- 0:21Speaker 1: as well. Their telephone number six eight five three five
- 0:24Speaker 1: forty three forty three. That's five three five forty three
- 0:28Speaker 1: forty three, and their man with the Plan, mister Andrew Larson,
- 0:31Speaker 1: joins us this morning. Andrew, how you doing this week?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Good?
- 0:35Speaker 3: I would not go so far as to say I
- 0:36Speaker 3: have a plan. I'm pretty good at winging things.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you've got you've got a great team around you
- 0:45Speaker 1: to uh to do that. Yes, and that's uh. We're
- 0:48Speaker 1: going to talk this week about about roofing, but specifically
- 0:51Speaker 1: roofing systems. And this was something that as a homeowner
- 0:56Speaker 1: I had learned that there is a difference between just
- 1:00Speaker 1: having putting a new roof on and actually having a
- 1:03Speaker 1: roof system. And the other thing that I know about you, Andrew,
- 1:06Speaker 1: is you are not one to sit still. You're not
- 1:10Speaker 1: one just to simply be satisfied. You're always looking for
- 1:13Speaker 1: for improvements, better options, and and better things for folks,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and when it comes to roofing, that is definitely. I
- 1:22Speaker 1: know you've got you've got some other areas that you're
- 1:24Speaker 1: passionate about, but it seems to me that that roofing
- 1:27Speaker 1: seems to be the most near and dear to your heart.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about some of the options
- 1:32Speaker 1: with largstome services and specifically when we talk about about
- 1:36Speaker 1: roofing roofing systems and something new on that on that front,
- 1:40Speaker 1: isn't there Andrew.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Well, you know there is, and it's it's not something
- 1:45Speaker 3: like mind blowing and some sort of new product.
- 1:49Speaker 2: But you know, here's the thing.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Being in this business for as many years as I have,
- 1:55Speaker 3: when it comes to residential roofing, asphalt roofing.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Is where it is.
- 2:01Speaker 3: It's where it is where we live, or all over
- 2:05Speaker 3: the United States for that matter. I have been to
- 2:07Speaker 3: other countries and not a lot of asphalt roofs are
- 2:11Speaker 3: put on anywhere else in the world. They really look
- 2:15Speaker 3: to products that last a lot longer, and I would
- 2:23Speaker 3: say just doing asphalt, I almost just call them replacement roofs.
- 2:31Speaker 3: We're always trying to do something better or do it
- 2:35Speaker 3: the best way that we possibly can, because you know, honestly,
- 2:39Speaker 3: I hate it when we put a roof on and
- 2:43Speaker 3: a couple of years later it gets hit with hail
- 2:45Speaker 3: or something like that, it has to be replaced. We
- 2:47Speaker 3: tear them off, we throw them in a landfill, redo it.
- 2:49Speaker 3: There's a lot of a lot of contractors out there
- 2:52Speaker 3: that love that. It's like guaranteed repeat business. So what
- 2:56Speaker 3: we've done is we've really tried to make this something proprietary.
- 3:02Speaker 3: When it comes to our roofing system and the Ultimate
- 3:05Speaker 3: Roofing Solution by Larson and Larson Kini Home Services.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Is something that.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Over the past fifteen to twenty years, we've looked at
- 3:15Speaker 3: the way things are done. We've looked at the way
- 3:18Speaker 3: roofing manufacturers require, require re sorry require their roofs to
- 3:24Speaker 3: be done. We've also looked at the way the codes
- 3:27Speaker 3: are written. And we've heard this time and time again,
- 3:30Speaker 3: like you know, we had our roof done and it's
- 3:32Speaker 3: leaking and it was all done to code. Okay, well,
- 3:35Speaker 3: we can talk about codes. I mean codes to me,
- 3:39Speaker 3: for the most part, when it comes to stuff like roofing,
- 3:43Speaker 3: are almost bare minimum. It's like bare minimum way it
- 3:47Speaker 3: should be done. Hopefully it works out. I'm take it.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Where we live, for instance, we have we have temperatures
- 3:55Speaker 3: that get up to one hundred degrees, temperatures that get
- 3:58Speaker 3: down to thirty below, and if.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Your roof is over a six pitch.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Technically, by code you don't even have to have an
- 4:07Speaker 3: ice and water.
- 4:08Speaker 2: On your roof, which is insane to me. No ice
- 4:12Speaker 2: and water in the valley, no ice and water at
- 4:14Speaker 2: the eaves.
- 4:14Speaker 3: There are actually builders out there that will specifically build
- 4:18Speaker 3: their homes to those specifications just so they can put
- 4:21Speaker 3: the cheapest roof possible on and have it be too
- 4:25Speaker 3: quote unquote code.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Well, that's not acceptable for us because.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Even though our GAF Golden Pledge roof warranties come with
- 4:37Speaker 3: a fifty year non pro rated warranty on it, the
- 4:40Speaker 3: worst warranty that you have to use, or the worst
- 4:43Speaker 3: warranty you can get, is one that you have to
- 4:44Speaker 3: use because we know that if you have to use
- 4:47Speaker 3: that warranty, your roof leaked. So we've put together a
- 4:51Speaker 3: roofing system and we have named it the Ultimate Roofing Solution,
- 4:56Speaker 3: and it is done and honestly usually I share every
- 5:00Speaker 3: everything on here. I don't really want to share.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Exactly how it's done, you know, for obvious reasons. It
- 5:07Speaker 2: is proprietary.
- 5:08Speaker 3: But what I can tell you is this, we use
- 5:13Speaker 3: the best products that we can use, done in the
- 5:16Speaker 3: best way, and we use certain products. Remember I always
- 5:20Speaker 3: talk about it doesn't matter what shingles you use, it
- 5:23Speaker 3: can be the best shingles in the world. But if
- 5:24Speaker 3: the critical details aren't done properly, the roof of leak.
- 5:28Speaker 3: That's why we have homeowners to say, well, no, I
- 5:31Speaker 3: talked to another roofer and he said, you can just
- 5:32Speaker 3: go over these shingles.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Well, sure, you can go over those.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Shingles, but then you can't actually do the critical details.
- 5:40Speaker 3: You can't replace pipe boots properly. You can't do your
- 5:42Speaker 3: step flashings, your roof to wall flashings, your chimney fly
- 5:46Speaker 3: you can't do all that stuff properly when you go
- 5:48Speaker 3: over shingles. So, no matter what, a roof should always
- 5:52Speaker 3: be torn down to the decking, so everything can be
- 5:55Speaker 3: inspected and done properly from start to finish.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Out.
- 6:00Speaker 3: With our ultimate roofing solution, we're going to use probably
- 6:06Speaker 3: more ice and water than any other roofer would ever
- 6:09Speaker 3: imagine to use. But that's because we've been doing this
- 6:14Speaker 3: long enough where we know where leak points are and
- 6:17Speaker 3: we know where problems can arise, so we're going to
- 6:20Speaker 3: do It's it's like, quote unquote, our roofing valleys are
- 6:25Speaker 3: like a roofing valley on on crack.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I don't know if that's the right term to use
- 6:31Speaker 2: right here, but like let's say, yeah, yeah, crack bad.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Crack is bad, but it's it's on steroids. Is it overkilled? Possibly?
- 6:43Speaker 3: But if you think about it, a valley is where
- 6:45Speaker 3: two roofs converge or two roofing planes converge, and then
- 6:49Speaker 3: all of that water comes down that area. It's almost
- 6:51Speaker 3: like a gutter for your roof and water will sit there,
- 6:55Speaker 3: tree debris will sit there, the leaves, the sticks, the ice,
- 6:58Speaker 3: the snow, everything builds up there, and when that happens,
- 7:03Speaker 3: it can leak. I mean, I would say probably seventy
- 7:09Speaker 3: five percent of the roofs that we replace have some
- 7:12Speaker 3: sort of underlayment or not underlayment, but decking damage in
- 7:17Speaker 3: the valleys because they've leaked and nobody even knew they leaked.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Over time they leaked, they wet they're dry now, the
- 7:23Speaker 3: wood is rotten. Eventually it will start leaking through. One
- 7:26Speaker 3: of my first home that I bought down here in
- 7:28Speaker 3: the Madison area. We tore that roof off and I
- 7:31Speaker 3: had holes in my valley, and I had no idea.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Then I get in the attic and all the insulations wet,
- 7:38Speaker 3: but I had no idea that was eventually going.
- 7:40Speaker 2: To start causing a really bad problem.
- 7:41Speaker 3: So with our ultimate rooving solution, valleys are done the
- 7:46Speaker 3: best way they can possibly be done. Now, that adds
- 7:50Speaker 3: cost to the job, but for us it adds peace
- 7:52Speaker 3: of mind. We're going to use more ice and water
- 7:55Speaker 3: at the eaves and on the rakes than anybody else will,
- 7:58Speaker 3: and the best underlayd it's possible.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So also with an.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Ultimate roofing solution, we're not going to use a throwaway shingle.
- 8:06Speaker 3: We are going to use a Class four impact rated shingle.
- 8:09Speaker 3: So when these storms come through, you're most likely not
- 8:13Speaker 3: going to have anything to worry about. There's nothing that
- 8:15Speaker 3: made me feel better than when the hailstorms came through
- 8:19Speaker 3: your area where you lived earlier this year. I can't
- 8:22Speaker 3: tell you how many roof inspections that we went back
- 8:25Speaker 3: to for our past customers, and they had no damage,
- 8:29Speaker 3: and every single roof around them was getting replaced. And
- 8:33Speaker 3: this is what I can tell you, and I've talked
- 8:34Speaker 3: about this before when it comes to insurance nowadays, it's honestly,
- 8:38Speaker 3: it's a coin flip. It is a coin flip on
- 8:42Speaker 3: whether or not they're going to approve your whole roof,
- 8:44Speaker 3: half your roof, part of your roof. Maybe you don't
- 8:47Speaker 3: have recoverable depreciation anymore, which you didn't know about. So
- 8:51Speaker 3: let's say you're twenty thousand dollars roof they deemed to
- 8:54Speaker 3: be half half done. Okay, well, now they're going to
- 8:57Speaker 3: give you ten Well, now take out your which is
- 9:01Speaker 3: anywhere nowadays from one thousand to three thousand dollars sometimes more.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Now maybe you're left with seven or eight thousand dollars
- 9:08Speaker 3: to replace your twenty thousand dollars roof. And if you
- 9:11Speaker 3: don't spend that extra ten to twelve thousand dollars out
- 9:14Speaker 3: of pocket to replace it, your insurance company will drop you.
- 9:18Speaker 3: And now you're not gonna be able to get another one.
- 9:20Speaker 3: So the whole the days of just getting hail damage
- 9:22Speaker 3: and getting a.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Roof, those are done.
- 9:24Speaker 3: So what we're trying to do is do the best
- 9:26Speaker 3: roof that we can with the best shingles we can,
- 9:29Speaker 3: so that when stuff like this happens, there's no issue
- 9:33Speaker 3: and we can just come hopefully come now.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Listen.
- 9:36Speaker 3: It's we've spent a lot of time, a lot of
- 9:38Speaker 3: window or windshield time, going back and inspecting these roofs,
- 9:41Speaker 3: but there's just nothing better than when our reps go, yep,
- 9:44Speaker 3: another roof inspection.
- 9:45Speaker 2: No damage, all good, and then yeah, that's what we want.
- 9:49Speaker 1: One of the things too, is we talk about you mentioned,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you know, insurance companies, and obviously they're they're not in
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know, they don't build those beautiful buildings for free.
- 9:57Speaker 1: There's a reason why is they are very guarded and
- 10:01Speaker 1: very cautious with what they're going to pay, and we
- 10:04Speaker 1: can save our personal feelings. Sometimes industry, we probably do
- 10:08Speaker 1: a whole show on it. But one of the things
- 10:09Speaker 1: that I've noticed around town is for folks that have
- 10:11Speaker 1: had to do insurance claims that didn't have those warranties,
- 10:15Speaker 1: their insurance company is just saying, you know what, we're
- 10:17Speaker 1: paying this and then we're done. You're dropped, and it's
- 10:19Speaker 1: it's for a lot of folks. That's going to be
- 10:21Speaker 1: as they look for new insurance and they see that
- 10:24Speaker 1: your last insurance was dropped because they had to pay
- 10:26Speaker 1: for a new roof. Well, I guess what your premiums
- 10:28Speaker 1: are going to look like. They're going to be quite hefty.
- 10:30Speaker 1: So we talk about some of the great things in
- 10:32Speaker 1: peace of mind. You talk about, you know, that ultimate
- 10:35Speaker 1: roofing solution. You talk about the work that you guys
- 10:37Speaker 1: do at Larstom Services. You talk about the service you
