start to get
- 1:49:41Speaker 15: better on both sides of the ball, Yeah, then people
- 1:49:45Speaker 15: are gonna.
- 1:49:45Speaker 5: Start letting go of the rope.
- 1:49:47Speaker 15: They're they're gonna start letting go of the rope, or
- 1:49:48Speaker 15: they're gonna start just looking out for their own self
- 1:49:50Speaker 15: interests and try to get there so that they can
- 1:49:53Speaker 15: set themselves up for free agency or whatever the case
- 1:49:56Speaker 15: may be next offseason.
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: Right, And that's the worry to me about some of
- 1:50:00Speaker 5: the body language and thing like the receivers, you know,
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: do they start looking like, you know, I got to
- 1:50:07Speaker 5: start my career here. I can't establish myself as a
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: guy who's going to catch twenty passes. If I'm to
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: Mario Douglas, I'm going to go from you know, forty
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: some odd catches that ye have last year, Yeah, forty nine, Yeah,
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: forty nine catches to twenty nine catches and they're going
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: to say, oh, flash in the pan. Yeah, because people
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: don't look at it that closely, you know. So I
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: do wonder about that if it continues, this pressure that mounts,
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: you know, the defense. Evyan brings up a good point.
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: You know, you're I'm going to go to Evan's side
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: of the street now and I'll say it right on purpose.
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: That's time the DVOA. Yeah, right, what is it? Twenty
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: nine on offense, twenty eight on defense right now, something
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: like that. So let's not just say like this is
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: the whole Well, the defense is doing all it can.
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: The defense hasn't played well either.
- 1:50:52Speaker 15: The defense right now. The vibe that I got is
- 1:50:55Speaker 15: the defense is searching for answers.
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: Do you think that they're trying to do things that
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: maybe they aren't capable of personnel wise, and it's confusing guys.
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: I think that they're doing different things than what they
- 1:51:09Speaker 5: did with Bill.
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:51:11Speaker 15: I don't think of their wholesale changes, but I think
- 1:51:13Speaker 15: there are enough of a change that certain guys are
- 1:51:17Speaker 15: not adjusting to it, but as well as others, and
- 1:51:20Speaker 15: so the guys that are doing their jobs and are
- 1:51:23Speaker 15: adjusting to it, are getting frustrated with the guys that
- 1:51:26Speaker 15: aren't doing the job as well. Yeah, and so I'll
- 1:51:31Speaker 15: just point to two guys that I feel like this
- 1:51:33Speaker 15: is really true with Jelanie to Vai and Joshua Jay.
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: I think to Via, I don't think there's any question.
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: I think both of those guys doing too much of
- 1:51:42Speaker 5: Bentley stuff.
- 1:51:43Speaker 15: Yeah, I think those two guys I don't think are
- 1:51:45Speaker 15: being used correctly by the coaching staff, or they're being
- 1:51:50Speaker 15: asked to do different assignments. You know, they're playing a
- 1:51:52Speaker 15: lot of Cover two and Jelani to Via now is
- 1:51:55Speaker 15: being asked to cover twenty twenty five yards down the
- 1:51:58Speaker 15: field and run with the receiver is coming across the field.
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: And that's not what he's good at, you know, he's not.
- 1:52:07Speaker 15: He's good at playing around the line of scrimmage, maybe
- 1:52:09Speaker 15: at the second level, but you don't want him all
- 1:52:11Speaker 15: the way.
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: Down the field.
- 1:52:12Speaker 15: So there's a group of people that on defense are saying,
- 1:52:15Speaker 15: you know, the Devon Godshows, the Jabriel Peppers of the
- 1:52:19Speaker 15: world are saying, I'm bawling out, I'm doing my job.
- 1:52:24Speaker 15: You know, what are these guys doing. Are these guys
- 1:52:25Speaker 15: on their own program, are they taking the coaching. Is
- 1:52:29Speaker 15: the coaching an issue? I mean, I won't say who was,
- 1:52:32Speaker 15: but one of the players I was talking to was
- 1:52:35Speaker 15: asking me my opinion of what was going on with
- 1:52:38Speaker 15: the defense.
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: Thank even less of that guy. Now that's crazy. So no,
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: I think it makes sense. They probably there had to
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: be some changes. Like they're different guys, They're going to
- 1:52:51Speaker 5: do some things differently. You guys know me, I'm a
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: simple man. My biggest change is Gino Smith and Seattle
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers and the Jets brought and the Niners. They
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: didn't have gauntlets like that last year because it was
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: Zach Wilson and the Jets, and it was Mitch Trubisky
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: and the Steelers and Gardner Minshew and the cult Lake.
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: They had a lot of backup jags that they faced
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: last year. My guess is we're going to be talking
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: about how the defense bounced back on Sunday. That's my prediction.
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: Fast week, the defense will bounce back and look like
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: it did in Week one.
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: We're getting to the end of the show. But Martin
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: from London has an interesting question and it's one that
- 1:53:31Speaker 4: you know, maybe each of you can chip in on.
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: If you could each ask a question to any former
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: player or coach, and they will definitely tell you the truth.
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: Who and what would you ask if one you were
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: trying to get the biggest media scoop of the century,
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: and two it was for your own curiosity and you
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: had to keep the answer to yourself.
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: My answer is the same for both.
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: Why didn't Malcolm Butler play?
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm sure, Yeah, that's probably the biggest media scoop.
- 1:53:58Speaker 5: My personal one would be, would you if Drew didn't
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: get hurt, would you have ever made the change?
- 1:54:05Speaker 12: Oh?
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, I just personal he would say yes, no, no,
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: but he's he has to tell the truth. Tell the truth,
- 1:54:15Speaker 5: that's all the pregnice.
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: No, I think he would, like.
- 1:54:17Speaker 5: Charlie Weiss has said he didn't think that they would
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: have ever made it, like on the record to me,
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: he said that, So I just would be curious to
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: see what Bill thought.
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: I just asked Bill what he does with the sleeves
- 1:54:28Speaker 3: he cuts off?
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think the Butler can't even take it.
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: I think the Butler one I would ask if I
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: wanted the biggest media school, because I wouldn't want to
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: keep that to myself.
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: The biggest media scoop. I think is.
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: I could get the answer, but I had to keep
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: it to myself. I think it would be either asking Belichick,
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: Craft or Brady what they thought of the other. But
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: they really think that's good.
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: You know, seriously, I would like to know from Bill
- 1:54:54Speaker 3: why did it? Why did it all fall apart?
- 1:54:55Speaker 10: Here?
- 1:54:56Speaker 9: Like?
- 1:54:56Speaker 8: What what?
- 1:54:56Speaker 12: You know?
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: What I mean, real, like the real story, not but
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: full honesty, you know why they're so petty?
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: Well, but I've always said that. I think the real
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: question is how did you keep it together for twenty years?
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: Because that's unheard of on winning teams to keep things
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: together for that long and people think, oh, that's crazy,
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: you're winning. Everything's great. No, the more you win, the
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: more people want, the more they feel entitled. They've got
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: their hands out and it falls apart.
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: He must have some regrets, though, like he must have
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: some moves that he made over the last five years.
- 1:55:29Speaker 5: Yeah, Malcolm Butler, he got rid of Robbie Gold.
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: I know, regret.
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: That was his biggest regret. I think his biggest regret.
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: Oh, by the way, Matt Morrell showed it to me
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: on the way in and I was cracking up. Have
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: you watched this Aaron Hernandez thing. They have the betrayal
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: he showed it to me of when they drafted Aaron
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: Hernanaz in the war room. So there's this actor playing
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: Bill and they've got somebody playing Robert. It's it's hysterical
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: because it's so absurd.
- 1:56:00Speaker 6: It was like, it's so absurd excited.
- 1:56:03Speaker 5: It's it's like he would it's worse than draft day ten.
- 1:56:07Speaker 6: Times worse, Like what is the what is the tenure
- 1:56:10Speaker 6: tenor of the situation?
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: First of all, we've seen Bill in the draft in
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: the world. How does he dress suit and suit and tie? Yeah,
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: they've got him in the in the cutoff hoodie, which
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: one which.
- 1:56:21Speaker 5: I think he's in a suit and tie on day
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: three he's in a suit and tie in day one.
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: Hernando's got drafted in the fourth round. He would have
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: been in like who do you shirt?
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: Which don't think he was anyway, that's that's a nitpick.
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: But but the way they portrayed Bill bad and oh,
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: it's like it's so it's so cringe worse.
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: It's better or worse than he was in the Dynasty
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: at that moment. Worse that that's saying something.
- 1:56:51Speaker 15: This was more of like an acting like it was
- 1:56:53Speaker 15: almost like a cartoon version of Bill, Like, imagine, yeah,
- 1:56:58Speaker 15: if you were like somebody that wasn't us, that had him,
- 1:57:01Speaker 15: been around him and you know, press conferences and someff
- 1:57:04Speaker 15: like that, you watch match showed it to me.
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: I had to keep pulling it up for people.
- 1:57:09Speaker 4: You got to see it.
- 1:57:10Speaker 15: If you I'm sorry, what, yeah, imagine not out That's
- 1:57:16Speaker 15: what this is not again, Matt, I've seen it. Imagine
- 1:57:19Speaker 15: somebody that knows thinks he knows what Bill would act like,
- 1:57:22Speaker 15: but doesn't actually trying to.
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: Like, I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: This is what I think an NFL you know, on
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: the way, you gotta know, you gotta watch, you gotta
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: see what anyway, I just thought that just came to mind. So, uh,
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: four callers, Okay, I'll do two more calls. We got
- 1:57:40Speaker 4: three minutes, so you got to make it cook. This
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: is our version of Paul's Lightning Round on the other show,
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: Daniel and California.
- 1:57:47Speaker 5: What's Up?
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: Dan, Danny California, Daniel Kelly, Dan, Daniel, my brother.
- 1:57:52Speaker 5: I put my neck out for you guys. Even they
- 1:57:57Speaker 5: just assume Fred was going to blow him off.
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: Ryan and Virgine Ryan.
- 1:58:02Speaker 16: All right, how you guys doing good? All right, longtime listener,
- 1:58:06Speaker 16: first time caller.
- 1:58:08Speaker 20: I love the show.
- 1:58:08Speaker 16: I've been listening for five years, which is a lot
- 1:58:11Speaker 16: more my lift than that any of yours.
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: But that's all right, you're a fan.
- 1:58:17Speaker 16: I do want to say that this at this point
- 1:58:21Speaker 16: in the season, I expected them to be one and three.
- 1:58:23Speaker 16: They didn't win the game that I thought they were
- 1:58:25Speaker 16: gonna we're gonna win. I thought they were gonna win Seattle.
- 1:58:27Speaker 16: But I'm happy they went in Cincy. But the reason
- 1:58:30Speaker 16: why I can tell we're screwed for this season is
- 1:58:33Speaker 16: because we haven't heard the classic fretism of fourteen and
- 1:58:36Speaker 16: three is still on the table. And it's because we
- 1:58:38Speaker 16: haven't heard this that I know there's no faith in
- 1:58:42Speaker 16: that room.
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: But I just wanted to say four and three, Yeah,
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: I think that's actually the future, Ryan. I just and
