- 1:30mouth, this is a guy that is an accomplished football player and
- 1:34accomplished analyst, and now he's doing real estate.
- 1:37Ladies and gentlemen, we are now talking to former New York
- 1:41Giants tight end Howard Cross. Howard, what's up, buddy?
- 1:45How we doing tonight? We're good, man.
- 1:47And you know what, it's so crazy because my father, my father
- 1:50passed away. My father's first name was
- 1:51Howard. So I like the name.
- 1:53I Could I call you Howie? Could I call you that?
- 1:55No. All right.
- 1:58I was just trying. I was trying to see if we had
- 2:00some kind of connection there, but obviously we don't.
- 2:06Howard. Obviously, the New York Giants
- 2:09made some interesting moves this offseason and one of them was
- 2:14bringing in while firing, firing Brian Dabel in the middle of the
- 2:18season, giving Kafka the opportunity to earn the coaching
- 2:23job. He failed to do that and we knew
- 2:25that the Giants were not and Joe Shane was not going to bring in
- 2:29Kafka. No way the Giant fans would be
- 2:31happy with that. So what did they do?
- 2:33Well, John Harbaugh, obviously, while they said he stepped down
- 2:39or they decided to part ways them in the Baltimore Ravens,
- 2:43John Harbaugh was available. There were a couple of coaches
- 2:46that they were interested in, but they landed arguably the
- 2:49best coach in free agency. What were your thoughts when
- 2:52they landed John Harbaugh? Do you think he's the right guy
- 2:55for the job? Well, he definitely, you know,
- 2:57speaks to the right game and in a very winning tradition as a
- 3:01great history being with the Ravens.
- 3:04I think they, the way they built their team, teams, the way they
- 3:06played that the type of football they played was always exciting,
- 3:09very tough, very physical. Their defenses were always top
- 3:13notch. As the year went on, they
- 3:15depended on Lamar a lot, but they just didn't have enough
- 3:19weapons around them and in the receiving corps I think to make
- 3:22them get over that edge. But for the most part, very good
- 3:25team, very well coached team. They played hard every game.
- 3:29So the power structure that we see with with Joe Shane still
- 3:33getting GM reigns, they have to report to ownership is something
- 3:35that Errol and I were kind of questioning.
- 3:37Very jet like. Yeah, with other organizations
- 3:40that have had to do that in the past, now we're seeing actually,
- 3:42we're actually seeing the Ravens now do it too, or I think their
- 3:44new coach in Jesse Minter asked to do that same kind of thing
- 3:48with the Ravens. You think that's something that
- 3:50is a kind of a flawed structure or can you see that kind of
- 3:52thing working with with John Mayra and Joe Shane?
- 3:56I think, you know, it, it's probably, you know, Chris Mara
- 3:59is one of those guys that could have been a GM somewhere in the
- 4:01league, has been very closely working with the GM's in the
- 4:04past. And, and he's, you know, one of
- 4:06the owners as well. John's legendary owner, always
- 4:09on all the competition committees got, you know, got,
- 4:13you know, bless him and hopefully, you know, continue,
- 4:15continue to help as he as he goes through his, his moment.
- 4:19But I think just being able to report directly to the to the
- 4:22owner when the owner is kind of in football a little bit kind of
- 4:26part of those decisions behind the curtains when it comes down
- 4:30to being in the, in the draft rooms and, and who we're
- 4:32selecting and why we're selecting and, and people that
- 4:35are on the ground. You got even Timmy McDonald is
- 4:38one of the one of the family members that is part of that
- 4:40part of that crew as well. So it's not so much that they're
- 4:44going above or around Joe Shane. That is going right to the to,
- 4:48you know, to the root. We are talking to former New
- 4:50York Giants tight end Howard Cross, played for the Giants
- 4:53from 1989 to 2001, one Super Bowl 25.
- 4:57You know, Jackson Dart has had a sensational year.
- 5:00He's a young quarterback, had the opportunity to take over I
- 5:04think in Week 4 and slowly but surely became a pretty good
- 5:09quarterback. When you have now a new
- 5:11offensive coordinator and a new coach, how do you think this
- 5:15will work? How does how do you think John
- 5:17Harbaugh will completely change his thoughts as a quarterback on
- 5:22what we seen under Brian Dabel? I think you guys, you look at it
- 5:27from that standpoint of no, no Malik neighbors.
- 5:29That's that's what you look at it from.
- 5:31You have have a guy that is is on the field that demands
- 5:35tremendous amount of attention that can play and he goes down
- 5:38and Jackson dart basically comes in right almost at the same
- 5:41time. So he's playing without his
- 5:43number one receiver. Robinson became a a pretty
- 5:46great, pretty good talent. The tight ends try to hold up
- 5:49and stay in there for him. But he he didn't have a guy that
- 5:52that dominated the field where people were like scared of the
- 5:55entire time and that's why he saw Jackson running a lot.
- 5:58How does he look next year? Hopefully neighbors comes back
- 6:01healthy. Hopefully they they find another
- 6:04guy in the draft that can stand on the other side of the field
- 6:06as neighbors and you know, the tight ends pick it up a little
- 6:09bit more and, and the running game picks it up.
- 6:11And then you you have a quarterback that's talented with
- 6:13his legs to make good decisions with the ball.
- 6:16You got to find a couple offers for lineman because some of
- 6:18those guys are free agents. They may not be back next year.
- 6:21So there are a lot of holes in the offense that they're going
- 6:24to have to plug and and fix. But you know, As for a
- 6:27quarterback, they, I think they may have got their guy. $11
- 6:29million they have to spend in the offseason unless they move
- 6:32Dexter Lawrence. There were a lot of thoughts
- 6:34that maybe this offseason that's what they're going to try to do.
- 6:37They there was a couple of things going on this year with
- 6:40Dexter Lawrence and somebody in, you know, when it comes to the
- 6:45Giants analyst, I'm not going to mention a name.
- 6:47You know, I'm talking about back and forth banter between Dexter
- 6:51Lawrence and somebody. He gave his take on the way
- 6:53Dexter Lawrence was playing and Dexter Lawrence obviously was
- 6:56hurt this year. He's making a lot of money.
- 6:59Do you see the Giants maybe trying to trade him in the
- 7:02offseason or do they decide maybe to keep him and and run it
- 7:06back this year with a new new regime, new defensive
- 7:09coordinator? A lot of factors that go in
- 7:12that, you know, I think Dexter, whatever was was tricep or
- 7:15elbow, I don't think it ever healed.
- 7:18I think, you know, if you needed surgery the year before, he
- 7:20probably should have gotten it. I think he tried to rehab it and
- 7:23then come and play with it. I was at training camp a few
- 7:27times or or probably a lot more times than I think and never saw
- 7:31him be like really participate full, full go at at practice
- 7:35because and they're trying to protect his his elbow.
- 7:39Make sure he was or whatever injury it was upper body and to
- 7:42make sure he was ready to go for the season.
- 7:44I don't think he can. You can play yourself into shape
- 7:47during the season. Dexter was a guy that was
- 7:49historically and notoriously playing 75% of the reps He went
- 7:54from 75% of the reps, so maybe 45% of the reps And and even
- 7:59then he didn't feel he didn't look like he was as effective.
- 8:02So moving him, you know, other teams are going to be looking at
- 8:06that, you know, his production, his time on the field, all these
- 8:09different things went down. He's going to have to pass a
- 8:11physical. So if you're moving them, what
- 8:13are you going to move them for? Who's I'm sure they'll still be
- 8:17teams that really want him. And if he does go somewhere and
- 8:19he goes, he gets healthy, he could be that guy that's the
- 8:21double digit stat guy from the interior line.
- 8:24That'll be something that would be horrible to see if he goes
- 8:26somewhere else. But for him, it's going to be
- 8:28it's going to be 1. Is he want to, you know, show
- 8:32everybody that he is the same guy that he was a couple years
- 8:35ago? Or is he going to, you know,
- 8:38come back and want more money and hey, you know, I'm healthier
- 8:42now. You're going to see kind of guy.
- 8:43It's more of a proven moment for for Dexter than it is for the
- 8:46Giants. So whoever is this
- 8:48representation is, they got to find out or get him somewhere to
- 8:51get him as healthy as possible and get him ready to go.
- 8:54I will say this, I did say Ernie Banks and Ernie Banks was a
- 8:56great running back. If I'm not mistaken, I went from
- 8:59Carl Banks. Ernie Banks saw, I remember
- 9:01because I watched the Ernie Banks story a couple of days ago
- 9:05on a documentary on YouTube. So I kind of crossed names.
- 9:08I want to apologize to Carl because we're we're working on
- 9:12getting Carl in the shell. So my apologies.
- 9:14Go ahead, Speedy. All right.
- 9:15Yeah, I want to go back to what I was saying about the the cap
- 9:18situation there in $11 million. If it's not Dexter Lawrence,
- 9:20like who do you think could be the biggest casualties?
- 9:22Could it be Thibodeau maybe gets traded?
- 9:24Could it be one of those secondary pieces?
- 9:25They paid a lot in the offseason, maybe with a new
- 9:27defensive coordinator. Do they move one of them or do
- 9:29you think they go to a different direction?
- 9:31I know you think about the cap in that aspect.
- 9:32I think of it in the aspect of you need, you need, you probably
- 9:35need 2 receivers, right? You're going to need a guy
- 9:37that's going to stand on the opposite side of neighbors.
- 9:39You're going to need that guy that was probably going to be
- 9:41the slot guy because Robinson is probably going to demand a lot
- 9:44of money and you're going to need a tackle because maybe
- 9:48Jermaine Luminor may not be back.
- 9:50You know, his contracts up played really well for the team
- 9:52last year or even through getting banged up, played really
- 9:55well. If he's gone and maybe one of
- 9:58the offensive interior offensive lineman could be gone, then you
- 10:02got questions. You know, you're talking about
- 10:04how you're going to get money for the cap and who you're going
- 10:08to let go. Thibodeau didn't finish the
- 10:10season, right? He they put him on IR.
- 10:13They put him on IR to protect him.
- 10:15So if they want to move him, if they put him on IR because there
- 10:18wasn't a lot left to play for, they just want to protect him
- 10:20that way. Either way, you know, he wasn't
- 10:23in in the game. Dexter was playing typical
- 10:26wasn't that's the decision made. That's above my pay grade.
- 10:31I don't ask those questions. So so you got that problem when
- 10:35you guys talk about the secondary guys, you have two
- 10:38guys that were decent. They were they came in in the
- 10:41Debo and and and and was the other Holland.
- 10:45The the both guys played effectively but got banged up in
- 10:50the season at the same time. And still, you know, they were
- 10:54less effective as as a year after they came back.
- 10:57So that's partially because they're, you know, the injury,
- 11:01they're trying to protect themselves probably a little bit
- 11:03because they want to have a longer career.
- 11:05They need to know if they're going to need surgery in the
- 11:07offseason versus can I just rest and rehab it.
- 11:10So you, you got to decide what the money there or what you're
- 11:13going to do with that. How do you save money in the
- 11:15cap? If you give, if you let Dexter
- 11:18go, that's a big, you know, that's a big budget to the cap,
- 11:20more money to the cap. If you let Thibodeau go before
- 11:23you have to give him that big payday, that's not as much
- 11:27towards the cap. It's just you let him go before
- 11:30you give him the big payday. Cam Scataboo got injured in the
- 11:33middle of the season. A lot of Giant fans were loving
- 11:35him. They were trying to compare him
- 11:36to Saquon Barkley. Let's let's be honest, he's not
- 11:38Saquon Barkley, but he's he's a fun player to root for.
- 11:42He's a headbanger. That's the type of player that
- 11:44he is. I usually those guys don't last
- 11:47too long in the NFL. Do you think Cam Scataboo is
- 11:50going to be ready for the season and is he going to be the same
- 11:53elusive player he was early this season for the New York Giants?
- 11:57I think he will. I think, you know, terrible
- 12:00dislocation, watching it happen and everything.
- 12:02It felt bad for him. But watch him walk right around
- 12:05in a little scooter thing for a little bit and then right after
- 12:07that you see him walking and jumping on the sidelines.
- 12:10In the last two games. He's out of the scooter.
- 12:13He's out, out of the boot. He's already, you know, pretty
- 12:15far along in his rehab. So yeah, I think what a full,
- 12:19full rehab session this offseason.
- 12:21I think he comes back and he's the same guy and I think that,
- 12:24you know, he'll be even better probably because he'll be a
- 12:27little hungrier knowing that he had a little success, had to
- 12:31wait a little bit to get in the game.
- 12:32And when he got in, people were excited about him.
- 12:34He's a high energy guy. He runs really hard.
- 12:37Injury that he had wasn't kind of based on how he ran.
- 12:40It's just a freak thing. The way he landed.
- 12:42He's going to come back in, he's going to be more excited.
- 12:44He's going to be more the same because he's going to prove
- 12:47himself and he's just, and especially with the idea that
- 12:51they could draft the back or, or is he going to be another back
- 12:54coming in and he's, you know, I, I got injured like he's still
- 12:58got proof. So he wasn't the first pick and
- 13:00and his it wasn't the first round pick.
- 13:03He wasn't a second round pick. He was a little later in the
- 13:05draft. So there's always, you know,
- 13:06room for improvement and he's going to want to improve himself
- 13:10greatly to make sure he solidifies his position as a
- 13:12running back for the team. You were speaking about the
- 13:14draft and the Giants are drafting at #5 this year.
- 13:18Now there's a lot of positions they need to fill in.
- 13:21Maybe an offensive lineman, maybe a wide receiver fever to
- 13:24add on the other side of the field to your your other beast
- 13:29of a man who is coming out with an injury.
- 13:31Tate's the guy that everybody keeps talking about.
- 13:34Do you think Tate would fit this kind of offense?
- 13:36Do you think that he's an option for the New York Giants at #5?
- 13:40He could be, you know, I think he's explosive player.
- 13:44I think when you think about guys you want guys that that
- 13:47make plays like all over the field.
- 13:48He's a guy that can go get the ball down the field deep.
- 13:51He can, he runs great routes inside Tate.
- 13:54He can do a lot and you want a guy like that, but is that too
- 13:58high to draft him? You know that That's the
- 14:00question that I'd have. I'm like, is he, is he a player
- 14:03that is he going to come out and going to be the the 5th best
- 14:06player in the draft? You know, there may be a couple
- 14:09guys taking, you know, one and two that you know, number one,
- 14:12of course Mendoza's going to go #2 no one knows who's that's
- 14:16going to be, whether it's going to be the kid from Oregon or, or
- 14:18somebody else, or it could it be one that one, the one the edge
- 14:21rushers or the line from Utah. So you know, if one of those
- 14:26guys, if the guys start to fall because you're starting to draft
- 14:29for need in the first 3 or 4 picks, then you might have an
- 14:31option for, for, you know, a bigger, bigger rank, a higher
- 14:35ranked player. It depends on how high they have
- 14:38tight ranked. I want to shift gears a little
- 14:40bit. You played with a coach that got
- 14:42a got snubbed out of the Hall of Fame last week and Bill
- 14:44Belichick not being a first ballot Hall of Famer, arguably
- 14:47the greatest coach ever obviously was your defensive
- 14:49coach when they you guys won the Super Bowl.
- 14:51What what was your thoughts of that?
- 14:52What was your reaction to all that with the Hall of Fame
- 14:55winners kind of holding him back?
- 14:58It's a little bit of hypocrisy and idiot.
- 15:00See, if you're judging guys, you judge guys by what they did on
- 15:04the field. If they didn't do anything to
- 15:06really like, you know, the other thing that I would say that if
- 15:09they're going to go at him, they're going to go at him like
- 15:11the flake gate or something like that.
- 15:12I think that would be the thing they're they're trying to hold
- 15:15over his head. That could be the only way they
- 15:17could they could use, you know, something against him.
- 15:20But outside of that, one of the greatest, if not the greatest
- 15:24professional head coach that ever lived.
- 15:26Not, you know, not that take anything away from the landries
- 15:29of the world or the shulers of the world, but literally one of
- 15:33the best minds, you know, motivators, schemers, everything
- 15:38that that ever had anything to do with with NFL football coach.
- 15:42Some of the greatest when you think about guys that are, how
- 15:45would I say this huge personalities coaching on
- 15:48Lawrence Taylor and and being able to be around him and and
- 15:52then have him on point game in game out.
- 15:56Harry Carson. You're coaching that guy who's
- 15:58like, you know, he's a beast and and then people are looking at
- 16:02him like almost like he's a coach on the field.
- 16:04Being able to come in and be a head coach when you were like a
- 16:07special teams guy a year or two before and, and demand these
- 16:11guys attention and go win in the Super Bowl against the Broncos.
- 16:15Like those are things that people don't really understand
- 16:17and can see. Like he did a whole lot in the
- 16:20beginning as a defensive coordinator with the Giants,
- 16:23even before he got to New England and and got and don't
- 16:26take a throwaway luck into Tom Brady because Brady maybe never
- 16:30would have seen the fields or just didn't knock him out, knock
- 16:32their quarterback out of the game.
- 16:33Thank you. So thank you.
- 16:35I'm a Jets fan, so thank you. Making me sick even more.
- 16:37Thank you. Howard, Howard.
- 16:39It was funny. I've only been in one Jets game
- 16:42in a lot in my life and it was 20, 15.
- 16:43They actually did a pregame ceremony ottering MO Lewis.
- 16:47Oh man, I'm bored, MO. Be quiet, speedy.
- 16:50I love MO, too. I also love when he knocked out
- 16:53Drew Bledsoe and almost punctured his lung.
- 16:56And then we see Tom Brady, Mr. Pretty Boy, get on the football
- 16:59field and make me sick to my stomach.
- 17:01It really does. We are talking to former New
- 17:03York Giants Titan Howard Cross, played from 1989 to 2001, one
- 17:08Super Bowl 25. Howard, there's another coach
- 17:12and we met him a couple of times, Tom Coughlin, IA.
- 17:15Lot of people don't give this guy enough respect.
- 17:18The Giants didn't, that's for sure.
- 17:20And I remember when the Giants parted ways with him, when he
- 17:23for Ben McAdoo, by the way, and he asked the Giants that year,
- 17:27give me some defensive lineman and I'll win you another Super
- 17:30Bowl. No, they didn't do that.
- 17:32They eventually parted ways with Tom Coughlin, hired Ben McAdoo.
- 17:36And what did they do? They gave him defensive lineman.
- 17:38Ben McAdoo had one good season. The Giants went to the playoffs.
- 17:42Oh, and I remember that wonderful Odell Beckham hang out
- 17:45with Justin Bieber, which everybody remembers the Giants
- 17:48did before the playoffs. And a lot of people thought,
- 17:51hey, Ben McAdoo, if you knew how to control his team, you know,
- 17:53Tom Coughlin wouldn't have allowed that.
- 17:55If Tom Coughlin was there. What were your thoughts to the
- 17:58New York Giants when they decided to part ways with Tom
- 18:00Coffin? Do you think they did him dirty?
- 18:03I'm not doing him dirty. I just think that, you know,
- 18:05when, when whoever's making the decision with coaches and and
- 18:10GMSGMS, today's GM's, they, they don't live on success.
- 18:16They don't, they don't understand how to live on
- 18:18success. And some teams do, like
- 18:20Pittsburgh is a team that keeps one coach for decades, you know,
- 18:25but those coaches have great success.
- 18:27They always are winning games or have winning seasons and and
- 18:30they go into the playoffs. Kaufman misses the playoffs a
- 18:33couple times and all of a sudden he's a bad coach.
- 18:37The guy won two Super Bowls within, you know, 5 or 6 years
- 18:40of each other. You want to keep that guy in the
- 18:43house as long as you possibly can.
- 18:45When you make a decision to go for from him to somebody else,
- 18:48you go to MC. It's not that the guy was a bad
- 18:52coach that you went to. The problem is that the guy that
- 18:54you left was basically going to be a Hall of Fame coach.
- 18:58So you're you're replacing with a guy who's never been a head
- 19:00coach and you're expecting the guy who's never been a head
- 19:03coach to come in demand the same kind of respect or maybe Thomas
- 19:07too hard on the players. Now you're talking about what
- 19:10how can we get player? How can we get the players more
- 19:12discipline? I think it's kind of funny that
- 19:14you know it go I watch a lot of teams do it.
- 19:16There are a lot of coaches that are 1 and done like why'd you
- 19:19hire him if he's one and done? Like coaching is a very, you
- 19:22know, a thankless job. If you look at it, they're
- 19:25they're right above referee unless, unless they're winning
- 19:28playoff games like you can, you can be in and out in a second.
- 19:32Eli Manning has been up for a Hall of Fame not once, but two
- 19:36years has missed out. He's going to miss out this
- 19:39year. It doesn't look like he's on the
- 19:40ballot. Well, he's on the ballot, but
- 19:42he's it doesn't look like he's going to be voted in your
- 19:45thoughts to Eli Manning's career, do you think he's a
- 19:47first ballot Hall of Famer and why?
- 19:51I think it's kind of funny when people people, they dislike
- 19:55certain players, they dislike Eli.
- 19:56Eli when he retired was a top 10 passer, right?
- 20:00He may have been even higher than that.
- 20:02He may have been in the. Top five?
- 20:03He's top five, actually. Yeah, yeah, top five, all right.
- 20:07Two time Super Bowl MVP, two times, not only the Super Bowl
- 20:11MVP, but beats the greatest player that that the NFL will
- 20:14save was like when it comes down to Super Bowls and Tom Brady, he
- 20:18beats the GOAT twice, outplays him twice.
- 20:23And now when it's it's time up, people like, well, he he threw
- 20:25too many interceptions. Well, if you don't have a great
- 20:29offensive line, you got to throw some interceptions.
- 20:31But when it's time to win, he won.
- 20:34Should he be a Hall of Famer? Yes, Should have been the first
- 20:36ballot Hall of Famer. Yes, those numbers, 2 Super Bowl
- 20:40MVPS you like, you're going to let guys in for a lot less just
- 20:45because you don't like him. They all shucks.
- 20:46And it's Eli, always Peyton's brother, always Archie's son.
- 20:50He wouldn't get that kind of recognition.
- 20:52Any any, any quarterback is a two time MVP, beating the
- 20:56greatest player to ever play, taking his team to the playoffs
- 21:00even though he had some bad seasons.
- 21:01But when he had a chance to have a good season, he did it and he
- 21:04literally walked the team in and carried him a couple times into
- 21:07the playoffs. The road Warriors, you would say
- 21:10he he's done it. He proved it.
- 21:12They proved it in the biggest spots.
- 21:13You have other quarterbacks in in in the Hall of Fame that
- 21:17don't have any Super Bowl wins. So I'm just saying that the guy
- 21:21was like one of the top passers in in history two time Super
- 21:26Bowl MVP. Yes, he should be in.
- 21:28I don't know what the bias is against him.
- 21:30A great player. And I'm not just saying that
- 21:32because he's a giant. If you played on any other team,
- 21:34I would still give him the same kudos because that's he achieved
- 21:37the things that you want to achieve, you know, being
- 21:39dominant in an era. And I know they're saying he's
- 21:42not he wasn't dominant because there was you know, Peyton was
- 21:44still playing and and Brady was still playing.
- 21:46They were putting up all these numbers like, OK, but when
- 21:49Brainy wasn't winning the Super Bowl, Eli's won the Super Bowl.
- 21:51We have guys that are down in San Francisco right now and not
- 21:56down, oh, you know, West of San Francisco right now in the LA
- 21:59area. So I, I've been keeping tabs on
- 22:02them and making sure that they're doing the right thing.
- 22:04And so it's been a long day. I'm writing, I'm writing for our
- 22:08website. It's, it's a lot of stuff, man.
- 22:10We, we got to, we got to be on top of things.
- 22:12Howard, come on, you're an analyst.
- 22:14Big time of the year for you. Howard, you are.
- 22:16You are. You're here for me.
- 22:17I'm here for you. Howard I mean, like, we, we, we
- 22:20got to be buddies here. I mean, you played it.
- 22:23Yeah, we, we got this the first time I'm meeting you and talking
- 22:25to you. And it it, it it's, it's it
- 22:28feels like we're we've known each other for a very long time
- 22:30out. So anyways, I I want to get into
- 22:35the NFC ES. The NFC ES and the Philadelphia
- 22:39Eagles are going to be good next year.
- 22:40Well, they're going to have a new offensive coordinator.
- 22:43The Washington Commanders have not the same offensive
- 22:47coordinator, but they're going to have Jaden Daniels back.
- 22:51He should be better. And I do believe the Cowboys are
- 22:54going to be much better. They have a lot of money to
- 22:56spend. They didn't pay Michael Parsons.
- 22:57They have a ton of draft stock, and they're probably going to
- 23:00start to probably resign George Pickens.
- 23:03Where do you see the Giants next year in this division?
- 23:08I don't know if the Eagles make a step forward this year.
- 23:10I think they've they've they've played as as far up as they
- 23:13could the last two years. And I'm not saying that because
- 23:15I'm not against the Eagles or anything.
- 23:17I think Jalen is a is an incredible player.
- 23:20I got to have like a APHD in quarterback in because he's had
- 23:23a different offensive coordinator, I think ever since
- 23:26he's been in college. So now, so to keep learning
- 23:28systems over and over and over again, you're never going to be
- 23:31truly great if you have to learn a new system every year.
- 23:35I think that's going to be a problem for them.
- 23:37I think their offensive line played really well the Super
- 23:39Bowl year. They took a little bit of a step
- 23:42back last year. So that's going to hurt them as
- 23:45they go forward. Maybe they'll get better because
- 23:46they want to prove themselves. But usually, usually the thing
- 23:51that that gets you over to the top is that you're really
- 23:53healthy. And the healthiest they were was
- 23:56two years ago when they won the Super Bowl.
- 23:58Coming off losing the Super Bowl, just a year or so before
- 24:01that, they were as healthy as they could ever be that year.
- 24:05Last year, you saw the health, people getting injured, you
- 24:08know, something a tweak here, a bang there, a couple weeks here,
- 24:13a couple weeks there, and they never really got themselves on
- 24:16track. And I think that beyond anything
- 24:19else, people don't realize the health of a team helps them get
- 24:22through every moment. They weren't healthy the entire
- 24:25time. If they can figure that out,
- 24:27then yes, they'll be back at the top of NFC as far as Washington
- 24:30goes if they can't protect Jalen Daniels.
- 24:34I mean kids are super talented kid.
- 24:36He can throw the ball from any angle.
- 24:38He's got great legs, everything. But if he's always scrambling
- 24:43and always running it only. Luckily the injury was towards
- 24:47upper body. I think it was a tricep or
- 24:50something or dislocated his elbow on his non throwing arm.
- 24:53But that's going to be on his mind from this point on.
- 24:56He's going to be trying to figure out new ways to get down
- 24:59and, and not get crushed by 3 or 4 four guys running the ball or
- 25:03or trying to get out of the pocket and and extend to play.
- 25:06You know, when you start getting hurt and getting hurt twice,
- 25:09he's got a lot to think about. Like the first time he got hurt.
- 25:12OK, I know he wants to play, but in the offseason, people are
- 25:15going to be whispering to him, hey, man, why'd you go back in
- 25:17the game? Why?
- 25:18Why did you play again for the rest of the year?
- 25:20Oh, I want to be with my teammates.
- 25:22Yeah. How'd that work out?
- 25:23You got to take care of yourself.
- 25:25And he's going, that's going to be no matter what you say,
- 25:27that's going to resonate. He's going to hear that a lot.
- 25:29So I think that's going to bother them.
- 25:30They got to get their defense kind of figured out and play a
- 25:33little bit better defense. Olivia also.
- 25:35And then you look at Dallas, love Dallas, always love Dallas
- 25:39there, there. You know, Jerry's always got
- 25:41something going on. The problem is he's going to
- 25:43like redo his defense One, he's not going to be able to sign
- 25:47Pickens. Pickens is going to want big
- 25:49money and somebody's going to offer really big money.
- 25:52Is Jerry going to go out of his way to overpay Pickens?
- 25:56That's going to be an interesting question.
- 25:57And it without Pickens, then their their offense looks
- 26:00different. I mean, I love DAC, but you
- 26:03know, that very looks different As far as the giants go, I think
- 26:07with with being able to solid up the defense, if some if they
- 26:12figure out how to complete a game from beginning to end
- 26:15defensively, I think they're going to win, win a lot more
- 26:18games. Now they're going to rank in it
- 26:20in the east. Again, depends on Philadelphia's
- 26:22health, depends on if they can protect my man down in
- 26:26Washington. If they can do those two things,
- 26:28you know, we're we're we're battling to be 3rd or 4th.
- 26:31If they can't do those things, we're battling to be second,
- 26:34maybe even 1st. And and that's not me being a
- 26:37giants fan. That's just the way that the
- 26:39that, you know, Philadelphia was the first team to won
- 26:42back-to-back NC E titles and God knows how long.
- 26:46So yeah, it's it's it's crazy the way it works out.
- 26:50And again, this year we went into the season.
- 26:53They're like, it's going to be a tough schedule.
- 26:54God, you never know. And that's the season when I'm
- 26:56like, Oh yeah, it's a tough schedule.
- 26:57These guys are all good, you know, so you're not going to
- 27:00catch that. It's bad next year.
- 27:01It's still going to be tough. You play the AFC S they're not
- 27:04the same AFC South as you remember, because the Colts look
- 27:08a lot better. Jacksonville.
- 27:09Somehow somebody found their found their way back to like, oh
- 27:13wow, we can actually play football.
- 27:14And of course Houston looks good every year.
- 27:17So you got that, got that division to play against, you'll
- 27:21figure it out. But the rest of divisions,
- 27:24you'll get a chance at them to try to win some games.
- 27:26But you're not going to you're not going to have to like beat
- 27:29yourself up the entire season like you did last year because
- 27:31last year was a tough schedule. I actually will.
- 27:34You got to play, you have to play.
- 27:35But we didn't have a New England schedule.
- 27:38But we have a really good. Schedule Don't forget the tight
- 27:42isn't that division Brian Davis revenge game.
- 27:45And I like, I like that Howard said.
- 27:47Dak Prescott. Because I love Dak, too.
- 27:49And I think Dak is a great quarterback.
- 27:51He doesn't get enough credit that he deserves.
- 27:54I, I really, everybody likes to pick on him.
- 27:56The Cowboy fans, the Giant fans. And by the way, Howard, you have
- 28:00three Giant fans. My, my board up, my producer and
- 28:04my executive producer right down there.
- 28:06They're all Giant fans. I'm the only Jet fan sitting
- 28:09here, so I listen to this garbage every single show.
- 28:13Well, they're giants. Well, they're giants.
- 28:14Well, they're giants. No, no, no, no, no.
- 28:17That's all I hear. I will say this for you just to
- 28:20just to give you, you know, to give you like perspective, and
- 28:22someone asked, someone asked me the day that he got hired.
- 28:25Oh, man, it's so great. Now we're going to win all these
- 28:28games. Harbaugh's the guy.
- 28:29He's going to like, listen, Harbaugh's not going to tackle
- 28:31anybody. He's not going to catch a pass.
- 28:34He's not going to block anybody. And I appreciate him.
- 28:37You got to have bodies on the field for that coach to be a
- 28:41great coach. If there are no bodies on the
- 28:43field, I don't care who you are, you can bring back Vince
- 28:46Lombardi and Belichick and clone them, put them together, mash
- 28:50them together, make one coach. It is not going to change
- 28:53anything. You got to have the bodies, you
- 28:55know, and it and it's and and for the entire league.
- 28:57It's getting tougher. NIL guys are coming in the
- 29:00league with money transfer portal.
- 29:03Guys have not stayed at the same place and had to grow and
- 29:07develop as a player. I'm not playing.
- 29:09I'll leave and go to another school like you don't.
- 29:12You don't learn to be a football player.
- 29:13And I listen to you guys talk about football a little bit
- 29:16before when I was getting ready for the show.
- 29:19The thing that you guys probably don't think about, and I'm not
- 29:22AI, am an older guy I guess, but it's a real thing.
- 29:25A lot of great athletes to play in the league today.
- 29:28Holy smoke, I. Did I said that the.
- 29:31Difference between that era and the era that I kind of came from
- 29:34is that we were all, we were football players.
- 29:36It's a big difference being a football player.
- 29:38And that's what you're geared for mentally, emotionally.
- 29:41Like, you know, I could have played basketball in college.
- 29:43I could have ran track in college.
- 29:45I could have done a lot of things in college.
- 29:46Heck, I could even probably play baseball.
- 29:48But I was a football player. It's like, and that's what my
- 29:51mind was wrapped around. That's what my every all my
- 29:54being was around. The way that they do things
- 29:56today, it's tough for these guys.
- 29:58They they're like these guys are not in facilities now.
- 30:01They're scattered across America working out in really cool
- 30:05workout facilities and carrying on.
- 30:07I used to be in like it's the Super Bowl hadn't been played
- 30:10yet. I'll be in the weight room
- 30:12working out with Phil Simms watching film and stuff and
- 30:15getting ready for it for the following season.
- 30:17Not worried about the playoffs if we weren't in it or whatever
- 30:20it just getting ready for what what came next.
- 30:23They can't do that anymore. They blow them out of
- 30:26facilities, they come back probably in April and then they
- 30:30get started. Like that's not that's what
- 30:33takes it away. That's where the athlete part of
- 30:35it comes in instead of the football of it comes in.
- 30:38Yeah, we actually had your teammate in Stephen Baker on a
- 30:40few months ago and he was saying a lot of the same thing and that
- 30:42was a big reason he wasn't a big fan of Odell backup at the time.
- 30:45As freak athlete as he was, he sometimes he took it too far
- 30:48points and he was actually very happy when they trained him at
- 30:51the time. Baker and I disagree.
- 30:52I love Odell. Great athlete.
- 30:54Great, great, great football player.
- 30:56Wanted to do more, wanted to return punts, wanted to wanted
- 30:59the ball you know would would take a shot at you blocking if
- 31:03you had, if you got a chance to hit you.
- 31:05He was he was still cut from the same cloth.
- 31:06They just didn't like the antics.
- 31:08I didn't care. Personality.
- 31:09I love personalities. Like be as funny as you want to
- 31:11just keep making plays. If that was the Case, No one
- 31:13would have liked the Lt. So, so you should be listening.
- 31:16So you should be listening to our show because we have great
- 31:19personality, my friend, a little crazy, a little weird.
- 31:22And sometimes I, you know, I could be outlandishly crazy, but
- 31:25we we give you our take and we give it to you straight.
- 31:28You know, Jeremy Shockey, he got a lot of abuse and over the
- 31:32years after he left the New York Giants.
- 31:34And the one thing about you, you're you're one of the better
- 31:37tight ends in NFL history when it comes to blocking.
- 31:41Why do you think that hasn't become or hasn't been in as
- 31:46important now than it was in the time that you were playing
- 31:50blocking? When when I was playing the, the
- 31:53probably the highest rate player on the, the offense was the
- 31:56running back. Like, you know, you, you always
- 31:59wanted an Emmitt Smith, a Barry Sanders, a a Walter Payton, A
- 32:04Rodger, Rodger Craig, Eric Dickerson.
- 32:08I can go on and on and on. These were the got.
- 32:10These are how do we stop? How you stop Thurman Thomas?
- 32:13How do you stop? There were Hall of Fame
- 32:14receivers out there, but how do you stop the running game?
- 32:18How do you how do you slow these guys down?
- 32:21And it wasn't guys weren't throwing for 4000 yards a year.
- 32:25You know, they just weren't doing it a 300 yard game.
- 32:28And so you were playing from behind like the most of the
- 32:31game. It the the game was, was really
- 32:34the three yards in the cloud of dust kind of moment.
- 32:37Tight ends, man caught a few passes like I had a great season
- 32:39when you know, I think I caught like 38 passes.
- 32:41They're like, man, you're a Pro Bowl tight end.
- 32:43I'm like, I'm like, OK, whatever it was like the game was,
- 32:48football was the entire game. Now we have a lot of seven O 7
- 32:54Series all over. We have flag footballers come in
- 32:56and I love flag football because it brings everybody closer to
- 32:59the game. But the seven O 7, the spread,
- 33:02the the flag football, that is the majority of what kids are.
- 33:08They want to catch the ball, they want to be outside.
- 33:11They don't they don't cherish or love contact.
- 33:14This is like it's the fun part of the game.
- 33:16It's what they're playing. It's it's the offensively gifted
- 33:20part of the game. It's the defensively gifted.
- 33:22An interception is great, not the sack of the quarterback.
- 33:28It's the interception. Touchdown is great.
- 33:31It it's not the catch for the first down, you know, it's the
- 33:34catch and runs Yak, hey, all yards have to catch.
- 33:37This is great. It's it's it's different.
- 33:39It's you, you they throw you the ball net.
- 33:42I would have caught in this era and I wasn't a great receiver.
- 33:46I would have caught 6070 passes a year.
- 33:48They can't hit you if you if I know for a fact that I can jump
- 33:54up in the air and you're not going to hit me, I'm going to
- 33:57catch it. You can't even.
- 33:59Threaten me. You would run routes, have to go
- 34:03over the middle there, you would have to know exactly where
- 34:06everybody was on the field. You could get hit pretty hard,
- 34:10like running. Lot did not care if he hit at
- 34:15water, didn't care. You can get hurt out there.
- 34:19You have to know where you were going.
- 34:20I would be very bad. I would be very bad playing
- 34:23quarterback. I'm very bad at sounding names
- 34:25out. Very bad.
- 34:27I would have to give you a nickname.
- 34:28I would call instead of calling you how I'd be like Wee.
- 34:31Wee. Like I would, I'd be horrible.
- 34:36Medicine balls ourselves. You should go.
- 34:40He's not paid to throw it to you.
- 34:42He's paid to throw it near you. I'm like, it's near me, but it's
- 34:45near that guy over there that's going to kill me.
- 34:47Like, oh man, Howard, quickly, who do you have winning the
- 34:51Super Bowl this year? I'm going to tell you guys I've
- 34:55listened to you guys also talk about Sam Darnold and Drake May
- 34:57Love both guys has nothing to do with either of them that both
- 35:02guys need to just play very manage the game.
- 35:06These two defenses are going to determine and I think right now
- 35:09Seattle has the edge in the defensive department.
- 35:12They have such a great defensive line.
- 35:13They get pressure from every angle.
- 35:15The linebackers are playing great.
- 35:17Their secondary will shut you down.
- 35:20You know, New England has a good receiver That's awesome.
- 35:25Seattle has a great receiver also.
- 35:28So, you know, it's it's they're pretty even the running game
- 35:32almost even. But Seattle has a little bit of
- 35:34the edge there. If they can figure out how to
- 35:37slow or or prevent make it a dirty slow it down kind of game,
- 35:41they might have a chance. But Seattle defense really,
- 35:45really is going to be when they say the defense wins
- 35:48championships, it definitely wins Super Bowls because Seattle
- 35:51defense is going to be pretty phenomenal.
- 35:53Not the New England's defenses isn't pretty good.
- 35:55But Seattle's defenses, if if you watch them, especially
- 35:58through the playoffs, they are they they look like they're
- 36:01playing with 13 or 14 guys on the field.
- 36:03Is this a better Seattle defense than the championship defense
- 36:06that we saw with the Legion of Boom?
- 36:08I think so when you think about upfront now they're secondary in
- 36:11the Legion of Boom was that's what the Legion of Boom was.
- 36:13They were still, you know, before they were just on the
- 36:16edge of the the rule change and they were like laying the wood
- 36:20on guys out there and you did not want to catch the ball over
- 36:23the middle. You got cornerbacks at six foot
- 36:2626 foot three playing on the edge.
- 36:27Cam Chancellor Brown. Yeah.
- 36:30Cam Chancellor, like, like, you know, Sherman, like they, they
- 36:33they were like, like the secondary was Hall of Fame.
- 36:36Yeah. So like, you know, the
- 36:37linebackers Hall of Fame. It's hard to remember who was
- 36:41playing in front of those guys. And that's not an insult to that
- 36:46defense. It's just this group, there is
- 36:50somebody at every level that you know what's going on and the guy
- 36:54beside him and that was they're more complete.
- 36:57It it, it doesn't get to be boomed because they're sacking
- 37:00you. You don't get the ball up in the
- 37:03air and get it down the field because they're probably sacking
- 37:05your quarterback. He's running for his life and it
- 37:07gives it gives quarterbacks for a hard time.
- 37:10Howard. Howard, you should be down.
- 37:12You should be over there in San Francisco selling some real
- 37:15estate. That's what I heard you were
- 37:16doing. You should be out there.
- 37:18You should be going over there. Gronk, you want you want to buy
- 37:21some houses? Come on.
- 37:21Come to New. Jersey, come to New Jersey.
- 37:24I'm just don't bring this in. With.
- 37:25Me, I'm a commercial guy and that market is not the best
- 37:28market. I don't mind working in
- 37:32Manhattan. Well, they got money, every one
- 37:34of them, so they'll, they'll, they'll spin the wheel and make
- 37:37the deal, as we all know. But Howard, we really appreciate
- 37:40you joining us. I know it's been busy for you
- 37:42the offseason. You're doing such a great job.
- 37:44You do a great job with the Giants and keep up the good
- 37:47work. And we'd love to get you on
- 37:48before the season starts. Alright, let me know man, I'll
- 37:51be around. All right, Howard Cross, ladies
- 37:54and gentlemen, give them a golf clap, Speedy God, give a nice a
- 37:57nice golf clap it. Is.
- 38:00It is we love. I listen.
- 38:01I'm not a Giant fan, but when we get Giants on the show, I love
- 38:05them because they're honest, they're straightforward, and
- 38:08even though they're going to stick up for their teams, they
- 38:11always do. They they understand that it
- 38:15you're, you have to be honest, you got to go out there as a
- 38:17Jeff fan. My team sucks.
- 38:19Okay, they stink. And bringing in Frank Wright.
- 38:23I, I hope it works. It probably is going to fail.
- 38:27Aaron Glenn is going to get fired and then we're going to be
- 38:30driving up another coach or finding somebody like John
- 38:33Gruden or something like that. I I mean, honestly, as a jet
- 38:37fan, I could only hope this season is somewhat decent,
- 38:41somewhat decent, because if it isn't, I am going to have a I'm
- 38:45going to have a heart attack. I'm going to have something I,
- 38:47I, I already have a heart murmur.
- 38:49I might have a stroke or a heart attack.
- 38:51So I mean, this team just makes me sick to my stomach.
- 38:54So Howard Cross was sensational. Thank you to Howard.
- 38:57I really appreciate him. He was absolutely sensational.
- 39:02He tastes himself. And he tastes himself.
- 39:04As we all know, ladies and gentlemen, we call this.
- 39:08Alrighty then, righty there. All righty.
- 39:17Righty there. I had to take a shit.
- 39:21That's not what Chavez doing right now.
- 39:23Maybe, but here we go with. All righty then, this is a
- 39:28segment where we're going to read 1 of Arrows articles on the
- 39:31worldwidesportsradio.com. This one is his recent article
- 39:37about the man, the legend, the Draymond Green.
- 39:41I'm going to read some of it. Then Speedy is going to read
- 39:44some comments from our From Arrows fans on Reddit.
- 39:48Like a serial. Count.
- 39:50So here we go. Let's get this guy off the
- 39:53screen. The new one coming right up for
- 39:57you and again, if you are not watching along with us, please,
- 40:01you watch us on video. You can get the video feeds as
- 40:04well as the audio on Spotify on Apple.
- 40:08Speedy, I think we're just audio on Pod Bean, but we are
- 40:11everywhere. You can find us YouTube houses,
- 40:13all of our live shows. You can catch all of our shorts,
- 40:17all of our longer videos there and all throughout all of the
- 40:20socials. So here it is, Draymond Green
- 40:23verse common sense. A 10 year undefeated streak by
- 40:27Errol Marx. So here we go.
- 40:29If chaos had a jersey, it would be a Warriors green #23 with a
- 40:35podcast mic tucked under one arm and a referee in a headlock
- 40:39under the other. Draymond Green, basketball
- 40:42savant, defensive genius and part time WWE audition tape has
- 40:47once again found a way to make the NBA about him.
- 40:51And not in the wow what a great defender way, but in the yo did
- 40:55he really just say that way? According to reports, Draymond
- 40:58and allegedly directed an offensive racially charged
- 41:01remark toward a referee, an incident that has fans doing the
- 41:04universal sports reaction. What shaking their heads,
- 41:09looking their phones, whispering Draymond again and, and honestly
- 41:12at this point, nobody shocked, disappointed, yes.
- 41:14Surprise, absolutely not. This is an isolated incident.
- 41:17This is episode 947 of keeping up with the Greens and their
- 41:21anger issues. Let's take a nostalgic stroll
- 41:24down Draymond Blvd. 2016 The Nutcracker Chronicles kick
- 41:30Steven Adams where no basketball should ever go.
- 41:32Not once, not twice enough times to qualify for a UFC loyalty
- 41:36card. The referee roasting era the
- 41:402023. The Stomp around the world 2023.
- 41:43Rudy Gobert gets the sleeper hold guys.
- 41:47Come and check out the rest of the article on
- 41:50worldwidesportsradio.com. Speedy.
- 41:54By the way, before I get to the comment, I do want to mention
- 41:56the first incident with Steven Adams.
- 41:59One of my one of my college friends actually crashed our
- 42:01show and called that Thunder from Down Under.
- 42:04That's right. I remember that very much, yeah.
- 42:07Yeah, there was plenty of them. So I did a mixture of this with
- 42:10this set. So this group MBA discussion, I
- 42:12kind of worded it as does this these kind of incidents make
- 42:16Draymond Green the dirtiest player in NBA history and one of
- 42:18the dumbest. And it's interesting because the
- 42:21first comment I want to bring up actually brought up the the
- 42:23anger management slash mental health angle from from Errol's
- 42:26article. And this is a Schlang Lankis.
- 42:28How many players been suspended indefinitely and sent a
- 42:30mandatory therapy and counseling?
- 42:32A step beyond dirty place for Draymond and it goes into mental
- 42:34health and trying to hurt others throughout his career.
- 42:38Say that again. I'm sorry, Speedy.
- 42:39I was. I was reading something.
- 42:41So he was saying how many, how many players have been suspended
- 42:43indefinitely and sent to mandatory therapy and
- 42:45counseling? He thinks it's a step beyond
- 42:47dirty plays with Draymond Green and goes into mental health and
- 42:50anger management issues that are trying to hurt others during his
- 42:52career. I, I agree with you.
- 42:54I, I think that Draymond Green has been an absolute ridiculous
- 42:58personality. And, and again, Draymond Green
- 43:01is the enforcer. He's the Dennis Rodman of this
- 43:04era. Dennis Rodman didn't do the
- 43:05things that Draymond Green has done.
- 43:08I've seen Rodman throw punches. I've I've seen him, you know,
- 43:11put it, you know, dye his hair in different, you know,
- 43:14different ways. And and he's gone out there and
- 43:17and spoke and and have attacked people to the media.
- 43:20But Janice, Rod and by the way, he's gotten drunk and and gone
- 43:23to casinos before games, playoff games, and then show up the day,
- 43:28the day after and play in those games drunk.
- 43:31I've seen him do that, but I've never seen Dennis Ramen do the
- 43:34things that Dream on Green has done on the basketball court.
- 43:37It's despicable. It's ridiculous.
- 43:40And the the NBA really has not stepped in at all.
- 43:43They suspend him what, a couple of times they find him a couple
- 43:47of times. This guy continues to do it.
- 43:49And now after what he has said about the referees and talking
- 43:54about Caucasians and and race, I mean, this guy does not know
- 43:58when to shut up. So it's it's typical.
- 44:01Absolutely. Typical, right?
- 44:02So you brought up Dennis Rodman and a lot of the comments were
- 44:05centered on the Bad Boy Pistons. This one actually extended
- 44:07further. This is Organic Valley.
- 44:09The Bad Boy Pistons existed. So no.
- 44:11So I kind of mentioned it like collectively as a team or like
- 44:13Draymond Green individually. Worse than that, he also
- 44:15mentioned Bill M Beer, which a couple other guys mentioned too
- 44:18as being the dirtiest player. And then also Zaza Pakulia, who
- 44:21are the infamous dirty play on Kawhi Leonard when he was sold
- 44:24the Spurs. And he says also from other eras
- 44:26that were dirtier than Draymond as.
- 44:27Well, I will say this, the Bad Boy Pistons were a lot dirtier
- 44:32than Draymond Green because you could do a lot more in the NBA
- 44:35in the 80s. I mean, the Jordan Rules, they
- 44:37wouldn't even let him get into get into the box.
- 44:40If he got into the box. They clothesline them and I've
- 44:43seen how many times Michael Jordan go up for a layup and he
- 44:46get pushed, pushed into the the fans and stuff like that into
- 44:50the seats. So we're going Organic Valley.
- 44:52I absolutely agree with you. I think that in those days they
- 44:56could do anything. How about the bed, the Celtic
- 44:58teams, how vicious they were on a basketball court in the 80's,
- 45:01the Larry Bird and Kevin McHale and Robert Parish teams, they
- 45:05were mean and they were vicious as well on the basketball court.
- 45:08So you're right, Draymond Green is not as bad as they are
- 45:11because the rules are different. But in those days, flagrant
- 45:15fouls really never existed. Now you put a pinky on somebody
- 45:18because of LeBron James, you're getting a flagrant 1.
- 45:21So. Here's another interesting one.
- 45:23I was, I don't have the whole comment because he he was
- 45:24writing like a paragraph when he did this, but this is PPO.
- 45:27He actually thinks the game has gone softer since the 50s.
- 45:30What players were constantly fighting, even instances where
- 45:32players were fighting the police.
- 45:33And he thinks it's even got softer into the 80s.
- 45:37PPI agree with you. I I wasn't alive for the 50s, so
- 45:41how would I know what was going on in the 50s?
- 45:43What I do know is that as as the 70s came around and the 80s came
- 45:48around, you see more aggressive play.
- 45:51And even when Charles Barkley, Charles Barkley started playing
- 45:55in the 80s all the way into the 90s, how many fights did we see
- 45:58him fight with Shaquille O'Neal? Now they're butt buddies.
- 46:00They're hanging out on the same set.
- 46:02So these guys absolutely hate each other.
- 46:04And here's another thing, when you were playing for a team, the
- 46:08Bulls, you were playing for the Knicks, you were playing for the
- 46:10Pistons. They were never friends.
- 46:13They never liked each other. Every time they played, they
- 46:16couldn't stand each other. Now these guys are brother in
- 46:20laws or they're, I don't know. They're they're they're sons
- 46:25godfather. Well, I mean, all of these guys,
- 46:27Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James,
- 46:30they're all buddies and they're they're all arch nemesis is when
- 46:34they played against one another. So it's a completely different
- 46:37sport than it was in the 80s and the 90s to today.
- 46:40All right, so another one this another one.
- 46:42This is from OK Temporary 2843. So kind of another 1 based on
- 46:45Lambier. That's Bill.
- 46:47He's a complying Bill Lambier. He has a video game about how he
- 46:49was the dirtiest player. And besides that, that's like
- 46:52cool. You mentioned again, but I kind
- 46:53of wanted to word it as this. Like, do you think Draymond
- 46:55Green takes more pride in him being like an angry player in
- 46:59his antics on the court than Lambier dead?
- 47:03Draymond Green's trying to sell sponsorships, algorithms as, as
- 47:09they say with the computer and AI, they're trying to find the
- 47:12right algorithm that's going to sell his product.
- 47:14He is a podcaster. That's what he does.
- 47:17And yes, I think when he comes out with these vicious takes on
- 47:21and off the basketball court or he's trying to choke somebody
- 47:23out or step on their balls or trying to injure Lee,
- 47:26permanently injure somebody. Yeah, He knows it's going to be
- 47:29on ESPN. No, he knows it's going to be on
- 47:30Sports Center. In the 80s and the 90s, there
- 47:33wasn't ESPN really. I mean, they had their they were
- 47:36just getting into ESPNESPN was just getting popular.
- 47:39So it was only one sports organization.
- 47:42Now you have you have the Internet, you have Yahoo Sports,
- 47:45you have ESPN, you have CBS Sports, you have all these
- 47:48different plain, you know, different platforms that you can
- 47:51post things and it can get out there.
- 47:53So, yeah, Draymond Green's trying to sell himself.
- 47:55He's trying to sell himself away from basketball because at the
- 47:58tail end he's on the back eighteen of his career.
- 48:02So yeah, I agree with you. OK, I I I do believe the Lambier
- 48:06is one of the vicious players of this era.
- 48:08Kevin McHale was pretty bad, too, All right.
- 48:11I don't, I don't know if anybody remembers Kevin McHale.
- 48:13He was vicious on the basketball court.
- 48:15You go up in a layup, if he didn't like you, he's elbowing
- 48:18you right in the chest. And they would never call a foul
- 48:21on Kevin McHale. He would get away with it a lot.
- 48:24So. All right, last one we got from
- 48:25inside, noise 68-O four. Does Draymond Green being this
- 48:28dirty make this error with the athletes that are in the game
- 48:31now? It was the longer comment, the
- 48:32toughest, dirtiest and most physical in history.
- 48:34Not a chance. Not a chance.
- 48:37The most physical time when I basketball was my sport.
- 48:41Watching basketball was the first sport I fell in love with.
- 48:45From the late 80s to the mid 90s.
- 48:48It was vicious. Think about it.
- 48:49You had the Pistons, you had the Celtics, the Bull.
- 48:53The Bulls were not vicious. Michael Jordan was just vicious.
- 48:55He would just give it to you on the basketball card.
- 48:57You speak to him, he'd give it to you.
- 48:58The Knicks, they were vicious. They would absolutely punish you
- 49:03when you went up for a layup. I mean, you had Anthony Mason
- 49:06and Charles Oakley, you had these kind of guys, Xavier
- 49:08McDaniel, who couldn't stand Michael Jordan was trying to
- 49:11permanently injure him every time he went up for a layup.
- 49:14So there were a lot of mean teams.
- 49:17And then you had finesse teams like the Houston Rockets and,
- 49:21and those teams and they didn't become the elite of the elite
- 49:24until Michael Jordan stepped away for a couple of years.
- 49:27So I, I, I, I do believe that the late 80s and early 90s were
- 49:32the meanest when it came to and physical, more physical teams in
- 49:38that time in that, in this, I would say in this century of
- 49:41basketball. So that was the worst this time.
- 49:44I mean, who's the most vicious 1 You have Brooks and you have
- 49:47Draymond. I mean, there's not many vicious
- 49:50players in the NBA. Draymond Green, he to me, I
- 49:54think it's all about click bait. I think it's all about social
- 49:57media. It's all about algorithm.
- 50:00It's all about his podcast. That's why he doesn't.
- 50:02Everything that comes out of that guy's mouth, everything he
- 50:05does on the court is trying to sell sponsorship.
- 50:08He's a bad boy. Is he considered one of the top
- 50:10worst top ten bad boys of all time?
- 50:13Not a chance. I don't think Draymond Green is
- 50:15in my top ten bad boys. Top 15, yes.
- 50:18Top ten, no. I would take five of the Detroit
- 50:21Pistons. Everybody talks about Bill and
- 50:23beer. There was another guy in the
- 50:24team for the first couple of years, I forget his name,
- 50:26another big that was pretty vicious too on that team.
- 50:31Isaiah Thomas was bad. He he did something.
- 50:34Dennis Rodman got worse later at the tail end of his Detroit
- 50:38Piston years and then going in, you know, with the playing with
- 50:41the Spurs and playing with the the Bulls, he became more
- 50:44vicious. There were a lot of vicious
- 50:46players also in the 50s too. Wilt Chamberlain was a vicious
- 50:50player. He would beat the hell out of
- 50:52you every time he put his hands up.
- 50:55Wilt Chamberlain didn't have to jump.
- 50:57He would knee you in the crotch every time you went up for a
- 51:00layup because he was that bigger.
- 51:01He was that much bigger than you.
- 51:03And even Bill Russell, there were, there were things about
- 51:05Bill Russell that they said that he would.
- 51:07He would. He would use elbows, he would
- 51:08use fingers. He would use anything to keep
- 51:10you away from the hoop. So there were a lot of vicious
- 51:13players in the past and they got away with it because the NBA has
- 51:17become more of a girls game now. So, yeah, Draymond Green, top
- 51:22ten. No, I do not believe he's a top
- 51:24ten. Do I think he's the worst of
- 51:26this era? Yeah, I would say he is.
- 51:28In the last 15 years, yeah. Brooks is getting up there.
- 51:31I mean, he's getting up there now.
- 51:33I could say that. And Brooks, Brooks is getting to
- 51:36a point where he's he's still fairly young.
- 51:38Draymond's on a tail end. I don't think we've seen a list
- 51:41of the bad the big bad Brooks going out there and doing
- 51:46something that's going to cause a lot of a lot of takes on ESPN
- 51:51and first take in the future and he maybe even on our show.
- 51:54So yeah, I I think Draymond Green's the worst of this era.
- 51:57Top ten. No, Thank you for all the all
- 52:02the comments and everybody that wrote and, and everybody that's
