- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Telugu with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, last time we learned how to buy rice at the market. That was so useful. Lucas: Right, we learned how to say 'I need rice' and 'give me one kilo of rice'. But there are different kinds of rice in Telugu markets. Luna: Oh, like basmati rice? I love that for biryani. Lucas: Exactly. So today we'll learn how to ask for basmati rice and sona masoori rice, which is a very common everyday rice in Andhra and Telangana. Luna: Perfect. I'm ready to learn. Lucas: Let's start with basmati rice. In Telugu, basmati rice is 'బాస్మతి బియ్యం'. Listen again: బాస్మతి బియ్యం. Luna: బాస్మతి బియ్యం. That's fun to say. Lucas: Good. Now, if you want to say 'I need basmati rice', you say 'నాకు బాస్మతి బియ్యం కావాలి'. Lucas: Perfect. Now for sona masoori rice, it's 'సోనా మసూరి బియ్యం'. That's a bit of a mouthful. Lucas: You'll get it. So, 'నాకు సోనా మసూరి బియ్యం కావాలి' means 'I need sona masoori rice'. Lucas: Great. Now, what if you only want half a kilo? 'Half kilo' is 'సగం కేజీ'. So 'సగం కేజీ ఇవ్వండి' means 'give me half a kilo'. That's useful. I don't always need a whole kilo. Lucas: Right. And the shopkeeper might ask 'మరి ఏమైనా కావాలా?' which means 'Do you need anything else?' I think I can answer that with 'అంతే' from before. Lucas: Exactly. 'అంతే' means 'that's all'. Let's put it all together in a mini market scene. Luna: Okay, I'll be the customer. Lucas: And I'll be the shopkeeper. Go ahead. Lucas: Perfect dialogue! You just bought basmati rice in Telugu. Luna: Oh that's so good. I feel like I could actually do that now. Lucas: And if you want sona masoori instead, just replace the first line with 'నాకు సోనా మసూరి బియ్యం కావాలి'. I like how it sounds. Lucas: Let's practice the phrases one more time. Repeat after me: బాస్మతి బియ్యం. Lucas: You know, I love that we can do these practical episodes without any ads interrupting.
