- 0:04Speaker 1: Fishing Filtered, Episode one oh seven, and we have a
- 0:07Speaker 1: very special guest if Auto Lopez, shortstop for the Miami Marlins. Otto,
- 0:12Speaker 1: how are we doing? Just before we talk about your
- 0:15Speaker 1: season so far? Just six out of seven games you
- 0:19Speaker 1: guys have won? Now, what has been working for the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Miami Marlins within the last two weeks?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Hi? Hi, guys, what's up? I would say, what has
- 0:29Speaker 2: been working so far?
- 0:30Speaker 3: I was so many quality that bad that we haven't
- 0:33Speaker 3: take these couple of days and a should The defense
- 0:38Speaker 3: is good, the pitching, I mean, all the little details
- 0:43Speaker 3: that we put it into, like it's it's all working
- 0:46Speaker 3: so far.
- 0:47Speaker 2: So we feel pretty good what we've been doing. Our
- 0:50Speaker 2: work at the field. Uh.
- 0:54Speaker 4: You know, you're coming off a year where you struggled
- 0:56Speaker 4: a little bit against some left handed pitching, and now
- 0:58Speaker 4: this year it's gonna been a comple polar opposite.
- 1:00Speaker 5: You are absolutely demolishing opposite sided pitching. What work did
- 1:05Speaker 5: you do over the off season to be able to
- 1:07Speaker 5: have such incredible numbers slugging over a thousand against last
- 1:10Speaker 5: ended pitching?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Just what's got into that change?
- 1:13Speaker 3: It's all about, like you just said, like the numbers
- 1:17Speaker 3: we'll see in Uh, I'll be able to sit down
- 1:21Speaker 3: and look at it like.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Where I had to be.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I had to be better like work on those details
- 1:28Speaker 3: and like right now, like I'm working like a lot
- 1:31Speaker 3: of more angles machines, like seeing different angle for a
- 1:37Speaker 3: match up kind of like the lefties and pitching side.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And I would say, is have me give me like
- 1:44Speaker 3: more comforting off the plate facing those lefties and even
- 1:49Speaker 3: like sigh arms and I feel pretty good so far.
- 1:53Speaker 3: What like the work that I did in the off
- 1:55Speaker 3: season and what I'm showing now.
- 1:59Speaker 6: When you do those different angles from different machines and stuff,
- 2:04Speaker 6: are you going more for a feel in the box
- 2:07Speaker 6: or is it more a visual thing? What what makes
- 2:10Speaker 6: you feel more comfortable? And why why do you do
- 2:12Speaker 6: those specific things.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's a little bit about though, of course, the feeling.
- 2:16Speaker 3: It's when you practice and you want to feel good
- 2:20Speaker 3: and actually like see like different angles and make you
- 2:23Speaker 3: like get your feeling of being comfortable on facing like
- 2:29Speaker 3: different angle. So like what I'm trying to do is
- 2:32Speaker 3: no matter where I put the machine or where angle
- 2:35Speaker 3: what I would I be facing. I just trying to
- 2:39Speaker 3: like just feel comfortable and feel the position that I
- 2:42Speaker 3: can be strong and swing alto.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Another big change for you this season is the bad speed.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It's it's way up at like two or three miles
- 2:50Speaker 1: an hour quicker. You're hitting for more power, which I'm
- 2:54Speaker 1: assuming definitely has to do with the bad speed.
- 2:55Speaker 2: What would you attribute to that?
- 2:56Speaker 1: I know you guys use something called the stack bag,
- 2:58Speaker 1: if you can maybe talk about that a little bit.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Who introduced that to and and how much of the
- 3:03Speaker 1: help is that actually?
- 3:05Speaker 2: When then when you can translate onto the field.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah, the stag has been uh I would say the
- 3:12Speaker 3: Applaus for us. Joe there, our director hitting coach, he
- 3:18Speaker 3: he was the one bringing this.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Spind training and.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I say it has to make a huge different of
- 3:27Speaker 3: my vellows the swing. But yeah, it has been a
- 3:31Speaker 3: lot of help to like just uh maintaining those feeds
- 3:35Speaker 3: on and being comfortable swinging on like on the games
- 3:39Speaker 3: because it's a little bit different because you have to
- 3:42Speaker 3: see the ball and swing hard as you can, but
- 3:46Speaker 3: like a Perticio Percisio spot, you.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Know, uhlo I will follow up on that.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Another sort of innovative thing that the Mardels have incorporated
- 3:56Speaker 5: is using these I guess lighter balls or software balls
- 3:59Speaker 5: should say, for batting practice. When I first heard, I
- 4:02Speaker 5: thought it was a little bit peculiar, just because you know,
- 4:04Speaker 5: once you do face a real baj lely basedball and
- 4:06Speaker 5: you get jammed a little bit's gonna feel a little
- 4:08Speaker 5: bit of a shock to your hands.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And how how do you feel about these.
- 4:12Speaker 4: You know, different sort of balls being used during batting
- 4:14Speaker 4: practice versus a real game.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, like it move feels like incredibles.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Makes it makes it like a different and then the
- 4:26Speaker 3: real ball. So when you're facing those those small of
- 4:30Speaker 3: the balls, it's kind of like moves to the angle,
- 4:33Speaker 3: like it goes like right up and infusing thinking it
- 4:36Speaker 3: just it just makes it harder to have a gun deck.
- 4:41Speaker 3: And I would say, like that's what we're trying to
- 4:43Speaker 3: do here with the Marlins. Make a more realistic to
- 4:48Speaker 3: the game, so we when we get to the game,
- 4:50Speaker 3: it makes it easier.
- 4:52Speaker 5: So so regular balls they dive less than these balls.
- 4:57Speaker 4: It's like it's easier, it's easier to hit and every yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Kind of not easier to hit because.
- 5:05Speaker 3: You know, but like the more harder you make the practice,
- 5:10Speaker 3: like that's how we see in it. The more hard
- 5:13Speaker 3: we make the practice, the more like games.
- 5:16Speaker 6: So it would be helpful whenever you're facing a guy
- 5:21Speaker 6: that has a lot of ride on his fastball, because
- 5:24Speaker 6: in your mind, when you're seeing a regular baseball, your
- 5:27Speaker 6: mind is telling you usually it ends up at a
- 5:29Speaker 6: certain spot. But some guys have better carry. So you're
- 5:33Speaker 6: able to raise your eyesight and you can practice that
- 5:35Speaker 6: almost trick your mind because you have to swing on
- 5:38Speaker 6: top of some of those you think get on top
- 5:41Speaker 6: of the ball, correct, right, That are some of the
- 5:43Speaker 6: vocabulary when there's the guys that ride.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's kind of like what you say, but
- 5:47Speaker 3: like what it does is it has the ride, but
- 5:50Speaker 3: with with doseball that they're so much lighter than the
- 5:55Speaker 3: regular ball, so it has more spin. So uh, it
- 5:58Speaker 3: just make your your swing, like we'll say the regular
- 6:03Speaker 3: buzz just ride a little bit or like less than
- 6:07Speaker 3: what you're thinking, but you exaggerate a little bit more to.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Swing off be on top. So when the game was happening,
- 6:14Speaker 2: I know, when you're in the game, like.
- 6:16Speaker 3: You're not thinking about that, but like your train your
- 6:19Speaker 3: mind to just get on top or like depends on
- 6:23Speaker 3: what phase, what picture you're going to face that day.
- 6:25Speaker 7: With over thirty five million downloads, seakeeek is the number
- 6:28Speaker 7: one rated ticketing app and crats. There are many many
- 6:33Speaker 7: baseball games on the inventory to check out all summer long.

- 6:40Speaker 7: Not many other options for your sports wise. I know
- 6:42Speaker 7: you can go anywhere you want to go with Seakeek.
- 6:44Speaker 7: There's so many tickets to choose from, but baseball center stage.
- 6:47Speaker 7: Now for the next couple months.
- 6:49Speaker 8: School's out, I'm going to watch some baseball games, some
- 6:52Speaker 8: big league games, all in my area, and I want
- 6:54Speaker 8: to know exactly what it looks like. And I also
- 6:57Speaker 8: want the best deal, so I'm looking for the Green,
- 6:59Speaker 8: not the.
- 7:00Speaker 7: That's right there. Green hooks you up with the best
- 7:02Speaker 7: deals on the app. Of course, we have the code
- 7:05Speaker 7: it's Territory ten for ten percent off your next set

- 7:10Speaker 7: MLB tickets with the promo code Territory one zero. Make
- 7:15Speaker 7: sure you click the link in the description of this
- 7:17Speaker 7: episode that'll download the app if you don't have it already,
- 7:20Speaker 7: and you'll have the code automatically added to your account
- 7:23Speaker 7: so that you can use that code later.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Thank you. See geek altho.
- 7:26Speaker 4: How would you discover evaluate your season defensively, I'm curious.
- 7:30Speaker 4: So we're obviously all used to you being one of
- 7:32Speaker 4: the better defensive shorts ups in Major League Baseball. You're
- 7:35Speaker 4: still grading out tremendously well, but it just feels neither
- 7:37Speaker 4: are a couple more plays than there were last year,
- 7:39Speaker 4: or maybe you didn't get to How.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Would you evaluate your defense this year? I would say
- 7:44Speaker 2: it's been good.
- 7:45Speaker 3: I know I've been working like more than a little
- 7:49Speaker 3: details that be put it like arrows and stuff, but
- 7:53Speaker 3: like I will.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Viothering my stuff to more.
- 7:58Speaker 3: See what I did and see what I can work
- 8:00Speaker 3: for and like seeing the past what like I did
- 8:03Speaker 3: wrong and more get better this year. So what I'm
- 8:07Speaker 3: training is like right now, like I go early in
- 8:10Speaker 3: the game, I go early practice and just work on
- 8:14Speaker 3: those those little things like it makes it like like
- 8:18Speaker 3: we're doing in the cage, like make it like harder.
- 8:21Speaker 2: So in the game too, it became a little bit easier.
- 8:25Speaker 1: What's the toughest part of the transition that you had
- 8:27Speaker 1: to make going from second base to shortstop? But what's
- 8:29Speaker 1: the biggest thing you took away from that? What was
- 8:32Speaker 1: the toughest part of it? And overall, just what's your
- 8:35Speaker 1: comfort level at the position.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Right now, I have to throw harder. I have to
- 8:40Speaker 3: throw harder and move a little bit more my feet.
- 8:43Speaker 2: So it's just those two changes that I've been just
- 8:47Speaker 2: changed so far.
- 8:49Speaker 6: Yeah, you and you and X up the middle are
- 8:52Speaker 6: two of the best in the league defensively and offensively.
- 8:55Speaker 6: Obviously when you when you combined, how much did playing
- 8:59Speaker 6: with him in twenty twenty five help with the the
- 9:03Speaker 6: I guess the connection or the feel with him, how
- 9:09Speaker 6: much did that help you guys be better defensively?
- 9:12Speaker 2: It helps a lot being you player to the guys.
- 9:17Speaker 3: You would just spread like the last couple of years,
- 9:21Speaker 3: just rebuild a connection and it is great and great
- 9:25Speaker 3: so every where we do like we're trying to do
- 9:28Speaker 3: it together so like we can know each other a
- 9:30Speaker 3: little bit more.
- 9:32Speaker 2: So I would say it's pretty good so far. Now.
- 9:37Speaker 6: So I've been trying to come up with like a
- 9:38Speaker 6: dual name. I don't want to say Batman and Robin
- 9:40Speaker 6: because both of you guys are like the Batman. I
- 9:42Speaker 6: don't know, maybe like Batman and Superman.
- 9:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:44Speaker 6: If you have a better one, let me know, But
- 9:46Speaker 6: do you think that you two, you and X are
- 9:49Speaker 6: the best up, the in the middle, infielders, the best
- 9:53Speaker 6: in the game right.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Now, I would say so, like, I feel pretty comfortable
- 9:59Speaker 3: on who I have on my side, so I'll say
- 10:03Speaker 3: yes for myself and an next knowing that the work
- 10:09Speaker 3: that he's done like so far, it's incredible to see
- 10:12Speaker 3: that and just be part of that Louis Fabi.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Like seeing him growing and even like making plays. It's
- 10:23Speaker 2: I would say, to how you do it? Alto just a.
- 10:29Speaker 9: Little bit more than a couple of years ago, you
- 10:31Speaker 9: had been designated for assignment twice within a month, right
- 10:34Speaker 9: and now a couple of years later, you're sitting here
- 10:36Speaker 9: leading Major League Baseball and hits, you're tearing the cover
- 10:39Speaker 9: of the ball, and you are potential to be a National.
- 10:42Speaker 2: League All Star this season.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Because what does that feel like to know that you've
- 10:46Speaker 4: come so far to potentially be a nationally All Star?
- 10:50Speaker 3: You just said, man, I come from so from so far,
- 10:53Speaker 3: and going back to those days, it's I remember like
- 10:59Speaker 3: it was tough. I even told myself that I couldn't
- 11:04Speaker 3: made it again. So when I got the change with
- 11:07Speaker 3: the Marlins, I would tell myself that I was the
- 11:09Speaker 3: only tent and I have to like take advantage of.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Them, And.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Oh man, I go flashback, and like I get emotional
- 11:21Speaker 3: because in that moment, nobody was there for like believe
- 11:25Speaker 3: in me. And so now that like I have put
- 11:29Speaker 3: so much work on and seeing what I've been done,
- 11:33Speaker 3: it's it's another type of emotion, you.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Know, Auto, you have a lot of people watching this,
- 11:41Speaker 1: a lot of Marlins fans who want to hear from me.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Why why should Auto Lopez be representing the Miami Marlins
- 11:46Speaker 1: in the twenty twenty six All Star Game this year?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Oh man, all the work that I've been putting in,
- 11:52Speaker 2: all the.
- 11:54Speaker 3: How the did this treat the how the team has
- 11:58Speaker 3: treated me, how defense by how cheering me.
- 12:01Speaker 2: It is something special.
- 12:03Speaker 3: I wish I wish I could just represent the Marlins
- 12:07Speaker 3: at the All Star Break, at the All Star.
- 12:11Speaker 2: It's gonna be so fun.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I know this experience that I've been dreaming forever and
- 12:17Speaker 3: and I can't wait.
- 12:20Speaker 10: And I'm sure a J can can attest to this,
- 12:23Speaker 10: But this is one of you and X are one
- 12:25Speaker 10: of the better middle infields in Marlin's history, and a
- 12:28Speaker 10: J was there for a lot of decord and the
- 12:29Speaker 10: Danniege of for Rea.
- 12:31Speaker 11: I think you guys surpassed them, maybe Hanley and Uglo
- 12:33Speaker 11: that could be the next step. Before we let you
- 12:37Speaker 11: go Auto, we have a couple of quick, rapid fire
- 12:40Speaker 11: questions for you if we got a couple of minutes. Well, first,
- 12:43Speaker 11: before we do that, when I ask you about the
- 12:44Speaker 11: World Baseball Classic.
- 12:45Speaker 2: This year play for team, can I dispose that experience?
- 12:48Speaker 3: Like, Oh, the experience was amazing, I would say, always
- 12:53Speaker 3: saying right now every time the players asking me, uh,
- 12:58Speaker 3: they asked me yesterday too, and it's it was one
- 13:02Speaker 3: of the things that I just fired me on for
- 13:04Speaker 3: the season most like because the experience it was so
- 13:09Speaker 3: much like playoff games, even like when I played like
- 13:13Speaker 3: in dr like it was it was so emotional that
- 13:17Speaker 3: that it's just game ready, like screen training is a
- 13:20Speaker 3: little bit different because everybody's getting ready and but like
- 13:24Speaker 3: those game is.
- 13:25Speaker 2: More like competing, like you see pictures that you never phaze.
- 13:31Speaker 3: And and just compete against other countries.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Like also one's the best for them.
- 13:38Speaker 7: Support for today's episode comes from Square, and they've got

- 14:41Speaker 4: We're You've played in pretty much every single Major League ballpark.
- 14:44Speaker 11: I would like to know your favorite stadium to play it,
- 14:47Speaker 11: and your least favorite.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Oh, Miami is the best? Yes, yes, yes, And get
- 14:55Speaker 2: to the guys.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I'll be asking the same questions and they all say
- 14:59Speaker 3: the same thing.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Is the best field I ever play? And not because
- 15:05Speaker 2: it is my team, not because of that.
- 15:07Speaker 3: It's more like field like stadium, like I don't know,
- 15:14Speaker 3: like something here, it's it's very fun to play.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And least favorite. I don't. No, I like them all.
- 15:25Speaker 3: That I liked less because this is a dream that
- 15:27Speaker 3: I've been dreamed to playing the big and play god.
- 15:32Speaker 6: So like, there was a field that I didn't like.
- 15:34Speaker 6: It was the new Atlanta Stadium because I didn't pitch
- 15:37Speaker 6: good there. I believes there, and I'm like, I don't
- 15:41Speaker 6: like that part. I like the old Turner field. So
- 15:43Speaker 6: that but of course, so like you know, you play
- 15:47Speaker 6: in the Big League, of course I like every field.
- 15:49Speaker 6: I'm in the big This is my dream, but my dream.
- 15:52Speaker 6: But when I kind of dissected a little bit more,
- 15:54Speaker 6: I was like, Nah, that new well, I don't even
- 15:57Speaker 6: know what that park.
- 15:58Speaker 3: If I don't hit good in one party, I might
- 16:01Speaker 3: be saying that one there you go.
- 16:03Speaker 6: Yeah, that's play for you.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Right now.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I was gonna say, he's just sitting everywhere, so it
- 16:07Speaker 4: doesn't help much.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I'm going to.
- 16:09Speaker 5: Compare the two answers after Auto gives says, I'm gonna
- 16:11Speaker 5: ask how.
- 16:11Speaker 2: They compare to A j is really quick.
- 16:12Speaker 5: We're gonna talk about the clubhouse food on the road.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I'm not gonna let you talk about the Marlin Stadium anymore.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Clubhouse food on the road.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Who has the best clubhouse food in Major League Baseball?
- 16:24Speaker 3: No, the clubhouse, I say stuff, because all of them
- 16:35Speaker 3: has been good. I like New York, but the Yankees one, okay,
- 16:41Speaker 3: I know the chef to uh oh okay, well and.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Far of marlings to. I mean there's so many, but.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Like the Yankees.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we went one time this year, so right,
- 17:01Speaker 3: but I know that raff.
- 17:02Speaker 2: It's one of their friends in the RS. So he
- 17:06Speaker 2: when I man, I was like, oh, you work here
- 17:09Speaker 2: and get trate as well.
- 17:11Speaker 6: It's do you know why it's the Yankees because they
- 17:14Speaker 6: do that on purpose.
- 17:15Speaker 2: They have all that good to get there.
- 17:17Speaker 6: They try to get you fat so the next day
- 17:19Speaker 6: you're playing Fuggers. They have the best food in the league,
- 17:23Speaker 6: Like they have the cross stations, they have all these.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Different you were there too, so you know, yeah, I know.
- 17:30Speaker 6: I playing there, I would leave there fifteen pounds heavier
- 17:34Speaker 6: because they got all the stuff there. It's a tactic, man,
- 17:37Speaker 6: I'm on there. I even told the Jeff last time
- 17:38Speaker 6: I was there, I was like, yeah, I can get
- 17:40Speaker 6: fat now. When I was playing here, I didn't eat
- 17:41Speaker 6: here because I know what you'all trying to do.
