- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon, listeners. Thank you for coming on Lament
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Hope podcast. It's kind of crazy that we're already
- 0:06Speaker 1: in April and just, yeah, already so many interviews done
- 0:10Speaker 1: and just seeing, getting to hear so many different stories.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And recently we've been kind of talking to a lot
- 0:18Speaker 1: of different like survivalists and then talking to a dispatcher.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I don't know if I understand your question.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Like, If someone is being, if you're taking pictures of
- 0:34Speaker 1: something awful, some people may say, well, that's such a, like,
- 0:42Speaker 1: how can you do that as a profession? Like, take
- 0:44Speaker 1: a picture of something so bad. And some photographers would
- 0:50Speaker 1: be like, oh, I need to help and do something,
- 0:53Speaker 1: not take a picture to then send back so that
- 0:56Speaker 1: people can see what's going on. It's almost like you're
- 0:59Speaker 1: entering into their darkness with that person, but then you leave.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You take that photo with you, right? And so I
- 1:07Speaker 1: wondered if you ever had that tension as a war photographer.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I don't remember for now, but I wanted to believe
- 1:19Speaker 3: that everything depends on the situation. Because, for example, when
- 1:29Speaker 3: we have this photograph of a girl, it was like
- 1:37Speaker 3: that the photographer stands, like you had this distance between,
- 1:48Speaker 3: here you have photographers, here you have distance, and from
- 1:52Speaker 3: this distance you saw that somebody is running.
- 1:58Speaker 2: To you. So, and then you see, you saw the
- 2:04Speaker 2: smoke on the sky. So, something, you know that something
- 2:09Speaker 2: was happened. You didn't know what was happening, but you
- 2:14Speaker 2: saw that the children, later you see the small pasture,
- 2:20Speaker 2: this is the children, and the children is flying towards
- 2:26Speaker 2: to you. So then you took the picture. But Nick Wood,
- 2:32Speaker 2: the other story is that we don't know for sure
- 2:39Speaker 2: that this concrete photograph was taken by Nick Wood or
- 2:46Speaker 2: by another photographer. There is a film, documentary film, was made.
- 2:55Speaker 4: By HMC7, that they found another photographer who probably took
- 3:06Speaker 4: this picture, this concrete picture.
- 3:09Speaker 2: But this is another story. But what we know for sure,
- 3:13Speaker 2: for sure we know that when this girl died, was
- 3:19Speaker 2: really close to this group of photographers, Nick Wood was
- 3:23Speaker 2: taking this girl to the car and he brought her
- 3:28Speaker 2: to the hospital.
- 3:29Speaker 5: And later, he kept this contact with this girl and
- 3:36Speaker 5: smiled with this woman.
- 3:42Speaker 6: And so what I believe, I believe, I wanted to
- 3:45Speaker 6: believe that.
- 3:49Speaker 3: If.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I will be in that situation that.
- 3:56Speaker 6: You have this choice that instead of taking a picture,
- 4:02Speaker 6: you should do something. I would like to believe that
- 4:09Speaker 6: I choose actually to help these people.
- 4:14Speaker 7: And for example, I work in one organization, like a volunteer.
- 4:26Speaker 6: This is, it's called Obcalenia Foundation.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And this organization is work on the Polish-Hungarian border.
