- 0:48Speaker 1: on the show Jeff, How you doing on this Monday?
- 0:52Speaker 2: I am great, Josh, how are you?
- 0:54Speaker 3: I'm doing good?
- 0:55Speaker 1: And I wanted to get into kind of the conversation
- 0:58Speaker 1: you guys were having on this morning pod. You know,
- 1:01Speaker 1: listening to you guys talk about, you know, the contracts
- 1:04Speaker 1: when it comes to these d linemen and the fact
- 1:07Speaker 1: that you know you already gave Jordan Davis right the
- 1:11Speaker 1: contract and now at some point you got to give
- 1:13Speaker 1: Jillen Carter the contract. Before I get into the nitty,
- 1:17Speaker 1: you know, the more the details of it, I wanted
- 1:19Speaker 1: you kind of give everybody a perspective and understanding of
- 1:22Speaker 1: like why some of these contracts are a conversation. I
- 1:26Speaker 1: think people forget that the Eagles have a lot of
- 1:29Speaker 1: young players who It's not just Jillen Carter, it's Mitchell,
- 1:33Speaker 1: it's de Gene. There's a lot of guys who would
- 1:36Speaker 1: be coming up for contracts over the next couple of years,
- 1:38Speaker 1: and the Eagles are to make some very I think
- 1:42Speaker 1: it's fair to say difficult decisions here.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Josh, we do this series every year. We call
- 1:49Speaker 2: it our Contract Eagles Contract Series, and we did a
- 1:52Speaker 2: little differently this year because there were so many different
- 1:56Speaker 2: players with contracts that have language that really mean a
- 2:00Speaker 2: lot for either this year or for next year and
- 2:04Speaker 2: then the years beyond. So we wound up instead of
- 2:07Speaker 2: doing offense one episode, defense another, we broke it up
- 2:10Speaker 2: into position groups because the Eagles have so much young
- 2:14Speaker 2: talent and also a combination of they have so many
- 2:17Speaker 2: high priced players on big time contracts, especially you know,
- 2:22Speaker 2: you go look at the offensive line, they got four
- 2:23Speaker 2: guys on extensions, the running back, the quarterback, the wide receiver, right,
- 2:28Speaker 2: so tight end. It's really worth looking deeper into. And
- 2:33Speaker 2: that's why we do this because we found that there
- 2:35Speaker 2: are more different scenarios this year than ever before. If
- 2:39Speaker 2: you go, if you listen to our pods last week,
- 2:42Speaker 2: which was more which were more offensive focus, you'll realize
- 2:46Speaker 2: that this is a very big year for Jalen Hurts,
- 2:49Speaker 2: for Sakwon Barkley and some of the offensive linemen. Because
- 2:53Speaker 2: when you're guaranteed money is up, your job security is
- 2:57Speaker 2: at stake, you know. And then you have a different
- 3:00Speaker 2: situation with Devonte Smith who's in the middle of an extension.
- 3:04Speaker 2: His money will run out soon, not immediately, but you
- 3:08Speaker 2: want to be able to get ahead of what the
- 3:10Speaker 2: market is about to become. As I mentioned in the
- 3:13Speaker 2: pod and Adam talked about it too, next year at
- 3:16Speaker 2: this time, I mean, you got Puka Nakua coming up
- 3:18Speaker 2: on an extension. You've got George Pickens playing on the
- 3:21Speaker 2: franchise tag. He's gonna get an extension, You've got Zay Flowers,
- 3:26Speaker 2: Jordan Addison, and probably two other guys who are like
- 3:30Speaker 2: a Jamar Chase who's probably gonna wind up eventually getting
- 3:33Speaker 2: a new deal soon too, and that makes the number higher.
- 3:36Speaker 2: So it makes more sense now to get Devontae Smith
- 3:40Speaker 2: his contract extension, then waiting for this time next year
- 3:43Speaker 2: when you have to compete against all those when the
- 3:46Speaker 2: salary tag, I'm sorry, the price tag goes higher and higher.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And the egos are a really interesting spot because they
- 3:54Speaker 2: have so many young players on defense who you theoretically
- 3:58Speaker 2: want to extend from. As we already talked about, right,
- 4:02Speaker 2: Carter Davis was already under extension. Moro Jomo's up for
- 4:06Speaker 2: one Jie ex hunt at this time next year, you
- 4:09Speaker 2: know your your defensive backs Cooper to Jean and Quinnon Mitchell.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I mean, you just can't pay everybody. It's gonna be
- 4:15Speaker 2: really fascinating to see what happens.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And I think that what you just mentioned about some
- 4:20Speaker 1: of those names is also the idea of who is
- 4:24Speaker 1: and isn't behind those guys, right, you know when the
- 4:28Speaker 1: Eagle let go Melton Well Williams with the understanding of
- 4:34Speaker 1: well we got still got Moro Jomo we can lean into, right,
- 4:37Speaker 1: And I think that the drafting of Ty Robinson maybe
- 4:40Speaker 1: was with the hope that if Morojomo blew up, that
- 4:44Speaker 1: they could afford to let him go.
- 4:45Speaker 3: But Robinson hasn't stepped up yet.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So you know how much of it is about the
- 4:49Speaker 1: guys behind the guys. That is a factor in this conversation, Jeff.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It's all about the guys behind the guys. Because when
- 4:58Speaker 2: you do well in the draft, like the Eagles have done,
- 5:01Speaker 2: and you have someone coming up in the pipeline you
- 5:04Speaker 2: just mentioned it, Milton Williams. You can't pay Milton Williams
- 5:07Speaker 2: twenty six million dollars a year and still have the
- 5:11Speaker 2: guys that you have under contract the way it is
- 5:12Speaker 2: because you already had Jordan Davis and Jaylen Carter. Right,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I'm sorry, yeah, yeah, So the same thing here with
- 5:20Speaker 2: Moro Ajomo. He can probably follow in the footsteps of
- 5:24Speaker 2: Milton Williams if he has a big year and make
- 5:27Speaker 2: a really good paycheck on the free agent market next year.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It'll be hard for the Eagles to find a way
- 5:33Speaker 2: to extend him unless he really agrees to a team
- 5:36Speaker 2: friendly deal. But why would he want to do that
- 5:38Speaker 2: at this point. So yeah, it's it's a lot about
- 5:40Speaker 2: the guys behind the guys, and that's why it's so
- 5:43Speaker 2: important to be a draft and developed team so that
- 5:47Speaker 2: if you do have to let certain guys walk away.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You know, Isaac Samollo a couple of years ago was
- 5:52Speaker 2: still playing at a very high level. They had Landon Dickerson, right,
- 5:55Speaker 2: they had Tyler Steen so or at that time, actually
- 5:59Speaker 2: they had Cam Jurgens who could play right guard for
- 6:01Speaker 2: a year. That's why it's really important that they always
- 6:04Speaker 2: hit on their second, third, fourth round pick so that
- 6:08Speaker 2: they because they know they can't pay everybody. You know,
- 6:11Speaker 2: John Campbell was going to step into a role where
- 6:14Speaker 2: Nikobe Dean played great, but they just couldn't afford to
- 6:16Speaker 2: keep Nikcobe Dean and Zach Bond, who's on a top
- 6:20Speaker 2: linebacker market money.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And with all that being said, let's flip over to
- 6:25Speaker 1: the real centerpiece of this conversation, which is the aforementioned
- 6:30Speaker 1: Jlen Carter, because you guys talk about this morning about
- 6:32Speaker 1: how no matter when the Eagles get in the contract,
- 6:35Speaker 1: he's going to become the latest guy to quote unquote
- 6:39Speaker 1: break the number right, He's gonna become the latest guy
- 6:41Speaker 1: to set the market. And I thought it was very
- 6:44Speaker 1: important to point out what you had aver thought about
- 6:46Speaker 1: this morning, which was and you gotta talk about before
- 6:49Speaker 1: on the pods, about the cash allotment of all this. Right,
- 6:53Speaker 1: the Chiefs are a team, you guys mentioned this morning,
- 6:55Speaker 1: arteenly does not do a lot of cash front deals.
- 6:58Speaker 3: The Eagles are a team. There's a cash front deal.
- 7:01Speaker 1: So kind of explain to the audience why Jill and
- 7:03Speaker 1: Carter's contract may look like it's more money than Chris Jones,
- 7:09Speaker 1: but it will probably be structured very differently.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Right, Well, structure is always different. They use option bonuses
- 7:16Speaker 2: that a lot of teams don't use. And when those
- 7:18Speaker 2: option bonuses, what they basically do is make sure that
- 7:22Speaker 2: you're playing at the high level to command the money
- 7:25Speaker 2: that you're due in that year and so and a
- 7:28Speaker 2: lot of times those decisions have to be made sooner
- 7:31Speaker 2: than later. So sometimes it is a gamble and a
- 7:34Speaker 2: risk assuming a guy's going to continue to play the
- 7:36Speaker 2: same way next year that he played the last year.
- 7:39Speaker 2: But it's better than having guaranteed money and you know,
- 7:42Speaker 2: five six years down in the contract and then really
- 7:46Speaker 2: having that come and biting you in the rear end.
- 7:49Speaker 2: But when Jillen Carter signs his contract, no matter how
- 7:52Speaker 2: you slice it, it's going to come with a lot
- 7:54Speaker 2: of guaranteed money and a high average annual value. That
- 7:58Speaker 2: will probably that he'll he'll undoubtedly be the highest paid
- 8:02Speaker 2: defensive tackle in the game, which therefore will probably make
- 8:04Speaker 2: him the highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history for
- 8:07Speaker 2: about twenty minutes until the next defensive tackle in free
- 8:11Speaker 2: agency gets more.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I want to know from you.
- 8:17Speaker 1: You know, we saw a happ with Jordan Davis, right,
- 8:19Speaker 1: Jordan Davis was out of shape. He was basically basically
- 8:22Speaker 1: a health wise played himself out of like the main rotation.
- 8:27Speaker 1: He lost a bunch of weight, He lost over thirty pounds.
- 8:30Speaker 1: He gets the extension. Do you think it was a
- 8:31Speaker 1: part of Jillian Carter looked at Jordan Davis and said, well,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you lost a bunch of weight and got paid. Maybe
- 8:36Speaker 1: I should do the same thing. As we keep hearing
- 8:38Speaker 1: how he's in the best shape of his life. He
- 8:40Speaker 1: looks better than ever. We've seen the videos of him
- 8:42Speaker 1: doing your big shoulder press serverts head showing is his
- 8:45Speaker 1: shoulders are back in shape. Fangio was saying how oh,
- 8:49Speaker 1: Jill looks great this off season. I love how he
- 8:51Speaker 1: said this off season about like Carter, you Knowanger's not
- 8:56Speaker 1: afraid to tell.
- 8:56Speaker 3: You if someone's in shape or not right.
- 8:59Speaker 1: But like, still, it's interesting that maybe Jordan, what happened,
- 9:02Speaker 1: Jordan Davis may have kind of like pushed Jill in
- 9:05Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you'd have to get inside his head.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I kind of think the situations are a little bit
- 9:10Speaker 2: different in that Carter's getting in shapement, getting the shoulders right.
- 9:16Speaker 2: That was a medical condition that goes back to Georgia,
- 9:19Speaker 2: and for whatever reason, they just weren't able to stay
- 9:22Speaker 2: ahead of it as an Eagle. I mean, he did
- 9:24Speaker 2: have a very good rookie year, but obviously you saw,
- 9:28Speaker 2: you know, last year the shoulders really inhibited him. We
- 9:32Speaker 2: all remember the Chicago game. Not that he was the
- 9:34Speaker 2: only culprit, but he clearly wasn't himself last year, and
- 9:39Speaker 2: so I think that was more why this all season
- 9:43Speaker 2: for him was dedicated to strengthening and making sure the
- 9:46Speaker 2: shoulders are right, and yes for the contract of mine,
- 9:48Speaker 2: because he wants to get the big contract and the
- 9:51Speaker 2: Eagles of course want to be able to give it
- 9:53Speaker 2: to him knowing that they know he's doing everything he
- 9:57Speaker 2: can to be a viable, dominant long term player.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher joining us from the Inside the Birds podcast,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Inside the Birds dot coms.
- 10:06Speaker 3: You got all of Jeff's covers.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Of the Eagles also at Philly Voice, joining us here
- 10:09Speaker 1: for a moosher Monday Football at four on nine seven
- 10:12Speaker 1: three ESPN.
- 10:14Speaker 3: When it comes to.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Evaluating these guys when it comes to the contracts, right, Jeff,
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know, and whether it is Carter or Degene or
- 10:21Speaker 1: even throw there at Nolan Smith because he's a guy
- 10:23Speaker 1: who's been very underwhelming, right, and we don't know what.
- 10:26Speaker 3: His future necessarily is.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Do you believe that the stability of the defensive coordinator
- 10:32Speaker 1: and the defensive scheme is actually going to maybe help
- 10:35Speaker 1: with some of that evaluation when it comes to the
- 10:37Speaker 1: contracts versus on the offensive side of the ball, where
- 10:40Speaker 1: it's like, you got these offensive coordinators changing every single year,
- 10:44Speaker 1: and you have to wonder a little bit how easy
- 10:46Speaker 1: or not easy it will be to evaluate.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Some of the guys on that side of the ball.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think in some respects, this should be a
- 10:55Speaker 2: very good defense, and you expect the players that the
- 10:58Speaker 2: Eagles want to extend well to continue to succeed within it,
- 11:02Speaker 2: because to your point, there's not going to be much
- 11:05Speaker 2: of a change, especially if Vick is being serious about
- 11:08Speaker 2: coaching at least two more years, because then, as you mentioned,
- 11:11Speaker 2: you know that you've got the right pieces for the scheme.
- 11:14Speaker 2: So as long as they've shown that they can perform
- 11:16Speaker 2: within it, then you have no reason to think that
- 11:20Speaker 2: they're not going through. Whereas you're right, you're going to
- 11:24Speaker 2: take a look at this offense this year and you're
- 11:25Speaker 2: gonna see, are there certain guys that don't fit in it?
- 11:27Speaker 2: Is there is we need to kind of change some pieces.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You know, does one guy fit a wide zone blocking
- 11:33Speaker 2: scheme better than another guy? There's one receiver function better
- 11:37Speaker 2: in space than another. So yeah, I think that's a
- 11:40Speaker 2: little bit of a fair statement. But in the end,
- 11:42Speaker 2: talent always wins out. If you're a talented player and
- 11:44Speaker 2: you're playing your capabilities, and you'll usually get your extension
- 11:48Speaker 2: or the team will, you know, let you walk in
- 11:51Speaker 2: a big extension and look for that compic in return.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it just my mind goes visibly as an Olan
- 11:57Speaker 1: Smith because of the fact that he is not he
- 12:01Speaker 1: the the gap right now, between him and Gilex Hunt
- 12:04Speaker 1: is like ridiculous for me, Like I look at it
- 12:07Speaker 1: like Jelex Hunt keeps getting better each and every year
- 12:11Speaker 1: and Nolan Smith significantly regressed.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Now, wasn't it because just because of the injury? Was
- 12:15Speaker 3: that because of him?
- 12:16Speaker 1: I don't know, but I don't think it's a coincidence
- 12:19Speaker 1: that the Eagles have brought in a g At Panessa
- 12:22Speaker 1: after mandatory camp almost to be like, hey, when we
- 12:26Speaker 1: get the training camp, this guy is gonna be here now.
- 12:29Speaker 1: So we were gonna really find out when competition comes in,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and a Paness is a way better player. No offense
- 12:35Speaker 1: to these other guys, some of the guys they brought
- 12:37Speaker 1: in past years, right, Jeff, Some other guys have brought
- 12:39Speaker 1: in past years and being kind of like, I remember
- 12:42Speaker 1: that guy had one okay year or two okay years.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Janessa is a guy who's like, you know, people a
- 12:48Speaker 1: lot of people wanted the Eagles a draft years ago.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's he's uh. I would say he's
- 12:56Speaker 2: a lower ceiling kind of player. He is what he is.
- 12:59Speaker 2: But you're right, floor is as a good versatile front
- 13:03Speaker 2: seven player who can play the edge. You can probably
- 13:06Speaker 2: I think he's best to use inside like the way
- 13:09Speaker 2: they used to use Brandon Graham and Nickel, because he's
- 13:12Speaker 2: a power end more than a fin Like. If you
- 13:15Speaker 2: were to put him a j Epanessa and Jill And
- 13:19Speaker 2: and Nolan Smith and Jaelex Hunt into an athletic competition,
- 13:22Speaker 2: Epinessa is gonna fail that one miserably compared to the
- 13:25Speaker 2: other two. But he's a good football player. I understand
- 13:29Speaker 2: your sentiment about Nolan Smith. I do think injury played
- 13:32Speaker 2: as a part in it. He is a very good
- 13:34Speaker 2: run defender. I mean he's put some pretty good offensive
- 13:37Speaker 2: lineman out just on on collisions at the point of attack.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Uh two years ago is you know, it looked like
- 13:44Speaker 2: he was really coming into his own when they won
- 13:46Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, and but he has been hurt and
- 13:48Speaker 2: then there are times where he does disappear in the
- 13:51Speaker 2: past rush. This is a big year for him to
- 13:53Speaker 2: just to determine what is he is he just a
- 13:56Speaker 2: designated pass rusher who's gonna and he's not even to
- 14:00Speaker 2: that because honestly, he's a good run defender. So you
- 14:02Speaker 2: want him on on the field first second down, but
- 14:05Speaker 2: you don't necessarily want to have to take him off
- 14:07Speaker 2: the field in pass russ situations because he was a
- 14:10Speaker 2: hell of a twitchy athlete coming out of Georgia. So yeah,
- 14:13Speaker 2: it is a it is a time for Nolan Smith
- 14:15Speaker 2: to show who he really is this year. I agree
- 14:18Speaker 2: as Vic Fangio once said about a Dori Jackson, it's
- 14:23Speaker 2: time for Nolan Smith to show who he is or
- 14:26Speaker 2: who he isn't.
- 14:29Speaker 3: That's very true and Ellie, young guy Smith.
- 14:35Speaker 1: But it's also a guy who's got the little injury
- 14:38Speaker 1: cloud hanging over his head is John Campbell, because Johan
- 14:41Speaker 1: Campbell now is going to be asked to do more
- 14:44Speaker 1: without Nakobe.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Dean out there.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Right. Nakobe Dean was kind of like the guy and
- 14:49Speaker 1: him were jousting for time, and now Nakobe's gone, and
- 14:54Speaker 1: it's almost like, all right, John sink or swim buddy.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Oh for sure. I mean that's his spot. He's gonna
- 15:01Speaker 2: man it.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I think he brings more athleticism. I know he brings
- 15:07Speaker 2: more athleticism, more coverage ability, you know, running one on
- 15:11Speaker 2: one with a tight end a slot receiver or running back.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I think that that will be a step up in
- 15:17Speaker 2: the defense where he has to bridge the gap between
- 15:21Speaker 2: himself and na Kobe is playing downhill, attacking ball carriers,
- 15:25Speaker 2: getting off blocks of offensive linemen, things of that nature.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And then man, if he can He's we already know
- 15:32Speaker 2: he can. He has a note for the quarterback because
- 15:34Speaker 2: he used to be an edge rusher. If he can
- 15:37Speaker 2: be as tenacious in the sim pressure game, which is
- 15:41Speaker 2: you know, when you're rushing a linebacker and dropping a
- 15:43Speaker 2: defensive lineman right, if he can be as tenacious in
- 15:46Speaker 2: that part of the game as Nakobe Dean was, then
- 15:49Speaker 2: he could be a heck of a linebacker. Because again,
- 15:51Speaker 2: I think he's gonna upgrade in coverage, in range, in athleticism,
- 15:57Speaker 2: and if he can add some playmaking element to the
- 16:00Speaker 2: defense alongside Zach Blond who's been great, then this Eagles
- 16:04Speaker 2: defense could be really, really special.
- 16:07Speaker 1: You know, one of the things that you guys had
- 16:09Speaker 1: with inside the Birth podcast, you guys could talk to
- 16:12Speaker 1: Greg Cosell a lot, and Greg Cosell watches the tape
- 16:15Speaker 1: and you guys have dialogue about it. And I was
- 16:17Speaker 1: just thinking about the fact that you mentioned about Campbell's role. Well,
- 16:21Speaker 1: we know that Fangio is you know, basically said that, Hey,
- 16:24Speaker 1: you know, Cooper de Gene is going to be at
- 16:27Speaker 1: safety in the base formation. Right, They're probably going to
- 16:30Speaker 1: pay more base this year than last year just due
- 16:33Speaker 1: to who their opponents are, right, And I'm curious, you know,
- 16:37Speaker 1: what is that going to be When you guys talked
- 16:40Speaker 1: to Greg Cosell before the season and during the season
- 16:43Speaker 1: about how that different formation could also impact the guy
- 16:46Speaker 1: like Campbell.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and we will have Greg on with us pretty
- 16:52Speaker 2: soon for our annual NFC East Preview series where he
- 16:56Speaker 2: really breaks down the tape of all four NFC East teams,
- 16:59Speaker 2: and we'll get it into that. You know, Greg likes
- 17:01Speaker 2: what Campbell brings. He felt like he did need to
- 17:04Speaker 2: improve in the downhill element of the game, but always
- 17:07Speaker 2: thought he brought a notch above in athleticism. Cooper to
- 17:12Speaker 2: Gen at safety will be probably, I mean at this point,
- 17:17Speaker 2: I mean their best option as opposed to going out
- 17:19Speaker 2: and what we thought in March and April was going
- 17:21Speaker 2: out and trying to find yourself a free agent safety
- 17:24Speaker 2: who was just really not that good. Right, And the
- 17:28Speaker 2: Gene profiled for a lot of teams at safety, for
- 17:31Speaker 2: other teams at outside corner. The Eagles actually drafted him
- 17:34Speaker 2: thinking outside corner in mind, but they probably didn't realize
- 17:37Speaker 2: at the time that you know, Quinyon Mitchell would be
- 17:40Speaker 2: so good, and that the Gene would be a great nickel,
- 17:42Speaker 2: and that they would be deficient at safety. So a
- 17:45Speaker 2: certain circumstances call for that. I'm really fascinated Josh, and
- 17:49Speaker 2: what you said about the whole idea of the Egos
- 17:52Speaker 2: playing more base defense in twenty twenty six. That is
- 17:55Speaker 2: something that we felt would happen based on the schedule
- 17:58Speaker 2: and the opponents and how much twelve personnel they're likely
- 18:00Speaker 2: to see. But the Eagles face the number the most
- 18:05Speaker 2: snaps of eleven personnel last year. Some of that was
- 18:08Speaker 2: just time and circumstance. You know the Rams. When they
- 18:12Speaker 2: played the Rams were in the early in the season,
- 18:14Speaker 2: they were an eleven personnel team at that point, or
- 18:16Speaker 2: twelve with eleven, and as the season went on they
- 18:19Speaker 2: were way more thirteen and twelve. Right, the forty nine
- 18:22Speaker 2: ers are twelve and twenty one personnel team. But you know,
- 18:26Speaker 2: they lost George Kittle in the middle of the game,
- 18:28Speaker 2: so they had to be eleven personnel a lot more heavenly,
- 18:31Speaker 2: a lot more heavily than usual. And then also if
- 18:35Speaker 2: the Eagles are as good defensively as we think, and
- 18:37Speaker 2: they stifle some opponents, and teams that play twelve personnel
- 18:40Speaker 2: fall behind. They'll have to play eleven just to pass.
- 18:43Speaker 2: So it's in theory you think they'll see more twelve
- 18:47Speaker 2: personnel teams, but when the game gets played sometimes that changes.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I'm just like I said, I'm as very curious to
- 18:54Speaker 1: see how it plays out. Because we've been talking about
- 18:56Speaker 1: the depth of the defensive line. What are the depth
- 19:00Speaker 1: whole defense? Because like you said, if the teams, if
- 19:03Speaker 1: you're if a team is down, let's say you know,
- 19:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw it at twenty to ten, you're entering
- 19:07Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, Well, they're gonna come out there with
- 19:09Speaker 1: four wide receivers. They're gonna be throwing the ball and
- 19:12Speaker 1: it's gonna be Well, then what do you do if
- 19:13Speaker 1: you spend half the game with base personnel and now
- 19:17Speaker 1: the fourth quarter comes around and now you've got four
- 19:19Speaker 1: receivers on the field and scat back in the backfield.
- 19:23Speaker 1: You know, then who's gonna be on the field versus
- 19:26Speaker 1: who's not, Like, for example, do we see way less
- 19:30Speaker 1: ag apinessa in those situations? You know, is it a
- 19:33Speaker 1: scenario where you go, Hey, Zach Ballan, you're the only
- 19:36Speaker 1: linebacker just you know, good luck, buddy. You're like, what
- 19:39Speaker 1: what do you do in those situations? I'm very curious
- 19:42Speaker 1: to find out.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, by the way, AJ has to make the team.
- 19:47Speaker 2: He's He's signed this late for a reason. I believe
- 19:51Speaker 2: the physical with the Browns. Like, let's not put Ajpiness
- 19:54Speaker 2: on the fifty three because you do the numbers there.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I mean, we already talked about the three pass. There's
- 19:59Speaker 2: three edge rushers ahead of him, right, and then you
- 20:02Speaker 2: got Arnold Ebughetti's that's really four. And even if you're
- 20:05Speaker 2: kind of considering a hybrid edge inside guy, I mean inside,
- 20:09Speaker 2: it's hard too because you got your two beasts in
- 20:13Speaker 2: Davis and Carter, and you have muro Jomo in his
- 20:15Speaker 2: last year, and Byron Young is gonna get some snaps
- 20:18Speaker 2: and of course Ty Robinson. So numbers don't support Epiness
- 20:22Speaker 2: and making the team. But I could see him happening.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Fair, very fair.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I I just I guess in my mind, I don't
- 20:30Speaker 1: think they brought him in here just to keep you know,
- 20:32Speaker 1: the seat warm on the eightiest spot on the roster,
- 20:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, I feel like he's
- 20:37Speaker 1: coming in here to actually compete for a legitimate roster spot.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know how what we always say, man,
- 20:43Speaker 2: you're available at this time of the year for a reason, right,
- 20:46Speaker 2: and you know you're Hey listen, le Garrett Blunt, Chris Long.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Those are guys who signed later on and wound up
- 20:53Speaker 2: being really good. It's but you. I would say the
- 20:55Speaker 2: percentages of guys who sign right in this month overall
- 21:00Speaker 2: are pretty low for them to make the fifty three.
- 21:03Speaker 3: So very fair.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I just would say that between Ebikeetty and Epinessa, I
- 21:08Speaker 1: feel like Epinessa might I would put all.
- 21:11Speaker 2: The money though, follow the money you didn't pay Ebikeetty
- 21:15Speaker 2: three million guaranteed or four million guaranteed to then go
- 21:19Speaker 2: cut him own that money and keep Epiness on the team.
- 21:22Speaker 3: So very fair.
