- 0:00SPEAKER_00: It's Thursday, Las Vegas.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Here's what's making news from Las Vegas Sun.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: We start on Capitol Hill, where Nevada's congressional delegation just scored a win.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: The House Ways and Means Committee voted 38 to 5 Wednesday to advance a bill restoring the full federal tax deduction for gambling losses.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: It's the first real movement on what critics call a phantom income tax since President Trump signed the one big, beautiful bill last July, cutting the deduction to 90%.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: That change meant a gambler who won and lost$100,000 in the same year would still owe taxes on$10,000 they never actually kept.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Congresswoman Dina Titus, who's been pushing a fix for 14 months, called Wednesday a milestone, but she wants a full house vote and soon.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Locally, Clark County Commissioners approved a new animal resource center for the Southwest Valley.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: The 37,000 square foot shelter will sit on nine acres near Post Road and Jones Boulevard in Spring Valley with room up to 192 animals.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Completion is targeted for winter 2028.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: In sports, the Golden Knights are back.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: They kicked off their training cap Wednesday at City National Arena, opening year 10 off a Stanley Cup final run.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: But big questions loom.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Could the offense score enough?
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Does the goaltending bounce back?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And can newly extended defenseman Ramus Anderson live up to his seven-year$59.5 million deal?
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Boy, I could barely read that.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: What a big number.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Uh lastly, on the strip, Aria unveiled its Autumn Antler, an edible enchantment for us on display through November 8th.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: The centerpiece is a chocolate tree built from 2,250 pounds of dark chocolate decorated with brown sugar flowers, vines, and autumn leaves.
