- Alex Skinner: Welcome to another edition of the Unsexy Podcast where we talk about the unsexy side of everything. And this is a very unsexy subject. The reason that I know it's an unsexy subject is I have seen people post about this on LinkedIn. How to work out while traveling. I saw someone do a post where they took a picture of their athletic gear, their shoes, shirt, shorts, what they're going to use. And the guy was like, I pack this. Aaron Skinner: You Alex Skinner: Every single time that I travel somewhere and I never use it. And since he's like, so I should free up space and not take this stuff anymore because I never actually work out while traveling. And that was one of the most motivating posts I've ever seen because I do the exact same thing. But instead of giving up like this guy did, I went, if I pack it, I have to use it. So that goes for, ⁓ goes for everything that I take and it's made packing extremely easy. Aaron Skinner: You Yes. Alex Skinner: So that's where I'm coming from right now. That's probably been for like the last eight months to a year since I've seen that post where I'm just like, if I take it, ⁓ I'm going to, I'm going to work out. ⁓ How do you do it, Aaron? Aaron Skinner: It's funny because I pack it so I use it, just like you said. Like I'm like, all right, I'm gonna bring my workout shoes and my workout clothes. And I wouldn't say it's every time I pack it that I work out every single day that I'm like on vacation or on a trip or whatever it is. But I think it's just one of those things like either you're gonna do it or you're not gonna do it, which I was like, yeah, that's how it works. But like, I think if you just tell like, I'm gonna set either I'm gonna set an alarm or I'm gonna set this time aside for, and this is other thing too, like you don't have to get a two hour workout in. Like I don't have to match what I'm doing at my home gym at whatever gym is at the hotel. Cause like 99.9 % of the time it's gonna be way worse unless you're like in some really nice resort. Cause like I was just thinking like in Vegas, we were in Vegas. Yeah, we were in Vegas and we went to one and it was like, was like, holy crap, this is a really nice. This is a really nice setup. But other than that, you're to have like the very basics. And I think it may be a little bit of research because I do that as well. like, all right, I want to see a picture of the gym at this. Alex Skinner: Or like Vegas. Yeah. Aaron Skinner: know, Fairfield in and Nebraska or whatever it is, just like kind of see what they have. And then I'll mentally make kind of like a workout routine. And I also purposely don't make it really long. I'm like, all right, I'm going to go in there. I'm going to do, you know, chest and triceps for 30 minutes. I'm just going to work really hard for 30 minutes that I'm in and out. That way I'm not, you know, ruining the vacation by exercising. But yeah, that's, are the kinds of things. I think if you just do a little bit of preparing for that besides bringing the gear. ⁓ It helps a lot. That way you already know. I think a lot of people have those built in excuses like I'm gonna go and it's gonna be awesome. And then they're like, that's crazy. The gym didn't have every piece of equipment I'm used to. So I guess I can't work out. So if you don't do that and you can kind of just, cause they all have pictures, the internet exists. You can go to Google and just be like, hey, show me pictures of the gym. of wherever I'm staying. And then you just make a simple plan. Don't overdo it is the main thing and just know like, I'm just gonna get in there. I wanna be able to say I worked out today and you'll feel great. Alex Skinner: Yeah, for me, it's about making sure that you are fulfilling whatever goals that you have going on. So planning ahead, like Aaron said, is going to be the main thing I'm going to bring up or ring again. The reason that I bring that up is it gives you like, have to burn this many calories. You have to burn this many active calories today if you want to hit your ⁓ activity goal for the day. So because I have that nagging at me in a positive way, even though I use the word nag. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Reminding. Alex Skinner: It really does help significantly. I was actually, traveled with Aaron to California twice. What was, I guess it doesn't matter if it feels like it was both in the exact same month, but yeah, you're right. was the, was September and then January and we stayed at the same exact place. I was comm I was committed in January. Like that for everyone who knows my November, 2025 is when I started going. We're recording this in May of 2026. Aaron Skinner: Wedding funeral. Alex Skinner: And so January, I worked out every single day in a very, very, very crappy gym at whatever that Marriott is in Folsom. Yeah. So what do I do whenever it's something that is really, really crappy? Like it looks like we're doing a lot of cardio today, a lot of cardio on this weekend. The other thing that is other exercise that you've heard me talk about before that is great for like literally any place that you can go is you can bring your band Aaron Skinner: Fairfield. Alex Skinner: with you. space or whatever is P90X. So if you still want to get in and you're just worried, get in a good exercise and you're worried about like what the gym setup is going to be like Aaron mentioned, if you're going to Vegas, you're probably going to be fine. Every Vegas, like nice Vegas hotel that I've been to has really good gyms and they have a lot of equipment for you and like a lot of space too. So you'll be fine in those types of areas. But if you're going to the Fairfield ⁓ in Folsom or whatever it may be, the Aaron Skinner: Yes. Yeah. Alex Skinner: P90X is what I end up doing because a lot of that is body weight training. They do have some weight training, but most places have like the five to 50 pound weights that I'm usually using for P90X. So those would be my two things. Like the simple, the simple thing is going to be cardio. Second would be P90X. And third is just going to be like, I'm going to be doing some pushups, doing some pushups and just, just like something to like move my body. ⁓ and so I could like do some squats so you can get like a set to do some Superman so I can get the back engaged, like, Aaron Skinner: Yes. Mm. Yes. Alex Skinner: Just do the research ahead of time ⁓ and you're going to be fine. I think the hardest thing for me, so I'll ask you this question is like, how do you like plan your workouts? It's like we're doing this in the morning, we're doing this in the evening, I can't drink tonight because I still need to work out in the morning, I can't be hungover so I have to wake up at 6 a.m. Like how do go about that? Aaron Skinner: ⁓ Well, after listening to our podcast, I don't drink anymore. ⁓ No, where, yay. ⁓ No, it's always the morning. Well, I'm just a morning person anyway, especially when it comes to, I like just getting, like, it sounds about, I just want to get it out of the way. But it's like, you have way more, you have less excuses the earlier it is. So the later you're planning on doing something, the likelihood of like, Alex Skinner: It works. The podcast works. Aaron Skinner: either like a friend or family member be like, hey, you're in town or whatever, let's go do this or go do that becomes higher. And it gives you another excuse like, oh, it's gonna work out. But then that guy wanted to go get lunch and you know, I didn't want to get all sweaty right before I just ate and I don't want to do it right after I'm full. So I would just do it in the morning. Like I'll do it in the morning most of the time. And I don't wake, I don't have it set alarm unless I. Let's say have an activity that I have to get to. But my point of, don't set an alarm so I can go to the gym. I'm just like, all right, I wake up naturally kind of early anyway, and then I'll go and knock that out. The best that I did it was when I was in Vegas, when I went out for a concert, and we worked out every day there. And it helped because I was with a buddy, and it helps when I'm like, hey dude, I wanna go to the gym every morning. do you wanna go? And if you have someone else like, yeah, let's do it. You can, when the excuses start to kind of pile up like, no man, remember we're gonna go. And then you just go. But I'd say the morning is probably the easiest for me just cause you have way less excuses and less distractions to be able to take you away from your goal. Yeah, that's how I do it. How do you do it? Alex Skinner: the And then look for like opportunities too of I would call like exercise adjacent activities. Aaron and I were talking like before, ⁓ before the podcast started where he was at a, at a concert or at a festival over the weekend and it's a mosh pit. ⁓ he's dancing, moving around. Like, trust me, if he was wearing an aura ring, it's going to pick up, like you're doing some sort of activity right now and it's going to start tracking that calorie burn as well. So you have those other adjacent activities. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Yes. Alex Skinner: When we were in California for a funeral, Aaron and I both, there was like downtime after the funeral, independently of one another, did probably like the exact same walk, but like at different times. So did you walk down to like the Chevron in and out area? So him and I did the exact same, like, all right, he did his walk whenever he did it. I did my walk whenever I did it, where it was just like, all right, cool, I'm gonna go get. Aaron Skinner: Yes. Yep. Yep. Alex Skinner: I'm not going to be sedentary. Yeah, I'm not going to be sedentary for like this entire time. So don't be hard on yourself where it's like I have to get in the gym and I have to do this and to do that. Like if you know you're already like we're going rock climbing. It's like there's your like there's your your workout for the day. You don't. Yeah, you don't have to. You don't have to always like be in a gym to like be be doing these exercises. If like I know you're I'm going to be swimming for two hours because we're going out on a pontoon and then we're going to be swimming like swimming is a really, really great exercise. So plan. Aaron Skinner: Some steps in. Yes. That's probably good exercise. Yeah. Yeah. Alex Skinner: It's almost not like you're even planning, just be aware of like, ⁓ okay, like, cause I find it the hardest workout or like being consistent working out whenever I'm traveling is if there's any drinking involved like the night before, because then you're so lethargic in the morning. And then two, it's on, how do you say it? Like. Like these are supposed to be like a trip to Hawaii like as they like this is supposed to be a relaxing vacation. We're going to the beach and stuff like that. But with the trip to Hawaii example, like. We're going to the beach every day and I'm snorkeling, which is a which is a form of exercise, so I just want to make sure, but most of time. Aaron Skinner: Relaxing. Yes. Yes. Yep. And you're tracking a bunch of your stuff to the beach. I know all of our, in our audience have been to Hawaii a bunch of times. Like you tend to have to park farther away and then you're walking a long distance with a bunch of shit to go there and you're walking through a lot of sand. ⁓ So there's... Alex Skinner: Farmer Carries. Aaron Skinner: Yes, exactly. So there's lots of, I mean, there's still lots of exercising that you're going to be doing. while you're talking, I was starting, I was like, is there a vacation I've gone on where I just sit around all the time? I don't, I think there's always some sort of activity that we're doing. We're not the vacation type. So probably people would hate to go on vacation with me where we just sit around the pool and just hang out all day every day. That's just not kind of our style. We like to go out and do activities and have a good time. I mean, there might be a day where we kind of like half the day, we're just gonna chill at the pool and just relax. But even those days we'll still go out and walk around later or whatever it is. Alex Skinner: But those are also the easiest days to do like the gym workout. Cause like, you know, if you already have the plan of like, Hey, we're just sitting around the pool all day. It's like, all right, cool. You're going to have time in the morning. And if you're just at the pool all day, I, I, I, one of those things like, just don't understand how anyone can do it. Even like when we go to the beach, like we're there for six hours, like we're there for like two to three hours, get a snorkel session. It starts to get hot. All right. Aaron Skinner: Sure, yes, yes. Yep. Yeah. Alex Skinner: Let's go do something else. Let's go. Let's go get some food. Let's go do whatever it is. So I've never understood the people who can just drink for 24 hours, like at a pool. Like I've never like, sorry, this is getting a little off topic. We went to Vegas and we got like one of those pool pass things that's supposed to last for like six hours. We were there for like 30 minutes because apparently my friends aren't those types of people either. We went there for 30 minutes. I think everyone had like maybe like a beer or two. And then we're like, Aaron Skinner: Yes. ⁓ huh. Alex Skinner: All right, what's next? Aaron Skinner: We good? Yeah. Alex Skinner: Yep. All right. Sounds good. And then like we left, it was like, well, that was $150. Not exactly well spent. But anyways, I just don't understand that type. But I'm a lot like you, Aaron, where I'm I try to just knock it out in the morning. And then if I know that we already have activities planned, I just am counting those as like, all right, as long as I hit my act, especially like while traveling, as long as I hit my activity goal on a aura ring. I'm just like, I have done I have done what is what is necessary. But I do. Like want to get in some sort of like resistance training because I don't want my because a lot of like what we're talking about here is cardio and it's going to be a lot of like your legs are going to and so you don't forget about your upper body everybody. Aaron Skinner: Well, the other thing too is like, you know you're going on vacation. So don't do one of your rest days right before your vacation. Like do all of your workouts. And this is what I did for this past week. This past week and the Fest was like a four day festival. I usually do around, you know, it's not exactly, but it's like around two days a week of rest. It doesn't matter. So we'll just say it's two days. And so I just made sure I worked out up until the day that I left. ⁓ Alex Skinner: Also true. Aaron Skinner: that ⁓ I didn't have any rest days. So I had two built-in rest days already for that trip I was going on. ⁓ But even with that, we're still going to rock, like rock concert after rock concert, getting in there, jumping around, having a good time. So the cardio was still there, but as far as the resistance training goes, ⁓ I technically had two rest days anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal. So kind of plan it out that way as well. Alex Skinner: Well, it's a time thing too, right? Like, so you're going for three days, right? Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and then coming back Sunday if things. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. was actually Thursday. It was Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. We came back on Monday. Alex Skinner: So you have, well, though it's really, it's probably three days though, right? Cause I mean, depending on what time you leave on Thursday, like, cause you could probably do your workout Thursday morning before you leave. Unless you leave super early. Aaron Skinner: four days. So we left, well, I mean, if we're getting really, if we're gonna do like the weeds of this, we left Wednesday because we, the thing started Thursday and we didn't want to like, so we Wednesday night. So I still worked out on Wednesday. Alex Skinner: I'll see you at Wednesday night. Okay. Aaron Skinner: because all of this was, again, on purpose, because I was just like, I need to make sure I get as many hard sessions in before I leave. So I made sure I got a session on Wednesday. Then we left that evening, got into town Thursday. I'd like, technically, Thursday, Friday, I could have just taken that off normally. ⁓ and that would have been fine. But it's just, it's also really getting to like the minutia of this. Like, am I worried that I lost any muscle because I didn't work out hard for like two days? No, I'm not worried about that. But if you get in that, if you have that mentality, like, well, whatever. then, but today I went to the gym. Like I got right back into it and that's how it has to be. Like, all right, you had your vacation, great. Just don't let that vacation carry past your vacation. Get right back into the regular schedule. Alex Skinner: Well, I was asking about that, like specificity, because I think there's a lot of times where it's like just a weekend warrior thing. like, for example, using the things we did where it's like, we left Friday afternoon and then came back Sunday. that's not that type of travel. Like if you can get one session in like, or just use your rest days, like Aaron was talking about, you like, don't have to worry about it. This is going to be for longer type of travel that you're going on, which it for business travel, you're looking at like three days. So maybe you can just use those three days as your rest days. Aaron Skinner: Hmm? Yep. ⁓ yeah. Yes. Alex Skinner: but on longer trips or like a week or longer, it is going to be important that you have some sort of thing planned out. as I've been talking about this, like the more I think about it, and making sure you do have some resistance training in there. Cause like, if you're gone for like 10 days, have something that is planned because it can be really easy, even if you are swimming every day those 10 days to like get out of the habit, like Aaron mentioned. ⁓ I've just... Aaron Skinner: Yes. Alex Skinner: Vacations have killed a lot of things that I have, like a lot of health things that I've had going on. So this is a very passionate subject for me. Like each time that we like go to Hawaii, I always come back and Just like, you know, I'm going to have some my ties. I'm going to have some. What are their popular drinks? I think I just get like my ties while I'm there. ⁓ Anyway, like I get those drinks and it's just like that drinking then carries over to like when I get back. I'm just like, I do like how this feels. ⁓ And then you also and then that just perpetuates on itself. So that's why I'm incredibly. I don't know if this is the appropriate time to like or the appropriate podcast to talk about this on, but. Aaron Skinner: Pina coladas. Peta colitis. Yeah Yes, ⁓ yeah, 100%. Alex Skinner: When you're traveling, how do you do nutrition? Aaron Skinner: That's so, I literally was like, do you wanna talk about that it's on this podcast or like a completely separate one? Because I have like, we can, you wanna talk about it right now? Alex Skinner: Cause like, we got time. think this is, I think just having them both like how to work out and then how to eat. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. So, I've done this the past several trips. ⁓ we'll, the first day I get there, ⁓ like the first morning, I'll go to like Walmart or whatever grocery store they have, and I'll just get all of my protein snacks. So I'll get like protein drinks and protein bars and protein whatever. This is, and I use this as kind of like a cheat thing too, because there's so many like good tasting protein. options that I normally wouldn't do because they don't have the best macros but there's they're still better than whatever and so I'll just get a ton of that kind of stuff so I had our refrigerator I should send you the picture so we can we could put it put it on the whatever and ⁓ it's just like a bunch of protein shakes I get a bite energy drinks I have a lot of energy drinks ⁓ energy drinks and then that's that's the main thing because if if what I used to do on vacation was I would do the same thing. I'd go to a grocery store and just get a ton of like awesome snacks. Cause I'm on vacation. I can eat whatever I want. Doritos, like peanut butter ⁓ &Ms, like every, like everything. And then I was talking to my buddy when I had this conversation while we were out there. I was like, I purposely don't get those because I just tell myself whatever I'm buying here, I'm going to eat at the hotel. So if I have good options, Alex Skinner: Doritos, yeah. Cookies, yeah. Aaron Skinner: I will eat those good options. just, just, it takes out that, temptations because I would 100 % if I just bought those, but I won't eat a lot of them, I would have eaten them all. Whatever candy or cookies, I would have 100 % eaten them all just because of like, just, I'm not, the waste mentality and like my, like, Alex Skinner: waste mentality. Aaron Skinner: You're just like, I'm on vacation. It's so easy to justify things when you're on vacation. Like, I'm on vacation. I can have this, whatever. It's gonna be fine. Yeah. Me, that's who I'm killing. ⁓ Alex Skinner: I'm just gonna kill a guy. Yeah. Yeah. Is what? ⁓ that's I stole that from Jim Gaffigan. That's that's a it's my birthday. Why can't I have sex on my birthday? I gotta pay for sex. Aaron Skinner: gotta pay for sex on my birthday. And so that is literally exactly how I do it. I mean, I'll grab like some ⁓ fruit and stuff too, like all like bananas and apples. And it sounds really boring, but at the concert itself, like obviously I'm not bringing a bunch of protein drinks with me, although I did bring protein ⁓ bars with me. ⁓ Like I'll eat whatever at the concert. I mean, I'm not eating like a ton, but like that's how I can justify eating. healthy at the hotel before we leave and when we come back. ⁓ But yeah, just take the temptation away. Just tell yourself, whatever I'm getting and I bring it back to the hotel, I'm gonna eat. So choose wisely. Alex Skinner: I take everything from home. So like I have my protein shakes that I will take, but then I also like bring protein powder. I used, don't use pre-workout anymore, but I'll bring my, I'll bring enough scoops of. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Yep. Mm-hmm. Alex Skinner: creatine powder with me, enough fiber powder because I don't get enough, I'm close to getting enough fiber in my diet, but I need to supplement that a little bit. So I scoop all of those into bags for the amount of days that we are going to be gone. And then I have, I usually take about three to four, that's not true, about one to two, like bottled protein drinks, like as like a Justin case. I drink those first. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. Do you just put those in your, do you put those in your checked luggage? Yeah. Okay. Are you ever worried about they're explode? Alex Skinner: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I always take like, one nice thing about the credit card that I have is like, have free check bags. And so I'm always like, I'm gonna take the biggest bag possible and I'm going to fill it up with all of this stuff. Because similar to you, like this stuff is going to go to the place that I'm staying. The bottled forms of things are for when I'm out and need to make sure that I'm hitting like my macro number. I usually take like one out with me per visit. Aaron Skinner: Yes, yes, so do I. Yes. Alex Skinner: And then as far as like non supplement. type stuff. just watch what I, still get all of the good stuff. Like I still order every single thing. But now if you remember our famous trip to Las Vegas where we tried to hit like four restaurants, five restaurants a day and like we're all like dead by restaurant number three and we still have another restaurant to go. I now have a rule where it's only two restaurants per day. And that has been, it's been game changing. ⁓ Maybe you'll throw in like a, ⁓ Aaron Skinner: Yes. Yes. Great. Yes. Alex Skinner: like a bakery in there as well. So like a bakery and then two other meals, but like meal meal, there's only two. And I don't really worry too much about like the track, like I try to get like estimates of the tracking for those things, but I'm not like a, I don't know why I keep doing it. Like I'm not super anal retentive where it's just like, I need to know what every single thing is in this. Like. Aaron Skinner: Yes. Yeah, yeah. You're not bringing a scale with you. Yeah. Yes. Alex Skinner: I kind of know what the everything weighs and a lot of stuff I'm getting steak, especially if they tell you what it weighs anyways for you. Because I think it's like we're talking about this. This sounds like so unfun. Aaron Skinner: Yes. Alex Skinner: Like what, like all of the things that we're talking about, like, yeah, we're not talking, yeah, exactly. It's like, it is all of like the unsexy things, but like, we're talking about the things that people usually don't think about that, like, you know how long it takes me to actually pack all of my like protein powder, all those powders I just said, like five minutes. Like it does not take me that long to get all that, probably less than that, to get it all packed away. And it makes a huge difference, keeps me more full. And it allows me to not. Aaron Skinner: I mean... Yeah, yes. Alex Skinner: Because the other thing is just like what Aaron was talking about, like, I'm just going to snack on a bunch of crappy food all day. It's like, oh, good. I got my protein. I'm a little bit more full now. And so I can make it to like whenever the next meal is. And honestly, with two meals per day, like there's never a time where I'm like, I'm hungry. Aaron Skinner: Well, especially since you are set yourself up to your body is used to the amount of calories you're eating on a regular basis anyway. So you're probably, when you're going on vacation, you're probably going over what you normally eat. So you're going to stay fuller longer just because you've primed your body for that situation, right? Yeah. And so that's, mean, but like to your point though, like this is what annoys me. I'm assuming that anyone listening to this or watching this on YouTube, Alex Skinner: Yeah, 100%. Bunch of losers. Aaron Skinner: Or like, but they're watching this because of the title where we talk about how you, ⁓ you know, how do you stay fit while you're on vacation? So that's how you do it. And like you said, Alex, it takes you five minutes. Cause I do that too. I bring all my creatine. I don't bring my protein powders, but I bring, I'll bring protein bars ⁓ and some other stuff that I have from the house. And just like, just a little, a little thought that goes into that, like goes a long way. And if anyone's looking like, wow, that doesn't sound like a vacation. I'd want to do it. Like that's why you're fat. Like, I'm sorry. That's why you're out of shape. Like if you, if you don't have the, the, if you think this is stupid and this like, you can't have fun still on a vacation because you have to have a little bit of forethought before you're, you're going on vacation, then okay. And I can say that because that was me for 20 years. Like, I just don't know. can't lose weight because I never put the time into thinking about this stuff. And again, it's a minimal amount of time, but these little things that you do add up, and if they become habits, you don't really think about it. Like when I'm packing, I'm just like, all right, I gotta grab my creatine, I gotta grab this, this, and this, and I'm gonna have it. I bring my little blender bottle with me, and I bring the fiber as well. it's just... If you want to be healthy and you want to stay healthy, you have to have these like kind of healthy habits. It doesn't mean you can't have fun on vacation. We're still having a great time. I still had a great time. I still ate. I did not eat great when I was at the concert. I didn't. And the concert I to in Vegas, like we still went to restaurants that weren't, that were great, not great health-wise, but I'll still do it. But yeah, it's just, I think these little hacks that we do that I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with. I'm sure there's other people that do this exactly. But if you're saying to yourself, that sounds like a lot of work. And man, these guys are real losers going on vacation. I'd never want a vacation. Good, I don't want a vacation with either, fuck you. And so like and subscribe. Alex Skinner: Yeah. And it's really not that, it's really not that hard. Right. It's like, it's honestly like, haven't been doing this for like a long period of time, but like, it's really not that complicated. Yeah. It's. Aaron Skinner: It's not, it's not, it's not. for like, and the payoff from it is so great for the amount of energy you have to put in it, which is just like nothing. I mean, my wife gets jealous because when I packed for a trip, I mean, we were gone for five days and I packed in, I don't know, 10 minutes, probably less than that. Like everything, my clothes, everything. then my wife takes two hours. And so it's like it. It doesn't take that long. It's not that hard. And the more excuses you come up with with why you don't want to do it is why you're going to stay unhealthy and not hit your fitness goals. Like it's just laziness is all it is. Alex Skinner: It's like Aaron said, he's it for 20 years and I just want to bring up that famous Las Vegas. Like we were probably putting away four to 5,000 calories a day based on like, like based on the food that we're eating. That was for like three days. So you think you're going to come back. Aaron Skinner: Easy. Easily. And then we'd come home, Alex, we'd come home, Alex, and then we'd have at the house we were right. Well, yes. Alex Skinner: All those snacks that you're talking about, like we need more. Yeah. So you go to those four to five restaurants and then you're eating the cookies from Costco. You're eating whole milk. You're eating or drinking whole milk, I guess. ⁓ Like the Doritos, like I always think of like, like we always have ⁓ the purple bag of purple bag of Doritos. And that like the irony too of like. Aaron Skinner: Yes. Yeah, this sweet chili, best flavor. Alex Skinner: I don't know why I'm on that trip. It always like just makes me laugh like, you know how we've eaten at five restaurants or going to get at five restaurants? I think I'm going to make myself a turkey sandwich. I'm going to have myself a turkey sandwich right now too. Aaron Skinner: Yeah, I know. But that's the thing, it just like, it's there. If it's there, you're gonna, cause I'm not a, I'm not a, an emotional leader. I'm not a, like I get depressed so I go eat. I'm a board eater. And so if I'm somewhere and I'm just watching TV, I just snack, just snack, just snack. And all those foods are designed to not satiate you. So you could eat a whole bag of Doritos and even if you're full, just keep eating them. And that's how, you have to know what your weaknesses are and like, eliminate those weaknesses when you're on vacation. And so my weakness is I love to snack. And so because of that, like, you know, I had some beef jerky and that's, dude, you cannot snack on a lot of beef jerky for a long time if you're not hungry or yeah, you're not hungry. ⁓ yeah, so, but if I would have had a bag of Doritos this past weekend, we would have crushed it. Like we gotta, we gotta go get more Doritos, ran out. And so just eliminate those temptations. It's really... it's really not that hard. And you can, again, still have a great time. You could still go to good restaurants, but don't kill yourself. Like when I left, because I'm trying to, I'm like, when I'm working with my coach, I'm trying to like bulk slowly. And so when I left, I was 206, I think when I left, and I came back and I was like, I'm 209. And I know that 209 is all just like the, all the carb load and glycogen and everything that's just in my muscles. I'll probably weigh, What's today? Tuesday? By Thursday I'll probably be 206 again. And so I'm not worried about it. But if I would have done like our Vegas trip that we did, honestly, dude, I probably would have weighed like 218 pounds when I got back. I know that's not just fat. I didn't gain 12 pounds of fat in a weekend, but I would be starting at a much higher and then it would take me a week and a half to get back to 206 as opposed to, oh, was, I... gained three pounds. know I will be at 206 again by Thursday. Alex Skinner: And then ask yourself why you want those things too. because to me, it always goes back to that, like in our alcohol episode that we're talking about where it's like, what is the reason behind why you're doing it? Like, why is the reason that you want the Doritos? Like Aaron mentioned, like, cause if we're sitting here watching TV, I just want to be doing something as opposed to just like just watching TV. There's a reason that so many people now just binge watch shows while working and stuff like that, because it feels less Aaron Skinner: Yes. Alex Skinner: like a waste of time, like, ⁓ I am multitasking. So eating is one of those multitasking things. So just ask yourself the question, why do I want this? What is the, is this to, is this for fuel? Is this because I just want to pass the time doing something? Is this because I have an addiction? Like just go through, like figure out like the reason behind it. And if it's a bad reason. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Yes. Alex Skinner: stop doing it. I guess it's as simple as that because like for me, like the drinking thing is like what airs like it's like it was it. I do like the way that it feels but it's also I like I like I like doing something like I like having a drink. I love having it's the exact reason. Honestly, it's the reason that I did pre workout. It's like ⁓ it's a morning habit. It's a morning habit. ⁓ get my pre workout in. I haven't been using pre workout now for like Aaron Skinner: It's... just sipping on something. Yes. Alex Skinner: 30 or 40 days, like just randomly I stopped doing it. ⁓ and I've been fine. Like I can still do my workouts. I still have the energy cause I'm carving up instead of like doing that. And it's fine to have caffeine. I'm not like anti caffeine or anything. It's like the reason I was using it was not for any benefit except for I want to be doing something in the morning, which is drinking that drink. And that's actually helped me curb the alcohol too, because those two things go hand in hand. Where it's like, just something in my hand, something in my hand. Aaron Skinner: Yes. Yes. Yep. Yes. Yes. Yes. ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And like, I think the whole point of this is just like, just set yourself up for success. And by doing these little tiny things, that's all you have to do. If you don't do this, you're just setting yourself up for failure or just setting yourself up for just continuing to be where you're at. And so if you, it's what I said in one of my videos, like you can't expect big changes with little effort. So you need to be putting in the effort in order to get to get those results that you're looking for. don't think that it's weird that we bring our own creatine and bring our own protein powders or bring our own stuff because it's not, it's not weird. We are just trying to set ourselves up for the best possible outcome when we are going on vacation while maintaining, like while still having a good time. And so that's the secret people. Set yourself up for success. That's all it is. Whether you're packing all of your your ⁓ supplements and your healthy snacks or you're researching what's at the gym, researching like, right, they don't have this, this is, all right, this is what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna do my P90X or I'm gonna bring resistance bands or I'm just gonna do a ⁓ dumbbell focused exercise. it's always better than nothing. That's my thing too. It's it's way better than not doing anything at all than doing something. So at least do something while you're on vacation. Alex Skinner: Yep. And it's similar to how we end a lot of podcasts, like, and if you mess up, that's fine. There's going to be like slip ups and stuff like that. It's what's more important. It's less important focusing on the mistake and more important getting back into whatever the habit is. So it's like, ⁓ I missed a day. Make sure you hit it the next day. ⁓ as opposed to just, I'm just going to let this stick continue on for a long period of time to the point that I'm out of the habit again. Aaron Skinner: Yeah, don't let that be the catalyst for you falling back into your old ways. just be, yeah, you mess up. And no, again, you should be able to have a good time. You should be able to eat whatever. We're not saying like, pack your, you need to pack your, ⁓ what are those, your, yeah, your like, your, ⁓ what are the package meals cost? Your prep, your meal prep, like, all right. And some people do that. And you wanna know what? I would be like, Alex Skinner: tuna cans of tuna. Yeah. Aaron Skinner: I guess I just, don't judge people with that. Like if they want to do that, that's great too. But like, we're not saying you have to meal prep the entire time, but if you want to do that, I mean, you're better than I am when it comes to going on vacation and being healthy. But just those little things make a giant difference. And that's a great point, Alex. Like don't let the vacation lead you to just going right back, like down the wrong road of an unhealthy lifestyle. Alex Skinner: I can't. I can't. Yeah. Yep. Thank you everyone for listening to us today. ⁓ We'll talk with you all next week. Go be unsexy.
