- 0:00Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests your ninety three
- 0:03Speaker 1: point three JJRFL sports headlines.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning, Happy Monday, Thanks for being with us, Greg Bell.
- 0:09Speaker 2: The Seahawks training camp headlines and brought to you by
- 0:12Speaker 2: Frost Food. Of course, light cheers, chill, last half hour.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The Mariners have traded with Baltimore to add Now they
- 0:19Speaker 2: bought they sold Luis gas Steele. We'll talk about that
- 0:22Speaker 2: this weekend of the White Sox. But today they added
- 0:25Speaker 2: traded with Baltimore, got veteran outfitter Taylor Ward. The Ms
- 0:29Speaker 2: give up Arita, Alex Hoppey and two minor leaguers not
- 0:31Speaker 2: on their top prospects ex. Brockmore Harrison criving to Baltimore.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Wards thirty two years old. He's a rental. He's on
- 0:37Speaker 2: a one year proven deal with Baltimore. Had thirty six
- 0:39Speaker 2: home runs last year as the Angels right fielder. He's
- 0:42Speaker 2: the left fielder this year for Baltimore. He's now an
- 0:45Speaker 2: on bass guy. He's gone from thirty six home runs
- 0:47Speaker 2: to seven and now leads the American League in walks
- 0:49Speaker 2: with eighty seven. Taylor Ward, thirty two years old, on
- 0:53Speaker 2: his way to the Mariners outfield I'd as soon played
- 0:56Speaker 2: right field where he did for the Angels. Leave a
- 0:58Speaker 2: Rosrena and left. They shouldn't have traded Rosary. They better
- 1:01Speaker 2: Nott Trader Rosary than he ever bet they can get
- 1:04Speaker 2: He's he hits left handed pitching. That's another reason that
- 1:07Speaker 2: Taylor Ward is now going to the Mariners. The Mariners
- 1:10Speaker 2: event Forul weekend ended with their first series winning a
- 1:12Speaker 2: month consecutive walk off wins over the Twins of the Yard.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Cold Emerson did this in the bottom of the ninth
- 1:17Speaker 2: to win it one two live. They said, dog game,
- 1:22Speaker 2: cold Emerson his first career walk up dog and the
- 1:26Speaker 2: Mariners take down the Twins and nine seven to six.
- 1:30Speaker 2: They walk them on for the second and second a day. Yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 2: that's Aron Goldsmith on Mariners TV. The second consecutive walk
- 1:37Speaker 2: off Cal Rawley double playball that got botched by the
- 1:40Speaker 2: Twins first baseman was the walk off on Saturday. So
- 1:42Speaker 2: they get the series win. But the trash Cans have
- 1:45Speaker 2: won six in a row. They swept Texas, I mean
- 1:49Speaker 2: swept Texas right out of it. I mean, Rangers are
- 1:52Speaker 2: reportedly not gonna sell everybody on the team. After that loss.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We talked to the beat right last week. They said
- 1:57Speaker 2: that this week would be make or break for Texas,
- 1:58Speaker 2: and they broke. The trash Cans are up by two
- 2:01Speaker 2: and a half over Texas in three over the Mariners.
- 2:05Speaker 2: How many times just when we said, all you are
- 2:06Speaker 2: a six game win streak from first place company.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I mean we that's all we need. And then they
- 2:12Speaker 3: did it. The Trashcans did it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Big marinersers. Of course, Over the weekend, Jerry Poto traded
- 2:18Speaker 2: Luis Castilla to the Chicago White Sox. The Socks are
- 2:21Speaker 2: going to take on all of his money twenty three
- 2:23Speaker 2: the pro ration of the twenty three million this year,
- 2:25Speaker 2: the twenty three million guaranteed next year, and the contract
- 2:28Speaker 2: option that Castillo has for twenty twenty eight. A clean break.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I can't believe you did that. For one of the
- 2:33Speaker 2: back of baseball. The White Sox gave the Mariners right
- 2:36Speaker 2: handed pitcher Sir Anthony Dominguez outfit or Nolan Jones center
- 2:40Speaker 2: outfit or Boston Smith, formerly the White sox number fifteen
- 2:43Speaker 2: prospect through Major League Baseball. Now he's Seattle's fourteenth best
- 2:48Speaker 2: prospect according to MLB dot Com. Marriers are off today.
- 2:51Speaker 2: They begin a home series against Detroit tomorrow or trade
- 2:54Speaker 2: deadline news. Of course, we know the Tigers traded Trek
- 2:57Speaker 2: scobl to the Dodgers the Death Star. They have all
- 3:00Speaker 2: the great players in the sport.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Now, did they even need anything more?
- 3:04Speaker 4: No, exactly, They're just kind of showing off at this point.
- 3:08Speaker 2: They'll just keep deferring contracts into the thirtieth century and
- 3:12Speaker 2: worry about it later. Cups acquired starter Kevin Gosman from Toronto.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Looks like the Blue Jays are selling off, But then
- 3:19Speaker 2: Toronto traded for the future when they traded with the
- 3:22Speaker 2: Angels to get the Angel starter Jose Soriano for its staff,
- 3:25Speaker 2: a replace in Gosman. Philadelphia this morning traded for the
- 3:27Speaker 2: Giants second Maasemon in abutting champion Luis Ariahs. The Yankees
- 3:31Speaker 2: traded with the Nationals get Sucker. Luis got Sia Junior.
- 3:34Speaker 2: The mL trade deadline is three pm today. Are the
- 3:37Speaker 2: Mariner's done? They got else to do? What else you
- 3:39Speaker 2: want them to do? Four nine, four to five one
- 3:41Speaker 2: at the COMADADGS text on We'll be back to text
- 3:42Speaker 2: eleven thirty Seahawks eight practice camp right here today. They're
- 3:46Speaker 2: off Yesterday seventh practice was jas N versus Witherspoon one
- 3:49Speaker 2: on one. I'll talk to you about that. Elijah Roy
- 3:52Speaker 2: is having a really strong camp with Brian Fleury's tight
- 3:54Speaker 2: end centric offense. We'll talk about that first episode of
- 3:57Speaker 2: Hard Knocks tomorrow nine pm on HBO. Sounders lost their
- 4:01Speaker 2: sixth straight match two one at Portland Saturday. Has read
- 4:04Speaker 2: right here on the ninety three point three the Storm
- 4:06Speaker 2: or at the New York Liberty Today on a seven
- 4:10Speaker 2: sixth game losing streak. The Rain beat a BAYFC team
- 4:13Speaker 2: three to two Saturday, and this morning, Maurice Pochettino remember him,
- 4:17Speaker 2: He has a deal to remain in the US men's
- 4:19Speaker 2: national soccer coach through the twenty thirty World Cup.
- 4:22Speaker 3: We got him farther than they have gotten in quite
- 4:24Speaker 3: a bit.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So well, we hit that wall around the sixteen, just
- 4:28Speaker 2: like a Berlin wall to the US.
- 4:30Speaker 4: They did hit that, but yeah, I don't know. I
- 4:34Speaker 4: didn't find there to be fireable offenses.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Now on with the Monday Show, Jessman McIntyre back in
- 4:41Speaker 2: early at based Studios in Seattle.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Good morning, ma'am, good morning, how was your weekend?
- 4:46Speaker 2: Awesome? The very Seattle Northwest weekend?
- 4:49Speaker 3: Thank you yeah, would in camp O, Kayaking.
- 4:53Speaker 2: No, we stayed local. We stayed urban. Actually, we went
- 4:55Speaker 2: to the Ed Shearon Show. My wife loves Ed Shearon.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Our daughter I saw your post that.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Yeah, our daughter gave my wife two tickets to the
- 5:04Speaker 2: Ed Sheering Show for Christmas. So we were on the floor.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I've never really been on the floor for a stadium show.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Its pretty interesting. Yeah, it was a great show. I
- 5:12Speaker 2: mean he played for about three hours and my wife
- 5:16Speaker 2: was singing. I knew a few of the songs, but
- 5:18Speaker 2: she was singing to all of them, and he at
- 5:21Speaker 2: the last after he came out from the encore for
- 5:23Speaker 2: the last three songs. He was wearing a gray Seahawks
- 5:26Speaker 2: rivalry series jersey that the ones they wore against the
- 5:29Speaker 2: Rams last December. But it didn't have a number on it.
- 5:32Speaker 2: It looked weird. It was like he was a knockoff
- 5:34Speaker 2: or something. It was just numberless. Thought. I thought he
- 5:38Speaker 2: should have had a Sam Donald number because he's a redhead.
- 5:41Speaker 2: He has kind of passing resemblance to Sam Donald. Cheering.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah, the ginger stick together usually.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yes, it was packed. The place was packed. Floor, seating
- 5:51Speaker 2: was packed. I thought it was a great show. Three
- 5:53Speaker 2: hours of Ed Shearing and then yes, three hours. Yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 2: a long show. Well, the opening a start at six o'clock.
- 6:00Speaker 2: We didn't get either till eleven. I didn't. We didn't
- 6:02Speaker 2: go for the very first act. But there were two
- 6:04Speaker 2: opening acts Hu and then he played for three hours
- 6:07Speaker 2: that Sharon did, Thank you Ed. They had a stage
- 6:11Speaker 2: that went from the two stages. They had a stage
- 6:13Speaker 2: that was back in the normal set, and then they
- 6:15Speaker 2: had a bridge that kept coming in and on a
- 6:17Speaker 2: mechanical bridge that he would walk across, and then when
- 6:20Speaker 2: he got onto the second front stage, it was really
- 6:22Speaker 2: close to us. It was a cool deal.
- 6:23Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 6:24Speaker 2: They've also it's now the Sphere, at least his concert
- 6:29Speaker 2: the influence of the Sphere. Have you ever been to
- 6:30Speaker 2: a show at the Sphere?
- 6:31Speaker 3: No, I haven't. Yes, you mean yeah, no.
- 6:34Speaker 2: We saw you too there when Washington and Oregon played
- 6:37Speaker 2: the PAC twelve championship game, my wife flew down. I
- 6:39Speaker 2: was covering it, and we flew down for the next night.
- 6:41Speaker 2: The U two showed the Sphere a couple of years ago,
- 6:44Speaker 2: and the giant screen is just all these colors and
- 6:47Speaker 2: a kaleidoscope of colors, and it's visually overstimulating, distracting almost.
- 6:52Speaker 3: That's because you were probably not impaired enough. Well, yeah,
- 6:57Speaker 3: those are done for some other things.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly. And but at Sharon's stage was that
- 7:05Speaker 2: it was the whole stage and my wife and I
- 7:07Speaker 2: were like, we kind of just like to focus on
- 7:09Speaker 2: him playing all his guitars. And he has this really
- 7:12Speaker 2: cool he calls this tour the Loop Tour, and he
- 7:16Speaker 2: has a device that he explained at the very start
- 7:18Speaker 2: of the show. At his feet are pedals, like drum pedals, yep.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And he's a literally he's a one man band, and
- 7:25Speaker 2: he'll play. If he wants to do percussion, he'll pound
- 7:27Speaker 2: on the drum with his hands. Yeah, and then yeah,
- 7:32Speaker 2: and he did it the whole show. And he would
- 7:35Speaker 2: bring out a keyboard every once in a while and
- 7:36Speaker 2: start a keyboard and that would be his track for
- 7:39Speaker 2: the song and loop it and yeah. So it's called
- 7:42Speaker 2: the Loop Tour and he was using it the whole time,
- 7:44Speaker 2: and they were, yeah, I thought that was kind of interesting,
- 7:46Speaker 2: But I, yeah, I could do without the sphere, Like
- 7:48Speaker 2: the whole stage was the screen. I mean, I was
- 7:51Speaker 2: trying to be nicer to just focus on him anyway.
- 7:54Speaker 3: That's really cool though.
- 7:56Speaker 2: It was.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw Howie Day is the first person I
- 7:59Speaker 4: ever saw do that do the loop and phenomenal performance.
- 8:03Speaker 3: So I always enjoy it when musicians do that.
- 8:06Speaker 2: And then yesterday we saw the Blue Angels canceled. On Saturday,
- 8:10Speaker 2: we were out here of practice and right wait where
- 8:12Speaker 2: the Blue Angels at about three o'clock the wind. Yeah, and
- 8:16Speaker 2: if you for those, it might have been upset that
- 8:18Speaker 2: they were canceled. If there's wind for the Blue Angels,
- 8:20Speaker 2: that's a problem because if there are a couple inches
- 8:23Speaker 2: off when they're measurements and timing, they crash and die.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I was at Mariner's, you know, reporting for the station
- 8:30Speaker 4: on Friday, and we got to see them fly over
- 8:34Speaker 4: in practice. You're talking inches, like you said, the four
- 8:37Speaker 4: men and four plane formation that they make when it's
- 8:40Speaker 4: kind of looks like a diamond. Yeah, they could like
- 8:44Speaker 4: throw a piece of gum at each other.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And then at the end at six, the show closes
- 8:48Speaker 2: with six of them going across Lake Washington. Yeah, you
- 8:50Speaker 2: have to be exactly per Yes, I had to laugh
- 8:53Speaker 2: when Bud Clark on Saturday. So the Blue Angels, the
- 8:57Speaker 2: pilots came out on Friday night to the Seahawks, as
- 9:00Speaker 2: they often do, Mike McDonald invited them to talk about
- 9:04Speaker 2: their training program and their discipline, and the mental and
- 9:06Speaker 2: physical discipline is unbelievable. I mean, you can't scratch your eye,
- 9:09Speaker 2: you can't wipe sweat off your brow, the g forces
- 9:12Speaker 2: of them when they drop, and keep yourself from passing out.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You have to be physically and mentally incredibly in shape.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And he was. They were explaining all this to the
- 9:21Speaker 2: Seahawks on Friday night. So someone has Bud Clark after
- 9:24Speaker 2: practice on Saturday about the visit for the Blue Angels,
- 9:27Speaker 2: and he was like, the rookie safety, second round pick. Yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 2: they train and practice like we do. We practice similar
- 9:33Speaker 2: to them, and it's the kind of the same day.
- 9:35Speaker 2: We share a lot of the sand. And I'm thinking, no, sir, no, no, no,
- 9:38Speaker 2: it's different.
- 9:39Speaker 3: It's not even close different.
- 9:41Speaker 2: If Bud Clark is a step out, he gets yelled
- 9:43Speaker 2: at by a coach. Blue ages are step out. They
- 9:46Speaker 2: crash and burn and die at. Nobody in the world
- 9:52Speaker 2: trains and is precise and is mentally physically tough as
- 9:55Speaker 2: the Blue Angels. Those they're amazing, they really are. But Yeah,
- 9:58Speaker 2: yesterday's show was awesome across like Washington. We got out
- 10:01Speaker 2: on the paddleboards right off Madrona Beach and they come
- 10:04Speaker 2: right over your head there.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I only did that once. I was on a boat.
- 10:08Speaker 4: It was a small one, but I only did it
- 10:10Speaker 4: once out there on Lake Washington, and it was an
- 10:13Speaker 4: experience I'll never forget.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's if you haven't done it, go out. It's
- 10:17Speaker 2: great to see from the shore. But if you get
- 10:20Speaker 2: some kind of craft a boat or even just paddleboards
- 10:23Speaker 2: or kayaks and go out over the water, they fly
- 10:25Speaker 2: right over you, just north of the I ninety bridge.
- 10:28Speaker 2: So that's what we did. Yes it was a very
- 10:30Speaker 2: Seattle Pacific Northwest day week. Hopefully you had a great
- 10:33Speaker 2: weekend too. On the show today while we had your
- 10:37Speaker 2: chance to win one thousand dollars thanks to bellvy Rare

- 11:01Speaker 2: Ian FINESSI have words for you between twelve and three,
- 11:05Speaker 2: A lot of words in fact, including chances to win
- 11:07Speaker 2: one thousand. What's on the show night as well. It's
- 11:10Speaker 2: the Major League Baseball trade deadline and the Mariners are
- 11:12Speaker 2: right in the middle of it. They just traded for
- 11:13Speaker 2: Taylor Ward this morning, the outfielder from the Baltimore Orioles,
- 11:17Speaker 2: thirty two years old. It's a rental. He's on a
- 11:20Speaker 2: one year deal pro rated twelve million. The Mariners are
- 11:23Speaker 2: going to take on. They traded three pitching minor two
- 11:27Speaker 2: minor league pitchers not in their top prospect list, and
- 11:30Speaker 2: Alex Hoppy, who we've seen at times here at the
- 11:31Speaker 2: Mariners not perform all that great. So it's not they're
- 11:34Speaker 2: not giving up much. You shouldn't for a rental who's
- 11:37Speaker 2: thirty two years old. We'll see how Taylor Ward fits in.
- 11:41Speaker 2: He's an outfield He played mostly right field with the Angels.
- 11:44Speaker 2: He's played left field exclusively this year for the Orioles.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I'd have to think he goes into the right field.
- 11:49Speaker 2: They should keep a Rose arena for they need offense
- 11:52Speaker 2: and then don Canzone maybe the guy who moves to
- 11:55Speaker 2: designated hitter with Ward. We're arriving. We will see that
- 12:00Speaker 2: anything we saw I saw this weekend at Seahawks practice,
- 12:03Speaker 2: you'll hear from Tory Horton. Horton is back. He's on
- 12:06Speaker 2: the field six of the first seven practices. He's practiced,
- 12:09Speaker 2: last four times, he's been on eleven on eleven scrimmages
- 12:12Speaker 2: all the way back from that mysterious shin injury. What
- 12:15Speaker 2: the heck was that that cost him his rookie season
- 12:17Speaker 2: in November. Well, he explained all of this, including the
- 12:20Speaker 2: fact that he had surgery in February a metal rod
- 12:23Speaker 2: inserted into his leg. We'll explain why. You'll hear firsthand
- 12:28Speaker 2: from Tory Horton on his adventures since November. But he's
- 12:31Speaker 2: fully back now and looks like he's running pretty well.
- 12:35Speaker 2: At eleven o'clock, you're gonna hear from Nick Minette, not
- 12:37Speaker 2: Nick Finnette. We just talked to him last week. We're
- 12:40Speaker 2: gonna talk to the Chicago White Sox beat writer Scott Markland.
- 12:45Speaker 2: He's from MLB dot Com. He's covered the White Sox
- 12:47Speaker 2: for twenty four years. At eleven o'clock. We're gonna talk
- 12:50Speaker 2: to Scott about what the White Sox are doing, taking
- 12:54Speaker 2: on all the money of Luis Castilla, which surprised me,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and what these Mariners are getting back in return. And
- 13:02Speaker 2: they got a reliever, they've got a couple outfielders, a
- 13:05Speaker 2: top twelve prospect from the White Sox. We're going to
- 13:07Speaker 2: talk to Scott Markland at eleven o'clock. He's the beat
- 13:12Speaker 2: writer for the White Sox at MLB dot com eleven thirty,
- 13:16Speaker 2: as we do every day eleven thirty year textan talkbacks
- 13:18Speaker 2: on the Takoma Dodge text line four nine four five
- 13:20Speaker 2: one before Ian comes out here and joins me to
- 13:23Speaker 2: talk about what he's seeing at Seahawks and I'm.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Lonely back here. I like your talkbacks. Yeah, give me
- 13:30Speaker 4: some voices.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Please see fair ended with the higher plane races, and
- 13:35Speaker 2: I talked about the Blue Angels. Yesterday was George Kirby's
- 13:39Speaker 2: final Mariners start yesterday. It could be he's subject to
- 13:43Speaker 2: trade rumors. Three o'clock's the deadline today, and the starting
- 13:47Speaker 2: pitcher had something to say about that after the game yesterday.
- 13:50Speaker 5: You know, with everything going on, just try and go
- 13:53Speaker 5: out there and you know, do my best. So it
- 13:57Speaker 5: was a little bit of motivation, I guess. But yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 5: you know, well up this place, so I want to
- 14:02Speaker 5: stay here. I want to show them that I'm worthy
- 14:04Speaker 5: of it.
- 14:05Speaker 2: So George Kirby, talking after yesterday's start the Mariners winning
- 14:10Speaker 2: the series against Minnesota, Kirby the subject of trade rivers,
- 14:13Speaker 2: along with Emerson Hancock, the two pictures under under club
- 14:16Speaker 2: control that could fetch the most in a trade in
- 14:20Speaker 2: return if they do trade those young starters. But I
- 14:23Speaker 2: have to think now, jess Man, now that they've traded
- 14:26Speaker 2: Castillo and they've broken up the six pitcher logjam that
- 14:29Speaker 2: cause the piggyback and the six man rotation, I'm taking
- 14:32Speaker 2: there holding on to Kirby.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Yeah, Hancock, I feel I think I reference this movie
- 14:37Speaker 4: a little too much.
- 14:38Speaker 3: But Wolf of wall Street, I ain't going nowhere.
- 14:42Speaker 4: But no, I don't see them doing anything with him.
- 14:45Speaker 4: I don't see what you could get in return to
- 14:49Speaker 4: make that worth it, to be honest with what we've
- 14:52Speaker 4: talked about, with what's out there, But I don't see
- 14:56Speaker 4: Kirby going anywhere at this point.
- 14:58Speaker 2: If you think it's for an impact they got, I
- 15:01Speaker 2: don't know how it will see how impact it is.
- 15:03Speaker 2: But they did get a bat this morning if you
- 15:04Speaker 2: missed it. Off the top of the show, Taylor Ward
- 15:06Speaker 2: from the Orioles for Alex Hoppy and two minor league
- 15:09Speaker 2: pitchers who are not their top prospects coming to the
- 15:12Speaker 2: Mariners as Alex. There's Taylor Ward, thirty two year old outfield.
- 15:16Speaker 2: We'll see where he plays right field or left field.
- 15:17Speaker 2: He's been a left fielder all this season with the Orioles.
- 15:20Speaker 2: He was a right fielder last year with the Angels.
- 15:22Speaker 2: He had thirty six home runs for the Angels. Last
- 15:24Speaker 2: year he had twenty five home runs for the Angels
- 15:27Speaker 2: a year before that. He has seven home runs this year.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Chuck was mentioning last half hour about this, but Ward
- 15:34Speaker 2: has gone from a home run guy to an on
- 15:36Speaker 2: base guy. Now. He's got an over four to fourteen
- 15:39Speaker 2: on base percentage against left handed pitching, which is why
- 15:42Speaker 2: he's here. His three eighty three on base overall, he's
- 15:45Speaker 2: leading the American League with walks. I mean, his on
- 15:48Speaker 2: base is higher than anybody on the Mariners team by far,
- 15:52Speaker 2: and that's why he's here. Not so much against right
- 15:55Speaker 2: handed pitching, but you'd think if they're trading for him.
- 15:58Speaker 2: They're probably gonna start him every day. I would think
- 16:00Speaker 2: dom Canzone now goes to DH keep a rose arena
- 16:03Speaker 2: in left. I don't think they're trading a Rosarina even.
- 16:05Speaker 3: No, no, no, there's no way they're trading.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Brandy now, that most consistent hitter.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a very weird market this year. There's just
- 16:14Speaker 4: not these obvious things. Obviously Schooble was a huge one.
- 16:18Speaker 4: But there's not, at least for Mariner's intents and purposes,
- 16:23Speaker 4: anything that you're like, yeah, that's obvious, bid, you know,
- 16:26Speaker 4: bid for that, bid for that, and they're doing what
- 16:29Speaker 4: they can.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Chuck talked about this at length about an hour a
- 16:32Speaker 2: half forty five minutes ago, about the Dodgers getting Schooble
- 16:34Speaker 2: and don't blame the dog, Well, blame the Dodgers, and
- 16:38Speaker 2: he made the point of blaming the Dodgers, but also
- 16:41Speaker 2: blame major League Baseball for the system that allows the
- 16:43Speaker 2: Dodgers to do what they're doing. They they're going to
- 16:45Speaker 2: resign Schooble. They're gonna give him some seven zillion dollar
- 16:48Speaker 2: contract with six and a half zillion of it deferred
- 16:51Speaker 2: to the next forty years. Like they did with Otani
- 16:55Speaker 2: and all this, all these deferred contracts that the Dodgers
- 16:57Speaker 2: signed to get around the lucture tax, and then he
- 17:01Speaker 2: pay luxury tax gladly for all these contracts. But major
- 17:04Speaker 2: League Baseball allows all this. Major League Baseball has ratified
- 17:07Speaker 2: all these contracts. Major League Baseball has said, yeah, you can,
- 17:11Speaker 2: you can do this and that with deferred money and
- 17:13Speaker 2: sign on time. Let's make sure Otani gets in Los Angeles.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Well, yeah, they need him in that market.
- 17:19Speaker 2: He could play anywhere and be a superstar.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Yeah, but his stuff was already there. He was the
- 17:25Speaker 4: agent balls.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But I mean, major League Baseball created this, and now
- 17:29Speaker 2: they're trying to put Genie back in the bottle with
- 17:31Speaker 2: a salary cap. Forget that. The players, Marvin Miller and
- 17:35Speaker 2: Kurt Flood from the seventies created sports first unrestricted free agency,
- 17:41Speaker 2: and baseball has gotten guaranteed contracts and millions and billions
- 17:46Speaker 2: since the players have taken the owners of the cleaners
- 17:49Speaker 2: since the seventies. And Marvin Miller, every single baseball player
- 17:53Speaker 2: should have a statue of Marvin Miller in their giant
- 17:55Speaker 2: living room under their chandeliers, because he's the reason that
- 17:59Speaker 2: there's guarantee contracts and that the money is just so
- 18:03Speaker 2: out of whack in baseball.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Yeah, well, and then they're bringing in a floor with
- 18:07Speaker 4: the projected new CBO. Yeah, we'll see, we'll see, But
- 18:12Speaker 4: that is something that I thought was pretty interesting. When
- 18:16Speaker 4: it comes to what we could expect in twenty twenty seven,
- 18:19Speaker 4: you can.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Expect a lockout because there's no way the players are
- 18:22Speaker 2: going to agree to a salary cap and a floor
- 18:24Speaker 2: at the same time after having fifty years of unrestricted
- 18:27Speaker 2: free agency.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Can'll see, we will see.
- 18:30Speaker 2: There will be no baseball next year. There are a
- 18:32Speaker 2: lot of people in baseball who are saying that the
- 18:34Speaker 2: entire season, just like the World Series in the mid nineties,
- 18:38Speaker 2: the entire season's going away next year if they the
- 18:41Speaker 2: owners stick to their proposal of a salary cap and
- 18:44Speaker 2: a floor. Major baseball players have lived high on the
- 18:47Speaker 2: hog for fifty years without any of this and just
- 18:50Speaker 2: rampant unfettered free agency with guaranteed contracts, and now they're saying, well, well,
- 18:54Speaker 2: wait a minute, we needed to put a cap on
- 18:56Speaker 2: all this. It's gonna be ugly.
- 18:58Speaker 3: What I would call that re active and not proactive.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Greg, Yes, because it reminds me exactly of the mc
- 19:05Speaker 4: double a that you know, we have these reactive people
- 19:09Speaker 4: who are raking in the dough and then all of
- 19:12Speaker 4: a sudden, go ooh, should we do something?
- 19:17Speaker 3: It drives me nuts.
- 19:18Speaker 2: College sports there's still people, so many people raking in
- 19:21Speaker 2: the dough. There's not enough of them saying should we
- 19:22Speaker 2: do something. They're waiting on Congress and step in as
- 19:25Speaker 2: a white horse, and they're not going to. No, they
- 19:27Speaker 2: are not Tommy Teller Bubberville's of the world in Congress
- 19:30Speaker 2: aren't gonna want to lose their football votes by stepping
- 19:33Speaker 2: in and trying to cap sec pay. For instance, that
- 19:36Speaker 2: Castillo trade really surprised me though we were at the
- 19:40Speaker 2: at Sharon concert. Start people start talking about it and I'm.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Like, what everybody an alert on their phones.
- 19:47Speaker 2: White the White Socks are taking all the money. And
- 19:50Speaker 2: this is why, Yeah, I don't know, I don't know.
- 19:53Speaker 2: We're gonna We're gonna talk to start Mac Markman at
- 19:57Speaker 2: eleven o'clock the White Sox beat writer of MLB about this.
- 19:59Speaker 2: But the Poto getting the White Sox to take all
- 20:03Speaker 2: that money is why Dipoto has been in his job
- 20:06Speaker 2: for eleven years Yeah, John Stanton and all the Mariners' owners,
- 20:09Speaker 2: this is a great deal. Yeah, a commodity they thought
- 20:13Speaker 2: they were gonna have to pay thirty plus million to
- 20:14Speaker 2: guarantee the next two years and have an option for
- 20:17Speaker 2: a twenty twenty eight is now gone and White clean
- 20:20Speaker 2: in their hands. They're done. No matter what you got
- 20:23Speaker 2: back in return, the fact they got more than a
- 20:25Speaker 2: bag of baseballs for him is a win for the Mariners.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I know it wasn't on the field to win, perhaps
- 20:31Speaker 2: improving the team a lot, but that's exactly why Jerry
- 20:34Speaker 2: Depoto's had his job for eleven years. When you do
- 20:36Speaker 2: something to the bottom line for the owners like that,
- 20:38Speaker 2: h standing. Those guys love this move, of course they do.
- 20:43Speaker 2: They cleans their books of Testillo. It gets rid of
- 20:46Speaker 2: the six pitcher problem and the piggybacking and the six
- 20:49Speaker 2: mare rotation. And now you've got all young starters under
- 20:52Speaker 2: club control in the rotation. And yeah, that was a
- 20:56Speaker 2: coup for Jerry to Poto for sure. So we go
- 21:00Speaker 2: back to Seahawks. We're gonna be here at the Seahawks
- 21:02Speaker 2: training camp all week. You're gonna hear from Tory Horton
- 21:05Speaker 2: that mysterious shint injury. What was it? I asked him?
- 21:08Speaker 2: What happened? You'll hear from Tory Horton next eleven o'clock.
- 21:11Speaker 2: We're gonna go to Chicago talk to the White Sox
- 21:13Speaker 2: beat writer about what the Mariners are getting in the
- 21:16Speaker 2: Luis Castillo trade and why the White Sox took all
- 21:19Speaker 2: the money for the veterans starter. All that's coming up
- 21:21Speaker 2: here from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center at Seahawks training
- 21:23Speaker 2: camp on ninety three point three kJ r FM, Hi,
- 21:46Speaker 2: welcome back right now at the Virginia Make Center on
- 21:50Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJRFM. Jessman mackintire back to the
- 21:52Speaker 2: Elliott based studios in Seattle. We're here every day this week,
- 21:56Speaker 2: ten am to noon. The Seahawks practice every day this week.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Here this afternoon afternoon practices every day this week after
- 22:03Speaker 2: being off yesterday. In case you missed the news from
- 22:06Speaker 2: this morning of the Major League Baseball trading deadline, this
- 22:09Speaker 2: is deadline Day. Three o'clock is the Major League Baseball
- 22:11Speaker 2: deadline to make all trades for the season that don't
- 22:14Speaker 2: require waivers, and this morning the Mariners made one. They
- 22:18Speaker 2: acquired outfitter Taylor Ward, thirty two years old from the
- 22:21Speaker 2: Baltimore Orioles in exchange for three pitchers, Alex Hoppey and
- 22:25Speaker 2: two minor league pitchers. So not a lot of loss
- 22:27Speaker 2: there for a rental player who's on a one year
- 22:30Speaker 2: contract with Baltimore. We'll see where he fits. He was
- 22:33Speaker 2: a left fielder for the Orioles this season led the
- 22:35Speaker 2: America League in walks. He's an on base guy this
- 22:37Speaker 2: year after being a home run guy for the Angels.
- 22:39Speaker 2: He's a right fielder for the Angels for multiple years.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I think right fielder for most of his career if
- 22:44Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken. So we'll see where he fence canzone
- 22:47Speaker 2: may go from right field to d H and he
- 22:50Speaker 2: might have Ward come in. Taylor Ward coming in from
- 22:53Speaker 2: Baltimore to the Mariners, perhaps to be the new right
- 22:56Speaker 2: field We will see. We'll see if Jerry Depoto and
- 22:59Speaker 2: the always make another move for the Mariners before three PM.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Out here at Seahawks, Tory Harton's been out here every
- 23:05Speaker 2: day the last four practices. He's been doing eleven on
- 23:08Speaker 2: eleven team scrimmaging for the first time since a mysterious
- 23:12Speaker 2: shit injury that Mike McDonald refused to detail exactly what happened.
- 23:16Speaker 2: In early November, he had two touchdowns, as Tory Horton did,
- 23:20Speaker 2: the rookie wide receiver last year from Colorado State, had
- 23:22Speaker 2: two touchdowns against the Washington Commanders and that Sunday night
- 23:26Speaker 2: blowout win for the Seahawks, and then we never saw
- 23:28Speaker 2: him again. They traded for Rashid Shahid that next week.
- 23:32Speaker 2: The next week is also when they put Tory Harton
- 23:35Speaker 2: on injured reserve for the rest of the season. What
- 23:38Speaker 2: happened with Tory Horton, Well, here he is to explain
- 23:40Speaker 2: that it was.
- 23:41Speaker 6: The most meaningful to you about being pack on the team.
- 23:44Speaker 7: Stand.
- 23:45Speaker 8: Yeah, I fel like just making most of my opportunities.
- 23:47Speaker 9: You know, it's a blezzandie back on the field and
- 23:50Speaker 9: just trying to take in every moment because you know,
- 23:54Speaker 9: just like last year, you never know when you know
- 23:56Speaker 9: it because short, So just trying to make the most
- 23:58Speaker 9: of every opportunity and just beat it for my guys.
- 24:01Speaker 10: A few weeks ago, Mike mc johnson that you guys
- 24:03Speaker 10: got really good news and you're gonna get back, uh
- 24:06Speaker 10: talk us three.
- 24:07Speaker 2: That's like when you got that good news.
- 24:10Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, it's just uh, just a whole bit
- 24:13Speaker 8: of excitement.
- 24:14Speaker 9: You know, of course, you always want to hear that,
- 24:16Speaker 9: you know, you've been cleared and you know we're gonna
- 24:19Speaker 9: start progressing to the field work and you know that's
- 24:21Speaker 9: something that I've just been looking forward to. So have
- 24:23Speaker 9: an opportunity to hear that from you know, the head
- 24:25Speaker 9: coach himself, you know, that's that's great to me, and
- 24:28Speaker 9: you know I'm excited about it.
- 24:29Speaker 8: And I'm just trying to keep moving forward.
- 24:31Speaker 11: What happened?
- 24:33Speaker 8: Uh yeah, So it was kind of weird.
- 24:35Speaker 9: You know, Uh about like week three, I kind of
- 24:38Speaker 9: started filling my shin and you know, worked through it
- 24:42Speaker 9: through a couple of games, got to week nine and
- 24:44Speaker 9: you know, got it checked up and found out there
- 24:46Speaker 9: was a crack. So you know, I ended up getting
- 24:48Speaker 9: surgery on it. And that was that was that just
- 24:53Speaker 9: just something that you know, it just got you work
- 24:56Speaker 9: through till you can't. So you know, it's just uh,
- 24:59Speaker 9: not something that I wish happened, but it did. And
- 25:02Speaker 9: you know, we got the issue solved and you know,
- 25:04Speaker 9: the leg ain't going to newhere now. So feel pretty good.
- 25:09Speaker 9: Uh yeah, yeah, it didn't really like you know, feel
- 25:14Speaker 9: as bad as it got until you know, after the game,
- 25:18Speaker 9: the Washington game. But you know, of course those couple
- 25:20Speaker 9: weeks before, just building up, there were always a little
- 25:23Speaker 9: something there that I felt, and you know, over the weeks,
- 25:25Speaker 9: it's kind of got worse and worse, and you know,
- 25:27Speaker 9: I finally took the time to get it checked out.
- 25:29Speaker 8: And that's when we found out that.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Touchdowns and then then to find out.
- 25:38Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, of course that's not the news I
- 25:40Speaker 9: wanted to hear, especially after the Commander's game. I just
- 25:44Speaker 9: felt like I let the team down a little bit
- 25:46Speaker 9: just not being able to go back out there as
- 25:49Speaker 9: much as I wanted. It was even times where I
- 25:51Speaker 9: still try to go out there and you know, run
- 25:55Speaker 9: some routes and the trainers have to tell me, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 9: to take it easy. But you know, dealing with a
- 26:00Speaker 9: bone thing is you just got to let that hel's
- 26:03Speaker 9: there's no like you know, playing through that once to
- 26:05Speaker 9: get to a certain point. So you know, I did
- 26:09Speaker 9: the most I could and made it to however far
- 26:12Speaker 9: I got, and you know, when the time came and
- 26:15Speaker 9: I couldn't go no more, I didn't want to put
- 26:17Speaker 9: you know, the team at a disadvantage of me going
- 26:20Speaker 9: out there knowing that something's bothering me, and you know,
- 26:23Speaker 9: I feel like we just kind of made the smart
- 26:25Speaker 9: move of you know, just holding out, seeing if it
- 26:27Speaker 9: hills on its own. And you know, it's kind of
- 26:29Speaker 9: the time kind of got away from usself.
- 26:31Speaker 8: So you didn't have to have surgery. I didn't have surgery. Yeah,
- 26:34Speaker 8: I got a metal rod in here, so the leg
- 26:35Speaker 8: ain't going anywhere.
- 26:37Speaker 2: You seven.
- 26:39Speaker 8: Yeah, it was the tib So it was the shambone.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Was there ever a fun after the watching the
- 26:43Speaker 2: game that you were being able to come back and
- 26:45Speaker 2: play anymore?
- 26:45Speaker 4: Oh?
- 26:45Speaker 8: Yeah, of course.
- 26:46Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:47Speaker 8: Shoot, I've been playing with it since week three, so.
- 26:50Speaker 9: You know, all I thought I was gonna come back,
- 26:51Speaker 9: and you know, the initial plan was to come back
- 26:53Speaker 9: for playoffs, and you know, we was rehabbing so much
- 26:56Speaker 9: and you know, being extremely smart about it and you know,
- 26:59Speaker 9: trying to push some things to come back for the playoffs.
- 27:01Speaker 9: Of course that in you know, go according to plan.
- 27:04Speaker 9: But you know, I'm excited for my guys, and you know,
- 27:07Speaker 9: now we're looking forward to another year, just you know,
- 27:11Speaker 9: just trying to move forward from the injury. Dream February
- 27:17Speaker 9: after the Super Bowl, so I got to enjoy the
- 27:19Speaker 9: Super Bowl, Yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 7: Player now, because.
- 27:25Speaker 9: Yeah, I just feel like it's a lot more mental
- 27:27Speaker 9: focus on you know, how I approach things. I feel like,
- 27:31Speaker 9: you know, just going out there playing every single snap
- 27:35Speaker 9: like it's my last, you know, because just having some
- 27:37Speaker 9: cussles short so quick, you know, you kind of look
- 27:39Speaker 9: at that and take it for granted of like, you know,
- 27:41Speaker 9: I wish I could have done more.
- 27:42Speaker 8: I wish I could have did this.
- 27:43Speaker 9: And you know, of course, everyone want to make the
- 27:46Speaker 9: most out of their opportunities, and you know, I feel
- 27:48Speaker 9: like it just takes me to the next level of
- 27:51Speaker 9: just how diut in you got to be, you know,
- 27:54Speaker 9: on yourself and on your body to you know, make
- 27:56Speaker 9: sure you're in the right no condition, in shape, and
- 27:58Speaker 9: just trying to make sure you just uh, you know,
- 28:01Speaker 9: as stable and you know just as you know, I
- 28:04Speaker 9: don't know, just asn't seen as you could be just
- 28:06Speaker 9: go out there and compete every day.
- 28:08Speaker 10: Well, we didn't got a chance to play with the
- 28:09Speaker 10: shoat you eat last year. Now you guys are on
- 28:11Speaker 10: the same field. What do you think is possible if
- 28:13Speaker 10: you guys out there together.
- 28:15Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, that's a lot of speed on the field.
- 28:17Speaker 9: Me and him talk every day, uh, you know, both
- 28:19Speaker 9: from Cali, so we got a lot to relate on,
- 28:21Speaker 9: and you know, we just you know, we just talked about,
- 28:24Speaker 9: you know, how how crazy it is to you know,
- 28:26Speaker 9: finally you know, get some of those practice reps together
- 28:29Speaker 9: and just uh, you know, just see two speeding inside
- 28:31Speaker 9: by side, just going at it.
- 28:33Speaker 8: So you know, it's fun out there. And you know,
- 28:35Speaker 8: of course we still got you know, the the O G.
- 28:38Speaker 9: General Coop out there coaching us on everything, and you
- 28:40Speaker 9: got the technician and you know, just all around with
- 28:43Speaker 9: just saying, you know, just it's a lot of things
- 28:44Speaker 9: out there that you know, we're just kind of trying
- 28:47Speaker 9: to combine and you know, see our roles and see
- 28:49Speaker 9: how you know, how much weapons and power we got
- 28:52Speaker 9: on the field. And I feel like it's a lot
- 28:55Speaker 9: of things that you know, we got in the bag
- 28:57Speaker 9: that we could you know, switch it up from.
- 28:59Speaker 8: And I feel like it's a exciting year to have that.
- 29:02Speaker 12: You've now gotten five practices out here that you've gotten
- 29:04Speaker 12: to participated. I'm sorry, you've gotten five practices now that
- 29:07Speaker 12: you've got to participate out here.
- 29:09Speaker 2: What's it been like so far adjusting to this new offense.
- 29:11Speaker 2: How does it compare to what you.
- 29:13Speaker 8: Played with Klink Kubiak last year?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Any significant differences that.
- 29:16Speaker 9: You've Oh, yeah, yeah, I feel like it's pretty much
- 29:19Speaker 9: the same, just a little a little tweets here and there.
- 29:23Speaker 8: But you know, I love this scheme.
- 29:26Speaker 9: I feel like Brian has a great idea in mind
- 29:28Speaker 9: of how he wants to attack this season and this
- 29:31Speaker 9: with this offense.
- 29:31Speaker 8: And I feel like they got a lot.
- 29:33Speaker 9: Of things that they want to try out and it's
- 29:34Speaker 9: the perfect time to try those out right now. And know, no,
- 29:38Speaker 9: I got I got a lot of faith in praising
- 29:39Speaker 9: you know, Brian, I feel like, you know, we got
- 29:42Speaker 9: we got a pretty good season the Pedals toy.
- 29:44Speaker 8: I think it was six touchdowns today games last year.
- 29:47Speaker 2: But before you before you stopped playing, what did you
- 29:49Speaker 2: think of the start you were off too?
- 29:51Speaker 13: Yeah?
- 29:53Speaker 9: No, I just I just wanted to make the most
- 29:54Speaker 9: of my opportunities, you know, like I said, Uh, just
- 29:57Speaker 9: something that we practiced on every day. And I feel like,
- 29:59Speaker 9: you know, ball finds energy and I fly. I just
- 30:02Speaker 9: had you know, I guess I just had the right
- 30:03Speaker 9: energy out there to find an end zone and you know,
- 30:07Speaker 9: just build a little bit of confidence, get a little
- 30:10Speaker 9: bit of sounds. Trust, you know, to trust me out
- 30:12Speaker 9: there to at least giving me a shot. And you know,
- 30:15Speaker 9: of course that would just keep building over the over
- 30:17Speaker 9: the time we know half together, and now I just
- 30:20Speaker 9: try to make the most out of everything I got.
- 30:25Speaker 2: That was Toy Harton from Seahawks training camp this weekend
- 30:28Speaker 2: talking about his mysterious not some mysterious anymore shin injury.
- 30:32Speaker 2: It was a broken fractured ship and a crack shin tibia,
- 30:36Speaker 2: and he's got a metal rod in. He has a
- 30:38Speaker 2: metal rod in from a previous The injury that ended
- 30:41Speaker 2: his college career at Colorado State required surgeons to put
- 30:45Speaker 2: in a metal rod in the upper part of his leg.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Now he's got one of the lower part of his leg,
- 30:50Speaker 2: which is why he said his legs are right, legs
- 30:51Speaker 2: are going on.
- 30:52Speaker 4: I know, I kind of really liked that comment, actually
- 30:55Speaker 4: when that leg's not going anywhere.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, he said, there were a couple of times, no wonder,
- 31:00Speaker 2: he's got two metal rods in it. As fast as
- 31:02Speaker 2: he is and as fast as he still looks out here,
- 31:04Speaker 2: it's remarkable to know he's got metal rods in the
- 31:06Speaker 2: upper and lower parts of his leg That was the
- 31:10Speaker 2: takeaway news from Tory Horton in his talk with us
- 31:13Speaker 2: the other day. I wrote that story at the News
- 31:15Speaker 2: Tribune the News Tribune dot com if you want to
- 31:17Speaker 2: see it. By the way, you can subscribe to the
- 31:19Speaker 2: News Tribune for ninety nine cents for six months total.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Really not per month, total, ninety nine cents for six months.
- 31:26Speaker 3: What kind of deal? What kind of sorcery is that?
- 31:29Speaker 2: Greg? Exactly? That's my publisher told me. Hey, here's the link,
- 31:32Speaker 2: so go. That's amazing to go to the News Tribune
- 31:35Speaker 2: dot com if you want to subscribe for it.
- 31:37Speaker 3: I think I already have a subscription, to be honest.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate it. But Tory Horton has been
- 31:44Speaker 2: with the number ones in the offense and the number twos.
- 31:47Speaker 2: He's catching passes both from Sam Donald and Drew Locke.
- 31:52Speaker 2: How does he fit in here? Well, he's they want.
- 31:56Speaker 2: The idea was, even when they traded with Shihi, they
- 31:58Speaker 2: didn't think Tory Horton was never gonna play again. Obviously
- 32:02Speaker 2: he'll be back in next season. So the idea when
- 32:04Speaker 2: they gave Horton, excuse me, when they gave Shaheed the
- 32:07Speaker 2: fifty one million dollar contract. Is not just the return
- 32:10Speaker 2: kicks that he did so splendidly last year in his
- 32:12Speaker 2: half season. It's to put him on the field with Horton,
- 32:15Speaker 2: two speed guys going down the field to stretch the
- 32:18Speaker 2: defense and take top off as they say, and then
- 32:22Speaker 2: opens up the entire field underneath for the NFL Offensive
- 32:26Speaker 2: Player of the Year Jackson Smith and Jigbo the two
- 32:28Speaker 2: time Super Bowl champion Cooper Cup, the emerging star at
- 32:32Speaker 2: tight end in aj Barner Jadarian Price out of the backfield,
- 32:35Speaker 2: who they've been throwing to a lot in this training camp.
- 32:39Speaker 2: That's the idea. That's the scheme idea. When they do
- 32:41Speaker 2: put both those guys in the field, they'll go for
- 32:43Speaker 2: wide receivers to do it. They might even keep a
- 32:46Speaker 2: tight end to do it. They might keep a running
- 32:49Speaker 2: back Price on the field to do it. But that's
- 32:52Speaker 2: that's the thought.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Well, how excited should people beat to watch his offense?
- 32:56Speaker 2: Then if that's the thought, that's the thought. It won't
- 33:00Speaker 2: happen on every down, but there will be third downs
- 33:02Speaker 2: that you'll see Shaheed and Horton on the field at
- 33:04Speaker 2: the same time. And the yeah, and if you want
- 33:07Speaker 2: to focus on Cup, and Smithson, Jigbu and Barner underneath.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Then you got two speed guys flying down the field.
- 33:12Speaker 2: And I don't have a stopwatch on Horton, but he
- 33:15Speaker 2: looks very fast, and they all do when they're not
- 33:17Speaker 2: getting tackled. But he has looked fast. He doesn't have
- 33:21Speaker 2: a hitch in his step at all. I thought he
- 33:23Speaker 2: was a candidate to begin training camp on the physical
- 33:25Speaker 2: enable to Perform list. Nope, he's been practicing since day one.
- 33:29Speaker 2: So a really good sign for the Seahawks that Tory
- 33:31Speaker 2: Horton is fully back four nine four or five one
- 33:34Speaker 2: and to coma Dodge Texan already asked at the top
- 33:36Speaker 2: of the show, what else you want the Mariners to do?
- 33:38Speaker 2: Are you done? You think they're good now that they've
- 33:40Speaker 2: got Taylor Ward and traded Luis Kasteel. But the second
- 33:42Speaker 2: question I ask that we'll read back your answers at
- 33:45Speaker 2: eleven thirty. What would you like to see the Seahawks
- 33:48Speaker 2: do in the past game? They ran fifty percent of
- 33:51Speaker 2: the time last year. You want to see him throw more.
- 33:53Speaker 2: You got your price, your first round pick. You had
- 33:55Speaker 2: an offensive line that runs outside zone. You got a
- 33:58Speaker 2: tight end former tight end and running coordinator from the
- 34:01Speaker 2: forty nine ers. That's you knew OC Brian Fleury's here
- 34:04Speaker 2: because he runs the ball. But what do you want
- 34:06Speaker 2: to see in the Seahawks pass game? More of a
- 34:07Speaker 2: j barner? Do you want to see even more for
- 34:10Speaker 2: Jackson Smith and Jigmuth in a seventeen hundred yard old
- 34:12Speaker 2: pro season? And how much do you are you excited
- 34:16Speaker 2: to see Horton and Shaheed on the field At the
- 34:19Speaker 2: same time, Shaheed and Sam Donald much more in sinc
- 34:22Speaker 2: obviously now and working together than they were when he
- 34:26Speaker 2: as Shheed came in mid stream in November. Donald, by
- 34:29Speaker 2: the way, brought Shaheed down to Southern California and they
- 34:33Speaker 2: worked out of the college next to San Clemente where
- 34:36Speaker 2: Sam Donald grew up, back his hometown during June into July,
- 34:40Speaker 2: those six weeks between Mini camp and started training camp
- 34:43Speaker 2: to work on extra things, just like DK Metcalf used
- 34:45Speaker 2: to do with Russell Wilson. That's what Rashid Shaheed was
- 34:48Speaker 2: doing in June and July with Sam Donald out in
- 34:51Speaker 2: Southern California. I'p next, you're here from Jadarian Price, the
- 34:56Speaker 2: Seahawks rookie running back first round pick, on what his
- 35:00Speaker 2: first camp is like is he swimming? Is it all
- 35:03Speaker 2: overwhelming for him? He came from a pretty big time
- 35:05Speaker 2: program in Notre Dame. Jerarian Price is next on ninety
- 35:08Speaker 2: three point three KJRFM. Welcome back, Greatgum from Seahawks Training Camp,
- 35:48Speaker 2: Virginia Mason Athletics Center in Renting, where it's a little
- 35:51Speaker 2: cloudier and musk. Hear the perhaps smoke from the wildfire.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Hearts and everything go out to the people on the
- 35:59Speaker 2: east side of watching, especially the Spokane area. Just apocalyptic
- 36:03Speaker 2: scenes from Spokane this weekend of the fires that are
- 36:06Speaker 2: just englfing houses and much of Spokane County evacuated. All
- 36:12Speaker 2: our best to our friends on the eastern side of
- 36:14Speaker 2: the Cascades, And unfortunately it's a way of life these
- 36:17Speaker 2: days in the summer out here at Seahawks Training Camp.
- 36:21Speaker 2: I'll practice this afternoon for the eighth time. Jenari and
- 36:25Speaker 2: Price's education continues every day I'm out here. I'm watching
- 36:29Speaker 2: Thomas Hammick throw so many passes to him. It's like
- 36:32Speaker 2: a pitcher and catcher in a bullpen session. How much
- 36:34Speaker 2: Hammock is throwing to Price working on his past protection,
- 36:39Speaker 2: working on a gauntlet drill where he does sleds, and
- 36:42Speaker 2: he does medicine balls that he's repelling as a pass
- 36:45Speaker 2: protector a lot in the past game working on with
- 36:48Speaker 2: the rookie running back and first round pick. This is
- 36:51Speaker 2: Jenarian Price talking to us about his first few days
- 36:54Speaker 2: in the NFL and his first Seahawks training camp.
- 36:59Speaker 13: Camps.
- 37:00Speaker 3: So, what are your first impressions?
- 37:04Speaker 14: First impressions are you know, I'm glad to be back
- 37:07Speaker 14: out here and play football with the very special group
- 37:10Speaker 14: of guys, special coaching staff, and a special organization.
- 37:14Speaker 15: I'm just proud to be blessed to be out here.
- 37:16Speaker 6: You put pads on, what you said, allow people focus
- 37:19Speaker 6: on and may measure yourself against difference.
- 37:22Speaker 14: Once the paths comes on, it allows the you know,
- 37:25Speaker 14: the offensive linment to really get their blocks and the
- 37:27Speaker 14: double teams to really happen, and that makes my job easier.
- 37:30Speaker 14: It makes the whole open up a little bit more,
- 37:32Speaker 14: and it makes my runs a little bit more decisive.
- 37:34Speaker 10: You've got enough questions about it. You're catching the ball,
- 37:37Speaker 10: but you do it a lot in high school. You
- 37:38Speaker 10: feel like, let's come back really quickly out here.
- 37:43Speaker 14: That's one thing I've worked on since high school. I've
- 37:45Speaker 14: continuous to have gotten better at it through throughout college,
- 37:47Speaker 14: and then that's one thing that people question going into
- 37:50Speaker 14: the pro. So I worked on it and just continue
- 37:53Speaker 14: to work on it and understand the space and and
- 37:56Speaker 14: catching ability. So past far, like I said, I'm improving,
- 38:04Speaker 14: and I've I've shown countless times in practice that I
- 38:07Speaker 14: can catch the ball. Still need to show my past
- 38:10Speaker 14: protection a little more, but we're going day by day
- 38:13Speaker 14: and we're day six in camp.
- 38:14Speaker 12: So yeah, he said, you hadn't had a ton of
- 38:17Speaker 12: experience running behind pullbacks and doing stuff under center. How's
- 38:21Speaker 12: that transition been so far in this offense where you
- 38:24Speaker 12: have fullbacks and you are in front of you exclusively,
- 38:28Speaker 12: how does it feel to get used to that process?
- 38:30Speaker 14: I I love it because you got guys like Robber
- 38:33Speaker 14: Boots who just he's so big but agile.
- 38:36Speaker 15: He can get downhill and he pops.
- 38:38Speaker 14: When you see that happen in front of you, it really,
- 38:40Speaker 14: you know, it makes you want to lower your shoulder
- 38:42Speaker 14: pads and go pop somebody else.
- 38:44Speaker 15: So I really like the way we do things here
- 38:46Speaker 15: on offense.
- 38:47Speaker 16: When it comes to the past protection, is it more
- 38:49Speaker 16: like the mental part of it or the physical part
- 38:51Speaker 16: of it.
- 38:51Speaker 2: That's kind of a different at this level or you.
- 38:54Speaker 15: Well, there are steps to it.
- 38:55Speaker 14: First, you got to recognize who you got because NFL defense,
- 38:58Speaker 14: especially hours can do a lot of tricky things. Guy's
- 39:00Speaker 14: popping in and out. So recognize that you got and
- 39:03Speaker 14: and meet him at the line of scrimmage.
- 39:05Speaker 15: That's the biggest thing.
- 39:06Speaker 6: Outside of the guys, meet who has been the most
- 39:10Speaker 6: help and helping navigate, whether it's hopefully the offensive line
- 39:14Speaker 6: or being bat.
- 39:15Speaker 14: You that's all right, Yeah, George Scelanney has been a
- 39:17Speaker 14: huge help ever since I came into the room, and
- 39:20Speaker 14: since day one, you know, and OTAs and now being
- 39:23Speaker 14: able to watch him and learn and how he holds
- 39:26Speaker 14: the standard for the running back room.
- 39:27Speaker 15: That's really inspiring.
- 39:29Speaker 6: Are there any defensive guys that have given you some
- 39:32Speaker 6: advice or kind of taking.
- 39:33Speaker 2: You aside to the hood.
- 39:37Speaker 14: I wouldn't say any advice, just just guys that let
- 39:40Speaker 14: me know that there are defensive players. I'm offensive players
- 39:42Speaker 14: and that's how it is.
- 39:43Speaker 10: So Worries will be another rookie talent show. Have you
- 39:48Speaker 10: been thinking about what your performance might be?
- 39:51Speaker 15: Nope, I'm just worried about day seven of FAG camp.
- 39:54Speaker 17: So we will be like the first significant thing you
- 40:05Speaker 17: spend You're like, you're you're like the first thing you
- 40:08Speaker 17: buy it with your first pay check.
- 40:12Speaker 15: I've already done it.
- 40:14Speaker 14: This past summer when I went home, I just got
- 40:17Speaker 14: a new house from my family. That was my biggest
- 40:19Speaker 14: goal of mine once I made it to the NFL,
- 40:21Speaker 14: and already did that.
- 40:22Speaker 15: So check that off the list. And where's that back
- 40:24Speaker 15: home in Texas?
- 40:26Speaker 2: In your hometown. What was the reaction?
- 40:31Speaker 14: A bunch of smiles and and you know, blessings. You know,
- 40:34Speaker 14: just everything I wanted to do and put on the
- 40:36Speaker 14: board that I was gonna do when I was little.
- 40:38Speaker 15: So I'm glad that I finally did it.
- 40:40Speaker 8: Going back to this defense and the defensive places, let
- 40:43Speaker 8: you know they're there.
- 40:44Speaker 2: What can you say about the Seahawks defense and what
- 40:46Speaker 2: are you finding out about it?
- 40:48Speaker 14: They fly around on every down, You're thirty yards down
- 40:52Speaker 14: the field and you got defensive linement like Leonard Williams
- 40:55Speaker 14: chasing you down. So that just goes to show the
- 40:57Speaker 14: way the guys practice is the reason they were so
- 40:59Speaker 14: success for last year, and the fact that they can
- 41:01Speaker 14: still do it this year makes me a better player
- 41:04Speaker 14: in the whole team.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Ramping up.
- 41:08Speaker 8: You know, he skirmishes out there today.
- 41:09Speaker 13: You guys just got paths on.
- 41:11Speaker 2: How do you feel like kind of.
- 41:13Speaker 8: Increasing and grand?
- 41:14Speaker 14: Yeah, Day two of pass today and practice has gotten
- 41:17Speaker 14: a little longer and we're in that second stretch of
- 41:22Speaker 14: training camp. So just understand how to take care of
- 41:24Speaker 14: your body but also improve on the details while still
- 41:28Speaker 14: also being physical on the day to day basis.
- 41:31Speaker 15: It's just football, and you know, I'm glad to get
- 41:33Speaker 15: better at it.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Away from working with Brian Fleury as the OC. What's
- 41:37Speaker 2: it been like working with them and getting up to
- 41:38Speaker 2: speed with the offense.
- 41:41Speaker 14: Yeah, I'm really starting to finally understand the offense and.
- 41:47Speaker 15: The things that we do. Like I did I would
- 41:49Speaker 15: I didn't do too much in college.
- 41:51Speaker 14: So now that I'm opening my game up a little bit,
- 41:53Speaker 14: I'm really excited for the season.
- 41:56Speaker 16: Looking you mentioned George being really really helping you. A
- 42:01Speaker 16: lot of people's unat is. You guys just got to
- 42:02Speaker 16: competing for the running back job. But obviously you guys
- 42:05Speaker 16: kind of just hoping out each other. You adores that
- 42:08Speaker 16: instead of like Repetis could.
- 42:10Speaker 6: Start a job.
- 42:11Speaker 15: Yeah, I think we both view it as more. You know,
- 42:14Speaker 15: there's there's competition in every position.
- 42:16Speaker 14: Group's competition between everyone and themselves, but we both view
- 42:20Speaker 14: it as something, you know, how can we make this
- 42:22Speaker 14: offense better, this running back room better, and each other better?
- 42:25Speaker 15: And we've continued to do that every day.
- 42:27Speaker 10: It looked like you and Jack Sharron, they were talking
- 42:29Speaker 10: on the way on the field. Is even though he's
- 42:31Speaker 10: not playing, is even helpful for you?
- 42:33Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, that's another guy who's no even when he
- 42:37Speaker 14: was away. Then OTA's like texting me like, hey, I
- 42:40Speaker 14: saw this on the film. You could have done this better.
- 42:42Speaker 14: Like that's that's a real teammate right there, and him
- 42:46Speaker 14: being out but still be on the sideline and giving
- 42:48Speaker 14: me tips every time I come back to the sideline,
- 42:50Speaker 14: Like that's really helpful and just just someone who loves
- 42:54Speaker 14: the game of football. That's really great teammate to have.
- 43:00Speaker 2: What about this camp maybe you didn't expect or as
- 43:02Speaker 2: new to you campus camp.
- 43:06Speaker 15: Honestly, this is everything I expected.
- 43:10Speaker 14: Obviously, we're in the league now, so it's everything's a
- 43:14Speaker 14: little bit tougher and everyone's smarter and more decisive off
- 43:17Speaker 14: the ball.
- 43:17Speaker 15: So by the end of the day, it's football.
- 43:19Speaker 8: Dan.
- 43:20Speaker 2: This offensive line returned off five starters.
- 43:22Speaker 12: Obviously you're new to playing with them, but can you
- 43:24Speaker 12: sense kind of accuasion that unit have.
- 43:27Speaker 14: I can't for sure, especially when you see guys with
- 43:29Speaker 14: their secret little handshakes before the balls while we're in
- 43:33Speaker 14: the huddles. So hopefully I'll get a little handshake in
- 43:36Speaker 14: with them once I get more comfortable with the Dolphins.
- 43:41Speaker 2: That's Jadarian Price from Seahawks training camp, the rookie first
- 43:44Speaker 2: round pick and running back who again, I'd be very
- 43:48Speaker 2: surprised if he's not the lead running back. Week one,
- 43:51Speaker 2: September ninth, in the NFL opener against the Newingham Patriots.
- 43:54Speaker 2: You heard him talking about what he did this offseason,
- 43:57Speaker 2: buying his parents at home to thank them for the
- 44:00Speaker 2: support they gave her. Pretty awesome. Indeed, a lifelong dream
- 44:05Speaker 2: come true. The former Notre Dame backup running back, still
- 44:08Speaker 2: a first round pick and looks like the Seahawks starting
- 44:11Speaker 2: running back from week one. Another Seahawk. Former Seahawks Kobe Bryant,
- 44:16Speaker 2: of course, is now in Chicago. Adam Hoges one of
- 44:19Speaker 2: the beat guys for the Chicago Bears at training camp,
- 44:23Speaker 2: with the Bears reporting that Kobe Bryant went down grabbing
- 44:26Speaker 2: his left kne this morning during one on one pass
- 44:29Speaker 2: coverage rep with tight end Cole Comet, Brian was quote
- 44:32Speaker 2: clearly emotional as he got on a cart under his
- 44:34Speaker 2: own power. So we'll see what kind of injury that
- 44:38Speaker 2: Kobe Bryant has out of Chicago Bears training camp this morning.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Up next stand with Chicago. We're gonna go to Chicago.
- 44:46Speaker 2: The White Sox beat writer for MLB Scott Murket, He's
- 44:48Speaker 2: covered the White Sox for twenty four years. We're gonna
- 44:52Speaker 2: ask him why did the White Sox take on all
- 44:54Speaker 2: of Luis Caa Steele's money in the trade from the
- 44:57Speaker 2: Mariners And who the Mariners are getting in return from Chicago.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Scott Murkin, White Sox. Next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Welcome back, Greg Bell, Jessmond McIntyre withers there every weekday
- 45:34Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJRFM, ten am to noon. I'm
- 45:37Speaker 2: at Seahawks training camp. But this is Major League Baseball's
- 45:39Speaker 2: trade deadline.
- 45:40Speaker 4: Day.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Three PM is the deadline. Mariners made a move to
- 45:43Speaker 2: today to add the right handed bat they've been searching for,
- 45:46Speaker 2: Taylor Ward from the Baltimore Orioles. Thirty two year old
- 45:49Speaker 2: outfitter coming to the seat to the Mariners for Alex
- 45:54Speaker 2: Hoppins toppy in two minor league pitchers that were not
- 45:57Speaker 2: among their top prospects. That's Taylor Ward coming to the
- 46:01Speaker 2: Mariners this morning. Of course, the big news over the weekend,
- 46:04Speaker 2: the Mariners traded Luis Castile. We've been talking about it
- 46:06Speaker 2: for months. The reason they had the six man rotation
- 46:09Speaker 2: to piggyback. The whole thing was to keep Castillo in
- 46:13Speaker 2: the rotation to showcase him to possibly trade him. But
- 46:15Speaker 2: we didn't think that Jerry Depoto could trade and get
- 46:20Speaker 2: all of somebody to take all of Castillo's money, the
- 46:23Speaker 2: pro ration of a twenty three million next year, the
- 46:25Speaker 2: twenty three million guaranteed next this year. Excuse me, the
- 46:28Speaker 2: pro ration twenty three million next year, the team option
- 46:32Speaker 2: to cut the contract option Castillle holds for twenty twenty eight.
- 46:35Speaker 2: The White Sox took all of it and gave the
- 46:38Speaker 2: Mariners back three players in return, including some help for
- 46:41Speaker 2: the bullpen. To talk about all of this, Scott Murkin,
- 46:44Speaker 2: long time what White Sox beat writer for twenty four
- 46:46Speaker 2: years that watched his work from afar back when I
- 46:48Speaker 2: covered ball covering the Oaklands for the Sacramento be Scott
- 46:52Speaker 2: Murkin joins us from Saint Petersburg, Florida on the Beacon
- 46:55Speaker 2: Plumbing Hotline, a MLB beatre dot com beat writer for
- 46:58Speaker 2: the Chicago White's Hello, sir, I know you're busy man.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Thanks for joining me, No problem.
- 47:04Speaker 11: How are you doing?
- 47:05Speaker 2: We are well, Thank you, sir. Well, let me ask
- 47:08Speaker 2: off the top how much this is obviously a go
- 47:11Speaker 2: for it move for Chicago. They're in first place and
- 47:14Speaker 2: they currently hold the number two seed in the American League.
- 47:16Speaker 2: As you know, Scott, how much is this moved to
- 47:19Speaker 2: get Castillo? A go for it move uncharacteristic for the
- 47:21Speaker 2: White Sox because they sense the American League is weak
- 47:25Speaker 2: this year, barely any teams other than two or three
- 47:27Speaker 2: over five hundred and maybe even the fact that there
- 47:30Speaker 2: might not even be a season next year, so they
- 47:32Speaker 2: better go for it now.
- 47:34Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 47:34Speaker 11: I think the first part maybe more than the second part.
- 47:37Speaker 11: But I mean, let's be honest and not to be
- 47:40Speaker 11: rude to any of the guys who are busting their
- 47:42Speaker 11: butts out there every day, but the AL is not good, right,
- 47:44Speaker 11: I mean, the you know, the top wild card team
- 47:49Speaker 11: in the National League is fourteen games over and the
- 47:52Speaker 11: leader in the aos with Houston getting hot, I think
- 47:55Speaker 11: they're what three over, four over and the soccer or
- 47:57Speaker 11: seven overs. So you know, you take what's what's in
- 48:00Speaker 11: front of you, right, you don't make any excuses for it.
- 48:02Speaker 11: But with that said, this team, you know, which is
- 48:05Speaker 11: in the middle of a rebuild, which Chris gets in
- 48:07Speaker 11: his front office, has done so well so far, is
- 48:10Speaker 11: ahead of schedule. You know, they this is a lot
- 48:12Speaker 11: on Will Venable and the players. Will Venables. Will Venables
- 48:16Speaker 11: set a culture, the players filed and they believe, from
- 48:19Speaker 11: really talking to him back at Soccsfest in January, that
- 48:22Speaker 11: this was going to be a good season. They started
- 48:24Speaker 11: off six and thirteen. They still believe it would be
- 48:26Speaker 11: a good season, and it is. You know, they've never
- 48:28Speaker 11: lost more than three games in a row this year,
- 48:31Speaker 11: so they've earned the right to have this team added to.
- 48:34Speaker 11: I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone
- 48:37Speaker 11: in that clubhouse is looking over their shoulders trying to see,
- 48:40Speaker 11: you know, are we getting to help what's going on?
- 48:42Speaker 11: Because they believe in themselves. But I think Chris Guests
- 48:45Speaker 11: understands that not just the al Central but possibly the Al.
- 48:49Speaker 11: And you know, we're extrapolating quite a bit down the
- 48:51Speaker 11: line in October at this point for a team that
- 48:53Speaker 11: hasn't been in the playoffs since twenty one. And I
- 48:55Speaker 11: don't think any of the guys on this team were
- 48:57Speaker 11: on that twenty one team obviously, So you know it's
- 49:00Speaker 11: you're going way down the line to think this out.
- 49:02Speaker 11: But you got to take advantage, as my wonderful mother
- 49:06Speaker 11: would say, you make hay while the sunshine right. And
- 49:09Speaker 11: that's what's happening in the al right now, is the
- 49:11Speaker 11: Sunday shinings. That you got to go for it, because
- 49:14Speaker 11: you know, if the Yankee just whatever happens at Judge,
- 49:16Speaker 11: whatever happens is Stanton. I think they expect Bellinger back.
- 49:19Speaker 11: You know that they just went into Tampa Bay over
- 49:21Speaker 11: the weekend and really dominated the series. I mean the
- 49:24Speaker 11: race scored three runs the entire game, now the entire weekend.
- 49:28Speaker 11: Now three runs is enough to win the game on
- 49:30Speaker 11: Saturday and still get two out of three. But you know,
- 49:33Speaker 11: they've shown they can play with any team in the
- 49:35Speaker 11: American League, so why not you know, improve and get
- 49:38Speaker 11: the team in the best as possible to move forward.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Scott Market MLB dot Com beat writer for the White Sox,
- 49:44Speaker 2: joining us from Saint Petersburg for on the road with
- 49:46Speaker 2: the team after they traded for the least Castill this
- 49:49Speaker 2: weekend from the Mariners. Did it surprise you, Scott the
- 49:52Speaker 2: terms of this trade and the fact that the White
- 49:54Speaker 2: Sox took on all the money not for just the
- 49:56Speaker 2: rest of this year, but next year and the option
- 49:58Speaker 2: for the year after that.
- 50:00Speaker 11: It did in some extent, But they did, you know,
- 50:02Speaker 11: obviously move Strantony Domingo as his contract in the process too,
- 50:07Speaker 11: so that kind of offsets it a little bit. Even
- 50:08Speaker 11: though Castillo is owed what I think the totals around
- 50:13Speaker 11: thirty million dollars, so you know, they didn't come, they
- 50:15Speaker 11: didn't do all of it, but they got about half
- 50:17Speaker 11: off it there, so I mean, they don't have a
- 50:19Speaker 11: ton on the books for next year, so I think
- 50:21Speaker 11: they really believe in Castillo, and it's interesting. I think
- 50:24Speaker 11: the biggest thing about Castillo is I was reading a
- 50:27Speaker 11: lot of the stories coming from your great writers out
- 50:29Speaker 11: in Seattle there yesterday, and boy, he really made an
- 50:33Speaker 11: impact at that clubhouse. It sounds like, along with you know,
- 50:35Speaker 11: pitching some great games on the mound, and that's what
- 50:38Speaker 11: the Socks team is all about. You know, Chris Gatz
- 50:40Speaker 11: is being very mindful of the people he's adding to
- 50:43Speaker 11: this team. You know, he's not just looking for some
- 50:46Speaker 11: hired hand to come in and you know, play for
- 50:51Speaker 11: two or three months and that's it. He wants a
- 50:53Speaker 11: guy who's going to fit into what they're doing, and
- 50:55Speaker 11: he's cognitive not like disrupting what they've done already. And
- 50:58Speaker 11: I think Castillo fits that roper.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Hugely, hugely popular guys you probably.
- 51:03Speaker 11: Said it, sure seems like it from the quotes from
- 51:06Speaker 11: many different pictures and position players, the stories I was
- 51:09Speaker 11: reading yesterday.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, Pieter the Rock, they called him out here
- 51:12Speaker 2: and he solidified that that reputation for that Game two
- 51:16Speaker 2: performance against Toronto in the playoffs and twenty a couple
- 51:18Speaker 2: of years ago with the twenty twenty two. Now, that
- 51:20Speaker 2: was an amazing performance and he'll always be remembered in
- 51:22Speaker 2: Seattle for that. He starts Thursday in Boston. Is that right?
- 51:25Speaker 2: He goes right into the rotation that it is correct.
- 51:28Speaker 11: It's Davis. I think it is Davis Martin Sean Burke,
- 51:32Speaker 11: who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball,
- 51:35Speaker 11: over the last six or seven weeks, and then Louis
- 51:38Speaker 11: Castillo to finish it up in.
- 51:41Speaker 18: Boston.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Scott markin the White Sox beatwriter MLB dot Com joining
- 51:44Speaker 2: us on the Beacon Plumbing hotline from Saint Petersburg where
- 51:46Speaker 2: the White Sox have went off day. He's a veteran
- 51:48Speaker 2: beat writer to know to stay in the town you're
- 51:50Speaker 2: in before on the trade deadline day and then travel,
- 51:53Speaker 2: which is why he's behind the team. It's gone on
- 51:55Speaker 2: to Boston. Sir Anthony Demingez, what are the Mariners getting
- 51:58Speaker 2: in him?
- 51:59Speaker 13: You think?
- 52:00Speaker 11: You know they got him and it's interesting. One of
- 52:02Speaker 11: the things that I liked about the Sox team this
- 52:04Speaker 11: year that maybe hasn't been true in the past is
- 52:06Speaker 11: when things haven't worked, they've moved on. They haven't stayed
- 52:09Speaker 11: and tried to fit a square peg into a round hole.
- 52:12Speaker 11: Ser Anthony ming Is is first of a great guy
- 52:14Speaker 11: and handled some of the struggles that he had, you know,
- 52:17Speaker 11: up and down tremendously. He leads that he was the
- 52:20Speaker 11: closer for a while. He was the guy that Will
- 52:22Speaker 11: Venable named in spring training as the closer, and then
- 52:24Speaker 11: it didn't It wasn't working, you know, he's walking some guys,
- 52:28Speaker 11: he's gonna get some long balls in key situations. So
- 52:31Speaker 11: they used him for the past three weeks in a
- 52:33Speaker 11: little bit less of a leverage role, and he's been
- 52:36Speaker 11: pitching very well for them. I think he's been up
- 52:37Speaker 11: what one run in his last eight and two thirds innings,
- 52:41Speaker 11: guying a lot of playoff experience. I mean, was invaluable
- 52:43Speaker 11: to uh was very valuable, I should say to Toronto
- 52:46Speaker 11: in the run to almost winning the World Series last year.
- 52:49Speaker 11: I think he pitched some key innings in that last
- 52:52Speaker 11: game seven as a matter of fact. So he's he's
- 52:54Speaker 11: a guy who's been there, done that and will help,
- 52:56Speaker 11: you know, the Seattle bullpen, whether it's ninetheen and eight
- 53:00Speaker 11: sending or you know, an inning or two before that.
- 53:02Speaker 11: So good veteran guy. And then Boston Smith is a
- 53:05Speaker 11: guy they acquired in the Curtis meat trade and someone
- 53:09Speaker 11: who they see. They were just talking to the Minor
- 53:11Speaker 11: league director Paul Giannish was talking about this on Saturday
- 53:15Speaker 11: and in Florida that you know, he's a catcher, but
- 53:19Speaker 11: he can play other positions too, and his biggest thing
- 53:21Speaker 11: is he can hit. He's a bad guy and he's
- 53:22Speaker 11: had a great year at the play across the minor league,
- 53:25Speaker 11: so a guy to watch moving forward. And Nolan Jones also,
- 53:28Speaker 11: and people know about Nolan Jones. I think if you
- 53:30Speaker 11: get Nolan Jones in the right stretch, is the guy
- 53:32Speaker 11: who could probably help at the at the major league
- 53:34Speaker 11: level as well, so.
- 53:37Speaker 2: The minor league. Is a catcher who also is he
- 53:40Speaker 2: primarily a catch? I say, Listen is a catcher in
- 53:42Speaker 2: an outfielder, but is he basically a catcher?
- 53:46Speaker 11: He's a catcher, but I think it's kind of, you know,
- 53:48Speaker 11: it's he's kind of learning on the job sort of thing.
- 53:51Speaker 11: And he can play other positions too. He's a very
- 53:53Speaker 11: athletic kid. And really the biggest thing that you know,
- 53:56Speaker 11: we've heard about him this year is how well he's hit.
- 53:58Speaker 11: I think he's decond or third in the ORGANI is
- 54:01Speaker 11: in the minor league side and home runs for the
- 54:02Speaker 11: White Sox this year. So that's his biggest skill set
- 54:06Speaker 11: right now is offense.
- 54:08Speaker 2: Big picture, do you White Sox with a three games
- 54:11Speaker 2: with a four games up the games?
- 54:14Speaker 11: I think maybe yeah, three games over.
- 54:17Speaker 2: Yeah, they've opened up a three game lead on the Guardians,
- 54:19Speaker 2: in a four game lead on the twins in the
- 54:20Speaker 2: America League. So the Tigers are five and that back
- 54:23Speaker 2: you mentioned this might be a year early. Do you
- 54:26Speaker 2: think the White Sox are done? They got Castillo and
- 54:28Speaker 2: you they like the guys they got. Expected any more
- 54:30Speaker 2: moves before the trade deadline this afternoon six o'clock your time.
- 54:34Speaker 11: Well, they've added Brasamon from the Mets. Who's you know,
- 54:37Speaker 11: that's you know, bullpens and defense always helping the postseason, right,
- 54:42Speaker 11: you got to have good solid side on both of them.
- 54:44Speaker 11: They added Breton Doyle from the Rockies, who is a
- 54:47Speaker 11: two time Gold Glove winner who struggled offensively this year.
- 54:50Speaker 11: That was some injuries. I still think before six o'clock
- 54:54Speaker 11: where I'm at, and I guess what three o'clock where
- 54:55Speaker 11: you're at, it's going to be. They're gonna try and
- 54:58Speaker 11: get a catcher, you know, Kyle t who was their
- 55:00Speaker 11: number one guy, who was injured in the World Baseball
- 55:03Speaker 11: Classic while playing for Team Italy and just really hasn't
- 55:07Speaker 11: only been a short time healthy the whole year he
- 55:08Speaker 11: came with Ohio. He's dealing with a high ankle sprain
- 55:11Speaker 11: right now, probably will be out until mid September. They
- 55:15Speaker 11: have Edgar Carrow and Drew Romo. Right now, they have
- 55:18Speaker 11: Corey Lee and Michael Turner in the minor leagues. But
- 55:20Speaker 11: I think it's they're going to look at a catcher too.
- 55:22Speaker 11: Some of the catchers are coming off the market. I
- 55:24Speaker 11: ce Liam Hicks at Lee Rushman, you know, Stevenson is
- 55:27Speaker 11: still out there, possibly Jonah him So I think they'll
- 55:31Speaker 11: add there, but I think that may be it that,
- 55:32Speaker 11: you know, I mean, that would be four guys they've added,
- 55:35Speaker 11: and I can tell you they they probably hoped but
- 55:37Speaker 11: didn't think they'd be buyers at this point this year,
- 55:41Speaker 11: or not to this extreme level. Yeah. I mean they're
- 55:44Speaker 11: three up on the Guardian's four and the wins and
- 55:46Speaker 11: the team to watch, even with Scuball gone is the Tigers,
- 55:49Speaker 11: because the Tigers were the team that everyone thought was
- 55:51Speaker 11: gonna win this I think that's the other big thing
- 55:53Speaker 11: for the Socks this year. Not only are they ahead
- 55:55Speaker 11: to schedule, but the Tigers and Royals have been bad,
- 55:58Speaker 11: and those were the two teams who people thought we're
- 56:00Speaker 11: going to dominate dal Central going into the season, which
- 56:02Speaker 11: we all know how much that's worth, right, The predictions
- 56:05Speaker 11: don't always come to Grewraiz exactly, So, I mean Tigers
- 56:09Speaker 11: our team to watch, even you know, Scoopbol's great school
- 56:11Speaker 11: is one of the best in the game, if that's
- 56:12Speaker 11: the best in the game. But he only goes every
- 56:15Speaker 11: five days, right, so they still have some good players
- 56:18Speaker 11: on that team. They have seven head to head games
- 56:19Speaker 11: of the White Sox, so I would not as rough
- 56:23Speaker 11: as they've looked at times this year. I would not
- 56:26Speaker 11: completely roll them out, so it could be interesting, But
- 56:29Speaker 11: I do think the Socks are the best team in
- 56:30Speaker 11: that division, and they're in control and Chris Getz is,
- 56:33Speaker 11: as he said yesterday, fueling their push to the postseason.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Scott mentioned the Tigers fifty four and fifty eight, a
- 56:39Speaker 2: half game and behind the Mariners now in the standings
- 56:42Speaker 2: two and a half out of a wildcard, five and
- 56:44Speaker 2: a half back of the White Sox. In the American
- 56:46Speaker 2: League Center, the White Sox are leading the Guardians by
- 56:48Speaker 2: three in the Twins by four in the division. You
- 56:52Speaker 2: mentioned Will Venable real quick, Scott, what's he been like
- 56:54Speaker 2: as a manager? First time dealing with him and a
- 56:57Speaker 2: former player not too far removed from the game.
- 57:00Speaker 11: Yeah, he's tremendous. I mean he is, you know, he
- 57:03Speaker 11: is the right fits on this organization. As I said
- 57:07Speaker 11: a number of times, he is the perfect co pilot
- 57:10Speaker 11: with Chris Katz, and he's very even keel guy. He's
- 57:14Speaker 11: great for what the White Sax want in this organization overall.
- 57:18Speaker 11: But you know he's he expects, you know, strong play
- 57:22Speaker 11: out of his team too. He expects doing things right.
- 57:24Speaker 11: He expects a intensity and going for it from the
- 57:27Speaker 11: first out to the last out. And players have stressed
- 57:30Speaker 11: that over and over again. And I think they just,
- 57:33Speaker 11: you know, play harder than teams. And it's not even
- 57:36Speaker 11: saying that the other teams aren't playing hard. I think
- 57:38Speaker 11: it's just the Socks have that extra gear underwill and
- 57:41Speaker 11: that's made a big difference. And I think I was
- 57:43Speaker 11: going to Miguel Arcus, he's had such a wonderful year,
- 57:45Speaker 11: and he said that, you know, he has pointed out
- 57:47Speaker 11: how when you play, you know, when you play that
- 57:51Speaker 11: kind of baseball through one through twenty seven outs, you're
- 57:54Speaker 11: going to gain an advantage at some point. And that's
- 57:56Speaker 11: why they haven't lost more than three in a row
- 57:57Speaker 11: this year. That's part of the reason why they're a
- 58:00Speaker 11: first place team, you know, on August. But it's a
- 58:02Speaker 11: third all the days run together.
- 58:04Speaker 2: August. Yeah, exactly, spoke him like a true bull rider. Scott,
- 58:08Speaker 2: I know you're busy. You got a trade deadline the track.
- 58:10Speaker 2: We'll see if you get a catcher here before the
- 58:12Speaker 2: White Sox get done at six pm Eastern time. Thank
- 58:14Speaker 2: you for joining us. Appreciate it. Have a good season, sure,
- 58:17Speaker 2: thanks for having me.
- 58:18Speaker 11: I appreciate it.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Thank youre welcome. Scott Markin is a longtime beat writer
- 58:21Speaker 2: for the White Sox at MLB dot Com, saying that
- 58:26Speaker 2: they White Sox are going for it because they think
- 58:28Speaker 2: they have the best team in the ale CenTra, which
- 58:30Speaker 2: is why they traded for Luis Castillo. Castilla will start
- 58:32Speaker 2: on Thursday, make his White Sox debut in Fenway Park
- 58:36Speaker 2: against Boston. For Chicago goes right into their rotation, he said.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Sir Anthony Diminge is the reliever they got. Has really
- 58:42Speaker 2: been pitching well in a setup role after the White
- 58:45Speaker 2: Sox took him out of the closer role. Domingas has
- 58:48Speaker 2: This is the first season of a two year, twenty
- 58:50Speaker 2: million dollar contract the Mariners are inheriting, so they will
- 58:53Speaker 2: have him for next year for their bullpen as well.
- 58:56Speaker 2: He was a closer when Domingos was to begin the season.
- 59:00Speaker 2: A lot of you pink probably remember Sir Anthony Domingos
- 59:02Speaker 2: from the Alcs last year for the Whites for the
- 59:07Speaker 2: Blue Jays, and he gave it the Grand Slam to
- 59:09Speaker 2: a soar as in the one of the Seattle games
- 59:14Speaker 2: of the Alcs that broke a two too tie late
- 59:16Speaker 2: in the game and got the Mariners to win. There's
- 59:19Speaker 2: a lot of Mariner fans are saying, well, he has
- 59:21Speaker 2: already helped the Mariners before we even got here. I
- 59:23Speaker 2: would think he slides in out of the setup role.
- 59:25Speaker 2: He's been rolling in and lately pitching much better for
- 59:29Speaker 2: the White Sox. And they keep Andres Munis of course
- 59:32Speaker 2: as the closer because of how well he has pitched,
- 59:34Speaker 2: especially in the last eighteen or outings or so. Speaking
- 59:38Speaker 2: of the Mariners, in the last half hours, so they
- 59:40Speaker 2: made official the Taylor Ward trade from the Orioles, the
- 59:43Speaker 2: Mariners sending right hander Alex Hoppy and minor league righty's
- 59:47Speaker 2: Brockmore and Harrison Criling to the Orioles. None neither of
- 59:50Speaker 2: those two minor leaguers were on their top prospects list.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Justin Hollander, the Mariners general manager, is quote on Taylor
- 59:59Speaker 2: Ward coming from the Oriels to the Mariners quote, We're
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: excited to add Taylor to or a lineup. He has
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: proven to be a consistent performer that is the very
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: best in the league getting on base. We are thrilled
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: to be adding a player of his caliber to the team.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: He's the right handed bat. They wanted, an on base
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: guy that they wanted. Leads the American League at walks
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: as was last year a home run guy. Taylor Ward
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: was playing right field for the Angels. Hit thirty six
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: home runs last year for the Angels. This year, he
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: has only seven home runs and he's becoming on base guy,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: a walks and on base guy for Baltimore this year
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: while playing left field. We'll see where he actually fits in.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: But a right handed bat. The Mariners getting Taylor Ward
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: from the Baltimore Orioles this morning for three pitchers not
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: in their top prospects list.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: I think this is what you were referring to, Greg.
- 1:00:50Speaker 13: Yes, I mean hold the fireworks.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: Yeah, have to be played at that point.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: That was Game five in the America League Championship Series
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: last October seventeenth, when Sir Anthony Domingas gave up the
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: game winning eighth, then in grand Slam to a Johannio Suarez.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: The place was off the hook that was in the
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: yard that night, and it was it was so loud.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Marina is winning that game thanks to Domingo's serving it up.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Now Domingos will go into a setup role coming from
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: the White Sox in the Luis Castillo trade four nine
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: four five one. Your thoughts on the Luis Castillo trade?
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Do you think that guy do that Jerry Depotle got
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: went over on the White Sox to take all the money. Maybe,
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: I mean maybe to me, this is an addition by subtraction.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: They had a six man logjam. It was messing everybody
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: up with the piggybacking and the six man rotation in
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: the extra rest, and none of the pictures liked it.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: They got rid of, got rid of. They traded Castillo
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: and got the White Sox to take all of his money,
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: which we thought was gonna make it hard to deal
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Castile on terms the Mariners would like. They did it.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: I think it's a coup for Depoto for what the
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: owners want, and John Stanton went to their bottom line.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Sir Anthony Domingez perhaps doesn't make them all that better.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: But it is a bullpen arm and a bullpen that
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: has had three Triple A pictures in it for the
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: last month, throwing in high leverage situations, So Diminga's is
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: better than that. I think it's a win for the Mariners.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: I think they got more than they could have expected
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: at the start of this process. And we said it
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: just man, this is why they kept Castillo in the rotation. Yeah,
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: if you put in the bullpen, the white starts aren't
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: taking all that money. Yeah, we were.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: We were quite obvious about that.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: When I say we, I mean Seattle the Mariners were,
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: but it was pretty transparent.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: But it it messed with the rotation for a few months.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Get this result. I mean the pitchers didn't like it
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: and piggybacking and all of that. It was a disruption
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: to this season. The Mariners still have time to rebound
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: from that. There are three games back in the aos
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: from the trash Cans have suddenly caught fire and won
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: sixth straight up. Next to come a Dot's text line
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: four nine, four or five one. I just asked the
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: latest question and seeking your opinions on and talkbacks iHeartRadio
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: app or ninety three KJR dot com to the red
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: microphone button. The Jusman adores and hopes to play back.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: Really, I really do.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: You're part of the show. Next on ninety three point
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: three KJRFF.
- 1:03:58Speaker 18: For the Mariners, Rob Refschneider or another right handed hitter,
- 1:04:04Speaker 18: maybe at a Rose Arena, but we keep them just for.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: The hitting.
- 1:04:14Speaker 19: As far as the Seahawks, a spread out attack for
- 1:04:19Speaker 19: white receivers, including the tight end. You're US Coast Guard listener, and.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: They're Greg and Jessman. What's not to like?
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: Trading from depth, getting rid of an aging starting pitcher
- 1:04:35Speaker 7: and getting back a reliever and maybe a prospect. And
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: with Taylor Ward, you pick up an on base guy
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: for absolutely nothing.
- 1:04:45Speaker 13: So I like it.
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: But we're still sub five hundred and we're still playing mediocre.
- 1:04:52Speaker 7: So let's see how all this plays out. Wake me
- 1:04:54Speaker 7: up in September.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Guys, if they could trade ref Schneider, that would probably
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: be the biggest coup ever by Jerry Depoto.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Oh gosh, yeah, there's no way he's going.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: To get anything in return for a one to thirty hitter.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: They would have to DFA to designate for assignment ref Snyder,
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: and then he'll become a free agent. There's no way
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: anyone would claim him off. Wait, no one would sign
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: him to that contract with six and a half million
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: dollars for one thirty hitter. Yeah, unfortunately, I won't be
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: able trade ref Snyder. I don't think. But yeah, the
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: point's a good one that they didn't give up a
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: ton at all, huh for Taylor Ward for the right
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: handed batter, and they didn't. Some people were saying, well,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: this wasn't the last Castillo trade. Didn't help the team? Yeah?
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Did it helped him for next year in a year
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: after to not have Castillo's contract, and they do have
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: eight veteran bullpen arm which again they've been thrown out
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: three triple A but really was in the last month
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: in high leverage.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: All right, this coming in from the four two five.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: Good point about the impact of Cassio.
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: I thought he would be moved, but over the last
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: two successful years you lose Castillo and Suarez, who are
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: both reported to be good in the clubhouse.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. There is an impact, and in baseball,
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: especially with as much time as they spend together on
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: the road one hundred and sixty two games, travels, hotels,
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: that stuff matters. It does the players really really respected
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: and admired Luis kissed you well.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: I think that's why they brought Geno back last year.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: It wasn't for his bat. They wanted him, they wanted
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: the person, right, Okay.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Two five three, Greg.
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: If everyone says on paper the Mariners should be running
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: away with a vision and they're not, is that not
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: the fault of the manager. I understand players need to
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: be accountable, but if everyone agrees the talent's there and
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: not performing, does that not come down to motivation by
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: the manager?
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: This is high school. I don't think you need to
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: motivate major league players as a manager. That should be
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: your job. But those guys should be motivated by attack.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: They're making millions of dollars and on a team that
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: was eight outs from the World Series, I think why
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: should Dan Wilson be responsible from getting those guys fired
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: up to play? Well?
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: He did a really good job of it in the clubhouse.
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: What I witnessed when I was in there when they
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: clinched a playoff spot and the Al West, I could
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: see that impact.
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: But that was after wins.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean when I was in the clubhouse
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: during the playoffs last year in the DS and Division
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: Series and in Toronto at the American Championship Series when
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: I was jumping between Jacksonville and Toronto covering that ALCS
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: the players really respect him, Dan Wilson, and the fact
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: that he was a former player himself, the cachet of
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: him being a legendary Mariners legend anyway catcher, all of
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: that has value inside the clubhouse. But to me, a
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: major league player should not have a manager needing to
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: motivate them. A major league manager needs to push the
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: right buttons and make the right decisions and see it,
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: trust his gun, and to write bullpen choices. And Wilson
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: has failed in many of those regards for sure. But
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Wilson is always also, i should say, as we've mentioned,
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: been handcuffed by some of the limited options he's had
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: a bullpen. We've talked about this. The six man rotation
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: has left him one reliever short in the bullpen. By
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: major league, Lee can only have thirteen pitchers. Six of
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: them are starters. They have one fewer start have had
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: until the Castillo trade, one fewer reliever than any other team,
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: and three of those seven relievers were Triple A guys.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: To be a rucker, and well it was in Cooper Criswell,
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: who's now injured is at the beginning of the season
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: wasn't supposed to be a leverage guy either. That's the
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: roster they constructed. Dan Dan Wilson didn't bring Rob Repschneider
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: to Seattle, No he didn't. This is when he looks
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: and needs an option off the bench late in the game,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: he looks down the bench and he's a one thirty
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: reps Snider at the play on the bench. That's not him,
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: that's not Dan Wilson. Wilson could just keep them there
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: and not bring them in, but then he would be
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: going against the handedness and the analytics and the iPads
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: as well. And that's not why he's here either. That's
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: why he's the manager because he suggested that.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's also why agers here.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: It's the same kind of thing, and it worked really
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: well last year. It did work really well. But I
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: do stand the frustration coming from fans totally.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: And we've talked about this, the fifty years of them
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: never being in the World Series, meaning that fans and
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: parent their fans get the gripe forever. They have a
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: license to be upset. They have a license to be frustrated.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: They have a license to ask for accountability and demand better.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: They have all of that. They have more than earned
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: their right to be upset at this season for sure. Now,
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: last year it worked because their catcher hit sixty plus
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: home runs.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: Well that was kind of nice. That was a little neat,
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: wasn't it.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that worked a little better than it was. He
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: had and catcher this year.
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: Okay, Well, I am so sorry, but we are we
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: have been remiss to mention our word of the hour,
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: So we're just gonna sneak in here with that one,
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: brought to you by Bellevue rare Coins. We've got bonus
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: bucks for you, chance at one thousand dollars. Go to
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: nine three three kjr dot com and our keyword for
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: this hour is new three letters. Uh not, I knew
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: that we were going to do a word. It's a
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: new thousand dollars that you could have in your pocket.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: Go to nine three three KJR dot com and you'll
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: be automatically prompted to enter that word.
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: And that's your chance at one thousand bucks.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Thank you, justin you not it.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: Switching over to Seahawks nine seven oh says, excited to
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: see Horden and Arroyo back. Who are they going to
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: focus on with Rashid, JSN, Barner and Price. I feel
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: like we're more balanced this year. Let the league keep
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: talking about the Lambs and the forty whiners.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, the All Pro NFL offensive player of
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: the year that's make one hundred and sixty eight million
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: dollars is the one that you focus He's your number one, obviously,
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: but the Seahawks hope is that the defense is focus
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: on him too because of now what he's accomplished the
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: last year and seventeen hundred plus yards and that that
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: opens up Cup and that opens up Warner, and that
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: opens up the speed guys Rashid Shaheed and Tory Horton
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: down the field. But yes, Jackson's unlike last year. I mean,
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: the leagueknew about Jacksonsmith with Jigua, but this year, his
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: reputation will absolutely precede him in defensive game plans, rolling
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: safeties over to him and all of that.
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: That's also how decoys happened.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: And you look at like we talked about earlier, how
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: they can stretch the field out because of all the
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: weapons that they've acquired exactly.
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, another talkback came in, Grag.
- 1:11:44Speaker 20: You can't have it both ways with Dan Woolson. If
- 1:11:46Speaker 20: he's not responsible for losing, I mean, what is he
- 1:11:50Speaker 20: responsible for. He's responsible for the entire operation, and the
- 1:11:54Speaker 20: entire operations three games under and are failing.
- 1:11:57Speaker 13: This is a broken team.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Frustration coming in.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Totally warranted. Yeah, but he's not. He is not responsible
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: for the entire operation, or if he was, he wouldn't
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: be the manager. He's responsible for carrying out what the
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: front office demands he do and the players that he has.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: That that is why he's the manager. I'm convinced of that.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: I am convinced that the reason they've hired two first
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: time managers in a row Scott Service for nine years
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: and Dan Wilson to replace Scott Service in the middle
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: of the season from never having managed anywhere at any level,
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: is because they agreed to go with the program. They said, Okay,
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: we know what your analytics driven, your handedness, your bullpen rules,
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: and guys not being able to pitch on consecutive days
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: at the time. The guy's not going to be able
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: to start new innings and come in in the middle
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: of all of that, all of that that a manager
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: signed up for. That's why he did. He never he
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: didn't have any leverage to say, ah, I'm not going
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: to do that. He never managed before.
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you know, first time manager, I mean technically
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: second time now.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm not trying to say that Dan Wilson
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: is blameless. If your team is as talented a eight
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: outs away from the World Series last year is suddenly
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: four games under five hundred, the manager's not doing the
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: job his best of his abilities and expectations, of course,
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: but I'm just saying, unlike a lot of teams, more
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: so in Seattle, the manager does with the front office
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: dictates he do, and he also has left with what
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: the front office designed as a team. And if you've
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: got Rob Refschneider and Michael Rucker in as your leverage
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: guys and hitting and pitching at the end of games,
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: that is not Dan Wilson's fault. That that's his options
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: to go to. That's my point. I agree, he has
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: to play who's been put on the roster.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: And as we mentioned earlier, before we get out of here,
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: we're going to hear from the East Side.
- 1:13:44Speaker 20: Hey, guys, love the show. Like always, I'm over here
- 1:13:48Speaker 20: and Spokane it will has been a little crazy over
- 1:13:51Speaker 20: here in the last couple of days. Shout out to
- 1:13:52Speaker 20: everyone who's in trouble and a need, and shout out
- 1:13:56Speaker 20: to everyone who's taken care.
- 1:13:57Speaker 13: Of those people.
- 1:14:00Speaker 20: Yeah, shout out to Mead Washington pretty bad over there.
- 1:14:04Speaker 20: I'm on the South Hill, so I'm just kind of
- 1:14:06Speaker 20: looking off at the distance, but it felt like Vietnam
- 1:14:10Speaker 20: on Saturday night. It was pretty damn crazy.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, our thoughts go out to everyone out there.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: Yeah, the images of Spokane County and Cholanne area for
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: that matter too, had just been horrific. And that's a dangerous,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: dangerous job. Those guys and gals are out there doing
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: fighting wildfires in the eastern Washington. Are hoops to that,
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: and all the best for them and all the best
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: for the people of Eastern Washington. Coming up being for
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Nest the mayor and Maple Valley, a product of Eastern Washington,
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Washington State University. He's going to join me here from
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: the edge of the practice fields at Seahawks Training Camp
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: live on ninety three point three kJ oft them Welcome
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: back the next training camp. The Virginia Mason Athletics Center,
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: Greg bel Jessman McIntyre with you as we are every
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: day ten am to noon on ninety three point three,
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Kay jarffon eighth practice of camp today and for Nessa
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: join us and he'll be on the air from twelve
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: until three. And he joins me right now outside the
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: practice field. Oh sir, are you here?
- 1:15:23Speaker 13: Well?
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: Got good weekend? Good? Everything's good? Good? What are you
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: expecting today on your show or at the practice or
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: whatever you want to do? Well practice? Who knows? Obviously
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: MLB trade deadline is the big thing waiting to see.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: Do you think the marriage are done? I don't think so.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: I hope not. I mean, what's left for you? Trying
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: to get better? But they got it bad.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: They got a guy that gets on base yep, right
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: handed bed. They got a guy that gets on base
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: as absolutely like has gone from pretty good pop to
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: zero pop, which is.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: Weird thirty six summer to seven thirty last year at
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: the Angels. I mean just weird like Brady Anderson type
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: of numbers.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, or Cal Rawley, except for he gets
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: on base, which Cal doesn't, so yeah, so I mean
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: they're a little bit better with him. The castile thing
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: was nothing more than a salary dump. So I mean,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: can you believe they got white sox that take all
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: the money.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: I just don't care, honest honestly, I'm not trying to
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: be flippant. I don't care. That's why he did it.
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: I don't. But but let me there, if you're a
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: fan and you're celebrating it, I tell me why.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: Well, it doesn't help you. It does explain why Topoto
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: has been in his job for eleven okay, but that
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: doesn't help me. That doesn't That does not help me
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: as a fan. Doesn't win you baseball games by saving money,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: like like that was the whole thing. That's making a
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: great deal by the mirror, like what, well, they get
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: dumped the salary.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: He also gets rid of the six man pitching staff
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: that was reckoned and the other.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Five castilla and the bullpen would have been better. Don't
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: you think he would have been better than getting to
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: three slappies they got. But they never took him out
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: of it, so they know and they could they couldn't
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: because of his standing, I guess in the in the clubhouse.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: But yeah, that one, that one, to me was just nothing.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: I will not celebrate that. I just will not give
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: them credit for that. They they've traded, they got rid
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: of salary. Beers not cheaper. Tickets aren't cheaper. Hot dogs
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: aren't cheaper. If you're a fan, it doesn't affect you
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: at all. Uh, now Ward helps them, obviously, that the
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: other move helps him. That that you're you're a better
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: baseball team because he's Taylor. Ward's better than Robless, He's
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: better than ref Snyder, right for sure. So that helps you.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: So I like that.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: So like when you ask me what I want them
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: to make moves, I mean, if you're a mator fan,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: you should be hoping they make moves. The Red Sox
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: have gotten a lot better today, Uh you know, I
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: mean you look around the league. I mean Tampa got
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: better obviously, the Dodgers being the Dodgers doing their thing,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: which doesn't really affect you unless you.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Get to the World Series. And at that point, who cares.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Let's get to the World Series.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: Like again, if you're a matter of fan, you're you're
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: having consternation over that, Like, Okay, well, you know what,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: here's the worst worst case scenario. They beat you in
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: the World Series. Then you get to the World's for
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: the first time in fifty years. I'm okay, problem, I
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: have a great problem to have. If we're breaking down
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: how they lost the World Series, I'm I'll take that
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: I'm all in. We had a White Sox beat writer
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: on from MLB dot Com and Scott Markin was telling
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: us that the White Sox see this as a go
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: to time, go for a time because the American League
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: is so far down, which is where the Mariners. I
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: mean they're not that far out of no.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: No, I mean two out of a wildcard, three out
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: of the division. So yeah, like I hope they try
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: to get better. I mean, and I'm sure the White
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Sox I'm assuming he would have told you the White
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Sox feel like Castile helps her rotation.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: Yes he does. Yeah, they're going He's going right into
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: it on Thursday first start.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: I mean, he's your guy, that's been he's been your
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: playoff anchor for the two times. That's true, right, So yeah,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: if I'm the White Sox, I feel good about it.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: But you know, a prospect catcher and asso bullpen arm
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: and a prospect outfielder who hasn't been in the bigs
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: this year, I don't know let's see whatever. But yeah,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: war makes them better, which I do like that. I
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: think you get to like that a lot if you're
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: a Marathan you doing today, all I wop it at
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: one and then we'll just kind of keep Chris on
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: standby until three when we go off the air, in
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: case anything else happens. And you know, he knows the prospects,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: he knows the guys that are getting moved, and and
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: so that kind of helps us a little bit navigate
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: the landscape.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: And so we'll see that and I'll also kind of
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: see what's going on out here today.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: It's nice, quiet day, no no fans, huh quiet, very
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: different deal, Yeah, very different.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: Isn't it different? It's crazy, it's yeah, it's so different.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: You go from you go from like just like a
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: circus like atmosphere of carnival sort of so to speak.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: It's so much energy and then it's just business today,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: like just straight up business.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I don't think the players like it. No fans are here,
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: because then it feels like a grind.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it feels like you're in October, November, December, right, Yeah,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: except for the weather's a lot better. That's the weather's
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: significantly better. So yeah, I every guy I've always talked
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: to since they like the energy to fans bring, and
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: you know, frankly, I think.
- 1:19:57Speaker 18: We do too.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: From a radio standpoint, it's kind of fun to you
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: kind of feel like you come up a little bit.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Sure had a game at big events, So yeah, back,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: I think fans back tomorrow.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: Right yep. Yeah, I'll be here all week and Seahawks
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: and practice in here all week. I and Farness will
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: be here until Friday when he goes to the boweing class. No,
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: I'm here all week Classic next week. But he ends
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: up next to going to take you all the way
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: up to the Major League Baseball team, then said three PM.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: So whenever the Marigers make a movie, he.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: Don't trade where Jared Washburn today? Do you think remember
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: that you're like that trade would not trade him to
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: save their life.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: They wouldn't trade him like trade Jared Washburg. I was
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: sitting right here that day.
- 1:20:34Speaker 13: I remember that.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Thanks for listening, Greg bel jessem Nact would be with
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: you again tomorrow from Seahawks training camp at ten am.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: He ends up next to ninety three point three kJ
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: R FM.
