- 0:00…Hi everyone And
- 0:03welcome back to the wealthy woman lawyer podcast I'm so glad you're here.
- 0:07I'm your host Divina Fredrick And today since it is the last podcast for 2022 and we are all
- 0:13facing down the barrel of 2023, I thought I'd discussed everyone's favorite topic for the new year.
- 0:19Planning. But first I just want to say happy new year to you and yours.
- 0:23I hope you're happy You had a wonderful 20, 22 and you met all your business growth goals, and
- 0:29you're now enjoying a life of prosperity and ease.
- 0:33If 2022 did not turn out to be your best year That's okay.
- 0:38We can't win them all. But what we can do is celebrate our past year successes.
- 0:43Because we all have them and we can take a moment to evaluate.
- 0:47What we would like to change in the coming year. For me I'm celebrating the fact that I got to
- 0:53work with some amazing women law firm owner clients This year who've
- 0:56gotten some remarkable results from our work together.
- 1:00Some have crossed the seven figure revenue mark others having
- 1:04greaser revenue over a million, several years in a row now.
- 1:08And some are climbing the six-figure ladder at a rapid pace.
- 1:12All of them are learning to trust themselves as leaders and managers
- 1:17to develop new skills and to continue making their dreams reality.
- 1:21Despite hiring and retention issues.
- 1:24Uh or personal challenges like running for political office weathering hurricanes.
- 1:30Or combating some very serious illnesses.
- 1:33Many of them also are doing a lot of traveling Uh, Hawaii can Coon Germany Iceland
- 1:39Paris, Rome and Machu Picchu or just a few of the vacation destinations.
- 1:45Of my clients this year. I'm also celebrating the two year anniversary of the wealthy woman lawyerly.
- 1:51Can you believe it has been two years already?
- 1:54Since I Bert. Birth this brain child uh
- 1:58idea that I had, I created the league in October.
- 2:02because I knew I could never achieve my mission for helping more than a thousand women lawyers.
- 2:08Achieve time and money freedom and live their best lives.
- 2:11If I tried to get there one lawyer at a time.
- 2:14I knew I needed to dream bigger. And the league is a manifestation of that dream.
- 2:19I'm super excited about all the new ideas we're taking Action on.
- 2:24Now to help even more women lawyers than ever in 2023.
- 2:29Which leads me back to my topic for today Planning.
- 2:33It was Winston Churchill Churchill who famously said plans
- 2:36are of little importance but planning is essential.
- 2:40And I cannot agree more I personally love the planning process.
- 2:44I do planning at the beginning of the year.
- 2:47Uh I do it throughout the year and I do a daily.
- 2:51So whether I'm engaging in it for my own business or with my clients, I love a good plan.
- 2:56And I love the planning process In fact this last week is a year I've worked with.
- 3:01about 15 women law firm owners to map out their
- 3:052023 So it's been a very busy week for me this last week of the year.
- 3:09Planning is about taking all that excitement that we feel about the new year.
- 3:14A new day new possibilities that we haven't even considered.
- 3:18And putting it down on paper or electronic paper, if you will.
- 3:23Taking our first baby steps toward turning thoughts into things.
- 3:28I found that many law firm owners like me love love love to plan.
- 3:33However the biggest challenge I've discovered.
- 3:36In my almost 10 years of coaching women business owners.
- 3:40And women law firm owners in particular. Is the failure to make those plans a priority by
- 3:46making room for them on your calendar.
- 3:49Failed plans rarely are the result of a bad idea, but
- 3:53rather the result of a failure to timely execute.
- 3:58And execute well. Think back over the ideas
- 4:01that you've had this last year that you did not execute.
- 4:05And ask yourself why. For instance, did you want to lose 20 pounds but you didn't stick with your eating plan.
- 4:12Or perhaps you quit going to meet your personal trainer after a couple of months because you got too busy.
- 4:18Maybe you wanted to learn a new language or take more time off for yourself or read more but you did.
- 4:23Perhaps you had a big a big audacious business or financial goals but those didn't manifest
- 4:29either…There are three reasons High-achieving women fail
- 4:33to achieve certain goals and none of them are lack of planning.
- 4:38Here are three reasons One is they don't do a good job of executing on their plans because they
- 4:44forget they need to prioritize their time.
- 4:47And put daily action toward their goals. Onto their calendars.
- 4:52So they have to transfer it and make room on their calendar for it
- 4:55And then stick with those commitments they've made to themselves.
- 4:59The only way you're going to stick with commitments If you is if you put them on the calendar.
- 5:04And do it. Number two is they don't prioritize their own needs first instead of trying to do
- 5:11and be everything to everyone by themselves.
- 5:14Instead they try No sorry Instead they try to do and be everything to everyone but themselves.
- 5:20Number three is they don't ask for. Invest
- 5:23in or allow themselves to receive help.
- 5:27That last one receiving is huge. You may feel like you're asking but if you're not.
- 5:33Opening yourself up opening your mind up and allowing other people to help without you jumping into fix.
- 5:39Then you are resisting help. What does it look like for you to put yourself first?
- 5:45Well, not being the last one in your family to get dressed before you go out.
- 5:49Not eating last, not following through on your commitment to yourself to go to the gym a few
- 5:54times a week for a good workout Uh, eating scraps off your kids' plates instead of eating food That's good for you.
- 6:00In your business it can look and sound like. I'll just close this file myself instead of giving
- 6:06it to the legal assistant to do it because it will be quicker.
- 6:09I can't take a long vacation only long weekends for me, because everything will fall apart If
- 6:15I'm gone…I have great ideas for my business, but
- 6:19no time to implement them because I have way too much client work to do.
- 6:24I know I need to hire but I worried about doing it wrong.
- 6:28So I just keep putting it off. I know I need to meet with my coach
- 6:32or than ever because I need accountability support and guidance.
- 6:36But since it's from me and not a client. I really can't prioritize the meeting…I know I
- 6:43probably should raise my fees because I'm not making enough money to pay myself what
- 6:46I need, but my clients might get upset.
- 6:50The long and short of it is if you want long-term success in your business
- 6:54and your life, you've got to start being a little more selfish.
- 6:57You've got to make yourself. A priority because when you don't.
- 7:03You are actually not only letting yourself down but you're not bringing your best self forward
- 7:09for others either…If it keeps getting the excuse of.
- 7:14I don't have time. Or whatever it is that you're telling yourself to stop you from putting
- 7:19yourself your own damn self on your calendar.
- 7:22All the planning in the world is not going to save you…If you want.
- 7:27A new you in the new year, or even just a better version of yourself in 2023.
- 7:34Uh Divina 2.0. The do this.
- 7:38Number one, make a list of what you truly want, not what you think you should want.
- 7:44Make a plan to go after that.
- 7:47In 2023. Then schedule. One baby step at a time on
- 7:52your calendar and stick to your commitment to get it demo.
- 7:56And then number four is just rinse and repeat, but the next baby step on your calendar and get.
- 8:01it done And then the next baby step toward your goal and get it Uh…if what you want is more
- 8:07prosperity or resources more time off to travel or do something fun.
- 8:13And you want a wealth generating law firm to create all of that for you.
- 8:17Then I invite you to either schedule a call with me about private one-on-one coaching.
- 8:22If you're at a half million dollars or more and you want to scale over that elusive seven figure mark.
