Latest / Amazing Life Breakthrough / Ep 28 | JUICE and the First Push: How Momentum Finds You When You Move
Transcript
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Have you ever noticed how stuck doesn't always feel dramatic?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's quiet, you're still functioning, you're still doing life, but inside, well, you can feel that drag, like you're pushing a heavy cart with one bad wheel, and everything takes more effort than it should.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And if you're in that place right now, if you're staring at the next step and it feels heavier than it should, I just want to say this out loud.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: You're not broken, you're not lazy.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: A lot of the time, you're simply low on momentum.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And momentum is weird because we think it comes from clarity or confidence or the perfect plan.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: But most of the time, momentum comes from movement.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: It comes after you do something, anything that breaks the stuck spell.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Amazing Life Breakthrough.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I'm Steve Klein, and today I want to tell you a story from my early adult life that still makes me laugh, but it also taught me something I've never forgotten about how momentum actually works.

- 1:22SPEAKER_00: There was a season when I felt stuck, especially in the direction I really wanted to go.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I knew what I wanted long term, I wanted to build a career in high tech.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I was chasing software in the future.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: That was the dream.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: But at the time things were moving slow.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: I needed work, I needed traction, I needed something to turn the engine over.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Now here's the funny part.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: In college, I had a minor in marketing, not because I planned to become a marketer forever, but because I found it fascinating.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I loved how ideas spread, how people connected with products, how attention worked.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So I thought, why not use that skill temporarily until the high tech door opens?
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And that's when I answered a newspaper ad that sounded harmless.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: It was basically marketing and wholesale, no experience necessary, we'll train you.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking, great.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Temporary, practical, abridge season.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Little did I know what I was getting myself into.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I show up to an interview in this warehouse.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: It's kind of drafty.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Cold metal chairs.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: It feels like we're waiting for a lecture or maybe a concert.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And the manager starts talking like this is a serious opportunity.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: The sales director is confident.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: People are nodding.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking, okay, this could work.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Then they introduce the company motto, juice.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And juice stands for just use impulse correctly every day.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And at first I'm thinking, okay, that's kind of catchy.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: But then the day takes a turn, a detour, because their training wasn't training like I expected.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: It was a pep rally, like a full-on chant in a circle pep rally.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: They start clapping and saying juice, juice, juice under their breath, then louder, then faster, until they're basically shouting it.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And then the manager yells something like, How do you feel?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And the team responds with this rehearsed over-the-top line that I'm not going to fully recreate here because it was wild.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: But it ended with everyone yelling, juice, like we were about to run onto a football field.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I remember looking around, like, is this real life?
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And then they bring out the products we're going to sell, pens, calculators, and then uh the grand finale, a fuzzy puppet monkey.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: A monkey with velcro hands and feet that could cling around your neck, and when you squeezed it, it squeaked like a dog toy.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: And the experienced salespeople start making monkey noises.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: I'm not kidding.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: That was the moment I realized, Steve, you may be stuck, but you are definitely not bored anymore.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And here's what's important: as ridiculous as this sounds, it did something for me.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: It got me moving.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I was doing something, I wasn't sitting at home overthinking.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: I wasn't trapped in the what if I never spiral.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: I was out doing something awkward, funny, a little uncomfortable, learning in real time.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Because their whole model was basically take product, go into businesses, use a simple script, sell at wholesale prices, keep a small margin, repeat.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Was it my dream job?
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: No.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Was it polished?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Not exactly, but it was movement, and movement creates momentum.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Here's the breakthrough that story gave me even back then.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Sometimes the best thing you can do when you feel stuck is not think harder.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: It's move on something small, imperfect, even a little weird, just to break the inertia.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Because once I was moving, my brain started waking up again, and I started noticing things, and I started learning what worked on people, what didn't.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: I started noticing the power of energy and enthusiasm, how people respond to it, how it changes a room, and then something just clicked.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Once I got involved, even a little, I started seeing the business structure behind the business.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: I realized how much markup there was.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: I realized there wasn't much paperwork.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I realized the whole thing was limited by one thing, how fast our feet could walk.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: And I had this thought, what if I just find the supplier myself?
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Which led to something I never expected when I answered that silly ad.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: I found their supplier, I bought inventory, blue blocker, sunglasses, among other things, and I started my own little business, Klein Gifts.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: In other words, momentum didn't just help my mood, the momentum created options for me, and that's what momentum does.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: It doesn't always solve everything, especially if given only one day, but it creates possibilities that you literally could not see while you were sitting still.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: So let me make this personal for you.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: If you're stuck right now, I want you to hear this clearly.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: You don't need a grand restart.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: You don't need a perfect plan.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: You may just need your own version of juice, not the chant, not the monkey, but a small real move that gets your wheels turning again.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Here are a few momentum moves you could try, simple enough that your brain can't talk you out of them.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: If you're stuck in work or productivity, open the document and write one sentence you're allowed to delete.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: If you're stuck physically, put your shoes on and walk for three minutes.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Not thirty.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Three.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: If you are stuck emotionally, write one honest line.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Here's what I'm feeling and here's what I need.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: If you're stuck relationally, send one clean message that doesn't require a speech, just a start.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: And when you do it, pay attention to what happens inside you.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Not whether you feel inspired, just whether you feel a slight shift from frozen to moving.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: That small shift matters more than you think.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Because momentum is not a personality trait.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: It's the byproduct of movement repeated.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the movement that changes your life starts with something that looks small or awkward or temporary and or even a little silly.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: But it gets you out of the chair.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: And once you're out of the chair, you can steer.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Now I want to set you up for what's coming next.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: This episode is the spark, the first push.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: But in our next episode, coming Thursday, just two days from now, we're going to go deeper into how to rebuild momentum when life has been heavy for a while.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: We'll talk about practical ways you could lower the friction, shrink the first step, and build a momentum-friendly environment.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Things that, if you implement them, could start giving you a clearer direction and a stronger sense of traction over time.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: No hype, no promises, just real tools that could help.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: But for today, here's your simple challenge.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Before your day ends, choose one momentum move, five minutes or less.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Do it imperfectly.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: Do it without waiting to feel ready.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And then when it's done, let that be evidence.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Evidence that you're not stuck forever.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Evidence that you can move, and evidence is fuel.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: I'm Steve Klein, and this is Amazing Life Breakthrough.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: If this episode helped you, consider sharing it with someone who might be going through something similar.
