- 1:52Speaker 1: We're talking here in the middle of the week.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It's may.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It's hot, starting to get real hot, super hot.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Let's touch on fsu baseball real quick, um yeah, big game they uh well, let's the series.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Last weekend, um, they only got to play two against nc state right?
- 2:05Speaker 2: um, hey, man, we were there, for that would be second game saturday.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that was frustrating, but you know, the rules are the rules and you have lightning and it's hard to work around it.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I am.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I know both teams have, or were, like pitching.
- 2:23Speaker 2: They're like yeah, I mean, man, like now that a few days have passed it really does sound like the field was not in the greatest shape, particularly the infield.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Kind of surprising.
- 2:36Speaker 2: But yeah, it definitely saved bullpen for Florida State, which I think came in handy last night against Jacksonville.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and they lost the opener by one run Friday night but they came back Sunday afternoon won convincingly.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Really good, really nice effort by Dorsey.
- 2:57Speaker 1: They only had two pitchers pitch.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Right, you know, you had Dorsey and then you had Connor Holtz.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And I'm telling you, man like dorsey looks much more like a starting pitcher than than a guy that you would want to bring out of the pen.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I mean, he kind of settles in, he develops his own rhythm.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Uh, you watch them like work through not being able to find his curveball early innings and then he kind of found it right and I was surprised, man, they, they let him go up to about 110 pitches and that's I think that's as much as he's thrown this season.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Well, that's good, they needed it.
- 3:32Speaker 1: They need to give him right and rely on.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Jamie Arnold Didn't pitch poorly, like five or six infield hits yeah, friday night for NC state.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I mean, they don't strike out a ton.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Yeah, he has a lot of strikeouts, yeah, and that's kind of his game.
- 3:47Speaker 2: That's the way he gets outs is striking people out.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It's just, you know, NC State's not a bad team.
- 3:53Speaker 2: No-transcript.
- 4:00Speaker 2: At least you didn't get a series loss.
- 4:02Speaker 1: That's true, because, like it's like it's really important that fsu hosts a regional and I would say a super regional right, and that's still on the table.
- 4:14Speaker 2: You would guess yeah, I, you know, for me personally, the importance of the super regional has everything to do, honestly.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I mean, obviously you want to have home field advantage throughout if you can, but it keeps you from having to travel and play one of those SEC teams and that's the closest thing.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Clemson atmosphere early when you saw Florida State play at Clemson, that's that kind of atmosphere that you're going to, and it'd be nice to not have to do that, to go to Omaha, but I mean, you know, whatever they're going to be back in the postseason.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Winning last night was huge.
- 4:49Speaker 1: It was.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Let's talk about that one you only played two games over the weekend so you couldn't get that series winner.
- 4:55Speaker 2: So this game, more than the win would help it became you lose this game and it's really going to.
- 5:01Speaker 2: You know, it's going to have more impact than most midweek games.
- 5:07Speaker 2: And Jacksonville pitched really well for about eight two-thirds innings.
- 5:12Speaker 2: They had a lead, was it?
- 5:14Speaker 2: They were up 6-3 going into the ninth, I think 6-4, maybe going into the bottom of the ninth.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Then wheels came off for their closer Florida State ended up tying it up.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Dms Ross was able to tag and get home off of a little foul out from Dinges, you know.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And then Lance Triple, the backup first baseman, you know he got up with his first at bat in a long time.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I think it was the bottom of the ninth with a chance to win the game and just absolutely drilled one.
- 5:45Speaker 2: But it was a hell of a play by the second baseman.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It was the third out.
- 5:48Speaker 2: He makes another play in the top of the 11th at first base that saves a run, gets the third out and then comes up bottom half and gets the walk-off.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, it was a big, big, big win for them.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you saw that.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They started out really flat.
- 6:06Speaker 2: You know there wasn't a lot of energy from Florida State.
- 6:09Speaker 2: They had a couple of guys starting that don't really play every day, yeah, but by the end of the game man it was, you know they were as charged up as any weekend series, so it was good to see.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It's going to be a big test.
- 6:23Speaker 2: These last two weekends you got to go to a place like Pittsburgh, which it's going to be chilly, you've got seven regular season games on the schedule left.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Right, you've got two weekend series and then you travel to DeLand, florida, next week to play Stetson.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that won't be easy, no, but you win that Georgia Tech series.
- 6:44Speaker 1: You win five out of the seven games.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Five out of the seven games.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You have a good chance of hosting.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you'd be sitting at about 41 and 11, 41 and 12 on the season before the ACC tournament.
- 6:56Speaker 2: You're definitely going to host a region where it's worst.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think they've locked that up.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think, if you, you know, win the last two series do maybe win a couple games in the ACC tournament you've got a really good argument for a national seed.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, national seed is the goal right now for FSU baseball.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I believe that they already locked up a regional up for the first round.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I mean, albeit a complete collapse here at the end of the year.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you put an 0 for up and then you might have some questions.
- 7:26Speaker 1: What a fun year, man.
- 7:27Speaker 1: It's been going by fast, oh yeah man.
- 7:30Speaker 1: We're going to have some peanut gallery.
- 7:32Speaker 2: It goes a lot quicker when the team's winning We'll have J-Mac on here.
- 7:36Speaker 1: We're going to ask him some questions, but I went to the game Sunday with the little guy.
- 7:44Speaker 1: It was his first game.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It was fun.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I think I sat behind Link Jr's wife.
- 7:48Speaker 1: That was cool.
- 7:48Speaker 1: They were really nice.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you've got the whole fam man I didn't even know I mean, but it was a good game.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It was a nice effort by Dorsey and just a well.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It's a fun team to watch and they have a lot of.
- 8:03Speaker 1: You know it's not the most talented FSU team, but they got a lot of grit and they got a lot of.
- 8:09Speaker 2: They fight and they're never out of it, right and for some of the guys, they have something that a lot of FSU teams haven't had and that is the taste of being bad like on a bad team.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and their memories of an FSU team that didn't win games.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Right, and you can see it, man, from guys like Tibbs, cam Smith, jaime, even Dude it's, I don't know.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I still maintain that if and when Florida State does win in Omaha, it's going to be a year that nobody really expects them to do it.
- 8:42Speaker 2: They're not talking about them being the overall best team and dominant.
- 8:49Speaker 2: We'll see man.
- 8:49Speaker 2: All right, we will Complete 180 from last year.
- 8:52Speaker 1: It's really good to see.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Well, it's that type of you know, that's baseball, college football.
- 8:59Speaker 1: We're in the middle of the second portal window and for FSU, we're in the middle of the second portal window and for FSU, you really haven't seen much in the second opening until today.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Portal Combat.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Yes, portal Combat is back.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Fsu lands a linebacker.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Tell us about him, right?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Cam riley, uh, originally was gonna go to nc state.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Um, never really.
- 9:38Speaker 2: You know, he wasn't part of their spring.
- 9:40Speaker 2: He was thought to be the replacement for peton Wilson, who has now gone to the NFL.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Um transfer from Auburn, originally from Evergreen Alabama, what's up?
- 9:50Speaker 2: oh wow, a ton of time there you know, very familiar with Connecticut County, very small, small town.
- 9:56Speaker 2: But, um, you know that you couldn't make a better size linebacker in the lab.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I mean, you know it's huge, that's what I like and it can move, yep, so it's a very good pickup for the linebacker room.
- 10:12Speaker 2: You know, I wouldn't say that they're going to be the top overall unit.
- 10:18Speaker 1: No, but this was the question Right when are you going to get a little more experience and a little more?
- 10:24Speaker 2: And they did just that.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yep, it was big because they wanted him in the first window.
- 10:28Speaker 2: He was a guy that they were looking at, didn't really work out.
- 10:32Speaker 2: There was some talk about grades or the fact that he had to finish and graduate from Auburn before and Florida State wasn't necessarily going to wait that long, but I think that they still saw that they need to address the linebacker spot a bit after spring.
- 10:49Speaker 2: So I, that's big pickup man.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Um, the other one taking taking omario and cooper back from colorado.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Uh, that what I, what I read is that it's going to be a preferred walk-on spot.
- 11:02Speaker 2: So for me, I just got to assume that he understands the deal and he's going to make the move to safety, which would be a nice addition to the safety room.
- 11:13Speaker 2: It would.
- 11:13Speaker 2: It would just add depth, and I mean he wasn't somebody that went to colorado and did terribly you know he actually started games produced.
- 11:22Speaker 2: I know their defense was horrible, but I mean, come on, man, yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Charles.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Kelly defense story is there.
- 11:30Speaker 2: It's a little bit of a head scratcher.
- 11:31Speaker 2: He was one of the few kids that left and went out to Colorado that I had wished had stayed.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Him and Gant were pretty much the only two, yeah, but I think he understands.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I think what's clear is that he's ready to come back and explain to anybody who will listen just what a big mistake it was that he made going out to Colorado, because you're talking about a kid that was a freshman all-conference player.
- 12:01Speaker 2: What two years ago, three years ago, 21, and then came into 22, had some injuries but had a little bit of pub, a little bit of juice to his name when he went out to Colorado, and now he's back as a scout team player paying his own way.
- 12:18Speaker 2: So there's a lesson to be learned there, and he's not somebody that is completely talentless.
- 12:24Speaker 2: So I like both of those pickups.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Overall, the transfer portal in this window was so highly overblown.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Guys like josh pate and national people were making a huge deal out of it, and I think what happened was is that, you know, these agents and these nil collectives just started feeding them bad info, negotiating tactics, getting schools to get really scared and start ponying up.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I will say, though, that a couple of schools really made out in this window.
- 12:57Speaker 2: They were able to improve their roster Miami probably more than anybody.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a big year for them.
- 13:03Speaker 2: They're going all in Right.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Damian Martinez the running back.
- 13:06Speaker 2: To me that's a bigger addition than Cam Ward.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I know they needed a quarterback.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Really, I'm talking about just overall talent.
- 13:12Speaker 1: The guy from Oregon State right.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Compared to his peers in college football, I think you got one of the best running backs in the game.
- 13:20Speaker 2: You know, this is it, though.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Yeah, miami has a very light schedule.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Everybody on their schedule is beatable.
- 13:29Speaker 2: You know there is no excuse really for Mario to not be in the ACC title game, at least Yep.
- 13:36Speaker 2: So they went out and they spent like that.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You know they got the big defensive tackle from Michigan State, simeon Barrow.
- 13:44Speaker 2: You know Florida State had been interested in him the first time he jumped in.
- 13:47Speaker 2: He ended up staying at Michigan State.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I don't think they were willing to go as high as some of the other schools that he was considering but Miami just straight up beat LSU for him and outspent LSU is doing major damage control right now from that.
- 14:05Speaker 2: They're going all in this year.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Miami did some work in this late portal but other than that there was really there weren't a lot of moves to be made for a team like Florida State You'd looked and thought maybe if another super wide receiver jumps in he'd go there.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I know the Zandamela kid seemed like he would have been somebody that they would interested in but it it seems like the only in-state schools that really snipped that kid were florida and ucf.
- 14:34Speaker 2: So he ended up up in gainesville.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You know just a very lackluster second window of the portal.
- 14:43Speaker 1: It got a lot of build for no delivery well, I think you know you got a lot of guys in the first window and roster wasn't I mean there was, if you could say, one position now where you would want to add more depth, is you're still wide receiver?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Uh, I mean depth I don't, I don't want to add.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't want to add depth at wide receiver?
- 15:02Speaker 2: yeah, I, I want to have.
- 15:03Speaker 2: If there was one guy you were going to take, it would have been just the bona fide.
- 15:05Speaker 2: To add depth at wide receiver?
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to have.
- 15:05Speaker 2: If there was one guy you were going to take, it would have been just the bona fide game breaker at wide receiver.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And they really didn't.
- 15:10Speaker 2: There really wasn't that.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, there were some guys that put up numbers and things like, but not just a true number one in any offense.
- 15:18Speaker 2: So I don't know, man, this far out of the season, I really think the defense is going to dictate most of the season.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Well, it was good to get that linebacker, Lucas.
- 15:29Speaker 1: What is that?
- 15:30Speaker 2: Cam.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Riley Cam, riley Jesus.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Duke Cooper back.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So those are two late additions.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I don't know there may be another ad here.
- 15:42Speaker 2: There's a couple of under-the the radar defensive linemen that they're kind of sniffing around.
- 15:46Speaker 2: One of them is an FCS guy.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Okay, we'll see all right well, we had to go.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Well, we got to get on out of here.
- 16:01Speaker 1: But before we do, we're going to talk a little NBA playoffs.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Nuggets Nuggets are down 0-2 to the T-Wolves.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Chris Finch and the T-Wolves former Nuggets assistant Boy, I mean, what did I say?
- 16:18Speaker 1: I bet the house on Denver to even this thing out and they got killed in Game 2.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Gobert was having a kid and wasn't even there yeah, well, jamal Murray went three of 18 yeah and he threw a heating pad.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah, had an absolute temper tantrum on the court.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Uh, that's, they're getting to him yeah, they're getting to him and they're playing defense and and Anthony Edwards is making a name for himself.
- 16:46Speaker 2: That guy is arguably as good as anybody in the league right now.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Well, this is where he has to do it we talked about.
- 16:53Speaker 1: If you want people to know your name, you've got to win in the playoffs, and no better team to do it against than the defending champs.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And he has them down 2-0, going back home to minnesota right him and anthony towns put both, put together good games in game two and just uh, they have nice veteran experience like a guy like monte morris what happens?
- 17:18Speaker 2: what happens if they go down 3-0?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Do you think the nuggets have a chance?
- 17:22Speaker 1: No, no team in NBA history has come back from 3-0.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Not one, it's a big game.
- 17:28Speaker 1: The other series OKC.
- 17:30Speaker 1: They beat Dallas in game one.
- 17:33Speaker 1: No one's given OKC much, even the one seed Everybody was going to be Denver, Boston, Big old Chet.
- 17:45Speaker 2: It doesn't look like he'd be able to take the pounding and just but man, he hangs with them.
- 17:52Speaker 1: They're going to be tough yeah they're going to be a handful and they took care of business.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You got Boston and Cleveland.
- 17:59Speaker 1: That's going to be an easy series for Boston.
- 18:01Speaker 1: And then the fun series in the East is Pacers-Knicks.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Oh my God, the Knicks.
- 18:06Speaker 1: If you haven't been watching them, you need to do it.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Every game they get into it's going to be tied with a minute left and it's going to be back and forth.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And Jalen Brunson, I think the next game.
- 18:15Speaker 1: The over-under is 37.5 for his points per game.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Jeez, it's a lot.
- 18:19Speaker 1: They're getting it together.
- 18:21Speaker 1: The NBA playoffs are in full swing.
- 18:24Speaker 1: They get back going tonight with some more games.
- 18:28Speaker 1: We'll keep an eye on all those.
- 18:29Speaker 1: We'll keep you on the transfer portal.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Stay tuned for more North Florida Sports Network.
- 18:33Speaker 1: We're coming at you live from Metro tomorrow and we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
