- 2:13Speaker 1: episode synopsis for Hope Valley Episode three, Rebecca starts a
- 2:18Speaker 1: mess tent to fund boarding house repairs. Tom faces an
- 2:22Speaker 1: unexpected setback. Olivia takes her art to the next level
- 2:26Speaker 1: with help from Alexander and Clayton. This episode was directed
- 2:30Speaker 1: by Martin Wood. Martin has sixty directing credits, including When
- 2:33Speaker 1: Calls the Heart, Holidays, Virgin River and tons of other
- 2:37Speaker 1: Hallmark movies and series. Episode three was written by Alfonso H. Marino.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Brad Abramenko joins us Nash. He has fifteen acting credits,
- 2:46Speaker 1: but this isn't his first Hallmark gig. He did appear
- 2:48Speaker 1: in a Splash of Love in twenty twenty two. The
- 2:51Speaker 1: character Phoebe Taylor also joins the cast this week, but
- 2:54Speaker 1: at the time that we're recording this details on the
- 2:58Speaker 1: actress are pretty limited. We're hoping to have more next week.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Maria March plays to Van, the daughter of one of
- 3:03Speaker 1: the prospectors, and yes that is Beth and y Joy
- 3:06Speaker 1: Lends's real life daughter. Before we take a break, can
- 3:09Speaker 1: I ask you in your opinion, how do you think
- 3:11Speaker 1: this show's doing for for Homework, Oh, for Hallmark. I
- 3:16Speaker 1: mean the feedback I've seen is positive. I know me too,
- 3:20Speaker 1: So I hope it's getting views. I think, honestly, this
- 3:23Speaker 1: is probably the most positive I've seen from a Homework
- 3:26Speaker 1: exclusive series. Yeah, I just wonder if they're getting their
- 3:29Speaker 1: views over there. I hope so, huh, I hope. So. Well,
- 3:33Speaker 1: let's take a quick break and we'll come back with
- 3:35Speaker 1: our first impressions. Hey, Wendy, what is your first impression
- 3:47Speaker 1: of Hope Valley episode three? I am starting to worry
- 3:51Speaker 1: that Rebecca is going to girl boss herself into financial ruin.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Oh interesting, My first impression is, oh, look another job
- 3:59Speaker 1: for Rebeca okay, good. We walked away with the same
- 4:04Speaker 1: first impression. Yeah, how many hours Soo's girlfriend having a day?
- 4:08Speaker 1: I know, I don't know. Let's talk what we liked
- 4:11Speaker 1: this show. Can Okay, I'm shocked how much I enjoy
- 4:15Speaker 1: this show. First of all, let me let me just
- 4:16Speaker 1: say that my husband asked me last night, He's like,
- 4:19Speaker 1: what are you watching. I'm like, I'm watching the Hallmark's
- 4:21Speaker 1: version of Little House on the Prairie basically, and he's like, oh,
- 4:24Speaker 1: how is it. I'm like, it's not terrible, Like it's
- 4:26Speaker 1: not terriblet by any means. I'm uh huh, finding kind
- 4:30Speaker 1: of comforting in a way, even though, yes, even though
- 4:36Speaker 1: the show like Deephicks that life is not easy for
- 4:40Speaker 1: these people, right, I appreciate that Rebecca's boarding house isn't
- 4:47Speaker 1: magically coming together, even though that's like secretly what I want.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I want like a montage episode of like everybody helping
- 4:53Speaker 1: and building and painting and like putting curtains up and
- 4:56Speaker 1: stuft that's what I want, sure me too, But I
- 5:00Speaker 1: like that we're showing that it's not. I also like
- 5:04Speaker 1: that Rebecca is clearly over her head and the show
- 5:09Speaker 1: is letting her be over her head, like the boarding
- 5:13Speaker 1: house is too much for one lady, Come on now,
- 5:16Speaker 1: yes it She's like, I don't think it was this episode,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but it might have been episode two. She's like, I
- 5:21Speaker 1: got to fix the roof. I'm like, is Rebecca gonna
- 5:23Speaker 1: go up there? I'm like, pound those. I think it
- 5:25Speaker 1: was this episode. I can't remember. Oh yeah, because somebody
- 5:29Speaker 1: fell through not the roof, one of the upstairs float. Yes,
- 5:33Speaker 1: one of my favorite scenes actually, when he falls through,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I mean it makes me. It reminds me of The
- 5:37Speaker 1: Money Pit, which I love that movie with Tom Hanks
- 5:40Speaker 1: and totally falls through rug. Oh my god. It's so funny.
- 5:48Speaker 1: But overall, I think they do a really good job
- 5:53Speaker 1: of showing that the Steaks feel real for everybody in
- 6:00Speaker 1: this community. Yeah, it's funny because I like it too.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I like it too, And I'm curious what you think.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Would you like it as much with the different actors
- 6:09Speaker 1: in the lead, or do you think Benjamin and Bethany
- 6:13Speaker 1: are are doing a lot of the work here. What
- 6:17Speaker 1: a curious question, Well, because they're both so good and
- 6:23Speaker 1: so watchable. Right if you're saying, like, if it was
- 6:27Speaker 1: a lesser known name, would I still be drawn too? Yeah?
- 6:31Speaker 1: Would we care? As you know, I don't know. I
- 6:33Speaker 1: don't know either. It's impossible to answer, really, but I
- 6:35Speaker 1: do think they're both really working for me. I think
- 6:38Speaker 1: the casting, I mean, I really like the Jill Hennessy
- 6:41Speaker 1: casting as well. She thinks she's excellent. Great. We are
- 6:45Speaker 1: seeing some real character development in this episode, particularly in
- 6:48Speaker 1: the role of Tom. You know, Tom comes in and
- 6:51Speaker 1: he's so staunchly opposed to the prospectors and everything that
- 6:55Speaker 1: they're about, and he's basically like his line is like,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you're gonna have to get out of here. And now
- 7:00Speaker 1: he's realizing that's not a battle he's gonna win. They're
- 7:03Speaker 1: not going anywhere. And not only are they not going anywhere,
- 7:06Speaker 1: but he starts to lose his own staff to the
- 7:08Speaker 1: appeal of the get rich quick scheme of it all.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I like that Rebecca is instrumental in him coming to
- 7:16Speaker 1: an understanding because he's about to post looking for ranch
- 7:21Speaker 1: hands and she's like, give them one more chance. And
- 7:24Speaker 1: when he has that discussion with him and he finally
- 7:26Speaker 1: comes to a compromise of this isn't gonna work. If
- 7:29Speaker 1: I draw a hard line, it's you know, it's me
- 7:32Speaker 1: or hit the road. So when he makes a compromise
- 7:34Speaker 1: of come to work for me and I'll give you
- 7:37Speaker 1: a day off, Yeah, to go find your fortunes. That's
- 7:40Speaker 1: growth on the part of I think so too. And
- 7:43Speaker 1: he realizes this isn't gonna work. My way's not gonna work.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And I appreciate that he is willing to step out
- 7:50Speaker 1: of himself. Yeah, I really like that too. You know
- 7:54Speaker 1: I don't I don't want Rebecca to be like I
- 7:57Speaker 1: want Tom to get to these things on his own
- 8:00Speaker 1: a little bit, Like I don't need Rebecca Man's plaining
- 8:03Speaker 1: everything to him all that shit. But I do appreciate
- 8:06Speaker 1: that she said, hey, look at it from their perspective,
- 8:10Speaker 1: wouldn't you do the same thing for your families or whatever?
- 8:14Speaker 1: I did like when he like walks into the mess
- 8:16Speaker 1: tin and he like gives his big speech and then
- 8:18Speaker 1: turns around. He's like, is anybody coming with us? A
- 8:20Speaker 1: little bit of levity, which I love from Ben Ayers
- 8:23Speaker 1: also maybe think of like Jerry maguire when Jerry McGuire
- 8:26Speaker 1: gives his big sage, like he's like nobody's coming with
- 8:29Speaker 1: them except for like that one. Chick ayay thought that
- 8:32Speaker 1: was very good. Uh huh, this was a moment. And
- 8:36Speaker 1: I am enjoying watching Ben Airrs in this role as Tom,
- 8:42Speaker 1: growing from this gruff guy who disagrees with Rebecca to
- 8:46Speaker 1: kind of maybe being more open to like, well, things
- 8:49Speaker 1: are changing and I have to evolve with the times here.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But you know, and I also really like that, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Tom's piss at his ranch, hands are off panning for
- 9:00Speaker 1: goal and Tom's doing the work, but he's not just
- 9:03Speaker 1: like the boss who's like he's digging fence posts. Yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: though in that scene I thought I was really funny there,
- 9:09Speaker 1: like Tom, give it a break, You're gonna Like I was, like,
- 9:12Speaker 1: Tom is willing and able, like he's not an eighty
- 9:15Speaker 1: year old man out here trying to dig post. Oh
- 9:17Speaker 1: but life was shorter on the frontier. This is fair,
- 9:21Speaker 1: This is fair. We got a new character on Locke
- 9:23Speaker 1: who I really like, our sassy Phoebe Taylor, and we
- 9:26Speaker 1: don't see a lot of her in this episode. But
- 9:28Speaker 1: I suspect, based on her writing to the rescue at
- 9:32Speaker 1: the end, that she's going to become a fixture here
- 9:34Speaker 1: in Hope Valley. She is the one who comes to
- 9:38Speaker 1: the rescue with her beeswax treated canvas for the mess tent,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and she and Hattie, I believe, have a lot to
- 9:45Speaker 1: relate to. It seems like her son has moved away
- 9:48Speaker 1: and that is a future that Hattie is wrestling with
- 9:54Speaker 1: that Olivia wants to bigger and better. She's funny. I mean,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know, she talks. She hates people, which I can
- 10:02Speaker 1: fully relate to me too, maybe even more. Yeah, she's
- 10:06Speaker 1: just like they're just people, but people gonna be really annoying.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I thought she was funny, and she's same level as Hattie,
- 10:12Speaker 1: don't you think so? Like they kind of like no nonsense,
- 10:16Speaker 1: no nonsense, have this kind of sort of dry humor
- 10:20Speaker 1: about them. Yes, but have seen some stuffy Yeah. I
- 10:25Speaker 1: enjoy her introduction as well. I'm really enjoying Hattie and
- 10:30Speaker 1: Olivia as mother daughter. First of all, the actress who
- 10:33Speaker 1: plays Olivia is so damn cute with her two chin
- 10:37Speaker 1: dimples is just adorable. She's so cute. I'm also wondering
- 10:41Speaker 1: how she gets those curls, Like, how are you doing
- 10:45Speaker 1: rag curl? Yeah? Maybe overnight? Yeah, obviously they're not curling
- 10:50Speaker 1: them with the bioionic in the morning. No, Yeah, it
- 10:53Speaker 1: must be like a rag curl situation to be okay,
- 10:57Speaker 1: things we think about. I just was noticing how cute
- 11:00Speaker 1: her curls are. It's a lot of work to get
- 11:03Speaker 1: your hair up into those updues every morning, I would imagine,
- 11:06Speaker 1: for sure. But what I love about these too is
- 11:10Speaker 1: that Hattie especially, she's practical, She's observant, and she's not
- 11:15Speaker 1: afraid to say what needs to be said. That's what
- 11:18Speaker 1: I like about her so much. And like I said,
- 11:22Speaker 1: like her and Phoebe are kind of the same. Rebecca
- 11:25Speaker 1: is along those lines too, Like we have these kind
- 11:27Speaker 1: of very strong women. Yeah, for sure, I'm enjoying watching
- 11:32Speaker 1: that when I think this is probably a time that
- 11:37Speaker 1: the women made. Yeah, we have strong women. They were
- 11:40Speaker 1: not probably allowed to be necessarily that strong and such
- 11:42Speaker 1: a strong opinion. Yeah, the roles that they play in
- 11:45Speaker 1: town are probably an inflated version of reality, but I
- 11:49Speaker 1: like it. And the other thing that I like about
- 11:52Speaker 1: Hattie is she's growing too. She's really afraid of Olivia
- 11:58Speaker 1: leaving her, but she seems to start to accept that
- 12:03Speaker 1: that is a reality and that may be what's best
- 12:05Speaker 1: for her daughter, even though it'll be what hurts her.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think this is why I'm drawn to their story. Ler.
- 12:11Speaker 1: My daughter is on the verge of moving away to college.
- 12:14Speaker 1: So yeah, you know, part of me is like I'm
- 12:16Speaker 1: sad to see this part, and I'm very excited. Go
- 12:20Speaker 1: go get it, girl, you know, can I go back
- 12:22Speaker 1: to Rebecca for a second? So I keep thinking about Rebecca.
- 12:27Speaker 1: This was a Rebecca heavy episode in terms of like
- 12:31Speaker 1: trying to make her dreams come true. Dreams come true
- 12:37Speaker 1: is trying to do the damn thing exactly. I'm watching
- 12:40Speaker 1: this and I'm like, why isn't anybody helping her? Like
- 12:44Speaker 1: this is kind of a small nick community. I'm like,
- 12:47Speaker 1: why aren't they, like let me work on the boarding
- 12:51Speaker 1: house with you? And then I had the realization that
- 12:54Speaker 1: everybody is getting by here. Everybody's trying to survive, but
- 13:00Speaker 1: he has the extra time or energy or whatever right
- 13:06Speaker 1: to help somebody else out right. Yeah, they're hand washing
- 13:11Speaker 1: their clothes and panning for gold and living in a
- 13:15Speaker 1: tent and tending the farm. Animals, Yeah, children, and yeah, yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: pinning their hair up every morning, Yeah, exactly. I just
- 13:24Speaker 1: think that's a really smart choice because if we did
- 13:29Speaker 1: have like a community rally lean around Rebecca and doing
- 13:33Speaker 1: all this stuff to have this magical scene happen of
- 13:37Speaker 1: the boarding house getting done right, wouldn't be so true
- 13:40Speaker 1: to life. So I do like that. Yeah, but I
- 13:43Speaker 1: almost wonder if we're building towards that because in this episode, sure,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you know, we see them they're so reluctant to try
- 13:49Speaker 1: her fancy food with seasonings and garlic, right, and they
- 13:54Speaker 1: come around and she figures out, you know, she figures
- 13:56Speaker 1: out a way to do that. So I wonder if
- 13:59Speaker 1: we are going to come to a point where maybe
- 14:02Speaker 1: Tom or Hattie is like, yo, I benefits everybody if
- 14:04Speaker 1: this boarding house gets up. So if everyone pitches in
- 14:07Speaker 1: for a weekend, maybe we could get this going. Oh
- 14:09Speaker 1: maybe I would love to see that. You know, all
- 14:12Speaker 1: of the ways in which she's shown up for the community,
- 14:15Speaker 1: they start to show up for her. And you know,
- 14:17Speaker 1: she's teaching Peggy to read, and maybe Peggy convinces her
- 14:21Speaker 1: husband to get in on help. And I don't know
- 14:23Speaker 1: what the deal is, What's Peggy doing Why can't Peggy
- 14:25Speaker 1: come help? I think being a wife, you know, she's
- 14:30Speaker 1: cleaning the house and doing the laundry and cooking, and
- 14:33Speaker 1: every meal is made from scratch, and she's raising children,
- 14:36Speaker 1: and I think there's a lot, a lot to be done.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I think the days are long and hard. Yes, yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 1: I wouldn't call these likes, but I do want to
- 14:46Speaker 1: just call it a few little ongoing slash newly introduced storylines,
- 14:52Speaker 1: just so or tracking them. Sarah, it's attempting to make
- 14:56Speaker 1: friends with Vivian, the daughter of Prospector Doyle, and it
- 14:59Speaker 1: is not going well. That's left very open ended, and
- 15:04Speaker 1: I suspect that Vivian is very guarded. She's out there
- 15:10Speaker 1: working with her dad. Yeah, so I think we're going
- 15:12Speaker 1: to potentially see some development there, sure, especially learning that
- 15:16Speaker 1: that's actually bethany' jolays her life daughter. Yeah. Yeah, we
- 15:21Speaker 1: have this story that I don't know if there's more here,
- 15:25Speaker 1: But Sarah spends most of this episode being sad that
- 15:28Speaker 1: her mom is leading her out. That's how she perceives it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: It's in my wishes. Yeah, oh okay, she's struggling with
- 15:35Speaker 1: like she liked it when it was just the two
- 15:36Speaker 1: of them. It borders on whiney to me. It orders
- 15:39Speaker 1: what yeah, and I get. I get both sides of this.
- 15:43Speaker 1: To me, I'm like, your mom is out here hustling girlfriend, like,
- 15:46Speaker 1: she is trying to make a life for you. Whatever
- 15:48Speaker 1: you've run away from it was, it was for you.
- 15:51Speaker 1: She's trying to build a life. Yes, for herself too,
- 15:53Speaker 1: but that's an adult perspective, though, You're right, it is
- 15:56Speaker 1: an adult perspective. But the mom's like, go make friends,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and the daughter's like, I just want to be with you,
- 16:03Speaker 1: which I understand because this is what the daughter knows.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Tell me your wish. My wish is that I get
- 16:09Speaker 1: that Rebecca is trying to push her to be a kid. Mmm,
- 16:13Speaker 1: because Rebecca realizes that she has asked a lot of Sarah,
- 16:19Speaker 1: you know, as they explore the frontier or whatever. But
- 16:22Speaker 1: it comes off as dismissive to me. Interesting, Yeah, yeah, Well,
- 16:27Speaker 1: the thing that I was wondering is is there more here?
- 16:29Speaker 1: Is there a reason why Rebecca wants Sarah to be
- 16:34Speaker 1: her own person and to have her own life, Like,
- 16:36Speaker 1: is there something she's protecting her from? Is there something
- 16:38Speaker 1: she's hiding from her? Or is this simply like a
- 16:42Speaker 1: push and a pull of like her mom wants her
- 16:44Speaker 1: to be independent and have her own thing, but Sarah's
- 16:45Speaker 1: not really ready for that because she's in this whole
- 16:47Speaker 1: new world and she likes her life with her mom.
- 16:50Speaker 1: That is so interesting. Euro pov is so different than
- 16:55Speaker 1: mine on this line. Tell me how, because I think
- 16:58Speaker 1: that Rebecca realizes that she has asked a lot of Sarah.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Sarah has been asked to step into this adult role yes,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and basically been her partner in survival right, and now
- 17:12Speaker 1: she's being told to step back with like no transition.
- 17:16Speaker 1: She's not explaining anything to Sarah in terms of like, listen,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I've asked a lot for you, and you have been
- 17:24Speaker 1: such a great help. But you also need to be
- 17:27Speaker 1: I don't even know how old this child is supposed
- 17:28Speaker 1: to be. Twelve, Yeah, you also need to be a
- 17:32Speaker 1: kid and go have fun. Look at all what the
- 17:34Speaker 1: other kids are doing, like skip rope and read and
- 17:38Speaker 1: make believe and whatever. Like there's no explanation there. She's
- 17:42Speaker 1: just like, go talk to that girl, go play with
- 17:45Speaker 1: that person. It comes off as dismissive, like you are
- 17:49Speaker 1: a little bit too much. I can't deal with you.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Too much. I got other stuff to deal with. Interesting,
- 17:58Speaker 1: we continue to have the constable sniff around for information
- 18:01Speaker 1: about Rebecca. This obviously continues to be our biggest unanswered
- 18:04Speaker 1: question for me. And an interesting piece is he commissions
- 18:08Speaker 1: Olivia to draw these drawings the frontier that are going
- 18:12Speaker 1: to be used as advertisement by the government to convince
- 18:15Speaker 1: people to move out West Weird different, so interesting to me,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and I feel like this is gonna layer in right,
- 18:22Speaker 1: Like this potentially could be Olivia's path to a career
- 18:26Speaker 1: in art. I'm using quotation marks. It could be the
- 18:30Speaker 1: way she moves out of Hope Valley. I find it
- 18:33Speaker 1: hard to believe that she would leave, she's such a
- 18:36Speaker 1: main character. But I but maybe I don't know. I
- 18:40Speaker 1: don't know what her future is. But also you and
- 18:42Speaker 1: I discussed this off Mic at the end of the episode.
- 18:45Speaker 1: He looks at one of her drawings and it's of
- 18:47Speaker 1: Rebecca and he kind of does a double take, and
- 18:51Speaker 1: you pointed out they like zoom in kind of on
- 18:54Speaker 1: her little doll, Sarah's doll. Yeah, yeah, So like that's
- 18:59Speaker 1: like another path that we need to explore. Finally, still
- 19:04Speaker 1: on the table is the idea of her I think
- 19:06Speaker 1: wishes are life. No, these are just like stuff that
- 19:08Speaker 1: I feel like we need to acknowledge these threads. Okay,
- 19:11Speaker 1: we're chasing yeah in a series. Okay, Rebecca's selling her
- 19:15Speaker 1: necklace for funds. You know her daughter has said don't
- 19:18Speaker 1: sell the necklace multiple times last episode. This episode she
- 19:22Speaker 1: says it more than once. We're supposed to be watching that.
- 19:26Speaker 1: That is the Netflix. Hey, dummies on your phone, pay
- 19:28Speaker 1: attention to this moment. This matters, And so clearly Rebecca
- 19:34Speaker 1: seems to be doing everything she can to make money
- 19:36Speaker 1: in the interim to avoid doing that, like she is hustling.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But on the other hand, they've called it out so
- 19:42Speaker 1: many times that there's got to be another piece to
- 19:45Speaker 1: this story. Of course, so seems inevitable. Well again, in
- 19:50Speaker 1: Sarah's defense, a twelve year old should not be concerned
- 19:55Speaker 1: about her mother selling a ring that means something. Yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm on team Sarah here, But I see both sides
- 20:06Speaker 1: of this. I see Sarah's like this is all we
- 20:09Speaker 1: have left, like this is my last tie to our family.
- 20:12Speaker 1: And I also see Rebecca being like, I gotta put
- 20:15Speaker 1: food on the guy. I gotta do girl. Still, let's
- 20:19Speaker 1: talk wishes. I'm gonna start with a wish that's on
- 20:23Speaker 1: my lower list, but you did bring it up previously.
- 20:26Speaker 1: It is about Alexander Vaughan. I am very interested to
- 20:32Speaker 1: see where that storyline goes. Right now, he's just mostly observing.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I'm like, let's speed it up a little bit, like
- 20:43Speaker 1: give me, give me. I don't want just like the
- 20:47Speaker 1: hook at the end of the episode. I need something
- 20:50Speaker 1: a little meteor. Why is he suspicious just because she's
- 20:55Speaker 1: out of place there, I get, I mean, particularly because
- 21:00Speaker 1: that's not really his job, Like he was sent in
- 21:03Speaker 1: mostly to keep the peace. Was not a month of settlers, Yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 1: like the law has arrived to kind of be a
- 21:10Speaker 1: presence and settle disputes among people with different goals and desires. Right,
- 21:17Speaker 1: but yeah, he's You're right, trying to like FBI this
- 21:20Speaker 1: lady when it's like, who really cares? She is not?
- 21:25Speaker 1: Look the way I see it is, there's no way
- 21:27Speaker 1: Rebecca is an actual threat to these people, you know
- 21:32Speaker 1: regard Okay, Yeah, what else I need Rebecca to listen
- 21:38Speaker 1: to anyone, someone, anyone? You know, She's got all these
- 21:44Speaker 1: She's so stubborn. And while I appreciate that you will
- 21:49Speaker 1: like my gumbo girl bossing her way through Hope Valley.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But the other thing, I'm like, how does she have
- 21:56Speaker 1: time and money? Yes, like how do you literally tells
- 22:00Speaker 1: her give the people what they know? And Rebecca said, no,
- 22:04Speaker 1: I will give them vegetables, which I'm like, why are
- 22:09Speaker 1: you so judgy? Like she Rebecca a little bit judgy here,
- 22:12Speaker 1: Like she even says about that perspector, like one of
- 22:15Speaker 1: the last time he had a vegetable or something like,
- 22:17Speaker 1: she says something like that girl, you were out, you
- 22:20Speaker 1: were out on the frontier. These people are barely surviving.
- 22:23Speaker 1: The man is eating jerky to survive. Where are is
- 22:25Speaker 1: she getting a vegetable if they don't have one? How
- 22:29Speaker 1: does she she's planted a vegetable garden in the midst
- 22:31Speaker 1: of all of this, I don't understand. And then she's
- 22:34Speaker 1: speaking gumbo. Now correct me. If I doesn't gumbo have
- 22:39Speaker 1: sausage in it? Doesn't it have some sort of meat
- 22:41Speaker 1: protein in it? But it sounds to me she's made
- 22:43Speaker 1: like a vegetarian one. Maybe I don't. I don't it's
- 22:46Speaker 1: aromatic and my garlics, I'm my mom my mama or whatever.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Like she's basically giving people like vegetable broth. I'm guessing
- 22:55Speaker 1: you know there's stuff in it, like what I don't
- 22:57Speaker 1: what's in gumbo? Shred and sausage and rice, a dark rue,
- 23:05Speaker 1: strong stock and the holy trinity of celery, onions and
- 23:08Speaker 1: bell peppers, commonly packed with chicken and dewey sausage or
- 23:12Speaker 1: seafood seasoned with spices. I mean, I did see some chickens,
- 23:17Speaker 1: so maybe maybe served over white rice. Maybe we're supposed
- 23:21Speaker 1: to get the impression that that flock of chickens is
- 23:25Speaker 1: in the gumbo. They had something. They had smoked meat,
- 23:28Speaker 1: so maybe they had some sort of sausage. I don't know. Okay.
- 23:31Speaker 1: That leads me to the next question, where is she
- 23:33Speaker 1: getting money to buy smoked meats to put into a
- 23:35Speaker 1: gumbo to give to people for free. The whole Rebecca
- 23:39Speaker 1: thing is so frustrating to me because I'm like, girlfriend,
- 23:42Speaker 1: you need to buy vance prescription. Focused you are trying
- 23:47Speaker 1: to renovate the boarding house, get it up and running.
- 23:50Speaker 1: She's like, well, I'm have to feed them anyway, but
- 23:53Speaker 1: it takes so much time to make all this food,
- 23:56Speaker 1: put up the tent, make who's working on the boarding house.
- 23:59Speaker 1: You're just delay, You're spending all of your time teaching
- 24:01Speaker 1: Peggy to read. Now you're cooking for them, When are
- 24:04Speaker 1: you going to get the boarding house up and running.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I understand that, yes, providing food for these people is
- 24:10Speaker 1: a nice service, and it is a way to make money.
- 24:13Speaker 1: But if you were to focus on the boarding house,
- 24:15Speaker 1: you could do both. Right, But she needs the money
- 24:18Speaker 1: from the food that she's ideally selling to the prospectors
- 24:23Speaker 1: to then work on the boarding house. Okay, fair enough,
- 24:26Speaker 1: fair enough, But then decides nobody wants my gumbo, so
- 24:29Speaker 1: I'm going to give it away for free, which not
- 24:32Speaker 1: a bad idea to get them a like of course
- 24:35Speaker 1: they'll take it if it's free. And I ever went
- 24:36Speaker 1: to a grocery store and they give you a sample,
- 24:39Speaker 1: we're talking a sip. I understand they were giving a
- 24:42Speaker 1: lot more away. They were being generous. Yes, you know
- 24:45Speaker 1: you got to it's called a loss leader. You worked
- 24:47Speaker 1: at a grocery store, now, I know that's why strawberries
- 24:51Speaker 1: are not sense some pound to get you in the
- 24:53Speaker 1: door and anyway anywhere wishes. Now I'm just going through listen.
- 25:00Speaker 1: It's mostly like practicality questions, mostly like where's where's Rebecca
- 25:06Speaker 1: getting money for ingredients? Where's her time? Why? Yeah, all this,
- 25:13Speaker 1: you know, it's mostly just that. But you're right, like Rebecca,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I'm worried about Rebecca. She's gonna burn out. She's gonna
- 25:24Speaker 1: burn out. Yeah. Yeah, Well let's want you to see that.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I have two Okay, one we've talked about before. I
- 25:35Speaker 1: just want to say shout out to the cast because
- 25:37Speaker 1: they are committed. The weather is weather ing when they
- 25:42Speaker 1: shot this. I don't know what month it was in.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Wasn't late last year, I don't remember, but man, I
- 25:50Speaker 1: saw rain, actual rain, And then I saw some Instagram
- 25:53Speaker 1: stories where it was kind of like behind the scenes
- 25:56Speaker 1: and they were showing like Rebecca's character, like basically like
- 26:01Speaker 1: tredging through mud. I was like, man, these conditions were
- 26:05Speaker 1: not great for them. Oh no, not great at all.
- 26:08Speaker 1: My other digit see that. Yes, I think you're right.
- 26:11Speaker 1: They did film late late last year early this year.
- 26:15Speaker 1: But even in a lot of scenes like because they're outside, yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 1: Tom and Nash and Tom and the other ranch hands.
- 26:25Speaker 1: They're in Tom's barn or whatever it is, and you
- 26:29Speaker 1: see breath like this is the exact opposite of shooting
- 26:32Speaker 1: at Christmas Wyvie and July. Yeah, I just bravo to
- 26:36Speaker 1: these characters casts. Yeah, it totally does it totally does
- 26:41Speaker 1: my other digit see that is Olivia says to I
- 26:46Speaker 1: can't remember it's Clayton, who was barely in this episode,
- 26:51Speaker 1: or Alexander. I don't remember who she said it to,
- 26:54Speaker 1: but she said cool it like in response, like somebody
- 26:59Speaker 1: says somebody to her and she oh, cool it. And
- 27:00Speaker 1: I'm like, hello, are we in Hope Valley or Sweet
- 27:03Speaker 1: Valley High? Here? Cool? It is not something you're gonna
- 27:07Speaker 1: say In eighteen seventy four, did you clock that too?
- 27:11Speaker 1: I saw you look with something else, some other language,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and I was like, I can't remember what it was.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think it was Rebecca saying something, but I can't.
- 27:22Speaker 1: She said, like, Yo, check this out. I'm telling you
- 27:25Speaker 1: I've said it in the first previous two episodes. Someone's
- 27:27Speaker 1: a language is way too it's too contemporary. Yeah, yeah,
- 27:32Speaker 1: I agree with you. I think the choice to have
- 27:38Speaker 1: Rebecca speak differently, I think it is an intentional choice.
- 27:42Speaker 1: But I do agree she speaks her language is contemporary.
- 27:47Speaker 1: A couple. I laughed out loud when Lars fell through
- 27:50Speaker 1: the ceiling in the opening scene. It's great and Lars
- 27:53Speaker 1: is kind of goofy, and I appreciate that he's like
- 27:55Speaker 1: the only one showing up to help her out. She
- 27:57Speaker 1: delivered his baby. That's very nice, I laughed it Hattie
- 28:00Speaker 1: clocking Clayton's tea, telling him that he should maybe be
- 28:03Speaker 1: a little more organized so he doesn't have to be
- 28:04Speaker 1: running errands at the trading post every single day. Yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 1: when he finds a reason to come by and see Olivia.
- 28:09Speaker 1: It's probably part of the reason we don't see as
- 28:11Speaker 1: much of him later in the episode because he was shamed. Yes, shame, shame.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Don't come after my daughter. Now. If you're following girls,
- 28:18Speaker 1: go on Hallmark, on Instagram or TikTok. You did see that.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I posted a reel where I said that every time
- 28:23Speaker 1: I hear the word prospector, I see stinky Pete from
- 28:25Speaker 1: Toy Story two. And then I realized in my notes
- 28:28Speaker 1: that the prospector whose gold is being weighed in the
- 28:31Speaker 1: beginning his name is Pete. I'm sure that's accidental, but
- 28:35Speaker 1: I'm sure it is. And finally, a question, is Rachel
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yos the mom with the baby, the only woman in
- 28:40Speaker 1: the prospecting camp other than Vivian. Vivian, maybe there's like
- 28:46Speaker 1: a couple milliing around in the background, but we hardly
- 28:48Speaker 1: ever see them. And I think, what a hard life
- 28:50Speaker 1: for a mother with a baby to be living in
- 28:52Speaker 1: a tent among all these other men who are kind
- 28:54Speaker 1: of rough and gruffed. That's what I don't understand. Rebecca
- 28:57Speaker 1: be like, come or even Hattie, come stay with me
- 29:01Speaker 1: with your newborn baby. No, wouldn't you extend? Oh well good? Yeah, yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 1: Like I know the boarding house isn't much, but it's
- 29:10Speaker 1: better than a tent living out in the weather. And
- 29:13Speaker 1: they had a really bad storm that night. I have
- 29:16Speaker 1: a question when they come back and the tent is destroyed.
- 29:20Speaker 1: She's like, well, we can't have a messhole without a
- 29:21Speaker 1: place to eat. Why it's not raining, you can sit
- 29:25Speaker 1: at tables and eat. So did do you every other night?
- 29:28Speaker 1: Take it to go? I don't understand if they're eating
- 29:30Speaker 1: dinner in their tent or around the fire or wherever else.
- 29:34Speaker 1: They all had their like cups. Yeah, when she's walking around,
- 29:37Speaker 1: why can't they Why do you you don't need a
- 29:41Speaker 1: dining hall in order to serve food. I know she
- 29:45Speaker 1: was out, she was gonna make pancakes that morning. Build
- 29:50Speaker 1: your house. I wonder if they were gonna be free again.
- 29:55Speaker 1: She's like, I got you with the gumbo, now I'm
- 29:57Speaker 1: gonna get you with the pancakes. Who doesn't a pancake?
- 30:00Speaker 1: I agree, But yeah, your boarding house is not gonna
- 30:04Speaker 1: get done. I get you to focus, girlfriend, I understand.
- 30:08Speaker 1: It's if you give a massive cookie over here all
- 30:09Speaker 1: day long. But we're never gonna get this place up
- 30:11Speaker 1: and running. All right, that's a wrap on our thoughts
